Hey, yanno how Climate Change is a real thing that is tangibly, at this moment, affecting our world?
Well it turns out, the wealthy and their investment firms have been seeing the mounting evidence that oil companies have had for decades and are slowly starting to think more long-term about their portfolios in the face of rising sea levels, more extreme weather, and the myriad of ways climate crises are affecting...well. Everything. Maybe this means they invest more into sustainability, green energy, building more resilient infrastructure, or carbon offsets. Some of it, of course, is simple corporate greenwashing, but there are those that are taking this trend and packaging it into something called ESG (Environmental, Social, and corporate Governance).
Now some people would say this is predictable, even sensible. Just the good ol’ Free Market(tm) rationally responding to market forces and a changing world.
But those people would be fools! Insidious fools! For conservative sorcerers have come out with a new cursed phrase to explain this new market trend: Woke Investing.
What makes this investing “woke?” Well, much like how conservatives normally flounder when trying to define a word they stole from black people, “Woke Investing” essentially just means any kind of capital investment that they, the fossil fuel billionaire class and their sycophants, don’t personally profit from.
One of these aforementioned sycophants is Andy Puzder, conservative commentator, fellow at The Heritage Foundation, and former fast-food CEO. He calls this kind of so-called woke investing “socialism in sheep’s clothing,” further explaining in leaked audio of a closed-door meeting:
“My father's generation's challenge was the Nazis, who, by the way, were, of course, very proud socialists[citation fucking needed]. The challenge of my generation was the communists, who were, of course, very committed socialists. The challenge of your generation is ESG investing, and it's more insidious than communism or the Nazis.”(source)
You heard it here first, folks. Not investing as much in fossil fuels is more insidious than the Third Fucking Reich.
As usual, the Heritage Foundation is putting their petro-chemical donor’s money where their mouth is. Bills are being proposed to blacklist banks that don’t invest in key state industries, such as West Virginia coal or Texas oil. Fourteen states have already passed bills to restrict ESG-type investing, with Florida Governor Ron “Bullies Kids for Wearing Masks” Desantis leading the charge.
In other words, Climate Denial has reached such a point that so-called Free Market Conservatives who claim to hate big government are trying to make it illegal for banks, investment firms, and financial institutions to make any financial decisions that acknowledges Climate Change is real.

how to study for social studies subjects
I’d like to think that one of my strongest focuses is social studies. I love learning about history, economics, government, e.t.c. and I do well on tests! I thought that most people had it easy when it came to these subjects, but throughout working with peers and friends, I realized that wasn’t true, so here are some tips to get through those subjects:
Memorizing will be your friend: This is one of my biggest tips that I still use for my social studies subjects. Memorize, memorize, memorize! Of course, you should first understand a concept or term before memorizing it, but it helps so much to know words. I use quizlet and knowt.io to help me memorize, but you can use a variety of ways to remember. This is especially helpful for tests, as you can help fill in the blank when reading through questions and other readings.
Trick your brain: One of the reasons I was so good at social studies subjects was because I was interested in politics and government. I’m really interested in the controversial aspect of politics, which helped me understand forms and branches of government, how the economy works, e.t.c. I’ve recently heard this tip on the internet, where people trick their brain into thinking that the subject they are learning is like lore for a tv show or novel, and it worked. Your brain will probably be more likely to learn if you make it enjoyable.
Use a variety of resources: A lot of social studies subjects will have more interesting and engaging resources to use, rather than like physics with a boring textbook and some reference videos. Topics like politics will have a wide variety of books, articles, news reports, movies, and even TV shows covering them. After understanding the concepts and things you may need to know, watching a political TV show can be a form of studying! You can learn to apply, discuss, and critique different forms and resources to apply to the thing you are studying.
Find ways to connect to the modern world: Social studies subjects are one of the easiest to connect to the media and the news; you will often find articles and reporters speaking about the economy, what's going on in the supreme court, and who is voting or pushing for what agenda. If you ever need to find examples to help you learn and study, just watch the news! It’s a great resource, and can help you apply what you are learning to the real world. Oftentimes, test-makers will give a question set in a scenario, where a country is going into a recession and you may have to explain ways to solve or help it e.t.c. so the news is a great resource to see it real time.

actually one of the things about perpetually online ppl that rly annoys me is how they blindly adopt communism as an inverse of capitalism and call themselves a "communist" (i mostly see this w gen z age ppl that live in the us) as a way to say that they hate america when they really have no idea how badly communism decimated eastern european countries and their possibilities to grow into a stable economic state

lmao this clownish, hypocritical, farcical, vindicative mess of a country. this loony nation that will literally throw a whole tantrum, from government to media stations to randoes on the street, because it deeply believes that it is entitled to the spoils and fruits and suffering of the people it oppressed for centuries, as *thanks* for "civilizing" them. any backlash to that notion creates unprecedented fury and petty vindictiveness towards the nationals of said country. on one hand the new governments of niger and mali are "human rights abusing juntas", on the other any national from this country must be severely punished for their governments' refusal to bow down and lick the sole of france's boot like they're supposed to.

Lysenkoism, eugenics, and the politicization of "science"
Lysenkoism, in short, was a disproven scientific theory pushed by Soviet biologist Trofim Lysenko which rejected the theory genetics in favor of a "class-based" model and inherited characteristics. The material effect of the USSR's endorsement of this theory played a small roll in the famines of 1933 and during the Great Leap Forward**. It's one of the biggest missteps in the soviet socialist experiment. The question is, then, why was this model adopted at all (even with Stalin's own doubts of the theory), especially considering later Soviet scientific successes and pioneering.
One of the gravest byproducts of codifying the theory of natural selection is the invention of, first, phrenology, then eugenics. This pseudoscience was the exact "scientific" backing needed to support a growing white supremacist liberal ideology. Eugenics stipulated that the "master race" (white people*) had superior genes compared to everyone else and that poverty, intelligence, mental illnesses were solely determined by your genetics and therefore, we must improve those genetics through forced sterilization, marriage licenses, or in the case of the nazis, genocide. The class nature of eugenics is clear. It is the racial "science" of the bourgeoisie and targeted the poor, POC, and disabled.
Lysenkoism, politically speaking, was diametrically opposed to the concept of eugenics. The rejection of mendelian genetics negated the idea that there is a master race or a poor gene (both things that western eugenics propagated and continue to). However, we know that both "scientific" models are incorrect. The USSR's implementation of Lysenkoism contributed to a larger snowball that culminated in the disastrous consequences of 1932 and, arguably, 1950**. But its important to see that both the USSR and China abandoned the theory after it proved incorrect. On the other hand, eugenics continues to play a role today, just cloaked under the thin veil of "IQ"; dig into many social austerity policies and ultimately, the root is "you poors must have the poor gene and cannot save" or some shit. Lysenkoism, on the other hand, is a stark reminder to stay vigilant for dogmatism.
Another aspect of this story is the "politicization of science". Now, I don't mean "politicization" as many liberals say (e.g., women in my vidya games??? POLITICAL!!!; trans people exist??? POLITICAL!!!; nor its more serious type of people complaining of scientists going into politics to enact societal change, i.e., with climate change (both types of complaints are highly idealistic and I will explain)), but rather the dogma of assigning political-economy to scientific models. Of course, many many MANY models CANNOT exist in a vacuum. Climate change science is one of these; the interconnections and intersectional aspects of the thousands of varying metrics contribute to this scientific model.
On a more metaphysical level, science itself is informed by the political-economy it takes place in. Who gets funding to research what is also highly political-economic. However, there are also more immutable aspects of science. Genetics have no political flavor. The conservation of energy cares not for class distinctions. Like statistics, science, as a collection of models of the observable universe, is a tool that can be used to inform material change. And like statistics, where the conclusions you draw from data are highly political-economic, the models constructed from poorly done science are also highly political-economic.

The "Valicer In The Dark Meets Baldur's Gate III" Not-Incorrect Quotes/Shitpost Collection
(Don't worry too much about spoilers -- most of this is early-game stuff, with just a couple of things relating to stuff in Act II)
--
Alice: [having just met Lae'zel on the Nautiloid and been informed of the situation with the parasites] And who are you, exactly?
Lae'zel: Who am I? Your only chance of survival.
[later, after the imps have been fought, and everyone's met back up and freed Shadowheart:]
Victor: [introducing himself as they get back on the move] I'm Victor.
Alice: I'm Alice. [pointing to Lae'zel] And this is Only.
Lae'zel: ?
Alice: Well, you've given me nothing else to call you.
--
Shadowheart: [after being informed the trio live in a world without a sun and that's why they're being so weird about the sky being blue] I -- are you Shar's Chosen? Is this some sort of test? Am I not supposed to believe you when you say you like sunlight? I can totally not believe you if that's the case!
Alice: ...I feel like we've missed something.
Smiler: [lying down and sunbathing] Yeah, it's in the sky above us.
--
Withers: What is the worth of a single mortal's life?
Victor: I -- I would say priceless. You can't put a value on life itself.
Alice: I say it's worth whatever you're willing to pay to defend it. Only the owner of said life can set the value.
Smiler: I'm pretty sure the standard rate of assassins in Duskwall is four Coin minimum -- not sure how that translates to your money.
Victor & Alice: [look at Smiler]
Smiler: What? It's a legitimate answer!
--
Withers: I shall be here, in thy camp, for whenever thou has need of my services.
Alice: Oh? What kind of services do you offer?
Withers: A mending of the threads between life and death. Should thou or any of thy compatriots perish, I will cleave soul to body once more.
Victor: Cleave soul to -- wait a minute, isn't that how you get vampires?
Astarion: [rearranging his tent, pauses and gives them a really weird look]
--
Alice: [during one of the meetings with Raphael] You do seem like a very powerful devil.
Raphael: [preening] I consider myself no slouch, yes.
Smiler: [cheerfully] I bet your blood could power an entire city block for a month!
Raphael: [blink blink] ...thank...you?
--
Strange Ox: Ah, you're addressing me. A humble ox. How...quaint.
Smiler: [tilting their head] What are you?
Strange Ox: As I said, a humble ox. I don't know why you're --
Smiler: No, I mean, what's an ox?
Strange Ox: ...
--
Smiler: [standing behind a table lined with eight samples of the same Potion Of Glorious Vaulting, with Victor, Alice, and the companions all gathered around the front of it] Thank you all for coming to this blind taste test, where we will be disproving the idiotic notion that you only need one specific ingredient per potion to create something that does what you want it to. In front of you are eight individual Potions of Glorious Vaulting, each made with a different type of Ashes -- I would like you each to drink one, test the effects, then rate it based on how strong the effects were, how long they lasted, and how tasty it was.
Wyll: You care about the taste?
Smiler: Of course! If we're going to be making potions, the least we could do is make them pleasant to consume! We're working toward maximum happiness here! Now everybody pick one and let's get jumping!
--
Gale: [realizing the trio isn't with them as they move through the mind flayer colony under Moonrise] Hold -- where's Victor, Alice, and Smiler?
Karlach: I think I saw them looking at a cage in the last room.
Lae'zel: Chk -- they should know by now that we cannot pause and look at every little thing that --
Smiler: [rejoining the group carrying a certain intellect devourer, beaming, as Victor and Alice come up behind them] Hey everyone!
Lae'zel: [stares at the brain] ...
Astarion: Why are you carrying an intellect --
Lae'zel: THAT. THING. SURVIVED?!
Us: Hello Angry Friend!
Lae'zel: I'M NOT YOUR FRIEND
--
Aylin: [after everyone's agreed to meet up with her and Isobel again later at the camp] Now -- you will leave us. We must take succour in one another's bodies and words.
Isobel: Aylin. We'll see you later.
Victor: [hiding a smile] Of course.
Alice: [biting back a chuckle] Later.
Smiler: [big beaming grin and a double thumbs up] Enjoy the hot lesbian sex!
Victor: Smiler!
Aylin: I intend to.
Isobel: AYLIN.
