herbs do not only make for flavorful and medicinal teas. they are also great companions in aiding more abstract or emotional imbalances (although I have also listed some of their physically obvious effects, so you can compare the two). you can try your hand at some as you undergo inner child work for yourself.
fyi, the indications are written based on my personal experiences and observations of the plants + research that I have complied and made sense of. person to person may have a different sense of the same plant.
many of the herbs I listed are safe for most people, but it is always prudent to research any herb before you use it, to prevent damage or distress to the body. research especially for "contraindications" and "harmful herb-drug interactions." generally, infused oils and flower essences will be able to be used without altering the effects of internally-ingested pharmaceuticals.

Spectrum of Emotional Alchemy
Level 1: Your negative emotions no longer overwhelm you. You are the larger space within which emotions play.
Level 2: You no longer cling to negative emotions. Your mind doesn’t tune into the energetic frequency of your emotions, trying to fight or justify or win.
Level 3: You no longer cling to positive emotions. Your ability to rejoice for others increases and your capacity for jealousy decreases.
Level 4: Awareness as the background space of emotion shifts toward the foreground. Emotions lose their state-like quality.
Level 5: Glass-like embodiment of/as awareness shining with uncaused loving-kindness.

For the Sake of Mindfulness

I feel like I am repairing my brain. Ironing out deep grooves that have formed habits and emotional responses.  Through meditation I have recognized what may have been so obvious to so many people in my life: I am distracted & anxious. Constantly. 
I have thought about the causes of this: base wiring, growing up in a world with constantly changing technology, taking and attempting to strive in jobs that state in their wanted ads: "Seeking candidate with strong multi-tasking abilities”. 
I have trained myself to react, to respond emotionally, and turn on a dime at great detriment to my self. Multi-tasking is a lie. No great artist or influencer reached achievements through splitting their attention.
I am seeking to fulfill my needs. To find peace, freedom, stability, communication, community, empathy, presence, honesty, and compassion (for myself & others).
I am seeking to deeply feel and recognize my feelings.  To separate evaluation from observation. To identify my bias. To work compassionately to erase my biases.

....".... Have you ever felt pressured into pretending you weren't feeling like your world was collapsing? Did you ever feel shamed because you expressed your not so party ready emotions? Did you wrinkle your forehead, tighten your stomach and compress that dragon back down to make someone else feel more comfortable?
It is not your job to be happy all the time. It is your job to process your emotions responsibly so that you can utilize the lessons they are here to teach.
Sometimes that means being angry, or sad, or heartbroken for a day, a week, a month or however long it takes to transmute that lead into gold. That's not only okay, that's brave, brilliant and revolutionary.
