#fainting is bad

NOTE: After a few posts focusing on constructive feedback and suggestions, we're back to criticism. It's still constructive criticism btw: I'm pointing out flaws in the system, explaining why it's a problem and I suggest a "solution". If you don't like it, don't read it.

Fainting is bad.

Why is the fainting system even a thing in the first place? The answer is probably to encourage daily activity, but what about users who can't log in frequently enough to avoid fainting? People who only have a few hours a week to spend on WoX.

I don't think the fainting system is very productive at this point. For some users it might do the trick and increase activity, but for others it's just discouraging. It's very discouraging for newer users to log in and find that they've been timed out and have to wait an hour before they can get back into the fun new website they just discovered. There's a pretty significant risk that they'll just huff, log out, play another game and never bother with WoX again.

Or they'll see a paywall and think "ew capitalism" and maybe go into fanfiction instead. You don't get any timeouts or paywalls on Ao3, or whatever sites the kids publish their smut on these days.

Why on earth would you put a discouraging timeout on a website that is dependent on users actively participating in the content that they get timed out from?!

What sort of message do you think you're sending to new users?

"Oh, welcome back! You haven't been active enough recently and the punishment for that is a one hour timeout, now think about what you've done." "We only want active members here, people who can log in daily and always remember to 'feed' themselves. You've failed the test, but I'll forgive you if you're still here in an hour." "You must prove your worthiness and wait one hour before you may proceed with your topic. If you cannot wait you are not worthy."

You're actively excluding everyone who, for whatever reason, cannot log in and keep their meters filled on a daily basis. And the many users who simply won't remember to do it (ADHD folks, for example).

You're actively preventing users from participating in anything except the one forum for fainted users and the chat.

You're actively excluding users who only have a limited amount of time to spend on the site - imagine finally having an hour to read and respond to a topic only to find that the entire hour will be spent waiting to unfaint (unless you have the IG money, or IRL money, to pay for unfainting) and by the time you can access the topic your one hour of spare time is up.

The fainting system also hinders your site staff from doing their jobs, especially student jobs. You can't expect people to schedule their lives around WoX and daily logins and meters, a lot of users simply can't do that. If someone with a student job has a busy week and only has an hour to log in and do their tasks, they won't be able to do their job if they've fainted. Despite technically having the time, they won't have time and will either have to take absence or risk being told off for not doing their tasks on time.

This is not how you keep your new users. If anything, this is how you lose them.

If the fainting system has to stay, it has to be reduced to 10 minutes or less. I have heard that it originally was 4 hours (what the fudge were they thinking?) and the current 1 hour doesn't seem so bad in comparison, but it's still bad compared to sites that don't have any timeouts at all. You know, like other fandom RP sites?

NOTE TO DAN: Oh, and don't even think about implementing an IRL payment to opt out of the fainting system. It will look like a moneygrab and pay-to-play scheme and you can't afford another fiasco like that. I already made several suggestions for additional site income in my last post, try some of those instead.

Previously you have made your opinion on fainting clear, essentially that someone leaving for a few days just to have a 1 hour timeout slammed in their face. I very much so agree with this, however games/sites/etc like this DO have to have downsides- if it was all unicorns and rainbows and you could get ahead with little to no effort, well, how many people would you lose from THAT? Not everyone likes it easy. I somewhat wish it was possible to implement a feature where the faint still existed, but your bars only dropped *during the time spent on-site*. Meaning that inactivity wouldn't make you faint, but being active and neglecting the choice to eat/drink would result in a 10-20min (max) fainting time.

Additionally, you've discussed extra paid features to add to the sites- I think it would be interesting if VIP users (this would be on the packages for ALL staff) that when your food bar hits a certain mark you get a screen popup/notification reminding you to eat/drink.

Food/drink meters only dropping during the time you're actually online is a really good compromise to the fainting issue! I'd be okay with that.

A small popup notification to fill up your meters would probably be a greatly appreciated feature that would really add value to VIP. Take notes, site leaders, and feel free to put this suggestion to the table at the next feedback meeting (which isn't a thing... but it should be a thing)

(Basic context is that AU of Duel Desinties where the phantom impersonates Phoenix to get him found guilty of Clay's murder, I talk more under the cut abt it jkhlj)

-Basically meant to be a parallel to turnabout trump, cause if you can have ONE boss get found guilty of murder, why not a second one?

-OK basically: everything in DD happens normally until like- a day before clays murder, Phoenix gets yoinked by the phantom somehow (he is still alive, just being held captive), Phantom is still Fulbright, but they've decided to be silly goofy (target Phoenix and get him found guilty of murder, escape police custody and then murder phoenix and make it seem like Phoenix accidentally died while on the run, thats why they didn't kill phoenix right away unlike the real Fulbright) there is an imposter amo-

-I dont have the logistics as to how this affects solving Metis's murder, and how it effects what evidence is used n whatnot and turnabout for tomorrow as a whole, so im just going nuts HGJKHLJ

-Originally I was actually imagining this taking place during turnabout for tomorrow and I wanted that case to be apollo v klavier instead of phoenix and edgeworth and thats why klav is in here instead of Simon (I decided that Simon got badly injured and couldn't stand in court for the retrial, so klavier was asked to step in)

-The courtroom bombing still happens the same way it does normally, but Apollo decides to take up the case again instead of taking a leave, instead of like, you know, healing from the traumatic event that just happened, turnabout countdown still happens as well

-Apollo and Athena do not find out about the phantom's existence until well after this trial, so they have no idea that Phoenix could've possibly been replaced, though simon, after hearing about the trial, might be suspicious about whether or not that was the real Phoenix

-The Phantom had been not only keeping an eye on Simon for a while, but was also stalking Phoenix and Edgeworth after they both started looking into UR-1, so they were able to impersonate phoenix so well that not even his own daughter thought that anything was up (though while Trucy did find him a *little* bit off, but she figured that it might've been the bombing that caused him to act ever so slightly weird, so she didn't pay much mind to it until she heard about his confession in court and realized it might've been because he possibly, ya know, killed someone)

-it's pretty much just switching Athena being framed for murder with Phoenix, and instead of the trial ending on a cliffhanger, it continues on (probably with Klavier insisting on it) ending with soloman being found innocent and Phoenix being declared guilty

-There's a couple days inbetween the end of the cosmic turnabout and the start of turnabout for tomorrow, so Athena, Apollo and Trucy all get a little bit to process the fact that "oh god my boss/my dad killed someone" (simons execution date is pushed back a bit in this au) and they probably get to talk with Klavier and eventually a lil bit with Simon after he gets out

-Im not sure how it all winds down in turnabout for tomorrow (Phoenix escaping and being at large is basically the perfect cover for the phantom to resume being fulbright for that trial) but they do eventually realize that the phoenix who confessed wasn't the real one and now there's a search on going to find out where the real one is being held captive, hes fineeee just ready to take a week long nap and a good vacation (along with every other waa member)

-I dont have anything else to add on rn but if you want to add something or just throw in a scenario feel free to!! this idea has been bouncing around my head for like a month now and Im very happy to finally show yall it

Dc x Dp Blurb #4

I had this idea/image pop into my head so I'm making a thing for it.

Danny is de-aged to like 6-7, he was staying with Jason and knew about the bats and everything but they'd never fully met. Like he'd met Dick from him visiting or smth and maybe Cass, but Jason hadn't introduced most of them.

Something happens because Danny is there, GIW, Rogue, just someone wanting tiny ghost king Danny, but Jason is hurt REAL bad by it. Like, he gets knocked into a wall, only not collapse on the floor because it's holding him up and Danny runs over, hugging Jason and crying(he ran out of wherever he was hiding). The thing gets handled and all of them just see this child hugging a probably not breathing Jason but no one can get close because of the kid's powers.

Dick manages to get over to the two since Danny knows him and knows the two are close brothers. Still, before Dick can figure out what's happening, Jason's eyes flutter open at one of the ghostly noises Danny makes while crying, his own eyes green as he calls back.

This is the first time Jason gets to deal with his not so dead no so living powers, thanks to Danny's presence having made the 'pit' into his core.

So we have Jason who nearly died again (not really but he would have if Danny hadn't accidentally helped him form his core), who's also a halfa, 90% of the family who didn't know Jason had a whole child, and many struggles with new abilities.

Main thing I kinda like saw was the whole Danny hugging Jason while crying, Dick being the only one super close while the others were watching, and Jason's eyes like starting to open and green. So, have fun with this one!
