there is literally nothing matt likes more than spending the night in with his girlfriend, as corny as it might sound. it’s been well over a month of dating now, and he still can’t get enough of you.

the warmth of your body is comforting as you lay beside him on the sofa, dressed down in sweatpants and an oversized t-shirt. he has one steady arm wrapped around your shoulder so he can hold you against his chest.

he breathes you in as his fingers skim absentmindedly up and down your exposed bicep, a familiar mixture of laundry detergent and citrus shampoo.

“that feels nice.” you mumble into his shirt, eyes still glued to the tv.

you’re forcing him to watch friends with benefits, since he picked the last movie and you were in dire need of a romcom fix. it’s one of your favorites, mainly because you loved mila kunis so much in that 70s show.

it’s only been on for roughly thirty minutes, but matt’s been enjoying it way more than he expected considering this genre is not his norm. he’s even let out a couple laughs at the scripted jokes.

the main characters are in bed together again, rolling around as they banter back and forth about sleeping with each other. it sparks a fire of curiosity inside of him as he continues to stare at the screen.

“is this really what it’s like?” he asks without thinking, and he immediately regrets his words as you tilt your head to look up at him curiously.

“what, the sex? don’t act like you don’t know.” you say, playfully smacking him with the back of your hand.

matt isn't sure why he brought it up, but he figures now is as good a time as any to have this dreadful conversation.

“how could i know if i’ve never done it?”

he feels you tense up slightly under his arm, which scares him. the last thing he wants you to think is that he’s some sort of loser. he just hadn’t found anyone that he really wanted to be intimate with before he met you.

it’s not like you guys don’t fool around sometimes. he’s perfectly capable of using both his hands and his mouth; this is a fact you’ve been made well aware of.

you two just haven’t gone all the way yet, especially considering you hardly ever get real alone time together.

“you don’t have to lie about the girls you’ve been with just because we’re dating now.” you finally respond, quieter than before.

“oh my god, i’m telling the truth, so please don’t make me say it again.” he can’t look at you anymore, because he’s too embarrassed.

this makes you fully sit up in shock, no longer focused on the premise of the film. he can feel you staring at the side of his beet red face, clearly confused by this revelation.

“wait, are you seriously telling me that you’re a virgin?” you question.

matt glances back at you and crosses his arms defensively, because it suddenly feels like he’s under attack. “you’re making me seem like a freak or something.”

he watches your eyes soften as you put a tentative hand on his shoulder, trying to let him know that you weren’t making fun of him.

“shit, i’m sorry, i swear i didn’t mean it like that. it’s just…really surprising, that’s all.”

“surprising how?”

you pull your lips between your teeth, exhaling through your nose as you try and find the right words.

“well we’ve done stuff before, and you were just naturally good at it, so i assumed you’d learned from hooking up with other people. and i know girls must have liked you with a face like that.”

this boosts his ego, and he’s already in a much better mood knowing he’s at least made you feel good in the past. that doesn’t mean he’s not still terrified, but he’s a little more confident than he was before.

“nope, not really. you’re the only one i’ve ever done that kind of thing with, aside from a little making out.” matt admits with a shrug.

your lips part, and it’s making you feel all fluttery.

“wow.”

he smiles a little bit. “i don’t know what that means.”

“it doesn’t mean anything really. i’ve only had sex a few times, and it doesn’t change anything either way.” you move your hand up and down his arm a little bit.

the tv plays in the background, and your mind flits to his original question.

“are you curious? is that why you asked?” you tilt you head toward the screen, though you keep your focus on him.

his eyes go a little wide, and the feeling of your hand on his arm suddenly becomes overwhelming.

“yeah, i—uh, i guess i am.” matt stumbles over his words, and your fingers travel higher to run through his hair slowly.

“you don’t have to be nervous. you can ask me anything you want, i’m not gonna judge.” you say softly.

your fingernails raking along his scalp makes him shudder slightly, a response that you both enjoy.

“i’m…more of a hands-on learner.” he rasps.

you let your fingers travel to rest on the back of his neck, drawing him in for a soft kiss. it’s short and sweet, and his eyelids flutter a bit as you pull away.

“what do you want to do?”

he pauses for a moment before deciding to give in and say what’s on his mind. “nick and chris aren’t home. maybe we should go to my room?”

you grin, nodding your head like you’re in a trance. you’re both trying to hide your giddiness as you scramble off of the couch, carelessly tossing the blankets aside.

you can feel him staring at your ass as you lead him through the hall, and he gives it a little smack of appreciation.

“matthew sturniolo!” you laugh, turning the doorknob to his bedroom.

it greets you warmly, and you always love it because the whole place smells like him. the overhead light is off; it’s just the singular lamp casting warm rays across the mattress.

“couldn’t help it.” he says, smile prominent in his tone as he locks the door behind you.

you slow to a stop at the foot of his bed, and he stands at your side, hand intertwined in yours. it makes your heart swell as he admires you with those charming eyes.

“are you sure? we really don’t have to, there’s no rush.” you squeeze his palm reassuringly.

matt lets go just so he can hold your head, kissing you hard as an answer. you literally can’t help but beam into his lips, and you put one hand on his chest to push him against his silk sheets.

he falls onto his back, propping himself up on his elbows so he can keep looking at you. you crawl on top of him, slowly settling on his hips.

he sucks in a shaky breath as you shift against him to get comfortable. you can feel matt growing harder beneath you as you lean down to give him another swift kiss, letting his mouth melt against yours.

then you move to his earlobe, pressing your lips to the hollow part of his neck. you swipe your tongue against his skin, biting down just a bit so you can suck on the area slightly.

he groans, laying down now so he can move his hands to grip your ass, pushing you against him harder to feel a little more friction. the thin material of your sweatpants doesn’t hide a whole lot, and he’s straining against you now.

they meet up one night, teetering between too tipsy and just tipsy enough to make bad decisions. it's been countless nights of not enough sleep and countless days that go on for too long that make falling into bed with each other easy. steve has had plenty of practice, eddie less so, but it doesn't matter. they stay in bed for hours, learning new places to touch, to taste, that make it the most fun either of them have had in months. it's a mix of kisses and smiles and breathless whispers and stomachs full of butterflies that could be mistaken for something else.

eddie finds out that the whole soulmate thing isn't some made up fairy tale when he looks over at steve, early morning sunlight streaming in through the blinds, tang in his mouth that lets him know he accidentally fell asleep. his stomach hurts, this pull that makes it impossible to look away from steve's face and it's crazy and it makes him want to run, but then his eyes are opening and a smile is pulling at his lips and oh.

How Would The TF2 Mercs React To Being Given A VR Headset?

I'm adding some mini content of each of them playing Richie's Plank so this isn't too short.

Demo is confused at first, but is excited to try it. Probably gets sick after about twenty minutes, but is having fun the entire time. He's first up to try the game, he's not too scared of heights, so he figures it'll be easy enough. This man falls on his ass immediately. Not because he's scared or freaks out, the poor guy just got super dizzy and is already way too drunk to walk straight, laughter ensues, and Demo sits on the couch, feeling a bit bitter, but eventually gets over it while laughing at the other Mercs attempts to walk the plank.

Engie is definitely the one who set the whole thing up. Well, Scout made the suggestion of trying to find a VR headset, and Engie was the only one who could manage to hook it up to the TV, but that's neither here nor there. He thinks the headset is super cool, "Ain't this thing neat?" Has a lot of fun walking the plank, actually does it with no problems, until he gets to the edge and starts looking around, peering over the edge, and then, oops, someone (Scout) pushed him a little and he falls of the plank. That scared him a little. He didn't scream, though (lies), and the other mercs didn't laugh (lies), but he had fun!

Heavy is not super excited. He doesn't like the idea of falling over like Demo or getting scared and screaming like Engie. He doesn't have to worry too much, though. Scout couldn't really push him if he tried. He's still nervous. He does like the idea of the headset. He likes how real it looks. Once he's ready to walk the plank, he does really well, which, in honesty, isn't surprising. He's not scared of heights, so he's totally fine walking to the edge and even looking over.

Medic thinks VR is such a cool concept, I wonder if there's any surgury games for this contraption that'd be silly. So maybe controversial take, but Medic is scared of heights, but can hide it so well it's crazy. I'm just imagining that after seeing Scout push Engie and seeing how the others have reacted, he goes to put the headset on and looks Scout dead in the eyes and threatens this man with every possible idea of body horror imaginable if he pushes him. He walks the plank and does well to hide the fact that he's internally freaking out. But manages to be the most composed and most scared. Does that, hands behind your back, chest out walk, does it calmly, he's internally crying, walks to the edge, and walks back. Perfectly calm. "Zhat wasn't bad at all." He's trying to hide the fact he's shaking.

Scout is the one who originally found the headset and suggested they all do Richie's Plank experience in the first place. He's played BeatSaber before on a headset he rented, so he thinks it's super cool he has one he can keep now. He talks the biggest game, and he's not scared of heights at all (yeah right) This is going to be easy. He nearly pissed himself when he actually looked over the edge. It made him feel just a tad sick, but he pushes through it, making jokes the entire time. He makes it back to the elevator, and then someone suggested he try nightmare mode, let's just say he had a harder time pretending that wasn't scary.

Sniper could care less about any of this. He thinks it's neat enough, but he'd rather not join in the "fun," but Scout practically begged him to try it just once, even promising not to push him, after Sniper continued to protest. He puts the headset on and is actually pretty impressed with how immersive it is. He walks the plank pretty casually, not scared. He wasn't scared of heights, so it was pretty easy for him to just enjoy the view. He'd definitely be more interested if they were playing SuperHot.

Spy is interested but pretends like he isn't. Complains about how pushy Scout is about this. He calls it silly and says that the others are being childish for being scared of something that couldn't be scary at all. He puts it on "only to prove to the others, that it's not scary in the slightest." Immediately has to hide the fact that he's a little shaken because he feels like he's actually in the game. Manages to walk the plank with confidence, all the while mocking the mercs for being scared of this. Scout finally got fed up and ended up being the one to push him. Spy may have lost his composer a little bit, Scout was promptly hunted down after that.

Soldier is super interested, "Can you play war games on it?" Is the first question on his mind. He thinks it's super cool. He walks the plank with a silly little walk and just has a good time. Even goes through the nightmare mode, with a goofy smile. He's just having a good time. I just feel like this man is so thrilled with the idea of being able to be in another world. Will definitely be hogging the headset after this.

Pyro realistically would be the only one who couldn't play with the VR headset due to their mask. BUT! Due to the magical power of "I can do whatever the fuck I want in my headcanons >:)" I'll say that Engie worked with it to help it fit over their mask. They're so happy! They were already super excited when Scout showed off the headset, and now they can play too? So cool! Similar to Soldier, they're just having a good time walking around and walking the plank just fine. Freaks everyone out when they cheerfully just jump off the end of the plank and hit the ground, giggling at the sounds it makes. But other than that, they had fun!

Some thoughts about Miguel, the comics, and what it could mean for Beyond the Spiderverse

This post has spoilers in it! It also contains mentions of suicide. And it's also VERY long. Consider yourself warned.

Comic vs Movie Comparison

Going to be starting this off with comparing movie Miguel and comic Miguel. And to clarify before we get into it, I don’t think deviation from the comics is a bad thing, and I love both versions. Also worth mentioning that at the time of writing this I've only read the original series from 1992, Dark Genesis, and a couple of the temporal crossover stories (which I'm considering non-canon for the sake of this discussion). I might make another post like this once I've finished all of them.

Starting off with story deviation there's... not a lot for me to really say here, since we don’t know much about movie Miguel’s backstory aside from the part where he accidentally caused a universe to collapse, so there’s not a lot to point out in terms of story deviation yet. However his personality and behavior is a little bit different. He’s more serious in the movie. Now Miguel has always been more serious than most other versions of Spiderman, but in the comics he’s still humorous. His humor just tends to be more sarcastic and cynical (think a bit like Deadpool) rather than the quips and wisecracks you usually get with Spiderman. He’s pessimistic and actually pretty mean, especially when not in his Spiderman alter ego. I'll admit I do miss his sarcasm in retrospect, but at the same time it wouldn't really suit the role the movie has set him up to play. Plus his characterization in the movie is still super good, and I like it a lot.

Miguel in the comics does tend to be a lot less bouncy and acrobatic than most other spidermen, and that definitely shows in the movie too. But the movie did something I personally love, and pushed that aspect further, and made him almost animalistic rather than just a Spiderman that fights a bit more close quarters. He’s intimidating, he’s brutal, every move has weight and power that you can feel through the animation. They kept the inertia of his movements in mind, something they do for all of the characters but is especially noticeable and fun with characters like Miguel who have a lot of force behind their movements (This is also why I love how The Prowler is animated so much). One of my highest praises for these movies is that every character has their own unique style, and Miguel’s fits him very well and stays true to the comics.

And the last point I'm going to talk about before jumping in to speculation is the powers. There's not a lot for me to say here either in regards to comparison, since we've not really gotten a chance to see how movie Miguel's powers work, but I still do want to address it because if it's the same as in the comics, then he's actually pretty unique! Makes sense, considering he didn't get them from the standard radioactive spider-bite (more on that later). I am sorry to say but he is (probably) not a vampire (I say probably because it's entirely possible he is in the movie. But assuming it's the same as the comics, he isn't actually a vampire, just looks like one, since judging by the fact that Blade is... around... vampires are real in his world). Do keep drawing him as a vampire tho its hot.

Anyway. He does have those fangs in the comics! He also has venom! As in the paralytic toxin spiders use to catch prey, not the character. Another thing that sets him apart is that he... doesn't seem to have a spider-sense? At all? He has super enhanced normal senses, but not that sort of extra sense that pretty much every other spiderman seems to have. I don't know if this is true in the movie but it would be sort of neat. He also isn't sticky! Instead he has those talons to hook onto surfaces, those are a part of him, not the suit. Unless they changed it in the movie which is the one and only change i think would be super lame. But since they gave him the fangs I doubt it. There is one noteworthy difference between his powers in the comic and the movie, and it's that in the movie his webs seem to be technology based, maybe some form of energy or hard light technology, while in the comics he has spinnerets in his arms. It could also be a mix of both, or that could just be how his natural webs look. Either way I'm curious why that change was made, even if it was as simple as just to fit the futuristic aesthetic.

Miguel's Backstory

Onto the next section! I'm going to do my best to give a brief recap of Miguel's backstory, for anyone who doesn't know it. For the sake of simplicity I'm going to assume that his backstory in the movie is more or less the same as in the original comics, up to the part where he goes to another universe.

In the year 2099, most major cities are controlled by the interests of oppressive mega-corporations. Nueva York, controlled by Alchemax and their corporate police, is literally divided between the Uptown and the Downtown, the uptown being the shining, sparkling futuristic city where all of the rich and important people live, while the downtown is the crumbling remains of New York that have been built over, where all of those deemed worthless by Alchemax are confined to.

Miguel O'Hara is the head of the genetics project in Alchemax's R&D branch, leading their efforts regarding gene splicing and genetic manipulation. Miguel is a snarky, standoffish man, who’s just generally a jerk to pretty much everyone. He has a soft spot for Dana, his fiance, Lyla, his apartment's AI companion, and Gabriel, his younger brother, and... that's about it. Despite his rather high position in the company, Miguel has a strong distaste for Alchemax and its unethical scientific practices, and is determined to delay human genetics testing until he's sure it's 100% safe. After his reservations are ignored by the higher ups, and hasty human testing leads to the death of a man under Miguel's unwilling hand, he decides to quit working for the company. However, he's a valuable asset. Tyler Stone, the head of Alchemax, laces a drink for Miguel with Rapture, a hallucinogenic drug that alters genetic structure to cause almost guaranteed addiction and withdrawal so severe it can be deadly. Coincidentally, Rapture is only legally produced and distributed by Alchemax.

Rather than let himself be manipulated, Miguel decided to use his own genetic modification equipment to attempt to reverse the alterations made by Rapture. During the procedure, Miguel's supervisor, resentful of Miguel's fast rise through the ranks and his constant disrespect for his superiors, sabotaged the process in an attempt to kill him. Instead he ended up activating the gene splicing program, and spliced Miguel and a spider together. Why was a spider present at all, you may ask? The final result of this genetic manipulation project was super-soldiers, and Miguel had decided to take inspiration from a certain hero back in the Heroic Age. Spider based enhancements seemed to work pretty well back then, why not give it another go?

After emerging from the process very much not dead, but no longer human, Miguel has to navigate new powers, and the new dangers that come with the mantle he's accidentally taken. It's around this point when Miguel starts to have thoughts of taking his own life, and pretty consistently continues to throughout the story.

I'm not giving a full recap, this story is already long and I don't remember specifics for most things. Miguel faces a myriad of villains, future versions of classic spiderman villains and new foes as well. He also takes over Alchemax after usurping Tyler Stone, which I'll touch on again later. But throughout all of it a consistent theme for him is loss. Over the course of the original comics, he loses almost everyone he has any kind of connection with, in one way or another.

He has a falling out with his fiance, Dana, and before he can try to reconnect, she gets caught in the crossfire during a fight with Venom and dies in his arms. He finally starts to repair his broken relationship with his mother, only for her to be shot during a raid on Alchemax after she started working as a secretary. Gabriel eventually becomes so overcome with resentment for Miguel that he takes up the mantle of Green Goblin, and attempts to ruin his life and also kill him. Xina, an old flame he was rekindling his relationship with, left him again without so much as a goodbye. The only one he has left to turn to for any sort of familiarity or comfort is Lyla, and even she tried to kill him once. He cuts himself off from everyone who tries to make a connection with him again, because he's convinced that being close to him leads to people hating him, dying, or both. Assuming Miguel's backstory is the same up to this point, he's already at the lowest he's ever been. And probably stays there until he and Lyla develop the technology to travel between universes. Here's where the speculation kicks in.

Miguel finds another universe like his own. Another universe with another Miguel O'hara, except this one never became Spider-man. And this one never lost all of the same people that the other did. He and Dana got married, they have a daughter. They're happy. Not only does he have proof that it isn't just being close to him that gets people hurt, he has an opportunity. Because this other Miguel is dead, and this other Miguel isn't Spider-man. He could take his place and be free of his own unhappiness, his own burdens, and save the inhabitants of this parallel world the pain of losing him. And for a brief time he's happy, he doesn't have to be Spider-man, he has a family and a life that isn't full of danger and loss. And then he loses it all again, and is left once again with nothing but the feeling that it is his fault.

Further speculation, I think that's probably why he's so caught up with "canon"; it means that the losses he faced were inevitable. It makes him feel just a little bit better, a little less guilty. Yes, he's trying to protect other universes from possibly meeting the same fate as the one he caused to collapse, but he's also trying to make himself feel better in the process, even if he doesn't realize it.

Theories

This bit is going to be mostly unstructured, since I don't have any huge theories, just certain smaller points or plot elements I think are going to happen.

Miguel’s ties to Alchemax are going to come up, and they’re going to be important.

Alchemax is a company that originated in the 2099 comics. There has to be a reason they chose it for the company in Into the Spiderverse, because there’s dozens of other evil companies they could’ve chosen. But they chose Alchemax, the company Miguel has ties to, and then they set him up as an antagonist. It's going to be brought up, and it's going to be important.

Miguel and Miles will relate to each other

I say this because they're both very much outliers. They aren't their world's original Spider-man, they both have different powers and backstories than the other Spider-men. I feel like this is going to be called out, both as a way to call out Miguel's hypocrisy, and as a way for Miles to relate to him and find common ground.

Miguel was injecting himself with a gene stabilizer, or with something Rapture related

I know I'm not the first person to suggest the first part of this point. It makes sense--we know that the mutations from the spider DNA didn't all happen immediately. I also can't imagine that having your genome that dramatically altered is very good for you. I haven't seen anyone suggest the second part, but I think that's probably because it's not seeming very likely at this point. I don't want to rule out the possibility, though.

Peter B is going to be important to resolving the storyline with Miguel/Have a heart to heart with him

During the movie I got the sense that Peter B is trying to befriend Miguel, or at least to get him to open up a bit more. I think this is because he sees himself in Miguel. Yes, they're very different, but they're similar in ways that matter. Peter B looks at Miguel and he sees someone who's given up; on his principles, on his role, on his own life. Peter B has never been openly suicidal like Miguel, but before he met Miles he was still very much in the same spot. He had still given up on his ideals, on being Spider-man, and he made the choice to stay and destroy the collider not for a noble reason, but because he didn't care if he died. I think that Peter has recognized that same mentality in Miguel, and is trying to reach out to pull him back from that edge, like Miles did for him. I think the two of them have a lot of potential for some heartfelt interaction, and I hope I'm picking up on something that's actually there and intentional.

So that's pretty much it! This post is a lot more ramble-y and unstructured than I wanted it to be, but it was really just a way for me to get my thoughts out.

My opinion on Jaren in The Blood Traitor:

Spoilers.

Frankly, Kiva is having a goddamn awful time in the last book.

First of all, she is hooked on angle dust and back in a place she'd thought she'd finally escaped. Not so good. But Cresta is helping her through it. (I love Cresta.)

Then she's kidnapped by Navok, who basically makes her his slave. She's rescued (yay!) everyone hates her (nay!).

When they're in the market and they're trying to get information about the rings out of that seer lady (I don't remember her name, sorry), she gives Kiva two options: kiss Jaren (the person who she is under the impression hates her) or take some angle dust (which she had previously been addicted to, and only recently recovered from). That is such an awful thing to do. The fact that Kiva chooses the angles dust over Jaren shows how much she's doing for him. He hates her. She doesn't choose that option because of that.

Later, she says, half delirious, "I’m in love with him, can you believe it?". I'm not really sure how to put what I'm thinking into words, but you can see what she did for him, right?

And then he kissed her when she was under the influence, half-unconscious and falling asleep?! What the fuck, Jaren. You need the tea talk.

Anyway, after Jaren nearly dies falling off that cliff, Kiva is crying a bit (understandable), but he kind of makes fun of her for it—at least, that's the was I saw it.

Then,

Jaren: You’ve been avoiding me. I have no idea how you feel. So I asked.

Kiva: I’ve been avoiding you because it’s what you want.

Jaren: I’ve been trying to talk to you for days, you know that. It’s been incredibly frustrating. You’ve been avoiding me because you’re afraid.

Kiva: I’m not afraid.

Jaren: You are. You’ve barely been able to look at me for weeks.

Kiva: You’re the one who wouldn’t look at me! You told me you wanted nothing to do with me — so I gave you that!

Jaren: I lied.

He says "I lied" like Kiva should have known that, should have seen through him and talked to him or whatever. It's like he expects, after a whole book of hating—or at least seeming to hate—her, that she accept that he was lying. That it was all fake. I think that's unfair. He's assuming that Kiva is avoiding him because she's "afraid", and completely ignoring his own actions. If I was Kiva, I would also be avoiding him because, know know, he's acting like he hates me.

By saying Kiva is afraid, it's a little bit like pinning all the angst on her. Which, yes, to be fair she did technically steal his powers, but their angsting is on both of them.

I think Jaren has a good reason for hating her. I would to if she'd stolen my magical powers. The thing that makes me hate him, however, and not her, is the fact that after spending the whole book ignoring her, being rude, and implying that he hates her and never wants to have anything to do with her ever again, he says "I could never hate you, Kiva." It seems, to me, a bit like he's gaslighting her.

He proceeds to tell her all the ways it isn't her fault. A good thing, but it goes against everything he's said and acted for the whole book.

I get that they obviously need to make up and stuff, but I think it could have been done better. In enemies(ish) to lovers, it tends to work better (for me) if they do hate each other and don't deny it. It's more like "I hated you before, but I don't anymore" instead of "I've pretended to hate you, but I actually don't".

Because Jaren does have a real reason to hate her. He could have just said like "I'm sorry for being an ass, but I promise I see you are now. And it's not your fault." I think that would make more sense.

Anyway, this is, once again, just my opinion. I'm not trying to be particularly hateful and if you loved this book, good for you.

Top 5 canon divergence options for xue yang

oh interesting! had to think about this one mostly because I was trying to figure out a solid top five when I feel like there are many good options and I truly enjoy a lot of them. but hmmmm here goes

1. divergence after xue yang kills the chang but either (CQL) xiao xingchen and song lan end up taking him away (instead of going to the nie) or (MDZS) somehow he and xiao xingchen are intercepted before reaching jinlintai. This is one where it's mostly like...diverging at a point before things go completely to shit in a really personal way, so much potential for hostile road trips and reluctant bonding, get song lan in there or don't, either way there's some fun times a-comin

2. xiao xingchen knows he's dealing with xue yang from the get go in yi city. I mean, obviously I wrote a big bang fic that ran away from me entirely on this premise, clearly I'm into it. but also in general! just a thing I find fascinating, because I like forcing xiao xingchen to reckon with moral dilemmas and thinking about him trying to figure out what to do with (a) his responsibility for a wounded person he's taking care of, (b) his responsibility to Justice (and also song lan), and (c) the fact that I just don't think xiao xingchen really wants to personally kill people. that's not what he descended the mountain for, you guys!

and then having xue yang alive and fully himself, no lies or pretending at all, makes for some very interesting character dynamics, and actually does meaningfully change the shape of their relationship in some ways.

3. just straight up...keeping things in weird happily domestic but also vaguely ominous limbo (i.e. no song lan intervention). this one is the one that has maybe the most potential to be fucked up in a fun way, because the way I always want this to feel is kind of like... okay, things are fine, things are okay, stable and working out. and it's also the one that just looks canon compliant, but it doesn't have to be canon compliant, and my favorite are fics that make it...not canon compliant in some way (like, for instance, xiao xingchen finding out who xue yang is but not killing him/choosing to say nothing for whatever reason). it's that sense of...all is not quite well but it could be. but it isn't. but it is. but it isn't.

4. xiao xingchen comes back to life! yay! somehow this does not fix everything, shockingly. I mean I always have a weakness for "character is resurrected but things are actually still fucked up and the psychological damage is real" as a trope in my narratives, and doing that here has the bonus of all the splash damage because xiao xingchen being alive but fucked up means xue yang has achieved the goal driving him! he has xiao xingchen back! and he will do anything to keep that. but also now he doesn't know what to do because there is not a clear problem > solution pathway anymore. and making xue yang deal with that and have to figure it out pleases me.

5. xue yang survives yi city somehow and hooks up with song lan (not necessarily sexually but also maybe). we all know I love a good "enemies brought together by common grief" as a thing, and at this point things are so tangled up between these two that it's like. nobody hates you like I do. nobody understands you like I do. I want you dead/destroyed. the world would feel wrong without you in it. good fucking shit.

Days of having anxiety build up wasn't fun, but Damian wouldn't dare admit his feelings to anyone. It's weakness, he can not be weak.

"Timothy, I wish to spar with you"

"Good, get ready then" Damian grabbed his katana as Tim grabbed one of the spare ones.

They got into a stance, not a second later they began. The steel clanging at every strike, the adrenaline making Damian forget his problems. Tim seemed to be having fun himself.

The steel clanging echoed as Damian and Tim were at a standoff facing each other hoping to win against this force of strength.

"You're lacking Dami. I think you're getting soft"

Damian smirked "Tt. You wish I was, you're just afraid I'm gonna kick your ass" "Oh yeah?" Tim twisted his katana at an angle to which it hooked under Damian's and he flung it to the left. Damian's katana struck the wall and clanged to to the ground. The force of being unarmed had caused Damian to fall back, when he frowned and looked back at Tim, Damian's heart pounded. Tim was holding the katana close to his face as Damian couldn't do anything, but watch the blade.

The door that Damian had locked was slammed opened and the person who caused it was Tim.

Then everything drew to a blank, his mind snapped, light leaving his eyes as he stared at the soft carpet floor. "Damian, hey can you hear me?" "Yes" "Try to look at me" Damian gave his full attention to Tim. "Yes sir" "Oh... oh no you shutdown didn't you? Oh God what do I do?"

The window was foggy, Damian could only drift with his thoughts overtaking him as the outside world seemed to be but a speck.

"Come here"

He did as told. Tim's hands were trembling, he doesn't always see this side of Damian. It's terrifying to know that in a matter of seconds a child can become an obedient solider. Tim grasped onto Damian and pulled him in as close as he can. "Stay with me. Your tougher than this, I know you are. Which is why, when you falter I'll be here as well to steady you. So stay with me Damian and breath"

something that bugs me, but also i understand, but continues to bug me is how everyone is placing the blame on sam for starting the apocalypse. he played a part, that he was manipulated and tricked into, and the powers that be wanted it to happen and didn't do anything to stop it. if we're gonna place the blame on sam like this, then it should equally placed on dean for breaking the first seal. i don't think either is fair. it was a systemic thing that lead to those events coming to pass, the individuals being forced into playing certain parts. anyway. it feels like every turn it's like well SOMEONE STARTED THE APOCALYPSE and yeah, okay, but also, no. :p

Finally had the time to sit down and watch Doctor Who's third special.

So, I was really excited about the Toymaker's comeback because while I haven't seen the Classic Who's episodes with him, it did look like a fun villain to have and oh boy did NPH deliver! He's been a joy to watch. But I will say this special is a let down from Wild Blue Yonder for me, possibly even from The Star Beast.

It needed to be LONGER. There is so much good ideas thrown around but none are like, discussed enough to actually matter ?? Like The Giggle is a fun concept, the idea of a laugh being subliminally implanted in humans brains to make them feel scorned at and lash out in retaliation, but it's not actually explored at all! Like Mel even says it's just a simple arpeggio I think, which would raise the question would any other similar enough jingle produce the same reaction? Who knows because big laser goes brrr and that's it.

The Toymaker's domain, the toy shop bigger on the inside that answers to no rhyme or logic if not games filled with horrors definetely could've carried one full episodes(even more!), but it is instead quickly dispatched, because we have to go back to show the totally not UNIT spinoff setup.

The game being catch is a fun idea but boring and atrocious to watch (I loved (sarcastic) how the Doctors were doing stunts and stuff while NPH just raised a hand multiple times and that was it). It also takes no advantage of there being actually two Doctors - rock paper scissods would've worked better honestly? First thing that comes to mind, and the fact that the Toymaker is stopped because he dropped it when he could've just jumped and caught it is dumb. And I know that it's because the game bounds him to keep it fair, but his adversaries could've done the same albeit by regenerating after going splat.

And now. Now. The big elephant in the room. Bigeneration. I don't know what to think, because the show doesn't really explain it. My current guess is that it's a myth and the fact that The Toymaker is there plus salt at the edge of the universe made it seemingly real by pulling Fifteen from Fourteen future: he is stated to be older, which would not be the case if this was a split regeneration, and is in a better place mentally because he, as Fourteen, stopped and rested and stuff. But that's my headcanon, because there's no confirmation and RTD has been obviously not very keen to confirm or disprove either option, I assume to keep each door open until one definetely needs to be closed.

But as for now? I don't like it. I was ok with Fourteen especially because he's not Ten (despite having similarities) and because he would be here for three specials only, but this Has Been Certainly A Choice to make huh. First of all, reusual of plotlines much? Tennant having a copy "to gift" to a previous companion? But also, The Doctor's regeneration has always been a baton pass of sorts and that felt missing. Also the way Fifteen is the one going off with the copy TARDIS while Fourteen kept the OG... Don't like it nuh huh. Plus I hope the show goes either off current day Earth a lot or solves the Fourteen's plotline because the moment an invasion comes you will have to answer to why isn't Fourteen helping?

But anyway, I am choosing to trust because this three Specials have effectively revived my interest in Doctor Who, and I think RTD knows how not undermine the entire thing. I hope.

And let's be honest even if I didn't trust, I would still be watching because Ncuti's Doctor HAD ME HOOKED.

2. What was their first word?

No one knows. There's no video, it's not written down anywhere, and both his parents are no longer alive. Some of his older neighbors on his childhood street like to say it was "couyon", that's probably just them bein nice though. Cade thinks it was "fucker" but he was nine at the time so he isn't sure, it's highly likely it was some sort of swear, though. Nobody fuckin knows!!

5. What was their favorite toy/s?

He had an old Diecast of Dale Earnhart Sr.'s No.15 "Wrangler" Ventura that he took everywhere with him until he was around ten. NASCAR was a huge part of Tim's childhood, not that he had any particular passion for it, it was just always on and always came up in conversation when he was little.

Tim would squint one eye and hold it up to the truck window and pretend Dale Sr. was racin them, he'd never make the noises out loud, but in his head, it sounded like a real NASCAR tournament.

His maternal grandparents got it for him after his mother died, he doesn't know why they thought a race car was going to help but he appreciates that they thought of him at least. Tim still has the toy car but it lives on a shelf now, not in his left hand bein dragged across any flat surface he gets near. His looks much worse for wear than the photo, but that's the one he has.

15. What is their most traumatic experience as a child?

Probably the whole being molested part- This is sort of answered in this ask.

He was four when it started and it continued till he was eight. It was a family friend, one of his father's coworkers, someone who was supposed to be safe and trusted. Tim felt like it was his fault. Felt like he deserved this punishment because... he didn't know why. He could only blame himself, he couldn't understand how it could be his abuser's fault. Until he learned that some people are sick and cruel. Then he understood what innocence was and how he missed out on it.

Tim finally told Cade one night and three days later their father's coworker Magically ended up in a river, seventeen miles from home, being drug up by the DFW with drag hooks. There was no killer connected to the case, it was filed as a drowning and never reconsidered. Tim used humor to cope, never thought it was a "big enough deal" to get help, and later compartmentalized it and let it rot away on its own. He's doin a lot better now, thanks to good friends and others' stories online.

29. What did they want to be when they grew up?

Ever since he was two he wanted to be a rodeo bull rider... The only hiccup was the fact that he never had the opportunity to try it in competition. Tim doesn't know why but he always thought it looked fun, like it wasn't really a job, but he knows it's a legitimate sport so he has respect for it. He's a fuckin boss at mechanical bulls though! If there's one at a bar, he's gonna talk to the operator and get them to go crazy with the controls, try to out-maneuver him, it doesn't happen often. There's a photo of him on the mechanical bull hung up in his hometown's bar, underneath it is written "Champion Bull Rider of 1998: Timothy Carwood Gutterson (15)" directly on the wallpaper. He may or may not have a cowboy hat in his free hand.

Alright! Alright! Put the gun down. If you wanna know about my little South Park OC, it's under the cut that contain rewritten elements to Stick of Truth and a small ounce of Fractured but Whole

Danny is the new kid in South Park. He and his parents moved there from Tampa, Florida after an incident that Danny was the catalyst for that he can’t remember due to the medication his parents got him on. It makes his brain all foggy so it’s hard for him to recall what happened before they moved to South Park other than they hopped from hotel to hotel a lot. The majority of the time, the pills made him sleep, so it's hard to tell what is real and what's fake.

His mom, Bianca, is Italian-American and came from Brooklyn. During the events of SoT, she is pregnant with Danny’s baby brother. She works at the abortion clinic as a receptionist.

His dad, Gan, is Thai-American and came from Mesa, Arizona. He and Bianca met when Gan moved to Brooklyn to pursue maintenance work at some apartments there and the rest is history. He now works at the retirement home as a maintenance worker.

Danny does look more like his mom, but has his dad’s nose and skin tone. Because of his upbringing, he knows Thai, English, and some Italian words and phrases (at least enough for a basic conversation).

He's a 4th grader (so around 9ish years old) and was to start going to South Park elementary the Monday after they moved in. He's soft spoken at first due to being unable to recall his life before South Park, but he slowly starts to recall things over the course of playing with the other kids as the days went by and became more crazy.

A running gag in the SoT arch of his story is that he's always trying to correct Cartman and the other human kids, getting progressively more angry as time goes on. Butters, however, calls him by his chosen name for the game, 'Daniel the Rogue' (He chose the thief class because he can be quiet and mysterious), but only when Cartman isn't around. When he was taken to the Elves, he actually felt more welcome with them given they would call him by his chosen title and said it in a way that made him feel included in the game rather than just another rando. It's no wonder he chose to betray Koopa Keep and lead the goth kids to Kyle.

A major plot hook I got rid of was the fact that Danny doesn't fart, but the boy can belch. Everything involving farts and butts kind of weirds me out, so I wanted to keep it to a minimum with Danny and focus on another equally gross bodily function. To counter balance everything, Danny will ocassionally get acid reflux and puke if he burps too much.

He still, however, would still have to fart on a man's balls for the sake of plot.

I have yet to play The Fractured but Whole, but I can tell you he hates the name Cartman yet again gave him, which would be Belchsack, for his super hero name. When he's sent to infultrate the other franchise with Professor Chaos, I think he's paired with Mysterion at one point and they have a heart to heart due to Danny not looking like he's having much fun with playing super heros like he did with the fantasy characters. Danny would tell him it's because he yet again didn't get a say in his name and he was upset that people won't listen to him.

Mysterion let's him rant then asks what he'd want to be called instead and starts to call him that, which seems to lift Danny's spirits about playing super heros with the other kids. At this time, his parents had been sneaking his medication into his dinners, so his memory starts becoming hazy again and he hates how he can barely remember his adventures now.

I can't think of anything else to talk about with him at the moment, but I'll try to sketch out a family portrait and post it when I can. If you want me to give context to anything, let me know. <3

It really is such a long time to decide that this is what you'd like to see but there's the thing of it when you lose all flexibility in being open to what you're actually going to see, it's going to make you miserable and feel like it's bad writing when it's just writing that isn't yours.

I didn't know they ended up together either but thought they were adorable too. I actually don't remember how I found out they end up together, tbh. Maybe a random comment about them having their season? It got me to look into the books and then start reading them. And I'm with you, thank god it's a canon ship, I would have been so irritated otherwise, hah.

He's come back more flirty each time so I have no doubts he was learning how to do all of that while gone. There's no way he got burned by Marina then set off to travel without his brother's words in his head about it. Even if he was trying to prove something to himself, he would have discovered that sex and love are easily separated when one has the motivation to do so. It looks like they're finally trying to add some of Colin's book character to the show version and I think some people maybe don't get that he is not looking for love when he falls in love with Penelope, it quite literally just comes up behind him and smacks him upside the head without his permission so the idea of him saving himself in that way isn't something I've seen him ever profess in the show anyhow.

I have no idea how I got myself on the Debling hate train, it just happened.😭 Maybe it's because I don't get the vibes passing the test when it comes to Penelope? Not because I think he's evil but I just think she's not into it? He does give her something I think she needs outside of herself and Colin and that's okay but also get away from girl I am going to need you to back up, sir.

Our little compulsive liar! I agree though, she really needs to grow up and let both sides of her come together. Even Pen being in love with Colin is sort of her just loving in his direction? She's not being true to herself a lot of the time with him because she doesn't want to rock the boat but the boat (carriage) needs rocked if it's going to go anywhere. Truly the only thing I think I want to see is him learning about LW before anything major between them happens. I get why they might not for drama but that feels too close to the Marina situation. Maybe they could make it work but I think it needs to come out first for sure.

The man is so obsessed with her, I love it. He goes from 0 to 100 so quick and I do love that in a man, haha.

Oh my god the shippers of Neal and Emma's were insanely intense. They would, from what I remember reading when it was going on, just randomly make stuff up about Hook and then treat it like it was fact from then on even when offered proof it was nonsense. As insufferable as he was for sure. Good on you for killing him off in your fics.

Phillip in the books is truly my favorite after Colin. I hope Eloise's season gives him some of his book personality, he's so complex but also so into Eloise, it's great.

Same! I think how he learns it is the thing I'm most interested in so far. I think it's entirely possible Eloise could slip, not on purpose because I don't think she wants to hurt Penelope but with Colin being so intent on finding LW, it's possible she says something accidentally. Or if he sees her and follows. I kind of want her to yell it at him while they're fighting, ha. I want that anger to turn to passion and go from there.

For real, theorizing should be fun, not a competition. It's not that serious.😄

This is why we need to live in fan fiction and just let our minds drift in and out of different ideas, so we don’t get stuck in one place for too long. It’s the only way to survive the long expanse between seasons. And people forget that the show is not written by them. So, we have to be ok with what we get and if we aren’t pick up the pen to write our own ending.

I don’t know if it makes me a simpleton that I usually just end up following the story and picking canon ships…maybe I just don’t stray too far from a tale. I get too swept up in things normally to have time to do so. I don’t blame those that don’t, they just have better imaginations than me.

Colin is a flirt; he has flirted with Pen more than once. I mean you can’t tell me “What a barb” was not a flirt. And don’t get me started on the way he was staring at her when she was talking about her purpose, you would have thought he was staring at his next biscuit. His brain may not realize it but his body has been teasing her for years. I think you are correct; he is not looking for love, it hits him upside the head suddenly and without any permission that he gave it. He assumes he is only offering assistance and the next he's trying to consume everything about her, including her time, attention, focus.

I did read that the picnic scene is Colin coming to her rescue and my God I almost died on the spot. I assumed that is what it was but holy moly, hero Colin saving Pen while Lord Tater Tot gets to hold her. He will be beside himself. All I saw was red…Get your hands off our girl! I’m stepping into the Debling hate ring with you!!

I love it when women accept who they are, the good, the bad and the ugly. It’s not easy to accept all of you. And honestly Pen has some real soul searching to do because she doesn’t write nice things about herself either, so she’s got some stuff to work out there! I would LOVE for her to show the Pen that she’s been showing in all these promos…because that Pen could go a few rounds with Colin! Tell him how it is and how she feels, and I am here for that! That Pen can match Colin in that carriage! 0 to 100 for sure!

The stuff they made up about the toxicity of Hook. When in fact there was never a better story of redemption written for one person than Killian Jones. Like they killed that thing. It was beautiful. I could kiss that man. The only complaint I had was they should have ended it a season earlier. As much as I loved Officer Jones…It was not the same show or my Hook! But ship wars are notorious for making up absolute toxic shit from nothing.

Nothing about this show should be serious. IT’S A ROMANCE NOVEL TURNED INTO A TELEVISION SHOW ON NETFLIX! Our live wont end without it! But I’ll be really unhappy if it’s not May 16th soon!

Darui for the Character Ask Game!

I love this man very much, he's so handsome and I love me a good fellow fag 🧡

Favorite thing about him: I'm a sucker for a good electric powers haver but also he's just so good looking? maybe the fact that now he's in charge of the Cloud and I trust him very much. god I love 4A so much and how that middle aged man would literally jump out a window to get somewhere but it's nice to have a successor who has a more relaxed pace. which is funny because anyone with Lightning powers you'd generally peg as the get up and go type.

Least favorite thing about him: not a big fan of the facial hair. it looks better in the manga where it's a beard/mustache combo but just the mustache? is just not it. sorry man. also another petty thing: we have his Shippuden self in Voltage but I want the version of him that's Lord Fifth. please id like him, Chojuuro, and Kurotsuchi to go with Hokage Naruto + mature adult Kazekage Gaara. even just aesthetically it's a brain pleasing group.

BROTP: I love how much 4A trusts him. So much so that that ended up being the order of succession. and I think it was a good call.

OTP: him and C are literally married sorry I dunno what to tell people. though I think he's hooked up a few times with Chojuuro (they both have, honestly) just for fun.

NOTP: with any women because I simply think he's gay.

First headcanon: I think his successor will be Tarui rather than either of her teammates. and because I'm also sure the next Mizukage will Be Buntan AND we know Sarada wants to be Hokage, imagine the playful hostility (that isn't real hostility) in the Kage Summits at first between Lady Hokage and the two fellow leaders she once beat down. Tsuchikage Sekki + Kazekage Shinki will simply have to wait for it to relax before any work gets done. anyway yeah I think she will end up being his choice for Lady Sixth and I foresee future training between them going really well. he's a patient person and isn't going to lose his mind if something takes a while or messes up a few times, whether it's jutsu or politics.

Another headcanon: I think it was C who first made the mutual feelings actually known out in the open. clearly they both liked each other a long time but I think Darui is a bit unsure how to approach a situation like that. I also think he has a hard time figuring out how to turn people down (but always does so gently) when they ask if he's single.

One more headcanon: I'd like to think he and his beloved have adopted, and specifically teenagers who usually get passed over by families. probably fostering first then making it an official adoption. he just seems like he would make a cool dad but isn't interested in having biological children. meanwhile C just straight up had a vasectomy because he's Definitely not looking for blood related kids. even though there's no chance he would because both of them are cis gay men. Darui supported him fully because hey man you know what you want and you should be able to get it without a fight.

Unpopular opinion: what's actually unpopular with him, though? he's the unpopular part of the equation I think cuz I don't see enough of him out there. I dunno, maybe the idea that I prefer to think he's gay instead of bi, or that I think he's someone who came from a normal two parent household instead of losing one or both parents like a lot of characters have? I think he's had a pretty easy life in general, but will do anything to help those who have not that ask for help.

Fight I'd like to see: it would be cool to see how well Omoi + Karui could hold up against him. hell, throw in Samui on their side too since we know this man was close with 4A for a reason. a little friendly combat never hurt anyone anyway so have at it. tbh I'd also probably have a good time watching him try to contend with the fireball that is Atsui.

I was recently going through your oc tag because I was bored and i found the drawings you did of pinchy and violette. their designs are so cool! how did you come up with the ideas for them and are they like partners or something?

Pinchy I came up with back in 2020 off the idea of "there aren't that many insect characters". I picked a scorpion in particular (even thought they're not insects) because I think they're cool. Then I decided to make him a bandit because I thought that would make for a neat aesthetic and a fun role to play. And then his design I based off those two factors. The bandit thing is where the knife proficiency and outfit idea came from. The eye plate things came from his species, and then his tail was stylized based off a combination. Instead of going for the usual bead-shaped things for his tail style, I stylized it after a grappling hook because I thought that would be more interesting. :) I did do an emblem of a typical scorpion stinger on his vest though.

As for Violette, I'm not exactly sure why or where it came from, but my brain conjured her up in a dream at one point. I actually don't remember much about the dream itself or what she did in it anymore and the only reason I remember that much was because I wrote it down when I made her design. lol But I thought she was cool enough that I had to make her real, so I did. Her design most likely isn't 1:1 with the dream version, but I'm still happy with her. From what I wrote down, the species, fact she has a mechanical arm, and her bounty hunter job were all conjured up by the dream. Everything else from outfit, palette, hairstyle, etc I based around that stuff.

As for their relationship, they're basically rivals and aren't really all that fond of each other. Violette doesn't like Pinchy because of him stealing, his attitude regarding it, and how she feels like he made her look like an idiot when they first met. Pinchy doesn't like Violette because she literally tried to kill him the first time they met. LMAO At this point, they sometimes run into each other on missions, where they then proceed to fight over the "prize/target", and that contributes to them hating each other, too, because now they're just annoyed that the other keeps showing up and getting in their way. Although I did do a thing in a friend's Discord server where they were forced to work together in order to secure a stolen painting that would then be traded for a reward. I honestly really liked writing their dynamic in that thing, so debating maybe doing more stuff where they work together more? Not sure yet.

Violette didn't exist until two years after I made Pinchy, so them being rivals wasn't a thing until very recently. They were both originally separate, until I thought about how they'd make neat foils to each other based on having a very similar experience with childhood trauma. One took what happened and turned it into "can't trust anyone; I'm all that matters" and the other took it and turned it into a chance to try to help people. (I think it's obvious which one is which. lol)

Also I just realized when I went to look up how long ago I made the both of them that they almost share a birthday. Pinchy was made on August 9th of 2020 and Violette was made on August 17th of 2022. Didn't even realize/register that until now, so that's pretty neat. And yep, those are gonna be their canon birthdays (8/9 and 8/17). lol
