who wants to hear my unhinged idea for Lucas Friar's backstory?? (full disclosure I haven't watched girl meets world in a minute so take any details with a grain of salt if they contradict canon but they gave us absolutely no information about lucas so probably not) TW: emotionally distant serial cheater father, brief mention of postpatrum depression pain killer addiction and rehab, implied microagressions/racism
okay I'm just gonna jump right in and spill the tea. Pappy Joe Friar raised Lucas's dad, Waylon, on their family's ranch, and his wife died before they could have any more kids. Waylon dreamed of something bigger and went to fancy business school and got a fancy high paying job, completely forgot his roots, and turned into a workaholic jerk. He cheated on his first wife with Lucas's mom Jenna, but they didn't have any kids, so the first divorce was fast and clean. Waylon wanted Jenna to step up as this perfect socialite wife, but between that and trying to take care of a baby practically by herself, it got to be too much for her. between all that and the postpartum depression, she developed a painkiller addiction. Waylon cheated on her with his third wife, but eventually figured out something was wrong and sent her to a rehab and wellness center. In the process, she lost custody of Lucas, and Waylon stopped her from being able to see him or contact him at all to proctect his family's reputation. He had two kids with his third wife when Lucas was a kid, then eventually they divorced due to Waylon cheating on her (yet again) and her stealing money from him. They spend weeks with Waylon and weekends with their mom.
His fourth wife Grace is the one that really stuck, and they have four more kids together. His dad isn't around much, and when he is, things are tense, so Lucas spends as much time at Pappy Joe's ranch as he can get away with. At this point, Lucas has a lot of anger and frustration, but can't do anything about it and can't disobey his father or harm their reptuation, which leaves him being really fucking angry all the time in 6th and 7th grade. His siblings are all too young for him to feel like he can bond with them, his stepmom is nice enough but she's preoccupied with the younger kids and he feels like she doesn't care about him. All this comes to a boiling point when the fight happens. He'd gotten in some scraps before, mostly jumping at any opporunity to stand up to kids getting bullied as an excuse to get out some agression. He already has two strikes on his school's baseball team, but it just doesn't make him feel better like it used to, so he doesn't really care.
It finally reaches a breaking point when some kid with an edgy sense of humor starts making fun of Zay. He doesn't even get a warning, Lucas just loses his shit. The kid ends up in the hospital and Lucas ends up expelled and Waylon ends up with his reputation ruined. So, he punishes Lucas in the only way he knows how to, by dragging his ass to new york. He tells him he got transfered, but he's been spearheading a new york branch of his company for months if not years by now. It's too good of an opportuinity, too much money to turn down, plus he can leave Grace and the rest of the kids in texas (they've been talking about seperating at this point, she's thinking some distance will clear his head). Grace told Waylon that if he takes Lucas away from his friends and his hometown it'll crush him, that he should just let her try to talk to him, maybe let him stay with Pappy Joe for a while. He always does so much better on the ranch than in the city, and Waylon almost agreed. But if there's one thing this man can't do, it's let his son be happy. He doesn't want Lucas to live some slow non glamorous ranch life that he hated growing up, so he takes him to the city.
Pappy Joe had a talk with him before he left, a really serious man to man talk about responsibility, handling anger, knowing when to stop, and learning about what it means to be a man. That talk was one of the most pivotal moments in Lucas's life. He thinks about what Pappy Joe said every day, about the real way to protect the people you love is to make them feel safe around you, about taking responsibility for your actions, about listening to your head and your heart before your impulses. Pappy Joe shaped him into the Lucas we know and love. Knowing that makes it even more meaningful when he does go into Texas mode, because that means he's completely and totally thought it through. He's looked at this from every angle in every way, and has still come to the conclusion that someone needs to get their goddamn ass kicked. The difference between harmless and peaceful is choosing to be peaceful. Lucas Friar is peaceful.
Starting in high school for every trip back to Texas, Lucas is able to make a little bit more peace with Grace, especially when he sees how much all of his little siblings look up to him. He didn't think she cared, he didn't think any of them did. But when he stops by to say hi in person and Grace drops what she's doing and wipes the flour off her hands with a tea towel and pulls him into a tight hug and gasps, "Oh! You've grown so much, let me look at you..." his stomach twists and his throat closes up because that's how Topanga looks at Riley and how Katie looks at Maya and he thinks if for some reason he can't get to Pappy Joe when he has a problem, maybe he can come to Grace. And when all his little brothers and sisters run over to tackle him in hugs and scream about how much they miss him and show him their drawings and legos and the dance they made up, he can only think about Riley and Augie and he realizes Waylon's actions aren't Graces fault or his sibling's fault anymore than they're Lucas's, and maybe his family isn't quite as small and broken as he thought it was.

where did they get that shirt they wear in that one scene? + riley matthews for her shirt in girl meets ski lodge prt 1
she finds it at the goodwill on 7 west 14th street. it’s the one her and maya have been frequenting for weeks, in between their trips to demolition and the forever 21 at the oculus centre.
“look at this!” maya says, all excited and riley turns to look at her. she’s holding a red shirt, a cotton tunic with small white flowers on it. it’s absolutely stunning. “you should get it.” she tells maya, and her best friend shakes her head.
“not for me.” the blonde says with a toothy grin. “for you. it’d be perfect with those cargos you thrifted a couple of weeks ago.”
and it’s true. it would be. but riley is pretty sure the shirt is too small, and with how her shoulders seems to be rounding out more and more every day, she’s not sure how it would look on her.
as if she can read her mind (and maybe she can), maya shakes her head, walking over to riley and pressing the shirt against her chest. “try it on. for me?”
the blonde’s puppy dog eyes are activated and riley bites down on her lip as she adds the shirt to her cart, her fingers stroking the soft cotton.
“okay. i will.”
it’s a testament to how much she loves maya. to wear something she isn’t fully comfortable wearing. that’s everything their friendship is made of, testaments to their love for one another.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
"So huckleberry do you have a date?" I asked turning in my seat in the class room.
"Nah, I'm going to be a cowboy today."
i stand up from my seat. "cowboy!? why a cowboy??"
Allie stands up. "Angel he wants to be one so let him be one" I look at her and say. "Ah! Ranger Rick is going to be a cowboy?! what kind?" I asked looking at him. "Bull rider!"
"Your joking!"
"No Angel i'm not...why can't you be ok with me doing that?" I sit down and say. "nothing"
Allie says as she sits down in front of me. "He'll be ok"
Tumblr media
After class I walk out and Jordan grabs my arm lightly. "Angel" I turn around. "What!?"
"Will you talk to me please?" I stare at him. "I don't know what to even say Jordan...if you want to do this then go for it I won't stop you" I pull my arm away from him and walk away.
"What about your art?" I stop and turn to face him. "What about it?"
"You should try to put it out there Angel...It's amazing" I blink. "Right...thanks" He sighs. "can we stay in touch?"
I nod. "of course Ranger Rick" He laughs. "good Shortstack"
Tumblr media
To now.
Tumblr media
"Allie I have to go...okay talk later bye" I hang up and stand up as my boss walks into my office. "Good morning Mister Hans" He looks around. "were you working last night?"
"um..no I wasn't I had somewhere to be but i-" "Is your job not more important then whatever you had to do last night!?"
I look at my work on my desk. "No sir"
"Good now, you have a meeting at noon....clean up please" He walks out and I groan as I sit down. "do this do that my god"
I look up when I hear someone knock on the door. "Jordan hi" he smiles.
"hey busy tonight?" He walks in and I smile. "I don't think so..why do you ask?' he sits in the chair across my desk. "Thought maybe we could go out...just for dinner nothing like a date"
I nod. "I could use a drink" Jordan frowns. "what's going on?" I shake my head. "Work...my boss is being a bitch about work...hell he was pissed that I took last night off for the rodeo"
Jordan says. "So it's my fault?" "No no Jordan I never said that...it's no ones fault but mine" Jordan nods. "Right...Look if anything is from something I did please tell me" I slowly nod looking at his eyes then his lips damn they look soft.
I smile. "Anyway what time were you thinking for that drink?"
"I was thinking maybe after five..does that work?" I nod looking at him. "Sure" he stands up. "See you then shortstack" I grin at my nickname. "Bye huckleberry!"
I get my work done for the day then I head home to get ready for my drinks...I wouldn't call it a date...he didn't.
I get into this outfit.
Tumblr media
I then put my hair into a bun then I laugh. "No no let it down" I pull my hair tie off and then fix it and I grab my purse and head out to my car.
I walk into the bar and look around and Jordan is at the bar and he looks around so I smile and walk to him. "Hey huckleberry" He turns around and smiles. "hey Blondie beauty"
I smile and sit down. "What happened to shortstack?"
"Your not short anymore" I hear him say. I nod. "Good to hear." He orders a drink for us and I sip on it and say. "Why did you come to see me?"
Tumblr media
"After I saw you at the rodeo...I guess I haven't been able to stop thinking about you" He looks down at the drink in his hand and I bite my lip lightly. "Jordan I never told you this but....I'm seeing someone...it's not a boyfriend but..He's nice to me"
Jordan looks at me and I can see the hurt in his eyes. "Wow..uh..he's a lucky man for sure...The girl he's seeing is a pure gem" he takes a sip. "God what am I doing?"
"Jordan..." he stands up. "I thought we could pick up where we left off ten years ago Angel, I guess I was wrong" he tosses some money on the bar top and says. "Have a good night"
I watch him walk away and I groan and run after him. "Hey! Huckleberry!" He turns around. I walk up to him. 'You suck at being jealous! You suck at being mad at me after ten years of no calls, no texts no nothing! You Fucking suck at being Jordan banks!"
He looks at me in shock and I cross my arms. "What!? did a cat get your dumb tongue?" He lightly grabs my face kissing me. I let my hands fall to my side and he pulls away. "Why would you do that?" He smirks. "I couldn't think of any other way to make you stop" I smirk. "Maybe I should-"
he kisses me again this time with more passion. We pull away and I smile. "If that's the only way to shut me up then do it all the time" Jordan smiles. "yes ma'am"
part 3 will be out as soon as I can write it!

Broken | Girl Meets World
second chapter of this lil' rilaya fic. i said i promised no regular updates lmao
also available on AO3 !!
-
Summary:
First day of school and destiny is not favoring Maya.
-
“Riley, how is it possible that you’re late for your father’s class?”
First day of school was never easy: new teachers, new classmates, new subjects… it was always a tough change for Maya. And as a cherry on top, they were fourteen now, which means that their bodies hated them and hormones were all over the air.
Not. Fun.
What was still fun, even after doing it every year, was messing with Mr. Mathews.
“Oh, you wrote her a note.” Said Maya as she handed him a piece of paper from her pocket.
He looked at it like he always did. “These keep getting better and better, Maya.”
“I really don’t know why you keep receiving them.” She laughs as she and Riley sat down on their chairs.
Maybe the school year was going to be awful, but at least she would have her favorite person next to her at all times.
Knock, knock, knock.
Mr. Mathews frowned confused. “Come in.”
“Excuse me, sir,” a guy Maya had never seen before stepped in. “I believe I’m in your class? Sorry for interrupting.” He handed Mathews some paper. A permission slip of some sort, Maya imagined.
“Lucas Friar. New student?”
“Yes, sir. From Austin, Texas.” That explained the accent.
“Welcome, Mr. Friar. Please take a seat.”
As the eyes of everyone in the classroom followed the newcomer to his seat, Maya’s could only fall on Riley, whose eyes had a new sparkle in them. Curiosity and admiration were written all over them.
Maya did not like it.
“Riley, eyes up here, sweetie.”
“Sorry, dad.”
And it looked like Mr. Mathews didn’t like it either.
The blonde’s brain wouldn’t register anything Mathews said, or any other teacher, for that matter. She could only think about Riley and New Boy right behind her. They were exchanging glances and little smiles and Maya just wanted to break her pencil in half.
Not only that, but Maya did not understand why she was so interested in him. She, and every other girl in their class, kept saying how pretty and gorgeous he was; when really, he wasn’t that big of a deal. He was average cute at most. He was no Greak God, nobody looked like that.
Maya couldn’t understand the appeal.
(Most girls in their class were two times more beautiful than the Texas guy was. At least that’s what Maya thinks.)
“So, what are your thoughts on the new guy?” Farkle immediately started talking as soon as the three of them got a seat in the cafeteria.
“He’s so pretty and kind. And pretty. He’s like a fallen angel!” Riley’s dreamy eyes matched the clouds in her voice.
“You do know fallen angels are demons, right?” That left Riley opened-mouthed, about to defend herself but finding no argument to do so. “But, yes, I agree that he’s very good-looking.” Maya knew Farkle was also staring during class. Just like most people in that classroom.
“I actually don’t see it.” Maya’s eyes were stuck in her food, not wanting to look at her friends’ expressions.
“What?!” Both of them asked. In unison.
“How can you not see it? Are you blind?” Maya knew he was exaggerating, but she threw him a glance anyway.
“No, actually I’m with Farkle on this one. Have you looked at him?” Riley slammed her hands against the table.
“I did. Which is why I don’t understand what’s the big deal about it.”
“Maya,” Riley took her face in between her hands. Maya’s heart skipped a beat. “Peaches, you cannot tell me that he isn’t good-looking.” The magical effect dissipated as soon as Riley redirected her sight towards the Texas kid, who was talking with the baseball team, already making friends with the popular club.
Maya’s bad feeling about him only grew.
“I mean, he’s just average. He’s no ‘angel’, nobody looks like that.”
“Unbelievable.”
It was as if he had thrown a spell over the whole student body. Except for her.

inspired by @flashyysins
Two days after Hawkins was almost split open, Robin saw a woman pacing in the hospital waiting room.
There were plenty of other people as well, sitting or standing or walking the length of the room in a similar pattern, but there was something about the woman that Robin noticed. It wasn't just that she was beautiful, which she was- it's that there was something familiar about her.
She was in blue jeans and an old-school Hawkins High Letterman jacket, light brown hair twisted up in a claw clip. Robin had never met her before, she'd remember that at the very least, but still.
Something about the angle of her nose or the gentle waves of her hair felt like something Robin had seen before, something she'd be able to find in a crowded room or across a street.
But Robin had somewhere to be, so she shook off the odd feeling, and followed the familiar path to Steve's room.
---
"Hey Stevie."
Steve's smile was tired, but he was looking more lively than when he'd passed out in the waiting room the other day, so she'd take it.
"Robbie, you left me hanging yesterday."
She snorted and dropped into one of the chairs by his bed, swinging her legs over the arm rest and cradling the bag she'd brought with her in her lap. "You're the one who fell asleep during visiting hours."
He rolled his eyes, and she happily noted the colour returning to his skin. "You should be exempt from visiting hours, you're like...essential to my recovery or something."
She laughed to hide the way those words curled soft and warm around her heart, eyes stinging until she blinked it away. The dumbass had almost over-worked himself to the point of no recovery. "'Exempt?' Someone's been reading a dictionary- did one of your children leave theirs behind?"
"Oh fuck you-"
They were interrupted by a knock on the door, and Robin was startled to see the woman from the waiting room hovering behind a nurse.
"You have a new visitor Mr Harrington."
Even knee-deep in confused intrigue, Robin couldn't help but dramatically mouth Mr Harrington over her own shoulder, pleased at the face he pulled in retaliation.
And then the door shut, and Steve looked up to find the woman-from-the-waiting room standing at the end of the bed.
Robin saw his brain grind to a halt at the sight of her.
It was silent (well, as much as it could be in a hospital room, what with all the beeping and whirring) as they took each other in, and Robin slowly brought her knees in closer to her chest like it would shield her from the vague awkwardness chewing at her.
And then-
"Fucking hell, Eve." The woman breathed out, white knuckling the bar at the end of his bed.
At the same time, Steve's face scrunched up as he demanded: "What are you doing here?"
"What do you mean 'what am I doing here'? You're in hospital!"
"I thought you were in New York!"
"Yeah and then I got a call from Hawkins General that my little brother was dying in a hospital bed! Thank you for keeping me as your emergency contact, by the way."
"Well-" Steve spluttered and then crossed his arms over his chest, wincing at the pressure on his injuries. "Obviously."
Several things clicked into place like undone locks. Steve had almost been too comfortable about "feminine" topics for as long as she'd been an active member of his life- and even slightly before.
(He'd once run out of Scoops to buy her pads when she'd started her period in the middle of a shift. At the time she'd figured he was just trying really hard to beat the still a douche-bag allegations.)
Then there were the sweaters that he wouldn't confess to the origin of, the jokes he'd make about Robin "not being the only woman in his life" that she'd thought were about Nancy Wheeler, the vehement denial that the rom-com collection in the theatre room were his.
And, while Robin hated to enforce gender stereotypes, he'd always had the kind of mean girl cattiness that was usually only forged in teenaged girls and merely rubbed off on others.
Of course Steve Harrington had a sister.
Now Robin understood why she'd seemed so familiar in the waiting room.
"What happened to you?"
Simultaneously, Robin and Steve shifted uncomfortably, meeting each others eyes and coming up blank on both ends.
Steve's sister swallowed, jaw clenched and lip quivering as she look back and forth between them. She seemed suddenly fragile, like Steve after a nightmare, or right before he'd collapsed in the waiting room after carrying Eddie inside.
Steve cracked first. "Lou-"
"Don't fucking lie to me, Stephen. This is the third time you've ended up in hospital since your senior year."
Steve blinked, startled. "How did you-"
"I'm your sister." She seethed, and Robin could see flickers of Steve with an axe in his hand in the arch of her shoulders. "You might have told the hospital not to call but I still have friends in this town. If that Hargrove asshole wasn't already dead-"
"Lou-"
"Don't-"
"It was a serial killer." Robin blurted, drawing Steve's sisters' attention to her. "I don't now if you heard about it, but someone was going around killing teenagers. It started with Chrissy Cunningham- she was a cheerleader? kind of cute in a preppy sort of way, but, um- she was killed in our friends living room and then he sort of got blamed for it because, I mean, it was pretty sketchy but he didn't do it! I promise, Eddie didn't- anyway, there was this whole witch hunt, and two more people died which just sort of made it worse for Eddie and a group of us were trying to, like, clear his name, you know? Because we knew he didn't do it and we didn't want him to get killed next, but then one of our other friends - this girl, Max, she's a riot - she was being targeted by the real killer so we came up with this...really stupid plan to catch the killer but everything went sort of tits up and Eddie and Steve both got, well-" She waved her hands at the bandage around Steve's throat and the bruising around his wrists from the vines. "And Max, she broke her elbow and her knee when she fell, and I think Dustin twisted his ankle? So now Max and Eddie and Steve are all in hospital and Dustin has these crutches that he doesn't want to use but, I mean, Steve always makes him because it's Steve, and we don't really know if Eddie's okay yet but no one's come to tell us he's not so we're still hopeful-"
"Robin."
Robin shut her mouth, and took a deep breath through her nose. Steve's sister was staring at her in the startled sort of awe that Robin was used to seeing when she got going. She had the lungs of a trumpet player, it wasn't hard for her to talk until she forgot where she'd started.
"You fought a serial killer?" Steve's sister - Lou? - asked, and Robin hysterically felt like she should offer up her seat.
Steve, bless him, only nodded. Lou stared, lips pressed into a thin line and nostrils flared slightly.
And then, quite abruptly, she was straightening her back and stepping around the bed to hold out a hand to Robin. "Louisa Harrington."
Robin blinked, and shook her hand. "Robin Buckley."
Louisa nodded, like that made sense, and smiled the same cupids-bow smile as her brother. "The best friend- it's good to meet the other half of my brothers brain. Clearly the better half, considering you aren't the one in the hospital bed."
Steve made an offended noise, and Robin grinned.

(a very quick and unpolished thing i wrote on the bus home today)
Utena, Anthy, and a conversation about love. Around 500 words.
---
“I loved him,” Utena says. She feels vulnerable admitting it, staring at the ceiling rather than at Anthy curled up at her side. “Not… not in the way he tried to convince me I did. But…” she sighs at the feeling of Anthy's fingers moving gently up and down her arm. “But I did love him.”
Anthy is quiet, and Utena can tell she’s waiting for her to say the next thing, the logical conclusion to this line of thought. It’s the hardest part to admit to herself, let alone to someone else. Let alone to Anthy.
She takes a breath. “Sometimes I feel like I still do.” Anthy exhales against her shoulder.
“Love is,” Anthy starts, then stops. Utena feels her shake her head. “It’s not… enough, on its own. I loved him too. I still do. I think I always will.”
Utena squeezes Anthy’s hand in the dark, and for a while they simply listen to each other breathe. “I’m not sure I even know what love is,” Utena says. “I definitely didn’t, growing up. But I wanted it, more than anything. He knew that. He offered it to me, and he knew I would do anything to keep it.”
“Family,” Anthy whispers, her mouth still pressed against Utena’s shoulder.
“Yeah. Family.”
They’re both quiet for a while, aware of the weight of the conversation. The entirety of what used to be their world, all contained in that single word.
“Do you think…” Utena starts to ask, but hesitates. She doesn’t want to say the words, and doesn't want to hear Anthy’s answer.
“What is it?”
She shakes her head. “Nevermind. It doesn’t matter.”
“Everything matters,” Anthy says simply, but in a tone that tells Utena that she doesn’t have to say if she doesn’t want to.
She sighs. “I just mean, it doesn't change anything. It doesn’t make what he did… better. But I just wonder,” and she has wondered for years now, “I wonder if he loved us too. If any of it was real.”
Anthy wraps an arm Utena’s middle and touches her scar lightly. “He did,” Anthy says, confidently enough that Utena doesn’t question it. “It was as real as anything was in that place. But like I said, love is… It’s not an inherent good.”
“No,” Utena mumbles. “And he hurt us in spite of it.”
Anthy catches Utena’s eye for the first time since the conversation started. “He hurt us because of it, Utena.”
“Oh,” Utena breathes, turning her eyes back to the ceiling. She lets that revelation settle in her chest, but doesn’t know how to feel about it. She was right that it doesn’t make any of it better. She’s not sure whether or not it makes it worse.

The Return: The Christmas List
"Like, would you date someone Jon's age?"
"It would depend on the person." She could not be direct any more than he could be.
Shawn scratched his fingernail across the tile of the kitchen island, unable to look her in the eyes. "What if the person is Jon?"
The Return: Cult Fiction Revisited
The way Jon laid in the hospital bed was same the way he laid after the motorcycle accident. There were wires stuck to his chest coming up through the neck of his hospital gown. An oxygen cannula aided his breathing. The only the casts and bandages were missing.
Jon was as still and lifeless as he was back then.
Saudade: Fishing for Answers
It took Riley a long time before she could give voice to her fears. "That they'll start fighting and being unhappy with each other. I'm afraid they'll end up divorced."
Letting out a slow breath, Maya watched her breath dissipate in the cold air around them. She didn't want to admit that Riley's fear was attaching itself to her, but it was. If the foundations of two of the most solid relationships in existence could be shaken and cracked, what hope did her mom and Shawn have?
The Return: Questions and Answers Part II
"Yeah, I know the job's been bad," Cory admitted. He had been holding back his own concerns for the past several months, not wanting to alarm those close to him if he was wrong. "Listen, I'm only tellin' you this- Topanga would kill me if she knew- but sometimes I create problems at school that force Jon to come down and deal with."
Shawn didn't know whether to laugh or be upset. "Seriously?"
Cory gripped his knees with hands. "Yeah, I mean, nothing major that would cause real problems for anyone. I just make a fuss knowing he won't ignore me."
"You are kinda of hard to ignore when you make a fuss."
Saudade: Preparations
Shawn forced his attention away from the bike; they had to leave for the hospital now. He stood and pulled the key out of his pocket that Audrey had left him. The key was still on the same Pentagon keyring Jon had way back then. He checked the bike over once more to make sure everything was ready to run. That's when he noticed something was missing.
He smiled as he recalled the time he tried to take the bike to Audrey's but couldn't get it started because he overlooked a small but important detail-the key.
The Return: The Keys
"Cor, look around." Shawn gestured to the crowded place they were in. "Who don't you see here?"
Cory looked around suspiciously, then looked back at Shawn, and shrugged. "That blonde lady from the park," he said, repeating how Riley had referred to Miss Tompkins. He drew curious looks from both of the men at the table.
Shawn sniffed. "You're welcome."
Autumn in Philadelphia: Cory and Shawn's Miracle Soap: Tuesday
(the closest I have to infinite is eternal)
An ear-splitting scream shook the Matthews' house early Tuesday morning. Amy grimaced at the eternal shriek as she set a plate full of hot cakes down in the center of the kitchen table.
Birthday Wishes and Valentine Kisses: Accidental Discoveries
Shawn spun around ready to fight. This was an instinctual reaction to being approached from behind. Growing up in the Pink Flamingo Trailer Park taught him that being ready to fight was the only way to avoid being pummeled.
It was good thing he repressed the urge to blindly swing, however. If he had, he would have connected with Brad's stomach.
And he would have been in a lot of trouble.
No clay. Hmm...
Flashbacks: Better Days
While he favored the bikinis worn by the girls on MTV's Beach House, he knew Audrey would not be comfortable in one in public and they were also going to a family theme park for young kids, not the Jersey Shore. Begrudgingly he put the suit back and resumed searching.
At one point he thought he found the one- a pearlescent two-piece. He had to struggle to reach it as it was shoved in the back behind a bunch of one-piece suits with weird ruching and ruffled skirts. He was terribly disappointed when he finally got it into the light.
It wasn't even a bikini; it was an off-white one-piece.
No doubt Audrey would make this boring garment look like haute couture, but Jon couldn't stomach the idea of putting her into something so plain. He shoved it back where he found it and continued to look for something that matched her personality.

Summary:
Maya's in love with Riley and promises herself that nothing will ever come between them. Little did she know that all it would take to put her safe space at risk was a Texas boy and a school project.
-
Maya’s life has always been hard, that isn’t a secret: her dad left, her mom is never home, her home life is as lonely as it can get. Because of that, she has very few favorite things in life, few things she holds close to her heart. But what- who will always be on the top of her list is the pretty brunette she’s glad to call her best friend, ever since she dared to climb up that window now seven years ago. Even if her heart breaks at the thought of that being her title.
She’s felt it ache for a while now: every time Riley is close enough for her to smell her shampoo, every second they’re sitting at the Bay Window and the brunette turns gold with the sun, every moment her skin feels electrified when their bodies meet. It’s not enough, it’s never enough; but it’s all she has- it’s all she can ever dream for. It hurts her every day to be in love with her best friend, but there really is nothing she can do about it.
She can’t risk to lose the one thing that helps her get out of bed in the morning. She can’t lose the one person who sees her, the one person she feels safe with even when everything else feels on fire and smells of ashes.
She’s not the protagonist of some fairytale book with a happily ever after and a true love kiss. Even if she’s just thirteen, the age in which kids tend to dream and hope, she can’t let herself fall for a fantasy. Hope is for suckers; she’s learned that long ago. You hope for things, you get disappointed; so, she’s better off not hoping for something to happen. She would rather have the brunette by her side while her heart aches for more over risking everything in hopes for a fairytale.
If she lost Riley, she’d be lost. She’s certain she’d be lost without her. Whenever she thinks of what comes next, Riley is always by her side. She’ll make sure she’s always by her side.
“Riles?” They’ve been silent for infinite seconds now. The sun is coming through the window and painting Riley’s locks with its golden light. It’s like a dream. Maya doesn’t know how long she’s been staring at it.
“Yes, Peaches?”
“Promise me we’ll always be together?” She’s asked this several times throughout the years, and Riley always answers with the same certainty.
“We will always be together.” She intertwines their fingers and a chill gets through Maya’s spine, making her shiver. She takes a deep breath and smiles.
They’ll always be together, she promises herself. She’ll do anything to keep her close.
