I inoculated my first 10 bags of Uncle Ben's last week (nearly clear syringe) and 20 more today (very dense syringes) in my SAB. I tried four different ways and finally settled on my own approach.

If you stick your syringe in the grain section, you're gonna get rice in the needle, which makes the precise process very unprecise as you have to press hard to shoot the rice out of the needle, which shoots more than what you want out of the syringe.

So I tried injecting through the open corner without inserting the needle into the bag; but the vacuum kept the bag closed, which meant I had to "thread the needle" of the corner and insert it while touching the sides of the bag as the syringe went in. That's not sterile, and I feel like it just kinda ran down the sides of the top of the bag.

So then I made two cuts about half an inch apart in the middle of the top of the bag, pulled the flap to the front, cut it off, opened the bag up, shot the stuff in, and put a piece of tape over the hole. But the vacuum was so strong it just stayed closed, so I tried prying it open kinda like when opening a bag of chips, which just ripped the tape, and I put tape over the rip to seal it up and gave up on that method.

So I finally just alcoholed my gloved fingers right before, cut the corner, inserted two fingers into the bag, spread it to make a hole, shot the spores in, and taped it up. It worked great!

There's no other way to do it. The bag doesn't magically open up once you cut the corner. The vacuum wants to stay a vacuum and keep the two flaps closed. You *have* to insert something and spread the bag open very well so that it stays open while you precisely shoot your desired amount in.

I have no idea how many contaminated bags I'll get, but I'm hoping to have 20/30 usable bags.

It's my first grow, so who knows, but I'll at least get one tub going.

Fun idea I’ve had bouncing around about Remus:

You know how queer/neurodivergent kids have that one teacher that they bond to? You know what I’m talking about- you’ve seen the memes about the gay kid and the English/art teacher bond.

I like to imagine that Remus just has a tiny group of kids who hung out in his classroom to feel safe.

He would leave his door open constantly and during lunch, he would offer to call a house elf for hot chocolate, tea, biscuits or other sweets for the kids. If he noticed one of his kids doesn’t eat lunch, he would quietly pull them to the side and ask what was up.

The kids would talk to him abt literally anything under the sun. Some would even go and ask for help for other classes (quite a few for potions, none of which were slytherins)

He’d have a small bowl of pride pins and flags up for grabs on his desk which his kids occasionally take, always causing him to give a little smile to the kid.

I don’t know. I just image Remus as the designated safe teacher. He’d be the one to notice a kid struggling and offer help or ask what’s wrong. He’d be the one that students go to when they have problems at home, were being bullied or just needed someone to talk to.
