This song is literally about Matthias you cannot change my mind.

Matthias was raised in a hateful environment. He was led to believe that killing innocent people was okay because they're Grisha. Even if they didn't do anything wrong. He was taught to hunt Grisha. And he was a teenager when he joined the Druskelle. Druskelle are hateful people and Matthias was completely blind to it for so long because of how the Druskelle glorified themselves and villifide Grisha.

And then he meets Nina Zenik a Grisha girl that embodies everything Matthias has been taught to hate and yet he can't help but fall in love with her and all her beauty.

In Six of Crows and especially Crooked kingdom we see his inner battle with what he's been conditioned to believe versus his own opinion and his own voice.

"Oh I was raised on little light."

That specific lyric is what gets me. He was raised on hateful and harmful beliefs about Grisha.

To me this is Matthias trying to look at the world through a new lens for Nina and for himself.

No Mourners, No Funerals.

Leigh Bardugo created the 'Grishaverse', a fantasy universe where 'Grisha', a small amount of the population who can control and manipulate the elements exist. This universe was first created for the 'Grisha Trilogy' but was later extended to the ‘Six of Crows’ duology. This duology consists of two books, 'Six of Crows' and 'Crooked Kingdom'. The books follow the story of six misfits, Kaz, Inej, Nina, Wylan, Jesper and Mathias who have to work together to gain certain things for themselves. They are not really heroes, but rather morally grey characters and that is what makes the books interesting.

The first book- 'Six of Crows' revolves around the six main characters meeting each other and forming an alliance to pull off a heist, and along the way becoming closer to each other. While the second book – 'Crooked Kingdom' shows the aftermath of the heist and the group trying to survive. Both the books have changing POVs, so we get an insight on what goes in the minds of all the characters.

One of the main reasons for the popularity of this YA series is its representation. These books have characters of different races, ethnicities and sexualities, and also have a dyslexic character, an overweight character and a character suffering through PTSD. Because of this diverse representation, many readers could relate to the characters.

So, if you like the found family trope, or want to read something with diverse representation or just want to read 6 teenagers planning a heist, this duology is definitely for you.
