HAPPY DREAMING

Humanity has entered an era of Peace and Light which some refer to as The Happy Dream. It is a phase where the ‘illusion’ of separation, which shows up as an infinity of ‘opposites’: dark-light, male-female, good-bad, etc. … come into a relative ‘balance’. Imagine a pendulum sweeping back and forth coming to the mid-point of ‘30’ on a clock … a moment only - but 2,000 years in clock time.

The Happy Dream therefore is ‘still a dream’, a euphoric phase where the opportunity to ‘glimpse’ the Real YOU becomes far more accessible than during the chaotic periods where the influence of opposites swings one way or the other predominately, such as the now ending dysfunctional patriarchy witnessed ‘everywhere’.

This is a ‘wonderful’ SHIFT as part of a 26,000-year repeating cycle, but it is NOT Reality, as said … but a Happy Dream. Embrace the massive changes now occurring, but if you are ‘pulled deeper’, consider asking: “Who am I?” as a ‘priority. What will then be revealed WILL be Real.

Happy Dreams is a novel about a trash picker in the city of Xi’an in China. Written from his point of view the book is a beautiful analogy of life itself filled with witty humor and metaphors with equal amount of bitterness and heartbreak. Despite taking a whole week  to complete this book I can still vouch for how effortless a read it is. Each and every character is described in length and the city of Xi’an might as well be called the protagonist. Jia Pingwa  manages to write a melancholic yet optimistic book where he shows us the world of trash pickers, migrant workers, wage earners and prostitutes and presents them as they are. He doesn’t aim for the reader to pity or question their life nor does he make any hoopla about the fact the book has unusual subjects. Instead he chooses to tell us about the food they eat, their hobbies, habits, sex, lifestyle, quarrels, quick thinking, street smartness, survival instinct, run-in’s with law and order, monetary issues and takes the reader into their world tranquilly. He has no filter and that is what makes this book such a masterpiece. 

It took me unusually long to finish this read however it was totally worth it. There are very few Asian authors that I read when I was a teenager so as a young adult I am thoroughly enjoying reading about countries such as China and the pledge of different classes in society. This book has been inspired by real people as Jia Pingwa writes in the authors notes at the end of the book where he tells us how he came up with the idea for writing this. I think he successfully showed me a part of society that I never paid any heed to. He made me analyse my understanding of life through his characters and the situations they end up in. I picked this book up in a jiffy because I was late to class and this book is exactly like that - it flows through light and intense moments rapidly.

“My head teemed with thoughts: Like, if you had a fishpond with no fish, and no one ever put fry in you, you just had to fill it with water for there to be fish within a couple of years. Where did they come from? And like, how did lice get into clothes? We’d learned about Darwin and evolution from our secondary school textbooks, but how did the fish in the pond and the lice in our clothes evolve so quickly? I couldn’t figure it out. I wanted to get this stuff clear in my head, but I couldn’t. I thought and thought till my head itched, so I stopped thinking. I gave it a good scratch, and a snowstorm of dandruff fell on my shoulders. I shouted to Wufu, because a bird with a red neck and a white tail I’d never seen before had landed in our tree. But Wufu didn’t respond.”

I had the best dream. For the first time in ages. I daresay for the first time since the diagnosis? But I don’t want to get bogged down in that or how messed up it is that my PTSD has only generated weird anxious dreams during what should be peaceful regenerative sleep. Let me tell you how glorious it was! 

I had done something great. Not sure what but it was so great that it was worthy of being celebrated. Jameela Jamil wanted to give me an award but the award she was authorized to give had a cultural angle that did not make it appropriate given that I was the recipient. I was cool with this but S’s friend Anders Holm decided he had to find a way to get me an award and the recognition I deserved. 

So about twenty minutes after telling me I did not qualify for Jameela Jamil’s award, S pulled me to a side. A stage materialized to the right of us. Barack Obama approached me and gave me my medal: a luxurious navy wool knit beanie with a paisley pattern embroidered on it in white. From a far it looked like a winter paisley-print bandana. 

Before I could properly thank Obama, a choir appeared on the stage and sang Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious to me, and it was JOYOUS.
