Hawkeye Theory: Eleanor Bishop is the villain “Trick Shot”, the partner in crime to Jacques Duquesne aka. “Swordsman”

Eleanor Bishop is (a changed up version of) Trick Shot and here’s why.

1.  Trick Shot was one of Hawkeye's first mentors. In the intro of the series we can clearly see Eleanor teaching young Kate about archery, just like Trick Shot taught Clint in the comics. Eleanor was Kate's (Hawkeye's) first mentor.

2. Eleanor's conversation with Armand. At first she tries to gaslight him. Armand calls it out, saying don't try that on *me* (implying she gaslit someone else already, presumably Jacques). Armand won't let it slide so she changes her tactics and tries to end the conversation.

In the conversation with Kate, Armand mentions that he had tried to talk Jacques out of the marriage & sarcastically mentions Kate's "prize of a mother". Jacques and Eleanor's quick engagement: We're they carried away by the romance or is it that perhaps both had something, an asset, the other wanted?

3. The explosion. Right before it happened Kate catches a glimpse of security guards (Bishop security?) rehearsing their plan, preparing for the oncoming explosion. Kazi knows that they've got 90 seconds. Perhaps that's the time frame Eleanor could clear up for them?

Eleanor was upstairs when the explosion happened. She wasn't scared or worried. Her face is the face of someone who knows exactly what’s happening. It's a face of content as everything is going according to plan.

She only got worried when she noticed that Kate wasn't there because she knows that Kate is... well, Kate. If there’s an explosion then that’s most likely where Kate went, instead of leaving the building. She wasn't worried about Jacques as she didn't think he'd be in the basement at the auction. She wasn't puzzled by the dirt on his jacket because she knew exactly where it came from and in her distress she forgot to cover that fact. At that time the only open question for her was: Where's Kate?

Jacques clearly recognized Kate, even disguised as Ronin. When Eleanor asked if he knew where Kate was he couldn't tell her because she wasn't supposed to know that there had been an illegal auction in the basement where he was at. He wants to keep the image of being a 'perfect catch' to get whatever assets he believes the marriage would provide.

4. Eleanor and Jacques evolving relationship. I assume that after the explosion it became clear that both were involved in some illegal activities but also that both of them had similar motives and a vision. They talked it through. Maybe that's why they 'got rid' of Armand.  Eleanor knows that Jacques was at the auction. Jacques is aware that Eleanor knew about the auction and the explosion. There's clearly much more chemistry between them in episode four than there was in episode two. But something else changed as well.

The lighting.

This may be a longer shot but notice the difference. From Kate's perspective the dance between Eleanor and Jacques is light and friendly, an act of admiration and love. But then the perspective changes, the light glowing from behind Eleanor and Jcaques. It's more threatening, illuminating the two who are covering her, leaving Kate in the dark. It’s clear that there’s more going on than Kate knows about.  The first shot is what the couple wants everyone to see and be decieved by. The second shot with the lighting changes shows the truth, two likeminded people who found each other and are now together turning towards a darker side. Swordsman and Trick Shot.

5. Then, of course, there's the obvious part with Eleanor's focus being rather on Clint dropping the case (her case) than just Kate's safety, as she wants him to believe. Followed up by her calling someone (her client, Wilson Fisk?) to inform them about the newly arisen problem.

There have been rumours about Jacques being Maya's uncle, instead of Wilson Fisk. But I believe that he's a middle man, just like Eleanor. They both noticed that hey, they work for the same guy! If Jacques had been Maya’s uncle there wouldn’t have been the need to call him, as he’s already present. Plus notice the tone in Eleanor's voice during the call, the respect and fear in it? Fisk induced, if you ask me.

6. Eleanor's motives. She mentioned that even the most talented heroes like Black Widow will end up dead. Strength and fists won't reduce the risk of being injured or dying. But what does is money. It's having something to offer the bad guys so they leave you alone. It's a trade.

She grew up without much money and when her husband died she was left in charge of his family's legacy and Kate's safety. They were bankrupt when he died. She did what she believed she had to do to make sure she and Kate would survive and thrive on their own.  

I assume that before the attack on New York Eleanor relied to a big extent on her husband to grant her security, given that after he died Kate felt the need to protect her own mother, feeling as though she now needed her help, now that their former guardian was gone.

7. What is it now that Eleanor does? She uses Bishop Security to provide the bad guys (in exchange for money and safety) with opportunities to easier get what they want. She's got all the information to trade, the connections, she can create security leaks to make things easier.

When Armand mentions that her empire was built on lies he refers to her success not stemming from running a succesful security business but rather from the power it grants her. He must have found out and figured that Eleanor had an agenda with Jacques as well, thus the rushed marriage and why he wanted to talk Jacques out of it.

In conclusion: Eleanor Bishop (Trick Shot) and Jacques Duquesne (Swordsman) are now together in the cahoots, living out their low-key villain arc, exploiting and decieving people, aquiring money through unjust means, both presumably working for Wilson Fisk at the moment.

Just like in the comics, Trick Shot was Hawkeye's (though Clint's) first main mentor, teaching him all about archery, together with Swordsman, his partner in crime. They later tried to win Hawkeye over for their ‘side job’, but he wasn't having it. I suppose that's what Kate is going to go through soon, but with her mother and her fiancee.

Predictions for the future of the show: Kate finds out about her mother's and Jacque's connections and has to decide between her mom and doing what she believes to be right. She'll choose the latter one. Eleanor ends up in jail or enstranged with her daughter. After that Clint sees how serious Kate is about the whole Hawkeye thing. That she's capable and can somewhat handle and is willing to loosing people close to her, for the right reasons. He takes Kate, who is now on her own, officially under his wing, training her to be the new Hawkeye.
