You ever just remember Atem is a Pharoah, a king, and with that comes all the burdens of that title

He's bad at expressing his feelings and needs, too focused on protecting and leading his people. He was never given the chance to have his own wants. He can't show weakness. He can't burden others. He won't allow anyone to see him struggling, or in pain, or desperate for affection, or craving comfort. He can't.

And Yugi tries so hard to break through that tough exterior, little by little, working his way into Atem's heart and head until he can read him like a book. Atem struggles to express his wants but Yugi feels them as if they're his own and he's so quick to take care of his king when he needs it. So gentle as he pulls the crown off Atem's head, kisses his brow and rubs his temple to ease his headache, singing to him so sweetly it lulls the Pharaoh into sleep. And Yugi's there when he wakes up, just as gentle as he pulls him into his arms and rubs his shoulders and reminds him how much he loves him
