Basically just star wars, and within that, just The Clone Wars (but in my defense, that is a highly diverse universe). But I daydream around whatever media I'm consuming so if something sticks, I may write it (like Loki).

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Lmao, all five that I've written! But Battle Scars (star wars) and Moribund (loki) are basically tied in first place with each other.

5. Do you respond to comments?

Listen, I get really in my head about it. Like the answer is "yes" but also if it's been too long....then I feel like it's too late (RIP all comments for the 2nd chapter of Battle Scars). But comments are the BEST and I always appreciate it when an author responds to comments that I leave for them.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Ha! Moribund.

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Off Duty?

8. Do you get hate on fics?

No, thank god. I don't know what I'd do.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Not....yet........

10. Do you write crossovers?

No but I have read some especially good ones.

Not that I'm aware of?

Not that I'm aware of? Seems unlikely.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

No, but I think it would be rad. If @mithrandirl ever wanders back to star wars I feel like we could create something great.

14. What’s your all time favorite ship?

Spuffy. The older I get the less I believe in "there's only one perfect person for you" and I'm much less rigid about who I ship characters with. But Spuffy hit me before that time and even in rewatches of the series there is something so deeply intimate in the way Buffy and Spike understand each other, validate their strengths and weaknesses, and complement one another in the best way possible for the lives that they're living.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

I don't have time for your naysaying! I will finish them all if I have to live to be 200 to do it!

16. What are your writing strengths?

Having my characters feel very true to character, I think? And dialogue maybe?

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Dude, I am so fucking slow at writing. My quality/speed relationship is a steep negative line.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

Does it strengthen the writing, the story, or the characters?

19. First fandom you wrote for?

Before I realized that formulating entire stories in your head, and revisiting them over and over again until they're memorized, even if you never actually write it down still counts as writing (to me), Artemis Fowl.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

That's been posted? Battle Scars, but let the record show that Wa(te)r Born holds a very special place in my heart. I am deeply proud of the writing that I did there despite it being only 500 words.

But ultimately, my unpublished foxiyo fic is where my heart lies. Hopefully someday soon I'll start posting.

The Fowl family is stuck on a deserted island for ten days without Butler family or fairy assistance, how do they handle it?

Artemis and Tim spend the first three hours in a mix between scheming and panic. Artemis eventually walks off on his own to continue attempting to find a solution- Tim spends another hour stewing in anxiety before he gets up to find Angeline and help her.

Angeline works off of common sense (‘food, water, shelter’) to attempt to organize means of survival, but having a vague picture of what to do and actually doing it are two separate matters. She is refusing to call this sudden stranding anything but a ‘vacation’ and will not take anything else for an answer.

Beckett manages to catch a fish with his bare hands in the first ten minutes of being on the island, so as long as they can manage to keep him from running off to where they can’t find him, they probably won’t starve. He keeps talking to the wildlife- they are all unsure as to what he’s talking about, and individually wonder if he’s gossiping about them.

Myles is extremely unhappy with the situation- it’s hot, it’s sandy, and there’s no technology in sight. His glasses aren’t even working, beyond granting him normal sight. Blames Artemis, but is distracted from his upset with the situation by Beckett wanting to play tag, which helps calm him down. Tim asks for the twins’ help in building shelter instead of Artemis and Myles is happy that he’s doing something that Artemis ‘can’t’- that doesn’t stop him from listening when Artemis tells a story around the fire that night to hopefully get him and his brother to sleep.

Foxworth has many practical survival skills, but very few of them translate to desert island survival- regardless, he’s… trying. He and Tim are the ones attempting to explore the island for resources- they remember some of what their Butler taught them. Continuously encourages the group even as he’s dying inside (he, much like Myles, is not enjoying the ‘hot, sandy’ aspect of their environment- he’d much rather be in his clean, air-conditioned home, thank you very much).

It is that time of year once again! Happy International Fanworks Day! This year has been even busier than the last one so just another reclist (that might be late) from me this year. Hopefully next year will be different.

This year’s theme is when fandoms collide – my bread and butter, really. So, without further ado, this year’s IFD reclist:

Alex Rider (AR) × Rise of the Guardians (RotG)

Kindling Wonder by control of chaos Beautiful and incredibly uplifting. In most fics, Alex is quite jaded and hardened by the things he’s seen from being forced to grow up too quickly but this fic reminds us he can still be a child – he can still have hope and wonder, remember the good times, dream and have fun. Despite everything he’s been through, he can be the kid he should’ve been allowed to be.

Rise of the Guardians (RotG) × Avengers

Clashing with Legends by routavaurio The two source media are blended very well despite being rather different in tone. There’s humour but also seriousness, the characters feel true to themselves and the fight scenes are easy to follow. Even with a pretty large ensemble cast, everyone got their time to shine. There’s also a sequel, Mythical Intervention, and both fics are now also on AO3!

Winter Gods by avearia This starts off funny and lighthearted, gradually layering in plot and as of the latest chapter (20/02/2019), hints of horror building up to quite the cliffhanger. The worldbuilding is intriguing, with explanation for the discrepancies between Norse mythology and the MCU’s Asgardians as well as incorporating backstory from the GoC books.

Alex Rider (AR) × Harry Potter (HP)

Harry Potter and the Teenage Spy by Rod I don’t know how to describe this other than it is quite literally, when fandoms collide. See what I did there? …Sorry. The first instalment is set during ‘Deathly Hallows’: what if Alex (and Tom and Sabina) was/were in the café the Golden Trio escaped to after the wedding? After this, well, you know how Alex is – can’t leave anything alone, has to see things through no matter what, casually popping in to fuck shit up – no, really, this series is literally just Alex inserting his sassy self into Deathly Hallows. 😅

Of Wands and Stun Darts (And All the Things in Between) by tomaetotomahtoe This series is so sweet and Harry and Alex’s relationship is incredibly tender. The parallels are drawn between them in such a way that highlights the similarities in their personalities without making them carbon copies of each other. They’re so soft with each other – they’re also mutually pining away for each other 🤭. You’ll be giggling over these adorably silly boys.

Miraculous Ladybug (ML) × Avengers

What the Cat Dragged In by Kryal Tbh, I don’t really know what to say for this one other than it’s just… good. The way the world of Miraculous is viewed through the lens of an outside perspective is simply brilliant and the worldbuilding beyond what we see in canon is very clever. Adrien trying to figure out the physics behind the miraculous is just *chef’s kiss*. These two media were skilfully integrated and the characterisation is on point. Lastly, the tags – ‘the Avengers are not immune to cute’, they certainly aren’t! 😂😂😂

Undertale (UT) × Harry Potter (HP)

Under the Veil by poplasia I didn’t even know I needed this friendship until I read it. Sirius and Sans get on like a house on fire, the mechanics behind the magic are cleverly devised, the banter is hilarious and I can’t forget the puns.

Alex Rider (AR) × Artemis Fowl (AF)

Dead Man’s Party by thealphaaxolotl Post-canon strangers to friends to lovers!Alexmis featuring ‘oh my god they were roommates’, with your standard mutual pining as well as lashings of tension and angst.

Fairy Roses by crowprincess14 A short tearjerker as everyone deserves a little tragedy as a treat. It’s not specifically tagged as Alexmis but it’s definitely inferable. There are references to a canonical (but technically temporary) character death if you don’t read that. If you need comfort after this, there is a companion fic written by alexmis with a happy ending.

Alex Rider (AR) × Avengers

MI(6 Degrees of Separation) by mobilisinmobili Imo, anything written by Mobi is great. The source media go really well together and the characterisation feels natural. As always the worldbuilding is very well done, leaving a vivid impression of the gritty underworld espionage and crime both belong to.

Miraculous Ladybug (ML) × Undertale (UT)

Miraculous Tale by awkwardnarturtle This better fits the definition of a fusion than a crossover, honestly. The ML characters are effectively transposed into the world of Undertale without just feeling like an expy and everything comes together so well. Marinette and Chat’s relationship is delightful to read while the little hints of mystery here and there evoke that nostalgic eagerness to discover the game’s secrets.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica (PMMM) × Avengers

Incursio by Mr. Omelette The worldbuilding on the PMMM side has definitely influenced my own headcanons and the characterisation is rather fitting. Also, a family can be one American supersoldier displaced through time and two magical girls displaced across space.

Assassination Classroom (AssClass) × Boku no Hero Academia (BNHA)

Open Doors by NerdofSpades Another fusion for the list! This series masterfully blends the two universes together and Izuku’s character development takes an interesting turn as he is irrevocably shaped by the assassination classroom for the rest of his life.

some of my best friends were doing this thing & said they’d like to see me do the thing, so i am here, doing the thing on the only really active fandom sideblog i have!

fandoms: uh, i think the most notable ones have been harry potter, it (yes, the clown movies), good omens, hsm, and... gossip girl. voila. the first fanfic i ever wrote was an artemis fowl fanfic though. i was like, 12. fandoms i am GOING to get into (hopefully) include the witcher, which im watching for the first time right now, and skulduggery pleasant, which has been recced to me over the years too many times for me to NOT read it.

most popular multi-chapter fic: my hsm fic “boyfriendly” for SURE. i always feel sorry about the people who read that one and go “oh got to check out the rest of this dude’s works” and get hit in the face by my triple digit gg fic count, while the number of hsm fics i have up is... 9. whoops.

favorite story you’ve written so far: listen, all my stories are my babies.... but that said...  the lights that stop me (turn to stone), i think? - more commonly referred to by me as “the blennyfic”. i didn’t even ship blair/jenny at the time, but writing this fic changed that for me. i wanted to write an authentic, honest, SORTED post-canon jenny humphrey, and this story just... ended up going in a certain direction organically, and i just followed it, so that’s something special about it. it was also, at the time of writing, one of the longest commitments i had made in the sense of like - i hadn’t worked as hard or consistently at a single piece of writing in years.  so the fact that i still could.... idk. it’ll always be special to me. 

fic you were nervous to post: hmmm. hard to answer this, i think i’m going to go with it’s not the end (it’s an uncomfortable pause) mostly because i’d spoken about this fic with so many people and shared snippets and blogged about it and there was this quiet thing inside me of like, “what if it does not live up to the hype!” but everyone left really sweet comments on there, and it was validating and set that fear to rest. my partner also read over the whole thing once and said it worked well, and my partner is like. the ONE person who gives me the most blatantly honest, sometimes even harsh, concrit on my writing, so that was validating, too. 

how do you choose your titles: depends on the fic! sometimes, like with “you set my soul alight” it just.. falls into place - in that case, the title is a reference to the song the fic occurs around. sometimes it’s just lyrics or siken quotes. sometimes, like with “as vanilla as a dominatrix” it’s just me offering commentary on what the fic will contain, wink wonk. 

do you outline: for longfic, yes! i ALWAYS forget the details. which isn’t a big deal if i am writing a simple oneshot that i can finish within a week, but the moment something gets bigger and becomes a long term project, i try to outline. let it be known i don’t always succeed. but i DO try.

complete:  not sure what this is asking tbh. 

do you accept prompts: i did for a bit and then the executive dysfuntion hit and i now i am scared to go back, haha. RIP, me. 

upcoming story you’re most excited to write about: already planned the next installment of the nonbinary dan series. also a s4 au that REALLY looks at nate’s parents’ divorce (& involves danhugs for sure.) also the serenessate fic that i am 75% done with but haven’t finished writing yet (whoops.) i am also HOPING to get started writing a blairnessa au.... let’s see how that goes.

stories you’re most excited to read:  whenever part 2 of @mezzoklutz‘s fic “if the choice were mine to make” drops... i will also drop...  catch me fainting like a victorian maiden in an ill-fitting corset. it’s going to be so good!

Definitely!! I love discussing my works and any feedback people take the time to leave. I’m always overjoyed when I see the care people take to leave a note and I want to make sure they know that I really appreciate that they cared enough to say anything.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending?

It’s difficult to say because I’ve done a few more openended stories that had bleaker outlooks but without taking into the canonical happenings of season five of Gotham then I suppose the worst one would be Mockery of a Friend.

What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending?

Bleeding Love is probably the happiest. The angst in it isn’t due to conflict between the characters s much as a characters conflict amongst themselves which allowed for a sweeter resolution not tainted by past betrayal or layers of hurt leading to that point.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest crossover you’ve ever written?

I have written a few crossovers and have a few more in mind if I write them down but currently the craziest one I have is likely Residential Hazard. Artemis Fowl meets Resident Evil Seven and nobody has a fun time.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Thankfully not. Everyone who drops by has been super kind and amazing.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Funnily enough my first two stories did include smut but I found that I really didn’t like writing it and I had to force myself to create the scenes in them so I no longer write them because I just find it to be a struggle that I don’t have to put myself through if I don’t want to.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not to my knowledge and hopefully it’ll never happen.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

No I haven’t but I would be honored if anyone ever decided they would like to.

Have you ever co-written a story before?

Not currently but I am interested in doing so and open to the idea.

What’s your all time favorite ship?

This is a difficult question because my all time favorite ship only lasts until I move onto a different source of media then it changes to whoever I latch onto for that work. I will say that my all time favorite type of ship is friends to lovers like Ethan and Benny from MBAV. I think it’s really sweet when they go from besties that already kind of seem like they’re in a relationship to oh yeah, we pretty much already date might as well make it official.

What’s a WIP that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will?

My WIP is actually a series. I started a Gotham College AU where Edward met Oswald but it was a year or two ago and I don’t think I’m ever actually going to finish it. I started it with no idea of where to even go with it and I have no clue on what would even happen next.

What are your writing strengths?

I think my strengths lie in creating a plot and a storyline to follow. As is, I typically have the story planned out in my head before I write it down on paper. That way I won’t be tempted to abandon it or give up.

What are your writing weaknesses?

Rushing my ending is definitely a problem I suffer from. Once I get near the end I just want to have the story written down and be done with that. I have to take extra care to try and make sure I don’t just throw something together in some form of conclusion and call it done. There have been a couple where that’s also definitely what I did and I’m not sure if it’s noticeable or not when some reads it.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Mad respect to the people who are willing to do that but it makes me too nervous to try. I only know one language and I don’t want to butcher a different one by trying and then it end up being a horrible mess so I only stick to English.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

HunterxHunter was the first fandom I wrote for.

What’s your favorite fic you’ve written?

That is a tough question. There are certainly some stories that I like better than others but to try and pick a favorite is a monstrous task. At the end of the day though I suppose my favorite is The End of the Line. It just flowed when I tried to write it and I thought it was a neat idea. It also was how I meet @weeinterpreter and that is certainly something I’m glad is happened.

7/23 Book Deals

Hello, everyone, I hope your week is going well! It’s been a crazier week than I expected and I’ve once again sort of fallen behind on anything non-school/work-related, but hey, this is my last week of the summer semester (my final is due Monday and then I’m done!) and then I have about two-three weeks off before fall starts, so I’m feeling like hopefully I can get more time to devote to Tumblr, the blog, etc... SO anyway--I am once again back to share some books that are on sale! And if you’re one of the people that have asked me about posting physical books on sale, there actually are some included today! They’re mostly YA, though, so apologies if that’s not your thing, they are just the only ones I saw this morning.  If you haven’t read Senlin Ascends, do it! It’s the quirkiest and most delightful and imaginative fantasy and it’s just so great. We Have Always Lived in the Castle, The Hunger, To Kill a Kingdom, and The Harp of Kings are also some great ones I can personally recommend. Nickname: when I was younger my Granny called me Randi Rose and my dad used to call me Beaker or Midget (as I was taller than him). Now it’s Indy or Rose
