okay I've given up I'm gonna rant about the blue beetle movie because OH MY GOD

I wanna watch it again but I don't wanna go back to the theater I just wanna buy it already so I can watch it over and over and over

IT WAS SO GOOD

spoilers ofc so be prepared (also this is gonna be really long)

my one complaint. is khaji having a feminine robot voice. because I'm used to young justice where they were just a slightly more murderous sounding jaime which I think is perfect. idk it just feels too much like a marvel movie with the female robot suit. IT WAS BETTER THAN A MARVEL MOVIE THOUGH HAHAHAHA-

(for the record I usually say they/them for khaji bc they are a bug robot thing I don't think they understand or care about human gender but I'm stuck between that and that one venom post where they say venom uses he/him sometimes to match eddie's gender BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE KHAJI WOULD DO THAT 💀💀)

anyway I loved the movie soooooooo much and I love boostle being gay (and wasn't prepared for ted having a wife) so I was worried that ted had a daughter but she was AWESOME I LOVE HER SO MUCH

I especially love how nice she was???? her only surviving family member is a complete jerk and it never rubbed off on her, no matter how done with it she was and all that

I have a family member who, like vIcKy, is just mean to everyone for no reason (okay victoria kinda had a reason I'll get to all that later) and if I'm around her for too long I start wanting to match her energy. like yell back. I'M A HORRIBLE PERSON? LOOK WHO'S TALKING! that kinda stuff. but JENNY DOESN'T DO THAT I mean she still stands her ground and all that BUT she never sinks to victoria's level and that's amazing.

anyway on victoria's reasoning yeah I get it, it totally sucks that you helped create the company and it never got passed down to you, and I'm not trying to invalidate that in any way, I'm just saying, think about it from a different perspective. she could've been a psycho from the beginning. creating weapons will probably make you feel horrible and depressed because you're killing people! I just think we don't know if she cracked because of that and that's when she started seeing people as expendable, or if she was born like that, or if she became like that because of the sexism! I was just thinking about it and I feel like there's a possibility that their grandpa thought she was being a little too aggressive or something and that's why he gave the company to ted. of course, I'm not saying that's what happened, just that that's an interesting thought I had.

NEXT this is dumb but I'm too bi for that movie I saw the main couple and went IVHVAJBKSBEJV THEY'RE BOTH SO PRETTY WHAT 😭😭😭 (well it was more like I went yeah the guy who plays jaime (I'm sorry idk any actors) is pretty and then jenny came on and I just. oh no. then they flirted and I was like NO WHAT-

okay I love the family relationships in this movie because they're all so different. I mean you have jenny and her mom who she didn't really know (because she died), then her dad being distant, then her and her aunt constantly hating each other but being too scared to do anything about it. of course they didn't wanna kill each other because ✨lawsuits✨ but they wanted to get rid of each other because victoria was doing horrible things and jenny was getting in her way. then you have jaime's family which is a disaster in the best way possible. I love how we didn't see them that much but could still tell exactly what was going on there. you get that they're all super close (you even get that there's no privacy💀) and they're all like best friends. I feel like his mom should've gotten a bit more characterization, but whatever. I mean her husband died?? and we barely see her???? idk. I just like how drastically different it is from the kords like I think it's cool.

I realized after the movie that. his grandma never saw him transform the first time. and she probably saw the hole in the roof and, knowing her, did not care. then when he comes back they saw khaji attached to him and she was probably filled in, but. we never saw her reaction. I think it was a good decision not to show it, because she'd probably react in some way that mentioned her fighting people in the past and all that.

okay this is another cursed thought but what happened to jenny's motorcycle at the end? she drove it over but then jaime flew her away. did she leave it there and just make him pick her up later to get it? did he go back and fly it to her?? motorcycles are heavy man I don't think that would be fun. did he drive it to her???? did he just leave it there??????? did he fly her everywhere after that??????????? people will guess your secret identity man. also did milagro steal it because that is totally a milagro thing to do-

OH YEAH let's talk about how they all hated jenny when jaime transformed because as funny as that was. guys. she literally told him not to open it. (honestly I feel like it's an insult to khaji's intelligence that they thought they couldn't get out of a fast food box but that's just me.) and I totally get that they hated her because she was a kord and victoria was being horrible but like THEY JUSTIFIED IT AS "YOU DID THIS TO HIM" AND I FEEL LIKE OUT OF EVERY COMPLAINT THEY HAVE WITH HER THAT'S THE WORST ONE TO USE. SHE KINDA GOT JAIME AND MILAGRO FIRED AS WELL although that's also because milagro was breaking rules and jaime's just too good of a person to not yell at victoria. WAIT WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT SHE SAID "PROTECT IT WITH YOUR LIFE" KNOWING FULL WELL HE COULD ACTUALLY DIE THAT'S A GOOD COMPLAINT but like we can excuse that bc we love her here

okay so yes the scene where he talked to his dead dad was fine and all like I like it but. PLEASE. THE CGI WAS SO BAD IN THAT ONE PART. like the rest of the movie was fine BUT SERIOUSLY COME ON GUYS but in other news I love that scene because anything that has khaji just. vibing. is the best. and then having jaime accept them and stuff.

I just realized this movie could totally be a queer metaphor because of the whole acceptance theme?? I mean it's not like THE QUEER METAPHOR MOVIE EVER it's more like hey self acceptance. I mean you have to come out to yourself before you come out to others so idk that's just random

anything that has khaji da and jaime being best friends is automatically amazing. so my favorite arc in young justice is the reach arc (because I'm a sucker for possession and it was just totally well done) and my absolute favorite part of the arc + favorite blue beetle moment + possibly favorite part of the whole show??? is when khaji says the "then you haven't learned anything from our time together" line (that jaime says like an episode or so before I think) and every time I rewatch that I'm just like 😭😭😭😭😭 because they're besties your honor (or in love idk that ship isn't my first choice but I don't have a problem with it) and it's so so so good

I was so worried the movie was gonna be bad because I've only seen one recent dc movie (okay it was half of one) and I'm going to be honest I was not engaged at all I was kinda bored (I don't wanna say what movie it was because it's a very very hot take) and I was like oh no what if this movie does it too. nope. I also was really really hoping that they'd actually be like yeah the scarab's name is khaji da AND THEY DID I WAS SO HAPPY

oh my god I was looking at the cast and they listed victoria's assistant scientist guy as dr. sanchez. NOW I'M NOT THE SMARTEST BUT I'M PRETTY SURE THAT'S NOT HIS NAME- WASN'T THAT A WHOLE PLOT POINT 😭😭😭

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

My School President (Fri YT) 7 of 12 - Tinn flirting using a periodic table is such a simp. I can’t with this boy. This ep made me laugh so flipping hard. Who let my BL be this wholesome and funny? GMMTV you tricksters, you. I’m sorry to say that even the catfishing part made me laugh. What a wonderful show.

Never Let Me Go (Tues YT) 6 of 12 - I loved the part where Pawin speaks multiple languages: English Thai, and Mandarin. Pawin is good! Lovely diction. I like the discussion over The Kiss and I liked how clear N is about who he is and what he wants. P is the opposite, doesn’t really know what he wants, and wouldn’t know how to express himself even if he did. Yet they are still somehow sweet with each other. Pond is so cute when he smiles.

Between Us (Sun iQIYI) 10 of 12 - I gotta say that this level of miscommunication at this point in the drama is merely ep 11 bullshit manipulation. And it is annoying. Even though i know the story has no other vehicle to drive crisis at this point in the show, I’m not happy about it. Dare I say this BL is a touch disappointing? Well, if I don’t say it, who will? WATCH ALONG HERE.

609 Bedtime Story (Fri WeTV) 9 of 11 - OhmFluke are always good, but because of the cheating thread I find it really hard to support this couple. I liked the “who done it” twist. I did see it coming, but I watch too much TV. I love GamesVee but Vee’s hair is truly terrible.

Cutie Pie 2 You (special) 3 of 4 - Disastrous sun glasses, Zee. TutorYim did an awesome job on their sexitimes. I admit to being worried, I was a little scared they couldn’t carry physical intimacy off (holding down 3 series this year). But they did good job. Although, Nuer, if your boy is that twitchy and ticklish? Strap him down and bite. Hard. Presumably he’s not called Syn for nothing.

I Will Knock You (Fri Gaga) 10 of 12 - Just too much blushing maiden for me to stand. And Noey’s odd blinking thing? What is with that?

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

The New Employee (Korea Weds Viki) 5 of 8 - Backstory of the pen is explained, and daddy forces a conversation about it, which I LOVE. I thought his first reaction was a bit harsh, but I’m on his side. Get over your college crush, baby. Pay attention to the guy that’s in front of you. Also cat fucking things up more = classic. The guy walking by in the street who called them “cute” for a hug is my hero. I love this show so much.

HIStory 5: Love in the Future (Taiwan Weds Viki) 4 of 10 (or 7&8 of 20) - Rich boy getting jelly. Jonny getting savvy. Boys holding hands and falling asleep together after an earthquake is cute. Office sides = best couple on air right now. I love how Vincent just casually cuts up his food and gives it to his baby boy. Tony remains evil and manipulative but hot, I shall call him: Pouty McHotterton

Candy Color Paradox AKA Ameiro Paradox (Japan Fri Gaga) 5 of 8 - I think they made a mistake of putting Izuka Kenta into this one. He’s so good everyone else‘s performances look weak by comparison.

Individual Circumstances (Korea Thurs Viki) 8 eps - A reunion romance between a movie director who was once promising and a writer who disappeared due to past wounds. Stars JunQ (main rapper of 2nd gen group MYNAME) and Han Jung Wan (Mr International Korea winner). I like this more than I thought I would (reunion romances are not my thing) mostly because of the bratty director character. Using a guitar to torture someone is entirely appropriate, in my book/BL world it happens all the damn time. It’s an interesting promise, I do want to know what happened in the past. The bike is silly.

It’s Airing But I’m Not Watching It

GMMTV’s Midnight series - first segment has begun bit it’s not the EarthMix messy gays. I’m so not interested in messy hets, so I’m waiting until they grace my screen. Moonlight Chicken (Weds YT) 1 of 8 eventually.

Dave Lizewski x Reader

Request by @butterflyangelsworld2002: Hey! Thank you for my story request! The tutor fanfic was actually awesome! I wanted to make my request more specific as you mentioned before posting the story! I wanted to make the story about Valerie Hazelwood being the new girl at school, sits nexts to Dave Lizewski in one of her classes and that's where the love sparks come in place where they become friends into lovers while seeing each other. I dont know if it's too late to put in that request but that's my idea.

Warnings: Innocent Flirting, maybe just a little cursing, a tiny hint at drugs

A/N: Just so you know, Dave isn't Kickass in this. He does still get jumped, and the rumor of him being gay still happens.

Usually, when you see a beautiful blonde-haired girl, you usually aren’t quick to assume that she likes nerds. You would normally think she’d go for a guy who likes sports and manly things. But that was the complete opposite of what Valerie Hazelwood wanted.

Valerie is a beautiful 17-year-old girl with blonde hair, mesmerizing blue eyes, full round lips, and high cheekbones. Growing up, many compared her to Barbie. But she wasn’t Barbie. She wasn’t the stereotypical popular blonde girl. Sure she had many friends but were they really her friends if they knew nothing about her. Her “friends” at her old school would try and hook her up with other popular kids, but Valerie found no interest in them.

Now, Valerie wasn’t dumb, but she also wasn’t the brightest. Her father had hired a boy named Xavier Washington, who was a nerd, and that was when she found what type of person she clicked with. Xavier would talk for hours about Star Wars, superheroes, and some video game that had just been released, and Valerie would just listen, fascinated by the sound of his voice and how excited these topics made him feel. It was their 3rd tutoring session, right before a test, where Valerie expressed her interest in his interests. Xavier thought she was trying to get him to help her cheat on her test, and wasn’t for it. He never spoke to her in the halls, and it made her sad that he would just assume like that. Valerie’s parents saw that she was no longer the happy, cheerful girl that they had raised.

Valerie transferred to Millard Fillmore High School, all the way on the other side of town, where she would have a completely new start. She was happy when she heard the news. No one knew her. No one to judge her. Somewhere where she was an equal.

Valerie stood on the steps, outside the school, taking a deep breath before entering the massive building. She asked a random kid for instructions to the front office where she met the principal, got her schedule from the lady at the front desk, and made her first friend. Her first friend was a girl named Katie Deauxma, who was also her guide. Katie was a brunette with blue eyes and a beautiful smile. Katie showed her the library, the computer lab, where her classes were, and the cafeteria all before the "5 til school starts" bell. Katie was nice, and Valerie was sure that she was a true friend.

Just in case Valerie forgot, Katie led her to her first period. "I'll meet you outside your class to help you to second period, okay?" Katie tells the girl. Valerie nods and smiles before walking into class. She walked into her first class, chemistry. Students walked in and sat at their designated lab tables. The teacher was nowhere to be found, so Valerie awkwardly stood by the door, waiting.

Three boys entered the class. The boy in the front looked uncomfortable, while the other two boys behind him were laughing at him. Valerie had to admit that they were all cute, granted, they all looked like nerds. The boy in the front had silky brown curls and circular glasses. One of the boys behind him also had glasses, but his glasses were more rectangular. The third boy had curls that were just as curly as the boy in front, but a lighter shade of brown. "I can't believe you've been keeping this secret from us!" the boy with the lighter brown curls said pretty loudly.

"Todd, I already told you that I'm not gay," The curly-haired boy replied annoyingly. They walk past Valerie, not even noticing her. She continues to watch the interaction. "You're just in denial, Dave. It's okay, we support you and your choice to date guys," The other boy says. The boy who I guess is Dave rolls his eyes and says, "sure, Marty." They sit down at their assigned tables, right as the bell rings.

The teacher walks in, noticing the girl standing by the door. "Oh, you scared me there. You must be our new student," the teacher says. She grabs her clipboard and says, "Valerie, is it?" Valerie nods, earning a smile from her teacher. "Well, it's nice to meet you, Valerie. I'm Mrs. Evans, your new chemistry teacher. I think I'm going to sit you next to Dave. Dave, raise your hand!" She calls out.

The boy with dark brown curls and circular glasses looks up. Noticing what Mrs. Evans had asked of him, he complies, raising his hand. "That is Dave, your new lab partner. He'll catch you up on this week's notes. Now, go have a seat."

Valerie complied, walking toward the seat next to Dave. She sits down in her seat, placing her bag next to her foot. Valerie looks at Dave to see him looking back at her with a shy smile. She gives him a smile back, and he looks away, embarrassed. Even though he turned away from Valerie, she couldn't help but notice Dave's beautifully long eyelashes. She wanted to see them once more, so she decided to get his attention. "So, Mrs. Evans says you can help catch me up with this week's note," she says, pulling out her notebook.

Dave looks back at her, and Valerie stares into his steel-blue eyes lovingly. Dave nervously goes into his backpack, pulling out his notebook. "Um-yeah-uh-sure. Yeah, you can borrow my notes," He says, handing over his notes. Valerie doesn't respond. "Uhh- Valerie?" Dave says, getting Valerie's attention. She shakes her head, bringing her focus back to the notes. Her hands start to shake as she slowly grabs onto Dave's notebook, their fingers slightly touching.

"Thanks!" She says, turning her head away from the curly-haired boy. She spends the rest of class collecting notes from Dave and Mrs. Evans.

After class, Valerie quietly hands back Dave's notebook and makes her way out of the classroom. Dave notices and calls out to her. "Valerie!" Valerie turns at the call of her name, seeing Dave. "Hey, I-we- me and my friends were wondering if you wanted to join us at the comic shop, after school."

Valerie can feel the air leave her lungs as she watches Dave look at her with a hopeful look. "Um." She looks behind him to see the two boys from earlier. She's reminded of the conversation he was having with his friends earlier. "Is her really gay?" Valerie thought to herself. Her face grew sad, but she responds with, "Uh- Sure."

Dave smiles, "Okay, so I'll see you after school then."

"Okay."

Dave, with the same smile on his face, leaves the classroom. His friends follow him out, but not without Valeri receiving a wink from Todd. She blushes. At least she knew that if Dave didn't like her, there were plenty of cute nerds here.

When she knew Dave and his friends were gone, Valerie left the chemistry classroom. Valerie forgot about what Katie told her earlier and was spooked when Katie was right in her face as she exited the room. She jumped at the sight of the brunette in front of her. "You know Dave Lizewski?" Katie asked right away. We started our walk to my next class.

"Not really, but he is my lab partner, and he invited me to a comic shop later. Why?"

"He's the talk of the school... Well, besides you. I heard from some of my friends that he was gay," She said cautiously.

"How do you know this?"

"Dave's friend, Todd I believe, said that Dave was jumped. And when he arrived at the hospital, he wasn't wearing any clothes. Everyone in school believes Dave was jumped while doing some suspicious activities. I think the "gay" rumor is better than the "drug dealer" or "drug addict" rumors."

Valerie was confused. So, everyone believes Dave is gay based off of a rumor? "Did Dave ever accept these rumors?"

"No, but it's okay if he wants to stay closeted."

Valerie really had to think about all that was said in the past hour. She wondered if she truly had a shot with one of the cutest nerds she's ever seen. Dave had looked fine to her. He didn't look like he had been jumped. She couldn't help but wonder if this event occurred a while before her arrival and if this was just some old news. But the way his friends talked to him, she wondered if maybe he had just recovered from what happened.

And that was how the rest of her day went.

Dave, Todd, and Marty all waited outside for their new friend. It was weird for the boys. Girls never really found anything they did interesting. So when Valerie agreed to go to a comic shop with the three of them, they were ecstatic. Anytime Todd or Marty talked about Valerie, Dave would stay quiet to not bring attention to his beet-red face, but his friends knew. The rest of Dave’s day was full of his friends rubbing his newfound crush in his face.

When Valerie walked out of school with Katie, Dave's torture had just gotten worse. "Oooh, Dave!" Marty called out in a sing-song voice. Dave looked to where Marty and Todd were watching to see both of his crushes walking out together, and he knew that it would only be a matter of time before his friends started cracking jokes about it.

Dave heard laughing right next to him. “Dave must have a massive boner right now, don’t you, Dave?” Todd chuckled. Dave rolled his eyes and continued to watch the two girls socialize with each other. He watched as their heads slightly rolled back with laughter as they spoke about whatever they were speaking about.

“Hey Dave, you okay there?” Dave didn’t know who had just spoken, but it did bring him out of his trance. He turned towards his friends and saw the smirks that lay on their faces. Marty scoffed and said, “Damn, you’re hooked!”

Dave was going to say something but was cut off by Valerie walking toward them. “Hey fellas! How’s it going?” She said with a bright smile.

“We’re doin’ okay, beautiful. How about yourself?” Todd asked the girl. The girl blushed at the compliment.

“It’s going well. Are you all ready to go?” The wind blew, causing Valerie’s hair to flow through the air. Dave watched the girl's hair lift up, revealing her pierced ears. It was only when Valerie turned to notice Dave’s brown curls blow past his face, that he noticed that he was staring.

Valerie and Dave continued to stare at each other. “Oh- um- yeah, we can go,” Dave answers, nervously. Todd and Marty move their heads back and forth between the two, watching how they respond to each other before slowly leaving the two.

“You’re really pretty,” Dave subconsciously admitted. Valerie giggled and the boy, making him blush. “I have to say that you are just as much handsome,” She responded to his comment.

“I didn’t mean to say that.”

“Oh!” Valerie became sad at the thought of him being gay.

“No! No, not like that! I mean- you are very pretty, but-” Dave was cut off by Valerie.

“You’re gay. Is that it?” She asked.

She watched as Dave’s eyes furrowed in confusion. “What?”

“Well, everyone was telling me about how you were in this accident, and you were without clothes. They told me you were gay,” Valerie explained.

“What? That’s absurd! I’m not gay! If I was, I wouldn’t like you the way I do, now would I?” He scoffed.

Valerie was confused, “You like me- like me?”

Dave looked at the girl, nervously scratching his head. “Yeah,” he said sheepishly. Valerie blushed a dark shade of red. She stared the boy in the eye with a loving smile. “I like you too,” She smiled.

Dave took one more second to look the girl in the eye before pulling her in for a kiss. The kiss deepened as Valerie kissed the boy back. Their lip moved in sync for a whole minute before they pulled away from each other. Once again, the two watched each other with loving eyes.

“Ahem!” someone sounded from beside them. Their attention broke away from one another and onto the one who made the sound. They turned to find Todd and Marty once again next to them with smiling smirks on their faces. “I knew it!” Todd yelled out. Marty hit his chest and said, “No you didn’t! You thought Dave was gay, just like I did.” He rolled his eyes. “Now, are you two coming or not?”

Dave looked at the beautiful girl next to him. He held out his arm and said, “Shall we, my beautiful princess.”

Valerie grabbed ahold of Dave’s arm, and gave him a nod of her head before saying, “We shall, my good prince.”

“Then we shall ride through the sunset together on a beautiful steed!”

“Wow, you really are a nerd,” Valerie said, making the four of them laugh as they made their way through the New York streets.

So, I've seen a lot of people getting mad at Bones for seemingly erasing bkdk moments and replacing them with Izu//ocha. As someone who began as an anime only and migrated over to the manga, I never really saw this though? I got bkdk vibes pretty fast, even when I was just watching the anime. Besides that, a lot of people forget that Bones has added shipping material for every ship, not just specific ones. They added the Kabedon (wall pound), and they also animate plenty of added little winks to the audience. I think a lot of them slip by the western audience though because I think they're more Japanese specific. I only found out because I was hungry for bkdk content and looked up the eastern side of the fandom and cultural meanings in Japan XD. Another person explained what Bones might actually be doing. Usually studios add shipping moments for multiple groups in the interest of making money, since animation is expensive. Due to this, they might be doing more filler for ships that don't have a whole lot of canon content, while moving ships that do get canon attention along through use of the plot. Idk, I just don't understand the arguments others have made. Bkdk is incredibly popular in Japan, Japan's culture on bullying means they don't (usually) have the same issues that we do with Katsuki himself, and they've added shipping moments for KiriBaku and bkdk, which means they're open to the idea. I think it's less discrimination and more about what makes sense monetarily. Business is really difficult to run, especially in the entertainment industry. Finally, for all people have complained about the distance, I noticed that in season 5 they started moving bkdk closer to each other in general. I also feel like the adding distance thing could come down to a lot of factors. They had a lot of moments of bkdk sitting next to each other or (in one case) outright leaning on each other, only to randomly be back to distance again. It could make a nice visual metaphor for how Bakugo has gotten closer to Deku, but is still internally rebelling against it. Idk, I feel like that could a lot of ways. All depends on how you view it.

Now, okay, here’s my take on this

It’s not necessarily bones as a company rather the audience they have to conform to. And they most definitely leave in a lot of bkdk scenes, yes, but that’s quite literally because they can’t go around it, not only for plot but also that like, unless you were completely clueless most people KNEW Katsuki was going to get a redemption or atonement arc of some kind. We just weren’t expecting horikoshi to make it so… romantic. And intimate.

Bones isn’t necessarily homophobic, the amount of kiri//baku scenes in the movies and in the show is undeniable. Ntm the fact that Rody and deku had a whole romantic song montage in their movie. But there’s a REASON why kiri//baku is seen as the “most straight gay ship” and that’s simply because every other boy in the show (excluding Katsuki) has a “main woman” if you will. Kaminari has jirou, kirishima has Mina (I know I’m contradicting but I’ll explain later), Izuku has ochako, etc etc.

My point is that the reason that Katsuki is never the one getting comments like “bakugou is straight” like they say “deku is straight” is because he is the most queer mother fucker you’ve ever seen. He doesn’t HAVE a love interest (see in Katsuki meta👀) like every other boy does. Some people say it’s camie but, let’s be honest here, in every scene she’s in she doesn’t even pass the bechtel test. The friend group is fun and awesome, and she teases him a lot, but, in reality, she just doesn’t have enough scenes or screen time to be a full character and develop out of a rare pair.

And bones is aware of this, just as the fandom is. Katsuki simply doesn’t have a woman to establish him as straight AND ALSO has a lot of queer coding by fitting the “gay delinquent” trope. Kirishima also fits a lot of the Japanese ideas of the “gay delinquent”. This, was entirely purposeful.

In a way bones, like many mha fans, fell for a lot of the bait hori threw and then even exaggerated it. There’s this scene in the anime where ochako is changed to questioning why she likes Izuku and then says how she’s going to “lock away these feelings”, but in the manga she says “what the hell am I doing? He’s trying his best to be a hero, I also need to try my best.” This is paraphrasing ofc, I’d need to rewatch the scene and grab the panel but I don’t currently have access to my mha books. (Which is currently my only way of getting the official translations for older chapters lol)

In some cases, it’s a stretch I won’t lie. But, while bones isn’t exactly HOMOPHOBIC, it doesn’t change how bones tries to appeal to, ultimately, a bigger audience. Shonen needs a girl and boy ending and because mha is a shonen then it will have a girl and boy ending.

Another aspect is that homophobic fans just straight up hate Katsuki. Not only because they’re usually bullied white boys that fell down the alt right pipeline, but also because Katsuki gets in the way of any of their straight ships. He’s competition for not only ochako but also Mina. And they don’t like that, but since they can’t be outwardly homophobic they just say that he’s abusive or completely un redeemable. (Which is also weird bc these people tend to also like endeavor ?????? I don’t get it. Like, I like endeavor too but what)

There’s no getting around Katsuki being a VERY queer coded character. Not only with Izuku but also with kirishima. Bones doesn’t want to take away from izu//ocha so they put their eggs into one basket; aka kiri//baku.

Anywho, there’s a reason why so many anti bkdk shippers are anime only’s and that’s both because bkdk is “cringe” in mainstream media (thanks alt right pipeline) and also because a lot of the subtext and magic was lost. Ultimately, anime is just an adaptation. The only thing that REALLY matters IS the manga. So, in the case of bkdk being canon, there’s going to be an influx of anime only’s that say that this wasn’t implied, rushed, he was forced, etc etc etc and they will ultimately just have to cope and cry and wine about it in their own pity party.

Yada yada, I kinda rambled, but yeah. I do think bones censors and then pushes a certain narrative. I don’t think this is necessarily a bad thing either since, well, like I said before, anime is an adaptation of the manga. It’s not going to be accurate a LOT and that’s just a fact we kind of have to accept. I watch the anime to get the scenes I love animated now. I started out as an anime only (who started shipping them after dvk2) and I’ve re read most of the manga at this point. A lot is different and I’d honestly recommend to anyone who has the time and patience to read the entire manga. It truly is a different experience. Bkdk was more implied in the manga and izu//ocha was even more boring too. The only reason I even like izu//ocha is because of the first two seasons of mha, and then ofc fandom content. Otherwise, I’ve stopped caring for it mostly. They’re boring and have been boring for a long time. The only reason they WERENT is because of bones.

Again, anime adaptations are just that, adaptations. I don’t think it’s really a bad thing.

hot take: it should’ve been Izzy/Jace & Clary/Simon! Spoilers thru The Dark Artifices…

am I the only 1 who read City of Bones & City of Ashes & thought that Clary would be better w/Simon, while Izzy should be w/Jace?

hear me out!

I should start by admitting that from the 2nd chapter of COB, I disliked Clary. Throughout the series, there are SO many times where her refusal to listen to her allies makes things harder. She yells at Jace a lot in the beginning, despite the fact that he kinda saved her life. But then, all of a sudden, we’re told that her take-no-shit attitude breaks through his façade of arrogance & she’s the 1st girl he’s ever truly loved—as if that’s not dramatic. & then in COHF they fuck (while in an equivalent to Hell), since y’know, all couples have to fuck at least once before they die. & don’t get me started on how they proposed to each other.

Basically, their whole relationship is just a lot of over-the-top shit. Felt like they were both the “saviors” of the Clave, so they were pushed together (mind you, the 1st series takes place in a matter of MONTHS). It’s supercharged puppy love.

ANYWAY…

I guess my main thing is, Clary & Simon knew each other for a long time. Yeah, she somehow didn’t notice his crush on her. But she didn’t have to date him just because she wanted to ignore her feelings for Jace. (Tbh it seems like she was using Simon in that way, but whatever.) I’m a fan of friends-to-lovers, because I think your endgame should also be 1 of your best friends. & weirdly, Clary finally seems to find Simon attractive once he grows out his hair & other girls (Izzy & Maia) show an interest in him. Also, there were numerous occasions where Simon felt intimidated by Izzy, even when she treated him as a part of their group.

I’m sure that the biggest issue people have w/the idea of Izzy/Jace is the fact that they were raised together. Yeah, well, Alec had loved Jace practically since they 1st met, but we focused on Alec’s struggle as a gay young person in a partly homophobic atmosphere (+ the unrequited nature of it all). That parabatai curse from The Dark Artifices wasn’t mentioned (or *cough* created) until that series.

Back to Izzy/Jace. She’s said to be the only 1 who can keep up w/him & unless the popular theory that she’s Valentine’s other child-slash-experiment proves true…that’s fucking awesome. Whips are extremely hard & dangerous to wield, especially when you’re running in heels. So she keeps up w/him in a fight. She also keeps up w/him verbally—Jace is known to be well-read & sassy, but she always has a witty retort prepared for him. & again, for those who focus on them being raised together…1) there were lots of unrelated Shadowhunters living under 1 roof & 2) Jace thought he was related to Clary, but aside from some guilt, they still got all hot & bothered about each other. Lastly, everyone seems to forget that Simon lowkey cheated on Izzy & Maia by secretly dating them both AT THE SAME TIME. Considering Izzy’s relationship w/her dad in TMI, you’d think that’d cross Simon off of her list. Jace, on the other hand, is ridiculously loyal. The only time he ever does anything to hurt his love interest is when he’d rather hurt their feelings than watch them die.

So yeah…

Skullgirls Webtoon Episodes 15 and 16... WAIT PEACOCKxMARIE REAL!?

Finally read episodes 15 and 16 of the Skullgirls webtoon. Been going through some stuff lately and honestly I was waiting for the right time and it never came. But with the release of Black Dahlia in the Skullgirls game which I've been really hyped and after playing her story mode, I figured there was no better time to return to the comic then now. And after checking it out, it turns out that despite it being 3 weeks I've only missed 2 episodes because they are on another break. Understandably of course, artists shouldn't be overworked.

So first of, love the music loving gay fish couple at the start. They had neat designs and were cute together. Then we get more Big Band which was awesome, going to help Peacock with the brawl at the Casino. Patricia and Ben's friendship has always been so endearing to me, and I loved seeing Patricia's reaction to Ben showing up. Black Dahlia clearly wasn't going all out, just taking shots at Peacock from a distance. The conversation she has with Vitale regarding Cerebella was really interesting though and could have so many implications. What was especially interesting was seeing Vitale stand up for Cerebella, even though he's clearly just using her it was kind of nice. And then we have Parasoul and Egrets coming in to clean things up, leading to her confronting Ben and also the next chapter.

So this episode was really good, not just because of the final panel but that is one of the reasons. Anyway Parasoul continues to take things into her own hands as she investigates Lab 8 and uncovers the experiments they've been conducting. So Avian has been operating the lab in secret even after being ordered to shut down by Franz. Their operations are a little morally weird, and Parasoul has a point and was really understandable in this situation. I mean Avian has pretty much turned a bunch of people, including kids into super weapons to fight the Skullgirl, but also he did not mutilate them and very much saved them with his operations by giving them parts that they needed. Also they also seem to friends and are thankful to Avian. Getting to see the Egrets and Lab 8 was really cool though, and now it looks like were going to Maplecrest to see Marie in the next episode. On the other side of the episode, Eliza finally shows up! Another one of my favourite Skullgirls characters so that was pretty hype. I love how confident and in control she always is, and how she can be really scary. Vitale gets to see the results of Ms Fortune taking the life gem from his father, and now he's clearly bringing out the big guns to get it back. What Dahlia said about Cerebella has clearly gotten to Vitale, and although I'm not the biggest fan of Cerebella because of how incredibly ignorant she is, I do feel kind of bad for her. Trying as hard as she does for the people who are most important to her only to feel like she's being discarded is rough.

AND YO THAT LAST PANEL!!! Is the Peacock and Marie ship real? Favourite Skullgirls ship honestly, always loved the idea of these 2 as a couple. Thought it would be really adorable and that it would fit the story well. With their interactions and how much they care about each other it was very easy to read their relationship as romantic, and it would be so nice to have some representation with main characters. As nice as it is having Molly and Roxie and that fish couple, those are side characters and background characters. This image is very explicitly meant to be romantic coded, so hopefully something comes of this we aren't just being baited. Queer bait is a disgusting business practice that I refuse to support, and if this is a situation of exploiting the image of queerness without actually writing anything sincere for queer people then I'm probably dropping this comic.

GMMTV 2024 BINGO

Prediction/wishlist for the upcoming GMMTV event on October 17th. Thank you @icouldhyperfixatehim for creating this awesome bingo card.

I'm really late to the game but here's my bingo card for tomorrow's presscon!

At the end of the day, what I really want is to be surprised: give us things we didn't know we wanted, take risks. I want the actors to have fun with their new roles and I want them to do different things than what they're used to. Oh and let actors rest between jobs and PLEASE give the directing teams enough time to edit their series, stop rushing them to shoot and edit.

More details under the cut about what I think we're getting, things I desperately want and things I'd really like to see.

Things I will riot if we don't get:

Mark fucking Pakin KISSING (I don't care who but my man got to have someone to kiss). Let’s be real Mark needs another main role or at the very least a very good supporting role because he is doing a SPECTACULAR job in OF as Nick. And I like that he isn't fixed in a CP so give me anything.

P'Jojo said somewhere that he'd like to do a domestic cutesy BL, please give the man what he wants. As a general rule, GMMTV should just let Jojo do whatever Jojo wants to do, period. (No P'Jojo is GMMTV 2024 Part 1)

More mature/adult BL (not necessarily romance office), just PLEASE LET THE BOYS AND GIRLS ACT THEIR AGE P L E A S E (or you know, use the youngins you have to play high schoolers ffs).

More ensemble cast like Moonlight Chicken or Only Friends (not necessarily for the messy gay shenanigans but bc I LOVE seeing the boys act with/against each others)

If GMMTV is too scared to give us more GL (since 23.5 still hasn't aired) at least give us MORE secondary GL couples in series.

Things I would really like to see:

P’Aof recently said in a interview that he would like to work with actors he hasn't work with yet and that among gmmtv he hadn’t had the chance to work with Gun (or Krist) soooooooooo this could be the year is what I'm saying.

I want another OffGun (though I’m not holding my breath especially since we still haven't got Cooking Crush but ahem, P’Aof, P’Jojo, P'Waa anyone?)

Or even better: OffGunTayNew in the same series??? (BL or not I don't even care, I want them on the same set)

PLEASE give me something by the BMF production team (P'Waa Waasuthep, who also directed The Gifted) because Be My Favorite is definitely one of my favorite series of the year, it was perfect.

Since remakes are in right now, you know what I would love a Thai take on? Color Rush! I really liked this KBL, it had SUCH an interesting premise but… *sigh* it was way too short to be impactful imo (the vibe of the show though omg). (P'Nuchy? P'Golf?)

More trans characters with great supporting roles/strong storylines, more non-binary characters

More QUEER ELDERS!! Different generations of queer interacting (ex: the gay uncles in My Ride the series, they were EVERYTHING)

I would like to see more of Nonnie, I like what little we've seen of her in Only Friends.

updated thoughts on tng

just finished s3!

the last time i wrote about tng (here) i was 17 episodes into s1 so i thought this would be a good time to update what i think.

i can definitely see that the show is starting to hit its stride more. some episodes are better than others but for the most part i’m enjoying myself. our ensemble cast has been able to flush themselves out a bit more, which i love. i guess i’ll just talk about each crew member again.

picard: i still really don’t know what to think of this bald bitch. he’s had a few moments that i can appreciate but his character still feels so...stiff? which i mean it’s fine for someone to be but it means i won’t find them as interesting. he did just get taken by the borg so RIP :’(

riker: he is noticeably less horny now which personally i’m okay with. don’t get me wrong i love a good man slut monday moment but sometimes i do be getting uncomfortable. i think he didn’t really get to do too much this season? but also i took a break from tng for a few weeks so my memory might be shoddy. his character is definitely getting there and he feels like a kind friend but we can keep digging.

data: i want to take this android, grab him by the shoulders, shake him and say “to want something implies emotion. curiosity does not come without emotion. don’t you understand? you feel. you’re more human than you think. you’re more human than some of the people on the enterprise.” but i can’t do that. however recently he did gain the ability to both a) murder and b) lie about murder so i’m a HUGE fan of this direction for him

geordi: i love the gay blind man who is in love with the android. i think any episode with geordi as the main focus is one that i’m gonna enjoy. he is just so.....he. you know?

beverly: i had to adjust to pulaski and then i had to adjust back again to beverly so i don’t think i really know what to think yet. i feel like i like her and i also feel like she will never be written with complete justice. just a guess.

wesley: i was told about wesley a decent amount before starting tng (or even tos) so i already knew going into it that i would have a fondness for this kid. but even outside of that, i don’t really get how anyone could like..hate him? he’s literally just a little guy. he’s not even in a lot of the episodes and the ones he is in he’s usually just going aye sir warp 8 or whatever. but like. he is a kid! a little guy! he got promoted to full ensign because he’s so awesome and cool and epic and has to save the day but also he has no friends his own age and is very home of sexual. i want to give him a big hug.

troi: hi troi <3 <3 <3 <3 HIIIIIIIII miss beautiful......... anyway sorry where am i? oh yeah. troi. i already know she’s never really gonna be written or explored in any way that really matters so i’ve sort of resigned myself to just looking at her like someone in an old cartoon does when a pretty lady walks by. you know, eyes popping out of my head, heart pumping out of my chest, steam coming out of my ears, i tug a train horn and go AHOOGA. that’s me. fun fact paramount+ refuses to load the episode where she has a love interest and i think they were trying to spare me. also i love whatever insanely casual on and off thing she and riker have going on. (i also find lwaxana troi interesting and also a lens through which we learn more about troi. i don’t know if this is controversial to think or not.)

worf: he still really hasn’t gotten to do much but i like whenever he’s around. he only had like one or two episodes this season that were about him. i do think it’s interesting that he now basically has no klingon honor. the zuko of it all...

um what else. oh i liked yesterday’s enterprise, i thought it was a good, actually proper send-off for tasha even though i know they are going to keep fucking with her character. i didnt mind pulaski but i think i prefer beverly since she feels more of her own character rather than a bones knock-off. i can’t remember her name but i miss that one security officer that was friends with geordi. i forgot about the borg until they came back but idk how to feel about them yet. whoopi goldberg is there. have y’all seen ghost? i watched ghost recently she was great in that. this isn’t relevant. um.

anyway i still have s4-7 to go through so imma be here a while but i’m definitely noticing the improvements and i’m looking forward to watching more.

if youre seeing this in the heartstopper tag, youll have no clue whats happening, so go watch ride the cyclone, thank me later.

The Group (charlie, nick, tao, elle, darcy, and tara) go to the fair to commemorate the end of their summer break (holiday? im a filthy american i wouldn't know)

darcy makes them all go on her favorite ride, the cyclone, luckily, there are just enough seats for the six of them

they sit (corresponding with their rtc counterpart) tara and darcy, nick and charlie, elle and tao.

(also im giving tao ricky's disabilities because i think that would be so slay.)

then the accident happens.

they get to the warehouse, and five of them (tara, darcy, nick, charlie, and tao) are greeted by karnak, who tells them about the rules and yada yada yada

he then introduces the mystery contestant, who he calls jane doe (its elle). she lost her head in the accident, and, as a replacement, has the head of a doll tao won her earlier in the day. no one remembers anything about her, including charlie and tao.

tara goes first, she sings about her dreams and plans for the future, including lines about her and darcy moving away from their hometown. she's a little tad bit mean to everyone else, but it's lighthearted.

charlie goes next. he sings about his dreams of being born in a different, more accepting place, where he would never have been bullied for being gay. (his number does include a kiss with nick)

nick gets the mischa two song treatment. the first song is about rugby, its very this song is awesome-esque. the second song is a really emotional song (in french) about charlie and how he'll never be able to give him everything because they're both dead.

karnak is then like "hey do you want to know what would have happened had the accident never happened" and nick is like "yeah duh" but charlie stops him because it already hurts enough that theyre dead, theres no point in hurting more at the thought of what could have been.

okay but imagine the "i will vote for noel" scene with nick and charlie. they love and care about each other so much.

tao goes next, his song is about his fantasy movie that he lives in in his head, featuring charlie as his bff because canon and elle as the main love interest (despite him not being able to remember her) he concedes his vote because he has accepted his death, and the Hero would never vote for himself

this is followed by elle, who sings the ballad of jane doe. i think shes so neat

then, tara leads them in celebrating a little birthday for elle. they sing the new birthday song, its sweet, elle really appreciates it.

here are the little duo groups:

nick and charlie talk about how thoroughly they improved each others lives, and agree that they are content to be in the afterlife together.

tao and elle talk about elle's birthday celebration, and tao gives her the temporary name penny, penny with the brownest eyes. tao is in love with her, its adorable

tara and darcy talk about how hard it is for them to accept that its over, and darcy hints at voting for elle to come back. tara is conflicted

this leads into darcy's monologue about how she feels about their little hometown, and how she used to be embarrassed about it but realizes that the only good things that happened to her happened there. she sings sugarcloud, its so good.

after sugarcloud, tara and darcy have a moment together (tm) and karnak announces that the final decision will be tara's

she ends up accepting her fate, satisfied to be here with her friends, and chooses elle (it is a unanimous vote though, the rest of them would have voted for her)

elle walks into the light, coming back to life

"her name is elle argent..." etc, the little karnak speech

they watch a montage of her growing old, happy for her (it's not a game)

then, all accepting of their fate, they sing it's just a ride, leading them into their final afterlife.

1. Who is your favourite character in 2?

Mobius tbh... I love Loki, don't get me wrong, he's AWESOME, and I think Sylvie has a lot of potential but isn't written the way I'd like her to be... BUT the chemistry between Mobius and literally everyone else? WONDERFUL. Also, I'm just a sucker for Owen Wilson.

2. Who is your least favourite character in 1?

Not to cop out, but Jeremy Jam... but if I have to choose main cast, Tom.

3. What's your favourite episode of 4?

The Casino my favorite episode so far, but I'm always hungry for more.

4. What is your favourite season of 5?

Too easy. Season 3.

5. What's your favourite relationship in 3?

I hate the way I ordered this. None romantically, but I love the way Charlie plays off Dennis and Mac. They have a great energy.

6. Who is your anti relationship in 2?

None tbh. I used to be pretty vocally anti-Sylki but I think that's just because Sylvie has some weird writing flaws that don't work for me and just make her and Loki very toxic. However, I've read a lot of fanfiction that really makes it work while preserving both characters at their core and I think there is a lot of potential for it to work, so I'm no longer against it. None! I like all of the ships people come up with! (But I am partial to Mobius and Ravonna being divorced. Them being in love with each other just doesn't work for me, personally with what I've been given in canon.)

7. How long have you watched 1?

I think I picked it up in 2016 or 2017? I've rewatched it many times since!

8. How did you become interested in 3?

I love sitcoms and used to try to find good, not-so-family oriented network shows to share with my dad (on the level Seinfeld, The Office, Parks and Rec, not so much Roseanne or Friends if you catch me?) and It's Always Sunny kept coming up! So when I was 13 or 14 I started watching it and fell in love!

9. Who is your favourite actor in 4?

Matt Berry 👌 (Although I like Harvey Guillen, too)

10. Which show do you prefer 1, 2 or 5?

1 is my favorite. 2 and 5 have their issues. I actually never finished Community because so many cast members left, and Loki has some weird writing problems. Parks and Rec is ultimate though.

11. Which show have you seen more episodes of 1 or 3?

I guess Always Sunny but I've seen all of both.

12. If you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?

I want to be Lazlo but we all know I'm Colin.

13. How would you kill off your favourite character in 5?

In the most narratively satisfying way possible, preferably in the form of a film homage. It's what Abed would want.

14. Would a 3/4 crossover work?

Yes and it would be the best thing I've ever seen because of how much it doesn't. Nadja and Dee have evil plans, Jackie Daytona working the bar. Mac thinks Guillermo will understand things because he is also gay. Guillermo thinks he's insane and keeps looking at the camera. Dennis and Nandor try to kill each other. Charlie actively enjoys the vampires but not Colin, who he pushes off on Frank. The gang kicks Colin out of the bar.

15. Pair two characters in 1 that would make an unlikely, but strangely okay couple.

I like all the pairings Parks and Rec uses but I'm going to say Anne and Donna. It would just be interesting to watch. Not good, but fascinating.

The Priory of the Orange Tree

I originally picked this book up because of how beautiful the cover was. I know there's a whole saying about that, I don't care, that's just how I choose books. If the cover's pretty, I'll read it. (Of course I also listen to recommendations from friends.)

(Minor to medium spoilers after the cut. I don't think it'll ruin the book for you but that's up to you. The spoilers get bigger the farther in the post you read, so go as deep as you'd like then stop.)

Overall, I enjoyed it a lot. It's pretty much what I see as the platonic ideal of classic fantasy, with dragon riders and good and evil dragons and swordfighting women and prophecy and birthright and pirates and court intrigue and alchemy and ancient riddles and witches and just about anything else I'd expect from the genre. It's pretty much just that but it's about lesbians. Awesome! There's also an ichneumon which is like a giant weasel thing that eats dragons.

One of the three settings the book presents seems like it's basically medieval Europe but with closer to modern sensibles about gender and sexuality. My dad, who read the book before me, described it as having no gender roles, but that's not accurate. Misogyny and homophobia both still show up through the pressure on the firstborns of families to have an heir to continue the family's lineage. There are multiple wlw and mlm romances relevant to the plot, and they're all stigmatized and made to be kept secret. So, it may not be a culture that directly hates women and gay people, but it is a culture that, through its deeply-held beliefs, carries out the marginalization of women and gay people. There is a matriarchal line of queens, who the book is careful to note are nonetheless victims of this pressure to concieve a child.

This doesn't make the book bad! In fact, I really enjoyed the exploration of slightly different gender roles in a fantasy setting. It's just that my dad, as much as I love him, isn't the best source on whether misogyny exists in a fictional world.

There's sort of an interesting contradiction in how the book seems to condemn this idolization of family line and how magic is treated as directly hereditary: the only way you can use one of the two kinds of magic is if you're directly descended from one of three women who ate a magic fruit at the beginning of the world. (Oh hey I never saw the Adam and Eve thing until I just now wrote that sentence, I wonder if there's anything interesting to be pulled from that. Oh well.) The whole plot of the book revolves around three descendants, each from one of these women, coming together from separate corners of the world to fulfill their birthrights and destroy an ancient evil that's coming back after being banished by their ancestors. So what is the reader meant to take away from this? We see how much this focus on hereditary lines hurts the main characters of the book, but in the end it's the only thing that could possibly have saved the world. I don't know. Maybe it'll make more sense when it's been stewing in my brain a little longer.

This Week in BL - Things are Very Mixed

May 2023 Wk 1

Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs. Organized by which ones (in each category) I’m enjoying most.

Ongoing Series - Thai

Step By Step (Thai Tues WeTV & Gaga) ep 3 of 10 (MDL still says 12, but Gaga still says 10) - The subs are janky on YT, so you might want to watch this on Gaga. This is such a good show, it just feels so much more authentic to an office environment and first job then anything else I’ve seen in BL. Now that might be because it has western source material, or it might be because it is actually kind of old-fashioned (it’s been years since I worked as an office grunt). While the authenticity may be a little triggering for some, I love how much tension it adds to the leads’ dynamic and the quality of the narrative. I also really love the brothers’ relationship, now that we got to see them on screen together for a bit. Walk of shame was great! Oh look, character development, how novel. This is what Boss & Babe should have been. Not sold on the sides tho it’s nice to see a faen fatal as the main character in a dynamic for a change.

La Pluie (Sat iQIYI) ep 2 of 10 - This one is really grabbing me by the throat. I love the starter concepts, what a fantastic twist on a meet cute not to mention soulmates. I hope we spend more time with the vet and his coworkers, they seem awesome. And another surprise, the guy we think is being set up to be the brother’s love interest is now clearly interested in the wrong brother. I love the trope subversions going on with this show!

Our Skyy 2 (The Eclipse) eps 5-6 - FirstKhao are just ridiculously cute as a couple. Honestly? Aye just seems like he would be a lot of work as a lover. I’m not as wild about the premise of this installment, with the film clips and stuff (as I was of NlMG’s installment). And then, the singing. Oh well, you can’t have everything. I gotta say, First is a great crier, although I don’t think this story warranted his tears. In the end? My feelings on this installment were mixed, the movie storyline didn’t grab me and the birthday storyline seems a touch mean spirited, but I do think it adds substantially to the original Eclipse rather than feeling superfluous or slapdash like many of the other Our Skyys. So I’m going to go with 8/10

Future (Thai Sun YouTube & Gaga) ep 6fin - More of the same (which I like) but I’m glad it ended. Didn’t need to get dragged out. Such drama over nothing. In the end? This is just a soft sweet cotton candy fluff piece about a younger boy who pursues an older boy and then manufactures silly gay drama. Nothing wrong with that. But I don’t think this style of BL really appeals to a very large market share. Will I rewatch it? Sure. Will anyone else? Nope. 7/10 RECOMMENDED WITH RESERVATIONS.

Pastsenger (Thai Weds Gaga) ep 9 of 12 eps - And now the amnesia trope. I’m not a fan. This is such a pulp. At least it ends next week? Groan, no 3 more eps.

A Boss and a Babe (Fri YouTube) ep 10 of 12 - one thing I realize I like about this main couple’s dynamic is that the seme/uke seems earned, where it didn’t in Echante. I don’t have much else to say except it’s crazy when a narrative betrays its characters like this and why to poor ForceBook keep having to deal with it?

The Promise (Thai Weds YT & WeTV) ep 7 of 10 - Honestly, who wears an all white outfit to play around with coffee beans in the countryside? I LOVE the faen fatal, he’s so good, courageous, honest, and morally sound. He even gives his rival fair warning. Nan should totally go out with him. I made awwww noises over the faen fatal! I NEVER do that. I guess Phu was right all along? Nan won’t date a friend. Ultimate friend zone. Well shit. This show. Ouch.

House of Stars (Thai Mon iQIYI) ep 1 of ?? - There seems a slight horror element which I do not like and it’s also confusingly like Melrose Place or something. Everyone is sleeping with, or wants to be sleeping with everyone else. It’s kinda hilarious to watch something where all the actors are supposed to be good actors but it’s a pulp so they just really aren’t. So far my main issue is I can’t keep them all straight in my head (pun intended).

Tin Tam Jai (Tues Gaga) ep 10fin - There is very little I enjoyed about this show. The entirely forgotten side dishes gave us 5 min of excellent high heat and then vanished, but otherwise this show sucked in the wrong way. It’s forgettable and I intend to do just that. 5/10

Ongoing Series - Not Thai

Our Dining Table AKA Bokura no Shokutaku (Japan Thurs Gaga) ep 5 of 10 - The way these two are very quietly yet thoroughly falling in love with each other is executed with such grace and subtlety that only Japan could have handed this out. It’s not even “falling” it’s more like sliding gradually into love.

Love Mate (Korea Thurs Viki) eps 1-2 of 8 - Launched very much openly gay so that’s fun. Also very much bubble too, so no one around them cares. So: Seo is a player jaded older uke (fun character type we don’t see often) and his seme is a romantic if arrogant weirdo. Can you see my hands clapping? Combative trope activation! Absurdity. How fun. Also workplace harassment but hayho that’s BL for ya. (Also a nonBL Kdrama specialty.) ALSO whole office in on seme-stalker’s side? All in all, it’s odd and questionable, but I’m into it. Why am I like this?

Happy Merry Ending (Korea Thurs Gaga) eps 3-4 of 8 - OK I’m not super into the main couple but I love all of the surrounding characters. The overly protective best friend with a crush is giving bad advice but it’s understandable and he’s super hot so I forgive him. And the idol character is a wonderful addition, he is my baby. Also, evil ex is v evil.

Vian the series (Vietnam YT ) - I thought this was gonna be Tiktok only but apparently it’s showing up on YT too. It’s cute! My cat boyfriend (which is more common that it should be) and this seems to be Vietnam’s installment (we got Thailand’s last year). The boy playing the cat is the prettiest human being on the planet. Fight me. No fight him, get scratched. Serious tho. Holy hairballs. Look I don’t really like vertical content but I am watching this for him. Meow, indeed.

The Day I Loved You (Vietnam YouTube) eps 2-3 of ? - BL Express’s first impressions mirror mine. Niks is so flipping cute. Rich kid is so into him, so is bestie. So much gay macho posturing. So much bi fear and het shame. But also it’s killer to get a femme main characters who isn’t being mocked. Dancing trope continues (better than singing together). It is kinda Heartstopper goes Pinoy BL. Honestly, I prefer kids a little drawings to terrible sound effects. This is better than it or we have any right to expect.

Naked Dinner AKA Zenra Meshi (Japan Fri Gaga) ep 4 of 12 - There is a lot I like about this drama, except the weird central conceit of the naked dining. But the romance part is cute, if a tad simplistic.

My Story (Pinoy Sat YouTube) ep 4 of 10 - chukchuk went missing and so did my interest in this show. I’m DNFing this one.

Dancing together, the baby sub-trope of 2023. (The Day I Love You)

It’s Airing But ...

Love Syndrome (Thai Sat WeTV) stopped at ep 2 of 12 - I’m just not into any aspect of it (except Lee Long Shi) - saving to binge if the end is solid.

Venus in the Sky (Sat YouTube) pilot/tester?) 0 of 10 - not entirely sure what’s up with this one distribution-wise, but the pilot was classic university-set pulp. I hope it happens because the leads are cute with good chemsitry and I thought it was fun. However, this pilot holds together as its own little short too.

Stormy Honeymoon (Vietnam) - meh

In Case You Missed It

Actors Bas Suradej (2 Moons etc...) and Copter Panuwat (so much BL) have left Starhunter. So Copter and Kimmon will part ways as an on-screen pair (RIP KimCop). Their upcoming show Boy Never Smiles will still air, but will likely be their last together. (source)

Restart After Come Back Home (highly recommended), Athlete, Capture Lover, Tkumi-kun, His the movie (recommended) and also a bunch of the dark stuff like Forbidden Love and Shortest Distance are all leaving Gagaoolala soon. So watch ‘em while you can. A few are also on Viki, but many will be difficult to get hold of without Gaga.

I finally finished the second season of The Reason Why He Fell in Love with Me (Japan Gaga) and gave it a 4/10. I just don’t like or recommend any of the installments of this franchise, but if I had to pick, it’s season one.

Make a Wish finished at 6 eps. Stars Fluke Natouch (OhmFluke UWMA etc...) & Judo (The Miracle Of Teddy Bear) in medical-fantasy about a doctor who sees ghosts and a deity who resides in a Bodhi tree that earns merits whenever he fulfills a wish. Based on a y-novel by Sammon (Manner of Death, Triage). I will watch it if I get hold of it, but for now... who knows how it went?

Gay Sherlock Holmes Pastiches Review - The Adventure of the Colonial Boy

My vedict: 5 stars.

Ok objectively it should be 4 but half more star for the cool Chinese woman character and another half for a certain plot that is very healing for me.

I really like this book! This is written by the same author as the last one I reviewed: A Dream To Build A Kiss On. But this one is much better imo. The story is better and the writing is more sophisticated. The struggle of Watson after witness his brother's tragedy is very touching, and how they both overcome their fear and doubt about love to be with each other is very encouraging. I love it a lot.

The mystery/case aspect of this one is alright - not super engaging but interesting enough to keep me reading instead of skimming through. And the awesome Chinese woman character! A big thumbs up!

This book makes me think about mystery and romance and how they could fit into each other. I said objectively it is 4 stars because I feel the mystery and the romance are somehow segregated. Yes there are some plots their conflict against the enemies bring their relationship deeper, but generally speaking the case itself and their relationship development are two parallel lines, and even sort of distracting to each other. When I read about the mystery and suddenly one character starts to think about their love, or when they are being affectionate but then have to be back on track to solve the case, it is just confusing and kind of pulls me out of the reading a bit. It disturbs the flow.

That being said, I know it is very hard to integrate these two aspects well enough. I have read very few romance/mystery novels, and for now, I haven't seen any that I can say is well done. One aspect is always weaker than another, or they somehow get mixed up in a very weird confusing way. Mystery and romance might be mutually exclusive imo, unless the mystery involves one of the characters who are in the relationship. But maybe I just read so few fictional works that I haven't seen enough.

But to be fair, I barely see any romance that interests me at all other than ships in fandom...oh well lol this is getting subjective.

So this book, even though is not perfectly done, I can see the effort of the writer to bring these two aspects together and it is enjoyable. I appreciate it.

One specific plot in this book is so healing for me that I have to give it more stars.

In this story Watson's brother Henry died because he was found out to be gay and was disowned by his father, and got through a lot of rough times because of his sexual orientation, which eventually leads to his tragic ending. John has his pocket watch, and it becomes a warning of the danger of being in gay relationships. Whenever he desires Sherlock he sees the watch and reminds himself not to do anything foolish. The watch is the solidification of his fear of being with a man.

I read a very long fanfic more than a decade ago, which has haunted me for years, and still lingers in the back of my mind. It is very homophobic and the main character has some really fucked up internalized homophobia, and he has something to remind himself not being gay just like Watson's watch in this book. Whenever he wants to be with a man he will look at the thing and suppress his desire. He is not merely fearing for being gay, but also reassures himself that being gay is wrong and it is moral to suppress his feelings.

This particular trope plagued me at first, then I turned it into a running joke among my friends, but it resonates with my personal experience of fearing being the sexual minority, so I never fully recovered from it.

But in Colonial Boy, John chooses to be brave and be with Sherlock, and later on, he gives the watch away to save Sherlock's life. Then he takes Sherlock to his brother's grave and they make the pledge of marriage to each other, Henry's spirit being their witness. He breaks the curse attached to the watch and leaves the fear and doubt behind. At the moment, I feel the same--the lingering effect of that particular plot now is easing away bit by bit. I feel refreshed and braver. Maybe these stories can help me heal, if not all the wounds from real life, at least the doubt left over by my encounters with those hurtful fanfictions and toxic people. Stories like this give me hope--it is not the first one, and definitely will not be the last one.

@archetypewriter tagged me in this forever ago because they are lovely and awesome, and I’m finally getting around to filling this out (feeling chatty tonight)

last song - LOL ‘Welcome to the Black Parade’ by My Chemical Romance. I have a Spotify playlist called ‘Classic Rock for Geriatric Millennials’ that I’ve been listening to a lot, and it’s on there. Here’s a link if you want to listen to ‘rock’ music circa 2000-2010. Also, (tw: sad stuff) this album came out a couple weeks after my dad died, and it really helped me through that time, so I’ve always had a soft spot in my heart for MCR and their little Black Parade.

last tv show - I just finished season 2 of The Wilds. Hot take: I enjoyed the boys’ plotlines, and I’m interested to see where they go with everything in season 3. FYI for my fellow Olds, Ben Folds is in a few episodes playing himself and it’s kind of awesome??

currently watching - Forcing myself through Moon Knight (I DO NOT LIKE THIS SHOW; I do like Oscar Isaac). Started Heartstopper because my best friend is watching it, and it’s cute and sweet, but a bit too cute and sweet for my taste. But! My friend came out as gay about five years ago, and he’s still really struggling with his sexuality/identity and I want to be supportive, and I’m happy that there’s a show that isn’t about solely LGBTQ+ trauma and is just a nice little love story. LGBTQ+ people need and deserve that. (I have more to say about my friend and my own queerness and how we fail each other sometimes in terms of support/community, but that is a whole other post; Heartstopper is very inclusive and adorable, and I do recommend it to any and all queer people).

currently reading - too many books!!! Nearly finished with Road of Bones by Christopher Golden, which has been a thrilling little horror tale set in Siberia that is centered around some of their shamanistic myths. Also, I’m two chapters in to An Accidental Death by Peter Grainger, which is good so far! I’m listening to the audiobook while taking my morning walks, so I’m interested to see what happens next. Also! A few chapters in to The Morning Star by Karl Ove Knausgard. It’s almost 700 pages long and has very long chapters and multiple narrators, which can sometimes be jarring, but I’ve enjoyed getting to know the main characters so far. It might take me a while to finish, but I’m really liking it and want to add more Scandinavian literature to my list.

opinions on the various cog managers of TTCC

wow thank you for asking because i want to infodump

i like the main taskline managers, i think especially derrick man has really fun dialogue interacting with the other toon while also adding more information about how many cogs think and how they find boring stuff fun. i don't have much to say about facility managers but i love skelecogs designs in general

but the regional managers are the reason why i wanted to get into toontown. don't get me wrong toontown is a really charming game with a fun gameplay, it's a good game without them but it is massively improved with them in it. They add a lot of personality and really interesting stories to this world. I feel like you can do A LOT with the concept of toontown and i'm glad CC is doing just that, with more content coming in the future, it's really exciting

Duck Shuffler is my personal favorite because i think he is funny. But seriously i do really like his design and he has a really fun personality specially compared with how serious cogs usually are. That's why I really like Major Player too, he is fun, he is theatrical, he puts on a good show, he does not care about this big corporation he cares about his music and his shows, which is a really interesting concept to explore. I know the fusion isn't canon but it adds a lot to their relationship and how well they work together, how neither really care about this fight with toons and just like to have a good time

In fact managers like Rainmaker, Multislacker and Chainsaw Manager also explore the idea that there are cogs that simply don't want (or care) to fight the toons. Rainmaker i adore, she's one of my favorites, seeing a cog that is so miserable working in this company but can't even reach out to toons either is really tragic. Adding the mercy option to this battle is a game changer, this is something that you don't expect in toontown and yet they pull it off perfectly, Rainmaker leaves a really big impact on you and gives you high hopes for what the future of this game can offer you

Multislacker is a fun character, i tend to really love the cartoony apathetic nihilistic characters, and they offer another interesting perspective of what if there are cogs that just do not care, that they see the monotony of the endless gameplay of toons fighting cogs and cogs fighting toons. It's fun in a meta way but it's fun in the story itself too, you get to understand that this character is more than just some lazy guy, they just don't care about all of this and prefer to at least get to have fun watching tv

Chainsaw Manager is an interesting case, it's someone whose life has been ruined by working in this company. We don't know exactly why this is happening, i thought i was missing some information but it seems like this is so far an unsolved mystery? Which is interesting too, having missing pieces in the story that we will find out with time. But you don't have to understand why this is happening to understand that this guy is pretty miserable, to the point where he worries about toons's safety. He also has the best animation in the entire game lol all the budget went to this man. I feel bad that i don't have much to say about Treekiller but the fact that he has a brotherly bond with Chainsaw Manager is what makes me care the most about this character, they have very different personalities but it's always so nice to see cogs that care about each other

It's why i really love Firestarter and Pacesetter as well, these two have a romantic relationship and i think it's awesome there is gay people in this game. shy nervous character with confident energetic character kind of relationship which i always find really endearing. Firestarter has one of my favorite designs of the game, Pacesetter's fight is insane, and overall both of them are characters i really like individually and work even better as a couple

Deepdiver is one of my favorites simply because i am autistic and love marine biology, so she's of course and instant favorite (we even share the same name lol), plus overall they're very sweet and it's interesting that there are cogs that DO care about the environment. Gatekeeper, her girlfriend, talks like rouxl kaard so i can barely understand her but i love her personality and knight helmet is always an awesome design choice

Prethinker is another big favorite of mine and he's the complete opposite of complexity, he is the most cartoon villain of them all and i love him exactly for that. i just think he is really funny, loser forever stuck in the first area of the game

I don't have super interesting things to say about the rest of the managers but i like them a lot too. Bellringer is funny to me, Mouthpiece is grandma, Featherbedder is sleepy nonbinary representation. I like plutocrat but i like his skelecogs more, and sorry to witch hunter but i do not care about this man lol

Overall this game has really fun characters, a really good cast of characters to infodump about

so in which are you able to meet a few lesbians? that is a hard one for all people new to the lesbian/bisexual scene. the first location i will consider is the lesbian bar. in many towns and cities, a lesbian bar could be the most effective region to meet girls. in case your no longer a whole lot of a bar/membership groupie, strive taking place a weeknight while it is a chunk calmer of an atmosphere and extra friendly.

in case you're seeking out a lesbian associate with comparable pursuits to your very own, get involved in activities that hobby you. volunteer at the neighborhood animal shelter, join the nearby gardening club or chook watchers institution. the lesbians who are there may be few, but you realize you may have some thing in not unusual with them.
