Disney needs to stop making live action remakes that no one wants and go back to what caused their renaissance in the first place
Finding horrific public domain stories and twisting them into adorable animated musicals so kids who like them will look up the original and be traumatized by the actual Hunchback of Notre Dame or how well Hercules’ marriage goes
I don’t want live action Moana I want to see Disney’s take on The Odyssey, or Dracula, or The Count of Monte Cristo

If we put aside the racism, the book Hunchback of Notre Dame (by Hugo) is such a good account of how a teenage girl gets taken advantage of by different adult men who use their experience, their older age, their fame and their power, to use her for sex (Phoebus) or to prey on her and force her to sleep with them, only to kill her when she refuses (Frollo), how married men will see their wives as trophies and objects and will sleep with girls they don't care about (Phoebus again), how that teenage girl grows up in a society that grooms her to think older, powerful men are to be desired, and how Romani teenage girls are eroticized and seen as exotic (which... Hugo himself is guilty of that...).
Disney mostly corrected the racism that was in the book but they completely removed any criticism of heterosexual love that was in it. They could have taken it and gone further and made it feminist, but no, they completely removed it. Now, Esmeralda is an (adult? i sure hope she isn't supposed to be a teenager) hottie who is probably the most sexualized Disney character to have ever existed (like... she does a pole dance then flashes her genitals at Frollo's face) and her relationship with Phoebus is portrayed as pure and healthy (despite their unequal places in society). Hunchback of Notre Dame misses so many marks and could have been so much better than what we've got. I have no idea why Disney decided to adapt that story for their movies and I have no idea why they decided to turn it the way they did

I can't hold in my silence
This ver of Frollo is VERY goofy
Tumblr media
Why did Disney make him a twink. Keep his old grandpa age. The older, the better. ROLLO??? LIKE SAY HIS NAME. IT'S FROLLO.
FROLLO.
I SOUND RLLY RUDE (and I don't wanna) BUT I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO THAT IS ANYMORE.
If you took away his entire outfit (like in the art) I wouldn't be able to remember him.
And I've heard people say this ver is hot but say regular Frollo is ugly. IF YOU'RE GONNA SAY THAT BUT EXCUSE THEIR ACTIONS THEN DOUBLE STANDARDS. Y'ALL ARE SO CRUEL. OLD MEN ARE HOT. STOP CALLING THEM UGLY. STOP DE-AGING THEM FOR YOUR TWINKY TASTE.

ALRIGHT ALRIGHT HOLD YOUR HORSES FINE I'LL POST THESE ON MY MAIN TOO. /lh
(Took a better picture of the first drawing too since the one on my other blog was kinda blurry💔)
Context: I was messing around with a character ai of Frollo, one thing led to another and I ended up creating this. It's a beast au, one where Frollo is punished for his crimes by transforming into a snake/sheep-drake (land dragon) kind of monster. His outsides finally matching his insides, a creature of his own making.
The more I thought out the universe for this AU the more I found myself joking about this being an alternative version of Beauty and The Beast (the fucking coincidence too that Frollo is french 💀💀) except there is no happy ending for the beast (not in a fairytale-esque way anyway) and there is no breaking this 'enchantment' because it's a full-on curse. And this only accentuated the minister's self-hatred and internal turmoil, since now his every desire comes bubbling out along with his animalistic instincts.

I want a story where, through some twists of fate, The Beast, Erik/The Phantom, and Quasimodo/The Hunchback end up getting swapped around and raised in each other's stories. Not necessarily origin-wise (Quasimodo in Beast's story isn't cursed to be a hunchback, etc.).
The Phantom of Notre Dame: Erik gets taken in by Frollo and becomes the most talented voice in the Notre Dame church choir. His voice echoes and booms through the perfect acoustics. Maybe he's "normal" enough to not be kept hidden by Frollo like Quasimodo and he gets some more human interaction, or maybe he's still kept hidden and nobody sees where this beautiful voice is coming from. Maybe the bells deafen him and he plays the church organ, or longs for someone whose voice vibrates with the church acoustics and through his heart.
The Beast of the Opera: The Beast lives beneath the Palais Garnier and is a regular actor in plays requiring a monster, but mysteriously no one ever sees him putting on or taking off his costume. Those in the audience are revolted at the realism of his hideous form, but find his acting moves them to tears, watching him bemoan his sorry state or long for love. Could a story on stage give them permission to love a beast?
Beauty and the Hunchback: Quasimodo, living alone in an abandoned wealthy estate (or perhaps adopted by its owners and left alone when they died), takes pity on the merchant father and generously allows him to spend the night and even take a rose for his youngest daughter. Then, being so lonely, even offers he bring his youngest daughter (or even his whole family) to live there with him. Already being kind, the enchantress hasn't cursed him - perhaps she blesses him for his generosity, or even ends up cursing Beauty's selfish older sisters instead.
