Hey!! Any chance I could request a labor fic w fives? If not that’s totally ok I’m just super into pregnant readers lol
YOU ABSOLUTELY CAN ANON I AM GOING INSANE WITH THE IMPLICATIONS OF THIS ASK
(I am also super into pregnant readers in case you can't tell xP)
I Want You Forever And Always (Fives x Pregnant!Reader)
Notes/Warnings: reference to Fives' death but SPOILERS! He's not actually dead. Labor and delivery, pregnancy, angst with a happy ending, hurt/comfort, Order 66 o_o This one is kind of long but i doubt yall will mind
Tumblr media
he's just so pretty......
Deep breaths. That's all you had to do. Never mind that a sentient being the size of a bowling ball was preparing to make its entrance to the waking world via a hole on your body that was usually no bigger than a grape. No matter that the galaxy was in the middle of a war that tore each planet at the seams. no matter that your family was stuck on the other side of the galaxy and none of them could be there to support you in this crucial moment
Never mind that the father of your child was dead.
You held the dog tag so tightly in your hand that it left an imprint on your palm. It wasn't an actual dog tag, the Kaminoans were far too advanced to require those, but Fives was charmed with the story you had once told him of how when your grandfather had died in battle during the Hyperspace war, he left a tag with his name, station, and one of his favorite sayings hanging on a chain of metal. When Fives got a fresh suit of armor, he'd cut a piece off of his old chestplate, just above his heart, and hung it on a chain.
You wore the tag like a charm ever since he died, hoping some of the insane good luck that had kept him alive through most of the Clone War would rub off on you and your unborn child.
It worked, kind of. You still had crippling anxiety about raising your child alone on Coruscaunt. You could move back to Dantooine with your family, but there you could only make half on the farm there of what you did with your office job here.
And what if the Kaminoans and the Republic got wind of who the father was? Fives was dead, they couldn't punish him for inappropriate relations, but what if they took your child, claiming that it was their property, just as they had with Fives and the millions of brothers who had died before him in this pointless, endless war.
Despite your worries, the labor was progressing well, or so the med-droid told you. It was covered in a soft, rubbery material that mimicked human skin, offering a comforting touch or an arm to lean on. It was all you had, you weren't complaining.
"Have you picked out a name?" It asked. the modulated voice sounded like your wrinkled old grandmother.
"No, not yet." Another contraction hit, and you breathed steadily as you continued your walk around the room. It wasn't too bad, it was just boring, but the doctor said it was meant to help the birth go faster. Who were you to deny yourself?
"I have a database of every recorded name in the galaxy, should you require inspiration. Would you like me to suggest some appropriate names?"
Names, names, what's in a name? Fives and his brothers had some of the most ridiculous names, but you loved them.
"Sure, why not?" You had nothing else to do, and the news playing on the holomonitor behind you wasn't very interesting at the moment.
Without hesitation, the droid began to rattle off a list of names and their meanings, some of which weren't even in basic.
"Luke is a popular boy's name that originated from Tattooine. In Huttese, it means 'little dragon'."
"Really?" You struggled to stay polite. as another contraction knocked the wind out of your lungs. You gripped the railing of your hospital bed for support.
The nursing droid stroked your arm, but otherwise seemed blissfully unaware of your pain.
"There is also the name Lando, menaing land." Original.
"Of course, Many families have taken to naming their sons after the Jedi Generals who have impacted their lives. Have you any such interactions with the Jedi?"
The most you'd interacted with a Jedi was Fives' General, the Jedi Anakin Skywalker. And that was when you'd drunk him under the table at 79's. Fives had been so proud of you that night.
"Not really," You said, breathing evening out, but now you had to hold back tears again. You had a few more minutes before the next contraction.
"Very well," The lights in the droid's eyes blinked. If droids could feel annoyed, this one certainly would be.
"If all else fails, you could name them after the father."
You laughed humorlessly. "Do you have any definitions for the name Fives?"
"I do not understand," the nurse droid said, "the definition of Five would be 'equivalent to the sum of two and three; one more than four, or half of ten'."

Kiss Me Slowly (Crosshair x GN!Reader)
Notes: possessive Crosshair, jealous audience, 79's, established Crosshair x Reader. Not stated explicitly, but Cross is wearing a biker jacket on his night out ^_^
Tumblr media
Both the Wolfpack and the 212th were on Coruscant, so of course 79's would be packed. Crosshair told you to meet him and the rest of the Batch, but you had barely managed to get off work in time. Even then, there was still a bunch of traffic to get through, and work didn't have you in the best of moods.
Crosshair was waiting for you when you came in, but you brushed him off.
"Not right now," You muttered. You had a headache and you needed Corellian Ale before you could even begin to entertain the idea of spending the rest of your precocious downtime in a crowded, sweaty bar, even if it was with Crosshair.
The hurt on his face haunted you behind closed eyelids as you waited for your drink. Scanning the crowd, you found Crosshair sulking in the usual booth with his brothers.
A small crowd was beginning to form around the infamous Clone Force Ninety-Nine. Hunter and Tech had managed to bring their partners to the side of the booth closest to the wall where they would be the least disturbed, and Wrecker was introducing Echo to some of their friends. Crosshair, however, was being assaulted by a gaggle of tittering fangirls.
You sighed, taking pity on your boyfriend, and figured you may as well go rescue him.
The crowd had tripled by the time you reached them, and you carefully sheltered your drink. You skirted humans, Twi'leks, and other multitudes of species, trying to make your way to the spot Crosshair had saved for you. a spot a blonde-haired natborn was trying to edge her way into, with long lashes and a ruby-red smile. One of the groupies bumped into you from behind, and your drink splashed all over her. Completely on accident, of course.
She let out a vindictive screech as the alcohol soaked into her dress, and spun on you, seething.
"Watch where you're going!" She screeched.
You blinked. "Uh...sorry? It's really crowded in here."
She rolled her eyes, "Of course it's crowded when people like you are just allowed to run amok."
The toothpick in Crosshair's hand snapped in half, and His brothers looked over in silence as her words hung over the group.
You swallowed, struggling to keep your voice calm.
"Excuse me?"
The groupie rolled her eyes, and one of her friends scoffed.
"I mean, seriously, I've seen your kind before. Staring at the boys all night like some creep. You think you'd honestly have a chance with them?" She sneered.
Wrecker couldn't help it anymore, and let out a boisterous laugh that echoed through the bar for a moment, before the music returned to its usual volume. Some of the groupies took that as permission to titter with giggles at your expense.
Hunter smirked into his glass as he took a sip, and then leaned back into the booth with his partner to enjoy the show.
"Who's gonna tell them?" He asked. His partner grinned back at him mischievously. The question was rhetorical, you all knew who was going to make the situation as clear as a kyber crystal to the groupies.
However, your accuser seemed convinced that Hunter was on their side.
"Yeah," She turned back to you, lips curled back to show off pointed canines, "Who's going to tell you, creep?" She almost jabbed a finger at your chest, but someone grabbed her wrist.
Crosshair had seen enough.
"Not them. You," He snarled, shoving her back. The next second, he had an arm around your waist and pulled you flush against his side.
"They're mine."
The groupie paled. "Y-you mean...?"
"They're your partner?" Her friend squeaked.
Crosshair flicked his toothpick halves at them. He didn't say a word as he swept you over to the booth, and tucked you into the seat beside him, his arm still firmly around your waist and holding you so close you were practically sitting on his lap.
"As far as you are concerned," He slowly met the groupie's embarrassed gaze, "They're my spouse."

Adore You (Crosshair x Pregnant! Reader)
Notes: pregnancy, morning sickness, etc, one suggestive line because it's Crosshair, Soft! Crosshair.
Seeing as I have secured my place as the Bad Batch writer with perpetual baby fever, I figured I needed to give the other boys the same treatment. Crosshair was the first request to be made. @writer1
Mando’a translations:
mesh'la - beautiful
ad'ika - little one, child, small one, etc.
buir - parent, mother/father
ba'vod'u - aunt/uncle
Ni kar'tayl gai sa'ad - "I know your name as my child"
Tumblr media
Crosshair chuckled. "You look better in my clothes than I do."
You flashed him a smile before pulling the collar of his blacks up over your nose, taking in a deep breath of his scent that lingered on his shirt
"Careful, mesh'la," He warned in a low voice, "You do remember how we ended up in this situation, don't you?"
His hands caressed the swell of your stomach, and Baby kicked out vigorously at the touch of its father.
"You're complaining?" you smirked back at him, placing your hands over his. Crosshair couldn't help but smile, and leaned in to press a kiss to your stomach. He turned slightly, his ear against your tummy, and you gently ran your hands through his curls.
"What do you think they're dreaming about?" He murmured.
You pursed your lips for a moment as you thought, "How excited they are to meet their buir."
Crosshair's fingers traced circles on your tummy. "Hurry up, ad'ika, your buir's dying to meet you."
You laughed, and after a moment the kicking slowed down. Baby was tired, and so were you.
Crosshair kissed your belly one more time before he got up, collecting the rags and dirty clothes from your morning sickness.
"Do you need anything to eat?" he asked.
"Not right now," You took a sip from your canteen, falling back into the pillows. GAR-rationed pillows definitely weren't the most comfortable in the galaxy, but with the ad'ika on the way, all the future ba'vod'u had willingly given up a their pillows to build you a veritable throne. It was perfect to rest in when you got too tired, which was all the time.
You woke up about an hour later to Crosshair massaging your swollen ankles.
"Mmm, that feels heavenly," You told him, "thank you."
"Of course, mesh'la." Crosshair crawled up the bed to lay beside you. You lifted your head slightly so he could tuck one arm under your shoulders, and the other returned to its rightful place on your belly.
He was silent, but that wasn't unusual for him. What was unusual was the touching. Crosshair let you touch him far more than anyone else, but since you got pregnant he was scarcely able to keep his hands off of you.
Tech joked that he enjoyed the "package deal", holding you and the baby at the same time. You had broken down crying from how sweet the thought was (thanks hormones), and it took ten minutes to convince Crosshair that you were okay and they were happy tears and Tech hadn't done anything to upset you.
"Do you think they'll like me?" Crosshair asked out of the blue.
You looked at up him. "Who? The baby?"
He nodded.
You snuggled closer, resting your head against his shoulder. "You're their buir, why wouldn't they love you?"

Straight Through My Heart (Sergeant Hunter x Reader)
Notes: Knives, Physical Proximity, Hunter teaches you how to use a knife properly. Y'all can blame @queenquazar for this one. Love ya boo.
Warnings: Steamy, shameless self-indulgence. Let's say T for Teens.
Tumblr media
"Where'd you get this piece of garbage?" Hunter asked all of a sudden. You turned, and you saw him holding the knife you had just bought.
"It was cheap," You shrugged, "And I need a weapon."
Hunter chuckled and shook his head. "This is a Melchi survival knife. It's literally the worst kind you can get." He spun so that he wasn't facing you, and tossed the knife at the target by the door of the Parlor. It just barely skirted the bullseye.
"So it weighs different than your knife."
"No, it weighs the same, but the weight is unevenly distributed. There's no substance in the handle to counterbalance the blade." Hunter waved for you to follow him, and you watched him staring at the knife critically. He gripped the leather-wrapped handle, and instead of pulling it from the wall, he pulled down with all his strength, nearly folding the blade in half before he yanked it out of the wall.
"You ruined it!" You gasped.
"You can have mine." He said quickly. It almost sounded like a joke.
Almost.
Hunter pointed at the different parts of your knife, which now resembled some misshapen corner.
"All knives bend. But if they're made properly, they'll spring back into place." He took his knife and sliced away the leather wrappings. The metal that made up the blade stopped at the handguard, leaving the handle to be made out of crudely polished wood.
Hunter smiled self-righteously. "When the metal goes all the way through the hilt, the knife is more durable and more balanced."
He slipped his knife into your hand, letting you test the weight of it in your palm. It felt almost lighter than air, regardless of how firm the steel was against your fingertip. Hunter slid a finger down the back of the knife, showing you the cutaway section of the knife to prove the metal went all the way down to the hilt. You suppressed a shiver at the sharpness of the blade as you tested your thumb against it.
"I stand corrected, Sergeant," you admitted with wounded pride, "It seems I have much to learn."
Hunter chuckled. "That's what I'm here for, sweetheart. Want a few pointers?"
Your heart beat loudly. You knew how to defend yourself, just not necessarily with a blade as short as Hunter's knife.
"Sure," You shrugged and tossed him his knife, trying to play it off.
Hunter took the leather from your poor excuse of a knife, and carefully wrapped it around the blade for protection.
"When I trained on Kamino, I used a short wooden staff. Just be careful with this," He warned you. His voice was so soft and gentle, you had to nod in compliance.
He smiled, "The first thing you wanna learn, after knowing that you don't hold the sharp end-" He tossed the knife up in the air, catching the blade between his fingertips, "-Is how to keep it balanced."
He demonstrated one of his usual tricks, effortlessly weaving the blade around and in between his fingers fluidly. It hypnotized you like an optical illusion, and you shook your head to make yourself pay attention.
Hunter handed you the hilt of the knife, and you tried to copy what you had seen him do.
He chuckled, shaking his head at your failed attempt. "No, you wanna get your fingers out of the way. If you spin in like that, the uncovered blade will slice your palm open. Move your fingers out of the way, the momentum of the knife will take care of the motions."
You tried again, and the leather-wrapped blade smacked into the palm of your hand. You huffed in frustration.
"Here," Hunter came around behind you, placing his palm on the back of your hand. He lined up his fingers with each of yours, using the lightest of pressure.
"Try slower," He whispered, resting his chin on your opposite shoulder so he could peer around your head to watch your next attempt.
"It's the thumb and the middle finger. Rotate your wrist with the spin so the knife goes under your hand."
With your thumb and middle finger lightly pinched between his fingers and the blade, you gave a little flick with your wrist. Hunter's grip wouldn't let you go too fast, though, and you slowly followed his motions through the twist.

My #1 post of 2022
Hello dear! I have a request for you, so lately I have been having the craziest baby fever, so I was thinking, how are the batches baby fever like? I like to hc that they slowly hint it out for a while until they really want to have a baby 😅
THIS IS THE BEST ASK I HAVE GOTTEN IN THE HISTORY OF MY ASKS
Notes: I focused a lot more on pregnancy than adoption in this one, with an exception for Echo because I really don't know for sure what happened to his body. That being said, adoption is a perfectly viable option even if both parents are able to conceive. If you would like me to write something centered on adoption, feel free to drop an ask!
Warnings: babies, baby fever, pregnancy, labor, morning sickness, infertility, adoption, Couvade Syndrome.
The Bad Batch + Baby Fever (afab Reader)
Tumblr media
First of all, loyalty means everything to the clones, and loyalty means family. They would do anything for their brothers.
They've been kept from so much in their short lives, the idea of having a spouse and kids of their own seems impossible during the war
So once the war is over (in canon or in one where Papa Palps kicks the bucket before Order 66) endless opportunities are suddenly presented to the Bad Batch.
The one that stands out to them is having a family. Having a loyal partner, and having or adopting kids that they can give a better future than they grew up with.
There have been so many things in the galaxy they can't control, but this is one that they can.
Echo:
Echo wants to be a dad SO BAD
Growing up with Domino squad, he always felt so protective of his brothers and when nights on Rishi got long and boring, they'd talk about what their lives would be like after the war.
After Rishi, he felt like he'd lost the opportunity to have that future he'd imagined with his brothers, but at least had Fives to dream of that future with.
Echo needs people. He needs family. He is so glad to have the batch now, and you.
When you start talking about a family, he is really nervous about pressing anything. But you can tell how much he's holding back.
Once you tell him you want to have kids, the dam bursts. He physically cannot keep it in.
He has a list of baby names a mile long. Most are in honor of the many brothers he's interacted with, but he does some looking into traditionally feminine names as well.
Everyone says Tech's the one doing research but Echo is the one who reads operation manuals for fun.
This man has read every parenting book/pamphlet in existence, and has promptly thrown out the ones that aren't helpful.
He will read these parenting helps to you at night, and it does help you fall asleep but Echo keeps pinching you to stay awake because "This is important, Cyare!"
Because of his trauma, you have to get a bit creative. You can adopt, or you can do IVF. His brothers would be happy to help out.
You can't go through any adoption agencies with the Empire on your tail, so most of it is being on the lookout for kids that need help when you're on missions or walking through Mantell City.
"What about that one-" "Her mom is right over there, babe."
Echo will adopt every child in sight. He is just as bad as Hunter.
If you choose to end up getting pregnant, he goes insane. He can't take his eyes off of you. He hates being away from you, and if he can't bask in your presence for >.2 seconds expect lots of calls like "Hi Cyar’ika how are you and the baby doing?? 🥺"
(if you happen to find out that you're having twins he will faint on the spot. And then promptly rearrange his blueprints for the nursery).
Tech:
Tech gets a baby shoved into his arms when they're trying to evacuate a village while it's mother takes another one of her children to safety.
Tech.exe has stopped working.

6 vs 9
Thank you for answering my question on Ni and worrying!
I have debated on 6 vs. 9 before, but I’m pretty sure I’m a 9.
Not sure if you want an answer or not, but why not? I’ve got time. ;)
I do see 6 aspects in myself:
Lots of self-doubt and over-thinking. I take commissions as an artist and usually I’m excited to hear about a new commission but then get worried and think I won’t be able to do it / won’t do a good enough job. <- if you are a 9, this could just be your line to 6 and general anxiousness about doing a good job per your (I assume) 1 wing.
Being indecisive when anxious and wanting someone to tell me what to do/solve my problem. <- Hmm, I haven’t talked to my 9 core friends about this a lot, but I do notice some of them consult me in a “this is happening!!!” way and I give them suggestions on what to do, so… I’d say 9s will consult people they trust if they don’t know what to do. Also, did you decide on INFP? If so, indecisiveness is Ne.
I tend to plan for the worst/expect the worst (but hope for the best). <- Pessimism is a human condition. xD
I don’t project, though - I do worry that people may not like me, but I don’t test them to find out if that is the case and I always blame myself for it (i.e if they don’t like me it must be because I’m boring or weird or not emotionally reactive enough). <- I used to do this way more when I was young. I’d send an e-mail, get anxious if I didn’t get a normal prompt response, comb back over what I said searching for anything that might have upset them, and feel anxious for no reason assuming someone is mad at me. I would send out little feelers to see what was going on – quick texts or notes in a friendly tone to see if that generated a response. Now I just assume, when that anxiousness kicks in, that as adults, we’re all busy. But self-blaming is a condition of Fi, and not related to Enneagram type, IMO.
Also, I don’t provoke people to examine reactions. In fact I hate conflict (the classic “raised voices = yelling” 9 issue is true for me; in 95% of arguments I’m the peacemaker trying to find middle ground between other people). <- with me, it depends. I have zero problems with conflict at home or arguing with my parents / family members, but the less I know you and the less I trust you, the more I don’t want to fight with you. It’s true, though, that I have that bratty 6w7 energy that sometimes provokes to get a rise out of my loved ones, which my mother (a 1w9) absolutely hates. It’s hard to shut off, but I try for her sake. Course my father is quarrelsome too, so we’re like a tempest in a teapot sometimes.
I also don’t see many positive 6 aspects in myself:
The ability/desire to build connections and make a security system. <- Interesting. My security is my bank account and having a few people I can count on. It’s not stalking up my pantry, for sure. *cough * weak Si, like what kinds of foods even go together? *cough* Though I work very hard in my family business so we can all thrive, which is a security of its own.
Being loyal to friends and checking in with them to make sure we’re “okay” (I never do this barring an actual argument or something - mostly I ghost people; loyalty is not my strong suit!) <- This is very true of me. If anyone picks on any of my friends, I will get offended and fiercely defend them (even if I have criticisms of them myself). And I do like to stay connected as an extrovert. But following up what I said above, I don’t try to build super close connections as much as I did when I was younger. I’ve realized people have their own lives, and you’re lucky to get their attention at all. But I don’t ghost people. I used to stay in very immediate contact with them.
I feel very little need to connect with other people. My friends are basically my family and in-laws -  about 10 people who I truly trust and would do anything for. I don’t really want more people-related responsibilities. <- lucky little sp-dom introvert. ;) Though I can somewhat relate. More people means more energy going out, and I spend so much of it on my books and hobbies, I don’t have a lot left over. I was laughing with a fellow sp-dom INFP just yesterday about how we are both like “OMG, I have SOCIAL events in October, 5 of them!! I’m going to be so busy!!! Will it be too much???” Chill, girl. They’re interspersed over weeks. Stop over-thinking “invasions of my time!”
Meanwhile, I have many positive and negative 9 attributes:
The core problem of 9, apathy, is a BIG problem for me. Many problems in my life have been caused by not acting, by waiting too long in hopes that the problem will go away, by riding along on easy work (even if it is work I love and is worth doing) and not doing the hard work that would lead to the achievements I really want to make (writing a novel, etc.). I’m not a lazy/apathetic person in general - I can (and do) work extremely hard (I run my own art business and working 12+ hours a day is typical for me). But it’s a mental apathy issue, the quailing at mentally facing hard tasks and ending up doing small easy things that soothe me. <- aww, tho I relate to procrastinating. Being around 9s, it kind of amuses me to watch you self-soothe. Like, shouldn’t you be studying for your math final and not reorganizing the bathroom cabinets? And it seems like 9s can drag their feet even when it’s important until they decide to do it, then nothing stands in their way.
Other 9 aspects/problems I can see in myself:
Being vague - not knowing what I really want and getting frustrated by not having a clear vision of what to do. <- yeah, that’s 9ish.
Suppressing anger and other “negative” emotions because of seeking inner peace/blankness. And if I do express anger (usually in a burst under stress) I feel guilty about it. <- 1 wing, yeah.
Setting up walls between other people and myself because I can’t deal with their emotions. I don’t struggle with the intense kind of “merging” described by many 9s, but I think that might be because I’m Fi-dom and probably sp-dom. But it is still exhausting to handle the emotions, opinions, etc. of many people for long periods of time. <- I need to ask my 9w8 INFP more about this specifically, but I don’t know that she fully merges so much as prematurely (sp-dom) throws up a barrier and says Nope to things, in hopes of avoiding other people creeping into her feelings. And yeah, she finds being around especially temperamental or high energy people difficult, since it’s such a bombardment of drama + her own intense reactions.
Tolerating behavior I don’t like for too long because “they might have good intentions.” Thinking positively of people because believing the worst of them feels mean. <- same for me, Ne + compliant type issues.
I have very strong opinions but I don’t like to argue with other people. I tend to believe that if the truth exists, other people will be drawn to it without my twisting their arm and making them see it. <- that’s nice of you and very healthy Fi-dom. I … will absolutely argue up to a point, then decide it’s not worth my time and pointless.
My motto (good and bad) is often “Let’s wait and see if things improve.” <- haha.
Also, although I do struggle with 6ish self-doubt, when it comes down to it I trust my gut and believe that I know what is best for myself. People can give me advice and I’ll nod and thank them but inside I’m thinking “You don’t know me!” In general I am (or at least appear and strive to be) a cheerful, emotionally stable, positive person. So… I still think 9 gets more points. But honestly, this is one of those things that makes me believe in tritypes because I relate a lot to both of them! Thank you for reading all of this!
Go with your gut. Be a happy little 9. :)
ETA: Regarding relating to them both -- of course you do, 6 is your stress line, so it will show up regularly. ;)

Untouchable Ch 28: Memoriam (S4E7)
Warnings: mentions of murder and sexual assault to children, discussion of nightmares
Ch 27 | Ch 29
~ ~ ~
Tumblr media
“I had another nightmare,” was the first thing Spencer said when Lydia answered his call the next morning.
They’d had a discussion the night before about what was going on. As Spencer had put it, ‘it didn’t seem like that much of a deal until it affected his work’. Lydia was one to talk about not communicating, so she listened quietly and told him they could try to sort it out more when he got back. He told her he was staying with his mom for that night, which was honestly nice for her to hear. Lydia understood Spencer’s mixed feelings about visiting his mother, so she was glad he was going to get some time that was peaceful.
But now, he was calling her at 5 AM Vegas time, likely from his mom’s room in the hospital. Whatever was going on could not be put off until he got back. “What happened?”
“Same basement, same washer, same shoes and pants, everything. But there was someone standing over the body this time.”
“And did you recognize them?”
There was hesitance on the line. Fear felt like it was a string between their cellphones.
“Yeah, I… Lydia, I think my dad killed Riley Jenkins.”
Fuck. “Spencer, are you…” She cut herself off. Of course he wasn’t sure. But he wouldn’t have told her if he wasn’t fairly suspicious too. “What makes you think so?”
“He was standing over Riley’s body! Something happened to make my mind show me this. My subconscious is trying to tell me something!”
“Okay… That’s okay. How do we fix this?”
“I need to stay in Las Vegas. I just… I have to figure this out.”
“I’ll grab the next flight out,” Lydia replied, matter-of-factly.
“Lydia, you have class-”
“You haven’t spoken to your father in 17 years and you’re going to accuse him of sexually assaulting and stabbing a child? No, sir. Not alone you won’t. My classes will deal. They always do.”
“What if I don’t figure this out? I can’t call you away for some pointless endeavor-”
“Spencer, stop. I’m coming. This is just like any other case. We can’t guarantee we’ll solve it. But isn’t the potential of bringing a murderer to justice worth it?”
“I… Are you sure?”
“I’ll be there soon, love.”
“...thank you.”
~ ~ ~
Lydia rushed through the airport and hopped into a cab, heading straight for the hotel. She was crazy worried about Reid. There was no way to process the idea of someone you love being a murderer. She hoped it wasn’t true, but she didn’t know what would be easier for Spencer to accept. He tried to play it off, but Lydia knew he harbored an anger for the man. It could cloud his judgement.
She gave the hotel room door a solid knock, hoping Spencer would be back from the police department by now to let her in. He had warned her he was going to pick up as much information on the Riley Jenkins case that morning and meet her at his room.
“Hey,” he breathed, upon seeing her face on the other side of the door.
“Hey. Where do we start?” she began stepping inside with him and stopping short to see other people inside. “Rossi, Morgan. I thought you two would be on your way back to DC by now?”
“We didn’t want pretty boy to have to deal with this alone. But it looks like he was already on top of that.”
She gave Morgan a wide smile. “This isn’t exactly my forte. I’m mostly emotional support, so any help Spence can get would be great.”
“You aren’t just emotional support,” Spencer said, already opening the manilla folders he’d collected from the station. “I have a very important job for you.”
“Which is?”
“Interviewing the suspect, of course.”
~ ~ ~
“Riley was six at the time. His father, Lou Jenkins, was supposed to pick him up from T-Ball practice at four. But he got delayed at work, prompting Riley to walk three blocks home. When his mother got home in the early evening, she found him dead in the basement.”
“This sounds like the opening to a word problem,” Lydia muttered, just low enough that Spencer couldn’t hear it.
“So, the offender came to the house after the boy arrived home,” Rossi said.
“Or picked him up on the way there.”
“Coaxes Riley into the basement,” Morgan continued, “when he sexually assaults him.”
“The boy's mouth was taped shut,” Rossi added.
“Symbolic. The unsub fears Riley will talk, panics, weighs his options…”
“Decides to make certain he’ll never talk,” Morgan finished.
Spencer nodded.
Riley had been stabbed 9 times according to the file Lydia had in front of her. The knife belonged to the family’s fishing gear, which was conveniently in the basement.
“So,” Spencer began again, “the unsub’s a white male in his late 20s to early 30s.”
“Means we’re looking for a man in his 50s.”
Morgan confirmed their speculations. “He likely knew the boy. Maybe been to his house.”
“Neighbor,” Rossi suggested.
Lydia had been quiet this whole time. Profiling wasn’t something you picked up just by watching. The theory behind it was complex. But Spencer, at least… Spencer, she knew.
“Spence, what is it?”
His eyebrows were knit together with concentration, flipping between two pages in his hands. Rossi and Morgan looked up from their own files and noticed how stressed he looked.
“My family lived less than a half mile from the Jenkins’,” he admitted.
“You think your dad knew the boy?”
Spencer glanced at Rossi, then began rubbing his temples in thought. “I don’t know. My memory’s lack of recall just reinforces how little I knew about him.”
“Reid, I don’t need to tell you that this signature was need-based and sexual in nature. The man we’re looking for is a pedophile.” With those words, the older man leaned forward, his elbows on his knees. “So, I’ll ask you again. Are you sure you want to go down this road?”
Ignorance is bliss, as the saying goes. Learning your father was a pedophile might unlock some memories that Spencer’s subconscious was trying desperately to hide from him. Most people wouldn’t want to remember that.
But Spencer was Spencer. Lydia couldn’t be one to fault him for that. She’d be desperate to know the same. But then again, she was well aware that she wasn’t the gold standard for self care. So his determination, while not shocking, was disappointing.
…also a part of her was just praying that she wouldn’t have to come head to head with Spencer’s dad.
~ ~ ~
“What did you get, Morgan?” Rossi asked as he picked up the phone. He and Lydia were on their way back from the police station after thoroughly questioning the lead detective on the case. Sadly, they didn’t get much. He was basically recounting what they’d read in the case file.
Morgan, on the other hand, had gone with Spencer to visit his mom and Riley Jenkins’s father. “William Reid works at a law firm in Summerlin. Meet us there.”
“We’re ready to confront him?” Lydia said from the driver’s seat.
“Riley was on the Little League team that William coached. So far, he fits the profile.”
“What did Mr. Jenkins say?”
“He doesn’t think it was him.”
“Thanks, Morgan,” Rossi finished.
As they pulled up to their next red light, Lydia dropped her head onto the steering wheel.
“You seem excited… Green light.”
She sent Rossi a glare and kept driving. “I know how this looks for him. He’s far too emotionally invested. But Spence is brilliant. I don’t doubt that something happened. But then again, if he’s wrong, his father’s first impression of me will be me accusing him of being a pedophile.”
“Do you honestly care what William Reid thinks of you?”
She considered it for a moment. “No… I don’t think so. But what’s ‘too far’ in a situation like this?”
“I think the best you can do for Reid today is be on his side and keep him grounded. He might find out a lot about himself that he doesn’t want to know.”
Lydia nodded, pulling onto the 95. “I’ll always be on his side.”
~ ~ ~
“Can I help you?” the receptionist on Mr. Reid’s floor asked as the four of them entered the office.
“Yeah…” Spencer began, but immediately the rest of his response died in his throat.
It scared Lydia to watch him. His tongue darted around his bottom lip and his eyes dropped to the carpet, trying to find the words. There was no way he was ready to have a civil conversation with his father. Lydia reached down and grabbed his hand to reassure him, but it didn’t look like he felt it, his mouth still open to express his silence.
Rossi took over for him. “We’d like to speak with William Reid.”
“Is he expecting you?” The woman took a moment to tear her eyes from Spence’s unsure face.
Rossi flashed his badge at her. “I don’t think so.”
“He’s in a meeting right now. Why don’t you have a seat and I’ll tell him you’re here.”
Rossi nodded and she walked off, leaving the four of them in a line in front of the main desk.
“You okay?” Morgan asked quietly.
Spencer looked at him with wide eyes and Lydia could hear his uneven breaths. “Yeah… No-- Yeah-- I’m gonna go to the bathroom.”
His hand fell out of hers as he scurried down one of the hallways and out of sight.
“Well, shit,” Lydia mumbled.
“I’ve never seen him like this before,” Morgan admitted.
Rossi shrugged. “Seventeen years is a long time to go between visits.”
“Not long enough. The kid’s still angry.”
“Yeah, I’m starting to get that.”
“Are you going to be able to run point on this?” Morgan turned on Lydia.
“One of us has got to be level-headed,” she said, not turning away from where Spencer disappeared. “I think I can manage it for a day.”
“You from the FBI?” a new voice said, catching all of their attention.
William Reid was a gangly man, like his son, with a pointed nose. Lydia opened her mouth first, wanting to assert control as soon as possible. “Yes, sir. Mr. Reid, I’m Lydia Ambers and these are agents Rossi and Morgan.”
Rossi showed off his badge again, being the only person to have it on hand.
“This wouldn’t be about the city council investigation, would it?” he joked.
“No, this is a personal matter, sir,” she replied, not letting herself hesitate for a minute. “It concerns your son.”
“My son?” His face faltered. “Did something happen?”
“That’s what we’re trying to figure out.” Spencer sounded winded as he rounded the corner and joined them once again. Lydia stared him down, trying to silently ask if he was okay, but his eyes never left his father. “Hello, dad.”
~ ~ ~
William pulled them into his office to have a private discussion. Lydia immediately took the seat opposite him. As she suspected, Spencer didn’t want to sit, so Rossi sat beside her and Morgan hovered behind them.
“You don’t look like me anymore,” William started, looking at his son to his left. “You used to. Everybody said so.”
“They say some people look like their dogs, too. It’s attributed to prolonged mutual exposure. Elderly couples, also. They unconsciously mimic the expressions of people they’ve been around their whole life. So it kind of-- kind of makes sense that I wouldn’t really look like you. I haven’t seen you in twenty years.”
That shut him up. Clearly he felt guilty for ignoring his son for the majority of his life.
...but not guilty enough to fix it.
“Mr. Reid, we’re currently investigating a case we believe you were involved in many years ago. Do you remember a kid by the name of Riley Jenkins?”
The man looked between his son and Lydia. “Of course.”
“I’ve been having dreams about him for a really long time,” Spencer explained. “But recently, the dream changed. I saw his killer and he was you.”
William raised an eyebrow, then calmly said, “Interesting dream.”
“You don’t seem all that surprised,” Morgan noted.
“I stopped being surprised by Spencer’s mind a long time ago.” He tried once more to keep the air light, but Lydia could see the nervousness in his features. At least, he knew where this was going.
“Mr. Reid, you are now on the suspect list for the death of Riley Jenkins.”
“I’m sorry?” he demanded.
“After Spencer looked into his dream, he got the perspective of some uninvolved parties, who agree that you fit parts of the suspect’s profile. It is, as you know, our job to investigate all reasonable theories.”
“You’re not actually saying you think I killed Riley Jenkins?”
“We didn’t say that,” Spencer responded.
“Good, ‘cause that’s absurd.”
“We’d just like permission to look through your computer,” Morgan continued. “Access your records.”
“And what would you be looking for exactly?” Lydia waited for one of her coworkers to answer, but none of them did. “You want access to my files?” His eyes locked onto Spencer’s. “Get a warrant.”
~ ~ ~
“We can’t get a warrant,” Spencer told Garcia as he and Lydia walked back to his hotel room. “We have to go under the radar on this one.”
“You want me to hack your father’s network?” Lydia could hear Garcia say over the line. “You sure about this?”
“I really would wish people would stop asking me that.”
He shut his phone quickly and Lydia was about to say something about the others being concerned for him when he opened the door and they both saw a small, flat package in the doorway.
“‘You’re looking at the wrong guy,’” Spencer read off the front of the folder.
Inside was a file on a man named Gary Brendan Michaels.
“I’ll tell Morgan and Rossi to meet us in the lobby again,” Lydia told him.
~ ~ ~
“Was the envelope dropped off at the front desk first?” Rossi asked as he and Morgan surveyed the mugshots in front of them.
“Nope, it went straight to my room.”
“So they knew what room you were in.”
“I do have to admit, the timing of this is a little suspicious,” Derek stated.
“Yeah. An hour after I see my father, we’re handed another suspect?”
“You think you knew this guy?”
Spencer had told her that he could have sworn this man had played chess with him as a child, but he seemed hesitant to admit it to Rossi. “I don’t know. I-I think so, but I’m not sure. I- No- I don’t know.”
“Exposed himself to a minor. That’s a precursor to molestation.”
“And murder,” Morgan agreed. “We should take a closer look at this guy.”
Seconds later, Derek’s phone went off and he reached down and put it on speaker.
“Yeah, talk to me, baby girl.”
“I’m not interrupting boy time at Crazy Horse Too, am I?”
“I’m right here, Garcia,” Lydia announced.
“Sweetheart! No one told me you were headed to Vegas.”
“Well, it wasn’t for the strip clubs, I can tell you that.”
Lydia could hear the smile in Garcia’s voice as she moved on. “Reid, we’ve been all up in your father’s business.”
“What did you find?” he asked, softly. Lydia would have reached out to hold his hand again, but he instinctively crossed his arms.
“Well, let me tell you first what I did not find. No kiddie porn, no memberships to illicit websites, no dubious emails, no chat room history.”
“What about his finances?”
The voice that answered belonged to Hotch. “We went back ten years. No questionable transactions that we can find.”
“Well,” Prentiss interrupted, “he did buy a ticket to see Celine Dion six months ago, but I think we could overlook that.”
“How many people can you fit into your batcave, Garcia?” Lydia joked.
“Just the two, Sugar.”
“He’s smart,” Spencer said, pulling them back on track. “Is it possible he kept things under the table?”
“Well, of course,” Hotch argued. “But from what we can tell, Reid, he doesn’t fit the profile.”
“We can tell you other things about him, if you wanna know.”
Spencer nodded, before realizing Emily couldn’t see him. “I’m listening,” he swallowed.
“He’s a workaholic, he actually logs more hours than we do. He makes decent money, but he doesn’t spend a lot of it. He has a modest house. He drives a hybrid. He doesn’t travel much. He stays away from the casinos. Um, and according to his veterinary bills, he has a very sick cat.”
Hotch picked up from there. “He appears to spend most of his free time alone, he goes to the movies a lot, and he reads. And from his collection of first editions, it seems his favorite author is-”
“Isaac Asimov,” Spencer answered for him. “I remember that one.”
“He does have one other major interest,” Garcia continued. “On his home computer, he’s archived, like, a kajillion things on one common subject.”
“What?”
“You, kiddo. He’s got, like, everything that’s been published online. Every article you’ve been quoted in,  pieces you’ve written for behavioral science journals, he even has a copy of your dissertation.”
“He’s keeping tabs on you,” Rossi noted. “That’s saying something.”
“Yeah, that he googled me,” Spencer snapped. “That makes up for everything. I’m gonna get some air.”
Both men looked at Lydia as her boyfriend stormed off into the casino.
She rolled her eyes. “Let’s give him a minute to cool down, shall we?”
“I thought we were giving him good news,” Garcia sighed, disappointed.
“What else can we do?” Hotch asked.
“Look up a name for us, if you would,” Morgan said into his phone. “Gary Brendan Michaels.”
“You like this Gary guy for the Riley murder?”
“Somebody does.”
~ ~ ~
Lydia was lucky that Spencer didn’t exactly blend in with the casino scenery. She made a beeline for the poker games and got a glimpse of his back at a 5-card draw machine. When she got over there, a woman with a martini glass was leaning over his shoulder, talking to him.
Lydia wasn’t the jealous type, seeing as this was Spencer she was dating, so she found it funny that he’d attracted a prostitute in the 5 minutes she’d been gone.
“...if you employ optimal strategy and always draw for the royal flush, you can push those odds to 2%.”
“Hm,” she nodded, intrigued. “Smart and handsome.”
Lydia saw his eyebrows shoot up into his hairline, probably just now realizing who he was talking to, so she decided to step in on his behalf. “Sorry, honey. He’s a bit too clueless to be a good target.”
“Lydia!” Spencer exclaimed. The woman looked between them and gracefully walked off to find someone else. “I wasn’t-”
She laughed. “I got you, Spence. We’ve got more important things to worry about. How are you feeling?”
“Something’s wrong,” he argued. “I can’t just ignore the signs my brain is sending me.”
“We’re not ignoring them. But there are so many ways to interpret a dream. Don’t you think our first job should be finding out what happened to Riley? Your dad doesn’t fit the profile of a pedophile, but he could still be involved. I promise you, Spencer, you’re not going crazy. Just keep trusting your gut and we’ll get somewhere.”
A small smile pulled at his lips as he considered this. “I don’t tell you I love you enough.”
“Don’t worry-” She leaned down and gave him a peck on the lips. “-I know.”
“You two are annoyingly perfect for each other,” Derek said, appearing with Rossi. “So, what’s our next move?”
“Getting out of this casino, for one,” Lydia grumbled. “The overpowering smell of smoke is making my head hurt.”
Rossi nodded. “Reminder of all the people victim to cigarettes.”
“You know,” Spencer began, following the rest of the group back to the lobby, “recently, there’s been a lot of success in…”
Lydia raised an eyebrow, trying to figure out what had just grabbed Spencer’s attention. She knew he wouldn’t have stopped his tangent willingly. “What?”
“Hypnosis.”
~ ~ ~
“What did the detective say?” Lydia asked as Spencer hopped back into the car.
“We get 24 hours to question him.”
“And Morgan?” she continued, noticing he had not followed Spence out of the police station.
“He’s talking to Garcia about Gary Michaels.”
Lydia took a breath. “You… didn’t want to learn more about Michaels before taking in your dad?”
“You don’t think I can be objective either,” he huffed.
“You were never going to be able to be objective on this,” she argued. “That’s what we’re here for. To help you keep an open mind.”
“I saw him burning bloody clothes!” Spencer finally shouted.
He’d repeated those same words multiple times after his visit to the hypnotherapist. The woman had warned him that his memory could be distorted by the case, but Spencer was certain this had happened.
“Okay.” Lydia’s voice was much softer now, though she wasn’t sure if it was an attempt to comfort him or if she was genuinely startled by his reaction. “Then I want you to listen to one more thing before we take your father into custody. Watching your father go to prison, even if you are pissed at him, isn’t as cathartic as you think.”
“If he did something, he deserves to be brought to justice,” Spencer snapped, though he was much tamer now.
Lydia was glad to see Morgan climbing into the backseat, seeing as she couldn’t find much to respond to that. “Gary Michaels disappeared soon after the Riley murder. Luckily, we’ve got some DNA that Garcia’s running through ViCAP to see if he’s offended under a different name.”
“Good,” Lydia replied.
Spencer shot her a glare. “Let’s go.”
~ ~ ~
Lydia dressed up slightly to interrogate William Reid. As Morgan had told her, they wanted him on his toes, so she needed to look like a strong authority figure.
...which she wasn’t.
“Mr. Reid, good to see you again.”
“Where’s my son?” he demanded.
“Dr. Reid is busy at the moment. We consider accusing a family member of murder as a conflict of interest.”
“This isn’t an FBI case and the normal rules don’t apply,” he argued. “I want to speak to my son.”
“Mr. Reid, your son has come forward as witness to you burning bloody clothing soon after the Riley murder. Do you deny this event happening?”
“I want council.”
Lydia could feel the word ‘fuck’ burning behind her eyelids. Lawyers getting involved was… difficult to say the least.
Luckily, she didn’t have to deal with that. As she opened her mouth, the door clicked open behind her.
“It’s a simple question,” Spencer said. “How did the blood get on the clothes?”
“I told you, I’m not going to talk without council.”
“If you don’t have anything to hide, you don’t need a lawyer.” Lydia could feel Spencer leaning threateningly above her.
“Spencer, please. I’m not stupid… I’m proud of you, you know that?”
“I’m not stupid either.”
Seeing that she wasn’t getting anywhere, Lydia left him to his questioning and joined Rossi and Morgan behind the glass.
“Good try,” Derek told her. “This is too personal for them, there was no way they weren’t going to confront each other.”
“I just want to help him, Derek.”
“I know, kiddo.”
“Like you said, I do have special talents,” Spencer was saying across the glass. “And one of them is being able to tell when somebody’s hiding something.”
“You’re angry that I left. And you have a right to be.”
“You want to make it up to me? Tell me the truth.”
Lydia knew from his face and his silence that William was considering it. “I didn’t kill that boy… But I know who did.”
“Gary Michaels?”
His demeanor dropped immediately. “How’d you know that?”
“William Reid knows about Michaels?” Lydia murmured.
“So does Detective Hyde,” Rossi informed her. “We’re pretty sure he’s the one who put that file underneath Reid’s door.”
“Great.” Her voice dripped with sarcasm. “We love a reliable justice system.”
~ ~ ~
“How’s Spencer?”
“We’re on our way back from California,” was all Morgan said. It was possible that Spencer was with him, but Lydia figured Derek just didn’t want to answer the question. “There was a fingerprint on Gary Michaels glasses that didn’t belong to him.”
Hotch had called to let them know that Gary Michaels’s DNA had been identified on a body found 7 years ago just across the state line. He’d been beaten to death with a blunt object. So the boys went to speak to the California detectives. And now Spencer was convinced that his father had murdered Michaels instead of Riley.
“Let me know what they find.”
“We’ll likely be back at the Fountain View before then.”
“I’ll meet you in the lobby, then.”
“Oh! And I just got word that JJ has gone into labor.”
Lydia blinked at the news, trying to do some quick math in her head. “Really? She wasn’t due for like… two to three weeks, wasn’t she?”
“Yeah, she was surprised, too. But the whole team is at the hospital.”
“Let’s wrap this up soon then, shall we?”
“Sure thing, kiddo.”
~ ~ ~
Spencer’s leg bounced at an unbelievably fast rate. Lydia could tell he hadn’t even noticed it.
When Derek’s phone began ringing, he looked at the name, then to Spencer. Last chance to go back. To not know if his father was a murderer.
Spencer chose the truth.
“Yeah, this is Agent Morgan… You did?... You’re 100% certain?... Ok. Thank you.” Spencer stood up, his fingers slipping from Lydia’s grasp, his eyes begging for answers. “We’re going to have to get an arrest warrant.”
Lydia’s heart leapt to her throat. It was a painful feeling. She hoped that Spencer felt vindicated, for his own sake, but there was no way this wouldn’t haunt him for years to come.
“It was a match?”
“Yeah,” Morgan breathed. “But it wasn’t your dad.”
~ ~ ~
Lou Jenkins looked up at her curiously as Lydia entered the interrogation room. Spencer followed him in, but didn’t say anything for a while.
“Mr. Jenkins, I am sorry for your son's death. Such traumatic news cannot be easy to recover from.”
“You didn’t bring me here to talk about my son.”
“I imagine the two situations are related.”
He glared at her. “Get on with it.”
“Did you kill Gary Michaels?” she asked, softly.
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“He raped and murdered my son.”
“What proof did you have of that claim, Mr. Jenkins?”
“He admitted it to me.”
“When? Did he approach you-?”
“No. No, he admitted it after accusation.”
Lydia swallowed. “Mr. Jenkins,” she hesitated, “you were threatening to kill him. It is possible that he admitted to something he didn’t do out of fear. What made you approach him in the first place?”
“He approached another kid in the neighborhood.”
“How do you know that?”
“I was told by a concerned party.”
“Who? Another parent?”
Lou crossed his arms. “That’s all I’m going to say on the subject.”
Lydia tried to consider his motivations. He was clearly not telling them something. But what was the harm in naming the person who came forward unless they were a party to the murder?
“Who was it?” Spencer demanded before she could speak her own mind.
“I told you, that’s all I’m going to say on the-”
“Who was it?” he tried again, more forcefully.
Lydia looked up at her boyfriend, trying to calm him, but his attention was driven away from the both of them as Detective Hyde walked in. “Agent Reid?”
He spun around, pointing at the man threateningly. “Do not interfere with this interrogation, detective! This is not your case anymore.”
Lydia unconsciously reached forward and put her hand up against Spencer’s back, watching him lose his patience. He was angry. No one would give him what he needed so desperately to know. Until his mother stepped around the detective.
“Spencer, it was me,” she told him nervously.
Lydia leaned forward to see Will Reid standing beside her as well. She’d never seen Spencer’s parents together, and understandably, he was a bit surprised to see it as well. His eyes flitted from them, to the detective, to Lou, to her.
He was overwhelmed. His eyes read to her like a book of the truth that had been haunting him for years. His desperation had been growing. But if only it had been his father, he could have been relieved by the news. He didn’t want to consider his mom a murderer.
Silently, he reached around to grab the palm she had placed on his back, gave it a quick squeeze between both of his hands, and followed his parents out of the room.
~ ~ ~
By the time Lydia had gotten a signed confession from Lou, Spencer had come back. He explained to her his mother’s story. How she’d gone to Lou after she saw the way Gary Michaels was looking at him. How, after identifying Michaels, Lou followed him home and killed him. And how his mother had walked onto the scene and, horrified, slipped in Michaels’s blood.
Lou and William had agreed to keep Diana out of it, if Lou ever got caught. They didn’t want her implicated for something she had no capacity to prevent. And upon learning what had happened, William immediately set to burning Diana’s soiled clothing, a scene that poor Spencer had happened upon, which caused unrest in his mind for many years following.
“I’m so sorry if this is not how you planned this trip to go-”
“Spencer!” she laughed. “We solved the case! That’s all that needed to happen. The family drama I could have done without, yeah? Are you satisfied with your truth?”
He thought about it only momentarily. “Very. It had been weighing on me for quite some time.”
“Good. Now, if you don’t mind, I’m going to try and get into your dad’s good graces, because we could use a rich family member between us.”
Spencer rolled his eyes, but still couldn’t hide his smile as she skipped away towards where his parents were still speaking.
Morgan, seeing this as the perfect opportunity to throw Spencer a huge ‘I-told-you-so’, approached him, but couldn’t formulate the words before Spencer said something so out of character and… frankly, just exciting, that Derek was stunned into silence.
“I’m going to marry that girl.”

59.) “You’re lying.” “That makes two of us
60.)” Well, this is awkward.”
61.) I uh, think I might be pregnant.”
62.) “Do you want me to kill somebody for you?”

64.) Prove it to me. Prove to me this world would be better without you. ‘Cuz it won’t. Let me show you how much you mean to me. To us. Just please, get down from there.”
65.) “Let me help you cook before you burn down my house.”
66.) “I’m not scared of you. You’re like a little puppy!”
67.) “I want you to come with me, not anyone else.”
68.) “Do you know each other?”
69.)   “I hate you.” “I know. But you need me.”
70.) “Isn’t it a beautiful day to create some chaos?”
71.) “I’m not drunk enough for this.”
72.) “Welcome to Vampire 101. Don’t get caught by hunters.”
73.) “Please don’t hurt them! They’ve done nothing wrong!”
74.) “I’m doing the best I can! I don’t know how to drive!”
75.) “I heard screaming, are you okay?”
76.) “Hey! Are you telling me I’m bad at my job!”
77.) “I really don’t care.”
78.) “I can’t remember. I wish I could.”

80.) “Hey, I can’t find the scissors, can we use your claws?”
81.) "Minutes. We only have minutes till it's too late.

5 minutes encounter with …… (…… X MC)
Chapter 9
I was walking in a fast pace across the parking lot.
It was early in the morning so no-
Well, it was nobody a few seconds ago until…
He showed up, walking casually beside me. He obviously has no problem to beat me even by walking.
I mean, it’s not a competition…
Well, what can I say… tall people.
However, I just continued walking and tried to act as if nothing had changed within my emotions.
Looking on my wristwatch it’s already been more than 5 minutes.
How is he still here?
I sighed.
“How are you still here?”
“Have you not noticed that your ‘interview session’ with me took a lot more of my time?”
Emphasizing the ‘interview session’... as if.
I wouldn’t say it that way actually... It’s quite the opposite if he was gonna use the word.
It was me who asked him the questions, not all of it...
So, matter of fact... wouldn’t it be me as the interviewer instead?
However, I don’t think that issue is important at the moment.
“Well yeah, but didn’t you stopped time?”
“….”
He didn’t reply back and just casually followed me walking towards my office room.
“Fine, maybe you can help me with my case or something…”
Moments later a co-worker of mine approached us and smiled at me before looking at the guy next to me.
Oh… no. They can definitely see him. I forgot about that…
Unexpectedly, he just casually nods as a formal greeting.
Well, that went well as my co-worker nods back at him.
A man to man greeting indeed…
After the slight encounter we continued on walking in to my office room.
My office room was quite big… let’s just say I got talents in my job.
“Not bad”
As he exclaimed while casually taking the seat in front of my desk.
I beamed a smile at him before taking the opposite seat.
He suddenly held out a hand at me, showing his fair left palm.
I looked at him in confusion.
I have no idea by what he meant by that??
“What?”
I questioned, slightly frowning.
“Give me your hand.”
He demands with no expression on his face.
That ain’t good…
At some point, I can’t keep up with whatever he’s thinking.
Arguing with him isn’t the best solution either...
“Are you going to pay me a million for giving my hand to you?”
I nonchalantly asked him back.
He sighed before replying me.
“Sure, whatever you want.”
He faintly smiled afterwards.
“But I actually have schedules to follow today. You know, I’m a busy woman”
He ‘tsk’ at my words before extending out his hand even closer to me.
I sighed before actually placing my left hand on his right hand.
He smiled before lightly squeezing my hand between his slender long fingers.
Suddenly, before I can even blink or react we were already standing somewhere else.
I gasped in shocked as I curiously looked at my surroundings.
To be honest, I’d be already in chaos if he wasn’t the first person I saw.
But because he was there, just the same position as before when we were still in my office…. I instantly calmed myself down.
“Why did you bring me here?”
He didn’t reply but instead held my hand even tighter than before. It was as if assuring me that everything is fine.
Silently, I followed him as we walked towards a gravestone. It was nearby an average sized tree where its shadow almost covered the sunlight from touching that one particular gravestone.
I thought maybe, he just needs someone to rely on… or maybe-
My thoughts instantly stopped as I finally focused on the name beautifully engraved on it. The moment I finally realized it-
But it can’t be?!
I re-read the name. Over and over again before finally tries to calm myself assuming that it must’ve been a coincidence.
It’s just a name.
Nothing to be worried about.
Right?
Slowly, I turned my head towards him.
The sunlight shone across his side profile was bright enough for me to see a single tear escaped his eyes right after he blinked as he finally turned his head towards me.
He wasn’t showing any emotions but his eyes.
Those two beautiful eyes weren’t lying.
His eyes show nothing but grieve and sadness.
I blinked unable to actually do whatever other people would usually do… I wasn’t capable of anything to comfort someone. All I know is that they need it but I guess… I’m just not the right person…
”So, how did she died?”
He chuckled as I mentally slapped myself. I definitely asked the wrong question. That was the least comforting….
“Car accident.”
“Oh. I’m sorry for the lost.”
Then, we stayed silent again as I looked at the gravestone again.
I couldn’t keep up a conversation with him.
“I tried turning back time but fate can’t be undone”
I nodded, now fully aware of his Time Evol. As what he called it that day.
I didn’t want to trouble him with more question while he’s in this condition and yet again I stayed silent.
“But you said before that you already rewind time to save me again?”
I can’t keep the question inside my head as I finally blurted out the question after some moments of silent.
“True, but not in my world. The timeline I’m from. Your world is different”
What did he just said?!
‘His world’
Am I-
Did he just-
But I quickly calmed myself before questioning the ‘more’ important part.
“So, that’s basically me?”
I quickly turned my head towards him but didn’t fail to show how calm I am about it.
Even though... I’m not.
He nods while his gaze stays on the gravestone.
“Like me, me?? Same me? Everything?”
“Yes.”
His eyes are now on me.
“and doesn’t that mean that there’s another you in my own timeline?”
“True”
He nods as his bangs slightly covering his eyes caused by the quick head motion.
I was about to asked him another question when he suddenly held out his hand at me once again.
Indicating that he was gonna take me to somewhere again.
“Wait, you’re not going to put some flowers or something?”
He smiled.
“Right…”
I blinked, was he-
Did he just leave me here?!
He suddenly disappeared… I’m so gonna-
Before I could even think, he was back again but was now placing a bouquet of roses near the gravestone.
I just silently watched him until he was now walking his way towards me.
He held out his hand again to me and I just casually placed my hand on his.
With that, I was yet again somewhere else.
I looked around to my new surrounding as he leads me to another chair almost similar to mine but of course looking more expensive.
“Wait here.”
He exclaimed before walking himself towards an intercom near the table.
As he did so, I was already looking through the capacious room. But it’s an office room to be specific.
“Goldman, send me the statistics for the week.”
He seems to be talking about business matters. I totally have no idea within this area of job.
Wait.
Does that mean, he is in this field of job?
Probably under some main unit here in this huge company.
I wonder what unit he’s in? Maybe the stock management, company accountant??
Not bad himself. He got a decent job too.
“Give me 10 minutes.”
He exclaimed to me before taking the seat right next to the huge desk.
I nodded as I constantly observed him as he quickly typed in loads of words on his computer.
Suddenly, a knock came from the main door.
“Come in.”
He said in an monotonous voice without even looking at the person who just walks in.
“Sir, this requires your signature”
He totally has a high rank here. I don’t doubt that.
The man wearing thick rectangular spectacles carefully placed the few stacks of paper on his neat, clear desk as he quickly motioned where it should be placed.
As the man was about to walk out of the room he was stopped.
“The statistics shows a clear 1% decrease. Make it higher by 95% before next week”
“Right away, Sir”
The man turned to face him before exclaiming back.
“Also, the other 3 candidates out of 10 is not performing well. Reject them.”
The man in front nods.
I observed them as he casually demands almost everything to the man who’s standing.
I mean it was bad to bully your co-worker, but is he even his co-worker? Doesn’t seem like it.
I find it’s rather amusing to see them conversing between each other.
It was as if, a King was talking with a commoner.
Now, I wonder who was the ‘me’ in this timeline before. How did they even meet with each other? That would be hilarious to know about.
I smiled while heavily in thought.
“What are you thinking now?”
He asked, looking at me me sideways and was now already in front of me. He was already extending his hands for me to hold.
What 10 minutes was over?!
Oh. That was quick.
“Nothing much, I just thought of another increase in the price for giving you my hand…”
I smiled mischievously.
He casually shook his head sideways with a sigh.
“What? Are you gonna add a Lamborghini?”
“Yes. I knew you know about that”
I beamed a smile at him again.
“You have my word”
He casually replied back without even the slight annoyance within.
I slightly laughed in satisfaction before I finally held on to his hand.
Once again, it’s the third time now. I’m yet again in another new place.
This time, assuming from the many tables around it seems to be in a restaurant.
“Welcome back Sir”
A person spoke from behind as I turned my head towards the voice.
It was an older man. Looking from his uniforms, he’s definitely the waiter here.
“MC, just follow him and I’ll be back in 15 minutes”
He reassured me to follow the waiter as he motions his hand to the waiter and he quickly walks his way towards another nearby door.
“Wait-“
I frowned, he was already out of sight.
“Please do follow me Miss”
The waiter leads the way towards a staircase.
Oh no… Why do I have to be here anyways?
I’d rather go with him to wherever that 15 minute is….
The waiter slowly leads me to the rooftop. The rooftop was covered by beautifully decorated canopy to cover us from the sun.
There were a few sets of tables up here too. Every tables were also beautifully decorated and was seemingly more beautiful than the ones on the ground level.
“Choose whichever tables you want Miss”
He exclaimed to me with a smile.
I nodded back and also smiled politely to him.
Slowly, I walked towards a nearby table where it shows almost the whole surrounding of the place.
I just casually took the seat as the waiter bows and walks his way downstairs.
Well, another 14 minutes then as I casually placed back my hand on the table after looking at my wristwatch.
I slowly leaned on to the comfortable chair and was about to open my coat but then I noticed that my phone was with me all along. It was inside my coat’s pocket.
After neatly folding my coat and placing it on the table, I finally opened my phone.
Nothing was wrong with it of course.
I smiled and clicked the camera icon.
But then frowned because there was nothing shown on screen. Just pure blackness.
I checked the other apps, even the apps that require internet connection… It works totally fine.
Well, maybe my camera went wrong because of travelling here?
Nevermind, I’ll add that in the ‘price’.
I smiled again thinking about what I’m thinking right now.
As my thoughts went on thinking, I also observed the people who are walking on the nearby streets.
This city looks totally similar as the city I was used to. As how much I have been walking myself in those streets, certainly something had changed. However, I have never seen this restaurant in my timeline before.
Perhaps, it’s something new?
“Careful…”
A voice suddenly said before I could even react.
Knowing it was him, I quickly placed my coat on my lap to give space for the plates.
“Thanks...”
I leaned on the chair as he arranged the few plates on the table.
I thought the waiter was the one who was gonna do that?
Probably, he just wanna be fast about it… because he kept on disappearing and appearing a few times before finally taking the seat opposite mine.
I wanted to ask him a question again but he looks super ‘wanna take a break’ from what I’ve seen the way he’s sipping that drink.
“What is it?”
He questioned me instead as I was about to take hold of my prepared drink on the table.
I probably stared too much?...
“You cooked this within 15 minutes?”
“Why, you wanna eat something else?”
“No.” I resumed on taking a sip of the drink. It was fresh orange juice.
Can’t he just say that he was the one who cooks this?
He nods and swiftly placed his drink on the table.
“Well then, it’s on me”
I just nodded and carefully taking the prepared spoon and forks.
We then started to eat the food in silence.
I noticed that he wasn’t much of a talker himself.
How did they even start a conversation in the first place then?
My thoughts were yet again on about the ‘Me’ from this timeline with this ‘almost expressionless’ guy. How hilarious…
__________________________________________
“You done?”
He questioned me, obviously both of our plates were empty now.
“Yeah”
I said with a nod.
“This restaurant’s name is Souvenir and-“
“and you owned both this restaurant and the company. Isn’t that right Mr. CEO?”
I confidently stated it out.
He faintly smiled.
“How come there’s no company building that tall exist in my timeline? I’m sure that’s your building right there.”
As I pointed my index finger towards the huge, tall building just distance away.
“Hmm… I’m sure we’ll be rivals if you take in your father’s company.”
He casually exclaimed back.
Right, my dad’s company was just on the east side of the city. I could even see the company’s brand shining on sight.
I couldn’t possibly meet my parents in this timeline right. It could’ve been shocking…
“I’m sure, if I were… I’ll have higher income than you”
I remarked back, slightly laughing about the thought.
Indeed, I was supposed to be the heir of the whole company but I just had take the job I have now just to do it for someone dear to me. I made a promise to myself and-
Wait.
That thought, suddenly made me realized something…
I blinked… trying to make words out of my emotional thoughts.
“MC… What’s the matter?”
He quickly stands up from his chair and walks up towards me.
I blinked again and finally realizing that tears were streaming down my cheeks.
I was crying even when I was just thinking about it.
“No, I- I just thought about something…”
He takes the chair right next to mine as I turned half of my body to face him.
“Is everything here an exact copy from the world I came from?”
He blinks seemingly worried about the state I’m in.
“Not all, but some are…”

5Ds Review
Wooo... another Yugioh down, just 2 more to go on this challenge... (yeah, just a reminder that V//r//ains will not be included in this challenge).
This one I was very excited to get to rewatch... at first. I’d only seen this once before all the way through, and halfway through I remembered... that I only actually really enjoyed about half this show. My last attempt at rewatching this show failed completely (yes, I admit that I abandoned ship as soon as I hit about the halfway mark... or even a little less), but this time, by some fucking stubborn as hell and definitely worn out miracle, I succeeded. Barely. But I did it. I may have... lagged it a bit here or there (even worse than when I watched GX, surprisingly), but I finished right on schedule.
And right on schedule, here’s my honest review of what, for a short period of time back in like mid-2014, used to be my favorite Yugioh spin-off:
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds.
(Note: Before you skip through all this and just scroll to the bottom to read my final rating of this show, just know my breakdown, because I tried to be the nicest reviewer I could when reviewing this, for the sake of... idk, my sanity, or whatever. The breakdown I chose is:
1. Season 1 2. Season 2:
a. filler episodes b. Crash Town     i. Bonds Beyond Time (BBT) c. WRGP + Ark Cradle d. Finale
Why in the hell am I making this so complicated this time?! Reasons. Reasons to be discussed...
And don’t worry, as always, I’ll do my best to keep it short and just my overall thoughts.)
Season 1 - Fortune Cup + Dark Signers (Episodes 1 - 64):
We start off with something that’s very promising and fast. I don’t necessarily mean “fast-paced”, per say— the show, at least right here, doesn’t seem to struggle with pacing much at all— rather, 5Ds exudes the sort of energy that it’s set a course and it knows how to get there. Where is it going? It doesn’t know yet and it doesn’t care, and honestly in this first Season, that’s completely fine because it knows how to make each pit stop into a memorable detour worth paying attention to. It doesn’t waste your time, is what I want to say.
The first leg of the Season, the Fortune Cup arc, does a great job establishing its main cast and their reasons for being involved in this dystopian mess of plot. Regarding said dystopian mess, rest assured that the show’s world is pretty well established within the first few episodes, so world building is not an issue either. It’s already going pretty great, and then we’re gifted with the excellent Dark Signers second leg which builds on character’s backgrounds, establishes relationships even further, and raises the stakes just enough that things actually matter. That’s right. Consequence finds its way back to Yugioh... or is it introduced into it, actually? It’s been so long since we’ve had some consequence in Yugioh and yet its existence is so fleeting, as we soon realize, right at the end of this arc.
It’s something to get used to for the next... a while.
Regardless, Season 1 of 5Ds is without a doubt an enjoyable watch with some solid presentation (for the most part). It’s something that’s an incredible breath of fresh air for this anime franchise. Though perhaps a short one...
Overall rating for this arc: 4/5 - very good, but still lacking on that much sought after umph that we crave from a lot of shows, an element we’ll keep missing in this franchise for a good while...
Season 2 (Episodes 65 - 154):
Tumblr media
Here comes... this. Mess. If you;re getting the impression by now that I’ve been procrastinating talking about this, you’re right. I’m going to go pretty fast on this... or ‘least I’ll try...
a. Filler Episodes (Episodes 65 - 85):
Although, yes, we are indeed introduced to a “new threat” this season, we spend the majority of the time these 20 episodes exploring the daily lives of the 5Ds cast and crew, introducing new (95% useless) side characters left and right. At first you might think, You know what this is kinda fun, but actually you are wrong. The only episode in here that anyone ever remembers is that one where Yusei and Aki go on a roller skating date. Because it’s cute. But superficial. None of these episodes carry much weight at all, perhaps baring, like, those two or three episodes that introduce Sherry and, later, Bruno. But otherwise? None of this matters. Harmless tho? Mostly.
Season 2a rating: 1.7/5
b. Crash Town (Episodes 86 - 92)
“Wait, I watched this show and these episodes were also filler, what gives?!” You’re absolutely right, my friend. But you’ve forgotten one thing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That’s right. Yusei’s classy ass.
No, but in all seriousness though, Crash Town offers some weird, old-western-style fever dream. It’s ridiculous; It has nothing to do with 5Ds at all. It’s like the producers decided to just drop us in an AU without warning, and honestly? It’s not terrible.
Season 2b rating: 2.8/5
i. Bonds Beyond Time (BBT - movie)
So this movie was canon to 5Ds, but was it 5Ds? No. As such, I won’t rate or review it here, but I’ll admit it’s not not a fun time for a fanservice movie. Is it of good quality, though? Not really, aside from its presentation. Do I have to mention that it’s canonically a part of this show? Yes. Do you miss out on anything important later on if you skip it? Aside from a small mention of its antagonist’s existence in one line of 5Ds’ climax later on, nope.
c. WRGP + Ark Cradle (Episodes 93 - 153):
*Sighs groaningly infinitely*.
This leg of Season 2 is, easily, the worst part of this entire show.
Before I continue, I need to mention that, as you might have guessed by now, the show has resorted to talking endlessly and vaguely about “destiny” and “zetsubouuuu” in place of its original, wholesome themes relating to self-worth and the intricacies of the relationships between people called “bonds”. But I’m sure that was a given by now; hopefully I didn’t have to clarify that.
The WRGP and Ark Cradle comprise a total of sixty-one (61) episodes and a shit ton of duels, but only exactly one (1) of those duels is decent-good (and it’s still very skippable. I know. Because even though I remembered I liked it the first time I ever watched this show, I decided it wasn’t worth it and still just skimmed it, much like I did for most of this Season).
The WRGP itself is an incredible drag to watch through. The pre-duels are cluttered with unnecessary exposition, Yusei becomes the only useful character through the end of the show, we’re met with uncharismatic and unoriginal teams characters that make Doma’s goons from DM Season 4 seem interesting in comparison. Every duel goes pretty much the same: Team 5Ds is losing... until Yusei takes the reigns and wins for them... again.
Of course I won’t forget that the main group of antagonists don’t ever use a lick of logic, and their plot unveils always resort to a mix of shock and un-awe, recounting “oh woe is me” tales that not a single person could ever care for, much less remember, all for the sake of “justice, destiny, and redemption”. All of which falls flatter than if this show was called YuGiOh 1D.
Lastly, I will absolutely not end this portion of the review by not reminding everyone that, no matter what they say about that-one-spinoff, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds had, unarguably, the worst plot twist of all time *mic drop*. That’s a fact, not an opinion. This is my review, not yours.
Season 2c rating: 0.4/5 - I’d rather watch GX Season 4 than this because at least that one ended quicker.
d. Finale (Episode 154):
I won’t waste any more of your time here, I’ll just straight up say it: This episode, directed by the series’ original director (who had been absent since the end of Season 1, mind you *cough*), was, as they say, pretty damn good and had me feeling a tinge of that emotional umphness, but only just a tease. It exudes actual care for the cast of this show, something that hadn’t held its presence in this show for an unfortunate amount of time. It’s a satisfying ending and leaves us without a doubt in our minds that these characters will go on to continue meaningful and fulfilling lives. A gentle, but firm send off. Nice.
Season 2d rating: 4.6/5 - wonderful ending, irked only by the distasteful amount crap preceded by it.
Season 2 overall rating: 2.375
Final Thoughts: Right, I usually add on something after I give my final overall rating, but before I do that, I just wanna say this: people talk about wasted potential all the time, but confuse nostalgic presence with excellence. What I mean by that is, this show had all the major markings of a narrative that conveyed meaning, and yet that got terribly lost along the way. The Finale brought it back up, reminding us why these characters were so endearing and why we bothered to stick through it all with them to the end, despite distasteful ventures. It took a few creative twists at first— in approach, most notably, throwing us into the action before building up its world and characters, and it paid off early on— but the obvious shift in direction less than midway through the series did not pan out well for it overall. Instead, 5Ds left us with a satisfying ending, sure, but about 2/3rds of its journey was just crashing and burning, and we just sat there feeling the bruises of the characters we watched, urging them to just get to the finish line already so we never have to experience this sadly mediocre trip ever again.
Final Overall Rating: 3.2/5.

I was tagged by @novemberhush which is great because I love to talk about myself. It’s a problem sometimes at work, but it’s great for when I’m in therapy and doing memes on the internet!
Rules: answer 15 questions and then tag 15 people
1) Are you named after anyone?
Kind of. So my name is Emily. My mom had a cat named Emma - my biological father (who was not a good man) was jealous of the cat, and, long story short, Mom did not have a cat because of this asshole. So she named me Emily because she liked the name. I’m essentially named after her favorite pet. My middle name is Marie, it’s a family name - the last person who had it before me was my Great Aunt Marie, and she was, I’m told, the kind of woman who would take no shit and no prisoners. My mother told me it’s a very fitting middle name for me.
That said, please, please, please don’t call me Emily. Em is okay, I go by that in real life, but I actually prefer Eli or Ely most of the time.
2) When was the last time you cried?
Shit, son, I cry at the drop of a hat. Probably a couple days ago? I’m a frustration crier and a happy crier and a oh-shit-I-dropped-my-fork-again crier, so it just... doesn’t really register anymore.
3) Do you have kids?
No. I work in a daycare, specifically the infant room. I love it, but personally, I don’t feel like kids are currently in the plan. This may change - I love children, but right now I don’t trust anyone enough to share a child with them, nor am I financially or mentally stable enough to raise one.
I am, however, extremely maternal, so I will probably eventually have one. Just one.
4) Do you use sarcasm a lot?
Mmm, kind of? I don’t suffer fools gladly, which is sometimes a problem because my mouth moves before my brain catches up. I don’t use sarcasm in a mean or mocking way with people who don’t know any better - I will exaggerate it to use it with children so they know, without a doubt, that it’s sarcasm and a joke. Adults who should know better than to do ridiculous things, though, are fair game.
Take, for example, the woman who told me I didn’t dress professionally enough in the infant room because I was wearing leggings and a comfortable t-shirt.
I used sarcasm with her. “Oh, I’m sorry. You’re absolutely right, I’m sure you put makeup and heels on for [child]’s 4 am feedings, too, right?” And then I pointed out the stains on my shirt from baby food and formula.
With kids, though, who are old enough to understand what sarcasm is, I’ll do a really exaggerated, over the top eyeroll and be like “Oh, goodness, we never ever go outside, do we? We’ve never gone outside a single day you’ve been here!” or something like that, because they laugh and they know it’s a joke. It also helps them develop critical thinking and communication skills.
5) What’s the first thing you notice about people?
Okay, so, I am a hypervigilant person thanks to a lot of PTSD-inducing trauma, so the first thing I notice about a person is usually how they hold themselves and if they have anything in their hand. I notice body language religiously - someone with an aggressive, threatening stance is immediately labeled a threat, whereas a person walking with arms to the side, shoulders back, and a general open body language is labeled not-a-threat.
That’s how I live my life, day to day. Threat or not-a-threat. Every single place I go.
I don’t recommend it.
6) What’s your eye colour?
Blue - apparently a very striking blue, I’ve been asked multiple times if I wear contacts. I do not.
7) Scary movie or happy ending?
HAPPY ENDING. And honestly, I have to know that beforehand or I have too much anxiety to enjoy the book/film/show/game.
8) Any special talents?
Writing, though that’s less talent and more intense and obsessive devotion to a craft.
I hesitate to add: I’m also very good with tarot cards. Give me enough time with a person, one of my decks, and I can pry deep into their lives and tell them things about themselves that they’ve never revealed to another soul. It’s honestly terrifying. I have stories.
9) Where were you born?
Missouri. Technically in a helicopter, not actually in a hospital. It was a very emergency C-section, I was a month early, and Mom had actually coded. She likes to tell people that I’ve tried to kill her at least once!
10) What are your hobbies?
Writing, gaming, reading, Youtube videos and shows, crochet (less so lately, I have trouble remembering patterns these days). I write a lot, I read mostly fanfiction right now, I game when I can (usually Skyrim, Dragon Age Inquisition, or Minecraft), I watch a lot of Rooster Teeth and Achievement Hunter, and occasionally I make blankets and washcloths when I get so stressed that I can’t function.
11) Do you have pets?
YES. Okay, so I have Boo, who actually might be my soulmate. I’ve never felt so close to an animal. He hopped in my car one day when I pulled into a parking lot, and I was like “Oh, okay, I have a cat now,” and he’s been mine ever since. In my defense, he was very, very skinny, declawed, and more than likely abandoned. I call him Seizure Cat sometimes because he always seems to know when I’m about to seize, and he’ll climb on me and purr so that I don’t wake up alone. It really helps.
Then I have Piper, who is my princess. She is 16-17, and to be frank, I stole her. I say I rescued her, but essentially, I stole her. I saw my friend’s dad kick her hard enough she bounced off a wall, and when it was time to go, I just picked her up and took her with me. For a long time, I was the only person she would let near her. She’s mellowed out quite a bit, hangs out mostly in her basket next to the food bowl, and yells when she wants attention - if you try to pet her before she wants it, she gets super angry. So affection is always on her terms!
Last but not least is actually my parents’ dog, Kobe. He is a massive German Shepherd/Treeing Walker Hound mix that we got from a pound in St. Louis. Brought him home at 8 pounds, found out he had distemper (he was the only of his litter to survive it), and 95 pounds and roughly three years later, he sleeps at the end of my bed (or couch when I can’t sleep in the bed). He is insanely smart - he’s officially smart enough that he knows all the commands he’s supposed to, can understand sentences and respond to them. He just doesn’t listen, because he pretty much knows he doesn’t have to. Luckily he’s an only dog, and my parents and I adore him, because he’s pretty much untrainable, simply because he’s so damn stubborn.
12) What sport do you play/have you played?
I can tell you that there is not a single person in this world who has ever looked at me and said “oh yeah, she’s sporty.”
I broke my wrist in a junior high kickball game. I wasn’t even playing. I was walking around the gym, talking with my hands with my friend @artsake-dreams and someone kicked the ball. It was hard enough that it flew across the gym, bounced off my hand, and snapped my wrist. The gym teacher didn’t believe I was hurt, the substitute nurse thought I was faking, so I walked to the office and cried to the secretary (who was my mom’s friend, mom is a teacher in the same district). Mom brought the x-rays in and very quietly and intensely not-yelled at the nurse and the gym teacher.
Later, in senior year, I got banned from playing hockey in the gym because I was too aggressive and almost got a detention for swearing. The only reason I didn’t was because the PE teacher was honestly just glad I was showing an interest in something physical.
13) How tall are you?
5’3
14) Favourite subject at school?
English/Writing. I also really enjoyed the sciences, even if I wasn’t good at the math. I was excellent when it came to the theories, but the formulas were really difficult for me. I also really love philosophy.
15) Dream job
I want to say writer, but that’s a lie because I don’t like people giving me deadlines for writing. I think an editor with a publisher is my dream job. Possibly a college-level writing/English/literature teacher. I’m one of those people who believes that writing is a skill that can be taught (though some are born with an innate talent) and that it’s something that should be taught. But that’s a post for another day.
Uh, okay, tagging some people? @artsake-dreams @sophaoat @thepeacering @icarusthriving UUUH it’s 2 am I don’t know 15 people off the top of my head, sorry, BUT if you see this you’re welcome to do it and say I tagged you!!!

alright, well today has certainly been interesting. my alarm went off bright and early at 7:30, and though I was tired of course the adrenaline for today’s events kicked in pretty quickly and I was off getting ready. I did my makeup to make sure it was impeccable (and it did turn out really nice) and got my freshly dry cleaned suit on with all its buttons and such. Spent about ten minutes eating breakfast before getting an uber to the juvenile courthouse. I was still feeling kind of tired so I decided it would be a good time to use a piece of my caffeine gum, which starts as like a hard tablet thing then turns into gum as you chew it (kinda like a gumball). So I’m chewing it and I’m like wtf there’s like something hard in the gum??? so I pulled it out and oh, that’s definitely a piece of tooth. great. I have about a billion fillings so I figured it had to be one of those, so the first place i checked was the last one that had gotten done that wasn’t all that stable but it was fine, and it ended up being the last tooth on the top left side of my mouth. Well, not much I can do about it at the moment. I got dropped off at the courthouse around 9:15 and just decided to wait around for a few minutes since it wasn’t terribly cold out rather than find another place to stake out for a bit. so I called my dentist’s office and told them what happened, and they said I could come in today at 11:30 or 2:30, I wasn’t sure I’d make it back from the interview for the 11:30 so we decided on the 2:30. I waited a couple more minutes before going inside and going through security, I swear it was the same sheriff that manned that security check point my first summer there that was so much better than the other ones, but after that first summer I moved and my public transit was closer to the other entrance. but they let me through easily, even though I definitely did set off the metal detector 😂story of my life. so I went up to the 4th floor where their office is and ran to the bathroom by the elevators right outside their actual office to make sure everything was good and kill a few more minutes so I wasn’t too obscenely early. Once I figured it would be a decent time to go in I headed in, the email instruction had said to you know let the receptionist know your name and that you’re here for an interview, except I knew the receptionist, so I didn’t have to do any of that lol. They gave me a standard employment application to fill out (which I’ve filled out for them before) which stated you didn’t have to rewrite any info that was on your resume, you could just write see resume, so that’s a lot less annoying, and to email a reference list in afterwards. So I finished that and gave it back, then a few minutes later the woman I’ve been communicating via email with, who I also know, came and got me to take me back to the conference room, which is in the back of the office, so while we were walking there she was like oh I love your suit that’s so cool, is it custom?? so that was cool to hear, I said it was and that a former employer had decided to get it for all of us and she was like awesome, my husband has a custom suit he loves lol. Once we reached the conference room she walked me in and, unsurprisingly, I knew the two people on the other side of the table that would be interviewing me (so just to keep track, I’ve officially known every person I’ve encountered in the office). One of them was actually in my first interview for being a law clerk way back in 2016 and then she ran the training so I knew her quite well, the other guy I didn’t know that well but I was familiar with him and he said he remembered me so that was a good sign. So they asked me about what my experience working with the office had been so I talked about the unfounded reports and the child death case and the permanency hearings and the interviews ranging between a 4 year old who’s been in her foster home for 3 days and is already calling her foster mother “mom” and wants to stay with her forever, to a 16 year old boy involuntarily in a psych ward which he would be stuck in way past the point of medical necessity (like, two months past when he was cleared after 6 days there) to the point where we had to get a court order for DCFS to place him somewhere else- so really running the gamut of different experiences here. So I talked about some of my other legal experiences like working for my dad (which is always a good one to use because I can bs it pretty freely to fit whatever I need it to be) and at the DV clinic and how I handled dealing with judges and clients and all that good stuff. They asked some question about the majority of the population they serve being African American and why I thought that was, so I said that of course the fact that 95% of parents qualify for a public defender means that the vast majority of them are living in poverty (and sadly a lot of people living in poverty in Chicago are African American), and while poverty itself is not child neglect it makes it a lot more difficult when you have to choose between going to work to feed your family and leaving your 8 and 10 year olds home alone which is child neglect, or not being able to afford a bed for your child, which is child neglect. And of course that while child abuse takes place across all socioeconomic levels, those in poverty are often in positions where their actions could be reported to DCFS a lot easier whereas someone with some social standing would probably be given the benefit of the doubt by not reporting when they see what could be evidence of abuse/neglect. There were a few other questions about using common sense and if I could give an example of how I thought that played into the job, so I talked about how when I was reviewing unfounded reports there was one against a daycare owner that had originally been indicated but was unfounded on appeal because the supposed act of abuse had been fairly minor, but the fact that the owner would treat a small child like that to begin with coupled with the fact that she lied to the parents and lied to the investigators and completely refused to cooperate were all big flags for me that this is not someone who should be entrusted with young children when they are capable of such actions, and how I took steps to ensure something was done about the situation. They wanted to know more about the child death motion so I talked about that and how I had researched it and the ultimate conclusion the judge reached that while he did not grant the motion, we were successful in convincing him he had the power to do what we were requesting, it was just the facts that he found unconvincing which of course we don’t have any control over, so I was still pleased with the outcome. And yeah, lots of questions about handling a high case load and all that good stuff, they had said since they lost a lot of staff they were down to like 3-4 attorneys per courtroom when it used to be more like 5-6 so caseloads had been rising again and that I’d have to be prepared for that. I asked them if they had a timetable as for when they would be making hiring decisions, but they were like oh yeah we have no idea, so still don’t know what to do with that other than wait I guess. So yeah, overall I think it went pretty well, I was confident in pretty much all of my answers and I think my passion for the work really followed through. So when we finished I headed out, it was like 10:40 at this point so I called the dentist office back and asked if the 11:30 was still available and they said it was, so I got an uber pool and rode it downtown to where my dentist is located. So he checked it out and got his little camera pen thing in there so I could see, basically a fairly large part of the tooth/filling had come off revealing the silver filling beneath it, which means it wasn’t a filling that we’ve done over the past 3 years I’ve been here with this dentist, but was something my New York dentist had done. The dentist said it was stable for now though, so we made an appointment for next week to put a crown on it. I took the brown line to the bus and then home which was fairly easy. After changing out of the suit I made some lunch and tried to relax for a bit, watched some Reign and made sure I sent the reference list over. I also started picking at my gel nail polish because once you start doing that it’s really hard to stop, so my nails were not in good shape by the end of the day, but that was okay because once Jess got home we met up at the nail place we’ve been going to and got manicures, and then walked over to main street and got dinner and then ice cream because ice cream is always needed for birthday celebrations, even if it’s slightly delayed. Headed home after that and looked at stuff on my phone for a while trying to figure out what I want to do tomorrow. I’m supposed to (and by that I mean I responded yes on facebook) to this event with Illinois prosecutors and government attorneys where there are a bunch of different government agencies attending and will be possible networking attorneys. And of course part of me is like just suck it up and go it could be helpful, but another part of me knows I’m really not interested in any of the options listed, I don’t want to end up in some random government office, and I highly doubt I could get hired by the SA’s office given my dearth of experience with criminal law in the actual courtroom. The one thing that might’ve been slightly interesting was the office of the inspector general, which I would be interested in as they have a division that works inside DCFS that I would love to work for, but those that are attending are apparently from the office of the executive inspector general, which just means they oversee state operations and such and basically has no connection to the DCFS branch. and I mean, what am I gonna do, hand them my resume and ask them to give it to someone at a totally different office? they’re obviously not going to do that, so at this point I’m seriously doubting going, I really just don’t think there would be anything worth going for, but I guess we’ll see. And yeah, after that I showered and got ready for bed and now I am here and I am definitely ready to pass out, so I will end this here. Goodnight darlings. Congrats on being halfway through the week.
