Flame of Autumn - Chapter 16
Tumblr media
Part 17/26 | Ao3
Eris
It had been a week since the worst and best day of their lives thus far, and Eris was fighting every single base urge the mating bond thrust upon him each time he saw his mate and knew she was pregnant with their child. He’d barely let her leave the room since, both because of the sudden protective streak he was experiencing, but also because it had triggered something feral in him that required him to pull her naked body back into their bed every time she tried to depart it. She would giggle and they’d resume right where they left off, touching and laughing and exploring each other again. It was like they were experiencing the frenzy of the bond all over again, but Eris wasn’t complaining.
He knew this couldn’t last–knew something would disturb this fragile, glorious peace–but gods, he wanted it to.
That morning, a letter had arrived in their rooms requesting his presence in the throne room at sunrise, and he was regretting his duties every second he spent not in bed with Tilly. She was still sleeping, bordered by dogs on each side, as he kissed her gently and left their rooms. He knew she’d been tired lately, and he wasn’t going to wake her for no reason. He left a note with her breakfast, remembering fondly the first time he’d done so, and tried to make this one a bit sweeter.
Good morning, beautiful creature
You simply looked too peaceful to wake, and I hope you’re having wonderful dreams–of me, obviously. I brewed your favorite tea, set to stay heated, as well as procuring more chocolate tarts. I’ll be back in an hour or so.
All my love,
E
He tucked it under the pillow when he set her tray on the night table, taking another look at her and wondering how he’d possibly lucked into this. Beron aside, he didn’t know how anyone could have received such fortune in life. Perhaps the universe was finally allowing him a reprieve in exchange for the previous five centuries of torture.
He walked to the throne room, cracking his neck as he went and preparing mentally for whatever Beron had in mind. He tried to smother the happiness he felt so it wouldn’t show on his face, letting that steel mask slide into place as it always did. He walked in with purpose, sketched a bow, and rose.
“How may I be of service, father?”
“I need you in Dawn Court to finish brokering the deal for the new adaptive armor we commissioned.” Eris was aware of this deal. Thesan had agreed, after much negotiation, to create armor for the soldiers of Autumn. It had certain specifications in mind, made them stronger, heat resistant, and less likely to melt in the case of an onslaught of fire magic. It wasn’t out of the ordinary, but Eris hadn’t done much with it at this point. It wasn’t a particularly difficult trip, though. They might even be able to stop by Day Court and talk to Helion before returning home.
“Yes, father. When will we be leaving?”
“Tomorrow morning. You will need to go alone, and be subtle there. I don’t want to risk anyone seeing you and thinking we’re brokering some type of alliance. That’s the last thing we need.” Eris was immediately uncomfortable with Tilly being left behind, his instincts roaring within him to stay nearby and protect her, protect their baby.
“Understood, father.”
“I will be off to the mortal lands for meetings with the human queens.” This information did shock Eris, but he kept his expression schooled.
“The human queens? I did not realize we were still in contact after the mishap with Brialyn.”
“Yes, I am building contacts with them. More allies can never hurt, especially not when they have a tense relationship with the Night Court.” Beron leered in a way that sent a chill through Eris. At least Beron would be far from Tilly in his absence. “Do not disappoint me, Eris. This is a very simple deal, and I need it to go through without any issues.” Eris simply bowed.
“Yes, father.”
On his way back to their rooms to pack, he thought about how he might approach the meeting with Helion. He could send a parchment from Day that was unlikely to be intercepted begging for an audience, then go straight there after Day to speak with him. He could see if Helion would be willing to at least help break the charm preventing Beron from being poisoned so that they could try again. Truly, he knew Helion wouldn’t do anything to compromise Alanna’s sons, as much as he hated Beron. He knew he’d be safe in Day, even if he wasn’t well-liked. He could explain the situation to Helion, and perhaps he would warm more if he knew the details. As a last resort, he could even exchange his knowledge of Lucien. Eris didn’t like it for anyone’s sake, least of all his mother’s, and he hoped it wouldn’t come to that.
Tilly had just risen when Eris returned. She was sitting there on the still-ruffled bed, eating her pastries. She smiled at him as he came inside, and Eris thought he’d never seen anything quite so beautiful. Her red hair was tousled, waving lazily in the low light, and she was wearing a silk dressing gown that slipped deliciously off one freckled shoulder.
“Got your note!” She held it up with a grin. “Thank you for the tea and tarts. I might live off tea and tarts if you let me.” He laughed as he came and sat on the side of the bed, giving her a kiss and tasting the chai and chocolate on her lips.
“I’m surprised the dogs aren’t here begging.” He’d practically had to pry Hestia away from Tilly this past week. She and Cinder had become incredibly protective, going nearly everywhere she went and growling at anyone else who got too close.
“I gave them their breakfast a bit ago and I may have given them some sausages to get a little reprieve.” Her smile turned guilty as she said it, but her eyes were filled with mischief. He reached up, letting his hand graze her jaw lightly.
“I have to go away for a few days.” Her face dropped at the news, worry creasing her brow.
“Why? I can’t come?” He knew she would worry–he understood.
“It’s just a few days in Dawn. I need to finish a deal for Beron, who will, blessedly, also be gone from the Forest House.” Tilly breathed a deep sigh of relief.
“Well, that’s not so terrible. Despite missing you while you’re gone.” She smiled, but it didn’t quite meet her eyes.
“I’ll be missing you every moment I am away. Perhaps you and my mother can spend some time together. I know she blooms when he’s gone, and it’ll keep you company, too.” She smiled and nodded.
“I’d like that.”
“And you’re good to keep the glamours up while I’m away?”
“Yes, I can do it. Not like I’d be using any other magic without you here.” She laughed a little, and he relented, kissing her again. A few quick pecks turned slower, more sensual. He could never get enough of her, and he knew that no measure of time would satisfy him. He trailed the kisses down her chest, sending all the love and affection that burned through the pathways of his heart down the bond and into her as she inhaled deeply.
He pressed a kiss to the spot beneath her navel as she sighed in contentment. He inhaled, loving the mix of flames and oranges that washed over him. It was going to be the longest few days of his life.
“Are you absolutely sure you’ll be alright while I’m gone? Perhaps I can figure out a way–”
“Eris, it’s fine. I have spent so much of my life by myself. I can manage a few days.” He pouted, putting on a dramatic show for her as she laughed.
“I am hoping to get a letter to Helion. Perhaps he might be able to help.” Her expression sobered as she sat back up, Eris rising with her to press a kiss to her bare shoulder.
“Let’s hope he will.”
Tilly
Tilly rolled stiffly across the bed, bumping the sleeping dogs and earning grumbles as she did.
“Oh, hush. I can’t help it that I can’t sleep. You’re the ones choosing to be here, anyway.” Eris had been gone for a day now, and she missed him sorely, but it was so much worse at night. She hated sleeping away from him–had grown so used to his warm body curved around hers that she couldn’t sleep without him here. Even with three dogs on the bed, she felt cold and lonely. She rolled again, tugging the bond lovingly and sending sweet thoughts through that mighty ribbon to him. It took barely a moment before she felt it echoing back, his amusement–likely at her still being awake–dancing around with love and devotion.
At this distance, the bond was so incredibly faint–delayed, even–but she was glad for it only to know he was safe and to have that small bit of comfort. She and Alanna had done tea in the garden that afternoon which had been a nice reprieve, especially with the lack of Beron’s overbearing guard lingering over them like a dark cloud. Tilly loved how much lighter the Lady of Autumn was when she wasn’t being chained down by Beron’s presence, but it made it so much more painful to see her locked back down upon his return.
They’d discussed flowers and the weather, and Alanna had tentatively mentioned the upcoming solstice, but nothing about the ticking clock hanging over their heads. A part of her wondered if Alanna didn’t sense it, didn’t already know about the grandchild cradled within Tilly’s womb. They would have told her, but they didn’t want to be responsible for giving her a single additional piece of information that Beron could torture out of her or punish her for keeping from him. They’d have to figure out soon how long they planned to hide this before they absolutely couldn’t anymore. She hoped Eris’ meeting with Helion would produce some good leads and keep them from worrying about it altogether.
Another roll and a frustrated sigh. She was probably only about two months along at most, and the uncomfortable nights would only become more commonplace from here. At least with Eris around, he could provide his warm hands pressed against her back for some relief. She smiled at the thought. Eris was going to be such a wonderful father, and as terrible as the circumstances were, she couldn’t help but feel genuinely excited about the prospect of seeing him in the role. She could imagine him rubbing circles into her back, holding her hands as she brought their baby into the world. She could picture Eris so vividly holding him or her against his chest, tiny tufts of bright red baby curls perfectly puffing up from the blanket. The visual brought tears to her eyes, as most things seemed to these days.
A frantic pounding on the doors broke through the darkness.
“Matilda! Matilda, help!”
Alanna.
The dogs were barking and snarling, and Tilly shot out of bed, grabbing her dressing gown to wrap tightly around her as she ran to the door. The pounding was growing louder and more hectic.
“Matilda, please!” She threw up her glamours and waved down the wards in the same breath, swinging the door open in a panic.
“Alanna, what’s–”
But it wasn’t Alanna she found on the other side.
She was greeted with the twisted smile of Aradnus, holding a handkerchief covered in a bright blue powder. The voice had been a trick of magic, and in the seconds it took her to put it all together and try to slam the door on him, he’d gotten his entire arm around her throat and pressed the cloth to her nose and mouth. She could think of nothing as her vision began to blur, her senses dulling rapidly. She struggled wildly against him, the dogs snarling and snapping behind her as he kicked the door closed on them, dragging her out into the hall.
As the darkness closed in, she tried to reach out through the bond to warn Eris, but the golden thread of flame was nowhere to be found.

Mulan 2020 sucks lol
Written and edited by yours truly
So, Mulan 2020 happened. And I am disappointed. Seriously disappointed. It is utter garbage. I would genuinely prefer it if I watched Mulan II 5 times in a row, and that's saying something.
There is so much to talk about because this has so many issues. I don't think my brain can handle a movie as bad as this for some time. It is a disgrace to the original animated movie.
(Who cares about spoilers?)
And yes, I can and I will compare it to the original movie because it is a remake. It is totally valid to see where this fell flat and where the original succeeded. I'm not saying it has to be like the original cartoon, that is stupid. As I mentioned, it's to highlight the failures of this movie.
Besides, even if we forget the fact that it is a remake, this movie is still horrible.
INTRODUCTION
Mulan 1998 is a classic. It has great visuals, an awesome soundtrack, wonderful and compelling characters, a great message and a cool plot. It's just a great movie in general. It is an adaptation of The Ballad of Mulan, a Chinese legend. Both the legend and the animated movie are about a young girl named Mulan who disguises herself as a man to take her father's place in the army to fight back against an invasion.
As big of a success Mulan was, Chinese audiences thought some things were weird. For instance, having a dragon be a comic relief character, given that dragons are highly respected in Chinese culture. So of course, Disney decided to try another shot, claiming that they wanted to be more culturally sensitive, accurate and closer to the original ballad.
Mulan 2020 is a remake of the original animated movie, and was marketed to be more "accurate to Chinese culture and the Ballad". This claim is, of course, false, because they failed in that aspect. Say what you will about the cultural inaccuracies in Mulan 1998, but at least it was a great movie. Besides, Mulan 1998 didn't pride or market itself on being culturally accurate, the way Mulan 2020 did, so there's that.
CHANGES
I don't mind some changes. And honestly, if there's one thing I appreciate, it's that it isn't a carbon copy of the original (looking at you The Lion King 2019).
Li Shang's character is divided into two characters: Commander Tung and Mulan's love interest Honghui, apparently in light of the Me-Too movement. This is a dumb reason. Disney wasn't comfortable with a superior having a relationship with a subordinate? The hell? The romance between Shang and Mulan was only insinuated at the end, when Mulan wasn't even a part of the army anymore, so there's that. Also, Mulan gave her consent, so I don't know what they’re talking about.
Mushu isn't present in the movie. I can see why though. He contributed quite a bit to the soul of the animated version but a CGI dragon would be very distracting. Also, the director said that removed him to achieve a more realistic tone.
Grandma? No grandma. Mulan has a sister though, who only exists to mess stuff up.
The Huns are replaced with the Rourans and Shan Yu is replaced with Bori Khan.
Mushu is replaced with a phoenix, who acts as an emissary for the ancestors
There are no songs, except in the end credits, which isn't a bad thing. The instrumentals of the songs in the animated one play during some scenes (I'll talk about the music, don’t worry)
CHARACTERS
The characters in this movie are so boring. Our lead character Mulan lacks the charisma her animated counterpart had. She's utterly bland, uninteresting and poorly written. In the original, she knew she wasn't physically strong and that she couldn't solve her problems with her strength, so she used her intelligence and wit. She excelled by working hard and being strong willed and determined. This Mulan is a well rounded character.
Mulan in the live action is given Chi powers (Chi is a big part of Chinese medicine, in case you didn't know). Honestly, I wouldn't be as mad at Mulan being given superpowers, had they actually done this properly! Chi isn't like midichlorians, it's something that flows through everyone. Mulan is naturally born with dumb superpowers and has to hide them because as her dad says, " Chi is for warriors, not for daughters”. There is a problem:
It has been mentioned many times that Mulan needs to hide her superpowers otherwise she will be shunned and ostracised. Then why doesn't she get more repercussions everytime she uses her powers? The worst thing that happens is little Mulan getting looks of disgust when she uses them. On other occasions, when she is now a part of the army, she uses her powers in training and she doesn't get any backlash? What the hell?? Then why even bother in the first place?
The only way for this narrative to work is if Mulan got more repercussions for using her powers.
If I were to make the line "Chi is for warriors, not daughters," work, I would make it go something like this:
*At the end of the movie when Mulan comes home*
Dad: Didn't I tell you that Chi is for warriors, not daughters?
Mulan: "I am a daughter, but I'm a warrior too."
(Yes, I know this is similar to a scene in Avatar: The Last Airbender, but this would be better, tbh. Also, watch Avatar: The Last Airbender)
Let me compare the training montages from both movies.
In the animated one, there is an absolutely AWESOME montage of Mulan training side by side with her companions, slowly gaining their trust. She climbs the pillar with both medallions by using her wit, not by brute force. This Mulan worked hard. Besides, the fact that "I'll Make A Man Out Of You" plays over this is the only thing that makes it better (banger song, thank you Donny Osmond)
In the live-action, Mulan is supposed to lift up buckets and climb on top of a mountain. There are also other training scenes, but those aren't very important. In these scenes, she succeeds with the power of CHI. WHY? Mulan here just achieves her goal because she is oh so special. She didn't work to achieve her goal at all, because she is perfect. No struggling or development here at all.
Mulan in the animated version was more concerned about saving her father. Mulan in the 2020 version is a dumb patriot who can't even do patriotism right ("I know my place. It is my duty to fight for the kingdom and protect the Emperor") How very empowering.
In short, live-action Mulan can do no wrong. She has no flaws, no personality and no charm. Everything comes to her pretty easily, because MAGIC.
Li Shang's role in the live-action is divided between Commander Tung and Mulan's love interest Honghui, as mentioned before. Both of these characters are flat, dumb and boring. Tung exists to tell Mulan to cultivate her Chi and to train these idiots (and to offer his daughter’s hand in marriage to her, unaware that Mulan isn’t actually a guy, but eh). Honghui is there to be a stupid love interest, who gives us an “I am Spartacus” moment.
The witch is by far the most interesting character. She actually has more than one side to her, has SOME kind of depth and you can even feel sorry for her. She is supposed to serve as a foil to Mulan, given that both have similar powers. In case you've forgotten (which is something I wouldn't blame you for), she's an outcast who's now working with Bori Khan. Why is she an outcast? Because of her Chi. The witch has said many times that she could kill Bori Khan in a snap, then why doesn't she kill him? Because she needs acceptance? What the hell? She decides to pull out the whole "We're the same, you and I," stupidity to Mulan, and I can see that. It's just that the writers just didn't put much thought into it. “It’s too late for me” because you saw a woman leading an army of men? Also, why does she warn Mulan that Bori Khan is coming? Unless she's playing both sides, except her motivations aren't made clear enough for this to make sense. Finally, she dies for the dumbest reason. God, it just makes me so mad. She had so much potential, but no. They just had to mess her up.
Bori Khan? MORE LIKE BORING KHAN. Not much is there. His animated counterpart Shan Yu was scary and contributed to some of the darkest moments in the movie. This guy over here is just...nothing. That's all I have to say.
Mulan's sister is only there to mess up the meeting with the Matchmaker. What a stupid change. First off in the animated version, it's Mulan who messed up, because she isn't perfect. She fails at being stereotypically feminine AND masculine, but in the live-action, she literally pulls off a Spiderman cafeteria scene, and the blame is put on the sister. In the animated movie, this scene is groundwork for Mulan wanting to prove herself and going on a hero's journey, providing depth to her character, but in the live-action, she's perfect. What is the point? (I know this section was supposed to be about the sister, but eh). The sister doesn't provide anything else to the movie, so thanks! I hate it. Moral of the story: Girls can do anything boys can, as long as they have superpowers. If you are born special like Mulan, you can be respected, whereas if you are like the sister, you have no significance and in the end, you can just fit in and be irrelevant. Congratulations!
The live action group of guys Mulan met and befriended in the army lack the charm and comedic timing of their animated counterparts. That’s it. Seriously. I have nothing more to say about them, because they don't really have anything going on. I don't even know why they are included, because their contribution is nil, save for them blandly speaking lines from the animated version’s songs ("I don't care what she looks like, I care what she cooks like"), which is seriously cringe.
The dad is there to tell Mulan that Chi is for warriors. A shame, because I really liked the dad in the movie. He was a source of wisdom for Mulan, whose greatest honour was having her for a daughter. In the live-action, he just takes the sword that Mulan is given at the end of the movie. The mom is meh.
The emperor is also meh. At least he was wise and cool in the animated version, but here he just does bed sheet kung-fu.
Did I mention that the dynamics between the characters are unnatural, forced, awkward in a bad way and in no way indicates any chemistry between them? Oh yeah, I didn’t, until now. They don’t establish much when it comes to emotion.
Simply put, Khan (Mulan’s horse in the animated version) had more personality than all of these characters combined
PERFORMANCES
Liu Yifei as Mulan was a pretty terrible choice. She is just a block of wood, who has absolutely no range, and this isn't because of the writing. She is genuinely bad, and is regarded as one of China’s worst actors (I kid you not). She just can’t emote.
Jet Li as the emperor is meh. But hey, he doesn’t have much to do, so eh.
Jason Scott Lee as Bori Khan is fine. He doesn’t suck, but he lacks the command and authority of a character who is supposed to be intimidating, but I guess it has something to do with the writing of his character.
Donnie Yen is a martial art legend, but unfortunately, he doesn't have much range as an actor.
The best performance of this movie is that of Gong Li, who played the witch. Honestly, she is charismatic, charming and has an idea of what she is doing.
To save everyone’s time, simply put: most of the performances are bland and mediocre. Partly due to bad writing and partly due to most of the actors not being, well, good at acting.
CULTURAL AND HISTORICAL ACCURACY
So Disney went all “we like cultural and historical accuracy”, which is nice. For example, the Huns are replaced by the Rourans, a real tribe in China around the time Mulan was supposed to be alive. They also removed the hair cutting scene, because as iconic and awesome as it is, it doesn’t make sense. Chinese men wore their hair long too. You know what? I like these kinds of changes. I appreciate accuracy. If only Disney didn’t pride themselves on their accuracy when they got almost everything else wrong (They somehow got Mulan's house wrong lol). I don't know jackshit about Chinese culture so just go watch that Xiran Jay Zhao video it's very swag
THE BALLAD OF MULAN
In a surprising turn of events, this isn't accurate to the Ballad, like they had marketed it to be (I know, I’m shocked too). In a reference to the Ballad, Mulan is riding a horse and she sees two rabbits running side by side. She goes home and tells her family that she saw 2 rabbits, and she thinks that one was male and the other female, but she wasn't sure. This just misses the entire point of the Ballad.
Long story short, Mulan in the Ballad is actually a seamstress. She joined the army in her father's place. She defeats the barbarians and goes on a ten year long campaign with her friends, after which they meet the Son of Heaven (a sacred imperial title of a Chinese emperor). He offers her a high ranking position, which she refuses, because she just wants to go home. She returns home and her family welcomes her. Sometime later, her friends come to visit her, and they find out that she is actually a woman. The friends are shocked because she has been in the army for 12 years and in those 12 years, they didn't even realise that she was a woman.
Mulan then replies:
The male hare's feet hop and skip
The female hare's are muddled and fuddled
But when two hares are running side by side
How can you tell the male from the female?
Which is where the poem ends.
So, Mulan just going on, judging those rabbits like that makes absolutely no sense. The Ballad is about how no matter how different men and women look, when they live and fight amongst each other, who gives a damn about the differences? You know what would have made sense though? If Mulan got off her horse, went close to the rabbits, examined them, and then made the conclusion that one is male and the other is female. This would actually be sticking to the message of the Ballad. Also, why do they make it ambiguous as to whether she accepts the high ranking position? I assume for a sequel (yes, God save my soul). Here we can see another example of its impeccable accuracy to the Ballad.
THIS ISN'T EMOTIONAL AT ALL
Everything that made the original film good has been stripped away. Every moment that is meant to be emotional is very dull. For example, the scene where Mulan makes the decision to take her father's place in the army is supposed to be a very powerful scene. Mulan is risking it all just so her dad can be safe. She might be killed if discovered, and her family would be dishonoured.
When Mulan comes back from the Matchmaker, she has a moment of reflection while singing "Reflection". This is the beginning of her personal journey, discovering who she is. In this, after Mulan comes back from the Matchmaker, she doesn't have a moment of reflection. The army immediately shows up. Am I really supposed to believe that Mulan feels bad about this? That Mulan is really struggling?
When Mulan’s friends are singing, it suddenly shifts to the striking scene of the burnt village. This, in my opinion, is the best use of tonal whiplash. From this point on, things are getting serious, and the emotional weight of this tragedy is felt. In this, they just randomly show up at the village. There is no seriousness (stop trying to tell me this movie is adult, mature and serious, it just looks like that on the surface).
Their attempts at being emotional are poor and unconvincing, and ultimately, the end product is an emotionless, soulless, depthless entity.
THE MUSIC
The director mentioned in an interview that she didn’t add songs into the movie because it is “unrealistic to break into song when you're in war”, and I don't think I’ve heard anything more false (apart from the concept of a flat Earth). Even I, who isn't going into war anytime soon, know this is false. They instead inserted instrumentals from the original film. Except, it's very weirdly placed. The instrumental for Reflection is placed when Mulan is fighting the Rourans after she reveals herself to be a woman. Like, there isn't any context. In the end credits, they had the original song "Loyal, Brave and True" sung by Christina Aguilera, which was nice. I don't really have much to say in regards to the music. The music is overall forgettable.
THE ACTION
The action may seem weird, but this kind of martial arts is a part of the Wuxia genre, which is what they were going for. Well, they failed. The choreography is bad, the CGI is bad, EVERYTHING is bad. Honestly, if you want a good Wuxia movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon exists. The action is here stupid and stiff.
OTHER DUMB STUFF
Why does Mulan take her armour off before going into battle? That is just stupid. Can't you just take the bindings off? Also, WHY OPEN YOUR HAIR-
Mulan really likes kicking spears (and pointy stuff in general). Seriously. It’s weird.
The CGI is okay I guess, I don't know. The phoenix in some scenes looks pink to me. There are some pretty visuals though.
It is very obvious that there is a green screen used in the scene where Mulan and her friends find the burnt village. And it looks bad. Pretty ugly. It looks bad. The green screen looks bad.
The war strategy is just weird. I can't really say anything about it in text form because how am i supposed to describe it, help- (she literally teleported behind the bad guys in the avalanche scene-).
I like how the animated film, which had a dragon as a comic relief and other silly stuff, is more mature than this.
For what joy does Mulan get another sword from the army? Also, shame the dad is all “oh look at the values written on the sword, they are honourable” even though in the original the greatest honour was having her for a daughter.
How was Mulan even able to tell the gender of the rabbits?
Why not just try to send a warning to the Emperor that the Rourans are coming to get him?
Why does Commander Tung let Mulan lead them-
I AM SO DONE
Well, I think I have said everything I wanted to about this movie. I know I havent talked about its controversies but honestly, I am done. I am so done with this. This document took 5-6 months of my life. I am kind of proud of this, and there isn't much I have done to be proud of. I did procrastinate on this a bit, and I had stuff going on, but finally, I am done. In the future, if I remember something, I'll add it here, but I think that is unlikely. I never want to watch or even go near Mulan 2020 again. It's horrible, and there is barely anything redeemable. I hate it here. It’s been reported that a sequel is in development. If it’s true, of course I’ll watch it, how else am I supposed to validate my self hate? I am also, of course, the resident “friend who suffers for everyone else’s entertainment”. If you want a live action remake of Mulan, Mulan: Rise of a Warrior exists. Go watch it, it’s free on YouTube with subtitles. I really liked it.
If you’ve somehow made it this far, thanks for reading. I congratulate you for putting up with whatever this is. I would also like to take a moment to congratulate myself for actually committing to this. It was painful yet fun to complain about this to the best of my ability. If anyone wants to add anything to this, feel free to do so. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m out. I have lost my faith in humanity, and I have other things to complain about.

idia/vil is such a sweet and interesting ship to me and does not deserve to be a rarepair i'm serious. this might end up a bit incoherent and disorganized because i'm not great with words, but listen. the thing is that while on a surface level idia shroud and vil schoenheit--a nerdy shut-in with anxiety who likes to game all day and a mega famous celebrity who's strict about self-improvement--might seem completely incompatible, their actual interactions show us that that just isn't true!!
like, for example idia's starsending robes vignette is a big one!! the way that vil sees idia trying to hide when he's supposed to be at the ceremony, and idia says he's terrified that people will make fun of him, that he's not like vil and can't just go out and not care what anyone think the way he does. and then vil... tells him he's wrong, that it's the opposite, that he cares so much what other people think but has enough of a grip on himself that he can ignore it and appear confidently in public. the way vil admits to idia that they are so much more alike that he thinks.
also, the way that (in this fan translation at least, as well as in other TLs i've seen--the localization translates it to have the complete opposite meaning, for whatever reason) idia then says "so in other words, you've got to level up your ignore skill", and instead of getting annoyed at him for translating his advice into video game terms vil just says "isn't that obvious?". he's going out of his way to try and give idia genuine advice and is willing to speak his language to get him to understand it. he even does a similar thing later on in book 6, when he tells idia that it's worth taking chances because after all, the star rogue protagonist took his chances and went from zero to a hero.
and on that note, book 6 is so good for them. book 6 has idia get all excited and carried away while infodumping about star rogue, only to abruptly lose his enthusiasm and start talking quietly and stuttering. and who is it that tells him he shouldn't act so embarrassed and that they weren't judging him? it's none other than vil. vil who also shows an interest in gaming, much to the surprise of idia who believed, in his own words, that a "sparkly, gorgeous supermodel" like vil couldn't possibly like any of the same things as him! but no, vil wanted to try out the games they had and vil expressed a desire for idia to talk about his passions without fear of being judged. vil enjoyed playing star rogue and he was glad to discuss the movie adaptation with idia and ortho.
it's also vil who, when idia expresses his disappointment at the star rogue sequel being canceled and his wish for the original team to get back together and create a sequel that would be made with passion behind it, is the only one to genuinely understand where he's coming from (as opposed to jamil who's like "is it really that complicated?" and leona who suggests that he just throw money at the creators). vil is the one who encourages him to take a chance at doing what he can to make that wish a reality, to let the original team know that there's a passionate and loyal fanbase waiting for a sequel, and tells him that he just generally shouldn't give up on changing his future and achieving his dreams before he's even tried. of course ortho heard this advice too and took it very much the wrong way, but vil showed a surprising amount of understanding and support for idia and i feel like it was exactly the kind of thing he needed to hear.
also. remember the scene in disney's hercules where hercules temporarily gives up his godhood and his youth by diving into the underworld to save megara? because vil literally did the same thing to save idia. yeah, he may say he only did it for plot reasons, but like come on, how am i supposed to just not ship them after they parallel one of my favorite disney couples like that? vil is a world famous actor and model who was terrified of aging, and he still took such an insane risk!! i'm sure idia would have a crush on him after that.
i'm trying to wrap this up now because it's already too long but also idia has actually been said to have great fashion sense as his online persona and shown to enjoy cosplay and dressing up on occasion (for example, he went all out on his pumpkin knight costume and this hasn't made it to EN yet but he liked wearing the masquerade outfit). vil had pretty high praise for his design sense when he saw ortho's burst gear. and vil gets along incredibly well with ortho and is in the film club with him post-book 6, which is something i imagine idia would appreciate a lot. the contrast between them and the things they unexpectedly have in common are just so neat to me.
so, in conclusion,
Tumblr media
i love them and i think they should be boyfriends

So here are my live reactions on the pjo finale:
- I’m not mentally ready for this yet
- Long episode tho :)
- Omg Luke opening gave me chills
- OH THEY DID HAVE THE SWORD TRAINING I WAS SO CONFUSED ABOUT THAT FIRST
- But why are they flashbacks and not just something we saw in ep2?
- I’m still confused on why they chose to reveal the Kronos thing already
- Why is Percy not wearing Annabeths necklace yet 🥺
- Damn slay Percy
- The fight didn’t disappoint I’d say
- Wait are they on Montauk 🥹
- The “please” 😭😂
- “I’m done running from monsters” babes you only just started
- AWWW there is the necklace 🥹
- I feel like Luke mentioning Annabeths arachnophobia is so random even tho he explained it 😂
- Oh hello Zeus
- That is one hell of a good casting choice for Zeus, appearance wise
- Okay Zeus letting Percy go already felt way too easy lol
- Percy you are so lucky
- They’re making Poseidon way too good of a father tho I’m sorry
- Oh I’m gonna listen to their Ancient Greek convo later and slower because I love nitpicking hihi
- I’m not sure whether I like that they changed the Greek coming natural thing, because on one side it feels like an unnecessary change, but on the other side I can still be delusional and think I’m a demigod, because Ancient Greek does not come naturally to me at all sadly
- Wait but does that still mean all demigods have dyslexia (and adhd)? I don’t remember whether they talked about it earlier in the series
- I will be so mad if Annabeth doesn’t have dyslexia and adhd (and still is also a bookworm, we’ve seen her being a nerd but not necessarily a bookworm)
- Awwww Percabeth hug
- Annabeth and Lukes relationship in this interaction was done perfectly
- Does Percy already suspect Luke now?
- That’s one hell of an accusation Percy
- But you know since he figured out about Kronos too it makes sense
- Backbiter name drop yas
- “This isn’t you” okay but how long do you actually know him Percy lol
- I’m very confused on what Luke is doing honestly
- What is he opening? And is the H on purpose, supposed to represent Hermes?
- Oh oh Annabeth is here
- Oh don’t know how to feel about that
- I do know that Leah made me cry, gods the betrayal in her eyes 🥺
- Really not doing the “names are powerful” thing huh😂
- Jason is so perfect for Dionysus
- “It’s a tree, Seaweed Brain, it doesn’t express opinions” 😂
- Leahs hair is so beautiful
- It feels so sudden that she goes to see her dad now, but I don’t remember whether it was less sudden in the books lol
- Annabeth not know what Disneyland is, oh my baby 🥺
- FREDRICK YOU BETTER SHOW HER A MOVIE THIS TIME
- “Go, be a kid” Percy is saying what we’re all thinking
- The trio is trioing 🥹
- What is happening
- That is FOUL
- What is happening part 2
- Yes please listen to your mom, don’t call him grandpa 😂
- I am patiently waiting for the Medusa Gabe scene here
- Please tell me there’s an after credit scene and it happens then
- Every time I watch the credits and every time I feel like it’s not the same
- YES ITS HAPPENING
- I have thoughts on the changes of Gabe turning into a statue but I cannot formulate them yet lol
- Ohmygod there’s a documentary
- Watching that tomorrow
Now the season is done I do wanna make an actual review of what I like and dislike both adaptation and just as a show wise

How I would try to Adapt “Dracula”
Hello, resident Film student that is about to graduate here and I have been through the deep-dive of the Dracula by Bram Stoker waters. Suffice to say, I feel in love and was very disappointed that the cultural osmosis of adaptations that I grew up around to understand Dracula does not even come close to the masterpiece that I found within the original story. It’s Jonathan and Mina, by the way. Their relationship is the masterpiece of this story. Go away very problematic themes, stereotypes, and ideas, I will not let you take this relationship away from me.
Seriously, how was it possible for me to ship a Victorian couple so hard? Why do we not have this in more adaptations?! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU HOLLYWOOD?!
…AHEM! Once again, I am sorry to my followers for another fixation has caught my attention. At least this is something I could probably put in a portfolio…
Moving back to my idea, I should make a point that I am a storyboard artist so my idea generally falls to making it into an Adult Cartoon Series. Something along the lines of the Legend of Vox Machina — because I really like that art style and it feels like it fits best with my plot.
Speaking of which, let me get into the plot! Strap in newcomers because I am a bit of a storyteller when it comes to explaining my whacky ideas, if you didn’t already figured that.
DARKY’S DRACULA ADAPTATION, GO!
The setting of my adaptation takes place relatively the same time period. In fact, things are largely the same as the beginning of the novel; Jonathan travels to the Count’s castle, he notices the strong ongoing, he has that horrible encounter with the Vampire Ladies, Dracula does who know what to him, he even has his refined taste for paprika!
You might ask yourself: “Well, how is your adaptation any different from the book?” Well, that’s easy, my good friends. Because Jonathan manages to kill Dracula that day on June 30th, where he successfully decapitates the monster that’s been tormenting him.
It all sounds well and good, right? That means no one to torment Lucy and she can have her big day with Arthur. Mina will be safe, no children get bitten. It sounds wonderful…
…But Jonathan can’t get out of the castle. He remains there, trapped, with the Vampire Ladies and a presence that won’t go away.
Months go by and Mina receives a letter, one from her missing fiancé. He is still in Romania working with the Count, but he would like for Mina to come by and look at the land. Thinking how it would be a wonderful place for a honeymoon.
Mina is confused by the contents of the letter, but it is her proof that her fiancé is alive. And now she has a location of his whereabouts.
With a sadden goodbye to Lucy due to the fact that she will miss her wedding, Mina heads to Transylvania in order to find Jonathan.
But when she arrives at the Castle, welcomed by the Three Women, Mina realizes what horrors had plagued Jonathan and now it will soon come to her.
And that’s the outline of the Pilot I had in my head. Do I think it’s possible for Jonathan to decapitate Dracula with the shovel? Probably not, but it needs to in order for this adaptation to work. And before anyone says, yes, this Adaptation is pretty much Mina Murray going all Resident Evil 7 on Dracula’s castle.
She deserves to have her rage moments. Also, she really wants to get married. If it means she has to storm a castle, then she will do that!
Some other facts that I wanted to include:
Lucy gets more of an active role in the story. She’s been poorly adapted for so long, I wanted to give her something more. She’s the Galinda to Mina’s Elphaba. You bet she’s going to lead a search party that involves her husband, their two best friends, and the silly Professor that was interested in the location in order to find her two childhood friends.
Also, yeah. Lucy and Arthur got married. I’m going to give these two a chance to be happy before things go wrong when they arrive at the castle.
The Vampire Sisters get a chance to be main villains for the first half of the show. Yes, I called them Sisters instead of Brides cause I read that two of the three look like Dracula and I’m just going to leave it at that. Also, I think the Blonde one is their mom? I’m not a hundred percent sure. It’s an adaptation. They’re getting more screen time and depth, is what I’m trying to say!
Mina has a gun, watch out.
Dracula still has a role in this story. That I can include.
I know I likened the plot to Resident Evil 7 so I ‘m just gonna go ahead and say this; Mina will not loose any of her hands.
Expect a lot of Jonmina moments, flashbacks and when they reunite included.

Since season 3 of The Witcher Netflix comes out tomorrow...here are some of my concerns on adaptation from this season onward. Potential spoilers for the future seasons and definite spoilers for the books. Long post ahead.
The Hansa's Dynamic
I am so worried about how the Hansa is going to be handled in the show. Like shaking in my boots terrified. The showrunners already really messed up Dandelion & Geralt's dynamic...and that's one of the easier dynamics present in the Hansa imo. The dynamic is already going to be screwy because Cahir is a middle aged man and not a petulant teenager if he's present in the Hansa at all (though I think he will be since Emhyr called him and Fringilla out at the end of s2).
Emhyr as a Character
Speaking of Emhyr...I think they might attempt to give him a redemption arc, and I cannot emphasize how bad of an idea that is. They're going to retcon the whole "wanting to impregnate Ciri" bit, which I have mixed feelings on. Like yes, on one hand that's fucking gross but on the other hand, that bit is in there to show how fucked up Emhyr is and why Geralt needs to get to Ciri so quickly; it adds a sense of urgency to the Hansa's travels. If I see Emhyr sympathizers on my dash after this season I will lose my fucking mind.
Milva's Pregnancy & Related Scenes
I suspect that Milva's pregnancy is going to be cut entirely or play up the rest of the Hansa's concern for her as a weird "men think they can control women's bodies" thing which Milva will have to fight with them about so the show can be appropriately pro-choice without exploring any of the pro-choice nuance the books bring up. I can just see Regis talking to the guys about it being turned into a "the father deserves a say in a woman's choice to abort" scenario instead of the "I will give this woman her abortion regardless of what you all think about that (and I've made that VERY clear) but I think she's making this choice because she believes you all will abandon her/not support her if she wants to keep this baby and someone needs to make sure that she knows that won't happen" scenario that it actually is. This is also plays into my concerns about the Hansa's dynamic as changing that scene changes it irreparably.
Characterizing Nilfgaard as a Nation
Right now I feel like the show could go one of two ways 1) Nilfgaard is wrong in everything it does or 2) Nilfgaard is right in everything it does (if Emhyr gets a redemption arc). The show has already made a show of the Northern Realms' racism, which is book accurate mind you, but I fear this will translate to a sort of "Nilfgaard is the better nation as its less racist" scenario. While Nilfgaard is better in that aspect and a few others, it is still a militant slave nation. Nilfgaard and the Northern Realms both have their evils and their virtues; that's a big point in the books and the games. Neither nation is 100% good or 100% bad - they're just nations. I don't think the show will be able to handle that kind of nuance.
Jaskier & Radovid...
Apparently, Radovid is supposed to be one of Jask's love interests this season. Radovid is a massive racist, a war criminal, and a teenager. I'm sure all of that's going to be retconned but for fuck's sake just make a new character if you're going to age up and completely change the personality and insanity of an existing one. Important note: I am 1000% in support of queer Jask. I have never shipped that man with a woman in my life (even in the books and games) but for the love of God why did his LI have to be fucking RADOVID??
Mistle & the Rats
If they make Ciri and Mistle a love story, I am going to be disappointed but not surprised. Let me be clear: Mistle is a rapist and an abuser. I suspect they will change that to shoehorn in a queer relationship (even though Triss and Philippa are RIGHT THERE if they want a semi-canon wlw couple). The Rats as a whole are definitely going to be made into more robinhood-like characters because God forbid a main character like Ciri is morally grey or does questionable/bad things.
Geralt's Disability
If this season ends with the Vilgefortz and Geralt fight, as I suspect it might, Geralt will be disabled permanently by the end of this season. The dryads do not fix it. Magic does not fix it. Geralt becomes disabled and stays disabled. His disability becomes a hindrance during the books and the reader actively sees him grapple with the fallout of this. I do not trust this show to handle that - especially with how much more closed off Geralt is in the show compared to the books. If I had to guess, Geralt's disability will be handwaved away or mentioned in passing and never actually shown to impact him which is not cool.

Song Yan: I can guarantee I'll be good to you. I'll be good to you everyday. I'll never betray you nor neglect you. I'll try my best to create a better life for you. I can't guarantee if I am good enough to meet the requirements of you and your family. I know it's hard for you. I know if we're really being together, you'll have to suffer. I understand. But you have to stop coming into my life like this. Be together or never see each other. Make a decision.
This show give me all the angst I need. (For the fluff, I trust King The Land. But I am a hopeless case, seeking for something that can make my heart ache) And until this point it had been going very well even with some additions that don't happen in the source novel. I was okay with the changes because they suited the story and made the show more emotional.
But then...After this scene, I don't know why, they chose to go down a different path and lost the perfect opportunity to give us a deeper emotional aspect. We watched a bunch of filler episodes then they decided to go back to the source again but I felt like it wasn't a good pay-off for it. What a huge disappointment.
This scene was seriously good, don't get me wrong. It's one of my favorites both in the novel and the show. The extra shot to the boiling porridge was a nice detail. They tried to give many little things, the characters showed their vulnerability and mindset clearly...so a turning point very much for them and for the viewers. After this, I needed to see/watch the emotional turbulance, because this was implied before, no, not implied, said by the character himself.
"Some wounds, when I was young I took a hit, I was fine, and recovered quickly, but if it happens again at this age, it will be fatal."
The thing they didn't show in the show but happened in the novel is that her being silent here seriously ruined him. He became more depressed. The man who is a responsible firefighter got drunk for the first time after her silent rejection despite the fact that he might be called for an emergency mission at any time.
But he didn't blame her. He knew her so well and still defended her against his cousin. In the show this conversation between the cousins happened during a breakfast in a very normal way.
Sigh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zhai Miao: Didn't you say it would be better not to see each other? Then don't. Song Yan: But she came.
Also I don't know why they didn't show the importance of this line. It was a critical point to understand why he can forgive her despite everything she did.
As long as she comes back to him and shows what she feels, he is ready to take a step towards her. Because this is their dynamic. It started when she chose to go with her brother at the skate park. The next day she went to him and insisted that she would stay with him and he silently accepted her apology in the novel. The same scene was shown in the beginning of the episode but they didn't show what happened the next day part and we never got an explanation about how they were reconciled later. I mean, to me, this is so important to understand ML's mindset and feelings about her. They have had such a weird relationship from the very beginning and some scenes should be helpful not confusing.
End of the rant, I guess. I'll continue watching it, because like I said, they give me good kind of angst and the plot still has potential. Also I look forward to watching how my other favorite parts of the novel will be adapted.

Gojo Satoru
✰ Most of us would think arguments with this man would end with y’all naked and rolling in the sheets
✰ Y’all would be right if the argument was small and his ass doesn’t go ballistic ignorant
✰ See when the argument gets serious Gojo gets childish
✰ I’m talking plugging his ears and saying he’s not listening when he knows Damn well that what you’re saying is right
✰ Like tonight’s argument about one of his pranks going horribly wrong
✰ He tried to manufacture his own surprises glitter and fart spray box for the neighbor who likes to swipe packages but he some how fucked it up, now your living room is covered in glitter and smells like a Walmart restroom
✰ You were definitely on his ass, you told him about preparing his pranks somewhere else and he still decided to ignore you and ruin y’all living room in the process??? Oh hell yes it’s ON
✰ Gojo: Babe accidents happen, you can’t be this mad about an accident can you??
✰ Y/N: I’m mad because I told you several times to not do this shit in our living space to prevent these kinds of accidents from happening but you didn’t listen.
✰ So once he realised he’s not going to win this one it goes sideways
✰ Finger in ears talking about I’m not listening, Gojo looks like a tool.
✰ Your face drops from to anger to unamused rage, you don’t have time for this ignorant garbage so you walk into the bedroom
✰ Gojo knows he fucked up as he lay in on the couch that covered in glitter and reeks of yesteryear funk; he regrets everything
✰ In the morning you’re awaken to breakfast in bed and Gojo gently saying a heartfelt apology
✰ He’s offering to buy a brand new living room set and willing to do much more just to get you to forgive him and possibly let him play in the sheets with you
Nanami Kento
✰ Arguments are a rare thing between Nanami and you
✰ He’s always so soft and sweet with you that arguments hardly ever have any holding
✰ His favorite method of keep peace is de escalation because he hardly have free time and he rather spend his rare free time not being angry with you
✰ You’re both grown and can talk things out like adults without the name calling and yelling
✰ As much as he hates and avoid arguments tonight’s argument couldn’t be avoided
✰ He missed your date night again after promising his work wouldn’t interfere and boy is you upset
✰ He understands your anger, he did promise you that tonight would be yours but he let work steal himself from work
✰ As you vent out your frustrations Nanami pinched the bridge of his nose, upset with himself that he disappointed you
✰ He didn’t say anything as you went off on him, he deserves this he thought
✰ Y/N: I really didn’t think you would miss our date night let alone not call, I know it’s unfair to say you’re not giving an effort into this when I know you’re working towards the greater good but sometimes I feel so alone.
✰ As your anger transformed into tears Nanami held you closed to him tenderly
✰ He rubbed circles in your back as your tears stained through his shirt
✰ Nanami: I’m so sorry Y/N, you’re are right it wasn’t very fair of me to not call or show. I’ve been neglecting you and you don’t deserve it, I swear on all that I am I would be a better man for you
✰ Nanami lived up to this promise to you, He’s started taking off twice a month just for nights dedicated to you
Suguru Geto
✰ Adapt and Overcome that’s the name of the game whenever Geto feels a argument brewing
✰ He knows how nasty he can be to a non sorcerer so he NEVER argues back with his one and only favourite non sorcerer… you
✰ You’re arguing with yourself at this point love
✰ This man Literally knows when a argument brewing and he knows how to deflect them
✰ Geto do sweet things for you when you’re mad at him
✰ He automatically corrects himself when he’s fucking up with you
✰ When he pissed at you?? He hides it with a smile and tender touch (This man a fucking monster but there is no way in fuck he’s being a monster to you)
✰ So you’re eating your favourite ice cream while Geto cooks your favourite food
✰ Y/N: I don’t remember why I was mad at you. Is it one of your powers to know when I’m upset with you???
✰ Geto sitting across from you: No, it’s because I know you inside and out
✰ He’s oddly perfect and you will never know the wiser
✰ There is moments where his perfect act cracks especially when arguments are about his
Horrid treatment of non sorcerers
✰ He doesn’t snap at you but his facial expression tells it all for a complete second
He’s blind sided but there is no way in hell filthy non sorcerers going to cost him his relationship with you
✰ Geto puts back on the doting boyfriend act again, After all he loves you and what kind of boyfriend would he be if he makes you cry with sharp words ??
Fushiguro Toji
✰ Toji don’t have time to argue and he doesn’t give any effort in arguing, Low-key agitating
✰ He knows he can easily accidentally intimidate you and he’s not about all that
✰ Toji rather you vent out all your anger than he participate in riling you up
✰ He knows you and he knows you’re pissed at him, he feels there is no need to add to hostile environment after all he knows how this will end
✰ Literally if you’re the kind to get more heated at the silence from the other party then you’re in for a rage treat
✰ Toji is sitting on the couch with a bag of potato chips in between his thighs munching away as you rant away about what??? he doesn’t remember
✰ Hell this is so drawn out that you don’t even remember what started it your damned self but the fuel to the fire is Toji silent disinterest facial expression
✰ Y/N: So you’re going to sit your ass there and eat lays chips while I’m trying to tell you something??? You got me fuc-
✰ Just like that he hit you with those Zenin bedroom eyes
✰ As he move the chips and open his legs so you sit in between them he say the most tempting words
✰ Toji: I know you’re frustrated with me but there's better ways to get your anger out
✰ Your anger towards him is slowly fading away and is replaced by lust
✰ The night is filled with you taking your frustrations out on Toji in a intimate way
✰ Everything ending the way he knew it would
Ryomen Sukuna
✰ Sukuna loves when you’re mad at him, he lives for it
✰ He Never takes argument so serious after all He’s a king and that means you’re his consort and a true king never overpower his consort over a trivial human emotion like Anger
✰ Sukuna riles you up on purpose; you’re just more delicious when your anger burns against him and he can do is grin at ya when you’re pissed at him
✰ He knows you’ll claw his back up later in the most pleasant of ways, your anger excites him
✰ Now he doesn’t abuse this power over you even tho It’s so easy for the King of curses to get carried away
✰ You’re steaming and not talking to his ass while he’s silently amused
✰ Sukuna as he caresses your skin: Dove, are you still angry with me? I know I’ve angered you but it was all in lust for you and the way you react when rage overtakes you
✰ His touch always calms you back down as his aura envelopes you
✰ But when he’s upset with you?? Lesser curses heads getting ripped off like box tops
✰ Sukuna NEVER takes his anger out on you
He never argues back when he’s agitated with you, he walks away and just take his anger out on lesser curses (Mahito you better run)
✰ He knows you’re a human and he would sooner commit a mass extinction than hurt you
✰ When he’s better and calmed down he’s going to have you in his arms or railing you silly

Why I don't like "Wednesday" the new Netflix series
Now, I was really hoping to not have anything negative to say about the new Wednesday series because I absolutely love The Addams Family and I love Tim Burton (bonus points if the music is by Danny Elfman which 98% of the time it is) but there were many problems I had with the series and I'm just going to talk about why.
1: They ruined Wednesday's relationship with her mother
Tumblr media
I don't know about in the comics but in the original show, and the two movies (we do NOT count the abomination of those animated movies that came out recently) but Wednesday was always close with her mother, they complimented each other, and she looked up to Morticia and wanted to be like her. BUT FOR SOME REASON in the show Wednesday all of a sudden, hates (or at least it's shown that way) Morticia and says things like "I am nothing like you" "I don't want to be like you" even down to not having a romantic side like her mother using the same nicknames (like in the movie with the nerd) and I get that she's a teenager, but like that was a big part of her character imo.
2: The parents are godawfully annoying
Tumblr media
They probably did this for the very reason that the show is called Wednesday and it's probably trying to get us to see through Wednesday's p.o.v so she'd find them annoying but like, their love being so sweet and genuine was one of the best parts in the show that was more for the older kids and adults to enjoy, and Wednesday ONLY SHOWED THAT IN THEIR FLASHBACK.
3: The show took away what The Addams were all about
Tumblr media
The Addams were like outcasts to the "Normies" as the show likes to call them. And having Wednesday go to a school where she "fits in" because she really wasn't and outcast to the outcasts no matter what the show tries to trick you, but if she went to a "Normies" school instead of being expelled like in the first episode she could have been the Wednesday that the real Addams Family fans know and love.
4: The didn't even add one of the best characters from the movies
Tumblr media
Joel (if I am getting that right) was such a cute addition to the movie, the dynamic that he had with Wednesday because they were such opposites were the highlights to the movie. He was a nerdy kid that liked to be alone, and she just liked to be alone. But I was pretty disappointed that they didn't choose to add him in and instead had the Coffee shop boy and Painter as love interests (I'm not going to include Wolfgirl since she isn't cannon to liking Wednesday, and she's too fucking annoying for me to handle)
5: Our classic Wednesday & Pugsley duo
Tumblr media
I mean like how could you separate these two? and IK that Wolfgirl could be a (possible) substitute for the absence of Pugsley, but it is very disappointing to not see the duo back at it creeping out other kids and even plotting things against their friends/family but that was definitely a lose
6: They really shouldn't have had Wednesday go to a Walmart version of Monster High
Tumblr media
One of the things that made The Addams Family THE ADDAMS FAMILY was the fact that they were just a family, like others but they were just different. Which is why the lyrics were
"They're creepy and they're kooky Mysterious and spooky They're all together ooky The Addams family
Their house is a museum When people come to see 'em They really are a screaming The Addams family"
And I KNOW that this is just a different adaptation but how can you call it The Addams Family when you basically have her like EVERY OTHER CHARACTER SHE INTERACTS WITH. it just ruined that part, and she should have never been expelled for that piranha incident.
7: I'm not completely on board with the supernatural aspects
Tumblr media
Actually, for this one I'm not really talking about her visions (don't get me wrong that whole aspect was definitely weird at first but I'm talking about Wolfgirl, Siren, Duce, Telekinesis boy, and maybe even painter boy (who I'm pretty sure is just like the nerd but anyways). Because The Addams WEREN'T ABOUT THAT they were about creeping other people out and I get that they had other friends like cousin IT and the kid WHAT but those were just tiny aspects, and they were rarely part of the movies and mostly there for parties. It just makes no sense for there to be a bunch of outcasts for THE ADDAMS FAMILY
Aside from those major things the more problems I have are with the other characters that she interacts with, mostly Wolfgirl that one really annoyed me Siren was more of a disagreement Wednesday had at the beginning but then got along with afterwards and she was pretty interesting.
I didn't entirely like the whole Monster Killer reveal, and how predictable it was or that whole grooming scenario but that whole storyline was more for the plot than anything.
but there are things I did like about the show:
Walmart Duce and Wolfgirls relationship (weather romance or not the puppy love is cute)
I like when they make Wednesday, Wednesday like how she enjoys digging up graves, or doesn't cry, or show affection
I did like the Coffee Shop kid and honestly, I think he needs help from Wednesday. He was after all groomed by that teacher (when I tell you I gaged watched that scene, I mean it) and she did use his mother against him and controlled him until he gave in which is really sad and I want Wednesday to help him
I did like painterboy too, he became pretty stiff afterwards but if they give him more development that'll be nice to see him interact with Wednesday (she seems to care for him at some extent to jump infront of the arrow for him)
I like Siren girl and the Mayors son, I want to see more interactions from them
THAT MORTICIA AND GOMEZ FLASHBACK IS EVERYTHING TO ME IK THAT WHOLE STORY WAS SO FREAKING PREDICTABLE BUT DAMN THE FACT THAT HE GOT ARRESTED FOR HER MADE MY HEART SKIP A BEAT
I did like the sheriff, IK he was an asshole to the Addams at first, but I liked when they finally made amends
Coffee shop kid and Wednesday's first date was pretty cute, but it would be 1000000000000x better with summercamp nerd

As a no.1 fan of the railroad arc. I won't talk about the second half of the chapter 113 because I don't know what I'm supposed to say, but!!! Hellkaros and Lloyd's conversation!!! It has changed so much that I don't want to forgive it!!!
First of all, in the opening chapter, Lloyd states that he received information from the Spirit Phone. Hello?? Okay, I have no problem with Lloyd using it. But do you think it's a good idea for Lloyd to search the internet for information about the King of Hell?? In the novel, Lloyd already knows that information. He already knew what Hellkaros was like. He already knew the information that was only briefly mentioned in The Knight of Blood and Iron! Am I the only one who has a problem with this part? Because changing the fact that Lloyd obtained information about the Hell King with unimaginable power from a source that could definitely be trusted 100% a.k.a. TKOBAI or a source that could only be trusted 40% a.k.a. random videos from Hell internet had a very different effect.
And this isn't the only bad part.
What's worse is that Lloyd challenges the King of Hell after he rudely tries to make a deal. There was even no guarantee that Javier would be able to protect him because the Hell King had power beyond imagination! Do you think it makes sense given Lloyd's character? He's not a type who'd take such risks. Especially by risking his own life on randomly information! When I read that, to be honest, I was very disappointed. I daresay that the novel has done it better. If you say 'Manhwa is funnier!' I suggest you read the railroad arc in the novel again. The manhwa ain't ballin' compared to the novel. lmao.
And besides, it was clear that Lloyd knew Hellkaros very well despite having only this little information. The same was true for Hellkaros, who only knew that Suho had possessed Lloyd's body and done many things in a dimension that was not his own. But they still managed to know each other well! Lloyd even admitted that he and the Hell King had things in common. (Okay, I won't shut up about their chemistry.)
And what hurt more than anything was that they chose to completely cut off Hellkaros' thoughts. You'll never know what he's thinking in the manhwa, and yes, the novel is much funnier if you use Lee Hyunmin-nim's logic that he used in the adaptation. (💀)
First, after having a short conversation. Hellkaros had already thought about replacing Lloyd with his own because Lloyd was more capable than he thought. It shows that Hellkaros is more interested in Lloyd even though his work is a lot. And Lloyd was much more polite and respectful to the Hell King in the novel.
Second, in the part where Lloyd talks about building the station. They also talked about details that the manhwa chose to omit entirely. And after Hellkaros had put everything into consideration, how it would benefit him. Do you know what happened? He knew that if he accepted Lloyd's proposal to build a railroad, then yes, there would be no more transportation problems. And Hellkaros wouldn't have to keep those stupid Satanists updated in real time. This means that he will complete his work faster. From all the equations, he got the answer: 'He will be able to get off work.'
I'll give those chores to them all. My own workload will also get substantially lighter. I won't have to continually find a new transportation route for those idiotic demons with a reliable railroad. If that happens...He would be liberated from every single one of his miscellaneous chores. All that was left for him to do was sentence dead souls, a basic task for him. And that meant... I can get off work Thump! Hellkaros' heartbeat vigorously sped up. He could go home. After 670,000 years. Away from his sickening work. He could finally activate the door lock to his house, which still had a protective film on. He could finally open the door to his house, remove his dress shoes, dip himself in a warm lava bath, and binge-watch TV shows with his mana-powered marble. HellTube. Hellflix. Hellcha. Hellver Series.
Chapter 232
See how funny and silly it is? I still have a lot to say. Oh yeah. As for the time Hellkaros actually was working, it wasn't just Lloyd knew from the information he had. Hellkaros was also the one who spoke to him about this matter. 'Why come when I'm busy? Don't you know I'm blah blah blah' Honestly, I especially liked this part because Lloyd had no choice but to listen to this hell king talk. LMAO and it was actually so funny that I wondered what in the world they decided to change it and cut out all the good parts. They even talked in 2 episodes, but?? They decided to shorten it to just half a chapter. I expected to have fun and this is what happened. Are they afraid of making the Hell King have the desires of normal people? His house hasn't even been removed the protection flim yet.
I swear I'll say more if they choose to cut it again in the future. Hellkaros often imagined what he would do once he returned home. And the worst part is that they chose to cut it out. I really don't understand why it was done.

A few thoughts
The past few days in this fandom have been absolutely exhausting, depressing, disappointing and overall frustrating. I do need to get some stuff off my chest, and though I've already said something on Twitter, I want to elaborate further on how much the fandom is absolutely ruing the experience of the show for me.
Firstly, and foremost, I am a longstanding Lestat fan and a Loustat shipper. I do not, in any way, feel the need to apologize for this. However, I do feel extremely uncomfortable right now in the fandom, and I know for a fact I'm not the only one experiencing such emotions. Though by now I hardly ever interact with people on social media, I like reading what fandoms think and how they perceive things. To me, sharing passion and opinions has always been an essential part of the deal of loving a piece of media and, after years of very bad experiences, I truly thought this specific fandom was a safe place. I mainly thought this because I'm very familiar with the books and books canon, and I thought people were entirely prepared for morally corrupt characters and dark, though extremely fascinating, stories and relationships. I understood after episode 5 that this was definitely not the case. I accepted that and tried to move on. But the past few days, ever since it was revealed that Season 3 is planning to cover The Vampire Lestat, have been unbearable. It personally didn't happen to me, cause I hardly ever join discourse, but it hurt to see Lestat's fans shamed and put down, if not totally vilified, for the simple reason they rejoiced in the idea of finally seeing the book adapted and of finally getting Lestat's point of view. Though on one side I get the fact people fear Louis will have a less prominent role, on the other hand, I do feel confident Louis will keep on being a main character. It's been repeatedly stated and confirmed and there are several ways in which Louis can maintain his undeniable importance even in an adaptation of The Vampire Lestat. I also scarcely manage to understand why people did not see this coming: Lestat has been the most important and iconic character of this saga for decades. Furthermore, this is a saga based on the concept of the unreliable narrator: the natural progression of the story is to have Lestat's point of view of the events, in order to get a full picture of them. Lestat was always going to find his way on the main stage and tell us his story. It all fits within the essence of canon.
I do get Lestat can be an uncomfortable character to like or love, and I understand the show is portraying him in a very villainous light. There are several reasons why this choice was made: firstly, Louis and Claudia are unreliable narrators and their memories of Lestat are not necessarily accurate - most of the time, they aren't. Whatever Louis is telling us, it's bound to be a romanticized version of Lestat, and I use the term romanticized to mean that Louis is exaggerating everything about Lestat: because memory works like that; because remembering him in such a flamboyant way makes it easier for him to deal with his own guilt; because in picturing Lestat as a monster, Louis is also protecting his memory of Claudia. It's impossible to know for sure what actually happened between Louis, Lestat, and Claudia right now, because we only have one heavily edited point of view and because the narration has been cut in a half. Not to mention the fact Armand might have a key role in the way Louis remembers and tells things. Armand has the power to manipulate thoughts and memories, and canonically uses it to achieve his goals. It's a dynamic that must and will be explored and could change a lot in the way we perceive Louis' story. This is not, by any means, an attempt to denigrate Armand. I adore Armand. Being a sucker for tragic characters, how can I not love him? But I won't pretend he's a positive character because it fits the narrative of Lestat being the sole and only villain better, especially because it wouldn't be fair to Armand - or to Lestat, or to Louis.
But even with all this put aside and ignored, even if Lestat turns out to be exactly how Louis has depicted him (and it's one hell of an if), people still have the right and the choice to love him. Nothing, absolutely nothing, allows you to judge people and bully them, and shame them, and guilt trap them, over their preference for a fictional character. It's simply not justifiable. Here's a refreshing take: not everybody thinks of fiction as moral guidance. Not everyone needs their favorite characters to be positive, heroic, and ethical. Not everyone wants to see their favorite characters react to trauma (and Lestat carries boulders of it on his back) in healthy and pretty and acceptable ways. Some of us love anti-heroes, anti-villains, or simply villains. In different occasions, and sometimes even in the same moment, Lestat is all of the above. People who love him know it, and love him still - in spite of it or even because of it. That is FINE.
Lestat does not exist. And because he is a fictional character, he can absolutely be redeemed: it only takes a creative choice to do that. It's how fiction works. I do think Lestat will face a long and painful redemption arc, but I also do not see it as an absolute necessity. Redemption arcs are just one possible narrative choice. A character doesn't necessarily need to be redeemed for people to love them, to function better as people or to function better within relationships. Though it might not be the case, Louis and Lestat could choose to be fucked up together. Louis' journey might be a corruption arc. Again, we're too early on in the series to make assumptions about this. Choices will be made regarding this point, and viewers will decide what to do with them.
Which includes feeling uncomfortable watching Lestat. That's legit. Lestat, as I mentioned, is an uncomfortable character, and a rollercoaster of ups and downs. However, though he might be louder and unapologetic and dramatic, he is not the only one in the saga. Every single character in the saga is extremely problematic, tragic, and dark. That obviously includes Louis and Claudia. By refusing to see them as fully rounded characters, by reducing them to the role of tragic victims, by not accepting the possibility that their intentions, their reactions, and their actions might not be one-layered, you end up misinterpreting them and missing out on the satisfying journey that it is to love them with their contradictions, negative impulses, and darkness. This is a story about vampires and vampires are monsters. Rice's vampires especially struggle with their monstrous nature and face existential crises, and that is extremely interesting if explored in the correct manner, which really requires taking off the moral glasses and embracing these stories as the tragedies they are. The Vampire Chronicles are not about who's evil and who's not, they're not even about degrees of evilness. They most certainly aren't about who "deserves" to be with whom, and they are not about who "deserves" redemption. By real-life standards, none of them can be saved, redeemed, or involved in a relationship. This is not, however, real life. This is fiction, fiction about monstrous, semi immortal creatures with supernatural abilities.
So, please do not be mean towards Lestat's fans and Loustat shippers. Please be kind. Please don't try to discipline people over how they are supposed to enjoy fiction. Many of us find escapism in fiction. To many, fictional stories are a happy place - and often the only one. Discussions and different opinions are always welcome, but do not, at any time, give in to the urge of putting people in a corner and accuse them of vile things because they love a certain character or a certain relationship. Everybody is allowed to love and hate, to feel triggered, uncomfortable, or ecstatic and full of passion. Nobody, however, is justified to call people out because of their appreciation of a character. It's fiction. You can enjoy it or not, you can watch it or not, you can criticize it or defend it, analyze it or decide it's just not for you. You do not get to turn fandom, which is supposed to be a safe and welcoming place, into a toxic and suffocating environment.

but the thing is,
i don't believe diavolo is "canonically yandere"
and here is why:
first off, those admissions stated are not unique to "yandere" characters only. multiple characters have expressed wanting to keep mc to themselves, and given the chance, they would proclaim so. it can't be a fact contributing to diavolo = yandere if other "non-yandere" characters (say, mammon or asmodeus, or perhaps simeon) would or have already proclaimed such things. Obey Me is a romance oriented game. It is quite normal to hear/read lines of the sort, no matter the character archetype. I've played otome/gacha games including Solmare's games since back when they were still Shall We Date. edit: —and therefore encountered those same lines multiple times.
second, his character song. i genuinely believe his character song isn't meant to suggest that he's yandere. i didn't feel any of the sort. if anything, diavolo's character song instead feels likd desperation. like he was doing his best to sell himself to mc.
"Have you noticed? This is my charm."
"Please don't look away
I will catch your heartbeats
Say no more and come here"
"I'm a formidable No.1
The unmatched only one
Fear nothing and move forward
Run run run
Always singing with grace
La la la la la"
"I have nothing to hide, I am always honest
As long as I can, I will do anything for you
So yeah, "as an exchange"...
...may not be an appropriate expression
But I want that love from you in return"
Even the chorus feels like he was trying to convince mc and him both.
"Fear nothing and move forward." seems to be a message to himself, a reminder that despite possible, suggested fears of not being chosen, not being the closest to the player in comparison to the brothers, especially Lucifer.
It's very hard to explain and I probably should be doing my research paper instead but technically, he is the number 1. He's the prince of Devildom. He has the authority, the riches, the power. He's royalty. But compared to Lucifer and the brothers, he has barely any way to connect to mc. Not to mention that Lucifer is the more present and active forefront.
It's also like...like he thinks he needs to exchange luxury or material things to be loved.
Honestly I don't think I have enough non-neurodivergent braincells to be able to express my views on the matter clearly and concisely, so this ends here.
edit: i am back from first major hurdle of research study. right now i am not playing obey me. the way the writers handled the story and the individual character depths of all the male leads disappointed me, so i only come back for fanfic ideas because yes, despite what has happened in the story, i still love the characters. so yeah. as of now, these opinions are of what i know from the character song, and from side/event stories as well as devilgram and chats. before stopping, i did play obey me for the main story for three years though.
point one: it was not diavolo who was specifically responsible for mc's estrangement into devildom. mc was chosen by random and complete bad luck, mentioned by lucifer in satan's arc. even then, choosing did not fall under diavolo's responsibilities, but lucifer's. pretty irresponsible way to choose an exchange student, especially a human one, but diavolo wasn't even meant to be a dateable character back in the earliest part of the main story for it to suggest that diavolo has yandere tendencies. the only thing that implies is that demons overestimated humans and their ability to adapt/acclimate or simply did not care. however, this argument is only viable if the yanking mc from home thing one is referring to is not from season 1.
point two: the definition of a yandere is exactly, word for word, this: Yandere is a portmanteau of two Japanese words. The first is yanderu, which means “to be sick,” and the second is deredere, used here for “lovestruck.” A yandere is often sweet, caring, and innocent before switching into someone who displays an extreme, often violent or psychotic, level of devotion to a love interest
here's a longer definition:
Tumblr media
point three: there's a distinct difference between yandere and somewhat possessive or jealous.
point four: barbatos is def much more of a canon yandere than diavolo, and i am not against fanon/headcanon/au yandere! diavolo.

So I need to get this off my chest
I'm very bummed about what Rolin Jones did to Lestat's character, yes he's a monster yes he's a toxic bitch but a domestic abuser he was not in any iteration. I don't see a lot of positive feelings for him nor do I see excitement for him like "omg I can't wait for Lestat next season" don't get me wrong I love Louis and Armand too but the way I relate to Lestat (and Nicki) i've never related to any other character
And people being like we are watching the show only for Louis & Armand once when s3 happens ratings will drop. Nobody wants his POV.
And rewatching some interviews/casting calls they're def gonna make Loumand more tender/sweet and now that they've realized what makes the audience backlash they will conveniently tailor the scripts to that not only sanitizing the characters but also making loustat toxic to a maddening degree compared to loumand
And even if Lestat comes w his POV the audience will be like so we're supposed to believe an abuser?
Levan a lifetime fan of the books read the script for E5 and went like "how is lestat supposed to come back from this?" And sam mentioned "this was a change that took a lot of time to process"
And if it was IWTV lestat only i'd still get it but they've mentioned the AMC!lestat is not the Lestat we see only in IWTV but also other books that means his nature will be carried on to the next seasons which the audience utterly despises
Anyway rant over
I disagree.
The books definitely have the abuse in them, especially in the first half of IWTV. Our later perception of Lestat is of course influenced by the later books, but in the first half of IWTV he IS the antagonist.
He probably would have destroyed the parlor furniture in a rage.
‘But you don’t know him if you think he’ll let us leave,’ I said to her, alarmed at her self- confidence. ‘He will not let us go.’
To just pick out a few key moments. He and Louis also fight a lot. Physically, too.
And I don't think the show will cater to the loud Loumand criers at all. (Not referring to the shippers here, Loumand is totally valid, I'm referring to the seemingly delusional part here that I have encountered already, too.) The "people" you mention are a very loud minority on Twitter it seems, and they will be disappointed. Because all the old fans -I- know are waiting for S3... IWTV has been adapted before after all.
No-one needs to "believe" him... the tale will shift, and it will be fact - as in the books - and it won't invalidate said abuse, because the Lestat in later books himself never did that either.
Levan's comment can be read totally differently as well, especially given that he has to make it happen (with the others) - HOW are they going to do it. Not... "oh my god how am I ever going to have my poor blorbo reinstated!!11!!!" *sniffs*
Come on.
The audience does not despise Lestat. He is a fictional character, and a lot of people enjoy a good antagonist, especially if there is a long, long character arc incoming.
It's fine if you do, but I would be very careful to generalize.
Especially since they already pulled the tale apart at the end of season 1. Anyone still thinking that was the (whole) truth we saw... well - what can I say.

POV: The adventuring party meets up yearly after the epilogue to talk about their lives.
Loki Wren: So, I realized I really liked rats, and decided to raise them by hand because I thought they were cute- Even if they live short lives, I had to think: What else could befriending those critters bring? Loki Wren: Eventually, after selectively breeding the critters, I've gotten all sorts of quirky results, healthy of course. Its important to improve the lives of the offspring. They are my friends!
Loki Wren: To improve my communication skills and to tame them better, I asked Halsin to teach me a few things- I basicially don't go a day without casting speak with animals.
Loki Wren: Then, one of my nests developed a few prodigy rats, very obedient little pets. They're kind of my children. Started teaching them how to gather information. They're cute tiny spies. Very smart, very adorable.
Loki Wren: Had to neuter a lot of my babies though- You know- Things can get out of hand, one of my favorite sons tried to breed with sewer rats, and I didn't want to upset Astarion again with my obsession over these critters.. Early on he was not very happy with my research.
Loki Wren: My precious boy was angry with me first- but then understood it as if I had given him a new great holy mission: To befriend the sewer Colonies and establish an alliance with them through education.
Loki Wren: [starts laughing, there's a giggle at the end] And now I... [wheezes] Have an army of rats at my full disposal, with emissaries of rats training and teaching each other.. Convinced I am god. They developed an entire culture surrounding me.
Astarion: From ratboy, to ratfather, to Locke- then Loki Wren. And then Ratgod. Who would've thought. [chuckles] And now all in Baldur's Gate adore the critters.
Loki Wren: Anyway, the city is now psyched about pet rats and less eager to kill the sewer rats. My ''divine'' protection. [manical laughter] Of course, they do have territorial disputes. Helps keeping the population at bay.
Loki Wren: I love my rats..
Astarion: Sometimes I wonder if you are a genius or just really enthusiastic about your little hobbies.. Then I realize you are both. Always both.
Loki Wren: So what's everyone else been up to?
Shadowheart: Uh, I learned how to swim. Properly this time.
Karlach: The usual, fighting off fiends. [yawns] I would love to pet some rats though!! Wyll: I hunted a few bounties in Avernus... Nothing out of the ordinary. Seldazr: Published another book, I think Volo's jealous of my success. He's been trying to claim my glass eye is the cause. Not much else?
Gale: I've been trying and failing at modifying a scrying spell... Elminster has been dodging my letters. Lae'zel: Could you overthrow another city with the rats? They're pretty much soldiers already. I'm disappointed you haven't tried yet. Minthara: ..I would like to know as well. I think they'd do well in the underdark. Enough space. They could potentially and easily adapt to the ecosystem in a few generations, reigning terror on the denizens and cultivating with their religion into a functioning society. We've seen it happen many times before..
Loki Wren: ..How do you think the Bhaalists were driven out? They work better as spies.
Halsin: Okay- Thank Silvanus. I was worried you were conscripting them.. From what I've seen in the city itself, life thrives better with less conflict and more equity.
Loki Wren: I AM NOT SENDING MY BABIES TO WAR!!!
Astarion: [sips his drink] Of course not, Darling. Of course not.
Loki Wren: This is why we did not invite Jaheira for our repeated reunions, next thing you know she's ruining everything with her paranoia....
Meanwhile back in Baldur's gate
Jaheira: [holds up a pet rat that has no fur] Who's my little Minsc baby- who's my little baby boy??? Yes you are. You are. [scritches the rat]
Rion: Ugh.. Jord: :(

Hello! I do hope this isn't intruding but I'd like to request a EJ dating head cannon? I've read your others and love that their not ooc. If you have time of course! < 3
Hello dear! I'm so glad you like my headcanons <3 Did you know you were my 1,000 follower? Just a little fun fact that I noticed and made my day. Hope I didn't disappoint with these, enjoy! ♡
Dating Eyeless Jack | Headcanons
TW: soft gore, Stockholm Syndrome, mentions of force feeding (sort of? Only once). This entire post is just weird
Sheeesh. Very long and dramatic shesh. I could do a Buzzfeed Paranormal episode out of this, or a really bad comedy movie. A cryptic and a human dating? I'm getting a deja vu.
'Eyeless' Jack is a monstrosity of a being. He might appear human over all those layers of clothes and his mask, but don't be fooled (and DON'T approach him!), he's more animal than human. His brain is 60% beast and 40% human, so I am actually not that surprised he has some sort of feelings for you.
Being considered a cryptic, Jack is a very lone and territorial creature. His mind is often foggy, cracks and flashes of who he once was spread around like papers in a messy office. It's not often when he goes out in the daylight, especially human habitats - however like I said, he is still 40% human and sometimes Jack gets weird episodes where he finds himself lingering around parks or stores. He feels like he's dreaming more than anything.
That's how he found you. A simple human minding their own business at the park - and I'm not kidding, what attracted him to you was your beauty. Jack is a curious creature, your looks merely got him trailing after you with rapid throughts.
Please, don't think his curiosity equals a puppy's curiosity. It might look like it, by the way he circles you and tilts his head whenever you do something he finds odd but Jack's curiosity reaches morbid limits. He doesn't understand humans - I mean, he knows they have everything handled to them easy, and that they work in groups. But actual details? His knowledge of humans is the same as our knowledge of the ocean.
With that said, once you're within his grasp, Jack won't let go of you. You remind him of someone he once knew, a long time ago, and that's probably the only reason he hasn't killed you yet.
Also with "within his grasp" I mean, he kidnapped you from your house and took you to his dent - a small cave system hidden away deep in the woods, covered by moss and vines. It used to be a mine, but like I said, that was a long time ago. There was no way you'd possibly want to go willingly.
Jack doesn't talk despite being able to. He has a voice, he has some words memorised in his brain, such as 'food' and 'hurt'. He doesn't talk because he doesn't remember how to, the closest you'll get are his growls and hisses.
What happened to him in 1943 was...an incident. It shaped Jack into who he is today, 78 years later. But you will never know that, no matter how long into the relationship you both are. Jack will never tell you, nor there is anything laying around good enough to tell you what happened.
Even if you do somehow find out, I beg you to never mention WW2 to him, or anything that could be related to his past. It will send Jack into a spiral of episodes and worst case scenario you end up as his next meal.
Anyways, back to his curiosity. It's a bit tricky how you're going to eat - Jack will give you his food, consisting of organs, and he'll probably force you to eat it in the beginning. However after some time he'll hunt an animal and bring it to you. There's a small campfire inside his cave so you can use it for cooking.
His body adapts to the weather. It keeps him cool during summer and warm during winter. That honestly might be the only good thing about him, if you ever get to cuddle him.
Speaking of cuddles! You'd have to introduce the concept but I doubt Jack would like it. He's very weird about being touched despite being constantly touching you - but he never actually holds you close. However, you'll get to see Jack without his mask. He really doesn't use it much inside his den.
I'm not calling him ugly but he's also not the prettiest sight to look at. Jack's empty eye sockets are painful to see, especially when he has that black goo leaking from them - it doesn't happen constantly, it's sorta like a bleeding nose, but when he does...Or how his cheek bones are incredibly skeleton like. Maybe his sharp like a knifes tip teeth are enough to scare you down?
For this, Jack is a unique cryptic. He looks both human and a monster, unlike Laughing Jack or Jason the Toymaker. His body easily presents as a human male in his 20s except for the claw like nails. It's probably the only thing left of him that shows he was a human once.
Speaking of other creepypasta's! Jack's hideout is too deep into the woods for any other pasta to come around. You might see SlenderMan, who has a fond curiosity of Jack and has reached a point where there was an actual confrontation (which could've easily killed Jack), but he doesn't care about you, surprisingly.
Sometimes, old Jack comes around and it's so weird when it happens. He tries to act human around you by doing simple gestures, but it always ends up in Jack isolating himself like a wounded animal. It's clear how he's still suffering.
There's a locked box somewhere in the cave. You can try to open it but there's not much inside besides a letter ripped to pieces and an old picture dated '1938' of three people, one resembling Jack and another one surprisingly similar to you, like a long lost twin. You can try to read the letter but it's not written in English so unless you know German, good luck.
A little fun fact; Jack will draw you on the walls. It's not over the top art but it's something. It's like a hobby? You're probably the only thing he draws.
Also, Jack is not a light sleeper. He flinches a lot and makes very soft snores - also moves a lot in his sleep, but always ends up curled up in a ball. Good luck getting some sleep unless you decide to hold him, that might be the only occasion you get to do it and he has no issue with it.
Still, being in a relationship with him is both sad and terrifying. You can see through visible actions, like how sensitive to noise he is, that there is still a human inside Jack, battling whatever has become of him now. Some days it gets worse, Jack exiles himself to the depths of the old mine for days and the only thing you'll hear that tells you he's still alive are the screams and growls. As much as it might pain you to hear it, don't approach him unless you wanna turn this into a kill or be killed situation.
Okay, from all this, you might be convinced Jack is the worst to date but despite all, he still has his 'soft' moments. He's not a beast, not completely. He sees humans gifting their special ones flowers or things they enjoy and tries to do the same for you - small flowers he found through the woods, or clothes/objects from his victims.
Jack will never let anything harm you. There is a high chance he'll fight a bear if you're out hunting with him and just so find yourselves face to face with a larger predator.
To end this with a cherry on top; Jack is a special yet sad case. He's messed up and he knows this. He still tries to be human but all those memories come back flooding to him and it's overwhelming. I can see him letting you go at some point, the 1940s Jack inside him wants you to live the life that was taken from him.
Honestly I wanted to delete this and start over because I didn't like how it turned out lol
