Your family, the Rose’s, had a similar standing to the Snows. Maybe that’s why you got along with Tigris so well. You knew what she was going through, you understood her day to day struggle.
Tigris and you were pushed to be friends by your parents, before the dark days. You were two years younger than her, but still, the two of you became inseparable, especially after your parents gained back their fortune and moved into the penthouse beside theirs. Sometimes you thought you spent more time in their home than your own, after your money came trickling back.
Most of the time you spent your allowance on the Snow family. Your parents pretended to not know. You constantly bought Tigris new thread, buttons, or fabric. She refused to let you buy anything expensive; so you would go to a shop, buy the cheapest things you could find, and give those to her. Then, the two of you would sew together, usually giving the pieces to the Grandma’am or to Tigris’s cousin, Coriolanus.
Coryo was in your year at the academy, so you spent a great deal of time with him as well. You were pretty close with him too, though you wished you were closer.
The night before the Reaping and the Plinth Prize, you got home late. You had to lug dinner, your school books, and buttons all the way across town by foot.
When you arrive home, you open your bedroom door to find Tigris sitting by your bed.
She gets up and gives you a hug. “Is that bread?” She asks, glancing into your bag.
“And stew! Come, sit.” You walk into the room and over to your table. Tigris follows suit, adjusting her robe slightly. “Is everyone asleep?” You start pouring the stew from the canister into bowls.
“Yes, your sister was already asleep when I got here and your parents stopped by thirty minutes ago to say goodnight.” You nod and hand her a bowl. “Thank you! You’re my favorite.”
“You’re welcome! I have the buttons we needed too. Where is the shirt?”
“Oh, it’s in my bag.” She nods to the purse sitting by your bed. She stands up and gets the shirt swiftly. You take it from her and unfold it, it looks nearly perfect. The buttons are just the missing piece.
“This is perfect! Beautifully done, T.”
She blushes. “Stop! It’s really your doing. That is the thread you gifted me. And these buttons are going to outshine everything else.” The way she said it made you instantly believe it.
The rest of the night, you and Tigris slowly sew on each button. Trying different stitches in order to find the perfect one. Once you did, you lay the shirt down on your couch, and nod off to sleep, your last thoughts were of Coryo. What would he think of you helping with it? Would he smile in that one way he does sometimes? You couldn’t help but grin at the thought.
The next morning, you woke up earlier than usual with Tigris. You had to look your best today, even though you weren’t in line for a Plinth Prize, you knew there’d be plenty of pictures taken if Coryo wins it, and he will. You took the rest of the bread with you as you went to the Snow’s penthouse, just two houses down.
“Have you seen Tigris with my Father’s shirt?” You hear Coryo ask as you walk through the door.
“No.” The Grandma’am replies.
“Coryo?” Tigris calls out as she walks through the foyer. You trail behind her.
“Tigris?” Your classmate finally comes into view, shirtless. You look away.
“I’m sorry we’re late.” Tigris apologizes.
“It was my fault, my first alarm didn’t ring.” You say with a frown. “But! We did it!” You gesture for Tigris to get the shirt, she does.
“Well, we did something.” She hands it over. Coryo starts putting it on.
“I think it’s gorgeous.”
Tigris looks at you, clearly thankful for the compliment. “It’s beautiful.”
“Best cousin ever, and best friend ever.” Butterflies erupt in your stomach, you don’t let them show. “Tell me everything.”
“Where do I start? I told Fabricia, at work, that she needed to bleach her white curtains and I slipped in the shirt while she did it. And of course we have Y/N to thank for the buttons.”
“How much were they?” He asks, furrowing his brows.
“Don’t worry about it. Think of it as an early graduation present.” You brush him off.
“Oh. Did you find the potatoes? I boiled them for starch and you should really eat something today.”
He shakes his head. “Save them for Grandma’am.” He buttons the last button.
Tigris grins, and fixes his collar. “You look so handsome! Grandma’am! Come see!”
“Coriolanus Snow, future president of Panem,” Tigris joins. “We salute you.” You and Tigris both salute Coryo.
Later, you and Coriolanus walk into the academy shoulder to shoulder. Clemensia, Coriolanus’s class partner and a classmate of yours, comes up to you two.
“Why, Coriolanus Snow, Y/N Rose.”
“Clemmie.” Your friend replies.
“Are you two sweating?”
“It’s reaping day, we gave our drivers a day off.” You reply.
“Ugh! Those ingrates should be begging to chauffeur you around today.” Clemensia replies, not looking at you once. “Just don’t forget I was your class partner while you’re gloating over the Plinth Prize.”
“Prize? Please.” Coryo shakes his head. “I just want to serve Panem.”
She hums. “Hungry?”
“Cook served steak for breakfast, we had to throw half out.” She seemed to believe his lies.
“Shame on you, Coryo. Don’t you know that they’re starving out there in the districts?” The three of you walk in. A friend of yours, Juno Phipps, calls you over.
“I’ll see you soon, Coryo. You’ve got this.” You squeeze his shoulder before walking over to Juno .
A moment passes before the bell rings and you have to rush into the veiwing room. You run over to where Coriolanus is standing with Sejanus.
“…There’s no plinth prize today.” You overhear. Sejanus walks away. You go up to the blonde.
“What just happened?”
Coryo’s jaw tightens. “He said there was no prize today.” Your heart shatters for him.
“Come on, the reaping is starting.” You place your hand on his arm. “Today, Coryo. There’s no prize today.” You emphasize. He glances at you and nods. You drop your hand and walk in, Coryo following.
You sit down right as Dr. Gual starts speaking.
“How tantalizing to see all your shining young faces on this auspicious day.” She starts. “I am Dr. Volumnia Gaul, your humble gamemaker, in charge of the War Department and all its affiliated concerns. I’ve broken free of my laboratory today, to examine you, the leaders of the next generation. I won’t be around forever, after all.” She laughs. “And now to that end, I am honored to introduce you to the creator of the Hunger Games themselves, Dean Casca Highbottom.” Your dean steps up, clearly high on morphling, but then again when is he not?
He clears his throat. “Select students, faculty, and of course, Dr. Gaul, I have summoned you all here today for the 10th annual Reaping Ceremony in which we choose two children from each district to throw into the Capitol Arena to fight to the death in the Hunger Games.”
He gestures to the top students, sitting in front of the room. “And here sit.. our own twenty-four top prospects all waiting to hear the results of hard study in this prestigious institution.”
He pauses. “Eager to learn who’s won that Plinth Prize, no doubt. And a golden future. However, I am here to tell you that there’s been a change this year. One final assignment to prove your worth. Because… the esteemed citizens of the Capitol have grown bored of the Games and simply aren’t watching anymore. And if the games are to continue there must be an audience. So, Head Gamemaker Dr. Gaul has stepped in to… incentivize patriotic values with her own unique flair, starting with you. The Plinth Prize will no longer be determined by who has the best grades.”
The top students burst into a mixture of confusion and anger. “But by who is the best mentor in the Hunger Games. This is a brand new role. As the reaping progresses live, I will allocate each district tribute a capitol mentor behind the scenes, one who must just persuade them to perform for the cameras.”
Someone calls out. “Obviously, the best mentor will be the one who’s tribute wins the game.”
Arachne, an insufferable blonde girl, replies; “What if I get a pathetic runt girl from one of the poor districts, like 8 or 12? They’re just going to die in two minutes like they did last year and the year before.”
“Your role is to turn these children into spectacles, Ms. Crane. Not survivors. Victory in the games is only one of our considerations. Your entire future rests on this last project. Oh, and I must tell you that anyone caught cheating to give their tributes an unfair advantage,” He laughs. “Will just not have any future at all.” The reaping music starts. “Oh! Here we go. Let the reaping begin.”
Dean Highbottom grabs cards and starts reading off the mentor to each tribute as the tributes are chosen. You zone out until you hear Coryo’s name. District 12, girl. Lucy Gray Baird, to be exact. The tribute walked to the stage, stuffing a snake into a girl’s dress on the way there— you wished you could’ve seen it, but the cameras panned away. When Lucy Gray got to the stage, she stood in front of the mic, and started singing.
“You can’t take my past. You can’t take my history.” The room erupted in noises of confusion. “You could take my Pa, but his name’s a mystery. Nothing you can take from me was ever worth keepin’. Nothing you can take was ever worth keeping.”
“Singing? Is she out of her mind?” Arachne yells. Your eyes don’t stray from the screen.
“Can’t take my charm. Can’t take my humor. You can take my wealth, cause it’s just a rumor. Nothing you can take, was ever worth keeping.” Lucy grabs the mic. “You can’t take my sass. You can’t take my talkin’. You can kiss my ass!” She lets go of the mic, making it thud, as she turns around to the peacekeepers. The room laughs at her.
“Well, she’s mentally ill.” The blonde remarks. You all get up, you decide to wait a couple steps behind Coryo as Dean Highbottom speaks to him.
“At least.. since the assignment is to turn them into spectacles.. at least Lucy Gray already is one.” You offer to your friend as the dean walks away.
“Let’s go home.” He says instead. You frown, but start walking with him anyway.
Once your at the Snow residence, Coryo tells Tigris everything, you chime in from time to time to add on.
“He’s sabotaging us.” He looks at Tigris, and then to you. “That girl’s not going to win these games. You saw her. She’s underfed, unstable.”
“The dean said it’s not just about winning.” You say.
“Everything is about winning. If not the Games now, then the crowd. Lucy Gray won’t survive a minute in that arena.”
“So that means we have to make every second before then count.” Tigris says.
The blonde nods. “I’ll get her to sing again.”
You snort. “I wouldn’t sing a note for you, if I were her. I wouldn’t do anything at all, unless I could trust you.” Tigris nods.
“She’s district, Y/N.” He sighs. “She knows we hate her, and she wants us dead. How am I supposed to get her to trust me?”
“Imagine it was your name that they pulled, and you had just been ripped out of your home. I’d just want to know that someone still cared about me out here.” Tigris says, softly. “Don’t discount her just because she’s district, Coryo. You might just have more in common with her than you think.” That is the difference between you and your best friend. She is so kind.. and you are.. you.
Coryo nods and stands up. “I think I know what I need to do.” He walks into his room with a short farewell.
“What do you think he’s going to do?” Tigris asks.
You furrow your brows. “If anyone knows, it’d be you.” Your best friend shakes her head.
“I may know him the best, but you two are basically the same people. What would you do if you were him?” You think for a moment. What would you do?
“Meet her at the train station.” You say with a nod. “Get her to trust me, and sing. Her singing is probably the only way he’s got a chance of winning.”
“You’re right.”
You sigh. “I just hope he is too.” With that, you stand up. “Well, I better get home. Love you, Tigris.” Your best friend stands up and hugs you.
“I love you too, N/N. Have a good night.”
You grab your bag which was on your chair and put it on your shoulder. “You too.”
The next morning, you wait for Coryo outside like you usually do, but when there was no sign of him five minutes before class started, you sprint to class.
You sat down next to Sejanus like usual. His face is full of confusion when Coriolanus doesn’t follow you.
“Where’s Coryo?”
“I don’t know, but I’ll be giving him an earful for not telling me I didn’t have to wait outside.” You whisper in response. You didn’t want all your classmates hearing the anger in your voice, but Sejanus knew you well, and besides, it wasn’t the first time Coryo made you mad.
He laughs. “Sure you will. I’ve never seen you actually yell at him. He gives you one look and you melt.”
You gape at him in offense. “I do not!” Sejanus goes to reply, but Dean Highbottom walks in, stealing all attention. He turns on the TV at the front of the room. It flicks on revealing Coriolanus and Lucy Gray Baird standing in a cage, holding hands. You are suddenly even angrier than before.
“…But this dress was my Mama’s, so it’s extra special to me.” Lucy says, showing off the skirt with her free hand.
“Mhm, and she’s in District 12?” Lucky, the reporter asks.
“Well only her bones, darlin’, only her bones.” Everything about her infuriates you. Her voice, her smile, her hair. “Do you know my mentor? Say’s his name’s Coriolanus Snow and clearly, I got the cake with the cream, ‘cause nobody else has even bothered to show up.” You curl your fists in your lap.
“Did the gamemakers tell you to jump in the cage with them?”
“They didn’t tell me not to.” You put your tongue in your cheek. ‘Didn’t tell you to hold her hand, either.’ You think to yourself. “They just said it was a mentor’s job to introduce our tributes to the citizens of Panem. And I thought, well, if Lucy Gray is brave enough to be here, then why shouldn’t I be, too?” Lucky hums.
“For the record, I didn’t have a choice.” Lucy Gray adds.
“For the record,” Lucky looks at a couple of Peacekeepers making their way to the cage. “I think you’re about to be whisked away, young man.” Before you could see anymore, the camera pans away, following Lucky as he signs off.
Thirty minutes later, Coryo waltzes into the classroom, he gives you a smile and you barely hold back a scowl.
“Your little excursion was in violation of about five different Academy rules, Mr. Snow.” Dean Highbottom says. “Chief among them, endangering a Capitol student.” Coryo stops in his tracks, about to sit down in his seat beside you.
“What, who?”
“You. I’m moving for the Gamemakers to disqualify you immediately.”
Coryo sits down. “You said we had to get our tributes to perform, not that we had to stay away.”
“I’ll add insubordination onto the list.”
“Holding her hand, Coryo, introducing her to people, you make it look as if we’re one and the same as those people.” Clemensia spits. Although you agree with her, you stay quiet.
Sejanus scoffs. “Coriolanus didn’t show those people anything that they didn’t already know—“
“I don’t need your help, Sejanus.”
“—That the tributes are human beings. Just like us. That’s why nobody wants to watch the games. It’s because people know deep down that winning a war 10 years ago doesn’t justify starving people’s children, taking away their freedom, their rights.”
“Snow fell down in the cage. It fell in the cage, but landed..” You look over to see Dr. Gaul in the doorway. She wears the same smug smile she always wears.
“On stage.” Coryo finishes her riddle.
“You’re good at games. Maybe one day you’ll be a gamemaker like me.”
“If the games continue at all.” Sejanus mumbles.
“Oh they’ll continue with performances like young Mr. Snow’s in that zoo. And I came here to ask your star mentor a question.” We all wait in anticipation. “What are the Hunger Games for?” Instead of waiting for Coryo to reply, you turn to the book on the table and read, blocking out the sounds of Sejanus and Dr. Gaul arguing.
After class, you leave as quickly as possible, ignoring Coryo as he tries to stop you. When he stops, you glance back to see him frowning at you. A pang of guilt racks you, but you continue walking away. You knew it’d be bad to confront him now, you were more angry that Lucy Gray got his attention so quickly than anything. And you knew Coryo would see that.
You are able to avoid him until you are on your way to lunch, and he pulls you into a classroom.
“Why have you been avoiding me?”
You sigh. “I’m hungry, Coriolanus. I know you are too, let’s go to lunch, please?” You move to open the door but he moves in front of it.
“What is your problem?”
“What’s yours?”
“My problem is that you’re ignoring me! And you didn’t defend me to Highbottom!”
You roll your eyes. “You told Sejanus not to.”
“You’re not Sejanus.”
You scoff. “Yeah well you were treating me like him.”
Coryo scrunches his face up. “What?”
“No warning this morning? I waited outside for you for thirty minutes.” You start. “And imagine my surprise, when I finally do go to class, that you blew me off for some district scum!” You spit. Coriolanus stares at you in shock. A second passes before you realize what you said. “I didn’t.. they aren’t scum, I didn’t mean that.” You rush out.
“You did mean it.” It’s like a switch is flipped, and you can’t help but feel drawn to this side of him. A smirk slowly appears on his face. He takes a step towards you. “You know how much I need the prize, Y/N. Forgive me for not telling you?” He takes another step, and you back up, crossing your arms. “You know I’d never purposely blow you off for Lucy Gray.” He reaches his hand up to your face. A foreign gesture. Butterflies erupt in your stomach. “Why don’t you come to the zoo with me later?” He gives you his signature smile and you melt.
With a sigh, you nod. “Fine, whatever.”
“Come on, wouldn’t want anyone catching us here alone, rumors may start.” You squint your eyes at your friend, was he flirting with you? “Lunch?” He offers you his arm, and you loop your own through it.
In the cafeteria, you and Coryo sit at a table across from one another. You eat in silence, while Coryo tries to put food in his pocket.
“Trying to fatten that girl up so you can finally start taking bets?” Sejanus asks, sitting in the other chair at the table.
“You think they’ll give those kids a scrap if we don’t give them a reason to do it? How do you think your tribute will have a chance if he can’t eat?” You reply, defending Coryo.
Sejanus looks at the blonde boy. “I see you’ve already gotten back into Y/N’s good graces.” You roll your eyes, Coryo smiles slightly. Sejanus turns back to you. “He was my classmate, back in 2.”
“It’s not your fault it’s him.”
“See, I know. I’m so blameless, I’m choking on it.” He looks at his tray. “My Father bought him for me, you know, at the Reaping, just so he could show me that I could never go back..But being Capitol is going to change me.” He admits quietly.
“So do something about it.” You say.
“Quite the rebel.” Sejanus jokes.
“Oh yeah, N/N’s bad news.” Coryo says with a nod. You laugh.
Later, you and the boys go to the zoo. Sejanus immediately tries to talk to Marcus, while you and Coryo look for Lucy Gray.
“Lucy Gray!” The blonde calls out as you approach the cage. “This is Y/N Rose, a good friend of mine.”
“Well hello there, Y/N.” It takes everything in you to smile.
“Hi, quite a show you put on at the Reaping. Beautiful voice.”
She tilts her head to the side with a smile. “Oh stop, you’ll make me blush.” Coryo pulls the food out of his pocket. “That for us? Jessup!” You furrow your brows. What was she doing?
“I’m not hungry.” A boy, the other tribute from 12, replies.
“Do you think I can’t hear your stomach growling, Jessup Diggs? Come on.” Jessup gets up and takes half of the food, and then sits back down.
You wince, seeing a nasty bite on his neck. “What happened to his neck?” You ask.
“A bat bite. The first night on the train, he didn’t sleep a wink the whole journey ‘cause he was keeping the bats off me so I would get some rest.” Noble. ‘Is he not aware of the whole fighting to the death thing?’ You wonder.
“Can you take it?” You look over to see Arachne taunting a tribute. “Come on, try harder than that.”
“One thing I learned in twelve, is that hunger is a weapon.” She gestures to Arachne. “Your friend over there sure knows it.”
“She isn’t our friend.” Coryo says quickly.
“She’s poison with perfect teeth.” You roll your eyes.
“Are you going to share everything that I give you with Jessup?”
“Why? You think I ought to build up my strength so I can strangle him in the arena?” She laughs. “Not exactly my forte.”
“I might have a chance to help you, make some suggestions to the gamemakers. I might even be able to get the audience to send you gifts in the arena. Food and water to keep you going.” He pauses. “You just have to try singing again to win people over.”
Lucy Gray crosses her arms. “I don’t sing when I’m told, I sing when I’ve got something to say. Besides, I’ve seen your arena, there’s no place to hide.”
“What’s your point?”
“The guards say you get money if you get more people to watch and you say you wanna help me, so which one is it?” You look at Coryo, wanting to hear his answer. Knowing he would say he wants to help her, but hoping that he’d crush her instead.
“Both.” You look down to conceal your smile.
“One more time!” Arachne yells.
“I’m not playing this game.” The tribute replies.
“Come on!”
“You shut up.” She growls.
“Uh.. No, thank you. I saw you staring.”
“Please.”
“Give me something. I’ve been sitting here for 15 minutes!”
“Always thought there was plenty of food in the Capitol.” Lucy Gray says, staring at Arachne and the tribute.
“You know, one time, during the war, I ate a whole jar of paste just to take away the ache.” You look at Coryo sadly. You remembered that day,
“How was it?”
“Pasty.” You smile.
“That little one, she’s so sweet. So young.” Lucy Gray points at a young girl sitting on a rock. “Something about her reminds me of my cousin Maude Ivory. I can’t stand to think of them without me.”
“I’m sorry.” Coryo replies.
She gives you both a pained smile. “You two seem like a good match.”
You shake your head. “Oh— Well—“
“Thank you.” Coryo interrupts you. You glance at him, but his face gives nothing away. You aren’t sure what was happening with Coriolanus, was he trying to hint at something?
“Come on, just take it.” Arachne taunts again. This time, the tribute takes the bottle, and breaks it. She then uses the broken bottle to slit Arachne’s throat.
You gasp. “Oh my—“  You grab onto Coryo, He pushes you behind some peacekeepers as he runs for Arachne. “Coryo! Stop— What are you doing!?” Fear racks your body, and your eyes fill with tears as the peacekeepers start firing without a target. The tribute that slit Arachne’s throat fell, being shot at least twice. Peacekeepers forcefully remove Coriolanus from Arachne while others grab her body. You run over to Coryo and hug him tightly. “A-Are you okay? Were you shot?” You pull away and scan him.
“I’m fine, were you hurt?” You shake your head and hug him again.
That night, you sat on the Snow’s couch, Tigris’s arms around you, completely silent.
“It’s starting again. This is how it begins, the war.” The Grandma’am says.
“It was my fault.” Coriolanus replies quietly. “I suggested that we meet the tributes.”
“You’re just lucky that your songbird didn’t peck out your eyes, too.”
“She’s not a rebel, Grandma’am. She’s just a girl.” Tigris argues.
The old woman laughs. “Trust me, that one hasn’t been a girl in a long time. Outside this Capitol, they’re savages, one and all. However they may smile, she will use you. You must use her too, or you’ll end up dead in the trees like your Father.” You reach out and put a hand on Coryo’s shoulder. He doesn’t react, and the four of you sit in silence for a moment.
“I should go home, see my parents.” You give a pained smile. “Can’t spend my whole life here.” Tigris smiles at you. “I’ll stop by tomorrow with dinner.” You stand up, giving Tigris a quick hug, and then giving the Grandma’am a kiss on the cheek.
The next day was even worse. All of the mentors went to the arena with their tributes, and after five minutes, the arena was bombed by rebels. You didn't even know until Sejanus came knocking on your door hours later to tell you that Coriolanus was injured. You ran to the hospital.
“Tigris!” You whisper-shout when you walk in. She quickly stands up and rushes over to you. “How is he?”
She engulfs you in a hug. “Okay. Nothing is broken.” You let out a breath of relief. You let go of her and walk to the side of his bed where two chairs were. You sit in one of them, Tigris going to sit in the other. You look at him sleeping soundly, he looked fine.
A tear falls down your face, but you quickly wipe it away. “How long has he been asleep?”
“Couple of hours, he passed out after Lucy Gray saved him.” Your neck snaps to Tigris.
“She saved him?”
Your best friend nods. “Something collapsed on his leg, she lifted it for him, got him out.”
You furrow your brows. “I’ll be back.” You kiss Tigris’s cheek. “There’s food in my bag, eat some?” She nods. You rush out, heading straight for the zoo.
“Lucy Gray!” You yell when you get there. It was starting to get dark, so there were more peacekeepers than usual. “Lucy Gray Baird!” You call out again. Finally, the girl pops her head up from behind a rock, her face morphs into confusion when she sees you, but she stands and walks towards you.
“Y/N? What are you doing here?”
“You saved him.” She nods slowly. Tears pool in your eyes again. “They said he may not wake up until tomorrow.” The tribute deflates.
“Well.. I appreciate you telli—“
“Do you need anything?” You interrupt, swallowing your pride.
“Well.. Coriolanus said he’d get me a guitar for the interview tomorrow night.” You nod.
“I’ll get it for you, and if he doesn’t make it to the interview I’ll have Sejanus, he’s the boy from 2’s mentor, give it to you.”
“I appreciate that, but, aren’t I competition? Why would he help me out?”
“Sejanus doesn’t see things like we do. Plus, his tribute escaped, he’s already lost the prize.”
“Okay then. I appreciate you, Y/N Rose.” You nod.
“Sleep as well as you can.. I know it’s hard on the ground, but..” You pause. “Coryo needs this prize.” Lucy Gray cocks her head to the side.
“Don’t you mean I need to win the games?”
You shrug. “They go hand in hand.”
“Hm.” She nods. “You have a good night, Rose.” You turn around with a wave, and head back to the hospital.
“Where’d you go?” Tigris asks as you sit beside her.
“Zoo. Needed to make sure Lucy Gray was taken care of.” She nods. “Has he woken up yet?”
Tigris smiles. “For a minute. He asked about you.”
You glance at Tigris, trying to not sound so eager. “What did he say?”
“He wanted to make sure someone had told you, and then he wanted to know where you were. I told him you ran home to change.”
You nod.  “Thanks.” You look at the clock on the wall. It was already eight. “If you want to go home, you can. I know you have work tomorrow. I’ll stay here.”
“Are you sure?”
You nod. “I told my Mom I would be at yours all night.”
“You’re an angel.” She hugs you. “Get some rest, N/N.”
“You too.”
Tigris came back a few hours later so you could actually go home and change, but then she had work. You sit with Coryo all day. Your Mother stops by around three to drop off some food.
“Are you coming home tonight?” She asks.
You glance up from the food. “Probably not, doc said Coriolanus would be up soon, so I’ll probably help Tigris look after him tonight. She does work, so she’ll need to rest.”
“The Games are tomorrow, Y/N. You need to get some rest too.”
“Oh! Speaking of, Lucy Gray needs a guitar for an interview. It’d be a shame to buy a new one since.. Well, since she won’t be around to enjoy it. Would you mind getting Tessa’s and giving it to Sejanus when he goes?”
She tilts her head to the side. “Does your sister know about this?”
“She will when you tell her?” You scrunch your shoulders up and give her a smile.
Your Mom huffs. “Fine. What time will Sejanus be at the house?”
“In an hour.”
“Okay. I love you.”
“Yeah, you too.” She leans down and kisses your cheek, you return the gesture, she then leaves.
Two hours later, Sejanus walks in.
“Y/N? Hey.” You glance up from the pants you’re sewing.
“Oh, hello, Sejanus.” You place the pants on the table beside you, carefully placing the needle on top. “Why aren’t you at the interview?”
He shrugs and sits down beside you. “Wanted to watch it with him, I guess. And you. You guys are my best friends.” ‘What? He barely knows me.’ You think to yourself. You smile.
“Oh, alright then.” You grab the remote and turn on the TV. The interviews were about to start.
“Has he woken up yet?”
“Once last night. I was at the zoo, but Tigris was here.”
“Speaking of, where is she?”
“Work. Did you get the guitar?”
He nods. “Yes! Lucy Gray is ready.”
You give him a small smile. “Good. Thank you.”
He shrugs. “I want him to win the prize. I dunno how I’d survive University without you both.” You nod and turn to the TV, the girl from district 3 was being interviewed. She was the first, since all of the tributes from 1 and 2 were dead or, in the boy from 2’s case, on the run.
You and Sejanus watched in silence until the girl from 11 came on stage, and Coryo started stirring.
“Coryo?” You stand up and stand at the edge of his bed. He slowly opens his eyes.
“Y/N?”
You grin. “Coryo! Right on time, Lucy Gray is almost up.” You nod to the TV.
“How’re you feeling?” Sejanus asks, standing.
“Fine, really. So, they’re actually going on with the Games?” Sejanus nods. “Wow.”
“I first met this young lady in the zoo not too long ago,” You glance at the TV, Lucky was about to introduce Lucy Gray.
“She’s coming on.” You tell them, sitting down on the edge of the bed.
“From District 12, Lucy Gray Baird! Get over here with that guitar, you songbird!” Lucy Gray walks on wearing your sister’s guitar.
“Did you get her that?” Coriolanus asks. You glance back and smile.
“I went to thank her for saving you, she mentioned you were going to get her one.” He smiles back at you, searching your eyes. “You’re very welcome.” You wink and turn back to the TV.
“…We fell on hard times, and we lost our bright colours, you went to the dogs and I lived by my charms.” Lucy Gray sings. The donations start going up.
You reach back and place a hand on Coryo’s forearm. A moment passes, as you watch the donations pile up, Coryo slowly moves his arm and slots your fingers together. Butterflies erupt in your stomach.
“…So who will you turn to tomorrow, I wonder? For when the bell rings, lover, you’re on your own.”
“It’s working.” Coryo says, breathing a laugh.
“Of course it is.” You look back at your friend with a grin. “Snow lands on top.”
He smirks. “Snow lands on top.”
The interview ends and Sejanus leaves soon after, leaving you alone with Coryo.
“I brought you food, it’s cold now, but I can get it heated up for you.” You tell your friend as you turn to him.
“Y/N, thank you… For everything you’ve done to help me.”
You smile and squeeze his hand. “You and Tigris are my best friends.”
“You’re my best friend too.” He hesitantly sits up. “Will you help me get home?”
“Sure, you need to get some rest, big day tomorrow.” You stand up. “I’ll go tell a nurse.”
The next day was the start of The Hunger Games. You got up especially early so that you could have breakfast at the Snow’s and then go with Coriolanus to watch the games.
“Tigris? Coryo?” You call out, entering the penthouse.
“Hello, Y/N.” The Grandma’am says from the table.
You walk over with a smile. “Good Morning! How did you sleep?”
She shakes her head. “I barely slept. Whispers of another rebellion keep me up.”
You give her a sympathetic look. “I’ll keep you safe if there is one. You can come with me to my family’s bunker.” The Grandma’am gives you a wary look as if you couldn’t be trusted. She did that with everyone these days, although she had yet to do it to you too.
“Good morning!” You hear Tigris say as she leaves her room.
“Morning. I brought food.” You open your bag and pull out containers.
“Of course you did.” She sits down beside you. “How did you sleep?”
“Fine, I’m nervous for today.” Tigris frowns, as if she’d forgotten what today is. Coryo steps out of his room a second later.
“Good Morning.” He sits down beside The Grandma’am, giving her a kiss on the cheek. There are circles under his eyes.
You give each of them a portion of the food you brought. “Someone didn’t sleep.” You tease.
“I went to see Lucy Gray last night.”
You furrow your brows. “After I left?” He nods. Why would he do that? “Too bad you didn’t tell me. I would’ve loved to see her one more time.” Tigris’s eyes flicker between you two.
“You don’t think she’ll win?” No.
You smile sweetly. “Of course I do, Coryo. But when she does she’ll be shipped back to 12. We’ll probably never see her again.” Coryo seems to believe you, and sinks into his seat. Your stomach aches from jealousy.
A few minutes pass, and once all of you are done eating, you stand. “Well, I think we ought to be on our way.” Coryo nods, and stands up as well. “See you soon, T.”
“Have a good day, I’ll be watching from work!” Tigris stands up and gives you and Coryo each a kiss on the cheek.
When you walk downstairs there’s a car waiting for you like usual. You slide into the backseat and Coriolanus follows. Once you’re both buckled, you close the privacy screen between you and the driver.
“Why did you go alone last night?” You ask suddenly.
Coryo raises his eyebrows. “I felt like I needed to tell her thank you, like you did.”
“All alone at night?” You chastise. “Did you learn nothing from Arachne? You could have been killed!”
He scoffs. “They’re in a cage.”
“The Peacekeepers aren’t.”
“The Peacekeepers aren’t going to shoot me.”
“Not purposely but they’re awful shots! You saw what they did when Arachne was attacked, why did you put yourself in that position?”
He sighs. “I was giving her something.” He admits. “She isn’t going to win on her own, so I gave her something, is that what you wanted to hear?”
You blink at him in surprise. “What did you give her?”
“It’s best if you don’t know. If Highbottom finds out I don’t want you dragged into it.”
“But I want to be dragged into it. Coryo, do you know what they’ll do to you if they find this out?”
Your friend scowls. “Of course I know. But this is the only way I have a chance at winning.”
“Coryo, you’ve already completed the assignment. Lucy Gray is a spectacle.”
“You and I both know he won’t give it to me unless she wins so just forget about it.” You frown and scoot closer to him, laying your head down on his shoulder.
“Maybe I should just save up my allowance for a while and I could give it to you–”
“No, Y/N–”
“It wouldn’t cover the whole thing but it’d make a dent in the tuition at least.”
“No. I’m not letting you do that.”
You can feel tears filling your eyes. “Then Lucy Gray has to win. I won’t survive The University without you.”
He grabs one of your hands. “She will.”
You walked into The Academy hand in hand with Coryo, you tried to let go before you got out of the car, thinking he wouldn’t want people to see, but he just picked it back up.
When you walked into the room the games were being viewed in, Dean Highbottom walked up to you. “That friend of yours, Plinth,” He starts, nodding to Sejanus who was talking to another classmate of yours. “You might want to find him a seat near the door.” He grimaces before walking away.
“Weird.” You mumble.
“Coryo, Y/N!” Sejanus calls. He walks up to you both.
“Hey.” Coryo replies, his face stone.
“How’re you doing? You alright?”
The blonde nods. “Better.”
Sejanus grimaces. “Tell me this will be over quickly.” The screen in front of the room turns on revealing some tributes.
“We should take our seats.” You say. You turn to Coryo with a smile. “Good luck.” You squeeze his hand and then walk over to the viewing stands.
“Everyone, as you know, we’re about to go live.” Lucky starts. “Just because you’re not hosting doesn’t mean you're off the hook, help me! Don’t get lost behind your screens. No yawning, no gum chewing, keep your chins down, heads up, shoulders back, and smile! It's why we have teeth.” He grins. “Okay, ready? We’re gonna start guys. Five, four, three, two…” An orchestra plays and the cameras turn on. “Good morning, I’m Lucretius “Lucky” Flickerman. A man who needs no introduction. Weatherman, amateur magician, and today, I’m honored to say, first ever host of The Hunger Games!” Everyone breaks into applause, you join in, clapping unenthusiastically. “In my hand, an envelope, sealed. My prediction, the winner, will be opened by me, at the end of the big show’s end.” He brings his hand up to his ear. “We’re getting word… alright, we’re about to start! We’re starting everyone! Happy Hunger Games!” He turns to the students. “Remember, when your tribute dies, get out.”
You can hear the Tributes entering the arena, and reluctantly walking to their marks. Then, you see something else. Marcus was tied up, half dead, in the middle of the Arena. You gasp with the rest of the room.
Sejanus stands up in shock. “Marcus!” He yells.
Lucky grimaces. “Guess we can all sleep better now that we know he’s off the streets!”
“You’re monsters!” Sejanus shouts at the Dean. “All of you!” He runs out. The countdown starts at ten. You sit up straighter.
“Jessup! Jessup!” Lucy Gray shouts. You furrow your brows. Everyone around her started running to the pile of weapons in the middle of the Arena.
“What is she doing?” You mumble. Reaper, the biggest tribute, runs straight at Lucy Gray with a scythe, but she ducks. Then Coral, the girl tribute from 4 runs at her with a trident. She dodges the first and second blows before backing up and dodging the third, causing Coral to impale another tribute through the stomach.
One of your classmates leans down and throws up. You scrunch up your face in disgust.
Two tributes were already dead. Lucy Gray rolls off of the rubble, narrowly missing an axe swung by the boy from 7. She stands up and manages to get away from two more strikes before someone throws a knife, hitting the boy's arm. Another knife is thrown way too close to Lucy Gray.
She looks around, finally finding Jessup across the arena. She screams his name again and climbs on top of the rubble, knocking out one of the other tributes with her elbow once she gets up. She rolls off the other side, making brief eye contact with Coral, who pulls her trident out of someone’s chest.
Lucy Gray reaches Jessup and pulls him up, shouting about how they had to go now. Some of the other tributes already started chasing them, but Lucy Gray manages to run into some of the tunnels, dragging Jessup with her.
“They’ve gone underground quickly, but we’ve prepared for this!” The cameras switch and you can see Lucy Gray again.
They run through the tunnels, checking all the doors that they pass. Every single one is locked.
“What you’re seeing now, is a live feed of security cameras.”
“C’mon..” You grip the bench.
Coral and her group enter the tunnels, and Lucy Gray starts frantically looking for some hiding place. She finally gets through a small entrance on the bottom of a door, then, she pulls Jessup through it.
Two other tributes are found by Coral’s group in the tunnels. They are slaughtered on sight.
“Do you think they’re done?” One of your classmates asks.
“Looks like it.” Lucky turns to the cameras. “To the children watching, that was violent, horrific, and disgusting.” He turns to the girl that threw up. “Ms. Phipps, please, if you’re going to vomit, do it off camera.” He gives her a pitiful smile and then looks at the camera. “Thirteen tributes still remain. Reaper still looming large on top of the charts, while Coral and her pack try to make a play. Six tributes gone in minutes. If they keep it going up at this pace, we’re gonna be outta here in no time!” He then starts giving the weather report.
You stand up and walk over to Coryo’s seat, placing a hand on his shoulder.
“She survived the worst part of the games, who's to say she won’t survive the rest?” You give him a lazy smile which he returns.
“Rose, back to your seat. The rules for spectators are very clear.” Highbottom reprimands. You nod at the dean and squeeze Coryo’s shoulder before walking away.
You stay there until 8, when all viewers are forced to leave.  You give Coryo a small wave and a smile before you leave, he only waves in response. He looks exhausted.
At midnight, Dr. Gaul shows up on your doorstep.
“You need to come with me, now.”
You squint your eyes. “Why?”
“It’s about your friend.”
Your brows furrow in concern. “Is it Coryo? Is he okay?” Was he caught? Was Dr. Gaul here to bring you in for questioning?
“Mr. Snow is fine, it’s Sejanus Plinth that’s in trouble. I don’t know how he broke in, or who he bribed, but Sejanus Plinth is currently in The Hunger Games arena and I need you and ‘Coryo’ to get him out.”
You sigh. You always did have a feeling this ‘friendship’ with Sejanus was going to end up costing more than it’s worth. “Fine. Let’s go.”
Dr. Gaul ends up taking you to a car that Coryo was already sitting in. She doesn’t blink twice when you sit next to him, or when he holds your hand, something that’s become a daily thing at this point.
When you arrive at the arena, you and Coryo are ushered through the gate. You both wince at the turnstile as you walk through it, it was loud enough without the voice announcing, “Enjoy the show” for all of the tributes to hear.
Coryo pulls you closer to him and you put up no fight. You walk towards Sejanus as fast and as quiet as you can. You’re incredibly paranoid, frantically looking around you at all times.
“Thought they’d send my Ma.” He murmurs when you get close.
“We wish they had.” You reply, venom lacing your voice. Sejanus didn’t even flinch.
“You guys need to go.”
“We’d like to, we really would. But we promised we’d get you out.”
“Why?”
“Because you're our friend.” Coryo says. You want to say ‘Speak for yourself!’ but you don’t.
“I had to do this. I had to go where the cameras are.” His voice breaks.
“Do you actually think anyone is watching this?” You butt in. “Gaul cut the feed.”
“Tributes kill you in here and she’s just going to say it’s the flu.” Coryo’s tone was startling. It was vicious. You barely had a chance to react when you heard a footstep. “You need to decide right now. Do you wanna fight these tributes, or fight for them? Because if you’re going to make real change, you have to stay alive.”
“How can I make any change from out there?”
“You’re rich, and smart, and you care.” You reply shakily. You need to get out of there. Every bone in your body is screaming at you to run.
Coryo nods. “You’re the only one in that class who stood up to Gaul, right?” You can hear metal scraping, and though you try to convince yourself it wasn’t a knife, you still cling to Coryo’s arm. “We’re dead right now if we don’t leave. Come with us, spend your Father’s money on some good, or just be another dead body in Dr. Gaul’s war.” You can’t open your mouth to voice your desperation to leave, so you continue to look around. “Trust me, please.”
Then you hear it. A boy tribute was shouting at you as he ran towards you with a knife.
“Run!” Sejanus yells. You book it to the exit, but you were the slowest out of the three of you. Coryo’s grip on your hand remained tight as you all ran.
As you get to the turnstiles, the tribute grabs your other hand, causing you to scream. He plunges his knife into your hand making blood spray everywhere, and you barely acknowledge it before Coryo grabs a plank of wood and hits the Tribute over the head. He hits him with all his force four times. You weren’t sure which one was the killing blow. You didn’t think about it for long, either, because as soon as Coryo started to pull you again, you realized that the knife was still in your hand, and blood was still gushing from it.
You lean on Coryo in the car ride to Dr. Gaul’s office. You can barely stay awake, but both your friend and the esteemed Gamemaker insist that you stay conscious. Something about blood loss. You scarcely remember anything leading up to your arrival at Dr. Gaul’s office; Just that you were given some blood in an IV, stitched up, and given some morphling for the pain. Thankfully, you were right as rain once the adrenaline went down. You were exhausted, yes, but back in your right mind.
You walk outside of Dr. Gaul’s office to find Coryo waiting on a couch.
“Are you waiting on me?” You ask. He looks up at you, as if he hadn’t noticed you yet. You tilt your head at him, but he just stands up and walks over to you.
“You’re okay.” The blonde places a hand on your cheek, you lean into it.
“I am. I’m very tired, and my hand hurts, but I’ll be okay in the morning.”
He lets out a breath of relief. “Good. That’s good.”
“Don’t you have to get back to the Academy?”
He nods. “I’m going to walk you home first.”
You shake your head, but a smile tugs at your mouth. “You don’t have to do that.”
“I do. You lost a lot of blood, and I won’t be able to forgive myself if something else happens to you.”
You furrow your brows. “Coryo.. This wasn’t your fault.”
“I should have told her not to send you in.”
“You think she would have listened to you?” You laugh. “You’re charming, Snow, but I don’t think your smile can capture Dr. Gaul.”
He smirks.“What’s this about my smile?”
You roll your eyes to try and seem annoyed, but your smile betrays you. “There’s the Coriolanus I know. Welcome back Mr. President, I missed you.”
“Happy to be back.”
You giggle. “I’m sure you are.” His eyes flicker to your lips. You lean in slightly, begging him to kiss you. He listens to you. It’s three seconds long, you wish it lasted forever. Butterflies flew in your stomach, dancing in joy.
“You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to do that.” He whispers.
You snicker. “Please, I’ve had feelings for you since I was twelve.” You accidentally confess.
Coryo’s smirk grows. “Really?”
Your face drops. “No. I never said that.”
“Which part? That you have feelings for me, or that you’ve had them since you were twelve?” You cringe.
“Yes?”
“Oh well, no going back on it now.”
“I think there is.”
“I’ve had feelings for you since I was sixteen.”
You tilt your head to the side in faux surprise. “Only two years!?” You shake your head. “You have some catching up to do.” Coryo laughs, and leans in to kiss you again. You reciprocate immediately.
You walked back to the penthouses hand in hand, something that Tigris immediately clocked when you stepped into their home. Previously, Coryo waited till you were outside to pick up your hand. She gave you a secretive grin, saying that she needed you to tell her everything, you gave her a nod.
“Why are you back so late?” Tigris asks you.
“Dr. Gaul sent us in the Arena tonight, Tigris.” You let go of Coryo’s hand to take off your coat. You look at him in time to see his face fall at the mention of the arena. How could you have forgotten what he had to do there? You silently curse yourself.
Tigris’ face suddenly gets serious.“What?”
You and Coryo sit across from Tigris. “To get Sejanus out.”
“What happened, are you guys okay?”
Coryo replies this time. “I killed one of the tributes. A boy.” You grab his hand again.
“That must have been awful.” She says, grasping her chest.
“It was.” He pauses. “Then it felt.. powerful.” You don’t respond, but he sees something shimmer in your eyes. Something that tells him you’re not afraid of him.
“Coryo,” Tigris starts, he finds the total opposite response in her eyes. “I know you want to be like your Father, but what I remember most about him, was that in his eyes, the only thing there was hate.” She pauses. “You don’t have to pay the same price to survive. You can be good.” Coryo scoffs. “You are good. Believe that, believe me.”
“I’m going to go back to the Academy.” He stands up, giving you both a kiss on the cheek before leaving.
“What was that? Holding hands, kissing on the cheek? He doesn’t usually do that.”
You smile slightly, looking at your lap. “I dunno. Lately things have been different, he’s been holding my hand a lot.. and today he killed that tribute for me.”
“What?”
You nod and hold up your bandaged hand. “I think his name was Bobbin? He stabbed my hand when we tried to leave.. Then he was on the ground, and Coryo was over him with a plank of wood. Next thing I know I’m walking out of Dr. Gaul’s office.” You leave out the kiss. The timing wasn't right.
“Wow. I’m so glad he was there.” Tigris pulls you in for a hug. “I’m even happier you’re okay. I couldn’t stand to lose you.”
The next morning you were back at the Academy as soon as they let people back into the viewing room. You aren’t allowed to talk to Coryo this time, but he nodded to you when you walked in, and you smiled at him as you sat behind him.
“Wakey, wakey, my Capitol friends! I’m Lucky Flickerman and welcome to day two of The 10th Annual Hunger Games! Now, while most of you were getting your sleep last night, something scintillating happened. Bobbin from District 8, slaughtered. Which one of these beasts killed Bobbin? Well it doesn’t matter. Reaper is still at the top of the boards,”
As Lucky drones on, a classmate of yours Lyssie, pipes up. “Why aren’t they showing us who killed the little boy? It doesn’t make sense, he was killed right there and there are clearly cameras surrounding him.” You tense up as she wonders aloud. She was Bobbin’s tribute.
“They said they were old, Lyssie. Probably just another one of Coral’s gang.” Festus replies, shrugging.
The cameras cut to Lucy Gray and Jessup, still in the same spot they were when you left last night. Jessup gasps, waking up Lucy Gray. He starts frothing at the mouth, and you furrow your brows.
“What did you do to me?” He asks.
“Nothing!” Lucy Gray yells back.
“Lyssie, what is he doing?” Coryo demands.
The girl stares at the screen in confusion. “Something’s wrong. He wouldn’t turn on her like this.” Lucy Gray stands up and starts running, leaving the room she’s in, and the tunnels.
“Go to the stands.. Go to the stands!” Coryo shouts at the screen.
“Stop running! What did you..” Jessup groans. “What did you do to me?” Lucy Gray starts to run across the arena.
“I didn’t do anything!” She reaches a pile of debris and starts climbing one of the collapsed pillars. It flicks to Jessup’s face again, as foam drips out of his mouth, he starts to climb the pillar too.
“The foam! The posters from the war— Rabies!” You yell, barely being able to construct a sentence.
“Y/N is right. Send him water.” Coryo tells Lyssie.
“Wait what?”
“You remember those posters in the war?” She nods. “Rabies makes you afraid of water. Send him a drone.”
“It’ll scare him!” That was true. Yesterday, the only drone that was sent went haywire, dropping the water on the tribute.
“Yes, away from her. Jessup is done, Lyssie, you’re the only one who can get it right to him.” She bites her cheek, but looks down at her computer and selects the water. “Thank you.”
“It’s nothing to be proud of.” The drone flies in.
“What’s wrong with me? What did you do to me?” Jessup gets dangerously close to Lucy Gray, but the drone hits him, breaking the bottle of water, and splashing all over him. He backs up off of the pillar with a scream. Lucy Gray climbs down and leans over him.
“Jessup? I’m not going anywhere, okay? You watched over me, now I’m going to watch over you. Sleep, Jessup, sleep now.” The boy whimpers.
Suddenly, Coral’s group enters the middle, slowly walking towards Lucy Gray. They circle her, spouting taunts.
“Oh look at that, the pack doing what it does best. Packing it in.” Lucky narrates. “Lucy Gray is cornered, Mr. Snow going for his communipad.” You look at Coryo’s screen to see him sending ten waters to Lucy Gray. The drones fly in, hitting the group. A bunch of the waters break, causing dust to stir in the air, and broken glass to be thrown everywhere. Lucy Gray runs over to a fan, maneuvering it open, and then shutting it.
“These drones aren’t very good.” Coryo says, acting innocent. You grin.
“Hey! You can’t attack the tributes!” Festus yells.
“I’m just sending water.”
You look back at the screen. Lucy Gray leaves the air duct, running to the water, and placing down the one she brought with her, dumping out all the rest. She ran back to her hiding place immediately. Coral was killing the girl from District 2, while her group watched. When she was done, she walked over to the water. One of the other Tributes held the last one in his hand, about to take a drink.
“Hey, do you really think you deserve that water, right now, Tanner?” A sound from across the arena interrupts them. Wovey, another tribute, ran into the tunnels. “This should be fun.” Coral says as she runs after her. The group follows her.
Once the door to that tunnel shuts, Dill, the youngest tribute in this Game, limps out from behind some debris.
“Ah, what do we have here? Oh! It’s Ill Dill, tuberculosis on legs.” She goes to the water and takes a sip. A second passes before she starts coughing, a common plague with her. This time, however, she doesn’t stop. She coughs, and coughs, until blood splatters from her mouth, and she falls back onto the ground, dead. You put your hand on your chest, to seem upset.
Reaper jogs up to her, calling out her name. He leans down over her for a moment, shaking her, crying. When he stands up, he brings her body to the center of the arena, he goes around bringing every body over to the center, piling them. He then gets up and walks over to one of the flags hanging, grabs it, and pulls. It falls down with ease, you weren’t even sure how it managed to stay up throughout the bombing.
He lays it over the bodies and falls to his knees. “Are you going to punish me now!?” Reaper screams into the sky. “Are you—“
“Capitol students,” The screen switches to a different broadcast, revealing Dr. Gaul. “I’m afraid I must interrupt our Games to announce a tragic loss, one that affects us all. Felix Ravinstill, the son of our beloved president, has, this morning, succumbed to his injuries sustained in the rebel bombing. Out there in the districts, they will be celebrating this young boy's death as a triumph. I will not allow my Games to give our enemy such a victory. I swear to you, here and now, before the sun goes down tonight, a rainbow of destruction will engulf our arena. Even if it means there's to be no victor in these Games.” You furrow your brows. Coryo stands up, making eye contact with you before he looks at the Dean.
“I need to see Dr. Gaul immediately.” He didn’t say anything else before he left the room. You frown before turning back to the screen.
Thirty minutes later, Tigris arrives. Her hair was nicely curled and she wore a pink pantsuit made of dreams. She must have borrowed fabric from her boss, Fabricia.
“You look beautiful!” You say with a grin as you hug your best friend.
“Oh please, you should look at yourself.” She sits down beside you.
“I don’t hold a candle to you.”
She shakes her head. “Where’s Coryo?”
“He went to see Dr. Gaul, he’ll be back any minute.”
“Why’d he go see her?”
You shrug. “I expect we’ll find out in a few minutes.”
As if on cue, Coryo rushes back in seconds later. “Lucy Gray, is she okay?”
“She won’t be for long.” Festus replies.
“Wait, what’s wrong with Treech?”
You look at the screen, Treech suddenly starts coughing, just like Dill did before she died. You didn’t think anything of Dill’s death, but Treech was fine before. When he coughs up blood and falls to the floor, you know what happened. Coriolanus gave Lucy Gray rat poison. That’s why she left a water bottle. She must have put some in the water. Your mind is swirling with potential scenarios, if you’ve already found this out, Dr. Gaul definitely has.
You hear the wind start blowing, causing you to snap back to reality. Something was being lowered down into the arena, and Lucy Gray was finally out of the air vents. The huge cylinders get set down, and the drones fly off. They start to crack, before both cylinders break, and millions of colorful snakes fall out. You gasp.
Wovey comes out from her hiding spot, curious as to what everyone was so surprised about. “Is it over now? Can we go home?” The snakes went after her immediately.
“Wovey!” Reaper cried. “Wovey, no!” The little girl screams as the snakes wrap around her legs and bite down.
The arena bursts into chaos. Everyone remaining was taken by the snakes, all but Lucy Gray, who sat on the mountain of debris with snakes covering every inch of her body as she sang. They weren’t hostile towards her.
“It’s over! Dr. Gaul! Dr. Gaul you need to get her out of there!” Coryo screamed at the Gamemaker.
You stood, going over to Coryo. “Dr. Gaul, let her out, she won, you have to let her out.”
“It’s over!” The entire room shouts at her.
“Get her out.” The Gamemaker finally says.
“Yes!” The room cheers. You jump into Coryo’s arms, hugging him tightly.
“You did it!” You yell. You pull away and grab his face. “You did it, Coryo! You won!” He laughs.
“I won!” He places his forehead against yours, before backing up and giving Tigris a hug as well.
Later that night, you, Coryo, and Tigris opened a bottle of champagne in their living room.
“To Coriolanus Snow, winner of The 10th Annual Hunger Games!” You toast clinking your glasses together before taking a drink.
Tigris finishes her glass in one drink. “Okay, as much as I’d love to continue celebrating, I have work tomorrow so we’ll have to celebrate this weekend.” She stands up, kissing you both on the cheek. “Goodnight! Congratulations, Coryo.”
“Goodnight, T!”
“Goodnight.”
The second she disappeared behind her bedroom door, you set down your glass, then took Coryo’s to set his down as well.
“What are you doing?” You look at him, and lean in to kiss him. His hands instinctively go to your waist, and yours go to his shoulders. This kiss is longer than your previous ones, you savor each other as you move in sync.
When you break, giddy grins take over both of your faces. “I wasn’t able to do that before.” You say with a small shrug.
“Maybe you should do it again, you know, to make up for it.” You roll your eyes but lean in again.
Two hours later, you and Coryo were laying on the couch, silently looking at one another as you traced his features. “You’re so handsome, Coryo.”
“Thank you.” He cusps your cheek. “I don’t deserve you.” He whispers with a frown. “You’re so good, and I’m so.. awful.”
“If either of us are awful, it’s me.”
“You’re not awful.”
“I am. I didn’t even flinch when you killed that boy in the arena. I was.. happy that you defended me. And that’s only a bit of it.. I am rotten. You and Tigris are so much better than me.” Coryo sits up, causing you to also sit up, basically all the way on his lap.
“Not only did I kill someone, but I felt good while doing it. And I can’t tell myself I wouldn’t do it again. Especially if I’m defending you in the process.” He confesses.
“I think I’d do the same for you.” You reply.
You went home a few hours later, completely exhausted. You slept until twelve the next day, when Tigris barges into your room, yelling that Coryo is to be shipped off to District 12 in the morning. Your heart drops.

Even though I believe that Nettles should’ve had Addam’s part in the teaser (no shade to Addam but Nettles is more important and anticipated than him) I’m very optimistic their just fucking with us. Tons of other characters who are anticipated (alys, daeron, and cregan, jeyne arryn) weren’t there and characters who we know are returning in season 2 aren’t there (like rhaena and jace). As for Nettles allegedly being pushed back to season 3 I have mixed feelings. On one hand I’m very excited for her character and how’ll they’ll portray her so it’ll suck if they push her back, especially since Jace (who comes up with the idea for the dragonseeds) is going to die either late this season or early next season. I’ll definitely be pissed about it if the other dragonseeds are getting screen time and she’s no where to be seen. On the other hand there’s only eight episodes and I want a proper story arc. So if they need to (I don’t think they need to cause if they wanted to they could) push her back to give her that I guess I can’t do anything but wait. Because the last thing I want is for her story to be rushed or reduced to Daemons side piece. Thinking about it again damn that should’ve been Nettles in that trailer 🙄🫠. Hell at least we got an armored up Daemon and a warrior Baela as a consolation prize 😊
Yeah I’m still pissed because it should’ve been her, but yeah they did not feature any of the new characters besides him(still should’ve been Nettles she’s #1). It’s still just a teaser though.
Now if she’s actually been cut from the season that’s a big dummy move. Her arc should be top priority for the dragonseeds.
I mean how do you cut out/reduce the only surviving dragonseed who’s been in every single version of this story when others weren’t given the time of day?
How do you find the time to include everyone else and expand or change up character arcs yet there is no time for Nettles?
How do you single her out and push her story back to s3?
If you truly did not have the budget I can think of about 3-5 other characters they should’ve cut before her(Ulf White, Silver Denys, and that maid to name a few).
If Sara Snow is there and not her🙃
If you truly only had so much time you wouldn’t make up sh*t for Addam Velaryon, Hugh Hammer, and Diana the maid who doesn’t exist in the books.
You do not limit someone like Nettles. That’s not right.
Daemon and Baela were the best things about that trailer for me. Everything else was trash. I did enjoy seeing Alicent and Aemond, but it’s all trash.

may be used as a test muse page / 'only writing them if requested' muses page because I'm not making them a set of links like for the others but I'd love to write them: Lily Tabris, Ellana Lavellan and Solona Amell
okay but also I just want to say that I have a few other Dragon Age ladies that I love with all my heart, one of them being the city elf warrior Lily Tabris whom I'd love to write again, who was ferocious and too blunt and considered letting Denerim's human side burn (okay Alistair can stay close to her but he's on thin ice) (absolutely jumped on Zevran but also didn't know wtf to do when he got romantic first) (keeps the ring of the elf she was supposed to marry who died trying to uselessly save her when she was easily slaying the entire palace, it's a reminder that human nobles who are in charge of alienages should all be ripped to pieces). Her entire backstory is filled with things that are common triggers in rp so yeah. Complicated because she doesn't skirt away from the topics, she literally told the King she had just met that she had murdered a noble who had all intentions of r*ping her and her friends (see the triggering part) and left him speechless, that's the kind of person she is. Also a bit racist against humans, given the situation, but if one proves himself to be kind, like Alistair, she will not extend that to him, so maybe racist isn't the right word, maybe it's... prejudiced against a race that enslaves hers, but open to the fact that some humans have nothing to do with it? Difficult to get along with if you don't like people who are that blunt, and also won't keep to herself her disagreement. DESPITE EVERYTHING she still tries to help people, tries to save Connor (sends Morrigan after asking her if she can do it), saves the mages in the Circle, pushes Alistair to be king so he can make a change, kills Loghain herself. Later she'd be fighting for Elves rights all over Thedas. Very quiet and pissed off Warden Commander because Zevran apparently was busy elsewhere and when left by herself she reverts to grumpy as hell. Got the entire team to help. Will show up in DA2 to check on Anders despite him not being an elf because she's loyal to people who have fought with her. Will show up in DAI because she was contacted by Alistair who told her about weird Callings for all Wardens and wanted to look into it. There since Haven. LILY HEADCANONS.
Tumblr media
Ellana Lavellan, Inquisitor, would write her if I could remember ALL the specific events of Inquisition and if I had gotten to know all characters in other gameplays but she's my one and only inquisitor. If I ever do this will be her only introduction: absolutely made me think of Buffy when telling Corypheus to f*ck off and basically making a mountain of snow fall on them, flirted with Dorian so hard before finding out the truth and deciding he was her best friend (they can flirt anyway) so he gets privileges, doesn't mention for one second her clan and her grief when it gets wiped out so people are Concerned about what's up, romanced Cullen (step away from the Lyrium, buddy), all cute with him which goes from awkward flirting to jumping his bones, made Varric best friend number two, Solan was best friend number three and she wants to save him but if she can't she's going to kill him and also god does she feel betrayed, took Cole under her wing, sided with mages because she's a Dalish elf mage okay, she's still trying to figure out if Cassandra likes her,
Blackwall's betrayal also hurt her but... eh. Could've been worse. She feels they all did sh*t in their pasts. Which blatantly means she did sh*t she told no one about. She still doesn't know if Cassandra likes her (she does). Gets a little too along with Iron Bull. She absolutely did sh*t in her past. She hasn't told anyone about that yet. Was kept in a Dalish-version of prison for being a tremendous assh*le who stole and started fights and a problem child, got kicked out, was given another chance with the conclave because an aunt who has a soft spot for her punk niece decides to bring her and show her she can be more than a little criminal, but then what happens next changes her, and all the responsibilities put on her made her attitude shift very quickly into responsible leader. Basically your typical 'trying to be heroic and do the right thing with mild sarcasm and complaints' hero who turns out to have a crazy past they hardly ever mention. She couldn't bond with Vivienne because there really wasn't much time. She didn't bond with Sera because she's not very prank-y and she's an elf who takes offense to anyone who has anything to say about elves. She accidentally hardened Leliana??? she thought Leliana was already like that?? ELLANA HEADCANONS.
Tumblr media
Solona Amell, babe, human mage, she was having the time of her life even in the circle, didn't listen to a word they said about not wanting mages to have strong bonds with each other, is basically a puppy in human form, loves everything. Impossibly strong for no reason except that I used mods to play with her so she's like the angel of death or something, shakes a hand and all the enemies go down. she's basically Sandal in that aspect, all innocence and death. I may actually write her as a bonus character if someone wants some ridiculousness /unrealistic death power. Only wasn't killed during the Harrowing (quickest Harrowing ever) because she had no reason to use her full power before so the Circle doesn't know. She is 10000% creepy, because you know someone who can extend a hand and knock out/kill all enemies around her (and not lose a wink of sleep over murder in general) should not be acting all cute and sweet. Doesn't judge anyone, finds them all so curious and funny. human may be a stretch. Can also be used as occasional companion if we have threads with one of my other Wardens. To avoid ending the war and plots immediately, she can't constantly use her kill-all power but only once every 12 hours. SOLONA HEADCANONS.
Tumblr media
My baby Neria from this blog in her official outfit
Tumblr media
Elyssa Cousland, not writing her because there is not enough writing material: doesn't want to be anybody's hero, spends nearly the entire time covered in blood, she's just trying to avenge her entire family, she doesn't hardens the characters but real talk, Alistair is the one who un-hardens her (she marries him and makes them king and queen). May have flirted with Leliana to keep herself from thinking of Alistair and then things got awkward. Very close to Morrigan for no reason whatsoever. Way too pretty.

DWC Day 1: Love/Regret (Attzi)
@daily-writing-challenge
Warnings: offscreen character death, me struggling with a new speech syntax
Summary: Attzi has dinner with her family. (Attzi is also a new character, and there are no additional stories from her perspective. Jump in while it’s easy!)
-----
Attzi sat at one of the two tables her parents had pushed together in their dining room to make space for everyone to be together. One was square, and the other was round, but they were making it work all the same. Her family was scattered into the chairs surrounding the tables, helping themselves to food as they chattered. She counted her mother, her father, her aunt and uncle, and her five cousins. Everyone had made it tonight, which was great. She’d put herself at the bottom of the last table so that she could use her right ear to keep track of the conversations. A muted buzz sounded off to her left, but she was used to that.
“Attzi, that outfit looks amazin’,” called one of her cousins, which triggered a series of agreements from around the table. Most eyes fell on her, and so she grinned and paused eating so she could reply.
“Thanks! I got a new tailor. He’s a real nice guy, an’ he’s got a great eye for what looks good on me, ya know?”
Her mother’s head tilted. “Is that because there’s interest there?”
Attzi shook her head and tried to stifle a laugh behind her steak knife. “Ma, if there was interest, I wouldn’t be wearin’ the clothes he got me. Y'know me.”
She sighed, and Attzi cheerfully and pre-emptively rolled her eyes. She knew what was coming next. So did her father, apparently, because he cut her mother off, raising his voice ever-so-slightly from the other end of the mismatched tables.
“Didja get new jewelry? I don’t recognize the chain ya got on your belt.”
Of course he’d notice that; he was a jeweler, and had made everything Attzi wore. She rummaged around in her pocket and pulled out a golden watch, unlatching the chain with a claw so she could set it on the table.
Her aunt gasped as her silverware clattered onto her plate. “That’s– That’s Fyx’s! I never thought I’d see that watch in one piece again.”
The table fell silent, and Attzi felt her last truly clear memory roll to the surface of her mind as she pushed the button that would flip the watch’s case open.
****
“It’s good t’ see ya outta the workshop,” her mother had said, setting two paper bags on the kitchen counter. “The two of you’ve practically been livin’ there.”
“Fyx needs help, and I ain’t got nothin’ better ta do.” Attzi had been struggling to get her parka back on as she replied; winter had come to Everlook with a vengeance that year. She’d finally managed the zipper, and had pulled the hood up over her ears, ringing her vision in fur as her mother continued.
“Your pa could always teach you his trade, Atz.” Her mother frowned slightly. “Y’already gather half his supplies for him!”
“Right. Exactly. I like helpin’ family.” She’d pointed a clawed finger at her mother. “Now, thanks for lunch. Gotta run. He’s addin’ power to everythin’ today, t’see if we’ve got all the wirin’ right.”
“No problem. Have fun, the both a' ya.” Her mother had shaken her head, but she'd been smiling.
Attzi had grabbed the lunch bags before putting on her gloves, which she’d realized immediately was going to turn out to be a problem. Walking quick, then. She’d shouldered the door to the house open, and then began her trek down the block to the family’s workshop, lungs burning with each breath.
The smell had been the first thing to tip her off as she'd gotten close. The air had been sharp, and full of ozone, and something in it had been making the hair at the back of her neck tingle. It’d only taken Attzi a second to realize that her cousin had turned the machine on without her being there. She’d bolted into a run, dropping their lunches into the snow in her hurry.
But she hadn’t been in her work boots, which she used when she went out mining for ore and gems. Those had cleats, and could handle snow and ice. Her shoes that day had been meant for the lab, and so had next to no power to grip the slick and powdery ground beneath her. Attzi had slipped before she could get to the building’s entrance, landing on her back in the middle of the road and knocking the breath out of her lungs.
She’d been struggling to get up when there was a crackle, and then a boom. Her left ear had popped painfully, and then silenced into a soft ring as she’d been knocked hard away by the blast. She'd gone skidding across the street and against the wall of the far building. Everything had blossomed hot against her skin for a moment, and then she’d lost consciousness.
****
“Attzi? Atz.”
She shook her head to clear it, coming back into the present with a jolt. Her aunt and uncle were holding out their hands, quietly asking for the watch. She leaned over the table, passing it over to the closest hand. The pair inspected it silently before trading it down the line, letting Fyx’s brothers and sisters see his former favorite watch, as well. His family’s fingers ran along the case, now free of scorch marks and dents, and held it to their ears to listen to it tick.
Her whole family loved watches. She knew just from the looks on their faces that to them, the tick was as good as a heartbeat.
“Fyx'd be thrilled it was workin' again,” her aunt managed, at last passing it back across the table.
“It’s better than whole,” Attzi replied, jaw setting a bit grimly as she returned the watch to its place at her side. “It can turn back time.”
Only a few seconds, for now. But it was a start, right? She rubbed at her gently ringing left ear and smiled as the family tried to bring the conversation back up to a cheerful level. This was a reunion, after all, and none of them wanted to feel sad when they were around people they loved.

Are requests open? If so, comics I get the companions (+faction leaders and any others you’re willing to ad) react when they wake up and realize that 1, Sole has joined them in their bed, 2, there’s a blizzard, and 3, they are freezing.
(We just had a snowstorm that took out the entire power grid, internet, and cell service across all of Texas, and am currently sitting in my brother’s car because it’s warmer than the house)
I’m so sorry to heat that! I heard about that snowstorm in Texas, and my heart goes out to all of you. Please stay safe, and I’m wishing you the best. 💕 Please enjoy!
FO4 Companions (+Faction Leaders) React: Snowed In and Freezing
After a long day of preparing the settlement for future residents, Sole and their companion decided to spend the night in a rickety shack at Outpost Zimonja. Little did they know that a deep freeze and blizzard were on the way.
When they woke up the next morning, Sole and their companion found themselves freezing cold and completely snowed in.
...
Nick: [looking out window] I’ve never seen anything like quite like this in my time. And I’ve been around for a while. This is certainly something. [to Sole] I’m going to grab some more blankets for us. Don’t you worry, kid. You’re resilient. We’ll survive.
Hancock: [digging through supplies] Psycho raises your temperature and can cause heat flashes. It’s probably our best bet at staying alive in the weather.
MacCready: [shivering] T-t-t-this is b-b-brutal. I th-think we sh-sh-should probably huddle under th-these blankets.
Dogmeat: [whimpers and snuggles up next to Sole]
Curie: [pacing back and forth; teeth chattering] We ‘ave to keep moving, [Madame/Monsieur]! At least until zomeone can find us! We just need to ztay positive.
Piper: [squeezing the life out of Sole] It’s s-s-so c-cold. This is it. I’m not r-ready to d-die...
Codsworth: [noticeably slower; voice deep and drawn out] Myyyyyyy batteryyyyyy doesssss toleratttteeee bitter coldddddddddd, [sirrrrr/ma’aaaaaam].
Ada: [enters sleep mode to preserve battery]
Strong: Here human! Strong save hide from dinner [tosses ragstag hide at Sole]
Longfellow: [unfazed] Liquor. Drink it. It’ll warm ya right up. That’s how I made it through the cold, stormy nights in the Atlantic.
Cait: [frustrated] Bloody hell! I ain’t even mad about dyin, I’m mad about dyin by freezin to death!
Preston: I t-think I may have s-some extra clothes in my b-bag, General. We should d-dress in layers [draping coat over Sole’s shoulders] H-here. This should k-keep you a b-bit warmer.
Sturges: [searching the room for odds and ends] I reckon if I can find all the right supplies, I might be able to build a makeshift generator.
Danse: The most effective way to contain body is to swaddle yourself in the blankets, like this [Wraps Sole up like a burrito]. Make sure to keep your nose close to the breathing hole so you don’t suffocate. We’ll make it through this, soldier.
Maxson: We need to find some more clothing and blankets, Knight. Layering up is our best bet at staying warm in this horrendous weather.
Deacon: [shivering; trying to stay positive] Man...this s-sucks! Well, at least we have each other. Maybe we can cuddle and sing songs to distract ourselves from the creeping hypothermia. [clearing throat] WE DIDN’T START THE FIRE! IT WAS ALWAYS BURNING SINCE THE WORLD’S BEEN TURNING!
Desdemona: [shivering, rubbing arms] This is h-horrible. Let’s see if we can at least k-keep some heat in by covering up the windows and sealing the cracks in the d-doors.
X6-88: I’ve been trying to contact the Institute, but there appears to be no signal. Our next best option is to find as many blankets and/or pieces of clothing as we can to stay warm.
Father: [annoyed; pacing back and forth] This is not how I anticipated death. I have far too much to do to pass away so soon. I am a busy man!
Gage: [taking to self, furiously rubbing two sticks together] C’mon baby. C’mon. Light this place up like we lit up Mason’s porta potty that one time.
Mags: So this is how it’s gonna end. Alone, in a dilapidated shack. How underwhelming and utterly disappointing.
Mason: [on knees, praying] Dear fire god up in the clouds— light a fire like you lit up my fucking toilet that one time. Love, Mason.
Nisha: [solemnly] If you die first, I’m going to eat your corpse.

He sighs aloud, pushing his wooden chair backwards as he pulls himself up off of it.
“Where are you going ?” Kaminari, the blonde to his left, looked up at him in confusion.
“Going to check on Bakubro,” the red haired declares. “You guys go walk or something if you wanted, I guess,” He spoke dryly, sharp teeth shining every time he flexes his jaw open.
Denki’s golden eyes shakily hold contact with Kirishima’s small red ones. Both exchanging the same worrisome thoughts, the blonde sighs in despair as he nods at his friend.
Tumblr media
“You sure you don’t want to come?” Kirishima perks a brow. “You haven’t been eating properly since-”
“Do I look hungry to you, shitty hair?!” The ash blonde snaps aloud.
“No, sorry,” The red haired lies, understanding and all. Without a single word further, he leaves the dorm and shuts the door on his way out.
Sighing, Bakugo throws himself back on the bed. He rubs his eyes with rough callouses, stopping any emotion from stepping out of line. He shifts to his side, staring at the frame on his bedside table.
“Damn, if you were here you would’ve dragged me downstairs,” he spoke to the picture softly, wishing for nothing more than the impossibility of pulling the girl out of the framed picture and into his embrace. “If. I hate that word. But you know that already. Or, well, knew.”
                                    -s i x  w e e k s  a g o-
“Oh my God,” The y/h/c girl gasps, gripping into Katsuki’s strong arm tighter than she already was. “We can even pain it pink! Imagine if we did- that’d be so funny.”
The idea brought the ash blonde delight, but his expression remained frozen as the snow he’s walking on. With he two arms wrapped around his right arm, he wonders of the possibility of his girlfriend’s fantasies becoming a reality.
“Tch, dumbass,” He replies. “Pink is lame.”
“You’re lame,” She rolls her eyes playfully at him. Her nose was blocked by the cold, being unfortunate enough to not be a self-heater as her lover is. She sounded different, but she tried to pay it no mind, but it’s hard to do so when walking beside her was non other than mr.Sexy Voice. She couldn’t help but feel insecure.
“Yeah yeah,” he smirks, intertwining his fingers with her’s and pulling them inside his coat’s pocket. A light pink tint was added to redden her cheek further more. It was him and the weather. But he’s always there.
“What if we, like, actually got married?” She farrowed her y/b/s brows, raising her right hand into the air and examining the promise ring her gave her on their third anniversary.
“There is no ‘if’ to it, idiot,” he declares, embarrassed by the state he was about to make even thought there was not reason to be ashamed of it whatsoever. “We are getting married, so shut up about it already.”
“Aw, Katsuki,” She smiles agape, printing a soft, cold kiss on his surprisingly warm cheek. “When did I say I had plans of marrying you?” She teases, eyes narrowed.
“I didn’t ask. If you don’t want to I’ll make you.”
“You’ll make me?” she scoffs. “I’d love to see you do that.”
“Careful what you wish for, teddybear,”it was a threat if there was ever one, making the girl’s y/e/c eyes stare at him with all bewilderment there is.
“Anyway,” she brushes it off quickly, looking ahead of them. “What if we got a daughter, would you know how to deal with her?”
“Stop ‘what if’ing,” he rolls his vermilion eyes. “It’s too early to tell, you moron.”
Before she could retort ans shut him up, the glass door of the store by their side practically blew up, spitting glass everywhere. While she was frozen from the utter shock, he caught a piece of glass right before it lands in her y/e/c eyes.
“The fuck was that?!” He growls aloud, but people start running out of the place like crazy, all terrified.
Y/n was pulled out the way by Katsuki, who frantically shook the girl ahead of him, trying to bring her back to reality.
“Listen, I’m gonna go see what son of a bitch is doing what there and you’ll go get some fucking help, okay?”
“Y-yeah, okay,” she nods, processing it all. Bakugo sighed deeply, considering keeping her here in the safe around him, not letting her out on her own, but he new he had to.
He pats her shoulder twice, she goes off running as his eyes trail her back.
Tumblr media
“What do you mean she’s not here?!!” Bakugo shouts at endeavour like some maniac, trying his best to not jump on the old man and punch him.
“I don’t have time for your love affairs, boy. Your ‘girlfriend’ is not here. She was transported to the infirmary with the rest of injured.”
As the number one hero pushed past him, the ash blonde stared into the blank.
Tumblr media
“I’m sorry,” the man sighs. “I really am.”
He could barely hear the door shut, staring at what could soon be the corpse of his girlfriend.  All the other devices connected ti her body meant nothing to him. He’d give up everything he’d worked for his whole life right then if it meant she’ll stay.
“Don’t fucking go,” he took her hand. “See me? I’m right here, for you. I didn’t waste 4 years of my life for you to do this to me. I’ll let you ‘what if’ all you want. Just- don’t fucking leave.”
Much to his dismay, as his voice cracked a tear spilled down his cheek. He ran a calloused finger down her promise, him wearing a similar one with her name craved on its inside.
   “Don’t fucking go.”
It’s a whimper,  desperate gasp for air. He didn’t mind being like this now; being so vulnerable. He didn’t have the brain nor the brain capacity to do so.
    “Please, don’t leave me.”
His thoughts raced. He wish he were good enough, he had more time. He wished he were able to put her up again. He’d always bush it to later. He never showed her him vulnerable because later.  He never to her to the basement ti just talk because later. He never roamed the world with her because later. He never gave her the custom dress he wanted her to wear to prom because later.
The beep sound from he device above his head became high, long, annoying. But, yet, he knew it indicated something dangerous.
“B-babe?” He looked up at her, his face red but her’s pale.
The man in white, uniform indicating a doctor, stormed into the room.
“Wh-what’s wrong?!” The ash blonde asked, eyes agape as the doctor head towards the bed.
“I might have to ask you to leave, young man.”
“DON’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO! WHAT’S HAPPENING?!”
   “Sir-”
“ANSWER ME-” then, the ash blonde’s senses hit him; sudden and all. He stumbles back. “Sh-she’s making it, right?”
    “I already told you-”
“NO YOU DIDN’T-!” he lied, scared. No, scratch that, terrified.
This is all a bad dream. He continued to murmur in his head.
Nurses came for backup, one with a quirk that numbed his limbs he couldn’t move. They pulled him out. The crying boy growled in pain, trying to stay. But they wouldn’t let him.

“I let you down,” He hugged the photo to his chest tightly, tears uncontrollably streaming down his light skinned face. “I’m sorry.”

and her sister came just as I wrote the last line at 1 ¾ in the snow and must have been here an hour or more when they hurried off on the arrival of princesse Michel Galitzin who sat talking till 3 35/.. – very nice agreeable person – I really like her very much – nobody could be more civil – she is très liée de la princesse Tcherkask who wishes to make our acquaintance – princesse G- will be glad to see us some evening to tea, and will present us to princesse T- explained our journey – that I had now travelled 10 years – had always longed to travel – lived with my uncle homme très instruit – savant – did nothing but read – talked to him of travelling who bade me wait till après sa mort – princesse G- had heard we were going into Asia – said I feared that (understanding her to mean Persia etc.) was not possible sans courier des grandes risques; but if it should be feasible to go to Tabriz, should be glad – however did not think of it – talked of Troitza [Troitsa] – the history of father Antoine given by Lady Londonderry, and the name of the lady to whom he was said to be attached – all this an error – it was no attachment that made him turn monk – it was une invocation, what we our Methodists should term a call – his protecteur prince......... meant him for the world – had a physician in the house under father A- studied medicine but was always reading livres de piété when he could, and at last ran away and became monk – the princesse Tcherkask knows him very well – and princess G- has his history from a person who has known him from his infancy – Lady Londonderry is wrong – ditto old princesse O- who told me the same story but without names – and without saying Lady L- told the same story – Madame O- very civil – speaking of plate she said 96 zolotniks = 1lb. Russe and one buys silver spoons, forks, etc at ./90 to 1/. per zolotnik (by weight) – good silver forks in England will weigh from 3oz. to 4oz. a piece; and suppose a Russian lb. to weigh 12oz. = 96 zolotniks and suppose 8zolotnicks = 1oz. .:. one fork weighing 3oz. or 24 zolotniks = 24/. to go to Madame O- on Wednesday at 12 (noon) and she will go with me to buy all we want – had just written so far now at 4 ¼ p.m. – took up the St. James’s chronicle of 19 to 22 October – dressed – dinner at soon after 6 – count Panin came soon after 7 and staid till very near 8 – took leave before going into the country for a week or 10 days – if my casserole is not ready I am to take his – sorry he is going before we get off – tea at 8 – afterwards till 11 finished the above newspaper and the following ones , viz. from 22 to 24, and from 24 to 26, and from 26 to 29 October – nothing very particular but the mention (last paper p. 3 col. 4) of the late duke of Bedfords’
SH:7/ML/E/23/0184
rent roll estimated at £250,000 per annum – he received £4,000 per annum as grand landlord of Druny-lane and covent garden theatres and £12,000 per annum as proprietor of Covent garden market – and vid. 24 to 226 October p. 2 vol. 4 from the Leicester Journal it is said that Sir Edward Godfrey Leman, heir to the late Sir John L- ‘will shortly come into possession of his immense landed and funded property the annual rents alone amount to £400000’ – vid. 19 to 22 October p. 4 vol. 2 from the morning Herald – Beau Brummel[l] in a Lunatic Asylum in Caen in Normandy, existing on the ‘benevolence of relations and contributions of friends’ on scarcely £100 a year - !!! vid. 22 to 24 October p. 1 vol. 5 at the Epping agricultural dinner thanks to Mr. Palmer for producing 2 samples – of black wheat from Russia, and white barley from China – the former not perhaps much worth for England but Mr. Palmer observed the latter might be of use from the quickness of its growth – instead of being a lean thin barley was nearly the substance of our own – ‘that sown in his garden in May, was in ear and ripe in June; he then sowed it again, and some of it was nearly ripe now from the seed......... It might be of use in colder climates and perhaps it might be serviceable here’ had had Grotza, and just written the last 5 lines of the last page and so far of this now at 12 25/.. tonight – fine morning till about one – then snowy for an hour or 2 or more then fair again – R12 ½° on my table and 11 ½° on the console and fine moonlight night now at 12 ½ tonight – seemingly rather a thaw wind? and R1 ½° above the freezing point dehors – the thaw has cleared the glass of the window and I once more see the thermometer fixed up outside

Hey guys, i'm the anon who made the south park deaths post. It was until I realized, hey! i clearly could've done a better job at the writing so....
Part 1
KENNY:
I breathed in the cold, winter air as it escaped through the windows. I smiled joyfully, another great day in South Park.
I hear my mother call my name, "Kenny! Come on out here!" I quickly put on my orange parka and headed out from my room.
"We don't have anything to eat for breakfast today, so you're going to have to wait until you can eat at school." She sighed. I shrugged my shoulders in disappointment, "Okay.." My muffled voice spoke out. My mother brought up the topic of dad never getting a job and began yelling at him to stop reading playboys, and to actually do something with his pathetic life.
I grabbed my backpack and headed out the door. Maybe once I get to school It'll be better. I thought.
I. Thought.
I was walking down the sidewalk and hear someone call out my name. I looked up and saw Stan waving at me, alongside Kyle and Cartman just with arguing each other.
I made my way to cross the sidewalk, but halfway, I heard a truck honking.. I could hear Stan screaming, Kyle and Cartman still yelling at each other but louder this time, and feel my whole body shiver.
I felt the tip of the truck touch my parka, as if it was in slow motion.. then it all came crashing down on me. I could hear my bones cracking, feeling my limbs be torn apart by the impact. When I was about to cry, I died. Again.
I thought it'd get better.
I thought.
Why does this happen?
Why does god never let me be happy?
I then felt my body again, and this time I wasn't in pain. I was back, again, and It happened, AGAIN.
I woke up and proceeded to finally cross a sidewalk without dying this time. But something felt wrong. Stan looked like shit, as if someone important just died. Right in front of him. So was Kyle and Cartman, but they weren't as bad as him. Cartman seemed more confused than sad, and Kyle seemed more shocked than depressed. "Hey Kenny." Stan croaked. "You're back."
CRAIG:
What a great day to wake up to. My now, EX-BOYFRIEND just broke up with me because of "personal reasons" and that it just "didn't feel right." What a fucking asshole. I've been dealing with your freakouts just for it to come to this? Thanks, Tweek.
I didn't want to talk to anybody today. I'm just so pissed off right now.
I've never felt so horrible in my life. And i've been through stuff, if you know what I mean. I felt worthless, I hated myself. Why can't I be better? No, there's no point to that.
I slammed my locker in anger. It was so annoyingly loud that It gave me a headache. Of course. I felt someone send a glare over my shoulder. I couldn't care less though, I don't care about anything anymore. Except Stripe of course.
Just as I took my first step, I hear the front doors to the school bust open. It was a redneck. He was shouting in such a heavy Southern accent I couldn't even make out what he was saying. It sounded like gibberish almost. I then noticed the shotgun he was carrying. I began panicking and I stared at him like a deer in the head lights. I finally snapped back to reality when he fired his gun.
5. I turned around and started running.
4. I began crying.
3. I felt useless.
2. I felt scared.
1. I felt...
"Oh."
CLYDE:
I cried my eyes out. I've never felt more sad in my life. My throat burned, my heart throbbed, and I lost.. him.
I threw my fists up into the air, immediately slamming them back down again. "That fucking a-asshole!" Snot began dripping from my nose. "I HATE HIM!" I cried out. "IT WAS ALL HIS FAULT, I K-K-KNOW IT! TH-THAT BASTARD!" I started hiccuping.
"You're worthless."
"You're a piece of shit, Tweek."
"You ruined him."
"You can't even button up your shirt correctly! How dumb can you be?"
"He was better without you."
"He was happier."
"He cou-
"Just stop!" Tweek yelled at me. What was his problem? "Listen, I know I wasn't the best, I know I-I could've done better, and I'm sorry, Clyde!" Tweek sighed. "And you've been sh-shitting on me every day because of it, and I want you t-to stop!" I crossed my arms and puffed out my chest.
"And what are you gonna do about it, fuck face?"
"W-Well, I was wondering if we could talk about it at my place. And hopefully, we can resolve our problems."
At first, I thought hell no! I'm not forgiving this asshole so quickly. But then I had an idea.
I'll just kill him.
I applauded myself in my mind for such a great idea. "Fine." I rolled my eyes. "Th-thank you, it'll be at 8 by the way." Tweek quickly left.
After school was over I began running to my house, running through the newly covered snow. I ran through the front door, and closed the door. "Welcome home, Clyde!" My dad smiled. I ignored hus greeting and ran upstairs. Hearing my dad mutter "You must be in a rush..." His voice slowly faded out as I ran into my room. "Time to prepare." I grinned as I pulled out my laptop.
Time skip brought to you by Kyle's great ass.
I began walking to Tweek's house. I hid my butcher knife in my coat. He'll never notice! I glanced up and saw it. It. I noticed I began to sweat, no need to sweat Donovan! You'll just have to carry his body far out to the forest and no one would notice! Then you'll just leave, easy peasy! Tweek's parents were out on a date, so it was just me and Tweek. All. Alone. Together.
I knocked on the door, and it was opened immediately. "Welcome." Tweek's voice was unnervingly calm. "I've got you your favorite drink, Clyde. Why don't you head up stairs so we can talk?" He smiled. "Okay..." I got a bad feeling. I don't know why but.. I did. Something was totally off. Probably because I was going to kill Tweek and my nerves were just getting to me. So I set that stupid feeling aside.
I walked inside Tweek's room, legos were scattered across the floor. "Oh, don't mind that." I jumped. Tweek was so.. close. Wtf. "I was hoping we could try and build something.." He walked over to his desk and set our drinks down. I sat down next to him.
He held up his drink and said "Cheers?" Tweek smiled. I picked up my drink and returned the gesture, "Cheers." I began to chug my drink. Wow, it sure did taste odd.
I set my drink down along with Tweek. But as soon as I did, I felt my stomach explode. I fell to the floor gripping my stomach. I immediately started to throwing up. "WHAT THE FUCK!?!" I began sobbing. Tweek immediately ran over to me, grabbing my hair and shoving me onto the floor. "S-Shut up!" He growled.
"H-HELP!"
I began coughing blood.
"HELP M-ME PLE-PLEASE!"
I started to sob.
"I'M SORRY!"
I felt extremely light headed.
I started to throw up blood.
I felt like my brain was going to explode.
I just wanted justice.
I just wanted to help him.
Somehow.
But I couldn't.

What if episode 8 spoilers!
I wrote this while watching the episode and after, but I don’t stop the episode every time I had something to said because it would have been to long. (In fact that’s what I did so it’s really a long post, sorry!) Anyway, let’s began!
OMG there’s « Jeremy Renner » in the opening! *fangirling in Hawkeye/Clint Barton fan* Wait, about the opening, it’s different from the others, the ones from the previous seven episodes, right? OMG blond-haired-Natasha! *also cry in fangirl*
The Watcher talking about a reality which end and which breaks his (?)(we always assume that’s The Watcher use the he/him pronouns but as far as I’m not sure of it, I’ll use the they/them pronouns) their heart and guess what? I think this episode will break mine!
It snow… (Please tell me it’s not ashes (Maybe from the burning world?))
Holy- Natasha!!! My heart is tight and I feel bad and sad and now I want to cry, Marvel I hate you. Also, she looks hurt, Marvel I double hate you for that, stop playing with my feeling please!
*yell and screams* My little boiiii!!! (Hawkeye/Clint Barton just appeared on my screen) (and I’m really happy of it) (I hope he won’t be hurt, or I’ll became violent because no one hurt my little baby! Yes, I’m aware that he’s older and stronger than me but I don’t care, let me dream and cry, ok?) Also, excuse me, but what happened to his right arm? I’m not sure but if it’s what I think it is, Marvel you’re gonna have big trouble (and by that I mean my insulting you in French in my room, which isn’t that bad I think)
Good I love this action scene and this duo! And the Hawkeye cape is really stylish! I want the same! It seems so cool! Can we agree on the fact that that’s a cape of invisibility, like in Harry Potter?
Also, that’s a metal arm or a prothese that he have instead of his right arm?! Marvel please no! *screams and swear in French*
The three-arrows thing was cool!
*double scream in French when the robots hurt Hawkeye*
Touch him and I’ll kill you you robots! Yay! Natasha!
Wait a minute, I just think about it but where are the others? (I’m full of fear now)
A joke about him being disable? Ah. Sooo fun 😒 (no) Natasha saying that puns aren’t her speciality… Girl, no kidding?! Also, the « It’s Russia. Secrets were the national pastime. » is actually a good one! (Is that the ruins of Saint-Petersburg?)
« One‘s man dream »… You mean his stupidity and/or madness of values, right?
Oh sh¡T! Ultron dear, you’re a son of a Tony, and that’s not a compliment. Dumbass, if you erase the life on Earth, first of all that‘s not nice (thank you Captain obvious) and then, how can we have the wonderful Wandavison?! (Yeah, I love this ship, one of the only hetero ones I like)
Clint being worried for his family wasn’t something I needed today you Marvel!
Scuse me WTF?! He cut Thanos like a shitty piece of paper?! And this purple idiot let him a free access to the Infinity stones?! (Well, he may don’t think things were gonna happened that way but it’s a big catastrophe, like *scream in French*)
*swear in French* Ultron my dear don’t do that!!! *scream for the happy universes we saw* *cry for it* Also, Ultron might be a vilain but we can’t deny they’re (again I’m not sure about the pronouns) really good looking. I mean, their design is really cool and full of style and it’s sad it would bring us tears and desperation because they’re really stylish -I know I repeated the same think but I think it and my English vocabulary isn’t really good :C -.
And I was right to fear for the others :C
Ultron, peace isn’t destruction!
Did he just destroyed Earth?! *is shocked and don’t accept it* *my heroes can’t die, right? * (friendly reminder that Tony’s not part of my heroes)
And Asgard?! *still in disbelief*
*saw their favorites MCU characters disappear from the screen* No! Nooo! *cry for real and had to put pause to cry* (my heart is broken, why did you did this Marvel?!)
The Great Master is just like us, he watch what’s happening in disbelief because it’s so… absurd. It’s not happening, right? It’s just a nightmare and I’ll wake up soon, right?
What the f_ck Xandar?! Captain! *cry with joyfull tears* Please kick Ultron’s ass! Skynet, LoL, I understand that reference! (Am I that old?!)
Wait, I just realized but if Ultron had destroyed Earth, it means Maria -you know, Carol’s wife- is dead?! *gasp in pain*
« You can’t win. - I already have. » Dude WTF?! Let me have hope you son of Tony!
Crap Ultron broke the 4th wall and heard the narrator (aka The Watcher!)! We’re in danger! All the universes are in danger! Our mental health are in dan… Wait, I don’t have that one.
*deep breath with Natasha and Clint appears on screen*
Hey Watcher, maybe you could help them, no? I mean, the multiverse is in danger and they’re your last hope, remember? But no, it’s so much fun to watch them looking in all the boxes… 😒
Is that Alexei Red Guardian’s shield? You really want me to cry Marvel?! (oh no, now I’ve got « Bye bye Miss American Pie » stuck in head… Great, really)
*Clint talking about his low will to live* Me: same here bro! Not exactly for the same reasons but same here!
Watcher, stop talking just f_cking help them! That’s what you called « intervene » Watcher?! LoL seing them trying to talk to the duo Clintasha is the funniest think in this episode for now xD
Not this escalator xD *think about the scene with Steve and Bucky in it in Captain America: The Winter Soldier* *smile*
Francis?! WTF?! XD
How to kill Zola? With water xD Oh God I love Clint so much xD
« I’d like to order a pizza » LoL *die of laughing because it was unexpected* xD (See? She can make pun!)
Yes, a specific arrow! Also, don’t explain us you plan! If we know the plan before it happened, it’s not gonna work!
I’m love the trio Clint-Natasha-Zola actually!
Wait… Natasha holding Clint furiously reminds me of what happened in Voromir… *realization* NO! No no no no No! I see what you trying to doing here Marvel! No! I want them to live! Both of them!
*shock* *cry*
The « I don’t want to fight anymore » wasn’t something I needed Marvel! Why would you do this to me?! WHY?!
*also, sadly, we know that Ultron won’t die in this episode because we saw it in the end of episode 7 and it was after episode 8 I guess*
THEY DO THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT HAPPENED IN ENDGAME THOSE *incomprehensible swear drowned in tears* !!! I hope all the one who said that « it should have been Clint » regret it!
And the little smile! He’s relieve to leave and to join his family! *cry in pain*
Why do I still watch The MCU?! I know it’s painful but I still watch, why?!
Apart of that, can we talk about the beauty of this scene? The music, the light who goes on Clint…
Tumblr media
Watcher, you sure you can’t do anything ?!
I’m sorry but I have to : Nat, you’re such a poser !
Tumblr media
Wait, The Watcher is actually really badass and strong!
What the f_ck Steve?! Why became president?!
WTF?!
Wait, it’s already the end?! Ah, no. Fiou.
What the… That’s Strange. And by that I don’t only said that it’s weird, but also that that’s literally Doctor Strange from episode 6.
How the f_ck does he end up there!? No idea.
I love the ending music, god!
*enging credits* What the… The CNC and Film France helped?! *disbelief but also pride to be French*
And that’s it! Finished! One week to wait until the next one?! It’s gonna be sooo long (actually no because of my studies but you understand what I mean, right?)

Hello there! So, I saw you answer an ask earlier about the Batfam, and I agree with that user that you have a really good grasp on their relationships/dynamics. So, I've got a question for you pertaining to reactions for them, aka how they react to things. (sorry for long ask)
I'm writing a fic where Dick dies of "natural causes" (Batfam believe this) and I'm trying to figure out how/if the Batfam would react to this. Bruce is honestly the hardest to figure out for me, because I feel like Jason obviously messed him up because he was fairly young when he died (along with Damian, even though it was a bit different), but in this au, Dick is almost 30. Personally, I believe that Tim wouldn't believe he's dead (kinda like with Bruce and his whole time travel thingy), Damian would be kinda/hella depressed without support, and Jason would want Dick to r.i.p because he knows what that sh*t is like along with coming back to life.
All this to say: How do you think the Batfam boys (Bruce, Jason, Tim, Damian) would react to Dick's death? DC never really explores that imo
If Dick died very suddenly then I think Bruce would run every test under the sun to determine what the cause of death was. He’d factor in everything. He’d figure out where Dick was leading up to his death. He’d check to see who Dick was in contact with leading up to his death. He’d check every little thing to make sure that Dick’s death wasn’t caused by an outside source.
@bigskydreaming has actually mentioned his take on how Bruce would react to Dick’s death, and I found it very interesting. I’m gonna paraphrase what I remember of it (Kalen, come yell at me if I remembered it wrong.) Basically, his idea was that Bruce wouldn’t be able to acknowledge the fact that Dick was dead. To preserve his own sanity, he would go on pretending that Dick was just on a never-ending mission. Basically, he’d live in denial.
I think that’s an interesting way to think about it. It would be kinda like one of those fics where the author makes you think a character is alive, but then once you get to the end of the story, you realize that the character has actually been dead the whole time, and the narrator was pretending they were still alive or was talking about them as if they were still alive.
On the other hand, we’ve seen how Bruce reacts when his family members die. With his parents, he became Batman. With Jason, he became depressed and reckless. With Damian, he brought Damian back to life. With Alfred, he let go of his responsibility as head of the family. (So his reactions are a bit extreme.)
If Bruce found out that someone had killed Dick, I think he would 100% go after them with the intention of killing them. He did it when Jason died, and he attempted/threatened to kill the villains when he thought they had killed Dick (I’m referencing Alexander and Luthor). Also, recently, he beat the absolute shit out of KGBeast after Dick got shot in the head. He left KGBeast to die in the snow knowing damn well that KGBeast couldn’t move because Bruce had broken his back.
If Bruce genuinely thought Dick died from natural causes, I think he would become obsessed with making sure his other kids didn’t fall to that same fate. That could mean doing way more medical screenings more often. Making sure everyone is eating properly and exercising. Becoming extremely paranoid about things like head injuries that could cause unexpected side effects.
I think Jason and Damian would both find it shocking and ridiculous that someone like Dick would’ve died randomly rather than dying in the field. I could see Jason making some insensitive comments about Dick to hide his real feelings. Stuff like, “Wing was always good at dodging bullets. Heart attacks? Not so much.”
I don’t think Jason would really want to talk about it. Him and Dick weren’t super close, but I think Dick’s death would still bug him considering their history together. So, yeah, he’d think about Dick but wouldn’t really bring him up unless he wanted to hurt Bruce. Like if him and Bruce were really going at it over something, I could see him throwing Dick’s death in Bruce’s face (kinda like when he taunted Bruce over Dick most likely being dead after Chemo fell on Bludhaven.)
I could also see Jason muttering about Dick under his breath when he was alone. Just kind of like a one-sided conversation. Essentially stuff like, “You would have had this figured out by now if you were here” and “Did you hear what Bruce said to me? Fuckin ridiculous. You would’ve cussed him out.”
Tim would be similar to Bruce in that he would want all the answers. He’d want to know what happened to Dick and how it happened.
Now Dick and Tim haven’t been as close in Rebirth so I can’t accurately determine just how impacted Tim would be by Dick’s death. But if we’re talking about a Post-Crisis Dick and Tim relationship then Tim would be completely devastated.
I’m talking like... getting choked up seeing Dick’s empty spot at the dinner table. Going through all the voicemails Dick left for him on his phone. Getting really depressed whenever he needed to talk to someone because the person he used to always go to is now dead. On the inside he’d be a crying river and on the outside he’d be a wall of stone.
Tim would possibly contemplate using a Lazarus pit to bring Dick back. He tried to use one in the later Nightwing issues to bring his parents and friends back only to be stopped from doing so by Dick. I don’t know, maybe he’d throw the idea out there to Damian.
Like Bruce with the Joker and KGBeast situation, Damian’s instinct would be to go after the person who killed Dick if he found out that someone was responsible for it. In the scenario where Dick dies of natural causes, I think Damian would mostly just be depressed and have a lot of repressed emotions. I could see it all boiling over one day and Damian either letting his anger get the best of him or his sadness overwhelming him to the point of tears.
Lately, Damian has been reflecting on Alfred a lot since Alfred died. We’ve seen him have some flashbacks of good memories with Alfred. I think Damian would try to find comfort in good memories with Dick, and then reality would hit him like a punch to the face, leaving him in either a bad or depressed mood.
I think Damian would also feel guilt. Guilt for not hugging Dick more when he had the chance. Guilt for never telling Dick how grateful he was or how much he loved Dick. On the flip side, I could see him being irrationally angry too (like he was when Dick was shot in the head). Muttering stuff like, “Tt. You were Batman, Richard! You were supposed to be untouchable!”
But, yeah, that’s basically how I think they would individually react to Dick’s death. Since Dick has such an important part in the family just like Alfred does, I think the batfam would find it really hard to put the pieces back together after losing him. Dick was essentially a mediator between Bruce and Damian as well as between Tim and Damian. Those three left on their own without Dick to balance them out would not be pretty. I mean, look what’s happened recently since Dick’s had amnesia alkjda.
Of course, we saw that the family got along when everyone except Bruce thought that Dick was dead during the Agent 37 shtick. I think one of the key reasons that seemed to work is because Bruce knew Dick wasn’t actually dead. He wasn’t feeling any real repercussions from Dick’s death like other members in the family were. So if Dick had stayed dead during that time then I don’t think the batfam would have gotten along as well as they did since Bruce would have been acting completely different.
Anyways, hopefully that helped!

Before reading, I want you to know that I don't use any names or Y/n's because I know many people don't really insert their names, they read it as Yin 😂 I also write in first person pov because I think it's easier to read and imagine yourself in that situation
Beads of sweat slowly rolled down my forehead as I pulled out a piece of paper from my sleeve. I knew that the exam would be hard, but I wasn't expecting it to be this detailed. Thank God my friend made me write it all on a small piece of paper. At least I will get a positive grade. Of course he made me do it, he passed the school with those. Thankfully, he didn't go to medicine school. If I ever ended up on his surgery table, I would die.
Three more minutes until the end and one more question unanswered. The teacher noticed me shifting in my seat, but she knew I always get good grades. She finally stopped looking at me and gave her attention to a group of boys trying to switch their papers. I glanced one more time at the piece of paper and put it back in my sleeve. Just as I finished the answer, the bell rang. Half of the class groaned, probably because they didn't manage to finish in time. I took my backpack and left the paper with my name on the main table.
"Good job! Honestly, your exams are always my favorite to grade. I'm really happy to have a student like you."
"Thank you, Mrs Johnson. See you on Monday."
Once I got outside I noticed the sky already getting dark. It was just 5 pm and winter was already doing it's job; the roads were wet and slippery from mixed rain and snow and it must've been under 0 Celsius. Usually I walk home because it's not far away, but my school uniform, rain and cold weather didn't go well together. I was just about to call my roommate when I felt car lights on me, followed by a familiar voice.
"I think quicker than you do." Wooyoung smiled as he opened the door. "Get in please I don't want to spend the next week taking care of an annoyingly picky roommate. I have plans to get drunk and do something stupid."
"You do stupid things anyway without drinking. So save the money and the time. And oh, save me from embarrassment." I get in the car sticking my tongue out at him. "Did you cook anything? I'm starving."
"No, of course. I slept the whole day." I look at him, hoping to see a smile on his face that would give me a sign that he's joking. "Don't look at me like that, I was tired from the night shift. I'll take you to McDonald's." he drove out of the school parking.
"I don't want trash, Wooyoung. I want food." I groaned. He told me that he would try cooking something, but it's been a week and he didn't do anything. "Please buy some pasta and tomato sauce I'll make something."
"Honestly, I really don't feel like waiting. And McDonald's is f**king awesome!" his hand reached out to turn on the radio. "How can you not love the little purple box full of 12 golden beauties?"
It did sound good, but we haven't eaten any "real" food for a month and my stomach started to ache. Living with Wooyoung has its bad and good sides, the bad sides mainly being his laziness and stubbornness. Speaking of stubbornness, of course he took the left turn towards McDonald's.
"What do you want?"
"What a polite way to ask me. You've loosened up I see." I frown at him. He rolls his eyes dramatically and turns towards me with his whole body.
"Your Highness, what do you wish to consume today?"
"That's just too much."
"What the h*ll do you want? I'm taking 3 burgers and fries and you aren't touching them." the brown haired boy points his finger towards my face. I squint my eyes at him, then bite his finger. "Crazy woman."
"Hello, may I take your order?"
"Hello, yes. I'd like a..."
***
"Is this place good enough for the Queen?" Wooyoung spoke with his mouth full of fries and ketchup. We sat on the roof of his car on a parking lot near a river. The place is good enough for the Queen.
"Eat before you speak, what's wrong with you?" I laugh at him, seeing that he spilled the ketchup on his t-shirt. "No girl will want you like this."
"To be honest I'm not interested right now." he replied immediately.
I'd lie if I said that my heart didn't sink a bit. Whoever said that boys and girls can't be friends was right. One side always catches feelings, big or small. In my case, I believe it's a small crush. He's the only boy I hang out with, so that must be why.
"Why?" I allow myself to ask.
"I had a little crush on a girl but I had to give it up." he kept stuffing his mouth with food, trying to avoid the conversation.
"And...?" I look at him expecting more. But he keeps his mouth shut and folds the paper of the burgers in his hands.
"Are you thirsty?" Wooyoung offers a can of soda, still looking at his fingers.
"Yes, thank you." he opens the can for me, first taking a sip himself, then giving the green beverage to me. I drink the whole can almost immediately.
"You could've said earlier that you were thirsty, I had water in the car." his tone visibly changed. He sounded more serious now, as if he just wanted to go home and lock himself in the room. "Want another one?" he reaches for another can.
"I think I have one more sip here." I throw my head back trying to drink every single drop of the refreshing juice. I slowly started to lean back, forgetting that I'm not in the chair but on the roof of the car. "Sh*t!" I curse as I almost fall on the rocky floor.
"Hey!" Wooyoung quickly reacts and grabs my hands, pulling me towards him. All the empty cans rolled down on the floor, making loud noises. "You good?" he asks, eyes on my face.
His hands felt so warm around mine. I really didn't want to let go. "I'm good." I pull away, trying to get down to collect the cans.
"Leave the d*mn cans there. You almost fell down. Do you see those rocks down there? What if you hit your head? What would I do?"
"I'd pay to get your car cleaned from my blood, Wooyoung." I laugh, but when I notice that his face didn't change, my smile drops. "What's wrong? Why isn't it funny when I say something like this?"
"Behind all these jokes you have to understand that you are very important to me and I have a soft spot for you. If anything happened to you my life would stop. I'm a serious man behind all my sarcastic jokes. Please watch yourself, because I can't do it all the time. It takes a second to turn a peaceful situation into a disaster."
I stare at him with my mouth a little open. I'm surprised at his words, I never heard him talk like this. I manage to say a sorry, turning my head away from him.
After a few seconds of silence, which seemed like hours, he got down and picked up all the cans, then offered me his hand. "Be careful." I put my hand in his, slowly getting down on the floor. "What dumbass even puts these rocks on the parking lot?" he picks up a few of them and pushes them away, leaving the bigger and heavier ones where they were.
"I think because they don't want someone else to have the spot." I watch as he tries to move a few more rocks. "Leave it, you're gonna hurt yourself. Let's just go back home, please?"
"Alright." he leaves the rocks and opens the door for me. Then he proceeds to enter the car himself. "But just for the record, I could've moved those rocks." his lips curved in a small smile. He can't help himself.
***
It suddenly became quiet in the house. Wooyoung layed on the sofa, watching the TV, and I sat on the floor behind the coffee table with my back leaning on the sofa.
"I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't take any photos." I pouted, scrolling down my Instagram feed. He didn't respond. I kept quiet for a few more minutes, then broke the silence again. "Do you think you could pick me up tomorrow from school again?" again, no answer.
I turn around towards him and see that his eyes are closed. He fell asleep while watching the TV. I took a blanket from my room and layed next to him under it. It's not my first time napping with him, but most of the time he refuses. He says that he is a kicker in his sleep and that he doesn't want to hurt me.
The sofa in our living room is quite small so I have to basically lay on Wooyoung. Just as I close my eyes, I feel his hand around my waist, bringing me even closer to him. Now my head was on his chest and I was surrounded by his scent and warmth. This must be what heaven feels like. Usually when we sleep like this together, it takes us a few hours to fall asleep. Mainly because he can't stop making jokes and I can't stop laughing. But this is different. It's calm. It's beautiful.
I couldn't tell if he was asleep or just pretending. He held me close and rubbed my back slowly. "Wooyoung?" I tried calling.
"Hm?" he responds sleepily.
"Are you okay?" I look up at him. His eye are still closed, but his fingers are still drawing tiny patterns on my waist and back.
"Mhm." again, I receive a short answer. When I try to move and give him some space so he can sleep peacefully, he opens his eyes to look at me. "Please don't move. I want to sleep like this." one of his hands moved my hair from both of our faces. "Please?" he asked, almost whispering.
I have never witnessed this side of Wooyoung. His voice was different, his movements were different, his eyes were different. This is the Wooyoung I wanted for myself, but couldn't have him. It took me a few longer seconds to realise that we are staring at each other, doing nothing but breathing quietly. Once his hot breath fell on my lips I couldn't help but close my eyes and sigh. Right now, I hoped for one thing to happen.
"Why can't I have you like this every day?" his soft voice whispered. I try to speak, but as soon as I move my lips, I feel something soft brushing against them. My breath stops and I force myself to open my eyes. He's looking down at my lips as if thinking if the next step is smart to do. I allow myself a moment of bravery and I put my hands on his chest, getting closer to him. "F**k it." he mutters, finally putting his hands on my cheeks and pressing his lips against mine.
His lips must've been the softest thing to exist on this planet. I tried to move, but my body was frozen. I couldn't do anything, just lay and enjoy the softness and the warmth of his lips. He pulled away for a second, trying to say something, but when he didn't succeed, he went back to the older position. Then, again, he pulls away.
"You are so sweet. You taste like I always imagined." the red cheeked boy whispers, brushing the tip of his nose against mine.
"More, please." I manage to say. My lips and throat are dry, my mind is going crazy, and my stomach is witnessing fireworks. Wooyoung smiles, still not letting go of my cheeks. "Please." I get impatient.
He leans in again, this time kissing me with more passion. It stopped being sweet and soft, now only one word existed in my mind: more. And he happily listened.

street lights, people
A/N: WOO I got it done on time! I’m so excited to share the second installment in my biker!Fennec x pediatrician!reader story. I appreciate how kind everyone has been and I hope you all enjoy this chapter. Thanks again to maybege for letting me tell my story in this universe. I promise that we’ll get more into Fennec’s past and why she does what she does, it just isn’t time yet.
Rating: T
Warnings: References to child abuse with NO descriptions except that the child was admitted and seen by the trauma surgery service, I don’t think there’s anything else except for some tooth rotting fluff/flirting/smooching.
Word count: 2.5k
Chapter Two: January 11th
“Would you just text her already? You have her number; I don’t see what the holdup is.” Boba tossed the socket wrench back into the open drawer and closed it. He wiped at the grease on his hands with a blue paper towel. “Besides, you need to take her to a BACA meeting anyway. She hasn’t partnered with us officially and needs to know more if this judge is sticking around.”
“You don’t mean—” Fennec looked up from the email she was writing.
“Yes, that’s exactly what I mean. Get your ass up, get your phone, and tell her she should come tonight.”
“But she’s probably going to be too tired.”
“Just. Ask. Her.” He picked her phone up from where she had left it when she set up her work area for the day and held it in front of her face to unlock it. “Or do I need to call her office and pretend to be you?”
She snatched the phone away from him and opened up the conversation with you.
Got home safe, thank you
Good. Sweet dreams, Doc -fs
Those two messages had haunted her since she sent hers. She wondered if she should have said less, or said hi in the meantime? Either way, she typed out the message.
What are you doing tonight? -fs
She set the phone down, went back to her work.
***
You picked at the sad chicken in your bowl. You really needed to do a better job of anticipating what you would want to eat through the week when you cooked on Sundays. Rolling your eyes at it, you scraped it into the trash can. You were washing the dish and its lid when you felt your phone vibrate for what seemed like the 80th time that day. Sighing, you dried it off and put it in your lunchbox and sat back down at the communal table in the breakroom. It was empty for now, the students and residents off getting work done in the hopes of not staying past sign out. You pulled your phone out and opened up the message without looking at the sender.
What are you doing tonight? -fs
It took you by surprise to be sure. You felt badly about not replying to her since Friday, but if you were honest with yourself, you knew that you hadn’t been ignoring her intentionally. The days had been long as you transitioned to your week covering this service and you barely had time to feed and bathe yourself.
Same thing I always do, try and take over the world.
And by take over the world I mean go to bed
Do you have time to come to a BACA meeting? It starts at 5:30 -fs
You considered for a moment. You had a few more patients to round on, but otherwise your job was done for the day. You looked at the time, 12:30. You could make it.
I can make that happen. Where do you meet?
The reply was almost immediate.
Boba’s Garage. There’s a makeshift conference room. -fs
Sounds good. I’ll see you there.
You walked back into the kitchen area and started a fresh pot of coffee. You wondered what they could possibly want with you; you weren’t a biker. Sure, you were stern when you were advocating for your kids, but you weren’t even close to being on their level. Well, you thought to yourself, at least you can see her in her element this time, learn what they did in more detail.
***
You hurried up the expanse of concrete to the open garage, trying not to fall but also trying not to be late. A last-minute admission had turned your plenty-of-time-to-maybe-shower-and-then-get-there afternoon into a oh-no-I’m-going-to-be-late-and-they’re-going-to-be-mad evening. You saw the open door, heard voices coming from it and hurried to it. You took a deep breath and tried to slink in unnoticed. But of course, it was a conference room. There were people seated all around it, all talking amongst themselves still. Whew.
You saw an empty chair along the wall and sat down, trying to blend in with the wall as best you could. The scrubs you wore were wrinkled and your baby hairs were sticking straight up from the day you had had. You tried to smooth them down as best you could, swearing you would have a wash day tomorrow when you had the afternoon to work from home on things for CPS. You had no idea why Fennec wanted you here, but you hoped your appearance wouldn’t take away from whatever it was.
You sat in silence as you heard her call the meeting to order. Silence fell. She controlled the room. You crossed your legs as you listened to her.
You listened to them discuss financial matters, an upcoming meeting with another chapter. Then the attention turned to the reason the club existed: the kids.
“As you all know, we’ve heard some rumors about certain kids around town. Today I got confirmation that one of them was hospitalized this afternoon.” Fennec went on to describe what the story was without naming names and your eyes went wide as you realized she was talking about the toddler you had admitted this afternoon for the trauma service. How did she know? Your team was diligent about patient privacy and none of them would ever violate that, so how did she know? “…I worked with Peli all afternoon coming up with a plan and we decided that BACA needed to get involved once this little one gets out of the hospital.”
Peli? Social work? You started putting the pieces together. That was how she knew. You listened as they discussed plans for various outcomes: if they went home, if they went to temporary placement, if there would be a hearing before they were discharged. You listened, still not sure what you were doing here but appreciating that you got to hear what they were discussing, got to know what you offered when you gave the contact card disguised as a business card for a medical supply company.
They wrapped up their discussions, started gathering their things and dispersing. You would go to Fennec, but you had no desire to interrupt her in her space. So, you sat and waited as the room started emptying and engines started kicking to life outside.  As the last person left, you stood up carefully.
“You came.”
“Of course I came, I said I would. Sorry I was late.”
“What are you talking about? You weren’t late. And I figured you would be cutting it close when Peli told me you were the one admitting the little one. I know these things take time.” You walked closer to her, perching on the conference room table to her right.
“Uh, thanks. Do you mind if I ask how you know Peli?” She had worked with you since you had started your contract.
“I don’t mind. I’m a social worker there too, I just usually work on the adult side of things. I only started getting introduced to the peds side when I got this gig.” You nodded as she spoke.
“Thank you for inviting me. I appreciate everything you all do, and I can’t tell you what it means to me that I got to learn a little more about what’s behind those cards behind the desk at the office.”
“It was Boba’s idea.” She readjusted the already perfectly stacked papers in front of her. “He threatened to call your office and pretend to be me if I didn’t invite you myself.”
You huffed out a laugh as you bumped your knee against hers.
“Then I’m grateful to the both of you. Thank him for me, would you? I—” Your eyes went wide as your stomach growled and interrupted your thought.”
“Damn, Doc don’t they teach you all to take care of yourselves? Did you eat today?”
“You know, they claim to, but it’s more ‘here’s how you can be more efficient about selfcare so that you can work more and not actually do anything about your quality of life’ and less ‘we genuinely care about you not passing out in a patient’s room or dropping dead of exhaustion.’ I hated what I brought today and had coffee and swore I was going to go to the café to get a snack but that didn’t happen, got too busy.”
She grabbed your hand and gave it a tug to get you to stand up.
“Come on, I’m buying you dinner from this little diner we all go to. You can thank Boba yourself and I can make sure you get a decent meal.”
You nodded, gave her hand a squeeze in thanks.
“Do you want me to drive?”
“Nah, it’s only a couple blocks away and besides, you’re not fit to drive right now.”
You rolled your eyes at that.
“I’m fine, I promise.”
“I know you think you are but come with me anyway.”
You nodded and she led you out of the conference room and then the garage out into the cold night air.
“I need to get my coat since we’re walking.” She just nodded and kept your hand in hers until you reached your car. You unlocked in, pulled the door open and grabbed the same wool coat you had been wearing when she rescued you, pulled it on. As you locked up and turned back to her, she took your hand again.
You walked in silence, which gave you plenty of time to sneak glances at her face, illuminated in the orange streetlights as you walked. The glow and the crunch of salt under your feet was hypnotic. As you got to the diner, light snow started again, making you grateful you were at your destination. She opened the door for you and dropped your hand again so you could pull the coat off and hang it up by the door.
“Hey, Fennec! You guys sit wherever you like,” the waitress called from behind the counter. “I’ll be over in just a sec.”
“Come on, you can thank him then we’ll sit as far away from him as we can.” She laughed. You thought you were going to swoon from her laugh.
“Sounds good, lead the way.”
“Boba, this is her.”
You held out your hand and introduced yourself.
“Ah, the famous Doc. We’ve all heard so much about you from Shand here.” He chuckled and gave Fennec a knowing grin as she groaned quietly.
“All good things, I hope? I just wanted to thank you for having Fennec invite me to the meeting tonight.”
“It’s no problem. And if that judge is going to keep handling abuse cases, we’re going to need you to know what we do, how we operate. I heard from a buddy from the last district they worked that they want all depositions given on the stand in front of them.”
You groaned internally at that. Your scheduling was going to get a lot more complicated.
“Thanks again,” you said as Fennec led you, true to her word, to a booth as far away from Boba and his line of sight as she could get you the two of you. You slid into the seat and she sat down across from you. You folded your hands on the table, then in your lap. “So, um, hi. I just want to say I’m really sorry for not replying the last few days. It’s been hectic and I haven’t had a lot of time to do anything for pleasure or leisure.”
“It’s okay. You’re a busy person, your job demands a lot of you and contrary to what a lot of people think, I know you’re not some all-powerful hero. You’re a person, doing what you need to do.”
You could have kissed her.
“You have no idea what it means to hear you say that. But enough about work and my inability to take care of myself some days. How have you been?”
***
You used the last bit of ketchup on your last fry as you listened to her tell you her story, about where she grew up, where she went to school, how she landed in this town and met Boba. How the two of them started the MC and that it had started as the two of them plus Din and Paz who you had yet to meet. When you were finished, you kept listening, you could listen to her all night. But it wasn’t long before you had to stifle a yawn.
“Come on, you need to go to sleep.” She slid the bill over to her, pulling out her wallet and wrapping a few bills up in it before you could get a word in of protest. “Boba will make sure no one takes it, let’s get out of here.” She stood and held out a hand to you, which you took. The two of you made your way over to where your coat hung and walked out as you shimmied into it. You tucked your hands into your pockets and squeezed the pocket warmers before you let her take your hand again, threading her fingers through yours.
The two of you walked in comfortable silence. The snow was still coming down, just flurries now, but with the promise of more to come. When you could see your car again, you both slowed your steps, neither of you quite ready to say goodnight, but you knew you had to, or you would be just that much more tired tomorrow, more on edge. She squeezed your hand once, twice as you got to it, now dusted with the white powder. You turned to face her.
“Thank you, for dinner, for talking, for inviting me, for everything.”
“No problem, Doc, really.”
You glanced back and forth between her eyes and her lips. You took a half-step toward her, tilted your head just to the right.
She brought her other hand up, cupped your cheek before brushing your hair out of your face. Her smirk made a brief appearance before she pressed her lips to yours. You kissed her back, letting yourself get lost as she brought her arms around your waist under your coat. Yours wrapped around her shoulders in response. She deepened the kiss, slipping her tongue along your lips briefly before you let your own brush against it. She tightened her grip on you, one hand sliding down into the back pocket of your scrubs.
When the two of you came up for air, you rested your forehead against hers, letting your breathing stay in sync. She made a small noise of displeasure as she leaned back, untangling from you and your coat.
“Fuck, I don’t want you to leave. But you need to. Go get some sleep, Doc. Let me know when you get home.”
“Fine, but I want you to do the same or I might just have to worry about you.”
“I can do that. Night,” she whispered in your ear before kissing your cheek and stepping back to let you drive away in the orange glow.

Snowdrift
AO3
Rating: T+ (for swearing)
Summary: Three friends and  their dog get lost in a snowstorm while investigating the paranormal. Amidst swirling flurries of white, some lose their way and get lost in their memories, others lose sight of their friends and loved ones, and an unforgiving winter quickly fills in the footprints one would follow to get back home.
A/N: I started this back in November 2019 but sadly never finished the work. I was thinking of holding off till it started to snow again, but figured now was as good a time as any to try and finish this. The title is taken from Snail's House song "[snowdrift]" which you can check out here!
Tumblr media
My hopes of having a regular posting schedule were completely dashed by the disaster that is the year 2020. But I’m still here, I’m still writing, and though I don’t know when the next chapter will be, I know there will be another. Beware that from here on, there may be some slight SPOILERS for the latest MSA video, “The Future!” If you haven’t already watched it though, you absolutely should, it was amazing, and the whole team who worked on it are all so talented!!

Chapter One
Chapter Seven
Lewis glanced behind him to watch as Vivi and Mystery disappeared into the woods, the flashlight beam wavering as his friends passed behind trees and headed deeper into the forest. His own fluorescence gave the surrounding snowdrifts a soft, pink glow, illuminating his path as he headed along where he guessed the road to be under the thick blanket of snow. The ghost fought the urge to turn around and check on Vivi and Mystery again, knowing if he gave in now he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from watching until the last glimmer of their flashlight faded from view. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust them to take care of themselves. He knew how fearsome Mystery could be, even after his injury, and though Vivi was frustrated by her lack of mastery over magic, she’d taken to it readily. If her friends were in danger, Lewis knew nothing would stop her, magic or no. It was just hard for him to give up old habits. He couldn’t help but think of being the protector as his role in the group, especially after so many years of Arthur hiding behind him. Despite his size, Lewis had never been much of a fighter when he was alive. He’d always relied on his height and broad shoulders to intimidate, whether it was Arthur’s high school bullies or whatever monster of the week had decided to pick a fight with them. His death had surprisingly come with a few benefits, the supernatural speed at which he now travelled being just one of them. Already he had come to the bend in the road where their near miss had occurred just days ago, the guardrail and sign warped out of place from the impact with the van. Lewis ran his hand along the arrow on the sign, brushing loose snow to the ground.
It was hard to believe that they had been having snowball fights and drinking hot cocoa just the other day. The snow which had once been so entrancing to him now seemed ominous and deadly, the winter wonderland having transformed into a frozen wasteland. Lewis suppressed a shiver. He shouldn’t have been able to feel the freezing temperatures, but the cold gnawed at his bones nonetheless. He was reminded of the walk-in freezer at the Pepper Paradiso. Once, while he’d still been in high school, Lewis had accidentally locked himself in the walk-in at the restaurant. He’d only been stuck for about fifteen minutes, but the cold had seemed unbearable for even that short amount of time. He’d been lucky that Ma and Pa Pepper were so quick to get him out. He couldn’t get his teeth to stop chattering until his mom had fixed him up a special batch of her hot chocolate flavored with cinnamon and cayenne pepper. Lewis remembered sitting in the dining area, cradling his mug of hot chocolate as his dad rubbed a hand up and down his arm to help warm him up. His mother had been livid and had immediately called the fridge manufacturer to demand they send someone to replace the faulty door release on the inside of the walk-in. Despite his parents’ best efforts, the chill hadn’t left him until late that night when he was curled up in bed, bundled in extra blankets.
Lewis wondered just how long Arthur had been gone before the others had discovered him missing. He feared that the mechanic had been gone too long already. He knew now just how fragile people were, and given Arthur’s tendency to stress himself out and forgo basic needs, he worried for the mechanic more than most. Shifting his focus from his worries to the task at hand, Lewis turned to search the expanse of snow surrounding him, trying to find a sign that the mechanic had been this way at all. Each direction looked the same as the others though. It was impossible to tell if it was because Lewis had picked the wrong way to go or if the belligerent snowfall had simply covered Arthur’s tracks. Without any kind of path to follow, Lewis picked a direction at random. Phasing through the twisted metal of the guardrail, he sped away from the road into the snowy fields beyond to continue his search. The plains the ghost now flew over were as flat and empty as the rest of the landscape had been. Lewis hoped it would make the mechanic easy to spot, even with the moon covered by clouds and the thick snowfall still coming down. The snow in the distance went almost blue with shadows, but if he passed close enough to the mechanic, the ghost was sure he would recognize the bright orange color his friend so frequently wore.
“Arthur!” Lewis called. The snow on the ground muffled his shout, and the lowly moaning winds quickly drowned out the remaining sound. Still, Lewis couldn’t help but feel disappointed when he received no response. The spirit pushed onwards, constantly scanning his surroundings for a glimpse of familiar orange amidst all the white. As he rushed further away from the road to continue his search for Arthur, Lewis was struck with a sense of déjà vu. For a moment, he could have sworn that the snowy landscape had shifted, changing from a seemingly barren tundra to a familiar hallway, lined with portraits and doors that looped back in on each other in impossible patterns. The stripes in the wallpaper blurred together as he flew by, hunting down the scrawny mechanic that had betrayed him.
“Arthur!” the ghost bellowed.
Lewis skidded to an abrupt halt, shocked by the wrathful tone of his own voice. As he looked around again, he was back in the snowy field that lay beyond the bend in the road, no haunted mansion in sight. Just an endless, featureless white landscape. It had all been so real, the desire to find Arthur and punish him so strong, that for a moment Lewis had forgotten where he was. He’d forgotten himself and had lost the careful control he had on his anger. Even now that the specter had forgiven Arthur and come to peace with his own demise, the rage never seemed to go away. It was always simmering just below the surface, waiting for him to slip up and boil over. Afterall, it wasn’t just his attachment to Vivi that had brought him back, but his desire for vengeance as well. This anger was a part of him now, as much as he hated it, as much as he was afraid of it. Normally he kept it buried deep, able to force it back down whenever it reared its ugly head. He hadn’t felt such an intense flare of rage in months, and his fury had never boiled over without any provocation before. The imagined cold that had seeped into his bones was now completely burned out, the golden locket that served as his anchor thrumming with anger.
Did he really still hate his friend so much?
Lewis shook his skull back and forth, his hair flickering wildly at the movement. He had to keep it together. He thought back to all the late night conversations with Arthur that had helped to keep his loneliness at bay over the last few months. How before the cave, they would camp out on top of the van and look at the stars, guessing at the names of constellations, the mechanic at ease enough to fill the silence with idle chatter about science fiction and space travel. He remembered how his friend had helped him study for the law school he’d hoped to get into, shuffling through stacks of flash cards filled with legal jargon over milkshakes at the restaurant. Teenage years spent at each other’s houses, sleepovers filled with binge watching Sailor Moon andsuffering through Surf’s Up Pizza because he knew how much Arthur liked it. The only kid in middle school who had readily accepted that Lewis hadn’t been a part of the Pepper household up until the day he was.
The ghost put a hand to his anchor, willing himself to calm down as he wrapped his fingers around the heart-shaped locket. He didn’t hate Arthur. At least, not anymore. Facing down a murderous, possessed kitsune together hadn’t magically spirited away the hurt Lewis had felt. His behavior towards Arthur had ranged from cold to cruel in the first couple of months following their reunion. During one disastrous case, it had gotten bad enough that the mechanic had almost walked away from the Mystery Skulls for good. While on an investigation out of town, Lewis had lost his tenuous grip on his temper and had blown up at the mechanic to a nuclear degree. Arthur had fled, even leaving his precious van behind, determined to hitchhike his way back home to Tempo. Mystery had tried to talk the mechanic out of it, but Vivi had ended up having to drag Arthur away from the roadside herself. With the mechanic refusing to talk, the blue-haired girl had resorted to taking him to a bar and had plied him with alcohol to get him to open up. Arthur had finally broken down into a blubbering mess after several drinks. Once their tab had been paid and the mechanic tucked away safely in the back of the van to sleep it off, Vivi had tracked down Lewis to give the ghost a piece of her mind with a stern lecture that Ma Pepper would have been proud of. While she was sympathetic to the ghost’s position, she reminded him that it wasn’t really Arthur who had pushed him off the cliff, and that the mechanic had been devastated and desperate to find Lewis after he’d gone missing. Vivi also pointed out it wasn’t fair to force her to choose between the faithful friend she’d had by her side over the past year and someone she had only just started to remember having loved. Faced with the prospect of tearing the Mystery Skulls apart and driving away the people he cared about, the ghost had begrudgingly agreed to try and put the past behind him.
With the winter winds swirling around him, Lewis could feel the beating of the heart in his hand slow to a steady thump, thump, thump as he reminisced. Things had been hard at first. The smallest of slights irked the ghost, and it took tremendous concentration to think before he snapped. He had still failed on occasion, with his only choice then being to leave his friends behind while he cooled off. Little by little though, he was able to box up his resentment and pack it away, having a much easier time dealing with it in smaller pieces. He then found he could control his anger, and even if it had become a part of him, it didn’t have to control him. Talking with Mystery had helped. The kitsune had centuries of life experience to draw from, and was more than happy to offer advice or just sit back and listen when Lewis needed him to. Vivi was just as willing to help, but couldn’t always stop herself from offering up ideas and solutions when Lewis talked about his problems. Sometimes it was nice to have someone to just listen without interruption. With time, practice, and help from his friends, the ghost was finally able to be around Arthur again, and being around his former friend reminded Lewis of why they had been friends in the first place. After a while, he found he actually liked being around Arthur, even in their new circumstances. He wanted to try and be friends again, but there had been so much to remedy between them. It had taken a long time for the mechanic to let his guard down around the ghost, not that Lewis could blame him. When he finally did, they had slowly begun to mend their friendship, but something was still missing. Lewis struggled at times to keep his distance, not wanting the mechanic to feel uncomfortable or threatened by his presence after so much bad blood between them. He waited respectfully for Arthur to bridge the gap, but, even now, the mechanic still seemed wary of him. Lewis had to wonder if his friend just needed more time or if he’d irreparably broken something between them. The ghost would never forgive himself if he’d missed his chance to fix things. Lewis looked at the locket in his hand and flipped it open. Eyes unclouded by anger, he could clearly see the picture of the four of them it contained. Together, just the way they should be.
All he wanted now was his best friend back.
Lewis heaved a sigh, closing the locket again as he prepared to continue his search. The sight of the golden heart had given him an idea. Concentrating, the spirit summoned his coffin, the dark lacquered wood standing out against the snow. The casket lid sprung open to reveal six purple-colored spirits, each adorned with a small golden heart of their own. The Dead Beats immediately poured out of the coffin, winding around Lewis’s shoulders and bumping up against his shins. Vivi had been enthralled to be able to study the small ghosts up close once they’d been formally introduced. According to Mystery, they were weaker spirits drawn to Lewis’s power, feeding on his cast-off energy. The kitsune had assured the Mystery Skulls that they weren’t some kind of paranormal parasite though, and no harm would come to Lewis from their presence. It was a symbiotic relationship, and while there was no direct benefit to him, Lewis did find he enjoyed their company. They reminded him of affectionate cats sometimes. Especially with the way they rubbed against his legs, humming instead of purring, as they did now.
“I’m happy to see you too,” Lewis said earnestly, patting at one of the little specters’ heads, “But right now I need your help. Can you do something for me?”
The Dead Beats harmonized in a way he knew meant ‘yes’.
“Good,” he replied, “Arthur is missing. I need you to split up and help me look for him. If you find him, come tell me where he is right away. Can you do that?”
Another affirmative humming sound.
“Thank you! Please, go as quick as you can!” Lewis set about pointing each of the Dead Beats in a different direction, one of them doubling back to see if Arthur had travelled further along the road Lewis had left behind. The others fanned out through the field to cover more ground and expand their search radius. Lewis watched as they took off in every direction, zipping over the snowbanks as they began to search for the mechanic. Satisfied, he continued forwards on the path he’d chosen for himself. There were now six extra sets of eyes looking for the lost mechanic. Lewis only hoped that if one of them did find Arthur, they wouldn’t try to play any tricks on him. The Dead Beats had quite a mischievous streak, with Arthur being the favorite target of their practical jokes and pranks. Having the extra help in his search was a huge relief, but Lewis knew he wouldn’t truly feel at ease until his friend had been safely recovered.
Please don’t let me be too late…to find him…to fix things.
There was still so much Lewis wanted to say. They never talked about that night in the cave, and though sometimes Lewis felt that they didn’t have to, he did wonder if it would help. He hoped he would get the chance to find out. While Lewis had calmed himself considerably, his worried thoughts still tumbled about like a brewing storm as he continued the search for his missing friend. He ignored that, deep beneath the hopes and fears he felt, a spark of anger was still burning in his chest, refusing to go out.

Survey #394
“just want one thing  /  just to play the king  /  but the castle’s crumbled and you’re left with just a name  /  where’s your crown, king nothing?”
Do you have your ears pierced more than once? Yeah; I have two in my earlobes and my right tragus pierced. I used to have a cartilage and anti-tragus piercing, but they closed when I had to take them out at the hospital. -_- Do you use an electric toothbrush? Yep. Have you ever seen a queen bee outside its hive? I don't believe so? Have you ever used Duolingo? No. Do you think the number 13 is unlucky? No. Which Clue (or Cluedo) character is your favourite? I always played Scarlet because I thought she was pretty. Do you have any novelty ice cube trays? No. Have you ever had a bad experience meeting a bf’s/gf’s parents? No. Do you get sick of eating turkey during the holidays? I don't eat turkey because I don't like it. I have honey spiral ham instead. Have you ever danced on a table? No. Did you have a lot of fun as a little kid? Yeah. Is there someone you can talk to all day, never running out of stuff to say? Some days. Ham or turkey? Ham. Would you rather eat nothing but fruits or nothing but cheese sandwiches? Fruit. What’s the last song you sung along to? I think Shinedown's "Get Up" while I was in the car. You get to be in any tv series or movie. (old/new) What are you choosing? Let's seeee... maybe Wonderland! Do you meditate? No; it actually stresses me out because I can't completely clear my head. What’s your go-to song when you’re angry? "Headache" by Motionless In White is a good one. What do you think about the most? My weight, honestly. It's at least an itching thought in my head at ALL times. Just being able to feel that I'm overweight and simply glimpsing a fatty part of my body is so, so upsetting. I usually look in the mirror to see if my face is slimmer whenever I pass one, or I'll grasp a part of my body to just feel if I've lost weight there. I could really go on and on about this, but I'd rather not, given it's depressing me talking about it. Have you ever visited any celebrity gravesites? No. How do you feel about archaeology? It's extremely fascinating to me. Any animals whose behaviors you find particularly interesting? ALL animals! Meerkats, however, quite obviously top my list. I love love love social animals, and their behaviors and deep connections remind me of just how human animals really can be, but honestly better half the time. What are your thoughts on gun control? There MUST be reform. I don't think entirely taking away the right to bear arms is the answer, but there needs, needs, NEEDS to be some serious tidying up regarding it. I believe it should be much more difficult to legally obtain a firearm with very extensive background checks and things of the like. I firmly do believe it would help SOME to prevent gun violence. Nothing is ever going to completely stop it unless firearms just cease to exist, but anything that helps reduce it is worth it. Would you have a big cat (like a tiger) for a pet if you could? Absolutely not. Big cats are extremely dangerous with strong hunting instincts, and besides putting my life at risk, I am not forcing a large animal into a small space. Do you like animals better than most humans? Sure as hell do. What simple things in life bring you the most joy? Hearing birds chirping in the morning, crickets and toads at night, starting my soda for the day (rip), watching snow fall, feeling a cool breeze on a nice day with the windows open, my pets wanting to cuddle... just to name a few. I massively appreciate the small things, so I could make this a very long list. What are your favorite smells? Cinnamon rolls, coffee, fresh baked bread, lilac, honeysuckles, etc. Ever found anything cool at a thrift store? What was it? Yeah! I've found some dragon figurines I use for decor, but the absolute coolest has to be this shipwreck lamp that I bought. I love flea markets. How do you find new music to listen to when you want it? YouTube recommendations, usually. Do you like all those dystopian future books/movies? They're all right. If you collect anything, what is your favorite piece of that collection? I collect two types of things: meerkat-oriented and Silent Hill stuff. My favorite part of my meerkat collection is Rebel, my super cute plushy that Jason got me. I slept with it for years and even now that we're done, I still hold the little guy very dear to me. My favorite SH piece I have is a limited edition, Japanese flyer for Silent Hill: Revelation that I won in a giveaway. How did you meet your significant other (if you have one)? N/A How did you meet your best friend? Via YouTube. Your favorite place to be aside from your home? Sara's house. Do you have any favorite books you’d like to have signed by the author? It'd be dooooope if I could have Tim Clutton-Brock sign my copy of Flower's biography. Do you like any board games or card games? I mean yeah. Not a lot, but some. What is your least favorite beverage? Of the things I've tried, probably black coffee. Do you like Breaking Benjamin? I do! What kind of music do you like? Metal, rock, alternative, and indie. Do you like guys with long hair? Yes. Have you ever seen an elephant? Yes. How many people of the opposite sex have you told you loved them? One, if you mean romantically. Do you and your mom get along? Yeah, we're really close. Have you ever had to change your phone number? Twice that I recall. I got a creepy text once, and another with threats. Ever been bitten by a spider? Not to my knowledge. When you were little did you jump in puddles? Oh, absolutely. Bugs: Cool or gross. Even though I'm scared of some of them, they're certainly still cool. Well, most. Do you wear a toe ring? No, I don't find those attractive at all. Have you ever had to babysit before? Twice, even though I didn't want to. Do you actually eat your fortune cookie, if you get one? Yeah, I like 'em. What's your favorite thing about cats? I enjoy how calm and independent they are. Salt, or pepper? I like both, but I prefer to have salt. Think of an ex. What's his favorite color? Jason's were green and purple. Which is better, the taste, or smell of coffee? I only like the smell. What item appears the most in your room? Meerkat stuff. Liquid eyeliner, is good, or totally sucks? My hands are WAY too shaky for that. Has a stray dog ever tried to bite you? No. Do you currently have any bug bites? No. Do you multitask well? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Do you know what an "AMV" is? Yes, because I used to make them and am considering getting back into it. What’s one award show you have to watch every year? None. Who do you like more: the Batman or the Joker? The Joker. Have you ever had a pet rock? I don't recall, actually? I might have as a little kid. Haha, there was one April Fool's Day that Mark sold rocks with his mustached "M" on them, and I SO wanted one. He gave all the earnings to a charity that I can't remember, so that also really made me wanna get one, but yeah, I was NOT asking Mom for even a small amount of money for a rock, haha. She woulda been so fucking confused. Do you know anyone with a lazy eye? Knew, rather. Did your parents let you have pets when you were a kid? Yes. What band was on the last band t-shirt you wore? Ummmm... I'm not sure. Maybe Korn? What’s the last movie you watched at a friend’s house? Elf, I believe? Do you have any tattoos on your arms? Yep. Do you own a teapot? No. Did you have a GI Joe when you were a kid? No. What is the origin of your last name? Irish. Do you ever use the "n"-word? NO. What piercing do you like most on the opposite sex? It would depend on the person, but probably some sort of lip ring(s). What is your salad dressing of choice? Ranch, or the kind from Olive Garden. Have you ever written anything longer than 10 pages? Yes. I wrote a massive essay on toxic masculinity during my last college attempt. I got WAY more into it than I thought I would.
