Let’s Talk Flavor: Commentary
Tumblr media
I would say overall that most of these cards were fantastic and a great number of the story ideas were good. There will be parts where I suggest edits, and the thing about story edits is, well, it doesn’t impact game design. That’s the thing about the Fair and the thing about Magic in general: the whole thing could be replicated with number systems and program lines and it would be the exact same. It’s the fact that a creature has Flying, or that a spell is made of Lightning that makes the game exciting. This was an interesting experiment.
Let’s talk about cards!
Tumblr media
@ace-hobo — Captain’s Wrench
This is a perfectly fine card. I like the “fixed” Voltaic Key style, the moderate power level. It’s a card that someone would probably be middling in artifact decks but fine in budget builds. I’m sort of feeling an Ixalan vibe, maybe with a little steampunkishness. I get that the wrench belongs to De, but it’s a little confusing regarding why they have the wrench. If they’re the captain and they’re not in the engine room, why is the card depicting a tool that would suit them better if they never left the engine room? Maybe the story should be about how DESPITE their captain status, they spend time in the engine room. It’s an easy enough tweak.
Tumblr media
@cas-420 — Boiling Blood
The card is pretty good. It’s very aggressive and has synergistic potential. I really don’t see where the flavor is tying into it. I am favorably inclined towards your text, in concept. I can see where you were making the pun on “execution.” The wording is clunky with the repeated syntax, and could have just used the execution line. But what does that have to do with the card? The flavor evokes dissent, protest, retaliation. The flavor of the card evokes speed, purpose, initiative. It’s not a perfect tonal match. I would save the text for a different card with a clearer purpose
Tumblr media
@dabudder — Wisdom of the Tides
In terms of card wording, I believe you’d be looking for something like Mysteries of the Deep, where you have an “instead” wording — unless you’re supposed to draw an additional card after? It’s a little confusing how you have it now. Still, Flourish is a fine mechanic, executed well. This was pretty close to being a runner-up. I like the nod towards crabs. We’ve been having a crab mood lately. Overall, not bad. Might need to be four mana, but that’s me being cautious.
Tumblr media
@deafeningsandwichpeach — Jyska, Artificer Overlord
The name is probably the best thing about this card, and it’s fair enough for a legendary creature. Considering that this is essentially the Nim ability from original Mirrodin and that it’s a vanilla creature otherwise, I would contest that you’re severely overestimating the power level of this card. It’s not as strong as it seems. In terms of flavor text, this is basically exposition. I won’t dissuade you from story-rich cards, but there’s too much information presented in a manner that overloads the reader. Simplify, punch, beat, punctuate. In terms of presentation, the whole block should be in quotes, and you don’t need to attribute the quote if the character’s on the card itself.
Tumblr media
@demimonde-semigoddess — Thaw
Great name, great snow flavor. I can see this in the tundra wastes, something emerging from the snow, bursting out. I had to do some digging. As it turns out, “gelid” is a real English word I had no idea about! I thought from the shackles and your flavor text that it was some Coldsnap lore. In terms of the text itself, it’s not bad. It’s just that the two statements are somewhat disconnected. They work both on their own, but together, they don’t gel well. Still, bonus points to mechanical flavor for an anti-ice feel.
Tumblr media
@dimestoretajic — Phytotemple
The card is pretty funky for an uncommon, pushed but not busted. I’d call it a pain in the butt but no more than Wayfaring Temple. Ah, I see, the wayfarers, an homage. But there’s a lot I don’t understand. Who lost the wayfarers? Who’s saying this quote? Why did the phytotemples start appearing in general? Did the original wayfaring temples break into them? What does Selesnya have to do with construction crews? How is that related to the phytotemple’s physiology and motivation? Most importantly, why is there a street named after a Selesnya dissident? I think you should have focused on one specific area of the card’s backstory.
Tumblr media
@emmypupcake — Bloom Nurturer
I was really surprised that there wasn’t a card already named this. In terms of card wording, look at High Tide or Bubbling Muck; I think it would read “Until end of turn, whenever you tap a Forest for mana, add an additional G.” The quote doesn’t light my world on fire, but it fits well and reads well. Just remember to indent the attribution with shift+enter. Overall? Good enough.
Tumblr media
@fractured-infinity — Shara, Skalla Vengeant
I had to do a little digging, but I like how you incorporated Vivien’s lore in here. That said, Skalla is also, well, destroyed, presumably forever. Where did the spirit come from? Is it wandering around Skalla? In that case, did Vivien go back? Why? That raises a couple questions. In terms of this card, it’s broken. In anything but the most pushed Commander formats, it’s three mana to deal seven damage to any creature you want with minimal repercussions. Any prevention makes her impossible to deal with. In limited, she would sweep unfairly.
Tumblr media
@ghost31415926535 — Man-Eater Wurm
Firstly, I would like to apologize for the flavor bar being in the middle of the line. That’s my bad. Let’s talk about the rest of the card. In concept, it shouldn’t be too overpowered. But deathtouch and trample together create complex rules baggage that many casual players simply don’t understand. Nine times out of ten, they’ll never be printed together. Seeing that this is exactly how you submitted it, consider for next time: Only the first keyword needs to be capitalized in a string. Something like Unearth needs its own line. The flavor text is standard enough. Just remember that quote attribution also needs its own line.
Tumblr media
@gollumni — Gives You Hell
I love the name here. I got that All-American Rejects song stuck in my head now. Remember that one? Anyway. Firstly, you don’t need to put “target” there; “Enchant creature” implies it. Secondly, and least importantly, don’t forget you can add watermarks in MSE! Thirdly, the flavor text. I get it, but it doesn’t flow great. If there was some wordplay to be done on fire-spitting and whatever turn of phrase you used, like, “spitting poison” in the literal sense — I don’t know, I just expect something a little more concise. It’s a great concept and has the potential to be very funny, so points there. Also, the card itself? Fantastic.
Tumblr media
@greensunzenith — Decorated Demon
Liking the name. I don’t like how this card has to be a rare. It’s more of an annoyance than anything. It feels like a card that prevents decisions. It’s not aggressive, nor is it particularly interactive. Conceptually it works, but I’m not in favor. The flavor text is a bit of a head-scratcher. The real question is: who is giving demons sigils? How do they become redeemed? On what world CAN demons become redeemed? This isn’t a Bant thing, is it? I’m a little lost as to the specifics, since it doesn’t play into any tropes and doesn’t inform the world in a recognizable way.
Tumblr media
@i-am-the-one-who-wololoes — Goblin Decorator
If the flavor text had simply been, in quotes, “Earwigs would go so well with that wallpaper!”, then this card could have been a runner-up. Also, this should definitely be an uncommon. The effect is awesome and powerful and annoying and plays into a variety of strategies. Still, the flavor text is just...too much. It’s a lot of text that tells a story that doesn’t really need to be told. We get enough from the name and that last sentence, combined with a fun ability that matches the card. That’s all we need! Gotta simplify.
Tumblr media
@ignorantturtlegaming — Dust, Revenant Force
For future cards, I would highly recommend reading up on design philosophy, what Magic’s colors are about, and how cards come into being. There are a lot of questions that this card raises, and a lot of things that need to be edited.
Green doesn’t get first strike, certainly not mono-green.
Why does this card cost five green mana? What does it provide for the limited/constructed environment?
It should be “Fox Warrior.”
The first thing about the flavor text is that there is far too much of it. It’s exposition for exposition’s sake. Fine in a high fantasy short story, but not on a Magic card.
The second thing about the flavor text is that Dust appears to be a white-aligned character through their actions and themes. I don’t feel anything green about them.
Tumblr media
@juggernaut-is-a-metalhead — Devil’s Payment
I’m going easy on card art attribution since, well, it’s Disney and they are indeed evil, but in the future, please attribute it to the show itself and/or the director/copyright holder. So, the card itself. Is it supposed to be a common? Is it an homage to Cruel Bargain and Infernal Contract? This certainly isn’t a common effect, and for one mana, well, I don’t know what to say about this card. In terms of the flavor text, why is everything separated in lines like a poem? It’s way too long to fit into a card with three lines of rules text already. I don’t really understand what it’s even trying to say. The devil asked for the MAN’S youth. What does that has to do with his own? And why is it only sometimes capitalized? I don’t really understand this at all.
Tumblr media
@koth-of-the-hammerpants — Hidden Bombardier
Great name. For the card text, it’s powerful, arguably fine in the right format, but very strong regardless. It also needs to say “It deals 3 damage” instead of just “Deal.” Gotta get past the 90′s, erryone. So now, the flavor text... I kinda get it? I just don’t understand what makes this card a shapeshifter. I don’t understand the world in which shapeshifters exist. This card feels like a Goblin. It’s an interesting kamikaze take, if a little too flowery and on-the-nose. It doesn’t exactly inform me, and it doesn’t exactly excite me.
Tumblr media
@mardu-lesbian — Ballynock Adoptee
I had to look up to make sure that there were dwarfs on Lorwyn, and by golly, you’re right, there are! In RW hybrid in Eventide, anyway. And that brings up to a major story problem. By the introduction of dwarfs, the world has already plunged into Shadowmoor, and the thoughtweft has already been replaced with the mindweft. I’m stealing this from the wiki, so berate me if I’m wrong, but I always got the sense that the kithkin were highly xenophobic regardless of where the Great Aurora was. The jarring question that remains is: how does a non-kithkin creature become part of the thoughtweft/mindweft? It goes against what we know about the Kithkin and the world in general. If there’s a good explanation, I’m all ears, but I’m not convinced at this point in time.
Tumblr media
@mistershinyobject — Phenax’s Messenger
Bonus judge trivia time: I studied Latin in high school and a little in college. From what I can tell about The Callapheia from other cards bearing it’s flavor text, it is meant to evoke classical poetry from Greek and Latin epics. The lines are written four at a time, indented carefully. HERE is a link to all cards with “Callapheia” in the flavor text. The gist is, this card does NOT evoke that. There’s a lot of text, a lot of quotes, a lot of forced story that could have been way punchier if you just had stuff about a snake eating a prophet. I love the card as a limited filler. But yeah, gotta do more research into what it means to have certain aspects on your cards.
Tumblr media
@nicolbolas96 — Unpredictable Betrayal
You know, it’s hard to evoke Nicol Bolas well in flavor text. He’s one of Magic’s major villains, a huge face of many sets, with years behind him. And honestly? You didn’t do a half-bad job in this flavor text. Props! That said, this card is way busted. For one, double strike doesn’t affect fighting at all, so that’s...something. For two, it would need to be three sentences; you did a run-on for that last one. For three, mechanically? This is a two-mana spell that eight times out of ten will absolutely destroy two creatures you don’t control. In limited, that’s insanely powerful. In any format that plays creatures, that’s usually amazingly good. There’s a reason spells like Blood Feud and Clash of Titans cost what they cost. Getting two creatures you don’t control to fight is powerful.
Tumblr media
@nine-effing-hells — Cairn to Athusis
Actually, this card was one of my favorites from the contest. I’m a heavy Gruul player when I’m not playing cruel control, and I think the gist of this card is super interesting. You made it an enchantment artifact AND a shrine, giving flavor there as well to your new world. The only thing I would have changed is erasing that first sentence from your flavor text entirely. The second is so powerful that it stands on its own. It’s poetic without being overwrought, specific to the world and building off of known tropes. Also, it tells us that “orcs are RG in this world” which is a great mechanical touch. Just needed that little bit of trimming.
Tumblr media
@real-aspen-hours — Deflect Consequences
Now this is an interesting card!... What practical use does it have? I’m curious what this has on something like Harmless Offering. I don’t believe that cast triggers will be affected. Maybe it would specifically go against things like “counter target spell you don’t control” or something, but if control changes... I’m uncertain of this card’s applications past the gimmick point. That said, it would be fun to cast a Leveler and have it enter the battlefield under an opponent’s control. I’m not in love with the flavor text. It’s fine. Doesn’t light my world on fire. A touch wordy. But it’s fine. Fits the name and the ability well, so that’s nice.
Tumblr media
@reaperfromtheabyss — Inconquerable Alseid
Besides the fact that “Hope” should be lowercase and separated by a colon, the flavor text is really cool! I don’t like this card much. It’s honestly fine, and it’s an interesting commander card that could lead to some cool consequences, but there’s a reason Undaunted has reminder text. It doesn’t look good floating there by itself. There are some abilities that just need reminder text all the time, and Undaunted is on so few cards that it significantly needs this. I think I was a little too harsh on this card on my first go-around, but I haven’t warmed up to it yet. I think the great flavor could have been used on a simpler, more protective card.
Tumblr media
@scavenger98 — Kadalla the Scornful
I’m 99% sure it should go “First strike, deathtouch, haste.” Order of keywords is weird sometimes. So are creature types. I don’t really understand the world on which an Elf can be Mardu colors. It’s a stretch of the imagination to say the least. The card itself is...fine? I’d honestly make her an uncommon in today’s world. Yeah, she’s powerful, but she’s a 2/1 for three with all different mana symbols. Regarding the flavor, it’s well-worded, but it’s lengthy and doesn’t actually tell us anything about the character or the world. It doesn’t inform the card, and that’s its major misstep. Again, though, good writing.
Tumblr media
@shandylamb — Multani’s Offspring
A fine card, a funny flavor. Just so you know, though, “Saproling” is pretty much only relegated to the token, and this card would probably see print as a plant or fungus. And additionally, as nice as the pun is... What’s this card even trying to say in the story? Multani’s only known child is Muldrotha, and that’s deep lore as-is. As funny as this card might be, it really doesn’t mesh with a Magic feel.
Tumblr media
@starch255 — Unscrupulous Horpske
There are only two things I’m concerned about. Firstly: what about this creature makes it “unscrupulous?” What scruples does it have normally in its species? Secondly, this card is trying to make potato salad canon in the multiverse, and I don’t know if such a travesty would be allowed to happen. Potato salad is an affront to taste, no offense to the horpske.
Literally everything else about this card is a 10/10. I would also encourage you to work on a set symbol. Everyone should!
Tumblr media
@teaxch — Hidden Seers
Interesting. So what timeline is this? Is this supposed to be, like, a return to Tarkir? Cool concept, I think, although I’m not entirely sold. After hearing the shaman’s whispers, why is Surrak’s first instinct to assume that without dragons a human would lead the clan? Wouldn’t the thought of a world without dragons evoke other thoughts and fears first? That’s my main hand-iffy-motion reason. This is also a supremely petty nitpick, probably the pettiest thing I’ve ever said about a card, but if this is the Dragon timeline then wouldn’t the watermark be the Atarka one instead of the Temur one?
Tumblr media
@tmstage — Apostasy
Everything about this card is good...individually. Great name, but what does that have to do with the ability? What is it trying to depict? What does shuffling your library have to do with religious dogma? And the flavor text feels overbearing. Nykita as a character is someone I’d like to know more about, but this card doesn’t tell me much about her. It’s mostly that the mechanics and the flavor don’t mesh in the least, and, well, it’s not a good mechanic. Shuffling is time-consuming, game-prolonging, and has no discernible benefit to the game outside of incredibly niche cards that mostly don’t affect you as the player. And the more I read the flavor text, the less it makes sense. “Allow the world to deform your flawed notions?” It sounds awesome, but what does it mean?

Previously...
In her hand, is a ripped piece of faded blue cloth, with a familiar gray patch sewn into it; smudgy rust-red splotches color the edges like fingerprints.
Wings. Gray wings. Nostalgically familiar, because back in the war, each of the Howling Commandos wore one on their left sleeve, a mirror image tribute to the one painted on Steve’s helmet.
Including Bucky. Who wore one on the left sleeve of his coat.
The left sleeve of his blue coat.
Now, he stares uncomprehendingly at the piece of cloth. “What - “ he starts, but his voice fades. Small shivers are running through her body as she watches him, her face filled with dread. Taking a shaky breath, she whispers.
“There was one other time we met.”
*****
February 1945
The telegram informing her of Bucky’s death, written in Steve Rogers’ messy, cursive scrawl, sits on her kitchen table for a week. Across the creamy white paper are crinkled watermarks and trickles of black ink, where the paper swallowed her teardrops and bled out the sorrow of Steve’s words. One night, in a fit of anger, she tears it to shreds and feeds each piece to the hungry flames licking up the stone wall of her fireplace. There is immediate relief at the words disappearing, but even without their physical presence, the grief always returns.
March 1945
The plush wool feels soft in her hands. A week after his last visit, she saw the bundle in a storefront and bartered two of her old dresses for it; the color was a simple heather gray, but she knew it would look perfect against the deep blue of his coat. Every evening, she would knit until her fingers ached, but in a few weeks, she had a thick wool scarf, one of her old hair ribbons tied around it for a bow. She thought she would keep it as his birthday gift. Now, on what would have been Bucky’s 28th birthday, she wraps it around her neck and crawls into bed. Sleep doesn’t come, but every memory of him arrives like a fresh bullet, punched clean through her chest.
May 1945
Over! The war is over! Relieved cries reverberate through the town when VE Day arrives, children running down streets screaming with excitement, mothers and widows weeping joyously in the streets. Healing will take decades, but with those words, the world begins to plan for what comes next. Life is breathed back into the village and in the crowded town square, she lifts her face to the sunshine and closes her eyes. Fingers the chain around her neck holding the St. Michael medal Bucky gave her for their engagement, and wonders if she will ever be warm again.
July 1945
Wildflowers grow in riotous bursts of yellow and red and purple, filling the space behind her chicken coop with color. Laying amid the blooms, she sits in the baking summer sun, tracing her fingers over the colorful images on the postcards Bucky gave her. She thinks about traveling. About visiting those places, seeing them with new eyes, free from war. When she looks at the Brooklyn postcard, she wonders about visiting his family, but then she sees the crooked hearts he drew on the back, and she knows it would be too much. She puts the cards away.
September 1945
Leaves begin to fall, carpeting the grassy bank near the stream. Going through the motions, she dumps clothes from her basket, dunking them in the gurgling water, scrubbing them clean under crystal clear moonlight. Humming under her breath, she sings to pass the time, but the only words she can find are the ones she sang the first night Bucky found her by the creek and walked her home. We’ll meet again, don’t know where, don’t know when. It hurts too much, so she just stops singing.
October 1945
Soldiers have been returning for weeks. Gaunt and haunted, new men arrive every few days, and do their best to pick up the threads of their old lives. One Saturday morning, she walks through the stalls of the market, examining produce and talking with the vendors. A young soldier steps aside to let her pass, quickly pulling off his hat and smiling. Offering a quiet hello in response, she finishes her shopping and leaves; the soldier jogs after her and nervously asks, could he perhaps walk her home? The earnest look in his eyes is so familiar, it makes her sick. She gently tells him no.
December 1945
Taking a sharp kitchen knife, she goes into the trees and cuts an armful of pine boughs. She spreads them through her house, taking deep breaths of the sharp, piney scent. In the white vase on her table, she tucks them carefully in place and adds a small sprig of holly, the red berries shining brightly. Curled in the armchair beside her fire, she drinks tea and listens to the staticky crackle of Christmas hymns on her new radio. It’s a daily battle, but it happens. Life really does go on.
February 1946
Coming home late one evening, she unlocks her back door and hangs her coat in the hallway. Rubbing chilly hands together, she walks into her kitchen and turns on the light. She skids to a stop. Filling the small space, are two hulking men dressed in black. One steps forward and quickly grabs her arms, while the other plays with a length of rope and smiles at her. “We’ve been looking everywhere for you. Someone wants a word.”
There’s a cursory struggle, but she doesn’t fight hard. She thinks to herself, if they kill her, maybe she’ll see Bucky on the other side.
That thought makes her smile, before the world goes dark.
*****
For the second time in her life, she awakens in a cold cell. Stretching her aching limps, she knows immediately this most certainly isn’t heaven.
Hell has a very specific look to it. One she knows far too intimately by now.
The small cell is clean, containing a lumpy bed and a worn blanket; in the corner is a pitcher of water and a bucket, and high on the wall is a small window letting in slivers of light. Her hands are bound in front of her, rough pieces of rope looped so tight around her wrists, the skin has rubbed itself raw. Blood soaks into the bristly rope fibers, staining it with streaks of black.
Where is she this time?
Leaning back against the wall, she blows out a long breath and there’s a strange satisfaction in her realization.
She just doesn’t care.
*****
Hours or maybe days later, her door creaks open. Outlined in the doorframe, is a tall Hydra guard dressed all in black, a mask over his face, a pair of reflective goggles covering his eyes. When he sees her, the gun in his hands trembles the slightest bit, before it steadies once more.
So, she thinks. Here it comes.
Motioning with the gun, the guard indicates she should stand, but she mutinously stays on the bed. If she has to go, she will be defiant to the end.
Stepping forward, he hesitates briefly, before grasping the rope and jerking her to her feet. Balancing his gun at the back of her neck, he pushes her forward.
Down a long hall they go, moving through a set of wooden doors. With a mute resistance, she refuses to walk, forcing him to physically drag her instead. Finally, he simply picks her up and throws her over his shoulder, stalking down the hallway with a series of breathless grunts.
She kicks him the entire way.
When he arrives at a heavy oak door, he bangs three times and throws it open.
The room is surprising. This is no torture chamber, filled with metal tables and metal chairs and the metallic taste of electricity on her tongue. It is warm and cozy, a roaring fireplace on one wall, armchairs strewn casually around, tall shelves lined with books.
In the middle of the room, stands Colonel Richter, a glass of whiskey in his hand.
“Please, come in,” he says cordially, laughter in his voice. “I’ve been waiting for you.”
The guard dumps her in a sprawling heap and departs. In the flickering firelight, she struggles awkwardly to her feet and readies for battle.
“You again. What do you want? You know I won’t help you,” she snaps, her eyes roaming around the room, searching for threats.
Richter looks amused. Sipping his whiskey, he comes slowly closer until he is only inches from her face.
“First things first. Before, when you stole away in the dead of night - that was a bit rude, don’t you think?”
“Go fuck yourself.”
The quick crack of his backhand sends her stumbling sideways. The heavy ring he wears rips open a fat gash on her cheek and she instantly feels blood begin to ooze.
“Such language for a lady. Did you learn that from him? Let’s try again, shall we? I have a story for you and I’d like you to listen,” he says. “A few months ago, we were working on him and in the middle of one of his delirious rants, I hear something interesting. Can you guess?”
Glaring at him, she remains silent.
“No guesses?” he grins, raising his eyebrows. “Alright then. Through all the screaming and crying, I hear him say your god damn name. Imagine my surprise.”
The first prickles of confused fear skate up her back. “What the hell are you talking about?” she spits out.
“It took some digging, but we managed to trace the path he and that wretched group of assholes from his unit made the last couple years of the war. I sent a few search parties out, and low and behold - here you are.”
Bucky told her once, how he and Captain Rogers parachuted from an airplane. She remembers him laughing about the free-fall, how it made his stomach swoop in a million directions. That feeling of free-falling sweeps over her now, turning her blood to ice.
“What do you mean? Who?”
Richter smiles widely, his eyes gleaming. Grabbing the bloody ropes around her wrists, he yanks her forward and pushes her into the shadowy corner of the room.
“Wait here. I have a surprise for you.”
Outside the door, she hears voices arguing. The scuffle of feet and the sharp bite of an angry voice. Suddenly, the door swings open and four guards enter, dragging a fifth man.
From the dark shadows, she muffles a scream.
Bucky looks exhausted. Dressed in a long-sleeved green shirt and ragged brown pants, he’s thinner than the last time she saw him. Rings of black circle his eyes, the vibrant blue now dull and listless. All his beautiful dark hair has been buzzed short and she can see bloody sores scabbing over along his temples. The left sleeve of his wool shirt is empty, pinned up at his shoulder and his right arm is tucked behind him, a leather strap looped around his wrist and stretched across his chest, keeping his good arm immobile.
“You didn’t tell me it was a party,” he rasps mockingly. “I would’ve put on my fancy clothes.”
One of the guards grabs a fistful of his shirt and drags him closer. “Jesus Christ, I am so fucking sick of your fucking mouth,” he sneers and Bucky shoots him a cocky grin.
“Sweetheart, you’re adorable when you’re mad,” he stage-whispers. In the blink of an eye, the guard draws back his arm and smashes his fist into Bucky’s face. Dropping to his knees, Bucky’s mocking laugh turns into a rattling cough that comes up with a spray of blood and he spits strings of red on the floor. “Like being kissed by your mom,” he says weakly.
Swearing ferociously, the guard moves to kick him, but Richter holds up his hand.
“For god’s sake, every fucking time. You know he does this, why do you let him get to you?”
The guard is visibly furious, but he says nothing. Instead, he grabs Bucky by the back of his shirt, hauling him roughly to his feet. Bucky sways precariously, before he finds his balance. Taking several deep breaths, he fixes his mouth back into that mocking smirk and lifts his chin.
“Evening boys. What the fuck can I do for you today?”
Richter gives him a congenial smile. “We have a visitor tonight. I thought perhaps you’d like to meet her.”
Bucky barks out a hollow laugh. “I sincerely fuckin’ doubt that.”
Richter’s smile grows impossibly larger. “Well, let’s see, shall we?”
Pulling her from the shadows, he throws her forward and she stumbles into the light.
Here’s the thing.
Bucky Barnes is so weak, he can barely stay on his feet. For the last five days, he’s eaten nothing more than a loaf of bread and a pitcher of water. When he walks, he greatly favors his right side, still unbalanced by the loss of his left arm even a year later, and when he speaks, his voice has a perpetually guttural sound, his vocal cords shredded from months of screaming. Sprinkled across his shaved head, are a mess of pink scars where the dull razor blades they used bit cruelly into his scalp.
He looks exactly as one would expect. A prisoner of war.
For weeks, he’s been on the verge of collapse, but the moment he sees her, none of that matters.
Horrified disbelief fills his face and his eyes flick from the tears on her face, to the trickle of blood down her cheek, to the blood-soaked ropes around her wrists.
With a feral howl, he lunges toward her.
Throwing off the shocked guards at his side, he head-butts the man in front of him, sending him flying back. With a well-aimed kick, he knocks the legs from under the fourth guard and the man falls hard, before Bucky levels a savage kick to his head.
Richter laughs delightedly as he watches the show, until Bucky rushes for him. Lifting his gun, he sets it casually against her temple and cocks it. At the click of the hammer, Bucky skids to a stop, his mouth still twisted in a vicious snarl. Sweat dripping down his face, blood dripping from his busted lip, his chest heaves furiously.
“You god damn motherfucking cocksucking piece of shit, you let her go. Let her fuckin’ go, or I’ll fuckin’ gut you.”
“I thought so,” Richter says smugly. “So, our Soldier has something to fight for. How utterly inconvenient.”
“You’re god damn straight I fuckin’ do,” Bucky hisses, staggering under the rush of adrenaline. “Hurt her and I swear to god, I swear to fuckin’ god, I will slit your fuckin’ throat.”
With a dramatic sigh, Richter keeps his eyes on Bucky and bends down to speak in her ear.
“Apparently this one’s special, fights harder than anyone I’ve ever seen. Every time we wipe him, every memory comes back in a couple days. I don’t know what Zola did to him, but his brain fixes it too fast. Basically, he just won't fucking stay down.”
“Fuck no I won’t,” Bucky interrupts.
“See what I mean? You know what happened last time,” Richter says softly, his breath hot in her ear. “I don’t care if he is Zola’s little pet, he’s a wild fucking animal and I’m not above putting him down. So here we are. You fix him or I kill him. Your choice.”
“What the fuck is he talking about,” Bucky asks, looking directly at her now. “What - darlin, what the hell does he mean?”
Looking into his eyes, she thinks about that lovely blue. For the rest of her life, she knows she will see it everywhere. In everything.
Behind him, the guard he head-butted lumbers to his feet and manages to get his forearm locked around Bucky’s neck.
Richter stands behind her, waiting. Against her skin, he presses a light kiss and she shudders at the hideous feel.
“Come now. You love him, don’t you? Do the right thing.”
Clasped in a tight chokehold, she can see Bucky’s face turning red as he splutters for breath.
“No,” she chokes out. “I won’t. I won’t.”
Cruel fingers dig into the back of her neck and he hisses in her ear. “If you say no, I will put him in that chair and fry his fucking brain every single day for the rest of his life and I will make you watch. Even if he heals fast, he still screams like a baby. Trust me on that one.”
Bucky is still fighting, his throat working uselessly as he tries to draw a breath.
Every scenario, every choice, every possibility, flies through her head. Trying desperately to come up with a solution, with a way to save them both, she thinks and thinks and thinks.
And she comes up empty, because the answer is simple.
There is no solution.
There is no solution.
Then what choice does she have?
She remembers the parade of men from before, the sound of their screams as the chair rocked bolts of electricity through them again and again. The thought of Bucky strapped in that chair, his body convulsing as the electric currents wrack his body, as he screams for her to help him - it is inconceivable. She knows what she has to do. She knows.
What choice does she have?
“Yes,” she sobs, her eyes filling with tears. “Fine, yes, I’ll do it, please just - let him go.”
Motioning to the guard, Richter points at the floor. The man releases his death-grip on Bucky’s throat, kicking his feet from under him and Bucky falls hard to his knees. Wrenching herself from Richter’s harsh grip, she rushes to catch him before Bucky’s face hits the floor.
“You have one minute,” Richter warns, fading into the shadows of the dark room. “And then you do it. If you leave anything behind again, I will kill him.”
After everything, here they are. Together.
Kneeling in front of the fireplace, the warm light cocoons them in their own world, one last time.
Bucky rests his head on her shoulder, closing his eyes when she cradles his thin frame against her. In the quiet room, his short, shallow breaths echo raggedly. Carefully, she runs her fingers soothingly up his neck, over the spiky tufts of dark hair and his body wilts in her tight embrace.
Sighing wearily, he picks his head up and touches his forehead to hers. Cupping his face, she brushes her fingers over the scratchy stubble lining his sunken cheeks and he gives her a rueful smile.
“Hey, I’ve been thinking. You okay with a one-armed husband?” he breathes. “Promise I can still love you just as hard.”
Tears streaming down her face, she returns his smile. “I love it. It makes you look dashing.”
“That’s exactly what I said,” he replies, pushing his nose against hers. Precious seconds slip by as they sit in silence, breathing each other in. Both trying their damndest to remember everything about the other, before they lose it all. Finally, she whispers her favorite words in his ear.
“I love you, Bucky.”
He hums contentedly and smiles. “I love you too. Don’t ever forget it, okay? I know I won’t.”
It takes every last drop of willpower for her not break down. Because he will forget. He will forget, and she will make certain that he does.
Rubbing her cheek against his, she presses her lips to the shell of his ear, giving him one more thing that the rest of the world cannot take. Something that is theirs, and theirs alone.
“You’re everything for me, Bucky Barnes. You’re the love of my life,” she murmurs, and he leans his head against her. When he opens his eyes, she finds an endless ocean of sadness pouring from the blue depths and he speaks quickly under his breath.
“Listen to me. Whatever happens, I need you to do something for me, okay?” The desperate urgency in his voice makes her heart skip. “No matter what happens, don’t you dare stay here. I can see it in your face honey, don’t you stay here, stuck in this room inside your head, thinking you could’ve done something different. You understand me?”
Swallowing hard, she tries to answer, but he cuts her off. The words are full of fear, holding a message he needs her to accept. “Please, I’m begging you. When you get out of here, you find a way to go on. Find a way to live.”
Losing him again will break her. That fact is as certain as the sun rising in the east.
There’s no way she can do this again, but in her heart, she knows that’s not what he needs. He needs her to agree, he needs her to try, and if she has to send his mind into a graveyard of buried memories, at least she can do this one thing for him.
She owes their love that much.
“I will,” she says. “I promise, I will.”
“That’s my girl,” he whispers with a tired smile. Staring into his eyes, she does everything she can to memorize the love she finds there, before Bucky gives her a crooked smile and tells her one more secret. “You know what? I don’t regret anything that happened. If I had to do it all over, I wouldn’t change one damn thing. It all led me to you, and I’ll remember every piece of us to the end. Because this kind of love, it never leaves. Right?”
“No, it never leaves,” she echoes. Placing her hands on his cheeks, she kisses him full on the mouth, tasting blood and salt and love, trying with her whole heart to carve even a small bit of herself into his bones.
Breaking the kiss, her heart plummets at the sight of his sweet smile.
Blinking away her tears, she takes a deep breath.
And then she tears her entire world apart.
Surprise fills Bucky’s face when he feels the heat begin to pulse from her hands, when he sees the soft glow of white light from her fingers. Watching her in confusion, his lips part as though he wants to say something, but no words come. Concentrating harder than she ever has before, she gathers everything, all those beautiful memories that make Bucky Barnes the man he has become and she wipes them all away.
All his stories about the Howling Commandos. That spring day he caught a foul ball at a Dodgers game. Steve Rogers’ floppy blond hair shining in the summer sun at Coney Island. The way his mother sang while she baked, and the fairytales he read his sister before bed. How he felt looking in the mirror the first time he put on his uniform, pale and scared to death. Watching a brilliant red sun sinking in the ocean, the day he sailed for England. Every memory he has of her. The thrill of their first kiss and the way she held his arm when he walked her home from church  and the first time they made love and how nervous he felt asking her to marry him.
How god damn much he loves her.
Every colorful memory he owns, she siphons away. Nothing is left behind, because this time, she can take no chances.
The white light burns hotter, so bright Bucky squeezes his eyes closed and still she watches him through it all, until finally, finally, finally -
She lets go.
Bucky slumps unconscious, his chin tucked to his chest. Pressing one final kiss to his forehead, her silent tears splash to the floor. She wants to stay forever, to be there when he opens his eyes, to force herself back into this new life, to make him remember her. To make him remember who they are together.
My god. Oh my god, what has she done.
Before she can say a word, the guards rip him from her arms. Dragging him away, his head lolls to the side and the last thing she sees, before they exit the room, are Bucky’s eyes beginning to flutter open.
“Wait -“ she says, panic filling every last cell in her body, “no, please wait, don’t - please, where are you taking him?”
“He has work to do,” Richter says dismissively.
Sick with heartbreak and drowning in regret, she remains kneeling on the floor, and every last piece of her soul shatters.
*****
Day later, there’s a screech of metal, and her door bangs open.
Richter saunters in, a length of cloth folded over his arm. Behind him, is the Hydra guard who escorted her from her cell last time, his gun cocked and aimed.
Caked in dried mud and an obscene amount of blood, the bright blue of Bucky’s Howlie jacket is nearly unrecognizable. The left arm is mostly torn away, the thick material hanging in ragged strips below the elbow. With a grunt, Richter tears away a piece of fabric at the shoulder and tosses it at her.
“Here. Thought you might want this,” he says coldly.
At her feet, the cloth looks dark and dirty, but in the midst of grimy blue, she sees the gray wings Bucky had sewn into his jacket sleeve. She remembers tracing her fingers over them, asking what they meant. Bucky had grinned, his chest swelling with a bit of pride, before he wove tales for her about the Howling Commandos. He glossed over their missions and focused on the men instead, and she remembers how wonderfully he could tell a story. The small bits of humor he found amid the bleakness of war painted a bright world for her to see.
Now, she picks it up, touching the rusty-red smudges lining the edges of the wings. She looks up at him.
“Why?”
Richter says nothing, but a grim smile pulls at his lips. He draws out the pause, savoring the expectation in her face, before carelessly dropping a bomb.
“Zola lost him during a routine experiment. He coded on the table. Guess we haven’t made our soldiers as durable as we need just yet.”
This bomb, it finishes the job Steve’s telegram began. For the second time, she learns the love of her life is dead and now there is nothing but cold emptiness where her heart used to be.
“We no longer require your services. We have a new machine that should work just fine,” he tilts his head, looking down at her. “But thank you for your help.”
Spinning on his heel, he shoves the remains of the blue coat at the guard still waiting in the doorway.
“Burn it,” he orders. “And leave her here to rot.”
The door bangs shut and the lock clicks with a sickening finality.
*****
No food. No water.
For two days, she hears footsteps marching back and forth in front of her door. Something seems to be happening, but through it all, no one pays attention to the woman locked in the cell at the end of the hall, waiting to die.
In her dreams, she sees Bucky strapped to a table exactly like the one they used for her. Was he scared? Did he go willingly or did he fight? Did it happen quickly? Did it hurt? Did he realize what was happening before his heart stopped?
Was there any part of him, maybe buried deep down, that loved her to the end?
She dismisses that last thought. No, of course there wasn’t. She made sure of that fact.
In a strange way, she finds a perverse relief in Bucky’s death. At least this way, he will never know how she betrayed him.
Perhaps if there is an afterlife, someday she can find him there and beg his forgiveness.
On the morning of the third day, sunlight flows through the rectangular window near the ceiling and she waits on her bed. For someone to come. Anyone. To save her. To kill her. Either would work, she’s not picky. Watching the slow crawl of sunlight move across the floor, she counts the minutes, until she notices something peculiar.
Silence.
Sitting up takes a massive effort and rising to her feet almost knocks her out. Knees wobbling dangerously, her sweaty hand presses to the wall for balance, and she stumbles to the door.
“Hello?” she croaks, but it comes as nothing more than a rough whisper. Wrapping her fingers around the bars of the door, she rests her forehead against the cold metal. Summoning her strength, she tries again. “Is anyone there?”
Silence.
No one answers. No lights illuminate the hallway. There is no hum of electricity, no sound of a distant radio playing, no raucous laughter. There is no one there.
So. They left her to die then.
Angry tears fill her eyes, and she bangs a weak fist on the door. Without expecting a solution, she grabs the door handle and rattles it, hot tears spilling over and streaking through the dirt on her cheeks.
But miraculously - the door opens.
Stepping cautiously into the doorway, she scans the hallway and finds nothing. Perplexed, she looks down and her confusion grows. Outside the door, a cloth bundle is propped against the wall. Crouching down, she hesitantly pulls at the loose knot and it falls open, revealing a loaf of bread, a wedge of cheese, two apples, and a cracked leather canteen full of water.
Common sense screams at her to think, but she throws caution to the wind. Grabbing the canteen with trembling fingers, she flips the lid and chugs the cold water. It has a dusty, alkaline taste, but she cries with relief. Tearing off a hunk of bread, she stuffs it in her mouth, her eyes drifting closed at the taste. It hits the hollowness in her belly so fast, she almost retches, but she manages to keep it down.
The rest, she wraps up in the cloth sack and hugs it to her chest.
She walks down the hall. Through a small office, down another hall.
With every step, she expects to be stopped. But nothing happens.
At the end of the hall, is a heavy black door. When she opens it, sunlight spills in and she takes a deep breath of fresh air.
From the outside, the base looks like a series of old buildings, but there is literally nothing else. No people. No vehicles. Nothing but the peppy chirp of birds warbling in the trees. For one brief moment, she stands in the morning light and thinks about giving up. Such a soothing thought.
But then the sound of Bucky’s voice fills her head.
Find a way to live.
The years that follow will be filled with devastating sadness, but beneath it all, she will hold these words close to her heart. She can do this for him.
So, she starts walking.
Down the ruts of the narrow access road leading away from the building, one foot in front of the other. She anticipates bullets hitting her from behind, but nothing happens. On she walks, through a forest of trees, one step after another. Into the open, where the access road joins up with a small country lane. She turns left and keeps going. Five slow miles she traipses along, until a town appears.
On the edge of the main street, she sees a small grocery store and walks inside. Covered in grime, shivering from head to toe, she tries to speak, but instead, she collapses. An older woman looks up from behind the counter, and her curls of thick black hair bounce when she rushes around the front counter shouting in Italian for help.
For two weeks, she stays there recovering, but no one comes.
In that sleepy Italian town, she finally understands.
After everything she has done, after everything they stole from her, after they broke her one last time - it appears that Hydra really was finished with her.
With freedom should come relief, but that is an emotion reserved for saints, not sinners like her. What she has done, she can never undo.
She will live with that fact, from now until the end of her days.

Watermark
I look at my arm, gently rubbing the long scar on my skin, and on the other arm. I still can't feel anything with my middle finger on the left hand, I lost all sensitivity on it when I opened my veins many years ago, damaging a nerve with the sharp knife I used.
When the waiter comes near me, I hide the scars with my very long sleeves as usual and asks for a black coffee with a chocolate muffin. I love chocolate, always have.
Looking out the window I watch the rain fall on it, forming stripes like infinite tears blurring the world. I warmly smiles when the waiter gives me what I ordered and open the book I brought.
Supernatural "Skin"  by Carver Edlund
The book is used but I don't really take care of it, bending it in every ways, sometimes reading in the rain, barely sheltering it... Whatever ; I read all the volumes so many times, it could crumble now, it would still be a fair natural death for it.
           Dean Winchester is alive.
I have to stop thinking about it, and yet, an entire year after hearing this, I still can't deal with this information. He was dead. Again. He was dead and I thought about trying to kill myself again for days... I got out of this life to avoid hearing his name, I travelled the world to run from diners like this one, just to forget about bacon cheese burgers. And years after, I heard it, just like that : Dean Winchester came to Asa Fox funerals.
My broken heart started beating again... and bleeding to. Nightmares stopped but I couldn't sleep. I had to see him. I had to understand.
So there I am, in that crappy diner where the chocolate muffin isn't even made of real chocolate, reading to relax, watching the door. If I'm right, he'll come through that door with his brother and his FBI suit to ask questions, not knowing I already solved the case.
I am about to see his face again, smell him again, hear his voice. I'm about to know if he really forgot about me or if he just doesn't care anymore...
           Fourteen years later.
 *************************
2005
"Agent Cobain" I say showing her my fake badge.
She half smiles, taking it in her hands and looking deeply in my eyes. The bell rings and the hallway is suddenly crawling with loud, horny teenagers.
"I don't think so Agent" she says with a mocking smirk.
"E-excuse me ?" I stammer.
"FBI badges have a light watermark there, and you're too young to be in charge of a murder case by yourself anyway... Agent Cobain, have you seen your car ?" she smiles.
"What the... listen..."
"Plus, I don't think many FBI agents call their daddy to check in. I heard you earlier..."
Her smile gives me the urge to hit her face and to take her in my arms in the same time. Who is this girl ?
"Oh I see, I'm dealing with the little genius of high school" I grunt through my teeth.
She rolls her eyes and sighs. Her smile fades away and she looks behind her before saying lower :
"If you want to unravel this school's secrets, I suggest you ask teachers, not students... Good luck with that."
 ************************
The fourth time the door opens, Dean Winchester comes in.
An older, even more charismatic, stronger, manlier version of the Dean Winchester that once took my virginity.
My heart is missing beats after beats. I prepared for that, and still, this is almost unbearable. I have to carry my broken heart on my opened wrist, and he doesn't even remember I existed for him.
I hate him as much as I love him, but some say it's the same thing right ? Every possible emotion is strangling me, it physically hurts. But I'm far too broken to cry, I have no tears anymore, every single one have been shed a long time ago.
He comes toward me directly, because I'm the only customer apart from the two men eating waffles at the counter and laughing loudly. In an instant, the book is hidden in my big messy bag. I can't stop looking at him, I can't stop remembering.
"Agent Smith" he says with a voice way lower than it was. "Can I ask you a couple of questions ?"
I can't help but smile, looking at the fake badge.
"Do you know how we can tell a badge is authentic ? " I ask with a sad smile.
He looks at me, frowning. I take a sip of my coffee to swallow a piece of my heart stuck in my throat.
"This watermark, just here..." I rub the badge with the tip of my finger, eyes on the picture of him." Is almost impossible to fake."
He stares at me suspiciously for a moment. He is all the same, and yet everything changed. His eyes are darker, his face is still perfectly handsome but he's been through hell, and it shows. It seems like his hair are darker too, and the wrinkles at the corner of his eyes are not just expression lines anymore. Were his shoulders always this broad ? His jaw so strong ? He is a man, and not any man.
"You're not an FBI agent, you're a hunter" I add, taking another sip of coffee.
Dean's eyebrows raise in surprise, and he sits in front of me. That's when I can smell him. I swallows hard, hiding behind my now empty cup.
"Are you a hunter ?" he asks low, looking behind him like someone could understand our conversation.
"Yeah, sometimes."
"How can you be a hunter sometimes ?" he asks with a soft smile, putting his badge back in his pocket.
"Long story... So you're a hunter" I say looking at the Impala through the window.
He still have this car, the guy died like twice at least, but he always drive he's father's car fourteen years later... How I loved that car, how I waited for it to park in front of high school, how I stopped the music and opened the window to hear it come, lazily laying on my bed, how I loved feeling the leather on my sweaty skin, when he was making love to me on the backseat...
"And judging by your nice taste in cars, you must be Dean Winchester" I state trying not to stare at him.
"How do you know ?" he asks with an amused look.
"No long hair, not Sam" I lie.
"Oh you know my brother too ?"
"You are kind of famous, you know. Coffee ?"
 ****************************
2005
"So this is where you live ?" I ask trying not to sound judgmental.
The small trailer is parked in the middle of nowhere, a folding chair and a small table in front of it.
"Yep" she says with that singing voice of her, opening the door. "Must be very different from your house."
"Not that much" I mutter, thinking about the crappy motel I'm staying at. At least this place seems clean and quiet.
She disappears inside and comes back holding two fresh beers. The late sun is making her frown while she sits on the step before her door, handing me one of the beers.
"Are you even allowed to drink ?" I ask, already knowing she's not the kind of girl to follow the rules, she's way too smart for that.
"Do you really care ? You're nor even a real cop !"
When the night falls, we're still talking. She told me about that missing teacher and what she found about him, all by herself. She doesn't even know about the supernatural but she still closer to solve the case than local police. This girl is really smart...
"What I don't understand is how could mister Johnson avenge himself being dead" she says handing me another beer. "Or maybe he had it all planned... Still, it doesn't make sense."
For me it makes perfect sense, and she just almost solved the case.
"So where are your parents ?" I dare, looking around.
"Hum... I'm alone, I'm an emancipated minor. But hey, not for long, I'll be eighteen in two months. Freedom !"
My heart sank at the idea of her being alone. I don't see the trailer the way I saw it minutes ago. It seems sad, isolated.
"I'm sorry" I say looking down.
"Don't be. I fought for that. Anything but foster home or orphanage, for me it was hell..."
"I mean, for your parents..."
"Hum. Yeah" she shrugs.
She look at me in the eye and smile widely. She stands and go inside, then brings other beers, handing it to me. That's when I notice her cheek are a little pink, like she was just a little drunk or awkward.
"I told you everything, you interrogated me four times in a week, and you're nor even a real cop. I think it's my turn to ask questions !" she says, giving a light kick on the chair I'm sitting on.
How can I tell her I just wanted to see her a little more ? I really feel like we could be friends, she remind me of Sam so much, and I miss him like hell. I'm just so lonely.
"Who are you Dean ? Are you some kind of secret hero ? Like Batman ? Or are you a serial killer trying to seduce me ? How can somebody using fake credit cart to pay a simple donut can have a car that beautiful ?"
"Wow wow !" I raise my hands. "Fake credit carts now ?"
"I've been in the street, Dean"
How can she see so clearly through me and not be afraid ? I mean, anybody would be suspicious. I sigh and look at the Impala parked beside her old wreck, all shiny and proud.
"Maybe you're the serial killer" I say with the more charming smile I have in me. "Maybe you'll kill me and take my car."
She laughs and stands, taking her oversized hoodie off, leaving her in a black Nirvana tank top. I wasn't expecting that, a babe body underneath the "fuck you" look.
"Agent Cobain would never have worked on you" I say forcing myself to look away from her chest.
"Never !" she laughs. "It's dark."
She disappears inside again and I wonder why I am still here, but I guess I just don't want to go back to the motel and watch crappy TV ; what's wrong with making friends ?
Suddenly, a myriad of colored light bulb come to life everywhere near us, like little shy stars. And I can't help but smile like a child at the beauty of it. When she comes back, she hands me pizza with that already familiar smile and only then I realize I'm just a little drunk, and I want this evening to last all my life.
 ******************************
Dean takes the monster's head off with a sharp swing of his machete but the thing keeps on moving and another grabs him from behind, trying to bite him. I shoot three times in his head, making Dean close his eyes tightly like I would miss him and shoot him instead... It won't happen, I learn with the best.
This of course doesn't kill it but the impact free Dean.
"How do we kill those fuckers !" he groans seeing too other zombie-ish monsters coming toward us.
Sun. Only sun can burn those creatures, I know it as I already discovered what they are. But I can't just tell Dean, and night is still young. The only way would be to cut their legs to keep them immobile, drag them outside and wait for morning.
When one of them takes my head and smash it on the wall, Dean screams my name but I fall on my knee, dizzy and unfocused for a moment. He can't come to me, already fighting two of them, he calls my name but I don't answer. I've seen much worse and I'm a lonely hunter, I can handle myself, he'll learn to trust me. When the creature bends on me to lift me, thinking I'm stunned, I shoot his face at point blank range. He stumbles back and I start shooting his knees, I shoot it so many times his legs almost detach from his body. And I have no bullets anymore.
"At least it can't move anymore !" I laugh, knowing I must look like a psycho.
Then I come to Dean, still struggling with the overly strong creatures and take the machete he's dropped to cut his attackers in half one by one.
"Fuck, you're daunting !" Dean says scattering the other zombies until we're surrounded by moving pieces of monsters.
"What do we do now ?" I say already knowing the answer.
"Let me call my brother, let me call Sam."
Sammy... I only seen him once, on one of the best days of my life. I remember talking to him on that cafeteria, dazzled by the southern sun through the window, his eyes wandering on the purple hickey his brother made on my throat, far from knowing Dean did it, and that his brother was waiting for me outside. I was so thrilled to meet him after my lover talked so much about him, after he trusted me enough to let me convince him to drive us all the way to Stanford, to check on his baby brother.
Maybe Sam will remember me. Maybe he won't. Maybe he will have forgotten me just because he only spent an afternoon and an evening with me. Maybe he will have forgotten me the way Dean have... Like I never existed.
Feedback is soooo appreciated ;)

In light of reports of stolen creations within our fandom, the question of how our community will handle instances of this going forward has become a concern. We operate with a goal to support, encourage, and unite fans and creators. With that in mind, many fandom entities (including this one) have come to the following conclusion: We have a zero tolerance policy on theft of creative works. That includes plagiarism and theft of art and graphic media. We have put together this message to clarify, to the best of our ability, what those things mean, in a hope to educate and prevent creative theft from occurring.
What constitutes theft of creative works?
PLAGIARISM: The simple definition is "the practice of taking someone else's literary work or ideas and passing them off as one's own." That includes stealing the "language, thoughts, ideas, or expressions" and the representation of them as one's own original work."  There are a few clarifications we can give on this.
If you sample a direct passage from another source, word for word, it would need to be quoted and credited correctly (with the exception of things like common colloquialisms, expressions, cliches, and open source works)
Paraphrasing can also be plagiarism. "There is no time in which you should be altering the words of a source in hopes of making them original." [x]
Plagiarism can occur even without copying or paraphrasing of text. Ideas, concepts, and information can be plagiarized as well.  If it's not common knowledge or if it's a unique idea, give credit for inspiration - that's all it takes. Fiction finds inspiration all the time, especially in a fandom, that's okay! If you love an idea and what to write your  own take on it, all it takes to bypass problems of plagiarism is a simple notation of credit in your notes when you publish.
[Click here for an educational resource on plagiarism]
[Click here for a plagiarism checker, remember that you have to use your best judgement, a score of 0 isn’t expected, see above on commonly used terms etc.]
ART THEFT: Reposting of another person's art, without credit, in many forms is considered theft. Here are some clarifications on this.
If you alter the creator’s art, put it in a graphic, or tag it with your own name (without giving credit to the original artist on your post) that is stealing.
Copying or tracing drawn fanart is stealing. That includes poses, proportions, style, and subject. If you are inspired by another piece and use it to create your own give credit to the original artist for inspiration.
If you find a piece of art on google that you love and you want to put it on your blog, link to the original source if at all possible. If you don't know the origination or who the artist is, you can easily reverse image search through google. On desktop you can right click > search google for image. On mobile you can google "reverse image search" the first link that comes up "https://reverse.photos" allows you to upload a photo and perform the same function. If the art is on tumblr posted by the original artist, REBLOG IT! If it isn't, post the art as a "link" on tumblr instead of uploading it directly (ideally) or post the image, clarify that it is not your work, and link to the original image and give credit to the artist.
If you can't find who originally created the piece of work, or if you don't want to spend time finding them, it is better to appreciate the piece privately and not post it to your blog. If you post it directly to your blog and don't indicate that the art is not yours then it is likely that others will assume that it is.
GRAPHIC MEDIA THEFT: Reposting of another person's graphic edit, manip, gifset, video, etc (without giving credit to the original creator on your post). There are some exceptions.
Everything that applies above about art, is also applicable to graphic media. Graphic media is just digital art in another form - that includes everything listed above. If you find an edit, manip, gifset, video, etc on google, weheartit, pinterest, or the like  – try reverse searching them first. Someone took the time to make these things and it’s often a tumblr user.
“I got it from google” or “Credit to original creator” isn’t giving credit.
The statement that taking a piece of created graphic media is justifiable because the original source media doesn’t belong to them isn’t applicable. We are in a fandom, we are all creating from canon source material. Gifs, fan videos edits, and the like, are transformative work.
If you are feeling particularly uncertain as to whether or not you should repost a creative media piece onto your own blog, you can always ask the creator. Fandom creators would be very touched by the respect you are giving their work.
Some clarification on gifs specifically as it has caused a lot of confusion:
If you use a gif as a "reaction gif" to an ask - that is okay. Largely, gifers don't mind if you use a gif as a reaction.
When reposting the gif (without credit) ask yourself "Am I posting this gif to get  notes/reblogs?" if you are, it's probably safer to not repost it OR to credit the original gif maker. Gifs take a lot of time to make. More than you would ever expect if you hadn't made them yourself.
Never repost an entire gifset or make a post that is a compilation of other people's gifs solely for the intent of re purposing it as a gifset for your own for notes and definitely don't tag them with #riverdaleedit or any other edit tag. Those tags indicate to source blogs that you have created these gifs.
If you find a gif, upload it to photoshop and add some text or a watermark  – you are still stealing. Many gif makers are happy to provide tutorials on how to make gifs! For example: The Bughead Family Discord has a channel which is used to teach and aid others in figuring out how to create! If you want to gif, we are happy to help you do it!
There is a common misconception that if you find a gif on google, it did not come from the ether, 9 times out of 10 it came from a tumblr creator. If you aren’t getting that gif directly from cw or a cast member’s twitter directly and you just found it on google assume it came from a regular person putting their time in for fandom.
All instances of stealing another's work can be avoided by giving credit! Creators of all kind put heart, soul, time, and energy into the work they do. They provide fandom with quality content, free of charge. We love it. It's the blood of fandom. It's the very essence of what fandoms are about and why they even exist. We love something and we create for it, appreciate it, talk about it. Those creators do this for their own joy and share it with us generously. We can give back by doing our best to respect, protect, and encourage that work.

Forte’s Fan Character Flashback Friday - #11
Name: Kaede Hatake Series: Naruto Background: So, this is probably the last Flashback Friday; turns out I'm kinda out of fan characters to really bring back - at least those that I really remember or have images of. But I will be ending this series off with a bang, I guess, cause today we're going to talk about one of my favorite fan characters who has way more development than a fan character really needs, but hey, I enjoy it and it's fun.
Anyway, I've posted stuff for this character before, but have a lot more I can share and have been kind of holding back for this post.
This is Kaede, my long-lived Naruto fan character. As cliche as it is, she supposed to Kakashi's adopted daughter, who of course, also happened to repress her memories of her actual family and birthplace and thanks to the Third Hokage's permission and whatnot, was able to just more or less seamlessly mesh into living in the Hidden Leaf village.
She was created right after I really got into the series, which was back around 2007, which correlates with one of the earlier images I have of her on my dA. You can see that one here, actually: https://www.deviantart.com/forte-girl7/art/Hatake-Kaede-69525304
Fun side note for that, I had done that image all on the free program GIMP and with a mouse and I'm still amazed at my younger self for having the patience to do all the things I used to do with just a mouse. I've been spoiled by my tablet, haha.
Anyway, one reason why I've been so attached to this character is because, like Rey a while ago, I used to RP with this character on a Naruto RP forum. However, this forum was much more active and the person who RPed as Kakashi was super into the idea and we really ran with the different scenarios we could put the two in. I'm actually still friends with that person and we talk about it from time to time and after the forum itself had gone under, still wrote fanfiction things together, just for funsies.
There's another reason why I got attached to the character and it's kind of a weird, personal, psychological reason, but could really be applied to a lot of my fan characters. As you may have noticed over the course of this series, a lot of my fan characters are either a character's daughter or younger sister. I never did the love interest thing; it wasn't and still isn't a thing that I was into. Not sure why, really, but not my thing.
The gravitation to having characters with older brothers or I suppose "idealized" father figures, however, I can totally explain. The brother thing is simple: I've always wanted an older brother, but as the eldest of the family, that was never going to be a thing. So, I guess I tried to find some kind of surrogate relationship with my fan characters. The same can be said with the father thing, too, but I do still have my dad around and while he isn't the worst dad, I guess he could have always been better. I don't want to paint my dad in a bad light, but he's always been a bit overbearing and had a lot of expectations for me that he pushed so much, I'm sure it didn't help with how my mental state's progressed through the years. Really, it's still a thing I deal with to this day and the more I think about it, the more I understand my younger self's need for "better" father figures to attach myself to.
Kaede was definitely one of those characters, and with someone like my old RP friend fanning the flames, it was hard not to get attached to a source of escapism that I really craved and needed at the time. That and having a set up like that and also have a friend who funnily enough cosplayed as Kakashi at one point saying "she should be canon", well, that's how you make a 14/15 year old's day, haha.
Anyway, I do have a lot of older art for this character (plus a lot of newer stuff), that I'll put next. I'll try and put them in chronological order, starting with some of the older stuff I have.
Old Drawing 1
Old Drawing 2
Old Drawing 3
Old Drawing 4
Old Drawing 5
Old Drawing 6
She's had a few different outfits over the years, though I do have a lot more stuff of her in more random outfits not really connected to her "actual" design. You can tell I was going through that "young weeaboo" phase looking at them, cause there are some of her as kitsune, some of her and Kakashi transformed into dogs, lots of them with bad fashion sense, and even here, she used to have a giant, paper fan as a weapon, cause "they have those in anime". And yes, I know, Temari has a giant fan, but her's is actually like.. a bamboo folding one, while the one here is obviously just a silly paper one that again, you would see in anime as a gag item.
Also, a few notes about some of her outfit inspirations: her earliest outfit looked way too much like Sasuke's, which I wanted to stray away from, but was hard considering I insisted on keeping her color palette the blue/tan mix.
One reason for wanting to stray from that is because of Kaede's odd stance when it comes to Sasuke. Personally, he's not my favorite, but Kaede herself is at odds with him, because of Kakashi's focus on training Sasuke in the earlier part of the series, mainly because of their mutual connection that is the Sharingan. Kaede has a slight inferiority complex when it comes to this relationship and is a major source for her lack of self confidence in her abilities.
Also, one of the later designs is an obvious rip-off of Kakashi's outfit from the Gaiden storyline (the bit where he actually gets his Sharingan). I liked elements from it, but again, would go on to tweak it so it wasn't just stealing from another character. Of course, if you look at the designs (and naming conventions) for a lot of the characters that are related... well, sometimes it seems like they didn't try much harder, hahaha.
And as another note, the reason why some of these images have the dA watermark on it was because I got these from my storage on there and they had those enabled. For the next few, which aren't in storage, I'll just link to the actual dA posts. These are still fairly old at this point, cause I haven't posted a lot of the newer stuff on there or anywhere yet, cause I've been... just going crazy on making new stuff and not posting it.
https://www.deviantart.com/forte-girl7/art/Daddy-s-Girl-126086387
https://www.deviantart.com/forte-girl7/art/Naruto-Kaede-326539607
Those two are from 2009 and 2012, while the ones earlier were posted in 2007ish. Also, the age progression there is pretty similar to the current one, though in the most recent, her older outfit reflects the changes to the general Konoha shinobi found in Boruto.
Now, this is just all visual development for the character. When I say a lot, I mean, a lot, cause there's also a written development to go with this. Granted, a lot of it is more recent, but that's because of me being weird.
Some of the posts there on dA do have the startings of a character profile, but they always say "I'll post most later" or "I'm still working on her profile" or whatever and that never came to light. That's mainly because, as I've mentioned before, I'm oddly pick about how plausible my characters may be in the canon universe. Kaede is no exception and may be the one that really sparked how particular I am about it.
I've been meaning for the longest of times to actually write a fanfiction that more or less adds Kaede to the story, though through research/rethinking, I would now add events not directly connected to the manga/anime, which would be needed either way, cause it's not like I was gonna shove her in the background of every actual scene from Naruto's story. However, because Naruto was still ongoing when I got into the series, I decided to bide my time and wait until it ended and how things unfolded.
While now that it's ended, that means I can comb through everything and actually make sure everything's covered, but it was quite an thing to tough through, considering some of the things that happened in the later chapters of the manga. I don't want to spoil anything for anyone really, but the series is pretty old now at this point and into their next series anyway, and some of the stuff that they pull off and hope you accept in the end game of Naruto is a bit much and trust me, you do not want to get me started on THAT topic, hahaha.
Anyway, now I'll be sharing some of the stuff I've been working on the last bit of time to actually maybe see that long-form fanfiction come to fruition. Please note that a lot of them are still a work in progress, but they have come a long ways since those earlier profile/backstory promises. It turns out that sitting down and combing through stuff, even after the fact, is a lot of work and very time consuming, because again, there's a lot of baloney that Naruto really hopes you'd be fine with, when sometimes they themselves don't stay the most consistent, especially when it comes to their actual time line.
I'm trying really hard not to go on a rant here... so let's move on the links and I'll explain them one by one if needed.
Profile Here's Kaede's current overall profile. It includes the general things on a profile sheet, like name, appearance, personality, backstory, and the likes. This also covers the same parameters for Kaede through the year, because I want to be thorough cause I'm weird like that. I also have little skill charts that use the same ranking system found in the Naruto Character Guidebooks, because I guess I like to waste time, hahaha. The backstory part of this is also kind of serving as a rough draft/abridged version for certain story events I'd like to write out, so sorry if they read... weird.
Relationships This document goes into more detail of Kaede's relationships to other characters. Kakashi's isn't full filled out yet, though it should probably be one of the longest ones, but I've been focusing on other characters, mainly her extended family, that I've been adding to bolster her backstory. There are line breaks between certain groups of characters, and the order after Kakashi should be Kaede's actual parents, her extended family (mainly a lot of her mother's relatives), Kaede's teammate and sensei, Naruto and the others of Team 7/Kakashi, and then other characters from the show.
Supporting Profiles Now, because I'm making up a whole gang of extra characters for my silly little OC, that means they also need profiles for a bit more fleshing out of their own, so that's this document, cause I just don't know how to stop myself sometimes. These again follow an order in their appearance, going from her biological parents to extended family, then teammates, followed up by teammates/colleagues of her biological father.
Technique/Skill List Pretty self explanatory. There are technically two versions of this list, where the other is really just a list. This one is the spreadsheet that covers other parameters of the various techniques/skills/jutsu/whatever and where I keep other notes.
Timeline This one is pretty much the biggest pain the neck for me, because again, it's taking time to cross reference the canon timelines that sometimes muddle themselves up anyway and can be annoying, yet amusing to read. This timeline focuses mainly on characters directly involved with Kaede, such as her extended family/what have you, so it's not the same in-depth one that I've been using on the Naruto wiki. Again, I'm trying to put her into the story, but that doesn't mean she's present and/or relevant to everything, cause she wouldn't be, hahaha, though there are some events present that are only there as kind of reminders for what's taking place in the main storyline.
As seen in the supporting profiles doc, all the characters I've come up with have designs, too, or are in the process of getting them and I've posted sketches and finished versions of them on my Patreon, cause those are also still a work in progress. I want to say I'll post them when they're done, but with me, who knows when that'll be, so I'll just some of them here now:
Supporting Character Drawings
Anyway, I think I'm gonna wrap this one up, cause I've blabbed for long enough. I know not a lot was actually covered Kaede-wise here, but that's because a lot of it would just be repeats of the stuff covered in the way-too-many-documents-for-a-fan-character up there.
Also, like I said, this is probably the last Fan Character Flashback Friday, so I want to thank you all for taking this journey with me to the past to revisit some rather fond memories and fun designs.

Type Studio Editor a new editor changing the way how editing works
Tumblr media
Type Studio Editor a new editor changing the way how editing works with awesome features everyone would love
What is Type Studio Editor?
Tumblr media
Type Studio Editor Features Preview Type Studio is a text-based video editor that allows you to edit your video by just editing the transcribed text. You don't need any video editing skills. It's as easy as editing Google Docs. In addition, you can add subtitles to your video with only one click. Type Studio transcribes your video into text. To cut or trim your video all you gotta do is select the part of the text you would like to cut and press the delete key.
Tumblr media
Type Studio Editor panel displaying text edit capability Type Studio Editor Features available Type Studio, a text-based video editor that allows you to easily edit your content-focused videos. The Type Studio started with the frustration of lack in video editing of features for today! A typical video editing experience is counterintuitive when compared to everything within the modern conventions of UI design and functionality. There are so many buttons, dials, knobs, settings, and keyboard shortcuts to remember, that learning how it all works becomes in and of itself an exercise in patience and resolve. For content-focused video editing, you don’t need most of the features offered by most editing software, and the barrier to entry is very steep — you have to own a machine capable of running these programs and know-how all of the functions work.
Tumblr media
Type Studio Editor Showing how to add a headline - Add Subtitles Automatically by writing your own - Automatic Translation to your custom language - Annotate your Video by adding headlines to specific video parts - Video to Article - Add text overlays to mark text or information - Repurpose Video Content to make it more informational
Tumblr media
Type Studio Editor Transcript How Type Studio Editor Stand apart from existing solutions available Existing video editor solutions also providing editing text and annotations but it's a little complex as you need to add text frame by frame, maintain positions, and more. As for a nonprofessional, adding the same is hard to learn. Like if someone just wants to add/edit text, they need to go through multiple tutorials. But type studio has simplified adding text, subtitles, and annotations that too with language support. Another difference is the web availability means you do not need a high-end machine to install and run this. You can access it easily by just opening your web browser and start editing. It is as simple as opening a social media and editing your status update. With Type Studio you don't edit your video in a timeline like a classic video editor. It is all text-based! This allows you to edit a video without having any prior editing skills. It’s as easy as using Google Docs. Type Studio explained in three simple steps: Step 1: Load your video into Type Studio. We transcribe your spoken words into text. Step 2: Edit the video by easily editing the text. Step 3: When you are done and everything fits together, we do all the heavy lifting and render your video in the cloud.
Tumblr media
Type Script Studio As the text is also transcribed anyway, you can automatically add subtitles with just one click. If the speech recognition is not 100% accurate, you can easily correct the text in the editor interface. Being students ourselves, we know that not everybody is able to pay for every software they use, which is why our goal is always to offer a fully functional free version (without watermarks and all that crap). At the same time, we have to keep the lights on and that’s why we’ve decided to add a monthly upload limit. If you don't have a video of your own available to edit right now, they have put together a sample video in the editor for anyone to use. Go and check it out! How it helps the content Creators like Youtubers and Gamers Like me or let say newcomers who are camera shy, or do not want to give their voices. Those who gave voices but make some mistakes in between or miss something, sometimes can not record the video again. So, for all these, Type Studio is one solution that simply helps - fixing wrong words - Adding headings to game videos - generating a transcript, which you can use to write and share as a blog - transcript as subtitles for uploading captions to video - saves your hours of recording and creating videos again Final Words So, we mentioned all the cool features of Type Studio and how amazing it is. I am sure, you all must be willing to use this as soon as possible. So, i will not stop you, just go and try the app for yourself. Feel free to share your views in the comments below about what you think. Also, feel free to share, what you would love to do with this or where you would use this. Thanks for reading, and please do share as sharing is caring. Keep visiting back for more updates coming. Read the full article

My Stalker - My best friend - 0137 Part One: Introduction: 37, 73, 137 and Qabalah
SEPTEMBER 29, 2014 BY JAKOB THELEN
ciphers names of godCiphers and Cryptography: A Very Brief Foundation
The use of ciphers and subtle allusions in mysticism, philosophy, literature and religion, though generally ignored or unknown in modernity (by and large), are indeed well-established practices (such as the three literary practices in Qabalah, all of which involve some form of cryptography: transpositioning; substitution; skip-codes; re-arrangements of text into columns, as with the 72 Names of God; interpretation as number; etc).
“Ciphers are hidden in the most subtle manner: they may be concealed in the watermark of the paper upon which a book is printed…bound into the covers of ancient books…hidden under imperfect pagination; they may be extracted from the first letters of words or the first words of sentences; they may be artfully concealed in mathematical equations or in apparently unintelligible characters…they may be word ciphers, letter ciphers…they may be discovered in the elaborately illuminated initial letters of early books or they may be revealed by a process of counting words or letters.” – Manly Palmer Hall, The Secret Teachings of All Ages, p. 491.
Repetitions
Some of the more observant readers may have noticed in various books, films, TV shows and the like, a profound repetition of three distinct numbers: 37, 73 and 137. I offer the following examples:
Literature and Poetry: 1308-1870
Dante Alighieri’s Inferno (c. 1308-1321 AD): The 7th realm contains 3 spheres (this could be an allusion to the harmonic ratio 7:3) Jules Verne’s Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under The Sea (1870): 37 and 73 are referenced no less than 7 times throughout (as is the Golden Section, no less than four times). For example: “Now, had it not been for the exceptional strength of the Moravian’s hull, she would have been shattered by the shock of collision and have gone down with all hands, plus the two hundred and thirty-seven passengers she was bringing home to Canada.” p. 16(It may be worth noting that the name Moravian could be read as the French “Mort a vient,” a grammatically flawed phrase yielding roughly “Death has come.” Jules Verne was French.) “In a smooth sea, with a favorable breeze, on the 13th of April, 1867, the Scotia, of the Cunard Company‘s line, was in 15º 12’ longitude and 45º 37′ latitude.” pp. 16-17 “It came, therefore, to $337,500…” p. 83 “About eleven o’clock in the morning the Tropic of Capricorn was crossed on the 37th meridian, and we sighted Cape Frio standing out to sea.”These are only in one book! Surely these numbers could not have been chosen at random, Jules Verne was a very intelligent, meticulous author that dedicated great effort to his work. Verne was almost undoubtedly initiated – as revealed by his novels, the two most obvious being The Green Ray and Robur the Conqueror (R.C., Rosae-Crucis). The company he kept also establish this connection quite conclusively (refer for example to Hetzel). Aside from these, examine his tombstone closely and you will see a definitively occult sculpture, showing him emerging from the grave with arm extended (not unlike Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam) shrugging off the veil of the material in aspiration. All quotes here given were taken from the Readers Digest edition (in English). Film and Media: 1984-2012
Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop III (1994): In the beginning it reads “Tuesday, 1:37 AM.” The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon asks, “What is the best number? -By the way, there’s only one correct answer…The best number is 73…it is the 21st prime number. It’s mirror 37 is the 12th…” Significantly, this appears in episode 73: The Alien Parasite Hypothesis (S.4 e.10). Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing: Tim’s boss says: “…on page 37 of Tzun Tzu’s The Art of War…” 21 Jump Street (2012): The police officer mistakenly says near the beginning: “37 Jump Street. 22 Jump Street (2014):During the football game a player on the sidelines is wearing jersey #37 (approx. 1hr in, center-background).There are countless other examples, but these few should serve to illustrate the on-going obsession. Though some of these are more subtle than others, all are intentional. What makes these numbers so special? What are all of these directors, producers, actors, writers and poets -spanning over 600 years- pointing to? Creation

Gematria: Wisdom in Number
Gematria is a Qabalistic practice that involves assigning particular numerical values to certain letters. It is one of the three literary Qabalistic practices, the other two being Notarikon and Temurah. It is most commonly seen in Hebrew or Greek, though there is substantial evidence both Arabic and Sanskrit have been similarly employed. In fact, the Vedic Katapayadi System proves without doubt that our current chronology for the discovery of pi is wrong (more later). Many attempt to apply similar cryptographic techniques – i.e. Qabalistic permutations – to languages of the Latin alphabet such as English, albeit with little success. There are two systems most commonly employed: The Ordinal, which is simply the placement value of each letter (1-22); and The Standard, in which the 11th letter becomes 20 and the 21st becomes 300 (1-400). Typically, in Hebrew, Greek and Arabic gematria the latter system is used, while in Mayalana and Sanskrit katapayadi the former is most commonly seen.
(An easy way to remember the Standard Gematria values is to simply add the two numbers and put a zero on the end. For instance, Mem is the 13th Hebrew letter and it has a standard value of 40 [1+3=4, add a zero=40]. If it is 10s, add one zero; if it is 20s, add two [Tau=22, 2+2=4, add 2 zeros=400]. For
those who may have difficulty, this ‘rule’ works invariably for Hebrew.)
Before we continue, I feel that a comprehensive chart of the Hebrew alephbeit will help (we will only be focusing on Hebrew for now). The esoteric meaning is bracketed, while the literal is written plainly: (Ordinal) (Standard) PALEO-HEBREW CELESTIAL YETZIRATIC

*Note: The English letters are meant to convey the pronunciation. The seemingly random arrangement of attributions (i.e. Simple, Double, Mother) is only apparent: when sorted according to the Sepher Yetzirah, or Book of Formation, the Elements emerge in the Three Mothers; the Planets in the Seven Doubles; and the Zodiac in the Twelve Simple or perhaps inappropriately named ‘Elemental’ letters. This arrangement was allegedly designed with the intent of mirroring the occurrence of God in Genesis: “God Made” 3 times, “God Saw” 7 times, and “God -” 12 times; “God said” 10 times, reflected in the 10 Sephiroth or Emanations of the Tree of Life.
(See: Adele Nozedar’s The Illustrated Signs and Symbols Sourcebook, Frater Achad’s Q.B.L., and the Sepher Yetzirah for sources of these symbolic attributions.)
The word Chokmah, meaning Wisdom, has two values – one according to each of the systems mentioned above. It has an ordinal value of 37(ח כ מ ה = Cheit8 + Kaph11 + Mem13 +Hé5 = 37) and a standard value of 73 (8+20+40+5=73). The latter is “the best number” according to Chuck Lorre, while the former is a religious and literary favourite.
Threes and Sevens Everywhere According to the gospel accounts, Jesus Christ performed exactly 37 miracles in his lifetime. The average pregnancy lasts between 37 and 42 weeks (42 being “The answer to life, the universe, and everything in it” to Hitchiker’s fans), and 37º Celsius is the normal human body temperature. The name Elohim (Heb. Lord, Ruler, God, Power[s]) appears for the 37th time in Genesis 3:3:
“But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.”
To re-appropriate Revelation 13:18, “Here is wisdom.” How elegant that the verse containing the 37th occurrence of Elohim should be one with that which forbids man from eating the Fruit of Death! – This is indeed wise advice, as will be seen in a much later part (Part V).
Mathematically, 3 and 7 are the only two dimensions in which binary problems (i.e. defining vector products) may be solved. This in itself makes them incredibly useful numbers. 37 is the 12th prime number, while 73 is the 21st; 37 is the 3rd star number, while 73 is the 4th.
For those unaware, numbers are inherently capable of representing geometric forms: for example, 3, composed of 3 individual units [called counters] creates a triangle. 3 is technically the second [1+2=3], while 6 is the third [1+2+3=6] and 10 is the fourth [1+2+3+4=10]. The latter forms the Pythagorean Tetractys. There are squares, cubes, stars, indeed all manner of shapes, typically referred to as figurate numbers.)
If we add the star placement values of 37 and 73 (3+4=7), as well as their two prime-number placement values (12+21=33), we obtain the Days of Creation and the traditional lifespan of it’s Redeemer (many Christian traditions claim that this was the age of Christ at death, though Luke 3:23 states that he was “about 30”).
7 and 33
The Days of Creation and the age of Christ -derived from Chokmah- offer much wisdom. For one, 33-7=26, the gematria of Yahweh ( י ה ו ה = Yod10 + Hé5 + Vau6 + Hé5 = 26). Our modern week is exactly 7 days, and it takes exactly 33 years for the sun to rise a second time in the same spot over the Earth (this is the lifecycle of the Solar Man, partial key to 33 and its relevance to the so-called World Mystery – as Manly Hall puts it). There were 7 Classical Planets. The visible-light spectrum consists of precisely 7 colours (of which 3 are primary), the modern musical scale consists of 7 notes (do re mi fa so la ti; the second ‘do’ is the first octave [from Lat. Octavus, eighth], or double the first note), while there are 7 modes used in Western music (Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. Interestingly, in Carnatic or South Indian Classical Music, there are 72!). The frequency of 1:1, aka Unison or the C-note = 33 on a Harmonograph, and perhaps most importantly: the human head has 7 orifices and the human spinal cord has 33 discs (24 upper, 5 to the sacrum and 4 to the coccyx). These latter two are reflected in the Macrocosm of the ancients, the 7 Planets and the 33-Year Solar Journey. This surely would have been seen as profoundly significant. Shockingly, the ratio of Moon:Earth = 3:11. The median of these two numbers is 7, and their multiplied sum is 33 (it is quite likely that the ancients were aware of this ratio, as will be demonstrated in a much later segment).
There are 7 Chakras (from Sanskrit, meaning “wheel”), now believed to be the 7 major endocrine glands (there are also the parathyroid, hypothalamus and gastrointestinal tract -yielding a true total of 10-11, that are not considered part of the “major” endocrine glands). Surely a great many Vedic and Tantric sages would scoff at the notion that the whirling vortices of latent energy are material in nature; in many cases the body is used as an analogy to something non-material, as a Sacred Map of the ethereal realm. In any case their knowledge of human anatomy is certainly rather impressive.
(The Egyptians were similarly well-educated, performing incredibly daunting surgeries with tools still in use today. Herodotus and many other Greek historians have claimed that their knowledge was derived from that of Egypt, and there has been much speculation that the knowledge of Pythagoras was in fact Indian in origin. Take for example this quote from a 1775 letter written by Voltaire: “I am convinced that everything has come down to us from the banks of the Ganga – Astronomy, Astrology, Spiritualism, etc.. It is very important to note that some 2,500 years ago at the least Pythagoras went from Samos to the Ganga to learn Geometry.” The former half of this statement is at least partially verified by Hadith Al-Halila – also referred to as the Islamic Tradition of the Myrobalan Fruit, or more recently, The Confutation of Atheism. In this text a Muslim preacher discourses with an Indian atheist physician, who describes that his people discovered and continue to practice Astrology – a science that is apparently unknown to the Imam. It is also known that Pythagoras had gone to Alexandria, but it is worth pointing out that the so-called ‘Pythagorean Theorem’ is seen in Baudhayana’s Shulba Sutra, a Vedic mathematical text that predates him by some two centuries.)
Note that the Kundalini Serpent resting in 3&1/2 coils in Muladhara (base), when awakened, traverses the 7 chakras along the 3 nadis: to the right, ida; the left, pingala; in the center lies Sushumna – Path of the Serpent of Awakening. Following a materialist line of thought, both ida and pingala may correspond to the spinal nerves that appear on each side (this would make Sushumna – the Serpent’s Path – the 33-disc spine in between). Here we see a Serpent traveling 33 discs along 3 nadis through 7 chakras.
In verse 2 of the Vedic Asya Vamasya (Riddle of the Sacrifice, Rig Veda 1.164), we read:
“Seven yoke the one-wheeled chariot drawn by one horse with seven names. All these creatures rest on the ageless and unstoppable wheel with three naves.”
The sum of all numbers in this verse equal 19, the number upon which both the Egyptian and the Mayan peoples based their mathematics (both used grids of 18:19; 18+19=37).
Given the omnipresence of 37 in so many religions (Jewish, Christian, Vedic), it should come as no surprise that, in the Buddhist Sambara-Mandala, we see exactly 37 goddesses – each being a personification of a particular characteristic or accessory to Enlightenment.

How to draw 3/4 view of a face!
or at least how i do it… ^^; this is for @dreamymilkshake but i hope others find it useful!
First thing first is choose who you want to draw, because not all characters have the same shaped face.
Example:
Tumblr media
(Sorry for the giant image ^^; )
now that i think about, Characters like Ferb are almost always seen from a ¾ view. but for the sake of this Tutorial i will be choosing Yuri from Arc V. he has the typical anime egg/oval shape of head.
Tumblr media
First, lightly draw an oval shape. you don’t want these lines to show up later, so if you draw them lightly, they will be less noticeable. If your on the computer then, on one layer, use a light/bright Blue (or any color not black) instead. Here, i am using a None-Photo blue pencil.
Next come the lines! The vertical line represents the middle of the face and what direction Yuri is facing, so curve it in the direction you want him to face.
Next is the horizontal line. this line will indicate where his eyes are and whether or not he’s facing up, down, or even straight ahead (Of himself). so curve that line in the direction (altitude?) you want him to face.
Tumblr media
Next, i add “marks” where his face is. Little vertical lines for his eyes, the little slanted line for his nose, and a curve for his mouth.
Something to keep in mind is that vertical line. remember it’s the middle of his face. the middle of his noes and mouth should be on it. Admittedly i’m a little off but that’s okay! we can fix that later!
One more thing to keep in mind is that anime noses are a bit weird. Depending on the style they can be realistic or… not. this one is not. This little line represents the right side of his nose, so the middle of it is invisible. therefore this “Nose” should be just off the line. (although his mouth is off here.)
Next is to draw the outline of his face, neck, and ear. Don’t worry about being perfect, we can always fix this later. Also, draw a sideways/slanted oval on top of his head. This will help determine where the back of his head is and where the back of the neck starts. (look to above photo for reference please)
Now, my style is a bit cartoony, so the necks i draw are just a tiny, weeny, bit smaller then they should be, but that’s okay because it’s my style and i make it “Look” right.
If you have a very “Stylized” style, that’s okay. As long as you can make the anatomy proportional to itself and make it look right then your golden.
Example:
Tumblr media
(Gah! Big image is big!)
when you stop and look at these boys… there are so many actual anatomy mistakes, it’s not funny… but we don’t really notice that, right? That’s because this is a “Style” and the characters anatomy is proportional to itself.
(Okay, getting back on track)
Tumblr media
Next, we start adding details! Now if your on the computer i say go ahead and make another layer for this step. Layers are your friends, use and abuse them! Also, at this point i should mention ALWAYS HAVE REFERENCE PHOTOS UP WHEN YOUR DRAWING A CHARACTER! ( i should have said this earlier, sorry v-v )
Yuri here has very unique eyebrows. (Pfft!) His eyes, while the same as the other Dragon Boys, are different then other characters such at Yuzu or Jack. So having a reference photo up will help make sure your drawing his unique features correctly.
Also, things that are further away are smaller then things that are closer. That right eye of his? it’s going to be a tad bit smaller then his left eye. once again don’t worry about mistakes, you’ll be able to fix them in the next step.
Tumblr media
Lastly, we begin the lineart! if you’ve been using a normal pencil then here you would make the lines darker so they stand out more from the fainter lines.
If your using a None-Photo Blue pencil then switch to a normal pencil. I personally use mechanical ones. Also, if your brave enough you can use a pen, just be careful not to smudge or make mistakes. The good thing about pencils is that if you make a mistake you can fix it, just make sure you have a eraser that doesn’t smudge.
If you’re on the computer… MAKE ANOTHER LAYER!! :D and switch to black. Now, you can put all your lineart on one layer or you can put the face on one, the hair on another, and the neck and body on a third. I find the later option more beneficial because there are times when I’ll need to Shrink or enlarge the head or body.
This is a step where you will correct mistakes or make small changes. As you can see i fixed his mouth. Before, it wasn’t centered but now it is. I also added int some dimples and made it more “pointy” to exaggerate his… trollish side.
I also changed his shirt to more match Yuya’s since… well, i’m sure you guys have seen the last episode by now. That’s also why he has the pendent on.
and finally! Your signature and watermark!! I was lazy and didn’t put my watermark on this but i ALWAYS sign my work. And if you can always do both!
This has been DigiAndromeda and i hope this helps anyone who loves to draw! If there’s anything I’ve missed or anything you’d like to add, please do!

How To Create Converting Social Media Graphics Part - III
Do you notice how visual social media has become these days? We are not just talking about the text updates. Everything you now see has an image, video or graphic associated with it. There is a reason why this is trending nowadays. Social Media Graphics has ability to grab attention like nothing else. Study has shown that our brain process visuals about sixty thousand faster than text. Remember the old saying “an image is worth more than a thousand words”. But what can you do when you are not a graphic designer? An average internet user finds it hard and time consuming to design basic images, for others, designing images is simply an impossible task.
The truth is that you need visuals. What should you do then? Should you hire a graphics designer? What if you don’t have enough money to afford it?
Don’t Panic Yet! We may have a solution for you. You are about to see yourself in a completely new world where design is a simple thing to do, it’s free and in some cases painlessly affordable and most importantly, it’s repeatable.
Are you ready to see it? Below is the 5 design hacks which will help you to make your social media content engaging and shareable.
Avoid using text so much
Hey! I know you love text (who doesn’t?). Heck, am even using text now to speak to you. However, one downside of text is that it can get overwhelming very quickly. The aim of using visuals instead of text is to allow shapes, colors and textures do the heavy lifting.
It does not matter whether you are posting to Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest or Google+, don’t use text to crowd out the images.
You can use text to reiterate the title of your blog post. By pinning the graphic to the top of your blog post, you will be able to give your readers a clue that they can be able to share your visuals on their social media pages. It is even more enticing since you have the title on the graphic.
Don’t shy away from adding social share hovers on top of your images either. You can use WordPress Image Hover Lite to do it easily
Make Use of High Quality Stock Images
You should be aware that the quality of graphics you post on social media platforms are a reflection of your brand itself. So what’s the reason for using stock images? We as humans have attractiveness bias – our attention are easily drawn to things that look nice and what is nice than a nicely-shot stock photography to enhance your content?
A good stock photography will not only draw your reader’s attention but it will also boost your brand’s professionalism and credibility. Only few people will trust a brand that does not give attention to the images they use on social media platforms. For most people, using awkward, grainy and cheesy images is a big turn-off, especially when the direct competitor is using stunning stock images.
Don’t overrule the idea of using stock images by thinking they are very expensive. There are a lot of high quality, beautiful stock images for almost every category imaginable you can get as low as .
These images are of high quality and you can use them for commercial purposes and most importantly, you can get them for free.
Now you know, you have no excuse to settle for those unapologetic images that gives your brand a bad name, more importantly, you no reason at all not to use images in our post.
Use a range of visual content
The most powerful way to engage fans on social media is with the use of visual content. However, you fans don’t need to be seeing the same images over and over again. You can solve this problem by creating a variety. Here are four strategies you can use to create varieties:
Quote graphics
Quote graphics enable your fans to easily connect with the message of your brand and not just your product.
People love seeing quote-graphics because they can easily relate to them. It gives them the motivation to share the inspiration with their friends. Try experimenting with strong and bold vs. minimalistic and light so as to create series of quote graphics that will appeal to your fans.
Infographics
Telling a story is one of the most compelling ways to grab the attention of your audience with your brand and infographics allows you to tell a story in a visually captivating way
When creating your own infographics, ensure that you designed it in such a way that it contains facts and figures which are organized in a logical way that the audience won’t have problem noticing. Use appealing colors to communicate directives and also make use of icons to tell your visual story.
Screenshots
Using screenshot to answer customer’s question on your social media page is one way to engage your audience while providing him with helpful service that he will appreciate. Use screenshots to give customers a sneak peek or something that you or your brand is working on. It makes the fan feel important since they think they are getting exclusive information.
You will also have more chances of getting your contents shared when you use screenshots to explain, exemplify or demonstrate something to your consumers. Visuals make it easier and very quick to understand contents.
Photography
Put your photography skills on display. It does not matter whether you are using Instagram or Twitter; you can make use of your own photos that you snapped to bring people into your world. There are probably millions of apps available in smartphones that you can use to take pictures and share them in a snap.
Photos without any doubt are super shareable. Visit any social media platform; people are constantly sharing millions of photos every day. So when you share one insightful, stunning snapshot that you took, they have huge chances of making rounds.
When creating lots of contents that you want to share on social media, you may probably need to use template in order to make the work easier and quick for you.
Tap into visual trends
Do you doubt that your visual content won’t look cool enough? Here is what I normally do: I take a look at other images shared by people on Pinterest. Pinterest is image sharing site and my favorite place to search for visual trends. It has everything visual, from infographics to quote cards. You can make use of Pinterest to know what type of graphics the audience can resonate with through the number of repins.
No need copying the images verbatim rather find out what exactly what appeals to you about the image and what all the images you like have in common.
Graphics can be impactful without being complicated. Keep it simple, it makes more sense that way. Make sure to remove any elements which are competing with your message on the graphics.
So know what type of visuals that is trending by using image networks like Pinterest to get ideas of trends you can use in creating your own trendy, attention grabbing and very shareable content is short time.
Brand your graphics
The reason for creating super shareable social media visuals is to bring people back to your website. However, it is so unfortunate that some people failed to make their image traceable. It’s bad to find an informative graphic that grabs your attention but you can’t find information that reveals the publisher so that you can know more.
Don’t make this kind of mistake.
Ensure that you always add a watermark to your graphics, no need to make it obnoxious, full color logo sticker. Show off your brand by adding a simple link to your website towards the bottom of your graphic.
Don’t forget to use templates. It doesn’t matter whether you are using infographics, quotes, photographs or other elements; ensure that you use templates to maintain consistency. Your followers can easily identify your work when you are using templates even without adding your name to your work.

Starter's Guide to DIY Musicianship
Are you in a band with recorded music and unsure what to do next?  Remember to treat your band as a business – make a plan, be professional and stay focused.  Here’s a guide to help you get started!
Copyright and release your material:
I have personally used and back CDBaby.  It’s a one-stop shop where you can have your material copyrighted and distributed to all major music purchasing and streaming sites.  Click here for more information on what they do and how it will benefit you.  Listen to their DIY Musician podcast to become a diy musician pro (I’m really just a podcast nerd and this is one of my favorites)!
Create social media sites:
Make Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and YouTube pages.  Create a handle that is or encompasses your band name.  Make sure you provide links that direct your fans to an iTunes, Spotify or Bandcamp page where they can purchase or stream your music.
Get a logo made:
It’s 2017.  There’s no excuse for having an unprofessional looking social media page.  Be sure to get a logo made.  Check out Fiverr to get one made on the low.  For this website and for my band’s logo, I went through user ajenxris.  I’d suggest opting to pay the extra to get the source files, so you can altar the color schemes/sizes to better fit the designs you come up with for your digital content.
Create digital content:
Check out your favorite band’s Instagram, Twitter and Facebook profiles.  Take note of what their posts looked like during their last single/album release.  I don’t know who’s behind A Story Told’s instagram page, but they’re good at content creation and digital marketing.  The posts pertaining to their album release consist of uniform color and font schemes, which correlate with the album cover.  Keep in mind that you’ll want your imagery to reflect the sound of your music.
Canva is super easy to use to create profile pictures, headers and image posts.  You can use their preselected dimensions for the graphic you’re making or input your own (see below).  Upload a version of your logo that has a transparent background to add to your posts.  Either create your content on a solid color/textured background that they provide you with or use royalty-free stock photos (pexels,  unsplash, pixabay).
Twitter Banner – 1500px by 500px
Facebook Cover Photo – 828px by 315px
YouTube Channel Cover Photo – 2560px by 1440px
click this link for an in-depth guide to dimensions for all major social media platforms.
Create lyric videos with iMovie or Windows Movie Maker.  This is something that you can search Fiverr for, but lyric videos aren’t hard to make, and it’s a good skill to have.  Download some stock videos (pexels video) of landscapes, moving textures, bokeh, moving lights, whatever.  If you use Final Cut Pro X, check out Ryan Nangle’s YouTube channel for inspiration, how-tos and some cool effects you can download for cheap or free.  I’d suggest YouTube searching whichever program you’re using, followed by “diy lyric video tutorial,” or something along those lines.  Create teasers or short versions of your lyric videos to post.
Get professional promo and live pictures taken:
Talk to your friends who are in bands and see what photographers they use, and hit one up.  Whatever you do, don’t approach the situation as if you’re doing them a favor by “building their portfolio.“  Even if someone offers to take your pictures for free, throw them $20 or something.  It takes hours between driving to locations, taking the pictures and editing them.  Keep any watermarks on the photos and link your photographer’s instagram/facebook/twitter page (respectively) to show credit.  Make sure your photographer is alright with you cropping and adding logos to any photos to use for promotional reasons (facebook/twitter banners, etc).
Create an EPK:
Keeping with the theme of being professional, take an hour or so to create an electronic press kit, or EPK.  An EPK is a document that best showcases your band that you can send to promoters.
Create a file or webpage specifically for your EPK.  Include a short biography, high-res pictures, links to your website/streamable music/social media accounts. Get some EPK inspo and in-depth explanations of what to include here and here.
Book a show:
Check out some local venues you’d like to play at and find their contact info for the promoter on their website, Facebook page or indieonthemove.  Send them your EPK, and if you have any specific dates you’d like to play.  Once you have a show booked, create some good lookin’ content on Canva to promote your show on your social media sites.  Hustle and sell as many tickets as you’re able to – but be genuine and be careful not to come off like a used car salesman (no offense, used car salesmen).
Showtime:
Practice more than you think you need to, get to the venue at load-in time, thank the promoter, respect the sound guy/girl and high-five the other bands that are playing.
some tips:
Draw lines between songs on your set list where the vocalist is going to speak to the audience so the entire band is on the same page
Use earplugs so you can hear yourself and band a little better.  I like to use Earasers.
Stay for all the bands to finish out their sets! It’s a respect thing.  If you do it for them, they’ll do it for you.  Sneak a granola bar in one of your cases if there’s over 4 bands playing, it’s easy to forget to eat and get hangry in the midst of packing a car, getting to the venue, playing and staying for a bunch of bands.
Look into getting some merch to sell at your shows.  If I am digging an opener on a show, chances are I’ll buy a physical copy of their CD.  Download cards for singles or albums are popular, which you can also get through CDBaby here.
After the show:
Sweet, you made it!  Discuss high and low points of your set with your band and keep looking for ways to make your show better and more engaging for the audience.  Keep on implementing the marketing strategies that worked for you and think of ways you can improve your posts to create more drive to your page and click-throughs to iTunes so you can generate some sales!

June 2017 Boundaries
June 2017
BOUNDARIES
To my family, friends, fans and seekers…
I would like to write about boundaries.
Language is an ever-changing practice. Whether spoken or written, English has been evolving (some would say “devolving”) for centuries. There are a lot of words used today that didn’t exist 50 years ago. Most of these are buzzwords, or turns of phrase, which are now used commonly.
Take the Middle English words, “Hale, and well met!” Today we would say, “How are you doing? Hope you’re well…,” or some similar form of greeting. Hale, and well met has nearly been forgotten.
With the rise of therapy and behavioral expertise, the term boundary has entered the vernacular. It’s not just spoken by those who professionally practice some form of counseling, but the word is being used by nearly everyone.
 What is a boundary?
In family therapy BOUNDARY is a term used liberally and has many applications. It can establish the autonomy of a person from those they come in contact with, like family, coworkers, fellow students, neighbors, lovers and so forth. A boundary can be used to keep a person emotionally safe in a relationship of any kind, or used to define the intricacies of a romantic relationship. And while technically a boundary is meant to establish and maintain a healthy relationship, all too often they are erroneously applied as a barrier of entry for a person on the receiving end of its misapplication.
While I’m sure that most therapists mean well and have an intrinsic love for people (no doubt this love for people caused them to enter the field in the first place), they can’t possibly oversee or govern the installment of the boundaries they recommend to their clients. They can’t even determine the veracity of their client’s testimony in their office. They most often hear a one-sided account. It’s tough to get to the truth that way…
Back to boundaries! The word boundary is spoken so freely in society today, as though people were familiar with them and their proper usage. In looking at a number of therapists’ blogs, it seems clear that boundaries are meant “...to regulate relationships, while maintaining them in a more emotionally healthy way,” but that is seldom the outcome — I have observed.
Please remember as you read this, that I am largely writing to Christians, believers and followers of the Way: the way that Jesus lived by example for us and commanded us to emulate in our own lives. He set the high watermark for doing life, and every idea, word and deed must come under His authority for those who follow Christ.
The question I raise is this: did Jesus set boundaries with people?
Many people today speak of Jesus meek and mild, as He is often depicted in paintings holding a child, surrounded by puffy white sheep, or touching someone lovingly with healing hands. These examples of Jesus are at best insufficient, and at the worst misleading. The following are quotes from Jesus’ own lips, as He addressed some religious control freaks, known as Pharisees –
Matthew 12:34 “Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.”
Matthew 23:33 “Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?”
John 8:44 “You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.”
Matthew 23:27   “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness.”
Jesus meek and mild? I think not…
His response was always perfectly measured and applied to the situation that He faced. When He spoke to someone who was unloved and maltreated by society, He spoke affirming words. When He spoke to someone in need of forgiveness, He spoke reassuring words. But when He spoke to religious hypocrites, His tone was decidedly confrontational.
But one thing He never did, was deny someone access to Him in the name of a boundary.
Everyone was welcomed, whether or not they were in agreement with Him, meant Him good or evil, wanted to do for Him or take from Him. He was completely accessible, and still is today by faith alone. My only knowledge of Jesus ever setting a boundary was with the great Deceiver and Accuser, satan.
(See Matthew 4:10)
What was originally meant by therapists to be beneficial within a relationship, has morphed and been contorted into a weapon; a barrier; a wall. It saddens me to see how easily we give up on each other, in families, in places where we work, in neighborhoods, in ministry and even in marriages. One day two people are building a life together, dreaming together, making babies together, and the next they are filing for divorce. The boundary becomes the justification for NOT doing life with their former friend, family member, neighbor, spouse.
I must add that any sort of legal action against someone you supposedly love(d) can easily become a tool of a personal war, a bludgeon of retribution. Jesus commanded us to “do unto others as we would have them do unto us.” A boundary that doesn’t work for both parties, and concurrently toward reconciliation between them, is a farce. Legal actions taken against a mate places a “boundary” between two former lovers; relationship ceases as a legal barrier is erected.
I would ask every modern Christ-follower to take a close look at Jesus’ life and response to opposition. He truly loved the people that opposed Him and wrongfully treated Him. And yet He still allowed them access, all the way to the cross where He died for the sins of the world.
2Corinthians 3:6 …who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
Boundary indeed…
The next time you hear her speak of the boundary she needed in order to protect herself, think back to Jesus’ style of openly relating to everyone, no matter who they were.
I am further amazed at how we have allowed the behavioral science model of family governance to permeate the church. This 75-year old fledgling practice has supplanted pastoral care and true commitment to families that has existed for 2,000+ years, which is described at length in the living Word of God. There are even churches who sponsor boundary-setting seminars and other misguided responses to people they should have loved.
Why do people feel the need to erect a barrier between them and someone else?
Here are a few of the reasons given by therapists who I researched on line –
·      To keep from being hurt
·      To protect ones’ sense of self and autonomy
·      To instruct someone in their behavior
·      To limit someone from acting inappropriately
·      To create healthy respect within a relationship
·      To identify the parameters of how a relationship should work
·      To demand respect from the disrespectful
·      To define and control the expectations within a romantic relationship
·      To advocate for feminist ideals
Notice that none of these end the relationship.
Besides the flippant use of psycho-babble (for that’s what the word boundary has devolved into), I perceive boundaries to be mostly protecting ones’ own self-interests. It becomes, “...what I’m comfortable with, what I’m willing or not willing to do, to give or not give, to be or not be, to suffer or not, etc....,”and always defined exclusively by the user.
Jesus style of relating might be characterized as unassertive or co-dependant by modern society. Yet boundaries seem to be the opposite of the following –
Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.”
Matthew 10:39 “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.”
Matthew 20:16a. “So the last will be first, and the first last…”
Luke 6:27-29  “But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. 29 To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also. And from him who takes away your cloak, do not withhold your tunic either.”
I could offer many more such examples of NOT defending one’s self-interests with so-called boundaries. Is it not enough to know that Jesus Himself turned His other cheek toward those attacking Him as He practiced non-resistance?
He did it out of love, which is ALWAYS the opposite of self-interest.
I now speak prophetically to every Christian reading this blog: “If your relationship ends because of the “boundary” you have set, then its walls are too high, and the LORD would have you take it down, brick by brick, in order to reestablish the relationship, for we have been given the Spirit and ministry of reconciliation.”
2Corinthians 5:18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation.
Out of the love in His heart for everyone, Jesus would rather have allowed Himself to be abused than judge or condemn someone for his shortcomings. In the end, the all too common misapplication of a boundary is simply a way to control someone that you dislike or disapprove of, and with the boundary in place, a person can obtain power over the relationship.
Love is many things, but it always requires risk. To put up walls to keep people out requires no risk at all, and is NOT fundamentally in agreement with the Way.
Conversely, if someone breaks the law with their behavior there is always a legal consequence for that.
Paul the apostle wrote these words about what real love looks like, and we Christians would do well to reexamine our motives surrounding boundaries in light of them –
 1Corinthians 13:4-7
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; 5 does not behave rudely, DOES NOT SEEK ITS OWN, is not provoked, thinks no evil; 6 does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; 7 BEARS ALL THINGS, BELIEVES ALL THINGS, HOPES ALL THINGS, ENDURES ALL THINGS.
In other words, love doesn’t quit on people...
If we loved like Jesus, we would not be so easily provoked, instead we would forbear one another’s weaknesses; we would be able to bear up under whatever was done or said, even if it were a daily occurrence. We would believe the best in our people, no matter where they were currently in their life. This is the only way God can love us, for we, none of us, have arrived yet. And our attitude towards those who wrongfully abuse us, would be to expect and believe for an upward trajectory of improvement in them, while we endure their present state. This is real love, love costs us something; love demands something from us; love demands a sacrifice.
If we would simply love one another, the practice of boundary-setting to self-protect would fade away, like most of the buzzwords in language that come for a season and are soon forgotten.

CAVEAT:  This post would have been published last night. But my &*()&*(&* damn laptop stinks.  My finger touched a certain key and everything disappeared. I’m writing this on the PC instead!
And away. We. Go…
My morning routine is very important to me. While I wait for my day cream and serum and primers to dry upon my visage, I enjoy sipping upon the coffee that Bonaparte makes and serves me—princess that I am.  It is also time for me to read one of my favorite blogs, “That’s Not My Age”, by Alyson Walsh. She’s a spunky Brit with tons of style and panache.  She actually qualifies as one of my delusional best friends forever. I’m sure she would call Scotland Yard if I ever showed up within two feet of her, but that’s the way it goes!
This morning I read a post referencing the new “No Makeup Movement”.  Have you heard of this or seen any of the photographs of the many celebrities posing *cough* *ahem* makeup free?
Most of those who have freed their pusses of cosmetics are under 30 and they are wrinkle and rosacea free as well.  They are also lady whisker free.  You know where this is going don’t you?
Yeah.  Harper’s Bazaar glorified quite a few celebrities who snapped “No Makeup Selfies” and I question the “no makeup” part.  Shall we?
Look closely at Heidi Klum’s cheeks.  She’s wearing contour.  Her bottom lip is also a brighter shade of pink than her top lip and that pink isn’t even.  She’s wearing a minimal amount of makeup.  I’m more impressed with that beautiful wrinkle-free neck.  I want Heidi Klum’s neck.
Salma Hayek thinks that snapping a photo of herself with wet hair means no makeup.  Look at her eyes.  She’s wearing a very, very light brown shadow on her lids.  And look at the bottom lids..I detect a bit of liner and mascara.  WTF has cheeks that are naturally illuminated?  Nobody. That’s who!  She’s wearing some sort of highlighter.  Nobody’s hair looks that good wet.  The lighting is also a factor in a softer look.
Lady Gaga is so incredibly pretty. But I am deeply confused.  Either she has a killer spray tan and didn’t want her face tanned, or she applied a ton of powder on her face before this “no makeup” selfie was snapped.  If that is her natural hair, she’s even more gorgeous than I imagined.
I’m having a hard time with this one because it looks like Cindy Crawford has foundation or concealer on that sexy mole of hers. She lined the bottom of her eyes too!  I’m wondering if I’m a freak of nature because MY lips are naturally much darker. I need lip color to get MY lips that Cindy light color.  I think Cindy does too!  Cindy is also very aware of lighting. That’s why she took the photo under the covers.  I love my Cindy Crawford sofa. It’s held up so much better than my overpriced Ethan Allen one.  Cindy is NOT makeup free in this selfie.
Diane Kruger IS gorgeous.  But This is not a completely no-makeup selfie. She’s got lip balm or a very light gloss on.  I detect a bit of a line of demarcation above her upper eyelid.  But the BEST thing about this selfie is that she has the very beginning of fuzz on her chin. Welcome to the world of lady whiskers my pretty!  Soon you will have a tweezer in every purse!
I swear to goddess.  Bazaar had the balls to add this pic of Kylie Jenner in the “no makeup” selfie.  Oh. Wait. This look IS what no makeup means to the Jenner/Kardashian clan!
Alright.  Bar Refaeli is makeup free.  And if I looked like her, I would not have the need to wear cosmetics.  And SHE is one in a hundred million who could carry this off on a daily basis.  She is a freak of nature!   Nobody is that naturally beautiful!
Megan Fox has watermarked her top inner eyelids.  I know this. I do it all the time.  She filled in her brows.  She also filled in her face. She admitted to it in an interview.  So basically, her makeup is internal.
Now THIS is what I’m talking about. THIS is a true no-makeup photo. It isn’t a selfie. It isn’t from Bazaar.  But it’s a bonafide photo of a woman who is in her late sixties, photographed in natural lighting, without filters.  THANK YOU SAINT HELEN MIRREN!!  Look at the photo after she’s been made up.  The cosmetics that have been applied to her face are not a mask. The cosmetics are enhancing the beautiful features she has.  She looks a good 15 years younger.  I’m very jealous of Mirren. Look at her neck!!!  She’s no turkey!
Now take a look at me without makeup. In one photo the lighting is more natural. In the other, the lighting is more subdued and my hair—or the hair that’s left on my head is cascading over my face to hide some of the many flaws.
Both photos, no makeup. Actually the photo in the subdued light looks much worse than the one of me in regular light.  My lips need some toning down. I have a bit of rosacea. Look. One nostril is larger than the other. That’s because I had a serious Afrin addiction when I was in my thirties.  Back then I didn’t need tweezers in every purse. I carried nasal spray in every purse instead! I was trying to look like Salma Hayek in that other pic –I couldn’t get my hair wet!
I got something to tell youse.  I ain’t getting rid of my makeup. I ain’t leavin’ my house makeup free either! Not now. Not ever. Never!
The only place these eye shadows are going are on my eye lids!
I keep my beauty assistants close by…
I have trunks full of stuff I’ve never even used!
My new brushes now have a special place on my vanity. They are for MY vanity!
The last time I left the house makeup free, with my hair in a bun, I was referred to as “sir”.  My bun must have looked like one of those man buns—or “muns” because of my receding hairline and I’m sure I needed a lip and chin wax.  I rest my case!
Yeah.  Hair back. No makeup.  A bit late to wax the lip and chin. And I”m called “sir”!  Hmmm.. Just like “Sir” Ray Davie and “Sir” Paul McCartney.  I would rather be called Her Highness!
Those crazy celebrities.  Yeah—you can go makeup free when you are younger.  Hell, when I was young I never needed foundation.  I didn’t even wear eyeliner until I reached my thirties!
When I was young it was lip gloss, blush and mascara.  I always had Angel Face pressed powder in my purse because of my then oily “T” zone.  Which I now wish would return!
As a teen, I was never without my Pond’s Angel Face pressed powder. I can still remember the lovely scent it had!
And as I aged—cosmetics became my new best friend.   My once peaches and cream complexion turned into one of dried fruit and sour milk—but sour milk that has been in the fridge that there is a dry-cracked coating. (Yes. This happens. Trust me.  I’ve left milk in the fridge that long).
Foundation brings a new glow to my skin and evens the tone out.
See what I mean. I’m NOT wearing a ton of makeup in this pic.  Just enough to enhance my bone structure and features.  And to NOT make me look like a “sir”!
And all the products that I very carefully apply, some days more carefully than others, I think of as my little assistants.  Because they assist in enhancing the features that I have to bring life back into them.
And I’m not fond of an overly made up look anyway.  I did an experiment a while back. If you may or may not recall–I decided to make myself up like a Kardashian (click the Kardashian name to read the post)
This was my homage to Khloe–when she wore her hair back.  Now you know why I love to dye my hair–those gray roots look horrific!
This look scared me because Bonaparte liked it so much! Jesus!  Look at my crepey neck!
It took me forever to slop all those cosmetics upon my face. I needed a nap after I was done.  It’s too much work. I’ll settle for less makeup and more enhancing!  But my point IS cosmetics are a good thing–even better if they make you feel confident!  Right??
So please. I don’t want to be a part of any  movement that feels women should free themselves of cosmetics.
I’m still trying to deal with the militant group who feel women should go gray!  You want to sport gray hair, go do it. But don’t tell me that I should follow suit!  I’m quite comfortable in my naturally dyed jet black #1 hair.
In the end, no matter whether or not we wear makeup. Or whether or not we let our tresses go gray, we are all beautiful people.
Melanie knows that–she sang a beautiful song about it!
Makeup Free Movement? Nope. I’m of the Make Me Up Movement!!! CAVEAT:  This post would have been published last night. But my &*()&*(&* damn laptop stinks.  My finger touched…

Don’t Make This Kind Of Mistake
Ensure that you always add a watermark to your graphics, no need to make it obnoxious, full color logo sticker. Show off your brand by adding a simple link to your website towards the bottom of your graphic.
Don’t forget to use templates. It doesn’t matter whether you are using infographics, quotes, photographs or other elements; ensure that you use templates to maintain consistency. Your followers can easily identify your work when you are using templates even without adding your name to your work.
How To Create Converting Social Media Graphics
Below is the 5 design hacks which will help you to make your social media content engaging and shareable

How To Create Converting Social Media Graphics
Below is the 5 design hacks which will help you to make your social media content engaging and shareable
