tagged by @grieving4theliving 9 favorite books! I suck at remembering books I loved in the past so these are just the books I’m used to telling people are my favorite books plus some I’ve read recently plus fav series. (for series I tried to choose my fav from each but the series as a whole can also be represented)

tell me abt astrotrain bc I care them. //kicking my legs cutely
TcP-4.md more commonly known as Astrotrain is a Cybertronian passenger shuttle, the largest class of shuttles. They also have a ground transport alt mode. Prior to joining the Decepticons, Astrotrain worked for a major Cybertronian shipping company and later worked alongside Octane in his less than legal business ventures. Astrotrain is known for possessing a rift drive, allowing them to exploit spacetime for the purpose of long distance space travel in incredibly short amounts of time, and they are able to hop across solar systems in minutes. Their fellow Decepticons generally know them as being the most agreeable and helpful of the three triple changers on the team, though honestly that isn’t saying much if you spend one afternoon with Blitzwing and Octane. They are also the second largest Cybertronian in the Decepticon squad who crashed on Earth, second only to Devastator. Generally, the other Decepticons think positively of them, but they’re also wary, Astrotrain known for having had a nasty mean streak of getting into fights right before they were invited to join the team. They tend to keep to themself, their fellow triple changers, and their growing collection of train toys.
Thanks for asking!

what are the scenes you think were forced in Tfota?for me was thre"i hate you"scene in twk,idk i always found that scene a little bit childish and cringe
OMG NOT THE "I HATE YOU"S I LOVE THEMMM!! It is childish, but in a fun way. The mental gymnastics Cardan had to do to avoid asking Jude to tell him she doesn't despise him anymore, the way he settled for her lying to him that she hates him again and again while he could tell she was lying, how it shows his desperate need to be liked bc he gets so worked up over the absolute bottom-of-the-barrel confession... Truly inspired. Sorry for usurping your cringing with my fangirling, it is a totally valid feeling, but I just read TWK the other day so it's still fresh
Honestly I sort of block the cringe from my mind so this is in no way a conclusive or accurate list. Not a fan of the conversation before the famous knife kiss in TCP. "I served prince Dain, not you." Nicasia's obsession with Jude "kissing" Cardan. Balekin's obsession with Jude KISSING Cardan. Every time Jude had to show cleavage even though she didn't want to show cleavage (like c'mon let's retire that trope). Every time someone in QoN tries to frame Locke as an Evil Mastermind Who Orchestrated All the Problems. Every time Suren thinks Oak feels anything more negative than uncomfortable disgust for her pre-Lady Nore's death (except the time she freed the prisoners, that was understandable). Nightfell namedrop in the flashback where Oak frees Suren from the war camp, should have just been hinted at.

MARK
idk why mark just gives loren hale from the addicted/calloway sisters series. like. marvel + spiderman loving vanilla boy with pretty eyes?? mark lee. PLUS i imagine mark to be the boyfriend/best friend to have lo and lily’s kind of communication UGH he would just be perfect in one of those fake dating scenarios IDK.
RENJUN
cardan. oh my god cardan. i don’t think he’d be as rude to his love interest like tcp cardan, but renjun would fit PERFECTLY in the folk of the air world. the aesthetic?? renjun. prettily drunk on fairy wine? renjun. past the og judran banter, renjun would totally fit the hopeless romantic type. idk what else to say renjun is cardan.
JENO
maybe it’s the hockey concept, but i picture jeno as one of the off-campus men. a friend of mine said he kinda gives quiet garrett vibes but idk. like just imagine jeno and the 00 line as college roommates just messing around, playing hockey, enjoying life… idk it just makes sense to me. plussssssimpjeno????
HAECHAN
charlie lastra. honestly this one was the hardest to pin point, but i think haechan gives off similar vibes as charlie. i feel like i’m saying banter too much but charlie and nora have the banter i WISH to have with haechan. they just feed off each other’s madness and that reminds me of the potential of haechan and his s/o.
JAEMIN
atlas fucking corrigan. dude. i wasn’t personally in love with it ends with us but… jaemin as atlas clicks? like if you needed him he would drop everything to run and make sure you’re okay. he would be such a safe haven for you, and it’s a major plus that they both know how to cook. bruh like imagine jaemin opening his old restaurant and naming it after you *heart eyes*
CHENLE
chenle would 100% be one of the twisted men. ONE HUNDRED PERCENT. i don’t know if this makes sense to anyone else but just.. chenle? in a suit? being possessive over the mc and flashing his money to make his partner happy every chance he gets? yes. he could literally fit every troupe: fake dating, enemies to lovers, best friends brother and vise versa LIKE !?!?
JISUNG
i can see him being a hawthorne like from the inheritance game IDK. i know xander isn’t technically a book boyfriend but my god he and jisung could literally be the same person. the way some fans write jisung he could also play a good jameson OR grayson like he just has traits from all three. maybe even the unbotherness of nash as well like he’s just all the hawthorne brothers rolled into one bro i love it.

I don't mean to be on anonymous, but you never answer me when I put my actual name. Just wanted to let you know The Color Purple won best movie at the NAACP Image awards. Fantasia got Best Leading Actress in a Drama Film, and Taraji got Best Supporting Actress. I know how upset you were for TCP only getting one nomination at the Oscars.
Tumblr media
Sorry for the super-late response Anon.... The past few weeks have been pretty busy and kinda stressful for me, so I apologize that I'm getting to so many msgs so LATE. 😔
But anyway, I'm so happy for them honestly! 😁
You're right, I was flabbergasted that TCP was barely even acknowledged at the Oscars this year 🙄.... but yet, a simple musical about acting and trying to make it as an actor and a jazz musician in LA (La La Land) swept an entire awards season years ago. 😒 (and I actually LOVED "La La Land"! I just think it was a tad OVERhyped.... just like "Barbie" 👀 🫣)
Tumblr media
Good for them! 👏🏾 I'm so happy for all of them. 😊 I'm glad that at least they were appreciated by the NAACP Awards. 🥰
They deserved to be acknowledged at mainstream awards as well, but hey, it is what it is. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I’ve never read ACOTAR, but one thing I feel like The Cruel Prince does do well is showing fae’s simultaneous distain and fascination for humans. Like in that book you always get the vibe that humans are looked down upon for their mortality but also slightly envied?? Idk I could be looking into it too much, but I do think TCP structures it’s fae society in an interesting way. However, it’s not very mysterious and lacks a lot of fae folklore.
But I second what the other anon said, I love how your works lean into the uncanny/otherworldly nature of fae. Honestly so much more refreshing than the stereotypical “monster boyfriend” trope
Interesting! I'm getting back into fantasy more lately, so, maybe I will end up checking these out just to gauge what I think, hah.
Also thank you! I love otherworldly creatures so I'm glad they come across as uncanny.
I mean I do love monster boyfriends that are just like... uwu... monster boyfriends. But I love a good genuine monstrosity, too!

I'll never understand some jurdan stans who bash feysand. Feyre and jude will be besties and feysand & jurdan share so many similarities (minus the age gap lol) it's insane.
this is a subject that has already generated a lot of controversy on twitter 🤭 my answer will be heavily based on the arguments i saw some tcp stans use in that thread. (if you are a tcp stan who hates rhys don't read this. i don't care if you think he's the worst character in the world, and arguing with me isn't going to change my mind.)
it's funny that tcp stans feel so superior when cardan isn't much different from rhys. both are gray characters who had questionable attitudes and were cruel at first. somehow tcp's stans think it's possible to compare the evil of the two and they will try to argue in every way because they particularly think that cardan was not as bad as rhys, but come on, the name of the saga is ''the cruel prince''. he was undoubtedly not nice. and my point is that they are characters whose purpose was not to be good characters. they weren't meant to be heroes in golden armor, but rather flawed characters who did morally questionable things. pointing out that one is better than the other is down to personal taste, so coming up with an air of superiority just because you don't like rhys is shameful and hypocritical.
regarding jude and feyre, i think those fandoms where they praise female characters a lot for being badass tend to be the most misogynistic. feyre undeniably is a very strong female character who has gone through a lot to save the ones she loved, who has sacrificed herself and who has given her all for a greater cause. feyre taught herself to hunt, feyre is an amazing artist, feyre has earned the respect of an entire continent and even then, people tend to forget her accomplishments, and all because acotar has a lot of focus on romance and because she chose to be a mother at the end of the saga (even when the choice was obviously to give her sister redemption.) i honestly feel like people haven't read feyre's books because for me it's impossible for anyone to say she's a weak character, or like she's not feminist enough lol  🤪
so even if tcp fandom forces this rivalry, i agree with you and i think jurdan and feysand would get along great. jude would love to talk to the feyre because she was once human and know what it's like to be at a disadvantage with the fae.

Congrats on the Hartman pride jersey! It looks really neat (and it's very unfortunate that the players never wore them).
A couple questions, if you're willing to answer them: How'd you find out about the auction? (I don't think the Wild advertised it.. or I completely missed it...) And were any player's jersey excluded or unsigned?
Thanks & congrats again!
👀👀 I see you checked my Twitter haha
Thank you! It’s quite lovely in person, I’m glad I went for it.
I found out about the auction because it was actually hosted by Twin Cities Pride, and I’m subscribed to their newsletters and other emails! The Wild had nothing to do with this, it wasn’t even hosted using the auction website they normally use for these things, and I picked the jersey up at TCP’s office directly.
They had jerseys for almost everyone, a few signed pucks, two pride-styled jerseys without a name or number signed by the whole team (could not verify if it was every signature of course), and signed nameplates! Basically anything you’d expect from a pride auction, which tracks with the info from Russo that it was canceled literally the morning of.
If I had to guess, someone somewhere in the Wild organization arranged for all of this to be donated for fundraising, which is honestly very decent of them if it’s true.
I looked over the jerseys several times and the only player I noticed to be missing was Kirill’s. I didn’t see a nameplate for him either but I will admit to not scrutinizing those as closely. All of the jerseys available for bid were signed, and I THINK they had player alterations done, but as this is my first Hartzy gamer it’s hard for me to tell (not everyone has as much done to their jerseys as Geno, lol).
I hope I answered all your questions, let me know if I didn’t or if something was confusing!

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
the stolen heir : holly black ⭐⭐⭐⭐
it took me about a week to read this book and by that i mean i read half, wasn’t impressed, took a week and came back and finished it. like with the cruel prince, the beginning and middle of this book aren’t all that exciting in my opinion, but holly takes the cake as usual for her incredible endings. honestly at this point reading a holly black book is worth it just to see how she wraps it. but yeah, i think it was a good starting point for the duology, im positive the prisoner’s throne will be better, as was the case with tcp > twk. im happy to say towards the end i had really connected with oak and suren/wren, however i feel like despite how fun of a concept it is to put wren and jude in direct opposition its...hm, bad ? to clarify, i wish that i felt conflicted on who’s side i was rooting for. but even if wren was in the right, which...bridle aside she isnt, i would still be in jude’s corner simply because even with all the time spent with wren it’s not enough to...connect with her on the same level as i did with jude. and thats a heavy ask to be fair; jude is one of my favorite character’s in the ya/new adult genre. but i think a understandable worry with this duology is that the folk of the air series might overshadow this new story holly black is trying to tell. i can’t say definitively if it has or has not, but i think she’s done a better job of balancing the new characters and plots with reference to the old. it’ll really be a testament to how well she can keep both separate and important in the next book as she’s hinted that jude and cardan will have a bigger role (which makes sense, since we’re uhh going to war. uh oh).
the invisible life of addie la rue : v.e. schwab ⭐⭐⭐
i read 60% of this book probably over a year ago. maybe two. on a plane. this is a reoccurring problem. but i gotta say, schwab is the queen of concepts. she hasn’t had a single book concept that i wasn’t at least a little intrigued by. unfortunately, uhh, this doesn’t always translate to an interesting plot. the beginning of this book is good, it’s engaging (as far as i remember), bestie lost me when she introduced the most uninteresting man in the world: what’s-his-name. no actually, what was his name--hold on--henry ! his name is henry. he is boring. i understand his purpose in the story, but uhh, the most interesting thing about that man was...the deal he made with the devil i guess ? and that gets revealed so late in the game you have to wade through addie being infatuated with this Regular Guy (not that i blame her when he’s the only one that can remember her), but god, yeah that’s a pretty comprehensive reason for me putting this book down for so long. the ending though, see this is the important part, the ending was very good. i was happily surprised how open-ended it was. though the hopeless romantic that lives deep inside my chest and chews on my bones will continue to believe that the dark could learn to love, okay. i don’t think that should be held against me, either way addie wins. slay queen.
daisy jones & the six : taylor jenkins reid ⭐⭐⭐
very different book from the two other before this, lol. im pretty sure i picked up this book offhandedly the last time i went to b&n, i read the seven husbands of evelyn hugo last year and wasn’t...super impressed ? authors tend to hit me a lot harder with their debuts then second or third releases. for some reason. i really respect reid for her use of journalism styles to tell these fictional stories, how much historical research probably goes into making everything seem realistic. i do think--as a personal opinion--writing about music is a very challenging thing. it’s very difficult to properly convey how music sounds, or feels, without being able to hear the music itself. (i feel the same about dancing, but that’ll probably come up another day). but the story is as much about the music as it is about the complex interweaving relationship of the characters in and outside of the band. shout out to my girl, camilla, the best character in that book. i think the most impressive thing to me about the book, besides the stylistic choices (aka the interview aspect), is how the waves minor characters like camilla or teddy or simone make deeply effect every aspect of the story. very akin to real life, there’s so many people that can change the game for you--especially for character’s like daisy and billy who are so deep in substance abuse and addiction at certain points. overall, really great book, the very last page made me laugh out loud.
beach read : emily henry ⭐⭐⭐⭐
emily henry books feel like a guilty pleasure to me at this point. i started reading her books on my flight to new york last summer, which is coincidentally where i picked up a physical copy of beach read that slept in my suitcase for uhh...six months ? anyways i finally decided to read her after talking about emily henry and her books with a friend of mine. it was a very good decision on my part--this is my favorite of her books. i feel like i need to start with the things i dont like about this book, lol. my biggest pet peeve with contemporary romance is that every single one of these characters is an author, or a publisher, or does something in the literary industry. please stop. i get thats where a lot of these authors have experience, it is their field, but jesus christ can we just have like. an illiterate main character. someone with an undeniable hatred for everything book-related. let’s be quirky and different...please ? all that said, january and gus have some actually great conversations about writer’s block and how it feels to write outside of your comfort zone. i’ll say out of all the books ive read in recent years that have to do with writers (another of which being an emily henry book 🙄), this is the best its been done in my opinion. the relationship development in this book is just very gradual and i love that, the fact that they knew each other before, but not deeply enough to be friends so we still get to see them get to know each other beyond their work is really important to me. sidenote: completely understand what january means when she’s talking about the sad and depressing shit people write about in an undergrad creative writing program. good lord. the heavy topics in this book felt very well handled in the context of...yknow a romance novel, it was kind of nice to have a love interest that wasn’t like...secretly a huge asshole who’s hiding the worst secret in the world. they had me worried for a second there when the exwife showed up, but the swerve at the last second was very appreciated. this book would have a very different review if that had been handled differently. lemme tell you, lol. overall, very enjoyable, probably the most fun ive had in this genre since the hating game. wow.

House Of Wax: Part Twenty
@rubycstory07 😊
Not sure if anyone is still reading this but hey. Not sure if I like this chapter, think I’ve made Vincent too soft, he probably would have stabbed her lol
Warnings: Rape (Mentioned), Miscarriage (Mentioned), Self harm (Mentioned)
(Kaia wakes up and squints at the brightness of the room. Someone’s opened the grubby curtains and the sunlight is streaming into the room. She has spent most of the last two weeks lying in bed. She hasn’t eaten much and has mostly just slept. Vincent had stitched up her wounds, dabbed TCP on her split lip and then carried her to bed. She looks down at her arms which are still bandaged. One because of a wound she herself made. The other Bo and his knife. She wonders why Vincent took such good care of her afterwards. Perhaps her plan is starting to work after all. Perhaps she can convince him that Bo is evil and they would be better off without him. But then maybe he only fixed her up because Bo told him to. He always does exactly as Bo says after all. She sighs and closes her eyes trying to go back to sleep. She hears the door open a few minutes later and footsteps. She tenses up waiting for hands to start pawing at her. She hears something being put down on the bedside cabinet.).
Lester: Thought you might want some breakfast.
(She doesn’t move.).
Lester: Come on girl you gotta eat, no use starving yourself.
Kaia: Piss off. What do you care? You’re just as sick as he is.
Lester: Now look I’m trying to be nice to you.
Kaia: Well bang up job ya’ll are doing.
(Lester sighs.).
Kaia: Just go away and leave me alone.
Lester: Look I ain’t saying it’s right what my brother did...But did you honestly wanna have his kid?
Kaia: It was my baby too.
Lester: So you wanted it?
Kaia: I didn’t want any of this. I didn’t want to be raped, I didn’t want to be beaten and tortured and held captive. I didn’t want to be pregnant and I didn’t want someone to beat me so bad that I lost a baby. I also don’t want you coming in here bringing me fucking breakfast and telling me that you’re trying to be nice. Fuck off. I dread to think what it would be like if you were all horrible to me.
Lester: Well...It’s there if you want it. Coffee too. I’ll leave you to your pity party.
(Lester leaves the room closing the door behind him. Kaia lets out a sob and closes her eyes. Fucking bastards.).
(It’s late afternoon and Kaia is sitting in the church next to Whitney. She is crying. This is the first time she’s left the house in two weeks.).
Kaia: I can’t believe this is happening to me. Why me? Why us? You know what he’s done now? He got me pregnant then when he found out he beat me so bad that I lost the baby. I’m still bleeding. I should probably see a doctor really but that ain’t happening is it? Be just my luck wouldn’t it? Survive Bo for this long only to get killed by a fucking infection or some shit! I thought Vincent was different but now...I’m not so sure. He just stood there and watched Bo beating me. He just watched as I lost my baby and he did nothing. Nothing! Why would you do that?
(She wipes her eyes.).
Kaia: I tried to kill myself. Slashed my wrist with a razor. But oh no I’m not allowed to die am I? No not until Bo says! Vincent patched me up. He took care of me. It kinda felt like he cared. Kinda didn’t. But then I realised that he probably only did all that on Bo’s orders. He’s the boss and everyone has to do what he says. God he’s such a fucking bully!
(Then don’t let him be. Fight back.).
Kaia: With what? I have nothing.
(Even if she managed to hurt or kill Bo his two brothers would have something to say about that. She highly doubts she could take them all on.).
Kaia: I’m gonna die here.
(No.).
Kaia: I am.
(Fight. Kaia turns and looks at Whitney. Fight!).
Kaia: I’ll try.
(She gets up and turns around. She stops dead as she sees Vincent standing just a few feet from where she was sitting. She wipes her eyes then leaves the pew and stands there staring at him. She wonders how long he’s been stood there listening to her talking to her dead friend. He takes a step towards her and holds out a bag. She looks down at it and realises that it is Whitney’s tote bag. She looks up at Vincent frowning.).
Kaia: For me?
(He nods and she slowly takes the bag. She looks inside and sees her walkman and the CD’s from the RV. There is also some clothes, they’re Whitney’s.).
Kaia: My music.
(She puts the bag over her shoulder.).
Kaia: Thank you.
(She thinks for a moment then wraps her arms around him. He stands there stiff as a board then he steps backwards. She frowns.).
Kaia: You don’t like hugs?
(He stares at her frowning.).
Kaia: Well...I’m gonna go and lie down. I feel quite tired. Maybe I’ll listen to some music.
(She smiles then leaves the church heading back up to the house.).
(Kaia is lying in bed with her headphones in. It’s late evening and she’s gazing out of the window at the night sky watching the stars twinkling. She doesn’t hear Bo stomping into the room but she is made aware of his presence when he grabs her roughly and hauls her up before smacking her across the face. She lets out a cry as the walkman falls to the floor with a clatter and the CD flies out.).
Bo: The hell is this? Huh?
Kaia: What’s what?
Bo: This! I told you no music!
Kaia: What?
Bo: No music. That’s what I said. You disobedient little bitch!
Kaia: I don’t understand.
Bo: Really? I say no music and you sneak up to the old mill to get it anyway!
Kaia: What? I didn’t go up there. I went to the church that’s it. Vincent gave me Whitney’s bag with my music and some clothes.
Bo: He did what?
Kaia: He gave me this stuff. I just thought you’d told him to give it to me.
Bo: The fuck...
(Bo turns and stomps out of the room. Kaia gets up and follows him to Vincent’s bedroom. He kicks open the door and marches over to Vincent who gets up from his desk.).
Bo: The fuck you giving her shit for?
(Vincent just stands there.).
Bo: Huh? You dumb fuck! I didn’t say she could have anything! The fuck’s wrong with you?
(Bo smacks Vincent over the head and Vincent steps backwards.).
Kaia: Leave him alone.
Bo: Awww. What you two friends now?
Kaia: Just leave it. Why do you have to get so mad all the time? It’s just a walkman.
(Bo glares at Vincent.).
Bo: No more giving her gifts alright? She’s just a whore, she’ll be like the others soon.
(Kaia shudders.).
Bo: I don’t know what’s up with you lately. You trying to lose your virginity or something?
(Bo chuckles and turns for the door. Kaia steps back but Bo grabs her by the hair. She lets out a sob then remembers Whitney’s voice in her head. Fight. She brings her knee up into Bo’s groin. He lets out a grunt of pain and doubles over slightly. He punches her sending her sprawling backwards onto the landing. She pulls herself to her feet as Bo grabs her again. She reaches up and scratches his face making him yell.).
Bo: You little bitch!
(He knees her in the stomach making her double over gasping. He drags her down the hall and into his bedroom. Vincent hears the door slam shut then Kaia screaming. Vincent closes his bedroom door and sits back down at his desk.).
(Kaia is in the bathroom looking in the mirror. Her body is a road map of bruises and she has a black eye. It’s slightly swollen too. She lets out a sob then leaves the bathroom wrapping her dressing gown around herself again. She is just about to go back into Bo’s room when she hears whining coming from down the hall. She walks to Vincent’s bedroom and hears scratching on the door. She opens the door and Vincent’s dog walks out. She turns and follows the dog down the stairs. It sits by the back door and she sighs.).
Kaia: You want to go out huh?
(She opens the door and the dog bounds outside. She follows it and stands there watching as it walks around sniffing the ground. Once the dog has done its business it trots back inside and she follows it closing the door behind her. She follows it back upstairs and into Vincent’s room. The dog lies down on the floor and she kneels down to stroke it. She suddenly hears a creak and looks up to see that Vincent has gotten out of bed. He hasn’t got his mask on and he is glaring at her. She smiles at him.).
Kaia: The dog needed to pee so I let him out. He was scratching at your door.
(She stands up and stares at him. He is wearing a pair of black jogging bottoms, his torso bare.).
Kaia: Well I should probably get back to bed. Don’t want another beating. Night Vincent.
(She turns and leaves the room closing the door behind her. She goes back to Bo’s bedroom and gets back into bed next to him. He fidgets and lets out a grunt but remains asleep. She curls up with her back to him and closes her eyes.).
(Kaia is in the kitchen making coffee. It’s just gone midday and Bo has been absent from the house for the last three days. She wonders where he’s gone not that she’s complaining. It means she gets a reprieve however brief it may be. Lester is out again as always and she has no idea where Vincent is. His workshop perhaps. She thinks he actually sleeps down there sometimes. As she sits down with her coffee she wonders if her plan is working at all. She remembers Vincent putting his hands on Bo’s chest as if to try and stop him from beating her when she lost the baby. He drew her and painted her and he bought her the walkman and her CD’s along with more clothes. Perhaps she’s succeeding more than she thinks. She wonders what to do next, she has to be careful. A plan suddenly forms in her mind, she doesn’t like it and she isn’t sure if it will work but she has to try. Fight. Hm. Fat lot of good fighting did for her last time. Still she has to do something. She’s starting to think that she is going to die here, she’s even been having nightmares about it. With Lester and Bo out it seems this is the perfect time to try out her new idea. She just needs to find Vincent. She decides to drink her coffee and enjoy the rare moment of peace and quiet. Another idea suddenly occurs to her. She could run now. With Bo and Lester gone that only leaves Vincent and he’s probably in his workshop and wouldn’t even know she was gone. But then Bo or Lester might not be too far away, they might see her leave. Maybe they have set this up to see if she tries to run, she wouldn’t put it past them. She sighs debating on whether she should just get up and leave when she hears footsteps. Vincent appears in the doorway. There goes the idea of running. She smiles at him.).
Kaia: Coffee?
(He walks over to the kettle and makes himself a coffee before leaving the room and going upstairs. She finishes her coffee and goes upstairs. She walks into his room. He is sat at his desk leafing through sheets of paper. She sits down in the armchair in the corner. He has taken off his mask which has melted slightly again. He glances at her and she smiles.).
Kaia: Looks like it’s just me and you again.
(He looks back down at his desk and picks up a pencil.).
Kaia: You been working on another sculpture?
(She moves the armchair closer to the desk and he turns and looks at her frowning.).
Kaia: You know...I was wondering if you could draw something for me.
(He continues to stare at her.).
Kaia: Could you draw Whitney? Bo won’t let me have any of my photos and it would be nice to have a picture of her. She was a very good friend. She always knew what to say and she was smart and funny. I think you would have liked her if you’d gotten to know her. She saw the good in everyone. You don’t have to I just...
(She shrugs and looks down. She hears the rustle of paper and the scratch of a pencil. She looks up to see Vincent hunched over the paper drawing. His mouth is open slightly and his tongue suddenly pokes out a bit. She finds herself giggling. He turns and looks at her.).
Kaia: You look so cute when your concentrating.
(His expression doesn’t change. She decides if she’s going to do this she might as well go all the way with it.).
Kaia: You know...I had a dream about you last night.
(He’s turned his attention back to his drawing.).
Kaia: I’ve been thinking about you ever since that day I saw you getting out of the shower.
(His hand stills the pencil hovering over the page.).
Kaia: Um...In the dream last night...I was touching you. Your hair, your chest...I’ve found myself wondering lately what it would feel like to touch you. What your hair would feel like...Your skin...What you would feel like. You were touching me too. I know it’s kinda wrong...I sleep next to your brother but...I don’t want to be there. I don’t want to lay next to him. He’s mean and...He treats me like shit. He forces himself on me I don’t want it. It’s not like I’m in a relationship with him. It’s not wrong is it? Tell me it’s not wrong.
(He turns his head slowly and stares at her. She thinks he kinda looks suspicious. His eye is narrowed and his head is slightly tilted to one side. He might appear at times like he’s an idiot and perhaps a bit simple but he obviously isn’t. Perhaps he is suspicious of her intentions here. She decides to just go for it and see what happens. She leans forward and goes to kiss him. Her lips barely touch his when he jumps out of his chair and steps backwards. Now he is glaring at her. He looks frightening.).
Kaia: I...I’m sorry. I just thought...
(She gets up. He tilts his head to one side again.).
Kaia: You drew a picture of me and did a painting. You made me look beautiful. You gave me my music and some clothes. You’ve always been nice to me. You fixed me up after I lost the baby and I tried to kill myself. You took care of me. Your always watching me and Bo whenever we...I just thought maybe...You fancied me.
(She looks down.).
Kaia: Course you don’t. Sorry. Stupid.
(She feigns embarrassment.).
Kaia: I’ll just um...Go.
(She leaves the room hurriedly. She walks down the hall to Bo’s room and goes inside closing the door behind her. She sighs as she sinks to the floor. So much for that plan.).

Why I think The Cruel Prince is so popular
There are a few factors, which lead to TCP being so popular which I just wanted to state here.
Reason 1:
Holly Black used a publishing company. That just means that she didn’t have to worry about book promotion because a company could do it all for her. (This is not a bad thing just something I wanted to add.)
Reason 2:
I have read her other books and not just TCP and I have really enjoyed them. Personally, I think she’s a pretty good author so even though I wasn’t the biggest fan of TCP her having written other books certainly helped promote TCP.
Reason 3:
I think an obvious reason is also how overhyped her book was on both booktok and Instagram. It was what everyone talked about along with ACOTAR and SOC. I read the book during that time, I finished all the books but honestly I didn’t love it. I thought it was alright. It really only got traction (it seemed to me) because of all the overhyping.
Reason 4:
Lastly, I think this book blew up because Holly Black put something new and different on the table. She didn’t give the ‘I love you’ ‘No I love you more’ troupe. She gave the ‘l tell her that I think of her, often, it’s disgusting and I can’t stop,’ and ‘she puts a knife to his throat’, dynamic. Holly black have us something that we didn’t really realize could be used. It was enemies to lovers to enemies and lovers.
My opinion:
All in all the book was good. It wasn’t my absolute favorite but it also wasn’t terrible. For lack of better words it was mid. When I was younger, I personally hated the idea of how Holly Black made their dynamic (said in previous paragraph) but now that I’m older I do like it a lot more.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk and have a good day! :)

you know after playing the first couple chapters of the callisto protocol while streaming last night, i can understand why it has mixed reviews on steam, but i feel like some of the things people are complaining about are like. missing the point. my older brother told me people were complaining about the combat being "too hard" and the game being a "dead space reskin but with combat downgraded to QTEs" and like. yeah, the game is very similar to dead space in terms of atmosphere and general story structure. but that's not necessarily a bad thing? a lot of the people who are playing it are fans of dead space and probably were, to some extent, expecting it to be similar to dead space because it was advertised as being made by some of the same people who made the dead space series. so like. i feel like a lot of people would have complained if the game hadn't been ENOUGH like dead space.
but also like. on the topic of the combat. this particular area is where the game varies a LOT from the dead space-like aspects of the story and atmosphere. because the combat in TCP feels like it is specifically constructed to be as distressing as possible for people who were expecting dead space-like combat. bc dead space's combat is mostly ranged gun combat with only incidental melee moments, whereas TCP's combat is mostly melee with only incidental ranged gun combat. TCP's combat is all about getting in close and beating the enemies senseless, whereas dead space's combat is all about keeping enemies as far away from you as humanly possible. dead space's combat allows you to stagger enemies and basically stunlock them by shooting them over and over, while TCP's enemies will be staggered the first time you shoot them but then keep running at you the more you try to shoot them from a distance. dead space's combat encourages you to shoot the limbs off enemies to get them to die as quickly as possible, while TCP has enemies that will fucking continue running at you and trying to attack you even if you blow their fucking heads off. dead space's necromorphs will block your blows if you try to melee them too much, while TCP's enemies will block your bullets with their arm if you shoot them too much. i think saying that TCP's combat being QTEs is unpleasant is a fair criticism on some level, but i feel like if TCP's combat had been TOO similar to dead space's, the same people who say that it's not similar enough would have been bitching about it being not different enough. also just. having to get within swinging range of every single enemy you fight is definitely scarier than shooting them from a distance. the melee focused combat is fucking freaky as hell, and it's way harder to actually master. which, IMO, is a good thing, because a lot of the people coming into the game from being fans of dead space probably have that particular combat style pretty well mastered. it needed to be different so it wouldn't be too easy.
idk, i can kinda understand why people are complaining about the game, but i also feel like this is a hardcore case of reviewers just not being fair when judging the game. i can understand if you dislike TCP's particular style of combat relying on QTEs, but unfortunately it feels like the game is stuck living in dead space's shadow. which. i think if it hadn't been advertised as being by the same ppl who made dead space, it wouldn't be getting the level of mixed reviews that it's currently getting. idk. maybe i'm inclined to go easier on it because i like dead space and i wanted this game to succeed. but i just really think people bitching about it on steam are just using their expectations for the game to bludgeon it over the head with wanting it to be something it isn't (i.e. another dead space game) rather than giving it the chance to be its own thing. feels honestly like it ends up being a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" kind of setup for the developers where making the game too dead space-esque is bad, but not making it dead space-esque enough is ALSO bad. really wish people would just judge the game on its own fucking artistic merit rather than expecting it to be dead space 4.

Recap on what I've already done before continuing on to learning privilege escalation.
Following the module, I've learned the basics of using a VPN through the command line:
How to use SSH and what it's for. Essentially, being a more secure way to log into a website as an administrator via public/private keys, I think.
How to use Netcat and its basic function, though I really need to take the time to find a module on it more in depth to understand what it really does/can do. So far, I just understand that it's a way to connect and interact with different TCP and UDP ports, if I'm understanding things properly.
The module had me install Tmux, though as far as I understand it only lets me have multiple windows in my command terminal. (Not so useful for me outside specific circumstances I can imagine where I already have other terminals open and need a new space within something on screen already.)
It went over Vim, though even with it only being for text editing (as far as I can tell from its explanation), I don't quite understand it and its usage. I should definitely look into it more since keyboard only usage would be helpful, though I doubt I'd be able to full immerse myself in it.
Nmap was probably the thing I understood the fastest. Being just to preform a scan to see what ports are open or being used, it can be the easiest way to find open ports, but that would just be a basic scan. When using it for more in-depth scans, though it may take longer, the scans can indicate all open ports and even what versions each port is running on, giving you the information needed to find ways into a system. It also allows scripts to be ran giving extra functionality, a deeper dive into Nmap usage definitely seems warranted.
FTP (File Transfer Protocol) was something I honestly forgot about after it was showed to me, but given it's importance in acquiring data from a server, I'm sure I need to take the time to go back and understand how its used and what exactly it can do.
Interjecting here since as I was booting up my VM, I encountered an issue where the VM stays on a black screen when I logged in. It's a consistent issue, but just exiting Fullscreen fixes it. I guess I should figure out why so I don't have to deal with it later.
SMB (Server Message Block) seems like an important protocol to be able to exploit, but I don't think I paid enough attention to this section of the module to really understand what all I can do with it. Even as I reread the section right now, I don't think I understand it very well. I do understand there's a thing called smbclient that lets you access information within so you can get potentially get access to user files, but aside from this usage, I think I'm missing something
SNMP (No clue the expanded name) seems to be something for finding information on routers? It says that you could potentially find credentials being passed through it, but I don't really understand the explanation.
Taking a short break before recounting other parts of the module like Web Enumeration, Public Exploits, and the different types of Shells it explains.
