Here is a link to the original full statement of Tal Mitnick posted to Twitter (X) on the 26th of December, 2023. Tal is an 18-year-old Israeli who is a conscientious objector refusing to serve in the IDF. While he isn't the first conscientious objector in IDF history by far, nor the only one currently openly refusing to serve in the IDF, he is the first to do so and receive jail time since October 7th and the "start" of Israel's genocide more than 80 days ago.
I feel it is morally and historically important for his words to be preserved and for everyone to have the option to read his statement. However, even with the new year having passed, I have not been able to find a version of it with a full transcription of the images from the original tweet - through ALT text or plain text - and so I have transcribed it below.
"There is no military solution - a statement of refusal
This land has a problem - there are two nations with an undeniable connection to this place. But even with all the violence in the world, we could not erase the Palestinian people or their connection to this land, just as the Jewish people or our connection to the same land cannot be erased. The problem here is supremacy, the belief that this land belongs to only one people. Violence cannot solve the situation, neither by Hamas, nor by Israel. There is no military solution to a political problem. Therefore, I refuse to enlist in an army that believes that the real problem can be ignored, under a government that only continues the bereavement and pain.
On the seventh of October, Israeli society experienced a trauma the likes of which was not known in the history of the country. In a terrible invasion, the terrorist organization Hamas murdered hundreds of innocent civilians and kidnapped hundreds more, families were murdered in their homes, young people were massacred during a rave and 240 people were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip. After the terrorist attack, a revenge campaign began not only against Hamas, but against all Palestinian people. Indiscriminate bombings of residential neighborhoods and refugee camps in Gaza, full military and political support for settler violence in the West Bank, and political persecution on an unprecedented scale inside Israel. The reality we live in is a violent one. According to Hamas and also according to the IDF and the political echelon, violence is the only way. Continuing this cycle: "an eye for an eye" without thinking about an actual solution that would provide security and freedom to us all, only leads to more killing and suffering.
I refuse to believe that more violence will bring security, I refuse to take part in a war of revenge. I grew up in a home where life is sacred, where discussion is valued, where discourse and understanding always come before taking violent measures. In the world full of corrupt interests in which we live, violence and war are another way to increase support for the government and silence criticism. We must recognize the fact that after weeks of the ground operation in Gaza, at the end of the day - negotiations, an agreement, brought back the hostages. It was actually military action that caused them to be killed. Because of the criminal lie that "there are no innocent civilians in Gaza", even hostages waving a white flag shouting in Hebrew were shot to death. I don't want to imagine how many similar cases there were that were not investigated because the victims were born on the wrong side of the fence. The people who said "no negotiations with Hamas" were simply wrong. Period. Diplomacy, political effort, and policy change are the only way to prevent further destruction and death on both sides.
The violence that the army uses and has used over the years does not protect us. The cycle of violence is indeed a cycle - the violence of the army, like that of any army, produces more blood. In practice, it is nothing more than an army of occupation and its maintenance. At the moment of truth it has abandoned the residents of the south and the entire country. It is important to distinguish between the ordinary people and the generals and self serving people who sit at the head of the system: none of the ordinary people decided to fund Hamas, none of us chose to perpetuate the occupation, and none of us decided to move troops to the West Bank days before the invasion, because settlers decided to build a Sukkah in Huwara. And now, after a long-standing policy that was always destined to explode, we are the ones who are sent to kill and be killed in Gaza. We are not sent to fight for peace, but in the name of revenge. I decided to refuse to enlist before the war, but since it started, I am only more and more sure of my decision.
Before the war, the army guarded settlements, maintained the murderous siege on the Gaza Strip, and upheld the status quo of the apartheid and Jewish supremacy in the land between the Jordan and the sea. Since the outbreak of the war, we have not seen any call for a real policy change in the West Bank and Gaza, for an end to the widespread oppression of the Palestinian people and the bloodshed, or for a just peace. We are seeing the opposite: the deepening of oppression, the spreading of hatred, and the expansion of the fascist political persecution within Israel.
The change will not come from the corrupt politicians here, or from the leaders of Hamas, who are corrupt as well. It will come from us - the people of the two nations. I believe wholeheartedly that the Palestinian people are not an evil people. Just like here, where the vast majority of people want to live a good and safe life, have a place for their children to play after school, and to make ends meet at the end of the month, so do Palestinians. On the eve of the seventh of October, support for Hamas in Gaza was at a low of 26%. Since the outbreak of violence, it has grown significantly stronger. In order to change, an alternative must be put in place, an alternative to Hamas, and an alternative to the militaristic society in which we live. This change will come when we recognize the suffering of the Palestinian people over the years, and that this suffering is the result of Israeli policy. Along with recognition must also come justice, correction, and the construction of a political infrastructure based on peace, freedom and equality. I do not want to take part in the continuation of the oppression and the continuation of the cycle of bloodshed, but to work directly for a solution, and therefore I refuse. I love this country and the people here, because it is my home. I sacrifice and work so that this land will be one that respects others, one where you can live with dignity.
Tal Mitnick, 26.12.2023"

well i just went into the israel tag to read&reblog posts about the stuff happenening there, i’ve got family and friends there (who are thankfully ok) and the TOP POST is . ok the post itself i could *potentially* take in good faith but its still implying things badly and the notes are awful. can’t trust tumblr to be kind about anything. the israel palestine situation is not black-and-white and dammit you cannot condemn every single person in either country or say that they deserve to be terrorized

bc of a stoners guide to starbucks im so obsessed w getting an email to rate my uni starbucks 😭😭i just realized i finally got a survey but missed the deadline bc it’s been 11 days
omg im so glad you’re enjoying a stoner’s guide to starbucks !! :’) although that is a sweet sentiment i DO have something i would like to address on that note
i’ve been meaning to say something about this for a while actually due to the very obvious setting of my smau, but i’d greatly appreciate if we can separate the fictional starbucks in my social media au from starbucks as a real life corporation ! anon btw i hope you don’t see this as a jab at you at all, i just want to put this out there in general for everyone who’s reading !!
if you don’t know already, more than 8000 palestinians in gaza have been killed by israel just this month. israel is a settler colony, which is a form of colonization that aims to replace the native population of the land they’re colonizing with their settlers. so palestine has been oppressed by israel for decades with the support of nations like the united states and the united kingdom
why im bringing this up is because three targeted boycotts are happening: starbucks (suing its union for posts about supporting palestine), mcdonald’s (donated free meals to israeli army), and disney+ (pledged $2m support for israel). so i please ask that you don’t support starbucks by buying food/drink from them or giving them high ratings ! the starbucks worker union itself is asking us to boycott starbucks and their stocks have been plummeting rn btw
also PLEASE do not harass people who work at starbucks or mcdonald’s. most people don’t support genocide but don’t have the financial capabilities to quit their current jobs, especially with the state the job market is at right now in america. plus the main reason why people are being asked to boycott starbucks is because starbucks union workers themselves were fired for standing with palestine
if you have any questions or would like further resources then lmk or look for informational threads online !! be careful about certain news outlets because there’s a LOT of pro israel propaganda going around
there is a lot going on in our world right now—several active genocides. it’s important we educate ourselves as the ones who have the privilege to not experience the fear and trauma that millions of palestinians are going through and have to live with. if you think that sharing posts and speaking up about it on social media is fruitless then do remember that israel has cut off palestine’s internet for a REASON so please use your privilege and your voice to speak up about palestine!
note that this post is specific to palestine, but there are genocides happening in several countries as we speak and NO big news outlets are covering the horrors. free palestine, free sudan, free congo, free armenia, free tigray

Hello! My name is Summer, I am a minor so please don't be weird, I love making art of my original characters and characters from shows and movies! (also, fair warning, I do not have a consistent art style, and this blog is mostly a lot of reblogs so I'll be making an art blog pretty soon!) I'm black, I'm autistic and my pronouns are she/her/hers!
I have a Wattpad account but I haven't posted anything yet but I will eventually. When I do, I will also cross-post it here on Tumblr. I don't have an Ao3 account and no, I'm not getting one anytime soon. Nothing personal, though. I also have three other blogs:
My OC roleplay blog: @strawberry-tiger333

I still haven't posted anything on my writing blog but there are some drafts I have there. Same goes for my art blog.
I don't have one favorite type of food since there is a good variety that I like, same goes for beverages, I am currently mostly involved in the TMNT fandom (specifically Rise, 2012 and 2023), TOH, LMK, etc in the tags (also, this is not limited to them, Tumblr just has a tag limit-). Also, this blog is NOT spoiler-free, so be warned if I reblog/post any! I'll still tag them, though!

TYSK: Hey Buddy, you're on the news!!
🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞things you should know🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞
Tumblr media
Hey y'all, It's Bria again. I know I´ve been on a bit of an hiatus but I am back and hoping to build an audience and repertoire of essays and journalistic insights. I am an artist and in a state of growth and transformation. I've given myself time and am ready to grow again. So, this is my new segment THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW. I found difficulty in understanding my place in the world after the onslaught of attention brought to the Palestinian, Congolese, and Sundanese struggles. I wasn't sure what to do, but I found sharing information is always the most important thing you can do.
🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞things you should know🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞🗞
Insight: I find as the new Black and brown adults we have to find non-neo-fascist ways to teach our children discipline and composure. We have to teach them to want to learn and to want to be supported. We have to help them overstand, that you are not being subdued but elevated. How do we do this when we are suffering ourselves? Many of us are left struggling to differentiate between the auto policing of ourselves enforced by a childhood of strict ethnoreligious parents and white teachers/peers who misunderstood us. How do we liberate the children and our children from the same fate? How do we liberate ourselves?
2. News and Literature sources:
PLEASE, run don't walk -or scroll vigorously- to Haymarket books and pick up a copy of Light in Gaza: Writings Born of Fire. You can pick-up a free ebook copy or support these writers in their struggle and buy a physical copy.
I have fallen in love with the writer Candice Marie Benbow. She is a Christian theologian who wrote the book Red Lip Theology: For Church Girls Who've Considered Tithing to the Beauty Supply Store when Sunday Morning isn't Enough. This book is probably not for me, but I think it'd be a benefit for Black women experiencing the Black church and honoring their space in it. I have followed her on Twitter for a while, but I recently started watching her interviews and felt the need to share.
YOU SHOULD KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON IN PALESTINE. This is a genocide. Many news sources aren't picking it up and telling the true story of the suffering of the Palestinian people. the US is funding genocide and Israel is carrying it out. I will share more sources but @Wizard_Bisan1 and @Amotaz_azaiza are two young journalists on the ground sharing their experiences and bringing light to the truth. Please follow them and continue to uplift and share their stories. They are targeting journalists as over 90 have died during the over 2 months of violent attacks.
3. Art I´ve fallen in love with:
Back in October, I dated this wonderful person who put me on to so much Black Art History. It was nice to finally date a person with interest. Two names they gave were Kerry James Marshall and Mikelene Thomas. I found their names continue to come up for me. Here are two pieces that brought me an inner guidance of sorts.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amongst visual art pieces, I found a new love for ¨Pyramids¨ by Frank Ocean. I saw someone on TikTok try to explain it, and while they piqued my interest, I found their analysis to be lacking... in sense, and that's okay. We gotta blame Bush for that one. So, whichever you do, bust a move or throw a shoe, let us have a toast to an oldie but a goodie.
I found this poem on Warsaw Shire's Instagram -she has recently been shadow-banned- and I thought it was important to share this piece by Najwan Darwish.

4. Personal life update edition:
I recently moved out to LA. I've been fighting for my life trying to survive financially, but your girl just got 1.5 jobs. So, I soon will be doing great. If any of yall are from LA or know folks out here. Let's meet up or lmk where I can hang out. I stayed in the house. I tried to go to Beverly Hills last week. It was a 1.5-hour bus ride. Needless to say, I'm green as hell.
Thank yall so much for reading.

do you see the difference between 188 casualties and 10? the difference between a defense worth billions of dollars and one worth nothing? a dome that stops 90% of rockets vs absolutely nothing to stop airstrikes? between having bomb shelters and a place to go vs being completely trapped in territory that israel controls the borders to? and (this particular instance) started because of israel evicting palestians from their homes in east jerusalem! a territory that israel illegally occupies
ok, i don’t know if you want a genuine answer or just looking to start a fight, so i’ll answer this seriously and if you have more questions DM me and if you wanna start a fight lmk who you are so I can block you.
first, you got some facts mixed so lets get to that before we talk casualties.
Tumblr media
so, i’m not going to get into the state of the country through all the wars, we’ll just talk what was proposed to be the land in proposition 181 of the UN, which the UN accepting it cause the Independence war, and we’ll go over the way the country is divided rn.
So, the day the war started (Nov. 30th 1946) the country was divided the way you see in the first map. there weren’t a lot of Jews here until 1881 when the first wave of aliya happened, then the 2nd one started in 1904 when Hertzel died. the British mandate the ruled here favored the Palestinians over the Jews, because they were the majority when we first came here in waves, so they obviously had more land, and it was strategically smarter to side with them.
The previous day, the partition plan that is shown in the 2nd map was voted on and was passed with a majority. That plan is called proposition 181, or the partition plan. Israelis weren’t that thrilled about it because geographically the Israeli land wasn’t connected and Jerusalem was inside the Palestinian land while being under international jurisdiction, but it was better than nothing so we took it. Palestinians disapproved of it, and that started the war, which ended in 1949, a year after we got our independence on May 14th, 1948.
between ‘49 and 2000 the boarders moved a lot the wars, we took land, some we gave back during cease fire agreements and peace treaties and some we still have, but the last picture is the way it still is. The west bank is a bit tricky so let me explain it to you, it isn’t officially Israeli territory, we took over the area during one of the wars and the government refused to give it back during the cease fire so we ended up with this very weird and precarious solution, yes it isn’t legal but the government refused to relinquish control over it because they didn’t want whatever terror organization that was there at the time to be really close to the other boarder, they refused complete control because we took that land in a war, so here we are. The Jewish settlements there are part of area C, which is in full Israeli government and military control. You have area B, with Palestinian cities and villages (apart from Hevron that has both Jews and Palestinians), which is in Israeli military control and Palestinian Authority (PA) led. and area A which is fully controlled by PA and also only has Palestinians in it.
Now, this is all a very long way to explain to you, that while there are Muslims, Christians, Jews and other religious minorities in Jerusalem, excluding east Jerusalem, where it is under no official authority which is part of the problem, it is still under Israeli control and outside of the West Bank, just on the edge of it, but not in it. It doesn’t let the government permission to evacuate civilians out of their homes, by no means, but east Jerusalem is a problem area. Here’s a closer look at the map:
Tumblr media
As I mentioned earlier, the fact that the Israeli government has jurisdiction somewhere doesn’t give it the right to evacuate civilians from their homes. I think it was unnecessary and uncalled for and never should have happened.
Ok, now let’s talk casualties. first, you need to remember that Israel gives Gaza (well, more like Hamas) money. However, instead of using it for the civilians’ advantage and to take care of them, Hamas uses it to buy weapons to arm itself and for anti-Israel propaganda. Yes, the Palestinians in Gaza has it bad, but that’s not because Hamas doesn’t have money, trust me they get more than enough. It’s because Hamas doesn’t care about the civilians in Gaza.
Israel invests some of the defense budget to create better, more advanced means to protect ourselves and the people living in the country, that’s why since 2004 we have the “Tzeva Adom” (literally translates to Red Color) alerts, which are the rocket sirens alarms that lets us know to take shelter. The government invests in having bomb safe rooms. We have Iron Dome since 2014 (that summer protective edge happened and the system was put in use during it) for that same reason. We invest in our protection, and therefore our casualty numbers are lower.
Also, I would like to point out that a solid percentage of the rockets Hamas fires at us never even cross the boarder and land inside Gaza, which kills people.
When the IDF plans to have an airstrike on a building, because Hamas puts the rocket launchers inside homes, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, etc. the IDF calls every single person in the building hours before to let them know to evacuate. Hamas prevents them from evacuating. Which is how they end up with the high death toll.
But, and that is very important, just because our death toll is at 10, doesn’t make it ok. Those 10 people, one of them a 6 year old kid, should never have died. Those 188 people should never have died. The only acceptable death toll is 0.
Now, to your last point, that Palestinians are not allowed to cross the boarder. They are. Both in the West Bank and Gaza. In order to be allowed into the country the IDF first makes sure the individual has no ties to a terror organization or carrying explosives by going through metal detectors, but they are allowed into the country. However, if an Israeli Jew were to cross the boarder they would be killed. Either on the spot or tortured and then killed.
I would like to reiterate, I do not support, by any means, the evacuations of Palestinians in east Jerusalem. I think it was uncalled for and never should have happened. It was the direct cause to this escalation. I do, however, support Israel’s right to defend itself.
To put this simply, if Hamas were to lay down their weapons, there would be peace and the violence would stop. If Israel were to stop fighting, we would be wiped off the map. However, it isn’t as simple as that. and the narrative changes depends on where you start to tell the facts, which means, like I previously mentioned, there is no right side and wrong side. There is no clear cut good and evil.
However, you must understand that us Israelis, both Jews and Muslims, suffer from the actions of the Israeli government and Hamas. It isn’t us that are fighting, it is the leading bodies on each side of the boarder and the civilians suffer as a consequence of that.
Please make sure that when you talk about what we’re living through right now, you don’t blame Israel/Israelis, or Palestine/Palestinians. Make sure you blame those responsible, the Israeli government and Hamas.

Hey! So for a few days I will be resharing some Palestine related posts since I feel they are much more important than anything else I could share here.
If you come across them, please do give them a read and consider sharing!
If you’ve already come across them and given them a read, please don’t mind the spam!
If you come across them and are offended by them because you support the violent ethnic cleansing of Palestinians, please unfollow me and lmk so I can block you! I don’t want you to see my art and I don’t want it on your page! :)
Edit: Also!!! If you try to use this as an excuse to hate on Jews pls unfollow and tell me to block you too!!! No hate against any religion will be tolerated! Most Jews are not zionists and many are against the atrocities being committed by Israel! :)
