ace and aro books

went on a deep dive to find some aspec rep for myself and this is some of what i came up with. not official recommendations since i haven't read most of them, but they exist and i've put several of them on my own TBR list. these are all books i haven't seen on other rec lists, and i've done my best to confirm that the rep is aspec

if any of y'all have read these, feel free to share your thoughts or correct me if i've gotten something wrong

Since Tumblr spat some ace discourse onto my dash like it's 2014...

"Cishet aroace" is an oxymoron. If someone is both asexual and aromantic, they cannot be cisHET because they are neither heterosexual nor heteroromantic. They're not het so they're not cishet. Simple as.

Cishet asexuals can exist because they can still be cisgender and heteroromantic. Cishet aromantics can exist because they can still be cisgender and heterosexual. Cishet aces and cishet aros are real and can be referred to as such.

But there are no "cishet aroaces" because they're not het. If they're both asexual and aromantic, then they aren't attracted to the opposite gender in any way. And that's literally what the "het" in "cishet" means. It's short for "hetero." So you can't exclude aroaces from the LGBTQ+ community solely on the basis that they're cishet. You need to use an argument that doesn't hinge on aroaces being straight, because they're not.

I'm not saying that cishet aces or cishet aros are part of the LGBTQ+ community. I don't really care. I've yet to even encounter one, which makes me wonder if this discourse was ever really about them. The problem here is that people try to use the same argument for people who literally cannot be cishet.

Seeing posts about "cishet aroaces" following that "cishet aro man" poll is giving me psychic damage. Where is the "het" part coming from? You people literally made up a cishet aro to get mad at and then decided that everyone who is aro must also be cishet, even if they're also ace and therefore don't fit half of what that word means.

I've had people in my ask box on my main blog calling me cishet even though I'm openly an ace lesbian dating another girl. Again, where is the "het" part coming from? Does being ace magically make my attraction to other women straight?

Use your brains. Words have meanings, and "cishet" means "cis and het," not "anyone who is aro or ace, regardless of their other identities." Tumblr discourse has misused that word so much, I don't know how to refer to actual cishets without going out of my way to make it clear I mean actual cishets. It's so fucking annoying. You're changing the meaning of important terminology to make it fit whoever you want to exclude. I love this hellsite but sometimes I worry.

I wonder what they all think of people who are aroace/aromantic/asexual and if you don’t know what this is being aromantic is where you have no romantic feelings, or little to none being asexual it’s the same thing as a romantic way you have either little to none or zero sexual attraction to anyone like you can still think they’re pretty and they’re cool but you just don’t feel that kind of way about them though relationships would mostly be platonic which means immediate friend zoning or delayed one being aroace is basically a combination of the two where you either have little to none or zero of those emotions I recommend you watch the video Jaden animations made called being not straight if you want more information, cause she explained it a bit better, but mostly the same. (also for funses make it so that demons of lust can’t affect them at all like they can see them and stuff but they can’t make them like horny or anything . And let’s also say that they’re also kind of resistant to marks too because why not :) )

It's not the first time this has been brought up.

Ufortunately, knowing how abusive and horny the characters are here, you're shit out of luck. You'll get harrassed regardless of your orientation, because these monsters don't care, they've decided that you are theirs, and many of them will surrender to beastly impulses regarding your body. Asexual? Mm no, doesn't matter. Aromantic? Oh, don't make them laugh.

There already exist rules regarding how ace people are affected in this world. They're not resistant to marks of any sort, concubi magic will still work on them so long as they're not physically castrated. Naturally, the experience is ten times more uncomfortable for someone who is repulsed by these activities.

There is no happy ending for someone like that in these scenarios, you will get hurt a hundred fold.

Before Realising My AroAce Sexuality

I want to make one thing very clear before anyone starts reading. Though I identify as being asexual and aromantic, I can only talk about my own story because it is the only one I really understand. And I know that all of us have a different story. We all walk a different path. We all react differently to the obstacles placed in out way. But I can only talk about myself and how I, and some people I know who are also aro-ace, have been affected by their sexuality. I hope sharing my story, as well as my opinions and advice is of any use to you.

I also want all my readers to feel free about contacting me if they want their story to be published or simply understood, EVEN IF YOU AREN'T AROMANTIC OR ASEXUAL YOURSELVES. I will handle everything which any of you send me with the utmost discretion and to the word referring to your wishes.

I am a British demigirl teenager of 14 years of age who has been living in Spain since the young age of about 4 or 5. I am currently undergoing my freshman year of highschool. The presence of the doubt that I was asexual always dug at the back of my mind, but I liked to think I wasn't. I was SCARED: I didn't want to be lonely for the rest of my life. In fact, I was obsessed with the idea that I would find love eventually.

I realised I didn't like boys or men when I was about 10 or 11 years old. I simply did not feel romantically attracted by them at all. Yes, I found some boys attractive, and some actors too, but I found I was not able to form romantic attractions towards them. What's more, the people who I had previously 'liked' (obvoiusly I was like 11 so never anything truly serious) had always been very good friends of mine. Such close friends that our friendship almost seemed like the celibate and completely nonsexual relationships the popular kids were forming between each other.

I knew that gay people existed. I'd never been against it. From the moment I realised being gay was a THING, I'd supported it, even if I didn't feel that way myself.

So I went and thought: hmmm... I don't like guys. That must mean I like girls. Now, what girl do I like?

So I found a pretty girl, VERY popular (actually, I remember quite clearly her name was Inés). And I decided I had a crush on her.

Then, 7th grade, I changed schools. And I lost contact with all my friends (including Inés). I found a girl, a Russian called Maria, and decided I liked her. We dated, some months later. But we never DID anything. Max was holding hands or kissing each others cheeks. Then we broke up on rather bad terms., Even now, almost a year and a half later, we don't talk. I was in the same room as her for 15 mins and has an anxiety attack. I must admit, I hold a massive amount of trauma from that relationship still.

I had never made out with anyone and never really felt the need to, even though by 8th grade most of my friends had. I felt like I fancied another of my friends, Sarah, but when I confessed my feelings I got rejected. I was not too sore about it, surprisingly. I felt more like my pride was hurt than that my heart was broken.

And then, something magical happened.

In June of 2023, at 14 years of age, I watched Heartstopper in a day with a friend.

I fell in love with it.

And then, on the 3rd of August, when season 2 was released, I watched the entirety of it at night on my phone. And that was when I discovered asexuality.

As Barbie's girlfriend, can you settle the discourse on whether she's bisexual or aromantic or lesbian? I've seen so many takes.

Is there really discourse?? 😭 There shouldn't be! She's Barbie and it's just a movie. I am not the Official Person to ask for any "hey I think THIS is canon" but here's my personal headcanon just for fun:

My answer changes depending on the day and how I'm feeling. As someone who is a sapphic bisexual (possibly a lesbian if I really take the time to think about it but HAHA I won't spiral over THAT today, don't need an existential crisis right now, NO TIME FOR THAT), I might also be on the aromantic spectrum (or I might not be. it could just be the 'tism.), but I know for a fact I am asexual. SO, as a... my god what would you call me, an aroace WLW? I see Barbie as any of these things.

She -- and every single doll in BarbieLand -- is canonically asexual (expressed by Margot Robbie in multiple interviews). Now, she says it's "because they don't have reproductive organs", and we know this changes for Barbie at the end of the film. So, is she magically no longer asexual because of that logic? Who knows. You can be asexual but that's quite a spectrum. I am asexual but sex neutral, meaning I have zero sexual attraction but I am willing to sleep with my romantic partner if they desire it, and if I'm in the right headspace to do the work (since it's literally just All Work for me and not Feeling), and hey, maybe Barbie is asexual but sex neutral. Or sex repulsed. Or sex positive. Who knows!! When it comes to fiction, I feel 100% safe and comfortable exploring sexual feelings for my F/Os @beach-him-off-until-he-kens with art, fics, daydreaming, etc. Asexuality is a spectrum. Maybe Barbie is demisexual! Maybe she's ace! Or maybe when she's human, she isn't anymore. Who knows!!!

I can see Barbie as a lesbian because she had a male-identifying (I'm sorry if that's the incorrect phrase; feel free to correct me on that) doll quite literally CREATED to BE her love interest, that she had zero interest for (in the 2023 movie ofc, other iterations however are entirely a different story) but she was soooo loving with her girls, her Barbies. She could just be best friends with Barbies without any romantic attraction whatsoever, of course, but I remember a Margot/Ryan interview where Margot said "if Barbie were on a dating app, she'd have to be VERY CLEAR that her partner NEEDS to be okay with the fact that she needs her girls!! She loves her girls and NEEDS her girls nights" and yeah you could interpret that as "she's just best friends with girls" but as a queer person, I read it as queer. The lesbian-colored shirt Gloria was wearing, too... oh, honey, that cannot be a coincidence, there's no way they didn't know those were the lesbian pride colors. This movie was made with a few openly queer people (i.e. Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Hari Nef), for queer people, and possibly even by a few queer people. I would not rule out the possibility of Barbie being a lesbian.

I remember another Margot/Ryan interview where someone asked "people believe Barbie and Ken are queer, do you think that's true, can you confirm that" and of course they cannot just outright be Renee Rapp and say "YEAH MY CHARACTER IS 100% A LESBIAN" because these people have had media training SLDFJSDLFSDF. But I remember Margot and Greta have both said that BarbieLand is inclusive for queer people and they want EVERYONE to feel welcome there, that any dolls being queer there wouldn't be seen as "abnormal" like it is in our world, because BarbieLand is just... dolls. They don't face homophobia or transphobia or racism the way that we do in the real world, they don't even have a concept of that, they are quite literally not built for it. Somebody else can absolutely phrase this so much better than I can, but I hope what I'm saying makes even just a little bit of sense.

So anyway to answer your question, I personally see Barbie as a lesbian asexual, possibly somewhere on the aro spectrum, like a demiromantic ace lesbian, but I am open to her being literally anything at all. My answer changes every so often! Some days, I see her as a biromantic asexual, because who says she'd only be attracted to women just because she wasn't attracted to Ken? She could be attracted to any gender, and Ken just might not be her cup of tea, y'know? Some days I see her as aromantic asexual. Some days I just say she's WLW/queer and it doesn't have to be deeper than that. After all, she's Barbie, she's Everything, and Barbie Can Be Anything™.

Welcome!

About Me

Hi! I'm William, I also go by the name Willow and Will, use any of the above that you prefer. I will not reveal my age (except on accident if I accidentally date myself), asexual but bi-romantic and absolutely hyper fixated on the idea of love. I'm also neurodivergent (no clue where I lie on the spectrum but differently not normal) I do have ADD, and yes I do forget where I set things down. I have a deep interest in psychology and love meeting people who's brains are weird like mine!

My Interests

I have an absolute mess of interests, and they frequently change. Currently I am having a great time fixating on playing tennis, Minecraft, and acting. I am a stage performer who tends towards playing young boys or authoritarian rulers (weird, but that's theatre). I am also an aspiring blacksmith and engineer.

As far as Tv shows and other media, I am in love with all of Vivziepop's creations and absolutely adore hand drawn animation, especially when it is done by people with passion. I also like audio dramas such as Hannapocalypse, The Road of Shadows, and Midnight Burger.

My Projects and Posts

Currently I am leading work on an independently developed game called "Morti's Quest for Individuality" which is about an anthropomorphized mushroom that is separated from its colony and then has to learn what it means to exist as a singular entity. Along his journey he ends up creating his own colony which will lead to a final plot point. (Secret). It will be a two dimensional game that heavily features pixel art and dramatic story telling. If you are interested I may occasionally post art updates and (hopefully) a link to the beta at some point!

Additionally I am working on developing a TTRPG called "Hearthside Havoc" which is an adventuring game where you are always a commoner and never level up. The gimmick of the system is that death is always a real possibility and that the only way you improve is by acquiring better gear. Once I get it to the point it can be tested I may try to generate interest by posting about it here.

OKAY OKAY HERE

MY HOCUS POCUS HEADCANONS (about the Sanderson Sisters):

(I have to warn you, some of these are very specific in the sense that you might go ???? when reading them, but that’s on me and my autistic brain <3)

• First of all, the three of them are queer and neurodivergent because I am also queer and neurodivergent (also Sarah is so autistic coded actually).

Winifred is a transfem and aroace (probably straight), Mary is a cis ace lesbian and Sarah is a transfem non binary bisexual.

• Sarah smells like dirt (but like, in a petrichor kind of way y’know?), Mary smells like herbs and Winifred smells like smoke and the smell before a thunderstorm is about to happen.

• Sarah is left handed (like SJP <3) and Winifred and Mary are right handed.

• Mary has a second name and it’s Ann (like Kathy’s <3).

• The three of them have a mole on the palm of their right hand, same spot.

• I like to think that the three of them are actually redheads, only Mary has darker hair and Sarah dyes her hair (let’s. Let’s not get into the details of hair bleach back then shall we? Okay).

• Sarah learned Garden of Magic (aka Come Little Children as we all call it) from dreaming about the song for several years. She would find herself on the Forbidden Woods back again, this time alone, and she would hear the song from a distance. This dreams kept happening until she was 18.

• Mary is in charge of cutting everyone’s hair because she’s the most fit for this task. Winifred doesn’t have enough patience and Sarah is way too impulsive (she would definitely take the first sharp thing that she finds and call it a day no matter what the outcome is. It has happened before.)

• On that same note, Mary has a morning ritual of preparing a bath for herself with her favourite herbs and oils (and with bubbles too!!!) and relax for a bit. She also prepares baths for her sisters <3

• Mary is definitely the one that guides her sisters through modern times, considering she’s the one that grasps concepts faster. I like to think she accidentally found out about Hatsune Miku at some point and she showed her to her sisters.

• Oh, did I mention she would wear heelys? Yeah.

• Back to their neurodiversity for a moment. Both Sarah and Winnie canonically have ecolalia. Sarah’s manifests immediately (“AMOK, AMOK, AMOK”) while Winifred’s manifests when saying specific words (when she calls her sisters, or book. She always says it with the same intonation, which is one of the key points of ecolalia).

I do believe the three of them are autistic, and Sarah specifically has adhd as well. And they have stims and special interests:

Sarah mindlessly braids her hair and swings her arms. She fidgets with her rings when she’s upset. Her special interest is bugs (and how they taste), but specifically moths. She had pet moths at some point. (If you’ve seen that one comic I did of Sarah eating one of Winnie’s dresses… THIS is the explanation. She wanted to know what was all the fuss about).

Mary fidgets and flaps her hands, and chews her tongue as well. She also stims vocally. Her special interest is linguistics and literature (“You explained it beautifully, Winnie. I really liked the adventure part-“ and her getting words like “shis ka baby” or saying “cowabunga!”)

Winifred bites her lip, runs her tongue through her teeth or puts her hand on her face when she’s pensive. Her special interest is magic (obviously) and music. She assimilated I Put A Spell On You incredibly fast and she only heard it once.

• The three of them have perfect pitch.

• Winifred has insomnia. She sometimes wakes in the middle of the night (if she even falls asleep, that is) and tends to sit at the fireplace with a warm brew and Book. She either talks to him or studies the spells that lie within him.

• Because of her insomnia she also tends to toss and turn a lot, and even the smallest of disturbances can wake her up. Sarah, however, is the other way around. As soon as she falls asleep there’s no way to wake her up, not even if armageddon is happening. Mary is also a heavy sleeper, but if you insist a little bit she will wake up.

• Winifred is a spanish descendant. Like have you listened to her accent???? That’s exactly how I sound when I’m way too tired to make an effort on softening my accent.

• Winifred had to take care of her sisters from a very young age, considering their father died (and we don’t know anything about their mom but she’s most likely dead too, maybe giving birth to Sarah), which has its good and bad things.

One of the good things? Winifred inherited her father’s passion for storytelling (that’s why she’s such a great performer) and so she would tell bedtime stories to her sisters, especially when they were feeling gloomier than normal. She would let her sisters engage in the story, but only if Winifred asked them to. If any of them interrupted her she would get a little pissy about it.

As they got older and her sisters (especially Sarah) asked her to tell them a story, she would simply answer “Art thou not too old for that childish pastimes?”, but deep inside she has always missed it. Not only telling them stories, but just feeling safe enough to have such trivial moments with them.

• Mary is the one in charge of cooking, although Sarah is always helping her out. Winifred helps too but she’s more of a woman of chemistry with her potions and such.

• Sarah is an incredibly talented painter, but she doesn’t have the time nor the patience to sit and paint for long periods of time, so she just… doesn’t. However, when she does have time she enjoys painting sceneries (and secretly her sisters but she’s bringing that secret to the grave).

• Sarah is surprisingly book smart, specially about anatomy (both human and animal). She knows how any kind of anatomy works with such medical precision that it even surprises her sisters. She got that knowledge through doing autopsies (both to dead animals and... well, humans) when she was a kid (and older).

Name: Lilian (no last name, later adopted under the last name Gothel) Dorm:Ramshackle(NRC) Birthday:November 3(Scorpio) Age: 16 (first year) Homeland: The other world/magicless realm Signature spell Special ability:As someone from a world devoid of magic,she has none of her own. That is expected, but what is strange is that magic has no effect on her whatsoever. Once their body adapts to magic, this ability fades (starts about at the beginning of chapter 6), although she can still not do magic. Personnality:At first, she's a shy girl. They're brave, determined and selfless, but to the point where she's naive and reckless. They have no sense of self-preservation and often puts herself in danger for their friends. She's naturally a hard worker who will not complain. They're known to be a people pleaser. She's very oblivious to a lot of social situations(aka she can't tell if someone has a crush on her), but they do have an excellent problem detector. Appearance: 154 cm tall, straight brown hair in a bob with side bangs tied behind her head. Her roots and hair tips are golden yellow. Her eyes are big and round, holding some innocence in them. They're also sky blue. She's very thin with her womanly features not much developped. Their skin is full of scars after battling multiple overblots. She wears golden brown rectangular glasses with no upper frames and rounded edges.

Uncategorized Trivia 🌻Is in the newspaper club. 🌻She's aroace in a queerplatonic relationship with Malleus after chapter seven. Even though they are a cis girl, they use She/Her/They/Them pronouns. 🌻She's amnesic so has no memory of their past world except common knowledge (like what is a pizza). She only recalls their first name. 🌻Because of their origins, they struggle with identity a lot and often finds themselves in crisis because of it. For exemple, sometimes they look in the mirror and they have no face. 🌻Her best friends are Ace and Deuce. They are the closest to them by far, except maybe Grim and Malleus. 🌻After Chapter seven, she becomes the adopted daughter of Andric Gothel, NRC's nurse. 🌻To live more comfortably than with less than the bare minimum, Lilian works part-time at the Mystery Shop and grows vegetables in a small pots scattered across the Ramshackle kitchen. They often ask Ruggie for tips on how to survive with almost nothing. 🌻Is called Shrimpy by Floyd, Mademoiselle Tournesol by Rook, Herbivore by Leona and Child of a Man by Malleus. 🌻Fun fact:During the early stages of her character, she used glyphs to fight like Luz in the Owl House. 🌻Another fun fact: They're amnesic because at the time I was too lazy to make them a backstory. It is now an important of her characterization. 🌻Movie night at Ramshackle with Ace and Deuce every friday is a tradition. 🌻Their glasses are always covered in tape in hopes to repair them after getting broken during fights. 🌻Falls victim to Ace's deez nuts jokes way too often. 🌻As a nervous tic, she bites her nails a lot. Hello! I am willing to ramble about my WIPs in exchange for hearing about your WIPs!!

I actually have three right now, but I really only wanna talk about one or two of them right now.

One of them is called Call of Shadows and it's a fantasy/adventure duology that I'm really in love with.

The main concept is that a thief is hired to steal a magic object, but instead of finding an artifact finds the Crown Prince who has been thought to be dead for three years. Turns out he is being kept there against his will by his aunt, who took his place to be Queen. The Prince begs the thief to help him escape over the mountains in the east, and they reluctantly agree.

Along the way they are hunted by a mysterious, maybe-not-entirely-human entity known as the Huntsman, and they slowly begin to trust each other. Oh, and the Prince has shadow magic, which is really, really rare, and most people believe it's the result of dealings with demons in some way or another. Also, there's a magic slug named Squish involved.

Ultimately, it's a story about found family, and choosing what's best for yourself, even if that goes against what others expect from you. Oh, and the antagonist isn't evil. She's redeemable because you find out she never did anything that bad in the first place, not because someone forgives her despite her not deserving it, or because she's attractive, etc.

The Cast:

Dorian - The Prince, aroace, he/him [POV Character] Ashlin - The Thief, bi-romantic ace, she/they, probably has ADHD. [POV Character] Squish - Magic Slug, communicates via squeaks and chirps. Lenora - The Queen, lesbian, she/her, not actually evil [antagonist] Theo - The Healer, aroace, they/them, autistic, doesn't show up until book two yet is somehow still my fave. [Supporting Character] Calista - The Smuggler, bi, she/her, an old friend of Ashlin's [Supporting Character]

Ooh, you had me at the premise already, but the magic slug sealed the deal! I love the concept of characters with shadow magic not being villains or antagonists. It's underused, in my opinion, so I love that one of your main characters has it! And I'm so curious about the Huntsman, that name is so ominous. I'd totally buy this on an impulse if I came across it in a bookstore <3

The main WIP I'm currently working on does not have a title yet (I'm bad at those lol), but it's a paranormal thriller set in New England. It takes some inspiration from early seasons of Supernatural, but with a young adult cast (I'm actually hoping to introduce them either tonight or later this week, as I've mostly got them down).

The basic storyline is two siblings on a fall-break trip to their grandmother get stranded in a town called New Ellington, near the White Mountains, when their car breaks down. They get help from a mechanic's son, but the town isn't so willing to let them go just yet.

Amazing how you hear about violence aginest gay and trans people but i litterally cant find a single vetted article that shows violence aginest aro/ace pple for "aphobia". Like its always these excuses;

Aroaces face corrective rape! the "corrective rape" was not corrective and happend because the aroace person said no to sex and it was just mysogny because the aro/ace person was afab n would you look at that, the rapist was a cis man. Thats mysogny. Not to mention 80% of aro/ace people are cis women, trans men and afab nonbinary people aka the people raised litterally taught from birth that sex is not something for them to enjoy and they exist to please.

Doctors consider lack of sexual/romantic attraction to be a symptom instead of an orientation! Because lacking the desire for sex and relationships is a hallmark sign of trauma, abuse and mental illness. Its litterally symptom #1 to struggle with sex and commitment when your traumatized and ive litterally never met a not-traumatized aro/ace. I know this because im a traumatized aro/ace and no, "aphobia" isnt traumatic. Honestly, even if your aro/ace as a result of trauma, thats valid, just make sure your healing and that your honest about it.

Well, when i wore my ace pin, someone called me a queer! Thats a sign that me, being cisgender and heteroromantic asexual, am really queer! Experiencing misplaced oppression at the hands of homophobic and transphobic people dosent suddenly make you gay or trans. Also, they dont know what any of the flags mean so why tf would they care that you dont fuck unless its Tuesday? They just assume all little pins with a bunch of colored stripes mean child groomer gay pedo tranny, not demiaroace or wtf ever. They litterally only hate you because they assume you fuck the same gender or dont identify as ur brith sex. Thats it. It also dosent help that you go running around saying "im SOOO gay" and "im such a dirty little queer." When you are neither. When you say ur gay, they are gonna think ur gay. If they know ur cis and het and dont have sex, they dont give a fuck.

Well, your theory falls apart that aro/aceness is mostly brought on by trauma and mysogny when trans women, amab enbies and cis man aro/aces exist! Ok, you still havent disproven my point because 1. transfems and amab enbies usually have gender dysphoria which, speaking from my own experiences, complicates sex and makes it harder. Gender dysphoria is a mental illness and unless you bring to me 5 examples of cis het men who identify as aroace, you dont get to use them as a gotcha. Ive been gay for almost 10 years and ive still never met one, online or irl.

I also never stated that aro/aceness was purely brought on by trauma/mental illness and mysogny, its something that can just naturally happen. Ive just never seen it genuinely happen. Usually the person has trauma/mental illness or is afab or is trans or all three. All of these things, according to proven psychology, can affect the sex drive, attraction and desire for committed relationships.

Thats why every aro/ace you see is either really young and in pain, still healing from trauma or is older and admits to holding on out of spite or admit that its trauma related. There are always gonna be exceptions but unless those excepts make up more than 25% of a thing, im not considering it something totally stand alone. Its also why every ex-aro/ace carries the same story: they identified with it when they were younger and healing from some traumatic shit, they got older and got help, they healed and magically they werent adverse to sex and relationships. That dosent happen with gay pple or trans pple usually. Like 70% of today's aro/ace people are allo 5 years later. If not 5, then 90% by 10 yrs. If not 10, then 99% by 20 yrs.

Its not a coincidence. Adversity towards sex and relationships usually has a foot in the graves of social oppression, trauma/abuse and mental illness. Usually once someone feels empowered by their minority status, heals from their trauma and copes with their mental illnesses, they arnt aro/ace anymore. I speak from experience watching pple i knew when i was 13 go from traumatized and a "romance and sex repulsed" aroace transmasc nonbinary kid who hates allos and gags at sex scenes to being 20 and seeing them all just be ur average bisexual transmasc nonbinary person who kisses and fucks like everybody else. They might throw an arospec or acespec label in their like demi- or -flux but its usally just labels that mean that they are normal person who dosent fuck on sight or isnt always thinking about sex.

Im not saying that every incident of aro/aceness is a result of trauma/abuse, mental illness and bigotry but i am saying that coming to terms with that shit usually makes someone less aro/ace. Im also mentioning how many times ive seen aro/ace people throw out excuse after excuse and label after label that all boil down to telling someone to stop getting therapy and just identify as this because "all labels are vaild and inate to you. You'll always be this." Then they mob you when you get help and openly say your not aroace anymore and ur labled a "traitor" who "wasnt an actual aroace and is just a troll" cause you dare to talk about rhw toxicity and fandomization the aroace communities suffer from. I know this cause im aroace and i dont touch those communities with a 10ft pole. Aint happening. I see a person with a demigreyromantic pin and i turn the other way hopeing to got they didnt see my aro one cause i refuse to talk to pple like that.

The definitions of romance and sex are fluid for a reason and just because you think you dont fit the societal definition of a "average amount of sexual and romantic attraction" dosent mean ur right about society and dosent make you akiocupioangleddemiaroacefluxspike, i promise. All these bajillion labels fall apart the moment you mention that its completely natural for a human's desire for sex and romantic partnership is supposed to fluxuate over the course of your life and multiple things influence it. Im not opposed to microlabels and sexuality modifiers and other things people do in an attempt to find community with others who have the same experiences as them and i never have but what i am saying is that little shit like that dosent oppress you on a societal scale and never has and to think critically about yourself and others to understand that what your feeling isnt always the truth and emotions can betray you.

You arent always a trustworthy person and its always best to make long term decisions on a full stomache, a mid mood, in clean clothes and plenty of energy with enough time to be sure. Quick decisions can fuck you up and the amount of spite and toxicity coming from the aroace communities when you even so much as glance critically at them is worth a few months of deliberation before you go in full speed. Just dont come crying to the normal aroaces when you hit a brick wall 5 ft in and get bombarded with cishet sob stories of people who lost their partner cause they didnt disclose their aroace status, cupcakes and dragons, the gay dads kicked me out copypasta and a bajillion people claiming that their oppressed with their only sources being "trust me bro" and " how dare you question my experiences". If you arnt 100% informed, ur on a hundred blocklists just for mentioning that you dont like the ace flag or some meaningless shit like that.

Trust me, dont bother.

Another group of headcanons for the robot brothers, this’ll be part four I guess, with part one being here, and part two being here, and part three being here. there will be more of these since I think doing a ton in one massive post like the first set was a bit much to take in all at once.

Some general ones: This first one is because for some reason facebook keeps pushing 5 minute craft videos on me and whereas I have no interest in those I feel like Sunny would Absolutely LOVE those and try to do the majority of them.

So much so that eventually Moon would feel the need to stage an intervention to try and get him to chill out and not try to do every single one. With the new apartment the brothers have yes they have more space than the storage closet above the daycare but not all the room in the world for things like soap in the shape of seashells which being robots they wouldn’t even need, a number of others things or flowerpots made from decapitated baby-doll heads - really Sunny that last one is psychopath behavior do you need to talk to someone?

I’ve made little pics of these but Moon is an AroAce and will regularly try to get a hold of an archery set to make an “Arrow Ace” pun, And Sunny is gender-fluid and bi.

I might have gone over this in one of the previous posts but if not: Moony doesn’t really HAVE preferred pronouns. As long as someone isn’t being insulting he/she/they etc are all fine, they tend to see gender as this weird human-made thing created just to have an excuse to be nasty to someone else.

Sunny however DOES have preferred pronouns but they change. Some days are strictly he/him days, some are strictly she/her days and some are strictly they/them days. And then some days are similar to their sibling: doesn't matter as long as it's not insulting

This next one might be a bit silly but I’ve seen others give them kids either by adopting Gregory or robot babies being built and etc.

In the timeline/universe of Undertale the brothers are kidnapped to with monsters living on the surface allowing that magic to help bring creatures to life, much the way things are in Cuphead and Deltarune - the timeline where monsters were never sealed away, there ends up being a very young, orphaned flower-girl named Skylar "born", she's not biologically from one of the living monsters but from the abundance of magic in the air.

in a similar situation that had Violet and Cory finding Olivia, Sunrise is just, exploring a nearby park and his "there is a nearby upset child!" programming kicks in and he starts looking around and soon finds the small, vaguely humanoid scared plant-girl

Sunny carefully picks up the child and rushes to Cagney because that's one of the few plants he knows who's smart about plants and Cagney helps check her over to make sure she's ok but she pretty much keeps clinging to Sunny feeling safe around the tall robot. and one point while Cagney and Sunny are trying to find a safe place to take her, she starts falling asleep in Sunny's arms.

At some point says she's gunna take a nap, though how she says it is like "I'ma take a nap papa" and like, Sunny fuckin Freezes. This isn't the first time a child has accidentally called him that, but with no parents around claiming the child makes it hit different, and programming or not he's always Adored kids. so that is just "welp this one is mine now"

Later when going home Sunny pretty much calls "Moon! come meet your niece!"

"My What now?"

Moonrise being the type of uncle to make sure the child knows how to put someone in a choke-hold, how to stun someone with a throat-punch and teaches her how to use a flip knife

Despite Sunny wanting to know how Moon knows how to do Any of those things in the first place

Moonrise warms up to suddenly having a child live with the brothers pretty quickly, he WAS built for childcare after all. At some point giving her this far-too-big cloak, insisting a large flowy cloak is bad-ass and also insisting that if he’s going to suddenly have a niece all of a sudden she Needs something bad-ass

One more for this post: This one taking place while they still shared a body

When the two were annoyed or angry with each other but WERE still on speaking terms, they would still respond to the other's notes but would tape their reply either directly on their face, covering their eyes or in a very difficult to reach spot - depending on the level of annoyed/anger.

I think the interpretation of Sangwoo as being on the ace spectrum is interesting and could def be true. They changed his character a lot from the original manhwa. There I didn’t necessarily get that he wasn’t familiar with sexual attraction, he wasn’t a virgin for instance (idk about the show it wasn’t mentioned), instead his hesitance just came from homophobia. He was thrown off bc he was attracted to a man not bc he was experiencing attraction (that’s what the “error” was in the manhwa). Then Jaeyoung was the confident one who wasn’t scared of his feelings and had already hooked up with guys before and what not.

It seems obvious to me the show didn’t want to go down that route with Sangwoo and changed it to him being thrown off his routine in general, not specifically bc it’s a man he likes. Idk what the writers’ relationship with or knowledge about asexuality is so I can’t say whether it’s supposed to be the only interpretation of his character, but I think it makes sense. I think Sangwoo in the show was also just annoyed it was Jaeyoung specifically he liked bc Jaeyoung annoyed him at first, as soon as Sangwoo had the “oh” moment he wasn’t hesitant about his feelings for Jaeyoung for any internal reason. It was all external factors that made him hesitant to pursue the relationship, I didn’t really get the sense he was struggling with the attraction itself, which is different from the source material.

I can't speak of the comic as I haven't read it but for me the demi subtext feels pretty glaring. Seeing as replacing problematic tropes with progressive representation of queerness is something bl creators have done before in the recent past- Fujisaki in Cherry Magic being explicitly written as an aroace woman instead of being a fujoshi who shipped the guys, for example -I don't think it's a stretch to say the creators tweaked Sangwoo's issues with attraction.

The reason I am sure the subtext points at demisexuality is because Sangwoo explicitly states he doesn't believe in attraction, having not experienced it before. When he calls love propaganda it's clear that he genuinely doesn't believe that love and attraction are real things. Then when he feels sexual attraction towards Jaeyoung he googles "hormone imbalance" bc he thinks there's something physically wrong with his body. I'm someone who feels physical/sexual attraction pretty rarely so I can say with a good amount of certainty that feeling attracted to or aroused by someone when you're not used to feeling these types of attractions can be quite jarring and make you feel like there's something wrong. The fact that Sangwoo's mind jumps to this conclusion first shows he's entirely unused to feeling attraction. Furthermore, the show also alludes to Jaeyoung being the only one Sangwoo is attracted to as well. They make it clear in the text as well as subtext that Sangwoo has never felt these feelings for anyone before but also that him feeling them for Jaeyoung now doesn't mean that he will now be able to feel attracted to people in general. It has to be Jaeyoung.
