writing updates for this week :] (04/14/2024)

this week's writing is largely comprised of thoughts, brainstorms, and a few revisions to chapters 9 & 10.

here's a snippet from the upcoming ch 9 "boss babysitter"

in total, i wrote over 5600 words on the document!!

as i wrap up book 1, ive been thinking a lot about the structures of books 2 and 3. timing is key to me bc this is slowburn after all. but aaaaaaa its just as painful (/pos) to write slowburn as it is to read it....

ive also been thinking about zekes journey up to heart hollow, pa. what he's seen, where he's been, what brought him to the resort, yadda yadda yadda.... and so my brain continues to flesh out things that will probably never be brought up in the main narrative

ive been deeply considering cherry and zeke's friendship. theres a pretty pivotal chapter in book 2 that touches on this, and i want to make sure i grasp it right. i wrote a big dialogue chunk down in my notebook.... i cant wait to write this episode !!! its been part of my arc list since the very beginning. eeeeek

aaughh ive been laboring over chapter 11's details. lots of research, lots of planning. there are....... so many moving pieces. im a little intimidated but i think itll be an excellent challenge. some stuff abt lewis gets dropped this chapter. thats all ill say.

added and tweaked chapter 10 a lot. this is the one thats been killing me... its going to end up being longer than ch9. fuck me for writing 30+ page chapters ig. (again.... slowburn is so painful but good god that slow dopamine release is therapeutic asf)

made some final revisions to ch9 "boss babysitter". i think i understand now why ive been so hesitant on posting it; a few more things needed to be added before the books finale..... i........ dont mean to cause alarm, but as soon as im done drawing the promotional artwork............ i think im ready to post it.

thats all for the week. monday starts tomorrow and i only have one task i have to accomplish. will probably work on ch10 and finish up the promo comic for ch9 "boss babysitter" :]

oh god i dont even knowwwww ;-; i mostly just pick and choose from theories ive seen other ppl post about honestly.

ig im most interested in who Alastor made a deal with. obv everyone assumed its Lilith, cuz of the "7 years" thing matching up, but i've also seen people mention a character named Roo, whom i think they found in old hazbin art?? but idk how viable they are, considering we dont even know if they'll appear in the show. also with the Eve theories (that i am VERY vaguely familiar with) maybe it could also be her that he made a deal with?? (and i do want to see Eve play SOME sort of role in the story, since so far she was just mentioned off-handedly) or some completely separate entity, hard to say.

i kinda wish its not Lilith, since i think having his deal be a separate storyline from whatever is going on with Lilith and the deal that SHE made would be more interesting? oh ive also seen a lot of people mention La Sirene, an entity related to Voodoo/Vudou, and how she might be tied to Al and Lilith alike.

personally im mostly enjoying theories/lore tidbits about Alastor and his mother. idk how much of what ive seen is canon and how much is just fans' interpretation, but im pretty sure his mother is canonically in heaven. the idea that Alastor (a dude that canonically is a mama's boy) is separated from his mother by literal heaven and hell is... well it has a lot of potential imo. she definitely is important to him, since apparently she is the reason he always smiles.

i also dont know if they plan on redeeming Alastor??? it kinda seems like there might be no way back for him, nor does he seem interested in changing anyway. so far most characters at the hotel displayed at least a capacity for change and he just doesnt give a fuck (valid). on top of that i dont even know if i would wanna see what his potential "redemption arc" might be. i guess they can always give him a more detailed backstory (and i'd love to see a glimpse of his life on earth, i love the idea of a radio show host turned serial killer, and the way that he died is legit so cool to me) and they could rely on his relationship with his mother as a gateway to redemption? the idea that the only way they can reunite is for him to change and become "good", abandoning the things that (while obv morally reprehensible) have come to define who he is as a person (demon?).

like i enjoy the idea of seeing a more... i guess honest and vulnerable side to him, but at the same time i dont want to "babygirlify" him too much and make him a sad poor boy who is just so so sad and please pity him. i very much do enjoy the idea of a fucked up dude enjoying being fucked up and evil. but also on top of that i like the idea that he's not completely heartless, that he loves his mother and is capable of caring for people despite everything. and also i wanna see what led him to yk... become a killer in the first place. i have to imagine he didnt just wake up one day with homicidal tendencies, plus its more interesting to see how he BECAME something, and not just be told "he is this because YES" (for example i saw some stuff about his father being horrible and also being the first person he'd ever killed but idk if thats canon or not sooo).

anyway not so much theories as me ranting about Alastor and stuff. im not much of a theorist. but thank u for the question anyway ghost ^-^

hello! i apologize for kind of disappearing, my fic rec account has kind of blown up and ive been super busy with that.

this is my entry for @sweetlygolden 's Harry On Holiday Challenge! i chose strangers in the same city, and the line prompt “That is the worst sunburn I’ve ever seen.” i honestly already have a part 2 planned out but we'll see how it goes!

“How much longer are you going to stare at that pretending like it’s interesting.”

Her soft voice surprised him, and he whipped his head around to see who had been speaking to him.

For the first time in a while, Harry was able to get away for a little. Of course, he travels a lot for work, but this was the first vacation since he can remember where he was alone, doing whatever he pleases. He chose Italy for this special occasion, because it’s always been one of his favorite places, and he missed the freedom of wandering around the boot shaped country without a care in the world.

The day's adventures had brought him to La Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, which is a museum that he's been wanting to see for quite some time. He started the day off by getting a cappuccino and a crespelle from a wonderful little cafe down the street from his hotel.

Right afterwards he walked to the museum, taking in the sights around him on the 20 minute trek to his destination. Before the woman behind him snatched his attention, he was staring at a painting of an abstract house. The house was only painted in blue, and the artist had used the different shades and tones of the color to create the details in the painting.

He had been staring at it for a good amount of time, which he assumed is what prompted the stranger to talk to him.

It’s his 3rd day on the trip, leaving him 4 more until he has to be back in L.A. for work. He has no plans, no schedules, no job to do. It’s just him and the world. At least, that’s what he assumed it would be. The vacation is supposed to be a solo one, however, he’s currently staring at a stranger that decided to speak to him. And for some reason, he is drawn to her. Compelled to spend time with her after just a simple sentence was spoken between the two of them.

When he fully turns around she jumped, a bit startled by his bright red complexion. “That is the worst sunburn I have ever seen!”

It was true, Harry had managed to get himself a nasty burn on the first day in Italy. He usually tans instead of getting a sunburn, but when you’re used to the dreary weather of the UK, it can be hard to forget how strong the sun is in other places.

So he had laid out on the beach and fell asleep, waking up a few hours later with tomato red skin and a burning sensation covering the exposed skin.

“That’s what happens when y’fall asleep on a beach in Rome,” he chuckled, smiling awkwardly at the woman before him.

She’s beautiful, there is absolutely no denying that. She was wearing a simple spaghetti-strap black dress that cut off right at the knee. There were no designs, no embellishments, just a black dress that hugged her figure perfectly. Her lips have a deep red lipstick smeared across them, and he couldn’t help but notice how the color complimented her skin tone. Her simple black pumps completed the outfit, and her hair was tied back in a loose ponytail, with a few of the front strands falling out of the hair tie and framing her face.

“I’d assume so.” Her demeanor is serious, even though there's a smile on her face. She’s…..intimidating?

Harry hasn’t been intimidated by anything since he was a teenager. Once you perform in front of thousands of screaming people, who also happen to idolize you, things don’t tend to phase a person anymore.

But for some reason, her presence caused butterflies to fly around in his stomach, a feeling he hasn’t felt in a long time. He actually enjoyed the feeling, it reminded him of when everything was normal.

What also reminded him of normality was the fact that she seems to not have the slightest clue of who he is. If she does, she’s sure as hell good at hiding it.

“You’ve been looking at the same painting for 10 minutes, just wanted to make sure you hadn’t fallen asleep.” A small laugh escaped her lips, and the noise agitated the fluttering butterflies residing in his tummy. Her voice is mesmerizing, and she sounds like what Harry imagines an angel to sound like. She has an American accent, and it eased his nerves slightly that she was also a tourist.

He turned back to the painting to look at it, but it was also convenient in that she wouldn’t be able to see his undoubtedly flushed cheeks.

“Yeah m’not sure what it is ‘bout it but there’s somethin’ special with this one.”

“That’s Prismi lunari by Fortunato Depero, he was very talented.” Harry spun around once again to face her, shocked at her knowledge of the random artwork.

“You know that off of the top of your head?” He tilts his head and looks at her, furrowing his brows in confusion. He’s pretty sure there was no label for the painting, and if there was it was way too small for her to see from where she’s standing.

“I know a lot of things.”

The statement was simple, but Harry wondered if her words paired with the smirk on her face are code for something else. “How long have you been here?” Her question snapped him out of his thoughts, and he looked up at her and smiled. He flicks his wrist and directs his attention to it, reading the Gucci watch adorning his wrist.

“Well I got here at 11, so about 5 hours.” It honestly surprised him when he realized it was 4 o’clock, but he knows how wrapped up he gets in artwork so he must have lost track of time.

“Jesus christ! I can barely stand to walk around a museum for an hour!” She blows out a puff of air, mocking being out of breath. They both laugh at her comment, Harry laughing a bit harder than her. “What’s your name?”

“Oh! M’Harry, s’nice to meet you.” He stuck out his ring-clad hand, and her delicate fingers wrapped around his as she shook it.

“Well Harry, wanna get out of here and walk around with someone who knows the city?” She points at herself, and the small smile she gave him earlier transformed into a silly grin.

“Well m’not sure how well an American can know the city, but I’ll bite.” Usually he would never do this. Going off with strangers is never a good idea, especially because of his status. But there’s something about the girl that makes Harry feel safe. They had just met yet he feels like he could trust her with things he hasn’t even told his best friends.

“An American who’s been living here for a year, that is.” His eyebrows raise slightly, intrigued by her new admission. But before he can even open his mouth to speak, she grabs his wrist with her daintily manicured hand and whisks him out of the quiet museum.

The air was humid, quickly drawing beads of sweat from his forehead. He’s also quite baffled at how she was completely unphased. Not a single drop of sweat was dripping on her body, her soft skin untouched like an old porcelain doll, preserved for years in perfect condition.

“I’ll show you around a little, we can go to this wonderful little vintage store I know.” She had turned to face him, her hand moving from his wrist to cup his one hand in both of hers. “Um- at least, if you want to.” For the first time, she was nervous. Although she will never admit it, Harry makes her extremely nervous. Extremely.

When he turned around when they first met, her jump of surprise wasn’t just because of his bright sunburn. In fact, it wasn’t about that at all. It was about how fucking attractive he is. He really looks like one of the statues that was put up in the museum. His sparkling green eyes send a shiver down her spine, and the tattoos peaking through his thin white t-shirt cause a fire to build in her stomach.

Having someone to talk too while he traversed the streets of Rome is a lot more enjoyable than Harry had anticipated. He purposefully told all of his friends that he was going to be MIA while on this trip. But the fact that she is a stranger changes it in some way, in a good way.

The cobblestone streets are surprisingly smooth, and they walk next to each other in a comfortable silence for a long amount of time. The silence would only break when she would point out something in their field of vision. At one point, Harry pauses, standing still in the middle of the street with a thinking look on his face. He realizes that he doesn’t know her name, which seems ridiculous to him because they were walking around a foreign country like the best of friends. She turns to him, matching his confused look when they lock eyes. “I just realized I don’t know y’name.”

Instead of reacting like he would expect one to react when asked that question, her pupils dilated and for some reason she appears to be scared. Why would someone be scared when you ask for their name?

‘Maybe she thinks her name is embarrassing’ Harry thought, still looking at her with a confused look, but now it was laced with a bit of suspicion.

He watches her sigh, and her hand went up to her ponytail and pulled the black elastic out, her soft hair cascading down her shoulders. With another sigh she said, “Y/N. My names Y/N.”

“That’s a really beautiful name.”

“Oh! There’s the store!”

He found it odd that she was so eager to switch the subject, but goes along with it nonetheless.

The vintage store is lovely, and Harry was able to find a beautiful ring and necklace set, matching gold roses on both of them. They looked around the shop for about 15 minutes, Harry being the only one to make a purchase.

The sun had set by the time they went outside, which isn’t surprising considering that it was almost dark when they walked into the little shop. They stood, facing each other outside of this small little shop in Rome. Two strangers, who just happened to cross each other's path. Harry knows this won’t last forever, and he also knows that he wants to see her again. In a leap of faith, he pulls the gold necklace out of the small brown bag and looks up at her.

“Here, I got them so we could match.” It was bold, but Harry feels connected to this girl, and he doesn’t know it, but she feels the exact same. The smile she gave him when he handed her the necklace was bright and genuine, the creases next to her eyes proving its authenticity. He motioned for her to turn around, wrapping the necklace around her neck and clasping it while she held up her hair.

“Thank you Harry. This is the best day I’ve had in a while.”

“Likewise.”

“I hate to do this, but I have to go. Have a wonderful rest of your trip Harry.”

It was then that she placed a small, tender peck on his lips, barely lingering for a second before pulling away.

“Wait! Can I get y’number?” Her smile slanted into a smirk, and she pulled a small card and a pen out of her small black clutch. She placed the card up against the brick wall, leaning it against it and scribbling something down on the paper. When she finished writing, she pressed her lips against the card, handing it to Harry.

He looked down at it, expecting to see a series of numbers, but he was met with a simple note, scribbled on the piece of cardstock next to the red lip print she had left.

He looked up frantically, planning to ask her to write her number down as well, but he was met with nothing.

She had disappeared into the night, leaving as quickly as she appeared earlier that day.

okay so theyre doing it. escaping to go home with maven! bonding moment ahead, i can feel it.

oh wait cal is coming with them? aaaaand weve got ourselves an obligatory awkward moment where the protagonist catches one of the guys bare-chested™. sigh. well whatever. girls be thirsty ig. lets point out how hes got a bruise near his heart?? is he okay?? i suppose he is but ouch.

cal. cal, you adorable man. what are you so nervous about?

oh wait so maven asked cal to help mare go to her home. ohhhhh. that makes sense.

cal obviously thinks its a bad idea but mare takes no shit. she wants to go home. so cal agrees. i should mention how adorably funny mares excitement is. like a toddler lmao.

maven isnt coming :(

But just because he isn’t coming doesn’t mean I will forget what he’s done for me already.

…but this mightve been immediately regressed as soon as she saw the war armor. and also the books on war tactics- i wanna point out they are written in a language called “Common” of norta, the lakelanders and piedmont?? -but back to mare, shes clearly Not In Board with this. she sees the war as the lives of many reds being lost for the silvers benefit.

its also implied that cal was expecting to play chess with maven. im pretty sure its chess.

she catches a glance at scars on his back. he keeps them despite having access to healers to tend to them. this is interesting. since he is shown to be the type to see past his own glamorous life and privilege, im guessing he keeps them as a reminder of his peoples suffering. maybe hes trying to connect with the people he knows little to nothing about, and thats why he also sneaks out pretending to be red.

they leave, and cal leads her to a… basement storage room. im genuinely confused why are there weird metal shapes that move in here. mare is suddenly passive-aggressively complainig about his huge armor closet. i get that shes mad at how close hes to the whole war tactic planning but… its not like hes got much choice is it.

he responds honestly saying he doesnt want to wear armor when he bring her to her family as to not make them feel threatened i suppose?

“[…] We don’t want your family getting the wrong idea, do we?”

“What idea do we want them to get? I don’t think I’m exactly allowed to introduce you properly.

mares got a good point. honestly i just assumed they were gonna have a walk around the stilts and see her acquaintances and loved ones from afar. wouldnt going to her home and talking to her parent require a plan or an explanation that isnt “ive been betrothed to one of the princes because they found out i have powers. oh yeah, i have powers! neat huh? so as i was saying, ill have to pretend to be a princess for the rest of my life and this might be the last time i get to see you all.”

oh ok so theyll pretend they took mare in to work for the royals like at the beginning and cal will be her ride. oh yeah cal has a motorbike which is cool as shit. but also… if this werent a fantasy universe this would look hella cliché.

he built it- yeah ok that is pretty damn awesome.

mare hesitates at first but obviously gives in and puts the helmet on. she wants to go home, damnit.

she got so nervous she held onto him so hard he had to pry her off. and i mean, its her first time on a bike obviously shed be pretty scared.

also she missed his warmth as soon as she let go. makes sense that shed be at least a little touch starved. aw.

mare takes the chance to ask him, in her own way (making remarks about how often he does this and all), why he wants to hang out in red bars rather than his luxurious palace. he comments that hes going to be king one day and doesnt get to be selfish. mare points out the king should be the only one who does. and it mqkes sense cause thats how she sees it. the only way shes known how to live is stealing and risking her life. and shes seen the silvers get everything they need and want. it has frustrated her understandably.

cal finally answers. the king should know his people. yeah i called it. makes sense! he wants to empathize with them. hes doing what he can. hes trying to be a good leader. to see what the world is like instead of being told how it is by everyone else.

“[…] My father does everything he can to keep us safe, and so will I.”

“My world is already in ruin,” […] “Your father keeps your people safe, not mine.”

ouch. but true.

cal tells her that it would cost them they alliance to other kingdoms. that theyd be tron apart by them. which… makes sense. but mare believes its possible to make it better. that norta could be the start.

the conversation dies as they make it to her home. cal waits outside bc he noticed how nervous mare was, the sweetheart, but she tells him to join anyway. they go in she and wakes up his brothers bree and tramy first. mom and dad join in as they notice whats going on. everyone is happy to seer her. well. gisa only pokes her head out. and wheres shade??

they congratulate her on getting a job, and comment that the story for the brothers discharge and their full pension was a lottery they won.

Up above us, Gisa scoffs. […] “Yes, we’re very lucky,”

poor girl. shes lost her hand for all these things to happen. it feels more like a trade than actual luck to her. she gives mare the cold shoulder and asks about cal. which is a bit hurtful but… fair, from her point of view.

dad know hes not from around there. cal quickly makes up a story of how hes from harbor bay and changes his accent which i gotta admit, good quick thinking! he comments how the servants travel a lot, which prompts her mom to be horrified. mare remarks that its good money. i mean its definitely better than stealing, from their point of view mares doing an honest attempt at working.

bree is suspicious and makes a comment about liking kilorn better. lmao.

oh fuck. is shade dead???

“He tried to run away. He was executed. Beheaded.”

holy shit. dude. things are getting real.

mare is so angry shes making lightbulbs buzz. guess the act is about be up.

she makes a mess, cal cant get to her and everyone already knows. mare angry because they found out shade was in the scarlet guard. and yeah, thats more likely. before she looses herself completely, though, kilorn comes in. he snaps her out of it.

but obviously the bug secret is out. and at first kilorn think it was the silvers doing, but she tells him its just her. he acts like shes a complete stranger despite her family clearly stating that she is red. cmon dude, shes going through a lot and you decide to pull that?

“Give me a knife and I’ll settle this right now,” I say, glaring back at him. “I’ll show you what color I bleed.”

she clearly means it, dude, stop that.

she explains everything. leaving out mr jacos’ findings, bc cal is there. she points out she doesnt know if theyll ever understand how or why she is the way she is. and i mean yeah, its one hell of an exception. she breaks the “rules”.

cal pretends to be a bodyguard now, and tells her its time to go. her whole family thankfully agrees to keep the secret, but kilorns fucking mad for some reason.

mare and cal leave, and he tries to comfort her about shade, but shes so close to loosing it she stops him, saying she needs to make one last stop.

its to wills!! she goes there to tell him everything, but he already knows somehow??

oh, some dude named tristan, also from the guard told him. shit, wills got some acquaintances, doesnt he?

tristan nearly bolts when he learns one of the princes is outside. of course he would! killing or kidnapping a prince? holy shit! he calls her a silver for “protecting him” but mare points out that cals pretty damn good at defending himself using his fire.

she makes her reason for presence there clear: shades dead because of the guard and she wants to use her princess privilege to help the cause. nice, short and sweet. and absolutely perfect to kick in some plot.

she shakes hands with will and seals the deal. shes in deep now. and im a delighted by finally seeing what i came in for.

so yeah, she goes back with cal thinking abt how theyre enemies now. and how weird it is that theyre both so nice to her. him and maven. i also wonder why. they both grew up surrounded by people that hate reds. how are they so tolerant?

when theyre about to leave on the sick motorbike ohmygod kilorn shows up. he better be here to say sorry.

no, hes just here to be sad about mare leaving. i mean of course he is. they were besties. he wants her to stay. cal has to step in to intimidate him just slightly to let go. im glad he didnt have to do anything too harsh. and that he tried to keep his composure as best as possible.

“You bargained for me too, to save me from conscription,”

yeah! so understand shits not cheap!

and as they leave kilorn says hell tell farley she said hello. oh god hes gonna join the guard too.

mid-year book freak out tag

ty for the tag @bloody-wonder! time to rant about books ayy

1. Best Book You've Read So Far in 2021?

It has to be This Is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. Loved everything about it, the style the story (even if it did take me a while to understand what was going on) the characters the absolute yearning it was just. perfect.

But also The King’s Men by Nora Sakavic for a lot of reasons I still don’t really know how to put into words? I still need some time to process this series ig

2. Best Sequel You've Read So Far in 2021?

The Golden Yarn by Cornelia Funke, I’ve waited so long to read this and finally (fINALLY!) I did and it did not disappoint. The worldbuilding was just fantastic, loved how the mirror world geography/political asset was based on early 8th century history I’m so weak for this. Also I just,,, missed the mess that is Jacob Reckless so much my boy my precious son give him some fucking rest.

(And ofc honourable mention part 2 The Raven King by Nora Sakavic this book really was a gut punch)

3. New Release You Haven't Read Yet, But Want To?

The Silver Tracks by Cornelia Funke, I’ve been waiting for this book for like 5? years now? I just need to read this if only the English translation came out sooner hhhhhh

4. Most Anticipated Release For Second Half of 2021?

Leviathan Falls by James S.A. Corey which I’m also dreading cause it’s the last book of this series and I Do Not Want It To End I’m so not ready for it I know it’ll be so painful and I will cry and I am so worried for specifically One Character cause his story took A Turn already and I Am Fear.

Also Aristotle and Dante Dive Into the Waters of the World by Benjamin Alire Sáenz cause I was not expecting a sequel this year but !!!!! love those boys can’t wait to read about them again njhknjkhk

5. Biggest Disappointment?

Time’s Convert by Deborah Harkness, it did have good parts tbh but overall it was just Not Great. It was very slow paced and flat all around? I wanted Marcus’ backstory and I mean yeah its there but,,, Phoebe’s story was just so boring I liked her in the main trilogy and was interested when the book started with her POV but then she just,,, idk she could’ve been a great character with a new perspective on vampires but she just felt like Bella Swan 2.0 and I am not a fan. Also this book was just unnecessary long, the story was stretched out and went on for way more than it should have

6. Biggest Surprise?

Oh for sure All For the Game series by Nora Sakavic. I started it thinking “oh a fun and light read” but I was a fOOL I was Not expecting,,, anything? that’s in the series? went in thinking it was just another YA about sports and gays and maybe a bit trashy and got suckerpunched with mafia wars, the most sane and healthy relationship I’ve ever seen, great consent and boundaries talk, ace rep??? actually good ace rep?? best trauma handling ive seen in ages, got an existential crisis, started and solved a sexuality crisis (and sort ofa gender crisis i didn't know i had?), a few more personal realisations and honestly just,,, came out of it a complete and utter mess I finished it in April and I am still not over it I literally cannot physically start any other book I just keep going back to this series and its characters I,,, damn Nora

7. Favourite New Author?

I guess it’s pretty fair to say Nora Sakavic at this point

10. Book That Made You Cry?

Well of course All For the Game by Nora Sakavic was a rollercoaster I cried a lot for lots of different reasons I do talk about other things besides aftg usually I’m just having a moment ok but also The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid had me in tears, especially reading Harry’s part was,,, a lot. I had a feeling something was going to happen with/to him and then I read the subtitle for his chapter and. i just started crying and didn’t stop it was. yeah.

Also! Didnt make me happy exactly (it was v painful) but I had the most fun reading The Maze Runner series by James Dashner after I put it off for so long (2021 is the year I’m catching up to YAs apparently) and it was just. you know when you read something and think “this author really did not have a plan uh”? That’s TMZ. I feel like Dashner wrote the first book and had this great idea about this maze and it’s brilliant honestly the first book is great but then,,, well he had to write two more right? And he had to get them out of the maze. And that’s when he realised he had to actually think about what was out of the maze, do some actual worldbuilding and fix his plot holes. And he Was Not Prepared For That. At All. like plot holes aside, some choices were just,,, why. Like the scene where Thomas is in that cafe and security goes “there’s an infected everyone evacuate”?? that’s nOT HOW YOU HANDLE AN AIRBORNE VIRUS JAMES (reading this during lockdown truly was an experience)

fern: i am the host and i dunno how long ive actually been the host. 2, maybe 3 years?? there may have been overlap with valerie for a hot minute bcus like, we're identical, but i think val now holds memories of the Hell Period that he formed in and doesnt come out much anymore. also the memories i feel the strongest connection to are from our young childhood so....???? i could potentially be one of the "originals" im not entirely sure.

spamton: he can turn into his neo and ex forms at will in the headspace! also most comfy around bannton (our blue addison). they share a room but their relationship is exclusively platonic. spam's a bit high-strung and types exactly how he speaks in our head which is pretty similar to his source, phrases often being replaced with various ad excerpts or other notable phrases the body has seen/heard throughout our life. ever since our dental surgery he's dealt with a bad stutter too, similar effect to hallucinations we experienced under the laughing gas. it's been getting better tho!

dusk: funney guy here to cause a little mischief. this system shares one brain cell and he definitely does not hold it. loves cats, has wings similar to his persona arsene in his source. showed up in like april and we have not known peace since. (jk hes super sweet and rlly likes the walten files i give him a headpat)

midi: another lil mischief maker but also like. a breath of fresh air in the system! its only mood is :] and types in all caps like spam. loves eyeburning colors and late 90s/early 2000s tech. likes the ENA series by joel g a lot. epitome of webcore. vocal stims the most when nobody's home and has one of the more unique voices when talking as itself out loud

sylv: absolutely the brain cell holder, i think they split primarily to help us navigate tasks after we ran away from our parents to a friend's house for a year. often fronted for laundry, cooking, cleaning, making phone calls, and doing online schoolwork. we hit rly bad burnout by the end of the year though and we dropped back out of school the next semester, but honestly after like 5 months straight of doing so much i think we and especially sylv needed a rest. and also proper therapy. we still need proper therapy bcus our current therapist is shit. ANYWAY sylv decided to base themself off an oc i'd recently made at the time who's a gnc as fuck psychiatrist and ig that's what our brain decided we needed as sorta a parent figure in the headspace? also i think they were the one who helped us finally realize "bro ur a system"

allow me to rant about the only thing that has been in my brain for the past two months and that is doll customizing babeyyyyy

i know there’s a 90% chance that you wont give a Shit about any of this but here we go anyways

SO first you gotta choose a doll. preferably one with a high range of motion to avoid creating new joints or having annoying limitations like not having elbow joints for some fucking reason. what the fuck mattel. give monster high dolls back their ball jointed shoulders and elbow joints. smh

the most common dolls ive seen used as bases are monster high and ever after high. most customs ive seen are highly stylized so the stylized face molds work well for those types of dolls but dolls like barbies are good for when you want a more realistic face-ups.

once you’ve got your base picked out you gotta wipe that bitch’s face off with like. acetone or nail polish remover or something strong like that. you can also use acetone to shrink doll heads which is cool as hell imo. n e way once the face is wiped you gotta chop off the hair and remove the hair plugs from the inside. ive seen this done several ways but the easiest and most common way ive seen is to dunk the head into boiling water for ~30 seconds until it gets squishy and malleable. once you’ve got the head back, you can use pliers (i think tweezers would work in a pinch) to pull out the hair plugs which are kinda icky because theyre covered in glue and other gross shit. ew

now you must decapitate the doll. dunk em back in the boiling water to soften them back up then just tug the head off. the neck pegs look funky and are usually a different color than the body so thats cool ig

once the head’s off, you can start the face-up which is basically just giving the doll a new face using stuff like watercolor pencils, acrylic paint, gouache, and a whole lot of other stuff. hell ive seen people use person makeup on these dolls.

next,,,,, hair. there’s about twenty million ways to do hair from gluing yarn wefts to sewing to rerooting with purchased nylon doll hair or yarn wefts but i’m gonna talk about the most common one ive seen which is rerooting and gluing.

before you can reroot, you need doll hair. which, as i mentioned, can be bought at stores like the doll planet or made at home with yarn in literally any color. have fun with it! make rainbow hair or something idk

to make homemade wefts, you take some acrylic yarn, cut it twice as long as you want the hair to be (keep in mind you can cut and style the hair once it’s been rerooted), fold them in half, and tie it to something sturdy like a wire coat hanger for the next step.

once you’ve got your yarn tied to your hanger, use a pet brush and brush the yarn until it’s wispy and looks like hair. then take a straightening iron and iron the weft flat. then remove from the hanger and boom. hair wefts. ta-da

to reroot the wefts onto the head, use a rerooting tool (which can be as simple as a needle with the eye cut at angle) (just google it please i’m shit at descriptions)) to poke small sections of the hair into the head. you can use the pre-existing rooting holes for your own reroot as they’re usually pretty reliable. to reroot, take a small length of you doll hair (about 10-15 strands), loop it in half, and put the middle of the loop into the reroot tool. poke the end of the tool with the hair on it into the pre-existing hole and remove the tool. the hair *should* stay in and fill up that plug!! also remember to plug thickly at the hairline and part of the hair where it's most noticeable. it doesnt matter as much in the center of the head as that’s not usually visible on the doll. once you’ve rerooted, squeeze in strong glue through the neck hole and squish around the head to make sure it covers all the plugs and secures them in place. then pour hot water onto the head to make the hair lay flat for styling later.

also, you can reroot yarn directly into the head to make thicker, more textured hairstyles. and since the yarn is thicker, you dont need to glue the inside of the head for the hair to stay in place!!

if youre not doing body modifications (which are also cool as hell) then it’s time for clothes but clothes are boring and i like body mods more so i’m gonna rant about them instead

the material ive seen most doll artists use is apoxie sculpt, which is like play doh on steroids. it comes in two parts which you gotta mix together for some reason. why dont they sell it pre-mixed. what was the reason. also once it’s dry it’s super super strong and you can sand it, drill into it, paint it, and all kinds of stuff. very nice and i want some for myself.

you can use hand saws and drills and shit to whack off doll limbs to make stuff like digitigrade legs or new joints. also dont be afraid to use other mismatching doll parts when customizing like heads and bodies and forearms and hands and shit. it literally does not matter if youre gonna recolor the doll anyways so have fun with it. make frankenstein’s doll if youre feeling spicy

accessories my beloved. stuff like tiny beads and clay baubles and shit will literally transform the entire doll plus they’re adorable and multi-purpose

i suppose i must talk about clothes now. ah well. you can find great clothing patterns if youre new to customizing on other customizer’s etsy shops and probably google although those will probably be lower quality than paid pattern pieces. and keep in mind that if it exists as clothing irl, you can likely make it doll-sized. there are literally no limits to your clothing options as long as you can execute your idea.

the once all your components have been made, you can assemble the doll again!! and finally see what all the parts look like together!! very cool 10/10 stars.

ight that wraps up my doll rant. i could really go into more detail on certain parts but thats a whole other rant for a whole other day smh. sorry for fucking flooding your inbox ender ahaha……………. you asked for this

little did you know that dolls have been one of my favorite things since like ever. if i can read a 25 chapter long fanfic i can read this B)

mattel definitely fucked up by completely ruining MH doll designs and just stopping EAH, alot of their profits most likely came from people who collect and customize dolls and by changing MH doll designs/Stopping EAH dolls they 1. most likely lost a small (or big if we're not jus talking people who customize dolls) part of their profit and 2. made it harder for doll customizers to make dolls/get commissions out rather quickly because they probably have to waste more time making joints or learning how to make joints.

EAH/MH dolls (specifically MH dolls) had AMAZING MODELS because there was so much variety with height, face shapes, etc (my favorite molds had to be the short/tall dolls and the cat molds because of the tails) and doll customizers really went all out with enhancing a molds unique features. The only "downside" abt MH dolls is that they (or atleast most)(from what i remember)) had slimmer faces but wider eyes while EAH dolls have wider faces with slimmer smaller which left a canvas for the face and not the eyes (and vice versa for MH dolls)

I've never seen any videos where a barbie is customized (maybe because i absolutely despised barbies at the time) so I'll definitely have to check those out but they seem to be good for realistic makeovers. I've seen like like semi realistic makeovers for EAH/MH dolls that were pretty good too tho (pretty sure mostly EAH dolls since yk MH dolls were used for creature makeovers while most EAH dolls weren't)

yeah i was always amazed by the head shrinking with acetone. honestly i still am?? idunno i have no idea how that chemical bullshit works. Ive seen a few of uh makeovers that just pain over the face (in multiple layers ofcourse) but that's usually when they're painting the entire body a different colour (again usually when they're turning a doll into a funky little baby man). I've also seen a few that just chop the hair off and take out the hair plugs yk without uuh like softening the head or just go straight for the hair plugs after taking off the head (i used to do that it was funny to me??). i always really liked when they used watercolour pencils or just colour pencils in general to draw/sketch on the face cause like wow ur drawing on ur doll without ruining it?? kinda epic maybe even poggers and pogchamp?? oh god my brain is failing wjshsmsj.

Watching them putting the hair back on the doll was, other than the face stuff, was the BEST part for me. Favorite type of hair was iuuuuuh was either thick yarn or brushed out yarn. Literally worship the people that would reroot the hair, theyre the most patience people on this earth!! it's literally insane but i guess that's what happens when you've been doing that for years? you guess kinda get used to it. when they put glue into the head does it just become stiff?? like it's just a clump of dried glue or does it like..hollow out again??

dude you literally cannot convince me most of the supplies used for doll makeovers. APOXIE CLAY LOOKS SO FECKING GOOD. its edible and i will die on that hill. The body mods are literally so amazing!!!!! it's so impressive how theyre able to imagine certain features THEN LIKE ACTUALLY MAKE IT LOOK ACCURATE TO WHAT THEY WANTED TO LOOK LIKE AFTER LIKE ON TRY (or many yk trial and error is very necessary for..everything). Absolutely loved when doll customizers would saw off a dolls legs and use different ones or just completely get rid of the torso to use a different one. it's like uuh that one big guy that's mismatched and sewn together. very cool. The accessories are so fun!! just small little details you seen really need but can add because it's your feckin doll!! I used to be absolutely obsessed over the doll clothes i would find on etsy, so much so that i started sewing shitty shirts and dresses for my uh "customized" dolls (they were absolute HORRORS idk WHY my mom let me feck up my dolls like that).

here is my spree review (warning it will have spoilers)

on letterboxd i gave it a solid 3.5 stars because i think it’s good! not great not horrible but good. obviously joe’s performance is what makes the movie. if it were someone less talented playing kurt, the whole thing would fall apart and be fucking insufferable so thank god for our king. he had a really important balance of like....cringey and scary but also occasionally human, esp in scenes with his dad (which were so fucking funny i love watching him be a bitch). my main beef with the movie is actually how great of a character kurt is in comparison to nearly everyone else. it makes it tragically noticable when you have joe absolutely Selling us on a very realistic portrayal of a desperate attention seeking young white dude and then a revolving cast of very unrealistic caricatures entering his car.

this is kind of nitpicky but for a movie that’s About social media, there are a lot of parts where i really questioned the writers/directors/etc grasp on social media. first of all. im pretty sure it showed jessie having 177k followers? that is truly not that many skldjfsdf and social media influencers who do comedy in LA do Not get recognized on the street or like sell out popular clubs three weeks in advance im fairly certain. also i think they overestimated how many people would be typing like “lmfao” in a livestream chat as people are murdered. again i know this is nitpicky but i think if youre gonna base your entire movie off the behavior caused by social media, you should be Certain you know what you’re talking about. also if i went to a comedy set and the comedian just ranted about social media for 2 minutes, smashed their phone, and left i would be so pissed slkdfjsdf

that being said though, ive seen a lot of reviews saying this movie is about like “the danger of wanting to document your every move” and i dont think thats what its about at all? the movie isnt saying all social media is evil and just by using it a lot youre being poisoned or whatever, its saying social media rewards cruelty. kurt’s main model for how to become successful on social media is bobby, who pranks homeless people and says slurs. for the entire night he’s trying to get bobby’s approval and he figures killing people is the kind of content that gets rewarded. and he does get rewarded! the movie isnt saying “yeah if you use instagram you’re a brainless sheep” it’s saying “if you care so much about online approval that you’re willing to be cruel to achieve that, you need to re-evaluate that shit” and it’s based on the most extreme examples of that irl, like the paul brothers. and i know i just said there are a lot of moments that reveal a lack of understanding about social media, but there are also some moments that do really nail it. specifically the part where kurt says “racism is so toxic”

there are also problems with the pacing obviously, specifically in the last half hour, and some of the writing started getting really heavy-handed. i never really found it scary? just creepy in some parts. they really shied away from most of the murders and the only one i thought was even close to scary was bobby’s, which sucks because it takes away some of the impact when the murders happen off screen and the narrative moves on immediately. i think its way more funny than scary and thats like 98% joe’s delivery. and again the character so easily couldve flopped but that’s the magic of joe keery baby! i laughed out loud many times.

final observation: what does it MEAN that they purposefully tried to make kurt look greasy and poorly styled but by the end of the movie he was just straight up hot again. joe cant be contained ig!

watched clone high a few days ago after seeing it everywhere

n having to put up with this much JFK thirsting all over my feed

like this summer was enough to dry everyone up and apparantly that guy is the cartoon equivalent of a fresh glass of water with a couple of ice cubes floating at the top ig his eyes could be these two ice cubes n seeing the lack of brain of that guy the rest is just water.. yea makes sense right? ofc does cause its the only explanation to make this himbo a sexy tumblr man nyway i havent watched all the episodes yet maybe 11 out of 13? doesnt really matter ive seen a bit of character development alrdy i can tell that the art is pretty damn simple n like the backgrounds? theyre sometimes just colors n objects wtf is up with that i mean we get it we see can imagine the scene its just very minimalistic which fits the designs of the characters.

but yea artwise its a big 6/10 not bad not good its uninteresting tbh but different from the uninteresting of nowadays cartoons and it has its 2000s charm along with it tho idc about this one the characters growth? mentionned above, it does happen the relationships etc too but idc 6/10 its chill to watch but gets boring overtime aint invested enough 6/10

basically this show is overrated asf and everyone is just invested in JFKs ass or abes philosophy also abe sucks but cloé sucks more my favourite character is the underrated mister B, like there are these two antagonists and they are underestimated asf i think mister B and the director deserves their own show you can ditch lincoln tbh and jon darc too she sucks theyre just a buncha loser teens chad mister B,

ig after seeing how lame most of the characters are i can see how the fandom has resorted to abort JFK as their main interest cause at least hes obviously stupid and doesnt act as if he wasnt, i mean maybe sometimes but his design shows the depth of his reflexion and thoughts it shows how dumb he is, i can respect that

i am doing both bc Fuck Yeah but ofc under the cut bc of that bc this is kind of Very needlessly long even w/me omitting a section for both of them.,

Igneous:-favorite thing about them: this is. Difficult bc i do actually like a majority of the things about him but ig to keep it simple i will just say his design is good albeit tacky (tho thats why its good tbh..) also the fact that hes a knight is umm.😳

-least favorite thing about them: genuinely dislike if not hate how they wrote him for pretty much all of the nuuma arc cause they had no business suddenly reducing him to just making an unnecessary amt of failed attempts at romance when that was only just barely a part of his character beforehand, but more specifically any of the scenes hes in in ep 36 just downright fucking suck and Thats On That, (sadly)

-favorite line: i do not have a specific line for this but anyways near the start of like, i think its ep 24 or somewhere in that area, after he and hunter finished a round against each other and then like right after that he goes to the side and starts talking to magma abt how they both think hunter has been coming along very well lately in his training and are generally proud of him? that was a very good scene……

-brOTP: this also has an honorable mention for being the otp response but im not rlly as personally invested in it but anyways. igneous/slate dynamic good which is kind of the obvious response but. what else am i supposed to say its just straight up canon ajgsdjahdkj.

-OTP: im sure this goes w/out saying considering who we r talking to but anyways him and magma r boyfriends thats the rules

EVERGLOW "Dun Dun" Thoughts

The song is honestly a bop. It was stuck in my head first listen, heck Yiren's part (and you know what I'm talking abt cause she only HAD one part- we'll get there) was stuck in my head after hearing the previews.

Yiren's line would fit so well with KARD's Dumb Litty:

"We go dumb dumb dumb dumb (Dun ×?)...."

I sometimes sing "we go dun dun Dun Dun," and it's hard to get outta my head so...

Besides the absolute bop (bops ig since Gfriend served as well) that was this song, it didn't seem to be getting that much appreciation or love as it should be.

And it's mainly because of Mia. Before I begin, please NO ONE send hate to Mia. I've seen ppl say Mia had too many lines and that could make their company decrease Mia's lines from the whole song + a dance break to 2 lines and Im sure none of us want that.

Obviously the line distribution in this song was fucked up. Mia sang most of the song. And her dance break??? I mean, queen slayed but isn't that a bit much for ONE member when Onda got the SAME 3 LINES OVER AND OVER AGAIN??

Same with Yiren. Also can we talk abt the power that maknae has, like her part is EASILY my fav and going down in everglows iconic lines list.

Sihyeon is our vocal queen and I feel like she didn't get to showcase it at ALL. Please give that beautiful soul more lines to sing with her beautiful voice. PLEASE! Sure she may not be as stable as Mia but who gives a fuck abt stability when music shows and award shows play the backtrack so loudly you can't hear the fucking artist even if they want to be heard! (Oof I'm rambling again..)

E:U and Aisha, our rappers, got their share of lines because their rappers, so I honestly don't have much to complain abt with that. Also those girls SERVED looks, especially Aisha. Black hair and blue eyes never fail to impress me.

The choreo was amazing too, I can't describe how much I already like to watch EVERGLOW perform, and this choreo feels like they have more freedom to move around, idk why, it's just a feeling.

talking abt EVERGLOW performing, no.1 I think they're VERY underappreciated performers. Also I think their company gave Mia the most screen time and lines and time for the camera to pan to her is BC of her stage presence. Mia is an OUTSTANDING performer and imo one of my faves of pre-4th gen (you'll get it if you watch angelina). I mean, have you seen her facial expressions when she's performing? Just...what an icon! It's one of the reasons she became my bias, deservingly so.

My rating for the song? 7/10. Adiós kind of lost it for me after a while and Dun Dun is too fresh to say it can never be old or stay in my head like Bon Bon Chocolat. I don't think I'll have much to say on the whole album atm bc i listened to it all once (not including the title track of course). No Lie's chorus is stuck in my head (but honetly i wish one of the others would have sang the no lie part instead of Mia because she sings 70% of this album and that aint a good look. The line distrubution is my other problem but otherwise I think the choreo, performances so far and the song is great!

((Also none of the outfits stood out to me except for Aisha's with the blue coat thing? (Sry, i don't fashion) now that i think abt it , it was pretty mediocre, I think she just pulled it off really well because she has this aura and look of being the badass bitch.))

do you use sarcasm a lot? - not as much as i used to because it can come across as mean sometimes, but i do use it

what's the first thing you notice about someone? - probably outfit? face wise idk probably makeup if they're wearing it, or piercings. when it's not about looks, then the way they talk to people. cause ive met some pretty rude people at uni and you can always tell by how they address everyone else

what's your eye colour? - simply just v light blue. its the one thing i like about my appearance even tho it's p boring and common

scary movie or happy ending? - oooooo i l o v e a good scary movie (scary stories to tell in the dark is a good one if you haven't seen it yet) but overall id have to say a happy ending

special talents? - i wouldn't say i really have any? i can write pretty well apparently tho so ig that (my ao3 is schreibenzi, not to shamelessly plug it or anything lmao)

where were you born? - hull in england, live just outside of it in a small village now, (and huddersfield for uni lmao) but go back very regularly

what are your hobbies? - is it bad my first thought was video games and mobile games n stuff? i really miss dragon age inquisition rn so that'll be why. writing too of course, and sometimes digital art cause even tho i can't really draw all that well, im good at the painting bit

do you have any pets? - yup! a big ol poodle called pepe, he's huge and silly and i would die for him, and a chubby* cat called smokie who i would also die for even though he prefers grass to me. oh and two tortoises that live in my great grans room

*it's just fur, don't worry hes nice and healthy! just got a lot of fluff

what sports do you/have you played? - i mean ive played plenty of sports in highschool (hockey, baseball, netball, basketball, etc. rugby was the personal fave cause i wasn't too bad) but since then nothing ://// i don't feel comfortable with them lmao

how tall are you? - somewhere between 5'4 and 5'5. i both hate it and love it

favourite subject in school? - gcse was history for definite, idk what it was before then probably german or english, but i absolutely loved history and was really fucking good at it. a level at the time was sociology cause i was, once again, really good at it (even tho i seemingly bombed my exams which makes no sense. should have sent them to be remarked lmao) but looking back probably classical civilisations as a subject because it was a mix of history and english lit, two things i still love, even now as im doing a degree in a hhs subject

dream job? - i want to help people. i will say the same thing every time. i don't care what my job is so long as at the end of it, i can look back and see people thriving and know that i used whatever means i could to get them there. people who are doing no wrong don't deserve to be treated as though they are, just for existing.

well. that was a lot for only a few questions. im used to doing these things on my sideblog, but that's p much dead so hello guess im using this one more now.
