the indigo milky (also called blue lactarius, indigo milk cap or blue milk mushroom) is a mycorrhizal mushroom in the family russulaceae. this mushroom is found across the US, mexico, china, india, costa rica & guatemala. it is famous for its blue, milk-like latex that seeps out when the gills are sliced !!
the big question : can i bite it?? yeah<3 this fungus is edible.

l. indigo description :
"the cap of the fruit body, measuring between 5–15 cm (2.0–5.9 in) in diameter, is initially convex & later develops a central depression; in age it becomes even more deeply depressed, becoming somewhat funnel-shaped as the edge of the cap lifts upward. the cap surface is indigo blue when fresh, but fades to a paler grayish- or silvery-blue, sometimes with greenish splotches. it is often zonate: marked with concentric lines that form alternating pale & darker zones, & the cap may have dark blue spots, especially towards the edge. young caps are sticky to the touch. the flesh is pallid to bluish in color, slowly turning greenish after being exposed to air; its taste is mild to slightly acrid. the flesh of the entire mushroom is brittle. the latex exuded from injured tissue is indigo blue, & stains the wounded tissue greenish."

"thank you for the request !! i really love this one, but will likely never seen it in person. ^^" very beautiful mushroom."

Lactarius indigo
also known as the indigo milk cap, the blue milk mushroom and indigo milky.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It grows in North America, East Asia, and Central America. It also grows naturally in southern France!
Due to being a member of the lactarius genus it produces latex or “milk” when cut. The latex produced is indigo hence the name.
The species is however noted for not producing as much latex as other members of its genus.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lactarius indigo is edible and reported to have a mild taste.
It is also one of my favourite mushrooms!

[PART 1] PART 2
The sequel no one asked for, but I decided to write anyway. (Technically one person did sort of ask, but still.) I'm just excited I'm writing again at all, to be honest. Feedback appreciated ❤
Rating: T
The visit from the sergeant gnawed on Flo's mind throughout the day. She had long since learned to ignore painful memories, but for some reason the concerned eyes of the sergeant kept festering her thoughts no matter what she did.
"People are scared."
Her mind wandered while her hands worked the menial tasks around the house. The ash storm a few days ago had left a dark gray cover on most of her garden and she used a small brush to clean the roses. They needed all the sunlight they could get when winter was on its way.
A graverobbing, she thought while she worked. She could understand the sergeant's concern. So many things were off about the scenario. Why Old Man Thompson? A renowned figure in town, buried in a prime spot with a lot of grieving family... It was almost like someone wanted the attention more than the body.
Still tending to the roses, Flo heard a distinct crow call coming from the woods. The murder occupying the trees around her house replied in kind, some flapping their wings in greeting. Flo didn't smile – she rarely did – but the side of her mouth twitched.
"Two visitors in one day," she said aloud and brushed the ash off her hands, leaving gray handprints on her charcoal trousers. She turned to see Dina Deadeye walking out of the thick forest, quiet as a shadow. "Must be my– what in hells' damnation are you wearing?"
Even after living here for decades and trying to adapt to the local society as much as possible, neither Flo nor Dina had quite managed to shake the habit of wearing dark clothing. Not jet black like some kind of wannabe cultist, but gray or green or navy to blend into the night. Quiet clothes, in both senses of the words. Not too tight and not too loose, and never demanding attention.
Now Dina strolled up towards Flo's house, bold as daylight, wearing the cool indigo of a-
"A Watchman's uniform," Dina replied to Flo's initial question like she was talking about the weather.
"Why are you wearing a Watchman's uniform?"
"Joined the Watch." The low stone fence surrounding Flo's house was no match to Dina's long legs and she crossed straight over without bothering with the gate. Her milky eyes settled on Flo and her face cracked in a skull-like grin, making the white of her eyes and teeth glow against her almost black skin. "That glare doesn't work on me, Flo Crowe. Not like on the Sarge. Heard he stopped by earlier. Not the worst thing to lay your eyes on first thing in the morning, eh?"
Like the aforementioned sergeant, Flo didn't fall for diversions either. She ignored Dina's exaggerated wink and spat: "When in spirits did you join the Watch?"
Smile fading, Dina settled against the trunk of the rotting apple tree in Flo's garden. "Last night. After I came back from here."
"You joined the Watch in the middle of the night?"
Dina shrugged, sharp shoulders rising to the sky. "Called the Night Watch for a reason." She grinned again and threw her arms out. "What do you think? I look good, eh?"
To the untrained eye, Dina might have seemed bony. The right word was lean. Lithe and sinewy muscles, a tall slender frame, and a beautiful symmetric face only marred by the unnatural white of her eyes. They called her Dina Deadeye because the misty veil over her pupils reminded people of the eyes of the dead. Flo knew Dina took great pleasure in the appropriate nickname.
Now Dina had dressed in the traditional garb of the Watchmen. Black boots, indigo trousers, and a smart coat in the same color. Gleaming buttons all the way up to her throat, the same color as the buckle of her pistol belt where two revolvers hung on either side of her hip. The queer-looking cap covered her hair, which Flo knew was tightly braided against her scalp.
"You look good in a uniform," Flo agreed eventually, not acknowledging the increased grin on Dina's face. "Why did you join the Watch?"
She shrugged again. "Someone's gotta watch the Watchmen."
"And you had to watch it from the inside? Don't lie to me, Adinah."
"Fine, fine," Dina held her hands up in surrender. "I just missed having someone giving me orders."
"That's rich considering you never followed them." Flo bit her tongue from saying more and knelt down to the roses again, turning her back to Dina. But even if she tried, the words came rattling out like broken teeth after a bar fight. "And by the way, everyone watches the Watchmen. That's the whole point. Their primary function is literally to be present in town so people know they're there and that there are consequences if they break the law. So since you're now a Watchman, everyone's gonna be watching you."
Silence rang in the small yard while Flo swept the brush over the rose petals. Harder strokes than before, but her whole body felt stiff and uncomfortable.
"People see the uniform and not the person," Dina said eventually, but the playful tone had gone. Her starched new jacket rustled when she, if Flo knew her right, stuffed both hands inside the pockets. "I don't like this graverobbing business, Flo."
Flo's hands froze over one of the white roses – every vein visible in the almost see-through petals – before she recovered. "No one likes graverobbing, Dina. But it's not our business."
"Are you sure?"
This time she didn't miss a beat. "Of course I'm sure."
"Okay. What else than a 'mancer could have taken the body?"
"Scavengers always get bold right before winter."
"Animals don't use crowbars, Flo."
"Scavengers aren't always animals, Dina. There are some strange people out there, you know? Cannibals. Werewolves."
"Werewolves went extinct ages ago, everyone knows that. And what cannibal eats rotten flesh?"
"The Northerns eat rotten fish all the damned time."
"Some would argue that fish aren't people."
"Tell that to the mermaids."
"Don't joke about that, you know how I feel about mermaids. If only they were real..." Dina said wistfully and sighed. Her tone flattened quickly though. "Come back to town with me and just take a look."
"No."
"Please."
Flo looked up into the misty eyes of her friend -- some would argue her only friend -- and it didn't take long before Dina shrugged with exaggeration.
"Worth a shot," she mumbled sheepishly. They had known each other for a long time and Flo could not remember the last time Dina had used the word please for anything. "But I'm serious. I got a bad feeling about this. So does the Sarge and if nothing else, I trust his instincts."
"Then why do you need me?"
"Because instincts and experience are two different things. And I didn't say I trust him. Not a lot. Not like I trust you, at least."
Something dawned on Flo and she sighed, one of the few mannerisms she hadn't forgotten. People talk, he'd said. Yeah, people talked. "What did you tell him to make him come see me?"
"Nothing."
It did not take too long before Dina crumbled.
"Nothing specific, I mean."
"Dina–"
"Just that," another rustle of clothes from Dina shrugging, "you knew about this kind of stuff. That you could be of assistance."
"Have you lost your mind?"
"What?"
"We're in hiding, Dina!" Flo rose to her full height – which aggravatingly only reached Dina's chin – and let a scatter of ash drop from her hands. She swept her disdainful eyes over Dina's uniform. "Or have you forgotten?"
Dina's jaw muscles tightened, but she did not cower like many others would. "We can help, Flo. You can help."
"Of course I can't! And why would I even want to? This is not our business."
"Then we'll make it our business! You don't think disappearing corpses from our town is something to worry about?"
Something lodged in Flo's throat. Something hard and unyielding. She could not have gotten a word out if she tried, and she was honestly at loss for words anyway, and could only stare at her friend. Her friend, who apparently realized her mistake immediately.
"I didn't mean our town," she explained hurriedly, like she hadn't just said those exact words. "I meant– I mean... Listen, I know Southgate isn't our town, but like it or not, it's where we live. Don't you at least want to know if there is a necromancer operati–"
"It's not a damned necromancer!"
A few spooked crows flushed from the trees at Flo's loud hollow-voiced shout. Their flapping punctuated the silence that followed where Flo struggled to unclench her hands. Dina's blank eyes stared back at her, with no expression discernable on her face. A soldier's gaze, giving away nothing, but taking in everything.
"We've been here fifty years, Flo." Her voice was as cool as the winter breeze. "Fifty years since we went into hiding. And we've done a good job of it, you better than me."
Flo's voice shook. "And?"
"And I don't think your reputation precedes you anymore."
The words cut like nails into bleeding flesh.
"Fifty years is nothing," Flo spat, even if her mind raced with scenarios and options and ways she could take Dina down. Fifty years had only barely dulled the razor-sharp edge of her warlike nature. So many emotions forgotten over time, but not anger. Never anger. Her hands flexed and she forced herself to take a step back to get out of Dina's face. She whispered hoarsely, noting how Dina had not even flinched: "A blink of an eye."
"The world forgets even if you don't." Dina swallowed thickly and looked to the side. "Even if we don't. This is trouble, Flo."
Flo still struggled to get control of her thoughts and stared at the white roses. White roses that she grew and cared for. Her white roses. White, as the blank expanse of Dina's eyes. "Let the Watchmen handle it."
"I'm trying," Dina said, and pushed off from the tree. She started doing up her coat, deft fingers more used to triggers than buttons. "Come back to the cemetery with me. That's all I ask. The townspeople are scared."
Flo shook her head, not daring to look away from the roses. Her white roses. That she grew and cared for. "What have the townspeople ever done for us?"
"Left us alone," Dina said simply and turned to walk away. "Which is all that we asked for and more than we deserve."

Feel It After Midnight
Tumblr media
gif cred
content warning: smut, oral, scissoring, femslash, drinking
summary: Ouma and Saihara get home from a Halloween party and - in Ouma's words - have "crazy lesbian sex".
word count: 2.5k
here it is on ao3
Saihara is watching the way Ouma is pressing up against her, the smaller girl’s body warm and firm against her front side. Ouma is dressed so scandalously and smells so intoxicating that the navy hair colored girl has to hold back her urges to touch and feel and hold with a pained smile when the other looks up at her.
“It’s Halloween! I’m allowed to dress sluttier than usual!”
That had been the excuse she gave when Saihara questioned her about the black and white corset tied tightly around her petite frame. The long, dark cape she wore covered most of the exposed skin she was showing, but the dramatic sways and moves she made with her arms made it easy for anyone to see the black fishnet stockings accentuating her thin pale thighs beneath the white tule skirt. Saihara wondered to herself how Ouma could possibly bear to still be standing on her feet when her thigh-high boots must have been killing her them.
“Get out of your head and get me another drink!” Ouma shouts suddenly, pulling her taller friend’s head out of her own thoughts.
The blue-haired girl was moving before she could even fully comprehend the order given to her. She makes her way into the kitchen of the house party Ouma has dragged her to against her will and fills yet another cup with alcohol. After the smaller female also downs that one in no time, Saihara finally puts her foot down.
“I don’t know how you’re not already drunk, but no more for you. I’m cutting you off.”
“You’re so mean!”
Saihara shrugs, watching the crocodile tears well up in her friend’s indigo eyes, then die off just as quickly.
“Ah, I can’t stay mad at you!” Ouma yells out over the music, grasping at the taller female’s thin wrists to pull her closer. “Now dance with me!”
Saihara isn’t much of a dancer, but she adheres to the other’s request/demand and sways the directions that she is led to. Before long, she can sense a smile tugging at her thin lips, body going more lax. The braid that her long, dark hair is in is starting to unravel with the increasingly jerkier movements and then slender fingers with neatly painted black nails tug at the tie to free the strands. While they fall over her shoulders, Ouma closes in and leans up to speak with her lips inches away from Saihara’s.
“Kay, I’m bored of this place now. Let’s go back home.”
Saihara complies easily, letting the shorter but more assertive female lead her through the crowd and out into the dim night. She drives them back to their shared apartment, watching Ouma fix her sailor’s cap in the mirror where she sits unbothered in the passenger seat. Once they’re through the front door, Ouma is whining and pulling off her boots.
“Saihara-chan, help me!”
With a soft chuckle, the navy-haired girl shrugs off her trenchcoat and abandons her matching deerstalker cap on the couch, then drops to her knees. Ouma steadies herself with one hand on Saihara’s slender shoulder, dainty fingertips digging into clavicle. Once they’re off, the shorter girl lets out a moan of relief and heat rises to the other’s cheeks as the sound reaches her ears. She stands, scooping up the boots and carrying them to Ouma’s bedroom.
The violet-haired girl flops down onto the bed with a sigh, face buried in the checkered comforter and skirt rising up to give the room a few of her black panties. Saihara swallows nervously, tugging at the collar of her black turtleneck and clearing her throat. She heads to the door and hears light rustling.
“Make sure you take your makeup off before you-”
“Why are you always so nervous near me?” Ouma interrupts.
Sputtering, Saihara turns to face the other, who is now sitting up on the bed facing her.
“Wh-what?”
A wicked little smirk stretches across thin lips stained with purple lipgloss. Ouma reaches behind herself and unhooks the corset, with little to no difficulty. Her voice is sultry and taunting when she speaks.
“We’ve known each other since high school and you still act like you did back when we first met,” she notes.
Saihara’s eyes dance between her pale face and the slowly loosening article of clothing on her chest.
“What are you-”
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you were a dirty little dyke with a big, fat crush on me.”
Saihara pales. “Y-you can’t...you shouldn’t say that word, it’s-”
“I’m literally gay.”
The corset is tossed to the side and then Ouma is leaning back on the bed and lifting her hips to pull the tule skirt off, then the fishnets right after. All that the taller girl can do in response is lean her palm against the doorframe behind her and watch with rapt attention as her friend strips oh so shamelessly in front of her. Ouma has milky white skin and everything is so dainty about her. Her thin limbs that carry her around seem longer now that they’re bare to the room, shiny and smooth from the looks of them. Her hair fans out over her head like a halo when she lays back and gives Saihara such a disgustingly cocky smirk.
“Come here,” the smaller girl barks out, and Saihara is following the command obediently, face ablaze with a blush.
Her cheeks are tingling with the pigment as she makes her way over and lowers herself onto the bed beside her friend’s lax form. One small hand reaches up and caresses her jawline with gentle knuckles. Before she can open her mouth to excuse her wandering eyes, Ouma is tangling her fingers in the long navy blue locks and tugging her down into a kiss. More than compliant, Saihara is kissing back in mere seconds, urged on by short fingernails gently scratching at her scalp. She’s giving in so easily, the heels of her palms digging into the mattress as she leans over the other’s smaller form and casts a shadow over the naked body beneath her.
Then, she’s crawling onto the bed and straddling her friend’s waist. Ouma reaches up with her free hand and tugs the plaid coat open, shoving it off of Saihara’s bony shoulders with an impatient grunt. Her fingers dip into the band of the matching plaid pants, unbuttoning them with both hands after dropping her grip on the girl’s hair. She gets them open and wraps one small hand around Saihara’s neck, pushing her away from the kiss with a wet sound. Both of their lips are covered in spit.
She doesn’t even need to say anything before Saihara is standing up and quickly shimmying the pants down her legs. The taller girl has a slender figure too, but she is more developed and proportionate in some areas. Her thighs are thin but toned, the tendons in them flexing as she steps out of the garment. Her shirt comes off next, revealing to Ouma the beige bra cupping her handfuls of breasts. She has a lean body, the curves more dramatic than Ouma’s. The smaller girl finds her hands wanting to cover her own form out of an ancient insecurity stemming from her middle school days, but she suppresses the urge and smirks on.
“A beige bra, you’re such a grandma,” Ouma gripes playfully, waiting for the other to shadow her body again.
Saihara rolls her eyes, but her cheeks are still flushed and her lips are still trembling. With hesitation plaguing her arms, she finally reaches behind herself and unhooks her bra, then reaches for her panties. The shorter girl beats her to it, fingers dipping beneath the elastic and snapping it against her plush skin. Saihara gasps, the sting sending goosebumps down her legs. She quickly leans over Ouma and straddles her waist again, shaggy blue bangs falling over her amber eyes while she takes in the sight beneath her.
Whatever she must have looked like seemed to amuse Ouma.
“As much as I love the way you’re looking at me right now, I should probably stay in control for your first time having super crazy lesbian sex,” the girl jokes, sitting up and craning her neck to look up at the other.
Saihara feels some sort of weight leave her shoulders, the desire to see her friend cry sparkling tears beneath her dissipating as she nods.
“That’s my girl,” a milky white hand closes around her neck again and she melts.
Painted nails dig crescent marks into the tendons in her neck and sends shocks of pleasure throughout her body.
“God, I can feel you dripping on my tummy,” Ouma teases, obviously exaggerating.
Except maybe she isn’t. Saihara knows she’s wet, and she’s sitting with at least half of her weight on the other, so it’s very possible that she’s getting herself all over her friend’s skin. It doesn’t seem to bother Ouma, if anything, the smirk on the other’s lips is telling that she feels just the opposite. Her hips buck forward out of pure instinct and the slick slide that aids the way reveals to both of them that Ouma is correct.
“See? You nasty dyke,” she teases with a sly tint in her voice.
The degrading nature of her words only makes Saihara’s trembling thighs throb with another ache as she once again bucks forward and enjoys the friction between her thighs.
“I bet I know what’ll feel even better than that,” Ouma says as she regards the inexperienced girl above her with captivated eyes.
Saihara only then realizes that her own eyes are hooded, eyebrows knitted together in a form of concentration. Usually her attention and eye for detail is impeccable, but it was safe to say that she was too distracted to rely on her keen detective instincts at the moment. Before she can comprehend what’s happening, Ouma is sitting up and pushing her onto her back, then leaning her own form back once again. She’s balancing her weight on one elbow while she slots their hips together in a way that has more heat enveloping what’s between her legs.
“What are you-”
The violet-haired girl interrupts the other with a slow grind of her hips, turning the ending of Saihara’s question into a broken gasp. Petite fingers and gripping at her thigh, digging more crescent shapes into the expanse of skin and grounding her against the bed. Saihara clenches the bed spread in her fist when she’s granted more rubbing. Unsure of what to respond with, she settles for letting quiet pants leave her dry lips. Ouma is much better at this, taking her pleasure without restraint and drinking up the sounds that her friend makes.
“I bet that feels better than your pillow, doesn’t it Saihara-chan?” she taunts, looking down the length of their bodies and finding the other’s bashful gaze.
“K-Ko-kee-”
“You think I don’t hear you humping your pillow every night? Why can’t you just get a vibrator like a normal girl? I mean, I’d still hear it, but at least you’ll come faster with one,” Ouma explains, never once stopping the movement of her hips.
The muscles in her thighs are tensing and Saihara can feel it against her inner thighs because of the way they were slotted against one another.
“You’re one to t-talk - talk! - about com-m-ming fast!” she pants, sweat glistening underneath her bangs.
She swears that she sees a hint of a blush on Ouma’s cheeks, but the other is flopping down onto the bed completely and is now out of her sight. Seconds later, she feels a press of warm lips against the back of her thigh. Small kisses are littered over the trembling limb while one hand creeps down the front of it and a thumb slides between them. The wetness - was it that or was it sweat, Saihara wonders in embarrassment - provides all the harmony needed for Ouma to slide her thumb right against Saihara’s clit and rub mercilessly in little circles, using only the very end of the pad of her finger.
Saihara figures this is some sort of punishment for talking out of turn, but if this was punishment then it wouldn’t be a very effective one. If anything, it was serving more as an encouragement for her bad behavior. She’s throwing her head back and gripping the sheets and Ouma’s calf at the same time. Despite the pressure being so minimal, she was letting out high-pitched whines and arching her back toward the ceiling in seconds, only warning her friend after she’d felt the damn break.
“God, I’m - I’m coming! I’m-”
Ouma sits up to watch, eyes rapt with their attention on the spasming mess pressed against her. Her hips are moving of their own accord, one hand pressed into the mattress to keep her balance. She watches Saihara struggle so cutely to muffle her keens of pleasure by biting her lip, only bringing her wet thumb to the raw flesh once the girl goes limp against the bed and lets her legs fall open wider. Her teeth release the pink tissue easily and accept the invited digit willingly, eyes growing hungrier when they meet indigo ones.
Amber is burning into Ouma’s soul while Saihara sucks on her thumb. Soon, with the thumb still in her mouth, the slender girl that towers over her is sitting up and pressing her hand against Ouma’s slim chest. The bed spread is cold against her back when she lays down and watches Saihara finally reject the finger, her second wind seemingly hitting her as she sinks down to press her front into the bed. Before the purple-haired girl can spit out some witty remark about this being a whole new - sluttier - side of Saihara, the other’s lips are closing around just her clit while she presses a wet kiss to the damp area.
“Oh, you damn-”
Two fingers are shoved into her mouth to effectively shut her up and she begrudgingly complies. If she were to be shut up by anyone or by any method, this one - with Saihara’s fingertips pressing against her togue - would be her first choice. The tip of the other’s tongue is teasing her, making her eyes cross when Saihara pushes the wet muscle forward just the right way. She isn;t inside, that’s what Ouma is being deprived of, but she is giving just enough attention to that bundle of nerves that in record time Ouma is coming with a string of curses and slurs leaving her lips.
Ouma laughs while she comes, Saihara learns definitively in that moment. She’s heard the other’s muffled laughter late at night before and assumed as much, but seeing up close and in the flesh like this was captivating. Ouma is laughing while she calls Saihara every name in the book at tugs at her navy blue hair viciously. Whimpers weasel their way from her throat but she swallows down the sounds associated with weakness, another habit she’d developed over those long few years of adolescent bullying. Saihara thinks the whimpers are music to her ears, she wants to hear more of them. With a quick glance at the clock, she decides that she will hear more of them tonight.

A lot of places are named after historical events, battles, and people, so keep that in mind. God/Goddess names tied to your world also work well. Places are also often named after things that the area is known for, like Georgia being known for its peaches.
My brain was fried by the end of this so feel free to add more!
I hope you find this reference helpful and good luck world-building!

Inspiration: Fungi
A collection of strange, unique and interesting fungi to inspire your worldbuilding, loot creation, lore writing, or anything else you may need for your D&D/other RPG campaigns.
Check out the ones I did for Gems and Plantlife
Please feel free to add more inspiring fungi to the post, or share what you create!
( Trypophobia trigger warning )
Blue Milk Mushroom (Lactarius indigo)
Tumblr media
This widespread mushroom can be found in a wide variety of forests, where it forms symbiotic relationships with a broad range of trees around it. The flesh of the mushroom is a striking blow, and when cut the mushroom oozes a milky latex substance that is bright, indigo blue (although it slowly turns green as it is exposed to air over time)
Blue Milk Brew: A popular brew for pranksters, the fermented milk from this mushroom looks like regular milk in appearance, but will slowly turn the one who drinks it blue over time.
Clear Blue Skies Charm: A charm made from this petrified mushroom will ensure that the weather on your travels remains favorable, with clear blue skies, until the mushroom turns completely green.
Bitter Oyster ( Panellus Stipticus)
Tumblr media
This widely distributed fungus grows in dense groups or clusters on logs, stumps, and trunks of deciduous trees (especially birch, oak and beech) Its bio luminescence is localized to the edges of the gills and the junction of the gills with the stem and the cap.
Draught of Contact  Luminescence: A small vial filled with a faintly glowing potion. When consumed, your body will emit a bright glow wherever it is in contact with something (including itself) - your feet, the fold of your elbow, the creases of your eyes, etc...
Clustering Boots: The gnarled and frilling boots allow you to easily adjust to tight quarters, and in fact allow you to operate better when in close quarters. You are able to share space with others and gain action bonuses when you do.
Adornments of Strength: Small petrified clusters of these fungal groups can be strapped to wooden armor and weapon pieces, giving them a bonus to their durability and overall power.
Golden Jelly Fungus (Tremella Mesenterica)
Tumblr media
The gelatinous body of this parasitic fungus has a lobed surface that is greasy or slimy whenever wet. In dry weather it shrinks to a shriveled pulp or thin film, but will revitalize itself once wet again. Bland and flavorless, but edible.
Golden Jelly: A staple food ration, this jelly can be dried out allowing you to carry 32 oz. of jelly in a small 8 oz. jar. Simply coat a piece of bread or cracker with the thin film and add a small splash of water or flavored syrup and the jelly will manifest before your eyes!
Golden Grease: A thin, glistening oil that makes anything coated with it nearly impossible to grab or be grappled - works on people and items alike!
The Rosy Veincap (Rhodotus palmatus)
Tumblr media
This species of mushroom is on the decline and is on many lists of threatened species. It can be found mostly on the stumps and logs of rotting hardwood, and is most easily identified by it’s peachy color and rubbery veined surface.
Veinthorn Poison: A soft, rose colored liquid that, upon entering the bloodstream, begins to shred and dehydrate all the veins in the body. Corpses that have fallen to this poison are identified when they are cut open, reveling an internal cardiovascular system that resembles the same fungus the poison was made from.
Rosecap Candies: Small pink candies with cracked sugar webbing that can be eaten for a small boost to charisma, especially when trying to be charming or seductive.
Woodrot Gloves: These fine suede gloves are made from a delicate pink material, and feature a delicate and intricate pattern embroidered over them with white thread. Despite their opulent appearance, these magic gloves allow the wearer to press through and destroy hardwood of any sort as though it were butter.
Violet Coral (Clavaria zollingeri)
Tumblr media
This tubular and vibrantly purple fungus resembles a piece of coral reef commonly found in the ocean, but is actually a fungus most commonly found growing among woodland litter or in grasslands, breaking down fallen organic matter.
Landwalker Coral: A small symbiotic parasite that grows just off of most sea shores, this small plant allows any waterbreathing creature to breathe on land by growing into their respiratory system and out of their gills, serving to process the dry air instead of their gills.
Violet Vestments: A set of vestments dyed a brilliant violet color that grows in intensity to ensure that you are always the most bright and striking thing in the area. A favorite for Bards looking to be the center of attention.
Anemone Stinkhorn (Aseroe rubra)
Tumblr media
This foul fungus is known for its odor of carrion, as well as it’s striking resemblance to sea anemone in shape once matured. Found on mulch in grassy areas, this fungus relies on it’s offending odor to attract flies that help spread its spores.
Drowned Corpse Star Spores: A small vial of spores that can be carefully administered to the victim of your choice. Said victim will develop small red polyps all over their body as they slowly find themselves drowning on dry land. When the body finally succumbs to the water flooding its lungs, the polyps bloom into small star shaped mushrooms looking to spread to another victim.
Stinkhorn Bomb: A tight red pod that unfurls on impact, releasing a wave of overwhelming odor that requires a constitution save in order to remain conscious and upright if caught by it.
Anemone Sea Devil: A fiendish being from the depths of the sea, this strange variant of Myconid, these beings grow and live on the sea beds, where they reach their tendrils towards the surface and snare unsuspecting prey to drag into the depths.
Pixie’s Parasol (Mycena interrupta)
Tumblr media
These delicate mushrooms are incredibly small, their broad caps only growing up to 2 centimeters in diameter. They take on a slimy, sticky texture when wet and their cyan caps resemble tiny umbrellas.
Feywild Parasol: When plucked, these small mushrooms grow to the size of a standard parasol, and will protect the wielder from all weather - hot sunlight, blizzard-like snow, biting rain, etc...
Pixie Potion: A sickeningly sweet blue potion that transforms the consumer into a pixie. However, exposure to sunlight will immediate undo the effect
The Black Morel (Morchella conica)
Tumblr media
This fungus features a distinctive honeycomb structure created by a network of dark ridges and pits. It;s prized by many gourmet cooks (especially with french cuisine) and is even sought after by many who simply enjoy the flavor and the hunt.
Traveler’s Sweet Broth: An easy soup to make on the road, this broth is made by stewing these dried mushrooms over the fire for long periods of time. The longer they are stewed, the sweeter and more rich the broth becomes.
Seeker’s Stone: A stone created from a valuable dried fungal cap that attracts to the most valuable thing within 10 miles. A favorite possession for treasure hunters.
Alright, that’s the third of the “series” - feel free to add in what you were inspired to create, or other fungi that you think will get the gears grinding for others!

[ Madison downs another energy potion. Her night has been fantastic. After her work shift at Scroll & Ink earlier, she came right back to an empty dorm and cracked open the books. She’s reviewed the notes for both her Slaying classes, re-read two chapters of her Druidic History text, and also made some sketches to share with art club on Monday before quizzing herself on the comparative anatomy of North American cryptids. She’s got a lot to learn about those; the stack of ‘wrong’ flash cards is higher than the ones she’d answered correctly, but there will be time enough for that later on tonight.
She checks the time. It’s almost 2:30am, but she’s still going strong. She’s not keeping anyone up when Quinn isn’t even here, so she has no reason to stop! What’s the point in stopping when her session is going this well? She hasn’t even needed a break -- well, unless one counted the sketches, and she didn’t.
Carefully, Madison mixes the solutions she’d already concocted practicing for her alchemy exam. She needs to add them in just the right ratio, by drops and half-drops, and with unblinking, restless eyes, she holds an eyedropper full of shimmery, milky potion over a salt and herb tincture that she usually used for purification. Altogether it should create a solution that clears away stagnant Aether residue.
She looks to the recipe as she holds the eyedropper over the tincture, steady, steady ... three, four ... five? Madison looks again. Six, seven... There. She sets the dropper down and caps the vial, shaking it as she activates it. << If this Aether be stuck, then clear away muck, >> she murmurs, and watches the contents of the vial turn green, then yellow, and back to green, the glow of her magic circle brightening as it it infuses the potion.
Was it supposed to do that? The yellow thing?
Her brows knit together in consternation when she stops shaking it, the potion having settled on a color somewhere between blue and purple, laced with pearlescent green in the shade of her circle. Huh. Madison pries the cap off, and -- no, it’s stuck. She frowns and tugs a little harder, and the cork pulls off with a pop, splashing shiny indigo potion over her lap, her notes, her hands. Aether! She groans audibly and stands, searching for a towel to sop up the mess.
Madison sits down with her freshly-cleaned equipment and tries again. It’s no big deal if her fingers are still a little purple, right? She checks the text, to make sure she’s got the right recipe, and ... oh ... it was only supposed to be five drops! That explains a lot... And that was definitely not the right activation phrase. Oops. She should probably sleep, but she doesn’t dare. She’s almost got it, and she’s certain that her next attempt will be perfect. ]

Blue dye from red beets: Chemists devise a new pigment option
What's your favorite color? If you answered blue, you're in good company. Blue outranks all other color preferences worldwide by a large margin. No matter how much people enjoy looking at it, blue is a difficult color to harness from nature. As a chemist who studies the modification of natural products to solve technological problems, I realized there was a need for a safe, nontoxic, cost-effective blue dye. So my Ph.D. student, Barbara Freitas-Dörr, and I devised a method to convert the pigments of red beets into a blue compound that can be used in a wide range of applications. We call it BeetBlue. Natural sources of blue Blue is strongly associated with nature, largely because it is reflected in the sky and on bodies of water. But compared to other colors, blue pigments are not commonly found in living organisms. The feathers of many birds are blue, not because they produce a pigment, but because the microscopic structure of their feathers is able to filter light. This physical phenomenon is very interesting but difficult to adopt for common applications. Plants seldom produce blue hues. When they do, their pigments rarely remain stable after extraction. The same is true for blue mushrooms like the indigo milky cap and other species that develop a blue stain when disturbed. Turning red into blue You might wonder how something red can be turned into something blue. One approach is to change the way its molecules absorb and reflect light. The white light coming from your lamp contains a rainbow of colors, even though you cannot see them—without the use of a prism, that is. The surface of your red chair looks red because, at the molecular level, it is absorbing all the colors except red, which is reflected and eventually reaches your eyes. The color of your chair would change from red to blue if you modified the molecular structure of its dye, making it reflect blue light instead of red. The secret is in the number of carbon atoms in the dye and how they are connected to each other. Beets produce chemical compounds called betalains, which are natural pigments and antioxidants. The chemical structure of betalains can be modified to produce almost any hue. We realized that if we increased the number of alternating single-double bonds in betalain molecules, we could change their color from orange or magenta to blue. Making blue dye with adequate intensity and light-fastness is difficult because it must absorb yellow and orange light efficiently. Solving this problem required lots of molecular tweaking. My lab has been working with betalains for over 10 years to understand their function in nature and their unique chemical features, so it took only one experiment to produce BeetBlue. (It took more than two years to optimize the process, though.) We broke apart the betalain molecules using alkaline water with a pH of 11. Then we mixed the resulting compound, called betalamic acid, with a commercial chemical compound called 2,4-dimethylpyrrole in an open vessel at room temperature. BeetBlue is formed almost instantly. Because we changed the characteristic carbon-nitrogen chemical bond of betalains into a carbon-carbon bond, BeetBlue is a new class of pseudo-natural dyes we call quasibetalains. Color your life blue The chemical synthesis of BeetBlue is fast and very simple. In fact, it is so simple that anyone can do it if all the chemicals are available. BeetBlue dissolves easily in water and other solvents, maintains its color in acidic and neutral solutions, and may provide an alternative to expensive blue colorants that often contain toxic metals, which limit the scope of their applications. Live zebrafish embryos as well as cultured human cells were not affected by BeetBlue. Although more experiments are necessary to make sure it is safe for human consumption, maybe you can dye your hair, customize your clothes or color your food in the future using a dye made from beets. This work shows the importance of basic science for the development of technological applications. We did not patent BeetBlue. We want people to use it freely and understand, by interacting with nature in a different and sustainable way, the future can be bright. Provided by: The Conversation More information: B. C.
