Replaying some SPM to eventually get back into writing mode and the cut scene with Luigi in Bleck's Castle is SO INFORMATIVE.
The Goombas, Kevin and who I would like to call Gary, have his number, his checking account, and his home address in terms of manipulating him. The foreshadowing to the Mr. L persona is just delicious. That overblown ego tied with deep insecurity about not only his skills, but his comparison to his brother didn't come from nowhere, and it doesn't look like those issues weren't such a closely-kept secret in the Darklands.
Tumblr media
"I was saving Princess Peach, but I screwed it up..."
And doesn't that just tug at the heart strings? You didn't screw it up, Luigi. You just happened to stomp on a trillions-of-years-old cosmic force of destruction and unleash chaos throughout the dimensions. Hell, he even put a wrench in Bleck's plans by doing that. Doomed by the narrative, our boy is.
Tumblr media
"A daring defender? ...Me?"
He doubts their words (and well he should, not because they're necessarily untrue but meant to manipulate). But he both doesn't believe he's worthy of that appellation and yet desires it so badly.
Tumblr media
"My fans need me!"
Tumblr media
The commentary by Gary here spells it out. It was way too easy.
Tumblr media
"Must...stroke...ego."
There it is, laid out for everyone. They know Luigi has overcompensation issues. The inversion of this, the low self-regard turned outwards - manifests in Mr. L.
Tumblr media
The killing blow, so to speak. Gary and Kevin are acutely aware of Luigi's secondary status in relation to his brother. I wonder how many others caught onto this. No wonder Mr. L built Brobot. No wonder he's always calling out Mario's style. He may love his brother, but the insecurity is real.
In hindsight, there's nothing all that shocking about Luigi's transformation into Mr. L. It's all laid out right here in this beautiful cut scene.

I wonder how Shoto must feel seeing how he didn't managed to reach Touya after everything he done? (I do think he reached Touya to an extent with the panel of them as kids and him calling Shoto by his name not his hero name) but from Shoto's perspective he must feel like he failed.
I think it’s less about feeling like a failure (though he definitely might feel that way, he just hasn’t said it yet) and more that he is shocked. Because clearly he underestimated how desperate Touya is for their dad. It’s not exactly something Shouto can personally relate to—that want. Considering how Shouto has been trying to rid himself of his dad’s attention for the majority of his life, and only very recently started accepting his dad’s attention and using it to his own advantage.
I think Shouto put his whole heart (literally lmao) into creating that move specifically for his brother. To stop him without hurting him. And Shouto CLEARLY subverted Touya’s expectations when he said this:
Tumblr media
And following all of that, they then had a connecting moment when he pushed against Touya—you know, hence their child selves crying together. It mattered for both of them. But Shouto came at Touya from his own “we lived in the same house and it was fucked up, but you can’t kill people bruh” perspective lol. Which, yes. Those things needed to be said. Touya needs to hear that he isn’t the only one who resents their father and that the family didn’t just, not care about how he felt. Shouto saying those things PROVES that to Touya—someone openly acknowledging how messed up the situation was, and that his feelings toward the situation are valid.
Because saw how hard he took it as a kid when a sibling couldn’t share his sentiment:
Tumblr media
So Shouto kind of making up for that lost moment meant something, obviously:
Tumblr media
BUT—despite the things Shouto has made up for, with his words, I and many others have said it already. Shouto was never going to be the full answer. This is just my way of looking at it—but for Touya you can split his needs up into two categories: Dad, and Family. They’re one in the same, but different.
Touya already spiraled and collapsed from the neglect from his dad over and over again, when he “died”. What broke Touya completely was upon his return home after waking up and he perceived the situation as his entire family burying him:
Tumblr media
So this is just my way of looking at it—there is Endeavor’s validation, and then there is Shouto, as a representative of the rest of the family’s validation. Touya needs both. Because as evidenced by his backstory, his mom and siblings were not enough.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shouto was isolated from the siblings, and had too much of his dad’s attention. So it’s fair to assume he doesn’t fully grasp how desperate Touya really is. And he may not even fully grasp that Touya’s desire to kill their dad isn’t purely revenge—it’s because Touya’s love for his dad has hurt him repeatedly, by his dad’s hand. And I’m not entirely sure Shouto actually understands that. The twisted emotions Touya is experiencing. Love and hatred both, for their dad. On the surface Touya just seems like he’s vengeful—which, yes. But we as readers know it goes deeper than that—he wants his dad’s attention, love, acknowledgement, all of that. He isn’t just angry. He’s sad and heartbroken too—which is a harder psychological wound to heal than just being angry.
There was progress though—I also think it’s interesting how Shouto starts pointing out how skilled Touya actually is, rather than being something like “oh great, here we go again”. Also, it wasn’t in the fan translation (which I wasn’t a huge fan of), but in the Japanese version he referred to him as big brother Touya. It was left out on the fan scans, sadly.
But it’s just kinda cool seeing them both subtly learn more about each other and it showing very slowly in the way they talk and think toward each other. So you pointing out how Shouto might feel does make me wonder if Shouto will start to really grasp the situation soon, and vocalize that he understands now that Touya’s feelings about their dad are not simple and cannot be washed away with words or actions from just anyone.

It's weird to me that this fandom criticizes a teenager for... being angry and sad that his father abuses him.
In what universe would anyone just... be okay with that.
It's not only unfair, it's horrible and it's inhumane treatment.
So yeah, Billy has a right to be angry. To react.
Abuse changes you. It ages you. You're constantly in survival mode, which can be so unlike your true self but you're in an awful position where you're constantly on edge. You always have to be ready for whatever comes your way.
It's nerve-wracking. You never know if or when your abuser's going to be in a good mood. No matter how much you watch their every move they still remain unpredictable.
To be treated like you're less than human gets to you. Whatever your reaction may be... you're not meant to be treated like you don't matter. You're allowed to be angry. You're allowed to react, even if you don't react the way others think you should. Even if your reaction doesn't come in a "universally acceptable" way, it doesn't mean anyone has the right to invalidate your trauma.

the mandalorian wars went like this:
mandalore the ultimate is campaigning for the survival of his culture. he's also feeling the sting of his predecessor having shared both a bed and a failed military campaign with ulic qel-droma (and/or exar kun depending on who you ask). the ultimate mandalore decides his people will have a good fight on their own terms.
phase 1: testing the stars
it starts with the outer rim--planets outside republic or sith jurisdiction. planets they can sharpen their claws against. survivors slip through the cracks of course--a cathar family here, a crime syndicate there--but these fearful calls are easily dismissed, ignored, smothered by a galaxy still in recovery. does killing a sentient count as verd'goten? did they fight back, in the end?
phase 2: settled scores
it's a slow movement towards the mid-rim. so many worlds that resisted mandalorian occupation must now contend with the fact that occupation is no longer an option. when they strike, they do so not simply to provoke the republic, but also to cut off the head of pointless rebellion. distress calls finally come through, and when the first republic world feels mandalorian boots on its ground, the senate convenes to draft a response. after they let onderon fall and the neo-crusaders don't stop, the strategy of appeasement is reconsidered.
ten years, give or take. that's how much time the republic has to make up for. that's how long the mandalorians have slaughtered worlds while senators slept in their beds blissfully unaware and uncaring.
phase 3: the revanchist
the republic acts now, but the jedi do not, instead urging caution. the jedi are peacekeepers, not warriors, they admonish. there is a greater threat than war behind this, they warn. that of the dark side. but the jedi born outside of exar kun's war of betrayal know nothing of the grays of conflict. the mandalorian are a menace and they must be stopped, and if the council believes there is a greater threat then the newly formed republic mercy corps will find proof. make the council admit their wrongs. make the jedi and republic commit themselves wholeheartedly to halting the mandalorian crusaders.
they find dead worlds. they find genocide and enslavement. they find a righteous fury to add to their cause.
the heroes go to war.
phase 4: the star war
it ends with the outer rim--specifically with the fifth planet in the malachor system, inventively known as malachor v. it is beautiful, even with mandalorian ships blocking the moon and basilisk war droids on the ground. the republic mercy corps no longer exists because mercy cannot exist in war. war leaves only warriors and soldiers and the loyal dead in its wake. the war ends on their terms: one jedi destroys their culture while another destroys the planet. the power of a star, activated in the palm of a hand, and the story is forever changed.
the heroes never came back.

More reasons why Zuko being the Firelord is objectively the funniest thing on earth:
HES SEVENTEEN
He hasn’t been civilised in 4 years, his entire teenage experience consists of living on a boat and sleeping rough. The most stable bed he has was probably in Ba Sing Se he probably will just nap anywhere.
He has customer service experience which means he probably uses his customer service voice on his minsters.
Additionally he probably just wanders into to kitchen to get his own snacks and tea because he forgets what servants do.
He probably has no idea why he can’t just chase after an assassin he used to hunt the avatar for Agnis sake why is the captain of the guard demanding he stay in his room he’ll find the guy first (he’s probably right)
Katara probably has a free pass on Eco terrorism because what’s he going to do challenge her, she’ll beat his ass.
If he saw a minster doing something shady he will either invite lady Beifong to detect their BS or commit B&E and look for evidence himself.
He somehow found a baby dragon and raises it.
He will be far to willing to give Kyoshi island anything they want cause he feels bad and Suki scares him.
He randomly insisted on giving some earth kingdom village 100 ostrich horses.
The Avatar will just show up call him Hotman and demand the go on adventures and the Firelord will just dip because he’s been confined to long and has the Zoomies.
He takes far to much advice from Sokka and will genuinely believe if someone doesn’t get Sokkas plans they must be an idiot because Sokka is 16.
Sokka and Zuko also get into a lot of teenage rebellion phases by accident.
Toph just walks in breaks a wall of his palace and demands a field trip that always involves the Firelord having to explain himself to the cops.
He somehow knows every dangerous teen in the world and they all come for tea uninvited.
He has broken into both the NWT and Ba Sing Se.
He has a really well documented facial scar and official portraits but still disappears to be Lee the tea guy like no one knows.
HES SEVENTEEN.

“why don’t they ever suspect Luke why don’t they realize it’s Luke why are they so quick to suspect Clarisse and not a Hermes kid”
guys, Luke is the perfect child. Thats the whole point! He gave his offerings he said his prayers he went on his quest he proved his loyalty to Chiron, to the gods, to his dad. And he did it all with a smile. They have no reason to suspect luke! Luke is the best of them!
Ares could’ve come to that meeting waving a big sign that said “LUKES THE LIGHTNING THIEF” and they still wouldn’t have believed him.
Because they also don’t want it to be Luke.
They love Luke. Luke takes care of them Luke protects them Luke is everything they want in an older brother. It doesn’t matter how blaringly obvious the writers get about who the real thief is. They will ignore every sign, every red flag, every warning, until Percy is dying of poison deep in the forest and Luke is gone.

Matt Mullenweg is now sexually harassing Avery on Twitter for posting a selfie and the caption “too hot for tumblr”
Tumblr media
what the actual fuck is he doing. where those were sw accounts this is not just completely inappropriate harassment but potentially outing. so fucking far beyond what he was already doing to follow her there.
also noting that he's changed his focus since nobody thought the screenshot of the threat was valid (and i have had multiple ex-staff confirm that it's not against tos, btw). this kind of info should never be dug up and put out there by a ceo having a tantrum, christ alive

Can I just say that the Children of the Watch is possibly my favorite addition Disney canon has made to Star Wars? Because their Way of the Mandalore is clearly and unambiguously about the Mask of Mandalore and just speaks once more to the crimes House Kryze committed. There's a splinter group of Death Watch that is both devoted to the ways of the ancient Mandalorians and dedicated to community and family and diversity and it matters. That means something.
