✨DnD Update My Beloved✨

after some... unpleasant real world adventure (NPCs dying, party member turning out to be evil, you know how it is), we finally gathered again to set out on new fictional adventures

highlights included:

- Quinn and Hope having a supreme bitchfest for the entire session

- the guy playing the druid getting distracted by the host's goldfish multiple times (it's not enough to merely play the druid, you have to be the druid)

- the DM having a player throw a real ass stone to determine if an ability check would succeed (it did)

- the party agreeing to be stealthy in order to not alert a horde of orcs, thwarted by Hope just strolling along there with a fucking torch out

- Hope wanting to eldritch blast the orcs that Talia put to sleep with magic, only to fudge his roll and wake the up again instead

- Hope suggesting to use a small fire to distract the orcs while the party frees the prisoners, starts a wildfire that almost consumes the nearby town instead

- Hope almost dying because of the wildfire he started

- Hope very surprisedly realizing he has darkvision after everybody nearly died because of his torch business

- Hope also finding out he is resistant to fire damage, after having to roll death saves already because of fire damage

- Hope really had a day y'all

- Quinn clinging onto their sanity by their fingernails because of him

- Talia being the only sane and reliable person in the party that day, all the while being the one who handed Hope the tinderbox for his genius wildfire plan

- a random old lady NPC going full berserk on an orc

- Talia fudging a roll and just cutting off an orc's loincloth instead of stabbing him, resulting in Quinn having to witness full frontal orc nudity

- Lou trying to go on a solo stealth mission in wildshape, only to be captured by the orcs and getting muzzled and put in a collar (quote Lou: "Ohhh, kinky!")

- after nobody being able to deal with the wildfire, Quinn exasperatedly deciding to perform an improvised rain dance, which the DM allowed to succeed under the condition that the player got up and demonstrated it (they did)

- Quinn developing a minor God Complex after their rain dance was actually working

- Hope crafting a necklace out of severed orc ears, nose, and, most notably, a cut off orc dick

- the DM revealing in the end that nothing was scripted today at all, she wanted to experiment with just going along with what the players wanted to do, unfortunately what the players wanted to do was start a wildfire

#it was SO much fun #i loved every second of it (even tho i was pretty anxious about PCs dying several times) #it really had that special chaotic energy you only get in dnd #mwah #i love my party they are the best #and our dm especially we are really putting her through it #dnd #sol on a roll

Lamia Drama Part 10

DND PLANNING IS HERE AT LAST. >:D

I don’t think there’s anything impenetrable to non-DnD fans here... But here’s some basics on the classes anyways:

Monks are fast and good at fist to fist fighting, barbarians are tanky berserkers, sorcerers have inborn magic, druids have nature magic, clerics have god-granted magic, warlocks make pacts with patrons, fighters just got good with weapons and standard melee fighting.

Again, I’ll tag and link properly later, gotta go get foooood. But nothing majorly angsty anyways.

           Keith took a deep breath as everyone settled around the table, hands stuffed firmly in his pockets. A mixture of excitement and nerves were bunched up inside his soul and he hoped Alex couldn’t feel it, though she seemed genuinely clueless so far. Either that, or a far better roleplayer than he anticipated. The tip of his tail was sweeping back and forth on the floor as he scratched lightly at the insides of his pockets, desperate to find some way to dissipate some of his energy. Still, he wasn’t going to start until everyone was settled in.

           It was a round table, easy to see everyone. Keith had offered Alex a spot on his left. Oozy was sitting on her left, then Nikolai, then Liam, then Hux, then Keith. Trousle had claimed the middle of the table.  

Most had already gotten their drinks ready, but Hux was buying some chips from the vending machine… Or rather, he was convincing Nikolai to buy him chips from the vending machine, given that he was the one who actually had a paycheck. Alex had bought herself a tea from the vending machine and Liam had prepared his “Health Potion” which was really just an extra-sour red cherry slushy. Also…

“I’ve brought you all some snacks, no need to thank me,” Liam said, plopping a Tupperware full of chocolate and peanut butter no-bake cookies on the table. He crossed his arms and smirked, head held high.

Alex did a double-take, looking at her bag, “When did you…?!”

Keith stifled a laugh, “Liam, no.” He was pretty sure Alex intended to share those anyways, and his own mouth was already watering, but still.

           “Liam yes!” Liam said, cackling dramatically.

           Hux already had a cookie in his mouth.

           Nikolai lightly swatted him, “Ask first…”

           “What,” Hux said through a mouthful of cookie. “They’re to share.”

           “I mean, yes… Go ahead, but not gonna lie, I’ll probably eat way too many by myself,” Alex said, grabbing a cookie.

           “See?” Hux said.

           Nikolai rolled his eyes and politely took one – he didn’t care much for sweets, but wouldn’t turn it down. He gave one of the smaller globs to Trousle, and Keith took that as a go-ahead. It practically melted in his mouth, cocoa and peanut butter melting into a sweet cream as the oats gave it just enough weight to count as solid matter. It was deliciously rich, not over-sweet, but still very much a dessert. He was tempted to reach for another, but maybe he should hold back…

           Well Alex has already gotten a plate and taken four, so no reason he can’t have another…

           “How did you do that by the way? I didn’t even hear the zipper,” Alex said, looking to Liam.

           “A great hunter never reveals his secrets~”    

           “He’s sneaky, you have to watch out for him,” Nikolai said. “But speaking of which, I was actually thinking of trying out a rogue…”

           “Daaaang. Playing against type?” Hux said. “Ain’t like you to be anything but a healer.”

           Nikolai shrugged, “I figured I’d give it a try.”

           “Respect,” Hux said. “That said, I’m making a Totem Barbarian.”

           Trousle rolled his eyes, “You never play anything else!”

           “It works, don’t it?”

           “It’s boring!”

           “I have to agree,” Liam said. “It’s like you’re just playing the same person every time…”

           Keith decided to cut in before this could get ugly, “Let him play what he wants.” If Hux wanted to play the same character with a name change, then let him. It’s a game, might as well have fun with it.

           “Thank you,” Hux said.

           “Alex, what’re you thinking?” Keith said.

           “I mean, I’ve got a lot of characters I could maybe use? Do you have a setting in mind, or…?”

           “Go nuts dude,” Keith said. “As long as it ain’t completely broken, I’m down for most things.”

           Alex’s face lit up. “In that case… Gimme a minute here.” She pulled a notebook from her bag and started scribbling furiously, making little bullet points, rambling in words, all sorts of things. It was a chaotic, disorganized mess, and Keith could absolutely feel the excitement pouring off of her, making it even harder to sit still. Apparently she felt the same, her foot was shaking a mile a minute, and any time she wasn’t writing, her pencil tapped against the page.

           Trousle slithered over, peaking at her notes, and Liam leaned over smiling like a cat with a canary. They were probably happy to have another roleplayer at the table.

           Hux, however, was glaring at Alex’s foot, “Can… can you not? Like, that’s kinda distracting.”

           “Hmm?” Alex said. “Ah… sorry. Which part?”

           “Stop shaking your damn foot.”

           Alex nodded, crossing her legs. Keith bit his tongue – it was a reasonable request, but he was tempted to hiss at Hux. He dug his claws into the insides of his hoodie instead, feeing the fabric catch and finding the little hole he’d worn in his left pocket. It didn’t feel like enough, he wanted to move, wanted to do something to let out some of this pent up energy – since when did he have this much anyways?

           Alex started rocking in her chair, making it clack as it hit the floor – it was off balance – and some of his anxiousness subsided as he listened to the steady rhythm of clacking.

           “… dude,” Hux said. “That’s not any better! That’s actively worse!”

           Keith was tempted to tell him to shove it up his ass, but thankfully Nikolai spoke first, “Just let her. No one else is bothered, are you?”

           “Nope,” Keith said.

           Trousle and Liam shook their heads.

           “Fine…”

           “Do you want me to do this somewhere else?” Alex said.

           “Yer fine,” Keith said. “Whatcha thinking about anyways?” Change the topic…

           She perked up a little at that, looking over her notes, “I was thinking maybe a warlock contracted out by the Fey? That seems kinda obvious though, so I figured, why does it have to be a warlock? I’ve already made a lot of those anyways.

           “So, like… Here’s another idea. Maybe my character got traded away as a kid? Like a changeling sort of thing! They’ve lived with the fey for a lot of their life, but didn’t have the magic they did since they’re just a normal human. But they’ve had some opportunity to learn since, y’know, they’ve lived in fae realms. I’m thinking maybe the magic infected them somehow and they ended up a wild magic sorcerer? Or maybe got CURSED and ended up a sorcerer! And maybe they’ll meet the person who replaced them one day, and they’re used to contracts and stuff, and, uh…

           “It’s still kind of rough. I put this together in, like, five minutes guys.”

           “I think I can work with this…” Liam purred. “I want to play the changeling that replaced her character in the mortal realm.”

           “OH THAT’S REALLY COOL!” Alex squealed, bouncing in her seat.

           “Dude, you can’t have all the fae abilities, y’know that, right?” Keith said. He tended towards rule of fun, but there still had to be SOME boundaries…

           “I’d be disappointed if you did! At least, not right off the bat. My character’s been raised as human and only knows of the mortal realm. Perhaps a fighter… With shades of sorcerer. We can work it out.”

           “I like it! I might change my class though, is that okay?” Alex said. “I’m not really sure which to use for this…”

           “Can I be a fairy companion? Maybe I was sent to watch over Liam’s character and that’s how he started finding out about his heritage? Or to protect him? Maybe he’s important!” Trousle said. “I can take healer and support! Maybe a cleric? Or a druid! Yeah! A druid!”

           Keith grinned, these guys were putting it all together themselves! “Y’know what, go for it!” This was practically writing itself…

           “In this case… I think I’ll play a rogue who specializes in shady political dealings. Particularly fey contracts,” Nikolai said.

           “Sounds perfect to me.”

           “I, uh… I work for Nikolai’s dude. Contracted barbarian, I guess,” Hux said. Roleplay was never his strong suit.

           Keith nodded, “I’ll get to drafting stuff…. And Oozy?”

           … Oozy yawned, waking up from a half-doze. “Hmm? Oh… sorry. Yeah, I made one while you guys were talking.” He slid a character sheet over.

           Keith raised the ridge of his eye-socket, “A gnome monk?”

           “Yep. It’s gonna be terrible.” He grinned, a twinkle in his eyes. “Or more accurately… A G’nome G’ninja.”

           “Pffft. Perfect,” Keith said.

           Looks like they had a campaign.

I WATCHED GOOD OMENS IN FRENCH SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO

and it wasn’t that bad. Here are my thoughts, barely edited as I wrote most of them while watching the show.

EP 1

im being reminded that the chattering nuns prepared little cut outs for their explanation about the antichrist switch… such dedication to useless crafts (it made me laugh on my first viewing and it’s still funny to imagine that some of them either ordered or built these things themselves just so they could make this two minutes long presentation for the most important act of their satanic nun careers)

i was wondering how they would play aziraphale not being able to speak french in the bastille and they opted to have him stutter a bit and say to his executionner « excuse me i’m anxious » XD

l’apocalypse c’est pour aujourd’hui juste après le goûter : it could be translated as « apocalypse is scheduled for today right after tea time » except that « goûter » is not quite tea time but rather the little sugary snack kids take when they come back from school and that most adults drop out of (i haven’t and i’m sure az hasn’t either). thanks aziraphale for having exclusively food related notion of the time because tbh same

ligur has no right to be this sexy between ariyon bakare and his french voice actor that’s just not allowed

radio crowley’s voice vs french ligur’s voice, who has the sexiest voice : FIGHT

gender neutral doesn’t ‘quite’ exist in french but pollution has been assigned a female voice actress and masculine pronouns (i’m saying it doesn’t quite exist because officially we have no gender neutral, but it’s a serious wip among lgbt+ circles to the point where it’s started being used in a few medias)

hastur « en attendant qu’un plombier vienne » / « while waiting for a plumber to come » does hell have a special plumber unit or do demons have to call on human plumbers for their pipes damages ? Dang hastur having to call a human plumber for hell’s plumbery is another damn good writing prompt for a crack fic

EP 5 

to get a wiggle on has become « il faut qu’on se remue les fesses », literally « we need to shake our butts » like, yes, se remuer les fesses is a common expression to say « we need to act in order to get things done » but it really casts the image of people shaking their booty to some music and obviously crowley thinks the same Weirdly enough I have almost nothing to say for that episode. Sorry. But we’ve discovered most voice actors and actresses so far and no bit of dialogue really struck me as worth discussing or pointing fingers to mock it.

EP 6 

« on va BROUTER quelques derrières » - « we’re gonna lick some butts » OK THIS IS UNQUESTIONNABLY FAR SUPERIOR IN FRENCH THAN IN ENGLISH you thought LICKING butts was good ??? you really thought that ???? AZIRAPHALE HERE SUGGESTS TO GRAZE BUTTS. TO NIBBLE THEM. TO EAT THEM. TO. MUNCH. ON. THOSE. BUTTS!!!! not just licking, guys. This is as serious step beyond licking. (oh yeah he should have said « botter » instead of brouter btw, which is really just kicking, fyi)

« moi je crois en la paix, pétasse ! » wow, language, pepper (fyi i think « pétasse » is far far worse than « bitch » even if it means roughly the same, pétasse is almost never used while bitch is rather common, so it’s a swear word +++)

I can confirm that Crowley offers Aziraphale to not just stay at his place, but to move in with him. « tu peux t’installer chez moi si tu veux ». omg they were roommates.

Bad translation strikes again : i don’t know why, but the french dub doesn’t have the « tickety-boo » / « ça gaze » being referenced as Rampa / Aziraphale is being knocked down, which is… a real mistep. It was narratively significant and I’m quite mad the translators missed it.

The Jesse James explanation from Newt has become very nonsensical, instead of the neat and to the point pun « wherever I go I hold up trafic » we’re getting a circonvoluted « because it’s a crime to mechanic’s diligence ». I’m not judging that one too hard, I have no idea how to make it better, and that’s probably how it was translated in the book as well thirty years ago, but it definitely doesn’t have the same impact. On the other hand, it definitely IS a very bad joke that doesn’t even deserve a chuckle, so Anathema’s embarassement really matches the audience’s (aka mine).

OVERALL :

I wasn’t convinced by Crowley… I mean, Rampa’s voice at first, but as the nerdiness showed up it really grew on me. I still think that french dubs have often problems with some voice inflexions every here and there, and for instance in Rampa’s case it was when he was annoyed or frustrated ( at the Globe when complaining about horses and Shakespeare’s plays that aren’t comedies, and also when discussing Azirphale’s magic tricks, it’s like… there is a step between having the right amount of grumpy complaining and overdoing it that is overlooked. It’s overacted, it should have been a bit quieter imo. I don’t mean to criticize voice actors too hard either but as an audience watching french dubs this is a very recurring problem and it always feels off to me. It’s actually one of the main reasons I avoid french dubs whenever possible.)

I have a hard time judging Aziraphale’s voice dub because it clashes so much with both the idea I had formed with it when I read the book and Sheen’s delivery that I just… kinda filtered it. It was too high pitched for me, and too anxious (though for this last point I must admit it could be funny at times, but I’m not fond of this character portrayal). The rest of the cast was rather good, nothing to complain about. There wasn’t anything stellar either, but everything that needed to be conveyed was and it was professionnal. It was also very homogeneous, no voice really struck me as being way too bad or way too good compared to the others, so it was really consistant.

So I don’t have much to complain about overall despite a few wonky translations here and there, BUT there is one thing I felt very robbed of : Crowley calling Aziraphale « mon ange » happens only once, when giving a lift to Anathema, and I’m almost certain they translated it that way because otherwise the joke about Anathama mistaking them for a couple wouldn’t work. So, they were forced to make it that way. The rest of the time Crowley calls Aziraphale « l’angelot », and despite being literally translated by « little angel », it feels sarcastic more than anything else ( the « L’ » in front of « angelot » is part of the reason why, it creates some distance, the other reason being that this word in itself has a very corny vibe and people being affectionnate to each other wouldn’t use it as a term of endearment). So, that’s a shame.

I like the English dub much much MUCH better than the French, but the french wasn’t nearly as bad as I was expecting it to be. The voice actors and actresses were quite good, the dialogues mostly faithful and endearing despite a few really missed steps. It really had its moments. Props to brouter des derrières, that one was fantastic.

Look, I love them all but these have a special place in my heart.

Quackity, Slimecicle (I am fully aware he just joined but I still love him), Schlatt, Tubbo, Eret, AweSamdude, and Ponk.

They're just great in and out of character and just have comforting vibes.

when did you first start watching the smp and what made you get into it?

I gotten in during the Pogtopia era since it took me a while to get access to the streams.

I mainly gotten in with the Sad-ist War animatics along with me trying to catch up on Quackity's VODS. Just someone that I was already familiar with being an easier shift into story and learning others through him

what is your favourite part about watching the smp?

Just watching everyone interact with other and just seeing the plot progress in real time. Its literally just dnd but with extra steps but I enjoy it so much

The improv that they all do is amazing and how everyone have different approaches to their characters makes my writer's side so happy with dissecting everything.

What piece of cursed lore is your favourite

That Wilbur canonically fucked a fish and Philza canonically fucked a Samasung fridge and just seeing the fanbase try to change into something that will at least make a bit more sense.

Im included in this, I basically joined the side that has Sally being a mermaid shapeshifting pirate. Mainly because of pirate Fundy

Who is your favorite duo on the smp

Slimecicle and Ranboo: They're the same person but in different fonts, you can convince me otherwise

Schlatt and Quackity: They managed to be super funny together with all of the jokes and balanced with making a very realistic abusive relationship work. It was always fun seeing them flirt with each other for a joke then get hit with whiplash when canon comes in to remind me that this isnt healthy

Tubbo and Tommy: They're two dumbasses who share the same braincell but then they constantly lose it and Tubbo mainly has custody of it

Wilbur and Schlatt: I just enjoy seeing Schlatt messing with Wilbur and occasionally flirts with him to get Wilbur more pissed off

Who are your comfort streamers

Quackity and Slimecicle are comfort streamers

Eret, Fundy, and AweSamdude are my comfort people (meaning I dont watch them as much but I find comfort in their presence. And the other two are also under this category)

Quackity due to how complex his character is and yet how it looks so simple

Schlatt because is just a villian who knows how to play the game without getting caught

Tubbo, watching him trying to be hopeful with everything destroy around him and he just slowly become used to everything going wrong

AweSamdude because he is just trying his best to be a father figure others and I just got family issues

Who do you think the best actor(s) on the smp

Imma skip over the ones that we all already said and get into the ones that dont get enough praise

Quackity: Just how he managed to make his character seem so basic but in reality its really complex. And just seeing the shift from him being a chaotic force of nature to being a serious character that is trying his best to reach something that has been hanging over his head is just *chefs kiss* and he always delivers amazing lines on the spot.

BadBoyHalo: He is doing great right now, even though he is a bit rusty with starting he still manages to get into character and stay in character the entire time. When slowly easing in, you can tell its a bit forced but once he finds his footing, he knows how to deliver his lines.

AweSamdude: His entire bit where he was getting rescued from the egg fucking hurt. How he sounded weak from the entire thing and tired to where he just wanted to rest was so well. And I know he can act more energetic when he was accidentally dragged into playing a cop during Quackity's and Bad's date

Fundy: You guys need to give him more praise for his acting because he is fucking amazing at it. The little touches to how he voice when speaks is so good along with his body language in game. He knows what he's fucking doing and I love him for that. And when he snapped, it made complete sense if you payed attention to his character

I didnt add Ranboo because he's automatically at the top section due to him being a dnd player. Same goes to Slimecicle even though he hasnt acted yet. I dont make the rules. You play dnd, you know how to act

Before Doomsday, Quackity going to take his horse far away from L'Manberg, it being the one thing he cares about. It was just so good

The entire Schlatt and Quackity argument in front of the white house

The meeting between Schlatt and Quackity with Schlatt yelling out to him in a taunting way to where Tommy and Quackity are trying to figure out what happened to the tnt. I constantly rewatch it to feel the adrinaline pumping to feel something

Wilbur's slow descend into insanity and talking to Tommy. Just showing his paranoia and fears consuming him, him projecting his fears into Tommy as an attempt of manipulation, and his hero complex shift into villian one

Schlatt's winning speech of him projecting it as something that was bound to happen no matter what. The amount of charisma and confidence that was in his voice as I was watching Tommy hiding underground in fear was just a perfect scene

Tommy's argument with Dream when everyone is protecting Tommy. Its the small details of Tommy taunting Dream to kill him, knowing he wont no matter what. Him telling everyone to protect Tubbo and everyone listening without hesitation.

The debate that Quackity and Dream had for like 11 or 14 minutes. All of that was completely unprompted unscripted, it was just so satisfying seeing someone stand up against Dream for the first time and actually beating him. Sure it was in a verble conflict but it still counts as a defeat

Im sorry, but all of the Jackbox stream. You need a specific group of people to play together in order to actually make it funny and keeping the energy throughout the entire thing.

After a bit later, everyone has a tendency of pandering to the audience and repeat jokes. They managed to beat jokes to the ground faster than Tiktok AND Twitter.

Dont get me started with DreamTeam being in there. They're funny in thier own rights but the shipping jokes get so unfunny so quick and they dont know how bounce off of others well. The only exception to this is when Quackity, Velvet, and Ant were playing with Sapnap and Dream. And thats because they decided to mess with the straight white guys into accidently saying offensive shit and seeing those two suffer with trying tiptoe around was so amusing

Whats something about the smp fandom thay makes you sad

This doesnt get me sad, just frustrated and its mostly towards dsmptok and dsmptwt but sometimes this fandom doesnt fucking know how to analyze characters. Like when everyone jumped on Tubbo on being the bad guy when he was a kid trying to use old tatics that knows that worked before and stand up for himself

How when one person decides to do something that they believe is right, everyone just throws the term villian arc around

When one person does one good thing the suddenly everyone accepts into them being good and not ever looking into it.

For fucks sakes, I saw people keep saying that Quackity was turning into Dream or Wilbur and I just sat there being confused on how they conntected those dots that were in different books.

Its so frustrating to read through. But here on dsmpblr, you guys actually understand character analysis, are able to critique them and able to love whoever you enjoy.

Another thing is how this fanbase really puts everyone on a pedestal or objectify them. Just completely forgetting that they're human and treat the streamer as a character. Like, yeah they're playing up a persona whenever they're making content but theres a difference and you shouldn't hold them up like that.

You cant use the argument of "They're young, they dont know any better", when I first entered my first fandom (I was like 11/12), I fully understood that theres a boundary between me and the creator. What they are on screen is a persona but they're still human and I should treat them as such. Its just something that bugs me and its unnerving to see whenever people start getting wierd about it

Final bit is just how the twitch chat acts. They all force the streamer to follow the 'main' plot of it being Tommy or Techno or whoever the fandom chooses to have a favorite, completely ignoring the fact that they are their own character. No one wants to meta game because where is the fun in that but the fucking chat gets so annoying when the streamer goes against fanfavorite of the week. It drains the fun of it being multiple pov's and different characters.

When Slimecicle was barely starting stream I saw so many people spam "Go with Ranboo" and not let him even get into lore first. I hated that I knew it was coming but it was still so fucking frustrating seeing them try to boss him around. Please just let people live outside of the 'main' plot, not everything revolves around your favorites. Now shut the fuck up and let them play

Bianca Bosconero - Trivia

A compilation of little things I had yet to mention about her.

Rather than eating at the cafeteria, Bianca prepares her own food, it’s less expensive. 

She’s a decent cook. It may be surprising, but her cooking is more of the homely type, fairly simple and easy to make. Her diet is centered around vegetables and fruits, she also knows how to make good use of plants that may be considered weeds (such as nettles or mugwort).

Sometimes during his wanderings, Lucius ends up at the school’s library and always stays on the main desk when Bianca is working there. They’re kinda hanging out quietly, he even gets scratches and all. Because of that, they accidentally reach peak Librarian Cliché. 

While Malleus is the only one who witnessed (and caused) blackthorn blossoms to grow in her hair, when she’s in a really bad mood her usually silky wavy hair seems more... Twisted and thorny. Though it really takes a lot to cause that, so it’s a rare occurrence. 

Her current DnD (or the Twisted Wonderland equivalent lol) character is one half of a duo she makes with another player on the campaign they’re part of: two gnomes in a trenchcoat. It started as a joke to take the piss out of the DM but they ended up being surprisingly efficient rogues, despite their initial purpose as a meme character. Her favourite character to play is a 13yo delinquent with a strong chaotic good energy and a backstory that is one long joke.

She writes short stories and small series for the school’s newspaper. The current series is a parody of a fairly famous adventure series. It cases it wasn’t clear at this point, Bianca is not exactly the super serious type. 

She is absolutely part of a big forum for her favourite series of books, and feeds on all the theories and analysis, even the tinfoily ones. 

When she started her second second year, the first history of magic exam was a big fail for the entire class but her. She was surprised, then extremely embarrassed when Trein started quoting her essay as part of his “this is what you should all have done” speech. 

Because she repeated her second year and was absent for most of the previous one, her class didn’t really know her. That event signed her reputation as the one to go see when you slept through history of magic/want to improve your grade in that class. 

There’s no special reason for her to enjoy history. It just happened. When she was first introduced to that, it simply went like “oh this is great” in her head and it became her favourite topic/school subject. 

Because history is basically her favourite subject, she doesn’t understand how people could find Trein’s class boring. She doesn’t realise she’s deemed the weird one in return for not falling asleep through his class.

She dedicated herself to defensive magic (and, to a lesser extent, offensive magic) for the sake of holding her ground against her family.

There are a lot of professors and deans, because 3/4 of the players are artificers (don't question) and one of the main quests is related to universities.

Characters in alphabetical order:

Adam, gnome, 100+y.o.: Dean of Oseburgh university, loves biology, especially genetics, but does not like that he has to follow ethical guidelines, he says that that's slowing down progress

Claudia, human, 21y.o.: Johnny's little sister, with whom she lives, really caring and optimistic, but also quite concerned about her brother, because his daily routine is work, eat, sleep.

Craig, half orc, 39y.o.: Part of the Ahnford University staff. Teaches history and celestial (as in study of gods, not the language). Good friends with Xavril and Edrym.

Dometrius, half Elf/half Aasimar, 33y.o.: Flamboyant, smug, gay and eccentric. His eyes glow red and he knows a lot of stuff about the Hesinde and Nandus cult (The Dark Eye, not DnD). He used to be friends with Johnny, they had a really special relationship noone ever understood.

Edrym, Half Elf, 27y.o.: 3rd oldest of the Traleth siblings. Lost an eye and an ear in a lab accident as a student. Now works as a professor at Ahnford University. Really eccentric and a punk, also a bit insane, and has a small robo-lizard named Dibbs.

Elaith, Elf, 336y.o.: Mother of the Traleth Siblings, really caring but also really naiv. Has a bit of a chaotic persona, kinda like Edrym but not as horrible as him.

Eleonora, Half Elf, 2y.o.: Daughter of Talutius and Havrakhad, really shy and besides her parents and her brother, she only likes her godfather Litav. (She's two, the time where children hate every person that is not their parent)

Havrakhad, Kalashtar, 34y.o.: Talutius' husband and Ella’s adoptive father. Doctor in his town, loves nature and every living being, but he can also be really intimidating. But mostly he's really chill and rather quiet. Best friends with Litav.

Griz, Dragonborn, a few months old: Second adoptive child of Talutius and Havrakhad. When he's too excited his dragon's breath goes off. Can talk, but only a few sentences. He's learning.

Jaime, Yuan-Ti Pureblood-??? Mix, 22y.o.: Adam's adoptive daughter. Works as his assistant and replaces him when he's out of town, but that almost never happens. Rather quiet but really caring, but she hates when people goof around while they're actually supposed to work.

Jim, human, 63y.o.: Owner of a tavern and always grumpy. If you ask him for his most shittiest alcohol, he'll give you rubbing alcohol. Took care of Claudia and Johnny when they were kids, because their parents couldn't.

Johnny, Human, 30y.o.: His actual name is Gionata (Gianni), but he changed it because of several reasons. He has a little sister and a dog. Quite the workaholic and he gets nervous when he has nothing to do. Loves his job as substitute dean of Ahnford University, still complains a lot because his co-workers don't take him seriously. Really sweet and loving, but also emotional, dad of the group but when you make him angry, you will instantly regret it. He used to have anger issues.

Joseph, Elf, 289y.o.: Substitute dean of Xeles University. Dresses to impress, but is quite the snob. Dedicated himself to social sciences, especially psychology and economics. He despises Johnny and everything he does with a burning passion.

Kolec, dwarf, 250+y.o.: Dean of Breburg University. Really chill and would share some weed with you. Believes in the good of everyone and would help everyone to reach their full potential.

Litav, Half Elf, 29y.o.: 2nd oldest of the Traleth siblings. Has a prosthetic arm and works as a blacksmith. Loves cuddles and is really friendly. With him it's all fun and games until he gets irritated. And he gets irritated easily. Can turn into a dog.

Lonán, human, 55y.o.: Father of the Traleth siblings. Used to be a ranger, but even though he's retired, he still helps animals that are sick or injured. Has a small sheep farm.

Maelyss, Half Elf, 17y.o.: 3rd youngest of the Traleth siblings. Not a social person and likes machines more than everything that is alive. If you ask her about her opinion, she's really straight forward and she can be really mean. Built Litav his prosthetic arm. Doesn't care what others think about her.

Mariola, Aasimar, 20y.o.: Kolec's new assistant. Actually really shy but really competent in her field of work. Will soon become substitute dean and Kolec's really optimistic about that, because everyone loves Mariola.

Odva, Vedalken, 200+y.o.: Dean of Ahnford University. Really strict and wants her employees to do their work perfectly. Is really harsh to Johnny, but only because she knows he didn't reach his full potential. If you'd ask her who's her most competent and most important employee, she would say Johnny.

Persephone, Tiefling, 35y.o.: Dean of Xeles University. Unhappily married and everyone knows she'll be divorced soon. Rumors say she has a new lover and is pregnant with their child, but it's not confirmed.

Quirrel, Human, 28y.o.: A follower of the Hesinde cult. Lives in an abandoned temple and guards a holy artefact. It's said he's a really stoic person, but he's actually a huge goof. Can turn into a snake. Related to the Traleth siblings.

Rania, Half Elf, 15y.o.: 2nd youngest of the Traleth siblings. Wants to become a bard and loves to play her ocarina. Loves all of her siblings a lot, and looks up to all of them, especially Edrym.

Talutius, Half Elf, 31y.o.: Oldest of the Traleth siblings. Married to Havrakhad and they adopted two kids. Works as a tailor and never lets anyone wear old or washed out clothes. Really talkative. Litav likes to compare him with a poison dart frog: cute but deadly.

Thassam, Dwarf, 73y.o.: One of Litav's best friends and also his favourite customer. They spend a lot of time in Jim's tavern. Thassam can also be found at the black market in Ahnford rather often.

Thio, Yuan-Ti Pureblood-Elf-Mix, 16y.o.: Adam's other adoptive daughter and assistant. A real sunshine and full of energy. More interested in the experimental side of science and loves genetics, like her adoptive father.

Virici, Half Elf, 15y.o.: Youngest of the Traleth siblings and Rania's younger twin. Constantly in trouble for stealing or other thiefy stuff. Sees Xavril as his role model, who hates it and doesn't want his younger brother to become a rogue, like him.

Xavril/Zavreth, Half Elf, 23y.o.: Middle child of the Traleth siblings and really annoyed by them. He loves all of his siblings but is also fed up by them, especially Edrym. Ran away from home at the age of 13 to become an assassin. Keeps socializing to a minimum because he doesn't want other people to get in trouble because of him. Gives everyone silly nicknames.

Jared is the first to really be active on YT : he doesn’t have a big community until he starts streaming for eight hours straight ; he becomes unexpectedly popular.

his fanbase makes memes out of his ragequits or his ridiculous winning poses. 

He called his fans “children” one time and it stuck with them.

Every now and then he posts tutorials on how to fix tech junk, pretty much like that one guy he saw doing a big “FUCK U” to apple 

His channel’s name is TheInsanelyCoolJaredKleinman but it’s kind of a mouthful so the internet shortened it to TICJK. His intro is “*spinning chair* SUP FUCKERS THE INSANELY COOL JARED KLEINMAN HERE AND TODAY-”

Connor accidentally uploaded an unedited video and the algorithm pushes him in the front of the scene maybe six months after he posted it.

Most of his channel is just him sitting at his desk, often high, ranting about everything that is wrong in the world and how one can get better on a personal level.

His most popular vid is the one where he talks about beating depression and prevening suicide. He almost cries on camera.

His channel reeks of chaotic energy and people are here for it.

His channel’s name is murphyrules and his intro is “Okay so.”

Alana does pretty much the same thing as Connor, but in a more calm,  collected way. Her channel is all about feel-good activism.

A lot of her vids are recorded outside. She usually writes what she wants to say before she turns on her camera and checks multiple times that her arguments are fair and valid.

She’s very LGBTQ+ oriented and talks a lot about feminism and racism, and just equality in general.

Her fanbase is pretty small and chill, so she hosts a discord where her fans can talk together and reach out whenever they’re in need.

He channel’s name is just Alana Beck and her intro is generally a quote from someone probably famous followed by “Hello everyone, you’re in the good place.” She likes the Good Place.

Zoe starts later than the rest of the team, but really gets into it when she sees how much it helps Connor and wants to try it for herself.

She mostly posts covers of Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald‘s songs, but occasionally makes book reviews.

She’s probably the least connected to her fans, because they aren’t all that numerous and barely comment, but she always gets an excellent ratio views/likes.

Her style is a little messy but everyone sees how much potential she has and is encouraging her to impose herself more.

Her channel’s name is Soul’s Pulse. She doesn’t have a real intro, but she fingerguns more often than not.

Evan didn’t plan to become a youtuber at first.

He’s mostly in the background of the other’s vids, like sometimes he’s listening to music in Jared’s room during a livestream, or how he sits on Connor’s bed when he decides to film anything, because he’s often high and Evan doesn’t want him to get hurt while setting up his stuff, or he goes on walks with Alana and holds the camera for her when she vlogs outside so she can have her hands free, or sometimes he and Zoe discuss about a particular line in a song or a book and try to understand why it works the way it works.

But one day Jared edits out twenty seconds out of one of his streams and it’s just Evan rapping at the speed of fast on Guns and Ships and the internet basically exploses.

He’s not sure at first, but then under the insistant demands on his instagram and twitter he finally makes his own channel : turns out he’s very good at beatboxing, rapping and singing acapella, so he mostly does that for a while, but then branches out a little and starts doing his own rant videos about ecology and mental health.

His channel’s name is Ev Rants and his intro is “Today is a good day and here’s why.”

Collabs

Jared is, as often in their group, the first to be asked to do official collabs with his friends, and not just Evan or Alana walking by in the background.

Jared & Connor sometimes play together online on random games, and eventually get kicked out of their respective teams because they keep targeting each other no matter what the main goal is. They often end teaming up and beating everyone else’s ass.

Jared & Alana play strategy board games. It usually take them a whole day to get through a single game because they keep trying to one-up each other with ridiculous yet very effective tactics.

Jared & Zoe collab very rarely on Jared’s channel, but there are one or two videos of Zoe describing very cool mods she found for Skyrim.

Jared & Evan don’t really collab, it’s more like Evan tags along at some point during livestreams and acts like an unhelpful second driver, trying to give Jared directions. It’s very frustrating for both of them but very funny for the public.

Connor never titles his videos as collabs, and his thumbnails are always a black screen with the title on it, so it’s generally a surprise whenever there is someone else on screen.

Connor & Jared made a short series of videos where Jared looks at stuff on the internet and Connor has to tell if it’s true or made up.

Connor & Alana team up on subjects like white/male privilege or capitalism and make a lot of historical researches to understand where it comes from and why it still exists.

Connor & Zoe’s collabs are the more frequent as they live under the same roof. It’s always less-than-a-minute videos recorded with a phone, where one of the siblings does something stupid or weird, like accidentally setting fire to a frying pan.

Connor & Evan are both present in most of Connor’s videos, but Evan doesn’t always speak up. When he does, it turns into a question-answers kind of game about a specific topic until they both know enough about it to write a whole thesis.

Alana puts all the tags possible on her collabs, because she wants to make sure everyone knows that, yes, she actually has friends in real life.

Alana & Jared once tried to host a DnD night with the gang, but ended fighting over technicalities of the main quest. It’s probably the longest video on her channel to this day.

Alana & Connor vlog together when she finds a way to lure him outside of his house. They go to museums where Alana plays the guide and Connor makes snarky comments about everything, but they overall enjoy themselves.

Alana & Zoe decided from the start that their collabs would never be heavy themed, so they do a lot of challenges - or at least the non-dangerous or stupid ones - and tags and asks videos.

Alana & Evan love to record their treks in the mountains or in the forest, because Evan has an impressive memory when it comes to trees and plants, and Alana is always eager to learn.

Zoe gets more important once the others include her in their videos, but there is always the idea that her subs are here for her and her only.

Zoe & Jared make vine compilations. That’s it, that’s all they do.

Zoe & Connor made one (1) cover together on a random song and for some reason it’s now a daily thing.

Zoe & Alana talk a lot about music theory when they are together. Sometimes they also do wholesome memes and satisfying sped-up videos of the two of them cleaning a whole room.

Zoe & Evan sing a lot acapella when they have the time, and if they don’t they just review cartoons. (Zoe has a thing for Steven Universe, but shhh.)

Evan & Jared come up with game theories when they collab on Evan’s channel. The most popular video about it is the one where they realized the theme songs of the characters in Undertale are always connected to one another.

Evan & Connor make sure to film together once every five videos. They don’t always know what they will be talking about, but Evan just hit the record button and they spend the afternoon together, after what he edits it out and keeps the important parts.

Evan & Alana do yoga on saturdays, sometimes with Connor as a special guest. It never goes as planned and always ends in laughter when one of them inevitably slips and falls.

Evan & Zoe’s collabs are kind of messy when it’s on Evan’s channel, but it’s always wonky DIY and weird cooking recipes they found online. They sing together while working.

Group channel

Alana is the one who thinks of it, because she’s been asked multiple times on her Discord if she would do a Q&A, and most of the questions are about her relationships with the other members of the team.

They call the channel Dear Unholy Five after the first meme to come out is all five responding “porn”at the same time at the question “what did the internet brought you that you would never have learned in school ?”

Zoe does most of the group challenges on this channel instead of her own, like making everyone’s makeup - this one was a disaster, they had no idea what they were doing - or watching terrible movies and commenting it.

Connor uses the channel as an excuse to play ouija. Evan is lowkey the only one enjoying himself, weirdly enough. Jared jokes that Evan has a supernatural kink on top of the tree one. “Ghost tree kink” becomes a new meme within the community.

Jared just loves being asked stuff.

The community

Because the group is close-knitted and is used to read each-other’s comments, Zoe quickly notices that some of their fans are starting to shipping them. While her and Alana’s relationship isn’t a secret - they hold hands in various vlogs and sometimes even kiss on camera, and no one really made a big deal about it - Evan isn’t officially out of the closet, Jared’s SO prefers to keep their identity private and Connor isn’t the most comfortable around feelings.

As it starts happening more and more often, Connor and Evan figure out that whatever is between them doesn’t need to make it on the internet, so they don’t confirm nor deny anything.

It only fuels the fanbase more, but because they’re such a small community based on each other’s respect and privacy they don’t pry too much, and when anyone starts to be too nosy the rest of the fanbase quickly shut them down. There are however the occasional shippers who never miss anything on screen and notice whenever Connor makes heart-eyes at Evan, or when Evan becomes flustered by Connor’s proximity.

Zoe is the one unexpectedly confirming the theories when she records the two boys singing Marianas Trench at two in the morning, and Connor suddenly kisses Evan in the middle of Here’s to the Zeros and resumes on singing like it’s nothing. The bad quality of the video doesn’t stop it from trending, before Zoe finally takes it down on Evan’s request.

The fans stay respectful of their wish for privacy, and after the first wave of hype it just becomes common knowledge that they’re together. (It doesn’t stop Connor from killing his fans a little whenever he and Evan swap clothes, though.)

Starlight I need advice!!!! My friends and I are starting our d&d campaign today and we are all fairly new to the d&d scene. This is my 1st time playing an actual campaign and my friends 1st dming. Ive come up with a wicked cool character but im afraid to use her cuz I feel like since we are both so new we wont do her justice. I also feel like I wont be able to make such an awesome character again and i just dont know what to do....

HERE IS MY ADVICE:

PLAY THE CHARACTER.

HERE ENDETH THE ADVICE

(Not seriously, there’s more in-depth advice under the cut, but the TL;DR is play the character.)

Okay, so, here’s the thing, in a little more detail.  First of all, the more passionately engaged with a character you are, the easier it’ll be to chill out a little and really get into the roleplay.  DnD is a collaborative effort, which means that the group will feed off each other’s energy when it comes to RP, so if you are committed to being in character, it will make it easier for your DM friend to jump in with both feet, and vice versa.  So, you play a character you’re really into, and your DM is more likely to feel able to metaphorically swing for the fences with really wild worldbuilding and cool NPCs and shit without worrying that their players are going to make fun of them.  The first time I DM’d, I had four kind of nervous players and one kid who rolled the fuck up with his satyr bard and seduced the first person they talked to, no leadup, no self-consciousness, just a really shitty pickup line and a clutch Charisma check.  It was instantly so much easier for me to get into character playing the NPCs, because I had someone to work with who was really into his character.  (As a reward I let him marry the guy he seduced and become prince consort, but that’s another story.)

Second of all, let me tell you the secret to making sure your DM does right by a character: tell your DM everything about their backstory.  Give your DM all the dirt.  Obviously every character should get their turn in the spotlight, but DMs are most likely to give your character the narrative arc they deserve if they have a couple good hooks to work with.  Build your character with the DM, or talk to the DM about how your character is really feeling after sessions, or whatever!  Geek out about your characters with your DM--they will get good material to work with, you will get assurance that they are as excited to put you through the wringer as you are to be put through the wringer, and you both get to revel in your mutual brilliance at coming up with this shit.

Conversely, ask your DM lots of questions about the world!  Keep in mind your character’s backstory, and always be ready to ask if you would know something based on where you come from/what you’ve done!  The more attention you pay to the world around you, the more detailed the DM can get!  I might suggest a notebook, at least for the important shit, unless you are very confident in your memory.

Third, a couple random pointers on RP to enhance the rest of this advice:

Minimize metagaming--all planning should happen in character, and you can get a lot more character development out of it than you’d think.  Is your character impulsive?  Is she given to building elaborate plans?  Is she a ‘fireball first, ask questions never’ kind of person?  The less you break character to debate where you want to travel to or how you want to kill that hydra, the more natural it’ll feel when you inevitably come to those points of “...hey, this might seem like a bad fucking idea, but it’s what the character would do, so I would like to attack the guard” or whatever bad decision your character is about to make.  To which end...

Sometimes your character will make a decision that makes sense for them but that you personally would never make, know is idiotic, or just flat-out know your party won’t like.  Don’t make those choices because you want to annoy your party, but don’t be afraid to commit to the way your character thinks.  Any good DM will tell you to play the character, even if you’re about to take their delicately-constructed plot and smash it like so much fine china.

Play your alignment hard if you’re using one.  Most beginners go with Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Good, occasionally Neutral Good, and I 100% support those choices.  But keep in mind what that alignment means to your character.  Are they Chaotic because they just don’t give a damn one way or another, or because they legitimately believe that governmental bodies have ill intent?  Conversely, are they Good-With-Intent, meaning they actively seek ways to do good deeds and oppose what they view to be some kind of evil force, or are they Good-By-Nature, someone who is mostly good-aligned because they tend to be extremely kindhearted?  Someone might be both, but those two are not the same thing.  I usually phrase this as “Do you believe in laws or individuals?  Are you interested in the good of the general public, or your own gain?  Why?”  If you’re playing with an alignment system, think about what specifically your character values that they’ve fallen under their alignment.  Much like there should never be such a thing as a boring class, there should never be such a thing as a boring alignment--get as much mileage out of it as you can.

More than anything else, have fun with it!  Get in touch with your inner six-year-old who made up overwrought stories and overpowered characters for games of pretend, introduce that child to your adult self’s grasp of dice mechanics, and fucking go for it.  It is always so totally worth it to go all-in on a DnD character, and if you’ve made up someone you love, by all means, go fucking hard playing them.  The fear that you’re not going to do right by a character because you’re new is an understandable one, but let me assure you of two things.

You will have so much more fun playing a character you’re passionate about than one you made up as a place-holder, and the more fun you have, the more engaged you’ll be, and the better the whole game will go for everyone involved.

You will always be passionately into a new RPG character.  I have made up Stock Elf Druid No. 5, Sarcastic Uncharismatic Model, and been really hype about it.  On the other hand, I have made up Overworked Overtired Superhuman Twenty-Something, Possibly Possessed By Cthulhu And Real Mad About It, a character who honestly I’d write an original novel about if I wasn’t going to use her in a Masks campaign, and been equally thrilled with every step.  You have this character!  She sounds dope!  Use her in this campaign!  Your best character concepts are not the fine china, you don’t have to wait and only break them out on special occasions!  Don’t worry, I promise you’ll love your next character too.  She’s not the end of your creativity, when it comes to making up characters--if you decide to keep playing TTRPGs, she’s just the beginning.

As promised, TL;DR: PLAY THE CHARACTER.

ayo whattup krease i’m sorry i use that joke everywhere because i’m a one trick pony but - hi everyone i bring to you my chaotic daughter son chaewon!! if she was a dnd character she’d be the bard who rolls to seduce the dragon your party is supposed to kill with full confidence and then. fails. quick stats: she’s twenty two, editor of the yangwon herald, aka our local weekly newspaper, and also a glorified maid @ her family’s pension! yangwon born and raised and she’s literally never left except for like 2 months for university ( ha... long story ).

SOME MORE INFO:

so yeah her parents used to run the newspaper which was a daily instead of a weekly with its own quaint office and everything! but the business took a big hit once people started leaving and internet became a thing in yangwon. chaewon basically stepped in to take over - cut it down to a weekly paper, moved their office to one cramped room in the community centre, and fired like, everyone

basically she’s editor-in-chief now but she also writes a lot of articles to fill in where she has to! her parents have moved on and now run a pension on the outskirts of town. chaewon also pitches in there as a maid/housekeeper/sentient roomba but doesn’t get paid for it so it shouldn’t count as a job

she lives in town though at her grandparents’ place - they spend summers in yangwon so the rest of the year she’s basically just a house-sitter ( or a squatter if you’re feeling less generous ). she has a dog but it’s so f*cking lonely because it’s a big ass house

anyways growing up she kind of used to be seen as a genius kid because both her older brothers are geniuses. it was like a ‘runs in the family’ thing except PSYCHE it doesn’t. more on that later though

so she was a terrible, terrible kid. like she had all this mental & physical energy pent up because she wasn’t being challenged in school or in life so she took it out by messing with people aka she was a baby prank master and made a police officer cry once! as a kid! the power! 

when people found out she was heading out of town for university because she got a partial scholarship, they were so relieved... so blessed... and chaewon was like later losers i’m gonna tear this shit up but that didn’t happen

like sure she was hot shit in yangwon growing up but the minute she left to attend university in seoul? chaewon realized that she wasn’t that special after all, had a breakdown, and then rolled back into town two months after the semester like surprise bitch. except maybe less sass and more shame

she got a diploma in digital communications and media from baeksu instead and she was back to old tricks in no time like... yangwon is her home and it’s the one place she can be larger than life!! what if this is the only place she can thrive and anywhere else she’s destined to fail because she’s just not as good as she thinks she is?

anyways, catch her wearing shades indoors and eavesdropping on your conversations... no crippling self doubt here only chaewon being chaotic

uhhh gushing about a DnD character I made under the cut, I have a lot of creative energy involved and no other outlets besides this blog 

Still working on a name (suggestions welcome) but I’m thinking it’ll be something to do with the colour blue. Blue is the colour of lightning in dragons, and I wanna do some themeing around it (more on themes later). With that and her being a Tiefling in mind, I gave her blue hair and a pixie cut. Her skin is a bright red, almost pink (maybe just full pink?). She’s short, but not abnormally short, and she’s built like an athlete. She has short, red horns, about an inch long, ringing her head like an offset crown, with 4 on one side and 3 on the other.

She’s a Tiefling Sorcerer who feels the call of her infernal heritage, manifested as a curse on her. This curse gives her arcane powers, but she has next to no control over them. This means that she can’t touch people without shocking them (as per the Shocking Grasp cantrip). I’m still nailing down her family life/upbringing but I think I’m going to have her spend her adolescent years at a church of some lawful-good god, where she will recieve special rubber gloves that let her touch things, but I’m not super solid on that yet. For example, an earlier draft had her running with a small-time group of thieves to survive. 

Regardless of the specifics, something goes Bad, and she sets out on her own (either by choice or exile) and joins up with others to accomplish whatever the DM has planned for us. She doesn’t have any big ambitions in life, she’s mostly just drifting until she finds a place to call home, and to do that she first has to break her curse. I try to keep this portion vague so she can fit into 99% of adventuring parties, and because her alignment is chaotic-neutral she can jive with most parties.

Behaviorly, she’s constantly torn between her desire to do good (possibly represented by her devotion to a god?) and the curse of Asmodeous (or some other demon king) pulling her towards evil. I know, I know, this is basically the Child Of Bhaal thing from Balders Gate but it’s *MY* self-insert OC and *I* get to choose the cliches.

I found a weird combat trick in Shocking Grasp and a few other spells, and built her mechanical kit around that. SG at first glance kinda sucks, at least compared to other cantrips. Ray Of Frost slows the target, and Firebolt does more damage, but I found a mostly-forgotten line of text; Shocking Grasp denies the target their reaction until their next turn. From there, all the pieces fell into place. Expeditious Retreat is a 1st level spell that casts as a bonus action and let’s her dash as a bonus action, which means I can run up to a target, smack ‘em with the lightning fist, and then run away, all without being hit. Throw in Shield for protection, and Misty Step at the 2nd level slot for when you miss the punch, and you have a really, really annoying melee fighter that dances around combat. I took the Dragon subclass from the PHB, and intend to re-flavour the specifics to be more demon-like than dragon, and write it all as part of my curse/infernal heritage. 

That sub-class gives me extra hit points and better armour class, both of which I’m desperate for. I intend to have Shocking Grasp as my primary (if not /only/) damage spell, and to use I have to put myself into danger. I hope to use my other spells to be fast enough to deny enemies the chance to hit me, but that’s impossible to guarantee, and I don’t want to be so frail as to go down in a single hit. 

While my spells are primarily movement and protection based, I’ll be grabbing a few others to patch up holes in my kit. First up is the Friends cantrip, something I plan on using anytime our Heroin run afoul of a guard suspicious of her tail, or a drunkard trying to show off to his friends. If I find this particularily useful, I’ll follow it up with more charm effects. If not, more mobility options are always useful. Fly, Levitate, Spider Climb, and Invisibility, all help close or extend the gap between her and danger. Counterspell is a personal favourite of mine, and gives her an interesting niche as an anti-mage in combat. between Misty Step and Expeditious Retreat she can quickly close to melee range with unsuspecting Wizards and procede to beat them with her (relatively) high AC and denying any powerful spells with the counter.  

I always like having a few vague themes to help guide roleplay decisions, and our lil lightning rod is no exception. First, let’s get the obvious out of the way; yes she’s a tiefling cuz trans. This was my starting point and it’s influenced every other part, and is inescapable. The curse works as a metaphor for my trans experiences, with the wonderful feelings of gender euphoria being the literal magic she uses, and dysphoria being her lack of control over it. It’s not perfect, and it’ll need some actual play to smooth out, but it’s a good theme to build around. 

Beyond that, the number 7 is often associated with magic, especially wild, uncontrolled magic, and so is something I’ll consciously gravitate towards. Blue and Red are colours of magic in Magic The Gathering, and (when paired together) are the colours of creativity, the breaking of new ground and old limits, and spontaneity. I briefly mentioned the good/evil internal struggle earlier, but it’s pretty basic and straight forward and I don’t feel compelled to expand further on the concept. 

Her hands shocking whatever she touches is an expression of my feelings of isolation and dysphoria. When I feel gross and out of place I often see my own impact on social situations as harmful and worry that I will never find true love or even a home. So, to express that, our girl has a Pushing Daisies thing going on, where she has to avoid skin-to-skin contact with other people.
