#it’s not realistic but i think it would be hilarious if bruce just let jason get away with anything after he comes back

the rest of the justice league: hey man, we get that he’s your son and all, but shouldn’t you do something about him?
bruce ‘that’s my precious baby boy’ wayne: i’m sorry, did you have to hold your son as he was dying in your arms? did you almost k*ll yourself trying to follow him to the afterlife? i don’t think so.

tim drake for the ask game?
Oh heck yeah. I did not expect to get my boy Timbers. Wow, I’m gonna have to dust off my Batfam knowledge, its been a hot second since I’ve really been in the fandom, or honestly even read any comics. Hmm ok let’s see..help my mind is going blank lol
realistic: Tim makes jokes about his missing spleen when he gets tired of Jason talking about how he died.
while it may not be realistic it is hilarious: the real reason Tim decided to have his Drake ‘the most dangerous bird’ phase is because he’s secretly afraid of ducks.
heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends: can’t think of anything more heart-crushing then the canon fact that Tim low key went insane trying to prove Bruce was still alive a few continuities back and then…when he ‘died’…nobody did that for him. Like we deserved to see somebody tearing their hair out over Tim while everybody thought they were just grieving really hard.
unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own: Red Robin once saved a cook from a would-be mugger. The man was very grateful. So grateful, that he decided to name his up-and-coming restaurant after him.

Cass and Tim for the hc thing? 👀
<3
Here you go <3
Cass
A) What I think realistically
Cass doesn’t instinctively respond verbally. If someone asks her a question or says hi, her automatic responses are physical, like a nod or a wave. She doesn’t respond verbally unless she needs to, like if she's asked an open-ended question and a simple nod or head shake won’t suffice
B) What I think is hilarious
Cass is one of the most affectionate members of the batfamily. She’s also the only one who can get away with hugging anyone, despite their grumpiness. She gleefully uses this power (mostly for good, sometimes for evil). She can tell when they don't want to be touched from their body language, and she won’t hug anyone when they don’t want it. But she will hug them when it’s embarassing
C) What is soul-crushing and awful but fun to inflict on friends
Cass always knows what her family really means, even when they won’t say it. It can be unbearable for her to be around an argument because she can see when it’s just a miscommunication. She knows that Bruce is only angry because one of his kids got hurt and it scares him, or that Damian is only lashing out because he’s lonely. She hates that they can’t just say what they mean, when they’re the ones who don’t have to struggle with speaking the way she does
She’ll try to step in and mediate, but she doesn’t always have the words to fix it, and that only leaves her more frustrated
D) Would never work with canon, but canon is shit so I believe it anyway
@DC let Cass be a lesbian
Tim
A) What I think realistically
Tim’s autistic, and has a really hard time with social cues and boundaries. He can sometimes come off as overly serious because he can’t always tell when someone is joking or being sarcastic. Sometimes he’ll respond seriously even when he knows something is a joke because that’s just how his brain works
B) What I think is hilarious
Tim has collected a whole mess of nicknames, mostly bastardizations of his name courtesy of his siblings. Some of his least favorites are Timbourine, Timbelina, and Timberly. These are mostly Jason’s fault
C) What is soul-crushing and awful but fun to inflict on friends
Tim still sometimes flinches if Jason or Damian move toward him too quickly. He can usually control it so no one else notices, but there’s still the instinct to get away before he gets hurt. One time Jason reached out to ruffle Tim’s hair and gave him a panic attack. They both felt awful and guilty after that. Tim thinks he should be over it, since he’s made up with both of them, but he can’t just out-logic his trauma
D) Would never work with canon, but canon is shit so I believe it anyway
This boy is trans! He also has an amount of money set aside in his monthly budget to donate to crowdfunding pages for trans people who can’t afford to transition. It’s enough to fully fund several each month, and he does it anonymously. He doesn’t want any attention or press coverage, he just recognizes that he’s lucky enough to have the money to transition and wants to pay it forward

hi!! tim or bruce headcanons for the ask game??
u kno what, ill do both
tim:
REALISTIC:
he’s not obsessed w coffee, thats based off a single panel one time, i think instead he has a soda addiction. he drinks nothing but zesti. sure he’ll drink water and gatorade and coffee if hes desperate and he’ll join alfred for a cuppa when hes having afternoon tea but 98% of the time tim will pick up a zesti. usually grape flavour. he thinks soder is fucking disgusting
HILARIOUS:
modern tim would have a vine or tiktok depending on the era and its entirely him fucking up parkour or skateboard tricks. it started cause he stacked by accident when ives was helping him film one but it did numbers so he kept doing it and now he has a valid excuse for any robin injury. his most popular one is him trying to jump off his skateboard and parkour over the balcony at the manor but instead it ends with a broken wrist
HEART-WRENCHING:
some mornings tim wakes up and remembers that all his family and friends who died, died, and then is so relieved to remember they’re alive. except for his mum and dad. and that always hurts the most
WHATS NOT CANON (BUT SHOULD BE):
he’s gay. tim is gay. comphet tim stuck in the closet cause deecee are COWARDS
k now bruce:
REALISTIC:
clark is his best friend for a reason, they catch up out of costume at least once a month at a diner in metropolis and talk about inconsequential stuff that doesnt matter and just chill. they dont worry about batman or superman. theyre just bruce and clark, friends, catching up for lunch. clark pays more often than not jsut cause bruce pays for everything else and its nice to treat him for once
HILARIOUS:
bruce understands memes. he has too many kids not to. but he pretends he doesnt know what they are just so he can properly drop a fully comprehensive reference when they least expect it. using yeet in every day language would be too easy, bruce will wait until he’s driving jason back to his apartment with his broken leg and see a sign and go “road work ahead? i sure hope it does” and jason is forced to accept no one will believe him
HEART-WRENCHING:
bruce sometimes lets himself think of alfred as his father because he raised him, but alfred can never truly fill that hole in his life and bruce feels its a betrayal to thomas any time he thinks as much.
WHATS NOT CANON (BUT SHOULD BE):
obviously bruce is bi. hes bisexual. he and harvey were in love and he had a short fling with clark. maybe bruce lowkey had a thing for commissioner gordon once. lets not get started on selina and her strap on and lois’ jokes about threesomes with her and bruce. bruce is bi.

for the character headcannons ask game, jason and cass?
ALRIGHT ALRIGHT im putting this one under a cut because it got SUPER long bc i cant shut up ever
lets start w jason
A (realistic headcanon):
ok using the ‘realistic’ category here loosely but GOD i love the idea of Damian & Jason having interacted while Jason was staying with the League before getting dunked in the Lazarus Pit. like. this obviously would need to be set more in preboot and following the Lost Days & Batman Annual 25 version of Jason’s resurrection, but god the idea of it just makes me scream in a good way. Like... these are things Jason likely doesn’t remember very clearly once he’s brought back to life more fully by the pit because he was uh pretty catatonic, but Damian being a little kid and knowing about the boy that his mother keeps around the base, that she’s trying to help bring back to health. Damian not even knowing that’s his big brother, just that he’s a presence that shares his mother’s attention. Jason again being unresponsive but like, ok god you know that part of lost days where Talia shows the others observing him that he only fights back at those he perceives as genuine threats trying to hurt him,
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because Jason can perceive that she’s safe, she’s not actually trying to hurt him, he trusts her because she saved him? thinking about lil child Damian who is ya know already being trained in fighting stuff and like the idea of him trying to provoke Jason just to see what happens but Jason not fighting back because on some level be it his connection to Talia or even little baby Damian visually reminding him of Bruce, he knows that Damian is safe too 🥺
and then when Jason and Damian meet again in Gotham as Red Hood & Robin respectively, Jason not really remembering because there was so much going on back then for him, but Damian realizing that oh... that was Him
B (hilarious):
alright so if we are looking at comics currently, in modern stuff jason is what, like 22? hes old enough to drink in the US but still definitely early 20s so around my around my age, thats what im using as a basis here. if we adjust timeline and still consider his death having happened when he was 15, that puts it around 2013. and then coming back to like interacting with people about three years later if we still kinda base things off of the preboot timeframe (since we never got a super solid retelling of the timeline of death -> resurrection -> training -> tries to get revenge aside from knowing he went to the all-caste instead of the lost days version of the story) making him reenter the regular world and stuff around age 18 in 2016. meaning a solid three years of pop culture that he was entirely missing, and like im sorry but he really doesn’t strike me as the type to bother looking into what he missed, he’s kinda busy focusing on other stuff. lets take a quick look at some major things from those years. 2013 gave us ‘what does the fox say’ and ‘the harlem shake’ . 2014 had that time U2 just put a fuckin album on everyone’s phones, The Fault In Our Stars movie came out. 2015 introduced the phrase ‘Netflix and Chill’ and the whole blue & black vs gold & white dress debate happened. imagine any of the other batkids (or even arguably roy during rhato stuff) bringing these things up and jason’s ensuing confusion. thank you for your time
C (heart-crushing):
so. there are two specific instances from rebirth era Jason i want to bring up here and much like a lot of these it’s less a headcanon and more of an inference based on observations, but i wanna take a sec to discuss Jason’s relationship with other people’s death. early in rebirth, Tim ‘dies’ from that whole thing in detective comics. he didn’t actually die, we as readers know, but in-universe they all very much so thought he was dead. frustratingly a lot of the batfam wasn’t really shown mourning him aside from in the Detective Comics Rebirth title itself (which just. when a major character dies even if its temporary- that should have a ripple effect) BUT an exception to that is in RHATO 2016, where we get this offhanded comment in Jason’s internal monologuing
Tumblr media
similarly later when Roy, who like, had an incredibly close relationship w Jason that had just gotten mended before Heroes in Crisis, gets fuckin murdered in that whole thing... Jason doesn’t go to his funeral either. He leaves a dramatic voice mail and then visits the grave on his own later, choosing to instead keep working on the mission they’d started rather than going and taking the time to mourn properly.
Jason’s relationship with death is incredibly complicated, obviously. He has died, he has come back, and he now is willing to cross the line most other bats won’t and will kill people when he deems it necessary. I think thats something important though- he doesn’t just like... go around killing for fun (usually, some writers preboot made him a little murder happy but even then usually this still was vaguely followed) he kills people he thinks deserved it. Like, even looking back at the mess of Morrison’s Jason during Batman & Robin 2009, Jason was still trying to bring a sense of justice with who he was killing (”punishment that fits the crime”), it wasn’t killing for the sake of killing. He sees things in this kind of almost black and white ‘people who deserve it’ and ‘people who don’t’ way, and he has no problem dealing with death when it’s with the people he thinks deserve it.
but when someone who doesn’t in his mind ‘deserve it’ gets killed? i think he just goes into total avoidance mode. throws himself into other things he’s doing, tries not to dwell on it too much no matter how much he still thinks about it (this is especially evident in him consistently telling people “i’m fine!” after what happened to Roy, despite bringing Roy up literally like every few issues for a WHILE after he died and very clearly still struggling with it, Artemis is the only one who gets through to him on it a little bit)
but yeah, I just think that from Jason’s relatively unique situation of having been murdered, he knows what it’s like and he is perfectly fine wishing that on people he thinks are bad and deserve it, but it crushes him to imagine the people he loves and cares about having to experience something as painful as what he went through. not to mention the whole “I came back, why do I get a second chance at all this when they, who are a much better person than I am, probably won’t” mindset we get some implications of him having
D (canon is a coward and won’t)
hello DC i am once again insisting a batfam member is bisexual
CASS TIME
A (realistic headcanon):
ok so we know cass likes ballet. thats canon. however i think we also should in general explore cass experiencing other types of dance/performance as well, be it herself as a performer or even just watching. like... god imagine her & like my brain just automatically for group activities puts her with tim steph and duke but also for this in particular I feel would be a Jason embraced activity, but like them going to see a broadway show or some other professional theatre or something, and her just being enthralled by the reading of body language of the performers! like again by any point in current stuff cass does have like, the ability to speak fine (reading still hard tho) but even so I think like. okay im a theatre kid if that’s not obvious from the Everything About Me but one thing I always do after seeing a show is ya know spend dinner afterwards discussing it with whoever i saw it with.
I just think that like, bringing those people i just mentioned to the table to discuss seeing a show after would be so FASCINATING because cass would bring this whole perspective of critiquing their acting on a whole different level- not based on how well they delivered lines out loud, but by what their body language was saying as they moved on stage. like im very amused by the idea of cass getting a totally different picture in her mind about what a character’s motivations were because she was paying way more attention to what their physicality was saying vs the words that were written and how they were delivered. i think the debates her and the others would have would be EPIC there. jason defending the text as it was written adamantly and cass being like ‘ok yeah sure but thats not what they did’
B (hilarious):
cass having no concept of money because why would she bother? is SO funny to me. like it’s not that she couldn’t be reasonable if she wanted to, but like, she knows that the Waynes are well off so it’s not something she actually needs to be concerned about, so she just goes hog wild. takes steph out to fancy dinners and makes steph order for them since cass ya know doesn’t really read the menus, and steph’s like ‘jesus christ this costs-” “don’t worry about it” “but cass-” and she just holds up one of bruce’s credit cards and steph’s still like “but you don’t even know the range-” “it is fine”
bruce does not have the heart to tell her to stop
C (heart-crushing):
i mean this is pretty much canon but especially now after death metal where she’s remembering, not just being told by a guy using weird alternate timeline technology, that she used to be an adopted member of the Wayne family... like that hurts so bad. To look at these people who have ya know been kind to her, Bruce has still been a father-like figure to her (i mean literally from the moment they met in New 52 canon during the flashback in Batman & Robin Eternal, where he’s telling her that she’s not a monster just because of what people forced her to do.... that she’s a hero... that hug.... dad behavior), and they do to some extent treat her as family... But to then really know, to feel and remember that she was actually adopted! She was a part of their family. To look at how she’s been calling herself Orphan while working with them this whole time... that’s so heartbreaking! I have cried about this idea so much! I want so badly a conversation between her and Bruce now where he offers to officially adopt her again, I need it so bad and if it doesn’t happen at some point in the next year or two I will be so distraught.
D (canon is a coward and won’t)
i want an in-depth exploration of cass’ relationship to her own gender. being raised without language and you know with so much of her life being independent (remember: CASS RAN AWAY AROUND THE WORLD WITHOUT REALLY KNOWING ANY SPOKEN LANGUAGE) and outside of an organized society impressing too much of gender expectations on her, i feel like the way she experiences it would be very unique! like sure she’s so far been fine with being assigned ‘girl’ (ya know that comes with batgirl, and how people just automatically treated her based on how she looks) but in terms of gender expression and like her actual relationship with ‘traditional femininity’ etc like... because of how she was raised I just think she’d have a really different perspective on it that could be cool to explore, and I think she’d fall outside of the binary after she really thinks about how she identifies.
tldr on that: she/they nb cass is what i’m getting at here

Dirty and Useless (Part 10)
Summary: Jason Todd had always said there were only two types of cop; Dirty and Useless. So when Y/N comes along with a spunky partner and a laughable code name it’s safe to say they don’t exactly see eye to eye. But if they’ve got anything in common it’s their secrets. Both are hiding behind masks whether they know it or not. Will the Robin get the Nightingale to come out of the shadows? Pairing: Titans!Jason Todd x Reader Word Count: 1449 Warnings: Swearing
Tumblr media
There were many things that Jason Todd would never admit to anyone. The fact that he craved comfort and affirmation was one of those things. The fact that he often found himself in the alley behind his school with new bruises down his side was another one of those things.
Gotham Academy wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. Not that he’d expected anything else but coming into the school – which Bruce practically owned – he’d expected a little more respect. From teachers, he’d heard all about how Dick Grayson had been a mathlete and a social butterfly.
While Jason was more into literature and time spent alone, he had at least assumed that people would be polite. He hadn’t come from a wealthy family but people like him – the Wards of billionaires who own half of Gotham – were supposed to be begrudgingly respected at the very least. Right?
Apparently, he was very, very wrong. In his first week, the other students had made it explicitly clear what they thought about him. Street rat was a name he’d thought had been left behind when he joined Batman’s crusade but the snotty rich boys at the Academy seemed to like it. Although the female population seemed to like Pity Case much better.
“Fuck you, Gregory,” Jason spat up at the rich kid gangs ring-leader.
The brunette snob gargled out in a clearly fake British accent, “Stay down, street rat. Wouldn’t want to have to call your fake dad.”
“I bet he’s never even met a Wayne,” Gregory’s current bottle blonde girlfriend added. “Why would they associate with a pity case like him anyway?”
Jason fumbled to his feet and reminded himself for what seemed like the umpteenth time that day, that he was supposed to be just like them. He was supposed to play his role as protégé son, a rich boy who couldn’t throw a punch. According to Bruce and his disappointment speeches, Dick Grayson had caught on much quicker.
“Of course, I’ve met the Wayne’s,” Jason bit out, “I’m the one who tracked down Y/N Wayne and brought her back to Gotham.”
He knew it was a cheap boast, he had been the one to “find” her but if Y/N hadn’t wanted to return to Gotham, she wouldn’t have. Realistically he hadn’t done shit to find the girl, he’d just been in Chicago at the right time. But Nightingale had taught him something important – it was about wielding symbols. And despite all that the girl could argue, Y/N Wayne was as powerful a symbol as any.
“You talk a lot of shit, Todd.” Gregory brushed at an invisible speck of dirt on his blazer before turning, “Prove it or I’ll make you pay for lying to me.”
Jason really really should learn to keep his mouth shut.
***
It was lunch, four hellish lessons down and he’d finally been given a break. Although sitting under a tree at the front of the academy, trying not to draw too much attention and keeping an eye out for Gregory seemed just as stressful. It was usually at lunch that the boy returned to follow up on whatever threat he’d made to Jason the morning earlier.
“What are you doing hiding out here Street Rat?” Speak of the devil.“Waiting for your fake girlfriend-slash-sister? You know that’s kinda messed up right?”
“Funny, coming from an asshole.” Was all Jason allowed himself to say. He was worried that if he said anything more it would be accompanied by his fist in Gregory’s face.
The bottle-blonde and one of Gregory’s henchmen began giggling, “I bet he’s just dating her to make sure the Wayne’s don’t get rid of him.”
Jason almost expected anger to bubble up, he half thought he might have shoved the blonde on her ass but that rage he’d become so accustomed to wasn’t there. He actually thought this whole thing was hilarious. They thought he was that desperate, that he would make up a story so utterly stupid-
He almost started cackling at the idea. He would have laughed at it, had the revving of a motorcycle engine not interrupted him. Their mismatched group – consisting of Gregory, his flossy and a very unintimidating backup dancer – turned toward the noise in confusion. Even Jason was startled by the bike, which stopped just in front of them.
The rider kicked the stand down, threw their leg over the bike and approached them. Pulling off the black helmet and shaking out H/C hair the rider finally paused in front of the group, raising an eyebrow. Y/N smiled in greeting at Jason, who could only stare dumbly up at her.
“Sup J.T?” Her eyes crinkled mischievously, “Bruce sent me to get you, we need a hand a Wayne Enterprises.”
“Uh-huh yeah,” He took her hand, heaving himself from the floor. “What do you guys need me for?”
“I need someone to go over the specs for the new building in Star City and Bruce needs help planning the next Charity Gala. I’m not interrupting anything am I?”
Y/N’s eyes strayed to Gregory and his entourage before she mouthed a word to Jason. It took the boy wonder a moment to understand her, his lip-reading skills were still a little rusty, not that he’d ever admit it. But after a moment he understood; three.  She wanted him to follow her third condition, play along.
“Nah we were just having a lovely chat,” Jason said dismissively, a smirk working its way to his lips. “Nobody told me about the Gala. Don’t suppose you need a date to it?”
“You wish Jay,” Y/N made a good show of giving him a teasing smile. Then she shoved her helmet back on and handed Jason the second one from her bike.
“W-wait!” Gregory stumbled forward, “You’re Y/N Wayne as in the Lost Daughter of Gotham – What are you doing with someone like him?”
“You mean Jason?” She hopped onto her bike, letting Jason circle his arms around her waist. “He’s the one who brought me back. It’s a pity really, I finally made it away from Gotham, but you know, I grew up in these streets. I guess you can take the girl out of Gotham, but you can’t take Gotham out of the girl.”
***
“How did you know?” Jason finally asked when they stopped at some unnamed park. It was nice, empty and by no means lively, but it wasn’t yet destroyed by the cities night time visitors. Y/N raised an eyebrow in question, though her focus never left the ice cream she’d bought from the car down the street – both were sure it was an undercover GCPD truck but neither commented. “You showed up out of the blue – you said some things like... like you knew. How did you know those things?”
“You’re an ass and all but you’ve got guts. I admire that,” Y/N gave him a playful smile, “But you lack something that can’t be taught.”
Intrigue colored the boy’s face as he sat forward to better look at her. But in a very Wayne like fashion, Y/N only went back to her ice cream. For a moment he simply waited for her to tell him, but evidently leaving Jason to find the answer to his own question was much more entertaining.
“You didn’t,” He suddenly shouted, scrambling for his bag.
“What you lack is attention to detail,” She gave him a smug look, “A vigilante should be able to sniff a tracking device from a mile away. It was all too easy to slip the bug into your bag this morning.”
He groaned lowly, shoving his bag down as he held up the small device, “You were messing with me, is there even really a gala?”
“Oh, there’s a gala, you aren’t getting out of it that easy. But do you think Bruce would ask for your help on it?”
“Who else would he ask?” He snarked.
Y/N fell silent all at once. It startled Jason quite thoroughly – he’d been expecting some quick-witted rebuttal. He eyed the Wayne heiress carefully, wondering if he’d said something wrong. She wouldn’t outright attack him, would she? Jason wouldn’t rule the possibility out, but it was unlikely.
“Sorry,” She chuckled lightly – though her mind still seemed a million miles away, “You just reminded me of someone.”
“Who?”
“Someone gone,” Y/N shook her head, “It doesn’t matter.”
Perhaps Jason was having a stroke, but she seemed almost tender. In an attempt to stop her from falling back into their routine he said, “Tell me.”
She took a long breath. And told him.

Tim Drake for headcannons
BLESS YOU. I love him and will talk about my boy always. As with Damian, the hardest thing will be teasing out headcanons that I don’t already have plans to write fics around!
Headcanon A:  realistic
Tim has a tumultuous relationship with noise. Like Bruce’s relationship with Talia, there is only love or hate with no in-between. His house growing up (not his home, never his home) was always so quiet. If his parents were around, they were sleeping. If they were awake, they were sequestered in separate parts of the house, not talking to him or each other. His house was entombed with silence.
When they were home, he let it lie. He had learned long ago that it wasn’t worth the trouble to get their attention. Best to stay quiet and out of the way. When the silence grew too stifling, he would place headphones over his ears and blast music.
When they were gone, he filled the house with noise—the chatter of the television, the bass-thumping roar of the stereo, the whirr of the mixer and the blender, the sound of his own voice, talking aloud to no one but his own thoughts. He would wrap the cacophony around him like a thick woolen blanket, shielding him from the echoing chill of the empty house.
But that was noise he could control. Accustomed to silence and solitude as he was, Tim has a difficult time dealing with the chaos of the Manor. When it was just he and Bruce and Alfred, it wasn’t too bad. In fact, in those days of brooding, broken Bruce, the heavy silence in the Manor was too familiar for comfort. But now with the Manor full of people, both residents and frequent visitors, Tim can find himself battling for balance.
He needs the silence to think, to breathe. On a normal day, the noise is bearable, only just. But there are days when Tim is tired. Stressed. Underfed. Weighted by expectations and responsibilities. And he can’t handle it. Many times, he snaps something sarcastic or frustrated and disappears. No one is particularly concerned. It’s just Tim, perpetually running-on-fumes Tim. He’s fine. But it’s also not uncommon, if one should bother to look, to find Tim squirreled away in one of the dark corners of the Manor, hidden behind layers of doors, or crouching down in the Cave, as far away from the others as he can get.
Once, Bruce found Tim huddled in the shoe alcove of a guest room, a nook inside the closet, inside the bath, inside the bedroom—shielded by door after door after door after door and at the end of a long, seldom used hall. Tim had his eyes closed, his breathing heavy. Bruce didn’t ask. Instead, he sat next to his son in the silence and waited.
The next day, a pair of industrial noise-cancelling headphones appeared on Tim’s bed, along with a note scribbled in a distinctive, hurried scrawl. Go when you need to. Come back when you can. You were missed.
Headcanon B: while it may not be realistic it is hilarious
Not hilarious, per se, but lighthearted.
Tim paints his nails. Honestly, Stephanie started it. They were slumming around the Manor one night, complaining about school and life and Bruce, and she finished her own nails and started painting his. Tim had officially been awake for far too long and didn’t even notice, not until he finally got some sleep and woke up to find his nails painted a charming pale lavender.
He kept it up, because he liked the aesthetic, because he liked keeping his hands busy, because he liked being purposely different from the others, rather than different in all the ways he couldn’t control and couldn’t change.
He’s not particularly good at it, even with lots of practice. He still makes a mess and floods his cuticles and touches the polish too early when it’s almost dry but still smudgeable. But he likes it. And he blushes only a little when Cass—and sometimes Dick and, once, Jason—asks him to do theirs.
Headcanon C: heart-crushing and awful, but fun to inflict on friends
The first time Dick saw Tim cry was Tim’s first birthday after becoming Robin. Tim had been sporting the domino for a few months now and doing a bang-up job, Dick had to admit. They were still more tentative acquaintances than friends, what with Dick living in Bludhaven and Tim’s natural shyness, but Dick was determined to form a bond. He appreciated what Tim meant to Bruce, the role he was playing in both their lives, and he understood what a special kid Tim was. More importantly, Dick was determined not to make the same mistakes he had with Jason.
It had taken surprisingly little arm-twisting to get Bruce to agree to a tiny party for Tim’s birthday. Maybe it helped that the crowd truly is tiny—just Bruce, Dick, Alfred, Babs, and Tim’s friend Stephanie. Maybe it helped that Bruce was also thinking of past mistakes. Making it a surprise party had also been Dick’s idea. Who didn’t love a surprise party? They didn’t even need to invite Tim over. He always came by after school to run through case files with Bruce. They could just wait in the dining room and surprise him when he walked in. (Well, Dick, Alfred, Babs, and Steph could. Bruce could look on impassively.)
It might have been okay if Alfred hadn’t been doing some deep-cleaning in the parlor that day. Or maybe not. Maybe Tim would have always jumped to the wrong conclusions. Maybe the eerie silence in the Manor would have been enough, but the dust covers over the furniture, the pulled drapes, and the silver boxed for cleaning certainly hadn’t helped.
Tim called Bruce’s name as he walked through the Manor, his voice becoming more uncertain with each step. When he walked into the dining room and they shouted “Surprise!”, Dick had expected a jump, maybe a little scream, maybe some embarrassed laughter. He hadn’t expected Tim to burst into tears. Hadn’t expected the tears to continue, for Tim to sob so hard that he bent over, then knelt with one hand braced on the floor, the back of his other hand pressed to his mouth as he desperately tried to stop.
Alfred had taken firm control, ushering Dick, Babs, and Steph out the far end of the dining room as Bruce hurried to the boy. As the doors swung shut, Dick had caught the gasping, hiccuping explanation.
“I thought you’d left. I thought you’d left me.”
Headcanon D: unrealistic, but I will disregard canon about it because I reject canon reality and substitute my own.
Tim didn’t know Bruce was alive. He didn’t have a feeling. He didn’t have a clue. He just couldn’t face the idea of losing the one person who meant more to him than anyone else. Even before Bruce was Bruce, he was Batman. He was consistency. He was safety. Tim couldn’t face a world without that. So he kept pushing until reality bent to his will. Bruce Wayne, alive, pulled back by Tim.
(Tim so rarely sets his mind on things, rather than bending to the weight of what is and must be. Given the power of his results, that’s probably for the best.)
Drop me an ask with a character name and an indication that it’s for the headcanon meme, and I’ll give you four headcanons following the above four prompts! Yes, you can give me a character I’ve already done if you want more about that person.
And you can follow all my answers at the tag “headcanon time”.

“Hilarious,” said Dick, as soon as he saw the blood. He jumped from the guardrail down onto Jason’s balcony— one of Jason’s balconies, anyway, one safe house among the many that Dick knew about. Jason never stayed in one place for long.
That was supposed to make it hard for people to find him: enemies, informants, the CIA, and obviously his family. Jason had told Dick that last part directly, an excessive amount of times. He did not want them visiting.
Dick didn’t really care. If he wanted to wish his brother a happy birthday in person, he was going to do it, no matter what Jason thought about that. Dick had told his as much that morning, by text. “Happy birthday. I’ll drop by tonight.”
“Cool!” Jason responded. “Anybody know a good country I can disappear in after I fake my death to avoid that? Now taking suggestions.”
Apparently, he had followed through. Dick scuffed a boot through the nearest “blood” spatter in a ring that would have been alarmingly large in a real crime scene. It smeared easily across the concrete; Jason must be close, then. Dick called his cell to see if it would ring on the rooftops behind him, but it went straight to voicemail instead.
“Hilarious,” Dick repeated. “Real mature.” He pulled open Jason’s windowsill and climbed inside, trying not to feel offended by the effort behind the practical joke— We get it. You don’t want to see me.
Honestly, didn’t it cross Jason’s mind that faking his own death, even as a joke, even with advance warning, was in poor taste? Dick had lived through Jason’s real death before. He didn’t love being reminded of that experience.
Of course, it was always possible that Jason had considered that, and then decided it was funny. Jason was like that sometimes.
Well, all the time.
The blood trail continued on the carpet inside, from the windowsill to a sparsely furnished living room. Full credit to Jason— it did look very realistic. Without the text that morning, Dick would have been fooled completely. Even now, he almost bought it. He flicked on a light switch as he passed by the panel. Maybe he could find out where Jason had gone and meet him there. That was probably what Jason expected.
“Dick?” asked a voice from across the room (Jason’s voice, that was definitely Jason). A red-stained hand extended over the back of the worn-down couch in front of him, weakly waving him forward. “Little help?”
At about that point, it occurred to Dick that Jason might not be playing a practical joke. He hurried to the other side of the couch and found Jason slumped on top of it, hand pressed into his side, bleeding heavily into cushions that probably hadn’t been red when he lay down. For a half-second, they stared at each other, frozen.
Dick yanked his phone out of his pocket, dialed the eight digit code that would send an emergency signal to the cave, then dropped it into the carpet while he knelt at Jason’s side.
“What did you do?”
“What did I do?” Jason repeated incredulously. “I got shot, asshole. Didn’t the blood tip you off?”
“I thought is was a joke.”
“This is funny?”
“Well, no, but neither are you.” Dick pulled Jason’s hand away from his side. “Let me see.”
Jason slapped his hand back into place. “I’m hilarious.”
“You’re bleeding out. Where’s your first aid kit?”
“Bedroom. File cabinet. Third drawer.”
Dick ran to get it, found a pressure bandage, and ripped it out of the plastic packaging. “Do you have backup coming?”
“No.”
“You could have called.”
“Phone broke,” said Jason, handing it over. The screen had shattered into a few jagged remains of glass over black space. “No comms.”
“So what, you lay down to die?”
“You said you were coming. I just… waited.” Jason grabbed the back of the couch for support and pulled himself off the cushions so Dick could wrap the bandage underneath him. He didn’t say anything else, but he didn’t really have to. Dick knew what he must have been thinking while he was alone, hoping Dick showed up in time.
Jason actively pushed his family away. He told them not to visit, that he didn’t want to see them, that he wanted to be left alone. What if all of that finally paid off? What if Dick never came?
No matter what he pretended, Jason was relieved to see him. For once, he was genuinely glad that Dick was there.
“Well. Here now.” Dick pulled the bandage as tight as he could and tied it off.
“You know what?” Jason muttered. “I changed my mind. Just let me die.”
“Can’t come to your birthday party if you’re dead.”
“Exactly.”
“What if I told you that Damian baked you a cake?”
Jason looked almost touched. “He did?”
“No, he wrote you this and told me to get out of his room.” Dick pulled a crumpled post-it note out of his pocket and passed it to Jason.
“Suggestion: Cuba,” Jason read. “Yeah, that tracks.”
Dick’s phone lit up from the floor, beeping insistently. Bruce dropped through the open window twenty seconds later.
“Jason,” Dick told him. “He’s over here.”
“Let me die,” Jason repeated. “Right now, at this moment. Please?”
“Oh shut up.”
Dick took one of Jason’s shoulders while Bruce took the other; between them, they hauled him down a flight of stairs to the batmobile, while Jason swore loudly in pain. He collapsed into the backseat and closed his eyes.
“I’ll meet you at home,” Dick told Bruce.
Jason’s eyes snapped open. “What?”
“Happy birthday.” Dick slammed the door shut, and the batmobile raced away at top speed with Bruce and Jason inside.
Bruce had also shown up, after all. He and Jason should talk about that, Dick figured, while they were alone in the car. At the very least, Jason would have to think about it.
Dick pulled out a grappling line and swung towards the cave on his own. If he hurried, he could make it home right after they did.
Anonymous said: For the prompts, it's Jason's birthday, someone (Dick?) remembered but when they get to his safehouse, he's laying on the couch bleeding.

Alright here it is. I saw Batman and Harley Quinn. I’m going to post spoiler-free notes above the cut and spoiler-full notes under the cut.
First of all I want to say that I actually loved it. Like a lot. Like a lot a lot. It’s pretty close to the BTAS Harley we all know and love. Now, this does not mean it’s without it’s faults. But honestly? It is not as bad as everyone thought it was going to be. Maybe I only feel this way because I went into it with such low expectations, but whatever it is, it is honestly not that bad. Yes, Harley is sexualized a bit. There are a few gratuitous panty shots. But all of the gross stuff is in the first 15-20 minutes of the movie and does not make another appearance. This is all I can really tell you without spoilers. All and all, a good Harley movie in my opinion and worth seeing for Harley fans.
In summary, gross for like 20 minutes and then actually a really good movie.
THOUGHTS CONTAINING SPOILERS STARTING HERE
I know what you want to know right off the bat (Bat. Hehe get it?) Yes, Harley and Nightwing have sex. It’s very uncomfortable but it’s over very quickly and is not brought up again, much like the panty and ass shots. It is not a major plot point, nothing ever comes of it, which makes it very stupid, in my opinion. It’s exactly like the weird out of nowhere Bruce/Barbara sex scene in The Killing Joke. They threw it in for no reason other than giving Harley someone to fuck. It starts off a little predatory, but both parties seem to enjoy it and consent so I wouldn’t call it non-consensual like the sneak peaks led people to believe. This is the worst part of the movie, but like I said, all the gross shit is in the first 20 minutes rather than sprinkled in, making it very watchable after that.
There are many many hilarious one liners from Harley. I was actually laughing throughout the whole thing. They paint Harley as incredibly caring, without watering her down. She’s “reformed” in this movie, but they still make her exactly as you’d think reformed Harley would act. She’s very neutral. She’s wacky just as BTAS Harley was, but a little more realistic and grown up. You can tell THIS is what Bruce Timm wanted an adult BTAS to be. It’s risque at points but (other than the first 20 minutes) never tries to shock you with adult humor. It’s actually funny, not just a bunch of sex and swears to make it seem grown up. I think it actually succeeds as adult humor by using actual jokes.
Now what about Harley and Ivy? Harley is working with Batman and Nightwing to stop Ivy and Jason Woodrue from literally killing off the whole planet. So I’m thinking, “Oh no. Another plot that pits Harley and Ivy against each other.” But Harley is VERY adamant that she does not want Ivy hurt, and before they try anything, she wants to try to simply talk her out of it. And this actually ends up being the solution! There is no punchline like “Haha Harley’s so stupid, reason never works, lets kick Ivy’s ass.” In the end, Harley ends up appealing to Ivy’s emotions and it works. No, there is no overt Harley/Ivy action. Not even jokes about how they bang each other. Which honestly? I’m okay with. I either want nice, actual hivy, or nothing. Not jokes like “lol we have hot lesbian sex”. So I’m okay with not even a reference to it, as long as they didn’t turn it into a punchline. Harley and Ivy embrace at the end and make up, and it’s actually very sweet.
There is absolutely no Joker. Other than mentioning him once in passing,(negatively, I might add), Harley is not influenced by Joker whatsoever. He is not a factor in this movie at all. End of story. I’m serious, she mentions him once, calling him an “asshat”, and he’s never brought up again. I think the writers are very talented for not using Joker whatsoever in a story primarily about Harley. They could have been lazy and used him as a crutch, but they didn’t. They wrote Harley on her own, as her own person. And I think that’s highly commendable.
The ending is actually quite lighthearted and sudden, much like a true BTAS episode. It literally goes from nail-biting high stakes to Harley being like “....Y’all why don’t we just light him on fire he’s a plant.” And they do. And that’s it! I know some people will find this anti-climactic but I kinda think that was the point. BTAS episodes always kinda made you go “Haha oh well” at the end, and so does this movie.
The movie brings up an incredibly realistic point. Nightwing admonishes Harley, now reformed, for being just a waitress when she has a psychiatric background. Harley gets out a stack of rejection letters from hospitals and angrily tells him that no one in their right mind would hire an ex-supervillain, especially one who ran off with a patient, as a psychiatric doctor. The movie really maintains it’s realism in that it doesn’t simply give Harley the perfect happy ending where she’s a real doctor again. In the end, she gets her own T.V show where she seemingly acts as a psuedo-therapist, before making her clients run through an “American Ninja” type obstacle course in order to win a year of free therapy from an actual licensed therapist. It’s funny, it’s realistic, and it’s just oh so Harley.
The movie doesn’t dumb her down. It also doesn’t smarten her up and dull her by pushing the fact that she is indeed smart. It just, shows her as she is. It shows rather than tell. We see her doing a crossword. We also see her be a little clumsy and ditsy. She’s not written as a trope, she’s written like an honest to God person.
Maybe I’m just starved of good Harley rep but, overall, I think this movie was extremely in character, and one of the best representations we’ve had of Harley in a long long time.

do you have any good fic recs?
On Fanfiction.net
My personal favorite author is paganpunk2. They write the most adorable batfam (though mostly Bruce and younger Dick). I would start with Firework which is a retelling of Dick’s first year at Wayne Manor and the rest are listed on her blog.
Where’s Robin and Without Me (one story told from two different perspectives, would start with WM) is also super cute. It’s by Glimare who also has written a ton of excellent one-shots. Robin is sent to an AU where there never were sidekicks. Also Hostages, Hero’s Debt and Necessary Lies are very enjoyable. Daddy, not Bats is interesting. It’s if Bruce adopted all his kids when they were younger and, to care for them, gave up being Batman.
Roots is the start of a series by TV Maniac 2. It’s how YJ Robin ended up with Batman. Yes, this story is 1st person from Dick’s POV but just stick with it, it’s worth it.  First story in a while I stayed up late into the night to finish. Subsequent stories in the series are Hooked, Identity, Fragility and Loyalty is still ongoing.
Father by Lawless67 is really great showing each time the kids call Bruce dad for the first time
Also No Good Deed and Charades by Black Friar are particularly heart-wrenching. In NGD, Dick is taken from Bruce due to abuse accusations and the other Dick is kidnapped (again), really good dad bruce
Linchpin by Tiger Lily Roar is honestly amazing and read it and it’s short sequel Family Matters- A linchpin interlude. Like wow. I can’t even describe (Buried by her is also another intense Dick kidnapped story)
Pressing Matters, (More) Pressing matters by Sly are really cute just adopted Dick stories with a loving daddybats. I also like (Un)fortunate Son where Dick takes Dami and runs to safety before BI #8 instead of letting Bruce hand over Damian to Talia (sadly it’s unlikely to be finished)
WorldsGreatestDefective (Totally read I’ll Follow You Anywhere, The More Things Change and Dodge of my fav FF interpretation of tiny Jason)
Young Justice: Darkness Falls and Young Justice: Titans by Angelus-v1 is SUPER good. It’s a proposed season 3 and 4 of YJ and it’s very detailed plots involving so much from actual comics plus adding it’s own little fun things in. YJ:T is just finishing up and damn is it great.
Trepidation and Worth by sidekick heroisms are both very short, nice stories
FinalArc writes some really good interesting batfam with a really realistic, complex Bruce who tries and fails, a lot. Totally read Instinct, Citation, Bumper Stickers, Paved with Good Intentions, It’s the Thought That Counts is really super cute
How We Fall by Skylark Evanson is a LONG story of Robin coping if Bruce died sometime during YJ.
Officer Calling 1080 by A Tragic Galaxy is very fun where Robin gets pulled over for speeding by a naïve cop, Bruce is very protective.
Weezila does great stuff with Brothers, Show-off, Twenty Bucks, Flying Lessons also Three Little Birds is a great AU
midnightluck  is the master of simply spoken but impactful one-shots. A Good Plan, A halo for your finger, Cause Walking Gets too Boring, dare not meet in dreams, just like bad wallpaper, The Circus Crime Protection Squad
aradian nights The Bond of Street Urchins, Where are all the goddamn knives, Fall and Fail, Stages of Deterioration is particularly devastating in which YJ-verse the Bats find Jason after he crawled out his grave and him trying to reintegrate into the family.
On AO3
- ANYTHING BY HEARTSLOGOS. I swear to Ford her stuff is just the absolute best and I’ve read everything so many times. SO mANy. Her Tim… is my Tim. favs: Clockwork, Executive Assistant to the Batman (READ THIS AU! HILARIOUS AND TOUCHING), Nanny, Awful Child, Drabble, Drabble, Things Left Unsaid, Think of the Cold, Our Silences are so Weighted, Quartet, Shutterbug and like… everything she has ever written, ever
- Really been enjoying Fracture by wintersnight which updated the other day I was soooo excited! (tw for light Jaydick and implied Jaydicktim) for Tim leaving and reintegrating into the Batfam post RR. Also in the Distractions collection she has a sad racture AU “No Home for Dead Birds” which is terrible in the best way.
- Bird by Bird, [Incident, Coincidence, Pattern], Five Times Jason Todd Saved His Brothers, and One Time They Saved Him by laceymcbain
- Slipcast by wisia is sad Tim :( and Class Differences for timkon
- Classics: One and Two by Protagonistically (The_Protagonist) is very good early Tim and Dick bonding and awkward Bruce trying to understand
- Support Systems, Make Believe Everything’s Alright, To be a Good Child, A Reason to Celebrate by keeptogethernow does very very good stuff
- Heart, Humble by Betty is GREAT Tim/Jack Drake bonding, it humanizes Jack Drake and makes me like him a bit more
- Life Lessons by Fire Dancer is watching child Tim develop his skillz
- Forgotten by Souliebird is bb Tim at Wayne Manor
- Try to Talk by drakesounds is Tim leaning on Bart and Kon for help
- Of Milkshakes and Marathons, Weighing Ones Worth by Rascal Joy (Dark Quill) for depressed Tim and Jay/Dami being good brothers (tw for suicide attempt in the second)
- Replace the Need with Love by Aviatricks (Also for Timkon, The Mystery of the Superboy Shirts which !!! was a birthday present from me and I remember this and I cry because I LOVE this story)
- For Timkon which is mostly focused on the realtionship not the smut- Trade in these wings for some wheels and your heartbeat in a thousand miles and Ink for Youself by victoria_p (musefool), Matters of the Heart and Reveries by DM (dragonmist30), TK! by Loud Lucy, Through Another Lens by animegoil (tw for slight unintended abuse that’s immeaditely shut down) and Gonna be a better one (A thousand miles to your door) by Traincat.

would love to see your headcanons for duke? also i think your option d hc for jason was equally suited for option c because ouch that hit me hard that it won't ever work in canon
Yep! And god yeah, it hurts me too
Duke
A) What I think realistically
Duke writes and performs slam poetry. He competes in slams in Gotham, and Jason will sometimes tag along to watch. Duke has won a handful of slams, and is really proud of it. Bruce will also sometimes watch Duke’s slams, but he has to do it in disguise so he doesn’t cause a disruption
B) What I think is hilarious
Duke tends to get away with pranks by virtue of being assumed to be the innocent one. He and Cass will team up to prank the rest of the batfamily. Babs sends them videos of the reaction if they aren’t there to see it
C) What is soul-crushing and awful but fun to inflict on friends
Duke never lets Bruce adopt him. He lives with him as a foster son until he’s 18, and they all consider him as much a part of the family as the rest of his siblings. But he can’t let Bruce adopt him because it would feel too much like giving up on his parents
D) Would never work with canon, but canon is shit so I believe it anyway
So it’s not that I don’t think this would work in canon, I just doubt they’re ever gonna actually show us it. But anyway, Duke and Damian are really close. They bond over being the youngest, and will often spend time just chilling in the same space while Duke writes and Damian draws. They talk sometimes, but mostly they just quietly share their time. Alfred the cat and Titus also really like Duke
