OHHHHHHHHH MY GOD ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'LL NEVER BE THE SAME AFTER THIS!!!!!! THIS ENDING?? THIS WHOLE EVERYTHING!!!!! WHERE DO I EVEN START I'M SO STUNNED!!!! WHAT!!!!!
"The end of time" was the most incredible ending I could have asked for!!! We finished watching it all at 3am last night and we spent all of today yelling about it, I can't believe just how good this was!!! I'm so glad we've never watched this show before while this was airing so that we get to watch it all fresh for the first time because we are having the time of our lives now
It was completely devastating and so so inspiring, just exactly how I was hoping for it to be, I already want to rewatch S1 to S4 all over again 😭 the sheer comfort I get from the character of the doctor is insane, I've never rooted for a character so hard and wholeheartedly in my life, he really is the most wonderful being in the universe I'm in tears I'm Wilfred rn what the fuck man I'll never recover from this!!! I feel like a ten year old kid with a new superhero GOD IT WAS ALL SO GOOD I CAN'T ARTICULATE I'd yell about each scene but I'm aware that pretty much everyone has watched this ages ago so you know and I still wouldn't want to spoil anyone that hasn't just in case because going into this unspoiled and knowing nothing about it has been the most satisfying experience ever and I hope more people get to have it too!!! please if you haven't watched this before go do that!! and if you have and it's been a while do it again!!! the acting?? INSANE!! the writing!! incredible!! I have only good things to say!!! I only wish we had 1000 more seasons with RTD and David Tennant I really love this man, I'm so sad to see him go!!! and so happy to get him back for the 60 special!!
When we got to the last episodes of season 4 I was expecting pain and instead I got an unexpected fix-it device that was rather strange but cute so I was somewhat relieved and confused, then the holidays specials were pretty standard and lighthearted AND THEN THE WATERS OF MARS? INSANE EPISODE, I loved it so much, that whole part at the end FANTASTIC they went there and I LOVE them for it!! another favourite episode for sure, and THEN THE END OF TIME?? by this point Nicolas and I were twisted into a single pretzel on the couch bracing ourselves, it went from extremely intense to SO FUNNY to heartbreaking and just...amazing!!! AAAAAA anyway!! I had to get all that out of my system, now onwards to S5!!! I'm curious to meet Matt Smith's doctor 😊

p.s. i'd loveee to write this for Eren too but maybe another time hehe
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Keep your eyes and ears alert for her." Levi's voice echoed in Armin's head.
"Mikasa and I will be responsible for slaying Marley's Guardian. The rest of you stay far away from her. I don't need anyone dying on me tonight."
As much as everyone was bitter to admit it, you were the strongest enemy on the other side of the sea.
In the Scouts you were referred to as Marley's Guardian; known to be the soldier that protected them from taking a finishing blow during the Battle of Shiganshina.
Now the invasion of Liberio was at hand.
You were perched on the rooftops, alert and ready for battle when a bolt of lightning descended from the sky and struck the center stage where Willy Tybur was currently giving his impassioned speech.
You watched as his blood was squeezed out of him by Eren Jaeger. The roar didn't send chills down your spine, nor did its appearance frighten you. For you there was nothing to fear, except...
"Your mission is to keep Levi away from Zeke." your captain had instructed beforehand. "Avoid confrontation with two Ackermans."
Armin sat in a vacated apartment, watching out the window as you leaped from rooftop to rooftop and became smoothly airborne in the night sky.
Mikasa and Levi swarmed you, their hearts panging as loudly as yours.
Although you were Armin's enemy, he looked at you with amazement and awe in his big eyes. He was taken by you.
"So that's her..." he thought, watching your battle intently.
You moved swiftly and calculatedly, like a cat.
Armin's eyes struggled to follow you, they were darting around the night sky. Sometimes he lost you, and only found you again when he saw a flicker of ODM gear.
"Blood...?" he muttered under his breath when he saw you again.
You changed course desperately. It seemed like you were trying to escape the overwhelming fight.
You headed straight into the window of the vacated apartment building where Armin was hiding.
"Where is she going — !! "
He pulled out of sight just in time before you hurtled through the window with a violent smash.
The glass was pierced, shards flew everywhere. The sound of breakage and your body thudding on the wooden floor startled the atmosphere.
Armin flinched and reactively shielded himself with his arms as some glass shards struck his body. His cheek begun to bleed, a thin river of crimson ran down it.
He kept one shaky hand on his sword, ready to draw it. Knuckles white.
But his grip loosened when he saw you struggling to push yourself up with two hands.
It felt like a major moment when you and him looked at each other for the first time. For a second, Armin admired your beauty, albeit with a bit of bewilderment in his chest.
Your chest was violently heaving up and down. He could see you were pained by the impact of hurtling through a window, but injured by the fight with relentless Ackermans who now flew back hurriedly to Eren in the main battle.
You looked at him and he looked at you. Panting. Him less than you.
He lowered his gaze to your abdomen. "You're bleeding." he commented.
You didn't respond.
Armin cautiously approached where you limply laid.
"I just want to help you, I promise." the blond assured.
But as he approached you, you made a swipe at him and shuffled away like a cat. He very nearly got scratched.
"I'm not going to hurt you." he said earnestly.
His uniform was stained with blood, his blond hair bespattered with it too.
Armin drew closer. "You can trust me." he said.
He wondered why your eyes were still fearfully staring at him. Then he realized you were eyeing out his blades and gear.
"Will this help?" he dismantled his ODM gear and let it fall to the ground with a metallic thud. "I'm unarmed now."
The apprehensiveness in your face dulled out, but you still had a look of bewilderment as he came closer.
You felt puzzled.
He was a soldier, an enemy; a threat. So why did he show tenderness and humanity to you?
Slowly – for what felt like an infinity of a time – you let him draw closer to you.
He was cautious. Curious. Confused.
Cautious that you might try with your last bit of strength to kill him, but curious about if you would let your enemy treat your wounds. And confused, because he had no idea why he was betraying Levi's order's to stay away from Marley's Guardian.
"It's alright." he said comfortingly.
You remained still, your piercing eyes calculating his movements as he took off his military rucksack to retrieve medical supplies. It made him nervous to be your object of focus, even if you didn't seem hostile anymore.
When he showed gentleness in how he wrapped the bandages around you, you felt... well, you felt something, but you couldn't quite understand what it was or what it meant.
"Your name... what is it?" you asked him. You felt you just had to know his name, at the very least.
He looked up at you, his breath hitching. "Ah – ah, Armin." he said.
"Oh. The God of Destruction?" you remarked.
Armin felt awkward and awful. "I am the Colossal, yes." he admitted almost guiltily.
"That's very strange. You're the God of Destruction, but you're helping me. Why?" you asked blankly.
You seemed doll-like to him, he was absolutely intrigued.
"I... I don't know. I couldn't just leave you here to bleed out."
"But that's what you're supposed to do."
"I know, but I couldn't." he said, temporarily biting an end of the bandage.
Your blood got all over his hands and uniform but he didn't care.
"I don't understand." you furrowed your brows and began to tear up. It was all so confusing that it made you want to cry for some reason.
"Why are you treating me kindly?" you choked.
Armin forced himself to focus on wrapping your bandages or else he would have cried, too.
He breathed heavily as he listened to the battle outside continue.
"Why!"
He didn't answer you.
When he finished tending to your wounds and was sure that you could make it on your own, he disappeared after giving you a long, blue-eyed stare.

Okay so I'm in that phase where you finish Hannibal and all you wanna do is REWATCH it immediately but you're scared of going through the emotional turmoil again so soon. You need to heal first.
So you just start watching all the Mads and Hugh stuff you could find (from movies to interviews) and all of it leaves you with a greater LONGING for Hannibal than before. The more I watch their individual stuff ,the more I fall in love with them AND THE MORE I WANT A S4 TO HAPPEN. The void in my heart can only be filled by Hannibal, Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy. I'm so doomed.

Flight of Icarus Spoilers and Opinions - Hellcheer Version
Just my thoughts on the Hellcheer crumbs in the book. I wanted to write it short and just for myself, but it became longer so I thought I'll share it with people who might be interested.
I haven't rewatched S4 and I haven't processed Eddie's characterisation as intense as fanfic writers so maybe I can be wrong here and there, but this is just my opinion. This is not too organised, sorry, I'm sleepy lol
I think the fact that Eddie thought Chrissy was just another conformity-loving cheerleader girl fits his character. Eddie has formed his prejudice to jocks rock-solid since forever here, thus skipping her existence until then.
Chrissy may have been pressured to behave as the perfect cheerleader too so far, but the sweet Chrissy can't just stay quiet when the jocks harass Gareth. Chrissy is different, thus Eddie notices her again.
I love it when Eddie says "straight teeth". Maybe I overanalyse it, but that just symbolises that Eddie is far too stuck up in his prejudiced thinking. Because Chrissy - by coincidence because I'm sure the production casted Grace without taking account of her appearance - doesn't have what society called "perfect teeth". I don't know if the writer wrote that deliberately, but I think that's interesting? Just symbolises even further that Chrissy is actually not the cliche cheerleader girl he thought of.
I don't think of this book as absolute canon, but based on this, my headcanon is Eddie notices Chrissy more and more from then on (or after the book time (I haven't finished the book lol)) and as a result, he respects cheerleaders and has a soft spot for them, which is why he was kind to the cheerleaders in the cafeteria scene.
About him not remembering her until then, as much as I love the "Eddie has a crush on Chrissy since middle school" fanon, I think it's understandable that he didn't clock her or remember her until then. He got a life after middle school, I guess. But since in the show, Eddie called the talent show "hangout", the writer should have shown that thought process in the book. Or like emphasising more that this is a significant moment for him. But maybe I'm just asking for too much lol Hellcheer is canon but not "canon" anyway.
I like that the writer emphasises subtly Jason's...craziness, to foreshadow his character and what he is capable of doing.
As I have said before, I like the talent show background story. Lots of Hellcheer writers have written a similar version of their own, so it's very familiar. It also foreshadows Chrissy's struggles with her parents (as the writer should, what a missed opportunity if not). I can't make up my mind yet about Chrissy's "hungry jealousy" at Eddie's dad being late though.
We don't know much about Chrissy's dad. I love her fanon dad's characterisation fans based on the vision, but this makes me wonder if there's so much more about her dad. But I think fanon is not that far off, seeing the "blank-faced" Philip Cunningham at her daughter being lectured by the abusive Laura ("grabbing her shoulder and yanking her to the door" wtf??????? Chrissy Protection Squad, go go go!!!)
The fact that middle school Eddie immediately says sorry to Chrissy pointing at her mum tells me that he realises Chrissy's struggles intuitively. I love that Chrissy immediately opens up to Eddie with that "me too" and "like a secret she never told anyone". Just like 20-year-old Eddie sees through her and 18-year-old Chrissy opens up to him at the picnic table.
Well, I love Steve Harrington and his cameo. I like that it is implied that Jason is kinda scared of him lol
I'm overanalysing again but I love that Jason immediately pulls Chrissy away the moment she starts to defend Eddie. Just shows that Jason is that asshole who wants Eddie to...hm, get executed(? lol) no matter what, just like how he is in S4. But maybe it's more likely so that Chrissy won't tell the truth, hah.

somebody who’s more up to date on what’s stated to be retconned or whatever help me out, because i’ve been rewatching phineas and ferb (again) and just finished rewatching the finale (last day of summer) and it got me thinking about all the timeline implications and what’ll happen in the next two seasons. because i’ve also seen all of milo murphy’s law and this is breaking my brain
i much would PREFER if the pnf finale stayed canon because i really love it (destroying a time loop for the end of a formulaic sitcom also including a lot of status quo changes is pretty genius) and also i hate what mml does to doofenshmirtz’s story for a lot of reasons
but it kind of donned on me once doof vowed not to be evil in last day of summer how much this confuses everything. like milo murphy’s law happened after the phineas and ferb summer (right?) and he was still evil then until the season one finale. not mention doof mentions he invented a time machine to put in the bathroom in the finale, which messes up the whole him not knowing how to invent time travel yet thing in milo murphy’s law
i also get confused about how candace against the universe fits into the timeline, because that came out way after the finale, and then candace has the development about not wanting to bust her brothers anymore, i’m assuming that happens in the middle of that summer pnf takes place in since doof is still evil. but i guess i can kind of wrap my head around that being some alternate universe “what if” scenario deal, and it is a kickass movie (or maybe she just relapsed… which… fine)
i also couldnt see them changing the status quo so much in the next two seasons that candace isn’t compelled to bust her brothers plus doofenshmirtz not being evil, even though i’d hope they would
even then, if they did do that or went with the mml timeline, wouldn’t that be confusing for pnf exclusive watchers (who would probably be watching on disney+ like me when the new seasons drop and would have almost definitely seen the s4 finale) be confused on why everything doesn’t line up??? is the mml timeline non-existent now since it’s cancelled / a different show???? has this ever been addressed. i don’t know. somebody help me my autistic brain can’t stop game-theorying about this cartoon sitcom for babies.
i probably messed something up since there’s hundreds of episodes of this show but i trust myself to be somewhat accurate in my assessment as that guy who’s seen all of pnf 3 times and watches it everyday

S4 and Its Role Storytelling Wise: The GA’s (lack of) Understanding of The Show
[Warning: long post ahead]
So I stumbled across two videos on youtube about season 4 of Stranger Things, analyzing it from a storytelling standpoint. As one does, I watched them, because I was intrigued about what people thought outside our bubble or places like reddit and fb. And I wanna talk about it because it’s intriguing how the answers are right in front of us, but most people, even people with knowledge about storytelling and media analysis, don’t consider more possibilities, too blinded by heteronormativity and how we’re used to the same formulas, the way most stories unfold.
The first video, “Why Stranger Things 5 (Probably) Won’t be Good”, considers that the show is dragging on too long because all the characters have solved their conflicts and the entire main cast of characters are perfectly fine with each other, which means s5 won’t be a compelling story because you can’t separate the character development and inner conflicts from the plot. And I was genuinely surprised because this is the complete opposite of how most of us perceive s4.
If anything, I don’t like rewatching s4 for this reason, because everything feels too open, too unresolved, with some clues and some key reveals but no real answers.
Mike and El are far from okay, they ended up the season not talking to each other. Will lied to Mike about the painting. Nancy and Jonathan haven’t had a real conversation about their future and how they really feel about it. Dustin is grieving Eddie and Mike isn’t even aware of his death. Lucas and El are grieving Max but not giving up on her.
And the most important one that upset me to no end for a while after I finished s4, before I sit down and analysed it: the characters come together to try to save Max, and Mike and Will do the same for El, and then they reunite… But they don’t have any real moment that reminds us that they’re friends, or why they are. This is hard to do when there’s so much action going on, but there’s always time to show us where these characters stand with each other. And this hurts me to write, but they don’t feel like a group of friends anymore, haven’t, for a while, since s3 probably. And this is intentional because they purposefully show us the party drifting apart in the beginning of s4, as soon as the first episode.
The fact that they’re all back in Hawkins and working together again isn’t enough to show us that they’re back to being best friends. We need moments that show us why these characters are friends and stick together because they love and care for each other, choosing each other, not only because the circumstances force them back together.
And in that sense, s4 lays the foundation for it to be something touched upon next season, but these characters are far from completely fine with each other. It’s going to be good and rewarding to have them all reunited and working together again and rebuilding their friendship at the same time, but it has not happened yet.
To say there’s no more “personal drama” to add on is a complete misunderstanding of where our main characters stand. When I heard that I was just thinking, did we just forget Will lied to Mike about the painting and he was only able to say “I love you” when he was pushed by Will, and we got no explanation for his weird behavior?!
The second video (Stranger Things 5 is NOT the Redemption You Think It Is) analyses several aspects of the show and brings up very important points about what makes a story feel real and compelling. This is a very good video, however, I found myself disagreeing once more with most of it. I’ll divide it into sections so it’s more organized, and I’ll talk about their arguments and my counterarguments. Keep in mind this is how most people perceive the show, and this person in the video is someone who does have some sort of knowledge about storytelling.
*They see the Cali plot as useless.
It is a fact that Mike, Will and Jonathan have been sidelined this season. While I don’t like this or agree with the amount of screen time they were given this season compared to other characters, they are far from useless. A lot of people seem to think they didn’t know what to do with them, so they put Mike and Will together in a van with Jonathan in Argyle just for funsies, and gave Will a crush on Mike as a last-minute decision. They perceive Will’s plot as simply being the “sad gay best friend who is obviously getting rejected”.
Their reasoning is quite simple: They aren’t looking at the bigger picture, failing to consider how these characters all have a purpose and how the Duffers always say that each scene adds something to the story. Even seemingly insignificant moments have weight in the story and are used to help us understand the how and why’s, or as callbacks, parallels, or even to reveal future plot points.
So what IS the purpose of the Cali plot? First I’m going to say what is NOT their ONLY purpose: saving El.
Yeah, that’s what we see them doing the entire time, but it’s not like El had an issue getting out of there by herself. I’m sure she would’ve been fine, ultimately doing the same thing we see her do: find a way to try to save Max when she’s miles away from Hawkins.
So, if their purpose (storytelling-wise) is not to save El and help her get to Hawkins… What does the Cali plot add?
CHARACTER CONFLICT that is going to BE IMPORTANT LATER. It’s, again, part of the FOUNDATION for the climax. Even with their little screen time, the Cali plot is KEY for future events. It builds lies upon lies that ended up inadvertently killing Max.
Mike wasn’t being himself, incapable of having an honest, open conversation with El, not being able to tell her I love you. Mike’s inner conflict, his tumultuous relationship with El, isolation from his friends, and awkward behavior towards Will drove Will to lie to him, presenting his feelings as El’s. Will’s lie pushed Mike to rush a love confession in a life-or-death situation and instead of helping, it contributed to Max’s death and Vecna not being defeated.
It serves the purpose to show the audience:
The characters are lying. They’re not being honest with each other, and this has BIG consequences.
They’re acting that way for a reason, but we don’t know why yet. It’ll be important later.
Mike and El do not understand each other and don’t work as a couple.
It sets Mike and Will’s relationship apart from the rest. They’re not just our usual friendship story, because if they were, their conflict would’ve been solved when they made up in s3. But their story is not over. This is the writers telling the audience: look here, we’ve established this pair and dynamic, it’ll be important.
And the thing is, if Will was supposed to be your usual “gay best friend in love with the straight guy” story, why bother with the points we just went over? It was a choice to have Mike act that way, not being able to hug Will and tell El I love you, it was a choice to have Will lie about the painting making it impossible for the truth not to reveal itself eventually, it was a choice to establish them as a pair who has multiple hearts to hearts, and it was a choice to have El not speaking to Mike by the end of the season.
It was a choice to have THIS as the final shot of the season.
Tumblr media
*Mike’s Character
Next, let’s talk about Mike, one of the least liked characters by the general audience right now.
Tumblr media
To be honest, it’s easy to understand why, and even some of us were worried about how they’ve been handling his character. The GA perceives Mike as a supporting role, El’s incompetent boyfriend who went from this smart kid that acted as a leader, to an oblivious, mean character. He feels DUMB to the audience, because how could he not notice El acting weird and how upset Will was in the van scene? They think it’s a shame because he used to be a perceptive kid and now he apparently lost his perception.
But this isn’t true at all.
Even in s4, when Mike is not his best and focuses too hard in pretending to be someone he’s not… He has shown us
Again
Tumblr media
And again
Tumblr media
And again
Tumblr media
That he is still his smart, perceptive self. He just struggles when it comes to emotional awareness and communicating his feelings, which, you know what? it’s completely fair for a teen boy whose best friend went missing, discovered an alternative dimension, saw multiple people die, and… Do I have to keep going? And he still managed to figure out the number was inside the pen, that Nina was a computer, and had the idea to ask Suzie for help. But they don’t read him as a three dimensional character, which brings me to the next point.
*Mike being “The Heart” feels undeserved
Honestly, my first reaction right after finishing s4 was the same. I thought they had murdered his character, and how could someone who is a bad boyfriend, a bad friend, and mean be the heart of the group, the leader? (I’m so sorry, he’s my favorite character now and my resentment lasted like two days)
I get them. This is what happens when you don’t consider the bigger picture and the clues for the character arc they’re clearly setting up for him.
In the video, it is said that “S4 doesn’t do a good job of conveying his emotional growth”. This is true. That’s why the monologue doesn’t feel genuine, it’s unsatisfying and just overall weird. Not to mention the deathly (literally) consequences. But that’s the thing. S4 doesn’t try to make his love confession a sudden, magic solution for his individual issues and his relationship with El.
Tumblr media
Because it’s not a resolution. It’s not growth. There’s nothing in S4 that made him suddenly realize how much he loved El, nothing that inspired him to want to tell her those words. It’s the opposite: he has to be pushed by Will, who lied to him and put words and feelings in El’s mouth that weren’t hers. The grand love confession that saves the day was prompted by a lie.
So again, they DON’T try to fit into the “love confession saves the day” trope. They make a POINT of showing us the indirect consequences.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And while this season Mike was distant for both the audience and the characters (for a reason), we have to remember the role he has always played: he’s the friend that cares too much, who doesn’t give up on the people he loves, who is always there supporting and trying to protect others (mainly Will and El).
Tumblr media
And this season finally has him as the one receiving emotional support, it shows us someone else looking out for Mike the way he always does for other people. This was said by Finn Wolfhard himself! and the Duffers, I’m sure, I don’t remember where right now, but if someone knows, please link me:).
Besides, these are Will’s feelings. His words show us how beautiful and intense they are. It’s how he sees Mike, despite their fights and the tension that seems to follow them everywhere. And Will has a lot of reasons to feel that way: Mike has always been kind and a good friend to him, it’s only recently that the complexity of growing up and feelings shifting into something new changed their dynamic.
*”Max mourning Billy feels undeserved”
I’m gonna be honest, this is what annoyed me the most. It completely brushes over the real message and the source of a lot of Max’s trauma and the reason why she’s the one who got cursed: Max isn’t suddenly sad because she lost her step-brother who sacrificed himself to save them. She isn’t sad because the bad guy turned good in the end and died to redeem himself. She feels guilty because she wanted him to die, wanted him gone, and when it actually happened she feels like it was her fault. Billy didn’t redeem himself, one single good action resulting in his death doesn’t absolve him of all the bad. And Max knows this, that’s why she feels so guilty. It’s the mixed feelings of sadness, relief, and guilt.
The last thing the video touches upon that I’ll address brings me again to something I mentioned before:
*"Even in the same town, the characters feel a mile apart"
This is something I agree with. No counterargument here, because it’s true. What tends to be overlooked, however, it’s the fact that it’s intentional. The Duffers themselves have said that you’re supposed to feel like the characters lost, like it’s hopeless.
This is because Stranger Things as a whole is written using the Five Act Structure. You can read a post by @dinitride-art that explains this better here, but in summary, this is how stories are structured if you divide them in five acts:
Tumblr media
That’s why s4 feels the way it does. I love what it adds to the overall story that is unfolding, but I really don’t like it is as its own season. That’s because you’re meant to interpret the show as a whole, and yeah, last seasons tried to sort of give us a good and satisfying ending, but as we’re nearing the end of the show, s4 couldn’t do that.
It’s the second to last act, the moment we feel everything is lost and can’t be fixed. That’s why the characters even back together in Hawkins do not feel like a group of friends again (yet). That’s why the truth about the painting hasn’t come out. That’s why El and Mike aren’t talking. That’s why Mike and Will still have unresolved tension despite being friends again and a team. That’s why Max is in a coma. That’s why the Jonathan/Nancy/Steve love triangle was left unclear. That’s why Hawkins is falling apart, Vecna is getting strong again, and the Upside Down is starting to leak into the real world.
There are many things I didn’t like about s4. There are things I think could’ve been done better and clearer to the entire audience. But I’m excited about what’s to come, and after seeing the effort and details put into the show, and how much care and love they put into their characters, I’m choosing to trust we’ll get a good, satisfying ending for the characters we love.
And with that, I’m done here! If you made it this far all I have left to say is thank you and sorry lol.

i finished my rewatch (well, rewatch of s1-s5 + first watch of s6 bc i hadn't seen it before) of lucifer last night so some thoughts
spoilers under the cut
the relationships--platonic, romantic, sexual, parent-to-child, all of them--is the absolute best thing about this show and what keeps me here even when shit gets dumb. the friendship between all the ladies is my fave, but i was extra fond of dan this run and his friendships with amenadiel and chloe were just 10/10. i always liked that he and chloe didn't fall into the hostile ex tropes and were good friends who could co-parent
s3 remains my least favorite and the biggest slog to get through imo, but i still get a kick out of the episode with the undercover sting that has lucifer and pierce pretending to be a couple
s4 also remains my favorite--i feel like it just best encapsulates everything that drew me into the show in the first place
perhaps an unpopular opinion, but i was never a big fan of deckerstar being a fully realized thing. it's obvious that was always gonna be the endgame, but i just like the dynamic between chloe and lucifer a lot more as platonic partners with a little sexual tension and a lot of good-natured ribbing
s6 has some individually good moments, like eve and maze getting hitched--although i saw some people say that came out of nowhere and i respectfully disagree. they're both incredibly impulsive, i think it was very fitting and adorable, and I'm getting teary-eyed again thinking about maze realizing she is capable of loving and deserving of being loved
but anyway the A plot is built off a premise i hate so much: time travel. i loathe time-traveling shit in stories like this, where could it be explained as plausible (and they try, with chloe, i think, pointing out like 'well your brother can freeze time, is this really that much different?' yes, writers-via-chloe, it is, because you used the time-freezing in interesting moments and time travel is all around stupid) but it otherwise comes out of nowhere. and with a fuckin' future kid driving that plot? gross, no thanks
i mean, rory was mostly inoffensive, minus her telling lucifer she wasn't going to the suit fitting and then getting mad when he wasn't there, like girl, you did that one yourself. but if you're gonna introduce a main character in the last season of a show, that character had better be fuckin amazing, and she was not
i suspected i was probably never gonna be wild about how deckerstar wrapped up just because that was like the only relationship i was never super into, but again, the time travel shit is just dumb. I'm just really annoyed at the time travel loop thing being essential to lucifer finding his true calling or whatever and it was nice to see that chloe was always surrounded by friends even after he was gone, but omg what a fucking sacrifice on her part for real. i think it was meant to be a mostly happy ending with their reunion and it just did not hit that way for me. chloe deserved better
but ranting aside, i do still think it's a really fun show and there are so many prime comfort-food-watching moments that were perfect for a little casual holiday viewing <33

fuck it friday *shrug emoji*
@elvensorceress has been tagging me in fic writing posts for ages (thank you, love you, mwah! 😘💖) and i always think i have nothing to post, but then a post earlier this week reminded me that i have a half finished hadestown au s4 fix it fic for the magicians just languishing here on my hard drive. it's still barely friday, so why not.
i went out for drinks tonight, came home and read my draft, and didn't hate it, which is always great. i'd need to rewatch the show though to finish it, and i don't think i'm ready to handle those brain worms, even after all this time. but have a snippet anyway! the gang's gonna take desperate measures to get q back from the underworld:
“You again,” the dragon hisses at Julia, casting the rest of them only a cursory glance. “What do you want?”  “We seek passage to the Underworld,” Julia replies, and Eliot hears her voice shift from a hapless fantasy nerd to the goddess she never got the chance to be. “And a guaranteed return.”  “What, all of you?” The dragon snorts, shooting out a curl of flame that burns itself out just before it hits Julia in the face. To her credit, she doesn’t flinch. “Haven’t I sent you there before?”  “Yes,” Julia replies. “To get my shade.” “And you succeeded! Why are you bothering me again, little mammal?”  “We need to find someone,” Julia says, and this time her voice cracks, and now she is just unbearably human. Hurt and grieving and desperate. “We need to bring him back.”  “We can pay,” Kady adds, stepping up beside Julia and presenting her bag full of black market goods.  “You come offering me trinkets?” The dragons asks, sounding insulted. “I don’t need anything from your hedge market, girl. Find something better, or get out of my home.” “I got this,” says Margo and Eliot looks down at her in surprise, but she’s already shouldering her way forward, planting herself in front of Julia and Kady. Eliot watches, grossed out and horrified in equal measure, as Margo yanks her fairy eye out of her head and holds it up before the dragon. “What’s a fairy eye worth to ya?”
tagging @serenity-the-firefly and @hetrez because you two are the only ones i remember from the fandom lol but absolutely feel free to ignore this

just finished buffy and while i hated that willow erased tara's memory back in season 6, i am really wishing she would perform a spell on me so i can experience this show again for the first time. i have tears streaming down my face. the only other episode where i cried like this was the season 5 finale the gift. i started this show last july so it took me almost a year to watch, and it has been a ride. i truly didn't think i'd like this show as much as i did but it was really something. first off, i thought the continuity was overall really good. obviously no show is perfect and i'm sure i'm missing some errors or plot holes since i've only seen this once, but i was overall impressed with the way this show brought plots and details back from previous seasons/episodes, and the details that predicted future episodes. not to mention bringing back characters or things that would only be a one time thing in other shows, like amy as a rat or oz as a werewolf over multiple seasons.
the characters were great, and i can't stress enough how much i loved that all them were flawed. there were times where i loved them, were completely neutral about them, were annoyed with them or angry with them. but this is why i liked them overall. because they had their good and bad traits about them which made them more interesting and human. their development was also great and fun to watch (sidenote: i really like wesley and cordelia's development on angel. well, i liked cordelia's but i just finished s4 so uh. yeah.)
right now i have no thoughts, only emotions about the finale. i'm really sad anya died. i did not have a good feeling about her with the way she kept talking in this ep but i'm still so upset. i loved her bluntness and the way struggled with becoming human. i hated the scene where they were escaping the school and xander was calling for anya but couldn't see her lying not too far from him. and i wish they gave her death a little more screentime? i'm also surprised xander didn't cry when he found out she died. she was the only main character to die too? (i mean, spike did i guess but i already know he's in angel season 5 so.) for a second i thought faith was gonna die when all the ubervamps piled on her and we didn't see her for a while. and my god the potentials annoyed me but i was kinda sad to see amanda die as she was the least annoying to me. i also can't believe the entire town of sunnydale was destroyed. i mean i guess i should've expected that but i didn't? i laughed when they went to the edge of the road and looked at what was left and the "welcome to sunnydale" sign just fell into the abyss.
i hardly rewatch drama shows (shows that are 45 min, multiple seasons, except you west wing my beloved <3) but this show is definitely rewatchable. i probably wouldn't rewatch for a long while, but it would be fun to pick up on details i missed the first time around. anyway yeah i'm gonna leave it here. at least i have season 5 of angel left.

I am drowning in half-planned fic right now because I made the mistake of rewatching Veronica Mars (and seeing the new season) and then there was very very little of the stuff I wanted to make me feel better, so I am now writing it myself all at once??? (Yes, juggling like six AUs at once is a bad idea, no I did not do it on purpose.) And I know better than to post unfinished stuff, so give me some feedback, guys:
What are people interested in?
(Relevant information: I am here for Weevil, and I am decidedly not here for Logan. Also, these are mostly not the actual titles, I just don’t have one yet.)
Finish the short ones first!
*The long, sad, bittersweet Weevil/Jade reunion, where she runs into trouble post S4 and has no one else to call. (Pros: As a (long) oneshot, will probably be finished in the next millennium! I’ve also not only started it but made some decent progress. Has a likely sequel which is… maaaybe less sad. Kind of. Jade POV, which is, uh, scarce. Cons: Sequel is less well-planned-out and kind of self-indulgent, this is a ship that like two people are on. Also it’s sad.)
*Five Children Veronica Mars Never Had (Pros: Short enough it might get finished before the heat-death of the universe! I’ve also already started it. Takes a bit of a turn from the typical children-as-a-ship-exploration/validation these things often have (most of these children are not biologically Veronica’s). Novel canon is relevant! Some very solid V/W friendship in at least one. Cons: Tremendously, horrifically depressing; I literally just keep killing people to make the premise work. Very little shipping.)
*The Jade/Eli Chronicles (Pros: Related oneshots so, again, will probably be finished in a semi-reasonable time. Fluffy if you block S4 from your memory. Jade gets, like, lines. Cons: Not a ton of substance, only happy if you block S4 from your memory, this is a ship that two people are on.)
*Five (Or Some Number) Worlds Veronica Didn’t Grow Up In (Pros: Fun crossovers/fusions! All the chapters will be more standalone, so I might even post it serially. A BtVS where Veronica isn’t the Slayer (Lilly was). Animorphs!!! Cons: Fusions are automatically disinteresting if you don’t know the other canon. Some of them are not super well-developed yet. Also, how do you make Veronica Mars more upsetting? Cross it with Animorphs!)
I want longfic, because the literal problem is not enough V/W longfic!
*Veronica Mars, Intrepid Reporter
A Lilly lives AU where canon splits whenever Lilly (doesn’t) begin her affair with Aaron. Veronica copes with Duncan’s sudden cold shoulder by becoming an investigative high school journalist.
Pros: This is my first-concieved AU, and maybe the project I’m most proud of? (Pending completion.) Heavy focus on the death of Marisol Reyes. Features a not-irredeemably-awful high school experience for Veronica. Lilly is still flawed as per canon but she’s not evil and she loves her brother and her friends. Eventual (very eventual) Veronica/Weevil. Meg lives. Lots of Keith and Veronica’s relationship. Probably the most optimistic of all my AUs.
Cons: Spans a long time and will probably be gigantic (these things always get bigger once I’m writing them), so will take approximately forever to finish. Planned out to some extent but not started yet. Somewhat critical take on Logan (I almost put that in the ‘pros’ column but I know how the fandom is about him).
*The Lawsuit Story
An AU where Weevil doesn’t settle as soon as in canon (or maybe Lamb just panics quicker), and an attempted attack on him kills Jade instead.
Pros: Hello to the novel canon! This is probably my favourite of all the universes I’m messing around with. The Weevil/Veronica friendship is so strong with this one that I am legitimately conflicted over whether to actually even have them get together. Valentina has an extremely strong presence and I love her. It's pretty charitable to Logan, considering I wrote it. Carmen makes a few appearances. Celeste Kane goes down.
Cons: This was originally just part of ‘Five Children…’ so the long version probably won’t be written until that’s finished. May or may not contain Weevil/Veronica, but if it does, it is a loooong wait. Does contain LoVe.
*High School Revenge Story
Another Lilly lives AU, where Lilly definitely IS having an affair with Aaron. And also Weevil, but not anymore. And also, Veronica’s (post-Troy) boyfriend. Anyway, Veronica finds out about the last point and decides to get revenge/prove she’s not some virginal innocent sidekick by hooking up with Lilly’s sidepiece, who she imagines wants to piss Lilly off as much as she does.
Pros: Not only is it Veronica/Weevil, but Veronica/Weevil is, like, eighty percent of the plot. There’s definitely smut (plot- and character-advancing, even!). There’s an unexpectedly touching strangers-with-benefits relationship even before the extremely unplanned pining. This one felt the most like the show when I was planning it out, especially with the nature and timing of the twists. Lilly is not evil, she’s just a teenager in over her head who doesn’t want to admit it and coping maladaptively.
Cons: I always feel weird touting porn as a selling point when I wrote it, because I have had zero sex in my entire life (although I am thirty, and I feel like life experience and general knowledgeableness about actual human anatomy count for something here). I have not started this one yet, although it’s more or less outlined. Logan also does not come off well (this is because he is a teenager having a Very Bad Time, but his actions are still not excusable). This was originally two different AUs before I realized they should probably be one (I cannot say what the other one was, because it’s a major spoiler), so there’s the possibility of disjointedness where they meet. Also, I’m not entirely sure I have the chops to pull this one off – there’s a lot of dark stuff going on under the surface (well, there’d have to be, for the plot to work, because otherwise it’s just very OOC), and it’s not the kind of thing that’s usually my forte, but I’m going to give it a shot anyway.
*Platonic Co-parents
AU where Veronica stays at Hearst. She and Weevil have a one-night stand in her third year and end up getting a child out of it.
Pros: It’s just a lot of fun! It’ll probably end up W/V but in the meantime they’ve got a solid, supportive friendship going on, to the aggravation of everyone either of them tries to date. (“What do you mean your daughter’s father is sleeping on your couch because the hot water broke in his apartment???”) I have a later scene planned out where they go to the high school reunion separately and deliberately show everyone the same picture of Mariana to see if anyone realizes it’s the same kid, which sums up the vibe pretty well. There is Keith+Weevil awkwardness and then probably some Keith+Weevil friendship later on. Lots of time given to Weevil’s family. Also, Veronica looks into Susan Knight’s suspicious drowning. I have also (technically) started it.
Cons: Listen, I know it’s a reach for Veronica to be willing to have a child at this point in her life, but I’ve done my best to justify it and I think I did okay. Plus, you know, the entire premise is a junk food trope – it’s not evil, but it’s trite. I love it anyway.
No, I want something else/FINISH YOUR OTHER STUFF
*[Earth’s Children] The story where an adult Durc and Brun’s former clan meet the post-Ayla Lion Camp!
Pros: Ambitious dual narrative I think I’m pulling off well (time divergent; one strand moving forward from the first encounter, one from Ayla’s departure), lots of screentime for supporting characters with wasted potential (Vorn, Frebec, Ura, Brac, not to mention Durc), several chapters already written.
Cons: Extremely ambitious so it will take me forever to finish, there’s basically no one in this fandom.
*[Earth’s Children] The Echozar/Joplaya fic
Pros: Actually develops their friendship into something that makes sense, development of Echozar’s childhood and of the Lanzadonii, I’ve got a rough outline and a few pages written.
Cons: Definitely chaptered so it will take some time, there are even less people in this part of the fandom.
*[The Old Guard] Give An Inch Fall A Mile (Joe and Nicky friendship-with-benefits their way into being Joe and Nicky)
Pros: Lots of sex scenes (obviously) on which I have had positive feedback, several chapters written (probably half-finished), I'm very proud of the writing quality on this one, and I absolutely should be writing this first.
Cons: I have been stalled out on it for more than a year, it may not be finished before the new movie comes out and possibly makes it incompatible with canon.
*[Veronica Mars] The Firebird AU… crossover… fusion… thing
Post-S4, Veronica travels through alternate universes and learns that she needs to get her shit together and apologize to Weevil.
Pros: Um, the Firebird Trilogy is cool but is not required knowledge for entry, alternate universes are neat, and even though this idea is probably dumb I can’t stop thinking about it. It would probably even technically comply with canon.
Cons: Half of the universes I have up my sleeve are from the AUs mentioned above, so it probably won’t get written (if it does) until they’re finished in like ten to twenty years. The actual plot is thin; I mostly have a bunch of scenes. There is a decent chance this idea is self-gratifying and pointless, but I also just cannot stop thinking about it.
*[Veronica Mars] Zombie Apocalypse
Post-S4 zombie apocalypse lands Veronica and Keith on a stolen yacht with a bunch of Weevil’s gang, Jade and her new boyfriend, and this one other guy.
Pros: There’s a lot of compelling (I think) personal drama, which is largely not rooted in anyone being an asshole (except Veronica, but that’s canon and I can’t do anything about it except try to fix it with zombies). Weevil finds out his kid is trans and does his best to speed-run the acceptance ladder despite his personal doubts because he’s extremely concerned about being killed by zombies (and thinks he's dying for a minute) and knows this is his only chance to make them feel supported. Eventual W/V, probably.
Cons: I do not know where I’m going with this. Author is not trans herself and might fuck up.
*[Veronica Mars] The Babysitter Effect
Valentina’s babysitter is still in the truck when Weevil stops to help Celeste, and she witnesses everything.
Pros: Teenage awkwardness, but in a fun way. Weevil gets the justice he fucking deserves. Beginning already written.
Cons: I have no plans at all for what happens after the inciting incident, and even if I did I don’t know how long this would be.
Soooo... if you're not in the Silm fandom you've probably never seen my writing before, but I'm happy to back it up with excerpts! Please ask me for excerpts.
If I keep up the volume of writing I've been doing I can probably get something substantial finished by the end of the year but I need input, please weigh in even if we're complete strangers and you found this post two years from now, best-case scenario I can link you to the completed fic. :)

I will always cry the second I see Korra and Asami grasp hands in the S4 finale. While I never watched it on TV as a kid because I kinda fell out of the loop when it came to TV shows, watching it for the first time was such a special moment for me. I always related to Korra as a character when I was little, and whenever I would start and watch the show again I always saw myself in her- so to see her falling in love with a girl after I had finally accepted myself for my sexuality was just one of the most amazing things to me. I downloaded the Turf Wars comics in 2020 and read them non-stop, always going back and reading anything that had to do with Korra and Asami. And now here I am, in 2022, I finished a full rewatch of the show and now I still get emotional watching that final scene, especially knowing that it leads to such a time of genuine happiness in Korra and Asami’s lives.

hiii it’s me again!! just finished s1 of nancy drew with so many thoughts and feelings!!! (you said report back so i hope this isn’t too much)
you were so right that nace is the slow burn. the LOOKS (ace in the background of so many scenes … oh my god) and the subtle buildup !!!! it’s a great foundation for them and the way they complement each other is lovely. it’s giving he fell first she fell harder. i am seated and ready but oh my god they better figure their shit out by the end of this show PLEASE
i’m loving the world building so far and am dying to know more about hb and the history of all the supernatural stuff. the group dynamic is really well done and i was really impressed with how funny it is!
favorite moments so far:
ace breaking carson out of jail
hiding lucy’s bones at the claw
nancy confronting carson about her birth
ace and nancy at the library
plantanchors
george confronts ryan about their relationship
HI!!!! (Definitely not too much.)
S1 nace is EVERYTHING TO ME!!!!! And rewatching it's crazy to see how much you can find there. Although the writers weren't for sure going that direction yet, Kennedy and Alex did not hold back.
The Drew Crew is easilyyyy a best part of the show. They all bring something different so no matter who you have on screen you have an interesting dynamic. If you're loving Horseshoe Bay and all the stuff there, there's SO MUCH good stuff to come. S2 is actually my favorite season, and in s4 the storyline is very HB-focused.
Lol Ace breaking Carson out of prison is the funniest thing ever. He had to help out his future wife!
1x16 is one my absolute top episodes. The whole sequence when Tamura shows up and they're all hiding the bones is comedy gold. But then in true Nancy Drew fashion, you have a really emotional aspect to the episode too when Nancy finds out about Lucy.
LIBRARY SCENE!!!!!! That's where I started shipping them.
Bess and Ace's relationship is just soooo 🥺🥺🥺 I'll love them forever.
Ryan and George is one of those things where I'm like whyyy would you include that. But that scene is well done. Leah has a lot of good scenes like that where she nails a monologue.
I hope you like s2!!!! I mentioned it's my favorite, and it really is one of those seasons where it's just iconic episode after iconic episode. A lot of bottle episodes too so the character development you get from that is awesome.

I finally watched AOT's last episode and frankly, I am not okay, I have been sobbing a river oh my fucking god.
Anyways, it was really good, as expected of MAPPA anyway, I was pretty much crying the whole episode actually.
I have complaints, mostly because of the not included anime, little things like not having the flashbacks of Armin of reading a book in the rain, the squirrels etc. etc. I would have love to see them in the market and the way to the boy who sought freedom, goodbye was not implemented, I WAS WAITING FOR THAT COME ON
The anime only scenes were good too, like Levi giving food to the refugees, falco and gabi, i wish we saw their outfits tho, they slayed with that one.
the way they played 13 no fuyu, im killing myself, ive been listening to that shit since 2022 which mind you was when i was active once more in aot, the fucking flashbacks my god, that was so tragic RAHHH
i also saw aot's op, EREN WITH A BOW? EREN WITH A BOW!!! MIND YOU I JUST FINISHED WATCHING THE HUNGER GAMES SO IMMEDIATELY IM LIKE YES YES IT'S GIVING KATNISS EVERDEEN, WITH WHAT HIM BEING HUMANITY'S HOPE, ESP WITH THE FIRE COMING OUT OF IT FORMING A BIRD
THE SAME BIRD WE SAW ON S4 ENDING 1, oh my god, the opening was really cool omg, it perfectly showcased eren's journey, what he went through, despite being absent in the final chapters, it still showed Eren was still the protagonist...Which isayama did not understand when he made 139
Yes, I am bitter still with the ending, no, I am not hearing anyone out and no, I am not going to pour my disappointments with it STILL, here because yeah.
It's such a shame that's the last and final time we'll ever see it, devastating tragedy omg.
ARMIN AND EREN'S FINAL INTERACTION, IM GLAD THEY MADE THEM HOLD HANDS, THANK YOU MAPPA, PLS THE WAY THEY'LL BE TOGETHER FOREVER AND WILL BE WAITING FOR EACH OTHER IN HELL, GAGGED, IM DEAD, MY ROMAN EMPIRE FOR REAL
Now that's out of the way.
It's been a long and fun ride, regardless, the final season has been going for what three years, i've been with this series for three years, it was fun really it was, this series took such a simplistic and cliched approach then twisted into something more complex and truly gutwrenching. 2020 was nothing without AOT, in my opinion, watching AOT broadened my media consumption, yanked me into the anime world and i already have so many fandoms i'm in.
2020 was a hard time too, i couldn't have done it without this bloody series, god, i remember aboarding the train hype, everything was everywhere, fics, art, videos, memes etc. All those I read influenced my writing style, all those theories made me think more critically, those memes and videos of it made me laugh. It's funny how a series like this one comforted me so much.
I remember being so traumatized by the first episode i'm like who the fuck would ever like this series with this much blood and that night i immediately searched for eren fics because i was like who is this boy i like him, i fucking dreamt of the beast titan, all those nights racing with my sister who could finish the series first, i literally woke up at 4 just to watch it before she could.
Fucking terrified which of my favorite characters were going to die next, literally sobbing over armin's death, god and the mindfuck with Marley and Eldians and Subjects of Ymir in the fray oh my god.
Can I just say, I wouldn't be who I was without AOT? Even with my cynical behavior, it's all because of it.
2021 who i never fail to reiterate and think fondly is good because of AOT as well, I figured wow, the final season is coming back, I should rewatch it again and so the hyperfixation began, i was sick too, almost dying too actually, dengue is dangerous and it was just a fond memory because i was watching aot and i acted like i never had watch these scenes in my life and despite feeling like dying i felt okay.
I was so batshit crazy when part 2 came out, that was the one that was actually peak AOT don't lie, I was literally screaming like i was giving birth OVER AN OPENING AND AN ENDING, i'll never forget any of it.
When I cried watching the whole episode, it really just occurred to me that this is really the end for AOT, i was only ever able to go through it because I have the anime and it what really kept the whole fandom alive, the anime's honestly the reason why it had this many fans as you can see.
And again the way it's heartwrenching for it to just be a simple series and then it's full blown war, jean and reiner holding out to each other, remembering how they used to be close and comrades then betrayals and war happened and it's all ruined.
The devastating realization of seeing the last few panels animated, watching the end flash through the screen, realizing there was nothing out of this now, no more next episodes, no more hype, it's gone and it's so devastating because how happy it made you, the way you'll never see these characters again, only in rewatches or art. But it's not the same.
I admit I don't feel as hyperfixated over it now, after getting burnt out of it last year, even good things go badly sadly and i was just here for eren now, but doesn't change the fact this series has nurtured my quarantine, i grew up with this series even if it was only recent, who changed the trajectory of my life and had me find my paths.
I'll never forget these characters who made my life, who brought life to the story, even if they were just moved by the plot now, i'll always have a soft spot for AOT, i will always love it, regardless how much i hate it, there will always be fondness within it.
It's kind of weird, really to see Levi who has done so much to the fandom just by existing and being drawn and animated now cease to exist? I suppose, looking at him feels weird like imagine comparing 2014 levi to 2023 levi now omg, that's where you really begin to realize how much time has passed and how much AOT has evolved AGAIN JKSDHJ
well, i'm still on eren's side, still hate what happened to him but i'll always love him, he is such an important character to me, i don't think i truly ever loved someone like him despite representing the total opposite of me, he just had that charm i suppose, his views are so hauntingly beautiful, idealistic, him representing hope, despite what he did, in the end he did what he could for himself and for his people IN MY HUMBLE ONION
eren yeager i'll always love you
i'm kinda scared what would happen to this fandom now, will it die now? Will it live? I doubt, I haven't even finished my eren fic and lol, either way i hope someone will still enjoy AOT, i hope still there will be new watchers.
This is long but this is just how I really feelt about AOT which I wholeheartedly do love and cherish with all the memories and the pain it gave.
Thank you Isayama for this world, for these characters, for these mindblowing revelations about war, life and freedom, for the heartaches and the joy.
Thank you WIT for raising AOT and truly breathing life to it, for garnering fans for it to be more appreciated.
Thank you MAPPA for continuing WIT's legacy, you are not the same but still delievered, thank you for carrying the final season and the fandom on your back, may you sleep well and have your deserved pay.
Thank you for the voice actors who breathed those memorable lines to be used in edits.
Thank you Linked Horizon for coming back, aot was iconic because of your openings.
Thank you AOT for everything.

Hi! :) Just wanted to say I finally got around to watching Bates Motel (finished season 4 today, so, a whole more season to go) and oh my goodness, I am BLOWN to pieces already. I think the last couple of episodes of season 4 will stay with me forever, Norman going full on insane and poisoning Norma, Romero's grief, the funeral scene and then, of course, the final one with the... body and Chritmas hallucinations. I just sat there for whole twenty minutes in total shock after the credits and cried. It was so nerve wrecking, devastating, sad and horrifying at the same time, and the acting and emotions are just PHENOMENAL. I don't think I'm quite ready for season 5, to be honest, but I already want to rewatch the whole show later. Um, I hope it's okay to talk to you about this. I remembered you said you loved Bates Motel and I want to say this again, YOUR TASTE ROCKS. I see why it left such a huge impact on you and I feel like it's already left an impact on me too. CHILLS. I love this, and I hate this, because the show is so beautifully made and the atmosphere is just... chef's kiss, I loved how many emotions it made me feel but god is it terrifying. P.S. After I'm finished get ready to me reblogging a whole bunch of Bates Motel content from your blog, because 1) I'm wrecked and 2) I've always loved YOUR posts and analysis, and I really want to know your thoughts. Also, if there are some articles\posts\analysis written by you or other people which you love and think are important, I would LOVE to read those as well. No pressure of course! P.P.S. Dylan and Emma are my darlings, they are so sweet together my heart melts, I love them and worry about them :(
hello my darling!!! it is ALWAYS okay to talk to me about things, and ahhhhh i love being able to share them. SO SPOOKY BECAUSE I WAS THINKING ABOUT BATES MOTEL THIS MORNING. (i still have not finished it. three episodes to go and i keep holding onto them...inexplicable behavior.) instead of finishing it, i looped back around and was rewatching it, and i need to go back to that.
the last two episodes of S4, i feel like i could write copious essays about them. they're just some of the most masterful television i've ever seen. every adjective you used: nerve-wracking, devastating, horrifying. tragic and yet rendered with such poignancy. the scene of norman quietly, deliberately walking through the hushed house, closing the vents, the eerie strains of mr. sandman playing over it, the flame of the pilot light, shots of the empty rooms already haunted, is on my list of top searing images rendered in a show. and it's so, so much more effective and impactful that what he's doing isn't out of rage or hatred, but out of a terribly warped sense of love, dedication, and protection. he isn't trying to destroy her because he hates her, because he feels suffocated by her, but because he's so lost that he believes they're too broken, he believes this will give them peace and reunion. it wouldn't be nearly as moving if he were acting out of anything but that distorted love. then his eulogy. the graveyard. the house and motel transforming for christmas. it's kind of a perfect distillation of modern gothic horror, because it's gruesome and cataclysmic, but somehow beautiful. and oh, alex romero. his searing agonizing grief and his mad rage. what really crushes me is both of these men, though they proclaim love and devotion to her, never entirely view norma as her own autonomous being - norma is always filtered through their needs and desires, their idealizations of her, the pedestals they want to put her on, the dreams they have of and for her. norma, in the entirety of who she is, only exists for us. the audience. we see her, and know her, in her whole self, with her agency, apart from the various men circling her, using her, wanting things from her, and there's nothing we can do to save her. we know going in that the basement awaits. the show's greatest magic trick is in getting us to sympathize and fall in love with her so that the impact of wrenching her away is still shocking and unfair. i sat in numb silence and shock after the end of 4x09, and wept after 4x10.
I remembered you said you loved Bates Motel and I want to say this again, YOUR TASTE ROCKS. 🥺😭💔💖 thank you so much, this makes me so happy (can we say that in this context?!) and is an honor.
I love this, and I hate this, because the show is so beautifully made and the atmosphere is just... chef's kiss, I loved how many emotions it made me feel but god is it terrifying. same on all counts.
my #bates motel tag is open to any time, there's always a vacancy for you. 😉 i'm certain there's good meta on here (unfortunately a lot of blogs are inactive or deactivated), i feel like i probably have some posts, but the only ones i could pull up quickly were my own? this one, on norma, and a simple one of literary references. if you find more, please send them my way too! i would love to read them and any more of your thoughts you'd like to share!!!
P.P.S. Dylan and Emma are my darlings, they are so sweet together my heart melts, I love them and worry about them :( something that took me quite by surprise was how much i grew to care about and empathize with both dylan and romero (emma's a sweetie from the beginning!), you wouldn't necessarily expect it, and yet the show did such a phenomenal job of building each character's depth and humanity, and really exploring the layers to them, why they do what they do, without the need to vilify them (the same being most prominently true of norma and norman themselves), and i respect that writing immensely, even when it's difficult and terrifying, it never forgets the human element.
