CW: Ransome, kidnapped, cold whump, hurt/comfort
Whumpee's been kidnapped as ransom. Caretaker immediately gives in to whumper's demands and shows up to the trade alone. It's raining and the dark clouds could fool anyone for night.
Caretaker's was already freezing, but their blood ran colder as they watched whumper yank whumpee out of the back trunk hardly dressed.
Whumpee's sluggish, drowsy, confused; they're shaking and their arms are bound behind their back. They feel themselves get shoved towards caretaker as they nearly topple over. Caretaker rips their own coat off and bundles whumpee in it, holding them tightly by the shoulders. They nearly drag them to the car trying to get away from here as fast as possible.
Even though they're in caretaker's arms, whumpee still expected to be shoved in the trunk, it was what they were used to by now. It felt strange being put in the front seat with the heater, a blanket tossed over them and a bottle of water placed in their lap.

Chrom x Robin Commission (Chrom is kidnapped and Robin is not having it!!!)
You weren’t necessarily trying to hide the fact that you and Chrom were romantically involved, but it’d be a lie to suggest you were being open and public about it.
No, you preferred to keep that to yourself, more than anything. You didn’t want it to change what people thought about you, even if that meant watching Chrom be flirted with by noblemen and women alike, waiting for their chance to catch his eye whenever you’d stop in town.
It was the one pitfall of courtship during war, aside from the obvious. The times in town, which were relatively peaceful, you found to be more stressful than a battlefield.
You had to stand by and watch Chrom be swooned over and watch them try over and over to steal him from you.
The only issue was that Chrom didn’t seem to rebuff them as often, nor as decisively, as you preferred. You knew he could be a bit oblivious, and that he wasn’t the most capable at expressing his boundaries until it was far too late (the Frederick propaganda posters came to mind immediately).
But you were starting to get more and more frustrated with it, the longer it went on. And now that you were nearing the end of the journey to fight with the bastard king of Plegia, you were finding the management of stress much more difficult than before.
So naturally when you stopped in a bordertown just north of the territory line, you thought it would be ideal to kick back, enjoy a pint with your favorite long-sword-wielding prince, and try to indulge in some relaxation before it was time to return to reality.
“Robin! They’ve got some excellent mead here- I brought you a mug.”
“Oh,” You smiled softly at your dear prince, glad to accept the offering. “I was going to get a pint in a moment, so thank you for being proactive. Did you manage to escape the bar unscathed?”
“Well, I received a few interesting looks, but I think the cloak ought to be enough cover.” Chrom explained; being so close to the edge of Plegia meant that there was a good chance there would be soldiers and informants scattered around the place.
Frederick was insistent that if Chrom were to join them for a night in town today, he’d be concealing the hair, and the mark. There was no need to risk him being in public more than they already were, already.
But even then, it was difficult to conceal his particularly handsome face. You were slightly biased in your belief that he was ridiculously handsome, but you weren’t going to hide the truth; you loved that man.
The only problem was that others seemed to be infatuated with him, too.
“Chrom, you didn’t let them see too much of you, right? We’re so close to Plegia, I’m worried that if the wrong person saw your hair…”
“Nothing to worry about. I promise,” He reassured you, setting the mug in front of you. “Now let’s talk about something more fun. Now that we have some time away from the army- I’d like to explore our future a little bit.”
“In a place like this?” You laughed, “Wouldn’t you rather we discuss that somewhere more romantic? Maybe out in the valley, under the stars…somewhere more ‘talk about the future’ like?”
“Nonsense! There’s no time like the present! Well, that, and I just can’t wait to talk about it. There’s so much to discuss!” He told you in earnest, covering your hand with his. “I’d love to talk about wedding plans, in particular. When we can get back home…what do you think- something big and elegant, or small and private?”
“Does…does someone in your position get to make a decision like that? I have a feeling we won’t be allowed to have a small wedding.” you mused, but Chrom insisted.
“We can have a small ceremony and a big party, if you want it. I’m happy with whatever you prefer. Both sound great to me!” He smiled, “So long as we finally get to show everybody how we feel.”
“That wouldn’t be bad. Maybe…when we get back, my mind will change, but…for now, I like the idea of an intimate ceremony. The Shepherds likely won’t be able to handle a small party, though. I can’t see Vaike and Basilio allowing a good party to go to waste.”
“That’s true,” Chrom chuckled, “Then, how about-”
“Excuse me, if I may…” a man suddenly loomed over your table, catching your attention. “I couldn’t help but notice how particularly attractive your friend is, here. I wondered what he might look like with the cowl pulled back?”
“I’m afraid he’s taken, sir.” You sighed, nodding your head towards your still-held hands. “If you don’t mind, we’d like to return to our conversation.”
“No, no, I don’t mind-” The man lifted his own hand, and suddenly the tavern grew quiet.  The only sound that perforated the building was that of the doors latching shut.
Chrom’s grip on your hand tightened. You were in danger.
“I won’t ask a second time- show me your face.”
“We’re under no obligation to do what you ask,” Chrom rose from his seat, keeping his head low. You stood beside him, quietly reaching for the knife at your hip. “We’re taking our leave. Stand asi-”
Chrom was silenced by a hand at his throat, the shocking stranger launching at your husband before you could even blink.
The other hand ripped his cowl away, revealing a shock of blue hair.
“Chrom-!!” You weren’t able to get another word in before you were suddenly attacked by the people around you. The tavern erupted in violence, men and women alike throwing themselves at you and the prince.
It didn’t take long to put the pieces together, as every enemy that came closer and closer to you were slashed away.
The entire tavern was filled with Plegians- they knew you were coming.
You didn’t know how- but they were waiting for you and Chrom. And you weren't going to get out of the fight unscathed.
“Chrom!!” You shouted for him, finding his cloak torn away in his scuffle. He as being piled on far worse than you were- he was the one they wanted.
He wasn’t able to get to the blade on his belt- he was being pulled down and restrained.
“Chrom, hold on! I’m-” A fist smashed into your jaw, sending you stumbling to the floor.
“ROBIN!!” Chrom’s voice was muffled in your ears, the sharp ringing disorienting you. The last thing you saw was Chrom’s hand reaching out for you, before something heavy struck your head.
There was pain, and then there was nothing.
-------------------------
It would be roughly twelve minutes before you’d come to, shaken awake by a frantic knight, a tearful princess and an entire horde of Shepherds that were crowded around you.
The tavern had been abandoned, ransacked and simsimply a huge mess.
Frederick would help you sit up, Lissa and Maribelle casting healing spells over you to try and return some of your lucidity.
“Robin…where’s Lord Chrom?” Frederick posed the question first, clearly unsure he wanted the answer. Your eyebrows drew together, fear replacing your confusion.
“What do you…why are you asking me that?”
“You were here together, before the attack. Miriel heard a commotion from the market across the street, but when she came over to investigate, the tavern doors were locked. What happened? Were you and Lord Chrom attacked?”
“Clearly she was, you oaf-” Maribelle snapped, “Did they attack him too? Did they-”
“They were Plegian.” You recalled first, staring up at them, “They were all Plegian. They locked the doors, and a man asked Chrom to take off his hood, and then he grabbed him. I couldn’t…they all came after us.” Your voice became increasingly more shakey with every when your recall came back.
“Lord Chrom was-!” Frederick grimace, rising to his feet, “The entire building is cleared,- he’s not here. We need to organize a search party immediately. We must operate under the suspicion that he has been kidnapped!”
“By Plegians,” Maribelle hissed, “Those monsters!! We were so careful when we came here.” How did they figure it out?’
“I don’t know,” You swallowed, “But there’s no point trying to figure that out now. We have to find Chrom!”
“We do, yes, but you won’t be doing anything.” Lissa jumped in, “You're Injured badly, Robin. They could’ve killed you! If we hadn’t come in when we did, Robin-”
“Thank you,” You cut her off quickly, recognizing the tears in her eyes. “But that’s not important…not right now- we need to focus on getting Chrom back!”
“We need to get you back to camp. Quickly-” Frederick’s jaw was clenched, but he was right. He and Maribelle helped you to your feet, your head still pounding. “Then we will regroup and locate milord.”
“But we don’t know what they want with him. We don’t know if they’re trying to kill him, or-”
“They’re Plegian, so they’re probably going to take him to Gangrel. I don’t know how they figured out where we’d be- but we can’t waste time.”
“We’re not far from the capital- seven days’ time, maybe.” Maribelle said grimly, “If they wanted to take him, it wouldn’t be impossible.”
“Then we’ve done enough talking. We have to go.”
You could ignore the pain, and the dizziness, and the fear. But the one thing you could not possibly hope to ignore was the anger.
They didn’t just take the prince of Ylisse. They didn’t take the Exalt’s brother, the Shepherd’s commander.
They took the man who was to be your husband. And they weren’t going to get him without a fight…one they would be losing.
-------------------------
It did not take long to deduce the source of information that led the Plegians to capture Chrom. There was a mole among the Shepherds.
A woman, an archer trained in Virion’s own squadron, who was weeded out quite quickly once Tharja pointed out the likelihood of it being an internal leak rather than pure luck.
One did not simply fill a tavern with capable enemy fighters.
Within two days, you would have the woman interrogated to the point of revealing everything she knew.
Where they were taking him. What they were doing to him- what they planned to present to Gangrel.
The beaten, bloody prince of Ylisse, to stand “trial” with his sister.
And if all went according to their nefarious plan, it would surely spell the end of the Ylissean army, and lead to the fall of the whole country.
Chrom’s shield and Falchion would be strapped to your back, your Levin Sword and Arcfire tome secure on your waist. If the healers were coming with you, then he’d be able to fight his way out. Assuming he wasn’t injured to the point of needing bed rest.
You tried very hard to shove that worrisome thought down deep.
The Shepherds were rallied with a violent fervor, desperate to bring back the prince before they could get too far.
Miriel and Ricken were able to cast a tracking spell on the Falchion, following the directions you had forced out of the snake in your ranks.
He hadn’t gotten too far away. Mercifully, goddess be praised, the location that had been suggested was several kilometers south of the border town.
There was little doubt they’d be pushing as fast as they could to transport Chrom. With everyone gathered, you were haphazardly planning out how to rescue him, while also moving en route to catch up to them and get him back.
You were riding up front on the back of Frederick’s horse, Hebert, while said knight was galloping at full speed. Miriel and Maribelle were positioned on the backs of Cordelia’s and Sumia’s pegasus, driving as fast as they could into the desert.
“If we keep moving at this pace, we should be at their fort by sundown!!” You shouted over the whipping winds, the sand battering your face ignored as you explained the moving plot.
“Sundown isn’t soon enough- they’ll already be on the move by then!”
“It’d be foolish if they didn’t be on their way by then-” You agreed, stabbing the quill against the shifting map to pinpoint the location. “But they might also be expecting the fortress to be looked over, given the lapse of time! We’ll need to divide the Shepherds- enough to secure the fort! The rest of us will keep driving south!”
“How do we split up??” Cordelia asked, her eyes lasered forward in case she was able to spot Chrom.
“I want flying units, mages and archers with me- we’re gonna keep riding!! I want heavy units and thieves on the fort. Lissa and Frederick, I need you both while Ricken and Maribelle go to the fort as first aid. Are we clear?”
The shouts of your Shepherds made it quite clear that you were heard loud and clear.
There would be absolutely no hesitation from this moment forward.
The snap of Frederick’s reins echoed in your ears, the two of you were galloping for dear life, the pegasus riders swooping above with renewed vigor, now that the plan was put into action.
By the time the sky turned orange, the fortress was in view. You looked to your shifting team, nodding to Sully- your chosen commander for the fort rescue unit.
She growled, thrusting her spear in the air before charging away with them, a war cry rattling even your bones as they thrust themselves into their battle.
And now, it was down to your team.
“I pray they find him there- it would at least mean he’s back in our hands sooner.” Frederick said, digging his heels into the horse’s sides. You frowned, drawing your hood up against the sand beating your flushed skin.
“We can only hope. But if they don’t find him, I pray we’ll be able to find him in one piece”!
Within a half hour, Sumia dove back down, flying nearly side by side with Frederick’s beast.
“We spotted a caravan moving at high speeds, twelve kilometers ahead!”
“How big?”
“It seemed to be only two carts- everyone else was armed. Four wyverns in the air, two pegasus!”
“That’s where he is.” You glowered, drawing your blade. Falchion weighed heavy on your back, realizing how close you were to finding him.
The push forward from that point was no longer a quiet urgency.
As soon as they were in range, the fight was on.
Virion’s arrows were flung into the sky, catching dragon wings and horse’s hips, forcing the flying units down with little mercy or hesitation.
The moment you heard the whinnies of frightened beasts, you knew you were close enough.
“Halt, in the name of the Exalt!!” You bellowed, drawing up your Arcfire and flinging a decisive blast into the path of your enemies.
The carts split apart, horses careening away in a panic. You were quick to direct Frederick to the left, thrusting Maribelle and Stahl towards the cart separated in the opposite direction.
That was when the chaos started.
Panne leapt onto the first Plegian she could reach, her beastly form devastating and quick to defeat her prey. You caught an arrow in your arm, but it was ripped away and countered with a blast of lightning.
As soon as Frederick’s lance could reach, he was cutting away the wheels in a single angry stroke. The back spokes broke loose, and the cart slid back, crashing against the sand.
“Secure the driver!!” You shouted to him, leaping from Hebert’s back and rushing the cart skidding into the ground. It was still being dragged, but the speed being greatly reduced made it much easier for you to jump on.
Frederick rushed to the front, battling the driver to take control of the broken carriage.
You grabbed onto the wooden box, its door cracking and groaning as the walls threatened to come apart.
“CHROM!!” Your voice had yet to break from all the yelling, but you weren’t going to stop until he was safe. A knife was ripped from your belt, driving it into the splintering wood to force an opening.
You hoisted yourself up, peering into the hole and into the dark space.
There were crates, barrels of supplies, but in the very front of the cart, you could see it.
A silver glove, and a dash of blue hair on the floor of it.
“Oh-” You jerked to a sudden stop, Fredrick having halted the caravan. The other Shepherds pressed onward, bringing their battle to an end. But you had bigger things to worry about.
“Frederick!!” You called forth knight, who was sprinting from the seat now that the horses were stopped.
“Robin! Is he-”
“Help me break the door down-”
“Yes-!”
“He’s in there!!”
The lance was traded for his axe, which was breaking the wood down and splintering it away without a second thought.
When it was down enough, you pushed into the space, shoving away the boxes and barrels to force yourself into the space.
“Quickly, you must fetch Lissa!! Get her and Maribelle, I don’t think he’s conscious-”
Frederick’s hesitation was only for a moment- seeing the slightest hint that his prince was in there was almost enough to send him barging in past his liege’s lover.
But he would be quicker than her to get the attention of the healers.
“Chrom!!” His name cracked on your tongue, racing over to him and kneeling into the wood and sand where he laid.
His hands were bound, his body curled inward as though in pain. You shook his shoulder, calling his name again and again. He would not reply.
But he was still breathing. You heaved a shaking exhale, searching your pouch for a vulnerary. There wasn’t much left inside, but enough to ensure he’d stay with you until Frederick came back with the others.
“Chrom, please- I’m here now. I’m here, so please wake up.” You whispered, pulling his heavy frame up so that his head rested in your lap. You tilted his chin up, uncorking the potion and pouring it gingerly.
His breathing stuttered before he swallowed, his eyebrows drawing together suddenly, contorting as he was slowly regaining consciousness.
“Breathe, Chrom, it’s all right…I-I promise, it’s all right now. The healers are going to be here soon. Lissa and Maribelle, and Frederick, and…”
Chrom’s eyes fluttered, his fingers clenching and unclenching against his palms.
“Oh, um…hold on, I can get those…” Awkwardly you leaned forward, trying not to disturb him while you cut away the ropes on his hands.
The moment the fibers snapped away, you felt his fingers wrap around your wrist, clinging tightly.
“Chrom?”
“R…Robin..?”
His voice was such a weary, hoarse and hopeful sound. You slipped your hand back so that you could squeeze his, feeling the tremble of his fingers against the gloves.
“I’m here, my love. I’m right here. We got you.” You whispered, the tears blurring your vision only moments from falling. At last, Chrom’s eyes opened. Glassy, but as blue and vibrant as ever. He was awake.
“You…y-you found me.” He gazed up at you, the almost shocked expression impossible to miss despite his exhaustion, and all the blood and bruises that otherwise hid the view.
“We all did darling, and they’re on the way.” You lifted your head, hearing the clanking of armor and the tense voices that were surely not far away. “Lissa and Maribelle will heal you up, and then we’ll get you back on your feet in no time.”
“Your arm…” He trailed off, brushing his hand against the torn fabric of your coat. You are standing right there, finding the gash on your skin.
“It’s fine. Nothing a bandage can’t fix.” You assured him, “Now stop worrying about your rescuer and focus on yourself, for once.”
He hummed, closing his eyes with a soft sigh. You ran your fingers through his hair, comforting your rescued love. You had no idea what on earth those monsters had done to him, but he was clearly exhausted and was treated harshly. As if you needed another reason to beat down the Plegians…
The silent reverie you found with him, relishing your reunion, did not last much longer. He was back in your arms, but shortly after holding onto him, you found yourselves overwhelmed by an army of anxious men and women.
The clerics took to the forefront, and you were at least allowed to stay in place while he was treated. Best not to move him too much until they knew it was safe to move him.
His breathing became less labored, and his sentences were more sturdy. He stared up at you clearly now, and sought out your hand deliberately despite the mess of people working around the two of you.
“We’re gonna be okay.” You promised, your fingers threading together.
You separated yourself only long enough to get him onto the other cart, which they had been able to preserve its wheels unlike yours and Frederick’s barbaric tactics.
Eventually you returned to camp, to the tearful reunion of the fort party. The place had been run through from top to bottom, but when no one was able to locate the prince it didn’t give them much comfort.
The extra supplies you were able to salvage from the place would come in handy, but that was on the back of your mind at that moment. After all, you had a prince who needed tending.
He would be sent straight to the healing tent, and you would be right behind him, taking up residence in a chair beside his cot while he recuperated.
It would be two days of sleeping before he came around from his healing, but of course the very first thing he did when he could sit up on his own was taking that he took you into his arms and squeezed you close, kissing you over and over until the tent was completely empty for fear of being exposed to the prince’s private affection.
He only managed to pull back to say a tearful thank you, reminding you just how deeply he loved and cherished you more than anything in the world.
Which, of course, earned a response of a thousand more kisses and a tight squeeze, one which would have been impossible to separate you from.
Chrom was home, in your arms. An embrace he hoped he might never leave, again.

Danny is about to be kidnapped in Gotham This is not a good time.
He's studying for the SAT, he's already been kidnapped by Vlad like, four times that week and it was a fucking Tuesday, he forgot his wallet at his new apartment, locked himself out of said new apartment (he could phase through the door but that wasn't the point), he's just been informed that the grant he applied for was denied so he needs to ask his mom and dad for college funds when he'd already told them he had it covered, and just...it was shit.
It had been shit. The entire week had been awful and annoying and he was ready to either murder everyone on the planet or go find a corner to cry in for the next three days.
So when the band of wild goons working for whatever villain of the week pulled up and tried to kidnap him, he snapped.
He used them to vent.
Shouted about how terrible his day had been, how terrible his week had been, how he'd already been kidnapped by his creepy godfather who was way too into him, how college funding was shit and the grant system was rigged, and how he'd have to call a locksmith or break down the door to his own apartment if he wanted to go to bed-all of it. He unloaded all of his frustration.
The goons actually backed off.
One of them gave him an awkward side hug and told him it'd get better.
Danny wasn't paying attention to his surrounding. He doesn't realize that the whole thing was livestreamed.
So when he gets home to his apartment later that day, his door is opened for him by the vigilante Spoiler before he can even turn intangible.
She brought over BatBurger and kidnapped Bruce Wayne, Gotham's bumbling Prince, to talk about college grants.

NU UH
Jack Fenton, dialed his younger sister's phone number as he gazed apologetically at the family of bats, that was hanging around in his living room. he impatiently waited for the other party to pick up.
The Bat family remained stoic as they observed the man, they had or Batman had ordered to put the call on speaker, if ever the phone was answered, Robin had stared at the doorway leading to the kitchen there stood Jack's supposed oldest daughter Jazz. who only stared amused at her father's antics much to Robin's confusion.
finally after a grueling 10 seconds wait, the call was finally answered.
Robin held his breath awaiting for the voice he was expecting for.
"Yes, Ahki?" Talia's voice resonated, from the phone. making everyone's eyes except the Fenton family widen.
'what? mother never told me she had a brother.' Damian thought as he took a peek at his father's face who was scrunched up in confusion. same for the rest of his family.
"Talia, my dear ukht, I've heard from a few birds and bats that you have taken my son. on his fieldtrip." Jack said, his nervous and outgoing personality vanishing and what took place was a serious and angry tone of a father as soon as heard the caller's voice, making everyone in the room shudder at the sudden cold atmosphere while the oldest daughter remained composed and unbothered as she watched.
Silence came from the other side of the phone, before answering "It seems i have." Talia answered back, you can here the voice of a boy in the background asking if it was his dad.
"Stop with this false innocence of yours, bring my son back immediately, partly alive and safe." Jack stated, much to the Bats and birds confusion.
Silence once again, as the phone remained quiet seemingly put down on a table with a few whispers and shuffling. before it was picked up once again.
"Nu uh." was the only thing Talia said as she hang up.
everyone paused.
"The fuck you mean 'Nu uh'?!" Jack yelled, at his phone. While his wife walked their daughter's side who was laughing her ass off, confused she looked at the bats then at her husband and then just sighed.
"Dinner's Ready." she only said as she retreated back at to the kitchen.

Phantom: You know you could’ve used your authority as Queen Regent of the Infinite Realms to stop him, right?
Red Hood: She could what? You’re a what??
Jazz: I was told to only use those powers in an emergency.
Red Hood: You didn’t think being kidnapped by a fucking robot ghost hunter out to skin us alive and hang our pelts as trophies on his wall constituted as an emergency?!
Jazz: No, that happens like every other Tuesday for Phantom here.
Phantom: …
Phantom: I was going to argue but yeah, that tracks.
Red Hood: un-fucking-believable.

Prompt 100
“What are you, a Kent?”
It’s a saying in the world of the supernatural. A well-known one even. See, several, many generations back, no one quite knows when, the Kent family managed to run afoul of a particularly nasty creature who laid a curse upon them. The original wording, no one quite knows either, but the gist, everyone is aware of. For no firstborns will be born to them before they already have one.
It was supposed to be airtight in a way, a curse that would end the entire bloodline really. For a child to exist before they could have a child? How could that be?
Well. That curse had… backfired. It had backfired massively. Most, at least back when blood was everything, didn’t exactly ponder things like adoption to those outside of their own bloodline. The Kents however, lived in a very simple village, one that had disease spread through it often back then, leaving families childless and children parentless.
What were they to do but take them in? And so they had a son, many sons and daughters even, before their firstborn. Now of course, most would simply dismiss it afterwards. After all, that was the end of the story, isn’t it?
Well, no. See, the curse was a family-line curse, a just in case perhaps, that meant that each generation could not have any children until they had children. Perhaps it should have ended there, but well. It didn’t.
Kents are a strange breed in the world of the supernatural, known for having a… bit of an adoption problem. If any child or babe were to be left near their land, one can be assured the family line would take them in as their own.
Fae, demon, human, changeling, satyr, cyclops, half-breeds, werewolf- it didn’t matter. A Kent would gladly pick the child up and raise it as their own. And now, they could add aliens to that long, long list in the family line.
And really, perhaps with this context, is it really surprising that when one Clark Kent, said alien, opens his door to a basket on his doorstep holding a trio of godlings, he takes them in with no questions asked?

Everyone from babies to young adults suddenly disappears from Amity Park, and the ghost portal self-destructs as well. The GIW and the Fentons obviously come to the conclusion that it’s ghosts but realize that this issue is way bigger than they can handle, so they call in the big guns, The Justice League.
Of course, they don’t tell the Justice League everything when they come. No matter how much they thought themselves to be heroes, they were simply glorified police in spandex. And with how they operate, they are all too small-minded and won’t be able to see the bigger picture. They also knew fully well that a lot of their methods weren’t even remotely close to being morally or ethically right, and if the JL found out, they would be screwed. So they simply told them enough to get them on their side.
Besides, how could they not help with how many people were missing? This was going to be easy.
_______
The Justice League didn’t trust the GIW. Something about them was just off. But so many missing people were on the line, so many kids!
Ghost?
Should they call in the JLD?
_______
Jason knew something was off with Crime Ally.
Nothing was wrong per se. In fact, everything was going great. Crime was at its lowest in like… forever. The general atmosphere was more calm, if not a bit chilly. He himself was calmer. And there were fewer kids on the streets. Which would have been a good thing if this wasn’t fuckin’ CRIME ALLY!
Jason’s been stressing himself out, trying to find out what was going on. He’s been searching up and down, talking to people left and right. No one was reporting anything amiss. Some even told him that they still saw the kids walking around, though not as often as before. And they also looked like they were being well taken care of.
He even saw and talked to some of the kids himself and it was the truth.
But when he asked where they went, they only laughed and ran away from him. Shouting that he would know soon before they disappeared around the corner. At this point, he was sufficiently freaked out and was so close to getting Batman to contact the JLD, but something told him otherwise.
A few days later Jason was in bed. He had ended patrol early that night and intended to get a full eight hours if he could.
But as fate would have it, he would not. Because just before he could hit the hay he heard it. Well, felt it would be more accurate but how could you feel a siren’s song? Pulling you? Drawing you in. Telling you that it would give you your deepest desire.
He didn’t even bother to suit back up into Red Hood. He just followed it. Followed and followed, Until he got to a dead-end alleyway. But there was no ‘end’. All there was, was darkness.
He began to get skeptical and took a few steps back. But the feeling was still there. Pulling, telling that all of his answers were in that darkness. Everything he wanted, needed, awaited beyond it.
He did the stupid thing and went into the darkness.
He didn’t know what he was expecting, but it wasn’t the feeling of walking through thick goop. But the feeling didn’t last long, and he eventually stepped out.
Again, he didn’t know what he was expecting, but it wasn’t this.
Kids running around without a care in the world, unrestricted. Teenagers just hanging out and being kids too. Whatever adults he saw all looked pretty young, but they were all happy.
He looked around and noticed that it looked like a weird mix between a suburb and a night market, but it worked quite well. The stalls were all unmanned, and it seemed whoever could just take whatever they wanted. Dim but pretty lights connected all the stalls to as far as his eyes could see. And the sky.
In Gotham, there’s so much smog and bad weather you’d be lucky to even see a piece of blue during the day so no wonder people often forget about the night. But this, the night sky wherever he was, was beautiful, beyond what words and even thoughts could convey.
“Hello, Mr. Red Hood.”
Jason jumped. Was he so out of it that he didn’t even notice someone coming up behind-
Forget what he just said about the sky. The woman right here that was now standing before him? She- She-
“Are you single?”
There was silence. Then she giggled. Guess Jason didn’t need his helmet huh? His face was enough.
He also wanted to die again but hey, at least she laughed!

Whumpee's been kidnapped and dragged down a hall. They're forced back on their feet and pushed towards a wide open door.
"Come in, dear. Don't be shy." A voice lulls for them. A guard shoves them in as they stumble through the door and collapse on their hands and knees. A chuckle rings above them as whumpee raises their head to a whumper they know has a deadly reputation.
"There you are, I've been looking for you." They smiled, trying to coax them to come closer.
"St-stay away from me." Whumpee quivered and tried to stand up. Whumper grabbed them by their shirt collar and yanked them back on their knees.
"I'd lose the attitude. How much I like you is how long you get to live."

Gaius x Robin Commission (Robin gets pregnapped and Gaius is,,, super not okay with it >:O )
Since the end of the Valmese War, and your return to the living world, you found yourself back in the busy world of reconstruction and regrowth.
There wasn’t as much for you to do as a tactician, and since Gaius was a reformed thief turned war hero, he was now on the right side of the law and would become an upright citizen dedicated to helping you restore the halidoms from Ylisstol’s castle.
But what this meant was that while there was plenty of work to be done, there was a lot more free time on your hands compared to war time. Now that things were busy again, it was getting difficult to find time to relax.
The hustle and bustle of a growing halidom meant that more needed to be done by Chrom’s chief advisor, baby or not. Gaius was the one who was most worried about it.
“You know, just because everyone else is getting busy, that doesn’t mean you have to as well, Bubbles.”
You glanced up from your work, where you’d been hunched in your office since the dawn. Your husband didn’t waste much time, closing the distance and circling around your desk. He pulled your chair back, forcing you away from the paperwork.
A small whine escaped you, though your glare was more jovial than annoyed.
“Gaius, this is an important budget proposal I have to review. Miriel was insistent that I give her my recommendations on it by the end of the day-”
“That would’ve been fine four months ago.” He put his arms on either side of you, gripping the back of the chair. “But unfortunately, you’ve been given strict rules not to overwork yourself until the baby’s born. And even then, Maribelle said you’d have to take it easy for another three months.”
“Gods…that’s such a waste of time!”
“She just said to ease back a little.” Gaius reminded you, taking your hands and lowering your arms so that they were wrapped around his waist instead.
He gently rested your head on his chest, smiling fondly at his pouting, pregnant wife.
“It’s still too long.” You sighed, squeezing him close.
“Yes, yes. How ever will you survive without working yourself to death?”
“Oh, hush.” You rolled your eyes, “How about you let me finish this review, and afterwards we can take a nice, long break together.”
“Is there anything I can do for you in the meantime?” His question was earnest, which received a warm smile and a squeeze of his hands.
“I would actually love it if you could bring me some of that herbal tea in the royal kitchen. It helps a lot with the back aches, and I’ve been feeling it for the last couple hours.”
“Sure.” He helped you up, “And would you like a sweet treat with that bitter medicinal swill?”
“That would be wonderful, yes.” You grinned at him, leaning up to kiss him. “Thank you for being so perfect.”
“Why don’t you take a little walk in the meantime? That’ll help with the aching while you wait.”
You opted for a brisk walk in the courtyard. It was actually quite relaxing, and did help ease the tension in your back. The tea would certainly take care of the rest.
Within ten minutes, you opted to head back, figuring Gaius would be ready by then. But when you returned to the office, you found your office empty, only a cup of tea and some biscuits waiting on the desk.
“Guess he had something come up,” You shrugged, had a sip and a bite, and continued with your work. But the ache in your back didn’t ease like normal. A stronger, more irritable ache in your skull started, instead.
“Ugh…” You groaned, pressing your hands to your head. A sudden migraine was abnormal. The world became blurred, a pit in your stomach. This wasn't an illness. It happened too suddenly.
It was poison.
“Gaius…s-someone…” Your words were too quiet and too slurred to be coherent. You tried to stand from the desk, but your legs gave out from under you. The cup crashed to the floor in your attempt to catch the desk.
You felt the stone strike against your head, and then…there was nothing.
-------------------------
Gaius was held up by the lack of tea supplies. For some reason, he couldn’t find the right kettle, or the medicinal herbs, or even the cup you preferred.
The cabinet he had kept everything of yours carefully stored in (the one he shared with you, that most of the royal chefs allowed you two to use)...had been compromised.
Everything was gone.
Gaius was not immediately concerned until he heard from every person he asked in that kitchen if they’d seen your herbs or dishes. To his chagrin, none of them had, save for one…who thought they’d seen Gaius come by earlier to make your tea.
An impostor.
Gaius was sprinting away from them within seconds. Fear and adrenaline spiked, fueling his system to burst towards the monstrous mess that was coming. He fought the panic back as best he could, but deep down he knew what happened
‘It’s been years…dammit, it’s been this long with nothing-!! Why would they go after her now?!’
Gaius swerved around the corner, clearing the corridors and practically running over anyone who stood in his way by mistake. The door to your quarters was still locked, how he’d left it. Surely you returned from your walk by now. He tore the key from his pocket and thrust the door open.
“Robin?! Robin!!” He called after you, but received no response. He rushed to the office,; and his heart dropped to the floor.
Your tea cup was shattered, spilled all over the stone. Your desk was a mess, and your window, behind the chair…was unlatched. On the windowsill was a single flower; a snapdragon blossom.
The calling card of the thieves’ guild.
“Oh no. Oh gods…oh, oh, Robin-” He stumbled over his feet, trying desperately to turn on his heel and break out of the room. The Exalt was summoned frantically, which didn’t take long to cause a chaotic panic among Shepherds.
Gaius shouting “Robin’s been kidnapped!!”, fomented chaos. He was ripping through the palace, and lighting a fire under every single Shepherd he could find.
Soon enough, there was a council room filled to the brim with confused and worried soldiers.
“How did she get kidnapped? It’s not even the dead of night-- how did anyone miss that?!” Stahl asked right out the gate. Frederick grimaced, unfurling a map of the continent and another with schematics of the castle.
“I am uncertain, which is alarming. It is not as if we leave the palace understaffed in terms of security. And Robin is extremely capable of defending herself.”
“That’s because these aren’t your run-of-the-mill criminals we’re talking about.” Gaius said, showing them the flower. “This is a message. It was left on the sill in Robin’s office.”
“A snapdragon.” Miriel observed simply, “It symbolizes deceit, does it not?”
“It does. It’s a message from the thieves’ guild.”
“What?” Sully stared at him, incredulous. “No way! We took down that band of fools ages ago. Hells, you were there! You helped us out!!”
Gaius nodded, recalling the days during the war when he’d provided the imperative information to take apart one of Ylisse’s biggest challenges; its organized crime ring.
He had been a part of it, long ago. Though it had served as little more than another avenue for him to bring in cash when he needed it. The ties had been cut long ago in an effort to preserve himself and his own interests.
He needed to build trust with the Shepherds, and he wasn’t concerned about potential fallout. He didn’t have anything to lose, before.
“They’re using Robin to get to me. They won’t give her back willingly, and I don’t know what they want to trade with me in exchange for her safety.” Gaius’ hands were on the table, scouring the maps in an attempt to avoid the pitying eyes of his friends and allies.”
“They want revenge.” Chrom’s hand was on his forehead, feeling the gravity of the situation increase exponentially. “If they were able to slip into the palace that easily, they knew how to navigate it. There must be a route that they took, right?”
“There’s a good chance they entered through the catacombs beneath; it would be most difficult to spot them there.”
“And where do these lead to?”
“There’s a network all throughout Ylistol. If they were able to access the royal catacombs, then they likely found an opening. And the entrances to the catacombs are…here, here and here.”
The group gathered around the map as it was marked at the southern and north-eastern sections of the castle.
“If they took that route…it would toss them pretty far from one of their hideouts. Hells, we could throw wyvern riders out there just to be safe, but it’s too open.”
His finger drifted from the southern point to the second marker, tapping his finger against the parchment.
“If they came out here…there’s a hideout 50 miles from here. It’s in the hills, and it’s tough to find; harder to get access to. If they‘re back in their hole, I wouldn’t doubt it’s this one.”
“And if they set up a new hideout? One you didn’t help us find?”
“Then I will spend every waking second hunting them down. I’m not leaving a single stone unturned.” Gaius vowed, his glare furious and filled with purpose.
They were not going to get away with the foolish choices they made.
“Gaius, I understand your concern. Truly, I do. We’re all worried about Robin and Morgan. But I want to make sure you aren’t going to do anything rash.” Chrom said firmly, “We cannot risk you going rogue and getting injured because you lost control trying to get Robin back.”
“I would never let that happen.” Gaius snapped at him, “But you’re not gonna stop me from trying to find her. I’m not gonna lose her like this!”
“And you won’t. We’re bringing Robin home.” Chrom reassured him, looking tentatively to his knight commander. “But I don’t want you to get hurt trying to save her on your own. So promise you won’t go after her until we form a plan, as a unit.”
“A unit.” He repeated, his voice quieter. He looked around the room, “The amount of time it’ll take to get everyone ready is time we can’t waste. Just let me do this on my own!”
“We’re going to rescue her as a team- and that’s an order. Trust in us, Gaius.”
The thief was not happy. He was angry, and he was afraid. The guild didn’t work slowly, and they didn’t want her unless he came as a result.
There was no time to spare.
Gaius bit his tongue and nodded, relenting to the Exalt’s command. He watched as the group returned their focus to the map, starting to draw together a strategy.
They would form a final plan within a few hours, at least, and by then everyone would be ready to go.
As far as Gaius was concerned, a few hours was a waste of your time.
-------------------------
“Lord Chrom!!”
Sully’s voice rang out from the armory, where teh Shepherds had gathered hardly an hour earlier. She rushed to him and Lissa, her face pale and jaw clenched.
“Nobody can find Gaius anywhere.” She reported grimly, “And Cordelia reported that we’re missing a Master Seal from our stock.”
“Oh gods.” Chrom pinched the bridge of his nose. “He didn’t.”
“We need to move, quickly.” Frederick spoke from the side, looking just as grim as Chrom. “If he’s hunting them down we cannot risk letting him do more harm by acting alone.”
The Shepherds were whipped into an even more intense frenzy, rushing to go after not just their tactician, but a thief who likely just changed class to something even more lethal.
It was frightening to think what he was going to do next.
-------------------------
Gaius was able to find the guild fairly quickly, thanks to his lingering connections with Ylisse’s underground.
Tracking the hideout down to the southern-most point of the kingdom was what caused the biggest headache. But once he found the entrance he was looking for, there was nothing left to lose.
His class change had brought with it a much more vast knowledge of paralytic poisons, with all sorts of fun side effects that might bring them to the edge of death, but nothing more.
The blades in his hands worked quickly in the cover of darkness, striking out and drawing blood at any thief unfortunate enough to pass him by.
He was rushing through the corridors, the hideout in poor shape and poorly put together. It was clear they were in dire straits.
They would have been welcome to rebuild in his mind, before all of this. Now…well, it was going to be torn down by his own hand.
Veiled in black robes, he navigated swiftly towards their holding cells. It wouldn’t be long before he got where he needed to.
If they were going to hold a prisoner anywhere it would be somewhere secure…especially given the status of their victim.
He climbed to the ceiling, drawing himself up onto the rafters when he reached the guarded doors.
Two men, neither had sensed him yet. The wood creaked beneath his feet where he was suspended. Just as they looked up, a dart struck each of their foreheads.
They both fell silently, slumped to the floor.
That would buy him at least thirty minutes, before the poison wore off. He dropped and fetched the keys, swiftly unlocking the doors and descending deeper into the pit of the hideout.
He barely breached the doorway when he heard a familiar, dry laugh.
“It’s about time you came, boy.”
Gaius froze. Standing at the end of the hall, lined by rusting prison bars and stained blood across the stone. There, at the very end, stood his wife, a knife to your throat, your arms and legs bound.
“Robin-” His heart was in his throat. “Baby, are you hurt? What did they do to you?”
“She’s all right for now, Gaius. If you don’t want anything to happen to your wife, or your child, I would put your weapons down and get your hands up.”
They knew you were pregnant. Of course they knew.
Gaius lifted his arms, taking his weapons out and dropping them to the ground as instructed. Then his hands were in the air.
“All right. It’s all on the floor- I don’t have anything else. Now let Robin go! She doesn’t have anything to do with this!”
“I’m well aware. You gave us all up for a shot at the good life, didn’t you? You thought if you sold out the pepole who took you in and taught you every damn thing you know, that you could live the high life. Have a cushy job in the castle…have a little family…you didn’t think that was gonna really happen, right?”
“Tell me what you want, and let her go- I’ll do whatever you want, so long as she doesn’t get hurt. Just leave her out of this!”
“I’d be happy to…if you hadn’t made such a poor choice. You got to pay for what you did, boy. So here’s what we’re gonna do.”
Gaius’ arms were suddenly yanked behind him, and a boot connected with his stomach before he could even blink.
“Gaius!!”
Your panicked call was quickl silenced with a press of the blade, drawing blood from your skin. Your captor shoved you forward, forcing you to clsoe the distance where your husband was writhing on the floor.
“This is what I want. We’re gonna beat the shit out of you, like you deserve. And then we’re gonna take your wife…you’re never gonna see her again. And as soon as that little brat of yours is born…they’re gonna be a real thief; my progeny. That’s your penance, for destroying the world we worked so hard to build. You spilled our blood…so I’m taking yours.”
Gaius reached his hand out, inches from where you struggled against your captor’s hold. This wasn’t happening. This was a nightnare. He couldn’t lose everything.
“N-no…please…” He gasped, fire burning his lungs with every attempt.
Instead, he got another boot to his stomach. Blood sprayed from his mouth. You sobbed.
“Stop it- stop it, damn you!! H-he can’t fight back!”
“No, he can’t. Looks like little Sticky-Finges Gaius has become a pathetic little creature. And now he gets to watch as we rip his entire reason for living right out of his hands.” The bastard sneered, a sick grin spread wide across his face. “Enjoy this moment, boy. It’s the last time you’ll ever see her face again. Though if you grovel…I might reconsider.”
“Huh…” Gaius’ hand touched the man’s boot, “I d-don’t think so.”
Suddenly, you were released, the man’s body contorting with pain. He fell to the floor, writhing and crying out. Gaius grabbed your wrist, pulling you to his side. He struggled to his knees, holding you to him.
“G-Gaius!” You felt him loosen the bindings, before the rumble came overhead. The ceiling shook, debris falling onto you both. “Gaius what did you do?”
“Poison charms. One of the many…many advantages of the assassin class. Though…I only have a few of those.” He managed, “He’ll be fine in an hour or so…but for now, he can suffer for wat he did…to you.”
“What’s going on upstairs?” You pulled the ropes off, before taking him in your arms, drawing Gaius to your chest. “Is that the Shepherds?”
“I’d a-assume so…they probably aren’t happy that I came for you without them.”
“You did what??” You gasped, cupping his face to draw his hazy gaze to yours. “Y-you got beaten half to death and they didn’t know you came after me? W-what were you thinking?!”
“I needed…to make sure you…were safe.” He grunted, trying to swallow down the pain reverberating through every bone in his body. His hand fell to your middle, the smallest swell of a baby bump skimmed by shaking fingers. “I wasn’t gonna w-wait around while you were stuck here. If they hurt you…”
“I know. You stupid man.” You shook your head, pressing a kiss to his forehead and hugging him tight. “Let’s try to stop the bleeding while we wait for the others…I don’t doubt they’ll be here soon. And, um…thank you. I can’t imagine what you were going through when you figured out what happened.”
“Don’t worry about it…I wasn’t gonna stop for a second. Not even Blue could’ve kept me from g-getting you two home.”
“You’re a valiant man.” You murmured, squeezing him close. “Now stop talking so much. You’re gonna exacerbate the internal bleeding.”
Gaius nodded, relinquishing control to his dear wife. You did have a good point; the sensations he was feeling weren’t particularly pleasant.
He was able to stay conscious long enough to see Maribelle and Vaike come careening into the holding space, and could hear incoherent scolding when more Shepherds showed up.
When he came to, he found himself in a cot, tucked away in Southtown’s clinic. He would turn on his side to find everything still hurt, and he was tied up in bandages from head to toe…but that his wife was curled up beside him, sleeping soundly with his hand held to your chest.
Gaius accidentally woke you up by throwing his arms around you and hugging you as tightly as he possibly could, and of course peppering you with a thousand kisses that you couldn’t have escaped from if you tried.
You were safe. The baby was healthy, and both spouses would be assigned a long, gentle recovery period until you could return to work.
With plans in place to make sure that should Gaius ever have to leave your side again (which he would make absolutely sure happened as little as possible), he would be easily accessible and could hurry back to you.
The nightmare was over. Mercifully, he was able to bring his family back home. A fear he would spend the rest of his life ensuring would never happen again.

While Tim was setting up the final touches to rig Ra's base to blow, he finds someone that could be his carbon copy in the dungeons. The guy is unconscious, chained to the wall with multiple chains, and branded.
Tim, obviously, grabs Pru for a last minute extraction and gets the prisoner the hell out of there.
He knows this isn't a clone, because the earlobes are different, as is the brow shape and hair thickness. This is just...someone that apparently looked enough like Tim that Ra's, unconfirmed but APPARENTLY, decided to use to take out his aggression. Probably whenever Tim didn't listen.
They get the doppleganger out, get him treated, and he still isn't waking up. Tim takes him back to Gotham. The dude doesn't wake up. Gets him secured in the Bunker with Alfred. Alfred reports that the under-fed teen isn't waking up.
They get Bruce back.
Bruce goes to take a look at the ex-prisoner once he's recovered. Bruce gets Zatanna.
Zatanna tells them that the brand is acting as a seal, and the only way to get the kid to wake up is to disrupt the seal. But warns them that said seal only works on Beings from the Realm between Realms, and that to unleash one that had been abused would surely lead to the destruction of their own.
Tim calls bullshit.
Or; Danny was tricked and trapped by Ra's, who was siphoning blood out of him to add to the Pits and increase their efficacy. Tim finds Danny, misreads the situation, and rescues him. Now, even though Danny would probably just roll over and go back to sleep, JLD is telling the Bats that if they break the seal then he'll destroy the world. Tim disagrees.

Final hour Ghostlights request! Soulmate AU where when your soul mate dies your soul mark expands. Duke was really heartbroken at first but now his soul mark makes it really difficult to keep his secret identity hidden because he is covered in a map of the cosmos. He has to use his shadow powers almost constantly to keep all the stars hidden! And and maybe they light up like actual stars when he uses his light powers.
He meets Danny at orientation or something at GU and they brush against each other and he just lights up like a supernova, all his stars literally blazing and he's just like "YOU!" Both excited and also OH MY GOD YOU ASSHOLE.
....I rambled a bit here I'm so sorry.
The thing about soulmates is that you don’t really know who they are until they die. And even then, most people never know who their soulmate was, only that they outlived them.
Duke became one of those people when he was thirteen.
He didn’t even notice until he went to change and saw the watercolor swirl of nebula spill out from over his heart.
One moment, he was tired and angry, ready to sneak out of his latest foster home to search for his parents and do all the things adults have failed to do. The next, he’s collapsed on his knees, shaking, unable to breathe as he tries to rip his soulmark off of his skin. He couldn’t think past the shock and horror of realizing that his soulmate is dead and Duke didn’t even know until that moment.
They’ll never get to meet.
Duke had never felt so alone before.
He spent the next few days in shock, his mind a mess of static, unable to focus. He hid away in his room, buried under the covers, and his foster parents were understanding when he whispered my soulmate’s dead. They called him out of school and brought him food and water throughout the day, gentle encouraging him to eat something every few hours.
But disaster waits for no one, and Batman was gone, so Duke pulled himself out of his misery and hit the streets again.
So his soulmate’s dead. So his parents are gone. So Gotham’s falling apart.
No one’s doing anything about it, so it’s up to Duke to start fixing things. It’s not like he had much to lose.
Soulmates become a bit of a taboo topic to him, after that. He speaks of them to no one, avoids all conversation about them, refuses to stay when people talk about soulmarks. He tries not to look at his soulmark at all.
And then he takes a hit to the chest and patches himself up with shaking hands. For the first time in months he looks at his soulmark again and…
Did it… grow?
Duke prods it gently, letting out a hiss when his bruised ribs protest at the movement. He remembers the mark being right over his heart.
But looking at it now, it branches out, swirls of galaxy and constellations reaching out along his ribcage.
Panicked, Duke grabs for his computer and looks up soulmark growth and webmd soulmark abnormalities.
Neither give him any answers, though WebMD helpfully suggests skin cancer.
“I’m gonna ignore this,” Duke decides, and pulls on a shirt and goes to sleep. The less he thinks about his dead soulmate, the better.
Time passes and Duke goes from being a Robin to being the Signal, a legitimate vigilante working with Batman. It’s nice to see Gotham start to settle, things falling into place. For once, nothing is awful; Duke’s found his parents and doctors are looking for a cure for long-term exposure to Joker Gas, Batman’s taking care of Gotham with a number of other Bats, Duke is getting used to his powers and slowly making a good name for himself out on the streets.
He keeps his focus on protecting people and getting stronger, helping solve cases with the other Bats. No one mentions soulmates, so he keeps his ever expanding soulmark a secret.
The only problem is that it keeps growing and Duke is concerned that it’ll move to a place he can’t easily hide under his clothes.
And he does need to hide them. The more his soulmark has grown, the more obvious it is, especially when he uses his powers and the stars on his skin light up like the Fourth of July. He knows it’s abnormal, but it’s also his soulmark and he doesn’t want anyone, least of all Bruce, poking around trying to study it.
The grief still lingers when he looks at it, but Duke has long since grown used to it. If anything, these days he’s quietly annoyed by how far the galaxies on his skin spread out, forcing him to take tank tops and shorts out of his wardrobe.
There’s also the tentative hope that maybe his soulmate is immortal and keeps coming back to life after they die. And they must also have terrible luck, because they just keep on dying.
Case in point: his soulmark flares and spills out onto his shoulder and wraps around his bicep. It’s not the first time he’s seen it move, but it still startles him.
“Are you serious,” Duke mutters to himself, pulling at his sleeve to adjust it and hopefully hide his soulmark. The starts are bright against his skin, and while sometimes he likes to trace them with his finger, now is not one of those times.
As pretty as it is, his soulmark is also very obvious and will cause people to realize his identity if they ever catch a glimpse of it while he’s out as Signal.
He sighs. There’s no choice but to live out the rest of his life in hoodies and sweatshirts.
As if to spite him, his soulmark grows once more.
Did his soulmate just die twice in the span of five minutes? That’s concerning.
He wishes he could meet them just so he can shake some sense into them. Maybe tell them to stop dying since it’s stressing him out so much. Maybe stick by their side to make sure they never have to die again. He’s honestly not sure what he’d do if he ever meets his soulmate, but he has to do something. This has gotten out of hand.
At least seeing his soulmark grow doesn’t hurt as much as it did a few years ago.
Lazily, he pulls at the light around him to hide the new portions of the soulmark on his arm from sight. It takes some focus, but he can hold it up long enough for him to grab a snack from the kitchen and retreat up to his room without being questioned by anyone. He could probably even keep this shirt on for the college orientation he needs to attend later in the day if the light works well enough to keep his secrets hidden.
He’s expecting Alfred in the kitchen when he arrives, but is greeted by Dick clapping a hand on his shoulder, right where his soulmark has claimed space. Duke falters and works to keep the light from fracturing as he returns Dick’s grin.
“Hey man,” he says, “What are you doing here? I thought you were out until Friday.”
“And miss a chance to hang out with you? No way. Besides, I wanted to give you a ride to your orientation.”
“You don’t have to,” Duke starts, only for Dick to cut him off.
“I’m going to,” he says, as if it’s a threat. “It’s been too long since we get to spend time together without a mask on. Are you really going to deprive me of this?”
Duke shakes off Dick’s hand from his shoulder, walking towards the pantry to find a small snack. “I guess not. It’s going to be pretty boring for you, though. I’m just going to listen to people talk about what college is like for a few hours.”
“We could always just walk around campus afterwards. I haven’t seen it since it was rebuilt after the last time Freeze attacked it.”
“Sure, that sounds fun. Thanks for offering to drive me.” Duke pulls out a box of Poptarts hidden behind stacks of pasta boxes and pulls out a pack for himself. He opens it and isn’t at all surprised when Dick steals one right out of his hands.
“Meet me out front in an hour then.”
And with that, Dick leaves, his stolen Poptart in hand, and Duke is left to shake his head and shove the Poptart box back into its hiding place. He heads off to eat his own snack, making sure no one is in the hallway as he lets go of his hold on the light. Already he can feel a migraine building with the immense focus he had to use to make sure nothing looked out of place.
At least Dick didn’t notice anything was off. If he can fool Dick, he can fool anyone.
Still, just to be safe, Duke changes into something with longer sleeves before he leaves and hops into the car with Dick.
The drive goes quickly to the tunes of ABBA, both of them singing along as they head for the GCU campus. Parking is a bit tricky, but they manage to find a spot a street away and walk towards the student union, where tables are laid out for incoming freshmen to sign in and grab a folder filled with papers meant to help them.
He waves to Dick and heads in once he gets his folder, and grabs a seat in the auditorium that’s close to a fire exit.
It takes another twenty minutes for the presentations to start. The lights dim and Duke panics for a brief moment before drawing the shadows over himself lightly to hide the soft glow of the star etched onto his skin.
They start with introductions, bringing in advisors, professors, and student ambassadors. Most of it is basic information that Duke already knows, so he zones out and plays with some shadows at his feet, where no one can see the way he twists shadows together like some dark magic form of finger knitting.
For the next hour, Duke halfheartedly listens to people talk about preparing for classes and keeping on top of schoolwork and learning how to ask for help. He’s saved enough college students that he knows the gist of things, and the orientation really doesn’t give him anything helpful.
He probably could have skipped, but he wanted a normal college experience.
He should have known that normal means boring as hell.
As soon as the presentation ends, an advisor encourages everyone to follow the schedule tucked into their folder to give them a half day modeled after a typical student’s schedule. Of course, all the classes are nonsense just to fill up their time, made to help freshmen coming into the college by covering topics such as how to write an email and an introduction to majors and minors.
Duke already declared himself as a Human Services major, his first step into becoming a social worker like his mom was.
Also he totally knows how to write an email, what are these advisors on about? Do they really think people his age can’t write emails?
Yeah, he’s ditching. The main presentation is really the only part that matters in the orientation. He’s not walking out on anything he needs.
Duke files out after the rest of the crowd, carefully letting the shadows slip off of him once he’s outside again. Instead of finding the first ‘class’ he’s supposed to go to in the Modern Languages building, he wanders off to find a quiet place he can sit down and wait until Dick finds him.
Tucked away towards the back half of the campus is a small nook full of trees, bushes, and benches. Judging by the amount of cigarette butts left in the single trash can there, it’s a popular smoking spot.
No one’s there, so the air is clean and free of smoke, so Duke heads in, hoping to sit down.
Someone else apparently has the same idea. He hops down from one of the concrete planters that’s keeping a bush contained and nearly falls on Duke.
They both shout in surprise, then Duke is moving without thinking, reaching out to steady the startled looking guy who accidentally jumped down in front of him.
Duke only has time to take note of how blue his eyes are before his hands wrap around the guy’s wrist and Duke feels his soulmark flare with warmth.
In the shade of the trees, the glow of each star on his skin is obvious. It’s visible even through the fabric of his shirt. His soulmark, at this point in his life, stretches across his chest, his ribs, his back, and now his shoulders and upper arms. All the stars in that watercolor galaxy are shining brightly as if the night sky has been draped across his body.
Soulmarks only react like that for one reason.
“You!” Duke shouts at his soulmate, both elated to see that he’s alive and annoyed that he made Duke’s soulmark so large. “Stop dying! Do you have any idea how much stress you’ve caused me?!”
“Oh my god,” the guy says faintly, eyes fixed on Duke’s chest where his soulmark originally rested, shining brighter and bigger than any other star, as if he’s tucked a sun into his heart. “Oh my god,” he says again, with more feeling.
“I’m so happy you’re alive, but please stop dying. It’s bad for my health.”
“I think I need to sit down?”
He does look very pale and faint. Duke tightens his grip on his soulmate’s arms and guides him to a bench, gently sitting him down.
“You’re not about to die, right?” Duke asks. “I don’t think my heart could take it if meeting me killed you somehow.”
“No, no,” his soulmate manages to say, “I’m not going to die. Um. Wow. I didn’t know my soulmark would do that? Sorry.”
“Well, it’s not like you had any way of knowing. It’s all good, man. Just please stop dying.”
His soulmate winces. “Yeah, that’s not gonna be possible. Sorry. Again.”
What does that mean, though? What does it all mean?
“Can I maybe get an explanation as to why you have to die again.”
“Mmmmm no. We just met and it’s kinda personal so. No.”
“Dude.”
Duke’s soulmate shrugs helplessly. “It really is personal! I know your my soulmate and all, so I’ll probably tell you one day, but right now I don’t even know your name.”
Oh shit. He’s right. Introductions completely slipped his mind, too busy reeling over the fact that his soulmate is here and alive. Which, honestly, would be enough to throw anyone off balance.
“Shoot,” Duke says. “Sorry. You just really caught me off guard. Hi, I’m Duke, I promise I’m more put together than that.”
“Hi Duke, I’m Danny, and I’ve apparently been traumatizing you for the past few years by making you think I keep dying.”
“Well. At least we’re thrown head first into the crazy. Best way to know if we’re be a good match.”
“You sure you can handle this? You seemed pretty frazzled a second ago.”
Duke flusters and lightly whacks Danny’s shoulder. “That’s normal! Anyone would do the same when meeting their soulmate for the first time!”
“Fair enough,” Danny laughs. “This is a totally weird request and you can absolutely say no, but… can I see?” He presses a hand against one of the glowing stars beneath this collar bone, looking up at Duke with wide, hopeful blue eyes, and Duke finds it so cute that he’s willing to do anything Danny wants.
“Here,” he says as an answer, pulling the collar of his shirt down a bit to reveal the nebula spilling onto his shoulder.
“Oh,” Danny breathes, tracing a light finger against it. “It’s beautiful.”
“I’m guessing you like space?”
“Love it. I wanted to be an astronaut, but uh…. It’s never going to happen. Health problems, you know?”
“Well, I know it’s not the same, but I hope the stars you put on my body will be a good enough replacement.”
Danny cheeks turn red and he turns away, flustered. “Don’t smooth talk me right now, I’m not ready for it,” he mutters, bringing up a hand to try to hide his expression.
“Sorry, sorry,” Duke laughs, “I’ll try to keep the flirting down to a minimum. It’s just really great to finally meet you. And I’ve been wondering, what’s your soulmark look like?”
“Oh, well…” Danny fiddles with the long sleeve of his shirt. “I had a pretty bad accident years ago that kinda affected how my soulmark looks. So if it looks weird, that’s why, okay?” He takes a deep breath, then pushes up his sleeve, holding his wrist out to Duke.
The first thing Duke notices is the soft yellow glow, Signal yellow to be precise, running down his arm as if sunlight fills his veins. Then he sees Danny’s soulmark, a sun with rays that wrap around his wrist. And running through his soulmark are Lichtenberg scars, glowing yellow as if stealing the color from his soulmark.
“Guess we both got super obvious soulmarks, huh? At least we kinda match, that way.”
“That’s one way to look at it,” Danny agrees.
“Man, what a day.”
Danny looks more relaxed with him now. It’s much better than the startled, tense version of him that first sat down on the bench. Duke hopes he chooses to stay with him; he doesn’t admit this often, willingly, or to other people, but he’s a romantic at heart and has always wanted to live a happy life with his soulmate. It’s still far off in the future, but he hopes Danny feels the same way.
“So, are you ditching the orientation classes to?” Danny asks.
“Yeah, there’s no way I’m going. I mean, a class on how to send emails? They can’t be serious.”
“I know, right?! I saw that and thought I was being pranked. I mean, we’re going into college. We better know how to send an email by now.”
“Since we’re both free for now, wanna grab lunch with me? It can be our first date, if you want.”
“I’d love to! And you can show me around Gotham a bit. I’m coming here for college, but I haven’t really seen the city yet. It’d be nice to explore it with someone who knows where things are.”
“Are you free for the rest of the day? ‘Cause I wouldn’t mind showing you around, if you want.”
Danny smiles, radiant. “I am. I’m in your hands for the rest of the day.”
“Cool,” Duke says, trying not to think too much on that wording. It’s very suggestive, very flirtatious, and he’s looking forward to getting to know Danny more so he can start properly flirting. “Lemme just let my brother know to not wait up for me.”
He pulls out his phone and sends Dick a text that just reads: met my soulmate. going on a date now. i’ll see u back at the manor!
Then he puts his phone on silent and tucks it back into his pocket. He’ll tell Dick all about this later; for now, all his attention is on Danny.
Soulmates get priority, even stressful ones that give him the largest soulmark he’s ever seen.
And right now, he’s on a mission to find the best lunch spot to take his soulmate to for their first date. Everything else can come later; for now, he’s going to enjoy the time he gets to spend with Danny.
He hopes they’ve got a future together as bright as the stars in his soulmark.
Despite it all, Duke is sure they’re going to be alright.

Over the years Tim had lead, taught and helped countless other teens come into thier powers and said teens looked at him like he hung the stars. They admired him greatly and wanted to do something to make thier mentor/big brother figure proud.
So when they found Tims soulmate they were absolutely ecstatic.
Yeah sure, the guy was the child of evil mad scientists and apparently the heir of a creepy fake vampire supervillian but they'd seen weirder couples in the hero community. They just needed to convince him to join the heros side!
Naturally they try to kidnap Danny and he has no idea whats going on other than a bunch of kids in superhero costumes are trying to abduct him. Between his powers as Phantom, that they seem to not know about (thank the ancients that ghosts don't show up well of pictures and that he started wearing a mask) and his own parents paranoid housebuilding techniques Danny escapes them easily.
Danny figured they would leave him alone eventually, right? If not he would have to call the cops for stalking and harassment.
If that didn't work he would just set all the house lazers to stun. Worst case scenario he might have to call the Justice League emergency line and yell at them to come get thier kids.
It would also be funny if he just kicked them out as Phantom

Dc x dp idea 113
Danny was falsely arrested. How dare the store. He may look homeless being on the run from his parents and all.
But really.
All he did was stuff the item in his pocket so he could help someone grab an item.
They didn’t even give him the chance to explain. He had the money. Sam insisted on giving him cash before he ran.
When they took his fingerprints he really didn’t mind. He was running from his parents not the government. As soon as he was left alone he’d high tail it out of Gotham.
To bad he wouldn’t be left alone. Being Bruce Wayne’s kidnapped son was not on his bingo card.
Now Bruce Wayne billionaire had never expected to have his son be found. Never for him to be found stealing food and obviously homeless.
