Review first season "Vigil"

Ep 3. An episode about loneliness and loss.

Although the series is shown from Amy's point of view, but in this episode, each character experiences his own trauma and deals with it in their own way. (An episode about each of us.) The pressure on Amy is starting to build up. The first attempt to find the killer came to a dead end. Amy's time on the submarine has been extended from 3 days to 3 weeks, and her pills have run out. And she let Poppy down again by promising what she couldn't deliver. After all, it was then that she realized that she would not have the opportunity to wish Poppy a happy birthday. Who rewarded her with such boundless responsibility and a sense of guilt not even for her mistakes? These downward steps, which she has taken more than once in the past, will reach a deep end and a state of revelation on her part at the end of the episode.

And then the present comes and passes familygram ❤️from Kirsten. A pleasant little thing again)

This familygram is more personal than all the others. Was Amy a little happy that the radio operator who delivered the telegram only confirmed that Amy knew about Kirsten's attitude towards her, but was afraid to admit? It is likely that Amy does not specifically reminisce about Kirsten, not understanding and doubting where they are in the present. Is this her approach in a relationship, or does she not want to hurt herself even more?

This is also one of the few times when Amy smiles sincerely. Kirsten hides behind a wish from a cat to emphasize, but not to attract the attention of other people, highlighting only three words for herself. "So do I". It's about work, but for me it's also a part of Kirsten.

Looking at this scene, I have several questions: Who are all these people except Amy and Poppy? Why are Ian's parents not at the funeral? Is Poppy being picked up by a close family friend or a social worker?(They can't be Ian's relatives, because if they were, Poppy would have stayed with them) Is there no one on Amy's side who could support her? Are they even alive or is she alone?

It's great to know that, after several previous attempts, these two have started to build a good relationship in Amy's absence)

In addition, we see a lot of photographs in many scenes that decorate Amy's home. Who enjoys taking pictures, storing them on their phone, and then printing them out? Amy has many skills besides saving her own phone password from Poppy.

"It's unfair." Say this phrase to a detective who must uncover the truth and restore justice, who works so hard that he becomes a DCI, who has tools and assistants at his disposal, who solves cases after case, but who due to chance loses his future. We don't know why Amy left medical school after the second year, which is very difficult to enter, but maybe she was searching for justice? Amy saves and gives a chance not only to Harry, but also to herself. If you put a mirror in front of Amy, the main core of the scene wouldn't change. She admits something to herself that she couldn't even tell the therapist or Kirsten.

Since Kirsten sent such a familygram, there was more than just one moment associated with this book. Most likely, there were also many other books, because Amy couldn't immediately understand the message. Amy is probably used to seeing Kirsten awake in the early morning and therefore does not ask her anything, but simply raises Kirsten's hand in a familiar, confident gesture to hug her and be closer.

P.S. It couldn't have been another animal, could it?)

Who remembers the story of Jonah? The prophet who was swallowed by a whale for three days so that he would become what he was destined to become.

The Redbridge Hunts, Chapter 12

Little bat eyes watched Claire curiously from outside her bedroom window, she was completely oblivious as she went about her morning routine in her night gown before getting dressed. Being on one of the upper floors she never bothered closing her curtains in the dark, as she thought no one could see in anyway.

Claire took her time straightening her hair for the day, then putting on a little bit of make-up before getting dressed. She felt a little worried about Loki, and how today would go. She knew it would likely be a difficult day after what happened.

She was just about to take off her night gown to get dressed, when she heard scratching and scraping against her window. With a frown, she made her way over to see what the noise was. Her eyes widened when she saw two bats having a scuffle on the window-ledge.

‘Hey! Break it up you two, what’s going on?’ She yelled at them through the window and tapped on the glass, which startled the bats and stopped them from fighting.

The two bats flew away into the dawn.

‘That was… odd.’ Claire muttered to herself, but she shrugged it off and continued getting ready.

The two bats flew around the side of the building, where Loki turned back into his vampire form.

‘What the hell was that about?’ He snapped, turning to face the other vampire.

‘What do you mean what the hell was that about? I should be asking you that! You’re going to blow your cover if you spy on her as a bat, plus not to mention it’s morally wrong.’ Jessica argued, arms folded over her chest.

‘I wasn’t spying.’ Loki huffed.

Jessica raised an eyebrow at him and just gave him the look.

‘Well… I was only checking she was ok. I wanted to be around her, to calm my nerves a bit.’ Loki admitted sheepishly.

Jessica’s face softened. She knew it must be difficult for him, desperate to be with his soulmate but having to control his temptations and keep a distance.

‘Why does your nerves need to be calmed?’ She asked with a frown.

Loki sighed and ran a hand down his face. ‘One of our students, Stevie, was killed by a hunter at the weekend. Kirsten was saved, luckily, but had to witness her brother being murdered. All thanks to Chris, who they thought they could trust.’

Jessica’s eyes widened. ‘Oh god.’ She gasped and put her hand over her mouth. ‘He was in my class this year.’ She said with a lump in her throat.

‘I know.’ Loki said sadly. ‘I had a fight with Chris last night, then ended up here, finding comfort in Claire. She thinks it was a drug deal gone wrong, which is what the public will hear. We’re going to need to help our students through this, today is going to be difficult.’

‘Hence why you came to see Claire?’

Loki nodded.

Jessica sighed. ‘Well, if there’s anything I can do today just let me know. I guess we might be better holding an assembly to tell everyone?’

‘I think just in registration class might be best. I’ll speak to the other teachers when I get there.’ Loki said decisively.

‘Whatever you think best.’ Jessica agreed. ‘Well, I better get going… Try not to perv on Claire too much though, as a fellow woman it’s concerning, even if you are her soulmate.’ She smirked a little.

Loki blushed a tiny bit. ‘I’ll try not to.’

Tensions were high when school started, many pupils had already heard the news. Some of the vampire students knew the truth about who killed Stevie, but of course the humans thought it was drug related.

‘Do you think Chris will show his face today?’ David asked.

Loki had been filling in the other vampire teachers about what happened.

‘I don’t know. If he does, maybe all of us can finally finish him.’ Loki snarled, his hands balled into fists.

‘I’m sure he didn’t mean to send Stevie directly to his death like that…’ Hannibal said cautiously, yet calmly.

Loki glared at him. ‘Of course he did. He’s reckless, all he cares about are his old stupid traditional ways and ending the human race. Thinks they all need to evolve to what we are, that humans should be wiped out.’

Severus sniggered from the side, causing everyone to turn their attention to him.

‘Something amusing you, Severus?’ Loki asked, hands on his hips as he narrowed his eyes at him.

‘Various things. Chris thinking that he can play God. Plus, you thinking that we would be able to, finish him, even as a team. You should know better than any of us that he would still be too strong. It’s not like he physically made the twins go hunt, like many of the other young vampires coming of age, their hormones are raging. Of course, they are going to want to hunt, let loose with their primal instincts. All we can do is try and get to them first, show them there are better ways and teach them. Protect them as best we can from any hunters.’

Loki hated the fact that he was right, he knew Chris would be impossible to stop physically. He also had a point in that Chris didn’t force them to go hunting, though he did highly influence them which still enraged Loki to think about.

‘Yes, I’d say protecting the younger vampires from hunters is our main priority.’ Matt said softly.

The door to the teacher’s lounge opened and in walked Chris, the room instantly thickened with tension that could be cut with a knife. Loki attempted to lunge at him, but Severus grabbed Loki’s arm to stop him, much to Loki’s annoyance.

‘You’ve got some nerve to show your face here.’ Loki snarled at him.

‘Look, I know you think this is all my fault, and yes, perhaps I did talk them into hunting the traditional way, but I wouldn’t send a vampire to their death knowingly. You know deep down that I wouldn’t. I want the vampire race to thrive, to overcome the humans, that can’t happen if hunters keep taking us out.’ Chris said with a neutral look on his face. He wasn’t smirking, when he almost always had one plastered on his face, so the vampires were all slightly thrown off guard.

‘You’re the headmaster, the kids trust you. Stevie trusted you. You know it’s not safe, talking them into hunting like that is a death sentence in itself.’ Loki snarled at him.

‘It’s a risk that we take, and every vampire knows it.’ Chris said calmly.

Loki tried getting near him again, but Severus tightened his hold on his arm. ‘Do not let him wind you up.’ Severus muttered slowly.

Loki knew Severus was right, again, it wouldn’t do any good.

‘I’m going to call for an assembly, to explain to the students what happened to Stevie.’ Chris announced.

‘No. You’re not.’ Loki said firmly. ‘The students will be told in their register classes, so if they are upset or emotional, they will feel safer in smaller groups. Where they can ask any questions they like from the teachers. The vampires can get the truth, while the humans are shielded from it.’

All the morning register classes were split so that vampires and humans were not mixed, which meant that the vampires could get any updates that were necessary to them only.

Chris said nothing for a moment, just eyed up Loki. Then he responded with a simple nod before ducking out of the room.

‘What the bloody hell just happened?’ David asked as he looked around everyone.

‘He’s at it. Putting on a front.’ Loki growled.

‘Or maybe he feels a little bit guilty and that’s his way of trying to show it?’ Jessica tried, but from the glare that Loki gave her she knew he didn’t agree one bit.

‘He is the headmaster, he still has a duty of care for all the students, I’m sure he does feel guilty about it to some extent.’ Hannibal shrugged.

‘No. He doesn’t feel guilty, that’s not in his nature.’ Loki argued.

‘He’s not wrong though, think about it, if he wants the vampires to take over why would he send them directly to their death? I don’t think he did it on purpose, but I also don’t think he cares for them in the way he should, he cares more about his tradition and is willing to take risks for it. And every vampire does know the risk, even the younger ones, it’s taught as soon as they are old enough to understand that there’s hunters out there.’ Severus said as he sat back down.

Loki pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. ‘I’m away to speak to all the teachers, tell them what’s happened and what to tell the students. You all know what to tell your register students.’

Everyone nodded as Loki made his way out of the lounge. He could feel the anguish in the air as he walked down the corridor of the school, students were talking in hushed voices while others were very quiet and sad.

When he walked into his classroom, he was surprised to see Claire there already. Her scent instantly flooded him and he felt a wave of calmness wash over him, as if she was swimming through his veins.

‘Claire.’

‘Hey, Loki. Are you ok?’ She asked softly as she approached him, she had a bunch of sticky notes in her hands, she was placing small piles onto every desk.

‘I… think so. What’s this?’

‘Oh, I hope you don’t mind. I thought that perhaps the students could write down any questions or feelings, then place them into this box.’ She motioned to a box on his desk. ‘Then we could read them out and answer questions or speak about their feelings. So, it’s anonymous for the student, but a safe sort of way to speak about what happened.’

‘That’s… a brilliant idea.’ Loki’s face lit up. ‘I was worried that most of the students would hide their feelings and questions, they are at that age where they don’t like speaking about feelings much. Doing it this way is perfect.’

‘Glad you think so. I didn’t want to over step the line or anything, so please just tell me if I do anything wrong.’ Claire said quickly.

‘Not at all. You’re a kind hearted soul, Claire. I couldn’t think of anyone else I’d rather have working by my side, any ideas at all feel free to go ahead with them. I trust you.’ Loki said as he reached out and squeezed her shoulder.

Claire felt really warm and fuzzy inside.

‘Thank you, Loki.’ She smiled up at him.

Loki had to resist the urge to swoop her into his arms, it was made easier when students began entering the class. He stepped back from Claire, distancing himself a bit. Claire cleared her throat and continued handing out sticky notes to everyone.

The day wasn’t quite as bad as Loki had thought it was going to be. Claire’s idea of the anonymous notes was a big hit, everyone had a question or feeling to write down, some even had multiple they put into the box. There wasn’t much in the way of history taught that day, but it had been expected.

‘I don’t know about you, but I could really do with going for a drink before going home… Would you like to join me?’ Loki asked Claire when the last student left the room.

‘It’s like you've read my mind.’ She smiled at him.

After packing up, they both made their way to the local pub, the same one that they’d gone to with the other teacher’s before. It was a little quieter than the previous time, which was fine by them as they were needing to unwind a little.

As well as getting drinks, they ordered some food to share.

‘You’re being stalked by bats? Seriously?’ Loki chuckled as they sat down and got comfortable at a small table in the back corner.

‘Yep, I’m telling you, there was two of them squabbling on my window-ledge this morning, it was very odd. They’re either stalking me or I’m some kind of bat-woman.’ She laughed.

‘So, if you come in tomorrow with a colony of bats following you, I won’t be surprised.’ He grinned.

‘Maybe I could train them, get them to do my evil biddings.’ Claire teased.

‘Evil biddings? I doubt you have an evil bone in your body, darling.’ Loki smirked.

‘I’m sure there’s one somewhere.’ She laughed.

A waiter came over with their food and they both tucked in straight away, Loki realised how hungry he actually was.

‘I’ve not eaten much at all today. This is far too good.’ Loki groaned as he stuffed a chicken wing down his throat.

‘At least today is over, hopefully it will get easier now.’ Claire said softly.

‘Fingers crossed.’ Loki agreed.

‘Did you see Chris today?’ Claire asked.

‘Yes. He showed his face in the morning.’ Loki said gruffly.

‘Ah… Did he seem to take any responsibility?’

‘He tried to reason his actions, but I know he’s only trying to keep his façade up on front of the other teachers.’

‘Well, at least the students have you looking out for them. I’d have given anything to have a teacher as caring as you when I was at school. Half the teachers I had didn’t even care about bullying going on.’ Claire said with a smile, making Loki smile too.

‘The others are pretty good teacher’s too, aside from Chris, it is a good school.’ He admitted.

‘I just don’t understand why the police haven’t been able to catch the person who did it, surely Kirsten would be able to give a description, if not a name, for the drug dealer who killed Stevie?’ Claire asked, it had been bugging her all day.

‘Honestly, our police force is a bit… useless, to put it kindly. I’m not sure if Kirsten has been able to give a description or not, she was pretty traumatised.’

‘I guess so.’ Claire hummed.

Hey, Curator. I wanted to do this by ask instead of by comment on AO3, because I have *so* much respect for your work on Autobigraphy of Kirsten Clancy. Your creation of Martian culture? Exquisite. Your depiction of a healthy relationship between two peers striving to be part of the same organization they love and also raise a family? Fantastic. Your depiction of grief and trauma? Amazing. So since my question feels a bit critical, I wanted to emphasize that I'm not trying to start an argument or score points - I genuinely, privately want to know.

I could say nice things about the story all day. But one thing in it that I felt disappointed by was the decision not to just challenge the moral attitude of Picard and the Romulan relocation effort, but to actively change the facts of it. I think the question of whether the Federation should be allowed to break up over saying a billion lives or more is a serious one, and one that deserved the argument between Picard and Clancy. Having a narrative that says "Well, nobody really died because the Romulans evacuated them using their own resources" seems to really gut the whole moral concept of the argument - as if to say Clancy can't win it on those terms so we have to change the facts, when frankly I think she *can* win it.

Do you mind me asking what your thoughts were behind making that change? Is it supposed to be the product of unreliable narration on Clancy's part, or are you describing a different universe?

I welcome questions (I feel like it’s an author’s dream to be asked why they made writerly choices), though I must admit I was confused at first by yours. The narrative in that story is 100% in our universe with those millions of Romulan deaths happening. Clancy’s argument with Picard following the destruction of Mars and Utopia Planitia — and her view that the Federation can save either itself or the Romulans, and the Romulans should have the resources to save themselves — is meant to be in light of readers knowing that Clancy won the argument at the cost of the future of the Romulan relocation effort since the Romulans did not turn out to have (or use?) the resources to save themselves.

I went back to the story to try to figure out what could have given you the impression that the Romulans didn’t die. Because you’re exactly right that Clancy is an unreliable narrator. She doesn’t lie whole cloth, though, and she’s painfully aware that most of her life is documented via official records and logs. I wonder, was it Clancy’s press conference following Picard’s TV appearance that suggested the Romulans didn’t die? Because the journalist’s question, “What is your response to Picard’s critique of Starfleet’s decision to cancel the Romulan rescue?” is a fair one. And Clancy’s answer, “Starfleet is proud to have successfully handed off the Romulan evacuation to the Romulan government, which ensured the safety of its people,” is truthful, yet glosses over what “its people” means. Not all people. Not most people. And what about that handoff would have been proud in any way? I attempted to show the unreliable nature of Clancy’s glib, soundbite-oriented, political theater press conference answers by immediately having Clancy reflect on her training for press conferences from both Admiral Brand and her mother. Clancy, per her explaination of that training, focuses her press conference answers on what she views as “relevant information” while knowingly avoiding mention of deeper, uncomfortable truths — including what she perceives as Picard’s erratic behavior and his need for a brain scan (begging the question: Does Clancy know about Picard’s Irumodic Syndrome diagnosis or are her instincts that good?). Clancy correctly believes that the Romulan government took over the relocation. She possibly incorrectly believes that Starfleet therefore has no responsibility for the relocation’s failures. So she doesn’t mention them.

I hope all this makes clear that I wholeheartedly agree with you, @ruckafangirl: the moral concept of Clancy’s showdown with Picard requires those Romulans to die. And they most definitely do.

Note because of the times we live in: The Romulans die due to canon consistency. Their deaths are not a statement on my personal beliefs, their deaths are a fact of the Trek universe.

The Golden Deer:

You could technically submit any of the three houses and have them fit but I feel like none of them quite embody the spirit of found family like the Golden Deer. Other than being from the same place, there's nothing that inherently connects them to each other. There are a lot of barriers between them, class, upbringing, trauma. But despite all that they manage to come together in their own messy way. Their route is all about the importance of unity and coming together despite any differences that might exist and they show the strength that comes from embracing diversity.

Mikazuki Villa:

Mikazuki Villa is a boarding house owned by Yachiyo, and previously Yachiyo's grandmother. Yachiyo is a magical girl veteran of 7 years. Over those years, there had always been a group of magical girls staying at the house, whether it be just hanging out or living there. The first person was Mifuyu Azusa, another magical girl veteran who's been a magical girl the same amount of time as Yachiyo. Then Kanae joined them, although she died to a witch sometime after. The next to join were Momoko and Meru. Tsuruno joined after them. The group went out to hunt a witch one day, but Tsuruno couldn't make it. Meru ended up dying that day, but this time she had turned into a witch. Yachiyo started suspecting whether her friend's deaths were her fault becuase of her wish. Since her wish was "to survive" (in refrence to her career as a model) she wondered if her friends has died so that she could survive. Since both Meru and Kanae died protecting her. And then Mifuyu disappeared (she joined a magical girl cult, but Yachiyo doesn't know that), which was the final straw for Yachiyo. She ended up pushing Momoko and Tsuruno away. It stayed that way until Iroha arrived at the city, searching for her little sister, Ui, who she had forgotten about, as all evidence of Ui's existence had inexplicably disappeared. Yachiyo ended up helping her, along with Tsuruno. Yachiyo kept both of them at arm's length though. During the search for Ui they picked up Felicia and then Sana. Felicia was an orphan who's family was "killed by a witch" (she actually killed them by accident and wished to forget it happened, thats a whole other story tho) and would kill any witch in her path out of rage, hoping that she'll eventually find and kill the witch that took her family away from her. She lived as a magical girl mercenary before she was basically adopted by the others so that she wouldn't starve. She loves Dragon Ball (or the pmmm equivalent of it) and cows. That doesn't relate to anything, but I think it's cute.

And then there's Sana, who wished to become invisible. She was always a disappointment in her family, and eventually they disowned her because of it. Her family went on with life as if she never existed, ignoring her. She felt that it would be better off if she just disappeared, so that's why she wished what she did. Iroha and the group found her in the rumor of the Endless Solitude, where she lived with an AI called, uhm, Ai. Ai actually contacted Iroha to save Sana because she knew that she wouldn't be able to stay with her forever. Iroha was the first person to ever say she needed Sana, and after they destroyed Ai, Sana went with them. It seems a itty bit cruel to destroy Ai but it was necessary since her barrier was literally being used as a storage site for witches (thnx Alina. I love her though, Alina is my favorite Magireco character apart from Karin). Sana starts to warm up to the rest of them, and realizes this is what family is supposed to feel like. And then ummmm... Felicia, Tsuruno, and Sana get brainwashed and recruited into the cult by Mifuyu!! Yachiyo, who had started to let her guard down, decides to break up the team. She tries to push Iroha away just like she did the other group. But Iroha pushes back, and promises Yachiyo that she won't die. The two work together to find the others after that. They find Sana and Felicia, whose brainwashing had worn off (Mifuyu has actually helped them escape, as the brainwashing hadn't been her idea), but not Tsuruno. Tsuruno had actually been fused with a Rumor (thnx Alina) and was going to be forced to commit mass murder! Average Tuesday. They eventually find Tsuruno but realize somethings wrong with her. They were told by Mifuyu that, to free Tsuruno from the Rumor, they had to "connect hearts" with her (I forget the exact wording, but basically they had to fully understand her and then connect with her using their magic. "Connect" is actually a game mechanic that lets magical girls combine their magic). But, when Yachiyo tried to do that, it didn't work. https://youtu.be/Hc4ED9TBX18 (watch this) You see, Tsuruno on the surface is very energetic and happy and sunny all the time. She titles herself "The Mightiest Magical Girl" and has the power to back that claim. She's basically a straight A student at school with perfect attendance (until the brainwashing). And shes just a very kind person in general. Except she has a habit of bottling up her feeling and masking her worries. Meru's death actually affected her quite a lot. She blames herself for it, since she wasn't there. She feels pressured to keep up her appearance as "The Mightiest". Yachiyo even fed into it, though it was accidentally (she was going through some shit after Meru died as well). Yachiyo realized this after she recognized Tsuruno's expression as the one she wore after visiting an amusement park with Yachiyo and Momoko sometime after Meru's death. She was able to truly connect with Tsuruno after that realisation. And after that incident, the whole group made sure to support her so she didn't have to deal with everything on her own anymore. Ui was the last addition to the group after Iroha saved her from her state as a "half-witch". I'm not going to try to explain that here as it's unrelated.

Long story short, her best friends from the hospital (she had a heart disease, and Iroha's wish cured her from it) stopped her from turning fully into a witch, but to do that one of them had to erase all memories of her with a rumor. Yeah, her best friend was creating the rumors. The rumor implanted false memories of Touka and Nemu (her friends) trying to save all magical girls along with Alina, an artistic prodigy who was staying at the hospital after to a failed suicide attempt. Their key to saving magical girls was Ui's half formed witch. Which they formed the cult around. Ui got saved though! :D Buttttt her half witch broke into some peices scattered around, which the collection of is basically the main plot of arc 2. They made a home for each other and stuck together through the trials and tribulations of arc 1, even putting their life on the line for eachtoher. And all of this, is why Mikazuki Villa is THE BEST found family. I hope you've watched Madoka Magica before, because if not, this would make zero sense. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOTH MADOKA MAGICA AND MAGIA RECORD!! Magireco is a lil harder to find, but you find it on youtube at Magia Union Translations. Don't watch the Magireco anime, it sucks.

My idea for Frozen 3

Which surprisingly acknowledges the second movie! Even though I dislike it, I'm not going to pretend it doesn't exist. Well, think of it as a Frozen 2.5 as it's more of a spin-off movie. Rhe story takes the magic mirror elements from the Snow Queen tale. Tw for Flashing Images

The movie starts with Hans is still on punishment for his actions in the first movie. He's sick of shoveling horse crap and resents his station in life. One day his father offers him a deal: find a magic mirror and bring it back and he will reverse all charges. Maybe even upgrade his rank. Seeing it as a chance to finally prove his worth and get back at the people who wronged him, Hans eagerly accepts the deal.

He boards a ship set coursed to Westleton as a starting point. But one evening it gets caught in a cyclone and Hans is thrown overboard. Miraculously he lands on a deserted island. Turns out the island is inhabited by a beautiful woman named Kirsten. Her only companions is a female reindeer named Anders and a artic fox kit named Sian (pronounced shee-anne).

To Hans's surprise Kirsten has the mirror he's looking for. So he puts on the charismatic Prince Charming act to try to trick her. But Kirsten is no Anna: she sees right through it and shuts him down! She already knows about Hans as she heard about what he did from the villagers she often stayed with. She decides to take him as her hostage.

Kirsten says she got the magic mirror from one of her great grandparents. Her family were far from royalty and couldn't make ends meet. One of her relatives stole a precious item from a powerful mage to exchange it for food. As a result they got the entire town cursed, which ultimately led her family's exile. She believes that by returning the mirror back to original place, she can end the curse. She could give it to Hans and pass the curse on to him but that would be taking the easy way out.

While on the Island Hans and Kirsten try to get along. He's bitter over losing another chance to be a king and she is upset that she's pretty much stuck with the worse guy on Earth. Doesn't help they have to face obstacles such as like giant bugs; a river of lava that can only be crossed via a wonky bridge; and questionable berries.

Gradually the duo starts to get along particularly after Hans saves Kirsten's life. The journey also forces Hans to rely on strengths other than his manipulation.

During a heart to heart, Hans admit the reason why he's so obsessed with getting the mirror is to show up his family; as he was the youngest they blame him for the death of the Queen (who had died giving birth to him). Kirsten replies while that doesn't excuse taking it out on Arendelle, he was still a innocent baby who did not deserve to be treated that way. The honest talk pushes Hans to consider if it's actually worth it.

In Arendelle Hans brothers' are there, not really caring about the possibility of their brother dying. Anna and Kristoff are uneasy working with them but knows that Hans is a potential threat, unaware that he is changing for the better.

After getting to the other end of the island they make it to a coastal village and stowaway to Arendelle (how ironic). Hans is terrified so Kirsten disguises him as a sailor. By luck they arrived during a time of a festival so Kirsten decides to take a breather. Hans teaches her how to dance and Anders and Sian push for them to be a couple much to Kirtsen's amusement.

After a day of jest Hans and Kirsten resume their quest and make it to the trolls. Grandfather Troll tell them about the hall of mirrors. The others trolls know that Hans is bullshitting with the disguise but Grandfather Troll senses that this is a necessary journey for Hans so they can't interfere.

The quartest go to an abandoned Cave (the mountains Elsa were in the first movie) which turns out to be the entrance to the Mage's house. That's where the ultimate test begins. Hans sees a reflection of himself at various points in his life, and the events that culminated in the monster he was in F1. Realizing he doesn't like what he sees Hans resolves to finally change his life and plans on telling his father the mirror is lost. Kirsten undergoes her own test as her "loner" mentality made her miserable and time with Hans made her regain her sense of trust and joy.

Confronting their past selves they pass the test. But Just as Kirsten is about to return the mirror, Hans' brothers show up (having tracked them down) and take Sian and Anders hostage. To save Kirsten's life he takes the mirror and asks his brother to put her under house arrest. Kirsten is upset and tells him off, which hurts Hans.

Back in the Southern Isles Hans gives his father the mirror. With the item now in his possession the king starts making plans to invade the other nations in the fjord. Hans is given a new rank but cannot enjoy it as he's guilty for lying to Kirsten even if it was to save her life. Knowing his family's true intentions Hans decides to go to the last person to ask for help; Queen Anna.

Hans surrenders himself to the Arendelle authorities and is brought before Anna. She's still angry over his actions. Hans pleads that this isn't about that anymore and he is ready to accept full responsibility. But his father is plotting to take over the entire realms, he has one of hus friends locked up, and he needs her and Elsa's help. Anna senses that the desperation is genuine and reluctantly helps him. She learns about Hans's special friend and skeptical over it.

Together with Honeymaren's tribe the heroes go to the Isles and confront the King. Hans sneaks to the tower and frees Kirsten. She punches him and about to do it again when Hans catches her and confesses he only said that to save her life. He has seen what kind of monster his father really is and no longer wants to put up with him. But first they need to stop him before he brings about a world war. Kirsten is relieved that Hans isn't lying, but she makes her grumpiness clear. During the fight they're arguing and accidentally let slip they like each other.

The heroes end up playing keep away with the mirror but the king gets it and about to turn Kirsten to stone. In an intentional callback to the scene in F1, Hans jumps in the way and gets turned to stone. The king is unsympathetic that he turned one of his own kids to stone. Suddenly Sian bites him causing the mirror to fly out of his hands. Kirsten catches it and smashes it.

The effects of the mirror ends. But Hans remains frozen. Heh. Touched by his sacrifice Kirsten weeps over his body. Then the ghost of the OG mage arrives, having witnessed Hans' sacrifice. Even though Kirsten's family stole the mirror, her determination to set things right and sacrificing her only chance at breaking the curse, made the Mage so impressed he takes pity on them. That, and Hans finally putting his life towards what's actually important.

Hans is restored and he and Kirsten embrace. Much to the shock of his family, Hans renounces his royal title and leaves for good. After the battle the nations in the region decide to cut the Southern Isles and arrest the King. The twelve brothers fight over the throne which eventually leads to the monarchy getting dissolved. Being replaced by a kinder more just Prime Minister.

While Anna and Hans' don't become friends they do become allies. Hans and Kirsten travels the world a bit more, focusing on helping people and Hans working to repair his reputation. Even meets her family (who live with Honeymaren's village). Shortly afterwards, Hans is working as an ice harvester and Kirsten is a writer and publishes stories based on her adventures.

An alternative version of the final battle is the king almost turns Hans into stone to punish him for his betrayal but Kirsten takes the blow instead. Hans realizes this is exactly what Elsa felt when Anna turned to stone. He fights his dad and gets the mirror and smashes it. He cries over Kirsten's, the act of true love cures her and the original owner of the mirror takes pity and heals her blah blah blah blah blah Yes it is cheesy. It's a fuckin disney princess movie let me have fun dammit!!

And later when Elsa sends a message that requires Arendelle, Hans and Kirsten decides to go as he wants to make it up to Elsa too.

The story essentially is removing the metaphorical shard in Hans' eye and leading him to experience the world on his own terms and not just what his family expects. You don't have to help the people who ruined your life and doesn't care about you; but also redemption takes a lot of time and work. You might not always be forgiven but the results are truly worth it. Also learn to consider someone else's need and help people without expecting a reward all the time.

I honestly thought 20 would actually be too much for me, but Monster Siren, Team Kazdel and everybody else who is working on the Arknights music... Kudos. 10 million kudos and a kiss because they are what actually help me get out of bed in the morning.

11. Flame Shadow - Reed the Flameshadow OST There's something very romantic, calming and sweet in this song in general. The second I heard it - I knew it was a me type of song. On a very surface level I vibe with Reed Alter and her song managed to touch me. That's all.

Sentenced - Penance OST And in contrast with FlameShadow this one is rather sad, mournful, it resonated with me at a moment where I was very sad myself and because of that it managed to bring me up. Which I don't know how it works. but thank you Penance, my first wife, first Arknights woman I wanted, for being there.

19. Control's Wishes - Kirsten Boss OST Didn't like it at first. I thought I was too good for the futuristic themes because I really do not enjoy sci-fi that much and the whole 'make a space ship' was over my head. However, the boss fight was cool and the music is cool. Never seen a better themed introduction to a boss than when the music counts down '3, 2, 1' and she shows up.

But most especially Kirsten indirectly and directly killing like a fuckton of people to get to her dream of shooting into space and also irreversibly changing the world and having a whole "I knew at this moment you would be here with me" and "I have only felt alive twice in my life: the first on that day on a hillside when I told you everything, and the second time being now at the fulfillment of the dream" spiel ready as she breaks Saria's heart one final time by forcing Saria into an escape pod built not for herself but for Saria because she knew Saria would still try to save her from certain death despite everything and Kirsten would not risk the only person that's ever mattered. the obsession, the selfishness, all disguised as dedication, things could not have ended any other way for them

And then there's a CG of Saria leaning on Silence like

1) Fuck yeah that's got to mean they talked it out

2) emphasizes again how Silence is everything Kirsten is not, including how she'll let Saria lean on her instead of rotating a perfect, inhuman ideal of a person inside her head to the point of dehumanizing that person and endlessly breaking their heart

Movie Review: Napoleon

Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette married historical characters to contemporary pop music and behavior to present a Marie modern audiences could empathize with. The first scene in Ridley Scott’s Napoleon features her beheading, presented in gruesome spectacle in front of a bloodlust-filled crowd. It is indicative of the kind of movie Scott has made. Whereas Coppola was subtle, Scott will be extreme. It is, perhaps, the difference in a historical picture directed by a woman and one directed by a man. The important difference, though, is not gender but the fact that Scott does not pull it off. His touches of the modern day seem salacious rather than sympathetic, and his lead character never gets into our hearts.

Let us start by admitting that Joaquin Phoenix is one of the great actors of our time, and then let us further admit that he is miscast in this role. Scott and screenwriter David Scarpa, who also wrote for Scott another hidebound, powerful man in All The Money in the World, seem to want to focus on Bonaparte’s fraught relationship with his eventually-former Empress Josephine as much as, if not more than, his military victories. When battles begin, Phoenix is adequate. When he must court Josephine, or seem like a warm and loving husband, the script fails him and he fails the script. He finds some small strengths in Napoleon’s debaucheries. He is portrayed as a glutton and a poor-but-insistent lover, furiously humping an indifferent Josephine and indulging in food and drink on the premise that destiny meant him to enjoy the finer things. Outside of these moments his performance is cold and wooden.

Saving the movie from a character perspective is Vanessa Kirby. She portrays Josephine as a woman with intelligence, cunning and passions she must fulfill. Like Kirsten Dunst’s Marie, she is a powerful female personality trapped by an era that has little to do with strong women, or indeed any woman. Look at Kirby’s eyes when Josephine is freshly released from prison and meets Napoleon, her hair slashed into a spiky pixie cut that menaces with its sharpness and her every word a bullet. She has been some places and seen some things, a fact she insists the general accept if they are to wed. Pulling a Basic Instinct, she shows Napoleon exactly what she has to offer under the hood, and it’s clear she holds all the power here.

Eventually she is exiled from the court because she cannot produce an heir. In her gilded confinement, Kirby summons notes of wistfulness and melancholy that were not required in Josephine’s days of power. Witness her reception of Napoleon’s son by his new wife. She goes from icy to maternal and Kirby’s face slowly catches up. She can handle anything Scott demands of her, and in a just world the planned four-hour director’s cut will focus mostly on expanding her character.

The battle scenes are unafraid to spill blood, and it’s here that Scott’s movie finally comes alive. Whether it’s Napoleon ordering his troops to fire on unarmed loyalists or his final stand at Waterloo, early 19th century warfare was chaotic, personal and gory, and Dariusz Wolski’s camerawork paired with incredible special affects, props and what looks like hundreds of extras recreate this to such detail that at several points I gulped nervously at the carnage on display. Unlike other aspects of the movie, it never feels like Scott has gone too far. We need to know this feeling. Portraying these battles as glorious and honorable would have been all wrong. A battle on a frozen lake is one of the great setpieces in modern film history.

Indeed, these battles lead to the film’s biggest question: what does the director think of his subject? He portrays him as a buffoon who lucked and needled his way into power, and at the end of the film he takes special care to highlight the sheer number of people who died in Napoleon’s military campaigns. It is clear he has an opinion, but he keeps it at arm’s length, contributing further to a film that is already chilly and impersonal. That director’s cut may fix some of the issues present, such as the rushed story in which it is hard to connect any one event to any other. It is instead a series of isolated episodes, moving forward suddenly years at a time, skipping straight from conversation to carnage, leaving us little to hold onto.

Finally the day came for Benjamin’s trip to Britechester. Henford’s train station was empty, save for the theatre group and the Gale family who was there to bid him farewell.

Alice kissed her son goodbye, making sure he knew how to get from the station to Arabella’s house. When he had repeated the address for the third time, she finally let go of his arm and he boarded the train.

Benjamin spent the two hour train ride looking out the window. They flew past the English countryside, the trees and moors becoming a blurred sea of green.

Night had already fallen when Benjamin finally arrived at Arabella’s home on Mossy Lane.

He had barely finished knocking on the door to the big townhouse before it was opened by an excited Arabella, “welcome dear boy! Come in, come in,” she said, ushering him inside, “help him with his bag, Antoine.”

“No need, thank you though,” Benjamin said, giving his hosts an appreciative smile.

After some catching up, Arabella showed him to the guest room, “well then, the wash basin is there, I’ve put out some towels and a soap for you as well. I’ll go fetch some bed sheets. It’s quite small, but I hope it’ll do.”

“Yes, how dare you offer me such a cupboard of a room,” Benjamin said and laughed when he saw Arabella’s horrified face, “I jest, Ms. Goodman- sorry, should I say Mrs. Bradshaw?”

“Don’t frighten me like that, child,” Arabella chuckled, “and Ms. Goodman will do just fine, at least when you’re here.”

After the two had said their goodnights, Benjamin quickly got ready for bed, giddy in anticipation for the morrow day.

Benjamin looked himself in the mirror. He’d been given a thick winter coat, much like the ones he’d seen the wealthy landowners wear around Henford during the colder months.

Outside of the dressing room he could hear the muffled voices slowly getting louder as more people arrived. Martin had told the group to expect about a hundred people in the audience, the thought made Benjamin queasy. His anxieties were dampened however by the otherwise cheery mood in the room.

Benjamin was soon brought out of his thoughts by Kirsten’s voice, “could you help me with my hair? The others are utterly useless in that regard.”

“Yes,” he nodded and grabbed the hairbrush Kirsten held out, “I have sisters, so I’ve had plenty of practice.”

He started brushing Kirsten’s hair, trying his best not to meet her piercing eyes staring at him in the mirror, “are you nervous?” she asked after a while.

He finally looked up, “yes, a bit.”

“I can tell,” Kirsten said softly, “but you’re very talented, Benjamin, you’ll do great.”

Benjamin blushed and said a small thank you, still carefully brushing the long, brown hair.

After what seemed like an eternity in the dressing room, Martin finally stood up, gathering the group around him, "it´s time!" he excalimed.

Benjamin couldn´t stop smiling, this was it.
