hi! i just found this blog and i love it so much. i was rewatching the cocktail chats videos from the youngblood era and i noticed that calum is wearing a ring that seems similar to the matching ones that luke and ash wear? but obviously only luke and ash wear the matching rings now and ashton even has that sapphire version. is calum’s ring in that video actually similar? either way, lashton having matching rings is so significant and cute 🥰 🌈

I looked back at the videos, and yes, it does appear that Calum is wearing what appears to be a black onyx ring. The difference is that no one else is wearing a matching one in these videos nor during this era as far as I'm aware.

At the time of Youngblood/YB promo, there were the star rings that Luke and Ash had that were matching. I have a post tracking interviews and videos they each wore them during, sometimes at the same time, sometimes alternating who has theirs on (much like they have been doing with the black onyx rings during 5SOS5 era, Ash is more likely to wear his if he isn't playing).

Then there were Luke and Ash wearing engagement bands during the 10 Year Anniversary Show on YouTube.

I find there's significance to the black onyx rings because they both are wearing them even when they are just out and about, or at home. They aren't something they're wearing for show. Like you said, they have some significance.

Also, since I'm in the 1D fandom I saw, Harry's costar in My Policeman David Dawson, announced he and his partner got married, with black onyx rings.

So I found that a bit interesting.

The image of helping Ashton scrub the charred remains of their dinner off the pans flashed across Luke’s mind.

“That wasn’t your fault entirely...”

“Luke,” Ashton shook his head to quiet him. “I owe it to you. Let me make up for nearly burning down the house…Take the day off,” Ashton urged.

3. what are some tropes or details that you think are very characteristic of your fics? pining, completely off-the-wall premises, people being covered in blood, cars, friends to lovers, & general sillyness broken up by characters being emotionally devestated :))

11. are you partial to a certain character/pairing or are you more equal-opportunity? If you are partial to any character/pairing, why do you think that is? i do try my best to distribute my love and fic writing across all the pairings, but i am human i am willing to admit that i occasisionally truck with favoritism (shh don't tell anyone) i have always had a soft-spot for writing lashton and malum, partly bc of what was going on in the fic community when i joined & bc i think their dynamics are pretty natural for me to write. like i can't imagine writing malum as anything other than friends to lovers which is one of my favorite tropes, and lashton are very easy to emotionally devestate bc i have a pretty clear idea of what my fictionalized versions of them would do in response to x thing happening to the other. but i also go through spirts of favoring other pairings! there was a period of time where all the wips i started were mashton (and someday i will finish them,,, someday)

14. are there any tropes you would only read if written by a trusted friend or writer? oh definitely! i think anything that starts to enter the morally grey area (ie fics involving violence or sa or sh) are ones that i don't tend to read unless i know the author's work, just bc it can be really easy to butcher a darker-themed fic, either making it unrealistic or overly romanticized or too preachy for my tastes. i also tend to be pretty hesitant to read fics that are written in a non-au (or in an au very similar to our world), and i like to be familiar with what the author thinks of each of the band members before i dive in. it's fine if their interpretation is different from mine (and it often is lol) but i like to know what to expect and know that they aren't going to be portrayed in an incredibly flat manner. what can i say i'm a bit of a writing snob lol

18. if you wrote a sequel to [fear the fever], what would it involve? welll i may or may not already have a doc with sequel ideas for this fic sooo 👀 i'm still deciding exactly how i want to handle it, but the idea currently in the lead is following them on their roadtrip to malum's wedding and exploring all the struggles that would come with that (only being able to travel when the sun's down, dealing with luke's craving and being regularly trapped in smaller spaces together like the car & motel rooms) and *meanwhile* we'd be following mali koa, who is also on the way to the wedding but she's a secret vampire hunter *cue dramatic music* who picks up on signs that a newborn vampire is heading the same way she is and decides to track it down along the way. the drama! the suspense! the potential! i would love love love to write this and it may be the next long(er) fic i write after i finish my monstrosity of a wip

#i have so many thoughts and feelings about lashton in that fic you have no idea #the tension btw them would be off the charts and the interal struggles for each of them would be soooo tasty #and that's not even getting into the fact that i'd get to flesh out my concepts for a world with vampires & werewolves in it #so yeah hopefully in the next five years lol #answering mail #hazel #the trash talks

Luke wakes up to the sounds of Ashton humming, running his fingers through Luke’s curls. Luke rolls over onto his side and looks up at Ashton.

“Morning,” Luke mumbles. Ashton glances down at him, smile breaking out slowly on his lips, dimples popping. In the early morning light, he looks golden, skin glowing and eyes almost honey colored. Luke curls into his side, letting Ashton scratch at his scalp, sighing contentedly.

“You’re as bad as Petunia,” Ashton teases. Luke smacks Ashton’s thigh in response.

“Killing the mood.”

Ashton laughs, leaning down to kiss Luke. Luke pushes at his shoulders sending Ashton onto his back. Luke straddles Ashton, pressing soft kisses to his lips and cheeks. Ashton laughs, gripping onto Luke’s hips and squeezing. Luke laughs, swatting at Ashton’s hands.

“Ash stop! You know I’m ticklish,” Luke shrieks with laughter, squirming under Ashton’s hands. Ashton grins mischievously, sneaking his hands below the lace of Luke’s underwear and pressing into his hip bones. Luke shrieks again, trying to push himself out of Ashton’s hold. Ashton uses it as leverage, flipping them both over so that Luke’s flat on his back, gazing up at Ashton as he hovers over him.

Ashton stops, arms braced on either side of Luke, grinning down at him. Luke reaches up, pushing a black curl out of his eyes and tugging it behind his ear. In the light, Ashton’s eyes are hazel and glowing, smile soft. Luke smiles up at him, continuing to rub his thumb over Ashton’s skin.

“Hi,” Luke whispers up at him.

“Hi,” Ashton whispers back. He leans down, kissing Luke softly. Luke eats it up, pulling Ashton in closer, pressing their chests flush as they keep kissing. It’s lazy and easy, with no purpose behind it other than to simply kiss.

“You’re cute in my shirts, but I’m not going to have any shirts left if you keep stealing them.”

“Who says I want you to wear shirts?” Luke teases. Even if Ashton’s shirts are too tight over Luke’s broader shoulder, he likes them. They feel well-worn and loved, soft to the touch. They make Luke feel special and cherished when he wears them.

“Well, if we get arrested for public indecency because I’m not wearing a shirt, you can tell management why,” Ashton says. Luke giggles, arching up to steal a kiss from Ashton. They kiss for a few more moments before Ashton finally pulls away, speaking up.

“I promised you brunch didn’t I?” He says, gazing down at Luke. Luke’s a little dazzled looking at Ashton, seeing the open adoration and love on his face. He keeps playing with Ashton’s curls lightly.

“You did! With the fancy pancake shapes! And fruit!” Luke grins. Ashton rolls his eyes a little, but his fond smile gives him away.

“Sweet breakfast for a sweet boy,” Ashton says. He ducks down for another kiss before rolling off of Luke and out of bed. Luke sighs, flopping onto his side and staring up at Ashton.

“Hey.”

“Yeah?”

“I love you,” Luke says. Ashton snorts, leaning down to kiss Luke.

“I love you too. Now come help me in the kitchen you brat,” he says. Luke laughs as Ashton leaves the bedroom, greeting Petunia when he realizes she’s in the hallway. Luke sighs, dragging himself out of bed and pulling on the shorts he keeps by the bed, soft and gray and covered in stars. Luke shimmies them on, leaves the bedroom to find Ashton on the stairs, carrying Petunia down.

“And you say I spoil her,” Luke teases. Ashton flips him the middle finger, but makes no move to put her down until they’ve reached the ground floor.

“Maybe I won’t make you pancakes now,” Ashton says.

“You wouldn’t dare,” Luke fires back. Ashton blushes, clearly caught out by the truth in the statement. Ashton just shots Luke another middle finger, heading into the kitchen. Luke laughs, following after him.

Ashton’s already pulling things out of the cabinets and trying to set the kitchen up. They’d watched one too many cooking videos over the weekend and decided that they wanted to make pancakes in different shapes. They’re going to attempt to make them using squirt bottles with the batter. Luke doesn’t know if it will work, but Ashton has far more confidence in it than he does.

Ashton pulls out the pans and the pancake mix from the cabinet. Luke grabs the eggs and milk from the fridge. Ashton heats up the pan they use, putting some butter on it to make it easier to use. Ashton starts the mixing while Luke grabs their little coffee pot, getting the bag of coffee they keep in their freezer to scoop it out.

“Ground coffee? Getting fancy there Luke,” Ashton teases as he beats the egg in the bowl. Luke shrugs.

“Thought we deserved the change is all. We have all this coffee that we barely use. Gotta spice things up,” Luke says, wiggling his eyebrows. Ashton dissolves into giggles, swatting at Luke as he finishes mixing the batter. He pours it into the bottles as Luke heats up the water. Ashton holds a bottle out to Luke.

“Fire away.”

“You trust me?”

“No, but it’ll be fun,” Ashton says. Luke laughs, pointing his bottle at the pan and trying to spray the batter into a heart shape. It turns out lopsided and uneven edged as it starts to cook. Luke wants to be sad about it, but Ashton’s laughing, waiting till it's brown before flipping it. He takes it off the pan, puts it on the plate. Ashton tries his own heart, more like a blob than a heart. Luke giggles when Ashton huffs.

They keep going, trying to make hearts and flowers, their initials. All the pancakes are slightly uneven, less defined edges. Ashton keeps complaining about how easy the videos made it look, how it’s clearly not. Luke keeps giggling, giving him kisses on the cheek to make him feel better. Ashton always prides himself on how well he can cook. It must be killing him.

“At least they’ll taste good,” Luke reassures him as they turn off the stove once they’ve run out of batter, making sure the coffee’s ready.

“If you say so,” Ashton mumbles.

“Hey, you made them. They’re going to be amazing. We should eat outside. It’s nice weather out there,” Luke says, squeezing Ashton’s hand, smiling at him.

They make their way outside to the deck, bringing their plates of food, fruit, and mugs of coffee to the table they have out there. Petunia trots out after them, curling up at Luke’s feet once he sits down and gazing up at him, clearly begging for food. Luke tries to ignore her, instead looking up at Ashton.

Ashton’s cut his pancake into little bites, but he hasn’t made a move to start eating them. Instead, he’s pushing the blueberries around on his plate, coating them in the maple syrup and slowly eating them. Luke eats a couple bites of his lopsided heart, relishing in the sweetness of the syrup, the fluffiness of the pancakes. Luke’s not sure why, but they’re the best pancakes he’s ever had. Could just be because Ashton made them for Luke and Luke loves everything that Ashton makes him to eat.

“Are you finishing that or…?” Luke trails off, making to stab a piece of Ashton’s pancake when Ashton’s been silent for too long, poking at his pancake. Ashton smacks his hand, glaring. Luke smiles innocently in response, eyes wide and innocent.

“Don’t even think about it,” he snaps, stabbing the piece and sticking it in his mouth. Luke laughs, leans over to wipe a bit of syrup from his lips. He sucks his thumb in his mouth, grunning when Ashton stares obviously at his lips. Luke blows him a little kiss, laughing when Ashton huffs, rolling his eyes.

They eat in comfortable silence for a few moments, knocking their feet against each other under the table. The pancake hearts are lopsided and none of the shapes look like their shapes, but Luke’s never been happier. He’s eating pancakes with fruit with Ashton, sitting outside on their deck with Petunia at their feet. He’s so overwhelmingly happy, can’t stop smiling.

“Hey,” Ashton says, softly.

“Hey,” Luke replies.

“We should get married.”

“We already are silly,” Luke laughs. Ashton shakes his head.

“No, we should do our backyard wedding. We should do it soon. Like, put a date on it for Michael and Calum. We can invite Sierra and KayKay too. Make a little party of it.”

“Really?”

“I don’t want to wait any longer to be married to you. I want to call you my husband. I want to tell our friends how much I love you. I want to kiss you in front of everyone. I want to see you in your dress and dance with you in heels until your feet hurt and then I want to undress you later and see your lingerie. It’s nice weather for an outdoor wedding. I want to marry you under the sunshine and blue skies. Let’s get married,” Ashton says. Luke drops his fork, leaning over the table to take Ashton’s face in his hands and kiss him.

“Yes. Yes, god yes. I want to marry you so much. Let’s do it.”

“You already have everything don’t you?” Ashton teases, gripping onto Luke’s wrists and squeezing. Luke smiles, cheeks hurting from the force.

“Of course. Who do you take me for?” Luke says, laughing. Ashton grins even wider, pressing another kiss to Luke’s lips. Luke goes around the table, collapsing into Ashton’s lap and snuggling into him. Luke knows they still have to finish breakfast, clean everything up, call their friends and arrange things. They still have to check if Calum’s ordained yet, set things up, plan out everything just to get married in their backyard, but for now, Luke rests his head under Ashton’s chin and sighs happily, closing his eyes. He’s happy and warm and in love. He could live like this forevermore.

5SOS Royal Albert Hall 'The Feeling of Falling Upwards' Fan Q&A

Luke and Ash (Lashton notes) during the Royal Albert Hall Fan Q & A Pre-show (Includes video)

- Luke is mostly focused on, staring at Ash, right from the very start and A LOT throughout (and not just staring, but it’s the way he’s staring at him a lot of the time).

- Laughing a lot at each others jokes, though that’s nothing new for them. Luke thinks Ash is the funniest person on the fucking planet (so adorable).

- A lot of the time there’s this tension between them, I don’t know how to class it (maybe its sexual but idk), but it’s easy to see if you focus on just them.

- Luke and Ash are wearing their matching onyx rings. Luke black onyx, Ash new blue sapphire ring which matches style of Ash’s matching black onyx one. (Blue sapphire = 5 year anniversary from when they lived together in 2017)

- Luke wearing his rainbow shirt. He started wearing it in Ireland on TMH tour, but he has worn it many times ever since. Meaning it wasn’t just for that occasion. It meant something.

- Luke, as Ash is intro’ing the show, remarks about Ash having his “soft voice on”, then (what seems like to appease to Luke’s comment) keeps talking in that same soft voice, then after a couple sentences Ash clears his throat to bring himself back to the matter at hand of intro’ing the show. (10:37)

- Luke brings up yet again about the band being like a marriage. (There’s interviews that the guys say that the band comes first even before women. This sentiment has been brought up for years and years now. There’s a specific interview where Luke and Ash say they prioritize 1. Band, 2. Family 3. The gfs, Luke is quick to say band always comes first when you’re in a relationship. Ash even talks about celebrating his sisters birthday instead of the “lady he sees” when they happened at the same time. There’s something about how he says “I see this lady” like he could've just as well talking about his hairdresser or something LOL, there’s a Zach Sang one where Luke says the home life suffers a bit)

- (4:40) Luke holds himself back from making a joke, apparently not suitable for the livestream, about being open in the studio, Ash immediately starts to laugh.

- (6:30) Ash reads a question about what should be a first dance wedding song. Luke immediately interrupts before Ash can answer by saying “ bad omens”, then Ash in a soft way says “dude get out of my way here” and they proceed to giggle. Then Luke says it’s “something we have to work on later”. So, think back to Luke’s comment about marriage just moments before), Ash “this is my headspace”. (7:10) Then Ash gives the answer of “Older” with a stutter, then Michael laughs as it feels a bit awkward, so then Ash quickly moves on to next question, throwing to VT.

- Michael says the message they want to get across for this album is “the relationship between the four of us, and the feeling of falling upwards”. The album is about them/5SOS. (My note: "Complete Mess" originated as a romantic song, but then the mv showed the dynamic between each of them).

- (13:00) Fan question about listening to songs for the first time. Luke says “the first time you listen back, you dim the lights, or maybe you’re in Ashton’s convertible, thats a nice feeling too” *Ash goes quiet and looks down to the floor* Luke continues on, “If we’re all together we dim the lights and it feels triumphant.” This insinuates that Luke and Ash listen to songs together, just the two of them for the first time in Ash’s convertible. It’s a separate thing than with all the band together.

(14:00) Calum remarks about believing everything that he’s told. Ash’s sarcastic remark of “that’s the spirit” with a head shake. (This insinuates there could be narratives being told to him. Or, he's just plain mocking how the general public and the fans believes things that they're told, without question.)

- Answering question about being “the masters of friendship”… Michael teases like a bff would that Luke is still learning to.

- (15:37) Fan question about how the band is so good at friendship and calls them “masters of friendship”. Calum says “relationship or friendship” at the beginning of his answer, when the question they were asked was about friendships.

- Luke saying towards Ash “just pictured you walking up to you” after Ash answers the question of what he would tell his younger self. The guys would take the blue line, then the red line which brought them to Hyde Park (across the street from RAH). On the album there’s a song called “Red Line” which is the train route they would take, while living in London, to go to songwriting sessions. Also, this reminds me about the train they all ride in the “Old Me” music video.

- (23:00) Luke’s favorite lyric answer from the album “I like the ashtray one in Take My Hand, I like the cocaine colored wedding dress in Older” then looks over at Ash. (The lyric in “Old Me” that has the double meaning of Ashes/Ash is, the 5sos twitter account RT’d fanart which made the same connection, by making Ash’s face onto an ashtray). Ash’s answer to fave line is “mine is, I’m still making sense of having nothing left to save… ouch”. Calum’s line as he’s looking at Ash like Ash probably wrote it “beautiful moment in time, it comes and goes in waves, and when I open my eyes, I hope I see your face”, during that line Ash does a surfing type motion. There’s a history of Luke and Ash learning to surf together and posting their surfing dates and Luke quoting Ash to his post when Ash doesn’t go with him on a surfing trip “looks like he can surf but he cannot.” That’s what popped into my mind.

- Fan Question: “What has been your biggest challenge as a band. Have you been able to overcome that challenge? If so, how?”

Ash answer is first ribbing on Calum’s bass playing then switching to complimenting his playing, like a bandmate bff does. “Biggest challenge for me is, as life moves on and gets more complicated, it gets harder to see what we naturally were at the beginning. *looks over at Luke* as we get further and further away so the challenge is to re-meet our childlike selves that involve ourselves with 5 seconds of summer and reattach to that beauty and simplicity. Do that all the time” Luke “that’s a great answer man”.

- Luke “we’re gonna throw to VT, I gotcha” Ash “gotcha”

- Fan question: “If you could chose one really memorable and defining moment over the last 10 years, that has really struck you artistically or personally, what would it be?”

Michael “My answer would probably be our first trip writing this, the second trip was great but the first was really great. That stands out to me a lot” *Luke nodding*. “An amazing time just making the 10 year anniversary thing, was amazing. Everything leading up to this show would be memorable to me. And pretty awesome.”

Luke “so you're saying recent stuff”

Michael “yeah, yeah, I think I’m more of a recent brain.”

Ash “I’m with you. It definitely seems like things are getting better all the time. *looks at Luke* its amazing”

Ash’s very soft voice with a meaningful smile to Luke while reassuring “yeah… yeah”. 🥰

“And having the pleasure to watch the love go-” Ashton clears his throat slightly over the missed word. “Pardon me, grow over the years, have been one of the greatest jobs - I mean joys, damn.”

He pauses again then, looking up at the ceiling of the great, warm toned room the reception was being held in. He hears a few laughs, his entire speech essentially being the well spoken one of the band tripping over what felt like every other word.

“You’ll have to excuse my apparent lack of articulation tonight, just love these two a lot,” he smiles brightly, turning to the table where Michael and Calum sit, gentle smiles gracing both of their lips. It’s the kind of smile one gets when finally checking in at a hotel after a long road trip, one of peace and gratitude and a thankfulness for just finally being there. “I’ve loved being able to watch them love each other, and I know I’ll continue to do so as long as we’re all meandering our way around the globe.”

Ashton reaches for the champagne flute and raises it up, the rest of the guests getting the silent message. “To the grooms,” he says simply, the room repeating the phrase before clapping.

Ashton makes his way back to his table - the one just beside where Michael and Calum are sitting with their families - and is still shaking his head at himself as he hears Calum behind him saying something about the bar and the DJ.

He goes back to sipping at his bubbly water, a pout resting on his lips at his lack of grace during probably one of the more important speeches he’ll give for his friends. He’s just about to dip into phase two of Overthinking when he feels a weight drop onto his shoulder and blonde curls out of the corner of his eye.

“You are a menace,” Ashton starts, his head dropping to rest against Luke’s nonetheless.

“It was a beautiful speech, babe,” Luke hums, turning his face some to press a kiss to Ashton’s cheek. “Don’t know what had you mixing up your words up there though. You’re probably the only sober person in the room right now.”

Luke’s observation is punctuated by the scene before the two of them, the newlyweds dancing against each other to some song that probably got played at their middle school dances. Ashton wonders silently what the reaction of the mothers sitting at the table just to his right are. He laughs then before answering Luke. “It was you.”

Luke sits up then and Ashton turns to face his boyfriend. “Me? What did I do? And don’t say anything about the quality of my speech. It was already so unfair that I had to be followed up by the eloquent one.”

Ashton shakes his head, his hand reaching up to cup Luke’s jaw, his slight stubble from the day tickling his palm while his thumb brushes over the blonde’s pouted bottom lip. “No, like you just have to quit smiling at me. I can’t stop messing up my sentences when you look at me like that.”

“I was just smiling”

His hands slides back to rest at Luke’s neck as he sighs. “But you were smiling in the same way Michael was when Calum was saying his vows. It just,” Ashton pulls his bottom lip between his teeth, biting anxiously at the skin. “It got me thinking.”

He looks up to meet Luke’s gaze then and smiles at the pink across his cheeks and nose. The blue eyed boy lights up some. “Thinking about what?”

“About the ring I’ve been hiding in an old vitamin bottle for the last 6 months. About how long is necessary and appropriate after your best friends get married to wait to propose to your boyfriend.” Ashton says, confidently.

It’s Luke then who starts to trip over his words, his blush deepening as he stammers. The song playing around the room switches then to something slower and Ashton moves to stand. He holds a hand out to Luke, who stands as he grabs the hand, intertwining their fingers. “Come on, Mr Hemmings. Wanna dance with you.”

Luke mumbles something as he turns to set his glass against the table. When he turns back to Ashton so they can go find a spot on the dance floor, Ashton throws him a puzzled look. “What was that?”

An arm is wrapped around Ashton’s waist then as Luke pulls them closer. He dips his head just slightly while Ashton lets his free hand drop to Luke’s shoulder. “I said not ‘Mr Hemmings’ for long, apparently.” he whispers into Ashton’s ear before placing his lips just below it as they start gently swaying.
