I still not over it.
So some observations of S01E03.
The episode starts with a scene from adult Len and old Lewis. I confess that I had forgot that if they were in the past Lewis should be young and thought he would be like that in the episode.
Tumblr media
It's the first minute of the episode and I'm already sold.
Tumblr media
Who doesn't love Len being a smartass?
Tumblr media
You're charming love.
Tumblr media
Look I understated people who buys "Mick is only muscle force and no brain" propaganda, but listen... He didn't said nothing wrong here, you can argue he was unsympathetic, but he really don't knows/cares about them.
Then there is this scene.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Look the only one explanation I accept is these two gremlins were listening and waited until the worst moment to chime in.
Worst? You can say. Yes the worst, since neither of them had intention to be included. They were left at the ship almost 90% of the time, so I'm sure they knew it wouldn't be different.
Tumblr media
Len, as always has a plan.
Tumblr media
Jax not being intimidated by these two supervillains gives me life. "Shoot me then!" And Mick as a good gremlin is happy to play the game. Do I think Mick would really shot? Maybe, I don't know. Because it's part of how they (Len and Mick) play this game, and as I said early, Mick really doesn't care.
Tumblr media
I'm really curious about who is the next Len's going to talk into robbery. My first option was Stein, but maybe Sara is more realistic. Look to this face, "I'm not asking," Sure Len. Sure.
Tumblr media
Mick receives an unexpected new information. It's obvious that Len didn't talk with him about it. I'm not sure of why, and is fun to speculate.
Tumblr media
New input is given. Hey, let's talk how Mick knows Len's childhood address. How it's so fast to Mick bring this information up. Here is when Mick stars to match the points.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There, there is when Mick has the big picture. I need to point out this scene is short and Mick spend around 5 seconds to put it together.
Tumblr media
And even if Len is getting pissed, he still going. Mick is right.
Tumblr media
Oh I like it so much. Look to his face at the end. Even if Mick calls Len boss, this is a partnership. Mick knows Len, even the dark part, maybe even more the dark part. He isn't surprised, not anymore. Do you think that they did talk about "What if?" "What if Lewis never went to jail?" "What if I never lighted the fire that night?" Because I am doing this a lot.
Tumblr media
And I need to point out that Mick didn't forgot that messing with time can have consequences.
This scene, where Jax has lines too, is less tan 1 min. So no Mick isn't only muscles.
I need more time to process the smoll bean Len scene. That one broke my heart and I still not coherent enough to put words on it. So let's skip to the end of their mission (the mission being messing with Len's timeline).
Tumblr media
Look to him, trying cheer up Len. Maybe it's going to take a little more time.
I have a problem how at same time Mick and Len have a deep connection there are a lot of small details about how looks like Len is distant of Mick. Like, when Rip insults Mick intelligence, leaving Mick out of the loop 2 times (one when Len get the key, and then about what he is going to do with the gem)...
It's interesting to see the small fractures showing up, it's sad but they are already there.
My babies. <3

Okay, so I’ve been watching The Last of Us, and did 80s music start playing at the end of the first episode
because Bill and Frank were already dead for a bit? I know that Joel basically says that but also great re-contextualizing of the first episode’s final minute.
Also can I just say that seeing the same place at different points in time really scratches an itch in my brain. Like how a place so warm can turn so empty.

Early Jim Kirk: Why So Serious?
To the people who said that Paul Wesley's Captain Kirk was "too serious" or that it "wasn't our Jim Kirk":
Tumblr media
Let's have a kiki, shall we? :)
A lot of folks seem to forget who Jim used to be before meeting him in TOS.
In an interview, Paul Wesley discussed how different Jim's early character and life was from TOS Kirk. Wesley's study of Jim and his early characterisation was in fact based on TOS descriptions and relevant lore surrounding it. I was not at all phased by the Jim we saw, as early Jim is described as quite a departure from our flirty, confident TOS Jim. Wesley did his homework.
From the chat that Kirk has with Gary Mitchell in TOS (Where No Man Has Gone Before 01x03) and Bones in Shore Leave (01x15) re: Finnegan, we learned in Jim's younger years, Kirk didn't always have that swagger. In fact, Jim used to be a rather serious nerd.
Kirk in the academy was described as "a stack of books with legs", "positively grim", and "watch out for Lieutenant Kirk. In his class, you either think or sink".
Tumblr media
He also adhered to Starfleet rules far more in his early years a la Boimler. For example, he reported an error that older officer and very good friend of his Benjamin Finney made on the USS Republic, leading to Finney's demotion and later the events of Court Martial (01x20). He reported one of his own besties to HQ and got him demoted. Quite a departure from how often Kirk violates Starfleet orders and directives for Spock on TOS. Again, he is not the same Jim. Character growth.
I think folks get so wrapped up in Spock being the thinking guy and Kirk being the action guy that they forget: You kind of have to be a brilliant genius and thinker to even get a starship command, let alone the flagship. Jim is not dumb and never was; he is exceptionally smart. Spock is just a freaking GIGA GENIUS and anyone standing next to that might look less bright in contrast. But make no mistake, Jim is also brilliant as a military man and diplomat.
Jim is often stereotyped as a swaggering meathead when he is actually an intelligent and capable diplomat even from his earliest years with Starfleet. As a cadet, he was decorated by Starfleet with the Palm Leaf for his peace mission work on Axanar (Court Martial 01x20). As a Captain, Jim helped to complete just as many successful federation member recruitments as he did take names and kick ass.
Jim loves chess. He loves his dad's old books and classic literature. He memorizes quotes from those texts and references them constantly in TOS. How many jocks do you know out here memorizing classic literature to reference even now in our time? One of Jim's most precious, prized possessions is an old text copy of "A Tale of Two Cities" he got as a gift for his birthday from Spock.
Tumblr media
There are still those glimpses of old Jim planted throughout TOS and the movies.
As you examine him and his past, every description of him as a young man in the original series was that he was a nerd. Kirk, as a character, shows how much we change as people from high school/uni to adulthood.
The early Jim Kirk is not the Kirk we knew and loved, and he often comes as a surprise to folks accustomed to the Jim he later becomes. He grows into his own over time and finds himself, like many of us. But Wesley's portrayal seemed surprisingly apt to me, considering early descriptions of James T. Kirk's character.
TLDR: Jim Kirk was described in his early years as "serious", "positively grim", "a stack of books with legs", top of his class, and would report you to HQ for a crumb. This is not the Captain Kirk you knew who took command of the Enterprise in 2265. Jim Kirk used to be a serious, passionate Starfleet nerd.
All in all, I thought Paul Wesley's character study with all this considered was
Tumblr media
Anyway, thanks for coming to my Ted X Talk about baby James Tiberius Kirk.
I'd love to hear from you folks, feel free to chip in, add to this or correct any errors. :) LLAP.🖖
EDIT: See Part 2 of this Jim Kirk SNW AU Analysis where I respond to an ask from @letteredlettered; we get into the importance of the Triumvirate for Kirk Prime, as well as the relevance of why Jim Kirk being assigned the Farragut would be a poor choice of command commission for him. It further solidifies that this is not “our Kirk”, but an AU where we see what would come of our Kirk if he did not get the flagship commission or meet his boays to form the Trek Trinity.

Hi, there! I must admit that I'm fascinated with your takes on our lovely couple, that is GSR. Honestly, before I fumble into your blog, I was quite lost at the deepness that is their relationship. So thank you for this incredible work you've been doing! 💗
Based on that, do you think that during s1, specifically in s1e02, Sara and Grissom might have met in particular? If you know what I mean. Assuming they, in fact, already had some sort of more intimate relationship back from San Francisco's time.
I've always wondered that. As it was never meant for Sara to stay in Vegas, right? Her permanent stay was something bright new, and I wonder if they took 'advantage' of that moment, even under those terrible circumstances. Which would might lead to why Sara might have accepted the proposal of staying in Vegas and why she might have thought Grissom would pursue a relationship with her, only for her being frustrated by that man's terrible dating skills (well, not that terrible, just a bit unusual).
Sorry, I started mumbling! But thank you beforehand! I love to read your analysis of them <3
hi, @ms-machine!
thank you for your kind words! i'm so glad you enjoy my gsr takes and find them helpful for understanding the ship! ❤
re: your question:
if i catch your drift, you're asking if i think grissom and sara have sex while sara is in vegas during the events of episode 01x02 "cool change," yeah?
while upon sara's arrival in vegas (which takes place, within the universe of the show, on approximately 10.16.00), grissom and sara are super flirty with each other and grissom does open up to sara emotionally, both of which behaviors could be indicative that they sleep together while she is in town, since grissom and sara also often act that way at other times during the early seasons of the show when we know for certain they're not having sex, said behavior in itself isn't enough to prove anything one way or the other.
just looking at the timeline, sara wraps her mini-investigation into warrick's conduct and whereabouts within the course of a single day, and, during that day, both she and grissom are extremely busy—he with his inquiries into the mysterious circs death of ted sallenger, she with her examination of warrick's itinerary surrounding the gribbs shooting. that so, after their initial interactions in front of the monaco casino, grissom and sara don't really talk to each other again until the end of the episode, when they convene with the rest of the team to watch as gribbs's killer is remanded into custody.
given the tight schedule they're on through morning and afternoon hours, we can probably say with some surety they don't sleep with each other then.
but what about afterward?
after all, the events of episode 01x03 "crate n' burial" don't transpire, within the universe of the show, until 10.29.00—meaning there are thirteen days' worth of unaccounted for time between when we last see grissom and sara following the conclusion of the gribbs case and when we next see them responding to the garris "kidnapping" callout.
honestly, there's so much we don't know about what happens during that interval.
for example, does sara immediately hop a plane back to san francisco on the evening of 10.16.00 after she finishes her conduct report on warrick or does she maybe hang around in vegas for a while afterward? if so, for how long? a day or two? a week? and where does she make her accommodations while she's in town—at a hotel or perhaps staying at grissom's place? if at grissom's place, crashing on his couch or sharing his bed?
another major line of questioning revolves around her hiring process.
we never get to see the moment when grissom asks sara to officially join his team on screen.
when does he do so? has he already made the invitation by the time she's standing at his side in the las vegas crime lab parking lot, watching holly gribbs's killer being loaded onto a police van and taken to jail? or does he wait a couple of days? does she have the job offer in pocket by the time she touches down back in san francisco or does he contact her sometime later in order to extend it?
considering that she is already hired and onboarded just thirteen days later, he probably can't wait too long after the events of episode 01x02 "cool change" to start officially headhunting her, especially since she still has to put in notice that she is quitting with the sfpd.
as stated in the meta i posted the other day, the timeline for these first three episodes of s1 is not very realistic, particularly where sara's hiring and move are concerned.
whenever he does "pop the (employment) question," does she tell him yes before he can even fully finish asking? or does she take a few days to consider?
during that decision-making process, is there any discussion between them about how her joining his team (and becoming his employee) might affect their relationship, one way or another? or is that issue one they gloss over?
frankly, without knowing the answers to these questions, it's really impossible to say definitively whether or not grissom and sara have sex at any point circa the events of episode 01x02 "cool change."
headcanon rules on the matter.
personally, in my headcanon, i don't think they do sleep together during that time, as i tend to believe that had they crossed that particular threshold and gotten into the habit of having a sexual relationship while sara was visiting vegas during the gribbs investigation, they probably wouldn't have been able to backtrack and/or stop themselves from continuing said relationship once she moved to vegas permanently.
to me, i think their sexual encounters—and i do believe they have some while sara still lives in san francisco (just perhaps not "going all the way")—end sometime prior to the gribbs murder.
to my mind, the cessation of their sexual encounters isn't something they discuss (meaning they never have any kind of explicit "hey, now that we're going to be coworkers, we should probably cool it, yeah?" conversation; the encounters themselves just peter off sans acknowledgment as to what is happening or explanation as to why)—which is perhaps the cause of a lot of the confusion of s1, when their relationship seems so ill-defined and nebulous, with unclear expectations.
as for the issue of why sara accepts grissom's job offer and has expectations that she and grissom will continue their relationship once she relocates to vegas, i don't necessarily think she and grissom would have to have sex during the gribbs case in order to cause her to take that course of action and think in that direction.
even if they don't actually ~do the do~ during her brief stint in sin city while she's investigating warrick, she's already head over heels in love with grissom when he asks her to work for him, and they've already been carrying on some kind of ambiguous personal relationship (perhaps even of a sexual nature) prior to this point, so she has plenty of motivation to want to move closer to him and plenty of reason to suppose that if she does so their new, closer proximity will take their relationship to that "next level" she so desires to be at with him as is.
—but all of that stuff is just my take.
like i said, there's really no right or wrong answer here, so if you prefer to imagine that they do sleep together sometime during sara's first visit to vegas, you certainly have ample grounding for that line of thinking.
(thirteen days is a lot of unaccounted for time!)
also, fic rec: i just read @hollygl125's delightful story where grissom and sara do have a sexual relationship all the way up until she officially joins the team, so if you're looking for a well-done take on that version of events, i highly recommend you check it out!
thanks for the question! please feel welcome to send another any time.

the most devastating part of haven is that so many of the troubles have genuine applications and when they end, there is no upside.
in 01x03, our lack of a resolution is the win. lilly, william, & mr. sperry get to live several years of isolated sanity thanks to ray's trouble. but when it ends, so does their ability to exist in relative peace - william and mr. sperry will go back into comatose states, and lilly will return to her tbi-induced state of self harm and aggression.
in 01x06, the only way for landon to exist is because of his mother. she wasn't able to stuff his wife, but because he suffocated she was able to stuff and reanimate him and he straight up did not remember dying. she took that trauma away from him, away from his child, gave them both back something that was taken from them.
but the troubles ending takes that away from them. yes, it takes so much pain away from so many other people - beatrice from just one episode prior will be able to unchain herself from the lighthouse, reenter the world, show off her kids.
but it just... there's a lot to this show and it hurts me to think about everything that will be lost in seasons 4 and 5 as i'm slowly making my way through it all again.

I see a lot of critique for 9-1-1 and 9-1-1 Lone Star that is either “this is so unrealistic” or “this happened in XYZ show” well I get to be the nerd that tells you a lot of what happens in the show is based on real life events and fictionalised (like a lot of shows). So the same storylines come up again and again.
This nerd is going to make a list because real life really is stranger than fiction.
Lonestar
Things that actually happened in real life plus their Lonestar episode:
(Some of these are on IMDB so I’m using the direct quotes)
01x01 - Pilot: A manure factory fire that kills the original 126
Real life: The opening incident at the agricultural-products facility is based on the real-life ammonium nitrate explosion at West Fertilizer Company in West, TX, on April 17, 2013. Fifteen people died in the fire and explosion, including ten firefighters from the West Fire Department. (IMDb)
01x02 - Yee Haw: a man poisons sandwiches with mercury.
Real life:
Tumblr media
01x03 - Texas Proud: someone gets trapped in a grain silo, sucking them down.
Real life:
01x04 - Act Of God: tornados in Texas
Real life: The tornadoes are based on the 1997 Central Texas tornado outbreak that occurred on 27 May 1997 that resulted in 27 fatalities around Central Texas. (IMDb)
01x05 - Studs - fire in a bull semen factory
Real life: The explosion at the bull factory was inspired by a real-life event in Victoria, Australia. (IMDb)
01x 06 - Friends Like These - a dog alerts the 126 of its owners farm accident
Real life:
Tumblr media
01 x 07 - Bum Steer - runaway bull causes havoc in a car dealership
Real life: (happened in Scotland lmao)
Tumblr media
01 x08 - Monster Inside - a rattlesnake infestation in the basement of a house. The dementia storyline was too sad I’m not researching it. Son refuses to accept his mother has passed.
Real life: this one is self-explanatory and there was too many examples and now I’m getting adverts for anti snake traps. America you scare me. (Although I’m reading texas houses don’t have basements the more you know). The last one is a common motif in shows this Criminal Minds episode did it too and so did the film Psycho.
01 x 09 - Awakening - gender reveal party goes horribly wrong plus a caving disaster.
Real life: here is an article about gender reveal party accidents and here is the wiki about John Edward Jones’ tragic death in Nutty Putty Cave
01 x 10 - Austin, We Have A Problem - solar storm fries the electricals
Real life: In the year 1989 in Quebec, Canada, waves of energy called a coronal mass ejection or CME wreaked havoc on the power grid for 12 hours. These CME's are the result of an explosion on the surface of the sun which has released powerful bursts of electromagnetic energy into the solar system. (IMDb)

My Supernatural DR backstory
So, I made a post asking if anyone wanted to see this, and I made it at like 2am so only one person responded, this one's for you @lazerdash
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, as I said, my backstory is a little different to other people's (at least I think so) because I didn't script that I come from a family of hunters or that I even know that the supernatural exists before I first shift - I also obviously didn’t have the option of scripting that I’m a relation of the Winchesters because I'm shifting for Dean, so that would just be gross.
I was born in 1982 in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to my parents Stella and John. I also have a little sister, Robin, who is 2 years younger than me Also, Robin! - I've scripted her into the majority of my DRs because honestly I can't imagine not being a big sister - but I didn't want to script in family from this reality. I love her <3.
My childhood was kind of rough - my dad was very abusive and my mom got a divorce and full custody of us when I was around 7(?) So she was a single parent and my dad very kindly did not pay ANY child support. So my mom had to work multiple jobs to provide for us, which basically meant that Robin and I were really really close throughout our childhood as we were home alone together a lot <3.
So life went on as normal, until I was starting my second year of college out of state, and my mom died... so yeah. Went home for the funeral, took time off school, long story short I moved back to Manitowoc and now manage a small florist's in town. Oh and also there was a big argument between me and Robin so we're not talking atm
So, how do I get involved with the boys? Basically, when I was a kid my mom sent Robin and I to Sunday school, and I made friends with a girl called Sophie Carlton. We quickly became best friends (We were practically inseparable) and this friendship resurfaced when I came back from college after my mom's death. (In my DR she’s the same age as my sister!)
So yeah, Sophie is the first victim in 01x03, and I first shift after she has died, like right when Sam and Dean get into town. Basically I had promised her brother that I would help out a bit around the house as her father was obviously really depressed, cause his daughter just died, so when Sam and Dean are visiting Sophie's house I meet them. and Dean and I kinda hit it off (despite the circumstances) I get on well with Sam and I'm really curious as to what they're doing more or less, so I become involved with the whole plot with Andrea and Lukas and the lake and everything.
After that I kind of decide that I have nothing keeping me in Wisconsin and ask the boys if I can come along with them. I’ve scripted that they say yes which I honestly think is a bit ooc of them but we’ll see how it plays out when I get there I guess
So yeah, that's it basically?? I think so anyway! Thank you for reading if you got this far:) this is all scripted btw, I haven't shifted yet!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
also can we just appreciate Baby in the middle pic. wow. (can u tell i love her nearly as much as Dean does)

TAG GAME: FANDOM EDITION
Tagged by the wonderful @energievie, thank you my love!
Your Name: Michelle (Mys for short)
Your Age: Just turned 38 🤟
Your First Fandom(s): Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Your Current Fandom(s): Shameless is my current active fandom, but like, you never really leave a fandom, you just get distracted by a new shiny thing. There’s still Merlin (2008) and Shadowhunters (2015) fic open on my phone right this minute. And I go back and read some of my favourite fic from much older fandoms on a semi regular basis. I have hundreds of them saved in word. Because if you love something… don’t let it go! Save the ever-loving shit out of it and keep it on your current laptop as well as on multiple external hard drives for back up!!
How did you first get into fandom? I was looking for someone to talk to, and that wasn’t going to happen in real life. So instead I found myself on a German Buffy Forum, which led me to discover fandom, online friends, and fanfic… all of which changed my life forever.
How long have you been engaging with fandom spaces? Probably since 1998? It was during Buffy Season 1, but when it aired on German TV, so 98/99 sounds about right. I DEFINITELY lied to the ‘are you over 18?’ ticky boxes!!
How often do you read fanfics? Daily. I used to be that kid that would walk to and from school with her nose in a book. Now I’m that adult that walks to and from school reading fanfic on her phone.
Top 3 characters from your current fandom(s): Mickey Milkovich. Ian Gallagher. Lip Gallagher.
Have you ever written a fic for a fandom? if so, shout it out! I have. I’m not primarily a writer, but about once a year I get the urge. Here’s my AO3. Also, if you search very hard you may be able to find some German Buffy/Spike fic out there somewhere, from when I was a child, proof read by my mother, whose main comment was ‘Oh my. You could have a career in erotica…’ (They barely kissed! Sheesh!)
Have you ever drawn fanart for a fandom? Yep. Back in the day I did the full range: Drawings, Icons. Wallpapers. Manips. Fic Banners. Fic Awards. Now I mostly stick with traditional art, and then once a year pumpkins haha Some of my recent stuff is on AO3. You can also find a lot of my art on my RedBubble Page or my Instagram.
Share a personal headcanon that you feel very strongly about: For Shameless? The Gallaghers visited Ian and Mickey in prison. Yes, they are busy, but they love their brother, and by extension they love the person their brother loves! And there is loads of them!! If they visited on rotation, it would only really “cost” them one day a month each. Not a hardship, is it? Also, Lip went more often than everyone else. Send tweet.
You’re trying to convince a friend to get into your current fandom(s) with you. what episode, clip, or scene are you showing them? Depends a little bit on the friend and on what aspect of a show I feel they’d vibe with best. 01x03 Aunt Ginger is a pretty good one. It’s got the full family working together to solve a problem. And it introduces Mandy and the itty bitty murder floof, which is a great bonus!!
And finally, what does fandom mean to you? Absolutely everything. You know Penny Lane’s speech in Almost Famous? “If you never take it seriosuly, you never get hurt, you never get hurt, you always have fun, and if you ever get lonely, just go to the record store and visit your friends.”? I followed bands around for about half a decade, and that, and Oasis’ “Please don’t put your life in the hands, of a rock and roll band, who'll throw it all away” were things I tried to live by. But fandom doesn’t work that way. Fandom is all about emotionally investing. Caring too much is basically a requirement. And what makes it safe is the fact that we are all in this together. <3
~
My word that was fun!

You know in Movies/TV/Books they're always like "If you make it personal, you aren't good at your job"?
That means Dean and Sam are awful at their job.
At least in S1. The entire plot is this back-and-forth of who would make it personal for themselves this time. Usually, it's Sam, being the "main character" (for S1), but Dean manages to see himself in a lot of people.
01x01 - The one with the woman who murders cheaters (good on her!) Dad's missing, so it's pretty personal for everyone. Ep does end with Jessica dying tho so maybe more Sam.
01x02 - Wendigos. It's personal for Dean, who wants to bang/sees himself in the girl who's looking for her lost brother.
01x03 - Ghost spirit of a drowned boy. Personal for Dean again, who sees himself in the kid who watched his father drown and likes his mum.
01x04 - Ghost haunts an aeroplane. Doesn't fit rlly.
01x05 - Bloody Mary. Personal for Sam, who's blaming himself for Jess's death and thinks it's his fault.
01x06 - Doppelgangers. Personal for Sam, as it's his college friends.
01x07 - Hook Man. Personal for Sam, as he's crushing on/making out with the girl it's happening around. He also sees himself in her as he thinks he's cursed.
01x08 - Bugs attack town. Personal for Sam, as he sees himself in the kid who has a bad relationship with his father.
01x09 - Poltergeist in Lawrence. Personal for both as it's back in Lawrence and their mum shows up.
01x10 - Mental asylum. Not overly personal, but Sam does say some very personal shit about Dean while possessed.
01x11 - Freaky town/Sam and Dean split up. Not personal. We do hear a very personal conversation with Meg and Sam though.
01x12 - Dean dying. Personal for Dean, who's crushing on the girl they can't save from cancer </3 THIS EPISODE
01x13 - Racist truck driver. Personal for Dean, it's his ex-girlfriend.
01x14 - Psychic kid. Personal for Sam, who sees himself in the guy with psychic powers.
01x15 - Hunting Humans. Not overly personal, but Dean makes it personal when Sam was taken so...
01x16 - Evil Meg Pt. 1 - Pretty personal for Sam, as he just told some pretty personal shit to a demon. And then they make out...
01x17 - Transforming ghost. Not personal really, but the boys do spend the episode pranking each other. I love themmmmm.
01x18 - Monster sucking children's souls. Extremely personal for Dean, who not only blames himself for putting Sam in danger to this thing when they were young but also sees himself in the kid who's brother is hurt. They spend the episode talking about how personal it is (I'm not joking).
01x19 - Ghost Painting. Personal for Sam who has a thing with the woman who sold the painting.
01x20 - Vampire (ALSO JOHN'S BACK). The vampire plot is not personal, but tension runs HIGH with John Winchester so it's pretty personal for everyone.
01x21 - Hunting the Demon. Also Evil Meg Pt. 2. It's THE Demon. Of course, it's personal for everyone.
01x22 - Again: THE DEMON. Extremely Personal for Everyone. Even more personal than the last Extremely Personal episode.
Idk I was watching S1 and I thought it was funny.
Tally Points BTW: Sam - 9 (10 if we count the pilot where JESS DIES) Dean - 6 Everyone - 4 (5 if we count the pilot where John's gone) No one - 2
Sam has a thing with 4 women (Jess, Ep7, Ep19, Meg) Dean had a thing with 4 women (Ep2, Ep3, Ep12, Ep13)
Sam sees himself in 3 people (Ep7, Ep8, Ep14). 4 if you count Meg. Dean sees himself in 3 people (Ep2, Ep3, Ep18)
Idk I was watching S1 and I thought it was funny.

Hetty as Antagonist, Henchman, and Hero
Tumblr media
...The Vault was a real watershed episode, eh?
Tumblr media
This chart may say it all, but there are a few nuances & tricks to writing that this chart doesn't (quite) capture.
Let's see how the writers build a brilliant, half-season character arc.
Spoiler alert.
I'll be using my Isaac Higgintoot analysis (x) as the base.
Some Definitions:
Hero -- Individual who resolves a plot (main or side-plot's) conflict.
Antagonist -- Individual who incites a plot's (main or side-plot's) conflict.
Henchman (gn) -- Individual who exacerbates a plot's conflict.
Catalyst -- Individual who assists the Hero to resolve the plot's conflict.
When creating these categories, I ask: 1) Who makes the decision? 2) When does the conflict (& thus, story) start & end? An Antagonist starts the conflict, and a Hero ends it. Henchmen & Catalysts increase or decrease the conflict to propel the story (viz. they don't start nor snuff out the fire, but they fan or stomp on the flames).
Background
On 2021-12-21, I wrote:
Hetty's one of my least favorite characters (especially in terms on who I'd grab a drink with), so I'm glad they're paying so much attention to her story & her as a character!
(Not in a "fix her" way -- in a "help me understand" and a "root for her when I'm not yet able to" way.)
...
On 2021-12-16, I concluded:
Tumblr media
Hetty's most likely to be doing nothing for the narrative, but still more than twice as likely to be exacerbating the conflict than solving it. If Alberta & Flower weren't in the narrative, this would be a real blow for feminism.
What changed?
The Breakdown
01x03 & 01x09
01x03 -- Hetty’s first narrative impact is sharing a minor antagonist role with Isaac (v. Alberta) — though in 01x01 & 01x02, Hetty’s thematic antagonism was gestured to in the dialogue (e.g. hatred of Irish). 01x03 is a microcosm of Hetty’s arc: 1) Hetty’s desires v. Elias’ (& others’) ideas 2) meets other characters’ influence (Alberta’s), 3) leading to Alberta confronting Hetty’s antagonism & 4) the conflict resolving through Hetty’s change. The writers set Hetty against consensus (both Woodstone Manor’s & the presumed audience’s) & demonstrate her ability to change. Particularly around:
What capacities does she (& other women) have? (sc. Capacities)
How does she react to care within relationships? (sc. Care)
01x09 -- Welcome to the “Possession” set-up! Hetty’s the minor antagonist (vs. Thor). I was tempted to give Hetty a Hero credit in her & Thor’s subplot, but — it’s only because Thor decides to continue extending care in spite of Hetty’s behavior that Hetty remembers. This continues to establish Hetty's prompt towards change being relational (read: Care). Though, as above, Hetty must change herself. Hetty gets the character arc, while Thor gets the hero credit. 01x09 sets up Hetty's arc of change.
Note. In both 01x03 & 01x09, the hero has a (mostly) flat character arc (Alberta begins and ends the story thinking women should exercise the rights they fought for, and it is because Thor continues to care for children despite not being remembered that Hetty recognizes him).
Hetty fails forward.

Tumblr media
...now, isn't that pretty :)
Note. Regarding the theme of Care, Hetty spends most of the episode being hosted by a professional chef and eating. Make of this what you will.
01x04 & 01x05
I'll talk about these just to round-out the list. Tl;dr: Good ol' taste of your own malicious medicine.
01x04 -- Hetty is banished from the dinner party along with everyone else.
01x05 -- Hetty goes along with Isaac's plan, and her impetuousness is showcased here. She loses TV privileges along with everyone else.
This is a move the writers pull with Isaac a lot: they're allowed to do bad things but (unlike Sam), they never get away with it. This builds audience leniency, even empathy, since there's a sense of fairness & atonement clears the board.
Blank Space as Wiggle Room
Remember all the blank space that comes from balancing an ensemble cast? In Hetty's case, this acts as a feature, not a bug.
Tumblr media
(Gestalt subjective contour image source)
...Hetty's narrative in 01x11 and 01x12 are the narrative equivalent of these two triangles. (I.e. you were given enough edges to fill in the blank spaces.)
What's happening with Hetty episodes 01x11 & 01x12?
When Hetty returns in 01x13 to proclaim "And become a better Hetty!" The viewer feels the movement of Hetty's character; 01x11 and 01x12 give us space to put that growth.
How do I write this?
Let's be honest, if you've read this far, there's at least a little part of your brain that wants to pull this off yourself. How?
Establish hints before you go all-in -- We don't see Hetty's structural antagonism 'till Ep. 3, even if we get her -ism-riddled dialogue the first episode.
Always a bigger fish -- Hetty is never the main antagonist.
Down time -- We feel her character development, and the narrative gives us places to fit it.
Fail Forward -- Hetty always learns something from her conflicts.
Karma -- Like Isaac, Hetty can't get away with anything.
Here's to a better Hetty -- and an excellent character arc!

It has begun !
Star Trek series I'm currently at : TOS
Episodes watched : 01x00- 01x03
Episode names :
The Cage ( pilot episode )
The Man Trap
Charlie "X"
Where No Man Has Gone Before
Thoughts:
The Cage
I like the original uniforms.
Normal clothes ! People are wearing normal clothes on their down time.
Ah yes, I too call my friend into my room and then deliberately lay on my bed like Rose waiting for Jack to draw her like a French girl and then proceed to spill my guts to them .
Seriously those uniforms look really fuzzy I love them .
Also didn't they make a scale model to shoot close up for the outside of the ship scenes because quality between the scene of the outside of the ship looks so clean compared to the scenes inside the ship. I also doubt that graphic capabilities were good enough to make the ship look that good .I'm pretty sure I heard about the scale model thing years ago when I was a kid but I'm not sure.
Ah yes , misogyny .
Why is Spock walking like that, was Lenard Nemoy injured or were they trying to make that a special thing for vulcans ?
Big brain bois
I know this is supposed to be dramatic but it's pretty fun like oh no he's been kidnapped but the way they hit him and drag him in is so funny
" I'm not going to do the things they want me to do " proceeds to do exactly what they want him to do.
I was lead to believe that pike was a lot older in the pilot then he is.
Fuck, it's like that pokemon episode that causes seizures
Hell is filled with a boiling hot grits bath
Country roads ~♪
It's like that scene from guardians of the Galaxy where mantis goes " you feel sexual love for her "
Your telling me they Frankensteined this poor lady and held her captive for 18 years and fucked her up real bad cause they had no clue how humans look.
" just hypothetically , which one of us would you have chosen? " " Get back to work " lmao the way she ran out of there.
Other episodes under the cut
The Man Trap
Ah , finally characters that I know
More mind fuck stuff gotcha
Pleasure planet ?
This boy ain't ever seen a horror movie huh ? You'd think that star fleet would have a class on not following strangers around a strange planet because your horny.
Kirk : Finds a dead body and reaches into his mouth
Uhura (idk how to write her name) : have a conversation with me about anything, anything at all. Spock : yeesh , naw
Bones just eat something that he wasn't quite sure if they were what they thought it was , I always found that a weird trope. Like he just shoved a strange white cube in his mouth and goes " yup that's salt " like you think there would be other ways to test that.
This lady is just eating food off of this plate that is meant for someone else. Update : it was meant for sulu , we finally get to meet my boy.
Kirk and Spock are really bad at hiding from the professor
I love how everyone immediately knows that McCoy isn't McCoy but their like whatever and just keep working.
The creature as McCoy : what if we just put salt in our hand and go pspspsspss, with no hostility , it will just come to us, it just wants salt and companionship. Kirk : lol nah let's kill it
Kirk actually put salt in his hand and went pspspssppsss , and it worked
That face reveal lmao , I love these weird creature costumes from the 60s
Charlie "X"
Wtf is up with these faces
What is this medical test
Everyone's been told that this kid hasn't had much interaction with other people for years and then act extremely surprised when he acts weird
"charlie you can't just slap someone's ass !"
Uhura just breaks out in song like this is a musical because Spock is playing the harp or whatever this is , she's good at making up songs on the spot
Charlie and his Jedi shit again
This 17 year old is trying to get with a 30 year old and she's obviously uncomfortable but everyone is like come on it's all fun and games he's just a kid who doesn't understand don't be so harsh. She's still uncomfortable though cause he's a kid.
Charlie slaps someone else's ass , this time it's kirk's and he gave him a "that's pretty gay fam " speech.
It thanksgiving ? That's just a side thing that's only brought up so that this kid could make turkeys appear in the oven.
He's a sore loser fucked up a good chess set
30 y/o introduces 17y/o to another 17 y/o so he has a companion his own age, he becomes more creepy
Captain Kirk give "the talk"
The ship has a dojo ? And Kirk is the only one who is shirtless .
Charlie made a guy disappear and Kirk was overly calm about it .
Dramatic 60s eye spot light thing they do in action movies.
Everyone's shit stops working but uhura gets electrocuted by her console like he just hate uhura for some reason, like he always does the worst shit to her.
Charlie assaults multiple women and then gets mad that people think that he shouldn't do that.
Yo ! A female officer wearing pants . (A lot of people have told me that female officers don't wear pants in TOS)
Trying a coop on this kid for the 15th time this episode, will it work this time ?
No it didn't but this kids mom showed up to scold him.
"yeah , this kids like mega dangerous why do you think we left him stranded on that planet. We could have told you he was there and we didn't for a reason. Come on now child ."
Where No Man Has Gone Before
The uniforms keep changing every episode it's so weird
Scotty !
They accidentally brought a bomb on board
More characters that we probably won't see with any sort of frequency again
Kirk saw some brightly colored storm clouds in the middle of space and went " hey let's drive through it "
It killed several people and the ship isn't working properly
The bomb thing has been forgotten and might not be brought up again
We learn about Kirk's school days from the guy who gained Galaxy eyes from the accident in the cloud
This guy ( his name is Garry took 20 times of people saying his name for me to figure that out) has developed telepathy and telekinesis and now everyone is going all Salem witch trial on this guy , Spock said they have to kill him like my guy that seems kinda extreme, but what ever I guess
This guy has lightning powers now
Yes , inject medicine into him through his shirt that's effective
Garry is trying to kill everyone so never mind Spock is right
He's also called himself a god several times
Spock has a big ass gun (phaser rifle )
Casually strangles his best friend
Oh shit now the doctor has anime eyes
Such and such apple , bitch that's a papaya
Kirk being dramatic , again
Jim kills 2 people with the help of one of the people he killed.
