The Owl House Headcanon on Character's Favorite Japanese Dishes.
Luz Noceda: Okonomiyaki (Hiroshima-Style preferred). She likes it for it is a perfect comforting fusion between pancakes and takoyaki (which she had some bad memory from getting her tongue scrouged by it). Plus, she can choose a variety of fillings, which is great for her neurodivergent vibe (while also easily getting bored).
Tumblr media
Amity Blight: Zaru Soba. She'd likely go for a dish that is simple yet defines Japanese elements. She would enjoy it with chunky chopped spring onion, wasabi-infused dipping, and hot tea on a side. After a few years of trying more Japanese dishes, she also got into shio udon and yakisoba. (and yakisoba-based okonomiyaki with her sweetheart)
Tumblr media
Willow Park: Kimchi Nabe; full of vegetables, proteins from meat, eggs, mushrooms, tofu, and gochujang-rich kimchi (Giving spiciness and Korean-ness that Willow never realized she needed). She loves her nabe with varieties and large quantities of proteins. Especially chicken-based meatballs (like in sumo wrestler Chanko Nabe), chicken breasts, lean slices of beef, and white tofu. Plus, extra spicy.
Tumblr media
Gus Porter: Omurice with ketchup fried rice underneath a blanket of thin and creamy omelet. He prefers creamy demiglace sauce with mushroom and beef stock base, alongside ketchup and a dash of Kewpie mayo. Maybe steamed bacon with low-sodium, crabstick, or fish sausage for the side protein. Plus, he loves Sanrio and doesn't care about locals' eyes upon him enjoying his two plates of My Melody Omurice.(It's kids' size, so two is it).
Tumblr media
Hunter Noceda/Park/Daemonne: Kushiyaki, especially those from old-school Yatai stalls. However, he would avoid poultry-based ones (especially the wings, as tributes to his lifesaver, Flapjack) and alcoholic drinks. He usually goes with beef and vegetables on the same stick. His favorite side drink is Ramune or Calpis yogurt drink. He usually has a few pods of salted edamame first, if offered.
Tumblr media
Vee Noceda: Shojin Ryori meal from local Zen Buddhist temples. Somehow, she can tastes 'magic' in food, and enjoy talking about spiritual and morality topics with Buddhist monks(and nuns). She usually not paying them by money but doing them some cleaning and arranging the sutra. She sometimes enjoy draining magic from Omamori (Green one is a yum!).
Tumblr media
Edalyn Clawthrone: Tantanmen, extra broth, extra noodles, and a few extra pieces of boiled eggs. With rice on the side. After an extreme night (either work, or a party), she carves for carbs, proteins, and spices. Eventually, it becomes her usual comfort dish. Plus, it was worth her two meals and a pretty budget. If she feels extra fancy, maybe some extra meat as well.
Tumblr media
Lilith Clawthrone: Kure's JMSDF (Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force)-style Curry Rice, with milk (low-fat, or soya milk) and salad with a light dressing. She prefers a vegetarian version and original taste that serves Japanese maritime forces. She eventually made her own thanks to befriending a friend who was a chef on a Japanese battleship in the Cold War.
Tumblr media
King Clawthrone: Set of different sushi varieties. He is into nigiri and maki with a few simple ingredients. He is into a grilled saltwater eel, salted boiled ebi (or tempura-fried), churnchy cucumber, and tamago. Onigiri is also his go-to, but he is not into raw meat.

Monday
So many photos
Woke up and went on a little walk again
Got a coffee
Came home
Nutrigrain
Mum visited, we shared scones
Went out to lunch on a mini excursion with Josh. Sushi and sorbet.
Did some groceries
Felt absolutely exhausted and napped
Woke up and did a bit of uni work
Played some of our escape room advent calendar
Had a shower and washed my hair which I hadn’t done since I got home
Came out to Josh making pasta - yum! We do hello fresh but when we have time we love to jazz up the meals. It was already a rosa chicken spaghetti 🍝 we just have some fresh dough yo. Got a little dinner roll too
Just under 2500 for the day which is maintenance. The figures are things to aim for - when eating back near this cal goal I obviously want to keep protein the same fat low-moderate and that means more carbs. Entered in moderate and heavy exercise to see both numbers and find the middle.
Today has been a better day

I'm still surprised by that poll characterizing oatmeal as "old people cereal". Oatmeal is AWESOME, y'all.
It's cheap, especially if you buy a bigger size. You can get really nice oatmeal brands for a low price, especially in terms of cost per serving. You can get twenty servings of nice oatmeal for like seven dollars plus tax.
It's nutritious. High in protein and fiber and complex carbs that give lasting energy and keep your digestive microbiome happy.
It doesn't spoil. Keep it in an airtight container (like the awesome metal can McCann's comes in) and it will stay good until you eat it all.
It's perfect leftovers. You can make it ahead and it reheats great in the microwave. I make 4 cups of milk to 1 cup of oatmeal on the weekend and eat it for breakfast all week.
And it's delicious. It's so versatile. It's a vehicle for yum.
McCann's Irish steel cut is my favorite. Just simmer out in the stove for half an hour while you do whatever. I use plant based milk instead of water, for flavor and nutrition. My favorites are ripple, oatly, and cashew when it's in sale. Usually ripple. The steel cut has a fabulous texture and mouth feel, and is full of fiber and protein. You can find these at regular grocery stores and Amazon.
Bob's Red Mill is also great. Their quick cook steel cut oats are also yum and a lot faster than the McCann's. I get mine at Costco but again Amazon etc. This one is less common at regular grocery stores.
And then there's the brilliance of overnight oats. Stupid easy and so delicious. Add Greek or Icelandic yogurt, some fruit, and you're good to go.
And y'all, oatmeal can be sweet or savory.
Oatmeal is great with everything bagel seasoning and a fried egg. Or bacon and cheese. Or spiced nuts. Oatmeal likes Sriracha, if you're into that. Sprinkle chia seeds out ground flaxseed or hemp seeds for extra nutrition.
Oatmeal is great with maple syrup (the real stuff) or honey and dried fruit and some nuts. Re nuts, buy the cheap tiny bits of pecans or almonds (see trader Joe's). You don't need pricey whole nuts or halves. If you want to be really fancy, toast your nuts in a warm pan for a minute first.
Oatmeal is great with a blob of nut butter swirled in.
Oatmeal is great with cream and fresh berries. I like it with coconut milk and raspberries.
It's great with chocolate chips and cinnamon and butter.
Y'all. Oatmeal is fucking great.
Love yourself and buy the good oatmeal.

Wendy’s Chili!!
Tumblr media
From some digging I was able to find something diabetic friendly to eat at Wendy’s!! My mom always took us to wendy’s in high school and this was my go to! It has low carbs and low sugars! I usually get the small since it can still be filling, but even the large is very good for a fast food place! So if your friends ever want to go to Wendy’s you can join them by getting this! (You can also get onions, cheese, and sour cream on it yum!!) ⸜(。˃ ᵕ ˂ )⸝♡

Gonna start today a low restriction/detox for a couple days! Last time I did it I lost 2kgs in a week. Here's what I'm gonna do so feel free to take inspo:
No eating until I feel very hungry (approximately 4-5 hours after I woke up)
First thing I eat is a protein smoothie full of good nutrients. I usually put too much liquid so I have 2 servings, eat one and a couple hours later when I feel hungry I just drink the other (I usually finish around 4-5p.m)
Peppers filled with a tuna&mayo (pretty low cal even with mayonnaise) for a meal. Just eat one and if hungry later I'll have something else
Some sweet potatoes for carbs
Matcha or coffee lattes because yum yum
Small serving of lentil soup to get those proteins
Long walks or light workout at the gym bc no energy to push those weights lol
I'll try to do a pilate ab wokout everyday to gain definition in my abs
Since I dont eat a lot during the day I still have some calories left for a good desert before sleep 😤🩷
This week gonna try celery juice in the mornings (it has celery, apples, lemon and kiwi)
Cucumber as a snack
Keeping myself busy with house chores and maybe drawing if my depression allows it (I have 0 fcking motivation heeelppp)
I'm pretty sure I forgot some things so if you have any ideas feel free to share I would really appreciate it! 💕🩷

I follow food blogs mainly to look for nice reference photos for food paintings, not for the recipes, which is good because it's really hilarious to see posts tagged like...#ceviche #shrimp ceviche #healthy recipes #low carb #tasty #yum #foodporn #delicious #foodgasm
All under a photo of the most boiled pink supermarket shrimp cocktail looking things with a link to a recipe gushing "I know traditionally ceviche is made with just a citrus marinade, but YUCK! I cook mine :)"

Low-carb New Year’s resolution ✔️… 🤣 but for real, I’m almost happy with the cast iron stovetop sourdough pizza 🤩 one or two more tries should have it mastered! (And our excessive dessert deserved a picture too because… pineapple, icecream, whipped cream, sprinkles and a cherry on top, why not?)#castiron #castironcooking #sourdough #pizza #sourdoughpizza #pineappleonpizza #homesteadlife #offgrid #offgridliving #food #foodporn #foodphotography #yum #yummy #dessert #icecream #whippedcream #hashtagwhore (at Dawson, Yukon Territory) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnOMV9-rb2z/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

hey so like, i hope this is okay to send? but feel free to ignore it if you don't want to answer. i hope this isn't tmi but recently my mom became a single mom and i've been trying to help out more as the oldest, and that includes meals from time to time. my mom usually doesn't have time / energy to try out new things(frozen meals is the usual) and we're definitely on a budget- i found your post from like. two years ago lmao, saying to message if anyone needed any recipes. i don't even follow you or know you but if you had any ideas for stuff i'd really appreciate it! currently we have a lot of beans but tbh take that with a grain of salt because we can totally go out and get other ingredients, its just a matter of 1. making sure it doesn't cost much and 2. her not having to go to the store super often. do you have anything in general you'd suggest? especially with the fact that i'm a beginner in mind? it's also worth mentioning my mom likes to keep a low amount of meat in the house(but it isn't off-limits, just preferred to not be in everything). i dunno it feels super silly but i don't even feel like i know where to start. thanks in advance!
absolutely it's okay to send!' i answered the best i could, but obviously there's SO much more to go into specifically, so please feel free to message me if you have specific questions
but for every meal, i think it's best to keep it simple: protein, carb, vegetable. everything else on top of that is just extra, but at the base, the meal should consist of that. now, breaking it down into those parts:
vegetables
-frozen vegetables - peas, carrots, corn. you can’t tell these even were frozen when you put them in a soup or a casserole
-potatoes are usually cheap, depending on where you are in the world especially russet potatoes, and they can be baked alongside any protein you make.
-this isn’t necessarily on a budget, but ready-to-mix salads are a great option if you’re looking for something healthy and also fast. but those can be a couple dollars a bag. if that’s not an option, a really good idea is buying spinach (it can last at least a week in the fridge if you keep it good and sealed), buy a favorite dressing, and eat that combo for an iron kick. not the most fun thing in the world, but it’s very nutritious. you can even throw a few croutons or dried fruit in there if you can. plus, spinach can be thrown into any canned pasta sauce you get for an extra vegetable - just let it simmer on the stove for a few minutes until the spinach breaks down and gets soft. it’s a pretty versatile green!
-onions are usually affordable and always elevate a dish - just buy the cheapest your grocery store has, and don’t worry if a recipe says a certain kind (like yellow onion vs. red onion). most of the time, in a pinch, it truly doesn’t matter. we’re not aiming for a michelin star here lol
-celery: you can wrap it in tin foil and it'll last a few weeks in the crisper drawer
protein
-you mentioned you have a lot of beans, which is great, because if you don’t want a lot of meat this will provide you with a lot of protein! some ideas are chili (with those frozen veggies), vegetable soup, tacos, simply just rice and beans... they're really versatile!
-chicken thighs, bone-in, is harder to eat but always cheaper. thighs in general are cheaper than chicken breasts, too. if you can swing it, ready-made rotisserie chickens at the grocery store are the easiest to work with - simply cut and serve with rice, pasta, salad... literally anything!
-somtimes you can find discount meats that are about to expire at the grocery store. your freezer is your friend in this case - buy on sale, then freeze for up to 3 months until needed
carb
-rice is THE cheapest carb and can be used with literally anything. there's a variety of rice, all have their own personality, but get whatever is cheapest - you won't notice the difference in recipes, generally
-bread is obviously yum for any dish, especially garlic bread with pasta - cut a baguette or any thick loaf in half and spread some butter and garlic powder on it before throwing it in the oven wrapped in some foil
-pasta pasta pasta!! buy any shapes or sizes. can work with hundreds of dishes
now for random recipes that you can google for the steps or improvise - they're hopefully not too crazy complicated! obviously not a complete list, but enough to hopefully inspire you. they can all be theoretically cooked in under an hour, too.
-chili, potato soup, any baked chicken dish with veggies + a carb, fried rice, pasta with marinara sauce from an jar + side salad, tacos, quesadillas, beans + rice.
-googling "cheap dinners in 30 minutes" will also get you a crazy amount of results!
in terms of grocery shopping, i'd look up the recipes in advance, then make a list. then you can substitute any veggie or protein you want depending on price.
i hope this helps!! good luck:) and feel free to message me again with any specific questions or if you want specific recipes!! i'd be happy to provide links/steps but i didn't want this ask to get too crazy long <3
