Masculine and Non-Feminine Pink Academia

While this is a very "feminine" space, as someone who isn't always a girl (she/they btw!), I understand the struggle of being a non-girl and wanting to find your place among the girlies. Hopefully I have some useul ideas for you, ranging from non-feminine women, men, and nonbinary inspiration.

Characters

Non-Feminine Women - Cady Heron, Mean Girls. I know a character from the girly movies Holy Trinity seems like a weird start, but of course, Cady's journey is one if jumping in too far and losing her tomboyish nature. But, at the end, her style reflects the positive aspects of her journey by being a better-fitting and a little bit more trendy, but the outfit is still just a casual top and jeans which doesn't necessarily have a gendered association. And, of course, she's an iconic academic character as a mathlete.

-Connie Maheswaren, Steven Universe. Connie's style evolves from a pretty billowy dress to a cute button-up and shorts. Connie loves reading, studying, and swordfighting and has a style that can go between masculine and feminine.

-Spinelli, Recess. I'd say most people who know me know that I am the way I am because of the Ashleys, but Spinelli is good inspo too. She's only an academic in secret, but her over-sized t-shirt as a sort-of dress toes the line between gender presentation. It's dress-like, but probably also a hand-me-down from her older brother, and is shapeless enough for the androynous=shapeless trend.

- Elizabeth Bennet, Pride and Prejudice. Even as a fancy lady in the regency era, she's still more likely to be found on romps in the mud, even if that'd be 'most unladylike.' Personally, if I were in charge of a modern interpretation, I think she'd be a dungarees/overalls kind of girl. One of my favourite interpretations is in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries where she's a tech intern.

Men - Nick Young, Crazy Rich Asians. I love a man passionate about his culture, preserving history, and snazzy dressing. Since he's richer than God,he does dress like Daddy's Little Rich Boy, but it's a classic look for a reason.

- Todd Anderson, Dead Poets Society. SO, DPS is a stable of Dark Academia, but I'm borrowing Todd for the Pink girlies because he felt overlooked for most of his life, and then discovered his romantic, poetic side. It feels like a very Pink theme to me.

-Ryan Evans, High School Musical. Ryan and Sharpay had their style game at maximum for all three movies, and Ryan truly is a bright pink-wearing king who co-ordinated down to a hat- the only person who can get away with a fedora, except, like, Perry the Platypus.

Nonbinary Characters - Frankie Stein, Monster High. The new version of Frankie now uses they/them pronouns! Their presentation in the new movie seems to go between feminine and androgynous, and their style is like school uniform punk- related, I think Frankie would totally have the Vivienne Westwood pin.

-Aziraphale and Crowley, Good Omens. In the Good Omens 'verse, angels and demons don't actually have gender, and Aziraphale and Crowley's looks are jut personal to them. Aziraphale has a flamboyant, cream-toned masculine vibe, while Crowley's dark wardrobe changes gender presentation with him. They embody the abolish gender vs make more dynamic.

- Cal, Sex Education. I'm totally late to the Sex Education party, so I don't know much about them, but it is so exciting to see what looks like good rep in a high school setting, because I wish I'd had more of that when I was in school!

Fashion and Presensation

So, the classic PA sillhouette is, of course, the shirt under a jumper, a pink plaid skirt, tights or stockings, pink high heels, and decorate with pearls. Let's see what we can do to make this less stereotypically feminine.

- Plaid trousers/pants exist and are wonderful. An easy find is always a plaid or similar-patterned paperbag trousers- which I think can be used to alter your shape at the hips, if you want to do that. - Longer or more kilt-style skirts tend to have a more gender-neutral or masculine association compared to their shorter counterparts. - Secret trousers!! These are my favourite thing- a pair of trousers/pants that look like a skirt when standing still feels like the best of both worlds to me. -As mentionned with Spinelli, an oversized t-shirt or shirt worn like a dress can create a shapeless, androgynous sillhouette if so disired, or be cynched in with a belt to add another dimension to an outfit.

Incredibly specific tf2 headcanons.

1.medic wanted to become an a a labor and delivery doctor before he decided to take people out of this world before bringing them in. Thinks babies and small.animals are adorable. The reason he has so many doves is because one of them layed eggs right after he got them and he got two attached to give them away.

2.heavy would love the dark academia aesthetic , study vlogs and booktok. I am correct so i will not elaborate.

3.scouts american italian catholic. Again i am correct so i will not be illaborating.

4. Snipers doesn't like people , loves animals though. Would throw someone into an active valcano for yelling in a walmart. thinks that they should have kept harambe alive because its was the kids fault (he is also right everything has gone to shit since that gorilla died)

5.demomans a desendent of the black people in nova scotia who invented hockey.

9.soldier is the silliest goober , got the biggest dorkiest smile on his face by default . end up in the top of trees whenever people dont look at him. Eats whole jars of peanut butter with his hand. Makes a big mwah noise before he kisses demo on the lips goober stuff.

10. Soldier has the strongest trans-dar know to man . "get out of my way tall women" to a preteen whose gonna have some realizations in the 90's. He knows your trans before you know that trans people exist. Is so stereotypically american masculine that time and gender warps around him.

10. Spies biggest secret is that he loves american fast food , the more sodium the better . loves instant ramen noodles and seasoned fries and burgers , the bigger the burger the better honestly. The mercs will get mcdonalds or something and bring him some back and at first he'll act like its beneath him right ? But then he goes to "throw it out" quote unquote and consumes whatever it is like a ravenous animal , big mac sauce end up in his hair and its gone in seconds. He the rearranges himself and acts like he's just done a line of coke but doesn't want anyone to find out

Lol your style is the complete opposite of your selection of image which is the red necklace. It’s funny but let’s talk about what you look really good in. Ok so you are my simple 90’s minimalist chic girlies.

You look best in black but your other wardrobe faves could be denim, white, tan, grey and light blue. Your black/tan statement flat or mules go with just any outfit so keep wearing them. I see you have the masculine boss look to you which is again ironical with the pic you’ve chosen (I’m sorry, i don’t want to sound like a broken tape recorder but you get it, right?). Your black bodysuit looks really nice with tan trousers. Your oversized blazer enhances your style even more. I get that people love your choice in handbags, sling bags etc. You can still wear your white shoes everywhere, it goes with everything.

You accessories your outfit less, one ring , a bracelet and a watch does the job on most days for you (which is a lot for you ik). Your hair looks best when you leave them as they are and don’t fret over it being perfect and neat from all sides. You look tamed even with wild hair so don’t stress about it.

Colourful trendy/ oh so miss perfect 🧸🛍

You like solid colour outfits and co-ord sets. You have a light and warmth to your fashion. It’s breezy, flowy and one feels bright when they look at you. You have a thing for light shades.

You look so hot if you wear turquoise liner to your eyes. You have a good sense of eye make up. You look your best in off-white and cream coloured shades. Coral, rust, latte and peach; shades of sunsets at a beach kind. You look feminine and in your power in midi dresses or tucked tops and midi skirts. Turtle neck tops and parallel trousers/ short skirts with belt accentuates your lean figure and you look taller.

You should wear heels often, it looks good on you. I don’t feel you are much of an accessory fan may be just a classy earring, also I think you don’t need accessories since your make up holds all the glamour. Instead I get you are more into hair accessories like hair scarves and hats. You understand your style very well so I don’t need to say anything more.

The hippie baby/ colourful vintage 🎨 🗝

Colourful butterflies or should I say vibrant chameleons ( not in a bad way,I just feel whatever you wear , that colour looks good on you). I get aquatic kind of neon colours, something that catches the eye. You wear colours related to water, wellness and nature.

You look best in pink-orange colours and light blue- dark blue colours, shades of sea and candy pink. You look best in patterned clothes which have a boho edge. You look elegant and put together in skirts with crop tops and even an oversized jumpsuit. I don’t get any specific styles that you look best in because you have many styles, your mood reflects in your outfits and you like to dress accordingly. Though you could look great in floral patterned clothes, beach prints and abstract arts.

You are into accessories, you match your bags, footwear and glasses accordingly. You could like to wear rings in all fingers and if you don’t then you should try it, I feel it will make you more chic even if you choose to dress lazily.

Boss chic/ Flashlight on you 🔦 📸

You have Capricorn placements? A prominent mercury or a moon sign. You are a fashionista and have the model look,no matter your size, right, colour or hair texture. You have a look that turns people’s head. Your colours are silver, gold, purple, blue , yellow and red.

You look best in striped tucked button up shirt and dark blue jeans. You can have shoulder length hair and it looks exquisite. You can even wear a gold pendant or chain frequently or always which make you look dapper and elite. Your aura is really surreal with specs of silver and gold making you look beautiful.

You should wear boots often because that will accentuate your outfit. Try a kimono if you haven’t or leave your shirt unbuttoned and wear a vest underneath. Also a crystal ring or crystal bracelet covered in some metal will suit you. You look hot in two piece sets too.

Travel beauty/ ‘Who is that charming girl ?’ They say 🤳💅🏼

You are a true beauty even when you feel you look homeless. You have the, ‘who is that girl?’ Look, especially at airports and in grocery stores or even the girl who just passed by. You remind me of the meme where a guy who is with a girl has turned his head to look at the other girl lol. Your social media got many stalkers too haha.

You look the best in all white but if you want colours then wear a black top and red skirt with pencil heels. I also see that you look best in brown and black. You have an air of innocence in your dressing style which is draws in people like bees to honey.

For accessories your would look nice in caps, sunglasses, a watch but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to wear jewellery, you can wear earrings and necklaces but I just feel you look pretty in simple styles with light make up and branded high quality clothes.

Ancient witch / mythological goddess 🪄

You have a traditional look to you. You look gorgeous in your ethnic clothes or from the culture you belong to. I feel when you dress up in your social standings, you stand out. Then when you wear casual clothes for regular days people are taken aback by your transformation because one minute you looked so transitional and next you look like a model posing for brands in pictures.

You look best in traditional outfits as mentioned before, besides that you look really cute like kittens in dresses. You look pretty in sleeveless tops and relaxed fit straight jeans. Even a beach resort shirt with a sports vest and cargo pants. You look best when you have a sporty vibe to your personality.

You should leave your hair open mostly and a pair of earrings in accessories will accentuate your outfit enough to make you look just enough. Colours like orange and yellow look good on you too.

Fairy in the forest 🧚🏻 / Invisible crown Queen 👑

For some reason I feel that people find you unreal and unique in your fashion. You give off the severity vibes with the way you dress that people feel they’ve encountered a beautiful garden where there are many flowers and greenery.

You look best in pastel/nude colours and especially floral prints. You should wear the nude pink dress with little floral prints, even I feel enchanted by your presence. Even fur clothes make you look attractive.

For accessories, you should wear pearls because it will give you the moon glow and go well with your pastel outfits. If you have been feeling like colouring your hair then take this sign as a yes you can and also don’t cut your hair short. Your hair holds all the beauty.

Mermaid around the corals 🪸 / Angelic Baby👼

You look so sweet and dreamy. You look beautiful in shimmery clothes or see through tops. Crochet knit tops, trousers and skirts.

You should incorporate more of shiny pinks and turquoise colours in your wardrobe. Also purple is your colour. Clothes with shells or accessories with shells will enhance your personality

Stop being shy and dress as you wish girl. I feel you hesitate a lot in dressing authentically. Embrace your ethereal beauty, stop being the mermaid who hides in the abyss of darkness to protect herself from intruders. You can look beautiful and still be in limelight, please don’t shy away.

You look best in everything because all your clothes screams money and let’s admit, expensive clothes look good on everyone. Your silver dress, silver boots with silver earrings will look best just in case you ever felt confused about what to wear.

Don’t forget to paint your nails red because you are the classy and elite chickkkk. Always and I mean always wear necklaces and a heavy ring because they are meant to be shown off and not to be kept in drawers.

PA fashion for men and enbys!

Here’s an expansion on the fashion part of my post on masc/non-feminine Pink Academia! As I said in that post, the pink academic uniform is a white blouse, a jumper/cardigan/sweater vest, a pink skirt, stockings, pink high heels, and pearl accesories. She’s cute, she’s stunning, she’s flawless, but she’s not for everyone- even everyone who wants to be a pink academic inside and out.

Tops- a white shirt under a jumper is inherently non-gendered, as my co-ed uniformed girlies know. A shirt under a cardigan, jumper, or sweater vest will look good regardless of gender. Waistcoats are also divine! *a really weird note on blazers: while they’re totally gender-neutral, there’s a weird thing in uniforms, at least where I’m from where the boys’ blazers had a slit to allow easier access to pockets because “boys put there hands in their pockets more…” I don’t know how true that is, because I personally have no idea what to do with my hands if they’re not in my pockets BUT if it helps you feel more masc and PA, then its an idea.

Bottoms- 1. Anyone regardless of gender can wear skirts, and if this is a hill I have to die on, then so be it. That said, it can feel too feminine to wear a little pink miniskirt so an option is a longer skirt or a kilt-inspired cut helps in my opinion. A wider, lower-waisted skirt is more likely to hide your hips, if you’re trying to look more masculine. The opposite is therefore true too in my experience, with something high-waisted with lots of volume adding more of an hourglass shape, or bodycon emphasising the hips.

You can find jeans and trousers in bright patterns and colours. Plaid trousers strike a fun balance between pink academia and a punk influence! As with skirts, you can also emphasise or hide your hips as you’d prefer with the waistband of trousers. You can also try the paper-bag style which, low-slung on a masculine body, can create the illusion of wider hips.

Secret Trousers! These things are divine. If you’re wondering what the hell to search to find them, you can try: palazzo pants, culottes, skorts, or the creatively named skirt-pants

Dresses- On the list of hills I would die on is dresses not only are gender-neutral, but can be masculine. To me, the way to make things more neutral or masculine, is to consider the shapes that you want to create. If you want to hide your hips, for example, you’ll need something looser or more square that will help in that area; if you want to create the illusion of wider hips, then, you’ll need to emphasise your waist and create width at where your widest point should be. You can try long, over-sized t-shirts, or a baggier ‘fit. Maybe an empire style would help because of the way it graces the curves below the bust line. On that note, you’ll need to know your own chest to know what shapes you’re comfortable with.

You can also contrast it with something considered more masculine in order to neutralise the femininity of a dress. The most obvious example is a men’s blazer because the cut tends to be boxier.

“Is the trans movement anti-gay?” In honor of Pride Month, Peter Boghossian begins this conversation with an investigation into the increasing rejection of trans ideology by the LGB (without the T) community. Peter’s guest is Andrew Doyle, acclaimed author, comedian, and host of Free Speech Nation on GB News. Here’s an important piece of information to better understand this conversation: Andrew is gay. Peter Boghossian: Is the trans movement anti-gay?

Andrew Doyle: In its current manifestation, yes. So, not trans people are anti-gay, but the predominant cheerleaders of trans activism in its most extreme form are most definitely anti-gay. Because the movement at present -- and it wasn't always this way, only over the past five, six years -- is now completely underpinned by the notion of gender identity ideology.

The concept of gender identity is a difficult one because no one ever defines it, least of all the activists themselves. The best we can come to is a kind of feeling, a kind of sense, of who you are and a sense of an authentic self.

Helen Joyce in her book "Trans: When Ideology Meets Reality," describes it as something akin to a sexed soul, which actually is very close to what certain trans activists have described it as. So, because it's not really pinned down definitionally, what we get, the most useful way of thinking about it is is that sense of self within, which is gendered. And whenever you try to get people to define it, they will say things like "I am a woman because I feel like a woman," which leads to a subsequent question, "but what is a woman," and then it's "whoever defines themselves as a woman," so we're in the realm of identity politics.

But gender identity ideology effectively is about ensuring that gender, as in the concepts of masculinity and femininity and stereotypical behaviors of what it means to be male and female, that those things are prioritized over biological sex.

And you even have, of course, activists again on the extreme side, who now pushed for the idea that not only is gender socially constructed, as in boys wear blue and girls wear pink - well there's nothing innate about that, is there - so there are certain modes of behavior that men and women have that are certainly socially constructed, there are others that are rooted in biology. But there's a great deal that is to do with social constructs.

But some activists will now say that even biological sex itself is a social construct. There's no really authentic way -- they've been saying that for many decades by the way, you've had voices in academia saying that for a long long time, even when I was at University, so there's nothing new about that; it's not true and it's never been true -- but it's now taken hold in society as though it is.

Peter: So, two things. One throwaway: one of the fake papers that Jim and I wrote, we titled it "Pre-epistemic Transgenderism." Since gender is a social construct and sex is a social construct -- this is so the argument goes -- no one ever truly knows their gender until after they've transitioned right, if we just remove the genitals from everybody, or if we just allow them to -- I can't remember what age it was -- you know at 12, they would transition, then they would know if that was a good thing or not. Yeah, pre-epistemic transgenderism.

So, what is anti-gay?

Andrew: Right, so that's the -- you asked whether it was anti-gay and I didn't really explain that.

So, the reason why it's anti-gay is because gay rights were secured through the recognition that there were always in any given society and culture a minority of individuals who are innately attracted to members of their own sex.

The debate about how that develops within individuals, that's a bigger debate and it's nothing to do with this. The fact is that there are a minority of people who are instinctively, innately attracted to members of their own sex. And that gay rights were secured by getting people to understand that.

Now you have groups like Stonewall, who's the UK's foremost LGBT charity, redefining the word homosexual to mean "same gender attracted."

That's not what it means. It's not homogendered, it's homosexual. It's people being attracted -- so a gay man isn't attracted to someone who identifies as a man they're attracted to men. Similarly, lesbians are attracted...

Peter: So, I just need to disambiguate. They're attracted to, and I'm trying to think about -- there's just no other way to say this without being vulgar. So, I'll put it on myself -- heterosexual is attracted to a natal woman or a person with a vagina.

Andrew: Right.

Peter: A gay person is attracted to a man that is in a natal, a biological -- someone born biologically male with a penis.

Andrew: Quite. But you see, extreme trans activists will twist that and say well, why are you obsessed with genitals, and they will then say that genital preferences are transphobic. But of course, you're not solely attracted to genitals. That is of course a part of the whole, part of everything that you are attracted to.

The idea that you're attracted to how someone perceives themselves doesn't make any sense whatsoever in terms of sexual attraction.

And it gets worse than that. Because Stonewall not only redefine the term, but then you have the CEO of Stonewall, Nancy Kelley, comparing lesbians who don't want to date people with penises, comparing them to "sexual racists," saying that if you're writing off whole groups of people, a whole demographic out of your dating pool, you want to examine your prejudice and you want to examine where that bigotry came from.

But a lesbian writing off men from a dating pool isn't bigotry, it's homosexuality. So it's very, very serious when effectively the whole precept of of homosexual rights has been drawn away, taken away.

And you've even got trans activists now who talk about how lesbians who don't want to sleep with someone who identifies as a woman but has a penis, that they are suffering from some kind of trauma. That's the phrase they use. They say this is an example of trauma.

And of course that's -- I mean the WHO perceived homosexuality to be a mental disorder as late as 1990. That's what they used to say to gay people, you're suffering from some kind of trauma , you're suffering some from some kind of mental illness. You're a gay boy so all you need to do is find the right girl. Or vice versa. And that's exactly what trans activists are saying.

Now there was a website called Woke Homophobia which collected thousands and thousands and thousands of screenshots of trans activists attacking gay people. The website has since been deleted, which is a shame that no one archived it, because people don't believe this. But there are, it's not just one or two people on Twitter. There are thousands of these people using the kind of language that I haven't seen since the 80s about gay people, talking about faggots, about how AIDS was a good thing, gay people should die.

I did a tweet the other day which was, it was a monologue that I did on my show about the pride flag. [..] And I put out a thing about how pride no longer represents gay people.

I got attacked from both the right and the left, or at least people who identify as right and left, I should qualify. I got attacked by outright right-wing reactionary homophobes calling me a sodomite, you know, saying that it is degraded you know, degeneracy is the word they like to use they also use. Like to spell the word "return" with a V instead of a u to invoke in Roman numerals this idea of this Grand Roman tradition. Believe me, if they went back to Rome they might not like it. But anyway, so those idiots you know you just block and move on.

And then similarly, I was being attacked by gender ideologues who identify as being on the left. Their responses were slightly worse because I had two of them saying I should kill myself, calling me a cis gay, saying cis gays like this should kill themselves, and another one called me a faggot, and that was coming from someone who says they're left wing.

Now that -- I've never heard that kind of language, not since I was a small child. It's sort of been out of our society for about 15 years that kind of stuff. But now that kind of virulent homophobia is coming from trans activists.

Peter: So, why are they calling you, what, why are they, why?

Andrew: Because they fundamentally believe that to be gay is transphobic. They don't say it that way, but what they are saying is that if you are writing off -- if I as a male and writing off women who identify as men okay then I am transphobic.
