James' opinions on the other creeps/proxies p.1
"Toby, hm? He's alright. It took some time for him to open up a bit and actually indulge in conversations but I appreciate him nevertheless....However it is quite unfortunate how much of a trained guard dog he is though, for the Slenderman I mean.....Barking and biting at anything, almost as if the entire world were a threat to him......But I've seen more sides of him, he can be very pleasant to be around. Sometimes he just talks about the most random things but I like that, it makes me smile.....I do hope that he'll get better and that he'll start to actually start to live and not just survive. Oh well, he'll eventually figure things out on his own, the only thing I can do is to stay beside him."
"Jack is actually a very sweet and kind soul, it was quite the surprise to be completely honest. We talk a lot about life, art and books, he's like a lost shard of my soul in a way.....I like being around him, he makes me feel comfortable."
"Oh, that girl? Natalie is alright, a bit stubborn and quiet but very nice once you talk more. I like her drawings, they interest me.....She hangs a lot around Nina and Toby, right? Well I guess I like her, she seems nice.....Tough young woman, that's for sure..."
"Nina is like a beaming ball of sunshine from what I know and I appreciate her for that. She often just talks to me about all kinds of things and I actively listen to what she is saying.......Like listening to a podcast......Oh, and her sense of fashion is absolutely gorgeous."
".....Hm....Well, we don't talk a lot, Kate and me I mean. But Nina often rambles on and on about her.....Maybe she's into Kate..?....Well, in any way, she doesn't talk much and neither do I but I never had any bad experiences with her."
"Oh, Sally! Yeah, she's a sweet girl but oh god, she has some really bad temper management issues. It's fascinating how much rage and despise is stored inside such a young soul......Scary in some way.......But we get along great, we also live in the same territory of the woods. She's like a little sister to me."
"Brian and Tim...?......Oh those two proxies...I haven't talked to them all that much but they seem okay. Toby sometimes talks about them, annoyed how they act so 'authoritarian'.......But, isn't the Slenderman more authoritarian than Brian and Tim? So why does Toby do whatever it makes him do yet gets all pissy when his two colleagues need something from him?.....Weird...."

tumblr user crushedsweets i am here to ask you another question about toby nat and nina. if nina was able to convince them into having a sleepover, how do you think it would go. what games would they play? what snacks would they make? who would inevitably wind up passing out on the floor with the other two comfortable on the bed? who would fall asleep first? i love them so much and i love your hcs for them
tumblr user anon i am here to cry because this is the perfect ask.... ok im starting now. this is mostly nina-centric cuz toby and nat are just following along. much more playful type headcanons
ok. ok.
toby would totally let nina and nat stay the night at his cabin if the other proxies were gone, he wouldn't need much convincing cuz nat already stays over a lot and ninas ... sweet enough. but in that case he wouldn't let them do any sleepover type stuff bc 'its my house im not watching twilight' (twilight reminds him of lyra). it wouldnt really be a fun sleepover or anything, but they'd bake cookies or something with nina for sure. prob got high/drunk too
now for more cutesy less edgy stuff...... i will be babygirlifying them all for these hcs... sorry not sorry. not canon to creeped(MAYBE).
BUT she'd definitely have to do more coaxing to get toby to come to her apartment. she lives in the city and that's not really his thing, but nat works over there so it's whatever to her.
assuming jeff is gone (only way tobys coming over), nina would be so cute about it. she'd have a blow up mattress set up in the living room, brought several bags of different candies and chips, put up random fairy lights, lit some candles so it smells sweet. her apartment is usually a little messy cuz she's a busy girl but for them . . she cleaned.
i could see nina being a really touchy person, constantly hooking arms with people and hugging them and playing with peoples fingers and stuff. it would take toby and nat forever to get used to it bc its admittedly kinda weird and invades personal space but she's so genuine with it and sweet and like :D theyre like OKAY FINE . so they'd just be walking around doing whatever and nina would pop up grabbing them like 'what r u doing in my kitchen :) the movies still playing :) youre missing the climax :) theres food out there :) youre making me mad :)'. or sitting watching a movie n she dozes off on their shoulder. etc.
nina would be swapping movies between things like 'to all the boys ive ever loved' to like... saw. oddly enough nat and toby are more likely to sit still and watch the romcoms just cuz they get invested in the plot ... LMFAO
i cant see nina actually getting them to play any sleepover games, BUT she'd hook up a switch. she'd try to play smth like overcooked with them but they rage too fucking hard and she has to swap to like. a mario game.
ok maybe she could get them to play like 2 rounds of truth or dare or never have i ever.
nat would like sour and hard candy... toby would like chocolate candy and baked stuff.... so nina would get the candy together and make them all bake some brownies.
she'd also make them make normal sugar cookies and try to decorate them but toby would make the ugliest fucking cookie possible and give up and let the girls decorate.
realistically nat and nina would end up on the air mattress and toby on the couch, BUT if they were stuck with just a bed, toby would take the floor. he'd offer cuz he's not about to share a bed with either of them.. but he'd prob wake up with nina on the floor too cuz nat KICKS in her sleep. nina curls up like a cat
nina falls asleep first. toby falls asleep last.
nina would try to convince them to let her do their makeup but toby would get irritated that she'd even ask. .
she'd defintely make them do skincare with her though .. nina uses snail mucin and the other two think she's weird.
the next morning ninas awake first and making pancakes. she walks away to go to the bathroom and gets distracted by washing her face and doing her hair and stuff and burns them so bad it wakes toby up... he comes in and turns off the stove and just waits for her to come back to call her dumb.
nat wakes up last and is so disorientated for like 30 mins after waking up... she just eats the food like a zombie until nina makes her wash her face again and shes up properly.
she'd try to get them to stay as long as possible, but theyre exhausted and as sweet as nina is, she's a bit much . . so they go home LOL. but nina would send them the cutest little "thank u for coming over i had fun i love u guys :3" text the next day and theyll feel kinda bad for leaving.
nina is just such a genuinely nice girl .... she just wants to live the teenage dream well into her 20s because she was um. Um. she behaved in a way. that um. highschool was not the most pleasant. and threw many of her teen years away for Um. a man. of sorts.

the river’s daughter | chapter 1: Nina
Tumblr media
In the woods somewhere sat a little girl no more than 13 years old. Her calloused hands were wrapped around an empty jug of water. Her hair was unkept and her lips cracked. She had spent a little over a month hiding from place to place, alone, with no knowledge of hunting or gathering clean water. She already cleared out most of the houses and shops around the city, her luck would soon run out.
From the very first day of the fall her sister kept her alive. She was the one who protected her. She was the strong one, not her. She wouldn’t have been starving to death if they had not taken her.
She was gone not dead, she reminded herself. In the five weeks after, she didn’t dare shed a single tear, not when she knew her sister was out there. She hoped she was out looking for her too.
She paused, feeling a lump in her throat, letting a single tear slip down her cheek.
Hope was dangerous. In her head she begged herself not to cry, even imagining her mother scolding her for doing so. However it seemed like the harder she tried to stop herself, tears began flooding her eyes.
She angrily wiped her face clean. Her eyes tightened shut as her fingers pressed against the ground, digging her nails deep into the dirt.
It was now where she began to realize, no one was coming for her. To her, it felt better giving up, stay there watching the trees change color as she rotted away.
A small crack of two branches alerted the girl to turn around, locking eyes with a strange man holding what looked like a mechanical bow, aimed right at her forehead. She stood up, wiping her nose and face once again.
The man flinched a bit, searching the girl’s movements. The girl stayed put as he slowly lowered his weapon. He noticed her worn out clothes and bruised knees. She didn’t scream, run off, or even seem slightly scared at a random man threatening her in the middle of the woods.
“You bit?” He asked.
The girl shook her head and the man stared back for a moment before looking behind him.
“You alone?”
This time the girl nodded and he let out a deep sigh. He looked at her for a long moment, she questioned if he was planning on hurting her, he wasn’t like that but of course, she didn’t know that.
“I’ve got some people I gotta get back to.” He said. He thought it unnecessary to interrogate a girl that looked like she would pass out at any moment. It was very clear she wasn’t lying, at least about being alone. He could tell she had been crying.
She watched him place his bow onto his back and turn to walk away. He wasn’t just going to leave her to die right? She needed his help, he knew that.
“Stay close if you’re followin’ me.” He replied just after cursing under his breath.
He was right. She already had plans of following him, it didn’t matter if he was a bad man like her sister told her about. It was worth a try. There was also the possibility that he was the same man that took her sister away. If she was right and she followed this man, she could see her again.
The girl stood still for a second, looking towards the man, seeing him fade out into the woods. She took a long breath before walking in his direction.
They kept a generous distance away from each other, and this gave her a chance to really look at the strange man. His hair was long and dark, his arms ridden with scars and dirt. He looked and sounded like a redneck. This made her laugh a bit, she remembered watching those stupid country reality shows at the hotels her family would stay at when her mom would come to the U.S for business events. She missed London.
He looked back at her and she stopped smiling, almost forgetting she didn’t know this man. He thought the same thing as he remembered his group. It had been long enough to tell if she was bit so he didn’t feel all that worried. The only bad thing is how they would react to him bringing in a 13 year old girl instead of the water they needed.
That was something he stoped to think about, she was just a girl. Who knows how long she’d been out there, what mattered was that she survived.
They walked for a long while, until the growls of her stomach annoyed him enough to stop. The man kneeled down and dug into the dirt. A few seconds later he reached over to her, holding a small earthworm. She gave him a blank stare, no way he wanted her to put that in her mouth.
She shook her head but he didn’t move away. She already had trouble eating canned dog food no way she would eat a worm.
“You’re hungry.” He insisted.
She was starving, it would just take her another level of starvation to eat a living thing. She shook her head once more.
He wasn’t going to ask her again so he just ate it himself. She took a step back and he wiped the dirt off his hands as he stood back up.
“C’mon let’s keep walkin’.” He said, ignoring her disgust. She would follow him nonetheless.
The sun was hot, she wondered how long they needed to walk before she would pass out.
“Daryl?” A woman’s voice called out, as she and another girl emerged from the trees.
The young girl quickly hid behind the man.
“Who’s she?” One asked, her voice stern and clear, as the other pointed her gun.
Daryl looked back, watching as the girl turned red.
“Found her in the woods, she’s dehydrated…and starving.” He began, “Couldn’t leave her.”
The first woman’s expression didn’t change. She nodded, before muttering a soft okay and telling the other girl to lower her weapon. The three talked for a bit, mostly about water and food. The names, Maggie and Sasha were exchanged which she understood them to be the girls’.
“You think Rick would be okay with taking her in?” Sasha asked him.
He shrugged, rubbing his face, “Does it matter?”
She didn’t respond, looking over at the girl.
“It’s getting late.” He said, walking away.
The rest of the walk was silent, The only sound being their footsteps and grunts of decaying walkers. Every step it seemed like she would collapse, to her relief, a street could be seen in the distance.
He was right, his group were just half way down the road.
“Oh, shit.” Maggie sighed, “It’s been a day and a half, they didn’t find any either.”
“How do you know?” Sasha asked.
Maggie took a breath, “I know.”
The little girl trailed behind them, looking worse than before.
“How long we got?” Maggie turned to look at Sasha.
“60 Miles.” She replied.
Maggie shook her head, “I wasn’t talking about that.”
The girl swallowed her saliva in attempt to help her dry mouth. She looked at the people in front of her. They were truly just as fucked as she was.

Tekken — Random thoughts
Tumblr media
Okay, but Nina and Jin in Tekken 6? I simply love them. Tekken 6 gave (not just me but some other people too) the foundation for an amazing ship.
A respectful relationship that started with work, and the Scenario Campaign showed their closeness and confidence, without losing their professionalism and focus on Jin's goal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Story-wise, Tekken 6 is… interesting, to say the least. I don't know, I still have mixed feelings about the direction they gave Jin's development and what he was like since Tekken 3.
I can't say that I like that in Tekken 6 he became a war criminal and did such aberrations, when Azazel's problem could have been addressed in another way; because actually, I don't like it at all.
But on the other hand, I don't totally hate the concept itself. I just find it a little hard to digest.
What I can save (or at least try to) is that, from a personal opinion, I don't think he did it because it's the destiny of bearers of Mishima blood to be corrupted. Because, in fact, I don't think Jin was corrupted by having Mishima blood or by the influence of the Devil Gene.
I think he did everything out of his conscience. A twisted, fucked up and terrible way of doing things, but by conscience at the end. Because if we go to the fact, he always struggled and fought against the influence of the curse, and tried to keep it at bay as much as he could (in despite of his T3 and T4 endings, in T5 vs. Hwoarang, in T7 in the desert)… well, in the end of Scenario Campaign we could see how Jin consciously used the power of the Devil Gene (without turning into Devil) to defeat Azazel.
It's a bummer that they "ruined" Jin like that, but it was an interesting chapter in Tekken history.
Anyway, before starting to wander more than necessary… I know that Tekken: Blood Vengeance and the Tekken Comic by Titan Comics aren't canon either, but Nina and Jin roles in each one are a good addition for this dreamy ship (especially in the comics).
Tumblr media
And no, my point isn't that the base of the ship has to be that the woman has to do the whole work and being his support 24/7 (a thing that usually happens in the Japanese culture: the female character being just a bland sidekick with no depth and the protagonist's love interest; just as in mostly of shonens, for example), or because it's just the job she was hired for… But because both of them could relate to each other: both suffering child abuse from a close family member, both having family members they dislike, both having lost a family member they loved, both having suffered and survived Ogre's attack, and both having a mostly lonely path in life… because they know they're not the best company and their methods are very questionable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Feelings aren't part of their lifestyle and not allowing themselves to open their hearts (because having feelings means their goals be compromised), is a fact. And it's a fact that a ship like this will never happen in canon, yet I always loved their genuine mutual trust and respect. It's far away from the Japanese culture's typical cliché of the badass lonely boy and the cute submissive girl who has a huge crush on him, is ghosted during most of the series and wants to "save" him but just meddles, resulting annoying most of times. It reminds me to someone… Wait!!
Alright, speaking more seriously now… Tekken 6 turned 14 years some days ago (especifically for PS3 and XBox, on October 30th), and this was a good opportunity to talk about an underestimated and unapreciated OTP.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm very intrigued about what's going to happen in Tekken 8, and the path of both of them when Bamco already revealed the roster's bios. Nina working for Kazuya doesn't make sense if we take into account her relationship with Jin during Tekken 6, the fact that she failed on purpose for Lars and Lee to protect Jin from Heihachi and... taking as bonus the non-canonical comics and BV.
Possibly developers will take the path of Street Fighter x Tekken's story? Nina working with Kazuya but undercover, for Jin's instructions? Because no one can deny how amazing was Jin trusting someone since the beginning, spending time with that someone and being able to share thoughts... even if it's just professionaly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
P.s.: I feel the luckiest guy alive, since I have the privilege of writing this wonderful ship on Twitter... I mean, X. My dearest friend @carade0jete and I roleplay as Nina and Jin, respectively, since almost five years. An amazing journey that still goes on and will last until that app is either ruined or closed by El*n M*sk. Love you, bb. ♥️✨

can you please in extreme detail describe all of your ocs to me and their story if they have one so i can understand all of your oc posts
so im gonna do like a general summary and then under the cut will be the longer stuff ok 💙💙 okay
so the idea is essentially this magical world with all this crazy stuff happeing all the time and all these people with crazy powers and as a result the concept of superheroes are kind of made into a sport! Kasey, the peppy teen hero, and her family (aja(the tough quiet one), hutch(the funny dad one), and victor(the smarg inventor one)) are a brand-new hero team funded by this rich old man trying to build himself a cool legacy. Nina, kaseys rival, is a teenage demon employed by the villain Arkangel, who is using the games to accrue power and resources for her own mysterious plans. ok? ok.
BE WARNED THERE ARE 4500 WORDS UNDER THE CUT
soooooooo character by character breakdowns:
kasey:
Tumblr media
the protagonist and my special little girl, Kasey is a 14 year old girl with incredible yet unpredictable powers who dreams of being a great hero! She's peppy and athletic and super excitable, though due to her reclusive upbringing she's not super socially in-tune. her heroic persona is Wildcard, her gimmick is playing cards, and her powers include teleportation, enhanced speed and senses, limited flight, glow-in-the-dark freckles, and a large variety of seemingly random abilities.
hutch:
Tumblr media
kaseys dad and ajas wife, Hutch is a pretty chronically normalguy. when they were younger they dreamed of being a famous musician, but these days theyre just trying to be a supportive parent, which apparently includes dressing up in funny costumes and fighting evildoers these days, and thats fine. they're kind of an anxious guy whose happiest when theyre working on something with their hands, wether thats cooking, playing music, or working on their old pickup truck. idk their hero name yet but their costume is going to be cowboy themed and theyre going to essentially be the bard of the group. no natural powers, except their hair, which gets pinker when theyre in a good mood.
victor:
Tumblr media
resident mad scientist working as a tech guy for kirby (aforementioned rich old man that runs the team), victor likes to work on magitech and fancies himself probably the greatest wizard to ever live, ever. spends most of his time in his workshop building gear for the team and working on one of his dozens of pet projects. He's a shit communicator and arrogant as all hell, is prickly and generally bad at interacting with others, though hes genuinely very intelligent, well-intentioned, and often very high-energy when it comes to his work. And don't tell anybody this, but he's also technically undead, and on a sensitive parole with the "gods" due to his tendency to get fucky with the natural order of things. he's essentially working on borrowed time, with a lot of dubious machinery just barely keeping his body from completely rotting away. His greatest accomplishment, though, will always be aja.
aja:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
my best friend and the most important girl in the world ^^^^ kaseys mom and the second most enthusiastic about this whole superhero thing. not alive nor dead but a special third thing. a tendency to get overwhelmed by her emotions has led her to be a pretty reclusive, quiet person. a little mopey and pretentious, she likes literature, photograohy, and sorting her cassette collection. she's also the most efficient in a fight, as shes kind of been using martial arts and that kind of stuff as a sort of therapy for most of her life, she likes the feeling of being in tune with her body and the amount of self-control that comes with it. she adores her wife and daughter, and has a bit of a contentious relationship with victor - though she wants to be closer with him, the gap between them caused by their past feels a bit insurmountable for them both.
as for the villains, mainly we have
arkangel:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
arkangel was, a very very long time ago, a human alchemist and magican studying the Grand Cosmos, the realm of what are believed to be the gods. When plague struck and, despite her prayers, killed her young daughter, she swore to tear her way into the cosmos and bring her daughter back to the world of the living. That mission has not gone so well, and centuries upon centuries later Arkangel has lost the plot a bit, her magics able to preserve her body at the expense of her mind and soul, and in-between cartoonishly evil shenanigans she's orchestrating a plot to bring down the cosmos entirely. Despite her tendency towards nonsense and general gullibility, Arkangel is a sharp and often cruel woman who holds those in her employ under high standards with little regard for the opinions of anyone except herself.
nina:
Tumblr media
known primarily by her villain name Prophet, nishkanona prorok is a teenage demon, having used a pact with Arkangel to escape hell and a doting, yet overprotective father to live out her edgy teenage punk years smashing shit and swinging cool swords around. eager to prove her abilities, Nina was involved one of arkangels many attempts to destroy the world, this one in particular involving drawing on an ancient and mysterious power known as the Comet to open a gateway to the cosmos and release the Judge, a massive cosmopolitan beast said to be the only thing capable of destroying an entire realm. the process failed, and the intense strain of using her body as the gateway injured her significantly. Her desperation to prove herself, combined with Arkangels refusal to accept failure, have refused to let the injury heal and given Nina a pretty major dent in her pride coming into her second season as a competitor.
morningstar/luci:
Tumblr media
the luc1-4 project is an experimental copycat AI designed to mimic an opponents strategy and siphon their powers through the nodes on its palms, and was used as Arkangel's primary footsoldier and representative before Nina's arrival left it obsolete, and it remained in storage, only acknowledged for training excercises or occassional maitenence. That is, until Nina abandons Arkangel, and Morningstar is needed once more. but years of sitting in the dark have left it resentful and beginning to question its true purpose in this world.
THOSE ARE ALL THE MAJOR CHARACTERS I HAVE DEVELOPED RN...theres a few more late-game villains and supporting cast members i want to flesh out and some worldbuilding stuff i want to explore more.
AS FOR THE PLOT. well. its all a bit vague but i have the general structure so lets lay it out!
starting out in the status quo with K/A/H going about their daily lives in the quaint small texas town they live in when kasey gets a letter in the mail inviting her to professional league of heroics and villany (note: im gonna try and come up with a catchier name but im bad at names) tryouts in New york city in response to her video audition (i think it would b cute to have the opening pages be her video audition but idk). ANYWAYS obviously they go and they do tryouts, and kaseys nervous but she does okay, but every time she needs to use one of her powers on command she just cant quite get them to cooperate and most of the teams there write her off as not pro potential. except for this weird old man, stanley kirby, who is trying to scrape together a hero team with his legacy money. see, his granddad managed an incredibly famous and successful team, but when he died kirbys father didnt see the business as worth the cost and shut it all down, and kirby wants to revive that legacy. problem is, hes never done anything successfully on his own in his life and nobody has faith in him. but he has money, and he offers to take kasey on if her family comes along to round out the team because literally nobody else wants to work with him. They agree, and when theyre touring the facility discover that victor, ajas estranged father, actually works for kirby, as kirby throws money at any project victor wants in exchange for v developing any inane comic book tech project kirby sets his heart on. aja lies and tells kasey victor is her brother, mostly because she isnt sure how to explain the. complicated history between them. more on that later. anyways, kirby cajoles victor into agreeing to be on the team because you need a 4-person team to be eligible for the maximum amount of events possible. so theyre all working together yippieeeee.
a few months pass and they do qualifiers, a team-based event that decides the rank you start the season in, and due to shoddy teamwork and general inexperience team kirby comes dead last. thats okay, theyll figure it out! the first event of the season is the opening tournament, one-on-one hero v villain brackets to show the audience and judges what youre made of. see, heroism and villany are judged on a combination of skill and style. theres gotta be balance between being a good fighter and a good performer, flashy combos, witty banter, and showstopping signature moves are the kind of thing people come here for (think fighting game-esque). victor goes in the first round and completely wipes his opponent, knocking them out of the ring in two seconds flat by cutting them off in the middle of an opening monologue. despite winning and winning efficiently, victor gets a shit score because there was absolutely no spirit or performance at all, and the guy he beat actually gets a better score just for his flashy entrance. aja and hutch also do some battles and teach us some more about how the game works, but the other important one is Kaseys opener, because she's pitted against Prophet(nina), who turns out to be a deathly efficient fighter with perfectly practiced form and a Silent Sentinel vibe that bounces pretty well against Wildcard (k)s chaotic, bubbly energy. It's a good fight, and in the end kasey barely wins, something that is INCREDIBLY frustrating for nina, and the first spark of their rivalry.
a few more events happen that set up the range of the games, establish some supporting cast, ect, kasey starts coming into her own with her powers, theres a b-plot about her school life, aja and victor have some family baggage and drama ect. but the major conflict of this season is arkangel. remember when i mentioned she wanted to use the Comet, an ancient well of mysterious cosmic power, to summon the Judge, an ancient destructive cosmic beast? yeah she hasnt given up on that, but shes needing to change her strategy. see, the comet is mysterious and everybody has a different theory about how it works, but its known that it doesnt give its power to just anybody. according to legends, it only grants itself to someone of pure heart in moments of pure need, and according to some magicians it needs something of equal power to pull its energy out. arkangel tries a few different things to pull out the energy she needs and i havent quite ironed out all the details of that stuff yet have mercy but. Somehow, She Figures It Out and summons the judge and it starts wrecking shop and there is a big awesomesauce chaotic battle. nina runs away, just fully ditchihg arkangel, and in a moment where it looks like shes about to lose, arkangel stabs aja and causes some of her hero gear to backfire and . well she is dead. this causes 2 things - 1, kasey summons the full power of the comet and just completely annihilates the judge, reducing it to an egg (its a wishing star type deal, power bends to the users truest desire and kaseys desire was to stop it from hurting anyone, which leaves it in a harmless form. she doesnt want to kill anything :( ) 2, victor freaks out. remember how hes on parole with the death gaurdians? yeah well one of these spirits is his "warden", basically this creepy ghost thing only he can see that follows him around and criticizes his life choices and makes sure hes not, yknow, damaging the fabric of reality or whatever. well AAs whole thing is that she wants 2 tear reality to shreds, so victor makes a deal that the warden will lend him its power and in exchange he'll let them arrest her, and this works out, he goes full necromancer and wipes the floor with her in seconds. its awesome. she gets arrested and dragged to spirit jail by a bunch of creepy ghosts.
after that is the next major "season". in this bit we learn a lot more about the grand cosmos and the things that live there. theyre not strictly gods, just beings of a different realm with higher concentrates of magical energy, letting them get even bigger and even crazier than stuff on the earthly realm can, and a few of the residents (which im debating on a catchy name for, cosmopolitan or cosmonaut both sound fun to me) decided to use their power to kind of sheperd the mortal realm. some are predators that eat souls, others try to maintain balance, others try to keep up the divide between the worlds, some want to tear it all down. but the section our heroes are involved with fancy themselves universe cops basically, arbiters of justice to souls who defy the natural order of life and death including, yknow, people artificially inflating their lifespans through magicks and whatnot. this is all organized by a being called the pale lady [or aomething idk] who operates this big cosmic courtroom, which is where arkangels "trial" is held to kick off the season.
i say "trial", but the question isnt really if if shes done anything wrong, its more of a character thing, like, people she knew in life who were affected by her actions weighing in on if they think she was right or wrong. this is where she explains her sad backstory, and the big conflict here is with victor. arkangel wanted to tear the system down for the sake of her daughter, and, well. his pet project, the thing hes spent most of his time working on for centuries? it isnt too different from what shes doing. a little less violent, yeah, but fundementally... well. the trial continues on and our heroes return to earth with arkangel officially condemned to sit around in heavenly prison, presumably forever.
aja is still dead. this is a bummer. bringing people back from the dead is hard, its simply not done, but if anyone could do it its victor. he explains, though, that souls are just collections of energy and that after death, souls dont really "go" anywhere, they just disperse back into the environment. this process takes some time, but because aja was kind of a patchwork project and was never technically fully alive, he has no idea if her soul could exist without her body at all, let alone if it would last, or if using the same process he used to bring her to life would actually bring her back or if it would just create a new soul in its place. so hes sort of. stuck. and his special project? well, thats not ready yet. its so, so close, but he just doesnt have the power he needs.
he wouldnt, at least. but after the trial the warden offers to make him a deal. if he agrees to hunt bounties for the pale lady and act in service when hes needed, the wardens power is granted to him to use as he'd like. much more freedom, more power, a cool new form with like a crazy scythe hand that im super excited about and will eventually draw someday. he agrees.
victor uses his power to finish his project, which he swears will fix all of this. see, hes been working on a time machine.
time travel isnt really a thing you can just DO, yknow, time doesnt really work like that, its not a tangible thing you can touch and trace and go backwards and forwards in. so its not really technically time travel. its a much more elaborate form of a type of technology he'd been tinkering with earlier in the comic, a sort of holodeck-style simulation that creates simulations based on the users memories and desires. so basically he creates this dream universe for himself, and uses it to go back to a little while before he'd brought aja to life, waaay back when.
see, the first time victor did this, he was only 19. he knew what he was doing, but he didnt know what he was doing. he was going to create life, a spark, a new soul. but you cant create something out of nothing, and the process of bringing aja to life fully killed him. upon his death, in that brief period before souls fade away, he begged the pale lady to give him more time, just to go back and see his creation, make sure she was safe. and she agreed, but when he woke up, it was far too late. six months had already passed and aja was long gone. he assumed she was dead, until a few years later she turned up on his doorstep begging him to help her. see, shes horribly lonely, completely outcast in a world she doesnt understand by people who dont know any better except to be afraid of her. she wants a little sister, someone to take care of and nurture and be with.
from this point on, the story is never quite clear. neither of them like to talk about it, and the most we see as an audience is brief flashbacks, sillouhettes and vague implications. but it ended with two people dead, aja down an arm and victor an eye, and both with blood on their hands.
victor holds a lot of guilt for everything that happened, and hes never really been able to get over it. he only ever really sees aja as this kind of... not mistake, really, he just had all these wonderful plans for her and for the life he wanted to give her and it all just. fell apart. because he wasnt prepared. he knows he couldve done, and shouldve done better, and hes going to prove it, hes going to do everything right and shes going to be so so happy this time.
but its not really real. he can kind of convince himself it is, for a little while, and he can live out this perfect life with his daughter and husband and everything is exactly how it was supposed to be. but its not right, its not her, its not his family. hes not fixing anything by doing this, hes just wallowing in his guilt and shame and abandoning the real, actual aja, his actual kid who needs him to be there. thats kind of always been his blind spot. he loves her, but his guilt keeps him from forming a real relationship with her because he can only think about how he hurt her even when shes basically begging him to come be a part of her life.
he snaps out of it and comes back, to find that, whoops, he miscalculated something and its actually been almost four months that hes been gone, literally just dissapeared into thin air one day leaving hutch alone with a dead wife and a bunch of spellbooks they could never in a million zillion years hope to understand, trying to figure out how to cope. bit of a dick move. they talk it out. they bond. eventually they do bring aja back, and as a little bonus shes actually really, fully alive this time. thats that haircut with the white streak in it, thats Alive Aja. she also gets more special powers now that shes alive and can actually use her magics(ill explain this fr one day but for now i digress)
OH slight digression at some point around this area - probably after or as a b-plot during victors stuff, the judge egg transforms again into bucket, my adorable little octopus girl who i love with all my heart i dont have a picture on hand but just trust me shes so cute and swag.
after this bit the next season of the game picks up and we start to get back to kasey, and nina. kaseys been having a hell of a time through those last four months, with crazier new powers from the comet, crazy teenage angst and relationship drama, and crazy weird dreams. crazy.
nina, on the other hand, has been totally fucked. see at some point in season1, during one of the games, she allied with this other villain, a low-level grunt called Bruiser. its a battle royale type game competing for a magic prize that gives the winner a wish yadda yadda and after becoming friends with bruiser and winning she stabs him in the back to take the prize, but feeling guilty uses her wish to make sure hes okay. hes kind of been watching out for her since, as he just kind of happened to live around the same area of the arizona desert that arkangels base is at, and hes kind of a big brother figure for nina. so when she ditches arkangel, she turns to him, knowing she cant really go home. he lets her crash on the couch in his shitty trailer, and does his best as a loser 30something who doesnt get paid enough to make sure shes mostly taken care of. and he lets her team up with him in games so she can still compete, because, despite her injury getting worse and worse, shes still determined to prove she can do this.
over the course of the games, nina and kaseys relationship gets kind of explored in some cool fun ways and they get to start to be actual friends in-between ninas "i hate you i have to be better than you fuck you" complex, and this climaxes in a big battle where nina slips kasey a fusion ring (something used for an event in s1 because its swag) and they fuse to take down like a big evil robot. its an awesome fight, but. during the battle with arkangel nina had left before kasey channeled the comet, so this is when she really realizes just what kasey had done. and it pisses her the fuck off. the one thing nina couldnt do and kasey is whipping it out like its nothing? why? why her? nobody wanted it more than nina did. nobody worked harder or needed it more. so why didnt she deserve it? what makes kasey so special? its not fair. so she punches her in the face, hard, and truly and honestly tells her how much she fucking hates her. eventually after some more Events they have a heart-to-heart about it and nina opens up about everything, about her injury and how badly she fucked up, and mostly about the fact that shes been lying about... everything.
see, ninas been telling people shes this ancient demon princess with royal hell powers, but shes actually just. some kid. her dad is like the chairman of the city council in their circle of hell or something, and shes just his daughter. she lied to sound cool. hes overprotective of her, because when she was born he was told she was particularly fragile, and so he kept her away from a lot of the things she wanted to do, making her a bit of an outcast and when his overprotectiveness turned away from just "dont participate in bloodsport" to the kind of music she listened to or clothes she wore, she decided to just get out. she made a pact with arkangel that if AA could convince her dad to let her go to earth for a "boarding school", she'd be her servant and blah blah blah. eventually it worked and ninas been keeping up the lie for the past like, three years now or however long its been. but the thing about demonic pacts is that theyre not just like, a pinky promise, theyre super dense legalese and theres a lot of consequences for breaking them, and nina is being chased down by hellhounds trying to get her arrested for breaking her pact with AA, so she has to come clean to her dad. this results in a fun little adventure down to hell for K and nina and also, nina and her dad work things out. he tells her hes just worried about her she tells him she feels like he doesnt believe in her or support her, her arc about proving herself kind of culminates in being able to accept her limits and that "pushing past" is only ever going to hurt her, you have to take care of yourself if you want to keep doing the things you love longterm, blah blah art burnout sports injuries ecetera. eventually they decide she can keep doing the villain thing, but she has to do it like, fucking safely and stuff. frm this point forward shes an ambulatory wheelchair user because i think it would be fun and awesome
theres some endgame stuff but its all a bit fuzzy! AA is busted out of space prison by an even eviler villain who wants to destroy even more stuff (so much to the point that even arkangel who was totally onboard with "destroy the great cosmos" kind of goes "hey we cant really destroy the earth i have to live there" and "wow this guy is a freak"), luci gets to be a villain and have her little arc too, kaseys aforementioned crazy dreams and crazy comet powers build up to something, but like, this is all pretty rough.
theres a lot more details.like the actual games themselves and some of the filler stuff, sidecast, some cool episode concepts, some of the more interpersonal sideplots especially a lot of the ones with hutch and all the kasey normal teen bplot which i adore but dont fit in neatly to a more concise linear summary and are also again a bit fuzzy. ANYWAYS.
also one last thing nina is a skateboarder and if kasey was playing a normal sport and not This Bullshit i think she would be either a baseball player or a track runner. also aja gets a motorcycle and she loves it to death.
OKEYYY if you havr any further questions plsz feel free to ask this was SO MUCH FUN i hope it more or less made sense!!!! thank youuuuuuuu i love youuuuuuu goodbyeeeee

Hello- I come forth with another random theory question I have- Hope your having a good day
How different would Damon and Stefan relationship be in IRH and M2D if Stefan was a girl? I feel like Damon would be 10x more protective and restrictive of what Stefan could do if he was a girl. Like I imagine how Klaus is with Elena but somehow worse-
How would Enzo be? His already protective of Stefan in it on itself- but Stefan as a girl? Is a fun thought, weirdly enough I feel like Stefan would get along better with his friends, since “she” wouldn’t hang out with Matt and Tyler and feel guilty for not being able to do stuff because his a little, since “she’d” hang out with the girls more-
Again- just a random thought and I send hugs and love from my side of the screen
Tumblr media
First...this hug is everything to me. Just the relief Stefan has of finally being wrapped up in his big brother's arms again. Paul Wesley and Ian Somerhalder killed this scene. (Which after Ian barely smiling in that other scene with Nina, this was the final scene Damon deserved, as was Elena's with her family)
Also, thank you so much for sending this in because "What if Stefan was Stefanie" is actually one of my favorite rabbit holes to spiral down.
In canon, things would be so much different. Damon and Stefanie would still have their problems but I think it'd present a lot differently. We've seen Damon with women. I am not one to pretend he hasn't treated them terribly (Caroline deserved so much better and as much as I love their friendship...damn, how'd she ever forgive him???), we see that he also takes a bit of a softer hand. Still sarcastic and his usual self, unafraid to serve what he believes is justice, but still it's different.
Also the dynamic between a baby sister and big brother would just be so much different. They'd probably rival Rebekah and Klaus.
As for how that'd look in an agere setting...yeah, he's definitely Klaus with Elena in DTD but cranked up about 50 notches.
In the beginning, Damon gave Stefan a lot of freedom. But I think he'd be more hesitant with "Stefanie" (how I'll refer to her for simplicity's sake) and try to keep her home as much as possible. On the one hand, Damon is all "boys and girls are no different, they should get to do the same stuff" but with a teenage sister, he'd be terrified of what the world had out there. He definitely wouldn't let her go out with the guys, which would cause resentment.
Stefanie would still be friends with Matt and Tyler, since she'd also be friends with Elena and Bonnie who are also their friends. Damon would still hate it but for a totally different reason. Tyler consistently making jokes, his tendency to date around...Damon knows boys like Tyler. As Caroline calls Klaus out in DTD, both have been boys like Tyler. It'd lead to several arguments and Stefanie sneaking out a lot.
Overall, Damon would be a lot less subtle about how overprotective he is. In IRH and M2D, Stefan is aware, but there's a lot of Damon giving him some independence but also subtly folllowing him or arranging to make sure he's watched from afar. Whereas, with Stefanie, he'd just drop all pretenses.
In some ways, I almost feel like their relationship would be strained for a bit. Not forever, but Stefanie feels smothered by her overprotective brother who follows her everywhere, tries to restrict her friends and doesn't let her go out at night. Combined with feeling insecure of all she can't do like Bonnie (though I think she'd still find solace in Elena) and the boys, it'd be a tense time until Damon learned to ease up a little. But it'd take a good year of arguing. At one point, probably the only time Damon and Stefanie would get along is when she drops, because Little!Stefanie just wants her big brother to make everything better. Which I think is another conundrum for Big!Stefanie because she wants her big brother to take care of her, she just also wants her independence.
Eventually, Damon would realize that he doesn't want to lose Stefanie and agree to ease up, slowly building into something similar to what Defan has in the verse. It's not completely the same and I don't think he'd ever truly be on board with Tyler, but he's loosened up.
Enzo is definitely very protective of Stefanie. I haven't exactly gone into this in M2D, but one of the reasons why Enzo fell into caregiver so quickly is that Damon just kept describing Stefan as a baby. So, when they met, he just fell into "oh, this is my boyfriend's little boy, let me squish his cheeks and love all over him!" So, he'd be the same way with Stefanie.
In some ways, I think Enzo is less protective and more willing to let both Stefan and Stefanie do things. Yet, I think he'd still surprise Stefanie with how he insists on holding her hand when they cross the street, not letting her watch scary movies, etc. Also, because he's Italian, he falls even more into that caretaker role. He leans into babying Stefanie moreso than being protective. Which, somehow, I think she minds less with Enzo than Damon.
Also, I know she's on TVD as a very short term character, but I could see Sammi Hanratty as Stefanie. She looks a lot like Paul as well as like she could be Damon's sister/Giuseppe and Lily's daughter. Plus, this is realistic for Damon & 17 year old Stefanie!

Thank you so much for asking me all this! I loved getting to talk about it. I hope you have a great weekend!

the followup/repercussions/2012 summer counterpart to this
______________
“Gran, who are we visiting again?” Nina asks, closing the door of the taxi behind her.
“An old friend,” Gran explains. “Do you remember a girl called Kara? You were in preschool together.”
Nina shakes her head no. “Was this before or after we moved?”
“Before,” Gran says. “No, I suppose you wouldn’t. Anyway, this is her grandfather. We met—actually, I don’t quite remember how we met.” Gran looks confused for a second. “Well, in any case, he always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, and we eventually became good friends, although we did lose touch after the move. When I heard he was sick again, though—”
Nina nods. She doesn’t fully understand why she’s being dragged here in the middle of their vacation to visit an old crush of her grandmother’s (ew), but she also doesn’t particularly care. It’s a welcome distraction from everything else going on in her life. “Are you sure you don’t want your cane?” she asks, warily eyeing her grandmother’s teetering footsteps as they enter the hospital foyer.
“No, sweetheart, I’m alright.”
No, you’re not, Nina thinks. Not since last year. Yet another point to add to the ever-growing list of things Nina’s done wrong.
They reach the check-in desk and Gran says, “We’re here to see Mr. Charles Rush, 1st Floor Palliative Care, room 80 or 90 or something. Evelyn and Nina Martin—we should be on the list.”
The receptionist nods. “You’re on B2 right now, so you’re going to want to take the elevator up to the first floor. Palliative Care is the East wing, and Mr. Rush is in Room 90. There will be someone there to help you out as well.”
Nina looks at the print on the badge the receptionist hands her and nearly drops it in shock: 1E-90. One Eight Nine Zero. 1890.
She immediately squeezes her eyes shut. It’s all in your head, It’s all in your head, It’s all in your head, she repeats silently. The locket is cool against her chest (not warm or glowing), she hasn’t heard any strange voices or had any supernatural dreams, and she’s miles away from Anubis. The room number is just a random coincidence, and a reach at that.
“Qu’est-ce qu’il y a? Are you okay?”
Nina opens her eyes to find both her grandmother and the receptionist staring at her.
“C’est rien. Something just flew into my eye,” Nina lies. “Let’s go find the elevator.”
____________
The ward is bustling with nurses and visitors floating in and out, which helps quell Nina’s unease a little bit. Surely nothing shady will happen with so many people around—but then again, the amount of times she nearly died at school is too many to count. Get a grip, she tells herself.
They enter Room 90 and Nina sees the mysterious Mr. Rush for the first time.
“Oh, Charlie, it’s so good to see you,” Gran says excitedly, sitting in the chair closest to him and taking his hand in hers. “And you remember my granddaughter Nina.” Nina gives him a little wave but stays put in her position against the wall by the foot of the bed.
“Yes, of course.” His voice is dry and papery, and something about the way he looks at her strongly reminds Nina of Sarah. She rubs her locket absentmindedly.
“Nina, come closer. He can’t see you clearly from that corner,” Gran chides. Nina obediently goes and stands next to her.
“That’s very pretty,” Mr. Rush says.
Nina realizes she’s still holding the locket and blushes. “Oh. Thank you.”
Mr. Rush smiles vaguely, a vacant look in his eyes. “My sister, Sarah—” and before he can continue, he dissolves into a coughing fit.
“Oh, no, Charlie, are you okay?” Gran cries, immediately helping him sit up and drink some water. “Nina, could you press that button—Nina! What are you doing?”
“Huh?” Nina stands rooted in place, Mr. Rush’s words rolling around in her mind. Sister, Sarah?
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” Mr. Rush waves Gran away. “Don’t bother the nurses. It’s normal.”
“Are you sure?” Gran asks, evidently still concerned.
“I could do with some hot chocolate,” Mr. Rush says with a wink. “Would you go get some for me?”
“You and your sweet tooth,” Gran laughs. “Oh, alright. I’ll be right back. Nina, come sit here and keep him company.”
“Mhmm.” Nina sits in the chair, still dazed. As soon as she hears the door closed behind her, she leans forward and asks, “I’m sorry, did you say your sister—?”
Mr. Rush suddenly moves his hand and grips her wrist. “Listen, they are mobilizing as we speak. We don’t have much time, Chosen One. ”
Nina freezes. “Who are you? Who is mobilizing? How do you know who I am?”
“My sister’s,” Mr. Rush murmurs, nodding and staring at her chin. Nina looks down and gasps. The locket is glowing—but not the eye; rather, just its hinges.
“That’s weird,” Nina mutters. She opens it and a small piece of photography paper falls into her palm. “R.F.S. and C.F.S.,” she reads. Turning it over, she sees a picture of a tall, distinguished man and what appears to be a newborn child tightly swaddled in his arms.
She looks up at the man in front of her. “C F S. Charles Frobisher-Smythe. Is that true?”
“My father—when my mother died, he changed my name and sent me here.”
“Sarah’s your half-sister,” Nina guesses. “And you’re a Frobisher.”
He simply nods.
“So my Gran’s old friend is the son of someone whose actions almost got me killed, twice, and now he’s telling me I might die. Again.” Nine stares at him. “How do I know you won’t do the same thing?”
The locket grows exponentially warm at her words, almost burning Nina’s skin. She gasps and snaps it shut. It cools immediately. “Okay, okay. I trust you.”
Mr. Rush smiles slightly. “Now listen carefully. A great evil is about to be unleashed, and you will be”—he coughs—“you will be in more danger than anyone else. Your Osirian—”
“That’s it! His whole job is to protect me, isn’t it?” Nina says. “So we’ll be okay?”
Mr. Rush shakes his head. “You cannot be together. The best way for him to protect you is to stay as far away from you as possible.”
“What? How does that make any sense?” Nina’s agitated now, her pulse racing. The one thing she had been holding onto the entire summer was that Eddie would be back at school with her next year, that with the two of them together, no one else would have to get hurt by whatever chooses to plague her next.
“The great evil”—another cough—“requires a sacrifice of five to enter this world. But if it has the Paragon and Osirian together—your souls and spirits—it requires only two.” His eyes bore into her. “Do you understand?”
“They would just need us,” Nina says quietly, suddenly understanding. “If they get both of us together—”
“Yes. It will be the end of the world as we know it. And if you are caught first—”
“—Eddie will be forced to come and help me. He’ll be walking straight into their trap.” Nina’s head starts spinning. “Mr. Rush, how do we stop it? Please, I need to warn my friends,” she pleads.
“I wish I could tell you more,” Mr. Rush croaks, “but they have their ways. I have arranged for one of my own to help.”
“One of your own?” Nina asks. “What do you mean? How can they help, without my locket, my powers?”
Before he can answer, Gran enters the room again, and Nina quickly jumps up to let her sit. “Charlie, they don’t have any hot chocolate,” Gran says.
Mr. Rush rolls his eyes. “Ah, well, I tried.” He moves his hand closer to Gran’s so their fingers just brush past each other. Gran blushes.
“Alright, I’ll leave you two alone. It sounds like you have some catching up to do,” Nina says, plastering a smile on her face that she hopes hides the terror she feels. She holds up her phone and, lying through her teeth, adds, “Plus, I have to call my boyfriend back.”
Gran frowns. “It’s past midnight over there, isn’t it?”
“Yes,” Nina nods, mentally scrambling for an excuse. “Yes. It is past midnight. He’s, um, nocturnal.”
“Oh, alright. Wait downstairs, I’ll come and find you,” Gran says.
“Bye, Mr. Rush, it was nice meeting you,” Nina says, then bolts out the door.

review for shadow and bone, season 2, the good, the bad, and the ugly. spoilers, of course
well. i really should have seen this coming. i guess i did, but my poor darklina heart clouded me to my better judgment. yes, they did it. the series committed the exact same errors as the book series. alina kills the darkling and (sort of but not really) kills mal and then brings him back with nina’s help. alina keeps her powers and mal becomes a privateer under the sturmhond name.
i will say, however, that the execution was much better than bardugo’s, and there were some thematic echoes and parallels that weren’t too shabby. it was entertaining (though the pacing was god-awful at parts). and as infuriating as them going the book route is, they did leave some things open. i’ll just hugo montenegro-it
the good:
a lot of the forced teen drama in the book series is mercifully gone. mal being jealous of nikolai, and just…book mal being book mal is completely gone. totally expected, but still good
alina not losing her powers. all par de course, since these writers are clearly not that stupid
kaz absolutely destroying pekka rollins. genuinely badass and well acted. freddy carter was nothing less than magnificent when he finally gets to show off. i wasn’t at all sure of his casting at first, but he did pull through here
wylan/jesper was good? yeah, it was, very hot together (height differences!). i was not particularly fond of jesper tsundere-ing wylan at first for no good reason and then suddenly hooking up with him again once he remembers their first hook-up, also for no good reason, but whatever. they’re both hot and am a simple girl alas
the series did a great job in establishing kaz’s aversion to touch and backstory, even if it did belabor the point at times. good that they took it seriously
as much as i hate what they did with the darkling, i am glad they deleted his more cartoonishly voldemort shit in the book. genya’s scarring is more justified (still doesn’t sit right, though) in this context
alina and mal not getting together. small comfort, i know. since they’ve beaten their grand love to dead over our heads, they’re almost definitely endgame. but considering the darkling comes back in the books and the bee at the end…idk, i feel even these anti writers will realize just how much indispensable he is. they’re probably going for a dark!alina arc, so alina and the darkling may probably finally be equals, just in a roundabout way
they also deleted some of the more egregious moments from the book, like the random slaughter of the volcra and alina taking over the little palace by force and installing herself as commander. well, for the latter they pretty much just…elided that entirely, didn’t they? meanwhile they had to create a whole new rationale for mal becoming commander (nah, he just wears the uniform, tolya and tamar are just in charge). bah, i’m just grateful the “good guys”’s fuckery was toned down
er, that’s it
the bad:
the pacing was atrocious, both too rushed and too slow at parts. some of the crows fans are already complaining about the most important moments taken from the duology and placed out of context, but honestly they still have the ice court and jurda parem, so there is still plenty of material and re-jiggering. the alina storyline, though, not good
the dropped storylines. what about the war with shu han? wouldn’t they think to attack just as ravka is at its most vulnerable? also, why would a shu saint ever give the sword that her husband stole for her to a ravka-born sun summoner? like, no
also re: dropped storylines: mal getting arrested by the first army and kidnapped, and then just…getting away without an explanation how? this season really was crammed full of way too much plot
the sankta neyra plotline did some good and bad things. good in that they draw up a thematic parallel to the rest of the action (immortal/mortal pairings, closed/open to love). bad in that it also served to demonize the darkling once more. the darkling’s problem isn’t that he isn’t open to love!!!! if anything bitch was too open!!!! and he is clearly still in love with alina at the end. being closed to love due to trauma is kaz’s issue to overcome. the show’s IQ points fluctuate so much, i can’t. and they tend to lose it the most when it comes to the darkling
they really leaned into tsundere!kaz, which dampened a lot of my enthusiasm for the inej/kaz romance. it came to feel very one-sided for different reasons. also, inej’s own skin trauma isn’t as well established as kaz’s, so all of it feels as if the trauma is kaz’s problem to overcome in order for them to get together. which really sucks re: the mutual pining in the books. and now there’s the new inej/toyia hint out of nowhere. the fangirls are pleased, but from a writing standpoint, why? for yet another love triangle?
nikolai. the character is likeable, but with little of that roguish charm that at least made him interesting. the actor they cast had more golden retriever jock vibes than anything else. having nikolai say that he couldn’t have gotten the crown without alina’s reputation as a saint was just laughable
they retconned baghra’s character so hard, didn’t they? i loved the actress, her delivery was so crisp and clear, but of course the writing doesn’t in the least acknowledge the darkling’s trauma at her hands at all
alina’s character took such a painful nosedive into girlboss. as much as i am constantly frustrated with book alina, she at least had empathetic moments (she felt for the slaughtered volcra). if nothing else, she was attracted to the darkling and mourned for him. not show alina, though. show alina is emotionally shallow, strong with none of the vulnerabilities, and at the end, just downright unpleasant
same complaint as last season, but the crows are just not as charismatic as in their book series. it’s just hard to take them seriously amid literal fantasy epic magic. the casting is very good, though, better than the alina side save ben barnes
speak of the devil: ben barnes was absolutely wasted. arguably the best actor playing a character with lots of potential, but the show just. did not let him round his character. the script did him absolutely no favors and cut a lot of his screen time. he got two good actor-y moments with him being devastated over baghra and not being able to control the nichhevo’ya but that’s basically it?
not the worst, but the tie-in of the crows to the main storyline via the shadow-cutting sword. for one very convenient sword, they journey to shu han. really? alina’s sun powers should have been enough, or at the very least she should have handled the sword and combined it with her light powers, but as the show simply refused to have a proper showdown between her and the darkling…ugh, it’s a mess
the ugly:
alina killing the darkling in cold blood when he wasn’t even attacking her. as in, right when he was imagining their very first kiss in season 1. fuck you, show. the minute the darkling died, the show died. end of story. it is shadow and bone, after all, and what do those refer to? that’s right. my darling darkling done dirty, indeed.
the show recontextualizing alina and the darkling’s magical zoom calls. alina sees him not because she loves him, lol, that’s ridiculous, but because she still has ptsd from his ~violation!!! and of course baghra somehow managed to cut their connection with yet another baghra-block. shut up, shut up, shut up
again, the darkling becoming worse. yes, he used merzost, but he already used it and the fold came about, and he was still fine. he uses it again and he gets…a really bad cough.
don’t think i didn’t notice all the pale faces on the darkling’s side versus the POC in alina’s and nikolai’s side, show. never mind that the grisha are the de-facto POC of this show and actual skin color never is a true problem and/or relevant. very cheap and manipulative of you, show
the darkling strangling alina. no. the darkling was objectively worse in the books and yet he didn’t lift a finger against alina in physical violence. after she had tried to kill him, his reaction was basically a shrug and a yeah, well, same. once again, fuck you, show. (and even then they still had the best chemistry with each other)
alina deciding to trick the darkling in the first place in order to sever the connection. doesn’t even make sense with the show’s canon, since alina’s ptsd would have had her trying to avoid the darkling at all costs. but alina has to girlboss, so in she goes!
“i knew there must have been a reason why i liked you.” there are now 300 darkling/mal fics based on this one line alone, and for that, once again, fuck you, show. also, the darkling also appearing to mal in a dream/magical zoom call was awful.
goodbye, grisha-are-the-persecuted-POC-of-this-world plot theme, we hardly knew ye. losing this aspect, the relentless and varied grisha hate in all the world except in novyi zem, made the whole story and the world’s politics utterly incoherent
again, joining the monarchy was not good optics. i don’t care how woke nikolai was (his change of heart after learning genya was raped was somehow less convincing in the show than in the book) would have preferred it had alina forged her own path and have nikolai deflect to her side. would have been consistent with the underdogs vs. powerful adults theme
to conclude, it’s all a wash. the problems of the original book series were obviously way too hard for these writers to solve, so they fixed all the surface issues instead re: the good guys being unlikeable/jerks in the books. but that only ended up flattening much of the drama and characters. show!alina turns so much against the darkling it’s actually creepy. like she has been possessed by the soul of an anti writer.
once again, the crows are the ones most respected and no doubt loved, but their storylines really don’t cross well and in this context…they’re just not as compelling. the crows’ world is a very different, more down-to-earth, morally gray world than the black-and-white fantasy tripe of shadow and bone. in the end, both stories and characters are diluted. i’m not sure how they are going to recover from killing off the darkling—given that they are going for a dark!alina route and the king of scars duology, then they will almost certainly resurrect him. on the other hand, i don’t want to wait years just to get ben barnes!darkling tagged on at the very end. what a mess.

random question but. if the bna characters [whichever ones you feel like talking about] were in the atla universe, what kind of bender would they be If they were a bender? nonbenders? do any of them have avatar vibes?
(I told myself to answer this and then I forgot hold on give me a sec)
ok so my immediate thought is “I would think that the shirou and nazuna dynamic would be the same.” how i’d go about that is shirou being the avatar (there are the Parallels: the 100 years-1,000 years, the power, the responsibility) and nazuna of course pretending to be the avatar (because no one knows where the real one fucked off to and she’s gonna take a grab for the publicity and also she wants to give people hope, and if the real deal isn’t here for that, well).
shirou: avatar, likely hailed from earthbenders (I’m taking their strength, their determination and stubborn nature into account). lone wolf as always, extremely powerful, trying to give the illusion of “I have a plan”, corey, they do not have a plan.
nazuna: ok so this is hard, because my initial thought was “oh! she’s a non-bender” but I think that’s difficult considering the role I put her in. so perhaps a firebender (but then again, I think it’d be too easy to put her there, I think it’s too obvious). I don’t think she’s an immensely powerful one, I think she’s just good with words and can find people in high places to help her pull this all off.
boris still exists as part of her group, a beacon of wisdom (lies). he’s a firebender, hiding a lot of power, his “i wish to help you achieve your goals” mirage slowly fades with more word of the real avatar/nazuna being influenced by the words of some earthbending girl (no, I have not worked out this part wygwygwhg).
*normal grip* marie is a non-bender, definitely a chi-blocker. I think that’s very obvious, with her agility and the scene where she rendered boris quite literally immobile. she’s got a bit of a june role, if june appeared more often. probably one of nazuna’s people in high places, of course is only here for the cash and the fact that being “friends” with a false avatar gives her some protection (allegiance changes once the real avatar appears, revealing a slight vulnerable side of “this is the real deal, this is genuine, this isn’t another fake.”).
occasional mentor to michiru, misleading muse to nazuna, informant and hinderance to shirou, nefarious pick-pocket with chi-blocking on her side.
michiru: earthbenderrrr. i think once shirou gets back into the avatar biz (subtly, of course) michiru is the “are you ok? are you alright?” to their *violent sounds of violence* when it comes to looking out for people. let’s be real, they aren’t the best at communicating, and sort of need someone to help the people they save verbally, instead of “get up bitch, you’re fine *sound of wall of water slamming into attackers*
still her excited and awe-struck self, embodies the toph “please let me outta here” mindset. shirou did not plan to take a kid with them on their journey to confront their fake, but she’s like “teach me the mystic ways of earthbending” and they wish to teach her the “mystic ways” of minding her own business.
pingua is a very experienced airbender, I feel like that’s the only accurate choice (being a pilot, a literal bird). like marie, appears sometimes to drop some “useful” advice and to mainly hinder others (sometimes unintentionally, in his case). his main goal is really just to explore. just to see the world, learn all he can, take in the cultures and the land and anything he can.
sometimes has to have his priorities forcibly adjusted (by shirou and/or michiru) because of this desire to drift around, and how it sometimes overshadows the need to do the right thing (again, similar to marie). also helps shirou learn airbending, shirou does NOT like this.
nina is a waterbender fleeing from a strict family in the northern watertribe, fleeing to explore the world and learn her place in it. a little out of her depth, I think she’d be part of nazuna’s posse, considering her experience with “stage.” (defects shortly after finding this role, morals getting in the way).
the bears are earthbenders, I don’t have a role for alan yet and uhhh yeah!! this got long I’m sorry UWGWWGHGWHW.

CHARACTER UPDATE Q3 2022 I ♥ JAEKYUNG’S PHONE
“lets see... what do we have here?”
what are the top 5 most used apps on your phone?
jaekyung is on her phone way too much. aside from the good old kakaotalk to stay in touch with everyone she also uses her phone to game a lot. whenever getting ready for future dreams filming one can find her gaming away on her phone and advance her cookie run kingdom. she has a random instagram and twitter account that she doesn’t post on but uses it to keep up with everything going on (and liking all the posts and pictures about her friends to support). beyond that her most used app may be facetime to video call all her friends and her parents, who regularly bug her about looking after the little one.
what is the most random note in the notes app?
some recipe on cake in a cup that the internet claimed was fool proof and easy. jaekyung really wanted to try it out when she was craving cake one evening. her original plan had been to gather her courage and ask nina to help her with it but then future dreams happened so she couldn’t really get around to do that before she had to move to the temporary dorms instead. now it just sits in her notes with jaekyung not sure if she even wants to try this out anymore. reflecting upon why you’d put salt and not sugar into a cake made her question this whole thing after all.
what was the last message or call you’ve received and who was is from?
her last message was from areum, responding to lunch plans the two of them were making. with just 5 girls left in future dreams, they all had grown closer and just bonded over being grouped together. so it’s not unusual for all of them or some of them to get food together before heading straight back to practice, even if it was just to ensure that each of them didn’t overwork themselves and eat properly instead. as for call it was her mum who yelled at her jokingly over text that chaekyung looked too skinny on tv and why jae wasn’t looking after her. they had a good laugh about it when the elder sibling reassured the parents even if she had to let herself get nagged at just a bit.
what were the last 5 songs that you’ve listened to?
jaekyung’s music taste mainly moves within the asian charts, no matter what language it spits out. she follows all the big groups and good names from anime to kpop. little mix “hair” is one of her top 5 anthems so that one is there for sure. otherwise she loves “lemon” from kenshi yonezu. then every girl trainees anthem ( in her humble opinion ): “Up&Down” from Blazin. Furthermore she’s a huge fan of “Lion Heart” by SNSD and to even out the ratio a little “born hater” by epik high never fails to slap in her opinion. (even if her rapping the song is definitely more of a meme.)
what were the 5 most recent online searches?
jaekyung regularly clears her search history solely because of how messy it gets and she really doesn’t want people asking her questions about why she looked for “glow in the dark frogs and where to buy them”. her other top 4 searches would be “nice, cheap restaurants around legacy” because she really wanted to expand on her food options beyond the cafeteria when realizing she usually just grabbed lunch near her uni instead before heading to practice. also “future dreams” just to see what would appear and “future dreams park sisters” because she wanted to calm her nerves if people really weren’t about to start a fan war over the two of them or something. and “han keeho” because she is kind of enamored with her boy and wants to laugh at all the girls crying over how they wished he was theirs.

CLOSED — @bridgesbxrned WHO — becky & ryder SETTING — idk some randoms porch
It isn’t very often that Becky actually gets a Saturday night off. Between all three packs of Thane children, usually at least one of their parents has plans and the redhead finds herself reading far too many bed time stories, tucking the little ones in and then planting herself on their couch and waiting until their parents get home. Not that she’s complaining — while it leaves her with very little free time, the money can’t really be beat and she has been nannying for the family for long enough now that it hardly feels like work at all, rather just spending time with something not quite family but more than just her friends too. So really, she doesn’t mind it but she hadn’t hesitated to take full advantage of a rare Saturday to herself either and had quickly snatched up an invitation to a party an old friend was throwing.
It should have been fun. There was plenty of alcohol being passed around and the music wasn’t bad and usually Rebecca would be fully immersed in the party, chatting her way through all the other attendees and spreading her little social butterfly wings. But, for whatever reason, she’s just not feeling it tonight. The booze is watered down to the point where she can barely catch more than a buzz and when Nina had bailed after only a few hours, she was left flickering between different social groups trying to find somewhere to settle and failing. It didn’t take long for her to get bored and she quickly excused herself from a guy a few years younger than her who is just a little too aggressively handsy — she always attracts that kind, doesn’t she? Part of her wonders if it’s genetics, seeing as her mother had done the same thing or if it’s just because half of them want to prospect and think she has an in for them (she doesn’t). But the better part of her knows it’s probably just because they’ve seen her naked already and see her as an easy lay for the night. And as soon as that thought is settled in her brain, the night is ruined and she wants to go home.
Summer in Louisiana is humid and she feels a little like she’s walking through a haze as she leaves the house, planting herself on the front steps and fishing her phone out of her pocket. She calls Ryder because of course she does. The two have been friends for years, having gotten closer when his parents hired her to watch his little sister during her gap years between high school and college and they’ve only seemed to get closer as the years go on. And yeah, maybe she has a tiny little crush on him (read: she’s been in love with him since she was sixteen) but that’s hardly the point. “Hey,” she greets when he answers. “You still at that club thingy you had tonight?” Not that she knows what said thingy would be. For someone with as many club connections as she has, Rebecca is, more or less, completely ignorant to anything Primordial related. “I’m at like, the words shittiest house party right now. Buncha guys tryin’ to relive their high school glory days and girls who are definitely all talking shit about me now that I’m outside. What’re the chances I can convince you to come get me? There’s an Oreo milkshake in it for you.”

[Star Tots AU] Brooklyn hummed as she casually looked through SHIELD files, wanting some new reading material as she wouldn't be able to get to the library until the weekend. Would she be here? Probably not, but there's nothing wrong with being curious - especially when finding one with her name, followed by 'Experiment 01111' in brackets next to it. Opening the front, Brook would've never guessed what was inside.
-
"So you just weren't gonna say anything?!"
Was the first thing Brook questioned when she saw her dad, not saying a 'hello' or even hiding the fact she was angry - a rare emotion for her to really show. Storming over, she slams the file down the file in front of him, having read it all,
"What? You were just never going to say anything dad? Just keep this secret forever? Or was it gonna be some little random comment just: oh yeah Brook by the way, you were made in some Hydra lab in God knows where by the Devil knows who!"
Breathing heavily, her anger began to subside, the initial spark dying out now she had gotten out her ranting, somewhat aware of how dramatic she was being. Shoulders slump, Brooklyn sighing in defeat,
"...I'm not mad you took me away from it dad, I am happy you saved me..." She tells him, making sure to make that clear, "I'm upset you didn't say anything, didn't even hint at anything...that's what I'm mad about dad..."
| muse interaction
"So you just weren't gonna say anything?!"
Tumblr media
Where the first set of words that came out of Steve's youngest mother the moment she came across him after seeming to be seeking him out just now. It wasn't so much what she said that got him it was how she said it the tone of her words that made him come to a full-on halt. Sure Steve had heard Brook be mad before that wasn't a new occuerance. They had had spats here and there from time to time even. Just one of the things to expect when it comes to raising a kid Steve had come to learn and deal with even, what got to him though was just how direct this all was. For Brooklyn that was enough to stand out, she wasn't the most confrontational of people. So taking such a tone, in general, was startling even more that it was aimed at Steve in the first place. He thought it was she asked but he was drawing blanks on what had her upset least for the few seconds he had to stand there with his confusion.
"What? You were just never going to say anything dad? Just keep this secret forever? Or was it gonna be some little random comment just: oh yeah Brook by the way, you were made in some Hydra lab in God knows where by the Devil knows who!" Steve felt like his heart stalled the second her anger rung out those words his way. "How - how did you?"
Steve never finished with what he wanted to say Steve just couldn't find the words he was still in a state of shock. Watched his daughter as she stood then anger burning in her blue eyes, shoulders heaving with even breath she was drawing in and out of herself. Brooklyn wasn't one to get angry not like this Nina sure the older girl had the temper. Brooklyn, was more clam so to draw out this from her? Steve knew he fucked up. So did the agents who were walking with him, awkwardly backing away from the room to leave the Captian and his kid alone and give them the privacy they were going to need for this conversation. Besides, it was likely only going to make it worse seeing how Brook was pretty much the only one who didn't know about where she came from. If the file wasn't enough proof for her they rather stay out of the crossfires. And hoped to save Steve any more yelling even if it was understandable. Even if Steve felt just a little betrayed about being left behind like so.
Though it seemed that burst of anger was just a short-lived flare of emotions working thier way through the girl before she let out sighed out. As if she had been defeated shoulders dropped down lowering the tension that had been building up. Steve just stood there he wasn't sure what to do or even say right now. He may not have a lot of memories of an angry Brooklyn but he had enough experience to in the least give her a chance to speak her peace first before trying. Brooklyn was already looking betrayed by what she found out. Steve wondered how she even did. He didn't want it to go like this he wanted and planned to speak to her. Knew no matter what it would be hard to take from her end but in the least, if it came from him maybe it would have been a bit better. Seeing how she was now? seemed Steve was right on that thought but lost his chance on doing so. Did Steve blame her on feeling so upset with him? No after all how was she meant to take this news? A clone of him was likely one thing but to find out she was made by Hydra of all things too boot? Steve could only wonder what she was left to think and feel about it, and worse how she found out like it was some big secret that not even she wasn’t aware of, despite having every right to be at least one of the people to know about it in the first place. This didn’t sit right with him, he waited to long to tell her.
"...I'm not mad you took me away from it dad, I am happy you saved me..."
Shifting his gaze to look at her, truly look at her as she began to speak up now, well he would hope she wouldn’t feel as if she was taken away from a true home. Steve could only imagine what they would have done to her if she had been left under their care.
"I'm upset you didn't say anything, didn't even hint at anything...that's what I'm mad about dad..."
“Brooklyn, it’s not that I didn’t want to tell you.” He began with making his way over to his daughter. Gently placing a hand to her shoulder letting his hand hold on to the slender, small space. Steve had be holding onto this information ever since he found her and took her where she truly belonged. But, he did rob her of knowing the truth. “I just never knew the best time to go about saying something to you. I mean How was I meant to know when you could handle or even understand that?” Soon he shook his head and let go of her “They don’t make parenting books on how to tell your kid she’s a hydra experiment like do how to tell your kid they are adopted.” He said in some attempt to get his daughter to understand on his own side of the mess where he was coming from. He lifted up his hands and pulled back his cowl it felt wrong to keep his face covered when having this conversation. “But we can’t dwell on that anymore because well now you do know and I’m sorry I wasn’t the one who got to tell you. I wanted to though I just never knew when too it. I didn’t want it to be a bomb or to make you feel like you were in attacked. I thought it be best to wait till you were older when you could better understand it all. But, then as birthdays passed it was getting harder and harder to know when it was time to have this talk with you. I didn’t know how you would take it I worried you would think low of yourself because of how you came to be and in the end those are all excuses that I was making up and going along thinking I was doing the right thing the whole time but I wasn’t not by you at least. I was selfish and I’m sorry Brooklyn.”
Steve let out a sigh his own before mustering a smile at her “You have been with me since you just a small little trouble maker and I thin I tend to forgot that you are not that same small child, you’re growing up and of course I want to protect you but if I keep doing so well look where we are now. That shouldn’t be an excuse though and you do have every right to be upset with me. But I guess I wasn’t giving you much credit on m end either I am sorry for that. I can’t make up not fessing up sooner but anything else I want you to know I will do anything t help you seek through okay?” A bit of pleading when he said it, he didn’t need to word it it was him asking for forgiveness on his end for the trouble this would cause now.
Tumblr media
“Just know this doesn’t change anything about you okay? Yes you were a clone experiment ran through Hydra’s scientists. But it’s got nothing to do with who you are I wanted you to be able to experience a life outside that connection so that you would form you own self and experiences. I didn’t want you to ever fear that you weren’t good or something close to that simply due to where you came from. And I guess that’s why I kept putting off telling you I was worried what would run through your head once you did know.” He in the least could offer to her. “Your still Brooklyn Rogers though, no matter what just at least keep that in mind” he hope she old at least consider his words even if she were mad with him.

being married to kaz brekker headcanons
request: hi! could you do being married to kaz brekker headcanons? i absolutely love your writing btw!
a/n: omg thank u so much! and yes!! domestic kaz i absolutely love this he deserves this happy ending
no one would ever expect that being married to kaz brekker would be easy
they’d expect constant threats
mortal danger
constant illegal activity
and they’d only be partially correct
being married to kaz brekker was like getting a new adventure every day
and sometimes that adventure wasn’t illegal
a lot of the times it was though
sometimes the adventure was taking a walk through a forest and reaching a meadow filled with sunflowers
kaz would hold your hand
finally at ease, away from the business of ketterdam
he’d lead you through the maze of flowers until you found a clearing
and then the two of you would sit in the sun for hours
talking about anything or sitting silently in each other’s company
because you two were married and there was nothing more important than the other
there was no underlying plan kaz needed to figure out
there was just you and the smell of the grass
“you are it for me” he would say to you and to the flowers
after you first got married, the two of you stayed in ketterdam
you’d bought an apartment away from the slat and the crow club, because it was meant to be a new space for the two of you
you lived right next to the best coffee shop in town
so whichever of the two of you woke up first would make the short trek to the shop and pick up your regular orders
always a tall black coffee for kaz
mornings were blissful
regulars at a coffee shop
the quiet of your own space
the smiles the two of you could share privately
but then the perfect bubble would be broken
and kaz would jump head first into the dangerous streets of the city
and he’d almost always come back hurt or annoyed or in a foul mood
which usually meant he’d distance himself in fear of taking it out on you
this almost never worked because you’d gotten pretty used to dealing with kaz in a way that left the two of you happy
and you’d annoy him with random facts about your day until he’d talk to you
“and then this afternoon i was talking to nina about-”
“okay okay y/n please let’s talk about something else no more nina stories, i know too much about her as it is”
so even though ketterdam was your home and kaz’s
after a few years the two of you moved to the country side, only an hour from ketterdam but still far enough away that it felt like your own little world
kaz would make a weekly trip to the city to check on things but you were his priority
finding peace for once was his priority
you and kaz had known each other for years
so even though some days physical contact was hard, you had helped him get to a place that touching was normal between the two of you
the best thing about married life was waking up next to kaz
being able to turn around in the morning and wake up to his face
his arm thrown over your waist
his mouth slightly parted
and you’d wait until the woke up to see him realize you were next to him and see how his smile took over his face
“it’s creepy that you watch me sleep y/n”
“i can’t help it, my husband it gorgeous”
living together
being married to each other
obviously came with bickering
little fights about leaving the door unlocked
or forgetting to add toilet paper to the grocery list
but those fights ended in mumbled apologizes and frantic kisses and lots and lots of giggling into each other’s mouths
both of you had a bad habit of fidgeting with your wedding rings
the matching gold bands were a total comfort item for the two of you
every time you were anxious you twisted it around your finger until kaz came and held your hands still
and every time kaz watched you do something totally mundane that made him fall in love all over again he’d rub the wedding band as a reminder of how lucky he got
inside the bands, the others initials were carved in
but in your band the words ‘yours forever” were also added
even though the two of you now lived your happy domestic lives
trying out new cake recipes and having lazy sundays together
kaz brekker was still the dirty hands you had fallen in love with back at the barrel
and sometimes he needed to get his hands dirty
once every couple of months he’d come back to the house
his lip torn and his limp worse then usual, his shirt covered in what you prayed was someone else’s blood
you’d sit him on the counter and stand between his legs, disinfecting any cuts
“sorry” he’d mumble
as if he had anything to be sorry for
“you have nothing to be sorry for. i love all versions and parts of you. as long as you come back home in one piece you don’t have to apologize to me ever”
kaz still couldn’t understand how you were able to love the version of him that did anything to survive
being married comes with certain questions
those questions mostly coming from jesper fahey himself
“so, kaz, y/n, the favorite couple of ketterdam, when can we expect little kaz’s running around?”
wylan would slap his own forehead in utter disappointment of his husbands inappropriate questions
the two of them had a little girl they had adopted a few years back
and you loved her to death
and though kaz was much more reluctant to hold the little girl and kiss her
you’d once heard him telling her that he would hurt anyone that ever threatened her
he was her uncle and godfather after all
you always blushed at jesper’s questions about children
brushing off the comment
not bringing it up again
but one night, after spending the day with wylan and jesper
kaz whispered, “we could be parents”
you turned to him ready to find a ‘just kidding’ look on his face
but he had been staring at the ceiling
total seriousness
“do you want to be a dad?”
he had nodded his head, still not looking at you
“then you’ll be a dad”
his head had snapped your way and his smile made everything the two of you had ever suffered through worth it
“i want a son” he had laughed into the crook of your neck after showering your face with kisses
you scoffed teasingly, “and if i want a girl?”
being married to kaz was beautiful
and even though kaz couldn’t see it
this is what he deserved
this peace and domestic happiness
and the promise of a future with you

There's Something About Kate (Cillian Murphy X fem!OC) - Part Three
Warning - mentions of character death / angst

A week had passed since Cillian closed the door. Literally.
"I don't understand, he seemed so keen?" Nina said that Saturday afternoon.
"Are you still talking about this?" Kate rolled her eyes as she prepared a dinner for the two of them.
"Yes! And I don't understand why you're being so flippant about it! He literally shut the door in your face and he's ghosted you for a week."
"He's clearly not ready for a relationship yet, and it's not fair to pressure him."
Nina sighed and watched her friend chop vegetables and marinade chicken. The girl hadn't stopped all week - in-between shifts she'd taken up volunteering at the local library, as well as off the clock shopping trips for some of her patients. She knew Kate's coping mechanisms like the back of her hand, and she could recognise the signs of her struggling with something. But she also knew not to push her. She'd open up when she was ready to, not a second before.
************************************************************
"Dad, can we go to the zoo this weekend? Maybe Kate could come too?" Ava asked as they walked through the front door on their way home. Their Friday routine - school pickup, cemetery visit, fresh flowers, then dinner at the café on the way home.
He looked at his daughter and gave her a small smile. She looked so much like Lucy, it almost pained him. Her hair was getting lighter too, just like hers. Her features were identical, apart from her piercing blue eyes. He sat on the sofa and rubbed his eyes.
"Ava, come sit a sec," he patted the space next to him on the couch and Ava gave him that look. The one he got when he did something that pissed her off.
"Dad...!" She groaned, flailing her arms dramatically in the air.
"What?"
"You only EVER say those words in that tone of voice when you're about to tell me something I don't wanna hear."
"Ava..."
"Why, Dad?"
He looked to the floor, then out the window, but was pulled out of his mini daydream by his daughter sitting on the couch and hitting his shoulder.
"Ouch?"
"Your own fault."
"Come on, Ava, it's not that simple."
"You like her. She likes you. What's the problem?"
"It's complicated Ava."
"Because of mum?"
Cillian looked to the floor again, fighting his emotions and swallowing down the lump in his throat. Ava had grown up so much, and so quickly, since Lucy died, it scared him. His little girl, the one who used to sit on his shoulders as they walked home from school, who would play with his hair and try and plait it when he grew it longer for films and plays he was in... She wasn't as little and innocent as a 9 year old should be, and it broke his heart.
"Yeah. Because of mum," he said, quietly. He felt her little hand in his, and she squeezed it as tight as she could.
"You might not get another one," she said, quoting Lucy's letter to him. She'd read it before he did, a few months after her funeral. He'd hidden it in his bedside drawer, unable to read it's contents, but Ava had found it when he asked her to get his glasses for him one night before they watched a movie together. He didn't know she'd read it until she started quoting lines from it - it seemed the girl had as good a memory for the written word as her old man did. He read it shortly after, and suddenly the 'random' things she'd started saying to him made sense.
He couldn't be angry with her. He'd have done the same. The letter was in her handwriting - she was curious, and she just missed her mum.
He did too.
He nodded silently, wrapping an arm over her shoulders and pulling her close. Her little arms wrapped around his torso.
Still my little girl under that tough exterior, aren't you, he thought, smiling a little.
************************************************************
Lying in bed that night, he opened his bedside drawer and took out his mobile phone. He'd turned it off a week ago. He only left the house to do the school run, and he had a landline if his family needed to contact him. He didn't want any contact from anyone else. But what Ava said had played on his mind all evening. From Lucy's letter.
"You might not get another one."
Was he ready? He certainly thought he was, until Liane turned up and threw him back down into the pit of despair he'd managed to drag himself out of over the last 12 months.
Turning it on and heading to the bathroom to brush his teeth, he could hear it vibrating with notifications. Coming back in once he was done, he saw lots of texts from Liane. Scrolling through them, he felt his chest tightening again.
"She'd be turning in her fucking grave."
"You backstabbing piece of shit."
"Bet you were fucking her while your wife lay dying in that hospital bed, weren't you?"
"SCUMBAG."
He was about to turn his phone back off again when he stopped.
A message from Kate, last Friday night, after he shut the door in her face. Just one message. No missed calls, not the 'hundreds of texts' he thought he'd see from her. Just one simple message.
"I'm here for you. Whenever you're ready. Kx"
He knew he needed to move past what Liane had said to him. He knew that. And there was only one person who'd managed to help him see sense, without any judgement, over the last year.
Opening his messaging app, he typed a text to his brother.
"Coffee tomorrow?"
"Make it a beer tomorrow night and I'm in. Ava can have a sleepover at ours, I'm crashing in your spare room."
Cillian chuckled to himself - tomorrow night was clearly going to be messy...

the caller you have reached (chris evans x reader)
pairing: chris evans x fem!reader
summary: chris was trying to drunkenly call the woman he loved and wanted to get back with but instead he reaches you, a shrink.
warning: swearing (sailor level), brief mentions of mental health
**IMPORTANT disclaimer: I won't be dabbling into the hard hitting topics of mental health in this short only because I'm not a certified health professional and so I can't be providing a written, unbiased, often characterized diagnosis towards any sort of mental health disorder because really, those types of sensitivities need proper care and output. With that being said, I do want to emphasize the notions of seeking help and not being afraid to seek help when needed. It's hard, but we all fight a battle and no battle is big or small or better or worse.
If my followers or readers do feel the need to privately chat with me, I'm here and I can you lend you an ear. Otherwise let's be kind and uplift another while we can. No harm in doing good and being better, that's for sure!
-end rant-
This short is dedicated to the following lovelies:
@princess-evans-addict
@mrs-djokovic
@slut-for-chris-evans
@saltyflowermakertaco
@bitchyslut99
@patzammit
@itskikiyooo
@maximeevansblog
Being a working adult is dreadful but the work you do is the most fulfilling kind of anarchy. You are a therapist, you work to heal and you work together with people who willingly reach out to you and your facility of care. There is that balance, the altering nuances in between that allows you to do what you do best. You advocate for good prosperity of mental health and accolade of teachable moments that fosters a safe space for your clients, not patients, but the people who deserve to be heard and not be medically categorized.
Your salubrious passion keeps you grounded. In your lifetime, you've seen the imperial impacts of poor mental health and it has been a detrimental drive in how you retreat and give back to a small found community.
"Okay." You exhale to yourself while leafing through another client chart. You're working off the clock, stuck in the renaissance of your homey office space while the outside world turns pitch black.
In the appropriate fields you jot down important takeaways from your last sit in session with heavy concertation and reasoning, you try to congregate a treatment plan all before you cellphone cries for you in venturous fashion.
"Hello?" You answer without checking the caller ID, tucking the device between your ear and shoulder so that way you could work and talk.
"Jenny!" The man boisterously shouts. "Jenny baby please talk to me! Let me make it up to you, let's just do this right, please. I'm fucked up here."
"I'm sorry but you have the wrong number." You infringe sounding like the posh, automated answering machine lady.
"Oh what the fuck Jenny — oh cah'mon don't do that, don't be like that baby." You re-verify a local number and it doesn't belong to anyone you know of. So you wonder who this man is but choose not to press further instead you tell him what is right from the knowing wrong.
"I'm not Jenny."
"Seriously?" He yells, forcing you to hold the phone away from your ear. "That can't be... This is—" He recites the number that is similar to yours but the last two digits are off.
"You got 42, not 53." It's an easy mistake to recall, a swipe of a drunken thumb could've mixed that up, so this time around, you're forgiving. Not that it happens often.
"Oh no. That's—" The mystery man trails, something about his voice discerns you, it's familiar but in a hindbrain way that you can't put a finger on. "Fuuuuuuuck."
"Wait hold on, hold up, is this Jenny's assistant, Nina?" You exhale sharply sometimes it takes more than one try and a side of convincing to get your point across and your passiveness was certainly to blame.
"No I'm not her assistant either."
"Then who the hell are you?" He exasperates. You make the snide mistake of telling him your name and he buffers for a bit.
"Oh. So you really aren't anyone of my concern then?"
"No." You mildly retort. "I wouldn't want to be anyways."
"Okay well I'm not sorry then because I'm here trying to reach my girlfriend and I can't get to her because I have you on the line being a smartass." With that accent of his you can tell he's a patriotic Bostonian. One of your own kind and that furloughs your need to engage in this mindless drivel, it wouldn't get you or him anywhere. At least that's what you tell yourself before shutting him down.
"Well then maybe you should learn to listen first, how about that?" You snap, dropping your pen before you note down angry nonsense into your actual work.
"Hey nowwww!" He yells as if he's trying to be Hank Kinsley.
"It's clear that you're drunk."
He brushes you off on the other end, enigmatic in what he wants you to know. "This is Chris Evans, you're talking to Chris-motherfucking-Evans, you hear?"
"I do now." You say tersely.
"Good." He huffs. "Good... Cause you know I'm in the middle of bumfuck nowhere and this is what I get. This is what I seemingly deserve, god you women I swear..."
Your face changes. You don't agree to be a lending ear but somehow Chris forces you to hear him out.
"I told her Y/N. I TOLD her that I wasn't ready to take the next step but that doesn't mean that I don't want to be with her. And now she throws it back in my face by getting with some other guy she once dated back in high school. And somehow, I'm supposed to be ok with it and move on, as she tells me. How the hell am I supposed to do that, huh?"
"I, um, I don't know what to tell you." You sigh somberly.
"Of course you don't!" His Boston twang begins to nerve you as there some remitting frequency of it. Hearing him obnoxiously go off, reminds you of all your shrewd New England exes who were his exact counterpart when soused. A ludicrous memory that you relive again with time and perfect harmony.
"Listen lady all I'm saying is that I fucked up. I know I did alright? I mean it doesn't take much denominational math and the plot of Lost in Translation to get that. I get it!"
Jesus. You whisper the lords name in vain as you lean your forehead against the palm of your hand while your elbow rested on top of the desk.
"So, let me get this straight, you think yelling at a random woman will help get further?" You question a little acutely for his liking.
"I don't know but it sure as hell takes off the heat, sweetheart." Something about a man calling you sweetheart grinds your gears and now your molars.
"Okay, alright, let's talk." You begin, sitting up a bit and tearing out a blank page from your memo pad; you were doing a late night consultation, a small hash out.
"Schuwaaaaa." Chris enunciates the word sure and to much of his mayhem, he’s sprawled out on the curbside, somewhere in the nowhere land of L.A. He contented but also upset and you were simply crashing his little pity party.
"What is it that you want from Jenny?" You professionally prod. "How about we start there."
"Wooooah, what is that we're doing here?” Chris gets mildly defensive with you. “I dunno you like that. If we're gonna talk then you'll have to get through my publicist first because right now I plead the fifth.”
You exhale a deep and fulsome breath. No one troubles you like him. It's sanctimoniously unnerving.
"I'm a shrink, my job isn’t meant to incriminate my clients well-being, or anyone else’s for that matter.” You address calmly. “So, if you do require some solicited advice then we can keep this call under strict confidence. You have my word, Mr. Evans and the paperwork that will follow shortly after this call.”
Silence. There is some shocking silence which is brief before you're catapulted with disbelief and more cackles. "Holy mother fucking shit. You're kidding me?"
"I can run you by my credentials if you’d like?” You mention stiffly.
"God I’ve reached a cuckoo hotline!" Wrong. That's a horrible thing to say and you'd think a man like him would've been more sensitive about his choice of words, inebriated or not.
"Far from it."
"Tell me something, alright? How many grown, adult men come crying to you?" Chris is edging with curiosity even though his eyes are betrayingly reddened after crying into a bottle of Dewars 18. He doesn't make that known to you and you never cared to ask.
"Enough to know that they cry." You simply state.
"Huh. So this is just another Tuesday for you then.” Chris scoff, the bottle making it to his lips and then swishing back down again.
"Comes with the territory except I don't tolerate drunkenness." You motely add. "Can you keep the bottle aside for the time being? Just until we're done here."
"That's understandable and oh yeah sure, sure, I won't touch it." You can hear the glass bottle 'clink' when coming into contact with the pavement.
"Now tell me about Jenny." You softly inquire.
"What do you wanna know? How we fuck or how we met?" Chris giggles like a naughty school yard boy.
"How did you two meet?" You slam the words urgently, nearly spelling out the cause.
"Oh! Oh. We met on the job." Chris chuckles punitively.
"Okay and did you guys connect instantly or was there a slow build up?" You involuntarily took notes for any PR rep of his that wanted solid evidence that would preside this call, cover your bases and your poor ass along with it.
"Instantly. Our chemistry read was off the charts." He explains with a slight hiccup. "Sorry."
"Great. So it was more so a work relationship that later grew into something more correct?"
"Pretty much."
"So when did you start developing feelings for her?"
"Um I'd say..." Chris tucks his chin, burps and then excuses himself before continuing. "Just before we wrapped up filming. But then I think somewhere in between all that I realized that she was my kind of girl, my... better half."
"And what made you come to that realization?"
"Well for one she has this infectious laugh that would have you laughing with her, there's that sound of beauty and pureness to it. And then with that, there were all the little things she'd do for me that made me think, like damn she's the one, she's it for me and that for better or for worse, I'd need her more than she'd ever need me."
Chris gets sad and you feel for him. Your pen stops moving when you were about to prescribe him some mind memory exercises. He was human. Humans hurt. Humans make mistakes. Humans stray but they also love. That's all Chris did. He loved with all of his heart to not expect the same love in return.
"You know Chris, we don't always get the love we deserve and sometimes its sucks. Sometimes you wanna kick it back with a bottle of Dewars 18 and shake your fists in the air." Chris quietly perks up at your choice of alcohol that you didn't know he was forcefully downing. He fashions a small half smile that you don't see but hear faintly. "But there's also a time and a place and things happen, people come apart, people get together, people do people and there's that fine line of letting life run its uneven course."
"I mean you sometimes have to not be okay to be okay again and I know that from my many years of helpful healing. It gets okay, never fully better and I think that's just how it is. You acknowledge your pain, your trauma and then you go on while being mindful of that transition."
"Wow."
"Hey, um, look, I actually have to get going. But if you can, just down the rest of that bottle and get yourself home."
"Are you sure?" Chris gawks.
"I mean you were already halfway through and it's not like I can physically stop you, right? And besides this is what I'm prescribing to you. I want you to acknowledge your pain, drink away your sorrows and then smash that bottle so you can be relieved from that trauma and hurt. After that you need to fix up and start new, have a mature conversation with her, if you can and then have your feet hitting the ground again. Don't fall into the routine of heartbreak even if it becomes too hard, you hear me?"
"Loud and clear."
"Good." You sniff and start to put things away. "I know you're a good guy Chris, from how you are on TV and in interviews, I'm amazed by how articulate you are. You have the right mindset so I have no doubts that you'll fall back in any way. But if you do, please don't hesitate to reach out, I might have to hand you off to another cohort but nonetheless it can be worked out even if it does feel like you might be sparring on your own. You'll get the help you need."
"Great, thanks." Chris responds in his conscious state of thought. He feels pathetic with himself and that doesn't have you galling over the fact, instead you let him be.
"Do you need me to order you an Uber? Cab? Call a friend for ya?" You laugh easily and Chris hears it clearly, smiling in return.
"An Uber would be nice. I'll try to share you my location."
"Sure, on me and that'd be great."
"Thanks."
"No problem... And your ride should be here in two minutes, just look out for Raul in black Elantra." You inform him after checking your phone.
"Nice."
"You have a goodnight now Chris."
"You too." The line cuts and you're given a piece of your life back. You gather your belongings, flip off the light switch and make your way home. There's some truth and some brokenness in every situation. You knew Chris was going to be OK even if he didn't consult you afterwards. For you, there was no need. He's a smart man and he proves this over a prolonged period of time when he finally finds himself back on the market and then eventually in a relationship with a faceless and very loving woman from his own hometown.
He was finally happy, making you serendipitously glad that you were the caller he had reached.

Hi anon, thanks for the ask. I'm doing very well, been super busy because I'm currently moving but it's all good. I have plenty of great domestic/established relationship cherik fics for you. I hope you enjoy!!
Domestic/Established Relationship cherik
Daycare ‘Verse’ – orphan_account, pocky_slash
Summary: A modern AU in which Charles runs a mutant daycare and Erik is his long-suffering engineer boyfriend.
Runs in the Family – Anonysquirrel (chibirisuchan)
Summary: Alex knew his own reputation. Hell, he'd started some of his own reputation, because it kept some of the smarter thugs off his back. Everyone knew Alex's reputation. There was no way Hank didn't know his reputation, but he'd brought Alex into a house with some really expensive things and a lot of innocent little kids and his too-friendly, too-harmless dad.
But clearly Hank hadn't told his family anything about Alex, just like he hadn't told Alex anything about his family. At least, not about the brain-breaking parts of his family.
"I didn't know where to start," Hank said, for the dozenth time.
Gift of the Magi, But Screw it Up – librata
Summary: He doesn't know if he's buying too much, too little, or even the right things at all, because he's never entertained a guest as important as Edie Lehnsherr.
Making perfect – aesc
Summary: As is the case with most trials in Erik's life, this one starts with Charles gazing beseechingly at him and asking him for a favor. Not that their going-on-three years relationship is a trial, even though it started with Charles giving Erik the full benefit of sad blue eyes and asking him if he wouldn't mind opening his car door since he'd locked his keys inside, but still.
Continue firm and constant – aesc
Summary: Moira hasn't seen her old partner in saving the world from threats human and intergalactic, Erik Lehnsherr, for a few years. When she finally does see him again, she finds a man different from the one who's been with her down in the dark and the dirt and the blood... or maybe he isn't so different after all.
After School Special – listerinezero
Summary: Charles was barely seventeen and Erik was his social studies teacher. But after almost fifteen years together, does it really matter how they met?
Terrifying Domesticity – ishipitsobad
Summary: Erik is the most dangerous and notorious mafia boss around for miles, and yet the strangest things terrify him.
For example: his children, and his very pregnant mate.
Trying is Half the Battle – Pookaseraph
Summary: Post-Cuba, no divorce, Charles and Erik are in an established relationship and when Charles gets sick with a random flu bug, they discover that Charles can get pregnant. They then try to get pregnant, and try, and try.
We’ll all be gone for the summer – pocky_slash
Summary: Charles and Erik's usual family beach vacation gets a little bigger when they agree to watch Erik's teenaged twins for the summer. Charles is looking forward to a chance to bond with his step-children. Erik is terrified of screwing them up even more.
A Summer Day So Late in Coming – helens78
Summary: Fifty years after they fell in love, Erik comes to Charles with a proposal that rocks Charles's world.
Still Going Strong – JackyJango
Summary: Speaking of forty-eight, Erik hates it. Hates it even more that others are aware of it. While he’s pragmatic enough to know and accept that aging is inexorable, the increase in number gives the people around him the freedom to pounce at him with questions, opinions and advice he'd fought to keep at bay all year.
Besides, Erik believes that youth is a state of mind, not a phase in one’s life.
You have a child’s mind in a man’s body, Charles constantly tells him.
But despite his age, Erik is healthy. He works out daily. His muscles are steel and he can dead-lift four hundred pounds. He can break bones without breaking a sweat. Most importantly, he can still carry Charles to the bedroom and fuck him senseless. And as long as Erik can do that, he’s perfectly happy.
Before You Attempt Me (Fair Warning) – kianspo
Summary: Charles helps Raven get ready for the prom. Surprisingly, that part goes well. The prom itself not so much. Erik cooks a lot of unhealthy comfort foods and is incredibly patient. Charles mostly frets about everything, until Erik does something neither he, nor Raven see coming.
And now you will not be alone any more – pocky_slash
Summary: Erik gives driving, sewing, and cooking lessons, soothes nightmares, bolsters self-esteem, and still can't figure out why Charles keeps smiling at him like that.
Some sense of touch and a melody – pocky_slash
Summary: On a day when Charles, for once, finds himself saying the right thing to everyone he sees, he allows himself to be talked into a field trip to a local orchard.
It’s kind of our whole thing – pearl_o, pocky_slash
Summary: After two years of best friendship, Charles and Erik thought they knew everything there was to know about each other. They're surprised, then, when their first summer as a couple reveals that they have a lot to learn about each other and themselves.
Indulgence – grim_lupine
Summary: “The children are still asleep,” Charles murmurs groggily, flinging an arm out as if searching for Erik beside him. “The house is still standing, this is a ghastly hour, and more importantly, I’m still here. Why do you insist on doing this every morning?”
Your Father’s Daughter – ConsultingWriter
Summary: Wanda proves just how much she takes after Erik.
Pietro reeled back before leaning back in "They didn't tell you what happened? Wanda got in a fist fight and totally wailed on this guy, I mean, on one hand I feel kinda embarrassed for him, but it was so epic."
Erik's eyebrows shot to his hairline. Wanda got in a fight? That was....surprising, to say the least. Wanda tended to take after Charles in temperament and preferred talking to violence.
This Crazy Game Called Life – chiasmus
Summary: Raven declares game night in the mansion. Sean finds an elephant, Erik inherits one hundred unwanted cats, and Charles scars Hank for life with misdirected dirty thinking. This is five thousand-something words of crack with a dose of schmoop. I'm not sorry. Written for this kink meme prompt: Raven is tired of the boys going off to play chess (if they're even playing chess!) and pulls out a load of board games from one of the closets in the mansion. Madness ensues.
To my roomba with love – sareyen
Summary: There are a lot of things that Erik loves about Charles. He loves all of the obvious things; Charles’s kindness, his intelligence, his laughter, his eyes. He also loves the little private things; the way Charles sneaks Erik his unwanted tomatoes, his warbled opera singing in the shower, that sensitive spot on his hip.
And he loves the silly things about Charles, especially the way the man has a habit of talking to inanimate objects when he thinks no one is looking. Charles has conversations with the kettle, the washing machine, and their roomba – and every time Erik eavesdrops on him, he falls in love with the man a little bit more.
Everything About it is a Love Song – pocky_slash
Summary: Erik's spent fifty years being a figurehead and he's ready to leave that behind. Luckily, so is Charles.
(aka Old Retired Dudes in Love)
A Very Xavier-Lehnsherr Christmas – zamwessell
Summary: Erik is discovering new things about Charles Xavier all the time. Charles sometimes talks in his sleep. Often about food. Occasionally in Latin. Charles has a scar on his left thigh from attempting to demonstrate relativity to a girl by sitting on a hot stove. Charles doesn’t mean to be so loud when they make love, but sometimes Charles can’t help himself.
Charles is a voracious reader. Charles has an unspeakably filthy imagination. Charles will try anything in bed twice to make sure he wasn’t wrong the first time.
Charles is unexpectedly fond of Christmas. Perhaps that is not the phrase. “Unhealthily obsessed” might be better.
The fluffiest holiday fluff you ever read in your dang life.
Of Crabs and Castles – flightinflame
Summary: Charles and Erik take their children to the beach. Wanda builds a sandcastle, Nina makes some friends, and Pietro gets some exercise. Some family fun in the sunshine.
Bring Your Daughter To Work Day – listerinezero
Summary: Charles brings three year old Lorna to class with him.
Glasses – grim_lupine
Summary: Charles blinks at him bemusedly, but Erik barely notices because Charles is wearing glasses— wire-rimmed, and Erik can feel the metal humming, traces without touch the way they follow the curve of Charles’s nose and rest behind his ears.
Genetics Isn’t Sexy – pocky_slash
Summary: Charles lectures. The kids aren't very responsive. Erik, on the other hand....
Peanut Butter and Honey (The Fairytale Remix) – pocky_slash
Summary: Once upon a time there was a Princess named Anya who lived in a house with her Daddy and her wicked stepmother Charles. (A wicked stepmother is the person who comes and lives with princesses and their daddies after their mommies go away.) She had a best friend named Leroy, and one day he was lost.
The Bystander (The Consultant (aka A Westchester Telepath in the Avengers Tower) Remix) – Nanimok
Summary: When it comes to Professor Charles Xavier, telepath, SHIELD consultant and compulsive flirt, no one is safe.
Not even the Big Three.
