Kabedon gone wrong ft BSD Men

Ft: Dazai Osamu, Nakahara Chuuya, Nakajima Atsushi, Oda Sakunosuke, Fyodor Dostoevsky.

Warning: crack, fluff, some suggestive contents, a bonus ft 15!Dazai & Chuuya. Fuck off if you're tryna file a complaint on me.

Dazai

He knows what this is. Ofc, what do you expect from this man?

Will try that out even when you two are at the ADA. He doesn't give a damn about his co-workers covering Kyouka's eyes.

Might use that to initiate a make out session in the office.

His style is using one hand to trap you as his other lift your chin up so your eyes are locked.

"Uh...Osamu..? What are you doing?"

You knew that moment when you asked Dazai whether he knows what a kabedon is, you fucked up. As by now, you're trapped between the Agency's nearest wall and your beloved Dazai's arm.

His free hand spare no mercy as he grabbed your chin, forcing you to look into his eyes. If not for the ruckus everyone else is causing in the background, you could've focus more on those brown orbs you adore so much, but alas, this isn't your shared apartment, but the Agency, and well, Kyouka is there too.

Your background was a Kunikida who had broke his who-knows-how-many pen in this week, a Yosano in the back sighing as she was covering innocent Kyouka's eyes. At the same time, the Tanizaki siblings were reacting differently, as Naomi were fangirling over the scene, her "I want you to do that too, dear brother~" didn't went unheard, Tanizaki, on the other hand was flushing as he tries to refuse his little sister. The luckiest thing were probably Atsushi was accompanying Kenji out for a job, while Ranpo was too busy munching on his snacks, though the scene didn't went unnoticed to our great detective.

"Now, what do you say we continue this later, just you and me in our bedroom, hm?"

Dazai whispers in your ears, right before Kunikida strangles the man as he dragged him away, claiming he won't let that bandage-wasting-device ruin the perfect scenery of the office anymore.

Chuuya

He knows what this is, like Dazai. But due to the height (dis)advantage, he may or may not perform this to his lovely s/o.

If you beg him till he deems enough, he may consider giving you what you want, but would be a little different.

He'll use his leg to trapped you instead, so instead of a kabedon we'll have a ashidon. Oops?

Jokes aside, I personally think he'll be using one hand and one leg on both side so you cannot escape.

"Your... wish is my command, princess."

You could've swore you felt him sighing as he press on each syllable. And how did this happen again? It kinda cost you a bottle or two of Chuuya's favorite wine, plus one night with you wearing his favorite lingerie set, which of course, he chose that out for you himself. All of that, just for a fleeting moment of recreating your favorite scene in a certain shoujo manga. Was it all worth it?

But right now, as you, trapped between the ginger and the wall, you felt no regret. It wasn't exactly like how you imagine it would be, as he traps you with a hand on this side, and a leg on the other side, supposedly due to your lover's (dis)advantage of heights. But it's counted, right? This still count as a kabedon, right?!

You could saw his smirk, the one he always did before he beats up the enemies, and that moment you knew you fucked up. Chuuya took his chance while you were still loading and leaned in, his face unbelievable close to yours, "You wouldn't mind if I claim my payment right here, would you?"

Oda

God. This man. Where do I even start?

Like our boi sushi, he won't know what this is until he asked his friend Dazai.

Definitely not Dazai laughing his ass off in the bar while Oda is just like "Oh, i understand now." as if nothing just happened.

Man is a walking pole I tell you so he'd definitely be able to do this without flaws.

His style will be using both hands as he leans close enough to kiss you, leaving no escape, the pressure from this man feel like he's going to eat us-

When you first asked Oda for a kabedon, you honestly didn't think it'll be something like this. He admitted that he didn't know what that is, so at time like this, Oda'd seek help from his best friend. Dazai, was more than happy to assist him in this, so the two spent a whole night at Lupin studying about kabedon, while Ango in the back refuse to add this 'weird' knowledge.

So when the tutoring session end, Oda decided to try his newly acquired skill on you, like you asked for. You, caged in between his hands, your back was against the bedroom wall, the red-ish hue on your cheeks didn't went unnoticed as Oda leans in to steal your lips for a brief moment.

As you would describe, Oda's kiss taste like adulthood, filled with bitterness. The slight taste of caffeine and the harsh, painful taste of cigarettes, mixed with a hue of whiskey, just like him. And you love it, you love the addicting bitterness you can never get enough, and the mafioso loves that sweet, not-so-innocent taste of yours as well.

But worry not, for the night is still young. And who's to say Oda will let you go that easy?

Atsushi

Needs to be persevered.

Too precious for his own good.

He mistook that for a type of rice bowl at first but after Dazai explains what it is (cue the whole ADA holding their laughter in the background) sushiboi almost fainted.

The first time is kinda awkward so you had to show him how it's done.

Kinda backfired on him, poor boy-

"(y/n)..? What are you doing?!"

The white-haired flinched slightly as you cornered him to the nearest wall, hands on both side so he can't run away.

"Showing you how it's done, of course!"

Earlier today, when Dazai was talking about kabedon down the cafe, Atsushi couldn't help but ask what was that. Maybe the tiger's fur has, erm, overgrown in the ear, so that's why he mistook it as a new kind of ricebowl. Dazai was staring for a good while before burst out in laughter, which quickly spread to the Tanizaki siblings, and Yosano, even the infamous detective Ranpo, who was currently enjoying his parfait had to pause a bit so he can join the wagon.

You were running an errand so by the time you came back, everything has ended, but luckily for you, you have Naomi at your back! She told you everything, even that part later on when Dazai had to explain what a kabedon is to Atsushi. So an idea popped up in that small, mischievous head of your. Why not show him how it's done?

And that leads us back to the present as you were cornering Atsushi, the pinkish hue spreaded all over you two's cheeks. Yet what surprised you was that Atsushi decided it's his time to strike back as he leans up and claim your lips. The sudden act made the gears in your head stopped, inevitably, your hands slowly slipping off their positions, so he took that as a chance to grab your wrist and pinned you down the mattress.

"You know, (y/n). I am a man too, and as they said, men are hungry wolves. So why don't you let me have a taste then?"

Fyodor

This man? Yes, he speaks Japanese fluently, even better than a Japanese person even. But when it comes to culture and stuffs he's a complete fool.

Luckily for him, the (beloved) clown is there to assist!

Nikolai gave him a private tutoring session later, he even prepares some documents (shoujo manga) to help his friend understand faster, though I doubt this is needed with his intelligence...

After the tutoring session, he'd achieved the level of a almost-perfect kabedon. With one hand and one leg on both side, his free hand is free to lift your chin, as you were forced to lock eyes with him, he'll take no time but lean in for a quick, chaste kiss that's just enough to make you yearn for more.

When it comes to this foreign language, Fyodor is confident that he doesn't sound one bit like an outsider. But he doesn't pay that much focus to culture and anything else, because to him, language is just an another tool he uses to achieve his utmost goal.

So when you first brought up the topic of a 'kabedon', he had no idea what that is. But Nikolai, who was, coincidentally present at the moment, decided to jump in, "No worries! I'll teach you everything you need, Dos-kun!" before dragging his best friend somewhere else.

And the jester stays true to his words, as he brought out everything you need for a, erm, lesson? From illustration to videos as examples, even a dummy from where ever the hell he keeps it. He has everything he needed, and to make it even more, fancier, as he claimed, Nikolai even took them out from his cloak, just like Dora*mon.

Results? Well, now you can enjoy the feeling of a shoujo manga heroine with your beloved man, as he had mastered the art of kabedon, with one hand on the side, and one leg on the other side, the demon can seize the chance to grab your chin, forcing your eyes to met his violet irises, which you once told him they're like a kind of drugs, since once you've gaze upon them, you could never escape.

As you lost yourself in his eyes, Fyodor had his lips pressed against your in a swift movement, but the moment didn't last long, as the kiss were quick to come and quick to leave as well. But then there comes another chaste kiss, follows by another, leaving you hungry for more.

"I have to admit, I do enjoy your helpless state, myshka. Why don't you show me more?"

15!Dazai + 15!Chuuya

You were going to try this out on them, but it backfired, of course. And now we have an uno reverse card situation. But again, who wouldn't want to be sandwiched between these two?

Who would've knew a small shenanigans of your could lead to such huge consequences? You, trapped between the most powerful duo of Port Mafia, and maybe the whole Yokohama even.

It was when your braincells decided they're gonna take a break for today and let the stupid part do all the work, so as you three were in Dazai's office, you, out of all questions decided to ask them about kabedon. The two young boys exchanged a look before nonchalantly replies in unison,

"No. Care to teach us?"

If it were to be your everyday self, you would've refuse because there is absolutely no way they can't know what it is. Unfortunately, your braincells are on their vacation, and you waltzed right in their hands. So you asked them to stand over the nearest wall, and after struggling for a good while, congratulations, you managed to trapped the two in your arms. Their backs pressed against the wall as your hands rested right by the side of their heads,

"I guess... It looks like this?"

Before you could leave, or could even register what was happening, Dazai and Chuuya had quickly pulled you back. As by now you became the trapped one, Dazai on your right and Chuuya on your left, they tower over your body.

"I think it's our turn now. Don't ya think so?"

Followed by Chuuya's words, a kiss was placed on both side of your cheeks. You couldn't possibly imagine you, being toyed by two younger boys like this. But oh how the table had turned. Dazai, being the faster soon places a kiss on your lips, ignoring the complaints coming from the ginger.

"Now you are mine~"

"Hey! Since when was she yours, you suicidal freak?!"

Chuuya, didn't want to be left behind, suddenly pulls you towards him and claim your lips in a rougher manner comparing to his partner.

When you two parted, Dazai was holding onto you from behind, only now you see him acting like a true child. And Chuuya, who obviously doesn't want to lose, holding you close to him,

"Until you can choose, would you be ours?"

a/n: always happy to write for my beloved cat man!

it was extremely uncommon for two person to possess the same ability, but it wasn't entirely impossible. and meeting someone who shared the same ability as you was even rarer. so when natsume met you he believed more than anything that this was fate.

out of all abilities, the last one he'd expect to see two of was his. and maybe it was the fact you both were 'cat-shifters' that made you instantly click with one another - but whatever it was, you two got along almost too well.

the perks of sharing the same ability with your lover were endless. you both had the same level of power, one that allowed you two to spend time wandering around yokohama, taking in the stunning sights in the night time glow completely uninterrupted, just the two of you. and it made it all the much easier for natsume to be with you without putting your life in danger.

he had many people after him and anyone seen associated with him would surely become targeted. and he'd hate for you to be caught in his issues, especially if you were a civilian. but who would think to suspect a calico and his accompanying feline?

but maybe he did like to take you with him to keep an eye on some people, he did enjoy your company after all. you found the small bar quite charming. sure the alleyway outside was a little off putting but the bar had a charm to it. natsume had given you a quick run down about the people he was looking out for, and he told you to avoid the younger one for he had a nullification ability and that'd surely be awkward.

when you two first arrived, the bar was empty apart from the bartender who recognised your lover's cat form and simply offered you a slight smile. not too long after you both had gotten comfied on one of the bar stools, the young boy he had told you about walked in. he seemed rather somber but warmed up slightly upon seeing the familiar calico.

he sat down a few stools away before turning his gaze toward your feline form. he smiled before commenting 'sensei mind introducing your 'friend' here?'. your lover simply pressed his forehead to yours in response. before dazai had the choice to say anything else, he heard the familiar footfall of oda approaching.

as soon as oda reached his view, he spun round with a big smile and said 'sensei has someone special with him today! best leave them be yeah?'. oda only smiled and gave a quick nod before sitting beside dazai. ango was greeted with a familiar warning and too chose to sat farther away from the sensei and his new 'friend'.

the trio would come to greet you with the same greeting they gave your lover - afterall you had become a regular appearance alongside the calico now. and everytime without fail, one of them would ask you two how things were going even though each time was met with silence - mainly dazai to no ones surprise.

and even in the future, if dazai ever decided to reminisce at the old bar he'd sometimes be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the calico and the very same feline companion. a lasting sense of familiarity for him, something that hasn't changed. and even when he saw you two elsewhere he couldn't help but smile.

Hideyoshi Sequel Preview

Spoilers and translation under the cut. Not 100% accurate

I decided to live in this turbulent world with my loved one一next to him, whom I love more than anything else.

However, suffering always follows us.

Hideyoshi: "I will destroy everything that threatens Mai."

Hideyoshi: "No one will touch my treasure."

Hideyoshi: "Are you guys ready?"

Despite the attack on Azuchi Castle, the appearance of a new enemy, and the numerous conflicts erupting in various parts of Japan, Hideyoshi's smile remained unchanged.

Hideyoshi: "You don't have to worry about me."

Hideyoshi: "I decided a long time ago that I would protect you."

Mai: "Okay."

(Hideyoshi always protects me and is always kind.)

Above all, he's kind, sweet, and welcoming.

With him, I can overcome anything.

That's what I thought.

Hideyoshi: "Kuh...!"

Mai: "Huh?"

(What just happened?)

Hideyoshi: "Mai, are you okay!?"

Mai: "I'm fine."

(I mean, I didn't feel anything, but一)

Hideyoshi: "Really? I'm glad to hear that."

People all over Azuchi threatened to kill me.

Kicho: "He will never forgive those who would lay their hands on you."

Kicho: "If Hideyoshi goes out of control, the balance of the Oda army will inevitably collapse."

Kicho: "Instead of making peace, he will start an altercation."

Hideyoshi: "Guh..."

Mai: "Hideyoshi, don't touch me!"

Hideyoshi: "This is nothing!"

The anomaly worsened, and my beloved turned into a demon amid the battle.

(The heavens and the people won't allow me to love this person.)

(Then, all the more...)

The only thing I could see amid my suffering was the best for Japan and the worst for me.

I try to move forward, but一

Hideyoshi: "I'll always comfort you, so you can cry as much as you want."

Hideyoshi: "It doesn't matter if we can't touch or look at each other. It doesn't matter if I get hurt. It's okay."

Hideyoshi: "I want you to stay in this world."

Hideyoshi: "Please. Let's live together, Mai."

I decided to live in this turbulent world with those I love一Next to him, whom I love more than anyone else.

So, no matter what happens, I should not give up on living.

Hideyoshi: "You taught me that this world is worth living in."

Hideyoshi: "My life feels so heavy now but pleasantly comfortable."

Even if we get hurt, we will face the same tomorrow together.

With this love, we will overcome everything.

I didn't know about this! It was a message from Oda about the TCG's release. Mostly fluff, but it's cute he's acting like he thought the characters come out of the cards like Yugioh. We're five sets in now. Six really since it's out in Japan. OP is my fifth TCG I've taken an interest in. The very well-designed but short lived Yuyu Hakusho one was done by this point. Magic with six sets is unrecognizable compared to the game it is today, same with Yugioh and Pokemon. I think they've managed it well so far. Cards from set 01 are far from outclassed. Keeping things built around leader archetypes is great for balance. But we are starting to get more complex.

The game is very fun, it's held up ecause the core mechanics are sound. It has a nice back-and-forth. A lot of games are won or lost on decisions to press the attack or hang back and build up for a bigger strike. Damage translating into who received it gaining cards is smart design. Opposite of Pokemon, where prize cards snowball a player doing well. If you give up on the early game damage and lock everything down, you have to usually survive a turn after you had to give your opponent 3-4 extra cards. Aggro gets a boon from not caring about early damage. Even when you're tapped out of resources most decks can still inch closer to a win or do something by loading up their leader on don and dropping a big attack.

Still think the "metagame" doesn't represent the best decks you can actually build yet. Seen it before, the card pool is outstripping people's experience. Too much focus on evaluating the best cards in a vacuum and just shoehorning those in. The designers have really done a great job working in fun ideas around some of these leaders. If you look at the full card list on the website it usually isn't hard to figure out which leader some of these are intended to work with. Don't feel like you need to chase the new hotness every step, this is definitely the type of game that rewards taking the time to learn every synergy and line of play a deck bult around a strong theme can get.

Collecting is fun too. I haven't done that in years. Dangling alternate arts for people that will throw thousands to have whatever the rarest cards are is great for accessibility. But there are so many cool promos! And it's always great to get a nice artwork for a beloved character. Even if it's just a game I play every now and then with my sweetie, it's weird...I just like having a deck to tweak or flipping through a binder. It's soothing. I'm glad I picked this up, looks like we'll have a local store starting up tournaments soon.

💋 — kissing

Okay, so if I had to do a ranking of my best kissers Oda would easily be in the top 3, although it'd be hard to place him confidently in the number 1 spot with competition like Laelin and Reshaper.

Kisses are actually one of his favorite forms of physical contact; he loves chaste and quick kisses a lot, but he adores slow make-outs with people even more-- he would do it on and off for hours given the opportunity to do so. He's the type that would offer to teach someone how to kiss if they said they didn't know how tbh...

As for his behavior while kissing someone, he's got a good sense of where to tilt his head, how much pressure to use, etc. Oda will often caress your face or hold you in some way while he kisses you to add to the experience, too.

💌 — romance/flirting

Flirting? He's a major flirt, like, to the point that it can actually end up kind of… misleading? Not intentionally, of course, but he's just Like That, so people who aren't used to it can get some heavily mixed signals. The biggest problem is when people think he's after a serious relationship as a result of his behavior, and then he has to turn them down… Also, he'll flirt with anyone from new acquaintances to good friends.

When Oda develops feelings for someone, his flirtation doesn't change much so it's pretty hard to tell if he has a crush on you or not. The only way you can sort of tell is if his flirtation seems to lean towards one quad in particular, but even then, it's not a guaranteed giveaway.

In terms of Romance, Odarem is a Romantic at heart. If he's in a relationship, he'll be happier in general, and even smile more genuinely more often. When showing romance in a relationship (and even before, if he gets a crush on you) he studies his partner's love languages and makes mental notes of what they receive best, then provides it! He caves quickly to his lovers and is willing to put them over his morals more than he likes to admit.

In terms of how Oda receives love, the answer is… not great. Well, he can handle it 'okay' in pitch and flush, but the biggest problem lies in Pale. If you show him pale affection, give tinges of or vacillate pale for him, then his body enters flight mode and he'll often recoil from it and draw back from you. He also doesn't take his own love languages into account and lets his partners show affection however comes naturally to them, regardless of how well he receives it/is impacted by it.

A huge flaw of his is that, in romance, he wants to show you love on a surface level and a deeply intimate one (often integrating pale affection into all of his quads, hypocritically), but he'd prefer if you kept your love for him more on the surface.

🎨 — art

He's… okay? He can draw almost any simple thing with enough clarity that you can recognize what he's trying to portray to you, like a bird, tree, or a playing card, but anything super exciting or detailed is lost on him. Still, more going on than stick figures. Oda also has unnervingly steady hands, so his lines will always be even, purposeful, and solid in whatever he draws.

💰 — finance

Fairly good! Odarem tends to set aside a little bit of money on a monthly basis and lets it build up a fund for anything emergency or unexpected.

Outside of that, he'll put whatever's needed into necessities and then use everything else he has on his friends or gives it away to other people without much care for not having spending money. He doesn't really buy himself luxuries often, if ever really. Plants might be the one exception to this, but he never has too many at once so it's not exactly high cost.

👊 — fighting

Answered here. But I will say that he has had basic fleet combat training, even if it's been... 30+ years since he's used it.

I still want Fukumura-san to be with us、I want to be Morning Musume。with all 14 members、but this day finally arrived。

Ever since Fukumura-san announced her graduation、we've all been making sure to treasure each and every day、but the time has just flown by。

The venue was filled with pink lights and Mizuki calls、and Fukumura-san looked super beautiful in her almost wedding dress style white and pink gradation dress with a long veil。

I'm really sad that my beloved Fukumura-san has graduated。

She always envelops us in kindness and love and I really love her。

That will absolutely never change。

She once told me、if she had been in the same class as Homare we'd have definitely been best friends、which made me so happy〜

We'll hang out together even now that she's graduated！！

We promised to go to a protein café！！

The lyrics made me feel like Homare has grown up a bit、and being able to sing this song together as a unit at the end of our tour will be a memory I'll treasure for the rest of my life。

So I didn't do it today、but if I'd done it today I know I would have just cried too much to talk so I think it's for the best that I did it yesterday。

I was tearing up in the final song but I wanted to send her off with a smile！

Starting tomorrow we'll have 13 members with Ikuta-san as our leader、and Ishida-san and Oda-san as our sub leaders。

I think of women as both people who are able to bring out the best in us men, and the place where we can become the best versions of ourselves. So to me, they’ll always be...

I went to see a stage performance an actress I worked with before was in. Seeing her on stage, the only thing that came to mind was how cool she seemed to be up there. She had a kind of vibe that was completely different from when we worked together. After the show, I went to her dressing room to say hi, my heart pounding in my chest. It didn't matter that she was someone I knew well enough to joke around with, I was a nervous wreck.

It's nice when a relationship you have with someone allows for that kind of tension. Just goes to show that the other person has a sort of charm you appreciate.

The first woman I've met is obviously none other than ma. She probably has a large influence on how I view women. Still, I'm not sure if that's the case for women that I end up liking. As far as I know, none of them look anything like her. A guy's gotta grow up, after all.

I've always liked people who seemed cool to me. That hasn't changed since I was little. It makes no difference whether they are male or female, when someone seems cool to me, it isn't about just physical aesthetics. Of course, when it comes type, I do tend to go for women based on various critieria like whether or not we match up height-wise, speech, scent, etc. But above all, what really does it for me is how much they appear to shine when they are deep in the process of doing something. That's why women absorbed in their work is something that I truly admire and seeing them in that state appeals to me so much and so often, it's basically my aesthetic.

The common saying of "I wanna do her" when seeing someone who appears sexy isn't something that'd cross my mind because when we like somebody, it isn't simply about that. In fact, when we truly admire someone, sex appeal is never a factor. There is zero need for women to do stuff like bring attention to their body line, or display their chest or wear short skirts that would maximize visual impact (like some do when they deliberately do that thing where they cross and recross their legs) to up their appeal. If anything, they appear sexier to me somehow in worn-out Converses and faded denim.

If we move a step forward from the differences in men and women, the next thing we'll come to see is what the person in question has within themselves as an individual. This is why even if my own partner gets so absorbed into their work that they don't have time to give to me, I'm willing to accept that side of them as well.

Something that occurred to me during the shooting of "Oda Nobunaga," was that when Nobunaga was lying down with his head on Nohime's lap and showing vulnerability for the first time as he grieved his father and anguished over the situation he was in, theirs is a relationship that does not need phrases like "I love you" or "beloved." Even without them, Nobunaga was able to seek great comfort on her lap...and I think that is the kind of strong woman I could easily fall for.

And even if the eras we live in and our positions are totally different, as a dude, it's hard not to like Nobunaga as one of the greatest rulebreakers there is. In the end, the only one who was able to recognize the truly great man behind the scruffy and rebellious facade was his wife. If it wasn't for her, he may not have amounted to anything more than what other thought of his as: a moron.

On TV, we often hear the lines, "What do you take me for? Like what even am I to you? Air?? Is that it?" Believe it or not, that's a relationship goal for me. Wouldn't it be just great if we can be the air that we breathe to each other?

Men will tend to change their attitude whenever there's women present. Like, if you get a group of guys just hanging out, the moment a girl enters the fold, you'll see a sort of transformation. Of course, even if it's just guys, there are plenty of times where the vibe's a comfy one. But ladies just have this way of drawing out something within us.

Which is why half of me feels lucky to have been born a guy but the other half of me wishes that weren't the case. Sure, there are plenty of things I was able to experience precisely because I was born male but there's a part of me that wouldn't have minded at all if I were born female instead. But even as I say that, I know that in reality, my brain has probably been hardwired with male settings because whenever I'm wandering the streets of Shibuya, it's the ladies I find my eyes keep following.

All in all, women are a real tough act to follow and they deserve all the respect. They are beings full of mysteries and surprises, able to invoke all kinds of feelings within. Truly, theirs is an existence that keeps on giving.

In the trailer, when Shanks leaves Uta, you can see a lot of fire and Uta’s clothes are messy, like they’d been fighting. Something happens and he decides/realizes/is forced to leave her with someone he trusts. Whether biological or not (my guess is not, just that they consider each other father and daughter) he clearly had a relationship with her, the first scene is of them talking and her heartbreak speaks of a close bond. Maybe I’m just overly attached to the Shanks you’ve gifted us with, but I genuinely believe that whatever the reason for leaving her, it’s because it’s necessary. I mean, Oda’s giving Shanks a daughter, if he’s not at least devoted to her, what’s even the point of it?!

Oh I definitely think he has a reason for leaving her; it's just that he would cut contact to the point where she's grown up, has left home, and is doing something that he - according to Luffy - would take issue with if he knew about it that doesn't sit right with me. I would just like to imagine that if Shanks had a daughter, he'd find a way to keep tabs on her, even if they had to be apart? Also, his almost detached attitude in the trailer rubs me the wrong way? Where is the strong-feeling Shanks that ugly cried at Roger's execution? Or that FREAKS OUT when he realises the bandits have taken Luffy? (This might also be my personal bias speaking, after writing 500K words of him turning the whole sea on its head to find his missing daughter in Mnemosyne, but what can I say, I love a man who feels strongly).

Of course, it's just a short trailer and the film will no doubt fill in some blanks, but it just feels a bit gimmicky to me. Oda said he wanted the film to centre around a female character for once, and connecting her to Shanks this way feels (as some of you have pointed out) like a clever marketing move. I mean, what better way to create interest around a new character than to connect her to one of your most beloved (and long-hyped) characters? Hopefully it’s more than that, but I’m still keeping it at (one) arm’s length, and for me, his canon kids are and will always be one (1) boy with a straw-hat currently liberating the world, and one (1) baby safe in his mother’s arms in East Blue.

This trailer did do one thing for me, which was make me dust off my notes for the happy AU of Mnemosyne where Rowan is raised with Luffy, and Shanks is the best long-distance dad ever.

Loyalties

A Mitsuhide Akechi fanfic. Approx. 1700 words. Takes place in the romantic epilogue - spoilers!

First: Mitsuhide and the Maiden

Previous: Hero's Welcome

The next few weeks passed in a blur. Kyubei kept busy running messages between Mitsuhide and his city contacts, and fetching items for the chatelaine. Though he supposed she didn’t really hold that title now. Now she was . . . well, a princess of the Oda. Soon to be Lady Akechi, if the two lovers had their way.

In all the years he’d served Mitsuhide, Kyubei never saw his lord so at peace. Though he was confined to the manor and still under suspicion - officially - and they had years of work to make the ‘new’ shogun fit, he seemed . . . happy. He spent hours in the garden or in his room with his fiance. And in the halls, the servants could hear their laughter. It was such a change. One Kyubei firmly hoped would continue. But life had taught him that these moments were treasures because they were ephemeral. Sweet because they were rare.

He waited for the axe to fall because it was inevitable.

When trouble finally arrived, it came bearing a box of sweets and an angelic smile.

Kyubei welcomed Ranmaru with a slight bow, and showed him to the chatelaine’s room in Mitsuhide’s manor. Though she spent her nights with his lord, her days she spent here - sewing. This was her passion, and it showed in the quality of her work.

Ranmaru thanked Kyubei, and as the door slid shut, he was already chattering away about his day and the sweets he’d made.

Mitsuhide folded and sealed the last of the days missives. He stared at the pile of letters and sighed. As the left hand of Nobunaga Oda, his work was never really done. There would be more reports, more letters, more planning and orders to send . . . and his lands needed him as well. He had projects to authorize and titles to bestow. And all he wanted to do was to curl up beside his little one and remind her how much he loved her with a thousand kisses.

He stood and stretched. This time of day, she was probably in her room working. His little one didn’t know that he already knew about the haori she was making for him. It was her surprise and he wasn’t going to ruin it by admitting he’d seen it, albeit in pieces, already.

As Mitsuhide approached her room, he heard the sound of another voice, high and young and full of forced joy. Ranmaru. He knocked lightly before sliding open the door.

His beloved sat across from the page, a little tray between them. There were sweets and tea. A little wooden box sat open beside her.

“My little mouse, I didn’t know you had a guest.” Mitsuhide smiled at Ranmaru.

The page stood. “I was actually just about to leave. I only came to drop off this gift for the princess.” He gestured to the box of sweets.

“They’re really good,” she picked up a small, colored sweet. “Do you want to try one Mitsuhide?”

Ranmaru pretended a gasp. “My lady! Those are only for you.” He glanced at Mitsuhide out of the corner of his eye. “I made them myself - so you could enjoy them.”

She laughed. “Well then you can’t complain if I share.”

“It’s alright. Such things are wasted on me.” Mitsuhide kept smiling but something in his chest tightened at the glib expression on Ranmaru’s face.

“Well good. I want you to eat them all up! Then I’ll bring you something else next time I try out a new recipe.” Ranmaru tittered.

His glee was grating on Mitsuhide’s nerves. He knew the boy was a spy for the Kennyo and this forceful mask he wore in his role here was bothersome. Still, Mitsuhide had all but promised he wouldn’t out the abbot’s protege. “I’m sure she would like that,” he said, “now, let me walk you out. I want to send a message along to Nobunaga.”

“Bye Ranmaru! I hope you can visit again soon,” the princess called as they left.

Mitushide walked alongside Ranmaru, his mind turning over the facets of this relationship. He wanted the page to stay away but did not want to make an unsubtle threat. This needed a cautious touch.

“She’s a very trusting girl,” Ranmaru said into the silence between them. “She thinks the best of everyone. Even you.”

“And you.” Mitsuhide stopped, looking down at the bright-eyed page. “Why were you really here today?”

Ranmaru smiled wider. “To bring her a gift, as I said. She’s used to accepting things from my hand. She doesn’t even question where it came from. Or what might be in it.”

Mitsuhide felt something in him turn hollow. His mouth curved in a sharp smile. “I see.” He gestured toward the front entry. “Thank you for stopping in. I do hope you have a safe walk back to the castle. Azuchi can be a dangerous place.”

“I’m not worried.” Ranmaru’s fixed grin betrayed nothing. “Didn’t you have a message for Lord Nobunaga?”

“I’ve decided it would be best to speak with him in person.”

Ranmaru shrugged, his smile going a little crooked. Then he turned and left.

Kyubei appeared from a nearby doorway. “Should I . . .”

“No. But I will bring you what remains of these sweets. Check them carefully.”

“Yes my lord.”

Mitsuhide returned to his beloved. She appeared fine. In high spirits after her visitor, even. She didn’t mind it when he sent the remaining goodies to the kitchen, suspecting nothing.

“Do you like Ranmaru very much?”

His little mouse laughed softly. “He’s really sweet. And I think a bit sad. Why? Are you jealous?”

Mitsuhide pulled her into his lap and nipped at her neck. “Mmm, no. I know you are mine. But, do you trust him little mouse?”

She straightened, her expression suddenly serious. “Why? Is there a reason I shouldn’t? Do you know something?”

It was tempting to tell her. Afterall, he’d promised no lies between them. But he’d promised Kennyo that Ranmaru’s secret was safe with him. It seemed he would never be free of conflicting promises and unintentional betrayals. Mitsuhide sighed. “Has he told you anything? Mentioned his past or his friends? His family?”

“No. He doesn’t talk much about himself at all, actually.” She was thoughtful, still in his arms. “I don’t think he would hurt me but . . . I don’t think he likes you very much either.”

Mitsuhide nodded. “I have that impression.”

“So . . . maybe I should find out more about him.” She sighed. “I guess as your wife, I can’t really trust anyone. Well, except maybe Hideyoshi. I don’t think he’d ever do anything underhanded.”

“Not well,” Mitsuhide laughed.

“It’s hard to think about people that way. I want to believe everyone is good.”

Mitsuhide gently combed his fingers through her hair. “I want you to still see the world that way. But please, little one, be careful.”

“I will be.” She smiled and kissed him. Her mouth was sweet and hot and what started as a light kiss deepened quickly between them.

No matter how many times Mitsuhide tasted her, it felt like the first time. New and exciting, forbidden. His desire for her only grew with their time together.

“My lord?” Kyubei called from just outside the closed door.

Mitsuhide reluctantly broke the kiss between them. “Come in.” His little one tried to slide off his lap to sit beside him, but he held her in place. Damned if he was going to let go just because they were interrupted.

“I am sorry to interrupt, my lord. I came to let you know dinner will be late today.” He glanced toward the princess. “I should have left you those candies awhile longer! If you want to eat the rest, the box is in the kitchen.”

His little mouse shrugged. “That’s ok, Kyubei. I’m not that hungry yet. Thank you for dropping in to tell us.”

“Of course, my lady.” Kyubei bowed again. Then he left.

Mitsuhide felt a coil of tension release inside him. Ranmaru might be an enemy by loyalty, but he hadn’t hurt his little one. The conversation between them was a warning. He leaned his head against his little one, inhaling her scent. “I think perhaps we need to get away from the city for a time. Would you like that, little one?”

“Hmm, where would we go? There aren’t any Sengoku resorts or amusement parks.” She laughed. “Where do warlords go on vacation?”

“Vacation? Another word from your time? It means to get away?”

“From work, yes. Like, to take a break away from the place you live.” She relaxed against him.

Mitsuhide considered. “We could visit my lands. You’ve yet to see them. Or, is there some place you want to visit?”

She closed her eyes. “I wish . . . I wish I could show you my home. All my favorite places. There’s a coffee shop by my flat where they make a cat face in the froth and the barista always gives me a free cookie. And a movie theater with the best soda. And I could take you on a roller coaster!” She laughed. “I’d love to see your face on the first hill.”

“I would like that.”

“Yeah. But we can’t.” His little one took a shaky breath. “I can’t regret deciding to stay here with you. I love you more than anything. But I sometimes wish that you could meet my mom and dad. My friends. I wish they could know how happy I am. How lucky. I mean . . .”

Mitsuhide waited for her to continue, but she said nothing for several long breaths. “What is it? What do you mean?” He tilted her chin up so that he could see her face. She was fighting tears.

“It’s just, I don’t want to cry. There’s nothing to cry about.”

“Little one, if you need to cry, then do. You don’t have to pretend in front of me.” He pulled her closer. This sudden sadness surprised him. He’d thought she was as pleased as he.

“They probably think I’m dead. My parents. My friends. Or worse. I wish I could at least tell them I’m ok.” The words came in little gasps as she let her tears out.

Mitsuhide stroked her back. He wished he could do something to cheer her, but this was beyond his abilities. Or was it? The ninja from Echigo - the one from her time - he might know of a way to get a message across at least. It was a long shot, but the kitsune warlord would not let his beloved taste more sorrow than her share. Not if he could help it.

S/O Overworks Herself ~ Mitsuhide, Nobunaga, Masamune

Exam session is draining me to hell, I need a break, and 12-16h of studying per day and no sleep ( thx insomnia ) ain’t fun...

MITSUHIDE AKECHI

I mean, this guy is a functional mess too

Masamune mentioned on multiple occasions that Mitsuhide forgets to take care of his basic needs so he has to bring him food and lowkey force him to stop working and eat and drink

But that all changes as soon as he sees you’re doing the exact same thing as he is

Not that he would ever admit it, per se

But he cares and loves you more than he ever loved and will ever love anything and anyone in this world

Especially himself

So you, neglecting yourself???

Unforgivable

Will literally pick you up from your work desk and bring you outside, to a nice tea house that serves delicious warm food as well and will order all your favourite food

Doesn’t matter if you can’t eat everything in one go, he’s more than happy to take everything home

At least he knows he has good things to feed you

Also, if you think you can get away with working past the sleepy-sleepy time...You are wrong

He will make sure to hide all candles and will get you with him in the futon so you won’t be able to escape his cuddles

Will definitely tease you for being such a diligent and hardworking little bunny, especially if you protest to him stopping you from your work

Albeit, you know he’s right, but you still need to make sure everything is done perfectly, without even a speck of taint

In a very sweet and comforting voice - Something he doesn’t use too often - He will tell you that he’s concerned about your health and only wants what’s best for you

Really, he wants you to live a long life by his side, and what he’s most afraid of is for you to die before him, since he knows he’ll grieve for the rest of his days and it will mess him up big time

And while yes, habits are difficult to break, you’ll at least be more considerate of your work ethics and routines

But you’ll also keep tabs on his overworking

Despite him literally taking care of a whole country

Mitsu is more important to you than anything else in this world

NOBUNAGA ODA

There’s NOTHING and I mean absolutely NOTHING that will stand between you and your health

Nobunaga is a stubborn ruler and he is a man who always does as he pleases, as long as he knows it’s beneficial for everyone

And, without a doubt, you being in top form is beneficial to you, his most beloved Princess

He half-wishes you’d just stay around and play with make up and play cards, play an instrument for him or dance for or with him

But he knows very well that doing just that is boring as all hell, and would go insane if he had to be put in that position

And he wouldn’t want his beloved firecracker to lose her spark

So he gives you the easier tasks that he does so you’d feel good about being there for him and helping him out with any little thing you can

Nobunaga feels his heart swell with pride whenever he sees you working so passionately just to help him out, and he will show you off and boast about how amazing his Princess is to literally everyone, on every single occasion

But the line is drawn when he sees you working more than him, staying all night to read books to get more informed about said topics, your skin paling, getting subtle dark circles around your eyes, and overall being more quiet because you’re exhausted physically and mentally, but also because you’re so focused on your work

No, no, no, my baby won’t be subjected to such slavery!

May actually lowkey make Mitsunari work more so he would make sure to spend more time with you outside of the castle, on picnic dates, to the theater, maybe a hot spring escapade or just walking around through the flowery fields nearby

He obviously has the best chefs to cook for him, so whether you want it or not, you will have to eat at fixed hours and sleep at fixed hours, the same as him, so you won’t feel that you’re not equal to him, or that he’s a hypocrite.

Will compliment and thank you for everything you’re doing, but will also kiss your forehead and almost beg you to take better care of yourself because he wants you to see him achieve the unification of Japan and he needs you by his side

Because your bright smile can help him fight anything in his path

So, from then on, he’d have you do things that don’t require too much dwelling, or that you can go around shopping, get yourself a nice thing too, or visiting some of the other warlords that you made friends with - Anything to get you out in the fresh air and warm sun

And he’d claim that he wants you to play card games with him, or that he wants to see your make up skills...

Or maybe even that he just wants to lay his head in your lap while you stroke his hair and hum a pretty pretty melody of love to him

Because he can’t stand how tragic and heartbreaking most of the songs are

And he loves you too much to ever allow anything to make his daring Princess sad

MASAMUNE DATE

Awwww, his lovely little kitten wants to spend more time with him so she decided to help him out with work~?

That’s the most lovely thing you could do!

Albeit, he may or may not just keep you on his lap, his chin resting on your head, one arm around you while with the other he writes whatever document he has to do

Then again, he’d also like to just stay there and watch you write what he tells you to write, just to admire your calligraphy

Oh, did I mention that he also had you write his name oh-so-beautifully on a scroll that he hung in his room?

But this kind of work isn’t exactly what he does too often, his expertise being in the physical field, training troops and all that

And after the many incidents that put you in danger so many times before when you were taken as a lucky charm on the battlefield...

He would make sure you are very well trained - By HIS standards - And he has high standards

But he’s never tough on you, since you’re his woman and he has such a soft spot for his little kitten

You can see, however, that he’s still worried, so in between the work you do from home, you go to the forest nearby to train and train and train until you can’t anymore

It doesn’t take Masamune long to realise what is going on, especially when he sees how overly exhausted you are, and how you basically fall flask in his arms like you have no energy in you

Which you don’t

So, instead of letting you train by yourself with no idea about what training ethics are, or how you should be training, he would come to the place where you’re training and bring you the heavenly food and tea he prepared for you and will properly instruct you on what to do and how much

Because overworking your mind and body actually works in your disadvantage

So he convinces you to live a healthier life style by taking everything in moderation, while also having a ton of fun

All while being together, because he wants to his kitten to laugh and be happy

If he ever sees that you’re even the littlest bit tired, he will pick you up bridal style, or put you on his back, get you home and it’s time for snacks and cuddles!

Also, more often than not, he will come up with intricate ‘training’ methods, including playing in the river, going horse-riding through the forest, crafting things, practicing archery, climbing trees and so many more

Because, in the end, no matter how scared he is of somehow losing you to the war, you’re still his beloved and would never be able to treat you like a soldier

You’re his cute little kitten and he will protect you no matter what

So keep on having your claws stuck in his clothes, and he will never let go either

You definitely witness his love for you whenever he gently holds you as if you’re made of glass.

Masamune: He grits his teeth in rage when you tell him about your past relationship. He almost looks like an angry tiger bearing its fangs and sharp claws, but that terrifying scene is diminished the moment he kisses your forehead, telling you that he will be your protector with a shoulder you can lean upon anytime you need it. Whenever you feel upset he always holds you close to him, telling you that he’s here and that nobody will ever harm you again.

Mitsunari: For the first time in a while, there is an eerie look of seriousness on his face, and he suddenly takes your hand, saying sorry for what you had to go through as he kisses your knuckles. He may be calm, but when it comes to the thought of anyone hurting you, a deadly ghost takes over him and he is ready to fight. In public he always makes sure to hold your hand in case you feel unsafe. After all, nothing can separate a guardian from his beloved.

Ieyasu: Contrary to his usually nonchalant and cold demeanor, his face shows true anger and disgust when he listens to you tell your story. He cannot believe that anybody would have the gall to mistreat you the way that your ex lover did. He isn’t a hugger, so he would try his best to show affection by allowing you to rest your head against his shoulder as he strokes your hair. He eventually does start to cuddle, especially when you have bad dreams.

Mitsuhide: He has a grim expression on his face when you inform him about your past. The playful fox is out the window. Now Mitsuhide’s serious. He isn’t afraid to let you cry, and when you do he will hold you close with one arm while stroking your hair as he listens in silence. He will wait until you fall asleep so that he can kiss your forehead, telling you how much he loves you and how he will make sure that you feel nothing but joy in your relationship with him.

Ranmaru: Your story hits him hard. He can feel tears of sorrow and fury fill his usually jovial eyes. He can’t believe the horror he is hearing. How could anyone even think to hurt a person as kind and caring as you? He wishes he could beat your ex up for what he did, but decides to focus on making you feel better by hugging you tightly. Throughout your relationship, everything feels so calm and happy, and it’s all thanks to Ranmaru’s effort to help you heal.

Uesugi-Takeda Forces

Kenshin: Everybody has seen Kenshin mad, but the feelings that surge through his veigns are of pure rage. His fists are balled and he asks questions in a silent, yet deadly tone, listening very carefully to your voice and focusing on your body language, noticing how difficult it is for you to keep your emotions under control. From then on he is even more protective of you, keeping an eye on you to see if you need any help. He vows to protect you at all costs, and you can bet that if he sees your ex in public, someone’s gonna die tonight.

Shingen: Listening to your story feels like a dagger to the heart for him. Nothing hurts him more than the thought of anything hurting you, and he feels no ounce of mercy for that asshole of a man you used to date. He will hold you in his arms for hours, even days if you want him to, and tell you that everything will be ok. He means that with all of his heart, because he makes sure to fulfill his promise of making your life better. With him, you know you’re safe because his arms are locked around you forever.

Yukimura: He stares at the floor in shock and disbelief, not uttering a word as he listens to the tragic experiences you’re sharing with him. After you’re done, he immediately wraps his arms around you without a word, and it’s so forceful that you fall on the bed. He tells you that he is here. That’s all that counts, that’s all that matters. You are his everything, and he shows that whenever you are with him. He always makes sure that you’re comfortable with everything, and that you never feel alone.

Sasuke: Out of all of the warlords, he appears the calmest, but you can’t help but notice a certain emotion in his usually stoical eyes. What is this? Grief? Anger? Fear? You don’t know what it is until he scoops you up into a hug, burying his face into your hair and promising to protect you. It is then that you realize that the look in his eyes was reflection of the future; a way of telling you that he’ll never leave your side. And he keeps that promise.

Yoshimoto: His eyes are filled with shock and soon they flood with anger and also… guilt? Yes, guilt. He feels so sorry that you had to go through that, even if it wasn’t your fault. His kind heart cannot handle seeing your tearstained face when his main priority is to make you smile. Ever since then he always spends as much time with you as he can, holding you close as you watch the sunset.

Mouri/Kennyo Forces

Motonari: His red eyes smolder in fury as you speak, so intense that you almost cower in fear. However, you know that it’s not you whom he wishes to crush to dirt under his foot. Despite his fear of physical affection, he cradles you in his arms and tells you about how he’s going to burn the man alive for hurting you. While his words are violent, they are strangely comforting, and from then on whenever you feel upset, he makes sure to give you a rare yet special hug, and soon his hugs aren’t all that rare anymore.

Kennyo: Being protective of you already, his features show display a look of shock and anger. His heart starts to pound like a raging drum and you can tell that he isn’t having any of this. You are immediately pulled into a warm embrace that lasts for hours, left in silence that is only broken by the now calming beat of both of your hearts. Little by little, your hearts beat in sync, just like how his love intertwines with yours for the rest of your lives. You know that you’ve found a guardian in him.

Bnha is a little too irregular for me right now (covid is the worst :( ), so I started reading One Piece and it's like, soooo long. Got me thinking, how long do you think Bnha will be? Personally I think we're just before time skip and it will take, like 300-400 chapters to end? So manga would be 600-700 chapters long. I could be wrong of course. Thoughts?

One Piece is fucking awesome, and the beauty of it is that is is 12 million chapters long so it will take approximately 182 years to finish reading, and you are almost guaranteed to be entertained for the vast majority of that time lol. I actually took a break from it a little ways into the Wano arc (sometime in the middle of what would later become volume 92) because it was getting harder for me to keep up with the plot week by week, especially since I was really into BnHA fandom by that time. my plan was to binge it once Wano ends. however when I was looking at the list of chapters on Wikipedia just now I saw that Oda is only 11 chapters away from breaking the 1k mark, which is pretty awesome. so I might try to catch up in the next month or two in celebration of that milestone, because damn.

with BnHA though, my own guess for how long the series will be is actually a lot shorter than most estimates I’ve seen. first of all, full disclosure that I am definitely biased regarding the timeskip part, because I personally am not the biggest fan of BnHA timeskip theories, unless they’re really short timeskips like the 3-month one we got recently. the thing is, this is explicitly a manga about their time at UA. it’s in the title and everything lol. and I like that. I like reading about them as kids, little hero eggs gradually growing into little hero chicks who will eventually become big hero birbs, but not just yet. a lot of the story’s appeal for me comes from that. there’s a certain... I don’t necessarily want to say innocence, but idealism, maybe?, that’s associated with stories about young adults, and doesn’t always carry over into the stories about those same adults once they’ve grown up. and I want the story to keep that.

there are a lot of things about the current setting that I’m very attached to and don’t want to lose. I like that they’re kids, and that they’re full of potential but don’t always know what they’re doing, and they screw up and make mistakes and get in over their heads, and are dealing with all of their messy jumbled teenage emotions. I like that they’re living with each other in the fanfic dorms and seeing each other every day in their classes. I like that romance isn’t a big part of the series (though there’s still plenty of shipping fuel to go around). I like that we get to see them interacting with their parents and siblings and get to see those relationships. and most of all, I like that -- unlike almost every other young adult series I can think of -- BnHA acknowledges that they are just kids, and the adults by and large actually treat them as such. and yes, I’m even including the child soldiers arc here, because the decision to basically draft them into a war was handed down by the HPSC (an organization that likely has a history with child abuse from what we’ve seen). U.A. was against it, and tried their best to keep them away from the front lines, chilling out in the woods and helping with evacuations instead of fighting villains. contrast this with, say, a:tla, which I love, but which is very much one of those series filled with full-grown adults who are all “it’s up to this 12-year-old and his assorted 12-to-15-year-old friends to lead the battle to save the world lulz.” and this includes possibly the most beloved full-grown adult of all time, who nonetheless peaces out with an ironclad argument of “while it is true that the final villain is my actual brother, I’m still going to let the 12-year-old handle it because something something politics slash destiny.”

but anyways lol got sidetracked there. so steering this back on course now, I genuinely, truly love that in BnHA there are all these adults in the characters’ lives who are trying to keep them safe and nurture them and shield them from that extra burden of responsibility for as long as possible while they’re still learning. and so the kids have that extra safety net of support, which to me as a reader is just... comforting, I guess. like, I understand that it’s not going to last forever, but it’s reassuring to know that it exists for them for now. and I’m not in any hurry to say goodbye to that in favor of just tossing them out into tHE REAL WORLD!! lol. like omg no my babies.

anyway but so the point is that, with respect to everyone else’s theories, I personally don’t want a timeskip lol. and tbh I don’t really see the need for one either? if anything, we’re about to enter the most chaotic period in the entire manga once this arc ends. I’m assuming Tomura will survive this and escape somehow, the better to live and fight another day. and so if that’s the case, I feel like this would be the absolute weirdest time to do a timeskip, because how far ahead can we even jump lol. too far and we’d basically be coming back to an already-destroyed world lol whoops. basically I just don’t see how we can jump ahead more than a few months at the most, assuming that the threat of Tomura is going to be looming over everyone’s heads the entire time. plus we’d miss out on what I’m betting is going to be some of the most intense worldbuilding drama in the entire series, with our beloved characters potentially being swept up in like half a dozen political controversies. I sure don’t want to miss out on any of that. we didn’t wait so long to see this war play out only to skip out on the highly entertaining aftermath of it all.

anyway so that’s my as-usual-longer-than-necessary rant about timeskips. so now let’s talk about the series length. and here, I’m basically just basing my guess off of what Horikoshi has said in interviews. off the top of my head, there are three times he’s mentioned the ending of the series in interviews. first, there’s this interview, published in July 2018:

Interviewer: Previously in SUGOI JAPAN*, you mentioned that you would like Boku No Hero Academia to be a short and concise story and not drawn out, but what percentage of the story is complete at this point?

Horikoshi: When the decision to extend the series happened, I personally thought “I guess I want to end it here” and it was around Volume 30.

Interviewer: So then are you 2/3 done with the story?

Horikoshi: That’s what I had originally planned, but when I think of all the things that must be set up before getting into the last arc, I realized, “Ending the series at Volume 30 will be impossible” (laughs). However, the current arc that is going on all has purpose that will be relevant in the last arc.

*this is referencing a remark he made back at an awards ceremony back in March 2017.

second, we have this interview from August 2018, where he again mentions wanting to keep the story concise:

Do you know what the ending of My Hero Academia is? Do you think it'll be 80+ volumes like One Piece?

No, it won't be infinite – I don't have the stamina for it to be as long as One Piece. I'd like to keep it concise.

and lastly, this one which was published in December 2019:

What can you say about the future events of the manga?

I’m conscious of the end of the series, and writing towards that. I think the story will always be moving in big ways going forwards. My Hero Academia has a lot of characters, a lot of characters doing different things with different motivations, and the story is heading towards a conclusion where all of that comes together and heads towards the end.

my takeaways from these interviews are that (1) he originally planned for the story to be about 300 chapters long, (2) he’s had a clear idea of his overall endgame for a while now and has been steadily working towards that (as he put it in another interview, he knows all of the dots, but is still figuring out the lines to connect them all), and (3) he specifically said a couple years back that he did not want to write a long One Piece-length series, and his goal was to write a more concise story than that. Horikoshi’s pacing has always been much faster than Oda’s (or Kishimoto’s, or Kubo’s, etc.), and so I think it’s a realistic goal for him to wind up with a significantly shorter story in comparison.

my best guess is that BnHA won’t be much longer than 400 chapters, or a little over 40 volumes. he said back around chapter 180-something that he was nowhere close to being two-thirds of the way done. but it’s been two years since then, and if we haven’t reached at least the two-thirds mark by this point, I would honestly be very surprised. it would mean we’ve barely made any progress at all, and I don’t know about you, but the past few arcs have felt very purpose-driven to me. I think he has a pretty good idea of where he’s heading at this point, and that to me supports the idea of a shorter story than a lot of people have speculated. mind you, he might end up doing a sequel or something afterwards (although I kind of cringe thinking about all the ways we’ve seen that kind of thing go wrong in the past, ngl).

but as far as the series proper, yeah, I’d say 400 chapters is my best guess. ultimately I just hope he’s able to tell the story he wants to tell and gets as much time as he needs to do so, without feeling any pressure to then drag it on past that. knowing when to end your series is so underrated honestly. I have my fingers crossed that it’s a skill Horikoshi hopefully possesses.

May I request headcanons on what ikesen warlords would do to spend time, bonding with their toddler daughter, who just barely passed the first step but eager to play with their father.

Nobunaga Oda

“It seems the little one is taking after you, fireball. I’ve never seen someone so eager to get to me, other than yourself.”

The ever sadistic critical warlord would first want to test the limits of his daughter. With every step she’d take, he’d move one back. It’s infuriating for even yourself, though your daughter’s determined face says it all.

He’ll finally stop once he deems her successful enough and when he sees you ready to give him a lecture, letting the tiny one fall into his chest.

He would then proceed to do just about anything with her, from his work, to his training, even bringing her to war councils at times. Her cuteness makes it hard for the other warlords to focus at times.

And, of course, he’s a loving father, past all the push and pull. He humors his adventurous daughter, spoiling her rotten and showing her the affection he never got from his family.

Hideyoshi Toyotomi

“Don’t go around saying I’m the Mother Hen here because I am not.” He says, disheveled, holding his daughter in one arm, a dirtied towel used for her snot in the other, and with pink clips in his hair.

It’s a miracle in itself that she can take a few steps because rare are the days that Hideyoshi is seen without his daughter in his arms.

He.. never lets go. Literally. His favorite pastime is to simply cuddle with his daughter.

A close second would be simply watching her play with one of the many toys he’s gotten for her. The sweet smile on his face, the indescribably look of love in his eyes, and the soft sigh he emits says all that is needed.

Masamune Date

“I can see this lass turning into a handful once she grows up.” He laughs out, playing his fourth round of tag with the toddler.

Masamune would absolutely love his enthusiastic little girl, and often would the Date Manor see him chasing her around, or even vice-versa.

His favorite thing to do with her, though, is to bring his daughter out to the flower fields and just laze around.

Though he is and will always be reckless and adventurous, he finds that spending time with the two people he loves the most, surrounded by sunlight and nature and warmth, is rather calming.

Ieyasu Tokugawa

“Walking causes... accidents.” His poor excuse causes you to go silent for a few minutes.

Though he says that walking too much is dangerous for a child her age, you’ve translated it into “I don’t want her to get hurt so we’re shutting out all the possibilities of pain in her life.”

It takes a while for you to coax him into it, and he only relented when you made a compromise that either he or you should be with her when she walks.

The sight of your daughter with her hand around a steely yet blushing Ieyasu’s pinky is now a norm in the Tokugawa Manor. He quite enjoys going on walks with her.

Mitsunari Ishida

“I believe you’ll be a genius when you grow up, princess!” You don’t have the heart to tell him she doesn’t understand a word he says.

At first he doesn’t know why this little child insists on walking when her legs are barely able to. Once you explained to him, he dropped all of his work and focuses on playing with his daughter. It could go on for hours.

By far, his favorite thing to do is to read to her. Whether it be story books or reports or even war books, he finds joy in seeing her content smile as she leans her tiny head on his chest.

His favorite story to tell, however, is slightly advanced. 500 years too advanced, for the matter...

Mitsuhide Akechi

“Must you deem it unruly when I am simply spending time with my beloved daughter?” He asks, not once breaking eye contact, as your giggling daughter dangles on his arm, wriggling all around.

The cheeky thing has a horrible habit of stealing your daughter away without telling you, which can last for hours. You, however, don’t have it in you to get mad at the smirking man, or the sleeping beauty in his arms at the end of the day.

He’d find teasing his daughter quite amusing as well, and, much like Nobunaga, would step back whenever she’d take a step forward. Though his predilection stems from simply wanting to tease her.

Mitsuhide carries her around on his shoulders quite often. He doesn’t want to admit that it’s because he dislikes seeing her struggle too much.

Kenshin Uesugi

“... I don’t enjoy spending time with this little demon.” The fact that he’s been cooped up in your shared room with her for hours says otherwise.

He loves his daughter dearly, just as he does you. Which is.. Not exactly the best due to his “She wants it? It is hers.” attitude.

More often than not, what the little girl wants is to simply spend time with her father, which is why situations like the aforementioned one happens.

Many times have you opened your bedroom screen to be welcomed by your daughter holding what appears to be a mini-weapon with Kenshin standing above, high and proud.

Shingen Takeda

“My, darling, we were simply having a little conversation. Care to join us?”

… Is what he says after your daughter finishes babbling her gibberish, Shingen nodding seriously as if he understood what she said.

Though he finds her determination to get to him absolutely adorable, he’d rather not let her suffer that much and instead makes his way to her.

Their little tea parties are quite popular in the Kasugayama Castle. Sometimes, even a few soldiers and vassals join. The little rascal doesn’t mind -- the more, the merrier.

Shingen doesn’t either. Her expressions are, by far, the most amusing.

Yukimura Sanada

“.. What does she want from me?” Not everyday do you see the man pointing at your stumbling daughter from a few feet away, eyes moving rapidly between her and you.

His rashness does make his daughter cry at times… Although he makes up for it by being by her side 24/7.

He doesn’t like to admit it, but he can’t hide all the careful glances and the not-so-secret kisses, and the ever-growing pile of toys.

Begrudgingly, he always ends up a doll when he’s with his daughter. Yukimura can’t say no to her tiny hands, or the makeup being smeared on his face...

Sasuke Sarutobi

“So then the shuriken is made not to hurt the opponent, but to — oh. Hello there, darling.” Sasuke would instantly hide the ninja star in his hand as he holds eye contact with your intense gaze.

Babbling to his daughter about ninjas and warlords and whatnot has become his favorite pastime. The young child doesn’t understand much, though the nods and giggles she lets out are, admittedly, quite adorable.

Sometimes, when he’s sure you’re not listening, his babbles would turn towards the topic of you. Of how great you are, how wonderful you are, how kind you are…

He’s so grateful. For you and for his little girl. For her adorable, tiny feet that always manage to catch up to him, and for your adorable scoldings.

One Piece (Manga)

Greetings, all! I’m The Anime Binge-Watcher, a blog dedicated to me binge-watching anime in episodic chunks and analyzing it for your enjoyment! Today, I’m embarking on something a little different: my first ever manga binge-read! Why? Because Viz just announced that to celebrate One Piece nearing its 1,000th chapter, they’re going to be making a handful of chapters free to read online every week. And I figure, what better time is there gonna be to finally jump onto one of anime’s most popular, beloved and long-running properties? So, at long last, it’s time for me to being my journey into the one and only One Piece!

For my long-term readers, this is gonna work a little differently than how I usually do my analysis. I’m probably going to make one post per chapter, talking about likes, dislikes, observations and so on in a looser manner than usual. I’ll also probably only do a couple chapters a day. I’m still going to keep to my usual schedule: this is just be an extra thing I also do on the side. I don’t want this to completely take over my blog; I’ve got enough damn shows to get through as it is, lol. Though knowing me, if this series does get as good as I’ve heard it does, I’ll probably analyze the shit out of it anyway. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

So yeah, that’s how this is gonna work. Every day I’m gonna read a couple chapters and post my thoughts on each chapter individually. I’m not sure how, if at all, I plan to engage with the anime; from what little I’ve seen and what I’ve heard, it seems to be considered a far lesser experience from every angle. Maybe I just won’t touch it at all. But who knows? For now, I’m sticking with the manga, and we’ll see where that takes us! And here’s what I know going in:

-Monkey D Luffy is our protagonist. He’s all stretchy thanks to eating a weird fruit, and he’s sailing with his pirate crew to find the legendary treasure of One Piece.

-Other characters include Nico Robin, Nami, Sanji the lollipop muncher, Usopp the nose, and fan favorite Zoro.

-The worldbuilding is I N S A N E in a good way.

-Things get wild once we reach the Grand Line.

-Oda is a master artist, but is... not always the best re:sexism and transphobia. Supposedly.

-Luffy said Fuck Cops(tm)

There’s a lot of other tidbits floating around, but for now, I’m just excited to jump right in. DO NOT SPOIL ME ON ANYTHING. I’m the kind of guy who prefers going in as blind as possible. Let me discover this story at my own pace! Thanks a ton, and I’ll see you in a bit for the first step on this new adventure!

Schedule: Outside this new project, I watch two shows concurrently, alternating each day. One is a long-running show, the other is shorter.
