Barbara: No, no, hear me out, he lost the puppie because the dog was too brave and stayed during the whole movie. If if had runned afraid it would have been fine.

Duke: My turn! I present all the books they had falled into Mad Hatter's dad killing him except somehow the Alice in Woonderland book that stayed in the shelve so he sweared to never read another book ever again?

Tim: Creating stupid rogues origin stories.

Dick: It seems fun. Let me try... huh... Oswald became Penguin because a Penguin flew through his window the moment he was considering becaming a criminal .

Damian: *was in the mission with Dick* May I try? Joker is a villain because his mother had depression and his jokes never made her happy.

Dick: Holy shit! Too heavy, lil D.

Duke: Sadge.

Tim: It looks like a soap opera plot.

Damian: I DO NOT watch soap operas with umi. SHUT UP!

Tim: Whoa there is a lot to unpack here.

Cass: Bet Tim survives but barely.

Tim: When in the pit because a lot of irrelevant trauma things Bane had nightmares with a half bat half man creature attacking him so his solution was to crack B's spine in half.

The joker has many names in many stories, but how did you (in your opinion or point of view) reveal the "true" origin of the villain and I loved it and I want you to do the same with the "true" name of the joker, please 🙏

Thank you, glad you had fun with my previous Joker-related meta! Oof, Joker's "true" name... That's a very thorny issue.

First of all, there's a canon name for Prime Earth Joker right now, and a canon origin. You guessed it, it's The Killing Joke one. This wasn't really surprising to me when it came out, the TKJ origin has been referenced as canon multiple times at this point; it's only the last name that remained a mystery. But then they revealed his name to be "Jack Oswald White":

I'm pretty sure we all agree that the only good part of that is "Jack". Don't know why the hell they went for "Oswald" (let Penguin have the monopoly on that goddammit!), but "White" is not that much of a surprise, it's just... a bit boring. Basically, Joker's had "White" attributed to him before in the Arkham games, he used it as an alias.

The fan-favorite (and my own, actually) name for Joker is actually "Jack Napier". It's got a long history... First used in Tim Burton's Batman (1989), it then got adopted by Batman: The Animated Series, The Batman (2004) and multiple other adaptations, like the Black Label Batman: White Knight comic-- which is just the most famous recently, but Joker's been named "Jack Napier" in so many other Elseworld and alternate universe DC comics. However, the name has popped up in comics closer to main continuity too. Joker himself used it as an alias in the New 52, in Red Hood and the Outsiders; but more importantly...

Arkham Asylum: Madness

Tough to say how canon this comic is, but it's heavily implied Joker's surname is "Napier". And since it's been canonized Joker's kid would've been a boy, "Milton" was probably his name (if you follow Falls the Shadow, my Joker-centric fic, you're probably familiar). But most recently, and having the most weight, they showed that the Joker equivalent of one of the Dark Multiverses was named "Jack Napier":

So... it's a bit of a mess. It's been made official that his name was "Jack Oswald White" (maybe they want to do something with the initials JOW??), but the name people have been using for him for years is "Jack Napier". More generally though, you'll find that even comics that never give him a last name use "Jack" (like Batman: Gotham Knights #54, or Batman: Three Jokers, or the name of Jokester, the good Joker of Earth-3).

...And alright, I can't help myself. I'll go ahead and rant about a pet theory of mine, since I think Zdarsky intentionally tried to fit this all into an explanation. He tried to do something about Joker being people with different names and even different genders (like Martha Wayne) across worlds. But everything from here on is a spoiler for the main Batman run, so I'll put it all under the cut.

In case you're not familiar with the plot of The Bat-Man of Gotham, basically Bruce got thrown into another Universe in which Batman didn't exist. Here he found a guy called Darwin Halliday or Red Mask, who never became Joker, but wanted to. He'd glimpsed into the Multiverse with a chemical, and as a result created a machine that allowed one to travel the numerous Universes. In their final confrontation, Bruce and Red Mask both get hurled across the Multiverse by the machine, and here's an interesting panel from a world (clearly Burton's Batman movie world) Bruce encounters:

They have Bruce see his name, and the name "Jack Napier" on panel. Meanwhile, the "sane" Joker Bruce is chasing is named "Darwin Halliday". Then there's freaking "Jack Oswald White" for Prime Earth, an existing alternate called "Jack Napier" in a Dark Multiverse, and don't even get me started on freaking "Alby", another potential Joker name from Detective Comics (2016) #1000.

Bruce however, in Zdarsky's story and not only, only has himself. All the Universes he hops through have "Bruce Wayne" as the connection, even when Bruce isn't Batman (like in Batman Beyond). Is Bruce the only one to be Batman? Of course not, different others have carried the mantle (like Dick Grayson, Jean-Paul Valley, Tim Drake, Damian Wayne, James Gordon etc.). But I'm not trying to refer to worlds in which Bruce Wayne was Batman and then something happened to him and he was succeeded/replaced; I'm trying to refer to worlds in which someone else became Batman from the start. Those are quite rare, but they almost always have a Wayne: Thomas Wayne, or Helena Wayne. Even Owlman, the "evil" counterpart, is Bruce's brother.

Of course, the connection linking the Bruce Waynes is meant to be there so that the "infection" of Zur-en-Arrh can take place across the Multiverse. But then how exactly is Red Mask finding each Universe to jump into, right? How is he connecting mentally to all the Jokers, if the Jokers are different people and not the same as for Bruce? Why is it that whenever a Wayne becomes a Batman, someone becomes a Joker? Well...

So. Red Mask was following Batman, the one who's existence directly lead to Jack going insane and becoming Joker. Wherever there was a Batman, Red Mask precipitated the creation of a Joker... who wasn't always the same person. Just the person who needed a "push" into becoming it, hence explaining why Joker is different individuals. "Joker" is pretty much the cosmic curse following Batman, his inevitable shadow. (Not only that, depending on the moment Red Mask arrived, he also brought back the existing Jokers from the dead or made them worse.)

Now. Do I like this explanation? Not really, I think it sucks to unravel Joker's character so much and take away all his mystery, all the cool alternate interpretations. Not only that, but this explanation essentially takes away agency from Joker's character and attributes it to freaking... Multiverse shenanigans. However, I did appreciate Zdarsky's effort to give the whole thing some meaning. You don't see that frequently in comics. And in a way, it's so insanely soulmates-as-a-curse for Batman and Joker. They're so tied together it's impossible to unravel them.

My current obsession is Quinn from potionomics, I finished the game the other day and I’m just in love with their character. There’s a pitiful lack of Potionomics fanfiction and not enough Quinn to satisfy my need for more. For now, Quinn headcanons (mostly QuinnxSylvia relationship)! Perhaps I’ll write some Quinn X Sylvia or Quinn-centric fanfiction :)

•As their relationship with Sylvia progresses, Quinn makes some genuine attempts at finding suitable pet names to call their girlfriend.

Happy 10th and 13th anniversary to A Machine For Pigs and The Dark Descent respectively!!

Since amfp's 10th anniversary is today and tdd's 13th was two days prior, I figured I can post them both today

I was gonna post my weyer pic on the 19th of august, but I was suffering art block like a mofo but yeah I finally did it. It's also part of my AU that's more agrippaweyer centric 9aka lehrerschuler but ye haha)

As for oswald, I finally got to give his design some color. He's been designed since 2017 but I never shared his design until now. And I'm happy I finally posted it and on the 10th anniversary. It's actually a special day for me cuz not only did I stream the game on launch day with a very good friend, but I met one of my closest best friends @bluestcrryskies in my chat while streaming. One of the best days of my life tbh~

anyway- hope y'all enjoy these and that I still love amnesia to this day~

How do you feel about the fact Phil is ending after working on it for so long? Also which character do you think you've most improved in writing compared to the start?

it’s so so weird! It’s my longest writing project ever and we’ve been through a lot it’s like a friend to me. for your second question, it’s Oswald. When I watched Gotham the first time I wanted to write lots but I was so scared of going anywhere near Oswald I didn’t know what to do with him he was weird to me? He talked so well with big words and he’d have intericate plans and he’s just. He's a struggle you get me? So like, Philophobia was supposed to be Ed centric, but from day one Oswald got ahold of the script and forced me to learn to write him and you know what? That’s such an Oswald thing to do.

this is nonsense but like how does everyone pick and choose which characters to include as Mickey’s siblings? From what I’ve seen most people instinctively want to round Mick and Oz out as a trio but who they choose isn’t consistent.

Oswald is a guarantee, regardless of au or heacanon.

but is Julius included as a character made for a series by Walt and Ub? Or not since they were told to rip off Felix and he was a supporting character who stole the show like Goofy and Donald instead of an original main character like Oz and Mickey?

is Felicity? the Disney canon older sister of Mickey, or is she unimportant to meta storylines having been created/refined without drama (an not by Walt or Ub)?

is Flip the Frog? Since Ub created him? Or not since he deviates from the Disney-centricness of it all?

is Willie Whopper? He was Ub’s second star (but I think Natwick designed him) but he’s a little human toon boy and somehow that’s weirder than just another different animal. I literally never see anyone use this kid.

is Gabby Goat? Ub made him. At Warner. He’s a Looney Tune. Nobody liked him cause he’s a violent little goat but like Mickey having a Looney Tune brother is funny to me.

why not the Laugh-O-Gram characters? The main characters were human toons Jack and Suzie (a couple) but the side characters were a cat and dog (also sometimes a couple), like why not use them?

What story (stories?) are you writing rn that you’ll most likely publish next?

*deep breath* Currently the main fic on my publishing schedule is the recently-begun Stars in Their Eyes, which is a crossover between the Silmarillion and The Magnus Archives. I am very excited about this one; there have been spreadsheets involved in the planning of it. :D The short version of the premise is that the fear entities from TMA are actually Tolkien's Valar, corrupted by Morgoth ages ago, and that the Sons of Feanor (seven elven war criminals, truly fascinating characters) have been running around trying to combat the Entities ever since. They eventually intersect with the Archives crew circa 2016, to the tune of fix-its all around (eventually; it's gonna be a long haul). If I can get it right, it will be so good.

2. What story (stories?) are you writing rn that will most likely linger in your head for an undetermined period of time?

Stars in Their Eyes, mentioned above, is definitely one. I was a good girl this time and made sure I didn't have any other WIPs before I started this one, but I'm toying with ideas for a TMA repeated-time-travel fix-it that has lingering potential. Also someday I will properly write the Maeglin/Clara Oswald-centric Doctor Who/Silmarillion crossover that I have extensive notes for and that occasionally pokes me in the back of the brain.

Yes, it is specifically the 1960s Batman TV show version played by Burgess Meredith

Oswald Cobblepot was never one to refuse a gift, especially from one of his fiendish friends after a job well done. He was normally at odds with Poison Ivy and her obsession with destroying all things human-centric--of her many crimes, being staunchly anti-capitalist was the most heinous to the bird-obsessed businessman. Still, he'd managed to pull off a particularly difficult heist with her help, and all he'd needed to win her over was a promise to acquire the Gotham Arboretum and give her the deed to make into her newest and greatest lair. 

As a token of her appreciation, Ivy had given Oswald a present once they'd come back to the Iceberg Lounge. "A small vial of my pheromones, mixed with a few scents that suit you--all plant-based, of course," she explained. "You're already a charmer when you want to be, but this can give you an edge if you need to be extra persuasive. A small drop or two of this and even Batman himself would be swayed to your side!"

Oswald took the vial and slipped it into his breast pocket. "Very rare for you to give any man a gift like this, Pamela," he remarked. "Has this rose lost a couple of her thorns?"

Ivy rolled her eyes. "Possessions are the only thing men like you value," she responded curtly. "I appreciate your help in getting me the Arboretum, and I know that you wouldn't care about the Earth giving you thanks by thriving and flourishing. So I made you a gift, from them--and I– to you."

As she walked out of his office, Oswald lit his cigarette and puffed in silence as he thought how he could best use this little gift. Surely he could find a use for this pheromone in one of his business ventures, but he could just as easily use his own silver tongue to get whatever he needed. A rare boon like this should be saved for something special. 

The vial's light weight in his suit felt like nothing compared to the pocket watch on the other side. He fished it out and opened it to reveal the photo he'd placed inside the top lid, smiling fondly at the picture of his adorable secretary. It was a copy of ____'s employee ID photo, cut into a little heart one night after a few glasses of wine as his thoughts had wandered to her. Instead of using this gift of Ivy's for business, why not use it for pleasure instead?

Oswald fished out the vial to open it and dab an ample amount of the sweet-smelling liquid behind his ears, his neck, and the inside of his wrists (the same place he preferred placing his cologne) and pressed a button on the small head of a penguin statuette on his desk. Ivy had only said a few drops would be sufficient, but what harm could a little extra do?

"____, would you come into my office for a moment? There's something I'd like to discuss with you." There was a small beat of silence followed by ____'s voice crackling through the speaker in the penguin statue's beak.

"Coming, Mr. Cobblepot!"

A few seconds later, the door opened and there was his little songbird with a pen and notepad in her hands. "Ms. Isley just left," ____ informed him with a bright smile. "She said she would send you a line once she finished setting up her new, ah, office." 

"Thank you for the update," Oswald replied. He opened the small cigar box on the corner of his desk and reached for the matchbox in his pocket. "Would you be a dear and light this for me?"

____ nodded and walked to him, leaning down and taking a match from his hand; by how quickly and effortlessly she had struck it, let the flame brush the end of his cigar, and disposed of it, she had definitely mastered this part of her job as The Penguin's secretary. She waited patiently with hands clasped as he took a few puffs, although her posture seemed a bit more stiff and strained than usual.

Oswald watched with amusement and anticipation as he watched her struggle to hide how she was biting the inside of her cheek. "It's working just fine, dove," he insisted, his voice laced with false concern. "Are you feeling alright?"

"I'm not…well, I don't feel sick, exactly," ____ stammered. "I just…I…I'm very warm and a little light-headed." The skirt of her dress wrinkled as she tried to subtly squeeze her thighs together. "I need to…sit down…"

Oswald rose up and took her hand, making her gasp softly through her nose at his touch. Before he could say anything, ____ whined and wrapped her arms around him in a desperate embrace. The sudden movement made him stumble and fall back into his seat with her in his lap, and his cigar dangled from his mouth before he quickly dropped it onto the nearby crystal ashtray with one hand. 

"Mr. Co--Cobblepot, I'm so sorry," ___ panted. "I don't--Would you…touch me, please?"

Oswald happily complied; his left hand wandered from her shoulder down to her wrist. "Anywhere specific, dove? Why don't you tell me where?"

It seemed ____'s inhibitions were dwindling with every second by how loudly she moaned as he moved his hand down her arm. She'd started to rock her hips against his trousers and her eyes were glazed over with a delicious look of lust. "My ch-chest," she replied, begging as she took his hand and moved it to her breast. "Please, please, I need it, sir…"

Oswald reminded himself to send Ivy a few hundred "thank-you" plants for this pheromone of hers, and he quickly unbuttoned ____'s blouse. She eagerly unhooked her brazier and dropped it onto the floor, leaning into Oswald's touch as he groped and massaged her pert breasts. All those nights he imagined seeing her like this, feeling her like this, were nothing compared to the real thing.

ideas for anyone working at DC to pick up if they want a penguin centric comic:

- make fish Mooney canon to the main universe, and explore his backstory with her. Gotham has SO much good groundwork, you should steal some of it, to be honest, and if you change her enough, you don't have to (spoilers) kill her off like they did.

- have an interaction with Catwoman that isn't a sexual predator thing. Could be serious (her and Oswald BOTH struggle with their humanity versus their animalism and are materialistic), or could be silly (an escalating conflict involving animals and goons of both parties that a hero is caught between, as both Catwoman and penguin have marked the same fish or bird themed prized object for theft, and keep stealing it from each other)

- riddlebird. let them hang out more, they can also oscillate between friendship/you know what and rivalry to a ridiculous extent, or they can both just commiserate over being perpetually foiled Gotham rogues. anywhere in there is a damn good time

- literally just let him do bird themed crimes again. I'm fucking begging you. drop the heavy mob boss shit I'm so tired he is a mobster and it's fine but it's not the Point man!!!! let him be Weird please.
