happy belated halloween! i took adderall for the first time in weeks and instead of working on my projects i drew my interpretation/slight redesign of greavard and my overhauled redesign of houndstone!

artist notes below the cut! :D

Greavard

i decided to not spend too much energy trying to keep the "pokemon art style" so i could focus my energy on making him look good

i wanted to keep the core features and make him still recognizable as greavard

i also wanted to stay consistent with the trend of puppy pokemon evolving into a dog pokemon, with the puppy still being passable as a full grown itself (eg: yamper, lillipup, houndour)

my biggest problems lied with how cartoony he looked, so i fixed this by giving him more realistic proportions but still keeping them "puppy-like" by giving him big paws and ears, which are the defining features that puppies have that indicate how big they will be when they grow up

the candle looked stupid and clumsily done, so i made it feel a bit more natural by having it look more realistically like a candle and have the melting wax turn into fur. originally i wanted to have his bangs also be melting wax and make that more of a part of his design, with his fur also looking like dripping wax, but that felt like it would stray too far from the core design

more ghost-like features! i gave him a big long translucent tongue and made his fur turn wispy at the ends of his ears and tail. considered doing this to his "cape" of fur too but it cluttered the design too much

i also considered giving him some kind of chains and shackles like i did with my church grim fakemon i made years ago, but it didn't feel fitting for greavard since his evolution is supposed to be the spirit of a dearly loved pokemon. it made sense for a church grim because theyre supposed to guard graveyards, and their spirits are bound to the graveyard that they're buried at

Houndstone

So I did originally just try and tweak houndstone's design, but every attempt I made just kept getting shafted by the stupid tombstone that looked like a stupid little hat. So he needed an overhaul

Houndstone's dex entry says "A lovingly mourned Pokémon was reborn as Houndstone." Maybe this one evolved after nobody loved him as a greavard (since they sap your life force) and his loneliness caused him to take on a malevolent evolution?

I wanted to keep the mound he had because bulbapedia says it might be referencing a type of burial mound. But in his canon design it makes him look like he has a camel hump. So I transferred it to his shoulders to give him a hyena-like body type, to make it more pronounced, make his silhouette more dynamic, and to make his draped mane look cooler

Gave him more realistic proportions, just like with greavard. No more stupid giant head

Gave him pointy teeth instead of the silly nubbins to make the "malevolent" part more appearant

Replaced his stupid headstone with a candle with a bigger flame. Maybe it's bigger from stealing the life force from so many possible trainers? Also gave him a row of candles down his back to help him look more like an "upgraded" evolution of greavard

Longer bone tail because it's cool

The sprites with the flat colors and his in-game sprites showed his fur as completely white with purple spots on his back and head. I thought the official art was cooler with the color variance so I used that instead

Just realized I forgot to add wisps to the ends of his ear like greavard's but I don't care anymore

Gets along best with your Decidueye and Froakie, though your Eevees feel a bit nervous when he’s around too long

He mentioned their tail fur being quite the rewarding trophy and now they kinda fear him

Ruggie Bucchi

Poppy and Ruggie are now partners in crime

She loves when he gives her a portion of his spoils and he is grateful for Poppy’s small size

Great for getting into those hard-to-reach snack dens certain Savanaclaw students make around the campus

Poor you having to clean up their mess and apologize for your little thieves

He adores your Mightyena and Zoroark and definitely gets them involved in the shenanigans

My Time at Sandrock: Pokemon Team (Bachelor Edition)

Bachelorette Version [LINK]

With Pokemon Indigo Disk being released I thought I might make a small Pokemon team for the bachelors and bachelorettes of the game; both will be posted separately and if anyone had other ideas as to what other Pokemon they would have don't hesitate to put them down. Buckle-up, this is a long one.

Arvio would probably have Pokemon that would have his energy, so the team I think he would have is an Scyther, Plusle, and Roserade; the trio especially would put up a performance to draw the attention of tourists over to By the Stairs. Scyther is based on the fact he uses dual weapons when MC spars, of course him and Amirah both would have the Plusle-Minum duo, and with Roserade I can see as his ace for various reasons; roses being a symbol of love while Arvio is a charmer being one of the big reasons.

Burgess is a kind-hearted pacifist and a devoter to the church, so to match his kindness I think his Pokemon team would be Togetic, Sylveon, and Blissey. Togetic's entry is that it only approaches those with a good heart, a top-perfect Pokemon, Sylveon would be his ace and its entry also says that it'll emit an aura that would erase hostility, and Blissey is a compassionate Pokemon that evolves through high friendship; I can definitely see Burgess raising it as a Happiny.

Ernest was a little tough, but I think he would have a Toxtricity (Amped form), Meowstic (Male ver.), and Alolan Persian. Both the Toxtricity and Meowstic, his ace, would match with his twin Luna, while the Alolan Persian is considered the symbol of wealth and it matches with his background.

Fang's team would definitely be Corviknight, Mimikyu, and Audino. Corviknight, his ace, is obviously based on his crow X, Mimikyu I can see Fang adopting from years back and Audino not only acts as his assistant but the Pokemon would also help soothe him when his PTSD would come around.

Justice was pretty easy as well, since he's for... well, justice, I picture him having noble and quite strong Pokemon; his team would Rapidash, Mabosstiff, and Pidgeot. Rapidash would definitely be based on his horse Truth, Mabosstiff, I can see as his ace, would be a Birthday gift from Vivi, and Pidgeot can be his eyes in the sky.

Logan was interesting to say the least, but I think he would have a team of Gogoat, Lucario, and Mightyena. Gogoat, his ace, is based on his companion Rambo, Lucario I see Logan adopting as a Riolu while on the first couple of weeks being on the run, and Mightyena while not only having canon hyena enemies in the game but one of its entries mentions that it obey only certain trainers that possess superior skill, which the Pokemon can see in him.

I admit I don't know much about Miguel, so it was a guessing game based on the wikia- with that I think his Pokemon team would be Luxray, Gallade, and Talonflame. His Pokemon team would match his calm and clever demeanor with Gallade as his ace.

With Owen working at the Blue Moon Saloon he would have at least a couple of Pokemon that would assist him, being Slurpuff, Centiskorch, and Indeedee (Male ver.). Slurpuff is a gift from his father when he first took over the saloon, each of Centiskorch's segmented body has coil-like heat that Owen can use whenever something happens to the oven, and of course he has an Indeedee to help wait tables before Grace came in. He probably won't have an ace since he believes all Pokemon are good Pokemon, but if I do give him one it would be Dusk Lycanroc.

Pablo's team would be Furfrou, Delcatty, and Smeargle. With Furfrou I can see Pablo having it as a guard Pokemon, Pablo's favorite trim would be the Heart trim, Delcatty is considered to have sublime fur which I think Pablo would love in a Pokemon, and Smeargle, his ace, matches with how Pablo is canonically an artist based on Arvio's questline.

Pen, of course, would have muscular and powerful Pokemon to match him in all aspect; so it would be no surprise that his team would have Palafin, Machamp, and Feraligatr. His aces are both Palafin and Machamp and he would be the trainer who would love double-battle.

Qi's team would be quite interesting, let me explain why: his team'll be Magnezone, Charjabug, and Minccino. Magnezone is his ace that he would have since back in Vega 5, Charjabug was a trade from Mint and refuses to evolve it when he finds out about Vikavolt, and Minccino it just happened to stumble upon his research center and saw it cleaning so he decided to keep it as a mini-assistant. Though I also imagine finding a Minior one night through a telescope and saw that it fell close to Sandrock premises and with the assistance of MC he kept it around as a memento.

And last but not least, Unsuur I can see as a Rock-type trainer only; his team would be Gigalith, Naclstack, and Graveler; Gigalith, his rockin' ace, being his gift from Justice when he became a Civil Corps memeber, and throughout his time caught the latter two- and eventually took in a Carbink that took an immediate liking to him and, of course, he named the little Carbink, Wilson.

Gen III, Complete!

That's right, we've hit another milestone and completed the polls of the lovely Pokemon of the ever beautiful Hoenn region!

As such, I'd like to take a moment to commemorate this generations...

Sultans of Smash!

(Which is just a fancy way of saying they got more "Smash" than "Pass" votes)

So, come with me as we see who's who in the world of Smashing! Our Smashables are (under the Read More because oh man this gonna take a while, especially since I couldn't help but get a bit verbose this time):

1. An oddity! Starting our list is not a Stage 3 Starter Evolution, but a Stage 2 Starter Evolution! It's Grovyle, who has presumably been (understandably) elevated by the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon fans to a respectable 58.3% Smash Rating! This gives Grovyle the honor of being the first Starter Pokemon on the list to not be a final evolution!

2. But, let us not underestimate Grovyle's evolution, Sceptile! Weighing in at a cool 60.2% Smash rating for Standard Form and 57.7% for Mega Sceptile, it seems the evolutions have done nothing to trim back this leafy lizard's appeal.

3. Bringing up our next position on the list, we have the venerable Blaziken, the first of the Fire/Fighting starters! And, it seems, a real master of smashing, with a 71.8% rating in Standard Form and a 72.5% rating as Mega Blaziken! Seems the heat of their fans' passion is very much a match for the flames of Blaziken's kicks.

4. And of course, like Kanto and Johto before this, we have the pleasure of also announcing the water starter has made it! That's right, Swampert has made waves in the world of smashing, and achieved a solid 60.6% Smash rating in Standard Form, and an even better 63.1% as Mega Swampert! Guess it's true, Anchor Arms really do make everyone love you...

5. And up next, we have everyone's favorite domesticated hyena (there's a phrase I don't think exists outside of Pokemon), Mightyena! Though seemingly mean and vicious, they're a real sweetheart when you get to know them, and judging by their 55.4% Smash rating, boy howdy have a number of y'all gotten to know Mightyena! Also, fun fact, hyenas are closer to cats than dogs genetically speaking. Another fun fact, hyenas actually have pretty similar social structures and capabilities to what the Pokedex describes of Poochyena and Mightyena! Anyways, animal behavior lesson over, lets move on!

6. I think we all saw this next one coming, as their grace, elegance, beauty, and devotion to their trainer have captivated many since the earliest days of Ruby and Sapphire's release. Gardevoir takes their rightful place among the Sultans of Smash, with a dazzling 78.6% Smash rating in Standard form and a wonderful 75.1% rating as Mega Gardevoir! It truly is lovely to see that so many of you appreciate Gardevoir as much as Gardevoir appreciates you.

7. Do you, by chance, appreciate a partner with a powerful bite? Because if so, you may have been one of the ones who helped Mawile get elected to the Sultans of Smash! While their Standard Form earned themselves a respectable 58.4% Smash rating, their Mega Evolution takes it even further! How much further? Well, how about taking it to an absolutely stunning 70.7%?! Guess that extra jaw just adds that much more to love.

8. People, it seems, appreciate a number of things. Many appreciate the fine metals that can be found here on Earth. Many appreciate monsters, big and small (especially the big ones as this next Pokemon shows). And many appreciate someone who will help the environment. So it's probably no surprise that many people really appreciate those three things put together in the form of Aggron, the metal giant monster who plants new trees in their claimed territory! At 60.7% Smashable in Standard form and an unusually lacking in decimal places 55% Smashable in Mega Evolution, it seems consensus has agreed that Aggron also has "Smashable" as an appreciable point.

9. How do you feel about roses? Because to many, there's just something about roses that gives them that certain je ne sais quoi, if you will. And it seems Roselia, the Pokemon embodying roses, has inherited that something! At 52.8%, Roselia certainly has a certain romance to them! Though, uh, like with Tentacruel, maybe keep some antidotes on hand, just in case you accidentally touch the roses and find yourself on the business end of Roselia's poison...

10. Dragons! No matter the form they take, it seems they captivate the imagination and romance of many people. And Flygon is no exception. Maybe it's their power and their always appreciated typing of Ground/Dragon. Or maybe it's those lovely greens tastefully accented with red. Whatever it is, it's gotten them a nice 59.1% Smash rating!

11. Well, seems Houndoom's no longer the only member of the "My Mega is More Smashable" club, because we have another entrant. Altaria, that fluffy bird of cotton and unexpected dragon power, has made on the list thanks to their Mega Evolution succeeding where the Standard Form failed, and achieving a 52.9% Smash rating! Guess that added fluffiness really adds something. Still, also like Houndoom, respect must be given to standard Altaria, as they got pretty close to smashable at 46.5%.

12. This next one does as their name indicates (if you know Japanese) and cuts their way through the competition to land on the list! That's right, Zangoose has achieved a 66.5% Smash rating and made a name for themselves within the Sultans. Though, there's probably a comedy to be found somewhere in the fact that a Pokemon so associated with cutting should be voted as being associated with a verb usually reserved for more blunt objects. ...No? Just to me? Darn.

13. But as near anyone can tell you, Zangoose has a rival, and no way in hell is Seviper gonna let their rival take a spot uncontested! So, having worked had to get a 51.6% smash rating, they've arrived to ensure Zangoose has to work to keep that spot of theirs! At least that's what they want you to think, but I'll let you in on a little secret: That wasn't fighting they were doing earlier. Totally and definitely unrelated note, did you know Seviper and Zangoose share egg groups? ...Also unrelated, how do you feel about walking around and hatching eggs?

14. She's beauty, she's grace, her pre-evolution's annoying as hell to find in Gen III thus preventing many from having her as their ace, it's Milotic! Considered one of the most beautiful Pokemon in world thanks to their beautiful, prismatic scales and elegant moves in the water, that impressive 77.4% Smash rating would certainly seem to back this!

15. It's said in the Hoenn region that one must be careful how they get rid of their old dolls, as a doll that feels cruelly abandoned may come back to get their vengeance. And for good reason, as nobody wants a visit from an angry Banette. ...Or at least, so you'd think, but judging by the 51.1% Smash rating in Standard form and that vastly increased 71.5% rating as Mega Banette, I'm starting to think some of y'all would abandon a doll intentionally to get a Banette to come to you. Unless... y'all are hoping to show Banettes the love they never received back before they became a ghost doll? In which case, admirable!

16. Nobody wants to be like Cassandra the Oracle. To be like Cassandra is to have nobody believe you when you foresee disaster, or worse, be blamed for it! And sadly, that's just what has happened for this Pokemon. But for you all reading this, I commend you, for according to these numbers, you've seen past the superstitions and realized that, in truth, Absol was simply trying to warn people! Indeed, between Standard Form's 77% Smash rating and Mega Absol's whopping 80.4% rating, it seems people are finally giving Absol the proper reverence they deserve, though I'm sure that beautiful white fur and excellent form doesn't hurt.

17. Bagon have always dreamed of soaring the skies, and like any good dream, with hard work and determination that comes true upon reaching their final evolution of Salamence! But what they didn't tell them was that getting there would also make them hella smashable (55.3% smashable to be precise!) Though sadly, it seems there is such a thing as "too much of a good thing", as Mega Salamence lacks they smashability of Standard Form...

18. Once again, these next two prove my point about dragons absolutely capturing the passions of many. First off, we have the sister of the two Eon Dragons, Latias! Coming in at 64.1% for Standard Form and 56.2% for Mega Latias, the smashability of this dragon cannot be understated.

19. But, let us not downplay the brother in this. Latios has also made great impacts in the world of Pokesmashing! With an even 58% rating in Standard Form and a 54.4% rating as Mega Latios, it seems this dragon won't be too far behind Latias.

20. "See this fish? I'm gonna wrestle it." These are the words of a... shall we say, well known fan of this next Pokemon. Yes, it is time for Kyogre, the leviathan of Hoenn, to take their place in the Sultans of Smash! Coming in at 51.3% Smashable in Standard Form and 52.7% Smashable after Primal Reversion, seems this fish has more than one way to make someone wet, eh?

21. But of course, much like with the rivalry of Zangoose and Seviper mentioned above, Kyogre's rival just can't let them get away with this so easily! Fortunately for their rivalry (but probably not so much for everyone else), the behemoth of Hoenn Groudon has managed to pull themselves a 54.5% Smash rating in standard form and a 51.4% after Primal Reversion, ensuring they can be there to quarrel with Kyogre again! Jeez, wish we had someone who could tell them to knock it off...

22. Oh wait, we do! More specifically, we have Rayquaza with the steel chair! OK maybe we don't have the steel chair but none the less, Rayquaza's two ratings of 71.2% (Standard Form) and 67.3% (Mega Evolution) means Rayquaza will also be here to make sure those two behave! Because otherwise, Rayquaza's gonna have to show them how Mega Rayquaza made Smogon Ubers into An Actual Tier.

23. And last, but certainly not least, we have a visitor! Where do they come from? Oh, space! Yes, our final entry into the Sultans of Smash is the first Mythical Pokemon to be available through normal gameplay, Deoxys! At four forms, all of which have been voted Smashable at 79.8% for Normal Forme and Attack Forme, 58.1% for Defense Forme, and 73.6% for Speed Forme! But, not surprising. With 5 formes, there's surely something for everyone! Also, props to the person who made the "call Speed Deoxys Amtrak the way they high speed rail" joke, that got one of the best laughs out of me in a while.

And thus, we bring the Gen III Who's Who of Smashing to a close, bringing us up to an even 66 Sultans of Smash! Don't touch that unfollow button, we have more coming soon no doubt!

Pokemon Team Characterization - Carmine

Look, I knew I was going to do this the instant I saw she had a Vulpix. Also I think Carmine might have accidentally become my favorite ScarVi character. Oopsie doodles, I guess. It's been a while since I've done one of these, so for the unfamiliar, this is where I look at the trainer's team and talk about how their team composition and move selections inform their character. Carmine being a favorite, I of course hold many opinions.

I'm sticking with just her final team. Reason being, her team never changes. Interestingly she has Vulpix at the start, drops it in your second battle and all quest battles, but picks it back up for the finale. Morpeko and Sewaddle show up in the battle where Vulpix leaves instead. I don't have anything profound to talk about on that which can't be talked about in the larger analysis, so with that!

The Lead (Mightyena) Mightyena as a lead means Intimidate. This can be seen as mostly a competitive move; lead Intimidate is frequent in the series. But I think it says a little more regarding Carmine, and the specificity of "Why Mightyena?" It's not exactly super tough as a Pokemon.

Carmine, in her entirety, operates off the difference between how she presents, and how she actually is. The impression she projects is one of strength and severity, but the core of her person is...fairly soft. When she opens up to the player, she's able to act as her genuine self, which involves some pretty silly photos taken together while searching for the masks. A big fluffy hyena-dog that can snarl real nice and seem scary is the perfect entry to this idea. There's intimidation, but if you can get past that, the rest is pretty easy to handle. Not that she'll make it easy. Play Rough belies a tendency to be a bit critical and, dare I say, nasty at times? She does openly mock you if you use a not-very-effective attack. But she can come around. I think Howl emphasizes her straight-forward nature. It's one stat getting buffed, and it's attack. No frills, just straight to the point.

The major change of its set is going from Take Down to Sucker Punch. Take Down deals recoil, and implies a certain...self-sabotage. Meanwhile Sucker Punch is taking initiative, and getting ahead of things. Something between her first fight and last fight changed, and altered her mindset to go from a self-defeating one, to one of taking charge.

The Ace (Sinistcha) Sinistcha's defining feature is double status. Stun Spore with paralysis, Scald with a chance to burn. Both play into Hex, which doubles in power if the foe is afflicted, while Matcha Gotcha absorbs HP based on damage dealt. Operating together, I think this shows Carmine as someone who is most in control when others are put down. I don't mean that to imply she's nasty, more that she is someone who is avoidant toward the possibility of losing, or facing someone stronger. She won't fight as directly, especially if she can't win. She'd rather hinder what people can do to threaten her, than push herself. The Occa Berry is an interesting choice as well. There are other weaknesses Sinistcha has, but it's specifically Fire, the threat of being burned, that she worries about. She's guarded.

But at the same time...Hospitality. This is the last Pokemon on the team, and its ability emphasizes healing of a battle partner. In singles, this does nothing. But in doubles, it implies the sense that if she feels you have her back, she'll have yours. She'll take care of people she feels comfortable around.

Care and Control (Leavanny and Ninetales) Leavanny, and prior to this, Swadloon, are an interesting addition to the team. For those not familiar with the Pokelore, Leavanny knits leaf clothes for Sewaddle and Swadloon, with Swadloon being completely bundled up within them. The decision to have Swadloon at first is, I think, the sense of self-protection. Swadloon's set even focuses on speed control through Sticky Web and Trailblaze. Its appearance in her second fight is revealing. Sticky Web is playing to her team's general structure of disrupting the opponent, but Trailblaze is setting out to do something new and different, and its function is building herself up.

By the time it's Leavanny, she's now focused on attack, emphasizing that direct nature. But Fell Stinger is an interesting choice, given X-Scissor's presence. This move boosts attack by 3 if she lands a KO. I think this speaks, generally, to Carmine's confidence. Despite the outward appearance of someone so confident she seems arrogant, internally there's an anxiety around being shown she's not as strong as she thinks. When the player wins, she seems genuinely upset at the loss, but not in an outburst way like Ortega, or even a truly disappointed way like Hop. Like something's been revealed that she wish hadn't been. She doesn't like that she can't be as strong as she presents. Fell Stinger implies the sense that, when she meets with success, she responds well to it. There's an excitement to seeing something pay off, and it suggests she focuses on those shots of reinforcement. There's no reason to carry two Bug moves, but she wants to feel that sense of accomplishment.

By contrast, Ninetales is there at the start, leaves, and comes back. Its moveset does not change. It is the only Pokemon that does not change a single move, and includes Will-o-Wisp, and Disable. Moves for disruption. Specifically, cutting the damage she receives, and removing attacks she doesn't like. Flamethrower is the obvious offensive move, but Extrasensory is an unusual choice. By coverage, the best pick is Energy Ball; Grass hits all of Fire's weaknesses super-effectively. Extrasensory is interesting because it's a naturally learned move that has flinch. Again, disruption. But also, Ninetales only knows moves it can learn naturally. This also true of Leavanny and Mightyena. I think this focus on what's learned naturally is reflective of her attachment to her home. Carmine cares about Kitakami as it is, and concerns herself with allowing others to visit sacred areas, or the degradation of culture to tourism. Maintaining a sort of natural essence seems important to her.

Double Sided (Morpeko) But at the same time, Carmine operates on multitudes. On the one hand, she cares deeply about the preservation of Kitakami's culture. But on the other, by the end of it all, she's come around to having people visit. On the one hand, she's intense and critical, but at the same time genuinely does care. Morpeko's form shift shows both sides, with Focus Sash being the near guarantee. To really understand Carmine, you have to understand both sides, and its moveset further reflects this.

On the one hand, disruption through Thunder Wave. On the other, building herself up through Aura Wheel. Both sides coexist within Morpeko. It's interesting to note that, as one of two that have TMs, one of the moves she taught it? Lash Out. Dealing greater damage when stats are lowered. When shaken, when threatened, she'll react strongly. At her core, she's reactive, and responds to perceived slights or injustice with an intense retaliation.

Summation Carmine's team suggests someone who is, at once, presenting as entirely collected while avoiding her shortcomings being known. She operates on a reactive, defensive approach; disrupting opponents and preventing them from getting too close to the core of her personality. She thrives off of seeming superior, but genuinely does light up at her accomplishments, and lives for the satisfaction of success. While initially fully avoidant, by the end of the DLC, she's come around to trying to work on improving herself, but likely still has trouble letting go of frustrations with setbacks and fear of failure.

If you have a different read on the team, I'd love to hear it. As mentioned, she kinda accidentally became my current favorite of ScarVi, so I'm very up for discussing her character.

On first impressions god this is the biggest emo, sleep-deprived edgelord I've had the pleasure of witnessing ^^ he probably must listen to prog rock in his free time too. He's either going to be horrible to the protagonist or terribly misunderstood; personally I want to root for this poor little meow meow and go terribly misunderstood. He lost too many pokemon battles as a kid and was bullied and now he is jaded </3. Which is why he has the big fluffy guy next to him! For emotional support cuddles! They are besties for life :D I think Mr. Trainer here should be called Bowie. As for his pokemon, it looks like either a hyena or a skunk to me. It's probably called a grimyena or something (sorry Dolphin ily) 2. She looks like Misty! But distinctly not </3. So, I propose this is Misty's sister, Stacey, who moved abroad on her own quest to become a pokemon champion :D. Judging by her friend, she likes all the cute pokemon, but probably also the normal types by the looks of it. A basic teenage girl, for the most part, scrappy and positive and probably all to eager to yell baka at any male teenage boys that challenge her. Her pokemon is distinctly a cow, I think Milkmin is fitting :) 3. He doesn't look very nice :(. Very stern and strict and probably scoffs at those with a very undeveloped team. It's clear he takes a lot of pride in what he does. However that is NOT a real charizard that I spot. It soft and round and actually cute, with a happy smile (he does all the smiling for the trainer, like a personal butler). But I was so frustrated with not being able to name what the not-charizard was that I just had to find out. It's a dragonite! I hope you are treated well and not abused by your (possibly evil) master, who I am deeming Mr. Rockfort. I hope Rockfort and Bowie get to go at it one day, I think that would be funny :3 Anyways here you go friend! Simple explanation of what it's like to be a trans woman:

Being called a girl, putting on clothes that society typically views as feminine, and using a more "girlish" name releases the happy chemicals in my brain. I enjoy the happy chemicals.

Being called a boy, dressing in ways that society typically views as masculine, and having body hair releases the sad chemicals in my brain. I don't like the sad chemicals because they make me sad.

Edit: Since people are focusing on the body hair comment, let me elaborate. Society typically views body hair ASA masculine thing. This has the unfortunate consequence of many women being pressured to shave something that is perfectly natural and beautiful. It has also caused my brain to release the sad chemicals whenever I see the sheer amount of body hair I have. I don't like the sad chemicals.

I'mm baaaack (can we normalize 3 days on, 1 week off work schedules; I am very tired. And while we're at it, free college. I want to eat more too)!!

I've been a fan of Dead by Daylight for quite some time. So unsurprisingly, I made a possible trainer card for my favorite survivor: Zarina Kassir. I chose to focus on dark type pokémon since they are unfairly and inaccurately considered "bad" in most media for their type and their typically intimidating looks. It's suitable for her own story in which she is keenly aware how she is seen as the "other" more often than not. So I connected her pokemon to her story, unique perks and origins.

That all said, it's time to enter the fog...

Mightyena is named after the hyena—an animal found in Lebanon. How precious would it be if she received a poochyena from her father? My heart melts at her having a strong bond—even investigating her father's death—with a Pokémon that was given to her by him when she was still a child.

Zoroark, like Zarina, knows how to maintain a disguise. A key part of her lore is that she would cover her Lebanese origins by changing her name, appearance and diet. While eventually embracing her Lebanese roots, her line of work could still require disguises. I imagine she knows from experience that disguises can be necessary for investigative work. Zoroark can help with that part of her work.

Absol with the ability "justified" won this spot*. Absols are misunderstood as harbingers of disaster, but really they seeks to protect people with their acute sensitivity to terrible happenings. Plus it has entries referring to mountains, such as the range Mount Lebanon where they could natively live.

Liepard for perk "Off the Record." It's a sneaky Pokémon so it gives off the same sleuth-like quality as the perk. And it keeps to a trend of dark types. There also is record of leopards in Lebanon at one point. If reading serves correct, they are referred to as Arabian leopards due to their geographical distribution. The more you know.

Wishiwashi for perk "Red Herring," where herrings are related to sardines (so generally small fish). Zarina is quite the activist. She would think that, like wishiwashi, more is achieved when together than alone. Bonus points that it looks so intimidating when schooling, much like dark type pokémon tend to.

Shaymin for the perk "for the people" (learns healing wish). Lebanon, like many places, is naturally home to many beautiful flowers. Notably the Madonna Lily, which is prominent in Lebanon and that I think would look quite lovely for a shaymin. I don't care if they are canonically mystical because it's a perfect pair: a beautiful flower in looks and a warrior at heart.

And it wouldn't be me without saying this: stay magical, friends~ ✨💖✨

*I will mention that there was a close tie between Lucario, Arcanine or Absol. All are 4-legged (I wanted to avoid too many humanoid qualities), plus all of them can have "justified" as an ability. Zarina seeks justice, so it's only fitting that she has a pokémon with an ability to match. An arcanine and a lucario were considered to give her team more type variety, while Absol was for type consistency. I ruled out Arcanine due to their association with officers in both the games and anime. Lucario was too humanoid—and I saw too much about lucario and zoroark that I never want in my mind again. So only one choice remained.

The answer is quite long so the rest is under the cut...

Riddle's mom might not approve because she thinks pets are a waste of time. But Riddle would learn from Azul a bit, just a bit, and lie that the exceptional students are given a familiar to help their image. That got his mom to change her opinion quickly.

Ace's family would fawn over the fire puppy, it was just so warm and fluffy, also a good boy who guards the house against intruders. There may be times Growlithe gets cheeky and pranks both brothers while pretending to cry to the mom who scolds her sons.

Deuce's mom would absolutely adore the Togepi, whenever Deuce ran errands with his mom and some people ask what was he carrying in his chest carrier and Deuce goes "My child!" and Ms. Spade plays along with it.

Trey's family would absolutely make Alcremie their mascot. The store sign is getting an upgrade and Alcremie themed desserts are gonna line the cake shelves. His sibling might unintentionally try to dab their finger on the Pokemon cause its made of cream. Trey has to remind them gently that Alcremie has personal space.

Cater's sisters would be gushing over Wynaut at first until it started to act so confused with what they were doing that they lose interest. Turns out Wynaut does this on purpose cause Cater is the only one who gets to see it active.

Leona brings his meowth home and immediately acts like a lil turd to those who whisper nasty rumors behind his back. Meowth may sass Leona from time to time but they ain't taking no disrespect for their trainer. Cheka's attention now goes to Meowth who handles the cub with the patience of a saint.

Ruggie is already using his little friend to help around the neighborhood. The kids know Murkrow, the neighbors know Murkrow. Granny Bucchi? She's already considered it a grandchild. Everyone has Murkrow's back and if some cheeky guy tries to pick on it by throwing rocks, they'll be hounded by the hyena fam.

Jack brought home his Maractus and his siblings were in awe of a living cactus. Maractus likes to sway from their wolf tails and ride on them like on would do to a blanket being dragged on the floor.

Azul showed his parents his new familiar and his mom is reminded of baby Azul. Clobbopus is gonna be the new baby of the household. And if Azul's old bullies try anything with him, Clobbopus gonna throw these hands and smack away.

The leech twins brought their Pokemon to their home, Foongus was placed in a bubble spell to keep it from drowning. Their dad was expecting them to get a dangerous-looking familiar but they came home with a derpy axolotl and a mushroom. He can't argue with his sons though. Mama Leech making sure their Pokemon feel comfortable at home. Maybe even made a room with an air pocket so that Foongus and Wooper don't have to worry about air.

Kalim's family would frighten Sunkern since there were so many strangers trying to pet it. Kalim for once gently scolds his siblings that they shouldn't rush towards Sunkern and if they want to play with him they have to promise to be gentle with him. His father was surprised but he thinks it was alright because his son is learning to set boundaries and be responsible.

Jamil's sister would find Natu so adorable and would borrow it for selfies and tell all her friends about her brother's cute parrot thing. Natu would disappear on her when she wants another selfy and Najma would pout when she sees the pokemon perched on her brother's shoulder. Jamil just smugly grins at her.

Vil's father would approve of Snom. Despite that his fans would think he'd get a pretty familiar, they'd grow to like Snom right away. Those beady eyes were so irresistible. The moment it evolves into a Frosmoth, his fans would fawn over it.

Rook's family would admire the beautiful plumage on Braviary. When the two go hunting, they have a bit of competition between each other on who can catch the biggest animal they can hunt. It's always a draw.

Epel's family thought that he got an apple from one of his classmates and it was really big. But to their surprise, it was a small dragon in the apple. Flapple would want to show off by lifting up the heavy tools with ease and helping sort quality apples. The Felmier family openly appreciates Flapple. Granny Felmier even made a nice little hat and scarf for her grandson's familiar.

Idia and Ortho wouldn't want the STYX to treat their Pokemon like the subjects they experiment on. So, they mostly keep them close whenever they get home. The Pokemon are the only ones who can provide them with temporary relief from this organization.

Malleus returns home with Vanillite and the fae servants were confused because why isn't their master finishing that ice cream- oh wait, it has a face... Some of the fae would be a bit shocked to see this kind of familiar that was given to their prince. Some might ask if they didn't let him pick one more suited to his image.

Malleus just waves them off by saying he specifically wanted this creature. Vanillite gets a very pampered home life.

Lilia wants to celebrate getting their Pokemon by making some dinner, Silver does the old, "Look what's that?" trick on Lilia as he and Teddiursa stuff Gulpin's maw with their portions. Gulpin is just happy to be fed.

Sebek is proudly showing his parents his new familiar who is currently mimicking his pose as he speaks. Mama Zigvolt is cooing at the little fairy bug while Papa Zigvolt is genuinely curious about what kind of familiar it was. Ribombee actually aiding his father in dental checkups is the cutest image ever.

somewhat related to this ask; I never finished Moon and never played US/UM so I had to go with what I knew from the internet and research😅

Note: This is considered non canon to the fic. Written for fun!

Now, Soni knows that a certain bird headmaster flew to the South countries for a nice tropical vacation. Maybe she's petty, but dammit, this was also a vacation for her too.

The Ride Pokemon was something that many were surprised at, mostly because friendly Pokemon that listened to their command but were technically considered Wild wasn't a thing in other regions (that I know of).

I can see some of them playing around with Mantine and riding the waves.

Cater would definitely be taking pictures of the local beaches and hotspots where you can take pictures in some places. I remember that being a thing in Moon. It still pains him that he can't really upload the pictures, but he can share them with the others afterwards.

Of course, Soni has sunscreen because Alola was definitely going to cause sunburns. Ace and Deuce had to be glared down to put some on them, Riddle helping her get the rowdy first years.

For the first time in a while, Soni would be ready to just relax and have some quality time to play with Happiny in the ocean. Of course, the little bun has a floatie and it looks like a Pokepuff. At one point, Floyd took Happiny on a swim, the little one enjoying the speed.

In other miscellaneous events, Soni and co. enjoyed playing sports on the beach like volleyball and all sorts of activities that they could do, including finding Pyukumuku in the sand.

Then she goes on to say that the mucous on its body can soothe sunburnt skin for those who forgot about it. No wait times either! Just apply and you're set! Suddenly, they are all very lucky to have listened to her earlier. Otherwise, this would've been an experience that they would've never forgotten.

Although Soni has to tell the others to be wary of Sandyghast and Pallosand because they were common in Alola, much to their dismay.

It's one of the things that they regret making Soni do because there are times when she rattles off incredibly disturbing facts about Pokemon that they could've lived without ever knowing alkdkjsalfjl; Casual Pokegraphic Soni coming back to bite them huhuh

Because dealing with long wet hair is a pain in the butt, Soni still has her ponytail. She is sporting a sunhat though. However, despite this, Soni is still recognized by people because a Champion as high profile as Soni is bound to get some people looking. The more battle-hungry ones try to challenge her to a friendly battle and despite the defeat, thank her for the experience.

It's a complete difference to the higher ranking Kalosian trainers who want to challenge Soni to an official match for her title, despite not having the eight badges, not defeating the Elite Four beforehand, or both.

Ruggie would try to devour the malasadas ASAP. There's absolutely no way that this doughnut-loving hyena wouldn't. As a result, Leona has to pay up for those things. Morpeko, who's also tagging along, enjoys the delicious food as well.

Speaking of that, here comes the Battle Buffet.

Despite being on vacation, Soni has to get them through the Battle Buffet. Even though some of them had Pokemon, it was better for her to handle the battles.

Out of the group, the ones who can handle fighting the best would probably be the people who've dealt with Pokemon the longest like Deuce, Ace, and Ruggie. Nothing will get in the way of Morpeko's eating, especially when it's in Hangry Mode.

Kalim could also work with Joltik on this, but I can see him conceding to the other person whenever they want something and it's the last dish.

Vil, despite having Bidoof, lets Soni do the work as Bidoof isn't used to fighting other Pokemon. In the meantime, Vil was checking out the clothing shops on the islands, something that doesn't take very long as he browses the clothing options. Most of it leans to a tropical setting, which makes sense to Alola.

Sir Gulps and Alolan Grimer from Lilia though handily get Lilia and the Diasomnia crew as a whole a bunch of food. Malleus happily consumes the Vanillite Parfait.

Mmm, Tamato Pasta, Miltank Cheese Pizza, Take Down Steak, Chansey Omelette, Hoenn Ramen, all that good stuff- it's all delicious.

Cater really enjoyed the Tamato sauce mixed in with the Hoenn Ramen combo. A good kick of spice, although a little too much at times.

Given the timeline of the Pokemon World at this point (I'm mostly fudging it because why not), Soni is met with Dexio and Sina who were also on vacation from Professor Sycamore.

Cue the Spiderman Meme with pointing.

Soni: "What the hell are you two doing here?!"

Dexio: "We're on vacation!"

Soni: "I am too... sorta. It's complicated!"

Soni does her best to not get involved in whatever the hell is happening in Alola because she was on vacation before she had to go back to TWST.
