it is so so gratifying to learn how to cook especially if you are historically “picky” and have sensory issues with food… to now have the power over it. the upper hand. the knowledge of what i do and don’t like and how i do and don’t like things prepared and the way it has empowered me to add so many new foods to my diet. plus i get to play kitchen wizard.

This Western dinner is from Astons Specialities at Sembawang Shopping Centre. Mum only seems to like the Crispy Fried Fish (S$11.50) here citing the crispiness of the bread crumble coated fish fillet. Got for her onion rings and tasty rice for the two side dishes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I went for the limited time Spanish Chestnut Pork (S$17.90) with my pick of coleslaw and house salad. The juicy and flavourful pork is still a little pink inside, just the way I like. The dish comes with a small cup of apple sauce at the side.

Tumblr media
༄ 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬 :: izuku midoriya, katsuki bakugou, shoto todoroki & eijirou kirishima
༄ 𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐬/𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 :: none, just fluff
༄ 𝐚/𝐧 :: here's some fluffiness before I go on hiatus. Exams are getting closer, so I really need to focus on those. I'll probably be back in June or at the end of May. Till then <3
Tumblr media
♡ IZUKU :: It was a beautiful sunny day, just the two of you on a picnic date. He prepared a basket full of your favorite fruits, snacks, drinks and a few slices of mini sandwiches. That's what you like so much about him, he knows you, like the pages of his old torn notebook. You were just watching some birds fly freely in the sky, munching on a green apple slice, when you heard the boy next to you mumble something. "Sorry, i wasn't paying attention, could you please repeat that for me?" You said with a soft smile, looking at him. "I-," he started and then he placed his face in both of his hands, "iloveyoualotandiunderstandifyou-," he started, but was cut off by a light giggle, "Izu, i love you too, okay?" The way his face was covered in a slightly deep red, was quite concerning for you. Not gonna lie, you thought he was chocking on a grape.
Tumblr media
♡ KATSUKI :: This boy challenged you to make his favorite spicy dish, teasing you about, "there's no way you could make it the same as my old hag." So, you decided to show your hidden skills. You've spent a lot of times in the kitchen, but Katsuki has never tasted your food. Chopping the green onions with a normal speed, Katsuki smacked his lips, standing behind you and looking over your shoulders. "You're not doing it fast enough and you need to add more spice to the pork." You just rolled your eyes and chased him out of his own kitchen with the knife you were chopping the onions with, "you wanna have diarrhea shooting out of your ass, mhm?" You asked, to which you were only met with silence, "thought so." After a while, you were finally done and you placed the steaming hot plate on the table, "enjoy, shithead." Katsuki took a bite and paused midway chewing, "this is why i love you so damn much, you can pull of anything-," he stopped midway and groaned at your teasing expression, "i take it back, i don't love your dumbass anymore," you wrapped your arms around his neck, forgetting he has food in his mouth, "i love you so much more, even though you ugly as hell." With those words, you only recieved a flick on the forehead.
Tumblr media
♡ SHOTO :: You two were on the roof at midnight, enjoying each others presence as the chilly wind slowly brushed past your faces and hair. Whenever Shoto felt like he needed to escape from his surroundings, he would call you, because only you could understand him, only your embrace felt like the softest blanket, only your touch could make him feel like his skin was on fire without him using his quirk, only you-, the soft snort you let out is adorable, but that also interrupted those thoughts of his. "You were staring at me for like two minutes, is there something wrong, Sho?" He could only respond with a shake of his head. You moved closer to him and brushed his ruffled red and white hair out of his face, cupping his cold left cheek, before placing a delicate kiss on his scar. "I feel weird. Like, my heart feels full and warm when i'm with you. I don't know how to explain it," he started, "Is this what love feels like? Because if it does, then I never want to fall out of love with you." Frozen in place, your eyes start to become glossy, "hey, don't cry, love. Is it something i said?" You sighed and shook your head, "no, it's just that- i'm so happy that you feel the same way as i do." He had that soft smile on his face, "I love you....did i say that right?" You chuckled, "yes, Shoto, you said it right. " He grabbed your chin and pulled you in for a warm kiss, this kiss was totally needed with the cold breeze against both of your skin.
Tumblr media
♡ EIJIROU :: This baby begged you do re-do his roots. So, here he is, sitting between your legs on the cold floor inside your dorm room. All of his roots were covered in bright red hair-dye, so you decided to slowly massage his scalp with your gloved hands. After you were done, you decided to watch a few minutes of princess and the frog for the who knows how many times. A few minutes into watching the movie, your alarm went off, signaling that it was time to wash the dye out of Eijirou's hair. He liked the way you always wanted to help him and how your hands were doing magic in his shampooed hair. "Baby, you should let me spoil you like you spoil me, y'know," he said with eyes closed as you were now blow drying his hair, "i feel like i'm not doing enough to make you happy." This made you tug at his hair, "Eiji, whoever told you that, needs to eat dog shit. You are doing more than enough and making someone happy isn't about spoiling them." You responded, you were now practically leaning your face down at his level. "I guess you're right," you laughed and mumbled, "i'm always right," but the laughing soon came to a stop when you heard a, "no you're not." And Eijirou only got his shoulder hit with the parting comb. "I love you, pretty," he started as he rubbed your knee in circles, "and i promise i'm going to show it to you more often." You leaned his head back and pecked his forehead softly, "i love you a lot more Eiji, just don't say those things anymore, or else you're gonna be walking around with those black roots like a marker that's running out of ink."

This a very fun salad to make! If you don't have all the ingredients you can always substitute things for things you already have in your pantry.
If you want the salad to be a meal, you can always add some grilled or fried chicken, tofu, or pork on top and it will be delicious!

1/4 cup cooked quinoa
1/4 cup chopped almonds
1/4 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup pomegranate seeds
1/2 red onion (chopped)

Sesame Seeds (To top)
Poppy Seeds

3 tbsp Apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup Olive oil
Salt and pepper
Parsely
1/2 tsp paprika
1 tsp maple syrup

Cook your quinoa according to the directions on the package. Cover carrots and sliced sweet potatoes with oil, and salt and pepper. Bake at 400 F for 20 minutes.
In a large serving bowl add your arugula, tri-color carrots, sweet potato, red onion, cooked quinoa, pomegranate seeds, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, chopped almonds, and anything else you'd like to add.
To make the dressing mix all the dressing ingredients together until combined. Add as much salt and pepper as you'd like.

i wrote a book called cooking is terrible, which you can buy on amazon, or at any of the retailers here, or pretty much anywhere you can buy books.
the main post was getting pretty long, and the faq was also pretty long, but people often ask what kinds of recipes are in it, so here are some example recipes!
butter bean salad
Rinse and drain a tin of butter beans. Add crumbled feta and capers. Dress with lemon juice, olive oil, and a little bit of mustard.
Variations: Add quartered marinated artichoke hearts. Add chopped red onion. Add fresh chopped parsley, or fresh or dried thyme. Add sumac to the dressing. (If you do all these things, you have a main course salad that is fancy enough to serve at a party, or to grudgingly take to the work potluck.)
Keeps in the fridge for three to five days.
shitty soup
This soup isn’t actually shitty—it’s actually nice, and I eat it a lot—but we started calling it shitty soup, and the name’s stuck.
Bring enough stock for one person to a boil.
Add about 2 Tbsp of pastina. When the pasta is nearly done (which is only like, two minutes), crack in an egg and turn the pot to a simmer. After about two minutes of simmering, add some sort of veggie—shredded carrots, fresh or frozen spinach, frozen peas—and let it cook for another minute or two. Tada! You’ve made soup.
You can change this up, and don’t have to include all three bits—pasta and a few veggies, or just an egg boiled in stock, is great, and totally a meal. I give all three components mainly so there’s a note about timing. There are a million variations on this—add tomato paste or sesame oil, add other veggies, cook the egg to different degrees of doneness, etc. You can add a little cheese at the end, or a handful of (rinsed) tinned beans, or shreds of previously cooked meat. But at its most basic, broth + something else = soup, which is a meal that you can totally manage to make for yourself in under ten minutes, and then you can smugly tell the internet that you’re sure that what they’re having is nice and all, but you’re having homemade soup. And let’s be honest—most nights, this soup is not good enough to justify that, but who cares. Sometimes you gotta take what you can get.
things you can put on top of cottage cheese or yogurt to make them feel more like an interesting meal
this is just a list of ideas. the things in parentheses are optional extras, though you can use—or not use—whatever you'd like.
Peach or pineapple chunks
Jam
Pumpkin or apple butter
Berries
Cantaloupe/rockmelon
Granola or muesli
Apples, cinnamon, and honey
Literally just honey
Cinnamon sugar
Sunflower seeds + raisins + shredded cheese
Chili powder + black beans + avocado
Chopped tomatoes + garlic (+ spinach) (+ steak seasoning)
Cut-up spinach and chopped green onions (+ tomatoes)
Sundried tomatoes and olives
Chopped cucumber and olives (+ za’atar)
Salsa or hot sauce
Chopped radish, ready cooked beets, or cucumber + dill (+ garlic)
Mix in a bunch of Milo, Nesquick, or other sweetened chocolate powder. (You might want to add a splash of milk.)
Mangos + cardamom (+ honey or other sweetener) (+ pistachios)
Balsamic vinegar (+ strawberries if you wanna get fancy)
Basically any fresh herbs you have + salt
A spoonful of nut butter (+ chocolate)
Dried meat (like pork or mushroom floss, or that weird shredded jerky) + green onion
if you think all this sounds terrible, that's cool—this is not the cookbook for you.
if you're like, 'oh shit, i could make that soup in less than fifteen minutes,' maybe pick up a copy.

Dinner Recipe: Pulled Pork
Tumblr media
TIME: ★★★★
PRICE: ★★★★
EASE: ★★★★
CLEANUP: ★★★★
I evaluate "time" based on how much active prep time you spend. This is a slow cooker recipe which means that while active cooking time is only about 10 minutes, it will have to cook for about 4 hours* *Crock pots are like horses. You have to soul-bond with them, touch your forehead to them, whisper gently to them, and only then can you truly know how long your particular slow-cooker takes to cook on low and high settings.
I recently discovered that pork chops can be extremely inexpensive at the grocery store! Turns out, they make GREAT shredded BBQ pork. I do not care for fatty cuts of meat (it's a texture thing,) and pork chops are fairly lean, so this is an amazing, cheap way to get a lot of food for me. Ingredients:
Boneless pork chops (my local grocery has packs of 6 small pork chops for $5.)
Salt/Pepper/Preferred spices (I really like garlic powder and paprika)
Chicken broth (or water+powder broth base)
Onion (I always use onion-types interchangeably because I'm an uncultured heathen.)
BBQ Sauce
The following is my approximate ratio for cooking, but you can easily adjust it to your preference/amount! This particular recipe is extremely flexible with ratios.
Season about 3-4 pork chops to your liking.
Throw pork chops, half an onion, half a cup of broth, and 1/3rd bottle of BBQ sauce into the crock pot.
Cook on low for 4 hours.
Shred pork.
Done. That's it. It's SO frikkin easy. Serve with a handful of lettuce or on a burger bun or rice or whatever. It's SUCH a great, quick set up!
I like cooking, so I made homemade buns and a homemade apple slaw to top ours! Here's a recipe for some Apple Slaw that I found!
Leftovers: Yes, yes, yes, yes. You can make a TON of this in one go (though maybe cook a bit longer if that's the case!) and freeze a bunch of it for later! Try to finish your frozen leftovers in 2-3 months! (Also a tip I found was to freeze it with some of the juices/broth so it doesn't get super dry on the reheat!) Note: This recipe can be Gluten Free! Just make sure you're using gluten free BBQ sauce!

Note
a suggestion on how to cook zhu bajie would be fried pork chops with a nice spiced apple sauce, it can double as a glaze it you add honey, plus honey can tenderize the meat, though i can also recommend katsudon or pork taco, though pork meatballs or herb and mushroom stuffed pork belly would be good during autumn, maybe if you want to be fancy, stir-fried lotus root with pork onions and mushrooms are good, or maybe bamboo shoot and pork fried rice, or some classic pork roast with a nice herb, peach or apple rub to cut back on the fat
Me rn: ✍️✍️ ayo this some good shit right here
Reader holding up a knife to Bajie's throat after he says some gross shit to her: Act like a pig. Get cooked like a pig. I haven't had quality meat in a while.
Bajie: *gulps* I-I would like to apologize...
Reader: Oh I bet you fuckin would.
