Can't wait till this blog is old enough so posts start showing in main tags, but for now, a salty lil rant
Shipping aside, I'm surprised by how Laios + Marcille even as friends doesn't get as much fan attention as I expected considering how heavily the series focuses on their development? I consider Laios to be the protag and Marcille to be the secondary protag but I can see the argument for the two of them being dual protags especially starting from around Thistle's house arc / Marcille becoming the dungeon lord. The protagonists are party members who bond over losing and finding a loved one. They save each other multiple times and live with each other in the end. They get copious amounts of screentime together and separate. They clearly care for each other and love each other (in whatever way). And there's no forced romance.
Before I read the manga, I saw all the yuri on my TL and was like YESSSSSS I'M READING THIS FOR THE YURI WOOOOOO and finished the Red Dragon anime episodes like "wow that was soooo good and gay. Let me go on Tumblr to see what people are talking about— people are shipping Marcille and LAIOS??? Probably annoying straight people who cannot conceptualize a friendship between a man and woman 🙄". So I started out with a squick for the ship. I think the fan perception made me believe F/M is canon and anything else would be like queer erasure? Except I later learned no ship is canon and was genuinely confused when the manga started giving us L/M crumbs (like the succubus chapter) because I thought the shippers were pulling this ship from thin air lmao.
The more I read, the more I was like.... "okay.... why are they kinda... okay I get it now... why am I.... oh shit... I'm really in it now" and I apologise because I really get it now 😭 and it baffles me to see people who have seemingly finished the manga going "Laios and Marcille have NO CHEMISTRY their only line of connection is through Falin". Like, okay, maybe that was how they were at the beginning (but I would argue they have chemistry even from the first few chapters), but that's the POINT and we get to see them evolve and get closer because they both love and miss Falin. Laios moves on from being "Falin's brother" and Marcille moves on from being "Falin's friend". L+M know about each other's deepest, subconscious desires. Marcille lives with the siblings at the end. No matter the bond, they are the two most precious people to her.
I was still squicky about romantic L/M even at the succubus chapter (which I know is probably the starting point for a lot of shippers) but THEN THE RABBIT CHAPTER. And after that when the Canaries found Marcille and she immediately jumped onto Laios I was like "Oh fuck. I'm really in this now fuck fuck FUCK". (Nothing makes me get into a dynamic more than having an initially squicky reaction because I'll need to have a strong enough conviction to overcome the squick LOL)
Anyways. Seeing people being annoying and pissy about L/M only made me like L/M more 🤡 because at least the shippers appreciate their bond. I'm a little desperate here. Even their platonic bond is kind of a rarepair in the English fandom 💀
I'm so glad the anime is going at the pace it is now because this is only the beginning of the L+M development!!!! The anime onlies will understand later!!! I made the same mistake and judged too early and I'm sorry!!!! So many anime L+M moments and panels and crumbs yet to be seen 🥺
Anyways. Laios and Marcille's bond is absolutely central to the plot and character development. But I wouldn't have guessed that if I didn't read the manga and just based it off fan attention.

1. How many works do you have on AO3?
103.
2. What’s your total AO3 wordcount?
1,825,148
3. What fandoms do you write for?
magicians and roswell, new mexico primarily! Also wrote a good omens fic recently but that might be a one and done for now.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
tales from a bookshop (good omens post season 2, fairly sure I'll never write anything this popular ever again because holy shit)
Lover's Touch - Queliot fic!
Promises - Queliot fic!
Maybe This Time - Queliot fic!
Fragments - Queliot fic!
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
I do! I didn't used to in my earlier fandom days but now I'm pretty consistent about it.
6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I once wrote a major character death fic for Queer as Folk where Justin died. Not really my style anymore. Back in my ff.net days I also wrote Merthur major character death fic, I'm just remembering.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I always try and do happily ever afters! A lot of my stories end with a sense of "and then they continue on their adventures, and life isn't always simple or easy", so in terms of the most pure, joyful ending? I guess I'll go living proof, which is the end of my episode series for Roswell, NM, which is just a "now they're married and happy forever" fic.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
I have before, but not as a rule. Once got called an abuse apologist & incest support (oh the horror /s) for exploring the canonical close friendship (not even a romantic relationship!) between two dudes from Shadowhunters lmao. And there's a troll in the Roswell fandom who writes hilarious and idiotic unhinged rants and I've been hit by her before, but she's got a scatter-shot approach and attacks a lot of people, so, at least I know it's nothing personal.
9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?
Yep! What is meant by "what kind" here? lol. I'm pretty vanilla. Mostly m/m, but I usually don't pass over the chance for m/m/f. I actually recently wrote my very first m/f full-on sex scene ever for a little Magicians snippet, Kady/Penny lol.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
No, I don't wrote crossovers in the sense that characters from various worlds don't meet each other in my fics. HOWEVER, two of my favorite things I've ever written have been Magicians AUs that crossed over the characters from that show with the full plot from other films. One is The Old Guard (A Comet Pulled From Orbit), and one is When Harry Met Sally (When Quentin Met Eliot).
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not to my knowledge
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yeah, a few times! Used to happen a lot back with old ff.net stuff, and I recently had my good omens fic translated.
13. Have you ever cowritten a fic before?
I'm co-writing a series right now! First time I've ever done it and it's a blast.
14. What's your all-time favourite ship?
uhhhhh don't make me choose? lmao. In terms of fandom engagement and longevity I guess Queliot at this point. But in terms of... the ships that made me discover and appreciate and explore fandom in the first place? Kirk/Spock and Brian/Justin. Classics.
16. What are your writing strengths?
dialogue and tone setting, I think?
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
plot details (I get bored and distracted mapping things out)
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
tbh I usually wince when I see it in fic? I'm not a fan. It always feels a little silly. Maybe very very sparingly if there's like a singular phrase or term of endearment or something but I'd rather just indicate that someone is speaking another language rather than write it out. I feel like it can often be tokenizing if you just have one character who's bilingual and you give them little one-liners in a different language. Idk. If the author is bilingual and doing a thing, then that's awesome. But I can usually tell when someone's just using google translate for stuff lol.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Gilmore Girls!
20. Favourite fic you’ve ever written?
I'm gonna cheat and name one each for my two big fandoms. Also idk if these are my favorites but they're two I really love that aren't my most popular:
Regrets, or the Absence Thereof (Magicians)
all the roads that lead you there (Roswell)
tagging @portraitofemmy @spiders-hth-is-an-outlier @orchardsinsnow @r-dtoblack and YOU if you're reading this and want to play!

hello op! i know m/f ships are banned here, but i would like to plead the case for harry du bois and dora ingerlund from disco elysium. yes harry is horribly misogynistic to dora in how he describes her. yes harry idolises her to the point of comparing her to the in-world jesus named dolores dei. yes the whole schtick of the ship is in the class differences between harry and dora becos harry is working class and dora is middle class (spawning the eternal question: are women bourgeois?) and dora got to up and leave their hellhole (loving) of a homeland when he couldn't!! yes class warfare is a major theme of discoE. yes /end propaganda. no worries if u do not wish to add them but in my heart they are a jeju.
I appreciate your enthusiasm, anon! Not being in the jeju poll doesn't mean your ship can't be jeju. And there can be straight jeju (to my friend Lilly who said Makoto Yuki/Aigis are jeju... your brain...), but the point of the poll is to point out toxicity between queer pairings as a parallel to JeJu, which is notoriously Yaoi. (I can't quite formulate a more serious sentence that says the same with better words.)
If you'd really like to be reductionist about it, the bracket in of itself could just be reduced to 'toxic yaoi/yuri, but also doomed and also betrayal'.
If there is enough calls for it however, I wouldn't mind running a post-bracket extra round with Straight JeJu, but keep in mind due to the general [waves hands ominously] Thing About Heteronormativity they may be held to a little more scrutiny. The blurb on the poll post isn't only silly but it does quite hold a little more truth to it.
Sorry! But I DO think more people should play Disco Elysium. And also kiss Kim Kitsuragi on the mouth.

I think fandom is also a place in which the majority of people who are really passionate and most active abt it are fans that happened to be queer in some way, so logically, there is going to have quite a big amount of people making these M/M and F/F ships in general. But ALL of the things in that post applies perfectly in one way or another.
For context, this is post!!
Yep, agree with you, Anon. In fandoms, the majority of the fans who are passionate are queer. That's not to say that there isn't passionate fans who aren't queer, before anyone acts up on me.
While it's on my mind, the part of that post that stuck out to me the most is this one...
Yeah I don’t really ship but I do write a fair amount of fanfic, and in most franchises working with the female characters is a chore.
You have to do so much of the work yourself, because the canon left them unfinished, with huge gaps or unexplored contradictions that you have to somehow resolve. Every female character you decide to integrate into your fanwork in some major role constitutes an undertaking in her own right as you patch together an understanding of her sufficient to model a consistent set of reactions and priorities &c.
The dudes just get handed to you. Even the ones whose canon is a mess have properly developed character cores.
That you don’t have to unearth and piece together like some sort of volunteer archeologist coming up with theories way more complex than the available artifacts truly support.
I really felt that as someone who has been writing Miruko-centric fics since March 2022. So, I'll be using BNHA as an example here.
I talked about it in another post of mine, but to summarize; writing Miruko in fics have so far been a wild ride. But a fun one because I get to add onto her character. Compared to male characters, the female characters are blank canvas and honestly, to me, that's what gets my attention more because then my imagination had more freedom.
[I would like to apologize because I had no intentions to make this ask this long (pictures are here), let alone one about BNHA, and I do tend to ramble, that is my bad. So I cut it from here.]
If you asked me now which character I find more interesting between... Miruko and Hawks (I don't hate Hawks), I'm going to say Miruko. Not because she's my favorite. Because Hawks does indeed have too much given about him and it puts me off sometimes. With Miruko, I continue to have questions and those questions turn into my thought posts or fics.
She was already a favorite, but over time I appreciate her more because writing her in fics surely helped me explore more of what I can do in my writing as well as her as what she could have been as a character if she gotten a lot more to her in canon.
It also made me realize that even though a lot of the fandom is queer, when it comes to shipping, there's not a lot of love for F/F ships. Again, comes with the fact that a lot of the cast is male and the male characters have a lot more given to them.
Here's the current count! Look, at the number of F/F fics compared to M/M and F/M.
Looking at this makes me think back to that post about how female characters are often treated to be more accessories to male characters than actual characters or something along those lines.
With F/M coming second to M/M, I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of those fics are written with more male focus perspectives and the female characters are treated as tools to push the fic along. Or those Dekubowl fics where Midoriya is shipped with every single female character. *shivers*
Tumblr media
Now, not saying M/M and F/M ships are bad, I have ships within those labels I like.
It just makes one think, you know?
I pressed on the Miruko tag and these are the top results I get. [Press to see full image!]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now watch when I reduce the number for just Miruko-centric fics.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And you wanna know something crazy? I'm just learning this bit of info about myself. I didn't realize I was doing this!
First page of those 38 fics, the majority of them you will see are my own fics. Most of the additional tags and the top two relationship tags are tags that I used. Out of those 38 fics, guess how many are mine? 19 fics... HALF OF THOSE FICS ARE MINE AND I'M JUST LEARNING THIS!!

Not a big fan of those "haha i demand only f/f and m/m ships now m/f relationships are banned ;P" funny joke posts
Makes me as a bisexual feel real appreciated/sarcasm
Seriously even the haha funny posts just make me feel like we're back again with the bi erasure and how bisexuality is only valid if you date the same gender. Like my fiance and i are both genderqueer and not cis so sometimes we just are a masc/femme couple but that doesnt make us any less queer.
I know people are trying to be haha funny, but i don't feel like you're making a good joke.

your post about mailee says everything i’ve felt about how this fandom (and many others) treat female characters, especially in the context of sapphic shipping.
i could never personally get into mailee due to the annoyance that is it’s fandom. the constant bashing of certain sapphic ships by proclaiming them as toxic (as if that isn’t the appeal) was so annoying to see in 2020 that it sadly left a sour taste in my mouth.
it also just fits into the most boring stereotypes of cute and fluffy sapphic ship!! something that tends to be the case nowadays.
but even with all that aside it’s obvious why mailee exists. they’re a side pairing for more popular ships and oh what a surprise, it’s a mlm ship leading it. i can’t deny that zukka fans mostly contribute to mailee content because they do but also how deeply annoying it is to see this pattern of wlw side pairing for mlm over and over again.
especially with atla of all shows. a show that actually has a complex female character whose unintentionally lesbian-coded but people will not bother exploring her queerness because shes “mentally ill” or “too much” or “she doesn’t need that rn” or whatever excuses people come up with.
it’s a shame to see all this play out but i’m not surprised. at the end of the day it’s always going to be mlm or f/m at this point.
oh wow i'm glad to hear i'm not the only one feeling this way!! like i mentioned in my previous post, i honestly don't really like mai, but i've tried to get myself to over the years. in 2019 i had rewatched the show and thought "hey, mai and ty lee are kinda cute together, i still don't love mai but maybe i could if i try to think more deeply about her character and see if i can find some meta and fics and such that flesh her out and examine her good points. maybe ty lee could be someone who really understands her and brings out the good in her". but mailee was very much a rarepair back then and i could only really find fluffy drabbles to read. i like fluffy drabbles and all, but they just weren't what i needed in this case. so then in 2020 the show gets put on netflix, i come back from a tumblr hiatus to see there's been a massive fandom renaissance, and now mailee is so popular it's getting to high numbers on weekly fandometrics lists! great!
so then i again look for content about them and see that a ton of it is either zuko-centric or zukka-centric with them as a side pairing at best, and zukka just isn't for me. i have a close friend who ships it so i understand the appeal, but i'm always and forever a zutara stan. i could've multishipped (i do reblog cute fanart of them on occasion) if i didn't keep seeing things from the zukka side of the fandom that really frustrate me, this being one of them. and every time i choose to dive back into the fandom and see if things have improved it's still the same, i should not have to go through 53 of the most kudos'd fics in mailee's tag before i find a fic about them especially since they have less than 1/5th the amount of fics as zukka in the first place, and it just makes me sad that this is an issue in almost every fandom. i may not like mai, but you would really think the people making shippy content involving her would like her and be willing to actually focus on her in said content!
as for the constant bashing of other more "toxic" f/f ships and unwillingness to examine another female character's complexity and potential queerness while using her mental illness as an excuse... i believe i know exactly who and what you're talking about it's an issue with certain mailee content for me as well. see, even though i've loved ATLA since i was a kid and have been on the internet just as long, i used to always dismiss the concept of tyzula because i myself never appreciated azula enough and wasn't interested in ships with her (and because frankly i really hate how azula's voice actress sexualizes the ship). but on my current rewatch of the show i've started loving azula a lot more and now like to imagine her redeemed and happy, repairing her damaged relationships with her family and friends and maybe even falling in love. i've realized that part of the appeal of tyzula for me is that while, yes, azula's entire dynamic with both mai and ty lee is toxic and messy during the show, i don't personally think it always was. i think the three of them were genuine friends until things gradually got fucked up because of how ozai's treatment of azula fucked her up. and i think that if azula were to have a redemption arc, the 3 of them could salvage what once was and have a healthy friendship again.
a lot of mailee fans do not seem to agree with this, though, because i've seen several metas and headcanons that rely on the idea that the two of them were always just afraid of evil, nasty azula and that they can bond over how much they hate her. i am not here for that, and yeah, i'm also not here for the whole "this ship would never work because [insert character] just isn't ready for a relationship, i ship them x therapy!!" thing fandoms love to use as a way to demonize certain ships. mentally ill people can be in happy, loving relationships and they can go to therapy while in said relationships. they can even use therapy to--gasp--figure out how to keep their mental health issues from getting in the way of continuing to have healthy relationships! this happens in real life and i fully believe it can happen in a fantasy cartoon for children. also, i know some people use the comics to justify the idea that mai and ty lee have just always hated and been afraid of azula, because apparently it's implied in those that they were fake friends? but fuck the comics, they're OOC and horribly written lmao.
this ended up being a much longer reply than i initially intended but yeah, all this is to say that i 100% agree with you and thank you for sharing your thoughts, anon. sapphic ships and the female characters within them deserve just as much space in fandom as m/m and m/f ships get, to be fully explored and appreciated in their own right and even to sometimes be complicated and imperfect.

We don't follow each other but I saw your post about azris and the comments you received and I just wanted to let you know that, as a queer woman myself, I don't think that there is anything wrong with you expressing your opinion on why you don't like a ship, or examining the reasons as to why you don't like said ship, in a post on your own blog. I may not agree with everything you said but I don't think that it was homophobic or that you were wrong for making a post about it. Its your personal blog, it's not something you forced other people to engage with and it wasn't a form of hate speach by any means. I just feel like people were unnecessary mean to you over it instead of discussing their issues in a more calm manner.
Also I don't think that there is anything inherently wrong with not being very interested in mlm ships. I like both but I have had gay male friends that didn't care that much for reading wlw fics, even if they obviously supported the existence of said ships. However I think that you examining why you don't like it is good if it's something you feel like you need to do.
Anyway, sorry if this is weird, I just hope you have a good day/night ❤️
Thanks for reaching out. Not weird at all. I clearly hurt some people and I do regret doing that.
Until recently, I’ve been reading and writing m/f and f/f exclusively, but I’ll read anything my favorite writers put out and have done so immediately for m/m pairings in the past. It was my hesitation here that threw me, and I realized something about a double dose of their brand of toxic masculinity spoke violence to me and I recalled an old movie that gave me a similar reaction. I just wanted others who might harbor some of those unfair assumptions to get over it and read this damn good fic. I also regret dragging my friend’s fic into this.
I should probably stop commenting because I still don’t feel like I understand what was so hurtful in my post and I’m likely to keep doing damage. I don’t want that.
Thanks for reaching out. I appreciate it a great deal.

The Ring of Brass
The Rings of Gold and Silver may be more traditionally prestigious, enough that they see the name Brass to be an insult, but I think they are perfectly representative names. Gold and Silver are singular metals, valuable, shiny, good for showing off and a few niche scientific experiments, but not really practical, in the scheme of things.
But brass. Brass is an alloy, a mixture of metals that is stronger than its components, and moreover, it’s a working metal. It’s used in all sorts of practical and even structural applications.
What better symbol is there for the six dear friends who are the only ones who actually get things done in the city?

It’s really interesting to me, going back from watching EXU Calamity and C3, to watching The Legend of Vox Machina show, and seeing how much more heteronormativity was built in as the default even just a few years ago. Not that Vox Machina is BAD in terms of queer representation, relatively speaking, just that there is SO much more of a het vibe throughout the show. M/F interactions get a lot of blushing as their only development, all serious romantic and sexual gestures are between M/F pairings, and every hint of queer flirting or gender fuckery is played humorously (NOT necessarily in a homophobic ‘butt of the joke’ way, but definitely in a way that it’s not played as a serious character development).
Compare that to the other two campaign I’ve watched, where there are male PCs with husbands, and nonbinary characters who are properly gendered and queer ship teases played for drama and it’s just kinda cool to see how quickly the cast and stories became comfortable treating queerness as normal.

Okay, but was anyone else DYING for them to show character art of Wuvvy’s third form? I want to see it SO BAD. I’ve been loving the fanart interpretations of it tho.

Is it just me, or are the Caption on Starstruck Odyssey a SIGNIFICANT improvement on past seasons? Everything that’s captioned seems correct, is spelled correctly, and is timed correctly. They’re even captioning some of the non-word sounds. Like. These are actually functional captions! idk, just wanted to point that out so that Dropout knows that them paying attention to their accessibility features is noted and appreciated. Hears hoping they go back and fix old captions soon too!

Ship Dynamic: m/f ship where the guy is 'pure of heart, dumb of ass' and the girl is a complete badass but both of them are incredibly talented in their own unique ways that complement each other perfectly. oh, and they're both clearly queer.

I really appreciate that post you made and would like to say I agree! I like having canon queer representation but I think a lot of the time poor writing (whether by straight people or not) just leaves a lot of mlm or wlw characters hooking up just because, even when they have little chemistry, and it's hard sometimes because you feel like you're expected to like the canon queer rep and you can't complain about it because we have so little to begin with. There are some really good mlm and wlw ships I like, but I don't see why we should have to settle for crumbs and bland relationships. I want more slow burns and complicated relationships that slowly build up where we get to know about the characters as individuals AND why they're attracted to each other besides being the only gay people in the room. So if I can get the investment in a relationship I want out of subtext than I'll take that. (Also kissing isn't the only way to make a relationship canon to the person who commented about Ed and Stede vs Crowley and Aziraphale).
The "you have to get on board with the canon slash ship and never mention its shortcomings or you're homophobic" was something I honestly thought had mostly died out back in like 2019. I'm disappointed but not surprised that it's still going strong.
I genuinely feel like it just comes down to cis straight writers either not being particularly invested in writing queer relationships or feeling awkward about doing so, so they just circumvent it by immediately putting them in a static relationship that they don't have to spend any additional time on. I guess multi-year slowburns are going out of style in general (which is a shame, imo, even if some of them went on way too long), but m/f relationships generally seem to be developed with like, at least some amount of care.
Thanks for your point on Good Omens also. A quick look at that person's blog yesterday told me they didn't consider any relationship what wasn't explicitly romantic to be sufficiently queer, never mind the existence of aros, so that's really all I need to know about their values.

REQUESTING RULES, WHAT I WILL/WON’T WRITE AND INFORMATION YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE REQUESTING
[EDIT: As of 27/07/2023, I’m no longer prioritising requests over what I personally feel like writing. If you’ve already sent in a request, you can send it to another blog; just make sure to let me know so I can remove it from my to-do list. If you’re planning on sending in a request, keep in mind that there’s a chance I’ll get to it if I accept it.)
I decided to re-write my rules because I’ve started writing character x character stuff (on my AO3). I thought it would be easier than just editing the existing post of my rules.
Prepare yourself for the most passive aggressive piece of writing you’ll ever find on my blog. Keep in mind that I’m an angry teenager. Feel free to ask for clarification if something didn’t come across well.
Please be polite when making a request. A please and thank you is appreciated when requests are made, or at least a tone of discernible positivity/politeness.
My requests ARE NOT written nor posted on a first come, first served basis. That might be unfair, but sometimes I lack the motivation to write certain requests at a certain moment. If I were to write requests on a first come, first served most of them would turn out looking lazy and, overall, shitty. If it’s any consolation, you get fanfiction from me for free.
Requests are always open despite the fact I have almost 40 drafts at this moment in time. However, as you could probably infer from the previous bullet point, your request might not be written/posted for a while following my acceptance of your request.
Be specific if you want something specific. If you want a headcanon, ask for a headcanon. If you want a one-shot, ask for a one-shot. Same goes for romantic/platonic. If I like the request enough (or even you, dear requester), I’ll more than likely just ask you if you fail to mention certain details that I can’t just fill in myself.
Please don’t send a request to me that you have sent to another blog, unless I turn down the request, or the blog you sent the request to before me turned down the request.
This blog is mainly a reader-insert fanfiction blog. However, I will write headcanons for ships on this blog, provided I like and/or ship said ship. My character x character fics will go on my AO3.
On that note, you can submit requests for my AO3 (i.e. CC x CC ships) through my ask box on here. I have no idea if anyone would be interested in that, but the offer’s there. I don’t usually get many ideas for CC x CC stuff myself, so I’d be more than happy to write out your ideas and requests.
[AS OF 1st JUNE 2022; UPDATED 24th AUG 2022] I only accept requests for a gender neutral!reader, non-binary!reader or trans!reader. I will, however, write a fem!reader or male!reader with a canonically gay character if the request is romantic. I will still write gay characters x gn!reader, though.
WHAT I WILL WRITE:
Feel free to ask, if something isn’t on either of these lists.
LGBTQ+ relationships
Polyamorous relationships
Queerplatonic relationships
Non-binary and trans readers
Plus size, tall, short etc. readers
POC readers (as long as you bear in mind that I’m whiter than a line of coke)
Mental illness (as long as nothing is romanticised)
Neurodivergent characters and readers
Unlabelled/‘straight’/straight characters as queer
WHAT I WON’T WRITE:
Feel free to ask, if something isn’t on either of these lists.
Smut
Characters OOC for the sake of romance
Depraved shit (pedophilia, incest etc.)
Gay/lesbian characters in M/F relationships
Anything that erases ace/aro identities
Anything that erases trans/nonbinary identities
Crossovers (unless the pieces of media exist in the same universe)
Anything without a gn!reader, nonbinary!reader or trans!reader (unless the request is romantic and the requested character is canonically gay)
Anything that is queerphobic, racist, sexist, ableist etc. (I don’t entirely mind presenting these things, as long as what’s being written itself doesn’t condemn people from these kinds of marginalised groups)
I don’t want to deter people from sending in anything by me posting this, as I know requesting, with or without a rigid set of rules, can be pretty nerve-wracking. While I’ll be at least mildly frustrated if someone sends in anything that goes against anything outlined in this post, I’m completely aware that mistakes happen. As long as you’re at least polite in your request, I’ll be as polite as possible in my response.
To the people who will adhere to everything written here when requesting, thanks.
To the people who won’t, there’s not much I can do but please be nice to me, k?

Okay so I’ve seen a lot of conflicting responses to Buddie this episode, from it being clear to people that they’re getting together, to thinking the writers have unintentionally messed things up to thinking it’s purely queerbait.
And I get the different responses, I do - tbh I’m somehow in two camps, where I simultaneously believe it’s a slowburn but I also think it’s bait. And those are two very different opinions to have and it got me thinking about why we have these different responses as fans to the possibility of a queer ship (namely two men who would presumably be bi/pan) being canon.
While people talk about how it’s just people wanting two characters to kiss or entitled fans - sure, that’s existent in every fandom, but I think there’s also a very real fear from queer fans who don’t want to get their hopes up and I d on’t love how the conversation has shifted to calling queer fans stupid for having hope, so I kind of wanted to break it down into 3 aspects that I’ve noticed:
How writers portray bi characters and why that makes fans hesitant to have hope
What queerbait actually means as a concept
How much “slowburn” has changed in procedurals
1. How writers portray bi characters
Something I’ve thought about a lot are the bi characters I’ve seen on TV - Darryl (CEG), Sara Lance (Arrow), Lucifer (Lucifer), just to name a few. These are great characters imo and I think you’d have a fun time watching but a thing to note is that all these characters were established as bi within the first season of their respective shows and they all fairly quickly fell into a clear romantic ship as well (with the exception of Sara as she spanned multiple shows). It may have taken time for them to say the word bisexual, but it was still clear these characters were queer fairly quickly on. You could maybe argue that Lucifer was a slowburn, but then (while it does not take away from him being bi/pan so do not use this as an excuse to be shitty about him) it’s a m/f ship which is still not the point of my post, to find a m/m or f/f ship that has that same treatment.
Some writers have done it - like for Valencia in CEG, or Petra in JTV - when they saw that fans read them this way, but trying to find those characters were few and far between, and when I looked at popular queerbait ships (whether or not they actually are queerbait) it’s usually ships where the characters are largely viewed as bisexual. A lot of times this also comes with pushback from both straight and to be frank, other queer fans as well. Straight fans don’t always see the signs that queer fans do, so to them a queer character who hasn’t been explicitly clear from the start comes out of nowhere. And what I’ve seen from certain queer fans are concerns that people aren’t appreciating the canon queer characters in a show - and I think there is a conversation to be had about that, but I don’t think the response should also be about then demanding less representation for people either.
If we go back to 911, people talk a lot about how it has canon queer characters, which it definitely does - Michael, Hen, Josh, Karen, and David are all canonically gay/lesbian and that’s awesome, and we absolutely should talk about fans (white fans in particular) ignoring these characters. It also does not change the fact that none of these characters are bisexual and that is the representation people are looking for. Both of these things are true - these characters are often under appreciated in canon AND people deserve bisexual representation. They don’t contradict each other and to act like one negates the other does a huge disservice.
And even if a character was made bisexual in the canon text we don’t get that slowburn. This may be true for things like Leverage, or LOK, but there’s also a real fact of censorship that affected these shows and the fact that general audiences may not understand the queer text tjat the writers intended. It doesn’t make the writing any less wonderful or the ships any less poignant or beautiful or important, and there’s ofc shows like She Ra that made this more obvious (or the.....mess that was Supernatural that made it. Half true?) but these are still real things that should be acknowledged on why people are so hesitant to call it slowburn - because it’s something most queer fans haven’t SEEN DONE, because m/f ships will get that care for slowburn when it’s done but it’s not done for m/m or f/f ships in that same capacity.
2. What queerbait is
This one’s fun because I don’t think many people understand what it is, but queerbait is very dependent on the intentions of the writers/creators/etc. - which tbh can be hard to gauge, because a genuine intention that ended up not happening or someone baiting fans or someone trying to support all ships and not be rude all have very different intentions but to a fan who only sees bits and pieces of this person on social media, it can be hard to gauge.
Honestly with how much the 4th wall gets broken because of social media now I’d personally say we’ve probably moved into a different definition of queerbait - unintentional vs intentional - because we’re at a point where a show knows what ships are popular and at what level of excitement fans are for it - but that being said, there’s still a clear spectrum of intent. And imo? I don’t think 911 has that intent of queerbait - whether it’s a slowburn or they have a different vision for buddie that I (probably) won’t agree with remains to be seen, but this show usually treats its storylines with care. Are they perfect at it? No, definitely not, I definitely think that they’ve dropped the ball a few times (especially with just how many characters they have lmao), but they also clearly do their storylines with earnest and with genuine care for these characters.
Is 911 getting them together? I want to say yes. I don’t think this was always the plan, just something that they decided along the way, but I also don’t think that changes anything about the ship. A lot of people point to Tim Minear being vague about the ship, or the actors and their interpretations, but 1. We have no idea what they’ve been told about Buddie moving forward and 2. No show runner is going to spoil their show that much. 911 may be keeping quiet because they have a different plan for buddie, sure, but also maybe because they’re still figuring out how exactly they want to do this and/or they want to make this slowburn and don’t want to give it away.
3. Slowburn in procedurals
I feel like this is something that procedurals have started shying away from, but slowburns used to be very common - Bones, Castle, their ships didn’t get together for literal years, but that’s just not something that many shows do nowadays, even for m/f ships. Even things like Deckerstar will have the characters get together after ~3 seasons and explore the relationship onwards, whereas a few years ago, y ou’d pr obably be watching a sh ow and it’d take them 7 seasons to get together. My assumption for this is that shows are afraid  of getting canceled, but there’s been a pretty big shift in getting a couple together after say, 6 seasons to now getting them together about halfway through the show. I don’t think either one is bad or good - in good writers’ hands, either can be amazing - but that shift has made it so that a lot of younger fans in particular, I think, don’t fully recognize slowburn when they see it.
911 as a show tends to run pretty fast - it kind of has to with its depth of characters they have - but when they do have slower running storylines they really do make use of that as well. Bobby’s addiction is something that’s always going to be present in his character, May’s suicide attempt was brought up again front and center after 3 seasons, even Chim’s dynamic with the Lees was brought up again and it was reinforced again that they’re his family. There are certain storylines that have to be continuous and aren’t a one and done type of thing, and that includes Buck and Eddie, especially if you want to establish them as queer to a general audience who doesn’t think about these things.
And honestly, despite my fears, I think they are laying groundwork there. We have Buck learning to be more confident in his relationships, we have Eddie ready to date and learning to follow his own heart, we have Buck and Eddie both establishing that Buck is family and will always be there for Christopher. These are pretty big steps to do for a ship and we’ll obviously have to see how the show goes forward but they’ve already insinuated Eddie and Ana are breaking up, I’m sure Taylor and Buck may last a season and be over, but we do have to see what this next season brings. Do I think they’d say this? No, definitely not.
tl;dr:
911 is a show with good viewership, but there’s always a possibility they can’t continue with their season and then their promises would feel like a lie. Or they may still be hammering out the details as this season hasn’t been written. Or they may just simply not want to spoil their show,  or they don’t want people criticizing a story before it’s finished, all of these could be reasons. The showrunners, writers, actors, ultimately they owe nothing to us as a fandom to potentially spoil their series, or do something, change it or their schedule for it, and get accused of bait.
But it also doesn’t change why fans are wary of this storyline either, and I wish people would have more nuance and compassion for fans who are worried about queerbait (whether they think it’s not queerbait and dislike people worrying about it or if they do and are calling people idiots for believing it). There’s a lot of reasons why fans are wary and don’t want to have hope, and it’s not necessarily about 911 specifically as it is a pattern of writing seen in other pieces that have fans worried. These things can all coexist and I wish we as fandom in general could acknowledge that, because pretending that they don’t and criticizing each other/people’s intentions or knowledge when they have certain expectations also doesn’t do much to help.

congrats to Wheel of Time for making so many of my top spots even though I only started posting about it 2 weeks ago. I should have known that the only people who would appreciate my tendency to write entire thesis papers on character analysis would be the fans of the million-page-long book series.

I want to say thank you to everyone in this fandom. I have never before had such a positive, welcoming experience when joining a new fandom. All of you who come onto new fan blogs just to let us know which spoiler tags you use, which blogs are and aren't safe to visit, encouraging us, and just generally being excited about getting to share the story with us. I have not once been accused of being a "fake fan" or told that I need to read the book before participating. You guys have created something special, and I couldn't be more thankful.

You know, I have to hand it to Amazon Prime original shows. They do not dance around the queer subtext. Wheel of Time really said "in episode one the only possible straight pairing is already broken up. The only other straight seeming couple is actually strictly a friendship. During the scene where the woman bathes naked, the only ass you're seeing is the dude's, and this scene is strictly to establish how very not attracted to each other these two are. Episode two, the male lead confesses his love to the other male lead. Episode three, we have a character confirm onscreen that homosexuality is normal and accepted in this world. Episode four, canon bisexual triad, and please do not think it is up for interpretation that the men are fucking each other as well as their girlfriend. They snuggle in each other's arms casually in public for an entire scene."
I have to respect that level of overt representation.

The scene where Mobius has to go in to Ravonna's office to try and talk her out of getting him and Loki into trouble after the Ren Faire mission and Loki is waiting outside awkwardly on the chair is like a thousand times funnier when you realize she used to be a high school principal. Very "teacher's pet got dragged into trouble with the class delinquent and is now trying to smooth things over using his own reputation, and she's clearly concerned and wishes his first crush wasn't on such a troublemaker" vibes.

It's a bit bold of the Loki fandom to be crying out against "incest" now when the top ship under the AO3 Loki tag has been Loki/Thor for over a decade.
Just admit you don't like M/F pairings and move on. It is totally okay to not like M/F pairings. It is totally okay to prefer your ship over another. But anyone who tries to make this a moral crusade is just going to make me laugh forever.

do you have any recs for w|w or m|m fiction? or at least a book with decent gay/bi rep? i've been starving for some non-cringe gay, but most i've found are just like not it. i started reading the like us series by krista & becca ritchie, but it read more like wanking material for the authors. like i'm more than good with sex scenes, but the books they wrote were almost like fetishizing a gay couple. anyway any recs would be much appreciated.
I have never read a series by them, so idk what it’s like. Based on that, yikes! I definitely can recommend some other books! I have a few posts already:
f/f books
More f/f books
Some m/m books
But here are some more. They aren’t romances, per se, but they do have queer characters and I enjoyed them!
The Invisible Life of Addie Larue, by VE Scwab. Addie is bi!
The Luminous Dead by Caitlin Starling is a sci-fi with f/f
The Order of the Pure Moon Reflected in Water by Zen Cho has some genderfluid characters and m/m
The Locked Tomb (Gideon the Ninth and Harrow the Ninth) by Tamsyn Muir is crass, but I didn’t mind (f/f)
The Seep by Chana Porter features a f/f couple, and one of them is also trans!
The Midnight Lie by Marie Rutkoski features a f/f ship and wow she knows how to write pining.
The Confessions of Frannie Langton by Sara Collins is f/f historical fiction.
The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White is a f/f retelling.
