why does the pjo series have to unnecessarily villainize goddesses (hera & athena) or show them as silly ladies (aphrodite & demeter) BUT posiedon and apollo are somehow shown as the coolest/most likeable gods, even though arguably, they're right after zeus on terms of corruption?

ares shown as the worst god after zeus and hera amuses me. last time i checked, he was the patron god of amazons and literally killed a man for attempting to rape his daughter but guess who cursed women for rejection? apollo. guess who raped women when they said no (aside from zeus)? posiedon.

I think I can see some sort of twisted story logic to the Eclipse rape.

Miura has said before he wanted to make a story about anger, and got Guts. He wanted to trace backwards why he was angry, and came up with the Golden Age arc, but I think he ran into a roadblock with how he wrote the characters.

Guts, as he was written at the time, couldn’t really get angry at Griffith for the sacrifice because there was still some plausible deniability that Guts would have clung on to. He would have just kept saying “no, that’s bullshit, Griffith would never do this, I know him, he would never want this” while everyone died around him.

Casca getting raped, as disgusting as it is to say, is what moved their relationship along to the murderous, rage filled mess it is now. It proved without a doubt that Griffith did want this, he approves of it, and seemingly doesn’t care anymore. It paves the way for the Guts of the Black Swordsman arc and the Guts of the rest of the series.

Still, just cause I understand Miura’s possible internal logic doesn’t mean I approve. Just felt so tasteless.

Yeah I pretty much agree with this I think. The impression I always got from the first two arcs is that early on Miura intended for Guts' rage to stem from Griffith betraying him and sacrificing him, hence the focus on ghosts taunting him about belonging to them, the parallels between being 'given' to malevolent spirits as a sacrifice and Gambino selling him to Donovan, Guts screaming about having to fight an army of the dead thanks to Femto, etc.

Then after the Golden Age Miura reevaluated and decided that that wasn't enough to make Guts vow revenge against Griffith anymore, so he threw a rape scene on top of everything.

Idk if that's actually what his thought process was, I'm sure there are many factors that went into the Eclipse rape including plain old edginess and, frankly, maybe even fanservice/potentially just adhering to the vibe of the magazine it's published in.

But yeah, that's how it comes across to me lol. Though idk if I'd say it's plausible deniability - before the rape Guts does seem to accept that Griffith sacrificed him. He's just sad and wistful about it rather than violently angry:

So yeah I feel like it's more that Guts can't fully blame Griffith for it, because he blames himself for leaving Griffith first, and because yk, he loves Griffith.

Sometimes I see people misinterpreting Arya's character and honestly, all it does is make me appreciate her that much more. George could've easily written her into as a basic archetype and instead, he gave us one of the most complex and well-developed characters in the series and I'm forever grateful for that 🫶🏾

#arya stark #asoiaf #grateful everyday that George didn't write Arya as a basic NLOG type and instead we got a fleshed out character #with a complicated relationship with her gender role and self-perception #we could've had her disdain other women and instead we have a character who insists on the importance of women in a misogynistic society #gets revenge for a victim of a gang rape + takes care of a small child in a war zone despite being a child herself and defends + admires #+ fosters positive relationships with women from all different walks of life because of how they treat her #she has non-conforming interests but that also blends well with other traditionally feminine qualities #she has a sword! but she primarily has to rely on her intelligence and other skills to help her survive #she's a social creature who fosters relationships everywhere but she has to deal with the crushing weight of isolation and loneliness #she has maturity and intelligence beyond her years but she also captures the helplessness and vulnerability of a child #she can handle being personally mistreated but gets extremely defensive when it's someone she cares about being hurt #she's just so...well-written and the way she was ruined in the show was such a waste of excellent source material #being 100% serious when I say she is one of the best-written characters in fiction and her story is severely underrated #if we don't ever get the ending that George intended for her it'll be a tragedy

The huge door to the room opened as you stared at the entrance, your fingernails digging into your knees as you locked eyes with the tall man that entered.

Afraid he will see your clothe-less body you grit you teeth and huddled closer.

A sigh left his mouth as he stared at your pathetic form, his dark black locks framing his face became uneven as he tilted his head, grimacing at the sight.

Composing himself he adjusted his glasses as he sighed again, "Karin! Did you have to strip her?" The man spoke as he started at your body a little too long for your liking.

"She needs to understand! Demons are not real, the only way she can understand is if we teach her Hanemiya-San" the woman smiled as she walked over to a small cabinet.

Grabbing another pair of gloves, this time a Pink hue, she placed them on her hands.

You looked away as you heard the sound of the rubber connecting harshly with her wrist, looking back you saw her grab a vase.

Walking towards you, she opened the vase up, pouring its dry grey like powder onto you.

You stared at her confused, 'what was this? Cement?'

After a few seconds she poured some more freezing water on you.

You shivered as you spoke, "what was that?" You cried as she gave you a look of disgust.

"What you can't even realize what water is? Gosh!" She flipped her hair, "you are far from saveable" she laughed as you spoke up again, ignoring her rude remarks.

"No, the powder!" You questioned, your voice small.

"Oh, ashes"

'What?'

She laughed again as you stared at her unmoving.

'Did this fucking woman just pour some random dead persons ashes on you?'

You started to cry as you realised she only poured a little water on you, it was most likely still in your h/c locks.

"Okay you can take her from here sir" she smiled as the man from before sighed, yet again.

"Come here" he spoke as you got up, too scared to disobey his orders.

You followed him to another room, this one only harbouring a bed.

"Lay on it" he spoke, you felt tears run down your face as you slowly got on the bed.

The next few hours were a blur to you, all you remembered was how you got here, what that blonde woman did you to, and what this man did to you.

How you had just been living with your parents at the farm only a week ago.

How your parents willingly took you to this insane, insane asylum and paid for you to be 'rescued'

How your 'doctor' had stripped you and poured cold water, ashes and more cold water on you.

How this man had raped you.

okay so just to clarify, the rape I haven't included a detailed scene for that as it maybe disturbing to some people.

You can already guess who Karin is and Hanemiya-San is.

This story will include abuse and other horrible shit like that.

But don't think this story's all going to be about that! It's also going to have some fluff!!

I'm not going to spoil anything for you! Let's just say, we love the crazy people in tokyorev, let's give them some justice.

But I am going to say that this place were y/n is held is not a hospital, they are horrible people that like to torture people.

I've been trying to verbalise what bothers me about some movies and "rape as a plot device" perfectly sums it up!

I try and avoid horror with sexual assault in it but i love the V/H/S franchise and I think sometimes the shorts really toe the line between Sexual assault being relevant to the story and Sexual assault just for the sake of having it

here's my thoughts about it. i think it can be done in a way in which it empowers the character (majority of the time in film it's a female character but i'm not saying it can't be a male character). in this situation i'm going to be using a female for example. the rape of a female character is usually followed by a male character taking revenge for her, which is just to further the male's characterization, which is highly disrespectful to the female character. usually this is done by male directors who dismiss their female characters (USUALLY).

now if it's like the movie revenge and (constroversially; although i hate the filming of the rape scene) i spit on your grave, where the female is able to take revenge on her male (or female rapists) that is to further the female's characterization (which also needs to be done in a respectful manner and not just used as a filmsy plot device). the hills have eyes, uses rapes so filmsy (but wes craven did create last house on the left, so it's not farfetched that he would do that). essentially, i'm not saying it's impossible to create a horror rape revenge, but it's never truly done in a manner in which the woman wins. but i do hate rape as plot device in this circumstance.
