Here's something a little bit different - Team RWBY, all drawn on different coloured paper!

I've been wanting to draw these guys with their vol7 onwards designs for ages, and I'm really pleased with how they turned out, from the weapons to the faces to the colours. It's been a good four years since I drew them all last, and it's really neat seeing how much my art has improved since then. The coloured paper also turned out to be really nice to draw on. I've had a lot of success drawing on brown paper, so I thought it would be fun to experiment with some other colours, and I'll definitely be doing it again.

Shoutout to @jookpubstock for the pose references that I used - they do brilliant work, and you should absolutely check them out.

Jaune hate is weird to me

The more I look at Jaune hate the less sense it makes to me. Like I get this show is called RWBY but people act like he’s interfered with anyone’s character arc. Everyone has always progressed and completed development except Ruby and that’s on the writers not choosing to focus on her. They made time for Ren and Nora twice.

Vol7 had no Jaune plot and Vol8 didn’t either for real until the last episode. Hell, V6 gave him two scenes that worked into forwarding the plot.

Even if you look at it in the context of “it’s called RWBY” people act like this guy wasn’t introduced in the same episode the rest of the team was and isn’t Ruby’s first friend/ fellow leader. I’m sorry but for better or for worse, this show has always made him a main character alongside the rest. It’s so weird for people to wonder why he’s around when he’s consistently been the person who helps and cares about Ruby the most.

The way he’s been implemented has only gotten better over time as well. It’s not like we get a Jaundice every volume; which in hindsight, those two episodes make more sense knowing we were gonna lose Pyrrha in V3. So yeah…it feels a little weird to hate the character who tries to mind his business and just do what he’s supposed to. Also everyone who wants him dead acts like Ruby, Ren, and Nora wouldn’t be hung up on that forever. Pyrrha got talked about heavily for three seasons after death; I can’t imagine how long they would talk about him. Weiss got stabbed for an episode and all art, edits, and fanfics shifted dramatically. Nobody wants that to happen times a thousand. Just let him exist.😅

Thoughts on the PEAK Ironwood vs Watts fight from vol7?

Creative use of environment my beloved: Watts hacks. the whole. the whole arena. what a godtier move. The way he uses the changing gravity, the geysers, the magma, his own hardlight hexagons, even the different levels of height. The way JAMES uses it, where at one point you see him pick a different route just so he can get the drop on Watts. You do not see shit like this in other rwby fights, you really don't.

Interesting understanding of strengths and weaknesses on both sides: James has one goal in the fight and that is 'get in close'. He knows the moment he's in there he's going to absolutely body Watts, and Watts knows it too. They're both counting Watts's bullets (hilarious), and Watts is doing everything he can to prey on breaking down James's aura and stay away before James gets him. They both know exactly what the other can and can't do, and it's just a really interesting thing. And then when both auras are off and they close ranks? How Watts hides a ploy behind ploys and James shows just how tough his willpower is? great characterisation

Great song: I don't care what anyone else says: Caleb Hyles killed this, good on him, you go dude, take the crown, Hero is rad

Good voice acting: I mean these two VAs are two of the best in rwby. Jason Rose brings his everything to Ironwood (even if the lines are stupid), and Christopher Sabat is a goddamn professional, that's All Might, Major Armstrong, and Azure Lion right there

Emotional and evocative: 'you always were a pain in the ass' 'you never appreciated my genius' I love the messy break up so much these two had History sizzling right off the bone and it was so much more than we usually get in rwby writing, where they refuse to let anyone else interact with their villains unless its straight up torture porn (cough). what a shame

I really think Ruby and Weiss supposed to have big change as partner in volume 9

In Atlas era we rarely seen Ruby and Weiss get any interaction or conversation as equal parter they were more act like...leader and her teammate

In volume 8 Ruby get cheer by Blake and confort by Yang. With Blake as a leader, with Yang as a Sister. And No, there was no such thing "as a Partner" conversation...it was left out.

First i thought crwby only care about romance between partners so thats why they wouldn't show any RW moments but more i think about it...it wasn't like that.

When Team RWBY+Qrow,Maria, Oscar was in farm...they ware still like partners. They share their fear, anger...they comfort each other. but it changed.

Ruby has burden as a leader. Since vol6, especially since argus. And everyone expects her to be a leader. To Weiss...it was supposed to be both, leader and partner.

WBY defend on Ruby as leader before to...but it start to get heavy and Ruby didn't show any problems with it. She just let everyone depend on her.

because of that Ruby and Weiss relationship become more unbalanced. they were supposed to be partners too. but Ruby doesn't show any her persnal feeling to Weiss and Weiss expect Ruby to be her leader and rather forgot about being partner...

I know they support each other and have some found family moments time to time but i'm talking about intimacy moment between partners. Like in vol7 how Blake tell Yang she doesn't want to hunt Robyn only because she try to help Mentle and how she wish they don't have to kill anyone along way(anymore then Adam). Romance or Not. Ruby and Weiss need does moments, especially Ruby.

volume 9 trailer it showed us Ruby will question about herself and...for that I really think there should be profer moments for Ruby and Weiss. She need this. She need Weiss. She need partners who she can share their worry, burden...anything.

I really look forward for that happen.

the music in rwby

i feel like i could talk about rwby's ost for HOURS. not even like, how the lyrics represent a character and/or their situation (thats a whole other post) but how everyone composing them NEVER MISSES!! every song is just absolute banger after banger ranging from full on songs with vocals by casey lee williams to just scores that are used on the episodes of every volume (that you can just listen to!! and i think that rules.) every song in every volume hits the soft spot in my brain that makes me smile (bmblb from vol4), makes me cry (forever fall from vol6) and gets super fuckin hyped n pumped up (die from vol2, especially the part with casey just full on screaming the lyrics) and to be honest theres a lot of songs in the albums that fit those 3 criterias but those are the ones i could remember as of late i also love how much the casey has evolved as a singer (i've heard that she's been singing for RvB since she was like,6) from vol1 where she was, i think, 12 and her voice was plenty AWESOME to listen to already, then came vol8 and shit went DOWN. the opening kicking off with "we said GOOODBYYEEE" goes so goddamn hard its unreal. every opening in this series goes incredibly CRAZY and its not even funny like every second of the songs in the series are so damn well composed with the catchiest beats and best lyrics ever (specifically lamar hall, he raps so damn fast in big metal shoe, vol6) by the way, jeff HOWLING in some songs he is wonderful, like caffeine (vol2) or the vol3 opening. hell, songs where its just him doing the vocals are incredible too even if there arent that many, like bad luck charm in vol4 orr not fall in love with you in vol3! ill be honest, i dunno who composed what and who did this n that but im ASSUMING most of the guitar parts were just jeff, like the swell and heavy guitar in touch the sky, vol7, that ones gives me summer (not the character) vibes and it slaps. i love the solos sprinkled around the songs as well and im glad to see them still present and incredible as always in the vol9. (RED LIKE ROSES PART 3!! absolute PEAK. i listened to it for like 3 seconds on borrowed earbuds and it felt like heaven on my ears) the whole of volume 9 was incredible too, checkmate is incredible with the flow of the lyrics and the doots and the BASS, oh my god the bass. its really cool knowing martin de lima, from ok goodnight (the band casey sings in!! check them out, i need to listen to more of their songs aswell, awake sounds HEAVY and im all for it) composed some of the scores for vol9 and i hope there'll be more of ok goodnight in future volumes (greenlight vol10) didnt expect to have written so damn much but thats ok. what im saying is : music goes hard, goes cool and makes me happy. hope it makes you happy too :)

So. Its still better that “im my mom now” or “im now have a cool gun and new talent” but...we just reset Ruby. We just reset her. She now again Ruby Rose who just herself with a little bit Summer stuff. This is not a “i get it i need to work thought my mistakes” or or something like this. It just “what if im just going to choose me?” and “i like to think we did at least a little good...right?”. I not sure if we going to get vol10 Ruby will talk to the Yang that “hey...i saw our mother and she just...run away with Raven on the mission”. Ruby got depress because she tired of doing “not enough” and people not seeing that she in “not good shape”, run away, got torture, drink a tea because she was thinking she will stop exist, WE FIND OUT THAT SUDDENLY she was obsessed about her to be just like her mom, finding out that her mother lied (kinda info that we already knew kinda, outside of the fact that she run away WIHT Raven \me trying to do poly jokes\) but remember that Summer told her and Yang that “i love you just the way you are” and now she Ruby again. The same Ruby from...idk volume 5-6.

Jaune is still alive and get back his younger body with just a bit white hair lines. He remember probably everything, but im not sure if we going to get vol10 SOMEHOW we will see some side effects from all this. COWARDS, HONESTLY. I have a hard opinion about this guy, but they really coward with not keeping his Ever After Timeskip look.

Neo is commit “going into a tree” because “she need to find herself”. Cool. She need just “fix herself” with “the tree”. Nice. Love in it. (no)

AND WE JUST GOT A HALF EPISODE WITH LORE ABOUT BROTHERS. IN THE FINAL EPISODE. LISTEN. I MAYBE dont talk about Summer too much but you know what? I want to take more flashbacks about her and Raven that about all this lore thing. Literally final episode. I was SCREAMING because WHY. WHY THIS. I FINE with another scene with Blacksmith and talking about how good Little is and how baaaad Cat is and all that jazz, but...when you have possibility that you will not be able to continue your story...this is not the time for LORE HOMEWORK. YOU LITERALLY HAVE A CHANCE TO NOT BE ABLE TO END YOUR STORY. RWBY CAN BE ANOTHER SHOW WITH NO PROPER ENDING. NO “we want 20 volumes” NOT EVEN ONE MORE SEASON, THIS CAN BE YOUR ONLY SEASON. THIS IS NO THE TIME FOR LORE ABOUT THE GODS. “KILL YOUR DARLING” IN WRITING WHEN YOU HAVE A HARDCORE SITUATIONS LIKE THIS.

Also from what i can tell...did we skip this whole sityation, that we had in ending at the volume 8? Or there was a timeskip and people are already safe (WOW) or people still in the desert and they just...in Vacuo now?

Conclusion for rn, because i kinda not in the mood and i dont want to just scream and be angry at every parts - Love this flashback with Summer and Raven (with a little bit Taiyang, miss this man.). Love Curious Cat full form, looks really cool and wish we see more this form (ALSO A WHOLE NEW MODEL FOR A ONE EPISODE FOR A COUPLE MINUTE-). Hate...what ever going on with the tree, i do not like this whole “suicide is a progress and a good thing” (this whole decision to make suicide metaphor was a mistake in ALL levels), like new Ruby song. Fight was...nice i guess? Sad for Neo because no matter what i think about her as a character and about her story, she do not deserve ending like this with this whole “she will find her way”. Sound like “suicide will fix her mistakes”. Little also have a new model for a one episode. HATE LOREDUMPING AT THE FUCKING FINAL EPISODE THAT CAN BE A FINAL EPISODE FOR A WHOLE SHOW WHAT ARE YOU DOING TEAM.The only thing that was important for progress in this volume - was Yang-Blake getting together finally, getting a little bit Summer story and Jaune experience in Ever After, even if he still have his vol7-8 look. And also get rid of Neo?

Do what ever with this information. I just going finish my work and going to sleep. Maybe will write something more about this episode after i will rewatch 20 times again as always, but not today.
