Monster Hunt: Roilwreak, Temperamental Elemental

WHATS SHAKING YOU WIZARD BITCHES, GUESS WHO BROKE CONTAINMENT AGAIN?? THAT'S RIGHT, ITS MEEE!!!

Beginning life as an apprentice's over ambitious and much procrastinated thesis project, this arcane entity has entered into a troubled adolescence marked by making itself a calamitous nuisance. Being a Weird ( an elemental composed of two contradictory natures) Roilwreak is possessed by a destructive restlessness that only seems to find an outlet in causing problems for others, whether it be in property damage, petty arson, or the disarray of arcane workings for the sheer shit-disturbing fun of it.

Adventure Hooks

Roilwreak spends most of its time in a warded enclosure on the grounds of the academy in which it was summoned, tended to by apprentices and occasional studied for its unique ability to interfere with different kinds of magical energy. There's a rumour that upperclassmen (and even faculty) sometimes sneak in after hours to bargain with the elemental in order to fuel their more elaborate rituals.. which might be how the Weird managed to escape this time. Pheraps the homebrew potion dregs and scraps of firecrackers from the nearby market can point at a suspect.

The elemental has given the academy the slip and disapeared into the city's pipeworks, resulting in minor flooding as pipes crack under unexpected pressure and a number of injuries as a pubic fountain boiled off into scalding mist. The local garison have put a bounty out for whoever can slay the elemental, but the academy just want it returned safely. It IS a sapient creature after all, and it can't help that chaos is in it's nature.

A villainous mage has heard of the Weird's powers and wants to make use of them, binding Roilwreak into a weapon or draining off its energy for some awful ritual. Having organized an infiltration (or perhaps the current breakout) it's a race to see who can catch the hyper-charged herptile first.

Lets be honest, we know and understand

that sociopaths are mostly wealthy and

politicians greed is a big factor in their actions

to rob, cheat and steal for they are the kings

and queens of destruction, physical and mental

and lets not forget murderous desires for what

we see now is the curtain opening and the truth

is known, no one is safe as bombs explode, homes,

buildings, churches, hospitals all destroyed by the

greed of those addicted to the pleasure of murder

and as two millions human beings are being killed,

children included, as if these human beings are

worthless without well founded ideas to stop this

virus of hate, when in fact the ones in power are

without morals, they are demanding more violence,

more murders, more being tortured and then killed,

human nature is quickly moving close to their evil

animalistic hate, for this massive murder of innocent

men, women and children that had nothing to do

but be killed without mercy brought on them with

I think a lot about Leo’s tendency to push his way into the spotlight despite clearly being a natural in the shadows. Hell, you could argue that his worst moments are when he’s forcing himself onstage, and his best are when he does things no one notices until it’s already been done.

yeah... i caved and gave her a tail... I'm Not Sorry! it's cute! i wanted to stick with her sorta flower motif - it's stronger in her princess look, since I imagine that when she was part of the royals she was very blatantly flower power based. it was her Thing!

but a Julie free of her noble shackles... she deserves her big sword. like yeah, she has flower magic, but who needs it when she has a Giant Blade??? on the royalty vein, and if we're classifying "rainbow monster" as a species, i feel like horn size/curve would be a status symbol of some kind. maybe Julie would have kept her horns filed short. but if she ran away from that life... longer horns! i like to imagine that they'll keep growing until she has a pair of Extra Weapons attached to her head! curved forward like mammoth tusks maybe!

i imagine that like Frank, she goes with minimal armor - range of movement over protection, yk? some scale mail over her front, a thick leather flower over her chest w/ scalloped leather pauldrons, wrist armor and metal knuckles! i'd think that the faux-suspenders include a back sheath for her sword... i wish i'd thought of that Before i finished the little ref! i don't feel like going back and editing!

i imagine that she was forced to cut her hair when it got caught in something (a gelatinous cube, mayhaps). it didn't look good! don't let anime and Mulan fool you! cutting your own hair with a blade will not look nice! but someone - Eddie, probably, he's good with scissors i'd assume - cleaned it up for her. and hey, it didn't look bad! plus, Julie probably liked being able to just tuck up her long strands into her hat when she's feeling a bit more like a Julius than a Julie!

it's been a fun challenge transforming their canon outfits into a similar variation with fantasy flavoring and twists! i want them to suit the setting but still maintain Themselves! Julie's was tough i gotta admit. i was messing around with the princess look and the fighter look side-by-side. it worked better when i sat back and thought "fighter Julie is Julie unrestrained. that version would be more aligned with her canon look"

i wanted her princess form to look Restrained! she has to be a ~delicate flower~, a noble woman, pristine and poised and very much a princess. soft colors, poofy clothing, bright white gloves that are not to be sullied. carefully bundled up hair! jewelry! that dress must be Heavy and hard to move in! her tail must be so cramped under there!

but Julie Unleashed? violent pinks! rose gold accents! short skirt so that she can sprint and Kick! fun boots that she can be active in and delight in watching them get dirty! her hair is free to whip in the wind and get caught in things! fun straps and Deadly Accessories! a sword that she stole from the royal armory on her way out the window! she has forearm wraps both to match Frank and to support her wrists!

Rival: Zamaados Amida, Curator of the Burning Archives

Sometimes even the greatest of magi must be reminded of a lesson that we all learn as children, that there are things not meant for us, despite the lure of their beauty and power. It is my role to instruct them of this lesson, as many times as they might require.

Setup: As folk who routinely overrule the laws of reality, most magic users are at some level used to getting their way. As such it takes a special sort of person to not only tell them “no”, but rip the forbidden tome/cursed artifact/world changing theorem from their hands and put it out of reach on a high shelf until they/society at large have proved they’ve earned it. Enter Curator Amida, dutiful and ardent servant to the goddess of love, death, and  witchcraft, who grew up seeing the worst abuses that unchecked magic could wreak and now controls an organization dedicated to ensuring its proper use.

While too easy to write off as the “magical no fun police”, Amida and other acolytes of the Burning Archive do invaluable work safeguarding dangerous knowledge and training stray magical talents in how best to use their gifts. However, while attempting to provide stability to an all too chaotic realm, the archive and its curator may act as roadblocks to a party attempting to steer that chaos in the right direction.

Hooks

On the trail of a rogue warmage with a large bodycount and even larger bounty, the party find their steps dogged by a band of warriors in crimson armour who are apparently after the same target. Having to race against this group of acolytes both overland and for clues to their quarry’s location, the party may end up having to wrest the warmage from their clutches, or have to run with him overland in order to avoid their pursuers from doing the same.

 In need of some vital information kept in the archive’s possession and stonewalled at the front desk the party must heist their way in and pluck the required volume from its resting place. While infiltrating a temple full of mage-librarians is difficult enough, the real hurdle is the anti-theft method that gives the archives its name: Every volume stored in the archive’s deeper shelves is enchanted to burn continuously, never harming the document but making it hell to study the information without scorching your hand. Supposedly the blessing of Wee-Jas can circumvent this ward, but the party are unlikely to be able to obtain that given they’re in the process of stealing form her.

Though cautious and patronizing in equal amounts, a party that conducts themselves in a professional manner may be able to earn Zamaados’s trust, assisting rather than competing with Burning Archives agents and handing over dangerous artifacts no matter the lure of their power. Choosing this harder road will grant the party an ally and potential mentor who’s well versed in the secrets of the unseen world, one who can provide great insight and magic of debatable forbiddenness when situations get dire.
