Canonically trans pirate: Alister St. Marina
So, when we first started the Sea of Thieves comics, the game was still in alpha testing. I got the incredibly cool privilege of rolling up on the Golden Shores before other people even had access, because we were basically launching simultaneously. One of the really cool things about the set up was that we got to create our own crew from scratch and tell a story on the sea when it only had a few legends in it, so we were given free reign. I knew we had a handful of issues to tell the story and I hoped we'd get to come back to them, but nothing was certain.
Some of the characters, namely DeMarco and Lesedi Singh became regular characters in the game, which was something I had never even realized was a possibility. Then, of course, DeMarco's death as a big story in the game. It was the first big mystery. And Lesedi was part of it. We even got to hear Lesedi's voice (I was quietly VERY excited they actually cast a South Asian woman in the part).
That led to a new opportunity! Years after their initial adventures, we got to make a new mini-series called "Sea Dog's Search" which centers Lesedi on her quest to find her brother's lost soul. We wanted to change things up and show that it had been years of adventuring on the Sea of Thieves, so even though we hadn't written years of comics, we wanted to show that their lives had kept on going. Since Lesedi was our focus in the series, updating her look was important to me. In the first comic, she started out looking like this:
Tumblr media
Then, in the game, she and her brother founded The Sea Dogs and got sharp matching outfits:
Tumblr media
Obviously, she stay's looking fly, but it's worth noting that this was a matching outfit with her brother and much more his style than hers (DeMarco loves clothes and dressing sexy, Lesedi has always been a little more no nonsense). So now that she's out from under the shadow of both her brother and legendary father, we've done some updating to her look. First, she had to get rid of the old one and do a bit of fighting of her own:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Over the years, the variety of what you can wear in SoT has improved so we wanted to give Lesedi something that felt like it had a little bit of who she is and a little bit of her home.
Tumblr media
But there was somebody else who hadn't really been in the game whose evolution was perhaps more important to me.
When we had done the first miniseries, I talked with the crew about the possibility of having a trans character in the books. They were excited, but one thing they really wanted in the comics was to make sure that things that characters did in the book were more or less achievable in the game and, at the time, there was no way in the build to change your character's look or gender once you started.
But now, there is! There is a potion that allows you to change the look of your character including their gender. Rare and co was very supporting of us then following through with an idea we had during the first fun that was now possible. I had originally written the character of Alessia St. Marina as a person who was not comfortable in her own skin and had used costumes and espionage as a way to cope with that. She was especially fond of going undercover pretending to be male.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
At the end of the mini-series, Alessia ended up getting together with her partner in crime, but she was never able to come out as trans. But it has been a few years both in our world and in the game one, so allow be to introduce you to Alister St. Marina.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's a smooth talkin swashbuckler who just happens to be married to one of the most dangerous cutthroat women in the world, whom our crew has to rescue from her most recent scrape.
Tumblr media
So, thank you very much to Rare, Titan, and everybody else involved for letting us tell this wonderful story and bring the first canonical trans masc pirate character into the Sea of Thieves.
See you out there, you salty sea dogs!

Rewriting&Redesigning Dragons: the Nine Realms — Part 4/4
D’Angelo Baker
Tumblr media
There’s not much to say about the choices I made with his redesign other than how I wanted him to look like more than just a basic army brat. I did take reference from Snotlout in terms of his body’s physique.
Plowhorn
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I actually really liked the original design of the Gembreakers. I’m just thinking that, realistically, it just doesn’t make much sense for them to have giant crystal looking spikes/horns unless their skeletons looked like that as well. Which it wouldn’t because we see dragon bones all the time and they look like the bones of any other creature on Earth, not like crystals. So I made the horn look like actual bone and made the rest of the design lean more towards a beetle.
I also wanted to make it’s wings more insect-like but I didn’t want to just straight up give her insect wings since all dragon wings look like bat wings in the httyd world, no exceptions. So instead I made it so that Gembreakers have multiple small wings, so they flap very fast and give off the impression of insect wings.
Alex Gonzalez
Tumblr media
I just feel like this outfit gives off a more gamer/hacker vibe as well as it being cute. The detailing on her jeans and crop top is her own stitching. I did make her chunky, because realistically, she’s been inside all day everyday for years and with how often her moms seem to make her cookies, I would expect her to have some extra weight.
I should point out that I do understand that curly hair can be hard to model for animation this low budget but I think she just looks really good with curly bangs and I think I know a cheat code. Just copy and paste Gratuity Tucci’s bangs from Home. It’s a Dreamworks movie, so they have access to her model. I even straight up traced her bangs in this drawing just to prove my point.
Feathers / Pluma
Tumblr media
I figured her design could be one where she looks scary but is actually very innocent. And keeping the Quetzalcoatl design aspect in mind, my brain immediately thought of the Slitherwing. Like maybe Feathers/Pluma could be a breed of dragon that’s a cousin to the Slitherwing, similer to Night Furies and Woolly Howls. Now I know these species’ haven’t been confirmed to be cousins but still.
Main differences between the Slitherwing and Featherhide here is that Pluma has feathers in place of poison and can mimic/sound-blast in place of venom-spit.
Also having a scarier design would help make Alex’s instant fear more understandable at first glance, since canon Feathers is just cute. And because my redesign now looks so much like a Slitherwing, on first viewing the audience would be worried about the poison Slitherwings have, until it’s revealed to have feathers instead of poison. A little bit of a subversion.
Eugene / August
Tumblr media
I really wanted to give him this feel that he was like an Instagram or Tiktok fashion designer. That could even be a part of his character, maybe he and Jun bond over art and he helps her design the dragon armor later on.
Now I know I said that having loose clothing will look really bad in cheap 3D animation but listen; his clothes are not that loose and I made sure to frame his loose sleeves so they’d at least look okay within this show. And you can model wrinkles into the clothes even if they don’t move. Therefore giving the illusion of realistic cloth even though you’re not actually animating it like that. I also made it so that his pants would give some of that big boot silhouette without being bellbottoms and I didn’t make his shoes big as well —like I did with Olivia— as to kind of throw off the audience who'd notice, on whether or not he’d join dragon club.
You may notice that there are some similarities between his and Jun’s designs. They both wear thin sweaters (under August’s silk shirt), have circle necklaces and circle belt buckles. But with the clips of their buckles are on opposite sides from each other, as to kinda showcase the fact that they’re biological siblings but have animosities.
(Also note; I know the way his silk shirt shines is not how it would look in the final animation. That’s just the one creative liberty I took to make sure you would be able to tell it’s shiny in this art.)
Monstrous Nightmare
In regards to August's dragon, I think he'd name it Scorch. Original, I know but you know what? These names for the dragons on on the same level of Toothless being named Toothless simply because his teeth can retract.
I'd also color Scorch to be similar to the titan wing from rtte. Not exactly but very similar.
Tumblr media
Other adults
I was originally going to redesign them as well since their designs wouldn’t have that many changes aside from better body proportions and maybe different hair. Along with Johann having modern clothes and Dr. Sledkin having a black or silver Rakke uniform. But it’s taken me two weeks just to make the pics that I finished and I have no more energy to make more. Maybe later on in life I’ll find the energy to do so and I’ll reblog this with those designs but for now I’m done.

for the sake of writing fanfic, i am going to use my brain powers to figure out whether or not susie currently has a home.
lets start with some observable characteristics of susie.
susie has a habit of eating things which aren't food. pinecones, burnt crumbs from the toaster, chalk, moss. she's also constantly hungry, and even drinks milk out of a bowl in an alleyway. clearly she doesn't have a stable supply of food.
her clothes are full of holes, and apparently other people have said they're "disgusting" if susie's act dialogue with the Rudinn Rangers is to be trusted. most people aren't huge bullies and won't pick on you for your fashion sense alone, so i imagine they're also dirty.
susie says that since she napped in a bush, its basically her home now. others (maybe determinators? i dont quite remember, sorry) have theorized that this means she moves home incredibly frequently, which seems reasonable. susie also says she doesn't want to get too close to... alphys i think? because she's worried she might be "banned from outside of school."
there's also susie not being used to "having her own room" and her not calling her parents and stuff like that.
she HAS played dragon blazers, but dragon blazers seems to be a handheld game, so she wouldnt need a stable home to own a copy. ill talk about susie and dragon blazers in another post though
all this to me is spelling out a couple possibilities
A. Susie is homeless. She has no family and lives on the streets, sleeping in alleys, bushes, wherever she can.
B. Susie is in some kind of foster care system and moves home incredibly frequently, thus meaning she doesn't have any money, or a room of her own.
C. Susie has an unstable home, where she doesn't have a room, or a steady access to food, and whuch she doesn't like returning to if it can be avoided.
god, all of these seem equally likely?
hmm, let me try analyzing the THEMES.
Susie is someone almost completely rejected from society, sure, but as I've said before, Susie is someone specifically denied CHOICE by society. Susie doesn't get to choose who she is, what she does, or where she goes. And because of this, Susie fights constantly in every way she can to hold on to her few freedoms. The world chews her up and spits her out and offers her scraps to make up for it, and she rejects those scraps. She refuses to forfeit her rights.
For this reason, I propose fusing these three possibilities into one! Susie is taken from an unfit family by the foster care system, moves frequently, and in an act of defiance, runs away and lives on the streets. She was born into a shitty place, then in an attempt to "help her" she was uprooted frequently, denied a choice in her life, given only the bare minimum and expected to just live with it. So she runs away. Better to die free than live as a slave.
While I don't know if this is what happened in canon, it does seem thematically fitting, so this is what I will go with in fanfic, and assume is the case when making judgements about Susie as a character, though without actually saying "this is what happened for sure."

Who do you think is the most intelligent?
Out of the girls I think it’s Nesta and Gwyn(Gwyn in the library and in the second book Nestas Calculations) but out of the boys I am kinda torn between Eris and Rhys.
Like all of them are smart people but you know the ones who have broader knowledge, who are more knowledgeable hungry and have a thirst.
Lucien and Emerie would be runners 🏃
-🩰
Oh my gosh, please anyone else chime in on this because I’d be really interested to hear some other answers!!
Warnings: a lot of blabbering on my part 🫢, the majority of this is me assuming things that might not be canon, so 🤷
First of all I think it’s nice to just preface that I believe all of them are smart in their own way: Elain probably has a lot of knowledge about gardening and baking, Cass is probably excellent with emotional intelligence and good at gauging people’s limits for training and such, so they all have their own strengths.
However, if we’re going at it in terms of overall knowledge, encompassing a wide variety of topics as opposed to how well familiarised they are with specifics, I think I agree with you about Rhys and Eris.
Rhys is the one who explicitly mentions he had a thorough education as a child, and it’s also mentioned he has what sounded like a mechanical reconstruction of their solar system in his study—which he built himself??—so immediately that’s something that stands out to me. Not to mention he likely had to learn a heck-ton of politics and history, probably some kind of magic theory, different spells, fighting techniques, maybe languages?, economics, on top of general etiquette, and how to handle social interactions—and master them.
Since Eris likely grew up in a similar situation to Rhys, he probably has a similar arsenal of knowledge over various topics? I think Eris probably wasn’t given as much freedom as Rhys was growing up, so I’m torn between whether that would have helped or hindered his discoveries? Whether it would have quashed his curiosity or only encouraged it as he grew up? He seems more than capable of thinking for himself, so I’m tempted to say that means he went in search of his own answers?
Probably overall I’d be swayed to saying Rhys has more overall knowledge, but that’s influenced mainly by Rhys having been able to see the world through so many different lenses, and that’s beyond just heir to the court and High Lord. He’d grown up in Illyria so would have that slightly rougher experience of growing up, and getting to compare that to the wealth that would wait for him on his father’s side, then he’s played the role of benevolent ruler to Velaris; cruel dictator to the Hewn City; warrior to the Illyrians, and slave to Amarantha.
Obviously we know a lot more about Rhys than we do about Eris which probably heavily impacts this, since we don’t have a full picture, but from the things we have seen I’m inclined to say they have an equal amount of knowledge over academic subjects but Rhys has a wider variety of personal experiences.
For the ladies 💁‍♀️—Amren’s been alive for the longest, but then she also doesn’t remember a chunk of her life before the prison? She seems to be more familiar with old spells and history, as well as having personally lived through that history so she probably has a lot of general knowledge?
Nesta I think has the potential to know a lot since she reads frequently, probably noses at Cass’ war books too, has access to the library and Gwyn, so can get some different recommendations? She also grew up probably with a good education—again with her calculations for how many ships would be needed—so she seems to have a grasp on mathematics and maybe also some wider topics like agriculture to understand how, if the queens were going to ship the humans off the landmass, how much food and clothing would be needed not only to sustain everyone but to set them up to stand on their own?
With Gwyn, while she’s been in the library for a while (I think it’s about two years?), I don’t think she has the knowledge that Nesta does? Of course with her working for Meryll (idk how to spell it) she has specific knowledge on what’s probably a very complex topic that requires understanding in other fields too to properly grasp what’s going on, but I don’t think her general knowledge encompasses as much as Nesta’s does.
Mor is also probably a good contender but we know so little about her character I don’t feel like I can make a conclusion about how much information she has ☹️

AU Thursday: Valicer In The Dark Vs Baldur's Gate III
Okay, so, yesterday I happened to mention that I'd gotten into Baldur's Gate III -- and that a certain Crime Trio of mine (based on an entirely different RPG, I might add), had decided to lay claim to it as a potential AU of their OWN AU. No, I don't know why I'm like this either. *sigh* Anyway, there's not really that much to it at this point in time -- while I have spoiled myself on the story (and seen a bunch of cutscenes thanks to my friend @gaydragonwizards), I haven't actually played that much of the game itself and thus don't know exactly how the trio would react to EVERY quest and NPC in the game. I do know some basics, though:
-->The AU starts with the Nautiloid happening to pop into the Valicer In The Dark universe by mistake while navigating -- the mind flayers decide they may as well abduct some people while they're here, and unfortunately Victor, Alice, and Smiler, walking the streets of Six Towers, are in range of the tentacles and taken aboard to be infected
-->Smiler wakes up in the canonical pod and finds their way to Us, saving them and immediately bonding with the little intellect devourer ("I'm a they/them too!"); Alice wakes up in a different pod nearby and is the first to meet Lae'zel, and helps her fight the imps; and Victor wakes up in the same room as Shadowheart, and is working on freeing her when the others arrive -- they get her out, get to the helm, and manage to fight their way to the transponder and connect the nerves
-->If you're wondering about potential language barriers, one of the good things about the tadpoles randomly connecting your mind to other people's is that it allows you to pick up Common super fast -- I basically see them getting a bit of an "information dump" on a few key things about the reality they're currently in during the initial connections
-->Also, in the process of freeing Shadowheart, the group find that woman in the other room and mess with her console, accidentally causing her to change -- a creepy moment made even creepier by Victor's Ghost Mind ability letting him briefly see the woman's soul escape...and then burn up as she transforms into a mind flayer. We will come back to this later
-->After the crash landing, Victor, Alice, and Smiler are very confused when they wake up to see a blue sky...and then, after waking up Shadowheart and being told, essentially, "it's blue because it's sunny?" are utterly GOBSMACKED to find themselves in a world with an ACTUAL SUN. Though shock and delight quickly turn to "oh wow, this is actually a lot hotter than we're used to, we need to find lighter clothes fast" XD
-->From there, they pick up the rest of the companions and work their way through the main plot, hoping to both find a way to get the damn tadpoles out of their heads and get home (because as nice as a world with a sun is, it's not Duskwall, and Smiler in particular would like to see their parents again plz)
-->Naturally, being pretty good-hearted people, they do the nice versions of the quests and help people out as much as possible -- though, also being a group of Shadows who nick things and sabotage schemes for their living, I can see them offering tips to the gang of tiefling children thieves and scam artists to help them in their chosen path. XD Also, Alice probably has to be talked out of killing Kagha right then and there when she threatens Arabella, and I'm not sure the snake survives THAT little encounter. Alice has a thing about people threatening children, as you might expect!
-->I foresee a lot of confusion on both sides about how different Duskwall and the Shattered Isles are from Faerun -- not just the sun thing, but also Victor having access to an entirely different form of magic (Gale in particular is like "wtf is this??? This is not Weave???"); the group not knowing what horses or cows are (both animals are extinct in their world) and having to be introduced to them -- while, on the flip side, being perfectly cool with eating rat; and the trio being briefly like "well, it's horrible what happened to that poor woman on the Nautiloid, but at least her ghost won't be slowly going insane and trying to feast on the life essence of the living" and the others being like "what." Leading to Victor, Alice, and Smiler learning that this world has an afterlife and being like D: as it dawns on them that the total destruction of the soul is not an accepted way to keep the world from being riddled from ghosts here. (The others are once again like "what the FUCK is wrong with your reality?")
-->Smiler spends a good portion of the early game looking for Us, before finally accepting sadly that the intellect devourer probably didn't survive the crash...and then they get to the mind flayer colony under Moonrise in Act Two and "Friend! You found the helm!" :D They are beyond happy to see Us and won't hear a word said against them from the other companions (who are naturally BAFFLED as to why Smiler wants an intellect devourer as a pet) -- and Us, for their part, is entirely loyal to their friend Smiler and all THEIR friends, because the kindness Smiler showed to them on the Nautiloid caused them to bond more closely with them than the rest of the hive :) Victor and Alice warm up to the little thing pretty quick, while the others...well, they get used to having a brain wandering around pretending to be a kitty. XD
-->Part of me would like Shar to somehow be responsible for the Shattered Isles no longer having a sun...and thus be real annoyed that people are still living in that world eight hundred and forty-seven years later (as Alice puts it, "you brought the darkness, and we just lit it back up again")
-->And in the "overpowered nonsense that wouldn't make it into any actual story stuff but is fun to think about," I enjoy pondering the possibility of the trio, when faced with the Avatar of Myrkul, using Victor's Whisper ghost-fighting stuff on it -- and successfully forcing it into a spirit bottle. I imagine the other companions would be like "how the FUCK did you bottle part of a GOD?!" while Myrkul would be just "...guess it beats dying again." Oh, and Withers finds it hilarious in his droll way. XD Bonus points for talking to Myrkul about what the damn plan with the Absolute even gets him, Myrkul realizing that he's somehow been had by the Netherbrain, and switching sides against his former compatriots because, yeah, this mind flayer invasion does NOT benefit him in any way, wtf.
-->Or, if you would like DIFFERENT godly intervention, I did have an idea where Mar-Mal is also able to access Faerun through the blessing they gave Smiler, and uses its influence to protect Smiler from the tadpole instead of Smiler having to rely on the Dream Visitor and the artifact. They task Smiler with spreading their influence and getting worshipers so Mar-Mal can do more on this plane, and Smiler happily talks up their god to anyone who will listen (also sharing what samples they have left of their Joy Serum). And fortunately for them, people are willing to throw at least a few prayers the way of a god of pure happiness...meaning that during the endgame, when it's time to fight the Netherbrain, Mar-Mal's gotten just enough power to come into Faerun, filling the sky with spiral clouds as they manifest. The gang still has to fight the Netherbrain, but it's easier as the Netherbrain is, um, a bit distracted trying to not be mindwarped by Mar-Mal! XD And once the threat is defeated, Mar-Mal is able to open up a temporary portal to bring Victor, Alice, and Smiler home. With the implication that they could get back eventually...like, say, in six months to catch up. :p
Whew -- bit more than I expected here! I don't know if anything is actually going to come from this -- I mean, I definitely have to get the REGULAR Valicer In The Dark stuff done first -- but it's fun to think about as I play the game. And it has inspired me to make a few not-incorrect quotes/shitposty scenes...

For meg!
Thank you for participating! 💖
Answered for Shrek-verse Meg:
10. how do the other characters feel about your self insert and f/o’s relationship?
When finding out a barmaid and Death himself are in a romantic relationship it’s not a surprise it’s hard to believe. Even in a world where an ogre married a princess, and a donkey and a dragon had mutant babies…this was so hard to wrap your head around even after seeing it with your own eyes.
Puss in Boots, who had come to a peaceful truce with Death, was shocked and a bit worried for the woman he met on the journey he made that peace on, but seeing how she and the wolf bantered and looked at each other when they thought no one witnessed it, his concerns fell.
Kitty Softpaws, who had a more neutral and even respectful relationship with Death (through her more careful but no less adventurous lifestyle) was surprised too, but having not had the terrifying journey Puss had with the embodiment of death itself, was less concerned. Really she was more amused and even teased Puss about how there seemed to be someone that beat him in charming others if Meg could charm even Death. (Then Kitty and Death developed a casual friendship as Team Friendship came to help track down the one stealing souls.)
Perrito didn’t see a problem at all with this. He thought it was so sweet and was happy his “fellow therapy dog” found his person. Meg tried to correct him, but Death told her just let the pup have this.
Meg’s best friend (maybe she will be an OC, maybe my actual best friend…or heck maybe she and Goldi will become close through similarities of adoption and having only animal friends) was also quite shocked and concerned at first too, but trusted Meg’s judgement and that she knew what she was getting into…eventually.
Life (an OC) was indifferent until getting caught up in the middle of everything. She was more focused on the crime against nature that was someone stealing life from people, but when she saw the lengths this mortal would go to for Death…it surprised her into caring.
The rest of the characters Meg encounters in the story, it depends on what happens when they meet and if they’re friend or foe. She likes to keep the relationship quiet with non-friends.
11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert wear?
Tumblr media
This is her default outfit, which is her barmaid dress.
But throughout the story she wears other clothes depending on the circumstance and accessibility.
Tumblr media
This dress for example, which is from the party famous for Shrek crashing it and ending in him and Fiona returning to their ogre selves. Muerte and her were there to investigate a death that would occur. Anyone that watched Shrek 2 knows who it was.
12. how would the fandom view your character?
I’m not sure…it depends how protective of Muerte they are, but I think some would think her crazy or in an unhealthy relationship for whatever reason they can make up, especially if she became a popular character in the source.
Others would probably be cruel to her because she’s in the way of their OTP (PussDeath, I’d guess) and unlike Kitty who is also an anthro cat, they wouldn’t do any kind of poly thing because a human and two anthro animals isn’t as hot as three anthro animals.
Then there would probably be those that ship with her because she’s a canon character and is therefore public domain. Which I would be flattered by if this were to happen, because I’m doing something right in that case. lol
Then there would be those that support it because canon monsterfucker, perfect for Tumblr specifically. lol
There’s not just one answer, since fandoms are a chaotic mess of opinions and ideas. My response here is based on my experience seeing all of it.
13. does your self insert have any information about their family?
Yes. Her parents are still alive, as are her siblings, but she doesn’t visit because she doesn’t have time and then because she’s determined to take down her grandparents’ killer.
But she has a strong relationship with her mom, even though they don’t see each other much anymore. She still writes when she can…but has not had the heart or courage to tell them she’s in a relationship with Death himself. For one, would they even believe her? For another, this shatters several dreams her mom had for her future if the relationship stays strong.
On top of that, all three siblings were adopted starting with herself.
14. what hobbies does your self insert have?
When she has time and energy, she draws. She has a sketchbook and charcoal pencil that she uses and her muses are those that have made an impact or that she’s fond of. If you flip through the most recent pages you’ll find them full of sketches of Muerte’s various expressions or poses most of which are casual and relaxed.
You will also find sketches of Team Friendship and (if she stays in touch) the Bear Family.
15. how does your self insert play a role in the plot of the story? do they help directly defeat the villain, support the heroes, etc.?
In the story she is the protagonist and kind of an anti-hero, so the one that moves the plot mostly. She doesn’t go out of her way to help people in need as she’s almost exclusively driven by her hunt for the man that killed her grandparents and tried to kill her, once she learns he’s at large again. But throughout the story she does more good than she does bad, especially in the quest for the Wishing Star arc.
When it comes to stuff that connects to the movies, though, she’s a supporting character. Still the main character to the reader, but if you watched the movies and she was there she’s a side character that joins the main conflict when it benefits her and Muerte’s mission. Or just her.
And yes she does help defeat Jack Horner directly, but in helping destroy the map which leads to his death.
16. freebie! name a fact about your self insert you want everyone to know.
Her gloves aren’t just for fashion purposes, and she always carries a dagger at her hip. She has had to use it several times, but has not taken a life as of the start of Corre, Corre Pequina Roja.

Bro and mom traveling together!!! We have some brain strand connection or some shit because I entertain that idea a lot. I love putting them into situations where they just have to be stuck together, gets a good laugh out of me.
I would ask more about that but hmm, maybe after this hc stuff (or really anything, I don’t mind if it’s another meta tangent) I wanted to ask about old lady English and Poppop? I think they’re pretty neat. Ushsjsk or maybe I should finish the strilonde guardians with Alpha Rose? I like her a lot too hmmm.
You can choose, I’m incompetent when it comes to choice.
Bro and Mom! you know i love talking about bro and mom now hahaha you're kinda pandering to my specific talking point interests lol!
Tbh I probably don't have as much fun stuff to say about Doc English and Poppop without talking about canon stuff! I think they, like Nanna and Grandpa, were given a really raw fucking deal, and that it definitely helped shape them into the kind of people they are BUT they are also old and that scares me LOL i mean it's still fun I just don't have to dig quite as deep to extract personality traits from them, since John and Jade are my secret darlings <3
BUT i can definitely warble about Alpha Rose Lalonde forever (cw again, for alcoholism)
it's no secret to the fandom, and to rng readers, that our other "Mom Lalonde" is an alcoholic. it breaks my heart that roxy really thought that drinking was a feasible way to get closer to her, and it makes me sad even typing it out
I do not think that she left the alcohol there in a malicious way, I think she genuinely just. Did not think about Roxy in that moment. She had a booze stash, it belonged to her, and she didn't (as funny as this is, for a person with pretty impeccable foresight) even consider the repercussions of leaving an eventual-teenager alone with a lifetime supply of the stuff
Alpha Rose didn't start drinking til adulthood, mostly after the age of 20
She learned to drive from John Crocker, which basically led to her just paying for driving school instead. Because yikes.
She is John's favorite even though she would never ever tell Dave this because it would devastate him
Dave Strider is (was) her only friend <3
I like to headcanon that she was actually connected more closely with her aspect, in part because she's Rose, and Seers are like that (Alternian Kankri remembered a gentler way of life for the trolls I think??) And in part because of Rose's accidental trip and fall into the favor of the horrorterrors
I just remember Calliope saying she could black out news feeds and shit and that feels very grimdark to me! Fun!
She took up knitting at 14, when John Crocker got her needles for her birthday (he doesn't know why, either, it just felt right)
Much like the beta guardians, they were 13 the first time they met Poppop and Grandma
Rose tends to be more pessimistic towards new people, but she has great faith in Dave, even though she knows that he will turn himself inside out without some kind of outside force to stop him
Being alone for a long time does this to you
She actually did not like Bro at all when they met, because she did not trust him, and because
She is very careful with Dave's heart, even if she's not like that with her own
She could see a lot of her bad traits in Bro, things that made her an excellent face for a rebellion, but made for a bad parent
She's more aware of Dave's flaws than he , most days
While the worlds did get smashed together, most of her dayware was absorbed by Momlonde's closet, so she really does just be wearing formal wear every day until she finally has access to clothes
Most of the time she can be found sporting Momlonde's pajamas
Very unlike aDave and Bro to start, she and Mom get along quite well. I'm sure Bro has nothing to do with this.
I think Mom really needed some kind of adult presence she could lean on, once the Daves showed up in New York, and while Rose is not exactly equipped to handle children, at least she had someone to talk to now!
You might imagine but they really both like wizards :)
The thing she was picking up from the pharmacy was Naltrexone
Quite frankly she probably shouldn't have been driving either but here we are
The kids winning the game released her from her obligation to the horrorterrors
She doesn't really know how to talk to Roxy, at least not in a super open way, but Roxy is pretty capable of taking the reins here, and I think it makes Rose sad, to see how much heavy lifting maturity wise her daughter has to do for her
Luckily for her however her daughter is Roxy
Mom is also Roxy
I definitely see her as more similar to Bro in terms of like, how she sees the players' place in the game, and their duty to the timeline. She understands (or understood, before) how necessary what they were doing was, and I don't think she would have given up, not even if Dave begged her to
She does in fact have a pretty solid handle on alpha Dave, as unfortunate for him as that is, and she is pretty much the only reason he never gave up, at all
Whether this is a positive or a negative thing is all contextual of course
She and Dave are kinda weird, I guess
She has absolutely also been a black cat for Halloween
She also went to college
Keg Stand Champion
Now trying her absolute best to be in recovery ofc
I don't think she makes a habit of lying for many reasons, but she is not above pushing Dave (yikes) if it will (did) benefit the rebellion long term
She likes to get her wait and hates losing
Yes even if it's petty
She is secretly thrilled that she makes the Striders uncomfortable
Okay so it's not a secret
She never bothered to learn how to cook and had an assistant who would bring her groceries lol
God remember how ubeyeats doesn't exist in 2012 that's fucked up
She is ambidextrous
The only reason she and Dave did not have a fallout over the house in Rainbow Falls is because Dave was busy chasing after John Crocker like a lost puppy
Her favorite color is green
She has always wanted to do karaoke, but I don't think she would actually be willing to participate, if it came down to it
Rose used to smoke, too, but she gave it up in the first timeline, when she saw how much of a nightmare Dave was becoming
Once again circling back to the Bro thing I think they are more similar than either of them would like to be (much like little Rose) and I think that makes every single convo I have to write between them a nightmare
She, unlike Dave, likes being the tallest person in the room, and wears heels in purpose
She and Rose have never been alone in a room together
On purpose
John Crocker used to take her hobby boat racing when she was younger
She used to let Dave paint her nails. No, he was not good at it.
She kept the original knitting needles John gave her until she died

Edit: WHAT HAPPENED TO MY POST FORMATTING??? WHERED MY READMORE GO?????
Edit 2: Fixed the formatting, this app is so broken ;-;
I posted the first two to personal bc they were part of a batch but they also feature my design of Nanako from my P4–5 AU of my self ship AU.
Lore stuff under the cut because this is one of my more developed AUs despite it not being canon to my main AU at all lmao.
Quickie recap of the premise to my AU bc I don't remember if I ever posted it to this blog. Basically when Maruki is researching cognitive pscience pre-P5, he gets access to the Shadow Ops' files of the multiple incidents in Inaba (P4 + Arena/Ultimax) and learns about Jay basically being displaced from their own timeline to This Side via Nyarly, causing him to add multiverse theory to his cognitive pscience studies. P5's story happens, as does P5R's 3rd semester, but in this scenario Maruki is able to win against the Phantom Thieves, merge the worlds + take control over the world as its new god of control (Rip Yaldy lmao), and seal the Phantom Thieves away until he can figure out how to convert them to the new world despite their renewed wills making them immune to Maruki's distortions. In the meantime, to say thanks to Jay for indirectly helping him bring his idea of happiness to the world, he distorts the world again to allow Jay to fulfill their wish to have been born in this timeline, meet Adachi and the rest of the Investigstion Team (IT) sooner, yada yada a bunch of other sappy stuff. To make an even longer story short, Jay and all of the people they have a very strong connection with (Adachi, Dojima, the IT, and surprise guest: my familial OC F/O Skylar) are turned back into highschoolers and all attend Shujin, where Maruki can watch over them (out of fear that they might react like the Phantom Thieves did if they ever find out the truth.) Because of these distortions, pretty much everyone from P4 and P3 had their entire lives changed and are living in completely different scenarios. Philemon tasks Jay and Narukami with returning their friends' memories to them, slapping some sense into Maruki, and restoring the world to the state it should be in.
Nanako is one of the people affected by Maruki's distortions. In my AU, Dojima becomes a member of the IT and thusly is also affected and turned back into a teenager alongside everyone else in the party. Because I'm not completely insane, Dojima and Chisato will not have Nanako while he's like 17/18 during the AU's story. Chisato is still Nanako's mother, but marries Shinya Oda's father instead of Dojima. Her mom still dies while Nanako is young, but Oda remarries to Shinya's canon birthmom. Due to her new circumstances, instead of being under the Justice Arcana, she is now under of the Tower Arcana. Her Social Link/Confidant still deals with her independence, but has a bigger focus on her want to be a good sister and set a good example for Shinya to follow.
As for the design itself, she's a bit more rebellious than canon Nanako and tends to be a bit of a rule breaker, especially when Shinya isn't around. She's got a very strained relationship with her parents, especially her stepmother, and is pretty attention starved as a result. So she acts out to get some kind of attention. I tried to make her design reflect this. She's in her last year of middle school, so she obviously wears her school uniform. But she breaks dress code by not wearing the right jacket, incorrectly wearing the shirt, and adds an extra t-shirt to the outfit. I styled the jacket, bow, socks, and shoes to resemble her clothes in canon. I also made her wear her hair differently. A lopsided short ponytail felt like it look both cute and give the impression of being a young child's attempt to dress more like a delinquent lol. Plus it has a sporty vibe, somewhat inspired by Nanako's model in the P5 beta leak using a lacrosse stick as a weapon. I didn't want her new rebellious nature to be outright in front of your face, plus she still needs to be somewhat presentable/socially acceptable to be that good example for Shinya, so I kept it pretty tame.

📂📂📂📂📂📂📂📂📂
Ok so I miscounted, it’s 9 and not 10. BUT, I’ve been in a Guardian mood so, I’m still dropping facts about them <3
📂 Robin Westerberg, Guardian of Fire : Warmth, Home, Affection
Despite the traumatic dumpster fire that was his parents' marriage, he’s the most hopeless romantic of them all. Because of this, he has the most love interest of all my characters, which is 3. Though most are nothing more than crushes lol Robin has heterochromia, which plays a significant role in his arc.
📂 Aasim Mbodji, Guardian of Energy : The Soul, Courage, Will
He plays the drums in a band, but can play a wide array of instruments like bass, cello, and trumpet, and he’s an absolute beast at singing. Sadly he’s very shy about it so very few get to actually hear him sing.  Aasim’s element was originally Thunder.
📂 Max Erdene, Guardian of Lightning : Chaos, Light, Battle
Shortest and snarkiest of the bunch, so naturally he’s the jock. He even has a whole rivalry with a girl at their school, who is an old friend he had a falling out with during his gender discovery. It’s all fun and games though.  Max has gone through the most name changes of any character (Theo - Edvin - Max)
📂 Signe Krantz, Guardian of Illusion : The Mind, Memory, Judgement
It is a little too easy for her to provoke and aggravate people, more so than she thinks. So even if it is her intention, she’s almost always shocked when it works. It also ends up leading to my favorite scene in book 2. Signe is fluent in ssl (swedish sign language)
📂 Linus Medico-Forsberg, Guardian of Spirit : The Heart, Recovery, Devotion
Different from the other Guardians, he’s had access to his powers his entire life. Though only his ability to see emotions, which led to him becoming a firm believer in astrology and the supernatural. Linus made friendship bracelets for all the Guardians.
📂 Kim Saito, Guardian of Time : Progression, Harmony, Evolution
She has a very hard time apologizing, even if she knows she’s in the wrong. While it is a part of her hypocritical tendencies, it’s mostly due to a fairly traumatic event in her childhood. Kim is the only character to have sex within the narrative (does that make sense ?)
📂 Louise Müller, Guardian of Air : Breath, Communication, Liberty
She’s the soft kind of weird. Like, she has random trinkets in her pocket she’ll give to her friends for no real reason and baby talks spiders. She’s full of gentle whimsy <3 Louise was the first character to have a canon sexuality (lesbian)
📂 Joakim Dubois, Guardian of Water : Youth, Beginnings, Emotions
Being the grandchild and child of world-famous designers, they made it their life mission to be as weird, unapproachable, and annoying as possible so people would leave them alone. Joakim and Amber have been best friends since daycare.
📂 Amber Castellanos, Guardian of Earth : Compassion, Redemption, Patience
Not only is she a gamer, but she’s a killer chef too. And since both her parents are into gardening, with her mother also being a groundskeeper at a graveyard, she’s got a very keen understanding of herbs and spices. Amber has a cat nammed Tomillo.
📂 William Arvidsson, Guardian of Gravity : Order, Darkness, Peace
His biggest passions in life are design and fashion. There is not a single article of clothing he owns that he has not altered in some way. His biggest project is a custom-made suit that is very gender. William was originally into cosplay.

MY BOY...God he is just so pretty. I love him so much. Twilight Princess was my first Zelda game and so he will always be my favorite. -He did pout about losing the wolf pelt but he has settled for fur-lined jackets that are well broken in.
-Does own cowboy boots, mainly cause the other fuckers boys keep just giving them to him.
-You can see the chest tattoo peeking out...I am soooo tempted to draw them all. Definitely one of the more heavily inked along with Legend and Wild.
-Had to have room to run around as Wolfie.
-I see him wanting and maybe owning a ranch? He needs a weekend away to ride Epona and be away from the city. (Our girl BETTER have come with our boy or we RIOT)...also gives him an escape with y/n when she gets close enough with them. He'd love to show her an escape from the stress of the city...and how wonderful life with him can be.
-His clothes are more durable than comfortable. He likes broken in clothes, especially good leather. -Just as charming as Warriors but in a more, good boy way. Definitely, boy next door vibes...no one expects the violence he is capable of when you come between him and his singular reason to exist. He loves his darling so much.
GAH I COULD TALK ABOUT HIM ALL DAY
Tumblr media
Oooh, if that man approached me... huehuehue
First off yes, If Epona can traverse through the portal in canon, she can travel beyond dimensions! (The horses of the modern world WISH they could be a single percent as amazing as Epona!)
Chest tattoo? I wish to to pull the collar of hos shirt out...and see the full view... huehuehue
Ahem, I mean, from a creative standpoint, of course...
I feel that the main house the chain reside in is nice and large. Not because they wanna be extravagant, but those dungeon crawlers learned a thing or two about making a large building veeeery complex (with traps and runes and places to hide their prisoners...)
But they do have large spaces and most of them DO have their own little properties. So Twilight would have a ranch with many acres of land and Legend would have a set of warehouses and a huge library that only the rest of the chain have access to.
Four would have a private personal forge to create things. (Not to be confused with the main forge he uses to make the chain their weapons)
Time would have probably bough some property on the water for Wind (and made sure the sailor had a few old fashioned and modern boats so he can expand his skill)
I like how it looks like a punk but the moment someone would speak to him, it's like whiplash!
(When he dresses for 'business', ooooh he is as deadly as his blade. Then again they all have that trait)
If he manages to obtain something of hers that has her scent, he stays as Wolfie, basically just drilling her scent into his memory, so he could never forget it. (Even though he acts intoxicated if he does that for too long, but the others merely swipe away whatever he's latching to in order to snap him out of it. Even though they'll probably do the same thing when somewhere private)
Remember, this boys be cray-cray, but they are gentlemen! (Even if they have some crooked morals these days. But for their beloved, they can reign them in!)
A fantastic piece! I just wanna snatch his jacket, I bet it's nice and comfy!
Phenomenal work!

Why do I think Lily Evans (Potter) was not a good friend?
Until recently, the general opinion of the fandom was that Lily Potter was a good girl, deified and the representation of purity and goodness. But, doing a more exhaustive study of the character, we can get to see how Lily evans maybe was not so holy and made mistakes due to her education and, possibly, depending on the stage of her life where she found herself when she made those mistakes.
In relation to Severus Snape, I think she was not a good friend. Regardless of his age, which we all understand that we do not see friendship in childhood, adolescence or adulthood, she also had defects that compared to other characters in the saga, they were not a role model.
Starting from the little we know about her through the worst memory and Snape's memories, we are going to take some situations into account to assess her defects:
She blamed Snape for the letter Petunia sent to Dumbledore.
She got mad at Snape for dropping a branch on Petunia, even though he did so unconsciously and Petunia was rude to him.
The discussion with Snape about what happened with Remus (werewolf accident), his distrust of who was her friend and believing others before, not caring about Snape.
The lake scene, where she never addressed Snape once, as if he didn't know him and was just another boy to help.
The same lake scene, where she taunted Snape after he called her "Mudblood".
Now, let's talk about the problems at different levels (social, emotional, mental, physical and cultural):
Social: Snape comes from a lower social class than Lily and, although at first the girl Lily did not see the difference, I suppose that as time passed she realized that it did not look good for Snape to wear second hand clothes (surely ), he had serious problems in the family sphere, Snape's own unsociable nature that did not allow him to have a larger group of friends. In childhood we do not usually take into account the social variable when making friends with other children (pre-Hogwarts), but as she became related to the peer group at Hogwarts, she surely could not help feeling somewhat ashamed of the friendship with Snape . Let me explain, in Snape's adulthood it seems that no one knew about Lily and Snape's friendship, so it would be a secret friendship (and we all know that shame towards the other is what leads to secret friendships and relationships).
Emotional: Lily quickly connected with Snape because there was something she needed from him, and it was the knowledge and the desire to be accepted in a place like Hogwarts. Hogwarts was a new world that she did not know and Snape could offer her the security of knowing that world ... But, when she knew what she had to know, Snape had nothing more to offer her, but a clandestine and unrewarding friendship for her. It is not a mistake to think this, but it does show that she deliberately used Snape and that their friendship deteriorated over time. I think she might have felt friendship for Snape in a pure way, but when she began to be friends with the marauders, her emotional level turned towards these guys and she began to move away from Snape. I think the dark arts were an excuse to end the friendship, wanting to get away from him in an interested way ... it's easy to think that, when you really feel empathy for someone, you try to make the effort to understand that person, to know why him he likes the dark arts. However, she Lily was not able to understand him, understand his fears, his insecurities and the need to flee from the hell where he was stuck.Referring to the lake scene, I think Lily had a complete dissociation from Snape by now, she didn't defend being his friend, she didn't speak to him directly even once, and when he made a mistake due to the situation, she scoffed of him and "flirted" with James.
Mental: I think Lily never understood the true meaning of friendship, not at least as she later taught us Harry by understanding Ron and Hermione and accepting his flaws, even when this child was only 11 years old. I think that Lily, as soon as she could, got rid of Snape because she no longer wanted to have an uncomfortable friend, a friend who surely helped her for years in her studies at Hogwarts (I mean surely potions). Snape was like a teacher for Lily in her access to the magical world, he helped her in the study and knowledge of the magical world and I think that Lily stopped seeing usefulness when she already found in Gryffindor and the marauders the way to go her way . I mean, I think she coldly weighed whether or not she was interested in staying friends with Snape and she conveniently cut off the friendship when she got the chance. Lily showed herself to be a cold person who did not understand what Snape was in her whole and who did not appreciate all that he had done for her.I know that calling her "Mudbloods" was not right, but instead of trying to understand the shame and harassment that Snape felt at that time, she broke off the friendship and remained friends with the stalker, the one who emotionally blackmailed her and who continued to be a bully. No one can convince me otherwise.
Physical: here we will talk about the implications of a person who is not really physically attractive. There are studies that determine that people who do not fit the standards of beauty tend to have fewer opportunities in social relationships, love relationships or even find a job. With all this I mean that, when we are children, we do not care about anyone's physical appearance, but when we reach adolescence, our group of equals teach us the canons of beauty, which is considered handsome or what not. In this case, I think Lily was superficial. That is to say, Snape was not physically attractive, surely he did not look comfortable being with him because she was a popular, pretty girl, and he was attracted to a boy who was much more attractive than Snape (even though James was, in my opinion, uglier emotionally and disrespectful to others, adding being a bully). Lily preferred to go for the handsome boy rather than choose a loyal friend who was unattractive.
Cultural: At this level many factors enter, but here I will choose to talk about the differences of ideologies and different culture between Slytherin and Gryffindor. As we know, both houses were enemies, they were the contrast between good and evil in the Harry Potter saga. Slytherin represented everything bad and Gryffindor everything good. Here we also talk about the peer group (that is, a group of people that we consider our equals and from whom we learn cultural, social, emotional and behavioral factors), where Lily in the end ended up choosing to choose Gryffindor and be immersed in ideas prefabs that already existed about Slytherin even though, surely, many ideas were not true. Some of these ideas were hatred towards the "dirty bloods", defending the purity of blood, ambition as a negative element and cunning as if it were something bad that always leads to cheating.Where I see these preconceptions most clearly is in the scene where Lily argues with Snape for defending Mulciber, etc ... in this scene it seems that Lily puts the marauders before (she is supposed to talk about them) because they are from her house and believes that what Mulciber does is worse because he is in Slytherin. Being in Gryffindor, she is believed to have the moral superiority and the right to claim Snape to choose a position, when obviously Snape, like Lily, will choose their peer group. The point here is that Lily prefers to believe the marauders and put Snape in the guilty position, without even asking if his friend is okay or asking him what he saw ... Lily is not interested in knowing what happened because surely he was content with James's version and would always doubt any version Snape could give it.
Up to here, I did my study. It is a bit lazy, I wrote it on the fly and remembering some of the knowledge I acquired when I was studying Pedagogy. But, in essence, I hope you have understood. In the end, Lily opted for what she considered to be okay based on ideas and beliefs that she ended up having with her peer group. She put her friendship with the marauders first and decided to coldly and selfishly eliminate her friendship with Snape. In the end, we have all had friends from whom we have moved away because they no longer shared things with us (although I can presume that I never alienated anyone for thinking differently or liking things that I did not like), but also friends that we have from all our lives, with those of us who do not like things about them, but accept them and try to understand them, where the company of that person is valued more and we do not care what they tell us. It is true that the "peer group" exerts a lot of influence on us, despising those who consider strange people or have unusual habits for the majority of the population. But Snape and Lily met in childhood, this factor should not have been decisive for their estrangement and, I am afraid, that in the almost of Lily, he ended up accepting the conditions of his peer group to the detriment of maintaining a friendship that so much contributed. I don't hate Lily, I have no problem with her, for me she really is a flat character, too overrated and that only has a few three lines in the entire Harry Potter saga. It is impossible to empathize with her as we would with other characters and she hardly has any development of her. The most remarkable thing about her is that she gave her life for her son, otherwise she showed us a girl who had a strange friendship with Snape and who married the popular boy of her time.

Thank you for pointing out that it's really implausible for someone not a part of an official Fantasy(tm) government to have access to full plate armor and keep it maintained on their lonesome, I have this character who somehow Wanders The World and yet is also in full plate all the time? At least I can understand how to edit that idea. Shame video games lied to me on how much armor is too much or too little for travel.
Historically speaking, most figures we'd recognize as Knights In Shining Armor were people who could afford to maintain their own armor, sword, horse- usually landed nobles. 'Knight' is a class within a peerage, closer to a lord or lady than a servant. Similar story for historical samurai- they were privileged people who could afford a sword IIRC.
Another thing I try to think about is that armor is... impractical. Uncomfortable. It's not impossible to use or limiting your range of movement massively- they did an experiment where a historical reenactor in full plate ran an obstacle course against a soldier in modern field gear, I don't recall where but I remember seeing the footage, but the knight did favorably- but living in armor is an impractical, though not an impossible, decision.
You can easily lean into that- if your character is a vagrant wanderer in full plate, they had to have either come from or been employed at some point by money, or possibly had a chance to take really good armor off someone else. If they're living in their armor almost all the time, there's still probably parts they shed according to some routine or another, and what isn't regularly taken off and cleaned (or at least, y'know, scrubbed) will probably get stinky. A big oft-overlooked-in-fantasy part of armor is padding- just the metal layer will prevent cuts, but to actually have meaningful impact resistance against stabs, pierces, or bone-shattering impacts, one way or another a would-be knight is usually wearing several layers. While it's not the only option, a gambeson- a thick quilted coat- and over that a harness to attach and support the various armor pieces is very common. Armor is actually very logistics-heavy! Owning, maintaining, and wearing it is a big deal. That's not to say you can't ever depict a character who has armor but can't maintain it- but that could very well be an interesting point.
(I think about this a lot when I draw Prisoner from Dead Cells- he is the last person who can really afford armor, meaningfully, and he's also an emaciated person going through a lot of it- so I tend to draw his armor as dented, scratched up, extremely piecemeal per canon- he really only has one pauldron and maybe a breastplate depending- and literally tied on with strips of spare cloth, because he has no padding both in terms of his deeply unhealthy body weight and the unlikeliness this armor was ever tailored to him)
In the case of rpgverse, few of the core cast has much in the way of armor. Diana literally is an ex-knight; she used to be a marchioness (relatively big cheese; right below a duke), hence why it was a pretty big courtly betrayal when she joined Deimos, who kitted her out accordingly using basically magical artifice.
Tumblr media
Diana's armor, when she regains the ability to summon it, is a bit unnaturally fitted to her figure. I designed it off of the articulations of an exoskeleton; you can see this most obviously in where it secures to her neck. Being made of an unnatural, highly flexible quasi-organic material gives it advantages in that regard- these plates can slide over each other to articulate without scratching each other to hell and back. I've also been careful to keep the spikes on her pauldrons short and flared outwards, so she can do things like raise her arms over her head without poking herself.
Even then, she's definitely going to be dispelling it (sometimes, even the left-hand gauntlet that holds her prosthetic shadow-arm in place and forces it to work more like a conventional appendage) when not needed.
Depending on how committed you are to your knight character, anon, there's plenty of fun worldbuilding or lorebuilding options you could use to still capture the image you like. I think that practical concerns and knowledge shouldn't preclude imagination in fantasy writing, but help you hone it down- have a sense of what it means if your character is always wearing armor. Diana's armor symbolizes a lot of things to her- her former status, service she both is and isn't proud of, but also her own ability to face opposition head-on. It means a lot to her, and as the drawing makes pretty clear I think, her mental health drastically improves when she's able to reforge her own connection with darkness and regain its use.

Tate Langdon headcanons
(aka me projecting onto the poor guy)
He is bi/pansexual (doesn't mind either label)
Has internalized homophobia bc of Constance’s bullshit though
Adores fruit, one of the only things he'll gladly eat
Loves being praised
Thrifts all his clothes
He is 100% an artist
Reads constantly (and has great taste)
The library is like his escape room
It’s quiet and secluded and has so many worlds that he can escape into
Once the internet became bigger he went absolutely wild
With all that knowledge to be consumed at his fingertips, he was enamored
He's a little too into true crime though
Like he'll get really into one case that will consume him for weeks
You should have seen him when all the Jeffrey Dahmer stuff came to light
He was very much not okay
Kurt Cobain's death was part of the reason he snapped
Gets peeved out by eating sometimes, so he skips meals often
Really emotional pretty much 24/7
Little to no friends
When he was still alive he would try to get out of the house as much as possible because of his mother
He would still be there for Addy when she needed her brother though
He loves cuddling, especially being the little spoon
Please hold him
Constantly longs for more cardigans, he has a problem
Halloween is his favorite holiday
The Nightmare Before Christmas came out a year before he died, he loved it
Probably liked Beetlejuice too
A fan of Tim Burton's aesthetic in general
Ben prescribed him Lexapro so he probably has either anxiety or depression (at least)
Loves new technology, show him Spotify and he'll be the happiest little guy
One of those kids that pretended to be a vampire in 3rd grade
Likes causing discourse on the internet
Maybe a bit of a theater kid (?)
Probably enjoys vandalizing things/spraypaint
Also enjoys shoplifting
Just petty crimes
Almost got arrested several times but always managed to get away until the last time
Despises change
More than likely had a couple romantic partners before Violet, but only got hurt
Would run a successful aesthetic Tumblr blog
Let's be real he would live on Tumblr if he got a device with internet access
Slang confuses the shit out of though, he really is still a 90s kid
Is sad he can't go out to movies after he's dead
Would order a projector online and make his own movie theater in the attic
Invites all the other ghosts up there to join him
Laughs at portrayals of ghosts in movies
Adores slashers though
I feel like he'd love Friday the 13th and Scream specifically
He's an online shopping addict now because I said so
He can't leave the house, it only makes sense
He'd steal the current residents of Murder House's credit cards to pay for it all
This also causes more discourse among the families, which I honestly think he might find entertaining
Speaking of addictions, he is 100% a caffeine addict
Especially loves green Monster Energy
It gives him heart palpitations but he drinks it anyway
Back when he was alive, the caffeine addiction eventually spiraled into cocaine and meth
But we all knew that that’s literally canon
Absolutely gets jittery for no reason, even without being on anything, so the drugs would only heighten that
Self-conscious about how scrawny he is
Definitely owns a jewelry box
Larry probably called him a sissy for owning jewelry once, so he makes a point to wear it every day
Made earrings out of his wisdom teeth
Makes earrings out of anything
He writes poetry and his own songs to get rid of his extra emotions
He carries a composition notebook around with him everywhere for scribbles and doodles
You never know when inspiration is going to strike
If he for some reason doesn’t have his notebook on him when he gets an idea he will write on napkins, his own skin, shoes, whatever he can find
He seems like the kinda guy to save newspaper clippings, don’t ask me why
He’d keep a bunch of them on his corkboard or pasted into his notebook
Basically “lives” for music when he has nothing else to keep him going
Loves sleep but stays up way too late at the same time
His love language is touch, but he’s also afraid of being touched/is touch-starved
Gets obsessed with random topics and will research them for days
He has a bunch of miscellaneous knowledge because of this
Likes fire/ burning stuff
Fav colors are reds and greens (but absolutely not next to each other)
His fav color scheme is orange and purple/black because it reminds him of Halloween
Buy him presents and he will love you forever
Or just make him something
He didn’t ever have  a lot of people caring about him growing up, so he will  absolutely treasure any gift that is offered to him
He would love playing classic video games like Pong, Tetris, and Pac Man
This doesn’t stop him from enjoying new games too!!
I have a feeling he would be a big fan of Animal Crossing especially
Being friends with cute animals makes him feel less alone
Also seems like he would carry around a battered deck of cards with him everywhere for quick games of Solitaire
He has a wall of entertainment/distraction materials in his room (VHS tapes, CDs (both blank & burned), DVDs, records, books, games)
Fascinated by anatomy, it’s the only science class he ever did well remotely well in
He was probably one of the “advanced” kids in elementary school, but by the time he hit high school he was too done with people to care that much anymore
He’s smart, just done with society and conforming to its rules
Probably wanted to grow his hair out at one point, but Constance wouldn’t let him
Speaking of hair, he probably cuts his own
He started having to do that himself in middle school and at first it looked awful
He’s a pro by now though
Loves braiding Addy’s hair for her to help her look like a pretty girl
He’s a great brother, even though he’s the youngest
Mess with his siblings and you mess with him
That’s all for now, but I’ll probably come back and add more later. Please consider adopting any of these headcanons as your own and then telling me so,  as I adore validation.
I’ve also got headcanons for Kyle in the works, and feel free to request any of your favorite Evan characters as well :)
Thank you for reading!!!

How do you think Sophie's family/friends would react to female to male Sophie Foster? Like if it were while she was in the Lost Cities.
oo that's an interesting one! trans sophie, specifically in the lost cities (i'm assuming in the canon timeline with all the other worldbuilding still intact). I don't know if they have the concept in the Lost Cities--I mean I think it's entirely safe to assume that queer elves exist whether or not Shannon writes about them, you just can't erase us.
(note: I will be referring to Sophie with that name and =they/they pronouns for this post simply because name and pronouns are a whole other deal)
I think their immediate family and friends would be supportive, if a little confused, but understand that whatever they're talking about with gender means a lot to them. The elven world follows so many traditional stereotypes when it comes to gender--like hair length, dresses, etc.--and all apparently at will, as Della (i think it was her, might've been Edaline) said that Sophie didn't need to wear dresses if they wanted to wear pants instead, as it was actually the capes that signified nobility and not the dresses. This leads me to believe that there has been at least one other person who has rebelled against the dresses and prefers pants, hence that answer came so easily to Della; it wasn't her first time thinking about it. However, as it never went into practice for Sophie (another thing about her wardrobe that I'll mention in another post. to the person who sent me an ask about it: I saw it! I'll get to it!), it does make me think there would be a little bit of a rocky transition into wearing more traditionally masculine clothing.
it's worth noting that just because they may be ftm, they don't need to change their wardrobe and throw away all their dresses, I'm just including this because we've seen mentions of Sophie disliking the more poofy/obviously feminine clothing throughout the series, so they seem like they might be someone who would want to change their presentation a little.
to get a little more into specifics: I don't think any of their friends or family would be hostile towards them, maybe unintentionally a little dense, but well-meaning. Edaline would be very open and welcome to their transition, whatever that entailed (if anything), and mostly grateful Sophie was comfortable sharing that with her. I think Grady would be protective, the kind of person to question them just a little bit to make sure this was something they really wanted (not because he didn't believe them, just because he'd recognize the difficulties and wouldn't want them to go through it without due cause). I don't think Sandor would particularly care, mainly concerned with keeping them safe and only thinking about it so far as to make sure they feel safe emotionally with him. He'd recognize it as not his place to question or judge, and he doesn't need to know how their gender works in order to respect and protect them.
onto the friends! I think Biana and Dex would be the most supportive upfront and ask the fewest questions. Biana might even take this as a chance to help figure out how Sophie wants to look and figure that out with them. it's right up her alley, as she loves doing others up, and it's a bonding opportunity too, a chance to let Sophie reintroduce themself to her. And maybe she'd take the opportunity to take all those lovely gowns off Sophie's hands...you know, out of support, not at all because she wants them for herself (insert knowing wink here). And then Dex is already used to living outside the norms of society, so seeing Sophie decide to do what they wanted and to stop trying to fit in to a feminine role would just make his ecstatic. Because he knows what that's like and he'd enjoy seeing one of his close friends stick it to the system--and he'd also be very supportive of their journey. I imagine he'd help with whatever technical aspects of transitioning Sophie would want, helping them access resources and all that.
i think Keefe would be a little caught off guard, but once Sophie explains how they feel and he can feel their emotions on the subject, I think he'd be very enthusiastic about them doing what they wanted. he might berate himself for not putting the pieces together sooner, as he could literally feel their discomfort with themselves throughout the years and yet he just brushed it off. I kind of get the vibe he'd help Biana with assisting Sophie in finding their style, but focus more of the appearance aspect over the clothes. Teaching them how to actually wear the clothes together and style their hair and all that. he also feels like he'd start being a little rougher with them, playing around with them and teasing them the way he usually does with Fitz as he works to unlearn the way he perceived them before. Speaking of Fitz, he feels like the kind of friend who would be like "why would you do that?" but only because he doesn't fully understand what they're talking about. Not that he wouldn't be supportive, he'd just need a little more guidance and assistance understanding what they want. he's had a very traditional mindset for a lot of the series, but I think his love and respect for Sophie would be more than enough to challenge his understanding of gender so he could support them. if they had already dated at this point in time, he might want to talk to them privately about that just to understand if that's why things didn't work out or if he'd done something wrong, but that's another conversation.
then there are the other, more sidelined friends, all of whom I think would generally react the same. I think Linh would just go with it and not ask questions, but be pleased that Sophie feels more themselves, perhaps sharing a story of her own about coming into herself and her power and accepting herself as she was. i don't imagine Tam would have much of an outward reaction, being like "why are you telling me this, I don't care" but internally reworking how he thought about them. And I imagine he'd be a little protective, seeing Sophie go outside the norms of society even more. He was scorned by society for years, so that's a subject close to his heart, so while he might not think much of it or how it will affect their relationship, I think he'd be more protective of them, just like from the background. Then Marella would probably take it in stride and say something like "I always knew there was something off about you" but not in an insulting way, just being like ah. that's what it was. you were always a little different and I couldn't figure out why you acted the way you did, but this makes sense. It might answer a question about Sophie she didn't even know she had. Maruca probably wouldn't think much of it, instead focused on the Black Swan and fighting. I imagine something similar with Wylie, both of them going okay that's not my problem, happy for you but also there's some things we need to work on. They'd use their name and pronouns and support them emotionally, but I don't think they're close enough to them to have more of a reaction. it's just...not a priority to them.
this is getting long so I'll stop there for now, but there's also the thoughts of how the black swan, neverseen, council, and elven society as a whole would react to their gender things. I think Sophie would have an excellent support system built up, they're friends and family loving them more than any confusion that might get in their way.
this was a very interesting ask!! so thank you for the opportunity! got a lot longer than I expected it to, but I enjoyed it!

A Cycle of Seals: Writing Excerpt (Princess of Impotence)
Tumblr media
After three months of continual debate on whether or not to post this excerpt, my friends convinced me to submit it on-stream tonight. While it imperfectly handles heavy topics I myself am still working through, I hope you see the heart and healing process behind it - and, most importantly, behind Eirys.
You may remember these three from my recent Character Description Challenge! I can never get enough of writing their dynamic, even as their in-canon scenes continue to dwindle through editing. Whomp.
___
Project: A Cycle of Seals Timeline: Pre-Book One Canonical? No Context:
The House of Salvation has long isolated society’s sick. The Godewine twins - Royan and Eirys - visit every dawn and tend to the condemned. While Royan attracts the masses with the supernatural power of his Timekeeper’s Seal, the powerless Eirys attends to one individual: Oeden Sincairn, locked away even from the other infirm.
Content Warnings: Illness, Isolation, Mentions of Ableism
___
The Yoreword warns of a wickedness more contagious than any sickness, one bestowed upon the lowest amongst them. Eirys has never - paragons forgive her blasphemy - believed that. Illness did not demean one’s internal divinity. Not when the skin-deep sainthood of her fellow nobles could nauseate an angel. Even still, sacrilege guides her away from those surrounding her blessed sibling to instead seek solace with the kingdom’s most corrupted citizen.
With the crowd thoroughly enthralled by Royan’s abilities, Eirys slips outside their thinning scope of notice and down the western hall. While the main chamber had been filled to overflowing with the infirm, naught but a begrudging servant files through the passage here. Those who notice her appearance regard her with the civil disinterest paid to one of their own. Or had they purposely dismissed their princess? Nonsense, she thinks (but does not believe).
Would such insolence not make sense? She is no Shepherd. She bears no Seal. She does not sway the hearts of nobles like Isolde, does not command the arms of soldiers like Sigrid, does not awe the minds of scholars like Ciaran. She is but another stumbling block to the damned’s salvation, a scourge to kiss their scars.
Why must power inhabit those who refuse to wield it well? That question had no answer, or at least not one the spirits deign to supply.
Yet, despite her inherent impotence, one resident still awaits her entrance.
Eirys shuffles down the corridor, around the corner, and up to a room quartered off from the rest. With a knock for courtesy, she slips in without awaiting permission.
Inside, the chamber holds little else other than Oeden, perched at the edge of a bed as unkempt as he. He is dressed, thankfully - not that a medic cares much for modesty - with a tunic hanging loosely off his wiry form. The tension that inhabits his shoulders evacuates whilst registering his visitor’s identity.
You’re safe, she thinks, willing the assurance to reach him. Safe, but not saved.
A flicker of mischief lifts his lips, too weak to raise the bags beneath his eyes. “Abandoning your brother, are we?”
Eirys huffs, indignant fists finding her hips. Even Oeden thought only of Royan! “I do hope that’s not a disappointment.”
He does not answer, and so Eirys sets to work. Oeden needs attention - medically, at least - every day before sunrise, lest their superiors deny him access to the sanctuary. If coming here every morning means her friend can escape isolation? Well, it made her wartime training worthwhile. Her bag unpacked, the bedside table stands littered with supplies of every shape and size: needles and knives and salves that would unnerve even hardened warriors.
Oeden refuses to flinch.
“You should have seen them,” Eirys says as she rifles through her satchel for a binding beneath the draughts. “All those patients, pawing at his Seal like it might peel off if they rub it right. They were two fools short of a parade!”
Oeden cannot see it, can see little else beside this room, and instead snorts from imagination alone. “With Royan there, they only need one more.”
She swats him with the wad of bandages in hand but cannot hold back her laughter. How tragic that such wit must stay locked away. “At least someone pays him any mind.”
“Ironic, isn’t it? His only admirers come from ones the rest of the world admonishes.” The laugh that follows lacks all humor.
There is a sickness in Norire. One that spares the poor and spoils the pure. One whose unholy hand reaches across the nation, fingers of infirmity digging into every manse and mansion. Even her own. Eirys knows this, intrinsically. Hates it, irrefutably. But, like every other illness, she cannot cure it. Not anymore than she might will away the wickedness of kings who condone quarantining the chronic, the heresy of priests enslaving the impoverished, the sinfulness of princesses submitting to these societal normalities.
Instead, she sits down. Shuts up. Prays behind sealed lips to an imprisoned god for forgiveness, for change.
Oeden never minds the silence. His proclaimed disdain for company disproved itself with every unspoken show of appreciation. This time, it crumbled beneath a subtle repositioning atop the bed: an invitation for intimacy.
Eirys accepts his summons, scooting closer, the equipment her plus one. A once-over of his body shows no sign of his condition having spread, but she can tell little with the glove that disguises his limb. Her hand hovers above, but does not touch. “May I…?”
Oeden nods. Neither required consent – thus why she elicits it. No one asked Oeden permission to burden him with this power, any more than they had asked Eirys to deprive her of it. He deserves this small dignity.
With measured tenderness, Eirys peels back the fabric encasing his left arm. Each inch of cloth stripped away reveals the crystalline protrusions carving through calloused skin in misshapen patches. Flesh split in bloodied fissures, ore corroding the body into its personal deposit. No worse than before, she thinks. The thought does little to placate her concerns because that does not make it better than before either.
Oeden evades her gaze. Witnessing her displeasure would surely confirm a deep-whispered suspicion: that he was, even to her, grotesque. She knows that he spies her reaction when he thinks her attention lies elsewhere, awaits a well-deserved grimace or an artificial grin. Instead, Eirys freezes her face in cold indifference. It comes naturally, she realizes - her family has done the same on the throne for one hundred years, after all, for far less noble a purpose.
She pulls a rag from the pouch at her hip and dips it into one of the pungent balms scattered about the bed top. The whiff of peppermint briefly assaults her before the musty scent of Salvation overpowers it. “Ready?” she asks. His nodded ascent initiates the delicate process of cleaning the crystal. Eirys traces the edges of fractured skin with her cloth as if she painted a masterpiece - with precision, and with respect to the canvas.
Oeden winces with each misplaced press of fabric. He never complains, but none could deny the pain he endures on the nightly. The momentary sting ebbs away at the gritted teeth and tensing posture until relief resumes its rightful mantle upon him. Eirys has never seen such strength from someone so weary. Weary, she realizes, and lonely.
He needs tending to. In his body, yes, but even more so in his soul.
“It’s not, you know,” Oeden says suddenly. He still refuses to meet her eyes, but he picks up on her confusion nonetheless, for he continues, “a disappointment, I mean. That you’re here.”
Had he dwelt on her greeting this whole time?
Eirys slips her free hand into Oeden’s, clasping it with desperate compassion. You deserve deliverance, but I can only give you decency. “I’d sure hope not,” she teases, “but we both know you’d prefer my brother’s company.”
“Royan would have only worsened this,” Oeden reminds her. The Seal of Progression could do little to cease the spread of crystal. It could only comfort those who conformed to its whims - and Oeden had never been one to obey. “Besides, who knows what I would have seen, had anyone else done this…”
Ah, yes. The visions.
Eirys understands next to nothing of them, despite her supposed spirituality, but she does not doubt their existence any more than she doubts that their god remains trapped in some undiscovered vault. One touch of crystallized skin could send Oeden into an unconscious stupor. Foreseeing an unfortunate future from unprompted contact became an all-too-common occurrence.
“And with me?” Eirys entangles their fingers, drawing his hands up. “What do you see?”
Oeden’s breath hitches as she scales the goosebumps raising across his arm, but he does not deny her. His left hand rises to meet her, ore-crusted finger brushing against a freckled forehead. A breath. A moment. A hope.
“…Nothing.”
Oeden exhales like oxygen had always evaded him. His head slumps against hers. “Thank the Seals you’re safe, Eir.”
You’re safe for me, is what he means. She hopes he knows he’s safe with her, too.
They sit there, undone and unsure, in each other’s presence until time unwinds itself around them and Eirys realizes: the military, the clergy, the royalty - none of them need her. None of them need to. Oeden does. And a flustered, wistful part of herself believes she needs him too.
She always loathed her own powerlessness, but this powerlessness to resist him? She could live with that. She might even love it.
