Okay so I think it mentions that the gang rotates weeks that they cook dinner or something on the Edge (which is so domestic and I could probably go on about that for HOURS), but seeing as Astrid and the twins are all canonically terrible cooks, I kinda wonder who normally makes food? (Assuming Heather isn't staying)
Considering the fact that Hiccup is the son of the chief, I'm assuming he maybe doesn't do a whole lot of cooking?? (This might not be how it works, but I can see them not having to cook their own food.) Fishlegs' mom makes really good crabcakes, apparently, and I can totally see him being a pretty solid cook. Snotlout I can also see, mostly bc he has many hidden talents and they have to have more than one competent chef.
So I guess if I had to rank them from best to worst cook, it would go
Heather
Fishlegs
Snotlout
Hiccup
Tuffnut
Ruffnut
Astrid
(don't ask what informed the order that the twins go in, it's based purely on vibes and while Tuff doesn't necessarily have the 'better cook than Ruffnut' vibes, Ruff has the 'worse cook than Tuffnut' vibes for SURE)

I know we collectively agree that Hiccup isn’t romantically inclined, and his getting married and having kids didn’t make sense in the epilogue, but consider: Hiccup getting married for political reasons.
It’s a marriage of alliance, which is recognized both by him and his partner, and they enter it without expectations of romantic involvement. Since they’re now married, they live in the same castle, spend time together, and Hiccup finds he really likes his spouse. They’re funny, get along with his friends, and has the same interests and values. They both probably speak multiple languages. She understands why Hiccup is so dedicated to making the Wilderwest better, and holds similar views. She’s a good politician (her job after all, was to be an ambassador). Hiccup likes spending time with them, and the feeling is mutual. They’re not in love, they have their own lives, but they’re dedicated to each other and eventually decide to raise children. They teach their kids how to train hawks and hunt with dragons, riding, history, the Languages, and all the necessary skills of their world. They’re not in love and they’re happy together.
#pushing the aromantic hiccup agenda and also the queerplatonic agenda#as much as the idea of hiccup getting married was always a little off to me it was more the romantic angle#which I why I like the idea of a marriage of alliance and a partner who understands that#and then of course the montage of them being a good team and getting along#and going ‘yeah I like this person. I think this is the person I want to spend my life with.’#also a) a lot of arranged political marriages did have the foreign spouse function as an ambassador#b) polyglot hiccup is canon and I think it would be neat if his spouse was as well. it is a marriage alliance after all.#she isn’t from the small area of berm#(actually give all the Vikings regional accents. I think it’s neat)#c) she/they because I didn’t feel firmly about the partner’s gender and the nords were pretty gender diverse#anyway I think the partner would probably be fond of the library and admire hiccup got it open way back when#get along with Fishlegs and camicazi well enough#and enjoy dramatic stories of their adventures. maybe have some of her own#also: normalize people having their own lives outside their partners. hiccup and they are happy together but also have their own friends#oh and you know hiccup would be a great dad. he loves Stoick but he would so much be the dad he wished he had growing up#are the kids bio related? are they adopted (cast off and No Names)? who knows!#I could build in my head what hiccup’s spouse is like but I’ll leave it here#they exist as we construct them#httyd#httyd books#my post#book!hiccup#hiccup the third#hiccup horrendous haddock iii#book hiccup

How To Train Your Dragon
On The Backs of Dragons
Learning to Fly
Hela Horrendous Haddock was the strange daughter of the Chief of Hairy Hooligan Tribe and had the misfortune of being the most un-Viking-like Viking to be born on Berk. Small, weak, and clumsy, Hela doesn't fit in with what the tribe thinks a future Chief would be.
During one of many dragon attacks, Hela, determined to prove herself to her father, manages to sneak out and shoot down a dragon. However, due to the many, many, many instances in the past, no one believes her. Left to her own devices, she goes searching for it and finds herself unable to kill it, leading her down the most un-Viking-like path a Viking had ever walked before.
Or,
How To Train Your Dragon but Hiccup is Hela, Astrid is Aron, Toothless is adorable, and Stoick is just trying to connect to his daughter while running a village.

It is during the year of her fourth birthday that she learns a valuable lesson. It gets etched upon her heart with never-healing scars and tear tracks on her cheeks; out of sight but never out of mind. Of course, this lesson is taught by her father when he leaves in the middle of the night.

Luke Jade Skywalker
sun of the son
"She had always loved Anakin Skywalker. When he was the mirage of the desert dunes, sands of lies set to keep her safe. When he was a collection of war stories harshly sewn together by bloodied hands. When he had a heart singing the song of hatred, composed in the name of her death, metal hands bruising her skin, tearing her apart. She had loved him as a monster and man.
She had held him as he died a free man, alive once again. She saved him once, and now she's going to do it again."
The problem Luke Skywalker was currently facing was the fact that she didn't know she was Luke Skywalker. Instead, her mind is a mess of memories she doesn't remember living, and, unbeknownst to her, she is as far from home as one could get.
There are few things does know: she is a Jedi, and she would do anything to get back to where she was from, but as time goes by, Luke remembers and is faced with a mess of problems to solve that might save the galaxy.
Emphasis on might.
Luckily, she gets picked up by the Jedi Order. They, in turn, throw her into the front lines of war. The Clone Wars, to be precise.

Here we have Dagur's Family, his mother Iona and his sister Brenna as a child. As you can see Brenna and Dagur favor their mother. I imagine Oswald had red hair too, though faded from the years. All three of Oswald's children got his eyes. Heather got dark hair from her mother.
Iona was a fierce and well respected warrior of the tribe, coming for a prominent family. She came from a family where she had one brother (Harold/Herald) and two sisters.
When I picture Iona and Oswald's relationship, I dont picture one of deep love but practicality. Iona was a good match for the chief and she found fulfillment in bettering her tribe and assisting him in war. She was never the type to stand still. Even though they weren't in love, they respected each other deeply. There was never a whisper of infidelity on either party while Iona lived.
Iona loved her children fiercely, wanting only the best for them in the future. It was actually more from Iona than Oswald the children get their mental instability from. Iona was great at managing it, on the battlefield she always let loose. For those who don't know, Berserkers were a supposedly real type of warrior among vikings. They would drink some kind of medicine, likely a serious stimulant, and charge into the battle fields, destroying all in their wake. It was said in battle they couldn't even differentiate between friends and foes so even allies had to give them a wide berth.
Brenna and Dagur loved their mother in turn, but only Brenna remembers her with any clarity. Still, Dagur remembers the fierce-some warrior his mother was from stories and faint memories. In BB I always right Dagur having deep respect for women, which seems to be canon too. That was partly due to Brenna being a domineering presence when they were children. She forced him to do her chores a lot.
It's never been clear why Oswald became agreeable, but I have a theory in the BB universe. Brenna is older than Dagur, and when she was born, there were many talks about a potential spouse. Wars between the tribes make intermarriage difficult, so they were trying to think of a spouse on island. However it was difficult, the population of the Berserker tribe is pretty much all related, more or less, especially the more influential clans. Now, inbreeding was nowhere near as understood as it now, but people understand cause and effect. Blood being too close has long since a valid reason to dissolving marriages of aristocracy.
When tribes are at war, blood becomes concentrated leading to sickly babes and deformities. Oswald found that every potential, suitable partner for Brenna was too close in blood. Then he had an idea. Even though he was at war with other tribes, he respected their leaders as warriors and men. What if there was a way to conquer tribes without bloodshed? What about marriage?
Slowly he begins his journey and establishing peace with other tribes. Brenna is promised to young heir of Hysteria tribes, one of his chief rivals. This bring peace and boost of commerce and fresh blood into both tribes, alliance also helps with dragon problem.
Peace with the Hooligan tribe is equally important, so he's thrilled when Stoick has a daughter while he has a son. Considering the difficulties with Hiccup's birth and the slew of failed pregnancies prior to her it's unlikely Stoick would have another child. This is confirmed when Valka is taken and Stoick refuses to take another wife.
It's an added bonus because law would support Hiccup's right to inherit the chief mantle. In the beginning it looked difficult because Stoick wanted his girl to stay close and resolve the succession crisis by marrying her to his nephew, his next closest relation. Eventually, Oswald convinces him to marry Hiccup to Dagur.
This plan actually kind of works because four of his six grandchildren are chiefs in their own right; his three grandsons through Dagur and his granddaughter Silvi through Brenna. Each chief ruling over a powerful tribe.
Iona means both Dove and Island
Brenna means burning or torch, again referencing her hair

Miscellaneous How To Train Your Dragon Headcanons because my sister and I watched it again for the nth time:
Astrid and Hiccup were close when they were kids. They drifted when they were older, but Astrid still looked out for Hiccup occasionally tries to include him. It just has a tendency to go horribly wrong, as Hiccup’s social awkwardness and self deprecating humor make Astrid feel like he’s belittling her efforts.
Hiccup is stupidly wealthy and very spoiled. In the old days, paper and books were expensive. The whole villiage has to share one book on dragons but Hiccup has enough that he can waste it on his designs and doodles. I’ll bet Hiccup has accidentally flexed on his friends so many times, by pulling out paper or other expensive goods like its nothing.
The villiage of Berk takes care of its outcasts and weirdos. Valkra had a viewpoint that was considered crazy at best and outright dangerous at worst, but she was married to Stoick and well taken care of until she was stolen. Hiccup is an active threat to the village with how much trouble he can get into and all he gets is a scolding. He’s even apprentinced to the blacksmith! Speaking of: Gobber is missing several limbs and still respected. Bucket from the show is allowed to be Bucket. Yes, there’s still judgement and they are faaaar from perfect, but they do take care of their own.
The dragons from the first movie see Stoick as the Queen/alpha, not Toothless or Hiccup. Yes, they’re the ones who beat the Queen, but they also got really beat up in the process, and Toothless clearly submits to Stoick when he shows him Hiccup’s body and lets him pet him. The watching dragons interpreted this as Stoick being the new leader, which meant he has to deal with all of them until Hiccup woke up. Toothless doesn’t mind this, as it let him stay by hiccup’s side while he recovers, and he doesn’t have to be in charge. Yet.

Tides

5 years passed since you married Hiccup and had your daughter Katara.
You three with Toothless are a happy family, enjoying your life on Berk, which has become a Dragon Sanctuary.
Yes, life was good, but on the horizon, a new threat reached his hands for Berk and its dragons.
Who is this Drago Bludvist and what connection shares Hiccup with the mysterious masked Dragon Rider?
One thing is clear, you would protect your family from harm as only a mermaid could do!

Yes, I know I said I would post the next book Tides at 11.03.2023, but I finished already the first chapter and can’t wait anymore.
Mostly because I need your help with the second chapter, so please read the author’s note at the end too.

Chapter 1: A new threat
Well, the day started certainly lovely for you.
Your dear husband had to leave early your bed, so no morning sex, like you are used to for five years now because his father had to talk with him about something.
He took Toothless with him which in turn made your daughter not only sad that her daddy wasn’t home but also her dragon too.
Early on Katara decide that she only wanted to ride a Night Furry, since other dragons, didn’t charm her as much as the one she grow up with, so Hiccup said they would share Toothless.
Toothless loved Katara to death so he had no problem with that agreement.
So you had a grumpy five-year-old on your hands, who played more with her oatmeal and cooked fish than eating and no amount of begging helped.
Your brunette daughter got the Viking stubbornness from her father and her parental grandfather, which sometimes you wanted to throttle Hiccup and Stoick for it.
Then you saw how your husband took off with Toothless without a word to the sky.
You were more than pissed.
First no sex and now he got on a morning flight without you and Katara?
You so would hunt him down.
When you left with Katara the house, Stoick walked over to you, and well…the conversation you had with your father-in-law made you understand why your love did what he did.
You sighed loudly as you thought about it again.
You were in your mermaid form riding the waves you and Katara created. Your little girl made her name honor, she was a prodigy in waterbending. She rode the wave on an ice plate since she didn’t inherit a mermaid form.
This was actually pretty common for children of human and merpeople heritage as you have learned. They only inherit a few aspects of their merpeople parent.
In Katara’s case was it so, she couldn’t transform into a mermaid, but could live and breathe underwater, and as you stated before was a prodigy in waterbending. She could already heal with water which had taken you years to learn for example.
Since normally you were with Hiccup when he explored the land, you had a pretty good idea in which direction he would fly.
The plasma-blasted sea stacks before you were also a good indication.
Together you bend the water so you could reach the plateau. As you were on land again, you took out from your waterproof bag, one of Hiccup’s inventions, your clothes and got dressed.
Meanwhile, Katara walked away in search of her father and dragon.
“Daddy, Toothless!”, you heard her happy squeal. “There you are!”
“Hey, my little water princess!”, answered Hiccup just as happy to see her.
You heard Toothless coo and then the sounds of licking.
“Toothless, I washed my hair already, now I have to bend out your slobber!”, giggled your little girl.
The dragon laughed back.
You finally joined them and your heart was instantly filled with love.
Hiccup had Katara on his lap, hugging her softly to him, while Toothless gave her a gentle nuzzle.
Your husband now 23 years old was a vision and many, many women in your village were jealous of you. You admitted it made you always feel giddy.
“There you are, love.”, you called out, smiling. “Still didn’t fall off the edge of the world?”
“Afternoon, pearl. Where have you been?”
Toothless came over you to give you now a nuzzle and you scratched under his snout.
“Katara and I were searching for you and Toothless actually since somebody didn’t take us with them to their morning flight.”
Your husband winced at this, cuddling his daughter tighter to him, hiding behind her.
“Sorry, pearl…I just didn’t think and fly off.”
“Daddy, can I fly with Toothless a round?”, asked your daughter with her best puppy dog eyes.
“That’s actually a good idea.”, you agreed. “Your daddy and I have to talk about something important.”
“Aww, dad, got to you!”
“Of course, but I wanna hear your version.”
“All right, Katara princess, let your old daddy sit up so I can adjust Toothless saddle.”
“Daddy you are 23 that’s not old.”
But she did as he said. Toothless understood and waited for how Hiccup switched the saddle so that Katara could fly the dragon.
Not even a second later your daughter was on Toothless and both shoot to the sky.
“Stay near!”, you and Hiccup yelled to them.
“We will!”, she yelled back.
When you were sure that they were far enough you jumped your husband.
“Whoa!”, he shouted and it turned into a moan as you placed hot kisses on his neck and rubbed your pussy against his cock. “P-Pearl didn’t you want to talk?”
“Talk later, we didn’t get to fuck. Now out of your flying suit, Haddock!”, you growled playfully.
“As you wish Mrs. Haddock!”
You took care of your clothes, while Hiccup shimmed his pants down to his knees.
There was his cock.
Already leaking precum and standing tall and proud. Normally you would give your husband a blow job, but your daughter was still near you didn’t have time for much foreplay.
So you both got to the act.
You sitting on Hiccup’s lap while you rode him hard and fast and he rubbed your clit in times with his thrusts.
Your lips were locked in a messy kiss, moans, growls, and curses left you both as you reached together your high.
With a final stroke of his nibble finger, you come undone and felt formal how you splashed your liquid in his lab.
Hiccup needed three more thrusts till he filled your pussy with his seed, which made you purr pleased.
God, you loved it when he filled you up!
In the afterglow, you gave each other soft kisses, before you got dressed again.
“Now that that’s out the way. Wanna tell me your version of the talk you had with father?”, you asked.
You were leaning now on him, your head on his shoulder and his arm around your waist.
“Oh, you're gonna love this.”, he starts. “I wake up. The sun's shining. Terrible Terrors are singing on the rooftop. I pray whatever dad has to say to me doesn’t take long, so I can return to bed with you and I walk over to his house. I’m not even inside when he starts…”
He gets to his feet and puffs out his chest.
“... Son, we need to talk.”, he inmates Stoick on point.
You try not to laugh, but can’t help it anymore, when suddenly you hear Katara’s voice above you, imitating her father’s nasal voice: “Is it really that important, Dad? I've got a whole day of goofing off with [Y/N] and Katara to get started.”
You both look up and see your daughter and Toothless stationery in the air, giving you huge grins.
Hiccup shakes his head at you, you raise your hands to apologize for the laugh before he crosses his arms and gives his daughter a look.
“Okay, first of all, I don't sound like that, young miss. What is this character? And second... what is that thing you're doing with my shoulders?”
Katara lets Toothless land and jostles her shoulders in an awkward way.
You snort.
Your daughter was like your husband, good at imitating their father.
“A truly flattering impersonation. Anyway, he goes...”, he resuming Stoick's brogue. “You're the pride of Berk, son, and I couldn't be prouder...”
“Aw, thanks, Dad. I'm pretty impressed with myself, too.”, continues Katara with her imitation and makes even the weird little thing Hiccup does with his hands.
You and Toothless are dying of laughter.
Your husband sends you both disappointed looks, while Katara smiles brightly that she got you both to laugh.
“WHEN have I ever done that with my hands?”, he asks and does it.
“You just did.”, you point playfully out.
Toothless and Katara nod in agreement.
“Okay you all, stay serious now.”
With that, he picks Katara from Toothless and lets her sit on your lap. Toothless trots over you so you can lean on the dragon.
You three give your husband mock-serious looks.
It is the best he is going to get and he knows it so he goes back to his Stoick-Theater: “You're all grown up. You have a strong wife at your side and your little girl is the best of both of our worlds and since no chief could ask for a better successor, I've decided—“
“--TO MAKE YOU CHIEF! Oh, by the seven seas!”, shouts Katara. “Does this mean I’m now the heir of Berk?!”
You stroke her brunette hair. “Technically yes my summer rain, but I know your daddy and there is more.”
Hiccup signs and sits beside you down. He wraps an arm around your shoulder and caresses Katara’s chubby cheek.
“Well your grandpa wanted to say more, but I left.”, he admits. “All those speeches, and planning, and running the village... that's his thing. I’m happy with you, mommy, and Toothless, I don’t need anymore in life.”
Katara blinks at him.
“You really thought that father wouldn’t choose you as the successor?”, you ask rhetorically your husband. “Love, you united Vikings and dragons in peace after 300 years of blood sheet on both sides. You did the impossible. You have what it takes to be a great leader, I know so.”
“Thanks for the vote in confidence pearl…it’s just I know that I'm not my father... and I never met my mother... so, what does that make me?”
Now Katara reaches out with her hand to caress her father’s cheek.
“The best daddy in the world, my daddy.”
He smiles at her softly, giving her little hand a kiss.
“My heart and soul, my mate and husband, my forever.”, you add and kiss his cheek. “Toothless best friend in the world. You are a lot of things Hiccup and these things will make out of you an outstanding chief. Besides you have me, I will waterwhip at you before you make a bad decision.”
Hiccup can’t help himself and embrace you and your daughter in a tight hug and gives you both a lot of kisses.
You girls giggled at the attention.
“What would I do without you two?”, he musses, giving Katara a kiss on the forehead and you one on the lips. “I never want to know that.”
At this Toothless whines. You three laugh and shower together the dragon with affection.
“And of course, you bud!”, adds Hiccup, giving him a good scratch between his ear plates. “We are one family!”
This pleases the dragon and he purrs.
“Hey Haddocks!”, you hear suddenly a female voice calling out.
Stormfly with Astrid lands on the plateau, the blond Viking woman smiling brightly at you all.
“Aunty 'Strid!”, yells Katara exited.
You let her go and Katara runs up into the arms of her favorite aunt. Astrid twirls her around, then lets Katara sit on her hip.
“How you doing you little fish?”, ask Astrid your daughter playfully.
“Swimly!”, responds Katara like always.
The two laugh together.
Toothless and Stormfly greet each other, while you and Hiccup give the female dragon a good pet too.
“Hey 'Strid.”, you greet your dear friend. “What brings you here?”
With Katara still in her arms she walks up to you and your husband.
“I was taking Stormfly on a celebration flight since we won the Dragon Race today. Where were you two? If one of you doesn’t participate with Toothless on them, I will soon bet your record and be the Dragon Race Champion.”, she tells you jokingly.
Hiccup has wrapped an arm around your shoulder, while you lean on him, head on his shoulder.
“If it will go how my father wants, then we can’t participate anymore.”, Hiccup tells her drily.
“Oh no, what happened now?”
“Father has decided to make my dear husband his successor.”, you tell her. “This means both of us will be chief and chieftess.”
“What really?! That’s amazing guys!”, she congratulations you two, but seeing Hiccup’s unamused face and you shrugging your shoulders, she raises an eyebrow. “Your reactions tell me that both of you aren’t really thrilled.”
Katara gestures for you to take her from Astrid, which you do, and hug your daughter close to you.
“Well, Hiccup for sure doesn’t want the job.”
“Really? I mean, chief. What an honor. I'd be pretty excited.”, says Astrid to Hiccup.
He shakes his head and looks out into the distance.
“I'm not like you. You know exactly who you are. You always have. But... I'm still looking…”, your husband trails off.
Something about his voice bugs you and you follow his eyes.
You and Katara gasp at what you see, while you hear Astrid wondering: “What in the name of the Gods…?”
A distant smoke plume rises from a misty valley.
This can’t mean anything good!
Tumblr media
“Mommy, will daddy and aunty 'Strid be okay?”, asks your daughter worried.
You and she are back on Berk since whatever that smoke was meant nothing good and you would rather cook yourself like a fish than bring your daughter near danger.
Hiccup had agreed on full heartily.
So he and Astrid would check out what it was, while you brought your daughter to safety.
You squeezed her little hand as you walked up the port to the village.
“Your daddy and aunty are tough and they have Toothless and Stormfly with them. They will not let anything happen to them.”, you reassured her.
Still, you wished you could be with them, to give them backup with your waterbending, but your daughter was always yours and Hiccup’s top priority.
“I wish I could help.”, she tells you pouting.
“My summer rain you are still too young to go all Viking.”, you remind her. “And don’t say you are already a waterbending master and can perfectly protect yourself. You are still a guppy.”
She blows a raspberry.
You shake your head amused.
This Viking stubbornness!
Back in the village you decide to go to Stoick. Katara loves to hang out with her grandpa, maybe this will help her not to think about her father and her aunt.
You find your father-in-law in the blacksmith stall with Gobber, who is practicing his job as Berk dragon dentist.
As Katara sees her grandpa, she lets go of your hand and runs towards him.
“Grandpa!”
“My little girl!”
You smile softly at how Stoick takes her loving in his arms, twirling her around, and then lets Katara sit on his broad shoulders.
“Where were you 'Tara? You old grandpa missed you.”
“I and mommy were with daddy. Hi uncle Gobber!”
She waves at the blacksmith/dentist, who waves back at her.
“Hello lassie, always our little sunshine.”
Katara giggles cutely.
“Afternoon Father, Gobber.”, you greet them.
“Ah there you are, lass.”, says Stoick to you. “Did you talk with Hiccup?”
“I did. Father, I can see Hiccup as chief, but he can’t see himself as such. Do you really want to force him?”, you want to know.
“That’s what I am saying.”, agrees Gobber with you. “The boy is quite happy with how things are.  You can still delay your retirement.”
Stoick adjusts Katara on his shoulders and gives you two a stern look: “Oh, he's ready. You'll both see.”
Before you can say anything the sudden excitement of the crowd before Goober stall heralds Hiccup and Astrid's return. They touch down on Toothless and Stormfly.
“Haha! There he is! Huh? The pride of Berk!”, calls Stoick out to your husband.
“Who finally decided to show up for work. Yay!”, adds Gobber dry.
“Sorry. Got held up.”
The look in your husband’s eyes makes your mermaid instincts go haywire.
Something bad happened.
“Hiccup?”
He gives your cheek a kiss before he turns to his father: “Hey, Dad, could I have a word?”
“Something you're itching to tell me?”
“Not quite the itch you're thinking of, but yes.”
Your father-in-law hands Katara back to you, who looks in confusion from her father to her grandfather, she is feeling it too, that something is off and hands Hiccup an apron and guides him to the front desk.
You both watch on how Hiccup tries to talk with Stoick, while Stoick tries to teach him the duties of a chief.
It would be funny if it weren’t for your bad feeling.
“But, seriously, I really need to tell you about this new land we came across.”, your husband begs his father formally.
“Another one?!”, wonders Gobber.
Fishlegs walks in, followed by the Twins and Snotlout.
“Any new dragons?”, ask Fishlegs, always the dragon enthusiast.
“We didn't stick around to find out. These folks weren't particularly friendly.”, explains Hiccup.
“Oh, really? Your Night Fury and Deadly Nadder didn't bring them cheering to the rooftops?”, said Gobber sarcastically.
“No, this was different. Not the standard run-for-the-hills hoo-ha I've come to enjoy. These guys were trappers. Dragon trappers.”
“What?”, you shout surprised and hug Katara closer, who hugs you back.
Bad feeling indeed!
“You should've seen their fort. All were blown apart and stuck in giant spikes of ice. It was weird. It didn’t look like when you and Katara bend with ice.”, tells Astrid.
“So we can exclude that merpeople are behind this.”, you conclude.
“I've never seen anything like it.”, say’s your husband. “And worst of all, they thought we did it!”
“Y'know, you all are gonna get yourselves in SERIOUS trouble one of these days. Not everyone appreciates this way of life.”, warns you Gobber.
“Gobber's right, son.”, agrees Stoick. “Best we keep to our own. Besides, you and [Y/N] have more important uses for your time –“
And Stoick pulls a lever, starting the saw up.
“Once we make the big announcement!”
Hiccup pulls the lever, shutting the saw down.
“They are building a dragon army.”
Silence fills the stall. Vikings exchange worried glances. Katara whippers and you humm in comfort for her.
“Or at least the guy they work for is. Dargo Bloody Fist or something.”
Stoick's eyes widen. He turns to Gobber, with growing alarm.
“I'll bloody his fist with my face if he tries to take my dragon!”, promises Tuffnut.
You would have snorted at it if you weren’t more occupied calming your daughter down.
“Or mine.”, adds Ruffnut.
“You're such a moron.”, insults Tuffnut his sister.
Ruffnut admires, Fishlegs and Snotlout to try to turn it positive, but she just gags. You still are floored by the fact that both boys fight over her.
Well, you are happily married, and Astrid is actually dating one of your friends. The same friend who danced with her at your wedding.
So Ruffnut was the only available girl your age for them.
Stoick grabs Hiccup by the shoulders, wide-eyed and intense.
“Bludvist? Drago Bludvist?”, ask your father-in-law to clarify.
“Uh, yeah. Wait. You know him?”
Tumblr media
Sorry for the cliffhanger, but here is my question.
What should we do with our child Katara?
Should Stoick tell us the Reader to bring her to her other grandparents or should Katara stay with Astrid parents, while Reader Hiccup and Astrid go together to Eret again?
Or would you do something different?
Tell me what you as a parent would decide in the comments!
The second chapter comes then out when I know how to write it thanks to your help.
So you have to wait probably for a bit ^^U
Thank you already for your help and we will see us next chapter :D

Edge of the Sky (1) - In Which Hiccup Meets his Fate
Ao3
The Miraculous - Gems created to tether the soul of a human to that of a god. Some may consider this a curse, and others a blessing.
Hiccup Haddock, son of the Jarl of Whiterun, found the Circlet of Night and was connected to the king of Dragons, staking his claim as Dragonborn. Marinette Dupain-Cheng, daughter of the newly appointed High King of Skyrim, found the Earrings of Creation. Astrid Hofferson, a Viking from a frozen world, found the Necklace of Flight and walked into a world not so different from her own. And Adrien Agreste, an intern from Paris, found the Ring of Destruction and was flung through time and space to a land that made no sense to him at all. These four souls, separated by time and distance, are brought together by the gods to fight a war on many fronts.
A Miraculous Ladybug and How to Train Your Dragon crossover, in the setting of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
Hi! I may be a familiar face to many, and new to many more. I had been working on a Skyrim AU idea for both HTTYD and Miraculous for a few years now. I had art and chunks of both versions plotted out, but never could decide which one I wanted to do more, since they were both hefty but had similar plots. So I decided to combine them. I rarely do crossovers, and never with three fandoms. I apologize if it’s a little jarring, but I hope you still enjoy it. My goal is to create a story that requires no deep knowledge of any one of the three fandoms I’m exploring. I will hold your hand as we go, and hopefully everything will make sense. Feel free to ask questions, as that will help me develop the story more!

“Dovahkiin.”
Hiccup’s eyes shot open, startled awake by an ancient, booming voice for the fourth time this week. Just like every time, it was at the break of dawn.
“Even on my day off?” He lamented.
Well, if there ever was a day to investigate, it was today.
Hiccup dressed and descended from his room in Dragonsreach, the palace of the Jarl of Whiterun. His father, Stoick, was the Jarl of the whole Hold of Whiterun. And so what was the 16-year-old son of the Jarl to do?
Be an apprentice to the Blacksmith, apparently.
Yes, since the day Hiccup could work, he was busy helping his mentor at the Skyforge. It was fulfilling work, if not monotonous, and he relished his days off.
Days like today.
“Son! You’re awake early!” Said Stoick with a boom. “I thought you’d sleep until midday!”
“Yeah…uh, I have an errand to run, so I thought I’d get an early start.”
“An errand? What would you possibly need? Where to?”
“Uh…Riverwood. And nothing special, just…something that got waylaid there.”
“At least come eat breakfast with me, lad.”
Hiccup was not one to argue with his father, especially when the man was able to pick him up with one hand and throw him across the Cloud District. He had a feeling there was more to come. His father often preferred to handle news over meals.
Hiccup obediently took his seat as the bread, fruits, and porridge were served.
“I’ve received news from Solitude.”
Hiccup sat up straight. “About the successor to High King Torygg?”
“Yes.”
“I thought it was settled on his wife, Elisif? At least until his son is old enough.”
“I thought so too. His son Oleg was sent to Cyrodiil for his own safety in the wake of the attack. Apparently, Torygg had another son before he was married. Elisif mentioned him to the Moot, as a precaution, and they voted to elect him to the throne until Oleg is old enough.”
Hiccup blinked. “They elected an illegitimate heir over Elisif?”
“That’s what I wondered as well. According to Spitelout, it was the Thalmor that preferred the man over Elisif. After all, she’s quite distraught over Torygg.”
“I’m not surprised. Any idea what this new king is like?”
“Rumor is that he is a baker from Helgen. What’s more, he’s married to an albino dark elf and has a young daughter.”
“Oh. Good for him,” Hiccup shrugged as he drank his canis root tea.
“I can’t imagine people respecting his authority. So, at the end of this week, we will be going to Solitude to meet him and show our support. I will need you on your utmost behavior, understand?”
“Yes dad.”
“Good good. So, what’s this errand you have to run?”
Hiccup internally groaned. He had hoped his father wouldn’t ask.
Stoick the Vast. He didn’t get his name without reason. The man was mountainous, and a good foot or two taller than most Nords. Hiccup, on the other hand, was the runt of the entire Hold. Maybe even all of Tamriel. Stoick wanted a proud warrior son, but instead was gifted with a toothpick. As such, Stoick was wary of his son going out and doing anything reckless. But Hiccup wanted to do whatever he could to make his father proud.
It was a vicious cycle.
“It’s…you know how you’re always telling me those little tasks you give me will help build character? It’s like that.”
Stoick frowned. “This better not be a troll hunting errand. I thought we discussed that those beasts are too strong for you!”
“No trolls! No fighting at all…if I can help it. I’m just…looking for something.”
“What kind of something?”
How to explain? ‘Dad, I’ve been seeing a Nordic burial mound in my dreams and keep hearing this booming voice calling to me.’ That certainly wouldn’t go over as well as he’d hope. “I’m looking for information. Does the word ‘Dovahkiin’ mean anything to you?”
“Dovahkiin.” The same voice that always pulled him from his dreams echoed in his mind, clear as day in his waking life. He’d never heard it while awake, though he had never said the word aloud either. No one else seemed to hear it.
Stoick gave a little chuckle. “Now I know you’ve been spending too much time in the forge. Gobber loves the Tale of the Dragonborn. I don’t know all that much about it, though.”
“It’s a folktale,” said Spitelout, the Steward to Stoick. “‘Dovahkiin’ is the ancient word for Dragonborn. Dating back to the age when Dragons roamed Skyrim. The Dragonborn can speak the language of the dragons, the Thu’um.”
“I’ve heard that word before. Thu’um.”
“You’ve probably heard it in regards to the death of High King Torygg. It’s also called a shout. It’s how Drago Bludvist killed Torygg. He used his voice, like a dragon would, and killed him.”
Hiccup frowned. Killing someone by shouting at them? That made little to no sense. “So if the Dragonborn can do this…is Drago a Dragonborn?”
Stoick chuckled with a shake of his head. “Don’t think about it too much, lad. The Dragonborn is a legend.”
“But the shout—“
“No one knows how Drago learned to shout. He never explained. And now, since escaping the empire’s imprisonment, he stays holed up in Windhelm.”
“The best place for him!” Spitelout shouted. “Let he and his lot rot in that frozen wasteland!”
“If you want to hear the legend of the Dragonborn, I’d ask Gobber. He’s the best orator in town.” Stoick wiped his beard. “What does the Dragonborn have to do with your errand?”
Now he had to lie. He had hoped being vague would be enough, but now he had to lie to his father’s face. “Just…taking the initiative to learn more about our history. The word ‘Dovahkiin’ was mentioned in some text, and I was unfamiliar with it. I was going to see if the trader in Riverwood had any books on it…since I already asked Belathor.”
“Dovahkiin!” The ethereal voice echoed in his mind again.
“Ah, good lad. Always wise to learn our traditions. Do you want your cousin to go with you?”
“Oh, no no, I’m fine. I’ll take a shield and knife from Gobber’s.”
“You’ll take your horse?”
“Of course! Of course!”
“Very well. I can’t say I’m fond of you leaving the city in the wake of current events, but Riverwood isn’t far. As long as you stay on the main road and return as soon as possible, I will permit your leave.”
“Thank you, dad.”
After breakfast, Hiccup went out to the stairs outside of Dragonsreach. From there, he could see all the fields that surrounded the city, out to where the mountains began. Whiterun stood like a beacon in the middle of it all, with nothing but high walls to protect it. It was nothing like the mountainside Windhelm, or Solitude that was built upon a natural arch. But it was home.
He closed his eyes and listened, doing his best to block out the chatter from the people below.
“Dovahkiin,” he said softly.
“Dovahkiin!” His summoner responded.
He felt it then. He felt the call from a direction, south. Actually towards Riverwood. The city name had been a ruse to his father, but it might turn out to be where he went after all.
Now with a direction in mind, Hiccup headed over to the Skyforge, the official forge of the Companions.
“Morning lad!”
“Good morning Severio!”
“Morning Hiccup! Is Gobber done with my ax yet?”
“He should finish today, Olfrid!”
“Where are you going so early, boy?”
“Morning Fralia! Just out and about!”
The trip to Jorrvaskr was familiar and could be carved out of the stone by now. When Gobber spotted him, he laughed.
“Did you forget you had the day off, lad?”
“No, I just came to borrow a shield and a dagger.”
Gobber gave a little nod and went to his inventory. “Off on some adventure, I bet.”
“Something like that. My father said you're a fan of the Tale of the Dragonborn?”
Gobber immediately stopped rooting around and broke into song, swinging the ax that was in his hand.
“Our hero, our hero, claims a warrior’s heart!
I tell you, I tell you, the Dragonborn comes!”
Hiccup backed away from the scene in an effort to avoid getting hit.
“With a voice wielding power of the ancient nord arts!
Believe, believe, the Dragonborn comes!
It's an end to the evil of all Skyrim's foes!
Beware, beware, the Dragonborn comes!
For the darkness has passed, and the legend yet grows!
You'll know, you'll know, the Dragonborn’s come!”
Several townsfolk and members of the Companions gathered around the Skyforge when they heard the ruckus Gobber was making. He was so loud, even Heimskr stopped his preaching and stared across the district.
Hiccup regretted bringing the topic up.
“Dovahkiin, Dovahkiin!
With a bindle of cheese!
For the wine, for the food,
May the guard’s horses be drunk!”
This new verse brought many protests from the townsfolk.
“That’s not how it goes!”
“Are you trying to bring the wrath of the divines on the town?!”
He yelled right back at them. “Alright, then you sing it!”
There were some nonsensical mutters before people wandered away.
“Yeah! That’s what I thought!”
Hiccup slowly peeled his hand off his face. “What was that?”
“You wanted the Tale of the Dragonborn, so I sang it. Though you should get Luka to perform it next time he’s in town. He’s got the voice of an angel.”
“So…it’s a song.”
“Aye. Though, based on a true story. Legend tells of a great warrior called the Dragonborn—“
“I got that.”
“—who had the gift to speak with the dragons. Anyone can learn how to shout, as you heard about with Drago.”
“Right.”
“But it’s not easy. There’s a reason why no one but the Greybeards know how to do it.”
“Wait, Greybeards? Who are they?” Hiccup asked. “Are they how Drago learned to shout?”
“That’s the theory! Though no one can get confirmation. The Greybeards live up on High Hrothgar, on the Throat of the World. They’re completely removed from this world. So no one can talk to them.”
“Okay, so…the Greybeards figured out a way to learn how to shout like a dragon?”
“Exactly! Through centuries of study, and long days of practice, they are able to use a shout. But the Dragonborn, he can learn it immediately.”
“So…he’s just smart?”
“You’re missing the point, lad.”
“It’s all so confusing! What is a shout anyway? How did Drago kill a man with his voice? That’s the thing I keep getting caught up on.”
“Aye, that would be confusing if you think it’s a normal holler. But it’s not. The Thu’um, the voice of a dragon, is said to carry absolute authority. So much so, the very nature around the dragon bends to its will. The dragon yells ‘fire’ and fire comes from his mouth. He yells ‘stop’ and time itself comes to a standstill around him.”
“Oh…that makes more sense then. So Drago yelled ‘death’ at Torygg?”
“Not according to witnesses. The shout that Drago used threw Torygg across the room and he slammed him into a wall. It’s said that every bone in his body was shattered.”
“That’s…that’s scary to think someone alive right now can do that.”
Gobber went back to rummaging in the equipment trunk. “My favorite tale of the Dragonborn is when the city of Winterhold, before it fell into the sea, was attacked by a giant frost troll. The Dragonborn said, ‘you like ice? I’ll show you ice!’ and he turned the troll into solid ice. A single iron arrow hit it and it fell to pieces.”
“I think you made that up.”
“I embellished it, but it’s true!”
“So what happened to the Dragonborn? Was it just one guy?”
“I don’t know how many there were, but I would guess there was more than one. The stories span thousands of years. As for what happened? The last one died, and so did the dragons. So the divines didn’t pick a new one.”
Hiccup couldn’t ask the question he wanted. ‘If the voice in my dreams is calling for the Dragonborn, does that mean the dragons are coming back?’
If he did ask, he might get a few more days off, but strict supervision on top of it.
He held up a banded iron shield and a steel dagger. “Why do you ask, lad?”
Hiccup blanched. “Don’t you have a shield that isn’t so heavy?”
Gobber rifled again and pulled out a hide shield.
“How about one that doesn’t suck?”
Gobber practically frisbeed the steel shield at him and pointed. “Now be on your way!”
“Thanks Gobber! See you later!”
Finally, he was free. He wasn’t the kind to leave the city very often. Occasionally, he’d go see the Khajit caravan outside the gates. But outside the walls of Whiterun, Skyrim was a dangerous place.
There was a giant camp not too far from the gate and he’d heard tales from the guards about travelers getting too close and being punted into Sovngarde.
He merrily went to the stables and obtained his horse, a black stallion named Thump.
The joke here is when horses and cows get hiccups, it’s called thumps instead.
Now, the courageous adventurer was off to Riverwood to face his destiny…or at least attempt to learn more about it.
The safest route was the stone road. It wasn’t perfect, as many of Skyrim's most hostile would wait at the edges for the richest or tastiest. But taking the road kept you from wandering over a Spriggan clearing or Falmer cave.
It was a pleasant summer day. Summer in Whiterun meant it was warm enough to not have to bundle in furs, and farmers could actually get a decent harvest of wheat, leeks, and potatoes. The sun was out, the sky was blue, and the elk frolicked through the tall grass.
The road to Riverwood was sandwiched between two mountains, along the edge of a fast flowing river. Hiccup kept Thump at a steady pace until the village was in sight.
Riverwood had all the essentials in a Skyrim town. A logging mill on the river, a blacksmith, the tavern, and of course the trader.
Hiccup hitched his horse outside of the Sleeping Giant Inn, waved greetings to the quiet townsfolk before going in.
A young woman with black hair swept around the hearth in the middle of the inn. She glanced at him briefly. “Welcome,” she said rather tersely. “What can I do for you, Stranger?”
Hiccup tilted his head slightly at the girl. She must have been two or three years younger than him and she was working the tavern? “Uh, not to bother you, Miss. But I was just looking for information.”
“I’ll tell you what I know. Or direct you to someone who can help.”
“Does there happen to be a Nordic Burial mound nearby?”
“You must mean Bleak Falls Barrow? It’s a little ways North from here, across the river. There’s a path that leads right up to it. But watch out for wolves on the road…and also bandits. The Barrow is mostly a bandit haven these days. Same bandits that robbed the trader I suppose.”
“What did they take?”
“Something about a Golden Dragon Claw. A trophy of his that he always had on display. Why do you ask?”
“I…was just…” he cleared his throat. “My business is my own.”
“Fine. So if anyone comes looking when you’ve been missing for a week, I don’t know anything.”
“I mean…hopefully that won’t be a problem? Thank you for the information, Miss…?”
“Kagami.”
“Kagami. If it’s not too much…do you own this inn?”
She scowled at him. “Does it look like I’m old enough to own an inn?”
“Sorry, right right…I just…there’s no one else in here.”
“I run the inn for my mother. She’s gone blind. But we don’t often have visitors, so it isn’t very hard work.”
“Oh! Well, good for you. Um…” he started rummaging around in his pockets for money.
“Please don’t bother. If you wish to buy some food or a room, I will accept your gold. Else, keep it.”
Hiccup ended up buying some food for the road and leaving a generous tip before heading in the direction Kagami gave.
The path winded up the mountain, becoming snowier and windier the higher he climbed.
He came around the bend of the mountainside and saw it. The stacking layers of stairs, the towering, crumbling arches, the huge black door. All the things he had seen in his dreams. This was it, for sure.
What he wasn’t prepared for, however, were the two bandits standing outside, guarding the place. How was he supposed to get in now?
If there was one thing he knew about bandits, it’s that they weren’t exactly smart. He led his horse back down around the bend and opted not to tether it.
“If you get in trouble, run back to Riverwood. I’ll find you.”
Thump, being a horse, merely mosied over to a snowberry bush and began to eat.
“Good enough.”
He slowly crept up the path, staying close to the mountain wall to stay out of sight of the bandits. The front of the barrow faced the mountain, and so the bandits weren’t looking there, only off to the two sides.
He took up a small rock and waited patiently. When the bandits had their backs to each other, he threw the rock at the smaller of the two.
It hit him in the head, and made him yelp. “Hey! Who threw that?”
Hiccup stayed out of sight behind a pile of rubble, where there was a tiny space through which he could see.
“You threw that, didn’t you, you oaf?!”
“I didn’t throw nothin! I bet it fell from up there!” He pointed at the ancient arches above.
“Fell my ass! It hit me square on me head, it did! I betcha threw it!”
“You callin’ me a liar?”
“I ain’t callin’ ya for dinner!”
And just like Hiccup had hoped, the two started brawling.
Quickly, he stole from his hiding spot and darted to the nearest column. When he wasn’t spotted, he went to the next, and the next, until he reached the door, unnoticed.
Thankfully, the bandits had the door propped open ever so slightly, and Hiccup, in his small frame, was able to squeeze inside.
Inside, a large part of the ceiling had collapsed, making more rubble to hide behind. The room was bigger than the grand hall in Dragonsreach, all carved out of mossy stone and illuminated by candles and filtered sunlight. Besides arches for support, there wasn’t much other cover. On the other side of the hall, he saw a campfire, with three more bandits around. And beyond them was the door to the next part of the barrow.
“Great,” he thought to himself.
Being quick to hide behind the rubble, he watched and planned his next move.
As he adjusted his stance, he stepped on something squishy. The corpse of a skeever, a rat easily the size of a dog.
“Ew.”
Looking around the room, he could see a couple more. Where had they come from?
There. A hole in the wall up on a ledge. If he could find a way there…
He had a gross idea, but there was no other way. He couldn’t take these three bandits on. He couldn’t even take one!
As quietly as possible, he skinned the skeever and made a grotesque cape from its hide. Luckily, he was the size of a large skeever, or this wouldn’t work. He donned the cape and scuttled over the far side of the room. There was a stone pillar he had to clamor up, but if he did it quickly and quietly enough—
“What in the name of Talos is that?!” A female bandit shrieked.
He didn’t stop. He kept going. He just had to reach the hole!
“Another damned skeever! They just keep coming!”
An arrow whizzed by, plinking against the wall.
“Don’t waste your arrows if it’s not attacking!” Someone else shouted.
That gave Hiccup enough time to leap into the hole and out of sight.
So far, so good. He only hoped this place had a back door to leave or he was in trouble when he left.
The hole was formed by tree roots, which gave him extra cover. It led to a hallway alight with huge braziers. Again, there were skeever carcasses, and even a dead bandit. The path was quiet for now, so he climbed down and walked quickly, staying close to the wall. The hall snaked around, descending further and further into the earth.
When he found another guard, there was another partially collapsed arch that he could squeeze through and avoid them.
Then, he found a new type of obstacle.
A lever and a portcullis. A series of podiums on dais. A puzzle.
And three dead bandits covered in little darts, no doubt, poisoned.
Above the portcullis, the same images on the podiums were visible. The middle one had fallen, and laid on the floor, still visible at least.
From left to right, the pictures were of a snake, another snake, and a whale.
The podiums were turned to three eagles.
Hiccup had to stop and contemplate the sheer stupidity of these bandits.
He turned the podiums to match the images on the door, and then, with heightened blood pressure, he pulled the lever.
When the portcullis opened and he was not impaled with darts, he had to let out a relieved chuckle.
On the other side of the door, there was a beautiful table with three vials of healing potions, a lesser soul gem, and an ancient Nordic bow and a dozen arrows on it.
He hadn’t come here looking for treasure, but he wasn’t about to pass it up! Next to the table was also a chest with a handful of gold coins.
Not bad!
Once his treasure was secured in his bag, he spotted a spiral staircase going down further into the dungeon.
“Dovahkiin,” he said quietly.
“Dovahkiin!” The voice was now unbearable, rattling him to the core and nearly knocking him off his feet.
No going back now.
At the bottom of the stairs, the room was dark and dank, with lots of cobwebs in the corners. The webs got worse and more thick as the hall went on.
“Not a frostbite spider, not a frostbite spider…” Hiccup chanted as he carried on.
At the end of the hall, a door led to a large open room. He peered inside and his heart got caught in his throat. The biggest frostbite spider he had ever seen was hanging from the ceiling. It was easily the size of the dining room table in the great hall.
“Shit.”
This was going to be harder to solve. He almost wished the bandits were here instead.
But! He had just acquired a new bow!
Taking a vantage point from the doorway, Hiccup took aim and shot the spider in the thorax, making it writhe and spit its poison everywhere.
He didn’t stop. He shot arrow after arrow, missing half the time, at the foul creature until it stopped squirming and laid on its back, its legs curled up.
“I am never dungeon delving again. Not if there’s more spiders!” He shivered.
Moving into the room, he saw a few human sized egg sacs, one guess at what they held.
By the door, a partially desiccated dark elf laid with an arm outstretched. In it was a golden statue, made to look like the hand of a dragon with three claws, likely the one stolen from the Riverwood trader. Hiccup pried it out of the bandit’s hand, with the intention of returning it, and moved on, hoping that his adventure was coming to an end.
It didn’t get any more pleasant. The next leg of the journey held the crypt; walls lined with skeletons and mummified remains of his ancestors.
“They’re all dead, Hiccup.” He whispered as his heart thundered in his chest.
One footstep he took gave way underneath him, and he heard the sound of a hinge creaking. He couldn’t even consider what it meant before he was smacked fully with a spiked grate. The spikes tore into his skin and ripped painfully back out, puncturing his arm, side, and leg.
He was thrown several feet backwards, skittering on his ass before he came to a stop, limbs akimbo and stunned. All the air had been knocked out of him, and he struggled to breathe, making sounds like a dying animal. His vision blurred from the impact as he laid on the ground, unable to do anything else.
Then the pain set in. A burning, throbbing pain all down his left side.
He peeled his eye open, watching his clothing rapidly turning red. This was not good. He had to do something, but what? He had gotten some healing potions earlier in the dungeon, right? He fumbled around in his bag as his pulse thundered in his ears. He was growing tired very quickly. He then grabbed a muted red vial, the color for healing he had grown accustomed to seeing at the healer's hut from all the blacksmith accidents over the years. He downed it and felt the liquid trickle down his throat and into his stomach. Within seconds, his vision flashed yellow and his strength returned. His puncture wounds healed for the most part. Now they were simply scratches. He considered taking another potion, but opted against it in case he got hurt again. He’d have to have Gothi look at his wounds when he returned. And he was going to return, damnit!
Getting back up on his feet, Hiccup could now clearly see the round stone on the ground that had triggered the trap.
“Note to self, watch out for pressure plates.”
The next trap he encountered was easier. A set of three swinging pendulum blades. This was just a test of timing.
More mummified remains, and more feelings of uneasiness. Some of these remains were standing upright, with swords in hand, almost seemingly ready to spring to life and protect the barrow.
Hiccup elected to stay quiet and move quickly.
As he wandered over a waterfall and even a full cave, he wondered if the barrow filled out the entirety of the mountain. How long had it taken his ancestors to build this place? Why had no one gone in? Certainly if someone like him could make it this far with only a few scratches, then surely some stronger adventurers could clean it out. What a much more defensible fortress than Dragonsreach! There was so much space here too! They could have a whole city!
The hundreds of dead bodies might pose a problem though.
In the inner sanctum, Hiccup found the barrow in better repair, less ruins and more ancient architecture. And more stone coffins. After a while, he stopped appreciating the work that went into building such a mausoleum, and instead wondered where all these corpses came from. It was easily a city’s worth, but most were buried in armor and weapons. Were these all warriors killed in battle? Or just buried to look like it?
Maybe he really should read those books he told his father he read.
Finally, he came to a dead end. A wide, arched hallway, with murals carved into the walls. Each mural depicted what looked like a burial. At the end of it all was a circular carving.
It had three ebony rings, each inlaid with an ivory pendant. And like the podium at the beginning of the dungeon, these pendants featured animals.
In the center was another circle, with three holes in it.
Was this what he came for? Surely not. A door perhaps? But how to open it?
The three holes were not aligned. The middle was higher than the others.
“The claw!” He nearly shouted.
Indeed, when he took the dragon claw out and inserted it, the claws inserted perfectly in the holes. But as he tried to turn it, nothing happened.
“Another puzzle,” he lamented.
Though he needn’t have fretted. Turning the claw over in his hands to study it, he found matching images engraved in the palm.
Moth. Eagle. Dragon.
He turned the rings on the door, excited that he could see the matching images.
Now when he inserted the claw, it turned and clicked into place!
The whole door shuttered, and the circular apparatus slid away and revealed a staircase beyond.
The air was surprisingly fresh compared to where he had been, and he could hear running water.
He was in another cave. A waterfall broke through the rock on the left and carved out a trench along the floor, but a bridge crossed it and led up to a looming feature. It looked like a curved wall, with old words on it. In front of it was another stone coffin, and an ancient chest.
This felt like the place he needed to be. This was where the voice had been leading him.
Cautiously, he approached the wall, and watched as it reacted to his presence. Three words in a language he did not recognize glowed, and beckoned him closer. Though he could not read it, he understood.
Fus.
What did it mean?
The chest, now behind him, flung open, its lid banging loudly on the floor and disturbing the bats above.
Hiccup looked inside, and saw a pile of ancient golden coins, jewels, and on top of it all, a golden circlet with a black stone.
“Dovahkiin,” the circlet said, pulsing with each syllable.
Hiccup didn’t even think about grabbing it. His body acted on its own, reaching in with both hands to take hold of the crown. It was beautifully crafted, and despite moldering for how many thousands of years, it was polished to a near mirror shine. It buzzed in his hands like a trapped insect, and sent tingles up and down his spine. He was compelled, and obeyed.
Once the circlet was on his head, he felt immense power rush through him, down to the tips of his toes. It was so much, he blacked out.
The place he was conscious of next had to be a dreamscape. It was black, with a rolling fog surrounding him. His body felt impossibly heavy, and he was unable to do anything except sit as a creature emerged from the fog before him.
It was a dragon, but not what he imagined one would look like. It had a soft, friendly face, like a salamander. Instead of twisting horns, it had two earflaps. Its claws didn’t look any less deadly, though.
“So, Dovahkiin, you have finally decided to answer my call.” It spoke with a deep lulling voice, but didn’t move its mouth.
“You were the one that called me?”
“Yes,” the dragon circled him. “I have been calling for the Dovahkiin for a long time. Two centuries at least. It seems you finally heard me.”
“Well, I only started hearing you call last week. But, you really think I’m this…Dragonborn person?”
“I do not think, I know.”
“But…Gobber said they’re supposed to be some ultimate authority or proud warrior. Look at me! I’m…I’m nothing.”
“This Gobber is correct. As Dragonborn, you will learn the way of the voice as you grow. It matters little what you look like. The voice brings power and authority.”
Hiccup let that digest. It would be nice to have people listen to him for once.
“The people of Tamriel will look to you for guidance as an unbiased opinion. You will find yourself in the middle of many upcoming wars, as a voice of reason.”
“Wars? What wars?”
“Is there no conflict in your time?”
“No, there’s…well, actually…the High King was just killed…but they appointed a new king. It’s…it should be all over, right?”
“I have seen glimpses of what is to come. A war between men. A war between men and Dragons. A war between the arcane and nature. A war among families. A war among friends. And a war among life and death itself. They will all need your guidance.”
“What if I just don’t tell anyone? Surely people can’t just assume I’m the Dragonborn…unless I get a giant sign on my back or start glowing…”
“It matters little. There are those who are attuned to the changes in nature I am associated with. They are sensing your awakening now. Doubtless, the world will know tomorrow.”
“Great. And I bet a hundred people are going to come at me with swords to try to kill me…or at least to take this circlet. The last thing my father needs is me bringing conflict to his front porch.”
“The world will know the Dragonborn has returned, but not who he is. It will be up to you to stand up when the time is right. And you will. I have seen it in you.”
“How could you possibly know that? Who are you anyway?”
“I have been called many names. Each Kingdom in Tamriel has a name for me. My original name has been forgotten over the years. I will respond to the name you give me.”
Hiccup blanched. “Oh, you don’t want me to do that. I’m terrible at naming things.”
“You will have time to think on it. What do your people call you?”
“Hiccup. My full name is Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, son of Jarl Stoick of Whiterun, but that’s a bit of a mouthful.”
“The son of a Jarl? How intriguing!” The dragon opened its mouth then, in a mock parody of a human smile, though it had no teeth.
“You’re toothless.” Hiccup stated in shock. It was more of a question, but not the way he said it.
“My name is now Toothless,” the dragon nodded sagely.
“No! No no, it’s not! Ohhh let me pick something else!”
The dragon came close, the heat from its nostrils fanning Hiccup’s hair. “It is the name my soulmate has given me, why would I not like it?”
“Because it’s dumb! I should have–” he stopped. “Wait, soulmate?”
The dragon nodded. “The circlet you wear binds a human soul to that of a god. We are now connected, in this world, and the next.” He leaned in and touched his nose to his chest.
“You’re a god!?” Hiccup yelled.
“Yes. As the Dragon god, I prefer the one that wears my crown to be Dragonborn, which is why I have been calling to you.”
Hiccup grew increasingly more panicked as his actions began to stack up. “Dragon god? You mean the god of Lightning and Death?! You’re Akatosh!? But you’re–you’re the head of the pantheon!”
“I am? How interesting.”
“I can’t wear this crown. I have to give it to someone more qualified! I’ve never even fought a person, let alone fought in a war!”
Toothless walked around him, coiling Hiccup with his tail. “You cannot take off the circlet. It is bound to you, as I am. This is your fate. It cannot be passed onto anyone else.”
Hiccup felt weak and leaned against Toothless for support. “I…I can’t believe this. I…you said some people are learning about me right now? Anyone bad? I don’t know if I could defend myself in a fight. And I wouldn’t want anyone to take a hit for me! By Talos, I renamed Akatosh Toothless!”
“You are already on your way to becoming untouchable by mortal men. The Word Wall you read before donning the circlet taught you the word Fus, correct?”
“Yeah…it means ‘Force’ right?”
“Very good! Think about force as it is applied in the natural world. You push against Nirn, and Nirn pushes back. Fus beckons that force without the reciprocate. Now, I will teach you the other two words of the Thu’um.”
Toothless roared at the ground and words appeared, in the ancient text just like the Word Wall.
 Ro. Da.
“‘Ro’ in your tongue means balance. Combined with Fus, it gives precision to your Thu’um. ‘Dah’ means push. A thu’um that combines all three can be powerful and deadly. Be careful. I give you this Thu’um because I heard its echo in your world not too long ago. Someone else knows it.”
“That had to be Drago! He killed High King Torygg with a shout. My father said witnesses saw him collide with the wall and all his bones were shattered.”
“As I said, the Unrelenting Force is a deadly Thu’um. It is also one of the easiest to comprehend. It does not surprise me that someone would know it. I do wonder where he learned it from, though. The Greybeards perhaps.”
“Gobber mentioned them too! They live on a mountain or something?”
“Correct. The Throat of the World. The tallest mountain in Tamriel. The Greybeards are monks that study the way of the voice.”
“So I could learn shouts from them?”
“Certainly. You will have to go to them. You can also learn shouts from Word Walls, like you saw not long ago. And I will teach you shouts when I believe you are ready…but I have been removed from Skyrim for so long with no one to talk to, I’m not sure if I remember them all.”
“Are you going to be able to see through my eyes and talk to me whenever?”
“For now, we will speak while you are asleep. As our bond grows, the more one we will become.”
“I see.”
“There is another group who is learning about you now as well. They will have to seek you out, as they are impossible to get to.”
“Who?”
“The Psijic monks. The Guardians of the Miraculous.”
Hiccup frowned. “What’s a Miraculous?”
“The crown on your head is a Miraculous. A jewel that connects the soul of a human, and that of a god. The Psijic monks have sworn to keep track of them, but these jewels often have a mind of their own. One of their order will seek you out, no doubt.”
“Do they know any shouts?”
“No. And it’s likely they will only take note of you before disappearing again. They are rather hands off.”
“So…I should visit the Greybeards, and I’ll be visited by these…cystic monks.”
“Psijic monks.”
“Right. Anything else I need to know?”
“All in due time, my Hiccup. Now, you should probably wake up.” He reared back and unleashed a thunderous roar right in Hiccup’s face.
Hiccup startled awake for the second time that day, still on the floor of the cave in the burial mound. He glanced around, checking his surroundings. No bandits or skeevers or spiders had found him. He was alone.
He absently went to scratch his head, and touched the circlet. He tried to remove it, but it was just as Toothless had said. He couldn’t take it off.
“What am I going to tell dad?” He lamented.
He considered this as he gazed over the pile of gold still in the chest in front of him. He earned it, after all of this. So he shoveled it all into his satchel, and then shouldered it.
“Right. Now to figure out how to get out of here.”
He looked back the way he came, lamenting the long walk and all that he had to sneak past. As he studied the room, he found another set of stairs not too far away, leading towards the wall.
He followed them, noticing that there was a lever built into a podium next to the wall.
“Oh please be a back door…”
As he pulled the lever, a doorway in the stone gave way to reveal a tunnel, and daylight glowed at the other end.
“Yes!”
Hiccup ran down the tunnel, elated to see the sky again, and proud to have finished his quest unscathed.
But as he came out of the mouth, he smacked face-first into a bandit.
“Well well. Isn’t this interesting?” He cracked his shoulder. “Told the boss it was crazy to patrol this back entrance, but he didn’t care. I should tell him he was right.”
Hiccup panicked, looking for a way out. The tunnel had ended rather abruptly, and if the bandit hadn’t been there, he likely would have run off a cliff.
“So kiddo, whatcha find in there? Let me see that pretty crown.”
It happened on instinct. The bandit reached forward, and Hiccup sucked in a lung full of air.
“Fus Ro Dah!”
The blast echoed across the landscape, making nature itself grow silent.
The bandit ragdolled right off the cliff, being flung several feet before falling and rolling down the mountain like a limp sack of potatoes.
Hiccup peered over the edge, only to see the body still and unmoving.
“By the nines, I killed him.”
Hiccup glanced around the cliff edge, looking for a way down. There had to be one if the bandit got up there in the first place. He found a steep, narrow path along the wall that he could shimmy down if he was careful.
It led to a rock, which led to another rock, on and on, until he finally reached the road.
Exhausted from the descent, he sat on a stone to catch his breath. The sun was now making its way to dusk, and night would be upon him soon. He had spent more time in that dungeon than he thought!
He whistled for Thump, assuming it was pointless as his horse had either wandered to Riverwood or was still on the other side of the mountain. But fortunately, the blessed sound of horse hooves trotting across the ground graced his ears…shortly followed by another set, and then another.
Thump happily galloped around the corner, followed by two Whiterun guards on horseback. That couldn’t be good.
They all came to stop in front of him.
“Young Master Hiccup, the Jarl has been looking for you. We are fortunate to find you alive.”
“He’s been that worried about me? But I’ve only been gone a few hours.”
“A few hours? No. We are nearing two days of your absence. We found your horse outside Riverwood and have been tracking it, hoping he would lead us to you. Luckily, he did.”
Hiccup stood then, on shaky legs, and mounted Thump.
“We will hurry you back to Dragonsreach, Young Master, you look wounded.”
“Oh, I’m okay, I just—“ he glanced down to his side, where he was punctured earlier. In the light of day, his entire side was bloodied. “It looks worse than it is.”
But nevertheless, the guards escorted him quickly back to Whiterun.
When they entered the city gates, townsfolk started cheering.
“It’s good to see you alive boy-o!”
“Welcome back from the brink!”
“Had enough adventure for one lifetime, huh?”
Hiccup tried to shrink on his horse, but still saw every eye on him.
When they reached Dragonsreach, he developed a lump in his throat that he couldn’t quite swallow. The second Jarl Stoick saw him, he came running with his arms open wide. “Son! Hiccup! You’re alive!” He effortlessly lifted Hiccup off the ground and embraced him. “Don’t you ever scare me like that again!”
Just as quickly as he had been lifted, he was rushed over to Gothi, the healer and court magician. He was stripped of his bloody clothes and his wounds were examined. Stoick didn’t leave his side for a second.
“What happened? Where did you go? Who do I need to put a bounty on?”
“Dad, dad, please calm down.” He prepared to tell his father all about his fate as the Dragonborn, but couldn’t quite find the words. His father was already overly protective of him, and if he shared the truth about his fate, chances are he’d never be allowed to leave the city walls. Maybe even Dragonsreach.
With the way his father was acting, that might be true no matter what.
Hiccup decided to tell the truth, just not the whole truth. He sighed. “I found some information, and it led me to Bleak Falls Barrow.”
At the name, Gothi pulled tight on a bandage, making him wince.
“The old Nordic burial mound by Riverwood? What possessed you to go there!?”
“I thought there would be some information about the Dragonborn there.”
“And? Did you find what you were looking for?” Stoick asked with a grimace. He didn’t seem too indulgent at the moment.
“Not…not really. I found the treasure in my bag, and then this circlet.” He gestured to his head. “It’s…we’ll it’s cursed, dad. I can’t take it off.”
Stoick looked devastated. “Cursed? What is going to happen to you?”
“Nothing, from what I gleaned. I just can’t remove it.”
Stoick sighed. “I suppose that is enough punishment. Can you confirm, Gothi?”
The old woman scrutinized the circlet touching the band before breathing in the stone. She tugged on it for good measure. No, for sure this wasn’t coming off.
Gothi was a mute, and as such, she had to communicate her findings through writing.
Hiccup and Stoick sat awkwardly as she scribbled out her message.
“She says,” Stoick read her note, “‘this circlet contains a vast, intense power that sleeps. It does not seem malevolent in nature. I see no reason to try to remove it at this time.’” Stoick frowned. “No need to remove it? It’s a curse!”
“Dad, let’s just see where this goes. She said it’s not malevolent, maybe I’ll be blessed with strength or magic or—“
“Common sense?”
“Harsh.”
“Look, Hiccup. You are the only family I have. Your mother went out on an adventure and never returned. I don’t want the same for you. Please promise me your adventuring days are over, alright?”
“I promise.”
No one noticed he had his fingers crossed.

My HTTYD Fanfic Ideas — The Bride/Groom Series
Tumblr media
.
These fanfic ideas are for a series that I’ve been cooking up for the past couple of years but never got around to it. There will be no canon pairings, but will instead be a series that contains Canon / OC pairings.
This idea was inspired by a couple of fanfics written by a HTTYD writer on FFN whom I’ve been acquainted with fairly well over the years. He wrote Hiccup’s Bride and Snotlout’s Bride.
(They’re really good, by the way. I highly recommend you reading them. Despite Hiccup marrying an OC, he ends up marrying Astrid in the end, though in the next part he does an alternate story where Hiccup remains with OC. And this author does an excellent job with making OCs feel like they’re a part of the HTTYD world!)
After reading his stories, and sadly realizing that he wouldn’t continue with the other main characters, it inspired me to come up with a series where each of the canon characters ends up with an OC. It’s my goal to have this series focus on historical Viking culture and arranged marriages in general, adoptions and fostering, etc... so usual canon things will be absent, and the HTTYD world will be just slightly different. My focus is for them to marry other people and explore their experiences and reactions to those situations.
.
Please keep in mind that my OCs WILL NOT be Mary/Gary Sues, nor will they overshadow the canon cast. I’ve been developing some of my OCs for years, while others I’ve only recently developed. But rest assured that I won’t start posting any of these stories until I’m sure that they will act naturally in this world.
.
.
Here is the list of people I plan or might plan on writing for this series:
• Hiccup • Snotlout • Astrid • Fishlegs • Tuffnut • Ruffnut • Heather • Gustav • Stoick • Valka • Alvin • Dagur • Zephyr? • Nuffink? • Trader Johann (Not Traitor Johann) • Mildew? • Spitelout? • And maybe others... like Mala, Throk, Minden, etc... • And maybe some villains like Viggo, Savage, etc...??

Hiccup’s Bride
Set during DoB. There comes a time when every chieftain (and every son of one) must eventually marry and beget heirs, for the purpose of diplomatic and political bonds between two families, and creating alliances. For Hiccup, it’s no different.
Berk is in a difficult predicament, as it’s now involved in a double-war with the Outcasts and Berserkers. However, help and a solution comes from an unexpected source: Thorvald, cousin of Dagur, offers his aid towards their struggle. The condition for said help? Hiccup’s hand in marriage to Thorvald’s sister, Eydis, and an alliance. Will Hiccup do his duty and save his people, or will he become stubborn, refuse, and suffer the consequences?
Snotlout’s Bride
Set after DoB or RTTE. It’s the time in every Viking’s life when he or she settles down and gets married — and Snotlout is no different. When his clan goes to the Althing in search for a bride, Snotlout explores the various tents in search for the ideal wife. He eventually catches sight of a young woman who’s struggling with sewing a shirt — and her relatives aren’t encouraging at all. Snotlout, seeing himself in her, decides to help her discreetly with her task, much to her surprise.
While he takes his leave and tries to move on, his mind keeps wondering to the girl with the downtrodden face who doesn’t seem to be very competent as a housewife (he knows she’s not a shield-maiden because she wore no armor not had any weapons around like many shield-maidens are wont to do). Before he knows it, he finds himself going back to his family’s tent and talks it over with his father. Spitelout, of course, isn’t too pleased, expecting Snotlout to do as he had asked and find a strong, competent wife from a great family to help strengthen the clan’s prestige. Needless to say, they eventually get into a disagreement, resulting in Spitelout refusing to use any of his money to buy the girl’s hand, and asserts that Snotlout, if he’s so persistent to have her, can go buy her himself.
Not being allowed to bring his dragon, nor having much in the ways of wealth aside from what he took with him, Snotlout decides to go to the girl’s father to make a deal, and at least offer a down payment until he can acquire the rest. But when he sees who the girl’s father truly is, he is shocked. Eventually, after a lot of haggling, he’s able to acquire her hand in marriage, and the wedding date gets set.
Will Snotlout be able to live happily with his new blushing bride for the rest of his life? Or will this turn out to be the greatest mistake he’s ever made? Will this chance bride become the woman he never knew he needed? Or will this become a short and bitter marriage?
Astrid’s Groom
Set near the end of DoB. Hiccup is now married to Eydis, Princess of Berserk. And there’s nothing anyone can do about it. Astrid is still reeling from the reality that she and Hiccup can no longer be together, and any future they might have had is no more — and regrets.
Her parents have now decided it’s time for her to get married, and prepare for the Althing in search of a husband for her. However, Hiccup’s adopted brother, Drift Counsel-sharp (also called “Rig”), comes to her parents’ hall and requests for a match to be made between Astrid and himself, surprising everyone, and shocking Astrid. When her parents hesitate, Sigurdrifa, Astrid’s elder sister, requests for the two of them to discuss it before continuing, and asks her parents and siblings to leave to give them some privacy.
Should Astrid go through with this proposal? Will she be able to move on if she does? Why did Drift even ask her in the first place? Did he really wish to marry her, or is there some other motive? Did someone put him up to it?
In marrying him, will she find happiness return to her life?
Fishlegs’ Bride
Set between DoB and RttE. Now that people are starting to get married, Fishlegs’ parents deem it time for him to marry as well. So they sail for the Althing to search for a bride. With the sweet memory of Heather still lingering in his mind, Fishlegs decides to find a wife who’s not very shieldmaiden-y. A normal and conservative Viking girl that won’t have too high of expectations of him. While his parents wish for him to take the initiative, Fishlegs refuses, wishing for them to choose for him, trusting them that they’ll find someone that’ll be a good fit for him.
When his father comes back, not only with a bride candidate, but her parents as well. She’s a merchant’s daughter who’s intelligent, versatile in anything woman’s work, reads and writes, knows arithmetic, and speaks three languages including Norse. Truly a gem amongst women! As Fishlegs and this girl begin to know each other, Fishlegs feels like he can be himself with her, and, with her blessing, he asks her father for her hand in marriage.
Will they live happily ever after? Or will Fishlegs discover that he’s bitten more than he could chew?
Ruffnut’s Groom
Set slightly before and during RTTE. Ruffnut’s never thought much about marriage. Her vision of marriage was marrying some Viking hunk with bulging muscles, have a wonderful sex life, being served hand-and-foot, and bring her brother along to entertain her. Little did she know that real life doesn’t really go like that.
So she’s shocked when she’s told that she’ll be finding a suitor at the Althing, where there’s a 98% chance of her leaving Berk to live with her new husband. Meaning no home, no family, no friends, no dragons, no Tuffnut. No Barf’n’Belch. Nothing. She’d be alone with no one to count on.
When her family ends up finding a suitable match, she just goes through the motions, feeling dead inside. The man is an average hunk, looks handsome enough, and is a wealthy landowner with many assets and servants. And a widower. While not impressed with her looks and manners, he’s impressed by her strength, and asks her parents to make the match.
As the life of maidenhood fading and the life of matrimony drawing ever closer, Ruffnut is about to lose everything she once had and took for granted.
Will she be able to find happiness with her new groom? Or will she end up becoming one of those women who have a miserable first marriage? Will she ever see Berk and her loved ones again?
Tuffnut’s Bride
Set during RTTE. With his sister disturbingly married, along with everyone else, he’s the only one left who has yet to find matrimony. Of course, he’s perfectly fine with just him and Macey going on adventures with Barf’n’Belch. However, his family thinks differently. His father, in particular, wants him to sire the next generation of Nuts. The problem though is that there aren’t any women either available or wishing to marry him. The Twins had such a reputation that it scared away suitors from both of them, forcing the family to look for suitors outside of Berk... with little success, being a poor and homely family with some Berserker blood in them, and a little too crazy for everyone’s liking. They were lucky enough to find a match for Ruffnut, and gained quite the bride price from her. Which would now need to get spent towards Tuffnut’s match. After several attempts, which end in failure, the family just gives up.
However, one day Tuffnut flies with Barf’n’Belch over the sea, and spots a woman and a small child on a sinking ship on a reef fighting an incoming school of Sharkworms. He rushes to their aid and slaughters many of them, scaring them away. He later is told that she is a runaway slave who was running from her master, and the child with her was hers.
When she says her name is Sigyn — the same name as the wife of his patron god Loki — it was when Tuffnut came to this conclusion: If this wasn’t fate, what was? If this wasn’t Loki telling him that this was the perfect woman for “The World’s Most Dangerous Weapon”, then no one was! So he decides to take them home to Berk.
What will happen between Tuffnut and this slave girl? What will happen if and when her master finds her? Will Tuffnut finally get hitched at long last? And why is Macey looking like its trying to run away again? XD
Heather’s Groom
Set after RTTE. After having returned to the Berserker Tribe, and made her peace with Dagur, Heather is starting to feel more at home. Now is the time for her to start thinking about marriage. However, due to their paths in life separating, Fishlegs is no longer an option. No matter how much she wants it. Thus, another candidate must be chosen!
She’s had several proposals already and none of them have been up to Heather’s standards. Then one day, Isleif, Heir of the Shivering Shores, comes to Berserk to visit his sister, who had married her cousin. During the feast, they ended up sitting next to each other thanks to the lots rolled. As they chatted, they had grown to like each other’s company. When Isleif asked her if she would be opposed to a match with him, Heather, upon reflecting on it, agrees, and they inform Dagur and Thorvald, and a match is made. Isleif sends a Terror to his father to inform him of the match, and Skathgard gives his approval.
What will be the result of this match? Will Heather finally be able to settle and live a happy-ever-after?
Dagur’s Bride
Set after RTTE. Following the canon plot, Dagur the Reformed is busy cleaning up Berserk after the battle against the Hunters/Flyers. With the war over, and Heather herself about to get married, Dagur seeks to ensure that Berserk will enter an era of peace not experienced since the days of Osvald the Agreeable. However, Dagur has made many enemies during his early reign, and if he wishes to make peace a reality, he must make amends.
The chief of these with grudges to settle is the Shivering Shores, whom he declared war against in order to capture the population of Skrills for his Tribe’s use for future conflicts, as it had been in his grandfather’s time.
Seeking reconciliation, Dagur sends his cousin Thorvald to the Shivering Shores, naming him the new High Chieftain of the Berserkers, to meet Chief/Jarl Skathgard, and offer peace to him, as well as chests of gold for reparations. Skathgard, appeased by the gifts, accepts peace and the Berserker Tribe’s arm in friendship.
Skathgard also says to commemorate the event, suggests to Thorvald to take his eldest daughter, Isdottir, as a bride to further signify the ending of hostilities as well as establishing a non-aggression pact between their two communities.
While Thorvald makes peace with Skathgard and prepares for his marriage, Dagur meets with the dignitary from the Grimborn Tribe, where Lars Grimborn steps up and offers Viggo and Ryker’s sister, Ingigerd Grimborn, to Dagur as his bride, eager to end conflicts and tensions between his clan and Berserk.
Will these unions bring about lasting peace? Or will it end in bloodshed, a costly divorce, or all of the above?
Gustav’s Bride
Set after RTTE. Gustav is now of-age, and the time has come for him to marry and beget children (also because his mother is tired of raising him). But who should he marry? With his prospects low outside of Berk due to his financial situation, he’ll have to choose a spouse on Berk. But who? Certainly none would suffice, but Lifa, the sister of Snotlout Jorgenson, his role model and mentor!
But Snotlout’s against it? And there are other suitors also vying for her hand? Can Gustav win her hand? Does he even have a chance?
Stoick’s Bride
Set in Pre-HTTYD 1 || [Canon/Headcanon].
It has been a few years after the death of his father, Squidface the Tolerant, and Stoick is just beginning to get used to the mantle of chieftainship. However, it’s time for him to think of matrimony and begetting heirs for the next generation. Alfkelda, Alvin’s sister, whom he has known almost as long as Alvin, would make a better match than most. The problem? Her brother has become an Outcast, and her family honor disgraced. She’s a woman he shouldn’t be looking at. But Stoick feels guilty for being partly responsible for her current situation, and wishes to marry her to fix it somewhat.
Will this marriage work out, or will it end about as well as Alvin’s banishment?
(Based on my headcanon that Stoick had married once before Valka came along, due to the age difference and other reasons.)
Valka’s Groom (Canon Divergence AU)
Set either after HTTYD 2 or HTTYD 3. After the death of Stoick, her son Hiccup became the new Chief of Berk, and it has been busy ever since. However, Valka is grieving for her husband’s death, and it’s only the comfort of her son and daughter-in-law that helps her along.
However, one day, a middle-aged man stops by on Berk — and Valka discovers him to be her first love who her father had blocked from marrying before she ended up marrying Stoick. Can a broken heart be healed? Can a revoked love be rekindled?
Spitelout’s Bride
Set before HTTYD 1. Focuses on Spitelout’s past as a young man and his journey of matrimony as he marries his new wife (who’ll be the future mother of his children, including Snotlout) and starts a family of his own. What events will play out that will lead to the current timeline?
Trader Johann’s Bride
Set before HTTYD 1. After having been separated from his lover by her family, Johann, wanting to start over, and rebuild his trade, wishes to find somebody to help fund and build a new ship. He eventually meets a man and convinces him to fund him a new ship and trade goods. However, in exchange, the man will share ownership of the ship, and Johann will have to marry the man’s only daughter.
Will Johann take this offer? And will he be able to move on and live a decent life with his new bride?
Alvin’s Bride
Set in HTTYD 2. It’s been some months since the conclusion of the Hunter Wars, and the Outcast Tribe of the Inner Isles has finally been accepted by Chief/Jarl Skathgard of the Shivering Shores as a legitimate faction and no longer a threat to the safety of the Inner Isles; thus, they are now allowed to take part in the Council of Chieftains.
Now that his tribe has finally been legitimatised and pardoned, it’s time to start searching for a habitable island to call home suitable to raise crops, livestock, and families. With many of his men in their late 20s to early 40s, he needed to do it quickly. Finding brides for them would also prove to be a challenge. But then, as Chief of the Outcasts, he had dealt with worse obstacles and challenges than this.
Thanks to several notable characters vouching for them, and thanks to all the loot his men got from many battles against other Outcast warbands and Hunters, it didn’t take long for Viking families to offer bride candidates to them at the Althing. Alvin, meanwhile, wonders whether he should marry, or if he should just let whoever marries his adopted daughter become his Heir.
At the Althing, Stoick and Alvin make their alliance “official” in front of witnesses. Then later that night, Stoick visits Alvin and offers his niece in marriage, and, after some thinking, Alvin is convinced to marry her.
Will Alvin finally earn a happy-ever-after, after decades of pain, guilt, treachery, and loneliness? Or will the gods interfere and meddle with it once again?
Toothless’ Mate
Set after RTTE/HTTYD 2. When Hiccup and Toothless meet the Furians the year before after dealing with the Hunter menace. Now that peace has been secured, and Toothless’s dominance has been established in the Thunder of Berk, it is now time to find a mate. Luckily, there are plenty of Night Furies to choose from on the Isle of Night, thanks to the Furians, led by Hiccup’s kinsmen, Norrik and Nidhoggr. And better yet, they have invited them to visit their island, far from Berk.
And thus, Toothless goes on his Quest to find a mate and start a family of his own. Will Toothless be able to settle down at last?
Viggo’s Bride
Set after RTTE. After having barely escaped death at the hands of Krogan and his own Hunters thanks to his accomplices, Viggo decided to heal and recover before returning to his Tribe. When he hears of a tournament being hosted by a nearby island, he decides to try his luck. When he gets there, he runs into a woman who had once been his lover — before his grandfather put a stop to it and sent her away.
Fate seems to rekindle old flames, and the woman is now a widow... with a child, no less? And the boy’s his?? What will Viggo do now that Fate has reunited him with the past?
Savage’s Bride
Set after RTTE. After Savage escapes from Berserk, he gathers together the remnants of Berserker and Outcast rebels to form a formidable warband. A mysterious woman then comes to him — a witch and seer — and offers him a proposal that he’d be hard-pressed to refuse: Be her champion and she would give him all he desired and more; she also proposed becoming his woman as well. Will Savage take this offer? Why did she come to him? Does she truly see potential in him, or are there ulterior motives behind her proposal?
Mildew’s Bride(s)
Set before HTTYD 1. Focuses on Mildew’s younger years, and on his four marriages, what happened to his wives and any children he had, as well as how he ended up with Fungus.

Family Ties
Hiccup and Dagur are half-brothers through Stoick
Dagur calls Hiccup his brother constantly.
Dagur and Stoick both have bright red hair and green eyes.
Dagur is several years older than Hiccup.
Dagur attempted to kill Oswald. First, he claimed that he actually did kill Oswald, and then later he said that he used Oswald’s disappearance as a chance to become chief of the Berserkers. The truth is probably in between those two claims; he wanted to kill Oswald and tried to kill him, but ultimately failed allowing Oswald to flee.
My theory:
Stoick had a relationship with a Berserker woman when she and other Berserkers were visiting. This would be under the reign of Stoick’s father over Berk and Oswald’s father over the Berserkers. The Berserker woman returned home with the rest of her tribe, ended up marrying Oswald, and Oswald decided to claim and raise her son as his own son and heir. Oswald and Stoick swore an oath not to reveal the truth of Dagur’s parentage. A few years later, Oswald and his wife had a daughter that they named Heather. A couple years later, Stoick and Valka had Hiccup. I imagine Dagur as 6-7 years older than Hiccup, and 4-5 years older than Heather. So Heather is 1-2 years older than Hiccup.
When Dagur was in his early twenties, he and Oswald got into a fight where Dagur found out the truth of his parentage. This is what made Dagur attempt to kill Oswald and develop such hatred towards Hiccup and Stoick.
In summary, Hiccup and Dagur are half-brothers through Stoick, and Dagur and Heather are half-siblings through their mother.

Serotonin Booster :D 🐉
How to train your dragon edition
Here are some things I had forgotten or little details I just noticed on my rewatch, maybe even Unpopular Opinions 🤭👀
✨Race to the Edge✨
SEASON 2
I love Stoick and Astrid's relationship 🥺
The way Hiccup just knows what's going on with Astrid 🥺
I loved Team Astrid, the episode and the actual team ✋🏼😭😂
OMG WAIT I LOVE THIS EPISODE I THINK!! Night of the Hunters pt1
"When a Nadder shoots its spines it always leaves his belly exposed"
THE WAY HICCUP JUST KNOWS SOMETHING IS WRONG 🥺
I love overprotective Hiccup
"What took you so long?"
UGHHH how I hated Heather in these episodes
I love how Barf and Belch protected Ruff from the dragon hunters 🥺
Also I seriously disliked that Lycanwing episode, it was just annoying idk why. But I did like how it showed that Ruff actually cares abt Tuff and how far she's willing to go to protect him.
Nvm now that I've fully watched this episode I've come to appreciate it a bit more bc we get to see overprotective Ruff, Toothless saving Tuffnut, Chicken talking, Fishlegs screaming like a girl, Hugh Snotlout... It has it all 😂
Fishlegs and Ruffnut being married LMAO THE FORESHADOWING
THE ARMOR-WING
JAHDHHAHAHA NOT TOOTHLESS LAUGJOAT THE TWINS JOKES OF HICCUP BEING ON HIS LAST LEG
Wait but I'm actually enjoying the Zippleback Experience episode. I remember when I only actually liked the episodes if there was Hiccstrid on them BUT LIKE WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME?!! THIS IS PURE COMEDY I JUST LOVE THIS
NONONO JAHDHHAHAHA BUT THE WAY SNOTLOUT HIT HICCUP RIGHT IN HIS INSECURITY AND SO HICCUP PUNCHED HIM AND KNOCKED HIM OUT!! THE WAY HE SCREAMED YALL-
That scene where Barf and Belch saved Hiccup from the Hunters and they sent their distress signal is freaking badass and hilarious I love them sm
Dudeeee i was so surpriseeeeddd whenever Heather and Astrid met again AND HUGGED
"I rely on you"🥺🥺🥺
I don't like how Hiccup treated Astrid after she didn't tell the gang abt Heather
Ok but the beef between Astrid and the twins makes sense ngl. Like it makes sense for Astrid to be upset with everyone whenever they don't take shii seriously but she should still be respectful yk
Johan calling the gang for help bc he was being attacked by dragons just when the edge was being attacked was the first (that I catch) time Johan showed that he was with the Hunters
This was all in ep8 and 9 and I love how both Tuff and Astrid managed to keep the Hunters of the edge
NOT THE DRAGON FLIGHT SUIT ACTUALLY WORKING WOW THAT WAS AMAZING (EP9)
Love the way episode 9 ended but DUDEE I really wish they had talked about what happened LIKE ALL THE STRESS ASTRID AND TUFF WENT THRU AND ALL THEY GOT WAS "how'd you manage to hold them off for so long" oh shut up
Seashocker - deep water dragon that's extremely hard to spot bc they hardly ever surface, only eats deep fish
- i love the way both Hiccup and Fishlegs go into geek needy mode
Completely forgot that scauldron could be any colors other than green
"Astrid's the crown jewel, Fishlegs. When you have a shot at Loki'ing Astrid you gotta take it"
FISHLEGS IS SO BADASS OMG THE WAY HE JUST JUMPED AND RODE THE SEASHOCKER AND GOT HIMSELF ELECTROCUTED JUST TO SAVE IT
I love how both Hiccup and Toothless have saved each other numerous times before... Like it's not only Toothless saves Hiccup nope nope nope Hiccup's also saved Toothless multiple times
- i also hate it when ppl say stuff like "Hiccup's useless without Toothless" maybe not exactly like that but stuff of the sort like pls shut up :/
Pre-dating Hiccstrid moments are adorable.
Also Snotlout and Tuffnut a ting like kids just when Hiccup and Astrid are talking and then them realizing they're best friends 🥺 I LOVE THEM THEY'RE HILARIOUS
Snotlout: You are so tough and nutty
Tuffnut: and you are so loud and snotty!
*both of them start hitting each other*
Toothless: 😶😳😦🤨
UGHHH BUT I LOVE HOW HICCUP just goes up to Astrid and touches her shoulder to comfort her whenever she's feeling guilty - beginning of Maces and Talons pt2 ep13
NO AND THE WAY SHE DOES IT TOO🥺
and the way his voice breaks 🥺😭
No because Ryker and Viggo's accents are kinda hot...
"I like toast-y. Not toast-ed" JAHSHAHA SNOTLOUT

1. Do u think viggo and ryker may have known valka during the time she disappeared when hiccup was a baby?
2. U said viggo is 37 i checked wikipedia and found nothing of it. If its true then ryker is between 40-45 years.
3. Do you think viggo would of been married and have a kid?
4. Does he really have a mental illness?
5. I dont understand is it true viggo actually love hiccup? I asked cause of the ships i see on tumblr.
Sorry if this is too much for you to answer
1- I highly doubt it. If the Grimborn brothers knew Valka or Stoick. I would assume they also would have recognized Hiccup’s name when they first introduced themselves.
2- so when I first saw that he was 37 years old someone on my TikTok page had commented it saying that it was on Wikipedia because my first estimate was that he was 27. So I went and looked and it did say 37 and when I went to look a couple weeks later it was gone. So I don’t know who took it down or who put it up but I do think 37 is a pretty good estimate.
3- As much as I would love to think Viggo did get married and have a kid it depends on the time we are talking about. If it’s during the time he was a dragon hunter chief I highly doubt love or getting an heir was his top priority. However if it is after he sacrificed himself for hiccup and he somehow possibly left if he survived then I do think he would want to experience what most wanted during that time in their life.
4- as I said in one of my previous posts from a couple of months ago, I did mention that Viggo may have had some mild case of depression. Not really the kind I will leave you on motivated to do anything but definitely the kind that would cause his personal life to distract him from his work life. After all he did lose Riker and I don’t think at all his intention was to get Riker killed but it definitely did happen and I would have to assume it left a toll on him. As well as when he fell into the volcano he was no longer considered the chief of the hunters and he was also wounded in his left eye which definitely could’ve caused some trouble for him seeing as he had never dealt with this sort of injury before. It is very much possible that he could did have antisocial disorder as well as said in my previous post by I believe it was at @evilwriter37 .
5- I know a lot of people here I think I’m Tumblr that Viggo did have some sort of feelings for hiccup. And I do believe that it was definitely possible because of how he acted towards Hiccup, not just toward how he acted in triple cross but definitely before then. For example every time Viggo captured hiccup he would only acknowledge him and not any of the other riders, also if he got hiccup along with him he never touched or threatened him in anyway. This was likely him trying to start some level of trust with the dragon rider. These are just some minor signs of Viggo having possible feelings for hiccup if you listen to how he talks he kind of speaks in a little more gentle tone I would say rather than the demanding tone he uses with Ryker, dagger, and even the other riders in his own men. Perhaps if you can possible that if you look at his body language throughout the series you may see some changes with him acting toward hiccup compared to him acting with his other men. He certainly had more respect for heck out because of how intelligent he was unlike other characters in the Jews who are nowhere near as intellectual. I would highly think and I’m sure others would agree that Viggo we’re looking for a significant other doesn’t mainly care about looks. Instead he looks at the mind as of it were an important factor in who he chooses to be in love with.
also this is not too many questions for me to ask I’m happy to answer any more. You can even ask about some head cannons I have or any ideas I plan for future stories like anything I’m happy to answer anything you want.

Never Forget, Never Regret (1/?)
Levi Ackerman X Reader (But like, less than normal?)
A/N: Blame that conversation I had with Suz a couple weeks ago for this one. #BEST DECOY CLUB!!! - Nemo
Summary: They’ve always been a duo, riding along the exact same path in the exact same way. But then they aren’t, and (y/n) can’t tell if that’s a good thing or not.
Warnings: Character Death. General AoT themes. Blood. Injuries.
Listening to: ‘Apple Seed’ - Attack on Titan OST (Bertholdt Transformation Theme) - ‘Old man please remember me.’
Series Masterlist
Masterlist
Eventually, when someone's faced with something that they're unable to overcome, they have to make a decision. Keep fighting, and overcome the situation. Or get help, find someone who can overcome it.
These two Scouts managed to do both.
When they were in the training corps they met someone who they soon came to realized was a lot like the other. And to this day they had yet to meet anyone who didn't think they both were absolutely insane.
Training s cadets was more a time they'd both spend bonding rather than actually training - even if an obscene amount of training did get done anyway. It was like they both really wanted to be there. They'd blabber on about how each other would kill the titans, how efficient they both could be if they tried the odm gear this way or that. They would keep score when they spared, rewarding whoever 'won' with some of the loser's food at dinner. The most unusual of all the things they did was probably joining the Scouting Legion - without flinching, or a single second thought.
No one would think that was a good choice, not until a boy came years after they both joined. He had the same pure, unrestrained audacity as both of them did - and did he latch on to their examples like a man starved.
On their first expedition beyond the walls, everyone thought they'd both die. Not because they were inexperienced or lacking skills - they both were some of the top ranking in the whole cadets - however they were also self-destructive.
When the time came to using the odm gear to avoid the titans during the expedition, they went nothing short of buckwild.
Their superior was horrified. The other Scouts were shocked into awe. And when they returned within the walls, their superior's superior wanted to 'ground' them both for recklessness. However, like some angel of death, second chances, and blond hair, Erwin Smith came and simply asked for them both to be transferred to his section. Erwin, being new to his higher position in the Scouts, was seen as just gathering people to join his expeditions.
The two had been outside the walls. Riden. Fought. Lived. Protected. In fact, despite their reckless moves and haphazard techniques, they'd been a great help - only three people came back to be buried, and one didn’t come back at all.
A new record.
Erwin didn't understand how bad they must've been, facts considered. Not until he saw them in action too.
Then and there, in a forest filled with titans, he knew.
They were smiling. Laughing. They both sounded like they were having the time of their lives. He concluded they were absolutely bonkers. But in a flash, he also knew they were going to be useful.
They went ahead, letting out whoops and cheers, while watching each other's backs, but they drew a lot of the titans to themselves too. They put themselves into a buttload of danger, but the other Scouts, especially the new cadets, were having it much easier. Erwin could see a method to the madness, even if they themselves couldn't, and from then on he decided he'd use it as best he could.
And that's exactly what happened.
───────✱.。:。✱.:。✧.。✰✧.。:✱───────
You hung up your saddle, fixing up the stirrups, and deciding to not clean it today, as much as Levi might nag you about it later. You did do it last week, and again lightly before you left yesterday.
After today, however, you had a feeling he'd be lenient.
Despite how Erwin planned, and how the Cadet Armin offered his opinion, the losses counted were not something you, nor your titan-killing counterpart could've stopped. Said counterpart soon appeared at your side.
By now you could tell when it was her behind you and when it was Hange trying to test your 'connection'. You could tell she was going to say something, just from the way she let out a huff. Turning, you saw she was looking slightly disheveled, which was odd considering how kept she normally looked.
And for once, you didn't know what to say to make her or yourself feel better.
"I'll miss them," she said, saving you from having to say anything, "But we've got to keep fighting. For them."
"Never regret." You said, lifting a fist up to her, and she mirrored you, her fist now touching yours.
"Never forget." She finished.
"Oi, (y/n), Nerva. Erwin wants the both of you in the dining hall." Levi said, appearing from thin air to startle you both half out of your skins. "Now." he added after a beat.
"Yessir." She drawled, earning a scowl from the short captain. Even though you'd both been here longer than him, he still thought he had more authority than you. Nerva said it was because he was 'so old', but you were pretty sure it was just because of how skilled he was. You worked a lot on luck, and he didn't like leaving things to chance and bets.
"Sure thing Levi." You said. If one of you were going to be less than pleasant, then it was probably going to be you. It helped that you had a soft spot for him.
You both watched Levi eye you one more time, before he left. No sooner had he left, then Nerva had a hand on your shoulder.
"'Sure thing Levi'," she started, mocking you in a hushed and too goodie-two-shoed voice, "Also, I love you and want to marry you and have your babies please, Mr. Captain Levi Sir."
You laid a heavy backhand on her shoulder.
"Shut up!" You scolded, "After everything that happened today, you're doing that?" She smiled sadly, shrugging with a hand on her shoulder.
"Humour makes it easier for me. You know I don't cry, ever, so this is second best." she said, "And you know, well might I add, that if Petra were still here I'd be doing it to her too. The both of you were groupies."
Your eyes darkened, a ghost of a wicked smirk flashing on your face before you returned to your stoick look.
"I supposed I shouldn't bring up that 'meeting' you had with Miche and Erwin then. Without me." You said, sticking your nose in the air. "You and I both know we always go to meetings together. That one was suspicious."
Nerva sputtered as you took off towards the main building, catching up to your side with a few quick strides.
"I've sworn that was just a meeting, nothing happened!"
"Sure sure."
───────✱.。:。✱.:。✧.。✰✧.。:✱───────
They had a plan.
The Cadet Armin thought he knew who the Female Titan was, and as a group you'd all come up and approve a plan.
You and Nerva didn't have a lot to do, if you were to compare this mission to normal circumstances. Your main job was to make sure things didn't go too out of hand, and to take civilians out of the way if they couldn't in time. Your unprecedented odm moves would be utilized, just like Erwin normally did, and Nerva was practically vibrating for a chance to catapult and slingshot through narrow streets.
You hadn't done something like that since the 104th Cadets joined the Garrison and Scouts to help with the second wall breach.
Standing atop a rooftop each, you and Nerva huddle behind some chimney's. You both share a couple looks, and you knew what she was saying.
'Something's gonna happen. Something bad.'
And you couldn't help but agree. You don't survive this long in the Scouts without getting an intuition. A sixth sense for when things are going to turn sour. This was one of those times you were right.
The sky rumbled, shaking the building you were on, and there was a bright flash of light. You slid down the roof but caught yourself, and Nerva surged forward with a stumble.
"Damn," she swore, hands on her odm handles, "It really was Annie."
You turned and climbed back up the roof to see what Nerva saw - the same blonde-haired titan that had killed your friends.
"That's a titan I'd cut to splinters." Nerva muttered.
"She's just a kid," you said, also reaching for your gear, "I bet she doesn't know any different." She clicked her tongue, before pointing around.
"Let's get moving. I'll tell Erwin, you tell Hange. Collect and corral civilians on the way if you have time. Go, go, go!"
You both had an intuition that day - that something bad would happen. At the time you didn't know how bad that thing was. But you found out.
Annie and the Female Titan soon became the least of your problems.

So I know that I should have a life by now, but I don’t, and my 2021 thought is that actually, httyd 2 and the hidden world are in the wrong order.  Reasons being:
Grimmel makes more sense as a sequel villain than Drago does.  Grimmel is very personal, he’s after night furies, he has a backstory similar to Hiccup’s, he’s fundamentally a foil.  After Hiccup’s initial success in the first movie, I think it would be fundamentally more interesting to see him immediately encounter someone who had all of the same choices as him and took the opposite path.
(this got super long because I have Opinions)
Grimmel interacting with Stoick would also be deeply fascinating.  For someone to live the dragon killing life for so long and put that aside for friendship with dragons would introduce a very interesting conflict with Grimmel. Plus, I was right when I made this post, and I want to see Grimmel flirt with Stoick.  Would that fit in a PG rating?  No.  Do I care?  No.
But ok, so Grimmel still uses the light fury to capture Toothless, but this time, he’s working for some mysterious head honcho bad guy.  He’s probably going rogue to kill the last night fury, actually, and maybe he has mixed feelings about that.  It’s a chance to build Drago up as a scarier guy, as in “the real big bad is waiting for the finale”
Eret as an eager Grimmel henchman who was saved from Drago’s wrath due to his potential.  Like, actually set up that there is someone worse out there for a whole movie.  Also, Eret, who has seen how Grimmel controls dragons seeing how Berkians work with them and finding it fundamentally better.
Grimmel is defeated, the Light fury is on Berk, as well as way too many dragons, and there’s no alpha...hmm, that sounds like a primary destination for some crazy warlord trying to build a dragon army, doesn’t it?
Valka was underutilized in the conflict with Grimmel, Stoick would have been great there, Valka wasn’t allowed to do much (except check out Snotlout which, if that’s the direction you’re going, give us the titty outfit).  Also, having Stoick around for a whole other movie without Valka around would give time to dig into the “why isn’t hiccstrid married” conflict with the #1 Hiccstrid shipping dad.
So more on Valka, but what if she was looking for the hidden world the whole damn time?  Like the whole last 20 years?  Because she’s been involved with the Drago conflict (that we saw predicted in the last movie), and she needs somewhere safe to put the dragons that she’s come to understand and respect.
So then in the third movie, it’s not just a random statistically anomalous coincidence that has Hiccup running into Valka in a random cloud, but instead the Light Fury leading Hiccup to her in his own quest for the hidden world (which Stoick influenced, but Hiccup was the one to think “maybe it’s a place for dragons to be safe, not to hunt them”, also that’s why he’s obsessively mapping, he’s looking for the hidden world)
And the thing is that Drago is a better pentultimate villain, in theory, as he is global.  He wears a night fury cloak like it’s no big deal, he is attempting to control the entire world, there is now more time to flesh him out (and time was taken in the second movie), so when the events of the second movie play out largely the same as in Valka is discovered, Stoick dies, Toothless is taken, Toothless becomes the alpha, it feels like a more inescapable series of events in which Alpha Toothless then leads all the dragons to the hidden world for safety.
Pitfalls avoided: The plot of the second movie no longer hinges on how slutty Eret is, no random Drago’s bewilderbeast in the hidden world (like what happened to drago?  Seriously?), I don’t think they have to leave Berk for no reason.  I’m still salty about Berk.  That was their home of seven generations.  Stoick would never.  A pattern in escalation of conflict from one island, to one species of dragon, to the whole world.  There’s no longer that “hey dude, I’ve known you for 2 days and you’ve tried to kill me like twice, want my dad’s dragon?”
Things I’m giving up so you know I’m serious about this: The plot of the second movie no longer hinges on how slutty Eret is, there’s no random Snotlout being into milfs and Valka not minding for some reason

Midsummer Relaxation
Midsummer was approaching and the people of New Berk have been scrambling all over, preparing for the celebration. The sun barely sets anymore, and everyone was absolutely exhausted. Hiccup was supposed to overview the entire preparation of the feast but all he desired was a break. Thank the Gods for marrying such a wonderful woman.
oOo
Midsummer was approaching and the people of New Berk have been scrambling all over the village for days, preparing for the celebration. The sun barely set anymore, and everyone was absolutely exhausted, prone to often make mistakes that drove the Chief of New Berk wild. Hiccup was supposed to overview the entire preparation of the feast, but also had to settle petty quarrels between sleep-deprived Vikings; avoiding sharp flying objects on the occasion. It was the perfect recipe for chaos and he was worried that they will not be ready on time. If one thing went according to plan, three more things would set them back again. Food went missing, tables were broken, celebrative outfits were set on fire. All he wanted to do relax, he felt like he’s been awake for seven days straight and his mind isn’t cooperating anymore, just begging to shut down for a whole month. By now, he was just acting like a wandering draugr. He really wondered how his father managed to handle this without breaking a sweat and dearly wished he was by his side, guiding him.
His wife was by his side the entire time, shouldering half of the responsibilities. Even she, despite being quite tired as well (he swore he saw her take a power nap on top of a ladder last time), handled it better than himself. She seemed to be fuelled by a spark of positive energy. He remembered a few years back when the twins explained the change in their friends’ attitude towards the Midnight Sun, since then, Astrid found a dark place to sleep so she doesn’t get any more of those embarrassing memories again. What kind of Hofferson would ever call a Jorgenson handsome? Of course, the sun still had its effects on her, but her overzealous demeanour toned down to a bearable extent. While it did seem a bit overwhelming sometimes, it kept Hiccup’s spirits up. It was their first Midsummer as a wedded couple and he really didn’t want to mess this up.
Today, however, she had suddenly requested to immediately go home after being done with only half of her duties done. For someone who prides herself on being so effective and getting the work done, it was very unusual of her to abandon her responsibilities. This worried Hiccup, so he didn’t object and watched her dash towards their house. He didn’t know how much time passed, the sun remained in its usual elevated position, but he felt like tonight will be a four blocks of ice kind of night. He felt like there was absolutely no progress made today despite getting up in the early hours. He couldn’t even track the time since the sun was barely moving. Some muttonhead decided it was a smart idea to open Sven’s sheeps’ pen and let the uncoordinated Vikings chase them like toddlers who could barely walk yet. If he could get his hands on that person, he swore he was going to get an earful that even his late father, Stoick, would be impressed by. He hoped that Astrid got enough rest so she can go back to being her feisty, short-tempered self. He would greatly benefit from that. The Berkians, despite being completely out of control, would never cross with a hot-blooded, axe-wielding Valkyrie and would sober up at the speed of light.
Speaking of his beloved blonde wife, he saw her approach him with a smile on her face. Even though he was absolutely exhausted, he smiled back, her presence bringing him a sense of comfort. He extended his hand to her and she took it, bringing her closer to him, enlacing her waist, and pressing small kisses on her neck. She giggled in a very un-Astridlike way.
“Well, I’m not one to object to this kind of greeting, but we’re in the middle of town and people are looking.” Astrid said as she observed around her. Gobber was covering a kid’s eyes. Some villagers had a dumbfounded expression on their faces, rarely seeing Hiccup initiating such an intimate gesture; apart from the occasional lip or forehead kiss. Others just cheered or ignored them. Hiccup let out a small whine and rested his head on her shoulder, keeping his arms wrapped around her form.
“I missed you.” He whimpered.
“I wasn’t gone for that long, babe.” She replied as she stroked his hair. Her poor husband has the bad habit of overworking himself, and the fact that no one can distinguish between day and night definitely didn’t help. “Come home with me, I have something to show you.”
“I’m sorry Milady, I still have work to do, we’re behind schedule and Midsummer is in a week.” His reply a bit muffled in her shoulder.
“Go and have yer fun, lad. You’ve worked more than anyone here and deserve some respite. And besides, how can ye refuse yer wife’s invitation?” The young couple turned their heads to look at Gobber approaching them.  “Ah, I remember when Stoick was acting just like ye, never knowing when to stop. It took Valka threatening not to share their marital bed anymore, snapped ‘im right out of it, and practically dragged ‘im home. The next morning they kept yawning all over the place, creating a chain of never-ending yawns. Now that I think about it, that’s probably how ye were concei-“
“-OKAY! That’s enough Gobber. I got your point.” Hiccup exclaimed in horror. While he was used to hanging around people that did not have a filter, Gobber was probably the one he feared the most. Since his best friend’s demise, the blacksmith has been recounting stories of him. Some were great to listen to, remembering the bravery and leadership of Stoick the Vast; but some were just better to keep to oneself. With the approach of the Midnight Sun’s peak, Gobber has gotten worse and Hiccup would’ve much preferred wearing the earbuds he made once during his encounter with the Death Song, just to save himself of the embarrassing images his mentor so crassly described to him.
Astrid looked at Gobber with a mixture of disgust and amusement, before deciding to grab her stunned husband’s arm and pulling him towards their house, away from the growing crowd of curious Vikings. She hoped her parents didn’t witness this whole ordeal.
“Astrid, I don’t think I have the energy to do what Gobber obnoxiously suggested, maybe-“ Hiccup said as he was being pulled by his wife.
“-Hush you. That’s not what I had in mind when I came to get you.” She cut him off, continuing to pull him towards their house. She let go of his arm once they crossed their threshold’s doorframe and closed the door, locked it just in case those nosy Vikings decided to rudely barge in.
After being exposed to the sunlight for so long, Hiccup’s eyes had to adjust to the darkness of the room, illuminated by a couple of candles. He could smell a pleasant fragrant scent in the room and spotted their bathtub in front of the lit fireplace; the rugs been removed. Astrid led him to the bathtub and sat him down on the chair that was deliberately placed right next to it. She saw his questioning gaze.
“Gobber was right about you working harder than anyone here in this village. You deserve to relax a bit, take some time off.”
“You know I can’t afford to relax, now. Not when Midsommer is so close. Those sleep-deprived Vikings aren’t going to lead themselves, they can barely listen to me when I’m there. I’ll rest once we’re done.” He said, preparing to stand up again. Astrid pushed him down.
“I’ve asked your mom to take your place for a bit. She’s surprisingly unaffected by the sun’s constant presence. And she agreed that you needed a day off. Everyone could see how tired you are.” Astrid started unbuttoning his (GUARD STUFF). “And I want to take care of my husband. Will you let me?” Hiccup gulped, his words not coming out. He simply nodded. It’s been a while since she saw him being bashful around her. She gratefully smiled at him and pecked him on the lips.
She proceeded to fully undress him, and took off his prosthetic, placing it within reach of the chair. Gone were the days Hiccup felt ashamed of showing his scar. Astrid made sure to show him how much he meant to her, leg or no leg. When he was coming home after a rough day of chiefing, she would give him his ice blocks and tell him to take care of his migraines while she took care of his leg, massaging it. She would sometimes bring it to her lips and kiss it, showing her appreciation to him. He would always beam at her every time she did this. She frowned when she saw the current redness of his stump, also spotting a blister forming.
“Let me help you get in the tub. Just relax. I’ll massage your leg when I come back, I’m going to get some food from the Great Hall.” She said as she rose from her kneeling position. Her cooking did improve over time thanks to Hiccup and Gobber, but she wanted his day off to be perfect, which wasn’t the case for her cooking yet. She tried to make a nice intricate meal for the two of them, which is why she left so early. However, her attempts were all in vain as the food always ended up burning. In the end, she had to admit defeat.
Hiccup grabbed her wrist. “Join me?”
Astrid contemplated his words for a few seconds before nodding. She can grab dinner later. She wrapped her husband’s arm around her shoulder and helped him get into the tub. The water wasn’t too warm since they were in the hottest month of Berk, but it wasn’t cold to the point he would start shivering after being submerged for a couple of minutes.
Hiccup looked over at his wife undress. He had seen her in this state countless times, even before they were married; but it always felt like the first time. He was the only Viking that she allowed to see her like this, with her guard down. Her body wasn’t unscathed. It was filled with scars and burns, proving that this woman was a warrior that has been through so many battles and came out victorious every time. She wouldn’t hesitate to swing an axe to a skull if someone ever looked at her funny. So, this woman allowing him to witness her in her most vulnerable state was an absolute honour to him, that he would never take for granted. Her scars were a part of her and accentuated her beauty and he made sure to always remind her of it.
“Allow me.” He said as he extended a hand towards her. She knew what he wanted and turned her back to him. He rose, sat on the edge of the tub and pulled the leather band that kept her braid in place off. He slowly undid his wife’s braid, letting her gold strands cascade down to her lower back. He then gathered her hair in his hand and swept it over her shoulder, exposing her freckled neck and scarred back. He wrapped his arms around her waist and placed a loving kiss on the largest scar she had. A scar trailed from her right shoulder to the left side of her hip. She was proud of that scar as it was a reminder of her saving his life from an assassination attempt. During the yearly Thing meeting between multiple tribes, when the dragons and some Viking tribes were still cohabiting together, a spy has been placed within them, trying to poison the Dragon-loving Chiefs. Astrid and Heather caught on pretty quickly and managed to expose the spy in front of all the Chiefs. Being surrounded, no one expected the spy to suddenly lunge himself at Hiccup with his sword. Astrid, being the closest to him and desperate to keep him unharmed, had used her back as a shield. The wound hurt like Hel but it was worth it. She was so scared to have failed him as his then-General, she didn’t care that she put her life on the line to save his. A Chief protects his own, but it’s also the General’s job to protect the people AND the Chief. Hiccup wouldn’t let her leave his sight for weeks after that, eternally grateful and forever scared he was going to lose her that day.
“You’re absolutely beautiful.” He told her. His eyes were filled with wonder to this Valkyrie in front of him. She smiled gratefully at him and climbed in the bathtub, sitting opposite of him.
She took his stump in her hands and started to delicately massage it, coaxing a few moans of relief out of him. Her nimble fingers were definitely a gift from the Gods. She managed to soothe the knots in his leg with great accuracy. All day, he had to focus on the utter chaos happening in the village that he didn’t have the time to focus on himself and his discomfort, ignoring the pains coming from his leg begging him to take the weight off of it. She carefully avoided the small blister forming near the bottom of the stump.
“Mmmh, this feels so good.” Hiccup sighed with pleasure as he closed his eye, focussing on the sensation.
“You’ve been standing for too long, babe. I know the Midsummer celebration is stressing you out, but you’ve got to start listening to your body when it tells you to rest.” He opened his eyes, looking at her hands doing their wonders underwater.
“I know, I know. But it’s a bit hard to do that when we keep progressing backward each day. I swear to Odin, every time I look away, someone messes up something, I just can’t do it.” Astrid’s hand rose to swipe Hiccup’s bangs back, revealing his beautiful green eyes. Since the start of the preparations a few weeks ago, he didn’t have the time to let her cut his hair.
“You can’t do it on your own. Remember, you have me. You have your mom, Gobber, Eret and the gang. We’re all here to help you. You just have to accept the help instead of shouldering most of the responsibilities. We’re willing to take some of the load off you.” She said as she grazed her thumb over his dark eye bags. “I can assure you that not only the work will get done much faster, but you’ll be more productive with a rested body and a peaceful mind.” She kissed his forehead. Hiccup wrapped his arms around her, making her sit in his lap. He savoured the rare peaceful moment he had with his beloved wife. She had the gift of shutting all the voices tormenting his mind and the gentle touch to relax his body in the blink of an eye. She was everything to him. He could be the best version of himself when she’s with him and never took her for granted; not since the betrothal gift incident.
“Just don’t forget you’re still human, there’s so much your body can handle before it shuts down.” She added.
“Yeah, you’re right. I might have been pushing myself pretty hard.” Hiccup replied, raising his head to look at her. There was a warmness to her that he never thought she would ever have; especially directed towards him. He remembered her words of encouragement back on the clifftops, as he was losing hope. I am the person I am today because of you. Over the years, he saw how she started to warm up to him and the rest of the people. She had been trained for years to be this fearless, unemotional warrior. Back then, the fear of losing the people you love was at its peak, so she was quick to learn how to shut her feelings down and just train from dawn till dusk. Today, she was a softer and warmer person; which didn’t mean she was weaker by any means. But with the end of the Dragon War, she has found herself a partner that saw her as an equal. They both found themselves a new purpose in life and didn’t have to fear the threat of a dragon raid any longer, which allowed them to find happiness along the way. They were happy here.
Astrid got off his lap and reached for the soap that was earlier placed at a reachable distance. She looked back at him. “Soak.” And so, he plunged his head underwater before coming back up with his bangs fully covering his eyes. She stifled a laugh as did he. “I haven’t planned to cut your hair today, so I’ll do that next laugardagr, you think you can survive until then?” She started washing his hair with the soap in her hands.
“You made a whole schedule just to help me relax? A schedule? Did I mistakenly marry Fishlegs?” This earned him a pinch on his nipple. “OW! You know they’re sensitive. I did not deserve that!” She laughed as she brought her hands back to massage his scalp. The nipple pinching forgotten, his eyes rolled back into his skull, fully appreciating the head massage. “Ooh yeah, that feels nice.” Astrid brought his bangs back down to cover his eyes and gathered the excess foam and piled it upon his head in the form two horns. She exploded in laughter at the ridiculous sight.  “Wha- Astriiid!“
“You look like Snotlout’s pet yak! Oh Gods- I can’t!” She wheezed.
Hiccup was not impressed and got rid of the foam and swiped his bangs back, exposing his frown. His small smile betrayed him though. It was rare to see Astrid lose composure and in a burst of full-blown laughter. It made him break his frown and laugh with her.
“You, young lady, are in reeeally big trouble. Do you have any idea who I am?”
“Yakkity’s long lost brother?” She joked.
“Okay, that’s it, come here you!” He grabbed her by the waist and started poking her sides, knowing very well she was ticklish there. “I shall not tolerate this type of disrespect on my island.”
She tried to grab his arm, but this time he was prepared and pinned her arms by wrapping an arm around her and continuing tormenting her with the other. How she wished they were fifteen years old again. “N-No- St-Stop!”
“Then say, ‘My husband is the strongest and most handsome Viking in all of Midgard’. Say it.”
“Hahaha, N-not on yo-your life!” Having minimal movement of her arms, Astrid tried to reach downwards instead of fighting the death grip he had around her. She pinched the inside of his thigh, so very close to his precious jewels, making him jump. “Astrid! No!” He stopped tickling her but kept his arm around her.
“I will pinch higher if you don’t let me go, babe.” She tried to catch her breath from all the tickling.
“You’re awful, absolutely awful.” He whined as he let her go.
“You’re lucky this is your relaxation time.” She said, a small glint in her eyes.
“Oh yeah, what kind of torment would you inflict on your poor one-legged husband?” He challenged.
“Something that would require you to use your cane for the next day or so.” She fired back; a small, dangerous smile etched on her face. Hiccup’s eyes widened and he gulped. “But we’re both tired and I did promise to take care of my sweet husband, haven’t I? So, behave.” She flicked his exposed forehead.
“Ow. How did I get myself into this mess?” He rubbed the sore spot.
“You kidnapped me and threw me on top of a tree.” She replied with a straight face.
“Fair enough.”
“Okay, you’ve had soap in your hair for long enough, rinse.” She ordered. He dived in again, washing off the soap.
“Can I wash your hair?” He asked.
“But it’s your time off.”
“Yeah, but it’s yours too. You worked just as hard. You deserve to be taken care of too.” He replied.
“You worked harder.” He rolled his eyes.
“Astrid, this isn’t a competition. I want to take care of my wife. Will you let me?” He grabbed her hand and slowly spun her around in the narrow tub and made her sit between his legs.
“You’re always looking for an excuse to touch my hair.” She jokingly said. There was an element of truth though. He loved touching her hair, combing his fingers through her long strands. Since they have gotten married, he insisted on combing and braiding her hair in the morning. There was just something intimate and therapeutic about touching her hair. She was protective over it, never letting anyone but him touch it. The first time she let down her hair for him was during the incident that left her temporarily blind. She was not able to see how much soot covered her precious hair, so she entrusted it in his care. He remembers his heart beating so fast that he thought it was going to burst from his chest. He felt honoured, and has been craving to touch her beautiful golden locks ever since.
Astrid on the other hand, hated when people touched her hair. It was her pride and joy (after Stormfly and her axe). As a child, every time her mom would braid her hair, she would always pull too hard, leaving her sore. The twins were more chaotic when they were kids. They would get away with anything because kids will be kids. As a prank, they decided it would be funny to set her hair on fire, forcing her to cut it above her shoulders. That day, she saw red and very nearly beat them to death. They were all severely punished for it, but no one has ever attempted to touch her hair ever again. He remembered that day very well, it was probably the first time he saw her cry. That’s when he learned how attached she was to her hair. The way she preened on it every night since they became a couple on the Edge reminded him so much of Stormfly. Her dragon always made sure there was not a single hair out of place after a flight. It amused him how she trusted a dragon more than Vikings to manage her hair. Stormfly had the gentle touch that Astrid craved someone to have. She always wanted her rider to look the best.
“Well?” Astrid asked as she looked back. Hiccup’s thoughts were cut off.
“Oh...Uh yeah, my bad.” He started to massage her scalp as she did him.
“Okay, I’m done. You can rinse.” He said after working on her hair for the past couple of minutes.
She dipped her head underwater and got rid of the soap before emerging again.
“Thanks.” She turned her head and smiled at him.
“I should be thanking you; this whole ‘bath’ idea was yours. It felt nice.” He kissed her exposed shoulder as he embraced her.
“Well, don’t thank me yet. We’re not done.” She patted his hand.
“Not done?”
“What, did you really think that was it? Come on, let’s get out before our skin shrivels up like a prune.” She got out of his arms, turned around, and grabbed him. She helped him up and guided him to the chair, passed him a towel, and proceeded to dry themselves before taking his prosthetic and putting it back on his stump. She started to put her clothes on, so Hiccup followed suit until she stopped him.
“Nuh-uh, just wear a towel, I highly doubt you want your clothes to be stained with oil.”
“What?”
“A massage, Hiccup. I’m going to give you a massage. Gods, even a blind man would know how tense you are just by standing near you.” She answered.
“Why are you getting dressed then? Don’t I get to give you one?”
“Next laugardagr, after I trim that overgrown mop of hair of yours. Gods have mercy on my shears.”
“S-Shears?! And by the way, my hair isn’t that bad!” Hiccup dramatically exclaimed. Astrid rolled her eyes. “I’ve never seen a man with that much hair on their head, I swear if we shave everything off, we’ll have enough to make a scarf. No need for sheep anymore.”
“First, I’m a yak, now I’m a sheep? Is that how you see me, Astrid? Nothing more than livestock? How you wound me.” He brought a hand up to his heart. Astrid let out a cackle.
“You are such a drama queen. Come on, get up your highness, there’s fresh meat to be tenderized before I chop it off and feed it to the village.” She helped him up and headed towards their bedroom.
“Please Astrid, can you be any more creepy?” It was his turn to roll his eyes.
They finally reached their room. The shutters were sealed shut, preventing most of the light to penetrate the room. Candles were illuminated, giving off the same soothing atmosphere as downstairs, cutting them off from the agitated outside world. The bed was covered by a large towel, probably to avoid the oil soak into their sheets. Astrid made her husband lie down on his stomach, removed his prosthetic again, and sat on his butt. She started tracing his back muscles with feathery fingers which made him shivers. While Hiccup was still a lean man, he definitely wasn’t the same fifteen-year-old, shy boy that she found herself falling in love with. He quickly gained muscle mass thanks to dragon-riding and her extensive sword fighting lessons. Just like all the other riders, he started to lose some after the dragons’ departure a year ago. He remained, in her eyes, the most beautiful man ever.
She caressed his back and leaned forward, pressing a kiss between his shoulder blades, making him sigh lovingly. He was clearly enjoying her pampering and she wasn’t about to stop any time soon. She reached for the small vial that was ready to be used from their bedside table and poured the contents in her hands and rubbed them together to heat it up a bit. Astrid proceeded to rub his shoulders first, trying to undo that visible tension. She added her bodyweight as she tried to loosen those knots that caused his painful backaches.
“Mmh, yeah that’s the spot.” Hiccup moaned as she rubbed a specific sore area.  She continued her ministrations for a bit and slowly moved onto his lower once she was satisfied with how loose and relaxed his shoulders became.
“How are you feeling?” She asked while kneading his legs.
“Like a newborn yak.” He replied, his voice muffled by the pillows. She sniggered, happy that he’s enjoying this so much.
Hiccup can’t remember the last time he felt this relaxed. He truly thought he was going to melt into a puddle under her magic hands. He knew he didn’t know when to stop working. His muscles could be aching and his bones could be breaking, but he never stops until someone does or until he collapses. He had big shoes to fill and couldn’t bear to let his village down. Not when his father did a tremendous job at leading. Once Stoick finally admitted to his blindness, he saw so much growth and potential in his son, and Hiccup did his best to uphold what his father saw in him. While Stoick had to lead alone for years, Hiccup couldn’t be any more grateful to have an amazing partner by his side, supporting him. He knew he wouldn’t remain sane had he lost her like his father lost his wife. He was no idiot. He saw how he struggled when his soulmate was believed to be dead and couldn’t possibly see a future without Astrid. She was everything to him and more. The entire village knew that.  They weren’t being led by the Chief and the Chief’s wife. They were Chief and Chieftess. Equals. One couldn’t function without the other. Some would say that they’re too dependent on each other and would lead the tribe to their downfall. But the Berkians knew better. Together, they were stronger than anyone.
“Turn around.” She ordered. And he complied. She sat back on his lap and leaned down to kiss him. He quickly wrapped his arm around her and savoured their kiss. They should do this more often. He missed having some quality time with just her.
Just as his hands started traveling a bit lower, a large grumbling sound resonated across the room. They separated and looked at each other. The couple started laughing.
“Well, someone is hungry. When was the last time you ate?” Astrid asked.
“Honestly, I can’t remember.” He sheepishly replied. She sighed. “Go sit in front of the hearth and let your hair dry. I’ll go grab some food from the Great Hall, I’ll be back soon.” She passed him his prosthetic and headed downstairs, leaving their household on the quest for food.
He doesn’t know how long he had been staring at the flames when she came back, a basket in hand. She approached him and sat on the floor beside him, handing him the food.
“Thank you, Milady.” He smiled at her.
“Sorry about not having any meals prepared at home.” She timidly said, looking down at her bowl of stew. “I tried to cook something from my mom’s recipes but my cooking skills are still pretty subpar. No matter how hard I tried, it just wasn’t perfect.”
He recognized those words. It just wasn’t perfect. That’s why it took them so long to become a couple, to begin with. He knew he was romantic when it comes to being in a relationship. Even before he set his eyes on anyone, he already thought of perfect scenarios with his soulmate. All the gestures and gifts; anything to quench this loneliness he felt as a young boy. He wanted his partner to feel loved. That’s why the medallion incident hit him hard. Since when did he start neglecting Astrid, causing her to feel that exact same loneliness he once felt? He never thought she was a romantic, being a hardcore shieldmaiden most of her life. But he learned that she also longed for love, she was just better at hiding it. At that time, he was still self-conscious. He has never heard her telling him that she loved him, but hearing her share her insecurities, he realized that she has. So many times, through a variation of loving gestures that she reserved for him and only him. He felt guilty for being so blind, which is why he made up for it. She deserved the best. She deserved perfect.
“Hey.” He scooted closer to her, their shoulders bumping. “This seems pretty perfect to me.” She looked at him with wide eyes. “You have no idea how eternally grateful I am to have you. This whole thing you’ve prepared for me is just perfect. I love it. I love you. So much. Whether you managed to cook an intricate meal or just brought food back from the Great Hall wouldn’t have changed anything. You did this for me, and it made me so happy. And I get to spend some time with you. I couldn’t ask for more, Astrid. Thank you.”  He tenderly kissed her lips.
“I’m glad.” She paused. “And relieved.” She confessed, a smile on her lips.
They happily ate in silence, occasionally striking a conversation or just randomly stole a kiss from each other; just enjoying each other’s presence.
Their empty bowls were cast aside as they cuddled in front of the fire; savouring this rare moment of peace and quiet. Hiccup ran his fingers through her now dry hair.
“Will you let me braid your hair?” She looked at him for a few seconds before nodding and turning her back to him. He delicately combed through her silky golden tresses with his fingers, undoing the small knots and separated her hair into three parts. He expertly twisted the locks in a loose braid. Usually, Astrid wouldn’t braid her hair when going to bed as it provided a thin layer of heat for her neck. Winter in New Berk was just as merciless as Old Berk, but right now, they were approaching the hottest days of the year. While the air was still cool when evening came, she didn’t need that much coverage as the fire heated the room to a perfect temperature.
Astrid passed the leather band that was hanging on her wrist to her husband as he finished tending her hair. He attached it and swept her hair over her shoulder. Placing a light peck on the nape. She shivered at the contact and fell back, trusting Hiccup to catch her, which he did. He pressed his lips on her now accessible forehead. She laid in his arms for a while, just relishing the feeling of having his arms around her and the small, tickling kisses all across her face.
“Is this what you’ve been up to the whole time when you said you wanted to go home?” He asked.
“The failed cooking took most of my time.” She lamented.
“Did you have time to rest?” Astrid looked away. She knew she needed extra time to do the cooking, but she didn’t expect to fail that hard. In the end, it took much more time than she expected. Not that she felt like she needed a break, her husband needed it more than she did. But she was hoping to have more quality time with him. Unfortunately, after the fourth try, she decided to throw the towel.
“I’ll rest when you do.” Just as she said that the blonde Viking let out a yawn.
“Well, someone is getting tired.” Hiccup teased.
“I’ve been tired since our beloved Goddess Sol decided to show off all her glory even more so than usual.” Hiccup fought back a yawn that didn’t go unnoticed by his wife. “Seems like I’m not the only one that’s tired. Come on babe, let’s get you to bed.” She freed herself from his embrace and got up, lending a hand to help her husband up too. They headed upstairs, leaving the dirty dishes for tomorrow.
Once in their bedroom again, they undressed and put on their thin nightwear, hoping to finally get a comfortable night of sleep. They got in bed and Hiccup spooned her, letting her get comfortable in his arms. They sighed in content.
“Astrid?” He hesitantly called out, hoping she didn’t already fall asleep.
“Hmm?”
“Thank you.”
“You know you don’t need to thank me”
“I know, but you always seem to know what I need before I even do. So, I want to thank you. I really appreciate it. I love you, Milady.” He kissed the back of her head.
She squeezed his hand that was resting around her waist. “I love you too.” She sleepily answered.
He tightened his arms around her as he let sleep consume him.
Gods, how he loved that woman.
oOo
So this one-shot was written while I was writing another Hiccstrid story. I just needed a break since I was having a writer's block and I desperately needed some heartwarming fluff because the other one is heavy, at least for me it is. This one-shot could possibly have a potential smut scene one day, I just have no idea how to write those yet.
The other story will be posted soon, depending on how inspired I am. It's either going to be a long one-shot or a short chaptered fiction. To this day, I have written around 11K words, and it could possibly reach 20K. All I'm going to reveal for now is that Astrid is going to have a bad time. Hopefully you guys will be interested.
Also, would anyone be interested in a separate one-shot on how Astrid got that scar? I don't know why, I love Astrid so much that I need to read/write Astrid!Whump fics.
