hiiiiiii ✌🏻 ur blog brings me so much joy and fascination!! im particularly fond of the legless lizards right now. did the legs come first? or was it the lizards? and when did they break up?
thanks for sharing ur love with the world! 💖
thank you so much booboo.
i also love legless lizards. snakes and all (other) groups of legless lizards evolved from lizards that had 4 legs. there are different groups of legless lizards that evolved from legged lizards at different times throughout the evolutionary history of lizards. you can even see some lizards that are not quite legless but have tiny functionless legs.

hey there pyporapy
What's the favorite food of your oc's? And also, what is the food that they ABSOLUTELY despise?
Hello!!!
Both Grisha and Viktoria Really like soup (solyanka and shchi respectively), but it’s kind of because of different reasons. Grisha needs whatever pick-me-up he can get so he likes his sour soup, and Viktoria prioritizes reliability, so if she can make her soup fairly easily and freeze it to take wherever she goes she will do that. So, that being said, Grisha doesn’t like anything Too bland and Viktoria still can’t get used to meals that are too elaborate.
By virtue of being 100% British, Laura hasn’t exactly won the cuisine lottery (/j), but she really enjoys Scottish cuisine and, specifically, cullen skink, aka smoked haddock chowder (hehe, more soup). It’s quite a simple dish and it’s actually more of a starter, but what she likes is precisely its simplicity and good taste. On the other hand, and not to disgrace her home city, but Liverpool cuisine is…… interesting….. so, she can probably eat it, but she would rather not doing so.
In Felix’s case, he has Actually won the cuisine lottery by virtue of being ecuadorian (🙌🦅🔥🇪🇨), but even with all the dishes that ecuadorian cuisine has to offer, he prefers the little things in life, so patacones are his favorite. You can do just about anything with verde, and you can make it be the only thing you eat the rest of your life (even though you probably shouldn’t…), but in the UK that shit is expensive!! So patacones can be an actual delicacy!!! And he treats them as such!!! They’re pretty reliable too; they’re quick to cook so you cook a shit ton and you can take them anywhere, eat them with anything, and they can be quite fulfilling. He’s the type of person to try any food put in front of him but if I wanted to say he didn’t like a food….. he looks like he doesn’t like fish. Idk he just has that vibe…
I’m gonna be honest I can’t picture Cain eating. Either he just photosynthesizes or has a cigarette and bong water for breakfast idk. If he’s ever desperate enough he probably just eats a handful of communion wafers, pretends he’s eating paper (which tbh isn’t That hard), and moves on with his life. In all seriousness he just has the vibe of someone that doesn’t play about breakfast. Does that make sense.
And Gabrijel…… he probably eats some weird expensive shit unbeknownst to all of us normal people with real tastebuds. Because of his Czech roots, he really likes pork, but he can probably only eat like. Iberian pork. Nothing more and nothing less. Also if I gave him ají he’d probably die but that’s another topic
Thank you for your ask, this was fun to do!!! I’m hungry now hehehe

Hey random question- I’m moving to Scotland soon from England and I’m trying to decide where to live. If you’ve got time/energy I’m curious about what living in Glasgow’s like?
i love it here honestly (moved here from my native london in 2014). by and large people are incredibly friendly and helpful - the motto is "people make glasgow" for a reason much as we all mock it* and it's a very vibrant city with a metric fuckton of awesome food places (there are even just like... so many vegan places it's unreal. if you care about that), cool street art, and music/nightlife. i don't really use it much myself because paying to go less than 4 miles offends me on a spiritual level but the bus network is good
be forewarned however that it is the wettest city in the uk** and also hella windy. owning an umbrella is a pointless excercise. there's very rarely less than a stiff breeze happening.
calling glaswegians @learnorlose @thesealfriend @stanedyke @cullen-skink and temporary glaswegian @sinothetimes to add on. or violently disagree with me. *it may be true but it's still twee as fuck **we kind of go back and forth with cardiff on that one and typically it depends on whether you measure # of days with rain or amount of rain. normally glasgow has more wet days, but cardiff gets more by volume

slàinte, mo ghràdh - Fic Meta
A meta post for my fluff fic, slàinte, mo ghràdh! I'll put the meta thoughts in after a cut, as usual.
-
The Fic's Title
The title, "slàinte, mo ghràdh", is Gaidhlig / Scottish Gaelic for "cheers, my love". I'm not a fluent Gaidhlig speaker but I am learning, and I'm really fond of it as a language. Gaidhlig is really incredibly important to our culture, especially because speaking our native Scottish languages was actually illegal here for a long time as part of an assimilation effort to "civilise" the Highlands. Very few people speak our languages here, now, but we're working hard to try and keep our languages alive. I thought this would be a nice way to include it.
-
Real Places
Lots of the places in this fic are real places in Edinburgh! The museum, of course, is real.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hotel they stayed in is also real, and I even looked ahead of time to see what their rooms would look like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The restaurant they went to get the cranachan is the Abbotsford Bar and Restaurant, since I'd read that their cranachan is good and gets recommended by Edinburgh locals. The main street is, of course, real, and the park they went to when it was snowing is The Meadows, the same place where the torch procession started.
The horse statues at the end are The Kelpies, giant horse head statues which light up at night and look incredible in the snow. They're bigger than you might think just from looking at pictures!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
-
Foods Mentioned
Most food mentioned in this fic is real.
Rumbledethump is a real cabbage dish here, made with cabbage, potato, swede, and cheese, and you can get it in little pastries sometimes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cranachans are a real dessert here, and a very historical one, originally made to celebrate the autumn harvests :) they're great, although usually better when made at home rather than eaten at a restaurant.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sticky toffee pudding is INCREDIBLE and one of the best things we've got. That sauce could heal any wounds. It's meant to come with hot sauce to drench the cake, and the ice cream melts into it. UGH I could die.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Curry stuffed naan is a real thing you can get at our Christmas markets in Edinburgh - curry is also pretty widely loved in the UK. Tikka Masala was invented here by a Bangladeshi-Scottish man, Ali Ahmed Aslam, back in the 1970s! Phall was also invented in Birmingham. The UK really likes curry.
Cock-a-leekie is a real soup here. It's just chicken and leek soup. Cullen skink is also a real meal here, and it's a thick haddock soup. Seafood and fish is very commonly eaten here, and salmon is especially good in Scotland. We do seafood right.
I disagree fundamentally with "British food sucks" jokes because honestly, I feel like people who say that haven't tried actual British food. British is not synonymous with English; Britain is a collection of several countries which includes England, and just using Scotland as an example, we have some really fantastic foods. It's sad to me to see it get written off when so much of Scottish culture has had to fight tooth and nail just to exist after centuries of assimilation efforts. Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland are all countries in our own right and our cultures - and tastes in food - exist independently from England.
-
Hogmanay
New Year is focused on a little more in this fic, and there's a reason for that - generally, New Year is a bigger holiday in Scotland than Christmas, and there's historical context for it. Christmas was actually made illegal here back in the 1600s, and as a result, Hogmanay (or New Year) became a large celebration in its own right. The Scots LOVE Hogmanay, and New Year celebrations in Edinburgh is a festival which lasts several days, including the torch procession (a LOT of our celebrations include fire), ceilidh, live music festivals, drinking pub nights, and fireworks etc.
The ban on Christmas was lifted about seventy years later, but Hogmanay was still a huge celebration, and it's an important part of our lives, now.
-
Clothes
The ugly sweaters mentioned in the fic are real.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The nicer ones are also real, and I really like them! Truly though, they're not warm enough to keep you cosy in the snow. You need a thick coat, winter boots, and probably also a hat/gloves/scarf for that. The cold here is no joke; even though the temperatures don't look that cold, Scotland is so humid and wet that it's really impossible to escape and it burrows deep. I know people who live through -20C Canadian winters with no problem but HATE wintering in Scotland because it's miserable, even if it's not that cold on paper.

I hope this isn't a stupid question; in the UK we're in the middle of another heat wave, with more on the horizon, and I've been concerned about my snakes (2, a corn snake and a BP) and lizards (2, a blue tongue skink and beardie) and the possibility of them over heating.
For the lizards, I've turned down their thermostats, and their heat lamps both dim/turn off when a certain temperature is hit. I've taken to bathing my beardie every few days, and my blue tongue hides under his substrate, so I keep that nice and damp.
For my BP and corn snake, they both have ceramic heaters, and for both of them I've simply turned them off. Houses in the UK keep heat in, and the temperatures in the snake vivariums is exceeding the highest temperature to keep them in, even with their heaters off. They both also have coconut coir substrate which I spray daily and is damp, and I've noticed them both digging and hiding in it to stay cool, presumably.
Is there anything more I can do to make them comfortable while the heat is so bad? Is turning the ceramic heaters off going to do more harm, than good? I've seen people talking about putting ice in their water dishes, but that seems like it would be a very drastic temperature change if they took a drink or anything... I apologise if this has been asked before. There's not a lot of information for what to do with reptiles in a heat wave.
Many thanks for answering, appreciate everything you do here. You're a fountain of knowledge. :)
It sounds like you're doing pretty much everything you can! Turning their CHEs off was absolutely the way to go, and they're indeed burrowing to stay cool. I advise against putting ice in water dishes - it's indeed too cold if they tried to drink/swim in it, and it's a band-aid solution anyway.
One thing that works pretty reliably - if you have a fan, I recommend wetting some towels in cool water and draping them over any ventilation spots in the enclosure (like screen lids, doors, etc.) and then turning the fan on them. That can be pretty great for keeping enclosures cooler.
Here's hoping things cool down for you all soon! You're doing a great job so far, but be on the lookout for any signs your reptiles are overheating (especially the snakes, they can be sensitive). Keep an eye out for open-mouthed breathing, extremely restless behavior, and especially any neurological symptoms, and take them to the vet right away if you spot that.

I got tagged by @rockcandyshrike to do a wee music meme post and I’m gonna follow her example and do my top 10 most RECENT repeated songs because that’s more interesting than just my top 10 repeated songs. gives it a lil summer snapshot. I find that I mostly listen to metal and prog in the winter whereas as soon as the sun is actually warm I remember funk and classical exists lmao
1. Breakwater - Release the Beast
However hard you might imagine this song goes, you’re not ready for it!!! Heard this for the first time before the Coheed show the other night, immediately recognised a part of it being the origin sample for the entire daft punk song “robot rock”. This is so insanely good, and my discovery of it coinciding with actual summer weather means I’ve been blasting it while driving around with my windows down nonstop lmao. You’re welcome fellow citizens. The beast is fucking released
2. Bilmuri - BOUTTA CASHEW
Just because it’s summer doesn’t mean I stop listening to metal and post-hxc… Bilmuri have never failed me except for the fact that they never tour the UK. The danciest tongue-in-cheek bangers this side of dance gavin dance
3. Halogen - U Got That
SPEAKING OF DANCE!! Who among us can resist a house drop when it’s this chonky. I heard this on a tiktok meme shared to tumblr that I had to do like 3 levels of googling to understand because I’m an old woman. But this song makes me actually want to go to a club for the second time ever in my crone life
4. Caroline Polachek - Caroline Shut Up
I had heard a snippet of one of her songs ages ago and it didn’t wow me, but I gave her new album a try and holy moly!! Really interesting acrobatic vocals plus lush dense intricate dramatic varied production… im in love. Even though this is actually from her first album, it’s the best example of what I like about her stuff. She’s like a mix of Bjork and 90s Madonna and Enya and Imogen Heap. And brother I’m nothing if not a Heaphead. Caroline pls come to Scotland
5. Maria Callas - O Mio Babbino Caro
I got this song stuck in my head and of course it’s so hard to sing along to a soprano aria, but I specifically love this Callas version because the way she really takes her time with the phrasing emphasises the longing of it and it makes me cry
6. bel canto - A Shoulder to the Wheel
Recently discovered there’s a name for an artistic aesthetic I have VIVID memory and nostalgia for from the mid-late 90s - the name of the aesthetic is Global Village Coffeehouse. I found a 50 hour gvc playlist on spotify and have been finding banging new music one of which is this song!! I love the propulsive synths and drums and the DRAMA… let it wash over u
7. Chris Rea - On The Beach
It’s got to be this specific single version not the slower album one! My whole life I only knew Rea as the singer of a pretty great xmas song until this April when my beloved pal added this to our Highland roadtrip playlist. If this doesn’t get you feeling like a neon-soaked sweaty lounge-lizard having a hallucinatory tango under a palm tree with a sexy extra from Miami Vice idk what will
8. Aviations - Coma
Is it really a joe skinks music post if there’s not a 10 minute prog metal song………….
I’m hoping their last two singles this year mean we have an imminent album incoming and it’s gonna SLAP as hard as the rest of their output! Aviations embody everything I love most and seek out in my prog metal; super agile clean AND harsh vocals interacting with the extreme amount of syncopation and intricacy in the instrumental arrangements. Aviations use piano in their compositions better than any other prog band I enjoy. I mean listen to this shit it’s beautiful
9. Stereophonics - Pick A Part That’s New
I had a really fun time making a playlist of songs I remember my parents always playing in my childhood, it’s full of a lot of 90s soul and electronic music and also this… whiny britpop. But it surprised me how much fantastic whiny britpop there is
10. Sumerlands - Force of a Storm
My brother introduced me to this album and it truly fucks how much they sound like an old-school Heavy Metal band while being fully contemporary. Like they truly sound like Sabbath or Iron Maiden but with modern production sensibilities. I LOVE the strength of this guy’s voice. Like if this doesn’t make you feel like a barbarian riding a winged steed and brandishing a massive sword against a dragon drawn by Frank Frazetta idk what will. Can u tell fantasising is how I process music
I will tag @shrikestrike @acuzena @lungtile @kitsune-sam @wordssometimesfail @kelsey-arts @erebones and whomstever else wants to… of course nobody has to if they don’t want

Finnie I'm intrigued by your breakfast discourse stuff, I know virtually nothing of UK food other than the stuff that's been memed to death, what's your favorite dishes :o??
- E.F.
is this where i confess that i don't actually like all that much homegrown stuff? ;-; it' all so fishy (island) and i don't like anything that comes out of the sea (or any water)
thank god for the countless waves of immigration we saw in our past that brought good things like chip shop food, italian food, curries, chinese food, but ah, alas, the autism: i eat like a toddler (an american toddler i guess) because i exist on mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, chips and pizza u-u
if you're gonna try scottish food and you like fish and don't mind strange textures might i recommend
cullen skink, cranachan, porridge (but proper scottish porridge, and put salt on it because that's the best), scotch pies (yummy goodness), and tablet!
