Transformers robots in disguise 2015 "the Shadow lurks:
chapter 3: dwelling
Jetstorm awoke with a gasp, he'd had another nightmare.
He pulled his knees up to his chest as tears rolled from his optics, he could feel his whole frame trembling.
He hated these nightmares, but he just couldn't get rid of them, why couldn't they just go away.
Sighing he got up from his berth and grabbed the music player Sideswipe had gotten him for his birthday a few months ago and as quietly as he could left their room to get a cube of energon.
After drinking the energon cube he sat atop the ledge overlooking the scrapyard.
He reached over for his music player and for a while simply basked in the melodious feeling that the music provided.
He sat like this for a while before getting up and deciding to head back to the scrapyard.
As he got up, the song "creep" started playing on Jetstorm's music player.
Despite the overall dark tone of the song he rather liked it, in a way it resonated with him.
The song played as he walked back down to the scrapyard and through the gates.
He came to a stop in front of a stasis pod and shuddered at the form inside.
It was him.
Even unconscious Shadow Raker's form seemed to sneer down at him, Jetstorm shivered at the unpleasant memories just looking at his former master gave him, yet at the same time he couldn't look away.
Jetstorm was worried that Shadow Raker would break out and most likely come after him and his brother.
Drift had assured both him and Slipstream that the pod was sealed tight and there was no way Shadow Raker would escape.
But for once Jetstorm didn't fully believe his teacher.
He knew fine well Shadow Raker has escaped far worse than this and he had a nagging suspicion thst he wasn't quite through seeing his former master yet.
Unable to look at the pod anymore Jetstorm went to the command center and sat down against the cold metal exterior that was the former front section of the Alchemor.
He reached for his music player and turned it back on.
Jetstorm could feel his optics becoming heavier and heavier and at some point the darkness swallowed him whole.
Meanwhile Optimus was approaching the command center.
He had gone for a night time drive, as he often did to try and relax and was just returning.
When he returned he recognised the faint sound of what he recognised as Music playing from near the command center.
He arrived at the command center and saw a form he recognised as Jetstorm passed out in front of him.
Worried he knelt down and performed a quick scan of the young minicon relieved to find he was only recharging.
However he decided he would have Ratchet check him over just in case.
Comming Ratchet to meet him at the medical tent Optimus picked up Jetstorm and carried him with ease to the medical tent.
Ratchet met him at the tent alongside Drift.
"Is he alright?" Drift asked looking extremely worried.
"He's fine Drift, I just want Ratchet to run a few scans just to be sure." Optimus said.
Drift nodded though he didn't look very reassured.
Optimus lay Jetstorm down on the berth.
Ratchet ran his scanner over the young minicon.
Once that was done he looked at the results.
"Drift, has he been sleeping?" Ratchet asked.
"He says he has, but I honestly doubt he has." Drift said.
"Well he definitely hasn't, he hasn't slept in 2 weeks, his systems eventually crashed as a result." Ratchet said.
"What can I do to help him?" Drift asked.
"I'm going to give him a sedative to help him tonight, but I suggest trying to talk to him, if he won't talk to you I would suggest someone who knows how to deal with trauma like his." Ratchet said.
"Windblade mentioned she had a friend named Chromia who is a therapist, she said she would talk to her about getting her to talk to Jetstorm, I may have her talk to Slipstream as well, he hasn't said so but I believe he is also suffering." Drift said.
"Good idea, I know very well about this sort of thing." Ratchet said nodding.
Ratchet went to prep the sedative.
Drift looked over at Jetstorm who had begun to stir.
"Huh, what's going on?" Jetstorm asked in a panicked voice looking around rapidly.
Before Drift could do anything Optimus went over to Jetstorm and put a reassuring hand on his shoulder.
"Everything is alright, you should be resting young one." Optimus said in a reassuring voice.
"I can't, I'm scared." Jetstorm said tears streaming from his optics.
"Everything is alright little one, you're safe." Optimus said rubbing Jetstorm's shoulder comfortingly.
Something the prime said must of worked because Jetstorm closed his optics and was immediately fast asleep.
"It comes from experience." Optimus said seeing the suprised look on Drift's face.
Ratchet administered the sedative and after a moment allowed Drift to take Jetstorm back to the ship.
Slipstream was awake when Drift returned.
"Is he alright, master Drift?" Slipstream asked.
"He is fine now Slipstream." Drift said setting Jetstorm down on his berth.
Drift sighed before looking at Slipstream.
"Slipstream, a friend of Windblade is coming tomorrow to...talk with you and Jetstorm." Drift said.
"You mean a therapist." Slipstream said seeing right through Drift's words.
"Yes." Drift said nodding.
Slipstream was about to speak but Drift interrupted.
"And before you say you don't need it, you do, you are just as upset as Jetstorm is, you were trying to hide it but I can tell, I know you well enough Slipstream." Drift said.
Slipstream sighed and nodded, admittedly he was extremely tense, and had been since Shadow Raker had been captured, but he thought he'd gotten good at hiding it by now.
Drift seemed to notice what Slipstream was thinking and pulled the young minicon closer, very much like you would an upset child.
Slipstream and Jetstorm basically were kids.
"You shouldn't have to hide your feelings Slipstream, they are every bit as important to me as everybody else's, I don't want you to be upset or scared to communicate how you feel." Drift said.
Slipstream tensed visibly then sighed.
"Admittedly I am worried master, he has escaped far worse than this in the past and if he does escape, he could hurt me and Jetstorm again." Slipstream said.
"Listen to me Slipstream, you are my students and therefore my responsibility, if he wants to get near you, he'll have to pry you from my sparkless husk." Drift said.
Slipstream seemed slightly reassured but Drift could tell he was still worried.
"Rest Slipstream, we will discuss this more in the morning." Drift said.
Slipstream nodded and lay down falling back to sleep.
Drift watched both his students for a moment to make sure they were both peacefully resting before laying down and falling asleep himself.
Cybertron:
Chromia looked over the two files she was given.
Windblade had contacted her earlier in the day and asked if she could speak to a close friend's, pupils as she put it.
She was now studying the files before she left.
Name: Slipstream
Age: 15
Personality: loyal, kind, humble, slightly stubborn
Issues that need addressing: will often not talk about issues that bother him, doesn't believe his opinions are valid despite being told they are, will often bottle up anger or stress and won't discuss it
Chromia frowned, that certainly wasn't good, she'd dealt with this sort of thing herself and she knew it was never good to bottle up stress or anger.
However she was confident she could get through to him.
She turned to the other file.
Name: Jetstorm
Age: 12
Personality: kind, loyal, brave, stubborn, humorous, adventurous and full of energy
He also loves music
Issues that need addressing: like Slipstream he often won't talk about issues that bother him, will often close himself off when upset, severe lack of confidence in himself despite reassurance from others, like Slipstream will often bottle up anger or stress
Chromia's frown deepened as she read Jetstorm's file, clearly she was going to have her work cut out with these two, but she was going to do her best to help them.
She packed a few things then went to her assistant Moonracer.
"Moonracer, I need to leave for a little while, could you take charge while I'm gone?" She asked.
"Of course." Moonracer said nodding.
Chromia thanked her and left.
As she left she got on the comm, she knew another bot who could help her, a bot she knew would also be very happy to return to Earth.

G1 Decepticons having a tentative truce with Animated Decepticons.
Tfa Optimom shows up with a small Soundwave.
Tfa Megatron: And what brings you here this time Little Magnus?
Tfa Optimom: Dropping off your son, it’s your turn with him. Now where is my little girl?
Sari was asleep in his hand. He hands them over.
Tfa Optimom: Wake up my little Flier.
They leave and TFA Soundwave looks up at TFA Megatron.
Tfa Soundwave: Inquiry, Father Im hungry.
Tfa Megatron: I don’t care, go to the-
Tfa Soundwave kicks him in the leg.
Tfa Soundwave: Sister correct, you are ugly. Sister correct, she is nothing like you.
He walks a way and proceeds to cling to G1 Soundwave’s leg.
Tfa Soundwave: Soundwave, hungry. Please feed.
He gets fed and plays with the cassettes. He refuses to leave his side until Optimom comes to pick him up.
G1 Starscream: I do have to ask, is… your Optimus really… a femme?
Tfa Megatron: Yes, she has also stolen not only my wards but the wards of my worlds Starscream.
Optimom: I did not steal them, they chose me. Besides, the court of law legally said they are under my care.
Tfa Slipstream: You should have seen her destroying them in court. By all accounts she shouldn’t have been able to have any claim on Soundwave- but she did.
Optimom: I also have some claim over the seekers! Well joint claim with Skyfire. Starscream was so mad he lost them to us.
One of the G1 Decepticons tries to flirt with Optimom but G1 Soundwave just lifts her up and runs off with her. Over protective much. She not that young! She’s an adult!
When a G1 Autobot tries to flirt with her all of a sudden she has a dad with the same name as her (before she became Magnus of course) trying to scare and threaten bots and cons a way from her and her kids.
The G1 seekers generally enjoy the younger Tfa Seekers need for constant hugging.
————-
Tfa Slipstream alone with G1 Starscream: I hate you.
She hugs him: I don’t ever want to you to die.
He’s crying now because no one is going to believe that she said that.

Warlord Twitch
Cliffjumper about to show Smokescreen something both cool and stupid
Bulkhead running up from behind to save the baby
Yes while Mirage and Blades weren't allowed near the cells Slipstream and Cyclonus were given free rein. Slipstream was just walking along when she came across Starscream and she noticed that his build was similar to hers and her moms' and she got curious. While Starscream will at most give her a three word response Hashtag will talk with her a little bit when slipstream gets mad at Starscream
When Optimus comes back he looks bad, he's all scuffed up, whiles he's not bleeding many of those dents look pretty nasty and there are definitely some new scars. Megatron is equally pissed and happy to see him and when he first appears elita was more pissed than happy, but she forgave him (eventually). But lots of hugs and cuddles and Megatron and Elita taking care of their injured husband
Yeppp yep awww yes, yes cliffy get yourself into trouble for the sake of fun
Interesting that Slip and Cyc got different rules than Blades and Mirage, and Starscream and Hashtag's responses make sense
Damnn Oppy, now receive some well needed TLC and nagging from your worried husband and wife like Optimus my dude everyone thought you were dead, take some comfy blankets and one of those dent popper things

ten random lines!
rules: pick any ten of your fics, scroll to the midpoint, pick a line (or three) and share it. then tag ten people.
i was tagged by @five-wow ✨ ❤️ ✨
and i’ll tag... oh that is so many people i cannae tag that many people. and most of the people i’d tag have already been picked up so @faorism @gallantrejoinder @thomtrebond and that will do since it’s already taken me like five days of having this post open in a tab and occasionally dropping back into it. Seven worth of You, Yes You Reading This if you’d like to
in no particular order, semi-randomly selected from the first page of my ao3:
-
1. I Would Break Into Your House Just To Put Sugar In Your Tea (H50)
Steve doesn’t let go of Danny’s shoulders once they’re upright. Instead, as Eddie clacks around their feet grumbling about the foiling of his plan, he runs his hands down Danny’s bare arms. He’s looking at Danny with an oddly intense expression, and for a baffling second it seems like he’s about to hold Danny’s hands.
But he stops at his forearms, and does something far more baffling. He leans down and kisses him.
2. Writing Your Name In Indelible Pencil (S&H)
“Yeah, okay. Of course I’d noticed you. Guy who looks like he should be modelling briefs in an angel costume somewhere, and instead he was a neurotic mess hunched over in the front row chewing on a pencil.”
“I did not look like an underwear model.”
“Well, maybe that was hopes and overactive imagination, huh? I saw it clear enough in my head, full centerfold. Aw, babe, you’re blushing.”
3. Lips Like Sugarcane (H50)
“Huh,” Steve said. “You want to come swimming with me?”
“Do I- no, I do not want to come swimming with you. I’ve told you how I feel about swimming. Besides,” besides, what he definitely did not need after this morning was to see Steve half-naked in the water. “I have all these baked goods to spruce now,” he finished instead, waving around at the – somewhat meagrely filled, because he’d been expecting the lack of customers, but still filled – racks and cases.
4. i’m all yours (just show me you want me) (SPN)
“Cas, I- you- that-” Dean shuts up again and drops his head, staring down at his empty hands. He’s never even been any good at motivational speeches, let alone romantic ones. Stick to the facts. “I love you.”
5. Raspberry Sours (Leverage)
Eliot just nods, because he’s not sure he trusts himself to open his mouth without his voice cracking. Hardison murmurs, “Oh,” and opens his arms. “Hug?”
Eliot nods again, and lets himself walk into Hardison, who immediately wraps his arms around him.
6. there’s a crack in everything i hold close to my soul (H50)
“That dog has no right to be jealous of anyone when it comes to you. I actually think if someone was holding a gun to your head and telling you to choose between me or him you’d pick him.”
“You can defend yourself better,” Steve points out. “And you’d figure out a way to take down the guy with the gun.”
7. Calling The Shots (S&H)
“I got hustled.”
“Yeah. You don’t trust easy.”
The words of this conversation – more monologue than conversation – feel like they’re in a slipstream, sliding between meanings. “You gonna take your shot?”
8. Come Take The Wheel (don’t you wanna save me? don’t you wanna own me?) (S&H)
He’d been standing in front of the coffee corner for probably a full minute by now, staring blankly and thinking about dates and Hutch and Hutch-on-dates, which was all a delightfully abstract way of not dealing with his very concrete desire to kiss Hutch and hold him and buy a house and 2.5 golden retrievers with him, as well a decent variety of other less family-friendly activities, and the fact that said desire had driven him to Huggy’s at four in the afternoon to pickle himself like a sardine. Did sardines get pickled? Or was that anchovies. No, it was herring. Pickle himself like a herring.
He flipped the kettle on and went to down a glass of water while it boiled.
9. boy, it’s nights like this that I know why (NCIS: LA)
Callen watched the road in silence for a while, and was just considering the viability of trying to swing back around to the ‘oh yeah you apparently had an hour-long panic attack’ subject when Sam took the decision out of his hands by declaring, a little too harshly, “You died, you know that? In the ambulance, while I was sitting next to you, you died.”
10. Advent Calendar 2022 - the girl of the moment (many fandoms, although this happens to be the only MASH chapter)
“Who knew decorating for Chrismukkiversaries could be so exhausting?”
“Well, maybe if you hadn’t decided to name it something with so many letters,” Peg complained, gesturing at the banner over the couch that read ‘Happy Chrismukkiversary!’ inscribed in a variety of Erin’s crayons and decorated with an artful splash of glitter.

Agree with you on all counts. And don’t care if it means being a fake tifosa.
It’s a race where I wish if Charles can’t I want Max to win. I really cannot take a Carlos win in Monza. Not this season not when Charles commented on the goals for this years car not being right and we know they tried to make it comfortable for Carlos (not the only issue but as we’ve seen last year whenever they said they did something to help Carlos the car turned shitty compared to RB).
Charles race pace was good on FP, but I’m scared of Ferrari strategy as always especially favoring Carlos since he got pole. And we know how Carlos is when he has to do something for the team. As you said the quali slipstream : it’s better for Charles not to have it, his teammate will just block him out of nowhere and play coy after. Or again Austria sprint last year when he tried to fight Charles while the goal was to save tires and win (which Charles did on Sunday). We know the man wants to beat Charles and it’ll be worse tomorrow.
Also I can’t take it if the only non redbull win, or only Ferrari win this year is in Monza and it’s not Charles. But with his « luck » (his bad luck being almost entirely driving for Ferrari) … we spoiled him of Monaco wins twice, Monaco podium this year at least two more podium in the first two races too … he needs a break and I know I won’t like the narrative after if it happens.
Also Charles side tending to be the worst putting a car together I kind of live in fear of some mechanical issue every weekend anyway.
Send you hugs, anon. And totally agree with you about all point you’ve highlighted. I think Max will win it anyway so maybe it was done just for hype from Ferrari like last year in Monza.
I actually didn’t mind another Ferrari win because it would make Charles and tifosi happy. I’m 100% sure that Charles would be happy even if it’s not him. But I don’t want this person anywhere near Ferrari after 2024, so I don’t want to give this camp something to be used in contractmanipulations. Also, remembering that Binotto, God forgive me for saying devil’s name outloud, is there, it might be motivation for Carlos to do his best, to show that Binotto did everything right last season. And I can’t take it.
I just hope that everything will be ok from Charles’ side of the garage. And probably I need to buy a sedative lol.

Life's New Adventures and Secrets
Chapter 5
~~~~~~~~~~
Nightback felt something on his back, looking up he saw his father's arm wrapped around him, "Dad?"
Slowly Steeljaw's optics opened. Strongarm looked up, "Steeljaw?"
"Are you alright, Strongarm?" He groaned softly.
"Yes, I'm just happy you're okay," she says as she hugs him. He groaned from the hug but he didn't mind a little pain if it was from his mate. She buried her face into his neck, "I was so scared I lost you."
"You could never lose me, I'm too stubborn to leave you two."
She smiles, "I know. Your son almost got himself killed looking for revenge."
"What? How?"
"Mom," Nightback whined, gritting his teeth.
"He and his friends had a run-in with two Wolf-Cons while looking for the Wolf-Con that hurt you."
"You did what?!"
"I was upset about you getting hurt, I wanted to get the Wolf-Con who hurt you. I'm sorry."
Trying to stay calm Steeljaw cleared his throat, "I know you were only trying to help but you could have gotten hurt, possibly even killed. Don't do it again."
"I know, I won't. I'm sorry, Dad."
"You're lucky Metalsound, Predaking, and Grimlock went after you three," Strongarm put in.
"Yeah, I know," Nightback said.
"Did something happen to Emberwing?" Steeljaw asked after noticing Thunderhoof and Metalsound on the other side of Med Bay with Emberwing lying on a berth.
"One of the Wolf-Cons scratched her leg pretty badly, but she should be okay," Strongarm replied casting a concerned glance to Metalsound and Thunderhoof. "Jetstorm and Slipstream were also in here but they left with Drift a bit ago after waking up. Thankfully, they were only banged up a bit."
Thunderhoof walks over to them, causing Nightback to whimper in fear, "Hey, Thunderhoof," Steeljaw greeted his old friend.
"Hey, how are you feelin'?"
"Sore, but good."
"I'm just glad you're okay. We can have someone else look after Emberwing. You're going to need your rest."
"Thanks, buddy."
"How is she?" Strongarm asked, worried for the young femme.
"She's recovering."
"That's good. Has she said anything?"
"Only that she knew she had to get as far away from them as she could, and she wasn't leaving the boys behind," Thunderhoof explained.
"Well, thankfully she didn't leave them behind."
"Yeah, she has a good sense of loyalty. Also, she's grounded for tomorrow."
"Um, Thunderhoof, sir?" Nightback asked hesitantly.
"Yes, Nightback."
"Don't be too hard on Emberwing, she tried telling me that it wasn't a good idea. I'm sorry."
"Thank you, Nightback," he said before walking off.
"That was very nice of you, Nightback," Steeljaw said, "And you're grounded too."
"I know," Nightback said with his ears folded back.
"He gets that from you," Strongarm said with a giggle.
"You know you love it," Steeljaw said as he folded his own ears back.
"Like father like son. But yes I do love it, just looks too adorable not to."
"Make sure you don't keep him up too long," Ratchet warned Strongarm, "He still needs his rest."
"I'm not. You rest now," she says looking at her mate.
"OK, I'll still be here in the morning. You listen to your mother," he told Nightback as he hugged them both.
"I will, Dad."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Metalsound sighed as she looked up at the stars. The day just kept replaying in her processor, Steeljaw had gotten hurt. She went to sit with Strongarm to make sure she was okay. Her daughter followed after the boys and she got hurt. It scared her to think of what would have happened if she, Predaking, and Grimlock hadn't made it in time. Letting out a shaky sigh she shook her helm trying to stop the lubricant from escaping.
Thunderhoof walks up behind her and puts his arms around her, "Youse alright, babe?"
"Not really, and I know this is our anniversary but I can't help but worry about what happened today," she replied, her arms holding his for comfort.
"Just try to put that all aside so we can enjoy our day."
"You may have to help me with that," she replied with a small smile, turning her helm her lips collided with his.
"I will," he said as he kissed her back.
"Drift has agreed to watch Emberwing," she whispered.
"That's good," he whispered back.
"We should get going," she replied as she popped his aft playfully with her tail.
"You should be careful or you're gonna get me turned on."
"Maybe I'm trying to," she teased as she led him to the rock quarry.
"Later my dear, later," he said with a smirk.
Once they made it to their destination she took his arms, wrapping them around her waist. Leaning back against his chest she looked to the stars, "Beautiful aren't they?"
"Yes. But not as beautiful as you."
"You're just saying that," she giggled.
"No, I'm not."
With a soft purr, her tail wrapped around his waist.
"I love you, Metalsound."
"I love you too, and I miss this."
"I miss this too."
Metalsound sees the faces of the two Wolf-Cons flashing before her optics, especially the black and red one. She can't get them out of her processor and she keeps getting that strange feeling every time she thinks of them. She's trying to enjoy her anniversary but she's finding it hard to, she just can't stop thinking about the events of the day and those two Wolf-Cons.
She pulls away from Thunderhoof, "I'm sorry, I just can't get into the mood. I need to be alone for a bit," she says before walking away. Thunderhoof watches her walk away, he sends his love to her through the bond but lets her have her alone time.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ratchet does his rounds checking on the patients, when he comes to Steeljaw he finds Strongarm still in the bed with him. With a sigh, he shook his helm with a smile. At least he's sleeping.
Strongarm looked up at him, "Oh, hey Ratchet."
"Hey. I didn't wake you, did I?" He asked quietly.
"Not really."
"Can't sleep?"
"I keep listening to his spark pulse to make sure he's still with us. I'm just so worried."
"I know, but he's out of danger now. Staying up this late won't be good for you either."
"I know, and I know you much prefer me to be somewhere else, but I'm kind of restricted here."
"What do you mean you're restricted here?"
She moves back a bit revealing his tail around her, "Out of habit he wrapped his tail around me before he went to sleep and I can't remove it without waking him so I'm stuck here."
Ratchet chuckled quietly, "You can stay, as long as you get some sleep," he told her as he started to leave.
"I will," she whispered as she laid her helm down on Steeljaw's chest. Steeljaw woke up with a bit of a startle and looked around before looking at her.
"It's okay, Steeljaw. It's okay," she crooned.
"Strongarm?"
"I'm here."
"I thought you were back in our quarters."
"I'm kind of stuck," she chuckled as she motioned to his tail around her waist, "And I didn't want to wake you."
He looked down at his tail, "Oh," he then pulled her close, his tail still around her, "I just had a bad dream about those Wolf-Cons we fought. I dreamed they killed you and Nightback."
She could feel her spark breaking, whispering his name she caressed his cheek, "You won't lose me or our son, I promise."
"I'm gonna make sure I don't," he whispered back as he held her tightly.
"Steeljaw, you really need to rest. I know you're worried," she whispered as she rested her helm on his chest, "But you need to try to get some sleep. Ratchet will make me leave if he sees that you're awake."
"You're not leaving my side. Don't worry I'll go to sleep, I can rest easier now having you in my arms and knowing you are safe."
Strongarm just smiled as she closed her optics, listening to his spark pulse. He watched her for a moment then closed his optics and went back to sleep.
Heyo lovies! I know it has been AGES since I drew or postes anything. I actually sat and sketched a lot, trying to find my drawing style, maybe made my own cartoon.
Anywho i did a LOT of sketching. A WHOLE sketch book full. Problemo is now I have to color em. And it takes time since i dont got the tools to do it digital. Traditional water colors are my forte.
So untill then, have a look at my water color rough paper 2 minutes into a painting.
Chapter 4: Therapy
The bee team were relaxing when suddenly the alarm went off.
"We have incoming." Fixit said.
They all ran to the command center weapons ready but Windblade smiled when she recognised the ship.
"It's alright, I know them." She said urging the rest of the team to lower their weapons.
The bee team stood down and allowed the ship two land.
Out came two Autobots, a bright blue femme bot and a cherry red Mech Bumblebee recognised very well.
"Knockout." He said surprised.
Knockout broke into an all too familiar smirk.
"Hello Bee, long time no see." Knockout said.
The two shook hands.
"It's so good to see you." Bee said.
"Likewise, and it's good to be back here." Knockout said.
"Uh Bee, who's this guy?" Grimlock asked looking at Knockout.
"Oh, guys this is Knockout, he's a former Decepticon who joined the Autobots near the end of the war, and he's a very good friend of mine." Bumblebee said.
"Knockout, this is my team." Bee said introducing Knockout to each member of the Bee team, aside from Optimus, Ratchet, Windblade and Jazz who Knockout was already well acquainted with.
Attention then shifted to Chromia, who introduced herself.
"Hello, my name is Chromia, I'm a friend of Windblade and Knockout and I'm a therapist, I work to help Autobots and Decepticons alike adjust to their new lives." Chromia said.
"She's very good, she even helped me a bit after I joined the Autobots." Knockout said.
Introductions were carried out and soon Chromia began her sessions, assisted by Knockout.
Chromia spoke with Slipstream and Knockout talked with Jetstorm.
Chromia and Slipstream were sitting on a crate in the medbay.
Chromia was smiling warmly at Slipstream who was rather tense.
"Alright Slipstream we're going to begin now, I will be taking notes throughout this session, and I want you to tell me to stop if you feel uncomfortable or need a break, okay." Chromia said smiling warmly at Slipstream.
Slipstream nodded and with that the session began.
At first Chromia asked Slipstream some small questions before beginning the more serious ones.
"So Slipstream, how did you end up working for Shadow Raker?" Chromia asked.
"It was when me and Jetstorm were young I was 6, and he was 3, our parents died in an explosion and we were living on the streets for several months just trying to survive, Shadow Raker found us and offered us a job working for him, in exchange he would give us energon and shelter." Slipstream said.
He clenched his fists tightly.
"But he lied, he used me and Jetstorm as tools, he sent us out to steal for him and whenever we failed he would either lock us out of the base, beat us or refuse to feed us, he treated Jetstorm the worst, just because he was the youngest, the weakest and the most accident prone, he treated him like his slave and there was nothing I could do to stop him, I hate him, I hate everything about him and if I could I would subject him to every painful thing he has done to us over the years, but he doesn't even deserve that, he deserves to go offline." Slipstream growled out.
Slipstream took a long deep breath and sighed.
Chromia looked at the young minicon, his whole frame slumped slightly after he'd finished his tirade, clearly he'd been holding that in for quite a long time.
After a few moments of silence Slipstream looked up at Chromia.
"I'm sorry, it's just, I've been holding a lot of that in for a good while now." Slipstream said.
"That's quite alright Slipstream, this kind of thing is perfectly natural, especially for a situation like this, thanks heavens I was sitting down when I reviewed your records, it's appalling you and your brother had to live with such a monster." Chromia said.
She then decided to change the topic.
"I trust you and your brother are much happier with Drift." Chromia said.
"Very much miss Chromia, master Drift is such a wonderful bot, he has his flaws of course, but he has really changed our lives for the better, he provides us with a home and energon, he trains us to defend ourselves, he taught me and Jetstorm how to read and write, he even comforts us when we are sad or when we have had nightmares." Slipstream said.
Chromia could practically feel her spark swell with emotions.
"You all seem very close." Chromia said.
"We are miss Chromia...we're like a family." Slipstream said.
"Drift seems to have quite a fatherly bond to you two." Chromia said.
"Admittedly Jetstorm and I do see Master Drift like a father, but have never had the courage to say so." Slipstream said.
"Why not?" Chromia asked curiously.
"Because we fear he would not feel the same way towards us. Slipstream said.k
"From what you've described to me Slipstream he does seem to feel the same way about both you and Jetstorm, I feel if you do tell him how you feel, you may be pleasantly suprised." Chromia said.
Slipstream was silent, thinking everything over.
"Just think about it for now." Chromia said.
Slipstream nodded and smiled.
The two talked for a while before Chromia declared their session over and Slipstream went to wait for Jetstorm.
Jetstorm soon appeared followed by Knockout.
"Now remember Jetstorm, same time tomorrow, and think about what we've talked about." Knockout said.
"Okay, thanks Knockout." Jetstorm said looking the happiest Slipstream had seen him in a long time.
Knockout left and Jetstorm and Slipstream got some Energon.
The two sat down and discussed their therapy sessions.
"Knockout was so fun to talk to, he loves his paintjob, he even buffed some of the scratches I missed the last time." Jetstorm said.
True to his word there wasn't a single scratch on Jetstorm.
"He really knows his stuff." Jetstorm said seeing the impressed look on Slipstream's face.
"Jetstorm, you know how me and you think about master Drift, as a father figure?" Slipstream asked.
Jetstorm nodded.
"Well Chromia told me, that perhaps we should tell him how we feel." Slipstream said.
"Knockout said the same to me." Jetstorm said.
"Well,do you think we should tell him?" Slipstream asked.
"I don't know, I really him to think of us as his sons as well as his students, but at the same time, What if he doesn't feel the same?" Jetstorm asked.
Slipstream nodded.
"This is something we must think about." He said.
A little sneak peak for part 5:
Sideswipe woke up, but something was strange, he was back on cybertron, alongside a yellow mech, one he hadn't seen in such a long time.
Suddenly there was the sounds of bots yelling as well as blaster fire.
The mech started pulling Sideswipe along with him, both of them running past many fighting bots in an attempt to escape.
The unthinkable happened when a stray blaster shot came flying through the air, hitting the yellow mech square in the chest.
Sideswipe tried to help but it was no luck. The bots bright yellow paint, faded to gunmetal gray.
The scrapyard:
Sideswipe awoke with a jolt and sat up in his berth his whole frame trembling and shaking, and in his despair he said a name, the name of a bot he could never tak to again.
"Sunstreaker."
Hello I’m not sure if this is the kind of request you mean… but I love seeing your dad content about soldier it warms my heart. Is there anything you think of with him and Tracer as Father Daughter?
I love your writings… sorry if this isn’t the right requests.
It still pleases me to see that my Dad76 post is still getting reblogs and notes after all this time. I want everyone to know that I'm still super soft for Dad76 even with my recent hot take of him being an excellent antagonist lol. I'd be thrilled to write some headcanons for you!!
Of all the Overwatch youngins' back in the glory days, Lena was 100% Morrison's kid. Everyone knew it, including her (but except him. . .)
This primarily comes from the fact that Morrison handled the Slipstream incident personally after it happened.
He authorized the project, and didn't think much of giving it the stamp of approval. So much paperwork crossed his desk, and he's not a science man, so he tended to always approve of official projects like that, even the controversial ones (such as Project Echo).
What he did not catch was the probability of success, written in small print and much smaller than it shouldn't been. What he did not catch was the name and age of the proposed test pilot.
What he did not catch haunted him for the better portion of five years.
After the accident, after what he considered his mistake, he took the reins in giving pretty much unlimited funding to Winston's research to bring her back, even though all the signs at the time pointed to her never coming back or being stable ever again.
It's difficult for Lena to remember, but the second time she reappeared in Winston's prototype stabilization chamber, Morrison was there. She was sobbing. Winston was hesitant to let anyone into the chamber, fearing that her condition might transfer. . . but Morrison stepped in anyway, and gave her a hug before she disappeared from his arms.
(Ana gave him a stern talking-to afterwards. She agreed with him in principal but having Overwatch's lead strike commander disappear from time disassociation nonsense would not have been a good thing.)
After that, he mostly kept his distance. He greenlit even more funding for Winston to develop the chronal accelerator, even though Overwatch was already suffering from some funding issues. He said it was an obligation. He was right, but it was also so much more.
And when Lena received the accelerator, and all was said and done, Morrison personally informed her that it was her choice to stay with Overwatch if she wanted to, that she'd be given a full pension and benefits if she decided to return to civilian life. He was baffled when she said saluted him and expressed her resolution to become an agent.
(Would she have stayed if it was anyone other than Morrison? She's not sure, but he was certainly a big factor. To put it simply, he cared, and perhaps she was projecting a bit of her late father into his stern but gentle demeanor.)
Since her first mission during the London Uprising, the two only grew closer. When Morrison needed the perspective of an agent on the ground when it came to making new policies, he'd always come to her.
He also liked to check up on her welfare on occasion. This usually meant stopping by her quarters for a quick chat, and sometimes staying for a cup of tea.
(He doesn't like her tea- she brews it long, hot, and bitter, unlike Ana's usual blends, but he still drinks it. It's a great energy boost, at least.)
Lena took him to his first Pride parade since before the Omnic Crisis when she spotted the little pride flag hanging in his office during pride month. He was reluctant to go, worried about being recognized and mobbed in the crowd, so she created a genius foolproof disguise for him out of a hat, sunglasses, and leather pants. Slap on some makeup, and he was practically unrecognizable. . . and very fabulous.
He had so much fun during Pride that for the next week, Ana and Gabe were confused about his sudden lift in self-esteem.
Pride became a yearly tradition for Lena and Morrison until Overwatch fell apart.
(Which means that he has met Emily! He 100% approves, lol)
Random headcanon, but Morrison always gave her shoulder pats as a greeting.
And when Soldier 76 reaches his hand out to her shoulder, five years after Morrison was proclaimed dead, Lena pulls away, with a mixture of hurt and confusion written all over her face.
I've been receiving some pretty vicious anti-Carlando or Lando/Carlos anons since the last race and ya know hey that's your opinion and you can share! I choose to not put my energy into directly replying to attacking posts and that's both our perogative. That's okay 💫
I guess if people only saw the broadcast of just qualifying and the race, which they really went out of their way to not show the Carlando moments djeesh, I get their point of view.
So yeah if you don't see the whole picture you saw Carlos having pole and swearing badly (we know the truth) at Lando snatching the pole away from him and them ignoring each other after (even though Carlos went back for Lando but got pulled away, then they giggled and half hugged, giggled some more, love hearts everywhere, what personal space? don't know her, being glued together on the truck for the drivers parade, talking for a few in their own bubble like they forgot there were people around, having animated giggly conversations with others but always gazing at the other or smiling that smile, let's not forget Carlos and Lando inches closer and closer when Carlos had his hand next to almost behind Lando's side)
And the race would be Carlos taking revenge on Lando easily, Lando overtaking easily "Got him" in a snarky way ending with Lando not congratulating Carlos on his win, giving a hug to Sir Hamilton his new best friend, Carlos ignoring Lando through his heartbreak, not even checking up on him like the iceking he is.
What I saw and what actually happened was the best cross-team teamwork I've seen! Carlos said he knows Lando very well and they have started next to each other on the grid, they would leave space to finish together (smirk), Carlos kept saying "we" need to get away, see what happens behind "us" and I saw Lando defending from the guys behind, taking care to give Carlos squeeze way out, Carlos saying thank you very much to Lando's slipstream and off they both were. Lando's car was faster, he could overtake Carlos knowing they'd both fight fairly but they worked as a team (yup funnily enough) and Lando was patient giving Carlos P1 laps leading the race, they punched a few seconds between them and the pack behind, Lando overtook Carlos and off they went.
Of course strategy and external factors would always change that but the beginning was lovely just lovely.
Lando was heartbroken after that race, Carlos should be celebrating and Lando needs Carlos cause he understands him and his mental state and that's why he went up to Lewis just for a handshake, to be the better man and Lewis pulled him in for a hug and if that would've happened with Carlos he would've broken down crying and step on Carlos' celebration. That was Carlos' moment. Carlos didn't celebrate 100% as well, certainly not the way he would've celebrated with Lando beside him.
Don't think they didn't talk. Carlos was worried, his team did mention Lando cause Lando matters to Carlos. Their friendship matters to both of them. Not everything is out in public and it doesn't have to be.
But let me tell you, they adore each other. What you see, or don't see in this case, on TV doesn't mean that portrays what is actual reality.
For those still not convinced or need reassurances, go to our Carlando Tumblr pages and see all the actual things that happened during, before and after the weekends.
Be nice to each other Anons, the world can be a scary tough place, let's keep this digital place a safe home okidoki?
You turned the corner to the street where your uncle's scrapyard is. You brought your sword with you. It was a sword that your mother gave to you when you were little. It had a handle. You happily knocked on the door of the scrapyard. Russell your cousin opened up the door. He smiled and hugged you.
"Hello (Y/n)!" Russell said.
"Hey. What's happening?" You asked.
"Nothin much! Drift and the twins are outside." He said pointing to the backyard.
"Alright." You ran outside. You were recieving a sword fighting lesson by Drift after he noticed how you excel in sword fighting. He decided to help you improve.
"Alright (Y/n). Everything begins with your stance. Remember:" Drift said.
"You do it for them, and you would do it again. You do it for them that is to say you do it for them." Drift said showing you how he attacks.
"Keep your, stance wide. Keep your frame lowered. As your moving forward balance is the key. Right pede left pede now go even faster. As your moving backwards keep your optics on me." Drift Instructed showing you how he is attacking the decepticon with precise.
"Keep my stance wide" You said.
"Good" Drift said.
"Keep my body lowered" You added.
"Right" Drift said. Nodding.
"As I'm moving forward..." You lose focus. Drift grabbed your sword and faught the holo-decipticon.
"Concentrate. Don't you want them to live?!" Drift sternly said..
[Right pede, left pede" You said.
"Yes, but put your whole frame into it" Drift explained helping your form.
"Everything you have, everything you are. You've got to give, On the battlefield. When everything is chaos, And you have nothing but the way you feel. Your strategy and a sword. You just think about the life you'll have together after the war" Drift projected an recording of the war for cybertron, he was fighting for his cause, and you noticed how cruel it was. Then he showed a recording of you and the twins together.
"And then you do it for her, That's how you know you can win. You do it for her, that is to say. you do it for them.." Drift said disipitating the hologram.
                                                         ===
After fighting for awhile, you looked down at your hand that was bandaged, and the twins gave you some juice before you take a sip however, Drift was in front of you.
"Deep down you know, You weren't built for fighting. But that doesn't mean. You're not prepared to try." Drift exclaims starting the process up.
"What they don't know. Is your real advantage, When you live for someone. You're prepared to offline!" Drift proclaimed. He continued to show recordings of the war.
"Deep down I know, That I'm just a human." You said. Dropping your sword with a look of thought.
"True." Drift said.
"But I know that I can draw my sword and fight" You said holding up your sword again lunging towards the Holo decipicon.
"But you know that you can draw  your sword and fight" Drift said with you.
“With my short existence" You said with a thrust against the hologram.
"Good." Drift said.
"I can make a difference" You jumped up and lunged towards the Holo. And stabbed your sword through it.
"Yes, excellent." Drift said.
"I can be there for them." You said.
"I can be their knight" You holds your sword on the ground.
"I can do it for her" You said. Dragging the sword down to the hologram.
"You'd do it for her" Drift said.
"Okay, now do that again" Drift confirms to you.
"Yes, sir!" You confirm, doing just that.
"You do it for her, and now you say"
"I'll do it for them"
                                                           ===
The twins has seen less and less of you whenever your out practicing your sword skills, they later were aware that Drift was trying to get you ready for battle Russell didn’t find this okay, you’re just a human! So the twins decided to interrupt your session with Drift. Drift however was angry.
“You have to understand, in a battle she has to protect you both.” Drift said.
“We’re fine on our own!” Jetstorm said.
“Well, you guys are too important to be in the FIGHT!” Drift said remembering what happened the last time.
“No we’re not! We’re perfectly capable of handling ourselves Lady (Y/n) could easily get hurt! She’s a human! We’re replaceable, but she’s not! Commander Drift!” Jetstorm said. Finally Drift snapped.
“WHY WON’T YOU LET ME DO THIS FOR YOU MASTER!” Drift then covered his dermas.
“I mean, why won’t you do this for her?” Drift asked.
‘Very well, fight is over. I have to think about this.” Drift said. He walked off, leaving both you and the twins alone.
Oh, that bit about Karl’s powers and XD’s company at the beginning of the overwatch timeline made the karlnapity brain go brrrrrrr, bro!! Very long post ahead!!!! And I know the chatfic is coming soon, and I totally understand if you wanna reserve the blog’s attention for that once it comes out because I am also extremely excited for it, so publish this whenever you want!! Also good luck with the title and summary!!
So like, it’s a few years after Overwatch fell, and Sapnap, Quackity, and Karl are more or less content! They feel for Sam and the other original members, they do, but Overwatch and the omnics honestly weren’t a very big part of their world. They all made it through the omnic crisis just fine, and now they’re just going about their lives in the relative peacetime. They’re even engaged, vague plans of a marriage someday cobbling together bit by bit, but they’re in no rush. They’re happy!
And then Karl finds out about this interesting experiment that’s looking into real, live, actual time travel. Like!! Karl was psyched enough when space travel started getting big again; he knows just about everything there is to know about Horizon One for someone who’s never been there. If time travel turns out to be real? Karl wants in, and he wants in now.
Sapnap and Quackity are half-convinced it’s a scam or a gimmick or something. Sure, they personally knew what amounted to a superhero team a few years ago, but there’s a difference between a small group of skilled fighters and literal time travel. Especially since it’s an XD-sponsored endeavor, Quackity is certain there’s some catch. If nothing else, it’s probably a way to waste a lot of people’s time and money to get XD some good press again.
But Karl is so excited to check it out, neither of them want to try particularly hard to shut him down. They decide they’ll keep an eye on it, obviously, just in case, but they wish Karl good luck and a good time. So he heads out with high hopes and a little suitcase, promising to call every night and to see them soon.
And for the first few days, it goes great! Karl does call them every day and talks for at least an hour about everything he’s learning about this theoretical time travel and how it’ll work: a ship called the Slipstream, which is supposed to use teleportation technology to travel between places in negative time, thus creating functional time travel. Sapnap and Quackity reserve their doubts, but Karl’s having the time of his life either way, and they’re glad to hear him so happy. Especially when he tells them that he gets to get in the ship and take it on a test flight tomorrow - not to try out the time travel yet, but just to make sure he knows how to fly it. Karl gets to fly a ship!! He’s gonna be an actual pilot!! He’s so excited!!!
Karl hangs up that night, clearly over the moon, and Sapnap and Quackity resolve themselves happily to at least four hours on the phone tomorrow night, hearing all about the flight and how it went and what Karl is looking forward to.
And the next night, the hour comes, and Sapnap and Quackity settle on the couch with snacks and drinks, ready for a good long listening session. They wait for the phone to ring. And wait. And wait.
After an hour, they reason that maybe the test flight took longer than expected. Maybe Karl is tired out from flying it. Maybe Karl got distracted. Maybe he forgot to charge his phone. Maybe, maybe, maybe. Either way, it’s not like they had agreed that he’d call at this specific time. So there’s no need to worry. They’re not worried.
Another hour passes. And then another, and another, and soon midnight finds Sapnap and Quackity, sitting in the kitchen with mugs of tea long since cooled, watching a phone that won’t ring. Looking up the experiment or the Slipstream doesn’t bring up any bad news, which sets them both a bit at ease; no news is good news, right? At least for now?
Uneasily, they decide to go to bed. Karl will have to have called or at least texted by morning, surely. And if not, they’ll call him, and then they’ll call the number they were given for questions about the experiment. There’s no reason to worry.
Despite having no reason to worry, when morning comes without word from Karl, Sapnap and Quackity worry. When they call Karl, it goes straight to voicemail. When they call the number for the experiment, it’s disconnected. When they look up the experiment and the Slipstream and XD in general, they notice what they hadn’t last night: not only is there no news, there’s no mention of the experiment. The website Karl had learned about the experiment from is gone. XD’s website makes no mention of time travel. Even with all of Quackity’s investigative power, as far as the world wide web is concerned, there has never been a ship or shuttle with the name Slipstream.
It’s like the whole project never existed at all, and Karl Jacobs along with it.
Thus begins Sapnap and Quackity’s investigation. They call anyone who will listen, telling them that Karl is missing and it’s almost certainly the fault of XD and his company and please please please help them find out what happened. They become the most annoying thorn in XD’s side in months, calling every division in every company several times over, demanding answers. At one point, they’re discreetly contacted and offered hush money if they just drop it, and Sapnap has never screamed so loud in his life as when he told them exactly what they could do with that money. Quackity immediately tries to follow up, tracing the offer to gather proof that something must have happened if they’re trying to cover it up, and only runs into a brick wall. XD is infuriatingly good at covering his tracks.
What finally marks the turning point in their investigation is XD’s most common underestimation: common human decency between strangers. Quackity and Sapnap are anonymously contacted by someone who was working in the experiment’s division and heard about their search, someone who has access to Slipstream plans and blueprints. Through them, Quackity and Sapnap learn that Karl vanished because he was pressured into activating the time travel function on his test flight, despite the fact that it wasn’t ready yet. They’re also given early blueprints for the Slipstream, which include some of the plans for the time travel mechanism.
It’s this mechanism that Sam is able to study and rework and reverse engineer, eventually leading to the development of the chronal accelerator, which should, in theory, bring Karl back.
And it had been a rough time for Quackity and Sapnap, spending nearly all of their free time trying to gather resources and to find the truth and then to help Sam however he needed. They’ve undergone their respective breakdowns, supporting each other through them: Sapnap kept Quackity from burying himself too deeply in his work and his research, getting him to sleep and eat regularly. In turn, Quackity made sure he was available for Sapnap to talk and vent to, redirecting his steadily burning fury to constructive outlets. They’ve settled into an uneasy but manageable rhythm of getting through the days, haunted though they are by the uncertainty of where Karl is and when (if) they’ll see him again. And with the invention of the chronal accelerator, they’re both struggling with just how much hope they can afford. If this doesn’t work - if they get so close to finally getting Karl back, only to fail… it’s not something they want to think about.
So when Sam calls them down to his workshop, saying that he thinks he has a working model to recover their fiance, they arrive hand-in-hand, Quackity guarded, Sapnap cautiously optimistic. They gather around the workbench, surrounding Sam’s invention, a mechanical-looking harness with a glowing, green-and-purple spiral at its heart. Sam looks to them, hovering one hand over the activation switch, waiting for their signal.
They share a glance. Sapnap squeezes Quackity’s hand, steady and secure. No matter what, it promises. No matter what, I’ll still be here. I’m with you.
They both nod to Sam, and he flips the switch.
The harness hums and crackles to life, its spiral glowing brighter and starting to spin. Sam stands at the ready, watching six different monitors to ensure nothing goes wrong. Sapnap and Quackity lean on each other, nearly holding their breath, eyes glued to the accelerator.
Slowly, a figure fizzles into existence. Half-transparent, arms curled close to their chest, they glance around the room, looking lost and unsure, until they meet eyes with Sapnap and Quackity. Then their eyes go wide, one hand rising to their mouth, hanging open in shock.
Sapnap? says the ghost of Karl Jacobs. Quackity?
And in the next second, the ghost comes back to life, lungs filling with air, color rushing to his cheeks, solidity returning to his form. And Karl gasps, coughs, leans forward with one hand clapped over the accelerator, and his gaze doesn’t leave his fiances for a second. He extends one shaking arm, reaching for his fiances with an open hand. The tension shatters.
Sapnap closes the distance in half a second, Quackity barely a breath behind. The fiances collapse against the table as the two of them all but tackle Karl. Because Karl is real, Karl is alive, Karl is here in front of them. The lingering doubts that have dogged their footsteps vanish. The fear in their hearts that three engagement rings would become two wedding rings dissolves. The aching absence they’ve felt between them for months melts away in tears and sobs and bone-crushing hugs, the three of them relishing the hard-regained closeness, pressing together as the weight of the world lifts from all of their shoulders.
They’re together again.
For drabble ideas... how about that time Din jumped into water without a second thought to the full suit of armour he was wearing and nearly drowned himself trying to save the kid? (or conversely, something from Bo-Katan's POV of the same scene, where she realizes a vod needs rescuing?)
THANK YOU anon, literally the other day I was thinking I wanted to write about this!  I don’t feel like I know Bo-Katan well enough to get in her head yet, so here it is from Din’s perspective, ~830 words:
***
going under
“No!” he shouts, and dives into the water after the child, adrenaline surging through him.  He never learned to swim --
The weight of the beskar crushes him.
He sinks.
The weight --
Bone-chilling water flooding under his helmet, displacing the air; spluttering for breath, inhaling the frigid seawater -- He gasps, choking, chest searing --
Hands flailing upward, or downward, he doesn’t know which, the visuals through his helmet are murky and faint -- he claws for the child’s pram but there’s only water -- and the weight --
Fingers curling in the metal grate, he’s above the water, he doesn’t know how.  He tries to breathe through the panic, through the draining water running down his face, through his helmet suffocating him, and he coughs, he gasps --
Blades strike at his hands, close to severing fingers -- he sinks again --
Heart vibrating madly in his chest, how his lungs burn, there’s no thought, no self, nothing but air and child, reflexive flailing triggering the Rising Phoenix --
He rockets upward, slams into the grate again, claws frantically, clings.  He coughs, coughs, rattling gasps --  Blurred figures striking again at him, a sudden familiar sound, jetpacks, battle --
The beskar is so heavy.  He shakes with the effort of holding onto the grate.  He chokes again, ravenous for air --
The grate begins to scroll back.  He loses his grip, starts to sink again, panics --
“Take my hand,” says a voice, and he doesn’t understand, but he flings a sodden heavy arm forward and feels a blessed, solid grip.
It begins to pull him upward.  He has to tell them.  Has to save him.  “There’s -- a creature.  It has the Child,” he rasps.  They have to understand -- they have to save the kid -- please -- he can’t --
They help him stagger to a sit, his legs numb and nerveless beneath him, and he gasps and breathes and shakes.  “The Child.  Help the Child,” he begs.
“On it,” says a voice, and there’s a flare of a Phoenix, a splash in the water.
A hand on his, letting go.  His vison’s still dim, black speckles dancing in his eyes as he continues to struggle.  All he can see is Mandalorian.  “Don’t worry, brother,” says a voice through beskar.  “We’ve got this.”
Breathe.  Breathe.  But he can hardly do it, his chest threatening to buckle under the pressure of beskar and drenched leather and cloth.  Beneath the helmet, his face is slick with seawater, mucus, saliva.  His heart still pounds hard, a rabbity, frantic beat beneath his ribs.
Something is happening on the water’s surface.  The water roils, and a Mandalorian rises above the waves, the pram in their arms.  They land beside him, and terror seizes him -- the pram is crushed --
The Mandalorian rips the pram open.  Lifts the kid.  The child turns to look around, confused, and Din reaches out for him, arms trembling as his chest heaves.
“Here you go, little one,” the Mandalorian says, and she gently places him in Din’s arms.  His movements are jerky, clumsy, pulling the child to his chest, trying to slow his breathing enough that he can make sure the child is moving normally.  He stares into the kid’s eyes, sees the child calming at his presence, and sags in relief.  His eyes burn, blurring with sudden tears he blinks away.
“Thank you,” he says raggedly.  He holds the child carefully, and begins to explain his task, still catching his breath  --
And the Mandalorians remove their helmets as one.
Din recoils, dizzy with a sick, sudden wave of disgust.  His hand collapses toward his blaster, and the child quickly looks up at him, ears drifting down in worry.  He staggers upright, hand slipping away from the blaster, but near enough to use if needed… if not for the weakness permeating every limb.
“Where did you get that armor?” he forces out.
His thoughts careen around, a confused, maddening swirl.  This armor has been in my family for three generations.
“You do not cover your face,” he accuses, forcing himself to remain steady on his feet.  “You are not Mandalorian.”
Their protests make no sense, their disdain clear on their naked faces.  He’s one of them.  He knows the words they use, but they do not lead to understanding.  Clan Kryze.  Born on Mandalore, fought in the Purge. I am the last of my line.  And you are a Child of the Watch.  They bandy insults that enrage him through his haze, terrible sacrilege, calling his Creed a cult, his Tribe religious zealots.
“There is only one way,” he says, voice raw.  “The Way of the Mandalore.”
The Rising Phoenix carries him and the child upward, and he clings to the kid, holds him tighter than he held the grate that kept him breathing.  He shivers with the cold, with the shock.  He is no closer to completing his quest for the child’s true home, and the failure weights him.
The kid presses against him, little arms shifting in the slipstream.  Even through the sodden cloth and leather beneath the beskar, even in the wind, he can feel it.  A hug.
He inclines his head to the child until his helmet just slightly touches the child’s forehead.  The flight to the mainland seems a little shorter that way, a little warmer, a little lighter.
Din exhales into his helmet, heartbeat finally settling, and he savors the taste of air.
