কক্সবাজারের উখিয়া উপজেলার কুতুপালং রোহিঙ্গা আশ্রয়শিবিরে আজ সোমবার ভোররাতে র‍্যাবের সঙ্গে নতুন জঙ্গি সংগঠন ‘জামায়াতুল আনসার ফিল হিন্দাল শারক্বীয়া’র সংঘর্ষ ও গোলাগুলির ঘটনা ঘটেছে। এ সময় সংগঠনটির সামরিক শাখার প্রধান ও একজন বোমাবিশেষজ্ঞকে অস্ত্র-গোলাবারুদসহ আটক করা হয়েছে বলে জানিয়েছে র‍্যাব।

আজ সকাল ১০টার দিকে উখিয়ার টিভি টাওয়ার এলাকায় সংবাদ সম্মেলন করেন র‍্যাবের আইন ও গণমাধ্যম শাখার পরিচালক কমান্ডার খন্দকার আল মঈন। সেখানে তিনি বলেন, নতুন জঙ্গি সংগঠনের সদস্যরা উখিয়ার বালুখালীর আশ্রয়শিবিরে (ক্যাম্প-৭) অবস্থান করছিলেন। গোপন সংবাদে এ তথ্য জানতে পারে র‍্যাব।

ভোররাতের দিকে র‍্যাব সেখানে অভিযান শুরু করলে জঙ্গি সংগঠনের সদস্যরা ক্যাম্প থেকে বেরিয়ে উখিয়া টিভি টাওয়ার হয়ে ইয়াহিয়া গার্ডেনের ভেতর দিয়ে নাইক্ষ্যংছড়ির পাহাড়ের দিকে পালানোর চেষ্টা করেন। সকালে র‍্যাব সদস্যরা জঙ্গিদের ঘিরে ফেললে গোলাগুলির ঘটনা ঘটে। এ সময় র‍্যাব সদস্যরা জঙ্গি সংগঠনের শুরা সদস্য ও সামরিক শাখার প্রধান রণবীর ও তাঁর সহযোগী বোমাবিশেষজ্ঞ বাশারকে দুটি দেশীয় বন্দুক, বিদেশি একটি পিস্তলসহ আটক করে। তাঁদের কাছ থেকে আড়াই লাখ টাকাও পাওয়া যায়।

নতুন এই জঙ্গি সংগঠনের সদস্যদের গ্রেপ্তারে ইয়াহিয়া গার্ডেন ও কুতুপালং রোহিঙ্গা শিবিরে র‍্যাবের সাঁড়াশি অভিযান চলছে বলে জানিয়েছেন র‍্যাব-১৫ কক্সবাজার ব্যাটালিয়নের সহকারী পরিচালক (গণমাধ্যম ও আইন) মো. আবু সালাম চৌধুরী।

কুতুপালং আশ্রয়শিবিরের কয়েক রোহিঙ্গা নেতা বলেন, আশ্রয়শিবিরে মিয়ানমারের সশস্ত্র গোষ্ঠী আরাকান স্যালভেশন আর্মি (আরসা), আরাকান রোহিঙ্গা সলিডারিটি অর্গানাইজেশনসহ (আরএসও) ১৪ থেকে ২০টি রোহিঙ্গাদের সশস্ত্র পক্ষ আছে। এর মধ্যে নতুন জঙ্গি সংগঠনের অবস্থান সাধারণ রোহিঙ্গাদের ভাবিয়ে তুলেছে। গত চার মাসে এই সন্ত্রাসীদের মধ্যে গোলাগুলি ও সংঘর্ষের ঘটনায় অন্তত ২৩ রোহিঙ্গা নিহত হয়েছেন। এর মধ্যে ৫ জন আরসা, ১১ জন রোহিঙ্গা মাঝি (নেতা) ও অন্যরা সাধারণ রোহিঙ্গা। হত্যাকাণ্ডের ঘটনায় আরসার প্রধান কমান্ডার আতাউল্লাহ আবু আম্মার জুনুনিসহ শতাধিক রোহিঙ্গা সন্ত্রাসীর বিরুদ্ধে উখিয়া ও নাইক্ষ্যংছড়ি থানায় পৃথক চারটি মামলা হলেও এখনো মূল হোতারা ধরাছোঁয়ার বাইরে। সূত্র: প্রথমআলো

A near-threatened Himalayan Griffon vulture was rescued in Kanpur.

The rare Himalayan Griffon vulture is being monitored by a team of veterinarians at the Allen Forest Zoo's veterinary hospital.

A rare Himalayan Griffon vulture was rescued from the Eidgah cemetery in Kanpur’s Colonelganj area earlier this week. The injured bird was handed over to the forest department by the local residents in the presence of the police.

Currently, the bird is being monitored by a team of veterinarians at the Allen Forest Zoo’s veterinary hospital. Knocksense has cited veterinarian Dr Nasir Zaidi as saying that the bird weighs about 8 kg and is being kept away from other birds for some time.

As its name suggests the Himalayan Griffon vulture inhabits the higher regions of the Himalayas and the Tibetan Plateau. They can fly at an elevation of up to 5,500 metre with help of their wide and powerful wings. They are scavenger birds and are listed as Near Threatened by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

After the bird was captured by the local residents, many videos began circulating online showing people holding the bird by its wings for pictures and videos. One such video was posted on Twitter by the Navbharat Times. However, the video incorrectly said that the vulture is believed to be hundreds of years old. Read more on..

What advice would you give beginner artists?

it's fine to want to do more stylized art, but nothing will help you improve quickly like studying from life. even if you want to draw very stylized figures, life drawing is still going to help you understand how the human body works and then you can build your stylization off of that understanding. I also recommend studying specifically things you're looking to improve--if you feel like your poses aren't dynamic, ask your model to do some quick (1-2 min) dynamic poses and work on getting the gesture down. if you're looking for anatomy, ask for longer, more static poses and really study the contours of the body. this also applies for portraiture and character art--my expressions and facial structure improved like CRAZY when i started doing portrait studies from life! (note: i know live model sessions aren't accessible for everyone. i'm a huge advocate for nude models, if you can find a studio nearby that's affordable to you that offers sessions, that's the best you're gonna get. however, there are sites that will give you photos of nude models to draw from, too, or you can even just ask friends or family to pose for you when they aren't busy, that's what i did before i started getting model sessions from my school!)

materials are not everything but sometimes a good material can make a difference. it's important to know what's worth it and what isn't for your skill level. invest in some decent-quality supplies or a good art program, but understand that you're still going to need to work to understand your materials and use them to their fullest potential. (if you're a digital artist buy csp. trust me on this. get it on sale. it will change your life. also do not fucking use photoshop)

tracing is ok. listen to me. TRACING. IS. OK. tracing is how you learn. don't trace other people's art and pass it off as your own, obviously, but there is literally no problem with tracing real-life reference photos. I routinely trace references for backgrounds and the like. there is no reason for you to kill yourself trying to make complex perspective and shit up from your head when you can very easily just overlay a photo and get what you need.

in that same vein, USE REFERENCE PHOTOS. find pics online or take pics of yourself and USE THEM to see how your poses work. it makes it SO SO SO much easier. the understanding that you need to create a pose out of nowhere will come with time but you're not going to get that skill unless you have a foundation of understanding how the real human body works, and the easiest way to get that understanding is by copying photos of real people.

last but not least, there's generally a sort of 'rulebook' that new artists are expected to go by, especially online, when it comes to digital art. when i was first learning, it was all about lineart and cell shading, two things that I didn't really like. Nowadays it seems to be all about rendering. the single most important thing i can tell you is if it sucks you don't have to do it. if you hate lineart just color your sketches. if you hate shading don't shade, or find a different way to shade that you enjoy more. if rendering is annoying or difficult for you DON'T BOTHER!! art is supposed to be fun. if part of your process is annoying or upsetting to you, cut it the fuck out. don't torture yourself just to do art the "right" way. i guarantee your art will look better when you're having fun making it anyway!

মেট্রোরেলে সহজে যাতায়াতের জন্য গত তিন দিনে প্রায় ২০ হাজার এমআরটি পাস কিনেছেন যাত্রীরা। আর যাত্রীদের ভিড় কমাতে মেট্রো ট্রেনের চলাচলের মধ্যবর্তী সময় কমানোর পাশাপাশি নতুন বগি বাড়ানোরও চিন্তা করছে কতৃপক্ষ। বুধবার (২৪ জানুয়ারি) ঢাকা ম্যাস ট্রানজিট কোম্পানি লিমিটেডের কোম্পানি সচিব (যুগ্ম সচিব) মোহাম্মদ আবদুর রউফ গণমাধ্যমকে এমনটিই জানিয়েছেন।

মোহাম্মদ আবদুর রউফ বলেছেন, গত ত��ন দিনে আমাদের এমআরটি পাস কিনেছেন প্রায় ২০ হাজার লোক। ভিড় কমাতে আমাদের বগি বাড়ানোর চিন্তাও আছে। যে সিস্টেমে আছে সেখানে প্রত্যেক কোচে আরও দুটি বগি যুক্ত করতে পারবো। এছাড়া নতুন কোচ প্রয়োজন হলে ভাবা হবে। পাশাপাশি আমরা সার্ভে করে দেখবো মেট্রো ট্রেন চলাচলের মধ্যবর্তী সময়টা কতটা কমিয়ে আনা যায়।

জানা গেছে, সাধারণত রাজধানীতে পিক আওয়ার সকাল নয়টা ও বিকেল পাঁচটা। অফিস শুরু ও শেষের সময়কে কেন্দ্র করে সড়কে এ সময় তীব্র যানজট দেখা যায়। এ অবস্থা থেকে উত্তরণে নগরবাসীর আস্থায় পরিণত হয়েছে মেট্রোরেল। ফলে পিক আওয়ারে স্টেশনগুলোতে ভিড় দেখা যায়। মতিঝিল অংশ পর্যন্ত মেট্রোরেল পুরোপুরি চালু হওয়ার পর থেকে যাত্রীচাপ আরও বেড়েছে। তবে শুধু পিক আওয়ার না অন্য সময়গুলোতেও মেট্রোতে যাত্রীদের চাপ দেখা গেছে।

সোমবার (২২ জানুয়ারি) সকাল সাড়ে নয়টার দিকে জাতীয় প্রেসক্লাবের সামনে সচিবালয় স্টেশনে যাত্রীদের তীব্র চাপ চোখে পড়েছে। সেখানে মোট তিনটি মেশিন ও একটি ম্যানুয়াল বুথের সামনে শতাধিক যাত্রীকে টিকিটের জন্য লাইনে অপেক্ষায় থাকতে দেখা গেছে। এছাড়া আগারগাঁও, পল্লবী স্টেশনের যাত্রীদের প্রচুর চাপ।

শুধু টিকিট কাটাই নয়, একই চিত্র মেট্রোতে উঠার সময়েও। টিকিট কাটলেও বগিতে উঠতে পারবেন কি না তা নিয়ে অনেকে উদ্বেগ-উৎকষ্ঠায় আছেন। সচিবালয়ের স্টেশনের যাত্রীরা উঠতে পারলেও ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ে পৌঁছার পর কোনো বগিতেই তিল ধরার ঠাঁই নেই। এ সময় অনেক যাত্রীকে এক বগির দরজা থেকে অন্য বগির দরজায় দৌঁড়াতে দেখা যায়।

মোহাম্মদ আবদুর রউফ জানিয়েছেন, বেশি সংখ্যাক যাত্রীদের এমআরটি পাস সংগ্রহ এবং নতুন বগি যুক্ত হলে মেট্রোরেল হয়ে উঠবে আরো আরামদায়ক ভ্রমণের নাম।

উল্লেখ্য, ২০২২ সালের ২৮ ডিসেম্বর উত্তরা থেকে আগারগাঁও পর্যন্ত মেট্রোরেল উদ্বোধন করেন প্রধানমন্ত্রী শেখ হাসিনা। পরে গত ৪ নভেম্বর আগারগাঁও থেকে মতিঝিল অংশের উদ্বোধন করেন তিনি। গত ৩১ ডিসেম্বর সর্বশেষ মেট্রোরেলের শাহবাগ ও কারওয়ানবাজার স্টেশন চালু হয়। আর গত ২০ জানুয়ারি থেকে উত্তরা উত্তর স্টেশন থেকে মতিঝিল অংশে সকাল থেকে রাত পর্যন্ত চলাচল করছে মেট্রোরেল।

মেট্রোরেলের ১৬টি স্টেশন হলো— উত্তরা উত্তর, উত্তরা সেন্টার, উত্তরা দক্ষিণ, পল্লবী, মিরপুর-১১, মিরপুর-১০, কাজীপাড়া, শেওড়াপাড়া, আগারগাঁও, বিজয় সরণি, ফার্মগেট, কারওয়ান বাজার, শাহবাগ, ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, বাংলাদেশ সচিবালয় এবং মতিঝিল।

The Princess of Wales looked on as the screen shielded her father-in-law.

There should be another one-on-one consultation that is sacred, where anyone, from King to princess to pauper, can expect to be shriven in total privacy, and that is the sanctity of the medical room.

It used to be that priests were our only bound confidants, we could trust them to be privy to all our spiritual ills.

Now doctors are our secular priests: bound by law and ethics to enshrine confidentiality at the heart of the patient relationship.

As a result, our medical privacy in an age of oversharing and online surveillance feels both stranger and more necessary.

If we knew our every GP-inspected rash was to be posted on TikTok for the nation, many of us would quite literally die of embarrassment.

The King’s appointment behind the three-sided screen can now be viewed through the lens of royal illness.

The lavishly embroidered panels and expensive white shirt now replaced by the flimsy three-sided ward screen on wheels and thin hospital gown that can humble us all.

But it also enacts a principle at the very heart of becoming the monarch.

The medical-like screen is erected in the coronation to tell us there are some places the public cannot go; to tell us that there are sacredly personal moments in which a person, any person, however swathed in our projections of power, needs to be nakedly human.

Otherwise, they will go mad. We need to make sure the screens are erected around Catherine now.

Much is said, quite a lot of it by Prince Harry himself, of the dangers of the wives of the princes repeating the tragic history of their mother, Princess Diana, hunted by photographers.

He remains phobic to any hint of tabloid persecution or paparazzi chase. But this is a sideshow, even an anachronism in 2024.

He and others have not recognised how the “chase” has changed. Who needs paparazzi when there are a billion citizen hacks ready to take pictures with their phones, in case a convalescing woman nips to a Windsor farm shop with her husband?

Instead, the appetite now is not to see but to know.

The royals used to have a contract with the public: we pay for them, and in return, they give us their presence.

Nearly all of their official job is to do with surface: to show up, to put in appearances at a set number of functions, whether at the opening of parliament or the opening of a leisure centre.

But now parts of the online mob seem to be staging a coup. We want more than the surface, we want to puncture the skin barrier of the royal family and occupy from the inside.

The “fans” have become an invasive virus. The royal analogy is often that they are trapped in a gilded zoo. This new model, instead, casts the royals more as lab rats.

When Catherine disappeared from view in January after announcing a “planned abdominal operation,” the response from internet truthers was one of irate entitlement.

They are now the 1980s tabloids: ravening for intimacies and making stuff up when thwarted.

This wasn’t the boomer generation, who are both more respectful of the royals and more private about their own health.

It was the fortysomething mothers frustrated when they can’t track the phone location of everyone in their life; or the twentysomethings on Snap Map.

Both desperate for their personalised new Netflix season of “The Royals” to drop.

Catherine presents with such stoicism and dignity, it is easy to forget where this new invasiveness started: when she was pregnant with Prince George in December 2012 and hospitalised for extreme morning sickness.

While she was sleeping on the ward, a radio station in Australia rang the hospital switchboard pretending to be the Queen.

They broadcast the nurse’s comments about Catherine’s “retching.”

One could only find this prank funny if Catherine had already — a young, wretchedly ill, pregnant woman — been dehumanised.

George is now ten and his mother hospitalised again, and in that decade, the physical security of ill royals may have tightened but their claim to bodily autonomy seems to have weakened.

Some say Kensington Palace “brought it on themselves” by their wish for discretion; this claim is duplicitous.

The late Queen Elizabeth II became increasingly debilitated in her final years with not much detail ever given; just as her father, King George VI, died without disclosing his lung cancer.

I’m glad that the British do not subject their heads of state to the same publicised medical reports as the president of the United States; one shouldn’t have to present a stool swab to sit on the throne.

No, instead the apparent justification of all those clicking and posting conspiracy theories “worried for Catherine’s welfare” was this sinful truth.

As a beautiful, 42-year-old mother of three, her drama was more box office than the ailments of those older, a pound of her flesh was worth more.

Pity, Susan Sontag said in her 1978 book Illness as Metaphor, is close to contempt.

Back then cancer was still taboo. Those around the patient, Sontag says, “express pity but also convey contempt.”

Ask any cancer patient and they will say they don’t want pity: it is too isolating, it sets them apart, an unwanted privilege.

This is why the video plea of Catherine was one of affinity, rather than pity or privilege.

Last year, she sat in robes in Westminster Abbey at the coronation of her father-in-law, next to her future king son and future king husband.

In her video address last week, she sat on a classically English garden bench, pale, alone and in jeans, as bare of pomp as any royal can be.

No mention of kings or titles, just Diana’s ring on her hand.

Rather she gave an appeal, parent to parent, human to human, about her “huge shock” and her care for her “young family.”

And, finally, her kinship with anyone who lives in a vulnerable human body susceptible to a democratic illness like cancer, “you are not alone.”

Or, to paraphrase Richard Curtis:

“I’m just a girl, standing in front of a public, asking for some time to endure gruelling chemotherapy."
