MISS AUSTRALIA (PART ONE)
Tumblr media
Katie Mccabe x Aussie!Chelsea! Reader
Warnings: Smut 18+, praise kink, angry sex, dom! Katie, sub! Reader, enemies, coarse language, Chelsea mentions, little age gap.
A/N — I know Mackenzie wasn't at Camp but let's just skip past that :)
Masterlist
___________________
The game against Arsenal had been a complete disaster. No one could've prepared you for the monstrosity it turned out to be.
Two days before the long-awaited London Derby, you were in Canada alongside your fellow Australian teammates, basking in the double defeat against your Chelsea teammates Jessie Fleming, Ashleigh Lawrence, and the Canadian National Team. To be fair, it hadn't been all that bad. Some Canadian fans were dubbing it ‘revenge’ after the World Cup, but a friendly was hardly much vengeance in your eyes. They had beaten your B team with their A team, and you had only played the second game alongside the usual starters like Steph, Hayley and Alanna.
By the end of the second game, you had swapped shirts with Jessie, who smothered you in forehead kisses and walked alongside Ashleigh for the lap around the stadium. Steph and Caitlin joined shortly after, both of their jackets covering their sports bras; they had given their jerseys away.
Soon enough, Kyra filtered over. You poked your tongue out to the girl, who giggled and reciprocated the actions before hugging your waist. Dozens of fans banked against the barricade, holding out signs and jerseys to sign. Phones stacked on top of hands reached out as the group of you travelled around the loop. You still had a firm hold on Kyra as you peeled your shirt off, handing it to a little girl with big, bulky glasses. You signed her poster, took a photo, and thanked her before waving goodbye. Your boots had been cuffed and peeling after a nasty tackle by your opponent, so you didn't waste any time in unlacing them and passing them over to a pair of twin girls, who hugged each other and cried at the notion.
Steph and Caitlin mingled with their respected fans while you and Kyra continued to use markers and pens to sign anything that was within arm’s reach.
“Oi, y/l/n!” Caitlin called out, your head turning toward the girl who stood a few feet away. “C’mere, look at this.”
Kyra waddled beside you as you made your way over to where Caitlin had pointed. You couldn't help but notice the slight huddle of fans that had accumulated in that spot, several cameras filming the interactions with cheeky smiles decorating everyone’s faces.
You caught sight of the massive poster, reading it with a blank expression, knowing the cameras were trying to catch your reaction. The sign was coloured in red and blue, with a photo of you on one side, and none other than Katie McCabe on the other. You tried hard to conceal the scowl on your face, hiding behind a sly smirk. You ran your hand over the writing: ‘YELLOW CARD DERBY’
It was no secret that both you and McCabe had a notorious reputation for receiving yellow cards from referees. It was a running joke in the Football community, starting from when you had your debut for the Matildas at fourteen, against Ireland. Katie had gotten a card that game too, both of you receiving it for tackling one another. You played for Sydney FC before you moved to Chelsea, playing your debut match against Arsenal six months after your seventeenth birthday.
Katie had been sent off that match for nearly breaking your ankle, a red displayed in the air before she stopped off with a heated scowl across her face. You knew of her reputation from International games, recalling the older woman as an aggressive little shit that hated you for no reason.
London Derbys started to become all the more heated. After a while, both sides tried their hardest to not put you on at the same time, pressured into thinking that they’d end up being a player down due to your rivalry.
It got so bad that people started picking sides. Dividing the two London teams and causing hate to spread. You were younger than Katie by six years, which seemed to be the leading factor in why people believe that Katie is too harsh. On the other hand, Arsenal supporters reckon that you are immature on the pitch. In prior matches, you had been called a whinger, especially when you were around your sister-like teammate, Hayley Raso.
It is safe to say that you and Katie were not on agreeing terms, even off the pitch, with mutual friends to keep you at bay. You both competed for everything. You were neck and neck in the Ballon d'Or, scoresheet, heat maps, everything. It didn't matter if you weren't playing against one another, you were always compared.
But it didn't seem to bother either of you. In fact, you were certain Katie enjoyed it.
You did too.
“Do you agree with it?” Steph laughed beside you, swinging her arm around your shoulders, pointing towards a printed photo of you pushing Katie to the ground, blood smeared across your nose and lips. Beside it was another photo of the referee pointing towards both of you with red cards. You were looking at Katie with utter turmoil; your Australian Jersey was covered in mud, hers had streaks of dirt covering her socks, and a testing smirk written across her face. Behind the pair of you was a younger-looking Steph, her hand covering the shock on her face.
“None of those were my fault.” You answered, watching as the huddled crowd around you chuckled at your response. You didn't want to say the wrong thing, you didn't know if what you said was that funny. “I promise I don't do it on purpose.”
“Oh, yeah, right, Little Miss Goody-Too-Shoes.” Caitlin scoffed, poking your side. “I've seen you play, you're a ride-off.”
Kyra giggled like usual, swaying her hips into yours. She pointed towards the red card photo. “I don't remember that being an accident.”
You don't exactly know why, but your cheeks are stained a solid red, staining your freckles with a tint of embarrassment. Katie had pushed you over, laughing when your face met the cold, wet mud. It was not a pleasant memory you look back on fondly. “Shush, Ky.”
You felt a presence behind you lifting you up by a grip around your waist. You were pulled onto the shoulders of Macca, earning a yelp to sound from your lips, the interaction leaving fans laughing even more.
“Oh, Baby, what's wrong?” Macca said teasingly, holding your thighs with her hands. You looked down at her and frowned, the team’s nickname for you left you feeling a tad humiliated considering it was in front of people who didn't know of the handle. Kyra took out her phone, taking a few shots of the sight with the intention of putting it in her photo dump.
When Macca caught sight of the poster, she cracked up. “Oh God, that's good.”
“Put me down, Mackenzie.” You groaned, kicking your feet half-heartedly into her side. The Keeper did as she was told, but made the show of huffing and puffing as she let you off her shoulders.
“Do you want me to sign it or something?” You said to the boy holding the poster, watching as his eyes lit up as he nodded.
“Are you a Chelsea or Arsenal fan, mate?” Steph asked him, waiting as the boy shook his head.
“West Ham.”
This made Mackenzie’s head snap towards him. “Really?”
“Yeah, who the fuck supports West Ham?” Caitlin questioned, yelping when Steph whacked her in the chest. “Language, Cait.”
“You're a real one, mate,” Mackenzie said, walking up to the boy and hugging him, making him smile like it was Christmas.
“Who do you think’s gonna win on Saturday?” Kyra egged on, shoving past Macca and grinning at the boy, indiscreetly pointing towards herself and the other Arsenal girls.
The boy looked between them and shrugged, folding his sign back up when you finished signing it. His eyes landed on you. “Well, you're my favourite player, but Chelsea are always too cocky.”
“No lies said.” Kyra said, yearning you to push her playfully.
“What if I score a goal, will you go for me then?” You asked, holding out your hands.
The boy nodded. “Yeah, but that's if you get past Katie.”
You couldn't help but scoff, shaking her head. The girls around you smirked at your competitive nature, sharing knowing looks.
“I don't remember the last time McCabe scored against me.”
***
You were glad that at least you kept that statement true.
The video of you reacting to the poster had gone viral, and everyone found the interaction utterly hilarious. Not only did you have a reputation for cards, but you also had one for being a sub in important games like this.
But that assumption didn't seem to make an appearance today, as you waited in the tunnel beside Jessie, holding the hand of a little girl, waiting as you caught sight of Caitlin in front of you
“Are you alright?” Sam muttered, turning to face you with an inch of worry apparent in her eyes.
You looked back at her, nodding. “Yes, just tired.”
You said this in truth. You hadn't had much sleep over the past week due to the different time zones you were living in. Sam had an injury during the Friendly, therefore not being able to compete alongside your Matildas team. But the fatigue was apparent in everyone’s eyes. You even noticed it in Kyra when you saw her on the bench as you walked towards your starting position.
The fans were screaming at the tops of their lungs, but you slowly drowned them out as you honed in to concentrate. You looked to your left, finding Jessie throwing a thumbs up towards you. You smiled back at her, gulping down the last of your anxiety before the whistle blew.
You knew this would be a hard game before it even started, but Arsenal’s level of aggression was completely unexpected.
Fouls were handed out left and right, followed by a bit of push and shove from either side. You fought your way up and down the wing, waiting for an opportunity to surpass. Both teams were angsty with the ball, throwing easy chances away as the crowd grew in volume.
Sam hadn't come down to defend like she usually does, instead waiting past the halfway mark as the midfield continued to pass to and fro.
You grew annoyed at the lack of ball time you were receiving, even when you made a point to be out and open near the corner. Your breathing was ragged and tested, your patience running thin when the crowd of Chelsea players swarmed Victoria Pelova and leaving Beth Mead to shoot in the open.
“There were four of you, for fuck’s sake.” You muttered, dragging your hands over your face as you sighed, returning to your starting position once more.
It started to become ridiculous when you still hadn't received the ball, yelling out on the wing as the minutes passed with Arsenal in front. You hadn't been in the midst of any tackles or gameplay until the thirteenth minute when one of your teammates crossed the ball to you over the halfway line.
You dragged your feet across the ball, feeling the grass hit your feet as you sprinted toward the goal. You stepped past Lotte Wubben-Moy, leaving an open space to slot it through toward Kaneryd.
The ball had left your feet with a concentrated pass before your balance was cut short. A potent force left your legs to crumble beneath you. Your body collided with another, leaving your lungs without any air. Your head spun with nausea, the speed at which you were taken out leaving you heaving for breath. It took you a few moments to register the figure you had landed on, and how the crowd went wild at the shot that had passed Zinsberger.
“I’d never thought you liked being on top, y/l/n.”
The voice made your stomach churn even more.
“Surprised you have enough brain cells to think, McCabe.”
You rolled off her with a groan, your legs aching from the impact. You felt the hands of one of your teammates soothe the distant pain in your head, causing you to roll onto your back.
Instead, you were met by a red jersey. “You alright, Baby?” Steph asked, helping you up.
You didn't have time to answer Steph. She was bombarded with a shove from Lauren James, who turned to the ref with her hands in the air. “That’s a red, ref! The ball left her feet!”
“James, do not yell at me.” The referee fired back. “McCabe, this is your first and final, am I clear?”
McCabe shrugged her shoulders. “I slipped.”
Lauren looked like she was about to pounce. “Oh, you little-”
“What, eh?” Katie walked up to challenge the girl back. “Can Miss Australia not speak for herself?”
Kim Little, Arsenal’s captain, appeared in the mix. “Katie, that's enough! Walk away.”
“Can't handle a tackle, what a baby, shouldn't be on the field—”
“McCabe!” Kim snapped, which shut up whatever rant Katie was about to begin.
The ref turned towards you, putting a hand on your shoulder. The action was met with Arsenal boos. “Y/l/n, are you alright?” Looking concerned at your pained countenance. Lauren rubbed a hand across your back, eagerly awaiting the card Katie deserved.
“I’m fine.”
Maybe you shouldn't said no — maybe that would've landed Katie with a card. But you knew you’d be sent off if you did. You had just scored an assist to level your team. Katie McCabe of all people was not going to ruin that.
The game continued, your left ankle feeling tampered with as more tackles progressed.
It was clear that Arsenal were hungry for this win, leaving Chelsea left and right with calculated footwork and sprints across both their defensive and attacking lines.
When an Arsenal corner arrives shortly after, you run back to defend the post alongside Jessie. Steph is walking to take the corner with the ball in her hands, giving both teams time to find their spot in the box. Pelova was in front of you, Russo to your right. The majority of your midfielders banked against the goal in an attempt to stop the chances of Arsenal moving up two-one.
Steph was about to kick when you felt someone against you. Unknown hands grip your hips tightly, maneuvering them with ease that your body was stuck to them. Your breath hitched when you were pushed forward, forced to leave your place by the post.
“Miss Australia bent over for me?” The voice whispered, pricking the alcove of your neck. “With all these people watching? Guess she's not as innocent as everyone thinks.”
You weren't watching Steph’s long shot into the box, too angered by Katie to care. You didn't notice Amanda Ilestedt’s header into the middle of the goal, hitting the back of the net with a swoosh, met by North London cheers. Hell, you didn't fucking notice anything except Katie falling to the ground, your arms propelling her with so much force you fought to hide the flame that hindered your cheeks.
The whistle blew, causing celebrations to halt when both teams found the two of you glaring daggers at one another.
“Get off her, Y/l/n,” Wälti called out, running towards you and pushing you backwards.
“Nah, what a fucking ride-off.” You heard another Arsenal player say, making you stomp in the opposite direction, huffing in annoyance when the referee called you back.
Kim Little and Sam Kerr were standing by their respective players when the referee was scolding the two of you. It was obvious that you were painted as the immature one since it was made out that you needed to control your emotions more.
“I won't have you manhandling each other like idiots on my pitch. You play fair or you don't play. Understood?”
The four of you mumbled your understanding, filing back into place begrudgingly. Sam was ordering Jessie to swap with you, but you found yourself shaking your head, promising her you’d pull it in.
Turns out, you didn't.
The same circumstance of you pretty much skin-on-skin with Katie happened after Alessia Russo’s chip against Berger. 3-1 for an undefeated team was embarrassing, and no matter how many times you fed the ball well enough to become an assist, the communication just wasn't there.
“Get the fuck off me, McCabe.” You seethed, trying your best to squirm your way out of her grip, but to no avail.
“You need to stop all that wriggling, Y/l/n,” Katie responded, the smirk on her face was evident even from behind. “Those red cheeks couldn't have been from running.”
“I’m not red.”
“Ha, yeah, you and London both.”
Katie and you both got your yellow cards in the second half.
You knew people would find it funny online — the fact that you both got it at the same time — but the game felt like it had gone on forever, and at this point, all of Chelsea’s players were defenders.
You had a clear shot of the goal after Niamh Charles curled the ball to your wing, leaving you and Katie battling for possession near the sideline.
You couldn't help but notice how high her hands had gotten on your waist. Your knees were bending slightly so you could attain more balance, but maneuvering past Katie was a challenge, and proven extremely difficult.
You let out a struggled breath, angered at the lack of options your teammates offered due to their attacking absence. The ball beneath your feet went back and forth between the women in front of you. The two of you were complete mirrors of each other, both trying to nutmeg the other or humiliate them in some way. It was as if minutes had gone past when everyone was watching the two of you battle it out. It wasn't until Jessie came up behind the two of you, threading the ball out from beneath McCabe’s feet and dribbling it away that it seemed to have stopped.
You blanked when you saw Katie stretch her leg out, tripping Jessie onto the floor; leaving her limb on the grass.
“You’re such a cheat!” You exclaimed, pushing Katie with your hands. “You’re a fucking cheat, McCabe, and you know it!”
Katie surged towards you, her breath thick against your face. Your shirt was taken into her hand. She was so much taller than you. “Imagine needing your girlfriend to win your battles for you.” She spoke, her tone condescending. “The score says it all, Miss Australia. If only you weren't so distracted by me, you’d realise.”
She was looking down at you now, holding your shirt so tightly you knew that if you moved, she’d pull you right back in. Her accent was coarser than usual, sending you into a frenzy of disarray and warmth. She was towering over you, her build similar yet broader. Her smirk was minuscule, but prominent all the same. You knew you had lost the game, but you weren't going to lose this fight.
“And where’s your girlfriend, McCabe? Is she somewhere in the stands?”
You were pulled apart but Kim and Sam, the referee tramping over at the sight of the pair of you bundled up. The presence of the yellow card was something you expected, but not rewarding whatsoever.
“Get off my player, McCabe,” Sam ordered, holding a protective arm over your shoulder. Somehow, you knew what she was thinking, peeling your Captain’s arm away from you and marching off. In the distance, you could hear Katie speaking. “She's a big girl, Kerr. I promise it's never on purpose.”
Of course, she was mocking you, you thought. Of course, she saw the video.
You were replaced by Guro not long after that. The Chelsea cheers did not seep through your irritated exterior. Your head was pounding from the fall you had at the start of the game, and you winced at the tinge in your ankle as you ran off to hug Guro.
Emma Hayes strolled up to you, placing a stern hand on your shoulder. “I want you to cool off before you come back and sit down. You're going to shake each of those girls’ hands before you go home tonight.”
Without a second thought,, you stomped down the tunnel, making a point to let your metal studs echo all the way to the changerooms. At twenty-two years old, you had the most yellows in the WSL for your age. If the stats were compared, people would argue that you were higher than most of the older girls.
It was nothing you were proud of, despite the effortless compliments you gained for being potent in your determination to win. But you had been told by almost every coach that you could be too aggressive.
You kicked off your boots, peeling off your shin pads and socks to reveal the nasty bruise that was already blossoming on your ankle. Removing your clothes, you engulfed the hot spurs of water that left the shower head in Emirates Stadium. There was still half an hour of the game left when you were subbed off, so you made sure to take your time washing yourself from head to toe, soaking in the warmth that relaxed the tension in your muscles.
You replaced your game kit with some Matilda's trackies and a fitted tee. Combing your hair into a pony, washing your face with freezing cold water, you waited for your team to arrive from the game, feeling defeated and unprepared for the beating they were about to receive from Emma.
The changing rooms blocked out most of the noise from the game above, except from the thundering rumble of Alessia Russo chants that boomed after five minutes of waiting. You knew that had scored just by the sinking of your gut. The jetlag and fatigue were starting to hit you now, and you had half a mind to just pack up and go home. But you remembered Emma’s words to you before you stormed into the changing rooms. You knew she’d have your neck at training for the next three months if you didn't do as you were asked.
So you stood up, slotting your phone into your pocket, making your way back through the tunnel. The volume of the crowd was starting to get louder, and with each step you took, the less you felt inclined to follow through with the orders you were given.
You were about to turn the corner that led to the field when you were pushed back against the wall, your arms pinned above your head, your body caged in by someone tall and firm.
“Are your cheeks always so red, Y/l/n? Cause every time I see you, you look like you're on fire.”
“Piss off, McCabe.”
Katie was towering over you, unpinning your hands from their place above your head, leaning down so that you could see every detail of her face.
“You're free to go.”
“You're a right pain in the arse.”
She was laughing at you now. “Am I bothering you, Miss Australia?”
“Stop calling me that!” You knew your cheeks were flaming now but you couldn't help it.
Katie grabbed your face with her hand harshly, pulling you closer so that you were forced to look her straight in the eyes. “No, you don't like that?” Her hips met yours, and you squirmed. “What about Baby, eh? Everyone seems to call you Baby. You act like one so I guess it suits.”
“Katie—”
“Oh, so you're calling me Katie now, are ‘ya? I call you Baby and you call me Katie, is that what's happening?”
“No.”
Katie scoffed, placing her knee in between your thighs, keeping you planted between her. You had nowhere to put your hands, so you decided behind your back was appropriate. You felt the subtle movements of her knee in between your legs, her eyes watching for your reaction intently.
“No?”
You watched her head move down to your ear, her breath fanning across your neck. Her lips gradually grew closer to your pulse point, where goosebumps poured over your skin. When the warm sensation of her lips met your neck, your body subconsciously relaxed on her knee, making you jolt at the sudden friction applied to your core.
“Yes.” You ushered, pulling your hands out awkwardly as your neck reclined against the wall, your face etched to the ceiling. You were so, so stupid. What were you thinking?
“Yes… what?” You heard her say, her tongue swirling across the harsh mark she just made below your ear. You hesitantly fell back down on her knee, holding in the groan that yearned to leave your lips. This time, as you tried to regain the dispersing shards of your dignity, lifting your heat off her knee, her hands moved to seize your waist, pushing your hips down to roll against her knee.
The motion made you whine. “Yes, Katie.”
The woman chuckled as she coerced your hips back and forth, sucking and licking down your neck and across your collarbone. Feeling a slight ache from the game she just played, the sensation of the majority of your body weight rubbing against her knee made the Arsenal Victory even more triumphant.
“Is this okay, Baby?” She asked, leaving your neck cold as she waited for your response. You were so tired from the past few days that you slumped on Katie’s knee, waiting for her to continue kissing and moving you as she pleased.
“I need to shake people’s hands.” Your voice was meek but clear.
Katie looked at you, taken aback. “What?”
You wrapped your arms off her shoulders, holding them together in front of you. “Emma told me I need to shake everyone’s hands after the game is finished. She’ll be really angry if I don't.”
Katie’s smirk was back. “Will she now?”
You, too exhausted to realise she was egging you on, nodded. “Yes. So I have to—”
“Shake my hand?”
“Yes.”
Katie leaned in, raising her eyebrows. “What if I don't want to shake your hand?”
You were evidently stumped at the question, pursing your lips as you struggled to find a response. Katie's smile grew, and you grew bitter.
She moved to kiss your neck again to silence your upcoming retort. “What will Hayes do if you don't shake my hand, hm? She’d be so disappointed in you, wouldn't she?”
You tried to focus on anything but her lips led closer to your breasts. “McCabe, I need to—”
“What are you going to tell her, hm? When she asks you if you shook my hand, are you ‘gonna tell her that you tried to get off on my leg instead?”
You were at loss for words. Was she wrong? Of course, she wasn't. Katie McCabe was never fucking wrong, and here you were, pathetic on her knee, about to get off to your enemy calling you Baby, when you tell her you need to shake her hand. You really were a baby.
“Is that what you're going to say to her, Baby?”
“N-no.”
“Why not? It's the truth. You wouldn't want to lie, would you?”
“No.”
“No, what?”
“I'm not going to tell her that.”
She must've caught onto your honest dispute, slowly dragging her knee directly onto your clit and rubbing circles over it. You didn't expect her movements, so you moaned, pulling your head into her neck and breathing heavily.
You were so out of breath it wasn't funny. “I’m- I told Jessie I’d spend a night at her house.”
“I didn't take you for the cheating type, Y/l/n.”
“She's not my girlfriend.”
Katie slowed down her movements. “I ‘spose you weren't thinking you’d get off with her knee tonight, would you?”
“No, we were just going to watch a movie.”
“How ‘bout this?” She whispered, pushing your hips against the wall. “You go and shake everyone’s hands like a good girl and I’ll treat you like one afterwards.”
You groaned when she pulled her knee out from under you, feeling your inner dread grow when you heard the full-time whistle and a tsunami of cheers.
“We won 4-1.”
“Still second on the ladder.”
“You have bite for someone who was just moaning fully clothed.”
“Goodbye, McCabe.” You snapped, trying to act Almighty and unbothered by the longing in between your legs. You had to double-check that nothing had leaked through from how wet you were, trudging up the tunnel without a second glance back.
When you found yourself on the pitch, you made a point to shake each of the Arsenal player's hands, including the ones on the bench, which had been nothing short of mortifying. Almost all of them looked at you strangely, trying to push past the obvious awkwardness and reciprocate the sportsmanship, except for the Aussie girls, who hugged you and offered warm conversation with the buzz of their victory.
“Is your ankle okay?” Caitlin asked, pulling you out of an embrace with worry smeared across her features.
You nodded, showing her the bruise by moving your sock. “Yeah, just some bruising. You guys played really well.”
Steph did the same: hug and condolences, while Kyra was completely opposite.
“LONDON IS RED!” She screamed, laughing when she mounted your back from behind.
“Get off, loser.” You retorted, pulling her into a hug as the two of you met in the middle of the field. You knew heaps of people were waiting for signatures, but you didn't care.
“What’s all over your neck?” She asked, grabbing your jaw and observing the fresh marks.
Shit, you thought, recalling the sensation of Katie’s lips tugging at your skin.
You pulled away, hoping distance would lessen the stringency of them. “I think it was from the grass. Y’know, when I fell.”
“Oh, don't worry, I know.” Kyra giggled, seemingly too full of energy to remember what she said two seconds ago. “You need to take a chill pill, Y/n/n. I’ll be sending you all the TikTok edits of you and Katie when I get home, don't you worry.”
“Please don't.” You muttered, holding out your hand to interlock it with Kyra’s. “Are you going straight home or?”
Kyra chuckled. “After this win? No fucking way.”
“You're still second on the ladder.” You reminded yet another Arsenal player.
Kyra poked her tongue out. “Boo, you whore.”
Kyra left you to celebrate with her teammates, marking her as the last Arsenal girl you needed to shake hands with.
You walked back into the changing rooms with an impassive frown on your face. Lots of the girls were already in the showers, Jessie among the few that had already finished and changed.
“We still up for tonight?” You asked, hoping your prior plans that you made before the game were still available after the thrashing they had just endured.
Jessie nodded, pulling you into a hug. “Sam, Millie, and Erin are all going to the pub to have a drink. They want us to come with them, you in?”
“Why not?” You replied, kissing the girl’s forehead before packing your bag.
You were glad that you were going out with your teammates instead of caving and finding Katie. But something deep down made you ponder whether what just happened was a one-off thing.
Spoiler: it wasn't.

“Ay dios mio.”
Alexia Putellas x Reader
Warnings: suggestive, alluded smut at the end, but no actually smut if that makes sense, hatred which turns out to be r and AP being dumbasses in love.
Summary: Maybe you don’t hate ‘La Reina’ as much as you thought you did.
You and Alexia had been rivals for as long as you could remember. She was snarky, often making snide remarks on the pitch, she was mean and often times her comments actually hurt your feelings. Though you'd never admit to that.
She pissed you off. Everything about her pissed you off. Her perfect eyes, her stupidly perfect face, her nice body, her ridiculously kind personality off the pitch, the way she'd stop and take pictures with fans even when she was in the biggest rush of her life. You hated just how perfect she was, how drop dead fucking gorgeous she was to you.
God, you had it bad for Alexia Putellas.
***
When the World Cup rolled around, you were ecstatic to have received a call up. And you had gladly accepted.
You felt like you were floating on air as you arrived in Australia. Then you found out you were doomed to share a room with her. Of all the people on the Spanish national team, it just had to be her, didn't it?
Your face scrunched in annoyance at the sight of your name next to Alexia's on the piece of paper the coach had given you. Why her of all people?
Alexia must have been thinking the same, as you saw her face scrunch in disgust, mumbling “Ay dios mio.” (Oh my God) Under her breath, in that stupidly perfect voice of her's. God you hated her. Well, not exactly her, but rather how much you liked her.
God, you really, really liked her.
***
Upon arriving at the room, Alexia having gone shortly before you, you saw Alexia outside. She appeared to be struggling with the keycard.
"Joder." (Fuck.) She mumbled.
"Need some help, la reina?" (The Queen.) You said sarcastically.
***
Alexia's pov.
"Need some help, la reina?" (The Queen.) Y/N said. You froze upon hearing the voice, grumbling before wordlessly passing the keycard to her and rolling your eyes.
God you hated how perfect she looked with that cocky grin on her face. The one she got whenever she sunk a goal into the back of Barca's net when she played against them.
"What's the matter, Putellas? Cat got your tongue, eh?" She teased. God you hated her. And how good she always managed to look, even jet lagged and tired. And how her teeth are so pearly white it's enough to make you swoon and how her stupidly bright eyes are so kind and- Oh.
This wasn't hate. This was a crush.
You grimaced, turning your head to the side and walking inside, hearing her grumble, "Supongo que sí." (I guess so) and walking in behind you.
***
Y/N'S POV.
What happened with Alexia outside threw you off, usually she would make a comment back, take the mick a little bit. But she hadn't. She sounded almost disappointed? But for what?
You decided to push it into the back of your mind, ignoring everything about 'La Reina' . God, you hated her. No you don't, you remind yourself, cringing when you realise that what you thought was hate that you had for Alexia could very well be... a crush.
Dios mio, you thought as you placed your bags down on the bed. Sighing heavily you wiped your forehead for sweat, grimacing when you realised you had been sweating since before you had even landed. You needed a shower.
As you turned to go to the shower, you see Alexia. In only her Barcelona training shorts and a sports bra. You couldn't stop your eyes wandering down to her impeccable abs.
She quirked an eyebrow, smirking smugly. "My eyes are up here, amiga." (Friend.) She said smugly, taking a step toward you as your eyes snapped up to hers.
"Hm. And what nice eyes they are." You muttered, trying to not let her hear, knowing she'd hang it over your head for months to come.
"Oh so my eyes are nice?" She chuckled, taking another step. Your eyes travelled back down to her abs.
"Maybe." You hummed, eyes meeting hers again as she lifts your chin with her index finger. She smirked.
"Is that a maybe?" She said, her eyes flicking down to your lips as she licks her own slightly. "Or is it a yes?" She stared into your eyes softly.  She smelled like her perfume. Her stupidly nice smelling perfume. And her breath smelled like mint, it was like a breath of chilled air when you felt her breath against your face.
"And what if it was a yes, La Reina?" You decided to bite, playing into Alexia's little teasing game. You smirked slightly, quirking an eyebrow.
"Then I might kiss you."
That was all it took before your lips were on hers, shoving your bags off your bed before straddling her hips and deepening the kiss, which she was more than happy to reciprocate, gripping your hips.
"Maybe I don't hate you." She breathed out as you part.
"Maybe I don't hate you either, Reina." You chuckled, making her smile.
"Shut up and kiss me."
"Okay."

one of the boys // charles leclerc
Tumblr media
summary: she's worked for ferrari for four years now. four years that only let her feelings for their number one driver grow stronger and stronger, until she wishes that charles leclerc would stop seeing her as just one of the boys, and start seeing her the way that she sees him
pairing: charles leclerc x mechanic! reader
warnings: ferrari fuckups, sexual tension, sad charles, actually charles goes through a whole range of emotions, matchmaker seb, mentions of workplace harassment, set in the 2022 season when charles won australia, sexual innuendos and references.
she sat on the halo, her feet resting against the seat as she leaned over the engine compartment, her boiler suit tied off around her waist and her hair pinned to the back of her head as the bahrain sun beat down.
ferrari had bottled it again. which meant double-duty for the pit crew to fix it for jeddah.
the radio hummed softly in the background as she cursed, losing her grip on the ratchet. when the engine fried itself, it had also made the parts a lot harder to take apart.
"fucking hell." she groaned, resting her head against the cool, red body of the car. "vasseur was supposed to fix this."
"what are you still doing here? you should have left at least an hour ago?"
the movement in the garage, as well as the voice breaking the almost-silence was enough to get her to look up, heart hammering against her ribcage.
the same annoyingly alert reaction that she'd had to his presence for the last two years.
"charles. what are you doing here?"
"hiding." the driver smiled sadly. the balaclava lines had faded fomr his face, but she could still see the sweat in his hair, the scent of the race mingling with his team-sponsored cologne. "you know how it is after a weekend like this."
"yeah, i do." she could feel the blush creeping onto her face, and she subtly pinched herself to try and make it go down. charles leclerc couldn't give her butterflies, it wasn't right. technically speaking, he was her superior.
but that didn't change how much she cared about him, how much she longed to feel the monegasque's lips against hers
"you should not be working. come out with the rest of us, we're getting drinks and commiserating. did i use that word right?"
it was hard for y/n not to smile at charles' attempt to learn the english language. he had a fantastic grip on the language, but when he tried to use larger words to sound cooler, it was usually followed up with uncertainty, all adding to what she liked to call his 'boston terrier energy'.
"yeah, you got that one right." she chuckled, dismounting the car, pain rocketing through the nerves in her feet as she hit the ground too hard. "that's a beauty of a car. such a shame that the scuderia doesn't know how to treat it properly."
standing next to charles, she was all too aware that she was wearing nothing but a sports bra on the top half of her body, and she wondered if she could pull her boiler suit back on without charles noticing.
charles snorted. "try driving that thing."
she patted him on the shoulder, a sad smile on her face. "give me ten minutes to go put some proper clothes on, and then we'll go out somewhere. drinks are on me, god knows you deserve it."
______
"seb, i don't know what to do!" y/n groaned, face against the tabeltop as the german man laughed.
sebastian vettel had been the closest thing she had to a father when she was on the road with the scuderia. in all fairness, the job with ferrari hadn't even been what she went to school for. she had picked engineering at college because it was what everybody else was doing, and she'd stumbled upon this job by accident with the promise of travel. when she was starting to regret everything, it had been sebastian who had convinced her to stay.
"ugh, this is so not funny!" she shouted, throwing her arms in the air and wincing as her knuckle banged against the shop window. they were in a quaint little café in fiji ahead of the australian grand prix, and y/n was in need of some serious advice.
but to get advice from seb, you needed to bribe him with coffee first. hence why they were in the rustic cafe, every bare surface covered in plants that sebastian had spent ages talking to the manager about.
sebastian vettel was a nerd. in a good way, of course.
"you're a lovely young woman, y/n. you have a nice figure."
"does hanna know you're out here complimenting younger women?" she joked, taking a sip from her strawberry lemonade.
sebastian laughed, shaking his head. "you need to let everybody else see that side of you, y/n. let your hair down, wear a nice pair of jeans for once instead of that boiler suit. let the world see the lovely girl that we all know is there."
"i'm going to miss you when you retire."
"i know, kiddo. listen, we're all going out after the race, to have drinks and whatever. go out with hanna, buy yourself a nice new dress on my credit card, and then come out for drinks with us. i guarantee that one look at you will whip charles into shape. you're a catch, y/n. i think that charles would be lucky to have someone like you in his life."
"i'm already a part of his life. as a work friend. and i'm accepted that i'm not likely to be anything more."
seb raised an eybrow. "doesn't sound like it."
in another bar, on another part of the small island of fiji, carlos and charles were having a very similar conversation.
"carlos, i can't make a move! technically, i'm higher ranking at ferrari than she is. there's a power imbalance, what if she feels like she can't say no? it's a harassment case waiting to happen!" charles whined, a pint glass clutched in his hands.
carlos shook his head, an annoyed sigh escaping the back of his throat. "you're an idiot, hermano. she's in love with you! you think you're the only person who sees her staring at you in the garage?
"forgive me if that's not something i want to be wrong about. i could be staking our careers on your little hunch."
groaning, carlos buried his head in his hands. getting through to his teammate was a hopeless and futile affair. once charles leclerc was set in his ways about something, there was no changing his mind.
"what about the party in australia? ask her to dance, buy her a drink? you're not getting any younger, charles. you need to get back out there and start dating again."
______
as f1 descended on albert park, the glitz and glamour taking over melbourne, y/n y/l/n and hanna vettel were standing in a small, glitzy boutique, armed with hanna's husband's credit card. the young ferrari mechanic was standing in front of a floor-length mirror, her hair falling around her shoulders.
"hanna, i don't know how i feel about this." she inhaled, staring at her reflection and the ferrari red dress that hugged her figure. "i love it, honestly, i do, i just cringe at the thought of ever wearing it outside of the house. especially if i;m in front of charles!"
hanns sighed, brushing her fingers through the younger girl's hair. "have a little bit of faith in yourself, darling. you look stunning, this dress shows off all your best physical attributes, and charles already knows your best qualities."
"yeah, because who else is going to sing nineties stoner rock songs in the car on the way to the track with me?" y/n laughed, remembering singing ‘teenage dirtbag’ with charles on their way to the track in jeddah, a carpool with some of the other mechanics. charles barely knew the words, but then again, y/n got them wrong a lot as well. “yeah, okay. lets do this fucking thing.”
hanna grinned. “that’s our girl!”
hours later, she was regretting her decision, standing in front of the club in her baggy leather jacket, shaky knees knocking together as she stood outside the front door in her heels and that tiny little dress, voices and laughter wafting through the walls as the inside hummed with the rarity of a ferrari victory. she nervously tapped her fingers against the side of her purse as a group of haas mechanics crossed the parking lot, wolf whistling at her before she flipped them both the bird.
“are you coming inside, or are you just going to stand there and freeze your balls off?”
“oh, if only I had balls to freeze. and this is bloody australia, its not even that cold.” y/n chuckled to herself, turning to look at jessica hawkins, one of the aston martin young drivers. “I need someone to remind me that I dont look stupid in this goddamn dress that hanna vettel picked out for me.”
jessica cocked an eyebrow, looking the mechanic up and down. “babes, you look hot! who are you trying to impress?”
“charles.” y/n mumbled, her face flushing pink before she cleared her throat. “its stupid, isn’t it?”
the other young woman shook her head. “not at all.” she grinned, linking her arm through y/n’s. “come on, lets go get you your man!”
the inside of the club was crowded, yet closed to the public as f1, f2, and the w series descended on the establishment. all of the f3 drivers were too young to legally drink, and had made their displeasure quite clear as they were herded away to an italian restaurant instead of the club.
"drinks for the lovely ladies?" abbie eaton chortled, bringing tequila shots over to where the mechanic and jessica were standing. "cheers on three, yeah?"
jessica sounded off with the countdown, the three women tapping the tiny glasses against each other before throwing back the burning alcoholic drink.
"if i'm going to do this," y/n began, raising her voice to be heard over the drake song that was playing. "i'm doing it right!" she took off her jacket, throwing it over a chair before she made her way over to the dj booth, her ballet flats sticking to the floor.
after a whispered conversation (and a monetary bribe), wheatus' 2000 hit 'teenage dirtbag' began to play over the speakers as y/n and jessica took to the floor, champagne flutes in hand as they began to dance.
from across the way, under the deep blue lights, charles leclerc was in a trance as he watched the way she moved, laughing and giggling as she sang along, finally getting each word right. adn charles would be lying if he said he didn't love the way her legs looked in that short little dress, how full her breasts looked in the red fabric that cradled them.
"is he still being a pussy?" pierre gasly groaned. "come on, man! you won the fucking race, and that's still not giving you the confidence you need to tell her you have a crush on her?"
"i'd rather not embarrass myself too much, thank you pierre." charles grumbled, taking another sip of his fruity mixed drink.
"he won't even drink proper alcohol." carlos commented. "i think she broke him."
pierre shook his head. "i will not stand for this, i am not letting it go on any longer. ilies!" he shouted, waving over his best friend- save for charles of course- and social media manager. "we need you to do something for us, for charles."
ilies nadri nodded. "it's about that girl he keeps talking about, isn't it?"
"exactly. so here's what you're going to do."
back on the dancefloor, y/n was beginning to forget that charles was watching, laughing and singing with jessica as the dj began to play 'toxic' by britney spears, at a drunken lando norris' request.
"looks like you've got an admirier. and it's not charles." nerea marti pointed out, nudging her head in the direction of ilies nadri, who was beginning to make his way over to the girls.
"well, if charles isn't interested." jessica shrugged, calpping her on the shoulders. "you look too pretty tonight to go home alone if you don't want to, and it looks like there's a good looking bloke who wants to join ya."
moments blurred as nadri took y/n's hand, pressing a kiss to her knuckles and making her laugh with a french come-on, and before she knew it they were dancing to britney.
and she had forgotten about him, about the reason she wore that red dress in the first place.
but charles never forgot about her, his eyes boring into the back of ilies' head as he watched them dancing to a christina aguilera song. his grip was steadily tightening on his glass, and carlos looked over at him with a concerned glance.
"are you sure that getting her to dance with ilies was the smartest idea?" carlos whispered under his breath, raising his eyebrow at pierre. "he's going to break the fucking glass."
"or, he'll get jealous and go over there." pierre reasoned.
"how the fuck do you have a girlfriend, gasly?"
but pierre's reasoning must have been rooted in proof, for charles put down his glass and tromped over to the dance floor, his eyes a certain shade of jealous as he prepared himself to finally make a move.
he didn't speak, sweeping over the dancefloor to grab y/n's arm and pull her away from ilies and away from the dancefloor and it's illuminated vinyl flooring.
"charles, what is wrong with you?" y/n shouted, tispy on her feet and buzzing from alcohol as she tried to ignore the way her chest tightened and her heart skipped a beat at charles' possessiveness.
"i'm in love with you." he blurted out, desperation in his voice. "and i'm tired of hiding how i feel. i don't care how it looks to the outside, or to mattia, but i want to be with you. you were never just one of the boys to me, y/n. you were just you. and i like who i am with you. i want to be able to be that person for you, all the time."
"charles." she said softly, heart softening before starting and stopping again in an erratic beating pattern that would have worried her if she could have heard the beating over the refrain of charles' confessions playing on loop in her mind, louder and louder each time. "just kiss me."
and that's what charles did, an *nsync song playing in the background as he mashed his lips to hers, backing her up against the wall as she giggled, wrapping a slender, bare leg around his own, arms looped haphazardly around his neck and over his shoulders.
"charles, your phone isn't in your front pocket, right?" she panted.
charles looked confused, resting his forehead against hers. "no, i always put it in my back pocket."
"fuck." y/n all but moaned, arousal pooling in her own thighs as she thought about what was in between charles'. "that means that it's your rock-hard cock that's pressing against me right now, and that's so fucking hot."
grinning to himself, charles pressed up against her even more. "whay don't you join me at my hotel, and i'll show you just how fucking hard you make me."
"is that a threat or an invitation?"
"it's whatever you want it to be, mon cher."
"kiss me one more time, and you've got a deal."

warnings: slightly proofread + nsfw + not intended for minors
a/n: clearing out my drafts.. feedback is always appreciated xx
Tumblr media
《 the following content is not intended for minors. 》
the days have been long and boring without your lover in Monaco. he’s hours ahead of you, peacefully asleep in Australia, while you finish up an essay only wishing for those sweet lips against your shoulder blades.
he’d always congratulate you on your hard work. lips tingle all over your body while his hands pull at the material of your shirt, he pulls you into his lap saying he’s been so patient and now he needs your fingers all over him.
it doesn’t take much convincing for you to press the call button on your phone, you stare at yourself on the screen figuring maybe he needs a congratulatory message.
the shirt you’re wearing is thrown to the side revealing the lacy bra you’ve been sporting all day, it’s his favorite if you recall correctly.
the line says “connecting” and soon enough you’re greeted to a dark screen and the sounds of the hotel air conditioning, “amour,” he groans, you can hear the things on his nightstand fall as he swears trying to the light switch of the lamp.
when he finally does, he squints a little trying to get used to how bright it is, the bright red floral lacy is all he can see, and when his eyes adjust he blinks a little at the sight.
“where’s that pretty face?” he asks, you hear him click a screenshot before you move backwards to reveal all of you. you’re in his sweatpants and his favorite lacy bra.
“what’s this for?” he groans, you have no idea just how hard you made him. it’s nearly three in the morning and he can’t believe how bad he missed you. he never got like this, and you never FaceTimed him this horny before.
“just to congratulate you on being one of the best drivers in formula 2.” you flip around on the screen, hands working the hooks of your bra, he watches the material fall down your front and drop to the floor.
“turn for me.” he begs, a little whine escapes his lips when he sees your breasts come into view. he licks his lips, head tilting backwards as you see he took a photo of the FaceTime.
“you kill me.” he whines, you hear his breath hitch, he wants to show you how you make him feel, but he’s too busy watching you slip out of his sweatpants to reveal the tiny thong.
he groans, your name sounds like a whine against his lips, he can’t stand you. as much as this was all about showing him how proud you are, he wishes you were in the hotel bed with him. he wishes your fingers were stroking his cock rather than his own.
“I can’t wait for you to get home.” you lean against the mattress, sweet innocent smile on your lips watching him toy himself.
“you’ll be the death of me one day.”

Hello everyone!
The story is happening in March 2023.

TW : Hungover
PART 2 | PART 3
Feeling like an elephant is sitting on her head, Katie lets go of a little groan of discomfort when she wakes up. The curtains having been closed last night (or rather this morning), the Irish is unable to say what time it is. But she vaguely remembers that today is a day of and that she has plenty of time to stay in her bed, her head under her cushion, promising herself to never touch a single drop of alcohol again.
Inhaling deeply through her nose, Katie puts a hand on her painful skull while keeping her eyes closed, trying to remember the events of last night. She perfectly remembers going out with the girls from Arsenal to celebrate Stina’s birthday, a dance floor and way too many cocktails.
It's while rolling on the back that Katie freezes suddenly, when her body enters in collision with another. Katie’s eyes suddenly open and she gets up on her elbows to see who is next to her. She sees nothing, however, except a back and brown hair.
She brought a girl home last night.
Lifting the sheets, Katie quickly realizes that she is dressed in a sports bra and shorty, her usual outfit when she sleeps. Her night companion is wearing an Irish football shirt with her name and number on it. Releasing the sheets, Katie lets herself fall back on her pillow, her mind walking at a hundred an hour, desperately trying to remember who she brought home last night.
Partly to avoid the humiliation of not remembering the name of her conquest, but also because Caitlin was there last night. Caitlin who almost didn't return from Australia after Christmas and who she is closer than ever. It was only when the Australian thought about not coming back that Katie realized that there was more than friendship in her feelings for her. That she’s slowly but deeply falling in love with her.
Her breakup with Ruesha dates from almost a year ago, almost at the same time as Caitlin and Lia broke up too. If they seem to have managed to remain courteous to each other despite the suffering that a breakup brings, it's far from the same for Katie and Ruesha. There is no longer any exchange between them and Katie happily ignores her ex when she has to meet her in training camps.
So it’s perfectly normal for her to move on, but Katie knows that Caitlin is struggling with her mental health and she doesn't want to impose too much on the Australian. But if Caitlin saw her leaving with another girl last night, there is not a fucking chance left. And Katie suddenly feels nauseous.
"Can you stop fucking moving?"
Katie freezes again when she hears the voice of the person next to her, the accent easily recognizable to her.
"Caitlin?"
"Shut up, god, please" moaned Caitlin, her head on her forehead, apparently also suffering from a pretty hangover.
It's at this precise moment that everything comes back into place in Katie’s mind, each of the memories taking place in the Irish’s head. And it also allows her to shake herself a little, mentally at least.
" ’m coming back" Katie mumbles, Caitlin replies only with a vague grunt.
The Irish girl almost fall in the dress that Caitlin wore last night but nevertheless manages to reach her bathroom in which she locks herself before sitting in her bathtub to call Leah. By Facetime, by habit.
"Hello?" ended up doing Leah’s voice after what feels like an eternity.
The screen is completely black, without Katie knowing if it’s because the screen is hidden or if it’s because Leah is still in bed. Not that it’s what interests her now to be completely honest.
"Leah I’m into deep"
"What’s going on?"
Leah’s voice looks more awake and Katie manages to draw the contours of her friend’s face, certifying that she is in the dark.
"I… I slept with Caitlin last night" the Irish mumbles, glancing at the door, hopping that Caitlin can't hear her.
"Yes and?"
The answer surprises Katie so much that she remains stuck for a few seconds before her emotions regain the upper hand, like a champagne cork that comes out of the bottle when shaken too much.
"What do you mean, and? That’s all you can think of? It’s Caitlin, Leah!"
"Yes well excuse me, but after having surprised you in full makeout session against your car after you went missing for about thirty minutes, I suspected what would follow"
But Katie sighs softly and pinches her nose, hoping to gather her spirits. Which is not an easy thing with a terrible hangover.
"I don’t understand" Leah continues "You are all over her for weeks. How is it a bad thing?"
"I wish it was different. What if she doesn’t remember? What if she regrets? I should never have done that when she was drunk."
"You were drunk too and from what I saw, she was entirely consenting, Kat'. You are my friend and I love you but I would have stepped in if it had been the opposite"
Katie remains silent about this, she knows perfectly that Leah is right. The blonde doesn’t hesitate to tell her friends if she thinks they are wrong. This is something the Irish woman appreciates.
"Listen, get out of your tub, go talk to her. There’s no point in taking it on yourself until you know what it’s like for her."
"She’s wearing my Irish jersey" says Katie randomly
Leah laughs and Katie can’t help but smile when she hears her, a guilty smile displayed on her face.
"But why?" asks Leah between two laughs
"She was cold and at the time I found it sexy"
Katie shrugs and Leah laughs again before smiling teasingly.
"You could have kept her warm though"
"Okay, I’ll hang up now" Katie says rolling her eyes.
"Bye!" chuckles Leah before hanging up.
Katie’s smile remains a few seconds on her face, before she realizes that she really have to leave her bathroom and go to confront the young woman who is in her bed. She nevertheless takes the time to make a passage through the kitchen to recover two bottles of water, after swallowing two paracetamol and taking others for Caitlin.
Katie is a little hesitant when entering her room, wondering if the Australian has fallen asleep again. But this is not the case, still lying on her side, Caitlin has her face turned towards the door when Katie makes her entrance.
"Hey" gently makes the youngest by mechanically pushing the door with her foot.
"If we had been at my house, I would have thought you had gone home" Caitlin mutters, following her with her eyes as she drops a pill and a bottle of water on the nightstand. "Thanks"
Katie sits by her side when Caitlin sits, swallowing in turn the medicine and some water. A little silence sets in, Katie torturing her mind to know how to approach the subject. But it’s finally Caitlin who speaks, mechanically raising Katie’s gaze on her. "So... About what happened last night..." "Yeah" But Caitlin adds nothing, her eyes dipped into Katie’s, as if she were looking for answers to questions. It’s hard for Katie to tell if the striker can find what she was looking for, but Caitlin ends up speaking again a few seconds later. "Look, if you want to act like nothing happened..." "No!" Katie abruptly grabbed Caitlin’s hand. "No. I just... do you remember everything from last night?" It’s strange for Caitlin to see Katie struggling to explain things and talk to her. She is usually known to be outspoken and fearless. Today, she seems almost embarrassed. "Is that what’s got you in such a state?" asks Caitlin, gently frowning. "In part. I know that you are not necessarily at your best moral level and sincerely I would be terribly sorry if you regret this morning" "I don’t regret anything" Caitlin gently smiled, tightening her hand around Katie’s. "Yeah?" Katie smiled back When Caitlin nods and lies on the cushions behind her, Katie goes over her to lie by her side. Warm under her duvet and looking up at the ceiling, Katie is lost in her thoughts when Caitlin resumes speaking. "I lied. I think I have a regret after all" "About what?" Katie turns her head to look at Caitlin. Lying in the same position as her, Caitlin slightly turns her head to look back at Katie. The worry that squeezed Katie’s stomach loosens a little when seeing her smile. Their hands are always in each other and Katie’s thumb mechanically draws circles on Caitlin’s hand.
"These cocktails. I’ve never had such a headache."

Ruesha Littlejohn | Camp, confessions and Katie
A/N: Mentions of blood.
Tumblr media
I was tackled by Katie fucking McCabe for the 3rd time in less than an hour. Did I mention that we are back in Ireland on the national squads practice? At this pace, I’m not even gonna make it till the fifa women’s in Australia next month.
I pushed myself of the ground again, both of my knees ripped up with my shorts. I brushed the dirt from my legs and looked up at Katie. “Katie, I swear to god, one more time and I’ll hurt you!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. Me and Katie never got along very well. Especially now that there were rumors of her cheating on my bestfriend with Foord.
I stood there staring while trying to calm down. Ruesha then pointed to her nose signaling that my nose was bleeding. I wiped my nose. Low and behold, there was blood. That was the final straw for me. Even thought Katie was stronger than me, I was faster than Katie. I looked at the blood on my hands, and decided that I was done. I lunged after her as she started running at 90% capacity. I held on right behind her running comfortably. Katie was slacking and I was still feeling frisky. We ran around the field 3 times before I decided that I was done chasing, so on the last round I tackled her right in front of the team cooler. I tucked her arms under my legs and opened up the cooler, pouring pure ice at her. She screamed as she tried to get away, but I just sat there shaking my head. “You absolute ass” i muttered as i took some ice and shoved it into her shorts and her sports bra as I got up.
We had all played for the under 16’s and 18’s together but for some reason I couldn’t stand her. Her attitude was horrible, she was a terrible friend and she was even worse to Ruesha. The numbers of times that I had picked Ruesha up because Katie had caused a fight or gotten black out drunk was outrageous. I had told Ruesha multiple times to leave Katie, but she just couldn’t.
Later that day, we were split into teams. White and green. As soon as I saw Katie being put on the green team, I knew that meant trouble. I rolled my eyes as I turned to Ruesha. “She’s ruthless” I said as I rubbed my nose, still in agony. A few weeks prior, she took out my jaw and dislocated it in a match between Arsenal and Chelsea. And the little fucker didn’t even get a red card. “Any questions?” The coach said as she threw white vests on us. I raised my hand as I eyed Katie “What are the rules like?” I asked and the coaches shot me a dumb look. “The regular rules, Benedicte. Anywa-“ and I cut her off. “Okay, so the only way for Katie to get carded is if she physically kills someone on the field?” I asked sarcastically. The coach rolled her eyes and told us to get ready.
I got in my position with Ruesha behind me. By the look of Katie’s horns I knew I was in for a hell of a game. The game went on and after I had been tackled 3 times, pushed 5 times and kicked twice in my non existent acl; I decided that I had gotten enough. I pushed myself off the ground and looked at Ruesha. “Be nice, Benedicte” she said with a concern in her voice. “Mmm” I said back with the fakest smile I’ve flashed someone. Now, I wasn’t really planning on doing anything until Katie pushed Ruesha face down in an attack. As Katie rushed past me with the ball, I rushed after and shoved her straight into the ground, pretending to miss the ball as I kicked her arm and then caught up with the ball as I passed it on. Her team was screaming for a card while she was laying flat on the ground, but the coach looked at us and screamed “figure it out” know that it would cause more problems than do good.
Tumblr media
Truth is, I loved Ruesha first. No really, I actually did. When we were teenagers, we had something going before McBastard came and swept her off her feet. It had been a turbulent relationship between them since day one, yet Ruesha pretended that everything was fine. I knew that Ruesha was suffering, and lately things had taken a turn for the worse with Caitlin Foord joining, McBastard’s team Arsenal.
We ended winning 7-4 over the green team and as I came home, I was immediately fast asleep. I woke up 4 hours later with everything aching, “fucking McCabe” I mumbled to myself as I tried to find my phone so I could orientate myself. “22.48” I mumbled and decided I was gonna go back to sleep. A second later I realised that I had 82 missed calls from Ruesha.
I was about to call back when I heard banging on my door. “Fuckn hell” I mumbled as it sounded like someone were about to rip my door of its hinges. “This better be important be cau-“ and then I was cut off by ruesha sobbing in the pouring rain with a soaked bag next to her. I used a few seconds to access just to make sure I wasn’t sleeping. “Rues, what on earth is going on” I said as I dragged her inside, but she just sobbed and clung to me like cligwrap. Here we go again I thought to myself.
She showed me her soaked phone as she sobbed, revealing pictures of Katie and Caitlin at a party with the arsenals a few weeks prior. I pulled her in for a hug, and for the first time; I actually felt bad for her. “Okay, I’m getting soaked as well. How about you put on something dry and I’ll find something hot to eat yeh?” I suggested as she sniffled and shuffled with her bag to the bathroom leaving a trail of water. “Jesus” I mumbled to myself as I realised that all her clothes was probably soaked, so I grabbed a sweatshirt, socks and shorts from my own closet. “Hey, is there a chance I cou-“ she yelled from the bathroom as I opened the door. “Could borrow some clothes? Yes” I said as I threw it towards her. She thanked me , and I went to the kitchen. I didn’t really have any proper comforting foods, so I chucked a frozen pizza in the oven.
Later that evening, we found ourselves sitting in my bed while eating and looking out at the busy life outside. It was Friday, so there were tons of people in the streets. Mostly drunks but also random people. “You see the man with the fedora? He thinks he is Mexican because his father is 1/8 Mexican.” I said and Ruesha laughed while I pointed him out. “And you see the muscle bro with the tiny dog? His girlfriend brought it but now he is stuck with it.” Ruesha laughed again as I smiled. “My turn! She pointed out a girl standing in the corner on her phone outside of the bar. “That girl is only at the bar for the pictures and then she’s going home” she joked, and I laughed. I always laughed at her jokes, both bad and good jokes. Anything to see her smile. I couldn’t resist myself as I pointed out a girl with the same blonde hair as mine with the same light blue eyes. “And she, she has liked her bestfriend since they were teens but her bestfriend dosent know and is dating a human version of an asshole” I finished, and Ruesha laughed so hard that she was crying. I mentally slapped myself as I had hoped that she would’ve gotten my hint. Oh well, patience is my key.
“So, I’m tired and you woke me up mid nap. I’m gonna sleep now, you can do whatever you want as long as you don’t rip a hole in my wall or rearrange my living room.” I joked as I yawned. I laid down and Ruesha followed after.
“Benedicte?”
“Mmm”
“Can I share something”
“Mmmm”
“I think it’s over for real this time.”
“You’ll get through it.”
“And what if I don’t”
“Then I’ll pull you out if it.”
I grabbed her hand, and I drifted off to sleep.

Obligotry Once-a-Month art post, and here's the main five designs lol.
I'm hella busy right now and I already barely had time to draw the Lagoona and Cleo designs, I then realized I had some problems with my first take on the big three so I redesigned them. I'll make bios for Lagoona and Cleo (as well as Ghoulia and Spectra, who are supposed to be part of this "Wave 1" lineup), but just unshaded full-bodies for now.
edit: Individual artworks cause the main image is blurry as shit 😭

Tangent under the Cut!
I made some little changes for Frankie ( I now realize I didn't even complete the pattern of the leg warmers, but ngl I'm vibing with the asymmetry). I just thought their design was too busy to work for a doll. Not that I am planning on making these designs into dolls, but that was my mindset when designing them. The excessive patterns, while looking cool to me, might seem off-putting to see on shelves so I toned it down a bit. Also removed some layers of clothes cause LOL there is NO way Mattel would ever put that many layers on a playline doll. Also changed the shoes, kinda rushed the first ones I designed I didn't like them at all. I feel these one fit my direction for Frankie a lot more.
Cleo was very inspired by Mcbling era of 2000s fashion. I like G1 Cleo a lot, but I think she was of the main dolls who didn't really have a clear fashion style attached to her, just wearing Egyptian motifs. Which don't get me wrong, looked really good at times, but I feel a lot more could be done with her. I associate the Mcbling era with extreme consumerism and hyper-femininity, and like... if that's not Cleo. Gave Cleo hazy eyes, jaundice, and generally ashy skin so she looks especially dead looking.
I didn't really have that much beef with my Clawdeen design as much as I had beef with her drawing. Like it looked SO bad compared to the rest. I actually sat my as down and drew her braids this time. I also changed her bra-mesh shirt cause 1.) again, Mattel will never put that many layers on a playline doll 2.)IDK maybe I'm a prude but perhaps it was too much for a 15 year old?
Lagoona was really a case of having my cake (making her Australian) and eating it too (making her a WOC). My Lagoona Blue is a Yawk-Yawk, a sea creature with sea-weed hair from the Bininj indigenous people of Australia. I wanted to connect her to an actual sea creature because honestly G1 half-sea nymph thing was vague as hell, and G3 is giving us literally nothing.I'd like to imagine the seaweed being a plastic mold at the back of her neck, like Viperine snakes. A lot of redesigns of Lagoona tend to go for streetwear or sport-leisure, but I went for beach fashion cause I liked the vibes. To compensate for the utter mainstreamness of her fashion, I tried to give her weird makeup.
Drac changed significantly because she was the only one whose design I outright disliked, at least for a hypothetical core doll. I removed the pink streaks cause I thought while it might look cool as a drawing, it might look garish on a doll (that and It'd be difficult to root with a machine). Still think the design might be a hassle to translate to doll form (the skirt is WAY too much), so I might have to revise it, again. But I like this direction much more.

Head: Blonde, ear length, relatively curly (2C-3A) hair. One green(left) and one with cataracts(right), round and medium-set eyes. Snub-like nose with a visible upturn. She has thick lips with a thicker upper lip and a circular, slightly chubby face shape.
Body: Ectomorph but slightly thicker, Kite(?) shape. Large bust small hips, she's got tig ol' bitties tho 😫(I'm a sucker for women like that)
Marks (scars, birthmarks, tattoos, missing limbs, etc.): Her abdomen has a tattoo all around it with flower designs. She has no birthmarks. She's got some scarring from a poison dart on her back from trying to escape a captor(it looks like a dark fluid spreading on her back), one from her hairline to her eye from stray shrapnel, resulted in cataracts and ~25% blindness in that eye. And frostbite scars across hands and calves from an incident..(ooh~~). Her missing limbs include her left pinky and ring fingers, and her right leg (mid-thigh and lower gone) from torture while held captive. She also has a tongue piercing.
Other (height & weight stuff, skintone, nationality, etc.): Her skintone is tan, lots of freckles cover her skin. She lives in Australia but has an origin in Las Almas, her parents and other family live there, she moved to Australia. She is 5'11" (1.79m) and weighs 188lbs (85.2 kg). She tends to wear 2000s type clothes, sports bras, torn or worn cargo pants, colourful jackets, etc, and she loves her crown-like jewelry, makes her feel pretty.
Personality details: ↓
She's an open Bisexual to friends but not family, she's on the romantic or sexual spectrum as polyamorous(her and her husband are ready to add a plus-1). She is a Demi-girl and struggles with gender dysphoria very occasionally. She finds nature-like colors like forest green or mushroom brown quite pretty but will not admit that if there's a cool psychedelic neon yellow shirt, she will try it on. Outside people describe her as loud, rude and annoying. People she knows well however, describe her as still loud, but just reserved and distant, quoting something I imagine one of them saying: "she's rude when you first meet her but she warms up quickly as soon as you know her name". She is an ambivert, she uses social interaction to avoid her mental health but sometimes shuts down and can't even leave her room (Arach has a hitch that something's wrong but hasn't caught on fully yet). She's got no sensory issues that are prominent. And She does have mental disorders, including PTSD (ofc), Speration anxiety and rhotacism (she has difficulties in pronouncing the letter r).
And Military info!: ↓
She joined in 2009 at 19 years old, and was transferred to be in the SNS 3 years after joining. She has skills in basic, and advanced medical aid including field operations, Undercover missions, close range combat and some long range, and hostage rescue. But she has difficulties in keeping her emotions in check when in the field, along with using drugs (like morphine or adrenaline bc of being poisoned in the past).
Basic picture using gacha (I use it to visualize what they will look like with color)
Tumblr media
Pls don't mind the leg next to her arm 😭 I had to get rid of it somehow
And I will insert a photo I drew below (it will not have color)
I will add the picture as soon as I draw her.
I'm sorry if it's too long, read if you want but you really don't have to, she will be basically described in the fic.

Going to go to my first pole class here today in about an hour. Here are some things I am nervous about
Will I be able to find the studio?? What if I’m late
There’s only 7 students registered. What if there’s a nice close vibe with all the others and I’m on the outside
What if I WEAR the wrong THING. Looking at vids of classes here on Instagram it looks like there’s not so much of the pole wear thing as in Australia. Lots of people just in sports bras and little workout shorts. So I will wear that but it isn’t what I’m accustomed to doing pole in!! But I didn’t bring any pole wear to cat sit so that’s the only option now
What if the class is too easy and I’m bored
What if everyone points and laughs at me
And I’m gonna go anyway. I am booked in :)

Hey. I'm originally from Europe yes, but I live in New Zealand (yay neighbours!) I was an air hostess for a while and that helped with getting discounts, plus I'd save up any money I could and use it for travel instead of other things. I'm 5'2" and about 69 kg and I was feeling huge there 💀💀 but tbh you really have to ignore the stares and comments. I couldn't find any clothes that fit me either tbh, i needed to buy a sports bra and that didn't happen lol. And guys there are definitely an issue, I'd honestly recommend not even trying to date, it's not worth the risks. Regarding Chris, I think it was easier for him as a male, plus he speaks Korean fluently but tbh from what I've seen of him, he seems a lot more aussie than Korean in terms of personality and style. He's a Sydney boy through and through 😂
Hello @escapetheshark and its great to talk to you!!
I am watching The Try Guys where Keith eats everything from The Cheesecake Factory and I probably shouldn't have watched it while I'm on my period because now I feel like cheesecake and cheesecake is low-key one of my favourite desserts.
I'm a sucker for a classic old-school New York Cheesecake but anything chocolate I love too.
Howdy neighbour!! *waves enthusiastically*
Where in EUrope are you from and where in New Zealand do you live now and I'm so curious as to why you decided to move there.
What's it like being 26 hours ahead of everyone else?
For anyone that doesn't know, New Zealand is 2 hours ahead of Australia with timezones so New Zealand is always LEAPS ahead of the Northern Hemisphere with time.
So it's 10:08 pm here right now whereas in New Zealand, it would be about 12:08 am and the 1st of November.
I think that's really scary that you're 70 kgs and couldn't find anything to fit there and yeah-that's enough knowledge for me to feel more nervous about travelling there haha.
Bang Chan is Sydney-coded for sure and I did remember saying that even though he was born in South Korea and Korean is his first language, he's been in Sydney since he was around 5 because I remember he said he learnt English from attending Australian primary and high school.
It's why I laughed when ppl ask if he thinks in korean or english and he said it depends on what country he's in.
Honestly, if you're bilingual, I am jealous of you because being raised bilingual is truly a gift for your brain and how you connect with people.
I have been trying to learn different languages on and off for years since I was a teenager and nothing has stuck lol.
Also- fun fact...if you have Gemini or Virgo placements, you have a easier time in learning new languages because of the Mercury influence.
It was lovely to talk to you babe!

chapter twenty five
in which orion has leukemia, and calum doesn’t know.
calum hood x fem!oc
read other chapters
september 14, 2018 los angeles, california orion
Being on my break between chemo cycles means I have essentially nothing to do. My body is still recovering, but the complete lack of structure in my life just gives me the most contrasting current life from the one I’m supposed to have.
I’m supposed to be studying for the LSAT. I’m supposed to be taking 18 credit hours this semester. I’m supposed to be working at the library and having late night study sessions with Emelia and her roommates. I’m supposed to be touring law schools and meeting with my advisors to make sure I graduate on time.
Instead, I spend my days cooped up in the apartment, nursing myself to a somewhat livable level of health, even though I know I’m about to make things worse again in a few weeks when I start my next cycle of chemo.
Since I have so much time, I decide I want to try to put it to good use. I ordered some yarn and knitting needles and want to learn to knit something. I also ordered a bunch of things that Emelia and Macy love. Once I have some kind of product from knitting, I want to make them little thank you baskets.
I write out thank you cards to both of them when the supplies get delivered, and decide I want to include framed photos of us in the baskets, so I pull out my phone and start to scroll through my camera roll to find photos to print out.
I realize I haven’t really taken many photos since the boys left for tour. There are some, a handful from each day, from when they were in Australia and Joy and I were texting a lot back and forth. Otherwise, I have a rare photo of Duke, the photos we took with Macy at her apartment a few nights ago, a few selfies of me crying while missing Cal, and that’s about it.
The journey in my photos back to the boys being here honestly kind of hurts.
We were so happy, so blind, so unaware to what the future would hold. The boys, aside from Ash, are stil blind and happy. Blissful ignorance. I miss it. I miss them.
I stop at a photo that Luke had taken of me and Calum without either of us knowing. It was after their rehearsal when we went to the beach. We’re just looking at each other, both of us with a dopey grin on our faces. I’d know we were as in love as we are just by looking at the picture, even if the two people in the photo were strangers to me. The love is just palpable. I can feel it.
We’re walking up the beach, back towards the others. I’m wearing a black sports bra and matching bike shorts, wet hair messily hanging around my face and my eyes trained on Cal. He’s in a pair of plain black boxers that are wet, too, with his arm draped across my shoulders.
I start tearing up at the picture and decide to post it to my Instagram story. I type a small message to put along with it.
“missing u like always. can’t wait for another beach day like this. love u more than anything. <;3 @calumhood”
Almost like clockwork, about five or six minutes after it’s posted, Calum starts calling me.
I try to choke back my tears enough to speak coherently to him over the phone. “Hi,” I finally manage to say.
“Hi, love. What’s going on?”
I shake my head even though he can’t see me. “It’s nothing. Just really feeling lonely today and I miss you so much and—”
“O, breathe.” I realize then that I’ve been hyperventilating.
“In,” Cal says. I want to roll my eyes and tell him it’s stupid, but I know I need to listen to him, so I take a big inhale.
“Out.” I exhale, and Calum guides me through breathing slowly enough to calm down a bit.
“Sorry,” I say once I’ve regained composure.
“No, don’t be sorry,” Calum insists. “I’m sorry you’re feeling so down and lonely. If it’s any consolation, I miss you tons, too.”
“Don’t miss me, Cal. Enjoy your tour.”
“Okay, yeah, I’ll just totally turn off all my feelings affiliated with my girlfriend, AKA, the person I love most on the whole planet. Yeah, being apart from her for a few months doesn’t suck at all.”
I roll my eyes at him. “I don’t want you to miss me.”
You’ll have to live the rest of your life without me, I think.
“You might be the only girlfriend on the planet who doesn’t want her boyfriend to miss her,” Cal sounds sad, but he plays it off with a chuckle. “Should I be worried?”
Yes.
“No, I just know how much you love your job. I know how hard you’ve worked to get to where you are. I don’t want you to be thinking about me while you’re living your dreams.”
Calum sighs. “Orion, I’m trying here. You want me to talk to you several times throughout the day, but I’m not allowed to miss you. You’re sad I’m gone, and I can’t tell you I’m sad to be gone without it seeming like I hate my job.”
That shuts me up. I’m sure he’s very confused about what I want from him, and that’s fair, since I’m confused about everything in my life right now. I want Calum to be home and be taking care of me, but I also don’t want him to have to deal with the situation at hand, AKA his girlfriend dying of cancer. I don’t want him to have that looming on his mind while he plays shows to adoring fans around the world.
My silence invites him to speak again.
“I guess now’s as good of a time as any, but I was gonna ask you about those pictures on Twitter.”
Pictures on Twitter?
“What pictures on Twitter?” I ask. I put Calum on speaker phone and open up the app.
Just as he starts to speak, I see it. Blurry photos of me and Macy walking out of the hospital a few weeks ago. Both of us look like shit, dressed in comfy clothes, carrying full tote bags over our shoulders, our cheeks sunken in and the bags under our eyes casting dark shadows.
The headlines attached to it by the shitty gossip sources are insane.
5SOS Bassist’s Girlfriend Exiting Hospital: What Did He Do to Her? and Long Term Girlfriend of 5SOS’s Calum Hood Seen Exiting Hospital with Mystery Woman are the first two that I see, which, honestly, are enough to predict how everyone else on Twitter is reacting.
I see more random Tweets about it.
@5SOSUpdates: Orion leaving UCLA’s hospital with a friend recently. Anyone have any info?
@5SOSUpdates1: why tf is Orion at the hospital dressed like she’s homeless
@5SOSUpdates2: orion? At the hospital? Without Cal? Is this why she’s not on tour?
Replying to @5SOSUpdates2: lol I think she’s not on tour bc she’s a student and has class. chill. she’s living her life and not bothering anyone, why do people get so up in arms about her?
@5SOSUpdates3: Bro what does Cal see in her? She looks like shit. Also who tf is that with her lol i thought she only had like one friend.
@5SOSUpdates4: orion walking out of a hospital? I hope everything’s OK. she looks tired. :(
“Oh, those pictures,” I say it as if I’d seen them in advance and wasn’t looking at them for the first time.
“You went to the hospital with Macy? Was that just for her cancer?”
God, Calum. He opened another door that, in order for me to walk through, I have to lie. “Yeah, her chemo appointment lined up with my schedule and they take, like, a full day, so I went with her to keep her company.”
It’s not really a lie, but in my gut, I know it is. I feel like an awful person and an awful girlfriend.
Calum sighs again. “Okay, just thought it was weird that the paps were waiting at the hospital for you.”
“Maybe they were waiting for KayKay? Her grandma was at that hospital.” As I say it, I hope I didn’t just dig myself into another hole I have to lie my way out of. “Weird coincidence, I guess.”
“Shit, yeah, that would make sense,” Calum says. I silently let out a sigh of relief. “Remember? Kay was like ‘you look familiar’ to Macy when they met. I bet they’d seen each other at that hospital.”
I know I don’t normally forget things, but that connection hadn’t happened in my head. It makes so much sense now, too, and I wish I’d put the dots together before Calum had. “Sorry, just weird to see pap or fan photos of you when we aren’t with each other.”
“It’s LA, there are paps hiding everywhere. They see an opportunity and they take it.”
“You’re right.”
“I’m always right,” I say, trying to lighten things up with a joke.
Calum laughs. “You are right an obscene amount of times, yes.”
We both chuckle softly after that.
As we talk, the weight of the Twitter drama starts to lift, replaced by the comforting connection I share with Calum, and I’m glad he believes me. Despite the challenges, we find solace in each other, even if it's just through a phone call.
“Hey, since you’re feeling so down, would you want me to fly you out?”
I want to see Cal. I do. I want to be with him and feel his arms around me and have the most calming, comforting person I have ever met in my presence again. But I can’t see him. I can’t see him for a few days and expect that he won’t have questions about everything and I can’t tell him yet. I just can’t. The pressure is too high.
I think he hears my breath catch in my throat.
“Is this not a good weekend? I just thought…”
I want to punch myself in the nose. He sounds so defeated and sad. “No, I just… yeah. Not a great weekend. I’m sorry. I wish I could see you, but I think waiting ‘til San Diego just makes the most sense.”
Calum coughs, I think trying to cover up some other noise that he’d like to make that would indicate an upset. “Yeah, fair, we are driving down to Florida after the show tonight and that’s gonna take awhile, I’m not even sure what time we’d get to Orlando.”
I wish everything that’s going wrong here was just a logistics issue.
“Cal, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for being so emotional and I wish that things lined up better to see you sooner.”
Truthfully, my cancer makes me wish I had more time with everyone I love. I want to have people who love me around me all the time. Any time I spend alone feels like time wasted. I love so many people and want to spend as much time as I can with them, but I feel selfish asking for their time.
Spending time with Calum sounds like the most valuable use my time possible, but I know that as soon as I see him, I’ll have to fill him in on the most devastating news that someone you love could share with you. I have to break his heart and watch it while it falls to pieces.
“Orion, never apologize for having big feelings,” Calum says. “That’s one of the things I love most about you, especially since it’s something I struggle with. You show how you feel, good and bad, and you’re not afraid to express your feelings. It’s so amazing to watch you. I love seeing how much you love everyone. It’s a beautiful thing and a disheartening thing in a selfish way. I love knowing that you love the people I love, but I sometimes wish that love was reserved for me.”
With each word he says, the more inclined to start crying I feel. I love him so much, so I’m glad it’s reciprocated, but hearing him talk about me and how much he loves me has become painful when it used to make me feel like the happiest girl in the world.
Every kind thing he has to say about me could be negated the moment he learns that I’ve been lying.
I take a deep breath, trying to hold back the tears threatening to spill over. Calum's words, filled with love and vulnerability, are both a comfort and a torment. I wish I could freeze this moment, let the warmth of his affection surround me a little longer before the impending storm and let the good and bad both have their time in the center of my heart, but instead, I just feel the weight of the negatives.
“I’m sorry, Cal, I don’t know if I can keep talking about this,” I manage to say between my silent sobs. “I love you. Think I’m gonna take a long shower and have a glass of wine.”
“Orion…”
“I’m fine, okay?” I say with a shaky voice. “Just need to recenter myself.”
His raggedy breath shakes as he does a deep inhale. “If you say so, but remember, I am here if you need me, and I’ve got a good bit of free time over the next few days if you need to talk. Whatever time, whatever day, I’ll answer as soon as I can. You know that, right?”
His words feel like I knife in my heart. “Yes, I know. And thank you. I am so lucky to have you.”
He’s so unlucky to have me.
“I’m the luckiest man in the world to have your love in my life, O. I mean it. I’ll let you go, but please, please call me if you need me.”
“I will,” I lie. This call was a mistake. It’s just going to make him worry about me, which isn’t on my agenda at all. I don’t want him to worry. That’s such a huge part of why I hadn’t told him about my cancer in general.
“I love you and miss you more than words will say,” Cal says.
“I love you and miss you far more, I swear.”
“Guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. Go take your shower, and I’ll send you a bottle of wine and some ramen, OK? Don’t say no or fight back, I’m gonna do it regardless.”
I choke back a loud sob. “OK. Thank you. Bye, Cal.”
“Good bye, my love. Take care of yourself, please. I need you happy and healthy and by my side come our San Diego show.”
I have to hang up before I let myself collapse on the floor in a pile of shaking limbs and ragged sobs. His words hurt, even though I know he intended them with the sweetest, most tender love imaginable. It hurts to know I’m doing this to him and he doesn’t even know.
