I love that Jaune essentially painted Alyx as an unreliable narrator. Like, it makes sense in hindsight — of course a literal child who was already mentioned to be selfish and a liar did not learn virtue in a weird psychological nightmare world that has no room for the variety of human identity.
But team RWBY, and therefore the audience, kept using Alyx’s story as a guide. So for them, it’s awful to think that they followed the wrong person. If Alyx got out while her kindhearted brother died, what does that mean for their odds of escape?

Ruby:
•takes tips and advice from Yang on how to dress but mainly just throws clothes on and hopes for the best. she hasn’t quite got the hang of things looking… cohesive… yet.
•strong arms from swinging CR around.
Weiss:
•Was quite slender, but began gaining a bit of weight once she got back to Remnant. Starting to heal :,).
Blake:
•has chronic pain that stems from her tummy scar and radiates up her spine. Overworking, stress & the cold cause most flare-ups.
Yang:
•has a collection of goofy shirts (That ruby always steals from).
•has weapons hidden in her prosthetic arm in case he’s ever out of dust or in a bind.
•still experiences phantom pain in his stump and pain from some of the scars he’s acquired over the course of the war.

watched a video about rwby having a cast bloat, not too many characters but not expanding on the ones they already have and instead introducing new ones to take the place of those old characters. thoughts on this idea?
the core cast in volume one/two is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, pyrrha, ren, torchwick, and cinder, with ozpin, ironwood, and qrow being key players in the background.
the core cast in volume four is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, ren, sun, salem, and cinder, with oscar, ironwood, and qrow being key players in the background.
the core cast in volume eight is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, ren, oscar, qrow, penny, winter, ironwood, salem, and cinder.
the core cast in volume nine is ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, and the curious cat.
in volume ten, the core cast will most likely be ruby, weiss, blake, yang, jaune, nora, ren, oscar, qrow, winter, emerald, theodore, salem, and cinder, with the summer mystery simmering conspicuously in the background.
the narrative has so far spanned four countries, multiple continents, and a primordial otherworld, across nine volumes. the core cast has not significantly expanded in that time and has also not changed very much, barring a handful of major character deaths, new arc villains introduced after the villains of previous arcs were defeated, and promotion-to-main-status of a few characters who began as supporting players who were doing Main Plot things in the background of what amounts to the story’s prologue.
rwby does not suffer from cast bloat. rwby suffers from having a contingent of the fandom that cannot wrap its head around the concept of a “supporting cast” and is consequently so hung up on a bit character who appeared once in volume three that people were seriously speculating that Random Named Extra #27 was going to suddenly be super important in volume 9.
anyone who tells you that introducing new side character locals when the core cast follows the plot to a new location is “cast bloat” or “bad writing” is 1. off their rocker and 2. not acting in good faith.
for having the scope that it does—a globe-spanning cosmic cold war millions of years in the making—rwby has kept a remarkably tight cast. my for want of a nail au fic’s core cast is triple the size of rwby’s and i have hundreds of supporting players. like. lmao

as per roman holiday, the vale huntsman guild is a thing, so i've been playing around with an idea of changing the academies more into guildhouses for huntsmen and huntresses, where they still train future warriors, just more in an apprenticeship kind of way rather than a proper school way, since every student is unique with their own weapons and semblances—as such, you're going to need personal guidance to get the best out of them.
the headmasters would still be at the top as guildmasters, but just about everything else would get tweaked a bit; there would be no teams or partners—at least, not until the trainees go on missions, but even then these teams and partners will change over time, to ensure everyone is capable of adapting to changing condition; while most huntsmen and huntresses might work alone, still, there can be situations where you end up working together with strangers (see: the grimm campaign) so having at least decent people skills is important, and throwing trainees into teams randomly is a Great™ way to ensure they get used to it.
(teams can still be formed on their own, between those who become close enough friends to do so; then, it becomes not about chance, but choice.)
these guildhouses, like beacon, would also offer just about everything you could possibly need; living quarters, mess halls, dust shops, armorers, weaponsmiths, libraries, infirmaries... memorials for members lost to grimm. if you're a guild member, you wouldn't need to own property anywhere else or even travel somewhere to upkeep your weapon: the guild is your home.
which, admittedly, also creates an even greater barrier between huntsmen & huntresses and civilians, living in these old castles and what not, secluded away from the common folk.
