Dr. Mango: That must have been difficult, I’m sorry. Let’s talk about something lighter. I’d like to know a little bit more about the people who you left behind in Windenburg. Tell me about your friends, Primrose.
Primrose: Oh, yeah I can do that. My best friend is- was a girl named Fresca. We’d been friends since we were like five or six years old. I haven’t spoken to her since I got out of prison for.. well, you know. It’s been years at this point.
Dr. Mango: You’re doing very well, Primrose. Go on.

The Heart of a Hero is returning once more!
Tumblr media
Today marks the 5-year anniversary of the premiere of HoaH, and is fairly close to the 3.5 year anniversary of its last official upload. Well, the wait is over. It’s time for me to resurrect this series and eventually bring it to its end (not that it left off anywhere close to ending 😉).
Since it’s been a while, I’ve put together a recap of the story so far that I’ll post at some point here. It’s not complete, I had to cut out some of the newer chapters since it just became a play-by-play synopsis that doubled the total word count, but hey, having to reread 5-10 chapters is better than rereading 150.
The tentative return date will be this time next month as I work on creating a backlog of chapters. If I need to push it back, I’ll let you know. As for other questions I’m sure some of you have, check below the cut. For those who don’t care, see you in a month, hopefully.
So, some questions I’m sure some of you are asking:
1: where have you been? And why did you stop?
I’m not gonna go into details since I’m not that kinda person, but overall, just been living life, dude. I originally began my unexpected hiatus when college was kicking my ass and expected to get right back to things, but some stuff happened, and by the time I had dealt with it, it was Spring of 2020. You can guess what stopped me up then lol. But yeah, things just got away from me and eventually, I didn’t have the time or energy to dedicate to diving headfirst back into this outside of unconnected one-off stuff like those Bang fics. There’s other facets too, of course, the biggest one being a general disinterest in the source material. I stopped reading MHA around the villains arc (though I’ve kept up a bit in terms of big stuff like the traitor reveal), so I lacked that interest to pull me back into this world. Where I left off in the story, in the middle of a complicated arc full of OCs and big fights and stuff, was also a hurdle to getting back into things. But I’m here now, I’m working on my backlog, and I’m gonna commit. If you guys are excited about my return, spread the word and lemme hear it so I can keep this motivation 🤟
2: Is A New Era coming back too?
And now for the other shoe to drop. It is not. Im very sorry, especially to those whose OCs I included, but it’s just not feasible. Every time I considered it or tried it, the whole return to the main story was stopped up with it. Anyone who’s interested in continuing it themselves in some way shape or form, you have my permission in terms of the general idea, the OC kids I came up with, the places that canon characters are in it, etc. As for other people’s OCs, I’d check with their creators. One again, very sorry, but it’s just not doable.
3: What will this return look like? How often are chapters gonna drop?
Still working out the specifics, but my idea for now is to drop 2 chapters a week. If I need to go on hiatus, I’ll announce as much and plan the placement of it much better so that I don’t stop in the middle of an arc. That way, the hiatus will only be a month instead of years lol. The schedule may change over time, but I’ll keep everyone informed as I move ahead with it
4: a lot has happened in the manga and anime and movies since you stopped. Will these things be worked into the series?
Nope. I stopped reading and probably won’t start again until it’s over and done with. More than that, I’ve been sitting on these plans for a couple years now and don’t feel like changing them much. Besides, this story has had a long, rich history of shitting in the soup of the canon story, so I’ll just continue doing my own thing
5: are you still as epic and cool and funny as in the past?
Don’t ask questions you already know the answers to. I never was 😎

The Contingency
A/N: Hiya! okay so couple things, firstly I realize that my portrayal of Damian might be a lil different from some on here but honestly i feel like when Damian is in love this boy falls HARD so he’s gonna be hella romantic with his partner bc he feels safe and he not only love his partner but his love is reciprocated. The more above it all they are, the harder they fall. im not sure if that’s a saying but it applies. Second, this blurb/chapt is a sort of pre-logue to the part 4 of my Movie Night series and it is a lil different from the regular tone of how the story’s been going so pls let me know if y’all like it, if you agree with what Damian did or didn’t do. I’m honestly really unsure of it all now lmao if anything I might just delete this and pretend it never happened lol my anxiety is really acting up. PLLLEEAASSEE tell me your thoughts on how the story is progressing and if you’re enjoying it!!! It really means a lot to me plus it’s nice knowing ppl are enjoying the stuff i’m putting out <3 <3 <3 okay toodles for now and enjoy!!
P.S. Next chapt might be inspired by the new Dr. Strange Multiverse of Madness Movie but no spoilers!
Part 1 / Part 2 / Part 3 / Part 3.5
Tumblr media
Words: 2.5k
Damian sat in front of the computer in the Batcave, begrudgingly analyzing the files before him. This was the second time he was reviewing them. He had hoped that if he missed something it'd stand out to him the second time around. So far, no such luck.
It started out with a string of robberies, nothing Batman couldn’t handle. Then he found out the robberies were orchestrated by a man calling himself The Scientist in order to finance a new drug he was creating, Project Ambrosia. Allegedly, it was supposed to temporarily give people metahuman abilities. However, if you already possessed such abilities the drug was rumored to increase your powers to omnipotent levels.
This definitely wasn’t good news for Gotham. Fortunately, The Scientist was apprehended. Unfortunately, this wasn’t done so before the drug was finalized or before word of its completion made its way to Killer Croc and Bane.
It was two nights ago when Bruce had his encounter with the two as they tried to steal the drug for themselves. Fighting them both simultaneously was difficult even for someone like Batman but when Killer Croc managed to inject himself with the drug the situation quickly became much more catastrophic. Bruce quickly realized the rumor of the drug’s effect on metahumans was true. With the drug in Killer Croc’s veins he was able to leave Bane in critical condition and Batman was next to receive his wrath. He knew he had to act fast and so he destroyed the remainder of the drugs but not without sustaining perilous injuries from Killer Croc’s amplified rage.
Thankfully Dick and Damian intervened before more damage could be inflicted upon their father but Killer Croc still managed to retreat. So far there’s been no news on Killer Croc. However, they’ve all recently been informed by Jim Gordon that there was a second variation of the drug and it was stolen last night.
Damian rubbed at his temples in exhaustion and frustration as he failed to find any clues within the files. To add to his annoyance his one year anniversary with (Y/N) was approaching by the end of the week and considering how the case was progressing, or not progressing, he doubted he’d be back home in time.
He could hear Dick and Bruce talk about potential leads behind him as Dick cleaned a wound on Bruce’s back that he couldn’t reach. It was then Damian volunteered to do more recon at the lab where The Scientist was apprehended.
Frankly, he felt like he had exhausted all the information the files had to offer and just wanted to stretch his legs and clear his mind. It was as he was closing up all the files he had opened that he saw it.
It was a hidden section within the files that he’d never seen before. Had he not accidentally scrolled further down he doubted he would’ve found it either.
Why would his father try to hide this? His curiosity was piqued. In the hidden section there was only one file.
 The Scarlet Witch
Upon clicking it, half a dozen pictures of (Y/N) scrambled across the screen, one of them being a picture taken of her on her very first day on earth. There was also a strange, dark illustration within the files. Damian did not recognize the being but he was able to make out the figure of a female body along with her hair, some strange symbols, and what looked to be a crown. Admittedly, the image looked a little threatening. Next to the pictures appeared various  notes on (Y/N)’s abilities, voice memos, records, and even videos of her in battle. Damian recalled the fights, as he was there when they happened, but his father was not. Then he remembered the recording lenses he wears when donning his caped alter ego.
He was peeved at the thought of his father combing through his personal recordings without asking, it was an invasion of privacy afterall, but he was also confused.
Why would father steal my recordings? Why create this file? How long has he been keeping this from me?
Dozens of questions flooded his mind but as he read further into the file, he began getting angry…
“What… the hell…is this?”
It came out as a whisper but his anger was loud and clear.
Bruce and Dick both turned to look at him.
Dick was confused at the files on the screen. Meanwhile, Bruce remained indifferent despite the argument that was about to ensue.
“YOU HAVE A CONTINGENCY PLAN FOR MY PARTNER?!” Damian yelled as he confronted his father.
Dick backed up and looked at Bruce in disbelief, seemingly unaware of Bruce’s plans either.  “Really Bruce?”
“Explain yourself!” Damian snarled at his father.
“I don’t have to explain anything,” he rose from his seat to meet his challenge. “You both know more than anyone what my contingency plans are made for. They’re a precaution.”
“A preca- Bruce, she’s a kid,” Dick interjected.
“A kid who was able to subdue Superman while he was under demonic possession,” Bruce corrected. He walked to the computer, “And she’s not just a kid.”
Bruce clicked on one of the images from the file and the image of the strange illustration was enlarged on the screen.
“‘The Scarlet Witch is not born; she is forged. She has no coven, no need for incantation. A being capable of spontaneous creation. Her destiny is to rule the cosmos or annihilate it.’”
The way he spoke made it clear he was reciting the information which added to Damian and Dick’s confusion.
“Where’d you get this info from?” inquired Dick.
“More importantly, what does this have to do with (Y/N)?” Asked Damian. “She doesn’t use magic, she’s not a witch.”
“Zatanna learned it from Constantine and she informed me of this when she became aware of (Y/N) and her abilities.” Bruce looked to Damian, “From what we know of her abilities and feats, Zatanna and I believe she may be The Scarlet Witch. Although she hasn’t exemplified everything yet this could be due to lack of opportunity or knowledge or both. I’m not taking any chances if she is who we suspect she is. I imagine she told you about how she acquired her powers?”
Damian, who was currently glaring at his father with his arms crossed, nodded. “They tortured her,” he looked away and his eyes softened as he reminisced on what (Y/N) had told him, the trauma she experinced. “They conducted several experiments on her. One of them involved an ancient stone.”
“An infinity stone?” Bruce asked.
“She didn’t specify.”
“You didn’t ask her more about it?” He pressed.
“Did I ask her to recount in explicit detail what were objectively the worst moments of her life? No, I did not,” Damian’s glare returned.
“Okay, okay,” Dick motioned to them both to cool down. “Tales of omnipotent witches make great stories to tell around the campfire, B, but you’re telling me you created a whole contingency plan based on hearsay? That doesn’t sound like you.”
“Because it’s not hearsay. According to Constantine, there is a whole chapter dedicated to The Scarlet Witch in the Darkhold.” On hearing this, Damian's shoulder’s tensed. “It is also referred to as the book of the-”
“Damed,” cut in Damian and everyone’s attention set on him.
“You’re familiar with the darkhold?” asked Bruce.
“Unfortunately,” Damian rolled his eyes. “Grandfather went through great lengths in attempt to attain the legendary book.”
“Hold on, why would Ra’s want some scary sounding book in the first place?” Dick scrunched his eyebrows in confusion.
“Legend surrounding the book claimed that it gave whoever possessed the book great power or it would amplify your own if you already possess it,” Damian shrugged. “It was also said to contain knowledge of dark magic but none of it came without a price. The book was said to corrupt anything and everything it touches. At least according to legend. But that’s all this is, legend. The book doesn’t exist.”
“But it does,” said Bruce. “And according to the darkhold, The Scarlet Witch is supposed to be a myth.”
“Then why do you have this file? Why are we even having this conversation? What did (Y/N) do to deserve this kind of treatment? She’s only ever shown you kindness!”
“This isn’t personal, Damian,” Bruce slowly approached his son but it only caused him to back away instead. “From what we’ve seen, (Y/N) fits the profile. The possibility is too strong for me to ignore. It’d be reckless and foolish of me to not prepare for the worst, especially considering your relationship with her.”
Although Bruce said his words with genuine sincerity, it didn’t help Damian feel any better.
“She’d never hurt me,” Damian defended. “She’d never hurt anyone.”
“What about Dr. Light?”
“That was one time!” Damian pointed at Bruce.
“She didn’t just remove the air from his lungs, she temporarily rewrote their function. He described it as feeling as if his body was rejecting the air while simultaneously needing it. In his words, it was both excruciating and terrifying.”
“He still breathes now, doesn't he?”
“Damian-”
“Woah, wait, Bruce,” Dick called to him from the computer. Apparently while Bruce and Damian were talking, he was sifting through the files. “This contingency plan is reading more like an outline, it’s not complete.”
“Until I know the full extent of her power or find out of any limitations the plan will remain unfinished. She’s half Tamaranean but due to her powers what would normally weaken a Tamaranean does not affect her. As of now, our best bet would be Zatanna’s magic to counteract her own. If she is who I think she is, anything I throw at her would be useless.”
“Wow,” Dick sighed as he leaned back in the chair and took in this information. It wasn’t often Bruce felt like he didn’t have many options to consider. Needless to say, he was feeling the gravity of the situation. “Wait, did you just say she rewrote Dr.Light’s lung functions?”
“Who cares? He was a villain anyways. (Y/N) would never do anything to hurt us,” argued Damian.
“Maybe not intentionally. But who is to know what could happen once she unlocks her full potential. At the moment, her ignorance benefits both her and the fate of this universe,” Bruce reasoned.
“What if it’s the opposite? What if by telling her what we know it helps steer her in the right direction?”
“Or inadvertently lead her in the wrong direction. Right now the less she knows, the better,” Bruce closed the files on the computer as if to conclude the discussion.
“Says you, father. I do not agree,” Damian turned to leave the Batcave, ignoring the calls and demands of his father.
____________________________________
Damian made his way to one of the balconies of the manor and pulled out his phone and called (Y/N). After about three rings he received a rather groggy hello and he mentally scolded himself as he forgot all about the time difference.
“Sorry beloved, did I wake you?”
“You did but it’s you so it is a welcomed intrusion,” she giggled. “How are you, is everything okay?”
“I’m fine,” he paused and (Y/N) waited for him to continue but he didn’t.
“Are you sure? You seem a little,” she pondered for the word, “distressed.”
Normally he loved how she knew him so well but the moment he felt as if it was backfiring on him.
“I am- I mean, I am fine it’s just… we reached a stalemate in the case.”
“It seems as if you’ve been working on it for very long hours, perhaps a break would help to refresh your mind?”
“I thought the same as well.”
“And did it?”
“Did it what?”
“Refresh your mind,” she chuckled. “Dami, are you sure you’re okay?”
“Yeah- yes I just,” he sighed, he couldn’t do it. “I miss you, beloved. I’m sorry this case is taking longer than expected. This case ruined the plans I made for us for the week but I will still try to make it this weekend for our anniversary.”
“I miss you too, Dami. I really wish you were here but your father needs you and I completely understand the situation. Just come back to me in one piece okay, promise?”
If only Damian could see the dopey, heartfelt smile he adorned on his face.
“I promise, beloved. Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” she lethargically sighed. “I’ve just been a little tired. I was having some stupid nightmares that were not really letting me sleep these past two days.”
“Apologies beloved, now I feel really bad for waking you up,” he groaned.
“No, no, it is fine. Really, they seemed to have stopped tonight, thankfully.”
“Do you wanna talk about them?”
(Y/N) hummed in thought and he could hear shuffling on her end.
“You don’t have to but you know you can talk to me. I want to know what ails you, perhaps I can help.”
“I just,” more shuffling, “I just didn’t want to alarm you or the Titans.”
“Why would it alarm us?”
“Well, you know that sometimes my dreams prove to be quite prophetic but only sometimes, it is not always the case.”
Damian hummed in agreement.
“Well, in this nightmare for some reason the Titans were battling me. The reason was never revealed and I always woke up before something catastrophic happened. But… the way they looked at me… the way you looked at me… like I was some monster… I would never purposely  do anything to hurt you or the Titans. I do not know why my subconscious created such a horrible story…”
“It was just a dream, beloved. A very bad dream. We would never turn on you and we know you wouldn’t turn on us.”
“I know… like I said, it was just a stupid dream. But thank you for listening and the reassurance.”
“I’ll reassure you as many times as you need but for now I’ll let you sleep.”
“Alright, but you better  go to bed soon, okay? You are three hours ahead of me so I know it is very late there.”
“I will,” he chuckled. “I love you.”
“I love you too, Dami. Goodnight.”
“Goodnight.”
With their goodbyes said, Damian finally hung up the phone and if he were to be honest, with the information he was just given, he was a little alarmed. There wasn’t a doubt in his mind that (Y/N) would never hurt him, the team, or anyone for that matter. Still, he understood his father’s plan and now agreed that perhaps the less she knew the better. Although he refrained from telling her of what he discovered, he never lied throughout their conversation. He deeply missed her and he was sure of two things. One, that whether or not the case was solved he was going back to the Titans Tower, for at least the day of their anniversary. And two, that he was going to do everything in his power to prohibit her from becoming The Scarlet Witch.
A/N: I kinda tinkered with the powers of the darkhold here to fit the story a lil better but nothing too dramartic. I’ve had this idea of Batman having a contingency plan for you since you’re so powerful for such a long time and i thought it was kinda funny lol hope you enjoyed. Feedback is appreciated! Have a lovely day <3

My review of DnD: Honor Among Thieves:
Tl;dr: overall I liked it -I was side eying a lot of the dragon arc. Also, surprisingly- needed more magic. Druids are full casters, Bards are full casters, Paladins are half casters! Did Holga even rage?
Also I fully thought Simon was secretly an artificer actually, for 1/3 of the movie.
For a movie it was good fun. I enjoyed that it didn’t take itself too seriously, and the characters felt like dnd characters yet in a good way? Which is really hard to do without it becoming too campy and while I like camp not everyone does. The story was simple but fitting, because it felt like a dnd campaign. In terms of character and story it was pretty spot on. Except one thing, more bisexuality needed.
Now for the cons (aka DnD nerd nitpicks DnD movie the for #1,000,057th time)-
As a lifeline fan on DnD, both the game and the settings most especially Faerûn -I was introduced to to Faerûn when I was like 8 folkx. My dad played 3.5 and maybe even earlier additions. I have many 3.5 books and have played a little of that edition, 4th, and quite a bit of 5th. I watch so much rpg and dnd specifically actual plays and I criticize them and love them. And criticize the critics. So. Where were the classes? Where was the lore? What is best boy Xenk a Paladin of?? It doesn’t have to be a god, but tbh, imo not having gods is a fucking waste! It’s Faerûn! Faerûn is drowning in gods, sometimes literally! Throw a rock and you’ll unearth some gods bs. Was Mystra, goddess of magic and more importantly bffs/gf/child/it’s very complicated of Elminster “what if I became a woman? And enjoyed it! Again!” Aumar even mentioned? (Yea mfers I read DnD books. And wikis!) (also reminder he is Simons great-great-great(?) grandfather, so the opportunity was there)
Also, I know that Tieflings can be typical skin tones or whatever. However two things 1) why did she have elf ears? Two… damn those parents where whimps she coulda passed for human, or part elven very, very easily. Also I’m sry but total waste to make her look like tiefling Keyleth CR. Give her some weird color, even if it’s just like blue freckles or something. Next-ly , when the soldiers are chasing her I guess I could accept she rolled a nat one. Multiple times. But how did they know she was a she? And why call her a “wild shape” and not a “Druid”. Bc calling her a wild shape, like shouting “Wild shape!” While chasing her? it… it Was. A bit. Weird. Moving oon…
More egregious was the strange lack of magic, when there’s was also so much magic. Half of Simons spells are from strange little objects, which is why I thought he might be a secret artificier or maybe multiclassed. For a minute I thought he was an eldritch trickster! However that’s relatively minor -actually I was a little disappointed he wasn’t an artificer, because they are cool and I love strange little magic devices and trinkets. Which, in comparison to no one else using magic except to become trademark animals and many non trademarked ones. Why would they not want people to know that druids, and bards, AND paladins, HAVE MAGIC?!? Don’t tell me they are too low level. I saw Xenk fight! Paladin Yendar is at least level 7. At least! (Maybe 6… but 7 is already a stretch tbh.) The rest? Bards have magic at level one, as do druids. And Druid Doric the Wild Shape was at least level 5 herself thank you. So no! Rejected, they where mid ranged level at least! Where’s the magic! Hmm!?
Imho they could have solved this several ways. (You can choose whichever combination you prefer). 1. Instead of uh, Bard (looks up his name) Edgin (lol) Darvis make him a mastermind Rogue or something. 2. If not, have him do spells but when Simon points it out everyone is like “no but that’s different because it’s music magic. Duh”. 3. Same thing for Doric, “no she can’t do it because she only has nature magic. It’s different”. 4. Hilariously, make Doric also terrible at casting spells. 5. I wanted Holga to rage more. I’m sry. Fighters can do everything she did and idc. Make it look magic or something. 6. Same with Xenk. Where was the brandishing his holy symbol and doing some magic? Bc I was like “wait is he just a high level fighter? Or rogue/fighter” (Which would have been funny to me) (ok I checked. He casts a spell on his sword once. Which I missed completely. Makes no difference to my point. Eldritch knight or trickster could do similar)
So that’s my review. If you made it this far good job. Tbh, I think I just know too much about Dnd, because otherwise I quite enjoyed this movie. I kinda hope they make more of them, so the studios better fucking learn to respect their workers and negotiate.
PS: Maybe we could do without the fat jokes next time. Or ever again.
PPS: srsly they better learn to negotiate. Because we have we have other options and I can watch countless actual plays for thousands of hours. And waiting the strike out so long people are starting to lose housing and probably worse? Well, there’s plenty of creator owned projects to provide more support to instead. (TBC- I mean if you can do that anyway but, like stop giving the assholes the support and distribute those funds to the creators)

ACOTAR was the best of the entire series, ACOSF just murdered everyone not named Nesta Archeron (even her a bit too), and honestly at the rate the fandom's going at I might just pretend nothing happened after ACOTAR. I, like most of the fandom, became a Feysand shipper when ACOMAF came out, and after ACOSF I still ship them but Sarah had better include a scene where Rhys apologizes for *checks notes* so many things, actually, or that ever-expanding part of me that hates Feysand is going to win and I'm going to become a Feyre x no one because all the men have had a ton of flaws shipper.
Okay rant over lol this is just one of the few blogs that dares to think that *gasp* Feysand has its flaws, despite being arguably her most popular ship (besides Rowaelin).
*waves awkwardly from the isle of Feylin*
Listen I abandoned canon when ACOSF came out because there's no amount of backpedaling that could make up for Feyre almost DYING IN CHILDBIRTH no matter what Sarah tries to spin (to me, at least) so I definitely get how you're feeling. The hypocrisy in this fandom is wilddddddddddd
And frankly, at this point, I agree in that I don't see much of a point in continuing beyond book one. Most of the fandom skips book 1, loves books 2 and 3, and dislikes (not all, but many of them dislike) books 3.5 and 4 and I've seen a lot of people say not to read them. I feel like the fandom narrative being "only read and accept the middle two books as gospel and ignore the first one and final two" is going to make it incredibly difficult for new readers, who may just skip entirely or only read the first book honestly.
If you ever jump ship you definitely won't be alone :) Join us in book one land! We have sassy Lucien, actually fascinating worldbuilding, and Feylin!

So, I was trying to figure out a bit of the timeline for a fic and found this interesting (to me) something here: (this is a fun analysis and probs won't go in the direction you expect lol)
The events between Retrace 42 to Retrace 45 happen over one and a half day at the most. Something in this order:
Break wakes up after being bedridden for three days, finds that he is almost fully blind,
Oz and gang have a discussion in his bedroom,
They prepare to find the second seal at Rytas' place, Sharon insists on joining them
They arrive at the village as per Duke Barma's orders and meet up with Gruner
Next day: The fight between Marie and Oz goes down, Rytas acknowledges his right to be shown the seal
Finally the Head Hunter attacks, kills every one present and destroys the Seal.
Next, in Retrace 45, we find Vincent and Ada on a date and they discuss the Head Hunter as well. (which is being discussed at around the same time by Leo and Elliot)
Tumblr media
He asks her to tell everything about herself, her father, her uncle Oscar whom he is targeting for the Key to the Door of the Abyss. And this, if you remember, he mentions as part of his plan to obtain the Key in his discussions with the Baskervilles in Retrace 46.
Which means... the Vince-Baskervilles discussion happened before his date with Ada, or let's say, sometime after the Head Hunter attacked Rytas Mansion. Or, maybe, even on the same day cuz, of course, news spreads fast, you know.
Same day, the day the Seal got destroyed, which if you keep count of, is 3/3.5/4 days after the Sablier Arc, the day after Break woke up.
Tumblr media
So here, the second seal has already been destroyed and Lottie is questioning why the chain Head Hunter, having some involvement with the Nightrays, is destroying the seals (supposed to be the Baskervilles' job)
Well, we know the answer to this, but that's not the interesting thing I wanted to point out.
It's that Lottie was mad af right from the start of this conversation. She is so grumpy here and even slams the seat to silence the group, which.... is so unlike her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because, she is usually the noisy and talkative one in this group. Back in the Lutwidge arc, Fang was struggling to keep her under control when they kidnapped Oz. (It's only after Fang died, she became full-on depressed.) But here, Fang, who is the voice of reason in this little ragtag group, is carefree and chatty and playing with Lily. Even the silent Doug is playing chess with Vincent.
It's strange that only Lottie should be so serious and frustrated here.
On reading this for the first time, I assumed this conversation is happening a week after the Seal was broken. annnnd, so, it didn't make any sense to me why she should be mad for so long either. She generally gives me the impression of being cool headed over most things.
But this is just utmost four days after Sablier.
So, my (not so) secret headcanon is that she is still mad, not at the Baskervilles for not getting to the second seal fast enough, not at the Head Hunter for breaking the seal either..... but at Break (lmao) cuz she is still not over what happened to her. As in, she is still confused frustrated because she couldn't get why and what the guy was aiming at?
As I said, this is interesting to me cuz I wanted to see her reaction after Sablier. I thought we never see it cuz the next time we see Break and Lottie interact again is at Isla Yura's place. They never ever openly react to anything nor openly give their inner thoughts that I have to pick up from small things like this.
Anyway, to continue, I imagined the Vince-Ada date in Retrace 46 and the dungeon scene happens as a continuity to the one in Retrace 45. that is, Vince and Ada roamed around the park for some time, visited the opera following which she takes him home.
But, their clothes are different in both? I suppose these are different dates they went on.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So no clear timeline of when the Opera Hall date happens. But the one in the park is definitely after he discusses his problem and solution of targeting Uncle Oscar through Ada with the Baskervilles.
These scenes happen a week later, though.

I just had a weird-ass moment of sorting out the Don’t Starve timeline
So I have decided to organize it to understand it better.
This devolved into my own head canons so enjoy i guess??
I will warn you: This is a VERY long post. And it is NOT CONSISTENT. THIS BECAME A GIANT HEAD CANON POST. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. THIS WENT DOWNHILL QUICKLY.
NOTE: Throughout the entire timeline, I imagine Wagstaff randomly logging in and out of the Constant while Maxwell can’t stop him from doing whatever science fuckery he wants
Anyways.
0. All non-human characters who were never human before (Wormwood, Wortox, Wilbur, Wilba, and Wurt) currently live in the Constant.
1. Maxwell and Charlie arrive first and become the “King” and Night Monster of the Constant.
1.5. Maxwell sends random people to the Constant. He does this throughout the timeline until his reign ends.
2. A young Wagstaff discovers the Constant by accidentally opening a portal to it, or finding some way to enter it. He does not actually enter the Constant physically, instead he uses a hologram to do research on it. Maxwell sees this guy logging on and off the Constant and ignores him for now.
3. WX 78′s angry breakdown forces Wagstaff to shove them into the Constant. They are the first survivor to physically enter it.
3.5. Wagstaff continues researching the Constant. Maxwell is beginning to get annoyed with the fact that he cannot control him. This guy is like a fucking insect.
4. An older Wagstaff delivers a specimen to Webber’s father (the specimen being a spider). Webber becomes, well, Webber, and eventually Maxwell sends him to the Constant. He is the first person to arrive through Maxwell. Currently, he and WX are the only (known) survivors currently alive in the Constant, not including Wagstaff who is zipping around doing whatever the fuck he wants.
5. Webber dies. WX does not meet him before this happens.
6. Wes arrives in the Constant by accident. He gets caught by Maxwell and imprisoned.
7. Woodlegs is sent to the Constant.
8. Wilson is tricked by Maxwell and sent to the Constant.
9. Wilson does the standard adventuring stuff.
10. The timeline of who arrives in the Constant continues in the order you unlock characters in. This order takes place over a long amount of time. That order being:
- Willow
- Wolfgang
- Wendy
- Wickerbottom
- Woodie
- Wigfrid
None of them ever meet each other until Charlie takes the throne.
11. Woodlegs gets trapped inside his cage. Maxwell doesn’t state specifically that he did it, but knowing what he’s like, he probably did. I would assume that Woodleg was having too much fun hunting for treasure and having to deal with both him and that goddamn Wagstaff popping in and out of the Constant on a daily basis was too much for him.
12. The Shipwrecked and Hamlet characters do arrive at the Constant, but the times in which they do are unknown (aka I am too lazy to check how much EXP is required for them).
- Walani
- Warly
- Wheeler
13. Wilson buries Webber’s skull, reviving him.
14. Wes is freed from the invisible damnation box.
15.Wilson finds Maxwell and takes his place on the Nightmare Throne.
15.5. I am not sure when Shipwrecked and Hamlet take place on the timeline, but they do take place before Together.
16. Charlie discovers Wilson on the Throne after quite a while (not as long as Maxwell’s reign, thank god). Wilson is freed from it quite forcefully, and Charlie becomes the new queen.
16.5. WAGSTAFF IS YOUR PROBLEM NOW BITCH HAVE FUN TRYING TO CONTROL HIM
17. Wilson meets Maxwell and the two agree to form a truce.
WARNING: YOU ARE ENTERING SEVERE HEADCANON TERRITORY. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
18. The other characters catch glimpses of each other but never actually meet.
For example:
WX 78 has found everyone at least once but does not care about their well-being so they just let them go off and do whatever. No one has seen them, however. Currently their only goal is to find Wagstaff and beat the shit out of him (good luck with that lol).
Wagstaff has found everyone as well, but unlike WX, Wagstaff is very interested in finding out about the survivors and is trying to uncover everything he can.
Maxwell already knows everyone, but he has not found any of them and does not want to. He is actively trying to run away.
19. Charlie stops putting people in the Constant. For now.
20. Charlie gets bored of watching all these random ass people fuck around and wants to see some REAL drama. She decides to put some of the survivors into small groups to see what would happen via teleportation. The results? Well...
Maxwell and Wagstaff
Purely made to spite her ex. Maxwell not only dislikes Wagstaff (which should be pretty obvious) he is also AFRAID of him and what he could do to the Constant. They stay together for about 1 minute before Wagstaff decides to just log off again. From then on Maxwell makes sure to track down Wagstaff’s plans, to hopefully find his motives for all this.
Wendy, Wolfgang, and Wickerbottom
This trio would have been dissolved VERY quickly if not for Wickerbottom’s quick thinking. Wolfgang is deathly afraid of Wendy and even though Wickerbottom keeps him in the group, he can’t help but shudder when he has to talk to her. This group is surprisingly good at surviving - Wolfgang protects them, Wendy has pretty good survival knowledge, and Wickerbottom keeps the group from acting stupid.
Wigfrid and Webber
It goes just as well as you would expect it to. Wigfrid moves to kill Webber immediately after seeing him, thinking that he’s some sort of monstrous “beast” that needs to be slain.
Wes and Woodie
The pair ever.
21. Maxwell meets Wilson and the two decide to form a truce. They both hate eachother immensely.
Charlie sees this and decides to bring Wendy, Wolfgang and Wickerbottom over. The more socialization Maxwell has to do with his former pawns the better. Wilson is so grateful to learn that he is not alone after all (Maxwell does not count).
22. Wortox is corrupted.
WX 78 is still being a little loner emo bitch.
22.5. I am not sure when Woby arrives in the Constant, but I will say that she is accidentally sent there around this part of the timeline.
23. Willow starts a MASSIVE forest fire, bringing all of the vanilla game characters (besides WX 78 and Wagstaff) to her location. They decide that if they can’t survive together, they’ll die alone, and they all team up to tackle the dangerous world they live in. Meanwhile Maxwell has some explaining to do to the others.
23.5. Wormwood, Wurt, and Wortox form a little cryptid friend group but that’s unrelated. Yeah, they saw the giant fire. Yeah, Wormwood cried for a solid half hour. No, they didn’t go to check it out.
24. The Cryptids find WX 78 and try to help them, but they aggressively refuse, as a soulless automaton does.
25. WX finds the Survivors and declares themself their “ruler” and everyone else their “minions”. No one takes them seriously in the slightest, but at least they have a new member now.
26. An injured Wigfrid stumbles upon the Survivors group and is treated. She decides to join the group if they help her look for a mysterious “beast” that she has been hunting down.
27. That “beast” is, you guessed it, Webber. When the Survivors realize that he does not mean any harm, he is welcomed into the group.
28. Warly is found by the Survivors, who tracked him down because he happened to be cooking nearby. He happily joins the team.
29. Winona is sent to the Constant after a disastrous accident involving Wagstaff’s portal.
29.5. This time, Wagstaff is ACTUALLY sent to the Constant. No more running away old man.
29.75. No fucking way
29. The Cryptids get separated by accident. They follow their separate paths. For now anyways.
Wurt finds her old swamp village and is reunited with her Merm companions.
Wormwood spends his days chilling with his plant friends, but longs to see his other friends again.
Wortox is kind of alone now, but he’s taken an interest to the humans that have found their way into the Constant.
30. Walter gets sent to the Constant and meets Woby.
31. The Survivors stumble upon Wurt in the swamps, and out of curiosity she follows them back to their camp. She ends up joining the group after they let her stay with them.
32. Wanda’s time travel shenanigans send her to the Constant.
33. Wormwood’s search for his friends brings him to the Survivors. WX recognizes him and tries to get the others to drive him out, but to no avail. Wurt sees him and welcomes him with open arms.
34. Winona is found by the Survivors, who traced the noises of her machinery and were very impressed with what they saw. She agrees to team up with them, and they agree to help her find her boss (Wagstaff) and sister (Charlie), who are both trapped in the Constant.
35. Walter is discovered by the younger members of the Survivors (and this kid is having a great time camping out in eeby deeby). Walter finds the group and decides to join after realizing just how bad everyone is at managing a proper fire.
36. Wortox finally decides to show himself to the Survivors, reuniting the Cryptids and adding a new member to the team. However, no one fully trusts him. There is quite a lot that he’s hiding.
37. A usage of the Backtrack Watch accidentally teleports Wanda to the Survivor’s camp. She joins them and uses her knowledge on time travel to help them figure out their next moves.
38. Wagstaff finds the Lunar Islands and begins sketching out some big plans. Plans involving that sweet sweet moon juice

just finished she who became the sun! (historical... light fantasy? reimagination of the rise to power of the first ming emperor, but what if he was actually a girl in disguise. also there are ghosts so i cant really call it historical fiction i think?)
it hit a lot of the beats i enjoy in fantasy books - girl disguised as a boy (Shocker there lol) who has to work twice as hard at school/training/whatever, military strategy, alternating povs with an antagonist - and i liked reading it.
i do think the tone jumped around a little bit (eg i dont think the fairly explicit sex scene in the middle meshed well with the general YA vibe of the rest of it lol) & i wasnt super content w how the main antagonists story ended.
3.5/5? i liked it, i enjoyed reading it, but i dont think ill reread it. also i dont think one set of stars is a useful metric for me i think i need like. a writing/worldbuilding one, an enjoyment one, and an concept one? and maybe one for "is it actually good" bc there are many books id rate 5/5 for enjoyment that simply arent good lol. maybe ill do a monster factory style rating for each book thats its own metric.
in which case: 4/5 historical c-dramas about the rise to power of a pretty ruthless emperor- but gay!
and for indiv aspects:
concept: overarching ideas and/or tropes
context: looking at the concept from a meta & critical perspective
execution: writing, pacing, worldbuilding technicalities, etc.
enjoyment: what it says on the tin
concept: 5/5 - as i said above. genderfuckery and military campaigns and politics.
context: 2.5/5- not a huge fan of making historical figures gay instead of either making up ur own guys Or writing abt real historical gay people
execution: 3/5- didnt notice the writing either way, pacing was good but tone drifted a bit.
enjoyment: 4/5- good, but didnt grab me and i dont think ill reread it.
that seems like usable metrics. ill do that going forward.

Radio Silence by Alice Oseman - 4/5 i finished this one in just a few days i was super into the entire story! at times things get a little confusing and hard to follow and the pacing is awkward sometimes but other than that i loved it! amazing read and would definitely read it again.

MORE READING UPDATES OMLLLLLLL i forgor about this blog again. it will happen again tbh but i still have to go through all of the books i finished in late 2023 up to now... i'm gonna try and get as many as i can done but probably wont get all of them lol. probably very long post/rant + spoilers for various books under the cut
keep in mind i have shit memory and all of these books were finished a while ago so be warned for bad analysis and summaries
-How High We Go in the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu: this book was a collection of short stories that are interconnected through characters and a central storyline - a plague. i thought the concept was super interesting and i had heard really good things about it from people i share a reading taste with so i went into this expecting to be blown away and i just. wasnt. i LOVED some of the short stories and there were a few that made me cry, mainly snortorious and the robot dog story where the mom died, but other than that it was kinda a let down. the ending fucking sucked ngl. like i thought we were leading up to some profound moment, especially calling back to the chapter where people are relieving their memories in the dark, because i thought that was really compelling and interesting, but it was just fucking aliens. like it reallly feels like a cop out to me. like a whole "and it was all just a dream" type ending. im not gonna rate it actually yes i am i'd give it like 2.5-3 stars. only because some of the chapters were super hard hitting but other than that. meh.
-The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater: WHOOOOO BOY. i ate this shit up. god if i had read this in middle school or high school i am 100% certain it would have become my entire personality. like i fucking get it. i totally fucking get it. i'm treating the whole series as one book rn bc they all kinda blend together in my mind and its been a while but just. the fucking vibes. good lord the vibes were so good. can't pick out any 100% certain things i particularly noticed but i will reblog every webweave about this series there is trust. rating the entire series as 5 stars mostly because i listened to the audiobook and they did SUCH A GOOD JOB ON TH E AUDIOBOOK OML like. at first i was kinda thrown off bc i wasn't expecting it to be so. southern? but once i finished the first one i knew there was no way i could just go back to reading it with a physical book like audiobook all the way the narrator was so awesome and i love the southernness of it.
-What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher: my first t. kingfisher book! i loved the vibes, the world, the whole new set of pronouns, that shit was so fun, overall a nice short and sweet creepy ass fucking book. like im a huge wimp so i was deffo nervous and freaked out at some points, especially with the rabbits lol idk why but those were unnerving. the author did a really good job of conveying the mc's anxiety and fear while also adding in some humor and soldier rationality and stoicism. lol. cute i liked it 3.5/4 stars.
-Fault Lines by Emily Itami: tbh mostly picked this one up for the cover and it was really just a standard cheating story where the mc gets back together with her original husband because of their kids. nothing i remember to be groundbreaking at all really. 2.5 stars
-Olga Dies Dreaming by Xochitl Gonzalez: I really wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. the pov changes i think were very well done and intentional and weren't confusing at all! the narrators for the audiobook were wonderful and really brought life to the story, a lovely book.
-She Who Became the Sun by Shelley Parker-Chan: honestly, looking back on it, i was never really captivated by this story. it took me a long time to get into it, and i really never connected with any of the characters. a lot of it was more confusing than not, and i'm honestly not sure if i feel the need to continue the series. may be a case of me not being in the right mood for it, but i don't see myself trying it again. kinda sad cuz i was excited to love this but oh well. win some lose some.
-Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr: hands down my fav book of 2023 and one of my fav books of all time. like i have a feeling this review is going to be either very long or very short because there is no way i will be able to write out all the ways i love this book. the owl motif. the environmental extremism from seymore that i can 100% relate to. the way that he fell down that path in a way that felt realistic to me, based on his circumstances, and it isn't implied in my opinion, that all autistic people are like this, that all autistic people can take things to the extreme like seymore did. the audiobook was wonderful. the interconnected stories over time i think is one of my new favorite tropes/plots/metas. if done well (cough how high we go in the dark) it gets me every single time. XENO and everything about him. i was listening to the audiobook at work and during his death i had to fight back tears lol. god. and the kids in the play and how they wanted to end the story.... fuck my life. and konstance and her curiosity and oh my god everything about this book messed me up. 5/5 i think thats all i'll be able to say before i combust.
-Chlorine by Jade Song: what a weird little book. really liked it. audiobook slayed. not much else to say. recommend for weird lesbians. 3.5/4 stars.
-A Dowry of Blood by S. T. Gibson: THE AUDIOBOOK NARRATOR IS SO FUCKING GOOD AT HER JOB I COULD LISTEN TO HER TALK ALL DAY I THINK IM IN LOVE WITH HER. the story was really good love a good vampire story love a good creepy story. fun time. listened to the audiobook in like an hour hour and a half car ride it was a good time. 3.5 stars.
and that ends off all of the books i read in 2023 !!!!!!! YIPPEEE!!!!! i'll stop here and make a separate post for the books i've read so far in 2024 just for organizational purposes and also because i am hungry and need to stop lol. if you made it this far through the post i love you and also sorry for the long rant but also too bad because this is my blog and you clicked on it. happy reading :)

2023 Book Reviews
Idea by the lovely @thatwasthenightthingschanged ✨
I’ve recently started a module on medieval woman’s literature which explains the randomness in books lol
Autumn by Ali Smith: she quickly became my favorite author with my favorite writing style, loosely goes in and out of situations, kinda like flash fiction, challenges Brexit 5/5
Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf: a tad strange as everything by Virginia in my opinion, Clarissa Dalloway is unbearable but I guess that’s the point, still like the writing style, gives a nice idea of life in the 1910s 3/5
Cleopatra and Frankenstein: very moving, you know the ending before it starts but it is not boring or predictable, shows that everyone has gone trough some shit 4.5/5
Everything I know about love by Dolly Alderton: seemed a bit pretentious as first but definitely grew on me, this is not a fiction novel but it tends to feel like it, she lives a very different life than me 3.5/5
Voyage in the dark by Jean Rhys: again a bit strange, challenges immigration and racism, main character loves retail therapy, dramatic 3.5/5
How not to fall in love by Emily Foster: boring, predictable, unrealistic, don’t know what I expected, some romance never hurt nobody 1.5/5
Never let you go by Kazuo Ishiguro: that guy won the Nobel price for literature, he is seriously a good writer, it is odd and frustrating but so relevant and important, dystopian 4/5
Thinking with Trees by Jason Allen-Paisant: beautiful poetry that connects human kind to nature, 4/5
The Lais of Marie de France by Marie de France: medieval fairytales that are slightly absurd and secretly feminist, worth a read if you are into historic lit but do yourself a favor and read the modern English version 4/5
Visions showed to a devout woman by Julian of Norwich: support an anchorite in her delusions, wish I was her, medieval visions of Christ’s crucifixion 2/5
The book of Margery Kempe by Margery Kempe: had 14 children, then decided she wanted to be married to God instead of her husband, she goes on fun trips! (Pilgrimage), again support a girl in her delusions, unintentionally funny, hates her husband, 3/5
Girl, Woman, other by Bernadine Evaristo: feminists, shows the struggles of various woman, not (!) written in verse as people assume, not a light read but a good read 4.5/5
Hope you enjoyed it, happy reading ✨

Tanked was the undisputed highlight of May. So worth the wait. Oh Angel, my sweet, hot, slightly awkward, totally smitten bae. Anyway, the Eastside Brewery series is criminally underread and I highly recommend it.  Also excellent: Somebody’s Daughter, which is a memoir, and She Said Yes (not to be confused with that debunked martyrdom book lol), which is the sequel to If She Says Yes, about Tomas, a younger, submissive man, and Darcy, his best friend’s mother. The Walsh series was a wild, sex-filled ride that became a bit redundant in the middle but I mostly enjoyed it. I think Riley’s book was my favorite.  I bought Tanked and everything else came from Libby and Hoopla.

Shift of Morals - Book Review
Tumblr media
Title: Shift of Morals
Author: K. Webster
Online Rating: 3.86/5
Personal Rating: 4/5
Warning(s): Sexual Assault, Rape, PTSD Flashbacks, Childhood Trauma, Sexual Thoughts, Age-gap Pairing, Possessive Tendencies, M/M, and Sexual Content.
Pages: 188
Summary: I found him when he was a boy. Bloody. Mangled. Near death. If I’d been a merciful alpha, I would’ve snapped his neck and ended him right then. Except, I didn’t. Something in his big brown eyes tugged at my heart strings. I kept him. Healed him. Raised him to be fierce, loyal, and brave. Now that he’s an adult, everything’s changing. He’s no longer the soft, scared beta I once thought he was. No, there’s an uncontrollable anger inside him. A rage-filled hate I don’t understand. As a dangerous pack begins tormenting us and destroying our home, I feel him pulling from me as he seeks justice. He thirsts for revenge, even if it means leaving our pack and going solo. But, as his alpha, I won’t let him go without a fight. Each time he pushes, I pull him right back to me. I’ll keep him locked in my arms or pinned beneath me forever if that’s what it takes to keep him. A shift of morals has begun. One I don’t understand, but certainly don’t resist. I’m the most powerful wolf on Beacon Island. I don’t have weaknesses. Until now. This wild, reckless young man changed everything when he stole my heart. This book is a steamy standalone MM age-gap shifter romance. No other books need to be read before or after this one as it is a complete story.
Review: As always, K. Webster doesn’t disappoint! I love all of her books especially her M/M books! I’ve read a few reviews that said the plot had a lot of holes in it, but I felt everything was answered. Maybe a little rushed at a few points, but nothing was left unanswered. The writing was fantastic. I felt exactly how the characters were feeling, and understood how they felt too. Which got annoying to me because I wanted to be on both sides when Rem and Cy were fighting lol I wanted them to fall in love almost instantly. I felt my own jealousy for when Remy and “he who shall not be named” became a little thing. I’m so glad it didn’t end up that way! I can definitely see me reading this book again in the future, or even going back to remanence about some of the chapters. Definitely recommend this book!
Negatives: Personally, I was going back and forth on giving this review a 4 or a 3.5 rating because of this ONE thing… Remy’s powers. I know, I know... they’re wolves, but why does Webster have to put magical powered into it? The powers didn’t even make sense either. For me personally, it detached me from those parts of the book, and I found myself speed reading through those parts. Still a good book, just would have been fine without those elements.
