@theonewiththesoks submitted: I have so many new friends to introduce to you!!!
The only species I’m not sure about is the one in the video which was taken in northern South Carolina at Brookgreen Gardens.
Speaking of which I don’t think I shared the insect hotel from the gardens this year so forgive me if I resubmit it! I also saw the cross section of a live beehive between glass panels again this year which I think may have been my first ever submission to your blog! (BG is very bug friendly in case you haven’t noticed lol, they’re huge into nature preservation and education)
I didn’t realize that lovely horsefly was female until after I took her picture and saw the distance between her eyes. Thankfully she accepted my gift of a dandelion but she was less grateful for the sip of water I poured out beside her on a rock.
PS I learned about Toxeus magnus recently and how they nurse their spiderlings, it’s so so cute! Highly recommend you look into it if you haven’t heard of them yet :’)
An excellent group of friends! I don't think I saw the insect hotel before but it's a fun idea. The fly is not a horse fly but you're right that it is a female! The slug is huge and beautiful. The fellow in the video is a flat-backed millipede, likely in Xystodesmidae, but I couldn't say which species exactly. And I did know about Toxeus magnus nursing its young :)

Today I met a very sweet bee (who I believe was a carpenter bee) whose wings were looking rather tattered and beat up. I offered her a dandelion and she very quickly became L O S T in the sauce. I offered her some water in a bottle cap but there was No Time to Drink when there was Dandelion Pollen™️ to be had! I took her and the bottle cap and put them in the clover blossoms by my front porch where I left her very happy. Which of course made me happy!
I wish tumblr let you upload more than one video because I have some very adorable videos of her and her amusing sauce antics as I call them. If you wanted to see them I could reblog this 2-3 times with the vids. :)
Yes, I would love to see them! Just tag me in the reblogs or I may not see them. :)

I thought you might appreciate the new bugs being included in the 2021 summer lineup! The new additions are a brown cicada, an emerald cicada, and a green hairstreak butterfly. You can also catch saw stags, yellow swallowtails, and darner dragonflies!
Idk what this is from but the bugs are very cute please tell them I said hello

I saw the (flipping adorable) video of the sleepy bee submission you posted and I wanted to ask if most bugs sleep the way humans do or if they enter another kind of dormant resting state?
Bugs do sleep, in a way! I talked about that here.

@theonewiththesoks submitted: First up: some cool molts I found in my mom’s back yard and a moth who had passed away but was still quite beautiful

A wiggly lil larva on our bathroom wall (WV if you can identify it)
I have some strangely sentimental spiders for you in this post, lol. The first pair of photos was taken at our city’s Fall Festival celebration where my fiancé gave me my engagement ring and an official proposal (we had agreed to get married but hadn’t had a big moment yet)! The jumper is from the airport today when I got to see my best friend for the first time in over four years and meet my goddaughter for the very first time ever in person! Maybe spiders are going to be a sign of blessings in my personal relationships 🤔

If you can identify the spider species specifically (WV by Ohio) that would be wonderful!
Great bunch of pals! RIP to the moth but yes it is beautiful. Also really love the bagworm case. Hope they were able to successfully metamorphose! The larva in the video is a soldier beetle, possibly a goldenrod soldier beetle. Ooooh a lucky engagement spider! Good for you, that means your marriage will last FOREVER. The orbweaver looks like a furrow orbweaver and the jumper is a bold jumper!
Sorry for the late posting of this it ended up in my drafts for some reason.
